- 0:55Speaker 4: Man.

- 0:56Speaker 3: know you my guy, So this this is special. This
- 0:58Speaker 3: ain't just an interview, and this is special, Yes, sir,

- 1:19Speaker 3: also your boy. I read the audiobook myself, so when
- 1:21Speaker 3: you listen to the audiobook, it'll be in my voice.
- 1:24Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, it's been a little weird you in all
- 1:27Speaker 5: these pages. Yeah yeah.
- 1:29Speaker 2: How long did it take you read all over?
- 1:31Speaker 5: About two three days? I think I'm sorry about the week.
- 1:34Speaker 2: I was about to say, yeah, but.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I was bouncing around, so I only had a sometain
- 1:38Speaker 3: amount of time.
- 1:38Speaker 5: But it was cool though.
- 1:39Speaker 3: It was the craziest thing about reading it though, Man,
- 1:42Speaker 3: it was very therapeutic because a lot of you know,
- 1:44Speaker 3: because when you're reading your book to yourself, you're reading
- 1:47Speaker 3: it to yourself. When you actually have to read it
- 1:50Speaker 3: for people to listen, you have to go through the
- 1:52Speaker 3: emotions of what you're reading. If it's an intense moment,
- 1:55Speaker 3: your voice got to go up and all that. But
- 1:57Speaker 3: it was very therapeutic because it was like a lot
- 1:59Speaker 3: of that stuff. I didn't realize that I had went
- 2:03Speaker 3: through it, you know what I'm saying and got through it.
- 2:05Speaker 3: You know, it was when you thought it was over,
- 2:08Speaker 3: but you somehow way you figured it out. But a
- 2:11Speaker 3: lot of that was things that I had put in
- 2:12Speaker 3: the back of my mind and you know, just kind
- 2:15Speaker 3: of put it on the shelf. And then when you
- 2:18Speaker 3: now you got to come back around and face it,
- 2:19Speaker 3: you kind of feel the same trauma that you did
- 2:22Speaker 3: when you was going through it.
- 2:23Speaker 5: You know, the anxiety, It is a little it's a
- 2:25Speaker 5: little weird.
- 2:26Speaker 4: So can you share one of those moments.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Well, lose my voice when I when I I didn't
- 2:34Speaker 3: know how to perform because I just you know, I
- 2:35Speaker 3: kind of taught myself how to do this on my own,
- 2:37Speaker 3: so I was yelling a whole lot, right. It's basically
- 2:41Speaker 3: I was doing like you know, small clubs where you
- 2:44Speaker 3: have to perform on the speakers because there's no stage,
- 2:46Speaker 3: so they don't really have a sound system. So I'm
- 2:48Speaker 3: wrapping over my vocals and I'm screaming, I'm yelling. And
- 2:51Speaker 3: I had this show in a super Bowl I think
- 2:53Speaker 3: it was like three or four something like that, and
- 2:55Speaker 3: it was in Jacksonville, and I just remember just yelling
- 2:58Speaker 3: and I just felt burnings and when I got back
- 3:01Speaker 3: in the car, I couldn't talk, so I didn't want
- 3:03Speaker 3: nobody to know I couldn't talk because I was freaking out,
- 3:05Speaker 3: you feel me. So I kind of went through that process,
- 3:10Speaker 3: and I figured out after I went and saw a
- 3:12Speaker 3: doctor that I told my vocal course because I had
- 3:15Speaker 3: polyps on them. So imagine trappidize out. I'm semi working
- 3:21Speaker 3: on thub motivation. I'm about ten fifteen songs in and
- 3:25Speaker 3: I got to get a throat surgery, and I don't know.
- 3:28Speaker 3: They don't know if I'm gonna either sound the same
- 3:31Speaker 3: or either be able to talk. So your one foot
- 3:33Speaker 3: in the street, you one foot out. You've got this
- 3:36Speaker 3: opportunity to become a success because you see the momentum
- 3:40Speaker 3: and you don't know if it's gonna work out. And then,
- 3:42Speaker 3: mind you, I didn't have insurance, so I had to
- 3:45Speaker 3: pay for my surgery with a brown paper bag. Yeah,
- 3:50Speaker 3: so that was embarrassing.
- 3:51Speaker 5: You know.
- 3:52Speaker 4: Did you have to change up your ways in which
- 3:54Speaker 4: you took care of your voice after that?
- 3:56Speaker 5: Yes?
- 3:57Speaker 3: So, first of all, I got all the homies living
- 3:59Speaker 3: in my house, Alpharetta and the mansion, right, and the mansion,
- 4:03Speaker 3: the mansion and the crazy thing was like a shout
- 4:08Speaker 3: out to Auntie Jan Jan does all the vocal culture
- 4:12Speaker 3: for like Justin Bieve and all those people. So I
- 4:14Speaker 3: had to go see her after I got my surgery,
- 4:16Speaker 3: and she had me do all these and all that stuff.
- 4:18Speaker 3: So I had to do this every day, right, and
- 4:21Speaker 3: she gave me like a CD with the different exercise
- 4:25Speaker 3: I had to do. So I would be in my
- 4:27Speaker 3: bathroom at the crib, you know, singing, you know what
- 4:30Speaker 3: I'm saying, the homies walking by, laughing, you know what
- 4:32Speaker 3: I mean. It was funny, but I you know, I
- 4:34Speaker 3: was like waiting, embarrassed and h One time I was
- 4:37Speaker 3: there and I was in the actual her office and
- 4:41Speaker 3: we was doing the singing and the ups got walked in, right,
- 4:44Speaker 3: so we got a package and then I'm singing and
- 4:47Speaker 3: he turned around and he looked at me, and I
- 4:48Speaker 3: look at him. He dropped the package. You got gez
- 4:51Speaker 3: in there singing? He like, damn, you know what I'm saying.
- 4:55Speaker 3: So yeah, I went through that. It was it was.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I always think it should be a case study about you.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I think you're the main person that came from the
- 5:06Speaker 1: environment you came from and you made it right. I
- 5:10Speaker 1: don't think the percentages are that high, right for what
- 5:14Speaker 1: you had to deal with and overcome. How does that
- 5:18Speaker 1: make you feel sometimes when you sit and think about that.
- 5:20Speaker 5: I mean, you know, it's crazy.
- 5:21Speaker 3: I think about it more now than I did then,
- 5:24Speaker 3: because you know, I'm a strong believer in faith and
- 5:26Speaker 3: a strong believer in God. But I really feel well,
- 5:30Speaker 3: I felt like it then, but I know now that
- 5:33Speaker 3: this was my purpose. This is why I was put
- 5:35Speaker 3: on this earth, you know, to lead by example and
- 5:37Speaker 3: to do what I do. Because I was I had
- 5:40Speaker 3: been through so much stuff and I just didn't understand
- 5:43Speaker 3: how I kept getting through it right because it wasn't me.
- 5:45Speaker 5: I'm not that smart, Like I'm not a genius in nothing.
- 5:48Speaker 3: But it's like I would just always figure it out.
- 5:50Speaker 3: But it would be always when I took my time
- 5:53Speaker 3: thought about it. My grandmother raised me to be, you know,
- 5:55Speaker 3: believe in God like pray when you get in these situations,
- 5:58Speaker 3: and I did that, you know what I mean, in
- 6:00Speaker 3: some type of way, it always worked out, and I'm
- 6:03Speaker 3: just like, you know what, this is my purpose.
- 6:04Speaker 5: I got to really take this serious.
- 6:06Speaker 3: So that's why you saw around recession, I started to
- 6:08Speaker 3: really start to hone in and focus on who I
- 6:12Speaker 3: was becoming, because before that, I was going through a
- 6:14Speaker 3: lot of survivor's remorse, you know what I'm saying, Like
- 6:16Speaker 3: it just kind of felt like I want to take
- 6:17Speaker 3: care everybody. I want everybody to blow up. I want
- 6:19Speaker 3: everybody to be great. And it's just like, you know,
- 6:22Speaker 3: you got to walk that path alone sometimes, right, And
- 6:26Speaker 3: that's something I had to come to grips with it.
- 6:27Speaker 3: So that means anything that you endure, you know, you
- 6:30Speaker 3: got to deal with it, you know what I mean,
- 6:31Speaker 3: no matter how much the pain how much, and people
- 6:34Speaker 3: are scared to go through the pain, and sometimes the
- 6:36Speaker 3: pain is what builds the character, right. And I don't
- 6:40Speaker 3: regret anything that I went through. I just know that
- 6:43Speaker 3: there's a wealth of wisdom that I have just naturally
- 6:49Speaker 3: because I've been through so many things that were really
- 6:52Speaker 3: like dire and life threatening and you know, and you know,
- 6:56Speaker 3: it's like a video game. If you lose, you don't
- 6:58Speaker 3: get three lives, You only get one, you know what
- 7:00Speaker 3: I mean.
- 7:01Speaker 5: So I think I played the game pretty well.
- 7:04Speaker 6: I wanted to bring up you talking about your homies,
- 7:06Speaker 6: was living in your mansion and all this and how
- 7:08Speaker 6: you wanted to help everybody. When did you know it
- 7:11Speaker 6: was time to kick the homies out the mansion?
- 7:13Speaker 5: I didn't.
- 7:15Speaker 3: I got locked up on tour when I was on
- 7:18Speaker 3: tour Whiz Khalifa, and we was doing like thirty thousand
- 7:22Speaker 3: people a night, and I only took like the right people.
- 7:25Speaker 3: I took two bus drivers, my camera guy, uh, one
- 7:28Speaker 3: of the homies. It was security or to the homies,
- 7:31Speaker 3: and security, my role manager, and all these people there
- 7:34Speaker 3: I felt like were right for what I was doing
- 7:37Speaker 3: because I didn't want to go out there and get
- 7:38Speaker 3: any trouble. Mind you, I've been on plenty of tours
- 7:40Speaker 3: and things have happened, you know what I'm saying. So
- 7:42Speaker 3: this was the one time I wanted to do it
- 7:44Speaker 3: right and something happened in Oakland, and they pretty much
- 7:48Speaker 3: blamed me. I'm the only person on the tour that's
- 7:51Speaker 3: capable of this, so they say, And ten of us
- 7:54Speaker 3: got locked up. They locked my whole bus up, and
- 7:58Speaker 3: it was ten million dollars in bill. I had to
- 8:01Speaker 3: sit in jail so I can get everybody out.
- 8:03Speaker 5: You got everybody out, yeah, I had to, And I
- 8:05Speaker 5: didn't get dollars.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a million dollars a piece for Bell, so
- 8:09Speaker 3: ten million dollars and I had to sit there and
- 8:12Speaker 3: talk and get everybody out because in my mind, you
- 8:14Speaker 3: when they you could have got yourself out. No, they
- 8:17Speaker 3: came to get me the first day, but you stayed.
- 8:19Speaker 5: I stayed.
- 8:20Speaker 3: First unselfish thing I ever did. You know what I'm saying,
- 8:23Speaker 3: First un selfish thing. And we'll talk about that, Lord
- 8:25Speaker 3: Lawyer in a minute, because I got me in a
- 8:27Speaker 3: lot of trouble, But first unseelfish thing I did. And
- 8:33Speaker 3: what I will say is the people that I thought
- 8:35Speaker 3: that was in place that was gonna make sure my
- 8:37Speaker 3: family was straight round. This was going on just on
- 8:39Speaker 3: some homeboy, I got you to me called you know
- 8:42Speaker 3: your people if they need anything, you know your son.
- 8:44Speaker 3: I didn't get that. So when I got out, I
- 8:47Speaker 3: was I was mad. You feel what I'm saying. I
- 8:49Speaker 3: was just like, I can't do it no more. But
- 8:51Speaker 3: I gotta just I got I gotta do what I do,
- 8:54Speaker 3: like I can't depend on people to do. And I
- 8:57Speaker 3: just was talking about this and the joint with the homies,
- 8:59Speaker 3: like expectations as a motherfucker, and I can't put my
- 9:04Speaker 3: expectations on somebody else. I know what I would do
- 9:06Speaker 3: in a situation like that, So I can't even be mad.
- 9:08Speaker 5: I just got to move on. So I didn't make
- 9:10Speaker 5: a decision.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Life happened, and it made me make that decision because
- 9:14Speaker 3: now I don't have a choice.
- 9:16Speaker 5: Right because now my careers wobbly.
- 9:20Speaker 3: You know, my finances is getting tricky because now I
- 9:22Speaker 3: got to spend all this money get these people out
- 9:24Speaker 3: of jail. No mind, they still got to go back
- 9:25Speaker 3: and forth to LA to go to court. I got
- 9:27Speaker 3: to get everybody.
- 9:28Speaker 5: Lawyers, you know what I'm saying, because it's on my wife.
- 9:30Speaker 3: So and then a to mention all the millions of
- 9:33Speaker 3: dollars that I lost, you know, for my endorsements and
- 9:37Speaker 3: my endorsements and deals that I had and my job
- 9:41Speaker 3: at Atlantic Records, all that went out the window. But
- 9:44Speaker 3: I'm not mad because why I was when I got out.
- 9:47Speaker 3: If you there was a time, if you saw me,
- 9:48Speaker 3: you know, I was like, you know, I was mean
- 9:50Speaker 3: mugging everything. I was gang banging the records. You know
- 9:53Speaker 3: what I'm saying, Like, I just I was.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Just got into your people and you thought they had your.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Well, I just had a lot of resentment because I
- 9:59Speaker 3: had expectations, and that's not their fault. You can you
- 10:02Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, I can't expect that, and I
- 10:04Speaker 3: did that, But what it did was show me. And
- 10:07Speaker 3: I remember getting down telling my business part. I said, Man,
- 10:10Speaker 3: I'll never be a part of nothing else in this
- 10:11Speaker 3: world if I don't have ownership, because they took it all,
- 10:14Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying.
- 10:15Speaker 5: And thank god, you know what I'm saying.
- 10:17Speaker 3: That I was able to still get out of here
- 10:19Speaker 3: and do what I do, but everything that I was
- 10:21Speaker 3: banking on for my you know, for my exit plan,
- 10:24Speaker 3: they took it right. So now I'm just like, I
- 10:26Speaker 3: ain't doing nothing else. I ain't put my name on
- 10:28Speaker 3: anything unless I got ownership. And that just started that mentality.
- 10:31Speaker 3: And then when I started to move like that, people
- 10:33Speaker 3: just started stopped coming around naturally, you know what I'm saying.
- 10:36Speaker 5: They kind of like, I don't.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Really you know, you wasn't aligning with the energy an
- 10:40Speaker 4: right right, right, and.
- 10:41Speaker 3: It kind of just felt like, you know, I don't
- 10:44Speaker 3: really want to be around that. And after a while
- 10:46Speaker 3: it was just me, did.
- 10:47Speaker 4: You take on any mentors in that time?
- 10:49Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 10:50Speaker 3: I took on a lot of mentors because I started
- 10:52Speaker 3: to understand that I had to go outside of my
- 10:54Speaker 3: comfort zone to find the answers that I need, and
- 10:56Speaker 3: that's that's one of my gifts. Though I'll do that
- 10:58Speaker 3: all day and I don't know what it is. In
- 11:00Speaker 3: my mind, I can like say, if it's I could
- 11:04Speaker 3: be in a situation and I just go through my phone,
- 11:06Speaker 3: I go straight to that person, I'm go and call them,
- 11:08Speaker 3: but I see how I talk to you. And what
- 11:10Speaker 3: it did was it started to open me up to
- 11:12Speaker 3: see other people's perspective because.
- 11:14Speaker 5: They're not biased.
- 11:16Speaker 3: They're not like in it where they're taking a side
- 11:18Speaker 3: or they feel a certain way. They're just like, well,
- 11:21Speaker 3: you know if it was me, I would you know,
- 11:23Speaker 3: so on and so forth. I'm not gonna just take
- 11:25Speaker 3: their information to run with it, but there's bits and
- 11:28Speaker 3: pieces in it. I could be like, yeah, you know
- 11:29Speaker 3: what that applies to me? And then that's just how
- 11:31Speaker 3: it started moving. And the biggest thing though, I had
- 11:34Speaker 3: to really give myself permission to evault. That's where it
- 11:37Speaker 3: changed that because I like, the whole time I was fighting,
- 11:40Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, I was like, I ain't
- 11:41Speaker 3: never changed it this way, And it's like life happened.
- 11:44Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, I need to figure this out. And
- 11:46Speaker 3: then I had to say, yo, look man, you you've
- 11:48Speaker 3: done enough. You kept it a solid you can keep it,
- 11:50Speaker 3: but you gotta start thinking about the second half of
- 11:52Speaker 3: your life.
- 11:52Speaker 5: What are you gonna do? You know?
- 11:54Speaker 3: And if you look at a lot of these guys
- 11:55Speaker 3: now that are that are getting you know, like being
- 11:58Speaker 3: a rappers, like the most ain't a job in the world,
- 12:01Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, So you know, and that's
- 12:04Speaker 3: why I was so passionate about the bank Rove Freshes
- 12:06Speaker 3: and Adobees and all, because getting there is like five percent.
- 12:11Speaker 3: You're gonna be famous, you're gonna be all right, you're
- 12:13Speaker 3: gonna be financially set up. But staying alive and staying
- 12:16Speaker 3: out of prison, it's like the other ninety five percent
- 12:18Speaker 3: you gotta navigate because all of that come with it, right,
- 12:21Speaker 3: And I think that's the hardest part to navigate, you know,
- 12:24Speaker 3: because we're all talented to an extent, but you still
- 12:28Speaker 3: got to navigate it, you know what I'm saying, Because
- 12:30Speaker 3: if you get out here and you're moving around the world,
- 12:32Speaker 3: you're not example, like look at Nipsey Awso you know,
- 12:34Speaker 3: what I'm saying, and just like.
- 12:35Speaker 5: You know, it was a good dude.
- 12:36Speaker 3: You can't foresee that happening, especially in an environment with
- 12:40Speaker 3: his own people, with our own people.
- 12:42Speaker 5: All the environment that those things happen. Right. So there's
- 12:46Speaker 5: that I wanted to ask you.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Is this around the time when you started thinking branding wise,
- 12:51Speaker 1: because that's when I started.
- 12:52Speaker 5: Seeing the alcohol right. Well, what it was was shout
- 12:57Speaker 5: out the tip.
- 12:58Speaker 3: He called me one day when I did the snowman right,
- 13:01Speaker 3: he said, man, that is genius. I didn't know what
- 13:04Speaker 3: the hell he was talking about. He said, you got
- 13:05Speaker 3: a brand. I said, what, you know what I'm saying.
- 13:07Speaker 3: So in my mind I'm thinking it's like a street thing.
- 13:10Speaker 3: But then I started to be like oh, and then
- 13:13Speaker 3: I started to see the Snowman everywhere. I got for
- 13:18Speaker 3: wearing the too. But that just opened my eyes to
- 13:20Speaker 3: what branding was right. And then with the uh with
- 13:24Speaker 3: the alcohol and things was I was just like, Yo,
- 13:27Speaker 3: if I'm gonna be out here and I'm gonna be
- 13:29Speaker 3: talking about these things, I can't drink them for free, right,
- 13:32Speaker 3: and then you can't pay me to drink them, because
- 13:34Speaker 3: if I got my own bread, I don't need you
- 13:36Speaker 3: to pay me to do what I want to do. Now,
- 13:38Speaker 3: mind you, if you want to get into business with me,
- 13:40Speaker 3: and not just because I want the money, I gotta
- 13:43Speaker 3: like the I gotta like the brand or the product.
- 13:45Speaker 3: If I believe it like you believe it, then I'm down.
- 13:47Speaker 3: But it has to be equity in that. And that
- 13:49Speaker 3: came from being locked up the last time in LA
- 13:53Speaker 3: and them taking everything right because now it's time to
- 13:56Speaker 3: start moving because I had belvedere dials before, like they
- 13:59Speaker 3: gave me money to promote bever deal. But it's like
- 14:02Speaker 3: it didn't make sense, you know what I'm saying, because
- 14:05Speaker 3: my likeness is forever for me. So if I build
- 14:08Speaker 3: your brand and I walk away, you go get somebody else.
- 14:10Speaker 3: You just took my whole base and got them associated
- 14:15Speaker 3: with your brand and then I walk away with nothing.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Like we were more than that, So you got to
- 14:19Speaker 3: give us something because we're putting all into this, Like
- 14:22Speaker 3: I'm going into the clubs in the middle, I'm in
- 14:24Speaker 3: fuck head, bankhead wherever, and I'm promoting this brand for
- 14:27Speaker 3: you. You can't go there and get the type of respect
- 14:29Speaker 3: them to get, So you gotta pay for that, you know.
- 14:32Speaker 3: And I would suggest anybody, you know, not take these
- 14:36Speaker 3: capsule deals or these you know this upfront money.
- 14:40Speaker 5: It's just like nah.
- 14:41Speaker 3: I when I did Ave, I was like, yo, listen,
- 14:44Speaker 3: I want to do the deal because I loved the tequila.
- 14:46Speaker 3: And he ended up being one of my mentors to
- 14:48Speaker 3: shout out to kend Austin.
- 14:49Speaker 5: He went on to do.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Proper thirteen with Connor McGregor, a terrimony now with the Rock.
- 14:55Speaker 3: This was my mentor and I told him, I said,
- 14:57Speaker 3: you know, I got to have some equity. I gotta have,
- 14:59Speaker 3: you know, got to have some skin in the game.
- 15:01Speaker 4: And can you break down equity for like the you know,
- 15:04Speaker 4: the young people who really don't understand what that means.
- 15:06Speaker 3: Right, So this is my water brand, rate of Divines
- 15:09Speaker 3: feud right, and I love it great, by the way,
- 15:12Speaker 3: but I couldn't walk around and drink this water every
- 15:15Speaker 3: day just to get some upfront money. Equity is everything
- 15:18Speaker 3: that you build in business, that you scale. There's there's
- 15:23Speaker 3: a goal of selling it and getting out of it.
- 15:25Speaker 3: When you sell this, I need my proper chunk like
- 15:29Speaker 3: you're getting your proper chunk. So I need a percentage
- 15:32Speaker 3: of what you guys are going to sell this for
- 15:34Speaker 3: even if it's points. So that means basically, like where
- 15:38Speaker 3: somebody would give you one hundred and fifty thousand dollars too, yeah,
- 15:43Speaker 3: to drink this and talk about and post it on
- 15:45Speaker 3: your Instagram. On the back end, you got the potential
- 15:48Speaker 3: to walk away with one hundred and fifty million. I'm
- 15:51Speaker 3: saying it's a different game, right, but you got to
- 15:53Speaker 3: have more skin in the game because you're not taking
- 15:55Speaker 3: any money. You're saying, I'm gonna bet on myself and
- 15:57Speaker 3: I'm gonna wait until you sell this to capitalize, right,
- 16:01Speaker 3: And that's the difference, you know, And that's what it's
- 16:03Speaker 3: the same thing with no Yeah, yeah, same thing with
- 16:05Speaker 3: shout out to Nod Nod as my new spirit. We
- 16:08Speaker 3: got Coniac vodka and gen and I mean, you know,
- 16:13Speaker 3: I think about it every day. You know, your boy
- 16:15Speaker 3: got business partners in Corneac friends That ain't bad, baby,
- 16:18Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, ain't bad for a guy
- 16:20Speaker 3: right around the corner.
- 16:21Speaker 5: You feel me.
- 16:22Speaker 1: I always wanted to ask you this question, what's your
- 16:25Speaker 1: favorite album?
- 16:26Speaker 5: Mind? Yeah? The Recession?
- 16:28Speaker 3: Okay, because the Recession of my favorite album, because that
- 16:33Speaker 3: was the time the things started to shift for me.
- 16:35Speaker 3: And I started to like rip because I'm gonna keep
- 16:38Speaker 3: it the buck mentally you mentally for sure, because I'm
- 16:41Speaker 3: gonna tell you from streets is watching. Till before I
- 16:46Speaker 3: recorded the Recession, I was going through, like a lot
- 16:49Speaker 3: of survivors remorse because I'm on my mission, I'm on
- 16:52Speaker 3: my path, but I'm trying to figure out everything for
- 16:54Speaker 3: everybody around me and how can I incorporate them and
- 16:57Speaker 3: what I'm what I'm doing right, And that caused a
- 17:00Speaker 3: lot of more pressure on top of what I was doing.
- 17:03Speaker 3: So I wasn't happy, you know what I'm saying. I
- 17:05Speaker 3: was stressed because you know, it's all the weight on me.
- 17:08Speaker 3: So I'm drinking, smoking every day. I'm talking about and
- 17:10Speaker 3: I ain't just saying like drinking like DC drinking. I'm
- 17:13Speaker 3: talking about like jeezy drinking, young jeezy drinking like I'm
- 17:16Speaker 3: drinking like when you see me out, I'm lit, you
- 17:18Speaker 3: know what I'm saying. And I'm just going through those
- 17:20Speaker 3: motions getting up, you know, five six o'clock in the evening,
- 17:23Speaker 3: getting ready to go hang out, to.
- 17:24Speaker 5: Go back to the club. You know what I'm saying.
- 17:26Speaker 3: That was just my life and I was just going
- 17:28Speaker 3: through a lot of survivors remore. So it was around
- 17:32Speaker 3: the time something happened around the recession, and I just
- 17:35Speaker 3: woke up because a lot of the the whole time,
- 17:37Speaker 3: I thought I was going to prison, right, So I
- 17:39Speaker 3: was kind of really banking on that, like I just
- 17:41Speaker 3: knew not been locked up, yeah, because everybody around me
- 17:43Speaker 3: was getting indicted. Oh like, now how could I not?
- 17:46Speaker 3: You know people I'm standing right next to. So it's
- 17:48Speaker 3: just like it's coming. So a lot of what you
- 17:50Speaker 3: heard in the beginning was me putting everything into the
- 17:52Speaker 3: music because at some point I just wanted to be heard,
- 17:55Speaker 3: so even if I'm going to music could be there, right.
- 17:57Speaker 3: And then I woke up and right before before I
- 18:00Speaker 3: started recording a recession, I said, I'm not in jail.
- 18:03Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. I got paper, you know
- 18:05Speaker 3: what I'm saying. I'm popping. I still can do this.
- 18:08Speaker 3: I'm gonna go be a star. And that's when I
- 18:10Speaker 3: started to come into my own and start to like
- 18:13Speaker 3: take care of myself.
- 18:14Speaker 5: I wouldn't even drinking water, man, I would go, like
- 18:16Speaker 5: forever what I drink? I just just Chris Chris Stout
- 18:19Speaker 5: and wilfire House. That was it. You know what I'm saying.
- 18:21Speaker 3: And I started taking care of myself and I started
- 18:23Speaker 3: like dropping weight because I was like two sixty.
- 18:24Speaker 5: I got down to like one eighty five, you know
- 18:27Speaker 5: what I'm saying.
- 18:27Speaker 3: I did my first show on the Recession tour in
- 18:29Speaker 3: Boston and I walk on stage and by my third song,
- 18:33Speaker 3: I just saw him throwing stuff on the stage.
- 18:35Speaker 5: I kept trying to figure out what it was. I'm
- 18:36Speaker 5: looking at my security, like what's up. It was brawls.
- 18:38Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, this is it. I'm like, this is it.
- 18:44Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying. I'm never going back by
- 18:46Speaker 5: the way, you know what I'm saying.
- 18:47Speaker 3: And from there, I started eating clean, taking care of myself,
- 18:50Speaker 3: and the crazy I just was like reading more.
- 18:52Speaker 5: I was just I was talking about a lot in
- 18:53Speaker 5: the book.
- 18:54Speaker 3: I was just like reading more, asking questions, going outside
- 18:57Speaker 3: my comfort zone, hanging with different people, and I'm just like, Okay,
- 18:59Speaker 3: this is a another life out there.
- 19:01Speaker 5: I got to figure it out.
- 19:02Speaker 3: And they just gave me this sense of like just
- 19:06Speaker 3: knowing that there was a future in what I was
- 19:08Speaker 3: doing right and I could do other things and I
- 19:10Speaker 3: ain't have to just be in the club or on
- 19:13Speaker 3: the block or you know, sitting in the house with
- 19:16Speaker 3: you know, a hundred people and we all ain't on
- 19:18Speaker 3: the same page. And I'm not happy with that because
- 19:21Speaker 3: I'd rather be on the island somewhere. You can't take
- 19:23Speaker 3: one hundred people on the island. It's not gonna work,
- 19:25Speaker 3: and even if you try, it's not gonna be the
- 19:26Speaker 3: same experience, right, So I just got to a point
- 19:29Speaker 3: I was just like, man, I just gotta just you know,
- 19:31Speaker 3: go live and just do and not be afraid, you know,
- 19:34Speaker 3: because it was weird. You know, you go to the gym,
- 19:35Speaker 3: you see Gez in the gym, somebody yelling at you
- 19:38Speaker 3: five more.
- 19:38Speaker 5: You're like, nobody yelling at me. I don't take orders. Well,
- 19:44Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying.
- 19:46Speaker 3: So it was a lot of that, but I was
- 19:47Speaker 3: just like, nah, I got a training, I got this now,
- 19:49Speaker 3: and I got that and just started to building mentors
- 19:52Speaker 3: and then also just having an outlet to talk about
- 19:55Speaker 3: some of the frustrations I was going through because I
- 19:57Speaker 3: felt like nobody really understood right, And jay Z shout
- 20:01Speaker 3: out to Jay like he was he was very open
- 20:05Speaker 3: minded to like having conversations with me about things, right,
- 20:09Speaker 3: And that's when me and him really locked in as
- 20:11Speaker 3: I started to see that he really understood what I
- 20:13Speaker 3: was going through because he called me one day he
- 20:15Speaker 3: was like, Yo, you need to talk. I was like,
- 20:17Speaker 3: hey man, yeah, the blue because you know, when when
- 20:20Speaker 3: the diamonds started coming, like the label stoped picking up
- 20:22Speaker 3: the phone.
- 20:23Speaker 5: He was the president.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Oh wow, you know what I'm saying.
- 20:25Speaker 3: So it was just like, yeah, Label stopped picking up
- 20:29Speaker 3: the phone because it was like it was hot.
- 20:30Speaker 2: It was like he's done. Like did the Label feel
- 20:33Speaker 2: like you were done?
- 20:33Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 20:34Speaker 5: I think they felt like I was done.
- 20:35Speaker 3: And I also felt like they felt like they didn't
- 20:37Speaker 3: know what extent of things I had going on, so
- 20:40Speaker 3: they didn't want none of that because you know, you
- 20:42Speaker 3: got to think about the murder inks and all that.
- 20:44Speaker 3: When all these things happened, you know what I'm saying,
- 20:46Speaker 3: it could get serious, you know what I'm saying. I
- 20:48Speaker 3: kind of think they just pushed back. But he was
- 20:49Speaker 3: the first one to get me a call like you
- 20:50Speaker 3: need to talk. Went to his office in New York
- 20:53Speaker 3: and we sat down and we just really just was
- 20:55Speaker 3: just like talking, you know what I'm saying. That was
- 20:57Speaker 3: the first time I was like open to tell somebody like, Yo,
- 21:00Speaker 3: I'm paranoid as hell, Like I don't even know.
- 21:02Speaker 5: I'm not sleeping, I'm drinking.
- 21:04Speaker 3: I can't trust no, you know, I can't trust nobody,
- 21:07Speaker 3: you know, and that and and you know, and when
- 21:09Speaker 3: people he say that, I'm not saying blaming another person.
- 21:12Speaker 3: I'm saying I can't because I know what I got
- 21:14Speaker 3: going on. So I'm paranoid, right, and it might have
- 21:17Speaker 3: something to do more so with me than it has
- 21:19Speaker 3: to do with them, right, because I know what's going on.
- 21:21Speaker 5: They don't know what's going on. They just think me rapping.
- 21:24Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying, what's.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Some of the advice that jay Z was giving you
- 21:27Speaker 2: at that period of time.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Now, you were just telling me, like, you know, things happen,
- 21:30Speaker 3: and that you know things that things that you know
- 21:35Speaker 3: just to be mindful of, right, and then how to
- 21:39Speaker 3: start because I was more so trying to figure out
- 21:41Speaker 3: how to start transitioning in my life. And I was
- 21:43Speaker 3: I was really you know, under the impressing if I
- 21:46Speaker 3: changed any I was gonna lose everything I had. You
- 21:50Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, I'm saying as far as like
- 21:51Speaker 3: the people that was rhying with me, the people love.
- 21:54Speaker 5: Yeah, they like they love what I was doing.
- 21:55Speaker 3: They're just like, if I'm not that, then they're not
- 21:58Speaker 3: gonna support anything I do. And he's like, nah, it's
- 22:01Speaker 3: not like that. He'll grow with you if.
- 22:03Speaker 5: You allow him to. You know.
- 22:04Speaker 3: I was just like you sure, He's like yeah, And
- 22:07Speaker 3: we just had those real conversations like that. But coming
- 22:09Speaker 3: from him knowing that he's been in a situation where
- 22:12Speaker 3: he had to grow, I trusted that.
- 22:14Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying.
- 22:15Speaker 3: I felt like, Okay, cool, this is something, this is
- 22:17Speaker 3: something I might have to consider. And it took a
- 22:19Speaker 3: lot of thinking through it, and it wasn't easy at
- 22:24Speaker 3: first though, you know what I'm saying, Because who you
- 22:26Speaker 3: are is who you are until you decide to be
- 22:28Speaker 3: somebody else.
- 22:29Speaker 5: So I was relapsing a lot, That's what I'm saying.
- 22:31Speaker 6: You were scared to get out the like get out
- 22:33Speaker 6: the streets and be like a full time entertainer and
- 22:35Speaker 6: be like, yo, I'm gonna be a full time rap right.
- 22:37Speaker 5: Well I didn't. You know.
- 22:38Speaker 3: The thing was, I had start getting some money from rap,
- 22:42Speaker 3: but I had like, you know, I had real bills, bro,
- 22:44Speaker 3: Like I had real you know, I had a situation
- 22:47Speaker 3: like I was straight, you know what I'm saying, As
- 22:49Speaker 3: long as you know nothing went wrong, I was good.
- 22:52Speaker 3: I was I was taking care of my family like
- 22:54Speaker 3: I had. My life was set up, you know what
- 22:56Speaker 3: I'm saying. So the rap just added on to that.
- 22:59Speaker 3: But I had to leave that and that was like
- 23:03Speaker 3: the biggest thing because it's almost.
- 23:04Speaker 4: Like you were the real life ghost, right, But.
- 23:10Speaker 3: This is this is my crutch though, Like I'm good
- 23:12Speaker 3: over and if I don't got that, like what I'm like,
- 23:15Speaker 3: you know, this is rap cool, but like what if
- 23:16Speaker 3: it's slow up? What if I don't make no move?
- 23:19Speaker 3: You know, this is between you know, thug motivation and
- 23:21Speaker 3: all that. So it's like, you know what they say,
- 23:23Speaker 3: you make one album, a lot of people can't come
- 23:24Speaker 3: back and make another album.
- 23:26Speaker 4: Es.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Yeah, you got your whole life to make your first
- 23:29Speaker 3: album and it was so successful.
- 23:31Speaker 5: Ship I'm thinking, like, I'm gonna do this again.
- 23:33Speaker 4: So when the recession drops, you know, what was your
- 23:36Speaker 4: how how what was your reaction of your fans? Did
- 23:39Speaker 4: they did they do like jay Z said and go
- 23:41Speaker 4: with you? Initially? How was that?
- 23:43Speaker 3: I'll tell you this, I'll never forget it. I was
- 23:45Speaker 3: I was, I went to spot Divus one. I think
- 23:48Speaker 3: the ALM dropped on a Friday night. I went up
- 23:50Speaker 3: there like Saturday, and I pulled up, you know, and
- 23:53Speaker 3: ballet hopped out, and before I can get out the
- 23:56Speaker 3: cars group of.
- 23:56Speaker 5: Guys standing right there.
- 23:57Speaker 3: They're like, yo, jeezy knowing you just dropping me. Oh,
- 24:01Speaker 3: I'm just looking. I'm like, you know what I'm saying,
- 24:04Speaker 3: And my mom like, oh, you know what I mean.
- 24:06Speaker 3: And it just started. It started to be in there
- 24:08Speaker 3: every where I went. I'm just like, oh, like okay.
- 24:11Speaker 3: And that was like the first wave of it, right,
- 24:14Speaker 3: and then the second rave was of course to put
- 24:16Speaker 3: on took off of Kanye West. But then the second
- 24:19Speaker 3: wave was because you know, I had recorded my president
- 24:21Speaker 3: as black like four months before he was, before he
- 24:24Speaker 3: actually won, and then he won, right, so now you're
- 24:28Speaker 3: a prophet, you know what I'm saying.
- 24:30Speaker 5: So now you're going through.
- 24:31Speaker 3: That because you want to campaign. I remember that, Yeah,
- 24:33Speaker 3: you shout out to Barack Obama, my guy. But you know,
- 24:39Speaker 3: it went from that to so imagine you're getting to
- 24:41Speaker 3: love in the street.
- 24:42Speaker 5: Right.
- 24:42Speaker 3: And I had to go read a lot of books,
- 24:44Speaker 3: a lot of articles, you know, just to see what
- 24:46Speaker 3: was going because mind you. Now, I'm getting money, but
- 24:49Speaker 3: I don't even know what's going on in the world.
- 24:50Speaker 3: If you ask me what day it is, I wouldn't
- 24:52Speaker 3: even know the date. Yeah, I was, man, I was living, bro.
- 24:57Speaker 3: I was you know what I mean, I was. I
- 24:58Speaker 3: was here first. I you know how they say you
- 25:01Speaker 3: just going through the motions. I was just I was
- 25:02Speaker 3: just in it, bro. I was just in and waiting
- 25:04Speaker 3: on the do date. Like like every morning I woke
- 25:07Speaker 3: up and like, I'm still free. Well let me go live.
- 25:10Speaker 4: When when you finally went legit? What was that transition
- 25:15Speaker 4: that trend finally was able just to like breathe and
- 25:18Speaker 4: make the money that you want within your businesses.
- 25:21Speaker 3: I would say, that's that's recently, you know what I'm saying,
- 25:26Speaker 3: because it's like, you know, it's it's money. Don't change anything, right,
- 25:35Speaker 3: it does not, you know what I'm saying. You can give,
- 25:37Speaker 3: you know, you give somebody you see on the corner
- 25:39Speaker 3: of road towards He's still gonna have the same problems
- 25:41Speaker 3: you got, right, it doesn't matter, you know. But what
- 25:44Speaker 3: change was the quality of life? You know what I'm saying.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Because I started to give real friends. You know what
- 25:50Speaker 3: I'm saying, I started to get real people I love.
- 25:52Speaker 3: I started to you know, align myself with other people
- 25:56Speaker 3: that had their own vision in life and they was
- 25:58Speaker 3: on their path. And now we can talk about these
- 26:00Speaker 3: things the hookahspot just say down, just chop it up.
- 26:03Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, right, you feel me. But
- 26:06Speaker 3: that's the fulfillment because you're starting to align yourself with
- 26:09Speaker 3: other people. Then you start to build you know, your
- 26:11Speaker 3: personal life, and now you know and the only want
- 26:13Speaker 3: to sound you know too crazy. Now you got hobbies,
- 26:16Speaker 3: you got things that you got the time off, you
- 26:19Speaker 3: know what I mean. Now you got time to do
- 26:21Speaker 3: the things that you want to learn how to do.
- 26:23Speaker 3: And it's just a different experience because it takes your
- 26:26Speaker 3: mind out of the every day hustle and bustle of
- 26:30Speaker 3: trying to figure it out. Because mind you like we're
- 26:31Speaker 3: not you guys are doing what you love. There's no
- 26:35Speaker 3: degree for this, you know, even if you have one,
- 26:38Speaker 3: you still got to create the synergy.
- 26:40Speaker 5: So it's like.
- 26:43Speaker 3: There's no book for this, right, you just give it
- 26:46Speaker 3: your all, But then you still want to be in
- 26:47Speaker 3: a place that you can give it your all and
- 26:49Speaker 3: still enjoy your you know what, I'm saying, you still
- 26:52Speaker 3: got to have a life. You still got to have
- 26:54Speaker 3: things you like. You love, your favorite food, your play,
- 26:56Speaker 3: place to go, your time. You know, you might just
- 26:59Speaker 3: need an hour day just for yourself, just to do
- 27:01Speaker 3: whatever you like. And that's how you like, Yeah, you know,
- 27:04Speaker 3: and now I can go out here and face the world.
- 27:05Speaker 3: And I had to like start to learn that because
- 27:08Speaker 3: I always put everybody else first, right, And the minute
- 27:11Speaker 3: I started putting myself first, that's when I started really
- 27:14Speaker 3: enjoying life. And I see meaning to put myself first
- 27:17Speaker 3: in the sense of if you're on a plane and
- 27:19Speaker 3: that's going down, you got to put your mask on
- 27:21Speaker 3: before you can put somebody else's mask on.
- 27:23Speaker 5: Right.
- 27:24Speaker 4: So we're coming to the book. Now, you decided to
- 27:27Speaker 4: put all this into the book.
- 27:29Speaker 3: Why now I just feel like, like like I said,
- 27:32Speaker 3: I think it's my well, I know it's my obligation,
- 27:34Speaker 3: and I know it's people out there who because they
- 27:37Speaker 3: don't just apply to hustlers, it's applied to anybody who's
- 27:40Speaker 3: out there trying to navigate.
- 27:42Speaker 5: These are the things that I learned.
- 27:44Speaker 3: I want to share them with you because there was
- 27:46Speaker 3: not one book that I could pick up that had
- 27:48Speaker 3: me covered, and I feel like this is that book
- 27:50Speaker 3: because you know I went through it. So I'm just
- 27:53Speaker 3: telling you so it might apply to you and your
- 27:55Speaker 3: corporate job. It might apply to you and your entrepreneurship.
- 27:58Speaker 3: It might apply to you however, whatever. All these are
- 28:00Speaker 3: different life experiences that you can break down and take
- 28:03Speaker 3: bits and pieces out. And for me, it's almost like,
- 28:06Speaker 3: you know, I'm working on my second half of my life,
- 28:08Speaker 3: so why not give back and say, hey, look this
- 28:12Speaker 3: is how I did it.
- 28:13Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying.
- 28:14Speaker 3: And again, the reason why the book is called Adversity
- 28:17Speaker 3: for Sale is because people always want to sell you success,
- 28:20Speaker 3: but that ain't how they winning. They ain't winning because
- 28:23Speaker 3: of this success. They just happened to stumble up on success.
- 28:25Speaker 3: But they not telling you, boy, all the times they
- 28:27Speaker 3: lost and what they had to do to get through that.
- 28:29Speaker 3: It's almost like, yo, look at me. You know how
- 28:31Speaker 3: Instagram's going. Instagram everybody winning, everybody Instagram. Ain't nobody lose it.
- 28:37Speaker 7: We will be right back with more of The Baller
- 28:39Speaker 7: Alert Show. You're listening to a special edition of The Baller.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Alert Show, boy Jeezi, and you are now tuned in
- 28:49Speaker 3: to the Baller Alert show, we.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Talk about Agency ninety nine. At what point made you
- 28:55Speaker 1: create that?
- 28:56Speaker 5: Why? Agency nine and nine? Why did you call it?
- 28:57Speaker 3: Agency ninety nine was created because I always live by
- 29:01Speaker 3: the model of, you know, giving everybody ninety nine percent,
- 29:04Speaker 3: keep it one percent for yourself, you know what I'm saying.
- 29:06Speaker 3: So anything that I'm invested in, I want to give
- 29:09Speaker 3: it my all, but I got to keep at least
- 29:10Speaker 3: one percent for myself. AGENC ninety nine was started as
- 29:13Speaker 3: a management company because there's a lot of things that
- 29:15Speaker 3: I went through when I was being managed that I
- 29:18Speaker 3: didn't understand. So I wanted to set up a company
- 29:21Speaker 3: where you got your own CPAs, your own accounts, your
- 29:23Speaker 3: own press, your own this, you own that, and it's
- 29:26Speaker 3: boutique style.
- 29:27Speaker 5: So we got, you know, shout out to Haiti Baby.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Rory Simmons, nod Definance Fuel, So we manage brands, artists, people,
- 29:37Speaker 3: whatever and what it is. We take our infrastructure shout
- 29:40Speaker 3: out to Agency ninety nine. We take our infrastructure so
- 29:42Speaker 3: that we can help whoever we are in line with
- 29:47Speaker 3: right and it's a lot of the reasons why you
- 29:49Speaker 3: see people go to Rock Nation a lot because they
- 29:51Speaker 3: have an infrastructure of things that you just don't have
- 29:54Speaker 3: the reach to get those resources, right, And if you
- 29:57Speaker 3: go over there, you get all this and that's how
- 30:00Speaker 3: and we're setting it up so if you come over here,
- 30:01Speaker 3: you get all of what we got. So any bit
- 30:04Speaker 3: like you might come and say, I got a business idea.
- 30:06Speaker 3: We know exactly who to go talk to. You might
- 30:08Speaker 3: want to say, you want to do some real estate stuff.
- 30:10Speaker 3: You know exactly who to bring.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Y'all don't want to stop shopped.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Yeah, So if you need a banker, we got to
- 30:15Speaker 3: because all these things are through experiences. I had good bankers,
- 30:17Speaker 3: bad bankers, you know, good good lawyers, bad lawyers, So
- 30:21Speaker 3: we kept the.
- 30:22Speaker 5: Good ones, you know what I'm saying.
- 30:25Speaker 3: So it's like you might want to try him out,
- 30:27Speaker 3: and it's real because I went through, you know I
- 30:29Speaker 3: talked about in the book, I went through a situation
- 30:31Speaker 3: where you know, you know, somebody I want to see
- 30:33Speaker 3: a business with really tried to suit me for you
- 30:35Speaker 3: know everything. You know what I'm saying. And if I
- 30:38Speaker 3: hadn't had a good lawyer, I would have had to
- 30:39Speaker 3: come off of that. You know what I'm saying, Because
- 30:41Speaker 3: once you get in court, it is what it is,
- 30:44Speaker 3: you know, you know, you got you got. It's a fight,
- 30:47Speaker 3: right And my business partner brought me. Somebody said Yo,
- 30:51Speaker 3: this is the guy and walked in there. Everything we
- 30:54Speaker 3: walked down. I had to go to trial, and I
- 30:57Speaker 3: remember was in trial. So everybody got get up there
- 30:59Speaker 3: and say they piece you know, they telling their stories
- 31:01Speaker 3: about you.
- 31:02Speaker 5: Whatever.
- 31:02Speaker 3: He leaned over, he said, boy, it's a bad day
- 31:05Speaker 3: to be you.
- 31:06Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying, because basically it was throwing
- 31:08Speaker 5: me under the bus. You tat me. He said, I
- 31:10Speaker 5: don't worry about it.
- 31:11Speaker 3: We got this and we won the case, and he's
- 31:13Speaker 3: been a part of my team every since.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Now you talked to lawyer, I'm gonna keep you.
- 31:17Speaker 5: Oh yeah, but anybody did that. But that's the thing.
- 31:20Speaker 5: You got to really think about it. It's all built
- 31:21Speaker 5: on resources, you know what I'm saying.
- 31:23Speaker 3: So if you get if you if you get good
- 31:25Speaker 3: it's almost like having good friends.
- 31:27Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying.
- 31:27Speaker 3: You got a group of good friends, you got a
- 31:30Speaker 3: very high quality like life, like you got good people
- 31:33Speaker 3: around you. If you got good business people around you,
- 31:35Speaker 3: it shows in your business, it shows in your moves,
- 31:37Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying. And by the way people
- 31:39Speaker 3: measure success differently, Like you know what I'm saying, I'm
- 31:42Speaker 3: not measuring success by a dollar amount. I am measured
- 31:44Speaker 3: success by the things that I want to get done
- 31:46Speaker 3: and the best people to do it. And Magic Johnson
- 31:48Speaker 3: said it the best. If you want to be the best,
- 31:51Speaker 3: you got to hire the best. You got to have
- 31:53Speaker 3: the best you would Yeah, you feel me. And that's
- 31:55Speaker 3: the thing though, because that's what I look at, because
- 31:59Speaker 3: it's just like a lot of people don't even like
- 32:01Speaker 3: especially this generation, they don't even probably know Magic Johnson
- 32:03Speaker 3: and Shaquille O'Neill basketball players, they know that, but they
- 32:07Speaker 3: know their business the business boy.
- 32:09Speaker 4: Going to Starbucks and even though they're drinking from the
- 32:12Speaker 4: cup of magic.
- 32:13Speaker 5: Right, you feel me.
- 32:14Speaker 3: But the thing is is you got to have that
- 32:16Speaker 3: other side of life, you know what I'm saying. Me
- 32:19Speaker 3: and Roby talk about it all the time. It's like,
- 32:20Speaker 3: you got to set yourself up for the other alf.
- 32:22Speaker 3: You're gonna need money forever, you're not going to box,
- 32:25Speaker 3: and then you want to live. You want to live
- 32:28Speaker 3: the life you want to live after you did all
- 32:30Speaker 3: this work. But then you also still want to have
- 32:32Speaker 3: something that's bigger than you that you're that you're applying
- 32:35Speaker 3: yourself to every day, because that's a sense of purpose.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Because if you don't have a sense of purpose and
- 32:39Speaker 3: you just out here moving, you kind of just going
- 32:41Speaker 3: through the motions like you don't know what you're doing,
- 32:43Speaker 3: Like you don't even know where you're going. It's like
- 32:45Speaker 3: get in the car and you know, somebody telling you
- 32:47Speaker 3: to take me to California. You ain't got no GPS.
- 32:50Speaker 3: You know, you got to figure it out, you know
- 32:52Speaker 3: what I'm saying.
- 32:53Speaker 2: What's some things in a book that's really gonna shock people.
- 32:56Speaker 5: I think the vulnerability.
- 32:58Speaker 3: I think the times me telling you, like how I
- 33:01Speaker 3: really felt about something, what was really on my heart,
- 33:04Speaker 3: what was really in my mind because you know we
- 33:06Speaker 3: don't we don't talk like that, you know what I'm saying,
- 33:08Speaker 3: and writing it down in pages again was very therapeutic
- 33:10Speaker 3: for me because I was able to express it.
- 33:13Speaker 5: Was almost like journalists pages here, you know what I'm saying.
- 33:16Speaker 3: Yeah, So it was like just you know, just being open,
- 33:18Speaker 3: you know, transparent, open book. Because you know you might
- 33:21Speaker 3: hear a lot of my records. I'm gonna tell it,
- 33:23Speaker 3: you know music, I'm gonna tell it to you the
- 33:25Speaker 3: best way possible to make me sound like the hero.
- 33:28Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying.
- 33:29Speaker 3: But in the back of my mind, I'm like, oh,
- 33:33Speaker 3: oh my god, what we're gonna do?
- 33:36Speaker 5: I was gonna say.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I really love that BT highlighted you for the Hip
- 33:41Speaker 1: Hop fifty.
- 33:41Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it was who contact did they did they reach.
- 33:45Speaker 3: Out to actually shout out to Jesse Collins and uh
- 33:48Speaker 3: Latina up at Ut and.
- 33:51Speaker 5: Latina depth Jams. She was like, you're doing this.
- 33:54Speaker 3: I'm like, I don't want to do it.
- 34:00Speaker 5: It was a moment though.
- 34:01Speaker 2: No, I loved it, don't get me more.
- 34:03Speaker 5: I loved it.
- 34:04Speaker 3: But you know, I just I got this thing with
- 34:06Speaker 3: the war shows. Man, It's like, you know, I just
- 34:08Speaker 3: I don't know why you like the war shows. It
- 34:10Speaker 3: just ain't the same like going to rock Hud like
- 34:13Speaker 3: a crowd for like real people.
- 34:16Speaker 6: You feel like it's a bunch of peers and everybody
- 34:18Speaker 6: else kind.
- 34:19Speaker 3: Of like it's kind of like now that last week,
- 34:22Speaker 3: ain't standing up you talking to the phone last night?
- 34:27Speaker 2: You know.
- 34:27Speaker 3: But when you when you're when you're when you're doing
- 34:31Speaker 3: it for your your your core, you give them what
- 34:34Speaker 3: they give you. Yeah, it's like we we we we
- 34:38Speaker 3: battle each other. It's like it's like a thing. It's
- 34:40Speaker 3: like church. You know, you go to church and you
- 34:41Speaker 3: hear great sermon.
- 34:43Speaker 5: He talking to me. That's what it's like when you're
- 34:45Speaker 5: doing it.
- 34:45Speaker 3: But I will say that was probably the best Award
- 34:49Speaker 3: Show performance.
- 34:49Speaker 5: I man, why that song?
- 34:51Speaker 3: I love that song? Yeah, long lived Shorty Low and
- 34:56Speaker 3: they know, they know, and I felt like I just
- 34:59Speaker 3: wanted to spread some love there.
- 35:00Speaker 4: Man.
- 35:02Speaker 3: You know, Shaty is a big part of what we do.
- 35:04Speaker 3: And they was doing Dolph right before me and RP
- 35:10Speaker 3: to Dolph and I was just like, man, it'd be
- 35:12Speaker 3: dope through the Shorty Low and plus we all know
- 35:15Speaker 3: is jamming, and it just made sense. And I just
- 35:17Speaker 3: knew it was gonna catch the moment because we're talking
- 35:19Speaker 3: about hip hops or why not kill two birds with
- 35:21Speaker 3: one stone?
- 35:22Speaker 5: So my man, his legacy, some love and then you know,
- 35:25Speaker 5: do what I do.
- 35:26Speaker 6: Now, I know what we was talking about earlier, like
- 35:30Speaker 6: how you know being a rapper's like one of the
- 35:32Speaker 6: most dangerous jobs. I feel like a lot of the rappers,
- 35:34Speaker 6: the new generation, don't have mentors. Now, what's some of
- 35:38Speaker 6: the advice that you would give these the new generation
- 35:40Speaker 6: of artists on how to protect themselves.
- 35:43Speaker 3: I mean, just when it first starts all by knowing
- 35:46Speaker 3: that you're in a position of leadership. So people around
- 35:49Speaker 3: you gonna move how you move. So if you move
- 35:52Speaker 3: a certain way, then you got to know the extensions
- 35:54Speaker 3: of you were gonna move that way.
- 35:56Speaker 5: So that's the first part.
- 35:58Speaker 3: So if you out here and you yourself in situations,
- 36:02Speaker 3: then your people are gonna put you in situations right.
- 36:05Speaker 3: And I would say for the most part is just
- 36:08Speaker 3: like get good people around you.
- 36:10Speaker 5: It's gonna be straight up with you.
- 36:12Speaker 3: Because the thing that I've noticed in this you know
- 36:14Speaker 3: not so much now I got a great team shout
- 36:15Speaker 3: out to A ninety nine, But people don't be real
- 36:20Speaker 3: with you because they need you and you're their livelihood,
- 36:23Speaker 3: and they'll let you jump off a cliff, you know
- 36:25Speaker 3: what I mean, just to make you feel like they
- 36:27Speaker 3: down right. And then the second thing is, you know,
- 36:30Speaker 3: we always want to look out for everybody because that's
- 36:32Speaker 3: how that's what you're supposed to do to a certain extent.
- 36:35Speaker 3: But you can't let people say just because I was
- 36:37Speaker 3: with you from here, that you you're obligated to do
- 36:43Speaker 3: A B and C just because I was around, because
- 36:46Speaker 3: it got to be like, more so, what are you contributing?
- 36:49Speaker 5: Like, are you an asset or a liability? Right?
- 36:51Speaker 3: Because if that's the case, you know, you know, you
- 36:56Speaker 3: you owe everybody that you you know, right because they
- 36:59Speaker 3: all being a part of what you did, they all
- 37:01Speaker 3: told somebody about your song or whatever. But it's almost
- 37:04Speaker 3: so like if you got a lot of that around you,
- 37:06Speaker 3: you're not gonna have like real energy because their expectations
- 37:11Speaker 3: are gonna be different than yours. So that's gonna cause
- 37:13Speaker 3: a lot of resentment. So that's just bad blood you
- 37:15Speaker 3: got in your camp. And once you start getting that
- 37:17Speaker 3: bad vibe of your camp, you can't really you can't
- 37:21Speaker 3: really you can't really be productive and growth like you
- 37:25Speaker 3: can't because people around you will be sabotaging everything you're
- 37:28Speaker 3: trying to do. In some safe form of fashion, it's
- 37:31Speaker 3: gonna happen.
- 37:31Speaker 6: I've seen a lot of people talking about how hip
- 37:33Speaker 6: hop is, like, you know, kind of declining. Do you
- 37:37Speaker 6: think that's because of all these charges that these rappers
- 37:40Speaker 6: are getting hit with for their lyrics? Do you think
- 37:42Speaker 6: that people, you know, rappers are kind of like holding
- 37:44Speaker 6: back from the things that they actually want to say
- 37:46Speaker 6: in albums Now.
- 37:47Speaker 3: No, I think it's more so that it's just so saturated. Okay,
- 37:51Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying. It's just so much you know,
- 37:53Speaker 3: it's so so much music coming out as hard for
- 37:56Speaker 3: somebody that's to stand out for a long period of time.
- 37:59Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. I think that it's set
- 38:02Speaker 3: up that way. But what I will give them they
- 38:05Speaker 3: flowers on is the fact that they're able. They're better
- 38:08Speaker 3: businessmen if you ask me. You know what I'm saying,
- 38:11Speaker 3: because they most of them are going straight to consumer
- 38:14Speaker 3: or building their their notoriety of so big these labels
- 38:19Speaker 3: got to come to them and give them Lebron James checks.
- 38:22Speaker 5: When we was getting Michael Jordan checks. You see what
- 38:24Speaker 5: I'm saying.
- 38:25Speaker 3: Like they're getting a different type of money because they're
- 38:27Speaker 3: building themselves up. So by the time a label get involved,
- 38:30Speaker 3: they're already there. They don't really need the label. They're
- 38:32Speaker 3: just taking the money, right, And I think that's the difference.
- 38:34Speaker 7: We'll be right by. Stay tuned with more of The
- 38:37Speaker 7: ball Er Alert Show. You're listening to a special edition
- 38:47Speaker 7: of The Baller Alert Show.
- 38:49Speaker 3: Boy Gez and you are now tuned in to the
- 38:51Speaker 3: Ball of Alert show.
- 38:53Speaker 1: I wanted to give you some flowers real quick and
- 38:57Speaker 1: just tell you you changed my life. For the two
- 38:59Speaker 1: years I traveled in country with you, I never and
- 39:03Speaker 1: I tell bt DC and everybody all the time, can't
- 39:06Speaker 1: nobody talk about you, right? But I just wanted to
- 39:10Speaker 1: tell you changed my life because nobody had never took
- 39:15Speaker 1: me under their wing and been a real big brother
- 39:19Speaker 1: to me. So super Bowl weekend when you put this
- 39:22Speaker 1: on my.
- 39:22Speaker 5: Wrist, yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Yeah, Because I.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Remember I had to go back to work and I
- 39:32Speaker 1: was like, yo, Jesus, just put this on my wrist.
- 39:34Speaker 1: And I remember Kenny Burns is like, what are you
- 39:37Speaker 1: gonna do?
- 39:37Speaker 5: I was like, what do you mean? I keep learning it?
- 39:39Speaker 1: So I wanted to say that, And I also wanted
- 39:42Speaker 1: to say, like, just being around you, I learned how to.
- 39:46Speaker 5: I learned.
- 39:46Speaker 1: I watched you personally and I watched you as a celebrity,
- 39:51Speaker 1: and at one moment that of course we shared some
- 39:54Speaker 1: moments that I never tell, but I want to say
- 39:57Speaker 1: that you definitely taught me a lot. You want to
- 40:00Speaker 1: tell you on camera you already noticed, but I overly
- 40:03Speaker 1: appreciate you because I've applied their ways in my life,
- 40:09Speaker 1: I've learned the ways of the Hey, you know what
- 40:14Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like, let me try to articulate myself, because
- 40:17Speaker 1: I'm losing it a little bit. But I'm trying to say,
- 40:21Speaker 1: I learned from you how to keep keep my composure.
- 40:25Speaker 5: I've learned my bad job.
- 40:29Speaker 1: What else did I learn? I just learned a lot.
- 40:32Speaker 1: But I've learned how to become I don't want to
- 40:35Speaker 1: say a man, but I learned how to become a
- 40:39Speaker 1: important person because I saw how you carried yourself so presidential.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Every traveling with you was the best.
- 40:51Speaker 4: That take care of his people.
- 40:53Speaker 5: Yeah, like we traveled well.
- 40:55Speaker 1: So I just wanted to tell you, man, I took
- 40:57Speaker 1: notes every time I was around you, and and even out,
- 41:00Speaker 1: still receiving every day I received that. I'm always taking notes.
- 41:05Speaker 3: I received that, brom and I'm I received that, Bro.
- 41:08Speaker 3: And I tell you all the time. I shoot you
- 41:10Speaker 3: a text every now. Yes, yes, I love to see it.
- 41:12Speaker 5: I'm pride. I'm happy for you, man.
- 41:14Speaker 1: You I tell all over the place when you first got.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Oh yeah yeah, yeah, Bro. At the same time, I
- 41:19Speaker 3: keep telling people like that's a new riots. Crist y'all
- 41:21Speaker 3: playing He's gonna be bigger than life, you know what
- 41:22Speaker 3: I'm saying.
- 41:23Speaker 4: They want to comment on the take care of the people.
- 41:26Speaker 3: Yes, no, I was saying, but you could take care,
- 41:28Speaker 3: but you just got to make sure that that's what
- 41:30Speaker 3: they want. Like when we talk, he knew exactly what
- 41:33Speaker 3: he wanted. So our conversations was just like about how
- 41:36Speaker 3: to get to that, and then we throw him back
- 41:38Speaker 3: and forth ideas you know what I'm saying, like, yeah,
- 41:41Speaker 3: that work, you know that don't work, and then we
- 41:43Speaker 3: just and I just started to watch him.
- 41:44Speaker 5: But he wanted it and he still does.
- 41:46Speaker 3: And that's what I'm saying, Like, if you're giving somebody
- 41:48Speaker 3: information or knowledge, they got to want to want to
- 41:51Speaker 3: either use it or want to get the way they're
- 41:54Speaker 3: trying to go, because you can't make nobody get in
- 41:55Speaker 3: the car.
- 41:56Speaker 4: So helping people who help themselves, right, got you right?
- 41:59Speaker 5: I like that. See that's a bar bars, she said basically.
- 42:08Speaker 4: Now, I learned so much throughout this interview. I'm so
- 42:11Speaker 4: grateful that you took the time to come out. I
- 42:13Speaker 4: think you guys man, the vulnerability that you're sharing in
- 42:16Speaker 4: this book, I can't wait to read it and listen
- 42:17Speaker 4: to the audio version.
- 42:20Speaker 5: Laughing at me.
- 42:21Speaker 4: Now documentary or a movie to follow?
- 42:24Speaker 3: Yeah, we've been, We've been thinking about it. You know,
- 42:27Speaker 3: of course, I got a million one things going on.
- 42:30Speaker 3: I definitely want to because it's different, you know what
- 42:33Speaker 3: I'm saying, like doing a book and really putting your
- 42:37Speaker 3: life on pages. So I want to just see how
- 42:39Speaker 3: this feels for me, right, and I love the office space.
- 42:42Speaker 3: I wouldn't be surprised if you got another book before
- 42:44Speaker 3: you got a movie. I like it. It's something I
- 42:47Speaker 3: like and you can.
- 42:48Speaker 4: Sell that right basically, Yet made it after watching this.
- 42:55Speaker 4: You give motivational speak like I think every time you
- 42:58Speaker 4: open your mouth, and you know, I think that's just
- 43:00Speaker 4: your gifts.
- 43:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I learned.
- 43:02Speaker 3: You know, it's crazy because I learned a lot of
- 43:03Speaker 3: what I learned and I talk about in the book
- 43:05Speaker 3: through music, Like I learned through like Tupac. You know,
- 43:08Speaker 3: like people just listen to the music and like it.
- 43:10Speaker 3: But I was actually like in church, you know.
- 43:12Speaker 5: What I'm saying.
- 43:13Speaker 3: You know, some people just go to church on Sunday,
- 43:15Speaker 3: but a lot of people go to church. They's sitting
- 43:17Speaker 3: there and they hanging on every word. And I just
- 43:19Speaker 3: hung on a lot of his words because he had
- 43:21Speaker 3: he had morals, he had values. So I took a
- 43:24Speaker 3: little bit of that and that's why my first album
- 43:26Speaker 3: was called Thug Motivation, you know what I'm saying, because
- 43:29Speaker 3: you know, he took thug life, he made it a movement.
- 43:31Speaker 3: It wasn't just about thug and it was about standing
- 43:34Speaker 3: for something, so that you get a lot of that.
- 43:37Speaker 3: But yeah, so this is like, you know, this is
- 43:40Speaker 3: this is a long time coming, you know, and I
- 43:43Speaker 3: hope people really understand it. I'm trying to help. I'm
- 43:47Speaker 3: trying to give back and I'm trying to enlighten. I'm
- 43:49Speaker 3: trying to motivate. I'm trying to expire inspire and you know,
- 43:53Speaker 3: ain't none of us perfect.
- 43:54Speaker 5: We all try and figure it out.
- 43:56Speaker 3: But everything we can do for each other in the process,
- 43:58Speaker 3: because that's all it's really about resources, relationships and advice.
- 44:02Speaker 6: Well, we're still were still going to church because every
- 44:04Speaker 6: time you in Atlanta and you go to the club
- 44:07Speaker 6: in Atlanta, it's a jeezy set.
- 44:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and that part I remember nights. I don't remember
- 44:12Speaker 2: nice people in the club.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Do you think that that don't you think that's dope?
- 44:19Speaker 1: Because the young generation doesn't have to embrace. But they
- 44:23Speaker 1: are embracing you and they're saying your ship word for word,
- 44:26Speaker 1: and you weren't even that.
- 44:28Speaker 3: But you know, when people tell you I was five,
- 44:30Speaker 3: you know, I was in middle school, I'm like, yeah,
- 44:35Speaker 3: I gotta tell me that. I think it's I think
- 44:38Speaker 3: it's dope, man, because Lord knows, man, I went through
- 44:41Speaker 3: it all to put those words together, man, like you
- 44:43Speaker 3: you had no idea, like I went through the five
- 44:46Speaker 3: and the fact that it's still there lets me know
- 44:49Speaker 3: there wasn't in vain, you know what I'm saying. So
- 44:51Speaker 3: every day, every time I'm even when I hear the stage,
- 44:54Speaker 3: I'm like, you know, I'm gonna perform songs like I
- 44:56Speaker 3: just came out yesterday, you know, because this is this
- 45:00Speaker 3: is my life.
- 45:00Speaker 5: I love it, you know what I mean.
- 45:01Speaker 3: And I love the fact that I was able to
- 45:03Speaker 3: put together somebodies of work that they captured that, you know,
- 45:06Speaker 3: because a lot of times, you know, you can miss
- 45:08Speaker 3: the mark.
- 45:09Speaker 4: And I feel like, like I said, I think this
- 45:11Speaker 4: is going into a whole different new life, Like you
- 45:13Speaker 4: got the books right now, but I feel like it's
- 45:15Speaker 4: gonna turn into a documentary TV series, like they have
- 45:19Speaker 4: to be a meth.
- 45:19Speaker 2: It'll be like.
- 45:20Speaker 5: Something with your Jane Saint Patrick. I'll take that.
- 45:23Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, you know, and it's a whole story,
- 45:27Speaker 4: you know, and we could just you know, we can
- 45:29Speaker 4: audition to something already.
- 45:32Speaker 5: I already know the part you need to play.
- 45:39Speaker 4: Gonna be dope.
- 45:40Speaker 5: It's gonna be dope. We get out of here. That's
- 45:42Speaker 5: your camera. Get these folks some motivation.
- 45:46Speaker 4: You know.
- 45:46Speaker 3: If I can tell you anything, I just tell you know,
- 45:48Speaker 3: if you can hold it in your head, you can
- 45:50Speaker 3: hold it in your hands. And that's what I live by,
- 45:52Speaker 3: Like if you can think of it, you can do it.
- 45:54Speaker 3: And that's real, Like I hope, I'm living proof that
- 45:58Speaker 3: no matter what your circumstance. So you know, if you
- 46:01Speaker 3: stay down, you stay committed, and you stay you, it
- 46:05Speaker 3: all come back around.
