Speaker 3: Load it up show This morning. I do want to
2:05
Speaker 3: throw this out there though, before we get to our
2:08
Speaker 3: guests this morning, and of course your phone calls and
2:10
Speaker 3: text too. We did have a text to the show
2:13
Speaker 3: actually came in not long ago. If you're coming into
2:15
Speaker 3: Charleston eastbound this morning, please note there, at least early
2:19
Speaker 3: when I came in, a major, major backup. Of course,
2:22
Speaker 3: I come in, you know, around seven thirty when everybody's
2:25
Speaker 3: trying to come into Charleston. But they're doing some work
2:27
Speaker 3: out there on the interstates, and I'm talking about maybe
2:29
Speaker 3: an area from Montrose on into Charleston, and there were
2:33
Speaker 3: some major backups this morning, so that's going to be
2:35
Speaker 3: They're doing some work out there, and it looks like
2:37
Speaker 3: it's going to be a while. So just please use caution,
2:40
Speaker 3: maybe leave a little bit early if you got to
2:41
Speaker 3: come to the city for some sort of an appointment
2:43
Speaker 3: or something. Just know that you have been informed. And
2:46
Speaker 3: I appreciate our listeners for letting us know that. Coming
2:49
Speaker 3: up a little bit later on the show, last night's
2:51
Speaker 3: Canawa County Board of Education meeting, it's major bombshells dropped
2:54
Speaker 3: in that meeting, including some school consolidations, and we're not
2:58
Speaker 3: talking about just one or two. We're talking about the
3:00
Speaker 3: possibility of major consolidations if the plan goes through. Doctor
3:05
Speaker 3: Tom Williams, Superintendent Kadaan County Schools, will join us to
3:08
Speaker 3: talk about that a little bit later on. But Stephen
3:10
Speaker 3: Allen Stephen Allan Adams from Ogden Newspapers will be stopping
3:14
Speaker 3: by as well. So let's get to our first guest.
3:18
Speaker 3: Mark Carter's here, Mark Carter. I'm having trouble talking this
3:21
Speaker 3: morning for some reason. Mark Carter's here. He's a candidate
3:24
Speaker 3: for House of Delia. It's Mark, good morning, welcome to
3:25
Speaker 3: the show.
3:26
Speaker 5: Good morning to you, Dave. Thank you for having me on.
3:28
Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. Maybe you can do a
3:29
Speaker 3: little bit better than I am this morning, as seeing
3:31
Speaker 3: to be jumping all over the place.
3:32
Speaker 5: Ladies and gentlemen. You don't know how many papers this
3:35
Speaker 5: man is Sheffley. It's an amazing display of skill.
3:38
Speaker 3: Well, I don't know if it's skill. I don't know,
3:40
Speaker 3: it's it's over preparedness or something. I don't know what
3:43
Speaker 3: it is. So you're running for HOUSEA Deela gets explained
3:46
Speaker 3: the district again? What areas it covers?
3:48
Speaker 4: Sure?
3:49
Speaker 5: The district I'm running in is the fifty seventh district.
3:52
Speaker 5: It's composed of Fort Hill, the residential community west of
3:57
Speaker 5: US one, nineteen South Charles and Dunbar, the larger parts
4:02
Speaker 5: of both of those cities. It's an urban district and
4:06
Speaker 5: it has been represented by a delegate, Doug scaff He
4:11
Speaker 5: withdrew last year. He was replaced by the governor. So
4:15
Speaker 5: neither of the two candidates have been elected to the office.
4:18
Speaker 5: And I have thrown my hat in. I've been encouraged
4:20
Speaker 5: to get involved in this race. I'm delighted. I have been.
4:24
Speaker 5: If nothing else, It's been wonderful to meet the people
4:27
Speaker 5: of the district and I'm going to continue to visit
4:30
Speaker 5: with folks in the district and learn what the issues
4:34
Speaker 5: are and address those issues when I'm in office.
4:38
Speaker 3: Now, you're pretty well known Mark around the area. But
4:40
Speaker 3: for those that don't know you, give us the buyo
4:42
Speaker 3: on Mark Carter.
4:43
Speaker 5: Well, I'm a lawyer. Please don't blame me. I'm a
4:47
Speaker 5: lawyer and I've been not all bad. I've been a
4:49
Speaker 5: lawyer in West Virginia for thirty eight years in Charleston,
4:53
Speaker 5: and I have just fell in love with the state.
4:57
Speaker 5: I've had the opportunity. I'm a West Virginian by choice,
5:00
Speaker 5: but my family's from here, so I have West Virginia
5:02
Speaker 5: blood in me and I have married here. I've raised
5:06
Speaker 5: a family here. My son is now working at NASA
5:10
Speaker 5: and Fairmont as a software engineer, protecting our astronauts and
5:16
Speaker 5: our spacecraft. I have, but I've also been involved in
5:20
Speaker 5: public service, and I've loved it. I was appointed by
5:22
Speaker 5: President Bush in two thousand and two served for seven
5:25
Speaker 5: years on the Federal Service Impasses Panel. I was then
5:29
Speaker 5: appointed to chairman of that panel by President Trump and
5:33
Speaker 5: the panel I was selected to be an objective, fair
5:36
Speaker 5: arbitrator of labor issues impacting the federal government. It's my career.
5:42
Speaker 5: I've loved it. I'm going to continue to practice law,
5:46
Speaker 5: but I want to focus on my neighbors. I want
5:48
Speaker 5: to focus on our state and improving the standard of
5:54
Speaker 5: living of West Virginians. That's my goal.
5:57
Speaker 3: And I always ask people why they're running for office.
5:59
Speaker 3: I mean, and again we're talking to Mark Carter, who's
6:01
Speaker 3: a candidate for House of Delegates. You've got this resume,
6:05
Speaker 3: these things that you've done in the past, and let's
6:06
Speaker 3: face it, you don't really need to do this, but
6:09
Speaker 3: it's a want two thing for you, right.
6:11
Speaker 5: It's very much a want two thing. I think the
6:12
Speaker 5: trigger and I explained it last time I was on
6:15
Speaker 5: dave Is. I've driven up the same holler for the
6:19
Speaker 5: last thirty some years on my way to work, coming
6:22
Speaker 5: home from work, and on that trip, that short trip
6:25
Speaker 5: in this holler, I see people every morning walking out
6:29
Speaker 5: to the bus stop in various uniforms, fast food job,
6:35
Speaker 5: different types of jobs. And they're walking there because they
6:38
Speaker 5: can't afford a car. I want them to be able
6:40
Speaker 5: to afford their own car.
6:43
Speaker 3: Now, what is it that you could do to make
6:44
Speaker 3: them to be able to afford their own car.
6:46
Speaker 5: There's a lot of things that our legislature can do
6:49
Speaker 5: to help people reach their potential economically. First and foremost,
6:56
Speaker 5: we need to recruit and encourage employers to either expand
7:01
Speaker 5: their business within the valley and the state, or to
7:03
Speaker 5: come to our valley and state. The fifty seventh District
7:08
Speaker 5: has a rich history of tremendous industrial production, and we
7:12
Speaker 5: need to resuscitate that. And it's not that hard. I've
7:16
Speaker 5: been doing this for thirty eight years. I've been working
7:19
Speaker 5: with employers to help them select locations to go to.
7:23
Speaker 5: I haven't been able to convince them to come to
7:25
Speaker 5: my state because of several laws. We've addressed several of them.
7:30
Speaker 5: We need to address more of them in order to
7:33
Speaker 5: give them the proper incentives to come in and let
7:36
Speaker 5: our folks reach their economic potential.
7:39
Speaker 3: And we are seeing some people come into West Virginia
7:41
Speaker 3: in various other places. I mean, you know, we talk
7:44
Speaker 3: about New Core and we talk about these various other projects.
7:47
Speaker 3: We are seeing people come in, but not only Mark.
7:49
Speaker 3: How do we get people to come here, but how
7:51
Speaker 3: do we get our young people to want to stay here.
7:53
Speaker 3: I mean, you talked about your son who's working for NASA,
7:55
Speaker 3: but he's working in West Virginia. So that's not the
7:59
Speaker 3: case with a lot of people and their kids. They're
8:01
Speaker 3: going off to Columbus, Charlotte, Pittsburgh, you know, wherever they
8:04
Speaker 3: may be going. How do we get more people to
8:07
Speaker 3: want to stay in West Virginia.
8:09
Speaker 5: Well, people do want to stay in West Virginia, and
8:12
Speaker 5: I think that's clear. We have a wonderful state. We
8:14
Speaker 5: have a beautiful state. We have the kindest people in
8:17
Speaker 5: the United States of America. It's not a matter of
8:20
Speaker 5: getting folks to want to be here it's giving them
8:22
Speaker 5: an opportunity to be here by providing them with an
8:26
Speaker 5: opportunity for employment that doesn't hurt them financially. We're competing
8:30
Speaker 5: against North Carolina, We're competing against Virginia in order to
8:35
Speaker 5: give our people the opportunity to work and earn what
8:40
Speaker 5: they could earn in these other states. My son did it.
8:44
Speaker 5: I don't want him to be the aberration. What can
8:46
Speaker 5: we do. Here's the first thing we need to do
8:48
Speaker 5: in my district. We need to elect people who have
8:52
Speaker 5: done it before, who are in the majority party, who
8:56
Speaker 5: have the ear of the House leadership, the Senate leadership,
8:59
Speaker 5: and the governor office in order to make real change.
9:02
Speaker 5: We all know that people who are rubbing against the
9:08
Speaker 5: majority generally don't get to accomplish the objections or the
9:13
Speaker 5: objectives that they wish to. I want to work cannon
9:16
Speaker 5: glove with my good friend Roger Hanshaw. I want to
9:19
Speaker 5: work cannon glove with the new governor and with the
9:22
Speaker 5: new Senate president. And I know these people and have
9:26
Speaker 5: worked with them in the past. By being able to
9:29
Speaker 5: do that, I'm going to be able to I'm going
9:31
Speaker 5: to be able to help my neighbors get better jobs.
9:35
Speaker 5: Because we're going to bring in more employers.
9:38
Speaker 3: Talking to Mark Carter again, who is a Republican candidate
9:40
Speaker 3: for a House of Delegates District fifty seven. The day
9:43
Speaker 3: Valid show in five Any Live brought to you part

Speaker 3: the podcast Man, you start your journey towards betterhealth today.
10:09
Speaker 3: How's the campaign been so far?
10:10
Speaker 5: Market campaign's been great. I've gotten to meet a lot
10:13
Speaker 5: of different folks both in my neighborhood and in my communities,
10:17
Speaker 5: as well as in the business community. You know, Dave,
10:19
Speaker 5: I just got back from the West Virginia Business Summit,
10:22
Speaker 5: and I've been active in the State Chamber of the
10:24
Speaker 5: United States Chamber for many years. One slide really just
10:29
Speaker 5: hit me right in the gut that was presented by
10:31
Speaker 5: Rex Repass doing the West Virginia poll, and that slide
10:34
Speaker 5: reported that voters concerns this year, in this election, forty
10:39
Speaker 5: one percent of voters are concerned about the economy and
10:42
Speaker 5: about jobs, about inflation and about having a job that's
10:45
Speaker 5: going to be able to pay for those raise prices
10:48
Speaker 5: and more. All Right, everything else combined was less than
10:52
Speaker 5: forty one percent. It's a one issue election. Same time,
10:58
Speaker 5: I'm talking to business leaders about what do they need
11:01
Speaker 5: to persuade them to come to the state of West Virginia.
11:04
Speaker 5: And I've talked to them about this before, various leaders. Okay,
11:08
Speaker 5: we've made progress on taxes, we've made progress on our
11:11
Speaker 5: labor climate. What do we need now, Well, I'll tell
11:14
Speaker 5: you what they say. They say, education needs to be addressed.
11:17
Speaker 5: We need to be able to turn out people from
11:21
Speaker 5: our school systems who are able to read, write, operate
11:24
Speaker 5: a computer, who are literate. Right, it's not that big
11:30
Speaker 5: of a task. It's not that challenging, or shouldn't be.
11:34
Speaker 5: And that's going to be one of the focuses that
11:36
Speaker 5: I'm going to have when I get into office.
11:39
Speaker 3: I think it's interesting what you said about the rex
11:41
Speaker 3: repass poll and what was revealed at the at the
11:45
Speaker 3: Chamber event last week to business summit down to Greenbrier.
11:49
Speaker 3: Because Mark, we hear so many things on this show
11:52
Speaker 3: and other places about all these hot button issues, the
11:55
Speaker 3: social issues and so on and so forth. But it's
11:58
Speaker 3: and I'm not going to put you in a tough
11:59
Speaker 3: position here because I know you were concerned about those
12:01
Speaker 3: as well, but it's not what the public is really
12:05
Speaker 3: that interested in.
12:06
Speaker 5: As you said, Oh, you're one hundred percent right. What
12:08
Speaker 5: the public is interested in doesn't always jibe with what
12:12
Speaker 5: the hot media issues are. And we all know that
12:14
Speaker 5: clicks matter in the media industry, and if you hear
12:19
Speaker 5: things about librarians going to prison and such, that's going
12:23
Speaker 5: to get attention. And I'm not saying it shouldn't get
12:25
Speaker 5: attention if it merits it. But what I am saying
12:28
Speaker 5: is the most important issue facing our state today is
12:32
Speaker 5: the same one that it was fifty years ago and
12:36
Speaker 5: one hundred years ago. We don't deserve to make less
12:39
Speaker 5: in the state of West Virginia than people from Ohio
12:42
Speaker 5: or Virginia. We deserve to make the same or more,
12:46
Speaker 5: and that's the appropriate goal. And there's a way to
12:49
Speaker 5: do it. Taxes, education, labor climate are the three primary
12:56
Speaker 5: legs of this three legged stool for economic development. Where
13:00
Speaker 5: we made significant progress on two of them, we got
13:04
Speaker 5: one more to go, and I think we need to
13:06
Speaker 5: get it.
13:07
Speaker 3: In a text of the show before we let you go,
13:08
Speaker 3: someone said about your plan for job creation. You mentioned that,
13:13
Speaker 3: and you mentioned, according to the texture that your friends
13:16
Speaker 3: and you know you have, you're on a good first
13:18
Speaker 3: name basis with a lot of the legislature. But the
13:20
Speaker 3: texture wanted to know about your actual plan. Where can
13:23
Speaker 3: they see a plan? Do you have an actual plan?
13:26
Speaker 5: The actual plan for a House delegate, I'd like to
13:29
Speaker 5: see anybody. The actual plan is fairly simple. It's modeled
13:35
Speaker 5: after some research done by two or three of the
13:39
Speaker 5: think tanks in Washington that I've worked with when I
13:42
Speaker 5: was serving in President Trump's administration, and the primary basis
13:47
Speaker 5: for the plan is to have a tax system that
13:51
Speaker 5: doesn't gouge employees or businesses, to have a labor climate
13:56
Speaker 5: that doesn't insent labor disputes and strife, and to have
14:00
Speaker 5: an education system that produces average or above average students
14:05
Speaker 5: who are willing to stay and work in their state. Again,
14:08
Speaker 5: I think that we have people who want to stay home.
14:11
Speaker 5: I think that our graduates would prefer, in the best case,
14:15
Speaker 5: to remain in West Virginia. The issue is whether or
14:17
Speaker 5: not the jobs are there. We're making progress. We are
14:20
Speaker 5: hearing and seeing more and more employers coming here because
14:24
Speaker 5: they know it's a great place to establish a business.
14:28
Speaker 5: We have to create more of those opportunities for our
14:31
Speaker 5: citizens through more of those employees.
14:33
Speaker 3: Do you have a website or social media where somebody
14:35
Speaker 3: can find out more about you?
14:36
Speaker 5: Absolutely? The website is Mark Carter for wv dot com.
14:41
Speaker 5: You can go to Facebook and see the posts regarding
14:44
Speaker 5: the campaign, what's going on, and what I'm actually saying.
14:48
Speaker 5: And for the Texter, please go to the website. Give
14:51
Speaker 5: me a call. I'm happy to talk to you, and
14:53
Speaker 5: I'm also happy to plant a yard sign in your
14:56
Speaker 5: lawn if you would like one. And that goes for
14:58
Speaker 5: all of your audience.
15:00
Speaker 3: Give me thirty seconds watching somebody vote for you.
15:03
Speaker 5: Because I am in a position where I will be
15:06
Speaker 5: able to work with House leadership, and let's face it,
15:10
Speaker 5: Roger Hanschaw encouraged me to do this because he thinks
15:13
Speaker 5: that I'm up to the job, and I have had
15:17
Speaker 5: nothing but encouragement from all of the friends I have
15:20
Speaker 5: within both the Senate and the House of Delegates, and
15:24
Speaker 5: the Governor's office, frankly, who think that I can make
15:27
Speaker 5: a positive contribution for our state. I passed on a
15:32
Speaker 5: substantial position in Washington, d C. That I would have
15:36
Speaker 5: received during the current administration. And I'm a Republican because
15:40
Speaker 5: I wanted to stay home and help my folks, my people,
15:44
Speaker 5: my family, my friends in the state of West Virginia.
15:47
Speaker 5: I'm committed to doing it. Like I said the first
15:50
Speaker 5: time I was on here, I'm going to go after it.
15:52
Speaker 5: I'm going to get it.
15:54
Speaker 3: Mark Carter, Republican for District fifty seven in the House.

Speaker 9: Good morning? Let me defend you for a moment, Dave.
19:41
Speaker 9: On that thing in regards to population. The problem with
19:44
Speaker 9: the population charts is that's factoring in people that die,
19:48
Speaker 9: and it's factoring in, obviously people that move or whatnot.
19:52
Speaker 10: The one thing.
19:53
Speaker 9: That's not really that you can't see is the inward
19:55
Speaker 9: migration numbers. And the dirty secret is the inward migration
19:59
Speaker 9: numbers of the state of West Virginia had been up.
20:02
Speaker 9: Now not buy a lot, but they are actually up.
20:05
Speaker 9: People are moving here. The problem is people are dying
20:08
Speaker 9: faster than what they're moving here.
20:10
Speaker 3: So people just shouldn't die.
20:11
Speaker 10: That's exactly right.
20:12
Speaker 3: We should listen, Grandma, hang on.
20:14
Speaker 9: Yeah, let's bring immortality back.
20:16

20:20

20:22
Speaker 3: text was even there. We didn't talk about doing the break.
20:24
Speaker 2: I just roll.
20:25
Speaker 3: I appreciate it, man. But that's a very good point though,
20:28
Speaker 3: I mean, and one of the things. And you're somebody
20:31
Speaker 3: that has had an opportunity to work in other markets,
20:33
Speaker 3: but you're a West Virginia guy, and he chose Pleasan's
20:36
Speaker 3: County chose to be here. I'm a West Virginia guy
20:39
Speaker 3: who chose to be here. The problem is is that
20:42
Speaker 3: we got to get more of us to want to
20:45
Speaker 3: remain here. I mean, we want, we want, as you said,
20:47
Speaker 3: outward migration, we want people coming in, but we got
20:50
Speaker 3: to get more people, especially not old guys like us,
20:53
Speaker 3: but especially we need to have you know, these twenty three,
20:56
Speaker 3: twenty four to twenty five year olds that are maybe
20:58
Speaker 3: just getting out of college, or even if they don't
21:00
Speaker 3: go to college, just whatever that their post high school
21:03
Speaker 3: training is. We got to get them to want to
21:05
Speaker 3: stay here.
21:06
Speaker 2: You know.
21:07
Speaker 9: One of the I think West Virginia Pawlo broadcasting a
21:09
Speaker 9: few years ago to a thing called the Struggle to Stay,
21:11
Speaker 9: and I never liked that terminology. And I get some
21:15
Speaker 9: people leave the state for say politics, for example, the
21:19
Speaker 9: state has gotten more read. I get that, though almost
21:22
Speaker 9: everyone that tells me that they're leaving because of the
21:24
Speaker 9: state's politics tell me they're going to a state that's
21:26
Speaker 9: more red than we are, like Ohio or Florida. So
21:29
Speaker 9: I'd be navigates that. But I almost moved out of
21:33
Speaker 9: here probably twenty thirteen. I was up for a job
21:36
Speaker 9: in DC. Ultimately didn't get it, so I stayed, and
21:41
Speaker 9: I'm glad that I did stay.

21:44
Speaker 9: From Ioming County. I'm from Pleasants County. You know, we've
21:48
Speaker 9: made it work, and you're right, we need people, especially
21:52
Speaker 9: young adults, middle aged adults, to make it a point
21:56
Speaker 9: to stay here and create what we would like to
22:00
Speaker 9: see and build that now. That way more people will

22:19
Speaker 3: Hopy yesterday and I was shocked. Shocked. I say that
22:22
Speaker 3: people aren't paying attention to the news. Case in point,
22:26
Speaker 3: the info that came out as part of the West
22:27
Speaker 3: Virginia poll, and Brad has a story posted about at
22:30
Speaker 3: WV metronews dot com. You probably wrote about it as well.
22:33
Speaker 3: The majority of people polled said they have heard quote
22:36
Speaker 3: little or nothing at all about the financial issues surrounding
22:41
Speaker 3: governor and Republican nominee for US said at Jim Johnson's
22:44
Speaker 3: they say they've heard little or nothing at all about it.
22:47
Speaker 9: Well, I'm personally not surprised, and I don't know if
22:50
Speaker 9: you're being sarcastic there, but I'm not being very hard Okay, good,
22:55
Speaker 9: You're like, as they say in Tommy Boy, I could
22:58
Speaker 9: detect it because you're laying it on thick. Yeah, I
23:02
Speaker 9: can tell you I could write about a story name,
23:05
Speaker 9: you know, just pick a story. I could write about
23:07
Speaker 9: that several times, say five or six times over a
23:10
Speaker 9: span of a couple months. I will still get the
23:13
Speaker 9: inevitable email from a reader that's mad because nobody's covering
23:18
Speaker 9: this issue, and why aren't you covering this issue? And
23:20
Speaker 9: I send that person back all five or six links,
23:23
Speaker 9: like what are you talking about? I have been writing
23:25
Speaker 9: about this issue non stop, the same thing for this Unfortunately,
23:29
Speaker 9: you got a lot of voters out there. I've never
23:32
Speaker 9: liked to term like low info. It makes them sound stupid.
23:35
Speaker 9: They're not stupid, but they're just not paying attention until
23:38
Speaker 9: closer to say, early voting or even election day itself,
23:41
Speaker 9: so they're not really reading the front page of the
23:44
Speaker 9: paper or going for the inside for the local page,
23:46
Speaker 9: or to go into the sports page or Unfortunately, we
23:49
Speaker 9: seem to be more interested in national news more than
23:51
Speaker 9: anything else. To focus a lot on that. They're not
23:54
Speaker 9: reading a lot of this news, particularly about Jim Justice
23:58
Speaker 9: and his financials, and none of this is new news.
24:00
Speaker 9: You know. This was this came up in sixteen. It
24:02
Speaker 9: came up in twenty and it's coming up now. I
24:06
Speaker 9: will hear from people, I guarantee it. They're like, why
24:08
Speaker 9: didn't you worry about this issue? Like are you kidding?
24:11
Speaker 9: Like all I've done is right about this issue. People
24:13
Speaker 9: just aren't paying any attention and they probably won't tool
24:16
Speaker 9: closer to it in election.
24:16
Speaker 3: Well what about those people that are paying attention that
24:18
Speaker 3: simply don't care?
24:20
Speaker 2: Steven?
24:20
Speaker 3: I had someone the other day who is a big
24:22
Speaker 3: Jim Justice supporter tell me that the only one that
24:25
Speaker 3: cares about these issues this was his words or the media.
24:28
Speaker 3: No one else seems to care about this. I mean,
24:30
Speaker 3: look at Jim Justice's popularity. I mean, polls come out,
24:33
Speaker 3: He's going. With all due respect to Wheeling mayor Glenn Elliott,
24:36
Speaker 3: Jim Justice is going to win and when big come
24:39
Speaker 3: November and he's going to be the next US Senator.
24:42
Speaker 3: Now how long he'll be there it seems to be
24:44
Speaker 3: quite a bit of debate, and it will debate that
24:46
Speaker 3: when the time comes. But is it the fact that
24:49
Speaker 3: they are that they know about it and just simply
24:51
Speaker 3: just don't just don't care.
24:53
Speaker 9: Well, I'll give you an example. I was at the
24:55
Speaker 9: West Virginia Chamber of Commerce Business Summit all three days
24:58
Speaker 9: last week. I didn't stay at the Great, I stayed
25:00
Speaker 9: out of Super eight, but I was there. Basically, I'm
25:04
Speaker 9: a newspaper reporter. I make good money, but it's not
25:07
Speaker 9: that good.
25:08
Speaker 3: If you're at the immediate people are staying to the Greenbrier.
25:10
Speaker 3: You guys are sharing like eight to a room probably.
25:12
Speaker 10: Oh yeah, like bunk beds for sure. Yeah.
25:16
Speaker 9: It's one of those situations where I've talked to a
25:17
Speaker 9: few people there, and the sense I get is, I
25:20
Speaker 9: think people are tired of the things that they do
25:24
Speaker 9: keep seeing about Jim Justice. I think they're kind of
25:27
Speaker 9: tired of the stick. I think they're tired of these headlines.
25:30
Speaker 9: But with all that being said, I kept getting told
25:33
Speaker 9: that they're going to vote for him anyway. And most
25:35
Speaker 9: of them are going to vote for him anyway. Is
25:37
Speaker 9: they want to make sure that the Senate gets to
25:39
Speaker 9: at least fifty one to forty nine, which I think
25:42
Speaker 9: they expect that with Republicans in the majority, they know
25:46
Speaker 9: Justice will be a dedicated vote for the Republican side
25:49
Speaker 9: of things. And also many people don't really think he's
25:53
Speaker 9: going to be there all six years now, we've heard
25:55
Speaker 9: that for the first two terms of Governor Justice's term
25:57
Speaker 9: if he wouldn't serve out either. But there is the
26:00
Speaker 9: real possibility that he could not serve out an entire
26:03
Speaker 9: six year term. So I think people are tired of
26:06
Speaker 9: this stuff, but they're going to vote for him anyway
26:08
Speaker 9: because they want that our name on that particular space.
26:14
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you're right. Senator Manchin Steven is going to
26:17
Speaker 3: be on with Hopy at the top of the show
26:19
Speaker 3: this morning. What's the future, if any for Joe Mancham.
26:22
Speaker 3: He's not going to go away. I mean we all
26:23
Speaker 3: know that. What do you see in the future for
26:26
Speaker 3: Joe Manchem? But it depends on man. Does it depend
26:29
Speaker 3: on who's elected come November?
26:31
Speaker 9: I think it does depend on who is elected come November.
26:34
Speaker 9: I think if it's Justice, I think Mansion works with
26:37
Speaker 9: his daughter, Heather Brush, who formed that pack that they're
26:41
Speaker 9: trying to do to five out one C FOURD. It's
26:43
Speaker 9: going to be focused pretty much on moderates and independence
26:46
Speaker 9: and trying to get people to pay attention to that
26:49
Speaker 9: side of things and try to bring the fringes of
26:52
Speaker 9: the right and left back towards the center. I think
26:55
Speaker 9: if Kamala Harris is elected president in November. I think
27:00
Speaker 9: there's a real opportunity that Justice will angle for a
27:04
Speaker 9: position in her cabinet of some sort.
27:06
Speaker 10: I could actually see that what that was he was.
27:08
Speaker 3: Supposed to talk let me just interrupt here on Hoppy's
27:11
Speaker 3: show and in the show notes that we all share
27:13
Speaker 3: the show, he's supposed to talk about about the Harris
27:16
Speaker 3: Walls ticket. That's one of the things he's supposed to
27:19
Speaker 3: talk about with Hoppy today. It'd be interesting to get
27:20
Speaker 3: his take on that.
27:21
Speaker 9: Yeah, No, I mean he came out obviously, we knew
27:24
Speaker 9: there was at least a brief moment where he toy
27:26
Speaker 9: about getting back into the race as a Democrat, trying to.
27:29
Speaker 3: Throw four hours on that Sunday, four.
27:31
Speaker 9: Hours on that Sunday. Absolutely, but he did very quickly
27:35
Speaker 9: call us around Kamala Harris, and he was very quick
27:39
Speaker 9: to throw his support behind Tim Walls when he got
27:41
Speaker 9: named as the vice presidential pick for for Harris. So
27:45
Speaker 9: he seems to be all in on that, and that's
27:48
Speaker 9: probably a good thing for them because Mansion, as someone
27:52
Speaker 9: who is a moderate, can recruit more moderates independence to
27:56
Speaker 9: vote for Harris. So there may be a future for
27:59
Speaker 9: him on in that realm.
28:02
Speaker 11: If she gets elected, tex says, hey day, the young
28:04
Speaker 11: people are leaving for two reasons, job opportunities and horrible
28:08
Speaker 11: politics from the super majorities on both sides over the years.
28:13
Speaker 9: I'll go back. I'll go back to what I said earlier.
28:16
Speaker 9: I know a lot of people who have told me
28:18
Speaker 9: they're leaving the state for politics. Okay, well where are
28:21
Speaker 9: you going. Well, I'm going to Columbus, Ohio. You're going
28:26
Speaker 9: to a red state. Yes, you're going to a city
28:28
Speaker 9: that is blue in a red state, but you're going
28:30
Speaker 9: to a red state. I had someone else go, I'm
28:32
Speaker 9: going I'm going to Florida. You're going to another part
28:36
Speaker 9: of your red state. Now, you might be going to
28:38
Speaker 9: some big city like Orlando or Fort Lauderdale or something
28:42
Speaker 9: like that, but look, most of.
28:44
Speaker 3: It comes out of the capitol. Yeah, is going to
28:47
Speaker 3: govern what goes on in.
28:48
Speaker 9: Your ecly Yeah? No, I mean it's just one of
28:50
Speaker 9: those things where unless you're telling me you're going to
28:53
Speaker 9: California or New York, and good luck with that because
28:55
Speaker 9: those places are expensive, you're probably going to Tennessee or
28:59
Speaker 9: you're going to Texas. You're going to a different red state.
29:02
Speaker 10: It's not.
29:02
Speaker 9: You could say it's politics, but I think there's other
29:05
Speaker 9: factors at work.
29:07
Speaker 3: Tex says today, the reason why folks don't care about
29:09
Speaker 3: Jim Justice except the media is because most don't listen
29:11
Speaker 3: to the media because they don't trust them. This includes
29:14
Speaker 3: local media. They don't trust us.
29:17
Speaker 9: Steve oh Man, Well, I mean, I don't know what
29:19
Speaker 9: to tell you if you don't trust us, because I
29:21
Speaker 9: mean I can understand to some extent some distrust in
29:24
Speaker 9: national media. I don't think local media has given anybody
29:29
Speaker 9: any reason to distrust them again, or all people that
29:33
Speaker 9: live here, that know the areas, that know everything about
29:39
Speaker 9: the state, and pretty much everyone that you hear, whether
29:42
Speaker 9: it's Amelia brad I can go down the list.
29:45
Speaker 10: Most of us are from here in some part of.
29:48
Speaker 9: The state, and I just don't think local media, whether
29:52
Speaker 9: you're talking about newspapers, radio, TV, I don't think we've
29:56
Speaker 9: given anyone that reason to have that same level of
29:59
Speaker 9: this trust.
30:00
Speaker 10: But could well, I mean.
30:01
Speaker 3: A lot of that I think, too, Stephen comes from
30:03
Speaker 3: the top, because a lot of these people have heard
30:06
Speaker 3: the term fake news, fake news and look like you
30:08
Speaker 3: said on the national media. Fox News admitted in court
30:11
Speaker 3: that they're not a news organization, okay. And that's okay.
30:15
Speaker 3: I mean Rush Limbaugh, who was one of my idols,
30:17
Speaker 3: you know, because he basically saved AM Radio. Rush never
30:20
Speaker 3: claimed to be a trusted news source. He gave opinions,
30:24
Speaker 3: he said he entertainment. He was an entertainer. And uh
30:26
Speaker 3: and and that's and that's a big part of it.
30:28
Speaker 3: But I think though that that as you said about
30:32
Speaker 3: about local media and the texture, and I appreciate the texture,
30:35
Speaker 3: you know, putting that out there because sometimes, you know,
30:37
Speaker 3: we all need to be called to the carpet every
30:39
Speaker 3: now and then. But I will tell you we all
30:41
Speaker 3: get along in the media game here in this area.
30:44
Speaker 3: But there's no union meeting. You know, we all don't
30:47
Speaker 3: get together. We don't get talking points from you know,
30:49
Speaker 3: President Steve Adams, who sends us out to you know,
30:52
Speaker 3: to says, okay, today we're gonna cover this. We're gonna
30:54
Speaker 3: we're all gonna talk about that. And and I will say,
30:56
Speaker 3: you mentioned Amelia Nicely, who I think is a is
30:59
Speaker 3: a brilliant reporter. She got called out yesterday and you
31:03
Speaker 3: probably know the exact tweet, and I don't have it
31:05
Speaker 3: in front of me by somebody, and I thought it
31:07
Speaker 3: was just total crap.
31:08
Speaker 10: What the do.
31:10
Speaker 3: You you know what? You know what I'm referring to?
31:11
Speaker 9: I do get well, I don't obviously have it in
31:14
Speaker 9: front of me, and I will tell you I've been
31:16
Speaker 9: privy to this information for for some time. Basically dhr
31:21
Speaker 9: or I think it was the OHS communications person there
31:25
Speaker 9: had written a letter to Amelia and her editors I
31:29
Speaker 9: believe that basically called her out, said she was unfair,
31:33
Speaker 9: she was.
31:33
Speaker 3: Seeking Here's the quote Amelia said. When I contacted the
31:38
Speaker 3: director of communications, try to smooth things over, I was
31:40
Speaker 3: told Amelia's reporting only seeks to harm and misinformed West Virginia.
31:44
Speaker 3: That is the biggest load of crap I've ever heard
31:47
Speaker 3: in my entire life. And that person should be ashamed
31:48
Speaker 3: of themselves, absolutely.
31:51
Speaker 9: And this is all because of an editorial that the
31:54
Speaker 9: West Virginia Watch editor in chief Leeann Ray had put
31:57
Speaker 9: out yesterday talking about issues with DAHS, which I have
32:01
Speaker 9: had too, particularly in recent weeks over this childcare subsidy issue,
32:06
Speaker 9: which uh I got to tell you, We're all at
32:09
Speaker 9: the point of zero trust, not necessarily with Governor Justice
32:13
Speaker 9: himself per se, but certainly with administration officials and particularly
32:17
Speaker 9: communications officials in the administration. Between what has happened with Brad.
32:21
Speaker 9: I'm glad Brad got back onto briefing last week.
32:24
Speaker 5: He's back.
32:24
Speaker 10: He's back tomorrow by mister, We're glad he's back.
32:30
Speaker 3: Jeff, can you get me some music with the word
32:31
Speaker 3: vile in it for when Brad's on the show tomorrow.
32:34
Speaker 10: Work on that for Yeah.
32:35
Speaker 9: It's it's something we've all dealt with one issue after
32:40
Speaker 9: the next when it comes to covering this administration, particularly,
32:43
Speaker 9: and it's only really been in the last year. I
32:45
Speaker 9: had a better relationship with Jordan Dammer and it used
32:47
Speaker 9: to be communications director over there. I don't know why
32:51
Speaker 9: it's changed and where it's coming from, but we the
32:55
Speaker 9: trust is omo zero and we're all just kind of
32:58
Speaker 9: counting down tool, you know, in January.
33:01
Speaker 3: At this point, let me read a couple of texts
33:02
Speaker 3: before we let you go. Texas, you're talking about young
33:04
Speaker 3: people who tend to care about their reproductive rights and
33:06
Speaker 3: climate change, both subjects where West Virginia policies are extreme right.
33:12
Speaker 3: That is a very good point in my opinion. Texas.
33:15
Speaker 3: Neither of the states that Steven mentioned have total abortion bands.
33:19
Speaker 3: Says a texter. All right, what are you working on today?
33:22
Speaker 3: I gotta let you go. What are you working on today?
33:23
Speaker 9: Sure, Governor's briefing this afternoon, so we'll see what he
33:27
Speaker 9: has to say about a great many things. And I
33:31
Speaker 9: haven't decided if I'm signing on ask a question yet
33:34
Speaker 9: or not. But that's the sort of the big thing today.
33:36
Speaker 9: It's kind of quiet week this week.

36:50
Speaker 14: Thank you, thanks for having me.
36:52
Speaker 3: You know, doctor, no one likes to hear the words
36:54
Speaker 3: consolidations or closures. But the Knagh County Board meeting last night,
36:58
Speaker 3: Aaron Parker's got a story posted out of wv metronews
37:01
Speaker 3: dot com and as the story pointed out, the conversations
37:04
Speaker 3: have started. Let me recap and then we'll get your comments.
37:07
Speaker 3: We could be looking at two middle school consolidations and
37:10
Speaker 3: the merging of four elementary schools in Kanawa County Eastern
37:14
Speaker 3: Kanaw into one larger news school. And as for the
37:17
Speaker 3: middle schools, we're talking about East Bank and DuPont middle
37:20
Speaker 3: schools possibly consolidating, as well as the middle schools of
37:23
Speaker 3: McKinley and Hayes in Saint Albans. And then back to
37:26
Speaker 3: the elementary schools, the possibility of a consolidation of mary Ingles, Malden,
37:30
Speaker 3: Middland Trail and Bell into one large school. That's a
37:34
Speaker 3: large that's a lot of schools, Doctor Williams, it is.
37:37
Speaker 14: And again this is this is something that no one,
37:40
Speaker 14: the board and myself included, ever want to talk about.
37:43
Speaker 14: But you know, when we've lost close to five thousand
37:46
Speaker 14: students in the last ten years, and we continue to
37:49
Speaker 14: lose students, we can no longer continue to operate the
37:53
Speaker 14: same number of facilities. We would be able to move
37:57
Speaker 14: East Bank into DuPont with no call to the county,
38:01
Speaker 14: and the same with McKinley into Hayes. For the elementary section,
38:06
Speaker 14: I will present a project to the School Building Authority,
38:09
Speaker 14: the SBA, and if they approved the project, then we
38:15
Speaker 14: would be able to build a new school, which wouldn't
38:18
Speaker 14: open until sometime in twenty eight in that area, probably
38:22
Speaker 14: the fall of twenty eight. But I think it would
38:25
Speaker 14: be a great opportunity to have the elementary students in
38:29
Speaker 14: the East End begin because they all will feed in
38:32
Speaker 14: the riverside, so they begin to make lifelong friends and
38:36
Speaker 14: things of that nature. The two middle school consolidations, you know,
38:42
Speaker 14: those could happen next year. And again it's not something
38:46
Speaker 14: that we like doing. But when I look at the
38:48
Speaker 14: bottom line, we have to have a balanced budget. And
38:51
Speaker 14: you know, people say, well, money's more important than kids. No,
38:54
Speaker 14: actually it's not. But we have to have money in
38:57
Speaker 14: order to run the programming and things that we have
39:00
Speaker 14: for all of our students, so I do have to
39:03
Speaker 14: look at the bottom line.
39:04
Speaker 3: And doctor Williams, it is important to note that these
39:06
Speaker 3: are only discussions. At this point. You talked about the
39:09
Speaker 3: number of students that we had lost and sometimes we
39:12
Speaker 3: talk and actually with my other guest, Steven Allen Adams
39:15
Speaker 3: of Ogden Newspapers, we were talking about population loss. It's
39:18
Speaker 3: not always about just population loss. I mean, you know,
39:21
Speaker 3: public schools are losing numbers, and not everybody's moving out
39:25
Speaker 3: of state. There are other are other ways to educate
39:27
Speaker 3: kids now. People are looking at charter schools, or they're
39:29
Speaker 3: looking at homeschooling. There's a lot of factors at play here, sir,
39:33
Speaker 3: there are.
39:34
Speaker 14: And one thing that's interesting sad for our county is
39:39
Speaker 14: that our birth rate and death rate are almost inverted now.
39:42
Speaker 14: In other words, we're almost to the point where we
39:45
Speaker 14: have more people dying than babies being born. So you
39:48
Speaker 14: know that's not good either, that for the future. That
39:53
Speaker 14: that doesn't make things look good for the future either.
39:56
Speaker 5: Yeah.
39:56
Speaker 3: Again, we're talking with doctor Tom Williams, superintendent of Kanawa
39:59
Speaker 3: County's Schools, And this was all brought out at the
40:01
Speaker 3: meeting that was held last night. There are going to
40:03
Speaker 3: be public hearings planned to discuss this.
40:06
Speaker 14: Is that right, that's correct. The board will we will
40:09
Speaker 14: have hearings beginning in October. Uh, and we encourage folks, uh,
40:15
Speaker 14: anyone that's interested actually, but especially those in the schools
40:19
Speaker 14: that will be affected, to attend those public hearings and
40:23
Speaker 14: give the board there and myself their ideas and thoughts,
40:27
Speaker 14: and then the board will make a decision and uh
40:30
Speaker 14: then we'll go from there.
40:32
Speaker 3: And you've been doing this for a while, doctor Williams.
40:34
Speaker 9: Uh.
40:34
Speaker 3: These conversations are never ever easy. And I'm sure that
40:38
Speaker 3: most people are reasonable people. They understand why these things
40:41
Speaker 3: are being looked at. But when you talk about taking
40:44
Speaker 3: you know, schools are the heartbeat of local communities, especially
40:48
Speaker 3: in smaller communities like the eastern Kanaan County and the
40:50
Speaker 3: ones that you mentioned. This is where these schools, that's
40:53
Speaker 3: where everything happens. That's where the boy Scouts meet, that's
40:55
Speaker 3: where the you know, the uh water meetings are held.
40:58
Speaker 3: That's the kind of the gathering place. And it's it's sad,
41:02
Speaker 3: but it is a sad reality, sir.
41:04
Speaker 14: That You're exactly right, and everyone likes their small school.
41:09
Speaker 14: But the way we're funded. We're funded based on a
41:13
Speaker 14: pertuble basis. We've lost approximately five thousand kids the last
41:18
Speaker 14: ten years. That's five hundred faculty positions and about twenty
41:22
Speaker 14: nine to thirty million dollars, and so you know, we
41:25
Speaker 14: can't continue to operate. I love the small schools. I
41:30
Speaker 14: think they're wonderful, but we're just not able to continue
41:33
Speaker 14: to operate like that any longer.
41:35
Speaker 3: Doctor Tom Williams, I know you're busy guy. I appreciate
41:37
Speaker 3: you taking time at your schedule to be here this morning.
41:39
Speaker 3: What message as we close would you want to say
41:42
Speaker 3: to the parents and grandparents are the faculty, What message
41:45
Speaker 3: do you want to put out there this morning? Sir?
41:47
Speaker 14: I think the message would be, I'm sorry that we
41:50
Speaker 14: have to go down this road. We understand your emotions
41:54
Speaker 14: and your feelings. You know, one of the schools that's
41:57
Speaker 14: been consolidated, my wife and two kids went to, and
42:00
Speaker 14: so I'm hearing it at home as well. But you know,
42:03
Speaker 14: it's all I can say is we're sorry we have
42:06
Speaker 14: to go down this road, but it's something that we
42:08
Speaker 14: have to do well.
42:09
Speaker 3: These are discussions, as you said, at this point, but
42:11
Speaker 3: it certainly looks like it is going to be a reality,
42:13
Speaker 3: and there are public hearings planned. I urge people to
42:15
Speaker 3: go check out Aaron Parker's story posted this morning at
42:18
Speaker 3: wv Metro news dot com. Doctor Williams, You're always welcome
42:21
Speaker 3: on the show. We'll have you on again maybe as
42:22
Speaker 3: we get closer at the time for those public hearings.
42:24
Speaker 3: I appreciate you being here.
42:25
Speaker 14: I appreciate you. Thank you so much.
42:27
Speaker 3: Thank you, doctor Tom Williams, superintendent of public schools here
42:31
Speaker 3: in Kenawa County. Yeah, you know, I come from an
42:34
Speaker 3: area that school consolidation was a major, major deal back
42:38
Speaker 3: in the nineteen seventies and eighties when I was in school,
42:41
Speaker 3: and and it's nobody likes to see that community school
42:44
Speaker 3: go away. And it's just we can do an entire
42:49
Speaker 3: week's worth of shows on population loss and again as wet,
42:54
Speaker 3: it's kind of interesting that I had doctor Stephen doctor
42:56
Speaker 3: call it doctor Stephen Adams twice. Doctor he's not a
42:59
Speaker 3: doctor good, but he's not a doctor Steven Adams on.
43:02
Speaker 3: I had Stephen's scheduled a couple of days ago, and
43:04
Speaker 3: then this news broke for the meeting last night, and
43:06
Speaker 3: I'm going to give a big shout out to Brianna
43:08
Speaker 3: Warner over at the Superintendent's in the office because I
43:11
Speaker 3: was able to get with her earlier this morning to
43:13
Speaker 3: get doctor Williams scheduled. It is interesting though that we
43:15
Speaker 3: had those two back to back and a lot of
43:17
Speaker 3: the same things came out in both of our talks,
43:20
Speaker 3: both of our interviews. Is that it's not just about
43:24
Speaker 3: population loss. It's about we are people are dying at
43:28
Speaker 3: a faster rate than babies are being born in West Virginia.
43:32
Speaker 3: And again, as I said, this is not just and
43:35
Speaker 3: doctor Williams agreed with me, this is not just about
43:40
Speaker 3: population loss in West Virginia. Yeah, we've lost we've lost
43:44
Speaker 3: a lot. Yeah, absolutely, But parents now have more choices
43:48
Speaker 3: when it comes to their kids education and more and
43:51
Speaker 3: more people, it seems, and it's this is not exclusive
43:55
Speaker 3: to Kanawaccounty. This goes on in other areas as well.
43:58
Speaker 3: More and more people, more and more parents, are grand parents,
44:00
Speaker 3: are choosing to look at alternate ways of education for
44:05
Speaker 3: their kids. I mean, it's it is what it is,
44:08
Speaker 3: whether it's charter schools, whether it's private schools, whether it's homeschool.
44:11
Speaker 3: COVID added to that, So it's it's it's an unfortunate situation.
44:17
Speaker 3: It really is. I would urge you though, that if
44:19
Speaker 3: you're one of the people that is concerned about this,
44:23
Speaker 3: that you attend these public mere meetings. I don't know
44:25
Speaker 3: what good it's going to do, but at least you
44:27
Speaker 3: can have your voice heard. And again we'll be talking
44:29
Speaker 3: about it, as doctor Williams said, they'll be in October.
44:32
Speaker 3: Go check out Aaron's story at wv Metronews dot com.
44:35
Speaker 3: He's got a lot of information in it there as well.

47:08
Speaker 3: produce my show if he wears the Jeff Gordon hat. Sorry, dude,
47:10
Speaker 3: you're out. You know, not happening. Man, Don't don't get
47:13

47:15
Speaker 3: a Jeff Gordon hat in public.
47:17
Speaker 10: Hey will, I will proudly wear this.
47:19
Speaker 8: Jeff Gordon had anywhere, and I did at Richmond Raceway

48:40
Speaker 3: It says, Dave, your show is fair, but Hoppy's gone
48:43
Speaker 3: off the deep end with Jim Justice and Trump. I
48:45
Speaker 3: listened here from Florida and it's striking about Hoppy. It's
48:48

49:07
Speaker 3: was a big and long city council we need in
49:10
Speaker 3: Morgantown last night. I mentioned this a little bit on
49:12
Speaker 3: the show yesterday. There's been quite the debate in Morgantown
49:15
Speaker 3: about the homeless and specifically a proposed anti camping band.
49:20
Speaker 3: Well that ban passed last night in Morgantown, and one
49:24
Speaker 3: of the members of the city Council at Morgantown will
49:27
Speaker 3: join Hoppy to talk about that. That's the lead story
49:30
Speaker 3: this morning at wv Metronews dot com. And I point
49:32
Speaker 3: that out. The reason I have mentioned it so many
49:34
Speaker 3: times on this show is because there's a lot of
49:36
Speaker 3: mirrors between what goes on in some of our areas
49:38
Speaker 3: here Charleston and other cities as well. But again, Hobby
49:41
Speaker 3: is going to get into that. Rex Repass has been
49:44
Speaker 3: on Hoppy a lot here lately with results of the
49:45
Speaker 3: Metro News West Virginia poll and he's got some new
49:48
Speaker 3: polling numbers out will go over those with Hoppy. Also,

51:01
Speaker 3: will mention this. I had talked about this a little
51:03
Speaker 3: bit yefter. I did take a little bit of time
51:05
Speaker 3: off last week, a week and a day actually, because
51:07
Speaker 3: of you know, the Labor Day holiday as well. I
51:09
Speaker 3: was actually back in town before then, though I was
51:11
Speaker 3: spending records, because that's what I will always call it,
51:14
Speaker 3: even though there's no records anywhere in sight on the mountain,
51:17
Speaker 3: on our classic rock station, but on Sunday. But I
51:20
Speaker 3: will say this, I know you wanted to see my
51:22
Speaker 3: vacation slides. There there are none. We'll take it. I
51:26
Speaker 3: will say this. My wife and I took a trip
51:27
Speaker 3: down to North Myrtle Beach, and if you're a longtime
51:30
Speaker 3: listener of the show, you know the story. I felt
51:32
Speaker 3: I should turn in my Southern West Virginia card because
51:34
Speaker 3: up until twenty twenty two. I said, I had never
51:37
Speaker 3: been to Myrtle Beach, and this time it was North Myrtle,
51:41
Speaker 3: and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I really really liked it.
51:45
Speaker 3: I don't come from a family of vacationers. We went
51:47
Speaker 3: on a few as a kid. But one story I
51:50
Speaker 3: always teld about my dad, and I may have told
51:52
Speaker 3: this on the story before. My dad didn't even attend
51:55
Speaker 3: my high school graduation. He was a purchasing agent at
51:58
Speaker 3: a coal company and on the day of my high
52:00
Speaker 3: school graduation a that he was going to leave the
52:04
Speaker 3: mines for my graduation, so he skipped it. I looked
52:07
Speaker 3: up in the stands. No. Dad talked to him later,
52:10
Speaker 3: and I see what happened to that, Because I left
52:11
Speaker 3: graduation and went directly to work on the air in radio.
52:14
Speaker 3: He said, sorry, son had a part down to mind.
52:17
Speaker 3: So well, there you go. So I come by it honestly,
52:19
Speaker 3: I guess, not liking to take off very much. But
