Latest / Bleacher Report / Micah Parsons Stunned by Vikings Trading J.J. McCarthy: "I’m So Disappointed"
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm not going to lie. I'm disappointed in the Vikings
- 0:02Speaker 1: for that. Wow. Talk to me about it. I'm so disappointed.
- 0:05Speaker 1: You know, love it for the Giants because obviously they
- 0:07Speaker 1: need a backup quarterback. But this is the guy's, what,
- 0:11Speaker 1: third year in the league? Third year. And he's traded.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Top 15 pick. It's like he was injured his rookie year.
- 0:22Speaker 1: And Sam Darnold started. Sam took off. They decided not, like,
- 0:27Speaker 1: the whole point of not letting Sam Darnold come out
- 0:30Speaker 1: of the building was he was going to be the
- 0:32Speaker 1: franchise guy. Yeah. He was a 10th overall pick. Oh,
- 0:36Speaker 1: 10th overall. Okay. Even worse. Even worse. So, you know,
- 0:41Speaker 1: if you're saying, hey, we're not going to pay Sam Darnold,
- 0:43Speaker 1: who's a Super Bowl champion now, and, you know, like,
- 0:49Speaker 1: what are we doing? As a front office, like, how
- 0:52Speaker 1: are we going to keep allowing this? And this is
- 0:54Speaker 1: just across the league. Do you think we've given up
- 0:56Speaker 1: on quarterbacks too early? Way too early. Way too early.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I've seen, like, I would say from this generation, right,
- 1:04Speaker 1: we've seen guys develop later than earlier. And, like, we
- 1:10Speaker 1: see the special guys develop earlier, but not everyone develops
- 1:15Speaker 1: at the same rate. Like, honestly, like, him getting traded
- 1:19Speaker 1: in his third year is, like, like, and to say, like,
- 1:23Speaker 1: he's the third quarterback behind Wentz was crazy. Like, I
- 1:27Speaker 1: think that's crazy.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Like, When he's a third quarterback, though, that says something.
- 1:30Speaker 2: That's like, we really not rocking with you. You not
- 1:32Speaker 2: our guy.
- 1:33Speaker 1: And that's the disrespectful part. Because, like, if you're injured
- 1:36Speaker 1: your first year, you come in your second year where
- 1:39Speaker 1: your line is banged up. The whole year, we can
- 1:42Speaker 1: say the Vikings offensive line probably played two full games together. Like, maybe,
- 1:47Speaker 1: you know, if you really look at it, like, I
- 1:50Speaker 1: think O'Neal went down. Derrissaw went down. Jackson went down
- 1:55Speaker 1: a couple games. Will Fries went down a couple games.
- 1:59Speaker 1: The center went away. Like, you know, he's fighting for
- 2:01Speaker 1: his life. Like, the reads, the anticipation. I think there
- 2:05Speaker 1: was a video that Purdy came out and said was
- 2:10Speaker 1: majority of the quarterbacks can't see what they're throwing. Yeah,
- 2:13Speaker 1: you can't see over the line. No one does. It
- 2:16Speaker 1: was a dope interview, but he was like, 40% of
- 2:20Speaker 1: the game on my throws are anticipation. So, like, if
- 2:23Speaker 1: you have a young guy Right. And this is and
- 2:26Speaker 1: this is where we say as football players, we need
- 2:30Speaker 1: more guys who've played the sport to be in general
- 2:33Speaker 1: manager positions than guys who just say, hey, we watched
- 2:36Speaker 1: a lot of football. Because if I'm watching J.J. McCarthy,
- 2:40Speaker 1: where has he come from? Michigan. Yeah. But in that
- 2:43Speaker 1: Michigan time frame, what were they doing? Running the ball,
- 2:46Speaker 1: running the ball. They were doing running the ball, running
- 2:49Speaker 1: play action scheme. Great. So you can't draft this quarterback
- 2:53Speaker 1: at 10th overall and say, hey, we need you to
- 2:55Speaker 1: drop back 30 times a game and live in shotgun.
- 2:57Speaker 1: That's not his world. Now, he's going to Harbaugh's world
- 3:01Speaker 1: because what they do? They're going to run the ball.
- 3:03Speaker 1: They're going to run the ball. Play action scheme. We're
- 3:05Speaker 1: not going to ask you to drop back 30 times
- 3:07Speaker 1: a game. So it's like, what are we watching and
- 3:10Speaker 1: what is our outlook on this team when we draft
- 3:12Speaker 1: these players? I would say even Isaiah Simmons a couple
- 3:16Speaker 1: years ago, he was a guy who played safety and linebacker,
- 3:20Speaker 1: a little bit of everything, he goes to the Cardinals
- 3:22Speaker 1: and they have no plan for him. And you say, hey,
- 3:24Speaker 1: we want you to play outside. He never rushed before. Like,
- 3:28Speaker 1: it's like we drafted. And then, like, so many people
- 3:32Speaker 1: get mad at the players. And it's like, oh, he
- 3:34Speaker 1: didn't do this. He didn't do that. It's like, bro,
- 3:38Speaker 1: what are you drafting him to? What's my plan? I
- 3:41Speaker 1: was lucky. Dan Quinn, he said, we're going to drop
- 3:44Speaker 1: you in situations and we're also going to rush you.
- 3:48Speaker 1: We're going to put you in a position to win.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Are you okay with that? I say, yes. Give me
- 3:51Speaker 1: those challenges. We don't have enough of those coaches anymore.
- 3:55Speaker 2: 100%. And now he's with Harbaugh, the brother of his
- 3:58Speaker 2: coach in college. Do you think he's going to go
- 4:01Speaker 2: to the Giants with the opportunity to be their future,
- 4:05Speaker 2: or is it going to be Dart's job and he's
- 4:06Speaker 2: just going to be a long-term backup?
- 4:09Speaker 1: I'm not going to lie. He could be in a
- 4:10Speaker 1: situation where we might not see JJ McCarthy for, you know,
- 4:14Speaker 1: four or five years and he might get a starting
- 4:16Speaker 1: role for injury and take off and flourish.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Yeah. They say that, they say that James is going
- 4:20Speaker 2: to be the starter as a season. Like he's going
- 4:23Speaker 2: to remain the starter until something changes.
- 4:25Speaker 1: You know, you know, this could be a blessing in
- 4:27Speaker 1: disguise for him because as we've seen, you know, half
- 4:31Speaker 1: these quarterbacks are all coming off of guys in front
- 4:34Speaker 1: of them get injured. You know, unfortunately for dart, um, Obviously,
- 4:39Speaker 1: prayers up for Jackson Dart. He looked like he was
- 4:42Speaker 1: having a phenomenal pace, phenomenal year, and go down to
- 4:45Speaker 1: knee injury. Sorry, Giants fans. Sorry to Dart. I pray
- 4:49Speaker 1: and wish that never happens to no quarterback. But, you know,
- 4:53Speaker 1: through the history of the league, that's been our biggest
- 4:55Speaker 1: opportunity to see what guys can do. And I think
- 4:58Speaker 1: allowing Jameis to be in that locker room, because, for one, we're,
- 5:04Speaker 1: I believe– Their biggest mistake was they didn't have a
- 5:08Speaker 1: veteran for McCarthy to learn from. Now, I'm not saying
- 5:11Speaker 1: Jameis is perfect, but Jameis, he's a winner, national champion,
- 5:16Speaker 1: first pick in the draft, and he's had a really
- 5:20Speaker 1: good NFL career. Is he a Hall of Famer? No.
- 5:23Speaker 1: We're not saying he's a Hall of Famer, one of
- 5:24Speaker 1: the greatest all the time. But is he a great
- 5:26Speaker 1: locker room, great teacher, and a great person and player? Yes.
- 5:31Speaker 1: He checks every single one of those boxes. See, he
- 5:33Speaker 1: busts in disguise. And to say, like, No offense, but
- 5:38Speaker 1: I think what people say, that was the reason why
- 5:41Speaker 1: they kicked Kyler out of Arizona. So he probably really
- 5:45Speaker 1: wasn't learning there. And Carson Wentz, I don't know. We
- 5:48Speaker 1: don't know. But now he has a great opportunity to
- 5:50Speaker 1: learn from people in front of him, learn from a
- 5:52Speaker 1: great coach, and be a part of a great organization
- 5:55Speaker 1: where they're actively trying to build something special there. And
- 5:58Speaker 1: the Giants look like they're building something special.
