• 1:53
Speaker 2: for what we're calling the Playback to Logan Elementary Event. Now,
• 1:56
Speaker 2: you'll recall a week ago this past Saturday, there was
• 2:00
Speaker 2: a fire at Logan Elementary School and the school was
• 2:03
Speaker 2: heavily damaged by smoking water. The students are now attending
• 2:07
Speaker 2: Logan Middle School, which is what we Loganites call on
• 2:09
Speaker 2: the island. But as you may imagine, there was a
• 2:12
Speaker 2: lot of damage and a lot of the Some of
• 2:15
Speaker 2: it was replaceable items, some things not. I talked to
• 2:17
Speaker 2: one lady who had been a teacher there, and she said,
• 2:20
Speaker 2: you can't replace some of the items that her students
• 2:23
Speaker 2: had given her, the mementos and things of that nature.
• 2:25
Speaker 2: But Rob and kwsh are going to try to replace
• 2:27
Speaker 2: some things, collecting things like puzzles, indoor gym equipment, et cetera,
• 2:32
Speaker 2: et cetera. Robill explained it to you. He's on site
• 2:34
Speaker 2: at Logan Bank of Trust at the Fountain Place, Small
• 2:36
Speaker 2: Logan started about eighth this morning. He'll be there till noon.
• 2:39
Speaker 2: Jason Quintreil and the folks at Union Mission are there too.
• 2:43
Speaker 2: Someone would like to make cash donations because the school
• 2:45
Speaker 2: cannot accept cash. Jason, folks at Union Mission can again.
• 2:49
Speaker 2: We'll check in with Robin about that coming up a

• 3:02
Speaker 2: to welcome into the show now Dennis Brown. He is
• 3:04
Speaker 2: a candidate for Kna County Board of Education and he
• 3:07
Speaker 2: joins us now, good morning to welcome to the show.
• 3:10
Speaker 4: Good morning to you, Dave Haydo.
• 3:11
Speaker 2: I'm fine, Thank you for being so give us your bio.
• 3:14
Speaker 2: Tell us all about you.
• 3:15
Speaker 4: Well, I'm not exactly from around.
• 3:17
Speaker 2: These here parks. I was going to say, my first
• 3:19
Speaker 2: time is going to be you ain't from here, not exactly.
• 3:24
Speaker 4: England was my place love starting, and I didn't come
• 3:27
Speaker 4: over to take back independence. I can assure you I've
• 3:30
Speaker 4: been in the States for thirty three years. I'm a
• 3:32
Speaker 4: naturalized citizen. I've had four sons, the three step sons
• 3:38
Speaker 4: and one son that have gone through the entire learning
• 3:43
Speaker 4: gambit of the US system. Most of that time I
• 3:47
Speaker 4: spent in Illinois. We moved down here four years ago.
• 3:51
Speaker 4: My natural son has been at South Charon High for
• 3:56
Speaker 4: the past four years. He leaves off to probably going
• 4:00
Speaker 4: to Boston to Berkeley College to play his bass. That's
• 4:04
Speaker 4: what he wants to do. But we've had an interesting
• 4:07
Speaker 4: time going into the system in West Virginia. In Illinois,
• 4:13
Speaker 4: we did actually homeschool him for two and a half years.
• 4:18
Speaker 4: He was in the system and the system kept letting
• 4:20
Speaker 4: him down, and we thought there was a better way
• 4:24
Speaker 4: of doing this, and when COVID came up, it was
• 4:27
Speaker 4: an ideal time to take him out and actually teach
• 4:29
Speaker 4: him ourselves. And we found that we were actually doing
• 4:33
Speaker 4: two years or two semesters of schooling in less than
• 4:38
Speaker 4: a year, and it was amazing. He was actually two
• 4:42
Speaker 4: years ahead of where he should be when he came
• 4:44
Speaker 4: down here. That's actually a problem in some ways, to
• 4:47
Speaker 4: be quite honest, and I'll talk about those as we
• 4:49
Speaker 4: go on, because it basically less to boredom. He's not
• 4:53
Speaker 4: where he needs to be, and I think that the system.
• 4:56
Speaker 4: One of the biggest problems the system has at the
• 4:57
Speaker 4: moment is student boredom. But anyway, as far as I'm concerned,
• 5:03
Speaker 4: I now live here in Knar City with my wife Dawn,
• 5:06
Speaker 4: and we've got two dogs, a cat, and some chickens
• 5:10
Speaker 4: up on the hills up there.
• 5:11
  Speaker 2: It's really good.
• 5:13
Speaker 4: I built my career in educational software, became a known
• 5:17
Speaker 4: as a leader in online and e learning across the Usa,
• 5:20
Speaker 4: actually the Middle East, Europe and Africa, spoken at global
• 5:23
Speaker 4: conferences and all sorts of things like that around the world. Actually,
• 5:26
Speaker 4: I've owned my own school of performing arts and theater,
• 5:30
Speaker 4: taught theater for many years, and I have a paper
• 5:33
Speaker 4: that was published in two thousand and nine on the
• 5:35
Speaker 4: true value of learning. I've done a lot of things
• 5:38
Speaker 4: in training. In fact, my last thirty years in industry
• 5:41
Speaker 4: has been associated with learning and basically online learning. But
• 5:46
Speaker 4: to do that you have to go through the standard
• 5:49
Speaker 4: learning to get there. You can't teach a person to
• 5:51
Speaker 4: ride a bike on a television screen. It doesn't work.
• 5:56
Speaker 4: So that's my basic, my past and where I am
• 5:58
Speaker 4: and why I'm here again with.
• 6:01
Speaker 2: Dennis Brown, who is running for a Cana County Board
• 6:03
Speaker 2: of Education. Dennis, It's it's no secret that some of
• 6:06
Speaker 2: the cuts have been made in personnel to some Knaha
• 6:08
Speaker 2: County School employees or as a meeting yesterday. We have
• 6:10
Speaker 2: it on the website and information about it. Oh, the
• 6:13
Speaker 2: last couple of years, consolidations have been a thing here
• 6:16
Speaker 2: in Kanahak County. Tough decisions every time, whether it's comes
• 6:19
Speaker 2: to the staff or of the school. How would you
• 6:21
Speaker 2: handle all that if you were on the board of education.
• 6:25
Speaker 4: This goes you have to go back to what the
• 6:27
Speaker 4: problems are to solve those problems. The first thing is,
• 6:30
Speaker 4: I am totally against closing schools. It does not do
• 6:33
Speaker 4: any good to anybody. When you take a school out
• 6:36
Speaker 4: of a community, you take the community away from the school.
• 6:39
Speaker 4: And if you put that school, those people from that
• 6:40
Speaker 4: school in another school, there is friction between those two groups.
• 6:44
Speaker 4: It always happens. Oh you're not from around these parts,
• 6:47
  Speaker 4: is what happens.
• 6:49
Speaker 2: So how do you do that?
• 6:51
Speaker 4: Well, first of all, tried looking at ways of actually
• 6:54
Speaker 4: repurposing the school that's in that area. It may be
• 6:56
Speaker 4: taking off half of the school and using other things.
• 7:00
Speaker 4: Put a museum there, put the art gallery there, put
• 7:04
Speaker 4: something else there. Maybe even put an adult training center there,
• 7:09
Speaker 4: an adult training center for parenting. Wouldn't that be a
• 7:11
Speaker 4: good idea, because I think that's one of the things
• 7:13
Speaker 4: that's missing in West Virginia. West Virginia has major problems
• 7:17
Speaker 4: in lack of parents. To be quite honest, there are
• 7:20
Speaker 4: I think it must be eighty percent of my son's
• 7:23
Speaker 4: colleagues friends have only one family, one parent families, and
• 7:28
Speaker 4: a lot of those are just grandparents. Or even great
• 7:30
Speaker 4: grandparents we found the other day who are looking after
• 7:33
Speaker 4: the children. That's a major issue and we have to
• 7:36
Speaker 4: try and help those people to understand what learning is about.
• 7:39
Speaker 4: Understand the other thing that The next thing is drugs. Drugs,
• 7:44
Speaker 4: as we know, are the worst in the US here
• 7:48
Speaker 4: in West Virginia, and we need to have more detection
• 7:52
Speaker 4: and enforcement of drugs and stopping them coming into schools.
• 7:58
Speaker 4: Even though a school may say we have a one
• 8:01
Speaker 4: hundred percent against drugs, when somebody says I've been seeing
• 8:05
Speaker 4: someone smoking something in the bathrooms, not much happens about it.
• 8:10
Speaker 4: We need to have some even sniffer dogs going into
• 8:12
Speaker 4: the place, bringing in dare the drug advisory actually getting
• 8:20
Speaker 4: the police to do it's the police that do that,
• 8:22
Speaker 4: which is very good. So we need to speak to
• 8:23
Speaker 4: the police. There's a lot of things that we can
• 8:25
Speaker 4: do that's not being done. If the thing that I
• 8:30
Speaker 4: really don't understand is we say we've got a proficiency
• 8:34
Speaker 4: in math of twenty five percent, heare that is terrible,
• 8:38
Speaker 4: absolutely horrendous. Forty five percent for English we got thirty
• 8:42
Speaker 4: five percent. It's just ludicrous. Math at thirty five percent.
• 8:47
Speaker 4: We are trying to build our kids up to go
• 8:49
Speaker 4: into the big wide world. They need to have proficiency
• 8:52
Speaker 4: in all those things. I'm for the three hours, absolutely
• 8:56
Speaker 4: one percent for the three hours reading, writing, brithmetic. Get
• 9:00
Speaker 4: them to understand that. Teach them differently. Don't teach them knowledge.
• 9:06
Speaker 4: They don't need knowledge. What they need to know is
• 9:08
Speaker 4: how to get that knowledge. Especially in this day of
• 9:11
Speaker 4: computers and so on, they can get knowledge anywhere. And actually,
• 9:15
Speaker 4: my son, I have to say, he knows more about
• 9:17
Speaker 4: many things than I do. Many people do, but he
• 9:20
Speaker 4: is seventeen years old, and I'm not so that the
• 9:23
Speaker 4: point is that we have to teach people. Teach the
• 9:26
Speaker 4: kids to learn, not teach them the knowledge. Okay, So
• 9:31
Speaker 4: all those things add up to how we stop people
• 9:34
Speaker 4: leaving the system, people leaving the state, because if we
• 9:39
Speaker 4: get the right knowledge in our people, there'll be the
• 9:40
Speaker 4: right people to take the positions that are available in
• 9:43
Speaker 4: the state and actually attract people to the state, attract
• 9:46
Speaker 4: people for our schools. People do go to places for
• 9:50
Speaker 4: the school, make the school the best, and you have
• 9:52
Speaker 4: people coming in. Once you've got people coming in, you've
• 9:55
Speaker 4: now got other things like entrepreneurialship that takes over and
• 9:58
Speaker 4: other jobs that start up so many other are the
• 10:02
Speaker 4: things that we need to do. I think our job
• 10:04
Speaker 4: as the county board is to get our learning to
• 10:07
Speaker 4: a point where it's seventy five percent, like they do it.
• 10:10
Speaker 4: A couple of the schools in the state actually have
• 10:13
Speaker 4: or in the state have absolutely excellent rates seventy five percent.
• 10:17
Speaker 4: Why can't they all be at that? That's Wondercky.
• 10:21
Speaker 2: You know, we're talking to this brown who's running for
• 10:22
Speaker 2: Canan County Board of Education, and you kind of reference
• 10:25
Speaker 2: this because of the decision you said you at homeschooled
• 10:27
Speaker 2: a child. You know, more and more parents than are
• 10:30
Speaker 2: choosing options other than quote unquote traditional public schools, you know,
• 10:34
Speaker 2: be at private schools, be it charter schools, as you mentioned, homeschooling.
• 10:39
Speaker 2: How can the board address that because regardless of how
• 10:41
Speaker 2: you feel, it is a big problem. Well, it's it's
• 10:44
Speaker 2: an obstacle to certain things, I'll put it that way,
• 10:46
Speaker 2: because you have less and less students, which is why
• 10:49
Speaker 2: you see schools closing.
• 10:50
Speaker 4: How do you address the hundred percent one hundred percent agree?
• 10:53
Speaker 4: Why are they choosing other schools? It's not because they exist.
• 10:57
Speaker 4: They're not choosing other schools because they're rich people and
• 11:00
Speaker 4: it's not that that's not a reason for them going.
• 11:02
Speaker 4: They're choosing other schools because other schools teach them better.
• 11:06
Speaker 4: That is the only reason they go to other schools.
• 11:08
Speaker 4: There's no other reason. None. The only reason we homeschooled
• 11:12
Speaker 4: our son we did not want to be taught online
• 11:17
Speaker 4: with the bad online tools that they were using. And
• 11:21
Speaker 4: I happen to know a bit about that. So the
• 11:23
Speaker 4: fact is we need to get the education up. Forget
• 11:28
Speaker 4: about all of the other things of money and so on.
• 11:30
Speaker 4: Get the education up and you will have people stay.
• 11:33
Speaker 4: In fact, you'll have people do more. You have more
• 11:36
Speaker 4: people volunteer. My wife, I've volunteered down at South Charlton.
• 11:40
Speaker 4: My wife volunteered her in Illinois. The only volunteer if
• 11:45
Speaker 4: you think that there's a reason for doing it, and
• 11:48
Speaker 4: the reason for doing it is to add to the
• 11:50
Speaker 4: education of your children. So I'm totally very concerned about
• 11:55
Speaker 4: the numbers and how we banner headline banner the eye
• 12:00
Speaker 4: idea of forty five proficiency in English? Great, where's the
• 12:03
Speaker 4: seventy five percent? And that's the thing we've got to do. Now,
• 12:07
Speaker 4: that's an education thing. You've got to see what that means.
• 12:10
Speaker 4: I'm against teaching toward the standardized test. That's not how
• 12:16
Speaker 4: you teach people at all. That's how you teach people
• 12:19
Speaker 4: how to take a test. Who cares about that? What
• 12:23
Speaker 4: does it do for the kid? What does the child say?
• 12:26
Speaker 4: Why am I here? What's the purpose of me learning?
• 12:30
Speaker 4: I'm going to be going out and buying vegetables? How
• 12:32
Speaker 4: does the standardized test help me do that? I've got
• 12:35
Speaker 4: to change a tire on the car? How do I
• 12:37
Speaker 4: do that? How does this math help me in my
• 12:41
  Speaker 4: everyday life?
• 12:43
Speaker 2: I could go to.
• 12:45
Speaker 4: College and what they teach and actually say, how much
• 12:48
Speaker 4: of your college have you used? After college? You might
• 12:52
Speaker 4: be better? I don't know you did communications or something
• 12:54
Speaker 4: else you're using. It's great, I did computer science, math
• 12:57
Speaker 4: and physics. If you used it, But could I say
• 13:02
Speaker 4: I remember any of it?
• 13:03
  Speaker 5: No?
• 13:04
Speaker 4: Can I say that it did me any good? No,
• 13:07
Speaker 4: didn't do me any good at all. In fact, I
• 13:08
Speaker 4: went into online training courses. Where did that come in? Well,
• 13:15
Speaker 4: the computer science, I suppose helped, the math sort of
• 13:19
Speaker 4: might have helped, and so on. How do we actually
• 13:21
Speaker 4: move forward as a job. Bring back such things as mechanics,
• 13:27
Speaker 4: mode mechanics, bring back home economics, bring back how do
• 13:31
Speaker 4: I balance my checkbook? That sort of stuff. Teach people
• 13:34
Speaker 4: what they're going to need when they get out in
• 13:35
Speaker 4: the big pie world.
• 13:37
Speaker 2: How's the campaign gone so far?
• 13:38
Speaker 4: It's actually going really well. I'm actually amazed at the
• 13:42
Speaker 4: number of people are coming forward and saying you're the
• 13:44
Speaker 4: person for us. And it's only because I'm talking about
• 13:47
Speaker 4: the sense of matter of training and learning and not
• 13:50
Speaker 4: talking about how we do better in the board. I
• 13:53
Speaker 4: don't care about how well the board does. I do
• 13:55
Speaker 4: care about how well the board does for the learning,
• 13:59
Speaker 4: and that's a thing. So don't bang the drama about
• 14:02
Speaker 4: how wonderful things are when you're at such a low
• 14:04
Speaker 4: proficiency rate in the most important things that people who
• 14:07
Speaker 4: need to know the I've got a few number this week.
• 14:13
Speaker 4: I've got four different talking sessions and different companies and
• 14:17
Speaker 4: different areas. I'm really pleased to be on your show. Actually,
• 14:22
Speaker 4: this is a wonderful place to be, I have to say.
• 14:25
  Speaker 6: So.
• 14:27
Speaker 4: The biggest problem is finance, to be quite honest, If
• 14:29
Speaker 4: anything else, I mean that's so, if you've got any
• 14:31
Speaker 4: dollars hanging, okay, just thick them out.
• 14:33
Speaker 2: This is a radio station. We get in it for
• 14:36
Speaker 2: the fun of the T shirt. That's that's why we
• 14:39
  Speaker 2: do it.
• 14:39
  Speaker 4: I haven't seen the T shirt yet.
• 14:40
Speaker 2: So anyway, well, I've been here six years. I'm waiting
• 14:43
Speaker 2: long one. How's that now? I'm kidding. We have one.
• 14:44
Speaker 2: We just circulated around. You have a you have a
• 14:47
Speaker 2: website or social media.
• 14:48
Speaker 4: Which everything associated with me comes under D Brown for
• 14:53
Speaker 4: the number four kb oe. Okay, so my website is
• 14:58
Speaker 4: at www dot k D Brown four kboe dot com.
• 15:05
Speaker 4: It's like, you know, that's that's all you need to
• 15:07
Speaker 4: write in. Anything else that's Instagram and Facebook, they all
• 15:11
Speaker 4: come under at d Brown four kboe.
• 15:15
Speaker 2: Final thirty Dennis, Why should someone vote for you for
• 15:17
Speaker 2: knarky Aunty Board of Education?
• 15:19
Speaker 4: Because I'm for you. I'm not for anybody else. I'm
• 15:23
Speaker 4: for the parents and the children. I want to make
• 15:31
Speaker 4: this the best place to go for learning. The West
• 15:35

• 20:18
Speaker 2: are one of our sister stations here in the building
• 20:20
Speaker 2: is live on location at Logan Bank and Trust found
• 20:23
Speaker 2: to play Small and Logan because, as you know, Logan
• 20:26
Speaker 2: Elementary School who told you the story. Logan Elementary School,
• 20:31
Speaker 2: which if you're familiar at all with Logan is on
• 20:33
Speaker 2: Middleburg Island what we just called the island. Logan High School,
• 20:36
Speaker 2: Logan Middle School, and Logan Elementary School all there. A
• 20:38
Speaker 2: week ago, this past Saturday, there was a fire at
• 20:42
Speaker 2: Logan Elementary School. Luckily no staff was there. It happened
• 20:44
Speaker 2: on a Saturday morning, but there was a lot of damage,
• 20:47
Speaker 2: a lot of water, a lot of smoke, things of
• 20:48
Speaker 2: that nature. So you can imagine what that's like to
• 20:52
Speaker 2: try to clean up, and they lost a lot of stuff.
• 20:54
Speaker 2: That school itself has been there since I'm going to
• 20:58
Speaker 2: guess some time of the nineteen fifties. Talk to one teacher,
• 21:01
Speaker 2: as I mentioned at the top of the show, that
• 21:02
Speaker 2: had been a teacher there for thirty years, and imagine
• 21:06
Speaker 2: imagine what you collect in your office if you've worked
• 21:09
Speaker 2: somewhere more than ten years. Okay, now, imagine being a
• 21:13
Speaker 2: teacher when at the end of the year, every student
• 21:15
Speaker 2: wants to give you something. Well, all that was lost,
• 21:18
Speaker 2: that stuff can't be replaced, but what can be replaced
• 21:21
Speaker 2: are things like books and puzzles and things of that nature.
• 21:25
Speaker 2: They got a lot of damage from what I understand,
• 21:27
Speaker 2: to indoor recreational equipment, think about jump ropes and kickballs
• 21:32
Speaker 2: and things like that. So Rob's down there at Logan
• 21:35
Speaker 2: Bank of Trust, which if you're getting on one nineteen
• 21:39
Speaker 2: corrid or g and you're heading down south, you can't
• 21:41
Speaker 2: miss it. Before you get well before you get into
• 21:43
Speaker 2: the quote unquote city of Logan. It's on the left
• 21:46
Speaker 2: hand side of the road if you're heading southbound, you'll
• 21:48
Speaker 2: see the big lbn T side. It's in the mall
• 21:50
Speaker 2: where Walmart, bob Evans and all the other places are there.
• 21:54
Speaker 2: Rob started at eight o'clock this morning down there collecting
• 21:57
Speaker 2: these items for the students and staff at Logan Elementary School. Now,
• 22:03
Speaker 2: as I mentioned earlier, the school itself is not allowed
• 22:07
Speaker 2: to accept cash donations, okay, but Union Mission can. And
• 22:12
Speaker 2: you know Jason Quintrell and the folks from Union Mission,
• 22:14
Speaker 2: we've had them on from time to time with different
• 22:16
Speaker 2: events that they've done. Rob made a simple phone call Adjason,
• 22:19
Speaker 2: and I think Jason's comment was when do we leave
• 22:23
Speaker 2: and so they started at eight o'clock this morning at
• 22:27
Speaker 2: the Logan Bank of Trust location at Fountain Play, Small
• 22:29
Speaker 2: in Logan, collecting these items. And the great thing about
• 22:33
Speaker 2: being able to accept cash. We don't touch the cash. Okay,
• 22:37
Speaker 2: folks with the school system, don't touch the cash. Jason
• 22:40
Speaker 2: Quintrell gets the cash, he's got the buying power. He
• 22:43
Speaker 2: can go over and there there's a Walmart there, there's
• 22:45
Speaker 2: a dollar Tree there, there's all these different stores that
• 22:48
Speaker 2: are there. They can go directly over there and buy
• 22:50
Speaker 2: some of this stuff, or if folks are down in
• 22:53
Speaker 2: that area none, We have a lot of listeners down
• 22:55
Speaker 2: in that area. If you want to go to those
• 22:56
Speaker 2: places and buy those things, you certainly can and just
• 23:01
Speaker 2: drop them off. And if you can't make it down there,
• 23:03
Speaker 2: you can drop off items here at our studio eleven
• 23:06
Speaker 2: eleven Virginia Street East and Charleston and will make sure
• 23:08
Speaker 2: that they get And we had several folks that drop
• 23:10
Speaker 2: by some items yesterday. We appreciated. And again, you know,
• 23:14
Speaker 2: primarily what we are looking for are are things like
• 23:19
Speaker 2: as I said, puzzles, jump ropes, books, you know, just
• 23:25
Speaker 2: just easily easy things and things you don't have to
• 23:28
Speaker 2: spend a whole lot of money on. So Rob's down there,
• 23:31
Speaker 2: we're going to attempt to check in with Rob. He's
• 23:33
Speaker 2: actually on the air a Superstar Country ninety six one
• 23:37
Speaker 2: kws right now, so we're going to kind of get
• 23:39
Speaker 2: him in between breaks from there. Big shout out though
• 23:42
Speaker 2: to the folks at Logan Bank and Trust for making
• 23:44
Speaker 2: this possible, because when one of our staff members came
• 23:48
Speaker 2: up with this idea, we just simply put a phone
• 23:50
Speaker 2: call into my old buddy Gary Wilson of Logan Bank
• 23:54
Speaker 2: and Trust and he said, look, we're in. And so
• 23:57
Speaker 2: a big shout out to them in Union mission as well.
• 23:59
Speaker 2: I understand we have Rob Reel on the line right now,
• 24:02
Speaker 2: Sir Roberts, how are things going in La?
• 24:05
Speaker 11: Thanks are going very well. I was actually talking with Gary,
• 24:08
Speaker 11: which is what happens not paying attention to where the
• 24:11
Speaker 11: clock is. So we're here until noon Logan Bank and
• 24:15
Speaker 11: Trust Corridor G and we are gathering up these items
• 24:19
Speaker 11: for play. We've had some sidewalk chalk, we've had some
• 24:23
Speaker 11: sports ball, some building blocks. We're going until noon today.
• 24:26
Speaker 11: List is on the ninety six to one KAUS Facebook page.
• 24:29
Speaker 11: I know Dave has shared it lots of folks have
• 24:32
Speaker 11: been sharing it, and Union Mission is here and this
• 24:35
Speaker 11: is something I want to I want to outline. Because
• 24:38
Speaker 11: the school can't take direct financial contributions, Jason and Brian
• 24:44
Speaker 11: Union Mission, we're quick to step up and say, hey,
• 24:46
Speaker 11: we we have a process. We have a safe, secure,
• 24:50
Speaker 11: accountable donation process that if folks want to give a
• 24:54
Speaker 11: cash or check donation, we can make that part of
• 24:56
Speaker 11: our emergency fund and then we will buy things on
• 24:59
Speaker 11: the list out of that emergency fund. So your contribution
• 25:03
Speaker 11: is still going exactly where you want it to go.
• 25:06
Speaker 11: And because you know they have all of the accounting procedures,
• 25:09
Speaker 11: you can see you can be certain that that's going
• 25:12
  Speaker 11: to happen.
• 25:13
Speaker 2: And again I want to say a big thank you,
• 25:15
Speaker 2: know telling the listeners rob to our friends at Union Mission,
• 25:18
Speaker 2: because all we have to do is put a call
• 25:20
Speaker 2: or text into Jason Quintrell and he's like we ride
• 25:23
Speaker 2: at dawn or something like that. He's ready to go.
• 25:27
Speaker 11: It was phenomenal when I called him about as if
• 25:32
Speaker 11: he knew what I was calling about, because he started
• 25:35
Speaker 11: the conversation with just tell me when and where, and
• 25:38
Speaker 11: I hadn't even pitched the idea of what we were.
• 25:41
  Speaker 9: Going to do.
• 25:42
Speaker 11: That's how important this relationship is for us. They are
• 25:45
Speaker 11: as committed as we are to helping our friends and neighbors.
• 25:49
Speaker 11: They are just as proud to live here too.
• 25:51
Speaker 2: Indeed, again we're talking with Rob Real from our sister
• 25:53
Speaker 2: station ninety six one Superstar Country KWS. He's on on
• 25:57
Speaker 2: the lot right now of Logan Bank and Trust the
• 25:59
Speaker 2: Fountain Place all locations. I want to make sure people
• 26:01
Speaker 2: realize it's the Fountain Place, small location, because they've got
• 26:03
Speaker 2: you know, four or five different branches down there. But
• 26:06
Speaker 2: this is this is the one that is on one nineteen.
• 26:09
Speaker 2: It's a straight shot from Charleston. If you happen to
• 26:11
Speaker 2: be going down that way, looking at forty five minutes,
• 26:13
Speaker 2: maybe even forty five minutes to an hour, if you're
• 26:15
Speaker 2: Rob Real, twenty minutes, you know to get there in
• 26:19
Speaker 2: truck Norris the KWS truck, and they're on site. You have,
• 26:24
Speaker 2: as I said, you've got Walmart, you've got Dollar Tree,
• 26:26
Speaker 2: you've got Bills, you've got all these different there's twenty
• 26:29
Speaker 2: twenty five different businesses there. At found a place small
• 26:32
Speaker 2: and I'm sure you could probably find something just about
• 26:35
Speaker 2: any of them that would help out. And if you
• 26:36
Speaker 2: need helping what to get just stop by talk to Rob,
• 26:39
Speaker 2: Gary or Jason. They'll tell you what it is that
• 26:41
Speaker 2: we are looking for and you can go over and
• 26:44
Speaker 2: get it, or you can just give Jason Quintrail the cash.
• 26:46
Speaker 2: And when we reached out to a couple teachers that
• 26:50
Speaker 2: and I know that the community not just not just
• 26:53
Speaker 2: Logan County, Rob, but surrounding counties. There's schools in Kanaw
• 26:57
Speaker 2: County that have reached out down there to Logan Elementary County,
• 27:00
Speaker 2: other places Boone County and said what can we do
• 27:02
Speaker 2: to help? These teachers and the staff are very very
• 27:04
Speaker 2: appreciative because it's what West Virginians do, Rob.
• 27:08
Speaker 11: West Virginians take care of West Virginians. And there's I
• 27:10
Speaker 11: mean there's a little bit of the butt for the
• 27:12
Speaker 11: grace of God go I sort of situation. This could
• 27:14
Speaker 11: happen in any sort of community, in any school, and
• 27:18
Speaker 11: so we we take care of our friends and neighbors.
• 27:21
Speaker 11: There are so many places that you could pick up
• 27:24
Speaker 11: something here at Fountain Plaza, or if you're just running
• 27:27
Speaker 11: through the bank, we can we can take care of
• 27:30
Speaker 11: you that way as well. Maybe this is a good
• 27:32
Speaker 11: opportunity how dare I suggest you play hooky as our
• 27:35
Speaker 11: friend like Stone is walking up? How dare I suggest
• 27:39
Speaker 11: you play hooky? But there are lots of places you
• 27:41
Speaker 11: could get coffee and breakfast, and while you're doing that,
• 27:44
Speaker 11: you could you could make a donation. Let's get the
• 27:46
Speaker 11: play back to Logan Elementary.
• 27:48
Speaker 2: That's the whole plan in the game. We've got information
• 27:49
Speaker 2: available on the Superstar Country ninety six one KWS Facebook page.
• 27:53
Speaker 2: I've got it on Dave Allen Radio. You can go
• 27:55
Speaker 2: there and check it out to And I want to
• 27:56
Speaker 2: give a big shout out to the folks at Logan
• 27:58
Speaker 2: Bank and Truest. I have known Gary Wilson, the guy
• 28:01
Speaker 2: you're dealing with there, literally since we were kids. It's
• 28:05
Speaker 2: southern West Virginia. My grandparents lived beside his family growing up.
• 28:09
Speaker 2: He so Gary and I have known each other for
• 28:11
Speaker 2: a long long time. And I'll say this about Logan
• 28:14
Speaker 2: Bank of Trust. I opened up my first account at
• 28:15
Speaker 2: Loganbank of Trust when I got my first paycheck when
• 28:18
Speaker 2: I was seventeen years old. I went straight to Eddie Canterbury,
• 28:22
Speaker 2: then president of Logan Bank of Trust, and open up
• 28:25
Speaker 2: my account and I have continued to do business with
• 28:27
Speaker 2: them this day. They are fantastic people, locally owned and
• 28:30
Speaker 2: operated and they just jump right in and help out
• 28:33
Speaker 2: with not just this rob but anything they can. They're
• 28:36
Speaker 2: all about community down there.
• 28:38
Speaker 11: Well, and Gary is the pride of man. And you
• 28:40
Speaker 11: two have known each other so long. You've known each
• 28:42
Speaker 11: too when man was still called boy. That's how long
• 28:45
Speaker 11: you two have known one another. And it's those kinds
• 28:48
Speaker 11: of relationships. I've lived literally all over the world, folks,
• 28:52
Speaker 11: and there is nothing like the way West Virginians take
• 28:54
Speaker 11: care of West Virginians.
• 28:56
Speaker 2: Yep, You're absolutely right. And if look, if people want
• 28:58
Speaker 2: to drop off things here at our studios, if it's
• 28:59
Speaker 2: more convenient eleven eleven Virginia Streets and Charleston, Tracy would
• 29:04
Speaker 2: be glad to accept those. And we'll get him down
• 29:07
Speaker 2: through Jason. We'll get him through Tiffany and through Hillary
• 29:09
Speaker 2: and all the folks that at the school down there.
• 29:11
Speaker 2: All Right, the question I got asking, I know you're
• 29:13
Speaker 2: gonna go back on the air, so I'm gonna let
• 29:14
Speaker 2: I'm gonna let you go is if you heard any
• 29:16
Speaker 2: good Dave Allen stories while you're down there.
• 29:20
Speaker 11: Well, I've heard some interesting day.
• 29:22
Speaker 2: All Right, we'll leave it at that and say hello
• 29:25
Speaker 2: to my buddy the rock, Mike Stone. Okay, absolutely, all right, Rob,
• 29:30
Speaker 2: appreciate it man, we'll talk soon. Thanks a lot, Thank you,
• 29:33
Speaker 2: Rob Real from our sister station ninety six to one KWS.
• 29:36
Speaker 2: And again he's posted up at the Fountain Place, small
• 29:39
Speaker 2: location of Logan Bank and Trust. And basically, if you
• 29:41
Speaker 2: joined us late, what happened was a week Aldgo Saturday,
• 29:44
Speaker 2: there was a fire at Logan Elementary School and a
• 29:48
Speaker 2: lot of things. The building was not a total loss,

  Speaker 2: it's a total loss.
• 29:51
  Speaker 7: For this year.
• 29:52
Speaker 2: Those kids aren't gonna be going back, probably till the fall.
• 29:54
Speaker 2: So they've made room for them at Logan Middle School,
• 29:57
Speaker 2: which is in the same basic location. If you're familiar
• 29:59
Speaker 2: with Logan and at all, it's on Middleburg Island, next
• 30:02
Speaker 2: to the high school. Got the three schools there on
• 30:04
Speaker 2: the island, and they're transferring the kids from the elementary
• 30:07
Speaker 2: school over to the middle school. And they just lost
• 30:11
Speaker 2: so many things there, and again many of them can't
• 30:14
Speaker 2: be replaced. Okay, I completely understand that, but we're doing
• 30:17
Speaker 2: what we can't. Puzzles, jump ropes. We had a request
• 30:21
Speaker 2: from mister potato Heads. All right, mister potato heads. Old
• 30:24
Speaker 2: people like me are still a thing, and they teach
• 30:27
Speaker 2: motor skills and things the other things that I don't have.
• 30:30
Speaker 2: So those sorts of things you can drop those off
• 30:34
Speaker 2: as well, and you can do cash if you want. Now,
• 30:37
Speaker 2: if you can't make it down there and you want
• 30:39
Speaker 2: to do cash, you can go to the website we
• 30:43
Speaker 2: feed people dot org and that's the website of Union
• 30:46
Speaker 2: Mission and you can do your donations there. Again, the
• 30:49
Speaker 2: folks at the elementary school cannot accept cash. That's why
• 30:53
Speaker 2: we call it in our Buddy Jason and Union Mission,
• 30:55
Speaker 2: because they can and they can go get the things
• 30:58
Speaker 2: that the students they're asking. Complete lists available of what

• 31:44
Speaker 2: because they they lost a lot. If you've ever gone
• 31:46
Speaker 2: through a fire, you know the damage that comes with
• 31:50
Speaker 2: smoking water. And the school is going to be fine,
• 31:53
Speaker 2: but it's probably going to be the fall before the
• 31:55
Speaker 2: school reopens again. So the kids are taking care of
• 31:57
Speaker 2: they're getting their edumacation at the other one of the

Speaker 2: I have to do this for coming up with a
• 40:02
Speaker 2: headline of the year so far at wv metronews dot
• 40:05
Speaker 2: com and this whole machine gun discussion headline from Brad
• 40:11
Speaker 2: machine gun legislation rat tat tat its way through the
• 40:15
Speaker 2: West Virginia Senate. Oh, Brad. He also goes on to say, quote,
• 40:20
Speaker 2: it's a proposal that captured public imagination like a blast
• 40:25
Speaker 2: in quotes one of the proponents of that proposed bill,
• 40:28
Speaker 2: which and I'm trying to wrap my head around the
• 40:32
Speaker 2: whole thing all right. Basically, from what I understand, there
• 40:37
Speaker 2: is a law called the Hughes Law, and it has
• 40:40
Speaker 2: to do with the regulation of machine guns in West Virginia.
• 40:43
Speaker 2: You could have machine guns prior that were made. I
• 40:46
Speaker 2: think it was prior to eighteen eighty six, I think,
• 40:48
Speaker 2: but not after. And some folks in the legislature are
• 40:51
Speaker 2: working with some outside groups to try to make it
• 40:54
Speaker 2: so the state police basically would be where the guns
• 41:00
Speaker 2: em and eh, going forward. I actually had a gentleman
• 41:03
Speaker 2: by the name of Alex Shay who's very involved in
• 41:05
Speaker 2: this effort that actually called. We tried to get someone
• 41:08
Speaker 2: on to talk about I know the talk line guys
• 41:10
Speaker 2: did yesterday too, and Alex just happened to be listening
• 41:13
Speaker 2: to Metro News midday during open line West Virginia yesterday
• 41:16
Speaker 2: and just called up to talk about him. So I
• 41:18
Speaker 2: appreciate him listening because he said he was a fan
• 41:20
Speaker 2: of the show, so I appreciate that. So anyway, go
• 41:24

Speaker 2: and look, I've talked to several legislators on the show
• 45:50
Speaker 2: over the years, and they have pointed out to me
• 45:53
Speaker 2: when I go off on one of my little tangents
• 45:55
Speaker 2: about things that we're focusing on under the dumb they said, well,
• 45:57
Speaker 2: you know, we can do more than one thing at once,
• 45:59
Speaker 2: which is absolutely true, and that's a fair argument. But
• 46:03
Speaker 2: now I'm reading about adult cabarets and more stuff with
• 46:09
Speaker 2: dressing rooms, which I'm gonna say, it does seem to
• 46:14
Speaker 2: me that not all, but some some Republicans seem to
• 46:19
Speaker 2: have a strange fascination with locker rooms and dressing rooms.
• 46:24
Speaker 2: Just saying stilling it out there. So I hope that
• 46:30
Speaker 2: for my friends of a legilature, I hope that while you're,
• 46:33
Speaker 2: you know, spending little time at least discussing this. Don't
• 46:35
Speaker 2: know whether I've ever actually come to the floor or not,
• 46:37
Speaker 2: I hope that you can maybe go down to McDowell
• 46:39
Speaker 2: County and tell the people or a Wayne County that
• 46:41
Speaker 2: are dealing with these water issues and just say Hey,
• 46:46
Speaker 2: we're We're working on drag queens for you. We're working
• 46:48
Speaker 2: on We're working on trans We're working on on adult

Speaker 2: old man yelling at Cloud's department. Does it seem to
• 47:12
Speaker 2: you that people are driving more crazy? I was noticing
• 47:16
Speaker 2: that yesterday as I was driving into work early laest day.
• 47:19
Speaker 2: We when even driving home yesterday evening, the number of
• 47:22
Speaker 2: people that pull out in front of people and people
• 47:24
Speaker 2: that run red lights is just incredible to me. I
• 47:28
Speaker 2: just see it seems like it's getting worse.
• 47:30
  Speaker 1: I don't.
• 47:30
  Speaker 2: I don't know. Maybe it's just me. Maybe you've noticed
• 47:32
Speaker 2: it too, I don't, just things things I noticed real quick.
• 47:37
Speaker 2: And then we'll go over to the boys of the
• 47:39
Speaker 2: Capital of the Lastnight City Council and of course Mayor
• 47:44
Speaker 2: Goodwin kind of gave us a preview on the show yesterday.
• 47:47
Speaker 2: They talked about extending the lease with the ballpark and
• 47:51
Speaker 2: for the Charleston Dirty Birds, the Charleston the Charleston Professional
• 47:55
Speaker 2: Baseball Company, which is the parent company of the Dirty
• 47:58
Speaker 2: Birds baseball team. They've basically extended their lease to the
• 48:02
Speaker 2: end of this season because the city and I'm sure
• 48:04
Speaker 2: the Dirty Birds, having interviewed Andy Shay and Joe Garrett
• 48:06
Speaker 2: and others with the Dirty Birds many times, I'm sure
• 48:08
Speaker 2: they want to continue to play ball there, so that
• 48:10
Speaker 2: least got extended. They got to look at doing some
• 48:14
Speaker 2: They got to look at doing some upgrades at the
• 48:15
Speaker 2: I mean, you can remember that ballpark's twenty years old, Okay,
• 48:19
Speaker 2: so they've got to look at doing some upgrades to
• 48:21
Speaker 2: the park. So that was discussed, among other things at
• 48:24
Speaker 2: Charleston City Council last night. We got complete stories posted
• 48:26
Speaker 2: about it WV Metronews dot com. Tex says Donald is
• 48:30

• 50:44

• 50:46
Speaker 2: our southern West Virginia lineage, is that we both hate
• 50:49
Speaker 2: Dave Wilson, So we got that going.
• 50:53
Speaker 7: For the record, I do not hate my broadcast partner
• 50:56
  Speaker 7: Dave Willis.
• 50:56
  Speaker 2: I'm kidding. I don't hate him as much as I
• 50:59

• 51:17
Speaker 2: while you're down there, you gotta make it a point
• 51:20
Speaker 2: to run to Morrison's and get a hot dog. So
• 51:22
Speaker 2: I'm hoping he'll take me up on it. A good
• 51:25
Speaker 2: guy would bring a few bank for you. A good
• 51:27
