- 0:00Chapter 40 from the book of Isaiah.
- 0:03First, let's pray, dear God. Please help us to.
- 0:08Gain knowledge and understanding as.
- 0:10We read through this chapter. We ask for this in Jesus name.
- 0:15It says comfort. Comfort my people.
- 0:18Says your God speak. Tenderly to Jerusalem, and
- 0:22proclaim to her. That her hard service.
- 0:25Has been completed that her sin has been paid for that.
- 0:30She has received. From the Lord's hand double for
- 0:34all her sins. So I want to read what that
- 0:38says. Actually a couple things.
- 0:41So the questions and answers from the study Bible, is there
- 0:45any connection between this chapter and what came before?
- 0:48Yes. Both.
- 0:49Touch on the coming Babylonian captivity, the historical
- 0:53account of chapter 39. Foreshadows it while the poetry.
- 0:57Of chapter 20 offers hopeful words to contrast with the.
- 1:01Despair it would bring what? Service had Jerusalem completed
- 1:08an indentured Hebrew servant. Typically worked six years to
- 1:12pay off his debt. Once the service was completed,
- 1:17the servant. Was set free.
- 1:19Judah had a debt to pay to the Lord.
- 1:22And would work it off by being taken captive to Babylon.
- 1:26Although these words. Sound like the exile was over
- 1:29and passed. Isaiah penned them before the
- 1:32exile. He used the past tense in a
- 1:35prophetic sense. Looking forward to when the.
- 1:39Captivity would be over. In a broader sense, this service
- 1:43could refer to all the time up until the coming of the Messiah.
- 1:48And that led me to first of all look at Exodus 21 verse 2 where
- 1:56it talks about this indentured servant.
- 1:58If you buy a Hebrew. Servant he is to serve you for
- 2:03six years, but in the 7th. Year he shall go free.
- 2:07Without paying anything. So this was some of the the laws
- 2:13that were established it it was from I guess Deuteronomy chapter
- 2:1915, it says. These are the laws you are to
- 2:22set before. Them was the first verse in
- 2:26Exodus 21 and then it talks about.
- 2:28Serving for six years. And then go free.
- 2:33And so it made me. Think about like God, Jesus paid
- 2:37a price for us. And he paid the ransom.
- 2:42With his life. And so there are so many
- 2:45different multiple meanings that you can arrive from what
- 2:50scripture says. So if it talks.
- 2:54About He's to serve you 6 years. And then the 7th.
- 2:57Year he shall go free. It's really interesting if you
- 3:01go back to what the Essenes believed in the Dead Sea Scrolls
- 3:06and the time frame that. They allocated was that Jesus
- 3:11would. Return The Messiah would return
- 3:14around the year 6000 and then the completion of the time was
- 3:207000 years and then after the seven. 1000 years like the 8th
- 3:25day. So a day is.
- 3:27Like 1000 years, that's written a couple times in the Bible by
- 3:30different people. I think Peter's one of them.
- 3:32And then there's another look place in the Bible where it
- 3:34talks about a day being 1000 years.
- 3:37So if you start paying attention to.
- 3:40The I I've. Mentioned this so many times.
- 3:43Before there is a. Literal and a symbolic meaning.
- 3:48To a lot of scripture. And so, and, and it's also, I
- 3:54don't know, it's, it's almost like clues, but God did things
- 4:00in a literal way, but he meant for something symbolic with it
- 4:05like the Passover and what that represents Jesus, Jesus's death
- 4:11on the cross cover being the blood that.
- 4:13Covers us. That protects us.
- 4:14From eternal death, eternal separation from God.
- 4:19So the same thing is. Like this six years being
- 4:25equated to 6. 1000 years and we are there's a lot of different
- 4:31calendars out there and right now it's it's really interesting
- 4:36if you wanted to get into this the.
- 4:38Dead Sea Scrolls. Calendar, so DSS calendar.org I
- 4:44think is where you can find it, but it's it's really interesting
- 4:48because it has an actual calendar that you can plug dates
- 4:53into if you're curious about where we are and.
- 4:57It's I think it's DSS dot. Org I can't remember but DSS
- 5:00calendar just search that and the Dead Sea.
- 5:04Scroll date for today is. The month of of day 27 and the
- 5:11year is 5950, so we are. 50. Years from the year 6000.
- 5:19The Gregorian date is August 13th, 2025 and then the.
- 5:25Pharisee date or the Jewish? Date is August of 195785 so you
- 5:34can see that. There's a couple. 100 years
- 5:37difference between 5785 and 5950.
- 5:42People have changed the calendars and so nobody's really
- 5:48sure I guess. But the ones the Dead Sea
- 5:51Scrolls had this calendar and that's what they were following
- 5:56and apparently the calendar that they kept, all of the dates in
- 6:02the Bible match up with that, apparently from someone who
- 6:06studies this as Ken Johnson, who?
- 6:09Does this deep study of the Dead Sea?
- 6:12Scroll calendar. So it's really it's just.
- 6:15Interesting and something to pay attention to.
- 6:18Like if we talk about are we in the last?
- 6:20Days. Well, if there's 6. 1000 years
- 6:22to complete and we're at year 5950.
- 6:26Yeah, we're pretty close. I mean, there technically would
- 6:30be maybe 50 more years. There's also.
- 6:33Scripture that says if those. Days had not been cut short, no
- 6:36one would survive. So whether or not it means.
- 6:41Those years there. Or if it means just those days
- 6:45when the lawless one starts inflicting punishment or pain on
- 6:52all the people. So.
- 6:54But either way, it's like we are actually the the end times
- 6:59technically started in the days after Jesus's death on the
- 7:03cross. So that was those days were the
- 7:07beginning of it. So they continue on and, and who
- 7:10knows when it's going to actually end or when Jesus will
- 7:14return. But there are signs and there
- 7:16are a lot of signs that are happening now.
- 7:18That are talked about. In the Bible.
- 7:20And so people should be paying attention to that because we
- 7:25don't know, but. We need to be prepared.
- 7:29So anyway. I I.
- 7:32I just find it interesting that. Six years to pay off.
- 7:35His debt so. If that is the case.
- 7:38You know mankind gets. Six years or 6000?
- 7:41Years to reconcile the debt and humanity does and then at that
- 7:47point that's when Jesus returns and then Jesus reigns for 1000
- 7:51years and then after that thousand years is the beginning
- 7:54of eternity. So then I guess.
- 7:57All of the mortal people, the people who.
- 8:00Could die at the end of the thousand years there will be no
- 8:03more like that's gone. It's everybody is put.
- 8:07In their eternal place, and there's no more.
- 8:11Death after that. And this is eternity with God,
- 8:14so it's. Yeah, there's there's.
- 8:18Time ahead of us some but you know when we talk about this,
- 8:22this age when Jesus returns, there's going to be mortal and
- 8:27immortal people on earth at the same time, which is going to be
- 8:32really interesting because some people.
- 8:34Will die, but some people will have their.
- 8:36If you want to call it their heavenly bodies or their, I
- 8:40guess the bodies that God had intended for us when he returns
- 8:43the. People.
- 8:44Who are prepared will be changed and they will receive their
- 8:48immortal bodies, which it's just going to be a really interesting
- 8:52time. There's going to be all this.
- 8:53Peace on earth, too. And there's the.
- 8:55Animals will be here, but they won't be predatorial, and they
- 8:59it's just going. To be a very.
- 9:02Wonderful time, it sounds. Like everything will be
- 9:05regenerated. And it's going to become.
- 9:07Lush like it was. In the beginning, when God.
- 9:09Created. Everything in the Garden of
- 9:11Eden. So I think that's what our land
- 9:13will. Be like as well.
- 9:15And just a. Great period of restoration, but
- 9:17before we get to that. Point there is going to be this
- 9:21terrible part of times, but when Isaiah's talking about this,
- 9:26he's saying that you know, there's I mean it, I guess
- 9:31Jerusalem is going to. Pay double for all her.
- 9:34Sins. The sins are really idolatry,
- 9:36not putting the Lord first, but we can all be guilty of that.
- 9:41Do we always put God? 1st we need to.
- 9:44That's something we need to pay attention to and think about how
- 9:47we're living our life. Are we putting?
- 9:48God first, are we guilty? The same way.
- 9:51And will we have this, you know, time?
- 9:54Period to pay for. Our debt, you know, it's I just
- 9:59found it interesting and and think about like when you turn
- 10:03to Christ, you know, is there this.
- 10:06You know this. Consequence of your sinful life
- 10:09that has to happen before. You are kind of set.
- 10:15Free from that burden. So that's just a question that I
- 10:18have. I don't have the answer to that,
- 10:20but I I'm wondering that in my life just from, you know, what's
- 10:25happened in my life and also dreams I've had and just
- 10:29wondering if God has that kind of a same plan of.
- 10:32Like 6 years and then. A change and everything.
- 10:37So something to pay attention to.
- 10:39I'll find out after the fact in hindsight.
- 10:41So let's go back to scripture. Oh, there's something else I
- 10:45wanted to talk about was the what caught me on the subject
- 10:51was about the indentured servant.
- 10:53For six years. And then I if you search 7.
- 10:56Days there are. I won't read them all.
- 10:59There are 203 times in 91 verses that from the NIV translation
- 11:06that it talks about 7 days and if you.
- 11:09Read through all those things. It talks about, you know,
- 11:13periods of basically waiting. There's a change.
- 11:16There's a seven days. I mean, there's cycles of seven
- 11:19days, there's cycles of seven years.
- 11:22But it's. I don't think it's just poetic.
- 11:26These are literal days. That were set aside for.
- 11:29Certain festivals. Like the days of the.
- 11:32Week or seven days, then there are clusters of seven-year,
- 11:39let's see seven groups of or seven years, 7 * 7 is 49 and
- 11:46then the 50th. Year is a Jubilee year.
- 11:49So that's significant this year, 2025.
- 11:53Is apparently a jubilee year. So that is just something to
- 12:00note as well, but in I don't think I'm explaining myself.
- 12:05Very well. So I apologize for this, but as
- 12:08far as the seven. Days.
- 12:09Like I said, I'm not going to read it.
- 12:10All but it's really good to take a look at it.
- 12:14Just search an electronic Bible. The seven days.
- 12:17There's something else that stood out to me was about the
- 12:21unleavened bread. For seven days.
- 12:24There's a festival of unleavened bread.
- 12:26It's in the springtime and it's supposed to be a reminder of
- 12:30when the people didn't have time to bake their bread when they
- 12:33had to. Leave for the exodus out of
- 12:37Egypt when? And God sent Moses to save them
- 12:40and bring them out of slavery in Egypt.
- 12:43So this is a a literal time. They didn't have time.
- 12:47To let the yeast rise. And.
- 12:50They had to flee to. For their you know.
- 12:54To get out of slavery. And it was an exodus.
- 12:59So again, this is almost like a mirror.
- 13:01Of the. Final days as well.
- 13:06There's like this seven-year period, that is.
- 13:11Understood by people who study eschatology, there's this last
- 13:15like. Final seven years before people
- 13:18are released from the burden of what's going on in the world and
- 13:25the the the thing about. Yeast is that?
- 13:28Yes, it had. A literal meaning like they
- 13:30didn't have time. To let the yeast rise.
- 13:32To make their bread so. They had to eat it without
- 13:35without yeast and it. Says like do not put yeast in it
- 13:38and then continuing on as a memorial to that time they're.
- 13:42Supposed to eat bread without. Yeast, I mean, it goes on, you
- 13:46know. Year after year after year, as
- 13:48far as a. Tradition goes, but yeast is
- 13:51something also that is more symbolic.
- 13:54So if you look at. What Jesus said in Luke chapter
- 14:0013 verse 21 it says oops I'm. Sorry Luke chapter 12 verse.
- 14:08One SO. Jesus.
- 14:12He talked out. He talked in.
- 14:14All the gospels they they. Accounted for him saying to
- 14:20guard against the. Yeast of the Pharisees.
- 14:22And the Sadducees watch out for the.
- 14:25Yeast of the Pharisees. And that of Herod and about how
- 14:29yeast of. It's like.
- 14:32Yeast that a woman took and mixed into about 60 lbs of flour
- 14:36until. It worked through all.
- 14:37The dough so a little. Yeast leavens the whole batch of
- 14:41dough. Get rid of the old.
- 14:43Yeast. A little yeast works.
- 14:46Through the whole batch of. Dough.
- 14:48So these are all things that were mentioned about yeast and
- 14:50dough and how it affects the dough and how you should not
- 14:54have for this time period of the seven years or seven, I guess 7
- 15:00days that you don't have yeast in there.
- 15:04So what? Jesus said.
- 15:06In Luke chapter 12 verse one meanwhile, when a crowd of many
- 15:10thousands had gathered so that they were trampling on one
- 15:13another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, saying,
- 15:18be on your guard against. The yeast of the Pharisees,
- 15:23which is hypocrisy. Well, I thought that was really
- 15:26interesting and something to note.
- 15:29Is that if he. Had this this every year.
- 15:34People are doing this for seven days.
- 15:38They were eating unleavened bread, which reminds them.
- 15:42Of. Exodus But is it also to make us
- 15:47aware or symbolic? Of we need to get the hypocrisy.
- 15:52Out of our Christian walk, you know for this seven days like is
- 15:57should there be a reminder like Christians should probably.
- 16:00Follow this as. Well, and and in preparation for
- 16:05the return of Jesus, I mean we, we need.
- 16:08To is there a? Seven day period where people
- 16:11have to atone you know will when you get into.
- 16:15All the rapture stuff. I don't really know what, I'm so
- 16:19confused. By all of that.
- 16:20Quite honestly, I can't really. I go back and forth from what
- 16:25Scripture says, but at the resurrection, there's definitely
- 16:29a resurrection and I I just don't know.
- 16:33About who if? Some go or all go, I'm not
- 16:37really sure about that, but during this time period.
- 16:42If does it have to do with hypocrisy?
- 16:46Does it have to? Does hypocrisy affect that?
- 16:51It's just something that came to mind as I, as I was reading
- 16:54today and researching this is that, you know, is that yeast in
- 16:58our life? Is that something?
- 17:00Do we have hypocrisy there if we have?
- 17:03Hypocrisy, if we're saying. We're Christians, but we're
- 17:05hypocrites. We're not really doing what God.
- 17:08Says the way to live. You know we're not doing that.
- 17:11Does that mean that? If there is a separate.
- 17:14Rapture from like it does say in the Bible that we those.
- 17:19Who are prepared will not go through.
- 17:21Wrath so but those who have not prepared I'm doing will go
- 17:28through Wrath. So then I think.
- 17:32Well, if you're a hypocrite. If you're not living the way
- 17:36Jesus said and you haven't changed your life, then maybe.
- 17:41Those people go through the wrath, but the people who got
- 17:46rid of the hypocrisy got rid of the.
- 17:49Yeast then they are protected during the time of wrath.
- 17:54So just something to think about and something to be.
- 17:57Cautious of because if we truly. Are in the end times and Jesus
- 18:01is rapidly approaching as many people seem to speculate and I
- 18:06know there are times throughout years and years that people do
- 18:10that, but doesn't necessarily matter when as long as we.
- 18:15Are prepared so if we're. Prepared now, then it doesn't
- 18:20matter when it happens. But if we're not prepared now
- 18:23and it does happen, I mean, that's like the thief in the
- 18:26night. Like he'll return like a thief
- 18:28in the night and then then it's just, you know, the
- 18:33consequences. Of that are pretty severe.
- 18:35So I guess that's why I even say any of.
- 18:38This is that if. People are not prepared if
- 18:40people are being hypocrites right now, calling themselves
- 18:44Christians but yet living like a hypocrite then.
- 18:48You probably should. Try to do something about that
- 18:52sooner rather than later. Because if Jesus.
- 18:55Returns soon like some people think he will.
- 18:59This is just a warning. This is a warning to stop being
- 19:02a hypocrite and to repent and turn to God and and live the
- 19:09way. God had desired for us to live.
- 19:13He gave us all of the details about.
- 19:16What we need to do in life, how we're supposed to live.
- 19:19And it's something that I think we.
- 19:23Should all really get serious. About right now based on what
- 19:29people who are, I don't know, just.
- 19:32All the people if you just. Get on and social media and you
- 19:37can find a lot of these Christian people who really
- 19:40have. A lot of.
- 19:45I don't know everybody. There's a lot of people that
- 19:46think he's coming soon, so it it's a good time to repair is
- 19:51all I can say. So let's go back to.
- 19:53Scripture in verse 3 a voice of one calling in the.
- 19:58Wilderness, prepare the way for the Lord.
- 20:01Make straight in the desert. A highway for our God.
- 20:06So when I read that it, it made me think of John the Baptist
- 20:12because that's what in John chapter one verse 23, it says
- 20:22John replied. The words of Isaiah.
- 20:24The prophet I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness
- 20:29make straight the way for the Lord.
- 20:33So John the Baptist Jesus cousin was the one who said that and he
- 20:39was recalling. The words of Isaiah these.
- 20:44Words that we're reading right now in chapter 40, verse 3.
- 20:47And he was called his purpose, John the Baptist.
- 20:51Was to call people to. Repentance.
- 20:54That's what he did and that's why he said that.
- 20:57You know, I'm not worthy to even carry the sandals of the one
- 21:01whom I'm baptizing because John the Baptist.
- 21:03Baptized. Jesus, and when that happened
- 21:07you. Will see that there the the.
- 21:09Father spoke and said this is my son who I'm well pleased.
- 21:13The Holy Spirit visibly descended.
- 21:16Upon Jesus at that point, and then Jesus was physically there.
- 21:21So you have the Father, Son and Holy Spirit all present at the
- 21:26same time. And this happened at baptism.
- 21:30Now Jesus, you know, he didn't have anything to repent for, but
- 21:35he was showing, you know, he does that give meaning to what
- 21:39Jesus said. I am the.
- 21:40Way the truth. And the life and is the way you
- 21:44know a. Highway for our God like that's
- 21:47the way. There's something else there's
- 21:49you know, The way is mentioned in the Bible as well.
- 21:53And I think his his movement was also called the way at that
- 21:56time. But there's a preparation that
- 21:59has to occur within people and John the Baptist started that.
- 22:04And if you recall in the New Testament, that when.
- 22:13I. I guess when the news was given
- 22:15about Mary being pregnant or Elizabeth, who is John the
- 22:19Baptist mom, I guess Mary Jesus's mother told Elizabeth
- 22:27that she was pregnant and then Elizabeth had John the Baptist.
- 22:31She'd already conceived him, but he apparently like left in her
- 22:36womb or something. Or there was something like the
- 22:38Holy? Spirit was stirred.
- 22:39In her womb or something like there was leaping for joy.
- 22:42So it was just like. You know God's purpose was
- 22:45occurring and. All of this was.
- 22:47Preparation for all of humanity. Like this is the way God.
- 22:51Worked through people and because John the.
- 22:54Baptist was just. A normal person, but he had a
- 22:58purpose, and his purpose was to bring people to repentance and
- 23:03then as, as John the Baptist said, that you know, Jesus
- 23:09would. Bring the Spirit so he would
- 23:13give a. Baptism of fire or baptism of
- 23:16the Spirit. So that's what Jesus would
- 23:19bring, and that's when Jesus left the earth.
- 23:22He's promised his followers that he would send the.
- 23:26Advocate the Holy Spirit. To be with them so there's kind
- 23:29of like a second baptism in the book of John chapter 3 explains
- 23:35that even more about being born again so born of the water.
- 23:39I think it could be a couple things like a natural human
- 23:42being. You know this is the only those
- 23:44are the only ones who can benefit from this is a human
- 23:48birth who you know is born of the water, but also born of the
- 23:52water is also a baptism of repentance.
- 23:55The way I see it. And then Jesus gives the baptism
- 23:59of the Holy Spirit. So there are almost like 2
- 24:02baptisms. It could all be in one and.
- 24:06But it it's 2. Changes in somebody's life,
- 24:09repentance and then receiving the Holy Spirit and the Holy
- 24:13Spirit. Gives people power to live.
- 24:15Out. Their their faith, their belief.
- 24:19And live in action What? Jesus, the way Jesus directed
- 24:23people to live. And the way that the New
- 24:26Testament gospels talk about the way we live as Christians, so to
- 24:31put all of that into action. The Holy Spirit helps us with
- 24:35that. So even John acknowledges that
- 24:39he says I am the voice of the 1:00 calling out in the
- 24:42wilderness makes stray for the Lord.
- 24:43And he said John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet.
- 24:47So he was announcing at that point.
- 24:50So this is definitely about this this time period every.
- 24:54Valley shall be raised up. Every mountain and hill made
- 24:58low, the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places
- 25:02of plain, and the glory of the Lord will be revealed and all.
- 25:06People will see it together. For the mouth of the.
- 25:10Lord has. Spoken so there if you want to.
- 25:14Just I I searched this. Just about all people will see
- 25:20and. Isaiah said this several.
- 25:22Times in Chapter 18, he said. All you people of the world,
- 25:28you. Who live on Earth when a banner
- 25:30is raised on the mountains? You will see it.
- 25:34And when a trumpet sounds. You will hear it.
- 25:39And then it says in chapter 52. Isaiah says the Lord will lay
- 25:46bare his holy. Arm in the sight of all nations
- 25:50and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our
- 25:55God. And then in Isaiah 61, verse 9,
- 26:03their descendants will be known among the nations, and their
- 26:06offspring among the people. All who see them will
- 26:09acknowledge that. They are a people that the Lord
- 26:11has blessed. OK.
- 26:12So that one maybe isn't relevant about all everybody seeing that
- 26:20and let's see gather all people and they will come and see, OK.
- 26:26So Isaiah 66 verse. 18 says and I.
- 26:29Because of what they had. Planned and done.
- 26:32Am about to come and gather. The people of.
- 26:36All nations and languages, and they will come and see my glory.
- 26:43So this is. And then in Ezekiel chapter 39,
- 26:52I will display my glory among the nations, and all nations
- 26:57will see the punishment I inflict in the hand I lay on
- 27:00them and. So there are, there are.
- 27:06Things Jesus said in Matthew 24. Then will appear the Son, the
- 27:12sign of the Son of Man in heaven, and then all.
- 27:16The peoples of the Earth. Will mourn when they see the Son
- 27:21of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great
- 27:26glory. And then in Matthew 20.
- 27:29Six, he says. You have.
- 27:31Said so. Jesus replied.
- 27:33But. I say to all of you.
- 27:35From now on. You will see.
- 27:38The Son of Man, sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One,
- 27:42and coming on the clouds of heaven.
- 27:47And then? Luke chapter 3.
- 27:51Says and all people will. See God's salvation.
- 27:58And Revelation chapter one, verse 7.
- 28:01Look, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see
- 28:07Him, even those who pierced him, and all peoples on earth will
- 28:14mourn because of him. So shall it be.
- 28:18Amen. So this is definitely about
- 28:22Jesus returning on the clouds, continuing on in.
- 28:26The chapter 40 of Isaiah, a voice says.
- 28:29Cry out. And I say.
- 28:31What shall I cry? All people are like grass.
- 28:36All their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.
- 28:39The grass Withers and the flowers fall because.
- 28:42The breath of the Lord. Blows on them.
- 28:44Surely the people are grass. The grass Withers and the
- 28:47flowers fall, but the. Word of our God.
- 28:49Endures forever. You who bring good news to Zion,
- 28:54go up on a high mountain. You who bring good news to
- 28:57Jerusalem, lift up your. Voice with a shout.
- 29:00Lift it up and do not be afraid, say, to the towns of.
- 29:03Judah here is your God. See, the Sovereign Lord comes
- 29:08with power, and he rules with a mighty arm.
- 29:12So that's just what we read about too.
- 29:15I see. His reward is with.
- 29:17Him and his recompense accompanies him.
- 29:21That's something that we don't, I guess.
- 29:23Probably talk about, but there is probably.
- 29:27Well, not probably. I searched reward in the NIV
- 29:30version and it. Occurs 54.
- 29:32Times in 53 verses. So God is he is one of rewards,
- 29:41you know, in Genesis chapter 15. After this the word.
- 29:45Of the Lord came came to Abram in a vision.
- 29:48Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your.
- 29:51Shield your very great reward. So God is a reward.
- 29:59And then let's see, I, I wanted to read some other things
- 30:04because some of these are about different rewards, but I'm going
- 30:07to try and find the ones where in Psalm 62 it says and with
- 30:14you. Lord.
- 30:15Is unfailing love and you? Reward everyone.
- 30:20According to what they have done, and it says children are a
- 30:25heritage in Psalm 127, children are a heritage from the Lord
- 30:30offspring, a reward from him in Proverbs 9 it says.
- 30:38If you are wise. Your wisdom will reward you.
- 30:42If you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.
- 30:52Proverbs 19 says whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord,
- 30:57and he whoever is kind to the poor, lends to the Lord and he
- 31:02will reward them for what they have done.
- 31:06And in Proverbs 25, I think this is about praying for someone,
- 31:10but it's for enemies. I think it says in doing this
- 31:13you will heap burning coals on his head and the.
- 31:16Lord will reward you. So that's kind of interesting
- 31:19for praying for your enemies. I want to read that because that
- 31:22verse has come up before. So it says in the prior verse,
- 31:27if your enemy is hungry, give him food to.
- 31:29Eat if he is thirsty. Give him water to drink in doing
- 31:33this. You will heap.
- 31:34Burning coals on his head and the Lord will reward.
- 31:37You, I always thought. That was a very interesting way
- 31:41of stating it. It's like, well, burning coals
- 31:44on somebody's head is not a great thing and the Lord will
- 31:47reward you. Well, I don't know if this is I
- 31:51mean, it could be both a literal and a symbolic thing, giving
- 31:56people food and water. But.
- 31:58It could also. Be food being God's word and
- 32:02water. Is.
- 32:03The eternal life that Jesus gives, So letting people know
- 32:08about God's Kingdom, about Jesus, and all of that, I think
- 32:13that is where, you know, the burning coals on somebody's head
- 32:17is when of all of a sudden you realize the truth of everything.
- 32:22And that is when people need to make a decision, or that's when
- 32:25people often make a decision. Either to follow the Lord or to
- 32:29reject. Him.
- 32:31When those things are made apparent, then it says I'm
- 32:39trying to find other ones, so some of these things are not in
- 32:43Isaiah 61 it says. For I, the Lord, love justice I
- 32:47hate. Robbery and wrongdoing.
- 32:49In my faithfulness, I will reward my people and make an
- 32:53everlasting covenant with them. And then in Isaiah. 62.
- 32:58The Lord has made proclamation to the ends of the earth, Say to
- 33:02daughter Zion, see your Savior comes.
- 33:06See, his reward is. With him and his recompense
- 33:11accompanies him in Jeremiah 17. It says I.
- 33:16The Lord search the heart and examine the mind to.
- 33:20Reward each. Person according to their
- 33:23conduct according to what their. Deeds deserve.
- 33:30And then Jeremiah 32. Says great are your purposes.
- 33:33And mighty are your deeds. Your eyes are.
- 33:35Open to the ways of all mankind, you reward each person according
- 33:40to their conduct and and as. Their deeds deserve.
- 33:48And then I think Jesus says these things.
- 33:51Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others
- 33:55to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no
- 33:58reward from your Father in heaven.
- 34:02Then in Matthew chapter 6. So when you give to the needy,
- 34:06do not announce it with trumpets as the hypocrites do in the
- 34:10synagogues and on the streets to be honored by others.
- 34:14Truly, I tell you, they have received their reward in.
- 34:17Full and then talks about giving and says.
- 34:20So that your. Giving may be in secret.
- 34:22Then your father, who sees. What is done in secret?
- 34:26Will reward you. And in Matthew chapter 6 and
- 34:30when you pray, do not be like the.
- 34:32Hypocrites, for they love to. Pray standing in the synagogues
- 34:35and on the street corners to be seen.
- 34:38By others, truly, I tell you, they have.
- 34:40Received the reward in full and then it says but when you pray,
- 34:45go into your room. Close the door.
- 34:48And pray to your Father, who is unseen, then your.
- 34:51Father who sees. What is done in secret?
- 34:54Will reward. You, when you fast, do not look
- 34:58somber as the hypocrites do for they.
- 35:01Disfigure their faces to show that they are.
- 35:03Fasting. Truly, I tell you.
- 35:05They have received the reward. In full and then he says so that
- 35:10it will not be obvious to. Others that you are.
- 35:12Fasting, but only to your. Father.
- 35:14Who is unseen and your? Father who sees.
- 35:17What is done in? Secret will reward you.
- 35:23It says and in Matthew 10 it says and if anyone gives even a
- 35:27cup of cold water to one of these little ones, who is my
- 35:30disciple? Truly, I tell you that.
- 35:33Person will certainly not. Lose their reward.
- 35:37And then in Matthew chapter 16, it says, for the Son of Man is
- 35:42going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then
- 35:48he. Will reward.
- 35:50Each person according to what they have done in Mark Chapter 9
- 35:56it says. Truly, I tell you.
- 35:57Anyone who gives a cup of water in my name, this is Jesus
- 36:00talking because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not.
- 36:04Lose their reward. And Luke?
- 36:08Chapter 6 says rejoice. In that day and leap for joy.
- 36:11Because great is your reward. In heaven, for that is how their
- 36:15ancestors. Treated the prophets.
- 36:21And then in First Corinthians 3 it says if what has been built
- 36:25survives. The builder will receive a
- 36:28reward. So you know what we do?
- 36:32With our gifts that God has. Given us.
- 36:36If they if it survives through trials.
- 36:40Then there will be a. Reward for that.
- 36:44And then in Ephesians it says because you know that.
- 36:46The Lord will reward each. One for.
- 36:49Whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.
- 36:54And then in Colossians 3 it says since you know that you will
- 36:57receive an inheritance from the. Lord as a reward.
- 37:02It is the. Lord Christ, you are serving.
- 37:06And then in Revelation chapter 22, it says, look, I am coming
- 37:11soon. My.
- 37:12Reward is with. Me and I will give to each
- 37:15person according to what they have done so there's something
- 37:20to be, you know, for what we do on earth and what we.
- 37:23Do with other people. And what we do for on behalf of
- 37:28God, as servants of God, those things will be.
- 37:31Rewarded it's, it clearly states.
- 37:33That in Scripture. So then, so that was referring
- 37:38back to Isaiah chapter 40 verse 10.
- 37:41See the Lord comes with power, and He rules with mighty arms.
- 37:44See, His reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him.
- 37:48Now, continuing on it, he tends his.
- 37:50Flock like a shepherd. He gathers the lambs in his
- 37:53arms, and he carries them close to his heart.
- 37:56He gently leads those that have young who has measured the
- 38:00waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breath of his
- 38:03hand marked off the heavens. Who has held the dust?
- 38:06Of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the
- 38:09scales, and in the hills in a balance.
- 38:13Who can fathom the Spirit? Of the.
- 38:15Lord, or instruct the Lord as his counsellor.
- 38:19Whom did the Lord consult to enlighten him, and who has
- 38:22taught him the right, right way? Who was it that taught him
- 38:26knowledge or showed him the path of understanding?
- 38:30A lot of these things, these questions, rhetorical questions
- 38:34seem similar to what's in the book of Job when the greatness
- 38:39of God. Is expressed to.
- 38:40Job, I mean God actually, you know, challenges Job like.
- 38:45About do you do this do. You know this and he goes
- 38:48through all of these things. So this this is this.
- 38:51Reminds me of that part continuing on in Isaiah.
- 38:55Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket.
- 38:58They are regarded as dust on the scales.
- 39:00He weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.
- 39:03Lebanon is not sufficient for altar fires, nor its animals
- 39:07enough for burnt offerings. Before Him all the nations are
- 39:11as nothing. They are regarded by Him as
- 39:13worthless and less than nothing. With whom then will you compare
- 39:17God to What image will you like in Him?
- 39:20As for an idol, a metal worker cast it and a gold.
- 39:23Smith overlays it with gold. And fashions silver chains for
- 39:26it. A person too poor to present
- 39:28such an offering selects wood that will not rot.
- 39:33They look for a skilled. Worker to set up an idol that
- 39:36will not topple. Do you not?
- 39:38Do you not know? Have you not heard?
- 39:41Has it been told you from the beginning?
- 39:45Have you not understood since the earth was founded?
- 39:48He sits enthroned. Above the circle.
- 39:50Of the Earth and its. People are like grasshoppers.
- 39:54He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them
- 39:57out like a tent to live in. He brings Princess to Naughty,
- 40:00and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.
- 40:03No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner
- 40:07do they take root in the ground. Then he blows on them, and they
- 40:11wither, and a whirlwind sweeps them.
- 40:14Away like chaff. To whom will you compare me, or
- 40:18who is my equal? Says the Holy One.
- 40:20Lift up your. Eyes and look to the heavens who
- 40:23created. All these.
- 40:24He who brings out the. Starry.
- 40:26Host 1 by 1 and calls forth each of them by name.
- 40:32Because of his great power. And mighty strength.
- 40:35Not one of them is missing. Why do you complain, Jacob?
- 40:39Why do you what? Why do you say Israel?
- 40:43My way is hidden from the Lord. My cause is disregarded by my
- 40:48God. Do you not know?
- 40:50Have you not heard? The Lord is the.
- 40:52Everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth, He will
- 40:58not. Grow tired or weary?
- 41:00And his understanding no one can fathom.
- 41:03He gives strength to the weary and increases.
- 41:07The power of the weak. So the Holy Spirit does that.
- 41:11Spirit of God, even youths grow tired and weary, and young men
- 41:16stumble and fall. But those who hope in the Lord
- 41:20will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like
- 41:24eagles. They will run and not.
- 41:27Grow weary, they will walk. And not be faint.
- 41:31So that's the end of chapter 41. I'll read the questions and
- 41:36answers and then we'll. Wrap this up.
- 41:39So we'll start. Here how are these prophecies?
- 41:42Fulfilled. They were initially fulfilled
- 41:44with the return of the Exiles from Babylon to Jerusalem.
- 41:47Because of the New Testament, we can see another fulfillment.
- 41:51Isaiah's words anticipated John the Baptist and the Good news
- 41:55announcing the coming Messiah. Whose voice was this?
- 41:59We know from the New Testament that this prophecy looked.
- 42:02Ahead to the Voice. Of John the Baptist, John, a
- 42:05relative of Jesus. Helped prepare the way for
- 42:07Jesus. 'S ministry by preaching the
- 42:09need for repentance as people became aware of their sin, the.
- 42:14Stage was set for Christ. 'S saving work.
- 42:18How can? God be both a powerful.
- 42:21Ruler and a gentle shepherd. There's no contradiction here
- 42:25for the Lord's strong arm. Is used both to rule.
- 42:29And to protect his people. The Lord cherishes.
- 42:32Those who follow him, he. Also displays his power.
- 42:36And his resolve to lead effectively.
- 42:38Jesus demonstrated both strength and gentleness.
- 42:41A Good Shepherd needs both. Why does God consider all
- 42:45nations as worthless? Saying that nations are
- 42:47worthless and less than nothing doesn't mean that God cares
- 42:50nothing about them. This is a literary device.
- 42:53Known as the hyperbole and acknowledged exaggeration to
- 42:57emphasize a point in comparison to the Lord's greatness, the
- 43:00nations are nothing more than a drop in the bucket or.
- 43:04A speck of dust that. Doesn't even make the.
- 43:07Scales flutter. What is the circle of the Earth?
- 43:10The horizon. This is the only time this
- 43:13phrase appears in the Bible. It's also called a vault.
- 43:17Does God manipulate political events?
- 43:20Yes, God can manipulate political events, and sometimes
- 43:24does so in a dramatic fashion. But humans are not mere puppets
- 43:28on a string. They still have the
- 43:30responsibility to respond. To what God does.
- 43:34And says, what does it mean to hope in the Lord?
- 43:39The word hope implies both trust and patience.
- 43:44Trust involves confidence in God's power to deliver and.
- 43:49Faith that he will keep. His promises hoping in the Lord
- 43:53also implies the patience. To wait for God's.
- 43:57Promises to be fulfilled. Since God works according to his
- 44:01own timing, many versions translate this phrase.
- 44:05Those who wait for the Lord. So that concludes chapter 40.
- 44:10I hope you subscribe and come back for chapter 41 and continue
- 44:15every day with a new chapter and discussion about what God's Word
- 44:20means or interpretations of it.
