- 0:05Speaker 1: Hey, what the hello?
- 0:06Speaker 2: Back by popular demand, the Polo Cencio is my guest
- 0:10Speaker 2: today on Cardinal Territory.
- 0:11Speaker 1: We're coming to you. He's life. I do see the sun.
- 0:16Speaker 1: So that's a nice time.
- 0:18Speaker 2: San Tho's Cardinals probably happy to get out of Boston.
- 0:22Speaker 2: The Red pitching staff as a whole gave up thirty
- 0:26Speaker 2: six runs and forty six hits.
- 0:27Speaker 1: That is not going to do it.
- 0:29Speaker 2: They went one and five over the last week. Welcome
- 0:31Speaker 2: back to reality. Follow what do you.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Got watching the San Luis First of all, before we
- 0:39Speaker 3: get into it, thank you Katie will And I know
- 0:41Speaker 3: when you say by popular the man who was probably
- 0:43Speaker 3: my daughter with her seventeen different handles asking for me
- 0:48Speaker 3: to be back. So thank you Katie and everybody at
- 0:50Speaker 3: Fall Territory. Watching that series of the Cardinals in Boston
- 0:55Speaker 3: was like watching a lamp fall slowly knowing that it's
- 1:01Speaker 3: gonna break, and you cannot do anything to stop that
- 1:05Speaker 3: lamp from falling and breaking. But the lamp doesn't break
- 1:10Speaker 3: because it's made out of plastic like bamboo. It bends,
- 1:13Speaker 3: but it does not break. And just as a lot
- 1:17Speaker 3: of people were not under wagon after the Cardinals swept
- 1:24Speaker 3: the Minnesota Twins. Now people are like, you see, I
- 1:27Speaker 3: told you they were not that good. I mean, we
- 1:30Speaker 3: as fans are really fickle, like when our team and
- 1:33Speaker 3: in this case we're talking about the Cardinals, when they
- 1:36Speaker 3: they sweep somebody, or oh that team is bad, that
- 1:39Speaker 3: team is not. Oh my god, they don't have any
- 1:40Speaker 3: good pitching. But then they lose to the Red Sauce.
- 1:43Speaker 3: You see, I told you we were terrible. It's like,
- 1:46Speaker 3: what who are we? What are we? And I get it,
- 1:48Speaker 3: you know, there was a lot of runs and yet
- 1:50Speaker 3: the pitching didn't help. And you know Ryan Helsley, I mean,
- 1:52Speaker 3: how many times is he gonna do that in the season?
- 1:54Speaker 4: Maybe twice?
- 1:55Speaker 3: And you know, Katie and anybody who's followed baseball over
- 1:59Speaker 3: the years, we know that that relievers, especially closers, they're
- 2:03Speaker 3: gonna they're gonna mess up once or twice a season. Hey,
- 2:07Speaker 3: right in Hellsley, that was his one for the month
- 2:09Speaker 3: of April. You know, hopefully he doesn't have one maybe
- 2:12Speaker 3: until the month of June, and then he goes on
- 2:15Speaker 3: a on a path of destruction and just you know,
- 2:18Speaker 3: burns everybody with the Hell's bells.
- 2:20Speaker 4: So yeah, it was it was a bad. It was
- 2:23Speaker 4: a really bad series. But it's not the end of
- 2:26Speaker 4: the world.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Again, it's only what nine games into the season, and
- 2:29Speaker 3: a lot of people are, oh.
- 2:30Speaker 4: This is startle, this is horrible. Come on people.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Before the season started, a lot of you had the
- 2:37Speaker 3: Cardinals at two and seven. After nine games, they're four
- 2:40Speaker 3: and five, right, so guess what we are ahead of
- 2:43Speaker 3: the game. Now we go to Pittsburgh, then we come
- 2:45Speaker 3: back home against Philadelphia.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Let's see what happens.
- 2:48Speaker 3: I mean, let the guys, let the boys play, and
- 2:51Speaker 3: let's look at the good, at the positive.
- 2:53Speaker 4: And you know me, Katie, I am very pessimistic, right,
- 2:56Speaker 4: A lot of yeah, you're always so happy. I'm I know.
- 3:00Speaker 3: It's not that I'm happy, it's just like I am
- 3:02Speaker 3: a I am a pessimistic that.
- 3:04Speaker 4: That puts a good act out there for people.
- 3:06Speaker 3: And and I still see this team doing good, you know,
- 3:10Speaker 3: like like when again with the Minnesota Twins and the
- 3:12Speaker 3: series against the Angels, Oh, look at the like at
- 3:14Speaker 3: the starting pictures, so everybody's pitching five six innings.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Oh my god, this is great, this is great. They
- 3:19Speaker 4: go to Boston. Eddie has a bad night, Michaelis has
- 3:23Speaker 4: a bad night.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Let's let's hope that's not the norm and it's just
- 3:26Speaker 3: something that happened in Boston.
- 3:28Speaker 4: And again, Boston is weird.
- 3:30Speaker 3: You know the history, the ghost Fenway Park, the little
- 3:33Speaker 3: thing that walks around with the big green head and
- 3:36Speaker 3: then the celebrat Wally and then and his girlfriend or
- 3:40Speaker 3: wife or is that who is she the mistress? I
- 3:42Speaker 3: have no idea who she is, but but she's with
- 3:45Speaker 3: with Wally all over the place.
- 3:46Speaker 4: So you know what is Boston? Give it to them.
- 3:49Speaker 4: It was their opening series.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Let's move on to me after the first after everybody
- 3:54Speaker 3: opens their season. Now the real season starts right and
- 3:58Speaker 3: and going into Pittsburgh, it's not gonna be easy. I
- 4:02Speaker 3: know you're gonna face this really tough pitching. What happens
- 4:05Speaker 3: if the guys continue to hit? And I know that,
- 4:07Speaker 3: You know, I don't want to go ahead and move
- 4:09Speaker 3: ahead to what we want to talk about or you
- 4:10Speaker 3: want to talk about, because I have no idea what
- 4:12Speaker 3: you want to talk about.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Hit.
- 4:16Speaker 3: That's what makes you great, Katie. We don't know what
- 4:19Speaker 3: we're gonna talk about it next thing. You know, it's
- 4:20Speaker 3: gonna be forty Minutes're like, you know what we already
- 4:22Speaker 3: went too long, So let's see what happens.
- 4:24Speaker 4: You know, it's nine games into the season.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I still like what I see and yeah, the pitching
- 4:30Speaker 3: again against Boston it wasn't great, but the hitting was
- 4:34Speaker 3: pretty good.
- 4:35Speaker 4: Right.
- 4:35Speaker 3: So, so coming into the season, the question was, Oh,
- 4:39Speaker 3: this guy's gonna hit?
- 4:40Speaker 4: Is this gonna hit? Is this guy going to hit?
- 4:42Speaker 3: Well, guess what everybody is hitting, even Wilson Contraders is
- 4:46Speaker 3: hitting little by little Mason Win. You know, the first
- 4:48Speaker 3: few games here in Samn Lewis, he goes to Boston,
- 4:51Speaker 3: Poppa hits everywhere. So people relax, come down and trust me,
- 4:55Speaker 3: I'm not drinking a kool aid. I'm not a company man.
- 4:58Speaker 3: I say what I feel. What I feel right now
- 5:01Speaker 3: is like, let's not panic. It's way too early to panic.
- 5:05Speaker 3: The Central Division. It's gonna be a tough one. But
- 5:07Speaker 3: I still believe this team can take it. And I'm
- 5:10Speaker 3: not gonna say they can take it easily, but they
- 5:13Speaker 3: can take it.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I feel like fans needed to hear some us, some
- 5:18Speaker 2: positive talk because it was not a positive weekend.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I mean, I I had fun.
- 5:23Speaker 4: I definitely happy birthday.
- 5:24Speaker 1: By the way, lamps, thank you, thank you.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Finally, twenty one.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Yeah, finally twenty one another you're older, definitely not wiser,
- 5:31Speaker 2: actually getting dumber by the year.
- 5:32Speaker 4: I think, yes, I sacond that, you know.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I think it was just not a very positive weekend
- 5:40Speaker 2: in general, not just because of the pitching performances. Obviously,
- 5:42Speaker 2: he talked about Betty not a good spot, Miles disastrous outing.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Plante was all right, you know, he's worked on some things.
- 5:48Speaker 2: It wasn't an efficient outing by any means, but he
- 5:50Speaker 2: kept them in the ballgame. But we have to get
- 5:52Speaker 2: to some news first, and well we'll thank our friends
- 5:55Speaker 2: dandel Sports Network for their scouting report.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Here. Levon Herrera HiT's the ten day injured list official
- 6:05Speaker 1: willhel Poso selected.
- 6:06Speaker 2: From Memphis with the corresponding move, Herrera left knee inflammation
- 6:09Speaker 2: sustained pain one of Sunday's doubleheader.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Uh. And I don't know if you watched it in
- 6:15Speaker 1: real time. I did.
- 6:16Speaker 2: It was a non contact injury, as he was running
- 6:19Speaker 2: from first to third on a Nolan arnaud A single
- 6:21Speaker 2: in the third inning. But anytime you see a non
- 6:23Speaker 2: contact injury, specifically with the leg, I always feel the worst. Uh.
- 6:27Speaker 1: And I saw it immediately with my little binoculars.
- 6:31Speaker 2: And the way that Herrera stopped immediately and could not
- 6:35Speaker 2: put any way on his leg, and how fast Ollie
- 6:38Speaker 2: Marvel and head trainer Adam Olsen came out. I immediately thought,
- 6:41Speaker 2: Oh no, I hope this is not like an acl
- 6:43Speaker 2: or a Cody situation. Good news here. While it's certainly
- 6:48Speaker 2: not good news that Herrera, who's been the.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Will miss time, the Cardinals believe he's avoided any serious da.
- 6:56Speaker 2: She went under MRIs and testing in Boston and all
- 6:59Speaker 2: of those owed no structural damage.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Meniscus is fine, ligaments are fine.
- 7:04Speaker 2: There is some inflammation, so he will require that ile stint,
- 7:07Speaker 2: but all things consider, they don't think it's a serious injury.
- 7:11Speaker 1: We talked to Herrara after Sunday night's game. He said
- 7:13Speaker 1: the same. He said it felt like a.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Shooting pain when it first happened, but now that he's
- 7:18Speaker 2: been able to walk around put some weight on it,
- 7:19Speaker 2: it's not as bad as anyone initially feared.
- 7:21Speaker 1: So take that for.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Herrera, get a people and Gorman who ended up on
- 7:25Speaker 2: the ile on Friday with the right hamstring strain. But
- 7:27Speaker 2: if we're taking some silver linings from these players injuries.
- 7:30Speaker 1: It's that neither are expected to time.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Now, what does this mean for the Cardinals and they're
- 7:38Speaker 2: catching situation which he's going to take a majority of
- 7:42Speaker 2: the starts.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I'm not sure if he's gonna be cleared to go today.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Uh and now here they are heard for the night game,
- 7:52Speaker 2: So maybe you'll see Pozok at the start today until comes.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Back here paper pause, behind weight.
- 7:58Speaker 2: What do you think you need from Obviously that that
- 8:02Speaker 2: is not the same as.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Fill that gap. He's certainly.
- 8:11Speaker 4: He is.
- 8:12Speaker 3: He's capable of catching, he's capable throwing, and he can
- 8:15Speaker 3: hit right obviously evon three home runs here, one home
- 8:18Speaker 3: run over there. So it's it's at least at the beginning.
- 8:21Speaker 3: The numbers are explosive. They're they're like they're they're on
- 8:25Speaker 3: your like in your face, everybody looking at the four
- 8:27Speaker 3: home runs.
- 8:28Speaker 4: But Pedro. Pedro can hit. He proved that.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Last season when he had consistency, and he is going
- 8:34Speaker 3: to be able to hit now with Ivan out hopefully
- 8:37Speaker 3: hopefully again, I don't know much more than what you
- 8:40Speaker 3: just said. Hopefully it's just a ten days hopefully he
- 8:43Speaker 3: comes back. And when he comes back, how is he
- 8:46Speaker 3: going to come back? Is he going to be able
- 8:48Speaker 3: to play? Behind the play. Is he going to be
- 8:50Speaker 3: able to stay you know, seven to eight innings a
- 8:54Speaker 3: game and then the ninth pedroal comes in and finishes it.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Is he going to be able to do that? So
- 8:59Speaker 3: I think Ali and the and the coaches are gonna
- 9:02Speaker 3: have to be really careful with him. And knowing Yvonne
- 9:05Speaker 3: and we all know that he works really really hard,
- 9:07Speaker 3: not only as a catcher, as a hitter, but also
- 9:10Speaker 3: with his body, like like conditioning and all that is
- 9:13Speaker 3: really tough. He is hard on it. So hopefully that
- 9:16Speaker 3: work that he did in the off season translates to
- 9:20Speaker 3: now right and he comes back strong, He comes back
- 9:23Speaker 3: a little a little relax and a little you know,
- 9:26Speaker 3: just not so not so much pressure on him or
- 9:30Speaker 3: his knees, no pun intended. So let's see what Pedro
- 9:33Speaker 3: does and and what I've learned about Pedro papiedra as
- 9:36Speaker 3: I called him, by the way, So when I called
- 9:40Speaker 3: Pedro's home runs.
- 9:41Speaker 4: I say Pedro pa piedra because.
- 9:43Speaker 3: In Spanish, Fred Flintstone is Pedro pica piedra. So when
- 9:48Speaker 3: I when I called the yaba dabado, it's not me
- 9:51Speaker 3: just saying stuff that makes no sense. Trust me makes
- 9:54Speaker 3: sense because this java dabado through at the end dudo
- 9:58Speaker 3: means hard, so yava daba do yaba da hard. Pedro
- 10:02Speaker 3: Pia Piatra Fred Flintstone hits the ball really really hard.
- 10:05Speaker 4: There you go, in.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Case you were wondering why I do yaba. And by
- 10:09Speaker 3: the way, he told me when he was a little kid,
- 10:12Speaker 3: some people called them Pedro, pikap Pierre because you know,
- 10:14Speaker 3: he's strong and and then hefty, like like pedrol pickup piata.
- 10:18Speaker 4: So with that said, I think this is not this
- 10:23Speaker 4: is not a.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Terrible situation for the Cardinals because as you know, Katie,
- 10:27Speaker 3: and as we know, baseball gods always puts everybody in place, right,
- 10:32Speaker 3: They always have a way of fixing or putting people
- 10:36Speaker 3: in place. And what this does it tells the Cardinals
- 10:40Speaker 3: play Pedro a little more behind the plate and then
- 10:44Speaker 3: when Yvonne comes back, take it slowly with him and
- 10:47Speaker 3: you have another option with when it comes down to
- 10:50Speaker 3: the age. Now again, I don't know what Ali and
- 10:53Speaker 3: the coaches are doing, so hopefully this is more than
- 10:57Speaker 3: more than than hurts. The Cardinals helps him set up
- 11:00Speaker 3: different things, different situations, and I know that the start
- 11:04Speaker 3: of the hitting has been really, really good, except maybe
- 11:07Speaker 3: for Wilson contrels that he's going to get there. But
- 11:09Speaker 3: I'm not worried about Pedro being behind the plate and
- 11:13Speaker 3: not having the battle of Ivan Herrera. Somebody else is
- 11:16Speaker 3: going to pick it up. And the other thing about
- 11:18Speaker 3: Juel Polso, I had a chance to talk to him.
- 11:20Speaker 3: I was actually there in spring training when he showed
- 11:22Speaker 3: up for the first couple of days and he was
- 11:24Speaker 3: talking to by Central Leguez, who was, you know, scouting
- 11:27Speaker 3: international for the for the Cardinals, and Moises told him,
- 11:30Speaker 3: you know, we try to sign you back in the
- 11:33Speaker 3: early twenty tens when you were still in Venezuela. But
- 11:35Speaker 3: then he signed with Texas and the story goes, and
- 11:38Speaker 3: I retweeted your tweet yesterday. He told Moyses there like, well,
- 11:43Speaker 3: in November, I signed with the Braves one day and
- 11:46Speaker 3: then the very next day they released me. They didn't
- 11:48Speaker 3: even let me know, like he didn't have a job
- 11:51Speaker 3: and he didn't even know. And then somehow the Cardinals
- 11:54Speaker 3: figure it out that the agent cold, I believe, and
- 11:57Speaker 3: that's how they signed him. So this kid, he's not
- 12:00Speaker 3: a young kid. He's not he's not a rookie He's
- 12:02Speaker 3: somebody with a lot of experience. He's been in professional
- 12:05Speaker 3: baseball since what twenty thirteen when he signed with Texas,
- 12:08Speaker 3: So I believe he will be a very good backup
- 12:11Speaker 3: until Ivon comes back. And let's see what happens then.
- 12:14Speaker 3: But for now, Cardinal Nation, don't worry about it. Pedro's
- 12:17Speaker 3: gonna be fine. He's gonna be fine behind the plate.
- 12:19Speaker 3: And I get again, I'm a big believer of the
- 12:23Speaker 3: power of Fred Flinstone and the Bronto.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Borgers of Papa. So that's what That's what I have
- 12:28Speaker 4: for you, Katie.
- 12:29Speaker 1: What on that regard what the Cardinals.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Fans are interested in knowing more about Joel Poso. There's
- 12:34Speaker 2: a really strong story.
- 12:37Speaker 4: But is it hoel or Yoh?
- 12:39Speaker 1: You know what, let me check the pronounciation.
- 12:41Speaker 3: I think it's hoel. I mean it is with a y,
- 12:43Speaker 3: but I believe he pronounces it hoel.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Okay, So on ticket for what it's worth.
- 12:48Speaker 2: In the MLB pronunciation guide that was sent to us
- 12:50Speaker 2: earlier today, it says pronounced Joe.
- 12:54Speaker 1: El so Joe with the with the J or with
- 12:58Speaker 1: the y j o dad e l.
- 13:00Speaker 4: The e l is capitalized in Spanish.
- 13:03Speaker 1: That is I'm gonna just ask him when I see him.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Yes, great, that's that's that's great, and great brought great journalism,
- 13:12Speaker 3: Capital Jay journalism.
- 13:15Speaker 4: State University journalism pays off.
- 13:18Speaker 2: But Pozo Has has such an interesting and unique story.
- 13:22Speaker 2: And Levi Weaver of the Athletics did a nice profile
- 13:24Speaker 2: on him UH a couple of years ago. And his story,
- 13:28Speaker 2: I'll say, you know, does not start out in the
- 13:29Speaker 2: most uplifting ways, but to get where he is now
- 13:32Speaker 2: and the lessons that he's learned, you know, I strongly
- 13:35Speaker 2: recommend any Cardinals fan go read it and check it out.
- 13:37Speaker 2: But yeah, we'll see him, We'll see pau Has behind
- 13:40Speaker 2: the plate. I'd like to see Pedro do a little
- 13:42Speaker 2: bit better with the framing. I thought on Sunday it
- 13:44Speaker 2: could have been a little better. But again, this is
- 13:47Speaker 2: a guy who is commended by his teammates UH for
- 13:49Speaker 2: his game prep, for his preparation, his study plan. I
- 13:53Speaker 2: mean Andre Polante was singing Pedro pa has his praises
- 13:55Speaker 2: yesterday after the game.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Pedro works very very hard.
- 13:59Speaker 2: No, he does not have the pure power barrel bat
- 14:02Speaker 2: of Amon Herrera.
- 14:03Speaker 1: But he's more than capable of getting things done.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Hew, can he drive in three runs on Sunday, coming
- 14:07Speaker 2: in as an emergency replacement. So I think I'll just
- 14:10Speaker 2: find there something I do want to talk about. It
- 14:14Speaker 2: is the bullpen, and as a bullpen believer, I'm refusing
- 14:17Speaker 2: to know that I was wrong, But no, I do
- 14:20Speaker 2: think we have some things to address there with we'll
- 14:23Speaker 2: get a first kind of look at how Ollie Marble
- 14:26Speaker 2: does his development in real time. First, though, we need
- 14:29Speaker 2: to hear from our pals at Hungry Root krats.

- 15:46Speaker 2: just did a doubleheader nineteen innings. Because anytime there's a
- 15:49Speaker 2: double header, there's going to be actual any This is cool.
- 15:52Speaker 2: I leave Friendway at midnight, I get to my hotel

- 15:58Speaker 2: Flight to Pittsburgh. Back at the hotel. I got to
- 16:01Speaker 2: be at PNC Park in about sixty minutes. Yeah, we're
- 16:06Speaker 2: still back, but I knew we were back when in
- 16:08Speaker 2: the first week of the season she had three raindelays,
- 16:12Speaker 2: three extra Indians and a doubleheader.
- 16:15Speaker 1: And you and I both grew up in California, so
- 16:17Speaker 1: like this, raindelays were not a thing for me growing up.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I never saw the tart at Oracle Park or I
- 16:24Speaker 2: was like, what a waste of stakes. Now I see it's.
- 16:28Speaker 3: There, it's it's, it's it's it's part of the part
- 16:31Speaker 3: of the picture. It's part of the the background or
- 16:35Speaker 3: the scenery or everything. And yeah, I know, like you know,
- 16:38Speaker 3: when I used to go to games in LA and
- 16:40Speaker 3: when I work with the Dodgers, I think I saw
- 16:42Speaker 3: that thing maybe in ten years, maybe three times, maybe
- 16:46Speaker 3: three times. And never never uh never postponement like like
- 16:50Speaker 3: you know, let's stop the game and then we'll play,
- 16:52Speaker 3: but never like hey, come back in three weeks.
- 16:54Speaker 4: But it is the Midwest, it is Sin Louis.
- 16:57Speaker 3: That's why they have a game a day in between
- 17:00Speaker 3: day and the rest of of the week. And yeah,
- 17:02Speaker 3: I mean to have to have a little rain opening day.
- 17:06Speaker 3: It's it's it's. I think it's washing away the bad.
- 17:10Speaker 4: Thoughts of those out there.
- 17:14Speaker 3: There's still negative about the Cardinals, and I get it right.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Negative sells more than happiness unless you're really really good,
- 17:21Speaker 3: like the Blues are doing right now here in.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Sign Louis, I know, I know.
- 17:25Speaker 3: Hey, let's get the cup, let's turn into I went
- 17:30Speaker 3: to the game the other day.
- 17:31Speaker 4: It was fun.
- 17:32Speaker 2: I have too much fun of Blues games. If you've
- 17:34Speaker 2: ever seen me at a Blues game, I'm sorry. That's
- 17:36Speaker 2: not a true reflection of who I am.
- 17:38Speaker 3: No it is, it is so but yeah, no, no,
- 17:40Speaker 3: it's it's I mean, it's right now, it's it's beautiful,
- 17:42Speaker 3: it's sonny, it's a little windy, and right now it's great.
- 17:45Speaker 3: But if you look at the weather for the weekend,
- 17:47Speaker 3: it might not be this great. But hopefully, hopefully things change,
- 17:53Speaker 3: the weather, the pattern, summer, beautiful pool here at one Cardinalway, which,
- 17:58Speaker 3: by the way, you are invited again, and I you.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Do not need to be if you've ever seen me
- 18:02Speaker 2: a one Cardinal way, I'm so sorry.
- 18:03Speaker 1: That's not a true reflection of who I am.
- 18:06Speaker 4: Now. Is it a true reflection of what we saw?
- 18:10Speaker 4: Or is it true what we saw?
- 18:11Speaker 3: Is that the reflection of the of the Cardinals bullpen, Katie,
- 18:14Speaker 3: I mean, I think I think and I believe you
- 18:17Speaker 3: and I had this conversation and nothing against anybody, right,
- 18:20Speaker 3: like if you see me ten, twelve, thirteen, fifteen, whatever.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Years ago, when I started in this business, I was
- 18:27Speaker 3: not as good as I am.
- 18:29Speaker 4: I was good, but not like who I am right now. Right.
- 18:33Speaker 1: We developed in the media too.
- 18:36Speaker 3: So there's development in baseball, and yeah, I get it.
- 18:39Speaker 3: You know, they have the minor leagues, you know, high school, college,
- 18:41Speaker 3: minor leagues, then the big leagues. And I still think
- 18:45Speaker 3: this bullpen is really really young, even though you know
- 18:47Speaker 3: Roycroft was here last season. Lay he was here last season.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Bryan Fernandez had a great season. JoJo's been here for
- 18:54Speaker 3: a couple of years. Of course, Hellsley and film Mayitan
- 18:57Speaker 3: he's the veteran, and you can tell he is the veteran.
- 19:00Speaker 3: He comes in and it basically lights out. So when
- 19:03Speaker 3: it comes down to the bullpen, I like it, but
- 19:05Speaker 3: I don't know if I love it yet. And I
- 19:08Speaker 3: feel that if this Cardinal team continues to win, and
- 19:11Speaker 3: they're gonna continue to win, I don't know. I wonder
- 19:15Speaker 3: if there might be a change or two coming in
- 19:17Speaker 3: the bullpen, because, like I said, experience makes you better.
- 19:21Speaker 4: Most of the time.
- 19:22Speaker 3: So hopefully the experience makes the guys better. And you
- 19:25Speaker 3: saw them in Boston. They were used over and over again.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Now let's see what happens in this series.
- 19:31Speaker 4: And in Pittsburgh.
- 19:33Speaker 3: I mean Procepho yesterday he came in and he took
- 19:36Speaker 3: it for for for the bullpen, right, so so that
- 19:40Speaker 3: was good to see. But now let's see what happens
- 19:43Speaker 3: with the with the Pittsburgh Pirates. And let's see how
- 19:45Speaker 3: the starters react to what the bullpen, how much the
- 19:49Speaker 3: bullpen has been working, And let's see what the coaches
- 19:51Speaker 3: say in a couple of days. Hopefully you know, Sonny
- 19:54Speaker 3: and everybody else goes seven eighty things and we don't
- 19:56Speaker 3: talk about this, but let's see what happens. And and
- 19:59Speaker 3: I'm not worried about the bullpen. I'm not worried about
- 20:00Speaker 3: any part of this team.
- 20:02Speaker 4: Not yet. It's way too early to start saying, ah, well,
- 20:05Speaker 4: I'm not I got here we go again. I'm not
- 20:07Speaker 4: going to the stadium. No, it it's way to early.
- 20:10Speaker 4: It's way it's it's it's eight ten in the morning.
- 20:13Speaker 4: Nobody wait wakes up with the bad mood unless they
- 20:15Speaker 4: go out than.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Pretty mad a couple of days ago that.
- 20:20Speaker 4: What I was saying, That was what I was gonna say.
- 20:22Speaker 3: But you don't let me finish unless you're Katie Woing Boston,
- 20:25Speaker 3: And yeah, you wake up regretting the next day what
- 20:27Speaker 3: you do.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Oh, I have zero regrets. I do not regret.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Any No regards like that tattoo from that guy, No regards.
- 20:37Speaker 2: I'm glad you talked about the bullpen. Let's let's talk
- 20:38Speaker 2: about this. Two writings that need to get right creative,
- 20:44Speaker 2: Ryan Bernandaz and Chris Raycroft. They are going to be
- 20:46Speaker 2: two instrumental people in this bullpen. We talked about Ryan Helsley. Yeah,
- 20:50Speaker 2: not a great outing from him on Sunday Game one,
- 20:53Speaker 2: but you know he's still Ryan Helsley, philm Ayton. If
- 20:56Speaker 2: you're gonna make one free agent signing, it better be
- 20:58Speaker 2: a good one, mister Mozallak, and he is a good
- 21:00Speaker 2: one so far.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I think we want to have really locked down the
- 21:03Speaker 1: eight and the ninth. But I thought it was interesting.
- 21:06Speaker 2: How we saw Fernandez and Roycroft used over the weekend.
- 21:09Speaker 2: These are guys, Fernandez in particular, who has not bared
- 21:13Speaker 2: well to start the season, and the Cardinals had slotted
- 21:16Speaker 2: in Ryan Fernandez in this high leverage role for this
- 21:19Speaker 2: year based on how well he did in his rookie year.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Last year.
- 21:22Speaker 2: He had a fantastic rookie campaign as their Rule five pick,
- 21:25Speaker 2: and he's earned this opportunity. There's always going to be
- 21:27Speaker 2: some stepbacks and adjustments, right and with Fernandez, it was
- 21:30Speaker 2: clear very early on that he was struggling to locate
- 21:33Speaker 2: his slider and that's a big pitch for him. So
- 21:37Speaker 2: this is not something that guys can fix in a
- 21:39Speaker 2: full time session, especially young players and inexperienced players like
- 21:43Speaker 2: Fernandez that you know don't necessarily have the skills to
- 21:47Speaker 2: adjust in real time yet because they haven't been in
- 21:48Speaker 2: the league long enough to do so. So on Friday,
- 21:52Speaker 2: we saw Fernandez enter the game with the Cardinals trailing.
- 21:55Speaker 2: That's usually not the spot that Ollie Marml's going to
- 21:57Speaker 2: use him in. However, he needs for to get right
- 22:01Speaker 2: in real time, and he's not going to throw them
- 22:03Speaker 2: in there with a lead if he knows that one
- 22:05Speaker 2: of his setup guys is not feeling confident about how
- 22:08Speaker 2: to land his slider and also his cutter. Those two
- 22:10Speaker 2: pitches are correlated and related to each other. And how
- 22:12Speaker 2: Bernandez uses them, uses them.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Oh my god, so throw Bernanda's in. It doesn't go well.
- 22:19Speaker 2: The Red Sox continued to score. He's still struggling. But
- 22:22Speaker 2: he comes out of that game. He goes up to
- 22:25Speaker 2: all it and he comes up up to the media
- 22:26Speaker 2: after and he said that outing was still helpful and
- 22:29Speaker 2: helpful to me. My last two pitches I threw felt
- 22:32Speaker 2: really good, and I think I figured out where I
- 22:34Speaker 2: need to be. So we'll see in Pittsburgh what he
- 22:37Speaker 2: looks like. I know he threw like five pitches in
- 22:39Speaker 2: the tenth and that walk off loss, but on our
- 22:41Speaker 2: run he didn't put the ground second brought Manfred did
- 22:44Speaker 2: the same situation with Chris roy Kram. Well, he's not
- 22:46Speaker 2: going to be used in as high leverage situations as
- 22:49Speaker 2: Bernanda's yet because he's still relatively new. He's also going
- 22:53Speaker 2: to be a big piece for his head batches this year,
- 22:55Speaker 2: but going forward, and he was having a hard time
- 22:58Speaker 2: landing his sinker, so he got roughed up two stressful outings.
- 23:04Speaker 2: He said, I believed you had two earned runs earlier
- 23:06Speaker 2: in the weekend. His boss counting doesn't look like the
- 23:08Speaker 2: Chris Roycroft and so when I saw him warming up
- 23:13Speaker 2: and the Cardinals were down eighteen to three in the
- 23:16Speaker 2: seventh I thought, what the heck are you doing? That's
- 23:20Speaker 2: I didn't use pack by the way, I was like, what.
- 23:24Speaker 1: On the mound?
- 23:25Speaker 4: You're not gonna have enough.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Pitching, you know, guys, after the game I did asked
- 23:30Speaker 2: Ollie Marmal, what would and having boy crossed in because
- 23:33Speaker 2: obviously there's something you wanted to work. There's no other
- 23:38Speaker 2: reason he's in the game other than that, So that's
- 23:40Speaker 2: exactly right. Put Worycroft in there because he needed to
- 23:44Speaker 2: work in real time, a real game situation on landing
- 23:46Speaker 2: his singer.
- 23:47Speaker 1: His mechanics were all out of whack.
- 23:48Speaker 2: He didn't feel confident. He gets right in that game.
- 23:51Speaker 2: And then he said, and I believe this. This is
- 23:54Speaker 2: a perfect example of one saint development in the major leagues.
- 23:57Speaker 2: The game was had spirals out of control by the
- 24:00Speaker 2: Roycroft's working on some stuff.
- 24:01Speaker 1: He has the opportunity to do so in a big,
- 24:03Speaker 1: weak setting.
- 24:05Speaker 2: He walked out, you know, go talk to him. I
- 24:07Speaker 2: think he's pretty confidence. So we walk over there and
- 24:10Speaker 2: he is like, this was helpful. This is exactly what
- 24:13Speaker 2: I needed. I feel so much more confident going into
- 24:15Speaker 2: the next series, because I think I figured out in
- 24:17Speaker 2: real time. So I thought that was like a pretty
- 24:20Speaker 2: good microcosm and maybe helpful for fans who are not
- 24:22Speaker 2: quite understanding how this transition year development near will play out.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Those two situations over the weekend with Fernandas and Roycroft
- 24:29Speaker 2: are not their usual usages, but they serve a different
- 24:32Speaker 2: purpose for the long run.
- 24:34Speaker 1: And you know, I'm still a believer in the bullpen.
- 24:37Speaker 1: I still think that they have a lot of weapons.
- 24:40Speaker 2: And while it didn't make sense in real time, I
- 24:43Speaker 2: do see what the purpose was there, and talking to
- 24:45Speaker 2: both those pictures and seeing the relief in real.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Time, and a lot of things don't make sense in
- 24:52Speaker 3: real time, like that what you just said, I guarantee
- 24:56Speaker 3: you myself included like why are we doing why if
- 25:00Speaker 3: we are down by so many runs in the seventh eighth,
- 25:02Speaker 3: And why don't we put Burlison to pitch?
- 25:05Speaker 4: Why don't we put Donnie to pitch?
- 25:07Speaker 3: Somebody that wants to throw a couple of pitches and
- 25:10Speaker 3: he brings the young guys.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Now, it makes all the sense in the.
- 25:13Speaker 3: World, right, because if there's a position inside a major
- 25:18Speaker 3: league roster that cannot go down to get fixed and
- 25:23Speaker 3: come back up the next day or cannot work things out.
- 25:27Speaker 4: On the side, it's.
- 25:29Speaker 3: A reliever because if you have a bullpen as a
- 25:31Speaker 3: reliever before the game, then you're not gonna play.
- 25:34Speaker 4: You're not gonna pitch that game. And if you pitch
- 25:36Speaker 4: the night before, now.
- 25:37Speaker 3: You're really tired because you've been used two times in
- 25:40Speaker 3: a row. How many times do we bang our heads
- 25:42Speaker 3: when we see relievers warm up for an inning and
- 25:44Speaker 3: a half and then they come into.
- 25:46Speaker 4: The game and boom, boom boom. So that's what happens.
- 25:49Speaker 3: So you and the rest of Saint Louis media that
- 25:53Speaker 3: asked that question to Ali, that was a great question
- 25:56Speaker 3: and that puts light on a situation where a lot
- 25:59Speaker 3: of us sometimes don't understand right and a lot of
- 26:02Speaker 3: the fans don't have the chance to ask those questions.
- 26:05Speaker 3: And you guys do, and you did, and what was
- 26:07Speaker 3: the answer. Well, yes, I know that maybe tomorrow we're
- 26:11Speaker 3: not going to be able to use them, But guess what,
- 26:13Speaker 3: the season is not just tomorrow, it's only nine games
- 26:16Speaker 3: in the season.
- 26:17Speaker 4: We need to.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Work things out with this young kids, and if for
- 26:20Speaker 3: some reason they cannot work it out, well they are
- 26:24Speaker 3: here in the big leagues, then we might send them down,
- 26:26Speaker 3: bring somebody up, or go, you know, sign somebody, or
- 26:29Speaker 3: make a trade and bring somebody else. So that is
- 26:32Speaker 3: to me, that makes perfect sense. And I hope that
- 26:37Speaker 3: using them in those situations, even if they got you know,
- 26:41Speaker 3: if they give up a bunch of heads or as
- 26:43Speaker 3: some people say, they got rocked, hopefully getting rocked that
- 26:46Speaker 3: day means getting better the rest of the month, the
- 26:50Speaker 3: rest of the season.
- 26:52Speaker 4: And I like that.
- 26:53Speaker 3: I like that, like give these kids a chance, Like
- 26:56Speaker 3: how many times we hear on the radio whatever, Oh well,
- 27:01Speaker 3: let them play. Let the kids play well, let them learn,
- 27:03Speaker 3: let them learn well, guess what they are learning.
- 27:05Speaker 4: And again, what is it? Four and five?
- 27:07Speaker 3: That's not a bad I mean, yeah, it's a losing
- 27:09Speaker 3: record by one game, but it's not a bad record,
- 27:12Speaker 3: Like it really is not.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Like I like it. I like that.
- 27:16Speaker 3: And now that you say that, and you ask that
- 27:18Speaker 3: question and you bring it to us here, now I
- 27:21Speaker 3: feel a lot better, Like for real, I'm not kidding,
- 27:23Speaker 3: I feel a lot better because now I know that
- 27:26Speaker 3: something that I knew that it's hard for a bullpen
- 27:29Speaker 3: piece to get better as they go.
- 27:32Speaker 4: This is how you use them. This is how you
- 27:34Speaker 4: help them get better.
- 27:35Speaker 3: And yes, maybe they won't be available for today, but
- 27:38Speaker 3: guess what, there's another game tomorrow. There's another game on Wednesday,
- 27:41Speaker 3: then we come home on Friday to face the Phillies.
- 27:44Speaker 4: So I like that, I really do.
- 27:46Speaker 3: And those guys, you know, the roy Crows, the Leahy,
- 27:49Speaker 3: the Fernande especially, they have the trust of the manager.
- 27:53Speaker 3: They have the trust of Dusty and everybody else in
- 27:55Speaker 3: that coaching staff. So when somebody trust you, and just
- 28:01Speaker 3: in general in life, when somebody gives you their trust,
- 28:05Speaker 3: I don't think there's anything bigger than somebody can give
- 28:07Speaker 3: you than their trust, if they trust you with with secrets,
- 28:12Speaker 3: with whatever, with life, with with even even you know,
- 28:15Speaker 3: when when you're ranting about something, appreciate that.
- 28:18Speaker 4: And I hope that the kids appreciate that trust.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Everybody in that team and talking about the bullpen appreciates
- 28:25Speaker 3: that and shows their appreciation by by developing and by
- 28:30Speaker 3: by doing the best they can to succeed and be
- 28:34Speaker 3: part of this team. Because I said it before, and
- 28:37Speaker 3: I'm gonna say, this is gonna be a fun season.
- 28:40Speaker 3: You know, we might not win or the team might
- 28:42Speaker 3: not win one hundred games, ninety five games.
- 28:44Speaker 4: But this team is gonna be there. It's gonna be exciting.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Like like like I said before, and this this this show,
- 28:51Speaker 3: I don't know twenty minutes ago. I am a I'm
- 28:54Speaker 3: a very pessimistic person. But for some reason, I trust
- 28:58Speaker 3: this team and do something good right And like I
- 29:01Speaker 3: said the other day, if you're not here when we
- 29:05Speaker 3: are not great, don't come back in September when we
- 29:09Speaker 3: are about to celebrate and pop.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Well, that's the part of being the fan. You and
- 29:13Speaker 1: I know this.
- 29:13Speaker 2: We ride the roller coaster together, whether we want to
- 29:16Speaker 2: or not. I can't escape it. It's everywhere neither, It's everywhere.
- 29:19Speaker 4: It's everywhere, and I cannot wait.
- 29:21Speaker 3: I mean, it's been too long since our my little
- 29:24Speaker 3: s quickty Mexicanized have been burned by champagne and beer.
- 29:27Speaker 4: So it's time.
- 29:28Speaker 3: And I see it coming in hopefully the bullpen, and
- 29:33Speaker 3: I know the bullpen is going to be a big piece.
- 29:34Speaker 3: It's gonna be a big piece. I mean, I like
- 29:37Speaker 3: the hitting. I like the defense. I mean, we haven't
- 29:39Speaker 3: talked about defense that they're They're to me, they're having
- 29:42Speaker 3: a really good year.
- 29:44Speaker 4: Everything is very, very tight and I like it.
- 29:47Speaker 3: You know, Ali making some some situations, some decisions that
- 29:51Speaker 3: at times we scratch our heads, like yesterday, but now
- 29:54Speaker 3: thanks to you and only you, Katie, will now everybody
- 29:58Speaker 3: knows why Roycroft was pitching in the eighth inning.
- 30:01Speaker 4: I guess the Red Sox when the team was what
- 30:04Speaker 4: eighteen to three.
- 30:05Speaker 3: And by the way, I don't know if we're going
- 30:07Speaker 3: to talk about this, but the way the guys came
- 30:10Speaker 3: back in the ninth inning. Yes, I know it was
- 30:12Speaker 3: like ten twelve runs, but it would have been easy
- 30:15Speaker 3: for them to just go in there and just try
- 30:17Speaker 3: to pop up and let's go, let's go to Pittsburgh.
- 30:18Speaker 4: This is done. No, they came in the boom, boom boom.
- 30:22Speaker 3: They made Alex Corer and the Red Sox at least
- 30:25Speaker 3: scrashed their heads and move around the dugout because it
- 30:29Speaker 3: was starting to get not uncomfortable, but it was starting
- 30:32Speaker 3: to get to a point where like they might have
- 30:34Speaker 3: to use their big relievers, right, not just the guys,
- 30:37Speaker 3: the mop up guys or whatever you want to call them.
- 30:39Speaker 3: They were about to start using their big guys because
- 30:41Speaker 3: the Cardinals kept on coming, the young rebirds kept on coming,
- 30:45Speaker 3: and I like that.
- 30:46Speaker 4: I like that. I love that. I really do like.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Oh, you can't see it, but I am doing that.
- 30:50Speaker 1: It's cute. I like that little bird thing.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Yeah that, No, I agree, And they did that on
- 30:57Speaker 2: Friday to having to get Chapman in the game.
- 30:58Speaker 1: They you know, we'll see how it goes.
- 31:00Speaker 2: We'll break down the upcoming Pittsburgh Pirates series. But first
- 31:04Speaker 2: we got one more sponsor read.
- 31:06Speaker 4: To do more food.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, where's you go? There? You are? No,
- 31:12Speaker 1: there you are? You need to talk to Literally, what
- 31:16Speaker 1: am I doing right now? I have no idea, Like
- 31:19Speaker 1: I said, three hours of sleep.

- 32:34Speaker 3: And one of the sayings that I heard from the
- 32:37Speaker 3: great Manni Modou Pinchater Gestorian air from the seventies and
- 32:41Speaker 3: eighties with the Dodgers he used to tell me all
- 32:44Speaker 3: the time and once in a while still is like follow,
- 32:46Speaker 3: baseball is so weird that the baseball is round and
- 32:50Speaker 3: it comes inside a square box. Make that make sense? Right,
- 32:55Speaker 3: there's the baseball, there's the square box. There's little holes,
- 32:58Speaker 3: there's little ways, air, so the fans and everybody else,
- 33:03Speaker 3: we need to fill up that box with little brains
- 33:05Speaker 3: of happiness and enjoy baseball because at the end, it's
- 33:09Speaker 3: a it's a great sport, it's a family event. Bring
- 33:12Speaker 3: your kids. I know that you know my kids and
- 33:15Speaker 3: I and a lot of people that I know. We
- 33:17Speaker 3: have a tight relationship because of baseball and because of sports.
- 33:21Speaker 3: You know, because when we lose, well, we are all hurting,
- 33:25Speaker 3: and when we win, we are all celebrating. And we
- 33:28Speaker 3: cannot say that about everything in life by with sports.
- 33:32Speaker 3: With baseball, when we when we lose, trust me, we
- 33:35Speaker 3: all hurt the same. And when we win, well, some
- 33:39Speaker 3: like Katie will celebrates a little extra but much yeah yeah,
- 33:46Speaker 3: but yeah, sometimes we celebrate Katie woo. But yeah, thanks
