- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good Morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset, coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day. To record a podcast.
- 0:15To teach distinctions, possibilities, new ways of
- 0:18thinking, and just bring some joy.
- 0:20Into the. World.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey everybody.
- 0:29Good morning from the porch. The very dark, very early porch
- 0:33and the storms have stopped. We've had great weather the last
- 0:38couple days. Things are drying out.
- 0:41But as I walk around, I'm looking at quite a few things
- 0:44that have died off. And one of my projects was to
- 0:48put some tractor seat plants out around this entrance when you
- 0:53come in. And they're supposed to be very
- 0:55durable and they need a mix of a little bit of sun and a little
- 1:00bit of shade. And they do really well when
- 1:02it's half and half. And apparently the, the ground
- 1:06is so saturated that they are flopped over and looking
- 1:10terrible. And I don't know if they're gone
- 1:12or not. I don't know if I've lost them.
- 1:14So today's conversation is about what do you do when you're,
- 1:18you've done all this work and then you find that it flops.
- 1:22Now I'm using this in an example of plants, but I, I mean, this
- 1:27happens across the board. This, this happens wherever you
- 1:30go. I'm also in the midst of
- 1:31revamping my website and going through and cleaning up a bunch
- 1:35of stuff after a year of having it the way that it is, I'm
- 1:39seeing what's working, what's not working, what do I want to
- 1:42change? And organically, for me, this
- 1:46time of year is one of those times where I just say, oh, it's
- 1:50like back to school in my head. There's that back to school
- 1:53thing. I was always grilled into it.
- 1:54I loved that going back to school.
- 1:57I loved the learning, didn't love the environment, but loved
- 1:59the learning. And really just always loved my
- 2:03books, my book covers, getting all the school supplies and
- 2:06doing all that and getting organized, cleaning up my room,
- 2:09getting it all ready. And to me, this is like all this
- 2:13time of the year anyway, where you would look at this, you
- 2:15would clean up, you would straighten things out, you would
- 2:17start to go down that road. But all those storms, you know,
- 2:22we had this intense, crazy heat and then it was followed by the
- 2:25storms and 10 inches of rain in one day on top of already
- 2:30saturated ground. It just took things out.
- 2:34So as I sit here and I look and I say all that effort was put in
- 2:39and, you know, things are not working the way I had intended
- 2:43them to work. So now what?
- 2:45What do I want to do? How do I want to see this?
- 2:48And this is the gift in doing it in real time in the farm,
- 2:53because it reminds me not to give up.
- 2:56It reminds me that this is a condition for right now.
- 2:59It reminds me that says, OK, that doesn't mean it's a
- 3:03disaster. You know, flowers have been
- 3:05beaten up. Flowers are now going to seed
- 3:08head. And you look at it and you think
- 3:10it's dead, but it's not dead. It's filled with seed.
- 3:13The potential is huge in there. So I could keep walking around
- 3:17and I could keep saying, oh, it's a problem.
- 3:19Oh, it didn't work out the way I thought.
- 3:21Oh, it was supposed to be this. But the truth is there's so many
- 3:24lessons in that. And every time I see a flower
- 3:26that died off and went to a seed head, I go, that's not actually
- 3:31what's happening. It's not dead.
- 3:33It's just not the way it was. And I look at the website like
- 3:36that, I say it's not where I want it to be, but it's not
- 3:40dead. It's not, it's not that it's not
- 3:42functioning. It's just changing.
- 3:45And this is part of understanding ourselves as the
- 3:48creatures we are, we, we have these constant needs to grow
- 3:52anyway. So we're always going to be
- 3:55evolving. Things are always going to be
- 3:56growing. Things are always going to be
- 3:57changing. And there's not a lot that if
- 4:00you're a growth mindset, you've heard me say this a bazillion
- 4:03times, you're going to keep doing this.
- 4:04So I'm not, I have no intention to give up on any of this.
- 4:09It's just recalibrating. It's a new school year.
- 4:12It's going back and looking at things slightly differently.
- 4:15It's taking on whatever nature is giving you and saying, OK,
- 4:21this is this is where I'm headed.
- 4:22This is the the space I need to go into thinking about it at
- 4:26this point in time. So rather than, you know, go
- 4:29into a state of overwhelm with it all, rather than get myself
- 4:32into a place where I'm completely like just, Oh my God,
- 4:36I got to can't believe I killed all those plants and this is and
- 4:39I didn't kill them. But I would think that because
- 4:41there's not great drainage over there.
- 4:43But they did really well all summer long.
