- 0:09SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry from that Jewish moment, and in each episode of Mystery Mirror, you will become a mystery person, place, or thing from the Jewish world.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: I'll give you clues in three rounds.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Round one, tricky clues, round two, getting closer, and round three, almost there.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Your mission is to guess who or what you are before the big reveal at the end.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Are you ready to look in the mystery mirror?
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Alright, detectives, let's begin.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Round one, you are a person.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: You lived a very, very long time ago, and you lived in a place called Ghat Hachaifer.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Your father's name was Amitai, and you had a very important job.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Your job was to deliver messages from God, from Hashem.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: And you lived during the time of a king named Yerevim.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: And there's a part of your life filled with adventure.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: There are many people named after you today.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Do you know who you are yet?
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Round two.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: You were a Navi, a prophet, and you lived in the northern kingdom of Israel.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: You were once given a message to go to a huge city and tell the people there to do something, but you really did not want to do it.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: So instead of going where you were told, you went in the opposite direction.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Now, do you have any idea of who you could be?
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Round three.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: You were sent to the city of Ninvei to tell the people to change their ways, but you tried to escape by boat, and then a huge storm came.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: You ended up in the sea, and you were swallowed by a huge fish.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: There you spent three days and three nights inside the fish and you prayed, and eventually the fish spit you out, and then you did go to Ninvei.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: And the people there listened to your warning and they changed their ways.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: And at the end of the story, you learned an important life lesson from a plant, a worm, and a hot wind.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: We read your story every year on Yom Kippur or Yom Kippur.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Now do you know who you are?
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Are you ready for the reveal?
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Look in the mirror.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: You are Yonah, also known as Jonah.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Mazl Tove, mystery solved.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Did you know Yonah means dove in Hebrew?
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: And at the end of the big flood, Noah sent out a Yonah, a dove.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Ninveh is a real ancient city found in modern day Iraq, and it was huge.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: In fact, the text tells us Ninveh was an enormously large city, a three days walk across.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: And we read the story of Yonah on Yom Kippur because it's a story of Teshuva fixing mistakes and also a story of prayer.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Get ready for game time.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Let's play.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Choose your own adventure.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: You're on a boat, heading in the opposite direction from where you're supposed to go, and suddenly, boom, a huge storm hits.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: The boat is rocking.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: The waves are crashing.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: People are shouting.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: What would you do?
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Would you grab onto the side of the boat and hold on real tight?
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Or would you run below the deck to find somewhere safer?
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: If you chose to grab the side of the boat, whoosh, a giant wave splashes right over your head and you are soaked.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: If you chose to race below deck, the boat rocks so hard that you go sliding across the floor.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: And either way, the sailors are trying everything they can think of to save the boat.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: And then they find you sleeping.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: How are you sleeping right now?
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: They wake you up and they ask you what's going on.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: What do you tell them?
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Do you tell them, don't worry, everything is going to be fine?
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Or do you say, okay, I actually might know why this is happening?
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: If you chose to tell them it'll be okay, they look at you like you're nuts because things are not okay.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: And if you tell them that you're running away from your mission, they get very concerned.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Either way, the storm gets worse.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: And you tell the sailors that the only way to calm the storm is to throw you into the sea, and they don't want to do that.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: But the storm gets worse.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: So it is time to go in the water.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: So last question: how do you go in?
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Do you have a bunch of sailors throw you in, or do you make a big jump into the water shouting cannonball?
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Either way, you hit the water, the storm stops, and then you hear glub, glub, glub, glub.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: And finally, you are swallowed whole.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Which leads us to your mystery mirror mission.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: Draw a picture or write a story about spending a few days inside a giant fish.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: What would you bring with you if you knew you were going to be there?
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: What would it be like to be inside a fish?
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: What would you do all day?
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Ask a grown up to send your story or picture to mirror at thatjewish moment.com.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Until next time.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Keep your minds sharp, detectives.
