Latest / Sri Aurobindo Studies / The Spiritual Consciousness Brings a Vast Peace as a Foundation for the Transformation of the Nature
Transcript
- 0:00The mind cannot adequately create, imagine, describe, or
- 0:06image the experience of the descent of peace and vastness
- 0:12that takes hold of the being and superimposes itself over the
- 0:16activities of the mind, life and body.
- 0:20Until one has the actual experience.
- 0:23Therefore, nothing specific can be said about it.
- 0:27When an individual has this experience, there is a strong
- 0:31pressure on the body, life, mind, complex, and if it is not
- 0:36adequately prepared to hold the energy, there is always an
- 0:40attempt to explain it, describe it or get insight about it.
- 0:46This is the characteristic action of the mind, trying to
- 0:50convert it into a symbolic representation that can be
- 0:54explained and expressed. The spiritual consciousness, as
- 1:00it begins to actively descend into a receptive individual,
- 1:04carries out its own development in its own way and time, and
- 1:09brings with it the atmosphere natural to its own state.
- 1:15The experience of the spiritual plane as it descends into the
- 1:19human instrument is a first stage, not a consummation.
- 1:24The peace, the connection to the vastness of the Universal
- 1:28Presence, are powers that support the slow process of
- 1:32change that comes about whenever a next phase of the evolution of
- 1:37consciousness begins to manifest and insert itself into the earth
- 1:42nature. The complete transformation
- 1:45involves overcoming long, embedded and fixed habits of
- 1:50body, life and mind that have developed over hundreds of
- 1:54millions or even billions of years in the earth nature
- 2:00uplifting and transforming them. A virtually endless patience is
- 2:06required. The first thing the spiritual
- 2:09consciousness provides, then, is the sense of peace and eternity
- 2:13that removes the vital and mental frustrations that would
- 2:17otherwise disrupt the process. Due to how slow and difficult
- 2:22the change process actually turns out to be.
- 2:27Triorobindo notes quote a great wave or sea of calm and the
- 2:34constant consciousness of a vast and luminous reality.
- 2:38This is precisely the character of the fundamental realization
- 2:43of the Supreme Truth in its first touch on the mind and the
- 2:48soul. One could not ask for a better
- 2:51beginning or foundation. It is like a rock on which the
- 2:55rest can be built. It means certainly not only a
- 2:59presence, but the presence, and it would be a great mistake to
- 3:04weaken the experience by any non acceptance or doubt of its
- 3:09character. It is not necessary to define
- 3:13it, and one ought not even to try to turn it into an image,
- 3:18for this presence is in its nature infinite.
- 3:22Whatever it has to manifest of itself or out of itself, it will
- 3:27do inevitably by its own power. If there is a sustained
- 3:32acceptance. It is quite true that it is a
- 3:37grace sent, and the only return needed for such a grace is
- 3:41acceptance, gratitude and to allow the power that has touched
- 3:46the consciousness to develop what has to be developed in the
- 3:50being by keeping oneself open to it.
- 3:54The total transformation of the nature cannot be done in a
- 3:58moment, It must take long and proceed through stages.
- 4:03What is now experienced is only an initiation, a foundation for
- 4:08the new consciousness in which that transformation will become
- 4:12possible. The automatic spontaneity of the
- 4:16experience ought by itself to show that it is nothing
- 4:20constructed by the mind, will, or emotions.
- 4:25It comes from a truth that is beyond them.
