- 0:47Speaker 1: Hello lovelies, an I hope you all are doing wonderful
- 0:54Speaker 1: and that you're enjoying the fall weather today. This episode
- 0:59Speaker 1: is pre recorded because I am currently in Vienna, Austria,
- 1:04Speaker 1: and since I'm in Austria, I thought I would share
- 1:07Speaker 1: two cases from Austria. Now, I am Terry True Crime
- 1:11Speaker 1: and Welcome to Midday Missing, where we highlight current missing
- 1:15Speaker 1: person cases that need more attention. We stream shows every
- 1:20Speaker 1: Monday and Wednesday. Hence why I pre recorded these, Because
- 1:24Speaker 1: these cases are so important that they still need to
- 1:28Speaker 1: be told even though I'm traveling. Now, I am going
- 1:33Speaker 1: to apologize upfront for my pronunciations. If you're new here,
- 1:38Speaker 1: this happens often and I'm really bad at it. Okay.
- 1:42Speaker 1: If you're not new here, then enjoy the laughs. I
- 1:46Speaker 1: am sure I will provide. So our first case is
- 1:51Speaker 1: Arian Gillern. Okay. On the evening of Monday, October twenty ninth,
- 1:57Speaker 1: two thousand and seven, Arian Michael John Gillern disappeared in Vienna, Austria.
- 2:04Speaker 1: At the time, he was working for the United Nations
- 2:07Speaker 1: Industrial Development Organation known as UNIDO, not Minido, but UNIDO now.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Arian was born on April twenty eighth, nineteen seventy three
- 2:21Speaker 1: in Elmira, New York, to his mother, Katherine Gilleran Now.
- 2:26Speaker 1: He graduated from Groton High School in nineteen ninety one,
- 2:30Speaker 1: then went on to earn a Bachelors of Arts in
- 2:33Speaker 1: theology from Sansiscan University of Steubenville in nineteen ninety seven.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Told you these are going to be some interesting words
- 2:42Speaker 1: I pronounce. They're about to get more fun. From there,
- 2:45Speaker 1: he studied at the Simony in graz Sekua, Austria, and
- 2:51Speaker 1: later returned to Steubenville to complete a Master's of Arts
- 2:55Speaker 1: in Theology in Christian Ministry in nineteen ninety nine. By
- 3:00Speaker 1: two thousand and three, Arian was in Vienna working as
- 3:03Speaker 1: a research a research assistant for Unido. Now. Outside of
- 3:09Speaker 1: his professional work, Arian was also well known in the community.
- 3:13Speaker 1: In two thousand and six, he was named mister Gay Austria.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not sharing pictures and slides today because
- 3:23Speaker 1: finding pictures of these gentlemen that we're going to talk
- 3:25Speaker 1: about today was impossible. So I tried to find it.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Maybe why I'm in Austria, I'll have better luck If so,
- 3:34Speaker 1: I will share it with you guys later. Now, just
- 3:39Speaker 1: weeks before his disappearance. In September two thousand and seven,
- 3:43Speaker 1: Arian visited his mother in Courtland, New York for ten days.
- 3:47Speaker 1: She was preparing to sell her home and moved to
- 3:50Speaker 1: Vienna to be closer to him. On October twenty seventh,
- 3:54Speaker 1: Catherine spoke to her son on the phone for the
- 3:57Speaker 1: last time, Catherine my Heart. On October thirty first, two
- 4:02Speaker 1: thousand and seven, Catherine received the phone call every parent
- 4:07Speaker 1: dreads Aaron was missing. Police accounts surrounding his disappearance have
- 4:13Speaker 1: been inconsistent. One version stated he was last seen running
- 4:18Speaker 1: naked from the Cousin Brundle Sauna and why Burgess after
- 4:25Speaker 1: an altercation where another man was allegedly taken to the hospital.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Another version claimed that his last confirmed location was a
- 4:34Speaker 1: sauna at Stephen Plots after work. I know how to
- 4:38Speaker 1: say Stephen Plots because I love the mirror Plots in Germany.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Now authorities suggested he may have been suicidal and jumped
- 4:48Speaker 1: into the Danaby River, but his friend's acquaintances and family
- 4:53Speaker 1: strongly dispute this idea. You know Aaron's mother and supporters
- 4:59Speaker 1: argue that the investigation was deeply flawed and hampered by bias.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Against his sexuality. I'm going to say, I'm going to
- 5:08Speaker 1: go with the mom. I trust the mom. Austrian police
- 5:12Speaker 1: statement shifted multiple times. They denied the presence of witnesses,
- 5:17Speaker 1: even though a couple had phoned them with information the
- 5:20Speaker 1: day after Aaron was declared missing. Initially, Austrian authorities even
- 5:27Speaker 1: refused to investigate, stating that it was not their duty
- 5:31Speaker 1: to handle the disappearance of a non citizens. Austrian authorities,
- 5:37Speaker 1: I'm here to tell you, if I go missing while
- 5:40Speaker 1: I'm in your country, please look for me, yes, please now.
- 5:46Speaker 1: When pressure mounted from the United Nations and the Austrian
- 5:50Speaker 1: Foreign Ministry, police finally opened an investigation, but still refused
- 5:55Speaker 1: to interview Aaron's mother or his friends. Okay, Austrian place,
- 6:02Speaker 1: I need to know why and if any of you,
- 6:05Speaker 1: or if I run into any police officers while I'm there,
- 6:08Speaker 1: I'm going to be asking you, guys, okay, because I
- 6:11Speaker 1: need to know. Since two thousand and eight, every year
- 6:14Speaker 1: on October twenty ninth, Aaron's mother has held a vigil
- 6:18Speaker 1: outside the kaser Brundle Sauna to mark the anniversary of
- 6:23Speaker 1: her son's disappearance. Guys, I really wished I was going
- 6:27Speaker 1: to be there on October twenty ninth, because I would
- 6:29Speaker 1: go now. In twenty eleven, the documentary Gone the Disappearance
- 6:36Speaker 1: of Aaron Gillarn premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, shining
- 6:41Speaker 1: light on his story in his mother's relentless search for answers.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Nearly two decades later, the case of Aaron Gillarn remains unsolved.
- 6:52Speaker 1: For his mother, Catherine, the fight for truth and justice continues. Catherine,
- 7:00Speaker 1: my heart goes out to you, and I'll keep my
- 7:04Speaker 1: eye open when I'm walking around. So next up we have.
- 7:11Speaker 1: On July nineteenth, nineteen ninety four, Austrian biologist Ernest Prisoner,
- 7:17Speaker 1: a Priestner, vanished in the mountains near Garmick, parting Kirchen, Germya.
- 7:24Speaker 1: He had gone out to check insect traps in the
- 7:27Speaker 1: area of the Flagger Sea and never returned. Now, despite
- 7:33Speaker 1: extensive search operations by mountain rescue teams, no trace of
- 7:38Speaker 1: him was ever found now. Ernest was born on May twelfth,
- 7:43Speaker 1: nineteen thirty four. He grew up in Klagenfurt, Austria, where
- 7:48Speaker 1: he attended high school before studying biology at the University
- 7:52Speaker 1: of Vienna. He earned his PhD in nineteen fifty nine,
- 7:57Speaker 1: working in the research group of Wilhelm who Knelt at
- 8:01Speaker 1: the Zoological Institute Wow these words. His career took him
- 8:07Speaker 1: to the University of Gottingen, then to Munich, where in
- 8:11Speaker 1: nineteen sixty three he joined the research group of Dietrich Schneider.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Two years later he followed Schneider to the Max Planck
- 8:20Speaker 1: Institute for Behavioral Psychology in Sea Wissen. By nineteen seventy four,
- 8:27Speaker 1: Prisoner was based at the University of Erlangen, devoting himself
- 8:32Speaker 1: to the study of insect pheromones. You heard me right.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Insect pheromones, particularly in clear wing moss also known as
- 8:43Speaker 1: a c. Stay cesiday Now. Prisoner was a pioneer in
- 8:48Speaker 1: the field of sex pheromones research. His work revolutionized how
- 8:54Speaker 1: scientists studied insect communication behavior, especially among hi ooh heyman
- 9:05Speaker 1: opters and butterflies ooh, don't come at me people. In
- 9:09Speaker 1: nineteen eighty three, he was awarded the gay LUSA Humboldt
- 9:13Speaker 1: Prize for his groundbreaking contributions. He developed a set of
- 9:18Speaker 1: twenty one synthetic pheromones capable of attracting nearly all types
- 9:24Speaker 1: of clear wing moths, leading to the discovery of several
- 9:28Speaker 1: new species. His methods and findings remain influential in entomology today.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I bet Grisom would have been a fan. What do
- 9:39Speaker 1: you think now? On July nineteenth, nineteen ninety four, Ernest
- 9:43Speaker 1: set out to check insect traps in the Bavarian Alps.
- 9:48Speaker 1: It was a routine task, something he had done many
- 9:51Speaker 1: times before this time, he did not return. When he
- 9:57Speaker 1: failed to come back, search efforts were a immediately launched.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Mountain rescue teams scoured the flagracy area, but despite multiple operations,
- 10:10Speaker 1: no sign of Earnest wherever found. It's been more than
- 10:14Speaker 1: thirty years and the disappearance of Ernest prisoner remains a mystery.
- 10:19Speaker 1: He was a brilliant scientist and a pioneer in his field.
- 10:24Speaker 1: He left behind not only important contributions to entomology, but
- 10:29Speaker 1: also unanswered questions about what happened in those mountains that day.
- 10:36Speaker 1: News outlets are so different in other countries and they
- 10:40Speaker 1: do not publish as much on these cases, so I
- 10:44Speaker 1: was only able to provide some limited information. But I
- 10:48Speaker 1: do think that it is important, no matter where the
- 10:51Speaker 1: person is missing from that their stories deserve to be heard.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Because guys I'm going to be traveling there, I find
- 11:00Speaker 1: meet one of these gentlemen. If I know about their story,
- 11:05Speaker 1: then maybe I can help. Okay, now for my tips today.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Since I'm in Austria for the next several days when
- 11:14Speaker 1: you're hearing this, I thought I would share some tips
- 11:17Speaker 1: I found online that I will be using while on
- 11:20Speaker 1: my visit. I am one of those people that before
- 11:23Speaker 1: I visit another country, especially when I've never been to,
- 11:27Speaker 1: I do my research. Okay, So public transportation is big
- 11:34Speaker 1: over there, Okay, vienn As you ban trams and buses
- 11:38Speaker 1: are said to be clean and efficient, but they are
- 11:42Speaker 1: also where pick pockets hang out. Yep. So they say
- 11:47Speaker 1: keep your bag zipped and in front of you, don't
- 11:50Speaker 1: carry your passport in your back pocket, and be especially
- 11:55Speaker 1: alert and crowded station like Carlsplatz and the Stevensplot. Yes, guys,
- 12:01Speaker 1: don't worry, I will be keeping it all close. Also,
- 12:06Speaker 1: protect your belongings in the tourist areas. Big attractions like
- 12:10Speaker 1: the Staint Stephen Cathedral, Stranbourne Palace and the noch Schmarked
- 12:16Speaker 1: draw big crowds, so they say stay away of your purse,
- 12:20Speaker 1: your backpack or your camera and use crossbody bags with
- 12:24Speaker 1: sippers and never hang them on the back of a chair.
- 12:28Speaker 1: At cafes, guys, I will be carrying my adorable little
- 12:34Speaker 1: backpack and I will be keeping it close to my body. Now.
- 12:39Speaker 1: They also say use the hotel safer passports and your
- 12:44Speaker 1: extra cash and your credit cards. Yes, that I recommend
- 12:49Speaker 1: doing everywhere. Also, if you're renting an apartment or an airbnb,
- 12:54Speaker 1: make sure doors and windows are locked before you head out.
- 12:58Speaker 1: I also purchased a travel carbon monoxide tester that you
- 13:04Speaker 1: just set out. It runs on battery and it will
- 13:07Speaker 1: let me know if there's any carbon monoxide leaking. I
- 13:10Speaker 1: decided to add that to my stuff because of hearing
- 13:15Speaker 1: of families and things happening in airbnb's and different things.
- 13:19Speaker 1: So I decided twenty dollars better to be safe right now.
- 13:25Speaker 1: They say Vienna is very safe after dark, but they
- 13:28Speaker 1: also say that means you shouldn't let your guard down.
- 13:31Speaker 1: So as always, I'm going to stick to Welllitch streets,
- 13:35Speaker 1: especially around the Girtle area. I'm not sure I'm going
- 13:38Speaker 1: to be in that area, but they say it can
- 13:41Speaker 1: get sketchy late at night, and yes, we know. I
- 13:44Speaker 1: like to go look for danger, but I'm not going
- 13:46Speaker 1: to go look for sketchy places, and to trust your instincts.
- 13:50Speaker 1: If an area fills off, take a different route. Luckily,
- 13:54Speaker 1: I will be in Austria with all of my coworkers,
- 13:58Speaker 1: and I can tell you I will not have a
- 14:01Speaker 1: moment of a loane time except for when I'm in
- 14:03Speaker 1: my room. We all love to hang out and we
- 14:06Speaker 1: all get along so well. Now. They also say only
- 14:11Speaker 1: use official taxis or ride apps okay. Do not get
- 14:16Speaker 1: in unmarked cars offering rides okay. They also say public
- 14:20Speaker 1: transportation does run late, but to know your route before
- 14:25Speaker 1: heading out because it may be different. Also, they recommend
- 14:31Speaker 1: using ATMs inside the banks, not the ones on the streets.
- 14:36Speaker 1: That makes sense. Also says to carry just what you
- 14:39Speaker 1: need for the day and to keep a backup card.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I always do that. I also do not store my
- 14:48Speaker 1: cards in my phone. Okay, I don't, so if I
- 14:51Speaker 1: lose my phone, I don't have to worry about any
- 14:53Speaker 1: of my apps. Also, like I mentioned the other day,
- 14:57Speaker 1: when traveling anywhere, I'm going to be downloading my maps
- 15:01Speaker 1: so I can find my way around. And just for
- 15:05Speaker 1: everybody to know, the emergency number is one one two
- 15:08Speaker 1: in Austria, so I'm going to have that. They also
- 15:13Speaker 1: say Vienna a stylish so skip the touristy outfits. As
- 15:19Speaker 1: I said the other day, me dressing more like the
- 15:22Speaker 1: locals will help me blend in. I don't know if
- 15:25Speaker 1: the locals they wear a lot of pink. Now I
- 15:29Speaker 1: am taking some black with me, so who knows. Maybe
- 15:34Speaker 1: I will have to stick to that. I don't know.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I'm just gonna have to wait and see when I
- 15:38Speaker 1: get there. But I do want to thank you all
- 15:41Speaker 1: for joining me today. I look forward to seeing you
- 15:44Speaker 1: again on Wednesday. It will be another pre recorded episode
- 15:51Speaker 1: as I will still be traveling, but I do want
- 15:54Speaker 1: to remind you all please join our Facebook group. This
- 15:58Speaker 1: is where we will post all of our missing person
- 16:00Speaker 1: posters as well as share other posters. Now Thursday night,
- 16:07Speaker 1: seven pm Central, True Crime a Wine Time is going
- 16:12Speaker 1: to be offering their weekly deep dive into a truly
- 16:15Speaker 1: shocking case. This week, Lama and a special co host
- 16:19Speaker 1: will cover the case of the storage Unit of Death,
- 16:23Speaker 1: a Tennessee horror Guys. I know nothing about that case,
- 16:29Speaker 1: and I am either going to try to listen when
- 16:32Speaker 1: they're live, or I will definitely be part of the
- 16:35Speaker 1: replay crew. So guys, until next time, please stay safe.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I'm making sure I stay safe, Stay aware as I am.
- 16:46Speaker 1: If you see something, say something, and most importantly, let's
- 16:52Speaker 1: help these families bring home their loved ones if we can. Okay, bye,
- 16:56Speaker 1: guys Back
