- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to a lily pad production. This is the
- 0:06Speaker 1: team up play show podcast. Welcome. To the City of Bones.
- 0:41Speaker 1: The day of the election has come and gone. You
- 0:45Speaker 1: guys know who the new mayor is going to be.
- 0:49Speaker 1: But I want to go back one night before. Before
- 0:54Speaker 1: you know this, before this has happened.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 0:57Speaker 1: To the night with the Wraith and finishing up the
- 1:02Speaker 1: meal with her. You just all saw on TV Stephen
- 1:05Speaker 1: Starr's show called True Babble. Love that show.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10Speaker 1: In which he was talking about the people's cry out
- 1:16Speaker 1: for the Soma Prince and how he wasn't showing up.
- 1:21Speaker 1: The Wraith downs the rest of her brandy and she
- 1:28Speaker 1: looks at all of you and just says well kids
- 1:34Speaker 1: uh thank you for having me and uh good luck
- 1:38Speaker 1: with your whatever you're trying to figure out um probably
- 1:43Speaker 1: won't hear from me again where will you go i
- 1:47Speaker 1: don't know i'm gonna leave this town see what's out
- 1:50Speaker 1: there you're going to america yeah maybe road trip I
- 1:58Speaker 1: need to find a vehicle, but yeah. Oh, I have one.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 2:02Speaker 1: I stole it.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Yeah, we took a car. I'm not very good at driving.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I hit a lot of stuff. You want it? Sure,
- 2:08Speaker 1: I'd take it. Here you go. I give her the
- 2:10Speaker 1: keys to the Frank. It's like a really nice, really
- 2:13Speaker 1: expensive car you stole from us.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Yeah, and it's parked halfway on the curb on top
- 2:20Speaker 4: of a fire hydrant.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Yeah, and no matter what, image you have in your mind, listeners,
- 2:27Speaker 1: because of my players, it is not a hot dog.
- 2:30Speaker 5: Yes. No, it's Susan Sarandon riding a hot dog listening
- 2:33Speaker 5: to America by Simon and Garfunkel as she leaves No
- 2:36Speaker 5: Man's Land.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Powerful image. It's a long, like, curvaceous car. Yeah, like
- 2:45Speaker 1: a hot dog. Yeah, like... The wheel wells are the buns.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Like early Batmobiles, like... You know what I'm saying. It's
- 2:54Speaker 1: got big old hubs, but it doesn't actually have wheels
- 2:57Speaker 1: because it's a hover car.
- 2:59Speaker 4: So it could, like, spin in place rotating like a
- 3:02Speaker 4: 7-Eleven hot dog.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Spin on a dime.
- 3:05Speaker 2: No, it can't go that way.
- 3:08Speaker 1: That's barrel roll. Yeah, it could barrel roll. No, why not? But, yeah,
- 3:12Speaker 1: you give the Wraith this car, and she says, I
- 3:15Speaker 1: don't even know if I can get this. I'll probably
- 3:17Speaker 1: have to find a car when I get over the wall.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I don't think there's a place to get out.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Fine.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Don't take my car. It's a nice gesture. I just
- 3:27Speaker 1: don't get mad. I've got an image in my mind
- 3:30Speaker 1: of you majestically riding a hot dog like Speed Racer. Fine,
- 3:35Speaker 1: I'll take it. I'll leave it at the wall if
- 3:37Speaker 1: you want to find it. Fair enough. Send us a postcard. Yeah.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I will not. Do we get those from the outside?
- 3:44Speaker 1: Just sign a postcard with my name.
- 3:48Speaker 3: I'll know.
- 3:49Speaker 5: Every once in a while, there'll just be a postcard
- 3:51Speaker 5: into the city that's like New York City and everyone's like,
- 3:54Speaker 5: this is what it looks like right now.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Jameer, the Wraith comes over to you, kind of just
- 4:00Speaker 1: gives you a little punch on the shoulder and just says,
- 4:07Speaker 1: thanks for coming to get me, kid. And sorry, I'm
- 4:10Speaker 1: not what you wanted me to be. Thank you for
- 4:15Speaker 1: having been what you were. Then your legend will never die.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Know that.
- 4:22Speaker 1: We'll take care of your guns. I'm taking my guns. Oh, okay.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Good luck with your war, kids. And she heads out.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Unless anyone has anything else to say.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I definitely want to leave her the last word. And
- 4:38Speaker 2: the wraith disappears into the night. She was very cool
- 4:52Speaker 2: and very sad.
- 4:53Speaker 1: One day, I hope we can be as cool and
- 4:56Speaker 1: sad as her.
- 4:57Speaker 2: That's what I was actually scared of.
- 5:01Speaker 1: You know? When you're afraid of how cool you'll become?
- 5:04Speaker 2: No, just how, like, lonely and depressed and, you know,
- 5:08Speaker 2: dark our futures might be in this job.
- 5:11Speaker 5: Hmm.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Let's keep an eye on each other, eh? You know?
- 5:19Speaker 1: Of course. That's all we do, right?
- 5:24Speaker 2: A lot of it.
- 5:26Speaker 1: We're in it together. Yeah. You're not getting rid of
- 5:31Speaker 1: me very easily. You guys have seen my inside brain dimension.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Now we have.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Yep.
- 5:41Speaker 1: That's... Yeah. If I could see yours, I would. I
- 5:48Speaker 1: think I can do that. Is that what we're doing now?
- 5:52Speaker 1: Should we? We should probably wait until after our war, right?
- 5:55Speaker 1: After the war. Yeah, after the war. Road trip to
- 5:57Speaker 1: Quanta's mind. Quanta immediately regrets revealing that she could do that.
- 6:04Speaker 2: I don't want to go to war.
- 6:05Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, you're right. After seeing the Wraith and How
- 6:14Speaker 5: and where she's ended up. This could really change us.
- 6:19Speaker 5: It's not going to be easy.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Jason is just going to eat food thinking about how
- 6:24Speaker 1: he's asked Manny to take his powers away. But say nothing.
- 6:29Speaker 1: So she loved Cordula but never saw her?
- 6:34Speaker 2: Nope. Not after she did what she thought she had
- 6:41Speaker 2: to do. Taking out her dad, she became a ghost.
- 6:48Speaker 2: And she stayed that way for all this time.
- 6:52Speaker 4: I get what it's like to sometimes have to push
- 6:54Speaker 4: away the people you care about. But she did it
- 6:57Speaker 4: for decades.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Decades. And she just lost her chance to ever tell
- 7:06Speaker 1: her just like that.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Exactly. Exactly.
- 7:11Speaker 5: I think I need to go home and hug my moms.
- 7:16Speaker 5: Before whatever happens tomorrow.
- 7:21Speaker 2: On a scale of one to four.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Wait, why?
- 7:30Speaker 2: Numbers pretty arbitrary being real, but like.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Can you make it five? So there's like a middle one.
- 7:38Speaker 2: We could do five. A hundred and five.
- 7:41Speaker 1: No, not an even number.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Mayor Henry Hilland. How screwed is this city? Less screwed
- 7:53Speaker 2: than before, I guess. You think? I mean, I think.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I think I think that, but.
- 8:00Speaker 5: I thought that too, but now knowing what we know
- 8:02Speaker 5: about Manny paying him.
- 8:06Speaker 2: It's almost more like a lateral move, you know, than
- 8:09Speaker 2: like a. half step up one bad to a different
- 8:14Speaker 2: flavor of bad. Well, sometimes that can be a palate cleanser.
- 8:18Speaker 4: I don't know. I, I met Mr. Allen at Arthur's
- 8:21Speaker 4: funeral and he didn't seem completely evil in the way that,
- 8:26Speaker 4: you know, I was getting big evil vibes from mayor Steffensen.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Oh, for sure. Yeah. He kind of led with evil.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Yeah. He like had like a, black aura around him
- 8:38Speaker 1: all the time. Entered the room with evil. Yeah.
- 8:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Helen's sneaky though. And he doesn't even believe in new Babel,
- 8:48Speaker 2: you know, like he's, I mean, I don't know.
- 8:52Speaker 1: He's very handsome.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Yeah. That's a big part of what got him the job.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I'm afraid. And also those true America gang nuts, even
- 9:03Speaker 2: though he claims he doesn't, you know, work with them
- 9:08Speaker 2: they helped him get at this spot and he didn't
- 9:11Speaker 2: give them enough hope I guess I don't know I'm
- 9:15Speaker 2: worried I thought I thought we knew Manny.
- 9:21Speaker 5: Me too and you know honestly now after my talk
- 9:24Speaker 5: with Cassandra it does make me wonder what would happen
- 9:30Speaker 5: if we were let out if America was let.
- 9:34Speaker 2: In New Babel wouldn't be New Babel anymore.
- 9:39Speaker 1: And you all know what the next day holds. Henry
- 9:42Speaker 1: Hilland is sworn in as mayor. We're going to do
- 9:47Speaker 1: some downtime here. Ooh, spicy picante. I think we need
- 9:55Speaker 1: to come up with a new name other than downtime
- 9:57Speaker 1: because it's so active. Uptime. up time time before we
- 10:04Speaker 1: enter downtime you guys can do three rests because it's
- 10:09Speaker 1: been about three days since you came out of Jason's
- 10:13Speaker 1: chest book world I think that has the perfect name.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Chest book world. Chest book world. Chest book world. You've
- 10:22Speaker 1: been living in your chest book world.
- 10:26Speaker 5: I'm just going to roll all my D6s at the
- 10:28Speaker 5: same time then for HP and all my D4s for energy.
- 10:32Speaker 2: I'm topped off, guys.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Everything's back to full. Very good. Crazy.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Feels good. I don't burn EPs like you guys do.
- 10:42Speaker 1: I need to get stronger. Yeah, you got to start
- 10:45Speaker 1: siphoning more juice from people.
- 10:47Speaker 5: I'm topped on HP, but I'm still missing a lot
- 10:51Speaker 5: of energy.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Before we jump into downtime, here is the state of
- 10:56Speaker 1: the city. This is going to be a two-week period,
- 10:59Speaker 1: and these are the things that go on. So they
- 11:01Speaker 1: might influence some of your choices for downtime.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Okay.
- 11:04Speaker 1: This downtime is going to be a little bit unique.
- 11:06Speaker 1: We're going to absolutely blast through the first three things. rest, training,
- 11:11Speaker 1: and patrol, just so I get those numbers in my head.
- 11:14Speaker 5: Okay.
- 11:15Speaker 1: And just in case anything you guys want to do
- 11:17Speaker 1: special for that.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Okay.
- 11:18Speaker 1: But we're going to blast through those. Then we're going
- 11:20Speaker 1: to do thread chasing first, just because I feel like
- 11:23Speaker 1: with all the new information, we're at a thread chasing point.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:27Speaker 1: And then we'll finish up with unmasked life. Okay.
- 11:30Speaker 5: Cool.
- 11:30Speaker 1: But here is the state of the city. These are
- 11:32Speaker 1: the events that do happen no matter what you guys
- 11:36Speaker 1: do in the next couple weeks.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Okay.
- 11:39Speaker 1: There is a new mayor, and he gets to work
- 11:42Speaker 1: right away, fulfilling his campaign promises. He unites and organizes
- 11:47Speaker 1: the police. He calls for every last officer down to
- 11:51Speaker 1: the lowliest clerk and interrogates them all. Any who don't
- 11:57Speaker 1: show up are arrested immediately. He arrests dozens more, many
- 12:03Speaker 1: from Kono, who are found to have been on the take.
- 12:07Speaker 1: With a united population, police force, they take back City Hall.
- 12:11Speaker 1: They arrest most of the True American gang and lead
- 12:14Speaker 1: a job-giving initiative to clean up downtown, making it the
- 12:17Speaker 1: beautiful center of the city again. From all of this chaos,
- 12:21Speaker 1: there is a strange image taken of Thunderfist Ron, who
- 12:25Speaker 1: was never on the take, and Elaine Akira, who was
- 12:28Speaker 1: never on the take, shaking hands with each other and
- 12:31Speaker 1: then shaking hands with the mayor and backing and supporting
- 12:35Speaker 1: his initiatives. Wait, Thunderfist Ron wasn't corrupt? No. That's huge news.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:42Speaker 5: Weird.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I always made that clear. He was just a piece
- 12:46Speaker 1: of shit. He's just a piece of shit. Okay. But
- 12:49Speaker 1: he was never like on the take. He was never
- 12:51Speaker 1: in with the politicians or the mob. All right. Different
- 12:54Speaker 1: kind of piece of shit.
- 12:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:57Speaker 1: There's many kinds of pieces of shit out there. Firm.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Soft. Soft.
- 13:02Speaker 1: True. That's it. Sloppy. You sloppy piece of shit.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Nugget.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Ooh, yeah.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Popcorn chicken.
- 13:12Speaker 1: You popcorn chicken piece of shit. He quickly makes it
- 13:19Speaker 1: law that the United States tender be accepted by all
- 13:22Speaker 1: shops and stores. Chicken tender? He continues to give significant
- 13:27Speaker 1: bonuses to people who exchange their own cash to the
- 13:31Speaker 1: American people. mint he also plans and begins an initiative
- 13:35Speaker 1: to bolster small business in the city there is so
- 13:38Speaker 1: much wealth and he tries to use the mayor's stash
- 13:40Speaker 1: to give the people an opportunity to build their own
- 13:44Speaker 1: he changes the law of no alcohol past seven or
- 13:47Speaker 1: on weekends he says that's dumb why are we doing
- 13:50Speaker 1: this and changes it.
- 13:52Speaker 5: All right just turning over a world building thing we
- 13:54Speaker 5: did 50 weeks ago it's.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Fine With the United and organized and off-the-take police force
- 14:01Speaker 1: in check, you guys notice if you do some patrol,
- 14:05Speaker 1: the streets quiet down considerably. You find yourselves rushing to
- 14:10Speaker 1: banks and store robberies to find the police already there
- 14:14Speaker 1: or getting there at the same time. About a week in,
- 14:17Speaker 1: he brings in an ambassador from the United States. Whoa.
- 14:22Speaker 1: The ambassador is Devin Sandell. Devin enters New Babel with
- 14:27Speaker 1: a staggering number of trucks with goods. The trucks are
- 14:31Speaker 1: guarded by masked gunmen. He does this with great pomp
- 14:37Speaker 1: and circumstance. The crowd cheers for the American aid. There
- 14:42Speaker 1: is abundant food, money, and materials to fix and build
- 14:45Speaker 1: new infrastructure. Skilled workers come with him for important projects.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Oh shit, there's a Shrek 2? You guys find out
- 14:53Speaker 1: there's a Shrek 2. I begrudgingly get one and watch it.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Oh my god. Or listen to it. Shrek's a book, right?
- 15:00Speaker 1: Did we say Shrek's a book? No, Monsters, Inc. is
- 15:02Speaker 1: a book. Shrek's a book in real life.
- 15:05Speaker 3: It is? Yeah.
- 15:07Speaker 1: You just blew my mind.
- 15:08Speaker 4: I think Shrek 2 is just based on the movie.
- 15:11Speaker 4: And loosely based on the song Holding Out for a Hero.
- 15:15Speaker 1: It's fine with me. It's a great moment. The amount
- 15:17Speaker 1: of aid brought in by the American ambassador is immense.
- 15:21Speaker 1: And the people of New Babel act as though it
- 15:24Speaker 1: is finally raining after a hundred year drought. And maybe
- 15:28Speaker 1: you're right. This is your city. What do our heroes
- 15:33Speaker 1: get up to for the first two weeks of Henry
- 15:36Speaker 1: Hillen's mayoral ship? Mayor ship? While these things are taking place.
- 15:43Speaker 1: And we're going to jump into a period of downtime
- 15:45Speaker 1: if you guys want to put in your numbers. Fucking nah.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Zeros across the board. Don't do shit.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Not even resting.
- 15:58Speaker 1: No rest. I'm just doom scrolling. Don't stare at the wall.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Doom scrolling, says Ben. All right, let's do rest. I
- 16:06Speaker 1: did four. Three. Zero.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Whoa.
- 16:10Speaker 1: All right, you guys are hanging out. You're watching a
- 16:14Speaker 1: lot of Shrek 2. We should probably rewind it and
- 16:17Speaker 1: watch it again. Yeah, just because it sucked so hard.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Gotta see all the parts.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Stallion, baby!
- 16:22Speaker 1: Yeah, that's... In boots. In boots. Sexy chauffeur Kyle.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Great film. Great sequel.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Far, far away. And I'm topped off on HP.
- 16:48Speaker 5: This is all for so I can roll 4d4s to
- 16:51Speaker 5: try to get my energy back.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Yeah. Same here pretty much. I'm mostly topped back up
- 16:56Speaker 1: for energy. I think I did it. I rolled 11.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I think that might be what I needed to get
- 17:03Speaker 1: back up.
- 17:04Speaker 2: All right. Respect.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Training. What are we doing for training, y'all? Zero.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Four. Whoa!
- 17:14Speaker 1: Vegemite!
- 17:17Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Rigel, what are you primarily doing for training?
- 17:20Speaker 2: Rigel is preparing for war. I am, yeah, I'm spending
- 17:26Speaker 2: a lot of time, again, as you said, like, quick
- 17:30Speaker 2: patrols show that, like, the city's calmed down. There was
- 17:33Speaker 2: a lot of chaos and fighting and action, and there's
- 17:36Speaker 2: a breath. But Rigel is vigilant. And I'm doing a
- 17:42Speaker 2: lot of punching in the desert. I'm doing a lot
- 17:47Speaker 2: of flight star stuff. Flight star training in the upper atmosphere.
- 17:52Speaker 2: People will see sparks and shooting stars high above the city.
- 17:57Speaker 2: And I'm also working on, again, controlling better and better
- 18:03Speaker 2: and focusing my magic blasts and even trying to prepare
- 18:09Speaker 2: some sort of ultimate attack. Nice.
- 18:14Speaker 5: Nice.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Jackie will work with you, giving Jackie another. You've trained
- 18:20Speaker 1: a lot with her the past two down times. Yeah.
- 18:22Speaker 1: So this will give her a level.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Hey.
- 18:25Speaker 1: She'll go from two to three. Jackie. Which is important
- 18:30Speaker 1: for what might come. Jackie levels up. And you get
- 18:35Speaker 1: four points, Jameer, for power points to add to attack
- 18:41Speaker 1: or defense rolls.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Okay. Thank you.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Thank you. You're welcome. You two are mostly resting, watching
- 18:50Speaker 1: Shrek while Jameer, you hear Jameer in the upper atmosphere
- 18:55Speaker 1: breaking the sound barrier with his flight stars. Shrek 3D? Yeah.
- 19:01Speaker 7: I was just going to say, I wish we could
- 19:03Speaker 7: keep it down out there. For the real ball knowers
- 19:05Speaker 7: out there, Shrek 3D.
- 19:07Speaker 2: I had that DVD.
- 19:10Speaker 1: The real ballers.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Ball knowers. You got to have knowledge.
- 19:15Speaker 4: I'm imagining that all of the 3D converted stuff to
- 19:19Speaker 4: New Babel is just displaying a double image.
- 19:21Speaker 7: Like it doesn't work on our cubes, right? So it's like,
- 19:24Speaker 7: this movie's blurry. Some movies are blurry, right? Some movies
- 19:28Speaker 7: are just blurry. My eyes hurt, but it's worth it.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Patrol. What are we doing for patrol? One.
- 19:36Speaker 3: One.
- 19:36Speaker 2: One. Okay.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Everybody gives a one. Thanks to your little hint. Yeah,
- 19:42Speaker 1: like I said, you do fly the streets and the
- 19:45Speaker 1: people as of now are still cheering your name. You've
- 19:48Speaker 1: just come back from something. and you still have the
- 19:52Speaker 1: public's love. And you do solve, you know, not solve,
- 19:57Speaker 1: but you stop a crime here or there. Solve some crimes.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Get a cat down from a tree here or there.
- 20:04Speaker 1: But you're primarily focused on other things.
- 20:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 20:07Speaker 1: You again.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Uh-oh.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Is there anything specific you guys are patrolling, any areas
- 20:12Speaker 1: you're patrolling specifically to try to gain any information? I
- 20:15Speaker 1: have one.
- 20:15Speaker 4: I'm hoping, weirdly, it might feed into unmasked time, but
- 20:21Speaker 4: I think some of my time is going to be
- 20:24Speaker 4: split between talking to Paige, who's in a coma, and
- 20:26Speaker 4: talking to the fire slug. The fire slug egg just, like,
- 20:32Speaker 4: masked up patrolling down there and, like, talking to it.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Yeah. What do you say to the fire slug? Then
- 20:37Speaker 1: we'll do the Paige one. Sure, yeah. Hey, it's me again.
- 20:41Speaker 1: I just wanted to say I'm sorry. I know you
- 20:47Speaker 1: probably don't like me very much and you're going to
- 20:51Speaker 1: turn into like a giant mothra or something and try
- 20:53Speaker 1: and kill us. But before then, you know, I just
- 20:55Speaker 1: want you to know I didn't mean to kill your dad.
- 21:01Speaker 1: And I now know that it was me doing it.
- 21:08Speaker 1: And you did it back to me, and I know
- 21:12Speaker 1: how it feels, and I'm just really sorry. Ow, ow, ow, ow.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Can't touch it.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Ow.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Still too hot.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Ow.
- 21:22Speaker 7: It's okay.
- 21:24Speaker 2: You speak into the depths of the city as this
- 21:31Speaker 2: egg or cocoon with magma veins just pulses back at you.
- 21:37Speaker 1: No one or nothing hearing you but the darkness. And
- 21:42Speaker 1: maybe Lucy, if she's around. Scurrying in the background. Giant
- 21:49Speaker 1: spider somewhere.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Rigel's going to definitely, with the absence of the Wraith,
- 21:57Speaker 2: Rigel's going to focus on just what happened with Cordula.
- 22:01Speaker 2: I'm going to be in the chute. Spend lots of
- 22:03Speaker 2: chute patrol time. Want to make my presence known. Known
- 22:08Speaker 2: and felt, the chute has not been left alone. There's
- 22:13Speaker 2: still people protecting the chute and those who love it.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Yeah, roll a sense check, Jameer, as you patrol the
- 22:24Speaker 1: station and the chute.
- 22:26Speaker 2: It's a three. A three.
- 22:28Speaker 1: This is a basic check. I'm rolling a D4.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Okay.
- 22:31Speaker 1: I rolled a three. You tie, you cry. You tie,
- 22:34Speaker 1: you cry. On a tie, Jameer, you do notice that
- 22:39Speaker 1: the core gang itself is kind of in shambles. The
- 22:46Speaker 1: Wraith has done her work well enough that the police
- 22:53Speaker 1: are still afraid to come to the shoot. But the
- 22:57Speaker 1: core gang itself would not be ready for them. Would
- 23:01Speaker 1: not be ready for... any kind of attack from a
- 23:06Speaker 1: different gang. They are despot. And I think another thing
- 23:10Speaker 1: you all notice, even with the one to patrol, is
- 23:13Speaker 1: that the same is pretty much true with the rest
- 23:15Speaker 1: of the gangs. The police are efficient, they are organized,
- 23:20Speaker 1: and the gangs are not, and they have no leadership.
- 23:24Speaker 1: And so... I don't even know this city anymore. Yeah,
- 23:28Speaker 1: it feels very strange.
- 23:30Speaker 5: Yes, I would love to as we're solving our crimes
- 23:32Speaker 5: and rescuing cats and saving crimes.
- 23:36Speaker 1: What's the word? Stopping.
- 23:38Speaker 5: Stopping crimes.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Stopping crimes. Preventing crimes.
- 23:42Speaker 5: I want to be always scanning people. I want to
- 23:47Speaker 5: have practiced and found... like a signature for that drug combination.
- 23:55Speaker 5: So maybe even like visiting the morgue for the, for
- 23:59Speaker 5: the dead gang. So I can like sense what that
- 24:03Speaker 5: could look like. I mean, they're dead. So it's probably,
- 24:06Speaker 5: it's probably hard because they don't have it actually moving
- 24:08Speaker 5: through their system. But I want to recognize what that
- 24:11Speaker 5: signature is and be looking for it in people. And
- 24:15Speaker 5: then also whenever I can, like checking CCTV for that
- 24:20Speaker 5: similar thing, like, ovular light and just kind of in
- 24:25Speaker 5: the background be monitoring for that same kind of event.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Okay. For a one, you're asking for a lot.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:35Speaker 1: But I'll let you roll big.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Ooh. Okay.
- 24:39Speaker 1: So it'll be like a very difficult investigation check to
- 24:43Speaker 1: try to do what you're doing with a one, with
- 24:46Speaker 1: as much time as you're committing.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:48Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 24:48Speaker 1: So... Yeah, I'm just like, it's on the mind as
- 24:50Speaker 1: we're going around. This will be a godly investigation check.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:56Speaker 1: So it will cost you one energy from your sense.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Excuse me, from your scan. I rolled 11. Ooh, I actually,
- 25:05Speaker 1: I could. I'm rolling 2d6s. I rolled an 8.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Not bad.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Not bad. You do your patrol. You gain... what you
- 25:14Speaker 1: think might be like a signature for what the poison
- 25:16Speaker 1: does to the electrical signals in someone's body. You don't
- 25:21Speaker 1: find it anywhere else. And then the other thing you
- 25:23Speaker 1: wanted was? Looking for the ovular light.
- 25:26Speaker 5: Any time where like I'm going in to look at
- 25:30Speaker 5: CCTV or hacking.
- 25:32Speaker 1: If you want anything else for that, you're going to
- 25:34Speaker 1: have to do it on your thread chasing or something.
- 25:38Speaker 1: You don't see anything with your patrol. Okay, gamers, thread chasing.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Let's dive in. What do you guys give to thread chasing?
- 25:47Speaker 2: Two.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Three.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Three. Okay, Jason, what do you want to do for
- 25:54Speaker 2: thread chasing? Yeah, I want to dig into the cold case.
- 25:59Speaker 2: I want to do some detective work, see if I
- 26:02Speaker 2: can follow up on that case that Elaine mentioned. And
- 26:07Speaker 2: I think that's really the main.
- 26:10Speaker 4: It sounds like there's not a ton of other crime stuff.
- 26:13Speaker 4: I've already kind of checked on the fire slug and patrol.
- 26:15Speaker 4: I want to get to the bottom of where this
- 26:19Speaker 4: drug came from if there's any other clues to begin
- 26:21Speaker 4: from the cold case.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Okay. Does anyone else have that on their list?
- 26:25Speaker 5: I mean, I was going to keep going with the
- 26:27Speaker 5: like looking into what happened. So I don't know if
- 26:29Speaker 5: that would be. It's probably separate if I'm looking for
- 26:32Speaker 5: the light.
- 26:33Speaker 1: I did not have that. So we could put this
- 26:35Speaker 1: under the category of like solving the murder of the
- 26:38Speaker 1: crime lords.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Okay. Sure.
- 26:39Speaker 1: So if you both put that on there, that's fine. Jameer,
- 26:42Speaker 1: was that on your list or no? Yeah. Okay, yeah.
- 26:44Speaker 1: So the three of you together can kind of follow
- 26:47Speaker 1: whichever leads you want to as one point here for threads. Okay. So, Jameer,
- 26:53Speaker 1: what was your thought?
- 26:55Speaker 2: My thought was looking at who's standing, mostly being Ellington,
- 27:03Speaker 2: trying to figure out if there's any connection, any paper trail.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Especially related to my sister. Somehow, maybe. Between this company
- 27:14Speaker 2: and these deaths. Okay.
- 27:16Speaker 4: I wouldn't, since I put two, I wouldn't, I can
- 27:19Speaker 4: throw my other point at just Manny Ellington in general, too,
- 27:23Speaker 4: if that helps.
- 27:24Speaker 3: Sure.
- 27:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I had talking to Dirk about what he might
- 27:28Speaker 5: remember about the Ellingtons from his time.
- 27:30Speaker 1: So that could be a separate category. Cool. Where do
- 27:35Speaker 1: we want to begin? I think cold case, that's fun. Yeah,
- 27:38Speaker 1: it's fun. Just like pizza, better when it's cold. Oh,
- 27:43Speaker 1: that's good. It's pretty good. Quanta takes a hit off
- 27:47Speaker 1: of Jason's cigarette.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Quanta, it's terrible for you.
- 27:53Speaker 1: There's worse things for us. So yeah, we'll head to the,
- 27:57Speaker 1: I guess the police station would have files that we
- 28:00Speaker 1: can score for cold case. Yeah, Elaine can give you
- 28:04Speaker 1: the files, certainly.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Gimme.
- 28:06Speaker 1: You get the files. You take them back. You see
- 28:10Speaker 1: an image.
- 28:12Speaker 2: The pictures that were taken are of a fancy room
- 28:16Speaker 2: in uptown Kono in a hotel, in a nice hotel
- 28:21Speaker 2: up in Kono. There is open champagne spilled on the floor.
- 28:26Speaker 2: There are sheets of the bed all amok, scattered around
- 28:31Speaker 2: the room.
- 28:33Speaker 1: And then there are two figures in the bed. neither
- 28:35Speaker 1: of them clothed, and there are pictures of this scene,
- 28:40Speaker 1: of this room. There are no wounds on the bodies.
- 28:44Speaker 1: You can do like a quick paper observation of the
- 28:50Speaker 1: files just as if you were reading them. You don't
- 28:52Speaker 1: even need to roll. But here's what you gain. Darren
- 28:56Speaker 1: Pachowski found dead with likely a forbidden lover, a Jane Doe,
- 29:02Speaker 1: There is no sign of their murder. Doctors say they
- 29:05Speaker 1: died of a toxin in their bloodstream, a toxin not
- 29:08Speaker 1: readily available in our biome. That's the very, like, stark
- 29:13Speaker 1: kind of findings about the case. When was this, did
- 29:18Speaker 1: you say? The when. I didn't say it. The when
- 29:21Speaker 1: is important. The when would have been 30-ish years ago.
- 29:24Speaker 1: 30 to 40 years ago at some point.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Okay. Okay.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Any living relatives of Pachowski if we don't have any
- 29:36Speaker 1: names for Jane Doe? It does say Darren Pachowski. uh
- 29:41Speaker 1: survived by his wife and two children linda and the
- 29:46Speaker 1: children are not named anything else on darren pachowski here
- 29:52Speaker 1: in this file or This just has all his human stats,
- 29:56Speaker 1: his weight, his height, his eye color. And you don't
- 29:58Speaker 1: want to tell us this? Not really. I mean, I can't.
- 30:00Speaker 1: He's 30 to 40 feet tall. Yeah, he used to know.
- 30:04Speaker 1: 30 to 40 years ago. That's a huge range. Well,
- 30:08Speaker 1: we're not in a specific date. We're not in a
- 30:12Speaker 1: specific date in the present, so it would be hard
- 30:16Speaker 1: to exactly pin down. That's fine. You get what I'm saying.
- 30:18Speaker 1: I'm just giving you shit. It's fine.
- 30:19Speaker 2: But no, it has an exact date. I just don't
- 30:22Speaker 2: have an exact date. You know what I'm saying.
- 30:26Speaker 1: We're not, we're not historians. No, we're not scientists. We're
- 30:31Speaker 1: not historians. Let me, let me do this just real
- 30:33Speaker 1: quick too. Does anything seem unusual?
- 30:37Speaker 3: What?
- 30:37Speaker 1: Ben's a historian. Yeah. And he can't bring that in.
- 30:43Speaker 1: So he's not allowed to know.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Um, Is there anything unusual or of note about the
- 30:50Speaker 4: actual physical files or photos? Has any of this changed,
- 30:54Speaker 4: tampered with, seem unusual, not standard?
- 30:59Speaker 1: Great question. Ooh. A paper question. It's a paper question,
- 31:05Speaker 1: and for that we'll need a paper answer.
- 31:10Speaker 4: Just write down what it is and slide it to me.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Great audio. Yeah. Yeah, we just silently... Interesting. I've got
- 31:20Speaker 1: a number for you of his exact weight. Hang on.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Let me slide it across the table. Oh, 184 pounds. Okay.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Great audio.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Roll an investigation check with your paper sense, Phantom.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Come on. I don't know if it really works with
- 31:35Speaker 1: paper sense. This is what you're built for, goddammit. It's
- 31:40Speaker 1: like I was made for this. Come on, pee-pee. This
- 31:43Speaker 1: is a difficult check. I'm rolling a D12. I rolled
- 31:48Speaker 1: a six. I got an 11.
- 31:49Speaker 7: Yeah!
- 31:50Speaker 2: Crushed it.
- 31:52Speaker 1: There is a page that is missing. Not ripped out
- 31:56Speaker 1: because it's just loose leaves of paper. When it was collated,
- 32:01Speaker 1: I could tell. Yes, you could tell where it's supposed
- 32:05Speaker 1: to be and the fact that it's not there. The page,
- 32:09Speaker 1: I'll even say with that amount of success... you beat
- 32:12Speaker 1: me by five, you do see a picture, the imprint
- 32:17Speaker 1: of like a picture in the top and then some information.
- 32:23Speaker 1: You can't read any of it.
- 32:24Speaker 2: You can't see the picture specifically, but it does seem
- 32:27Speaker 2: like it might be the woman's face.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Ooh, interesting. Redacted, taken away.
- 32:33Speaker 4: They thought I wouldn't be able to tell that they
- 32:36Speaker 4: took the staple out and put a new staple in,
- 32:39Speaker 4: but I knew.
- 32:40Speaker 3: Paper phantom what was that i need a hero on
- 32:46Speaker 3: my tummy watching there won't be much information here about
- 32:51Speaker 3: who darren pachowski was specifically but that would certainly be
- 32:55Speaker 3: a record of could certainly be a record in like
- 32:59Speaker 3: old newspaper clippings potentially I will say the document also
- 33:03Speaker 3: says that he was a high-profile picture and that there would.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Have been, excuse me. A scandal. He's a high-profile figure,
- 33:11Speaker 1: and there would have been stories about this in old paper, certainly. Interesting.
- 33:18Speaker 1: All right.
- 33:18Speaker 4: Am I allowed to do anything else here, or do
- 33:19Speaker 4: we need to jump away to some other stuff?
- 33:23Speaker 1: If you want to keep running with the Darren thing,
- 33:25Speaker 1: you can try to find newspaper articles if you want. Yeah,
- 33:30Speaker 1: why not?
- 33:31Speaker 4: Well, yeah, I guess the question is, do we, you know,
- 33:33Speaker 4: and we can be watching Shrek 2 while we have
- 33:35Speaker 4: this conversation.
- 33:37Speaker 1: Thank God. It's just always on. It's always on now.
- 33:39Speaker 1: In the nest. In like that community room down.
- 33:43Speaker 4: In the nest. Yeah, the question is, do we want
- 33:46Speaker 4: to keep looking into Darren Pachowski via, it sounds like
- 33:50Speaker 4: he's got living relatives. We could talk to people or
- 33:54Speaker 4: I can see if we can figure out who the
- 33:56Speaker 4: woman was in the photo. But even if we see
- 33:59Speaker 4: her face, that might not tell us anything. Unless we
- 34:02Speaker 4: recognize her. And we weren't alive 30 to 40 years ago, so. No,
- 34:08Speaker 4: but I trust what you can do with some paper. Yeah,
- 34:11Speaker 4: get me in front of some microfiche and some newspaper.
- 34:14Speaker 4: I mean, I can go back to the library and
- 34:17Speaker 4: try and plug away at it.
- 34:18Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 34:19Speaker 1: See if anything's left at the university. I mean, anything
- 34:23Speaker 1: to keep me from having to talk to people. That
- 34:26Speaker 1: seems like a bad idea. Yeah.
- 34:28Speaker 4: But if you want, that's his wife's name is Linda.
- 34:31Speaker 4: He's got two kids. They're probably, I can find them
- 34:33Speaker 4: in the phone book. Yeah, I mean, Rigel and I
- 34:36Speaker 4: could go talk to them.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Yeah, point us in the right direction.
- 34:40Speaker 1: I put my hand on a phone book. Yeah, Linda
- 34:44Speaker 1: Pachowski lives in Koso. I just point. Oh, I think
- 34:51Speaker 1: he's pointing towards Koso. Good boy. Jason, use your words, man.
- 34:57Speaker 4: I'm just like, my eyes are rolled back in my
- 34:59Speaker 4: head as I touch the phone book. So much useless information.
- 35:02Speaker 1: So many ads. Cool, yeah.
- 35:05Speaker 4: So I'll send you guys on your way if you
- 35:06Speaker 4: want to head to Linda's and I'll see if we
- 35:08Speaker 4: can divide and conquer. I'll look through the papers to
- 35:11Speaker 4: see if I can produce a photo of the mistress.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Okay, Phantom, we'll have your role first. Go down to
- 35:22Speaker 1: the archives again in NBTU. You're looking for this specific
- 35:27Speaker 1: information while you're here, we can kind of do, if
- 35:31Speaker 1: you're looking for anything else, we can broaden your scope
- 35:34Speaker 1: a little bit. I know there's a lot going on.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Sure.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Or we can do a lower check for this specific thing.
- 35:40Speaker 4: I would say, I mean, we're going to move on
- 35:43Speaker 4: to researching Manny and the Ellingtons and seeing if we
- 35:48Speaker 4: could figure that out. So that'd be the only other
- 35:49Speaker 4: thing I would want to tack on is if there's
- 35:52Speaker 4: other pieces of information regarding the, uh, the Ellington line.
- 35:58Speaker 4: If there's any newspaper article, I mean, I'm sure there's lots,
- 36:02Speaker 4: but I guess specifically surrounding Adam and Manny, like looking
- 36:07Speaker 4: for birth records, death certificates, like that kind of like,
- 36:10Speaker 4: what are these guys?
- 36:13Speaker 1: The same guy. What's the deal?
- 36:16Speaker 2: Great.
- 36:17Speaker 1: So that would be what the, what I'd be looking
- 36:18Speaker 1: for in addition to anything on this woman. Okay. That'll
- 36:21Speaker 1: boost it up to a D an Epic check, which
- 36:24Speaker 1: is a D 20. So I'm rolling a d20. And
- 36:28Speaker 1: for you, I'll have an investigation check plus your paper cents.
- 36:34Speaker 1: I rolled 15. Any chance I could use knowledge instead
- 36:39Speaker 1: of investigation? I don't think so. These are things you
- 36:43Speaker 1: do not yet know, but you are trying to learn.
- 36:47Speaker 1: You feel me? I feel ya. I'm rolling a d8
- 36:50Speaker 1: and a d6. That's pretty good. I think I can
- 36:54Speaker 1: only get a 14. How close can I fail? I
- 36:58Speaker 1: got an 11. Nice. Not bad. So I'll say you
- 37:01Speaker 1: don't find anything on the Ellingtons. You'll have to save
- 37:03Speaker 1: that for figuring out the Ellington stuff with the others.
- 37:07Speaker 1: But I'll say you do find stuff about Darren Pachowski.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Darren Pachowski, at the time of his death, was a
- 37:15Speaker 1: city council member. The police could not prove their theory.
- 37:21Speaker 1: But he, Darren Pajowski, was an ardent fighter for anti-shoot politics.
- 37:34Speaker 1: This is pretty early on in the shoot's life. I mean,
- 37:37Speaker 1: it would have been 10 to 20 years into the
- 37:40Speaker 1: shoot's existence when people lived in it. But he was
- 37:45Speaker 1: very anti-shoot. He wanted to move everyone out of the shoot.
- 37:50Speaker 2: He.
- 37:51Speaker 1: He supported things like building new affordable homes for them,
- 37:57Speaker 1: even in no man's land. He was very anti-shoot. And thus,
- 38:02Speaker 1: this is when the Wraith started being active as well.
- 38:06Speaker 1: So the police, the thought is like, we know very
- 38:10Speaker 1: little about the Wraith, but they are very clearly well-trained,
- 38:14Speaker 1: having done a few murders up to that point already.
- 38:18Speaker 1: So the thought is like perhaps with this unusual method,
- 38:23Speaker 1: they would resort to poison if they need a ride
- 38:27Speaker 1: for it. So those are the thoughts about Darren Pachowski
- 38:31Speaker 1: in the news. Gotcha. Nothing about the mistress, I take
- 38:34Speaker 1: it then. I did fail the check. I'm just, that's
- 38:37Speaker 1: what I was looking for. I know you failed the check,
- 38:39Speaker 1: so you got nothing about the Ellingtons, but I'll like
- 38:42Speaker 1: pull in your other check about is there anything missing. Mm-hmm. You,
- 38:47Speaker 1: I think just because of your powers, you would notice
- 38:49Speaker 1: that there are some things potentially about the mistress that
- 38:52Speaker 1: are missing. Empty slots in folders, that kind of thing.
- 38:58Speaker 1: More conspiracy. Okay, great. Love that. Okay, and then what
- 39:03Speaker 1: are you guys.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Are you guys going to try to talk to Linda
- 39:06Speaker 2: or are you going to do your own solve the
- 39:09Speaker 2: murder thing? I think this would be under the point
- 39:11Speaker 2: of solve the murder. So if you would rather look
- 39:14Speaker 2: for this mysterious flash.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Uh, or if, uh, Jameer, if you would rather start
- 39:21Speaker 1: diving into the Ellingtons, it's up to you.
- 39:23Speaker 5: Uh, Jameer, I, I just, I can't shake that that
- 39:28Speaker 5: flash was important. I think I got to look into
- 39:31Speaker 5: that more. Are you okay going to talk to the
- 39:33Speaker 5: Pachowskis on your own? Or I'm, I can leave that
- 39:36Speaker 5: for now.
- 39:36Speaker 1: If I, if, if you want.
- 39:38Speaker 6: No, no, no.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Flash that, I don't know if it's electrical, but that
- 39:42Speaker 2: feels more you so yes i will do i'll i
- 39:47Speaker 2: can talk.
- 39:48Speaker 1: To people yeah you're great at talking to people we'll.
- 39:50Speaker 2: See we'll see if i get anything but oh okay
- 39:54Speaker 2: i'll make a stop all right i'm.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Going in okay i'll play that over the quantum It'll
- 40:12Speaker 1: harmonize perfectly. We can only hope. Quanta, what are you
- 40:16Speaker 1: doing to try to track down this flash?
- 40:18Speaker 5: I will go into the grid again, but focus on
- 40:25Speaker 5: New Babel and all cameras in the city and just
- 40:31Speaker 5: do like a reverse image search of this ovular flash
- 40:36Speaker 5: that I saw.
- 40:36Speaker 1: That's really fun. That's really fun And you know get
- 40:42Speaker 1: a little hit Get a little hit while I'm at.
- 40:45Speaker 2: It Yeah absolutely Yeah you're interfering with the quality of
- 40:49Speaker 2: Shrek Forever After Oh shit Is that five?
- 40:53Speaker 1: That's four Shrek Five is Shrek Five Yeah My addiction
- 40:59Speaker 1: is finally coming to haunt me I was thinking of
- 41:02Speaker 1: Shrek Five or After Ah yes Okay That's enough talk
- 41:09Speaker 1: about Shrek. Just kidding. Save it for the chat game.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Just kidding.
- 41:13Speaker 2: We can talk about it. We will talk about Shrek
- 41:14Speaker 2: in the chat game. Quanta, this is big.
- 41:18Speaker 1: This is big.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Okay.
- 41:20Speaker 1: You are going to be rolling an investigation check.
- 41:24Speaker 5: All right.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Not my best. And you will be rolling a godly check.
- 41:30Speaker 2: Oof.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Which will cost you one. Excuse me. You'll be rolling
- 41:34Speaker 1: an epic check, which is a d20. It will not
- 41:36Speaker 1: cost you an energy. Okay. to find any trace of
- 41:40Speaker 1: this ovular flash. All right. I'm taking, uh, with scan.
- 41:46Speaker 1: I rolled a 15 again. Oh no. I'm rolling two
- 41:50Speaker 1: D sixes again. Okay. That's tough.
- 41:53Speaker 2: Nine, nine, 15. So I beat you by five, uh,
- 41:58Speaker 2: by more than five.
- 41:58Speaker 5: Right.
- 42:01Speaker 4: Hey, Johnny question for you. How much of the city's like,
- 42:07Speaker 4: Media is stored electrically versus on film.
- 42:11Speaker 1: That's what I was thinking.
- 42:15Speaker 4: I'm thinking about paper-like stuff. It's all I'm thinking about
- 42:18Speaker 4: every damn day.
- 42:20Speaker 1: VHS tape. Paper? More. I would say anything that is
- 42:27Speaker 1: worth storing is not stored electronically or digitally. It is
- 42:32Speaker 1: stored on tape. That's the quality of technology that New
- 42:39Speaker 1: Babel has access to. With this influx, there might be
- 42:43Speaker 1: some kind of new digital stuff from the world, but
- 42:48Speaker 1: anything worth storing is on tape.
- 42:51Speaker 5: So I'm just accessing anything that's currently in the player
- 42:55Speaker 5: is what I could see.
- 42:56Speaker 1: But anything old might be stored on film. Anything on
- 43:00Speaker 1: the shelf, I can't. But if it's If it's actually
- 43:03Speaker 1: in the slot, I could read it. Yeah. Any chance
- 43:07Speaker 1: I could help?
- 43:08Speaker 2: I'll take a help.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Yeah. I'll take a help. Yeah. Please. Please, Paper Phantom, please.
- 43:16Speaker 1: I can try. So my roll is 15. You rolled nine. Nine.
- 43:20Speaker 1: So just a, you just want a power die on
- 43:23Speaker 1: this thing. Just your paper sense die.
- 43:24Speaker 4: So paper sense, trying to sense film, which is paper adjacent.
- 43:29Speaker 4: I can roll low if you need me to.
- 43:31Speaker 6: Nope.
- 43:31Speaker 1: I think you'll roll flat on this.
- 43:33Speaker 5: All right.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Help ball. I got a six.
- 43:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:36Speaker 1: That's as much as I can give you. Fifteen. That's
- 43:39Speaker 1: a time cry.
- 43:40Speaker 5: Hey.
- 43:40Speaker 1: That's better. That's better.
- 43:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:43Speaker 1: It's a cry, not a sob. Quanta, with the help
- 43:46Speaker 1: of the phantom who scans all the tape in the city,
- 43:54Speaker 1: you're able to narrow your vision here just a little bit.
- 43:58Speaker 1: You find a series of Of images that, with the
- 44:03Speaker 1: Phantom's help, you're able to print out of his chest
- 44:07Speaker 1: and put up next to each other. Kind of like
- 44:09Speaker 1: a flip book. And you do catch a portal.
- 44:13Speaker 3: What?
- 44:14Speaker 1: Here's the portal. Now it's gone. Here's the portal. Now
- 44:17Speaker 1: it's gone. It's a portal? To where? It is a portal.
- 44:21Speaker 1: You don't know to where. It is cackling white energy that...
- 44:29Speaker 1: The last thing you see in the final image, the
- 44:32Speaker 1: rest is gone. There is the tip of a blade
- 44:37Speaker 1: slicing the bottom of this portal. Where are these images from?
- 44:41Speaker 1: Are they from the night of the murder or somewhere else?
- 44:44Speaker 1: I think with a tie and cry, you don't even
- 44:46Speaker 1: get that information. You just happen to find this. Okay.
- 44:54Speaker 1: It's the same kind of thing, but I can't tell
- 44:57Speaker 1: where in the city this is. It looks like they're
- 45:00Speaker 1: using a knife to cut space time. I think I
- 45:06Speaker 1: read that book. I think I read that book. I
- 45:09Speaker 1: think I actually read that one.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Oh, nice.
- 45:11Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 45:12Speaker 1: A book I've read. Snow Shrek 2.
- 45:15Speaker 2: Rigel. Yeah.
- 45:17Speaker 1: Are you wanting to, for the point of solve murder,
- 45:23Speaker 1: are you wanting to Check in with the Pachowskis or
- 45:27Speaker 1: do your own thing?
- 45:28Speaker 2: I'll do Pachowskis. That sounds fun. Okay.
- 45:30Speaker 3: All right.
- 45:31Speaker 4: Talking to family that has had tragedy befall them sounds
- 45:35Speaker 4: like a hoot.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Big Rigel energy on this one. I'm in. Rigel, how
- 45:43Speaker 1: do you show up to this lady's house in Koso?
- 45:45Speaker 2: It's not too far away from Taylor's parents' house. Yeah.
- 45:52Speaker 2: I'm going to one night... Or like 8 o'clock. You know,
- 45:59Speaker 2: like sun's setting. It's getting dark out. But it's not
- 46:02Speaker 2: like scaring late. Roger will fly over. And I'll start
- 46:08Speaker 2: sending some very tiny flight stars. Almost like little tiny...
- 46:14Speaker 2: I don't even know what they're called. Little star bits
- 46:19Speaker 2: from Super Mario Galaxy. I'm kind of sending those falling
- 46:24Speaker 2: around the house. And then I will hover to the
- 46:30Speaker 2: front door from above, and I'll politely knock. How late
- 46:35Speaker 2: is it?
- 46:37Speaker 1: 8.15.
- 46:38Speaker 2: Okay.
- 46:39Speaker 1: That's a reasonable hour. After dinner, before bed. Yeah.
- 46:43Speaker 2: An old woman with sunken eyes comes to the door. Uh, hello? Uh,
- 46:51Speaker 2: oh my.
- 46:52Speaker 1: Um, uh, she, uh... fully pulls in her robe, which
- 46:57Speaker 1: she's wearing for the evening, opens the door just a
- 47:00Speaker 1: little bit more. Uh, I'm, I'm sorry. Uh, she looks
- 47:04Speaker 1: out to see if there's anything going on.
- 47:07Speaker 2: What, uh, what do you do? Come in.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Um, come in, please.
- 47:13Speaker 2: Thank you. Rachel steps off his flight star, dismisses it
- 47:18Speaker 2: and walks in. Can I, can I get you anything? Um, I,
- 47:22Speaker 2: I put away dinner. Some time ago, but... A drink, perhaps? Yes,
- 47:30Speaker 2: a drink would be lovely.
- 47:33Speaker 1: Seltzer with lemon?
- 47:35Speaker 2: Please.
- 47:36Speaker 1: You hear fumbling around in the kitchen as you look
- 47:40Speaker 1: about her den. It's very simple. Leather couches. A very
- 47:45Speaker 1: small TV. A cuckoo clock above a faux fireplace. And
- 47:53Speaker 1: she returns seltzer, water, and lemon in a glass. Gives
- 47:58Speaker 1: it to you.
- 48:00Speaker 5: Here, here.
- 48:02Speaker 1: I don't follow all the happenings all the time. Was it... Rigel.
- 48:10Speaker 6: Rigel.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Rigel. I'm sorry.
- 48:12Speaker 2: No, don't. You have nothing to apologize for, ma'am.
- 48:16Speaker 1: To what do I owe this pleasure?
- 48:21Speaker 2: Fortunately... I'm not here to discuss happy times, but I
- 48:30Speaker 2: am here for justice. Oh.
- 48:36Speaker 1: You're here about Darren. Please tell me everything that.
- 48:42Speaker 2: Happened.
- 48:43Speaker 1: When you arrived, she was clearly nervous at your presence,
- 48:48Speaker 1: but when you bring this up, she becomes... a little
- 48:55Speaker 1: more frantically nervous, her eyes darting back and forth. Please,
- 49:03Speaker 1: I told officers, reporters, everything I knew at the time.
- 49:10Speaker 1: I'm really not at liberty to discuss this.
- 49:17Speaker 2: If I reach out an open hand, palm up, hey,
- 49:23Speaker 2: this all happened, frankly, before I was born. But me
- 49:29Speaker 2: and my friends are trying to piece this together. We
- 49:35Speaker 2: think it might have something to do with some... misdeeds
- 49:41Speaker 2: still going on today. And I think your story is
- 49:46Speaker 2: an important part of this puzzle. And as Rigel's saying this,
- 49:52Speaker 2: I'm just shooting tiny flight stars just to hover around
- 49:59Speaker 2: the room like we're in space. Just to add a cozy,
- 50:05Speaker 2: warm atmosphere. And hopefully... She feels a little bit of protection.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Rigel, roll a coax check. I would also take glory here.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Could I add my flight star?
- 50:22Speaker 1: You can add your fucking flight stars. It's just a D4.
- 50:27Speaker 1: You can add your flight stars, guts, sorry, glory or coax.
- 50:32Speaker 1: I'm rolling a difficult check, which is a D12. I
- 50:36Speaker 1: rolled a six.
- 50:37Speaker 2: All right, I got my D12 and my D4.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Come on, Rigel.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Eight.
- 50:43Speaker 1: That's a success. Seven plus one is eight every time. Lemon, seltzer, water, go!
- 50:48Speaker 1: It's important that you know that that's a success, Rigel.
- 50:52Speaker 1: You look at her. She takes your hand, like one
- 50:55Speaker 1: hand under yours and one hand on top of yours.
- 50:59Speaker 1: She looks at you very intently in the eyes. Her
- 51:02Speaker 1: eyes dart over to two different pictures over her mantle place.
- 51:06Speaker 1: Her eyes do that until you look over there. One
- 51:10Speaker 1: of the pictures is of a young man who has
- 51:14Speaker 1: a giant pair of scissors in his hand and he
- 51:18Speaker 1: just cut a ribbon and behind him there is a shop,
- 51:22Speaker 1: a storefront, and it says Pachowski's Dogs. The other one
- 51:27Speaker 1: is an image of a young woman who is celebrating
- 51:32Speaker 1: graduating something. It doesn't look, I think you know enough, Jameer,
- 51:38Speaker 1: because of your sister's It doesn't look like high school
- 51:42Speaker 1: or college. It looks like some post, some kind of
- 51:45Speaker 1: grad school, maybe even some sort of medical degree. She
- 51:50Speaker 1: glances over at those pictures, holds your hand firmly, and
- 51:55Speaker 1: she says, I'm not at liberty to discuss it. Please,
- 52:06Speaker 1: I wish I could help.
- 52:11Speaker 2: Rigel smiles, nods, walks over, and I'm going to inspect
- 52:20Speaker 2: these pictures respectfully. No touchy. Just look at them more closely.
- 52:30Speaker 2: How recent does the graduation picture appear to be?
- 52:35Speaker 1: 30 to 40 years old. Uh, it's probably, it's, it's too,
- 52:46Speaker 1: it's exactly two years and 10 days ago. No, it's
- 52:50Speaker 1: relatively recent.
- 52:51Speaker 3: Okay.
- 52:51Speaker 2: Recent close. Yes.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Uh, relatively recent as well as the, the, the same
- 52:58Speaker 1: is true of the opening of the, uh, Pachowski's dogs,
- 53:02Speaker 1: hot dogs.
- 53:03Speaker 2: That is. Okay. I, uh, I clock this information, and I,
- 53:11Speaker 2: one by one, will have the flight stars fly into
- 53:14Speaker 2: me as I drink this seltzer water down to the
- 53:20Speaker 2: last drop, place it down the table, and say, Justice
- 53:25Speaker 2: is coming.
- 53:30Speaker 1: She nods.
- 53:31Speaker 4: I am.
- 53:33Speaker 2: I hope so.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Thank you. And then she says loudly, Be safe out there, Rigel.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Don't get yourself in too much trouble.
- 53:54Speaker 2: I need to be unsafe out there so folks like
- 53:58Speaker 2: you can stay safe in here.
- 54:02Speaker 1: Right, right. Goodbye.
- 54:05Speaker 5: Bye.
- 54:06Speaker 2: Thank you, ma'am.
- 54:07Speaker 1: After these events, the three of you come together We'll
- 54:11Speaker 1: do like a little get-together here before we move on
- 54:14Speaker 1: in thread chasing. Yeah, quick download.
- 54:18Speaker 2: Yeah. There's more Pachowskis we can talk to. There's some
- 54:23Speaker 2: intimidation going on, but everything that she saw, she told reporters,
- 54:29Speaker 2: so those stories are out there to some extent.
- 54:33Speaker 1: And do you think those were her children in the photos?
- 54:36Speaker 2: Seemed like it. Makes sense.
- 54:39Speaker 4: Feels like there's maybe a larger cover-up happening. Everything I
- 54:42Speaker 4: was coming across, there was just something off about it. Pictures, documents, missing.
- 54:48Speaker 4: Seemed like, from what you're saying, some coercion as well.
- 54:55Speaker 4: Whoever doesn't want this out there doesn't want it real bad.
- 55:00Speaker 4: And they're smart, powerful, influential, potentially.
- 55:04Speaker 1: And maybe still around, if Linda's still afraid.
- 55:08Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 55:09Speaker 1: And if they can teleport. I think it's the same person.
- 55:15Speaker 1: It could be.
- 55:16Speaker 4: I mean, we've got the lead from the photos. We
- 55:22Speaker 4: do know one source of teleportation that exists.
- 55:27Speaker 1: The Wraith? Well, the Wraith's gone, but her system, I mean,
- 55:31Speaker 1: maybe there's some answers with the tech. I don't know.
- 55:34Speaker 1: It didn't make portals per se. Maybe it's different.
- 55:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I couldn't get a grip on it. It wasn't
- 55:39Speaker 5: like anything I'd ever sensed before. Her portal system.
- 55:48Speaker 2: We might be dealing with something beyond tech. Another person
- 55:55Speaker 2: like us. Magic space-time knife?
- 55:58Speaker 3: What?
- 56:00Speaker 1: Yeah, look at these photos. Yeah, my working theory is
- 56:03Speaker 1: magic space-time knife.
- 56:05Speaker 2: Okay. Okay.
- 56:06Speaker 5: We can't work out where it was, but Phantom helped
- 56:09Speaker 5: me find these in the grid.
- 56:13Speaker 1: It turns out film is kind of paper.
- 56:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Somehow it all comes back to paper and electricity
- 56:19Speaker 2: with you two, eh?
- 56:20Speaker 1: Hey, we'll solve a mystery.
- 56:23Speaker 5: Hey, somehow it all comes back to ladies flying in
- 56:26Speaker 5: the sky with you.
- 56:27Speaker 2: What?
- 56:28Speaker 1: What do you mean by that?
- 56:29Speaker 4: Yeah, one day we'll solve a mystery that's really celestially based.
- 56:34Speaker 1: I'm sure.
- 56:34Speaker 5: I do.
- 56:35Speaker 2: I doubt it, but no, no. This is good. This
- 56:41Speaker 2: is a good thing.
- 56:42Speaker 1: Your contributions are just different.
- 56:44Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 56:46Speaker 1: I'm happy to be patted on the head.
- 56:49Speaker 2: No.
- 56:50Speaker 1: You held up the building so good. And then Quanta
- 56:52Speaker 1: also did it, though, later.
- 56:55Speaker 2: Yes.
- 56:55Speaker 1: Do we all need pats on the back right now?
- 56:58Speaker 5: No. Okay.
- 56:59Speaker 2: Okay.
- 57:00Speaker 1: Pat, pat, pat, pat, pat, pat, pat. Thank you. You
- 57:04Speaker 1: guys want to go get some hot dogs? Yeah, for sure.
- 57:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I know just the place.
- 57:10Speaker 1: And that's where we'll end this episode of the Team
- 57:12Speaker 1: Up Play Show podcast. Our hero is going to Pachowski's dogs. D-A-W-G-Z, dogs.
