- 2:50Tonight, Tonight, Tonight, I have a very interesting guest on tonight,
- 2:54someone that I have never met, but I've known her in years. As
- 3:00a matter of fact, I started out my writing process writing an anthology with
- 3:07her. But before I introduce her, I would like to have a moment
- 3:10of prayer and all things we have to give thanks to God. So bow
- 3:15your heads and think on God for a minute. And the goodness of God
- 3:21and all that He's done for you. In the precious name of Jesus,
- 3:25Dear Heavenly Father, in the matchless name of your Son, Jesus, we
- 3:31thank you on tonight for this fellowship. We thank you on tonight for the
- 3:37guests. We thank you for the visionary Queen Angela and all the gifts and
- 3:43talents that you have given to her for the uplifting of the kingdom. Continue
- 3:47God to stir up the gifts within her. In the name of Jesus.
- 3:53All those who are listening to the sound of my voice, I don't know
- 3:55what they need God, but you know, and you work intercessory for us.
- 4:01On tonight, in Jesus' name, we pray. A man and a
- 4:06man and a man, and I introduced to you Lakeisha Malone, a man
- 4:14who is an author, who's an entrepreneur who loves God. So welcome,
- 4:19Welcome, Welcome, Welcome, Laksha. How are you. I'm good,
- 4:25I'm good? Are you? I am fine? I'm remembering as I was
- 4:31preparing for this interview, I'm remembering that you are a part of my first
- 4:43authorship journey. You seem a part of the anthology that began my writing journey,
- 4:53my publishing journey. You were also on that journey with me. But
- 4:59tonight tell us a little bit about whole Lakuitia Malone is man. So I
- 5:10am an author, of course, I'm a mother to a beautiful grown child
- 5:15now, and I'm a I'm a mentor, I'm a friend, and uh,
- 5:23let's see what else you can call me. I am. I also
- 5:29help people with their publishing process too, so I still do that. So
- 5:31that's a part of who I am. And I'm also now dabbling to the
- 5:35hair industry, so that's a little bit about myself. Yes, yes,
- 5:41over the years, I have found you. You know, sometimes when you're
- 5:45in this industry, it's competitive. They don't people don't want to share the
- 5:51knowledge that they've gained over the years. So when you ask the questions,
- 5:57they give you sketchy answers if they answered. Well, but I found that
- 6:00over the years that you are very, very helpful and that you will share
- 6:06whatefever information that you know. So I know when you say that you are
- 6:13a mentor that you are truly telling the truth because you're mentioned me on many
- 6:18occasions when I call you and ask you, how can I do this or
- 6:23how can I do that? So I just want to thank you for that.
- 6:27Amen. Awesome. When did you start your writing process? Oh man,
- 6:40So, I've always been a writer. I guess early elementary, you
- 6:46know, writing out. I used to tell take the Disney books and I'm
- 6:54telling my age, but the gold spine books that they had. I would
- 6:59take those books into how to write them. And so I just I've always
- 7:03wrote on paper, and I guess I can say maybe in my like the
- 7:12late elementary stage, I started writing stories about me and my friends in our
- 7:17day, and I would change our names to characters, and I would change
- 7:21the swap the stories out for who I'm talking about, so maybe people wouldn't
- 7:26know it was exactly who I'm talking about. And I would keep journals and
- 7:30I would just journal stories and thoughts and ideas out like that. So I
- 7:32probably would say third fourth grade is when I really started writing, but probably
- 7:38story writing probably fifth or sixth grade. So, yeah, Journey, When
- 7:46was the first time that you actually published the book and what was that about?
- 7:54So my first published book was actually in two thousand and eight. I
- 7:59went with a Vanity Press publisher, and I don't know, I it was
- 8:07poetry. That's what I wrote first, was my poetry. And because I
- 8:11started writing poetry in my high school years, because when I wrote stories,
- 8:16people knew who I was talking about, so I would write poetry hoping nobody
- 8:20would know what I was going through, so you would know who I was
- 8:22talking about. And so I decided to publish that in two thousand and eight.
- 8:28Okay, and what year did you win the award for poetry? Yes,
- 8:33I won my first award in twenty fifteen at the AAMBC Awards, and
- 8:41then a couple of years later I won a Helping Hand Award, I think
- 8:48for helping authors with miss t at her Literary Affair. Okay, okay,
- 8:56so can you tell us a little bit about your journey now and the hair
- 9:01here and what do you hope to accomplish with this hair with the hair Caea
- 9:07industry. Yes. So hair has always been a love of mine because growing
- 9:16up I never could grow my hair past a certain length. So about ten
- 9:20years ago I wanted to get into it because I learned how to actually manage
- 9:24and take care of my hair and get to grow. But back then I
- 9:26couldn't find the right resources that's available now. So after about fifteen years of
- 9:35writing books and helping people, I decided, I'm forty now I'm forty one
- 9:39actually, but when I hit forty, I said, there's gotta be something
- 9:41else that I can get my hands on that I love doing. Also,
- 9:46because I was burnt out in the writing industry, I just wanted to break
- 9:50and so I prayed about it, and God revealed to me what my dream
- 9:54was about ten years ago. Well a lot longer than ten years ago,
- 9:58but he revealed to me what I had a dream for when I first started
- 10:03trying to do my hair stuff, and I prayed about it, and it's
- 10:07like I saw something that I asked for. It just came across to me
- 10:13without me actually looking for it, and I was like, you know what,
- 10:16I think I'm gonna ask some questions, get some knowledge, and from
- 10:20there I decided to branch out with my own hair care line with hair concerns,
- 10:26help people to hair concerns and things that me and my family sofer through.
- 10:31And so now I have hair oils, I have a hair cream that's
- 10:35coming out. So I'm trying to build up the brand. I just started
- 10:39a few months ago, probably in March or April, and what I hope
- 10:43to accomplish with this is I hope one day it can become a really big
- 10:46thing for me and I have my own little space somewhere where I can make
- 10:54and sell my products. Amen. Amen, And we're gonna pray with you.
- 10:58Amen, God opens up that door for you. So we're going to
- 11:03go to a brief, brief commercial break and we'll be right back with lake
- 11:09Malone. Amen. Amen, getting to know Lakeisha La Malone. Amen.
- 11:31From Publishing, we are committed to helping our authors reach their goals and pursue
- 11:37their dreams of becoming published authors. We work closely with each author to ensure
- 11:43a successful publishing experience and dedicate it to helping them tell their stories in the
- 11:48most impactful and meaningful ways. So stop procrastinating and let's get started with writing
- 11:52that book. Welcome back, Welcome back, Lakeisha, And again I want
- 12:03to thank you for greeing, especially at the last minute, for agreeing a
- 12:07man to talk with us on tonight and man, and let's focus a little
- 12:13bit more on your writing career. Who was one of your favorite characters in
- 12:22your book? All the books I've written, I probably would have to say,
- 12:33oh favorite, I let me think about it, Maybe my favorite would
- 12:41be I can't say Priscilla. Maybe Naomi. I have a short story that
- 12:52I mean a short story. I have a story that I've released as a
- 12:54novella, and maybe I can say that Naomi from that story might be my
- 12:58favorite. Or the Shade from the Love Marriage Divorce. So it's between one
- 13:03of those two. Okay, okay, who is your most memorable character?
- 13:13I would say if I had to say, if people could get a chance
- 13:20to read What's in a Mother to say, not'm mare for one part two?
- 13:22I think my character from there might be memorable because of the shock value.
- 13:30I tried to add that suspenseful story. So maybe that. But if
- 13:35not, maybe Maya from Secrets Amongst Friends Or I have another story that's coming
- 13:43out tomorrow on Kendovella and unique is her name. She might be a great
- 13:46one because it's related to suicide prevention and she's a very very great local character.
- 13:52So maybe one of those. Okay, I remember, I have to
- 13:58get the second part of of your story, because the first one had me
- 14:11with longer for more. I was like, there's the rest of it?
- 14:16Where's the rest of it? Amen? So now I know that there's a
- 14:20rest of it. Hey man, I have to get that because you certainly
- 14:24left me in suspense and part one. I was not expecting that at all
- 14:31at all. But let's see, Okay, what would be your advice that
- 14:43you would give to someone new that's just starting out and either the author and
- 14:52business or the entrepreneur business, which you can pick which you wan, But
- 15:00what advice would you give to someone who is just starting out? I would
- 15:05say for both, the advice would be kind of the same. When you
- 15:09are a new author or even if you're trying to venture off into something different
- 15:13into your entrepreneurship, I would say number one, research, research, research,
- 15:20research, research your craft and what is you're trying to do. I
- 15:24would definitely say to research and study and practice on that beforehand. And I
- 15:31would also say, don't be afraid to get up under some mentorship and find
- 15:37people who are successful at what you're trying to get to, so that way
- 15:41you have a model or inspiration to keep striving for. So that was my
- 15:48advice. Yes, that's true. That and starting a business or writing a
- 15:54book, you have to be teachable and culchable because there's so many stairs and
- 16:00obstacles and hurdles that you have to go through that if you get with someone
- 16:07that has gone through those things already, they can steer you in the right
- 16:12direction. Like I know and being an author. When I purchased my first
- 16:18book cover, it was a mess and I paid over eight hundred dollars for
- 16:25it. And when I got into publishing and book covers and everything, I
- 16:32found out that a was a piece of junk that they never couldn't even use
- 16:37it on my book and that when I did a pain a beautiful book cover,
- 16:45I only paid one hundred dollars for it, and that's the highest I've
- 16:49ever paid for a book cover. So when you know better, and you'll
- 16:55do better. So it's better for you to sit under someone and research what
- 17:02you want to do, and then what you want to do to follow your
- 17:07dream. Because God has made us promises we have purpose in our life and
- 17:11that we had all costs. We have to search for that destiny. We
- 17:18have to step in to our destiny. So what is next for Lakisa Malone?
- 17:29What's next for me is I'm definitely going to spend as much of my
- 17:33forties as possible into my new career of choice. With their haircare. I
- 17:41actually want to do do more schooling for that. And I still help authors,
- 17:47So still offer my services to authors as they needed, and yeah,
- 17:53become some sort of influence of people to help them. So yeah, and
- 17:57whatever avenues are areas they want to do in their life, be some kind
- 18:00of influence for that. And man, we have to be the change that
- 18:07we want to see. A lot of times we complained about things, but
- 18:12we don't wan offer solutions to the problems that we face. So I'm really
- 18:18really excited about the new ventures that you on. Do you still write the
- 18:26magazine? I don't have my magazine. It became a very tedious job for
- 18:32me to do by myself, so I don't have it. The magazine are
- 18:36still out there. You can still download them for free or purchase a physical
- 18:40copy. One day in the future, I plan to revisit my author world
- 18:47maybe the magazine. I really did enjoy that, but it was just it
- 18:49was just too much for me to do by myself, right, So it
- 18:56became more of a choice than a passion something that, yeah, passionate about
- 19:03because it took up so much of your time. But it was a really
- 19:10good resource for writers, like what to do when. What is your advice
- 19:17for an author that gets burned out? I would say only because now that
- 19:26I've experienced it, I would say it's okay to take a break. I
- 19:33think it's okay to take a break, take care of you, take care
- 19:37of your mental and then revisit when you feel comfortable enough and able enough to
- 19:48bring out your best work. Because if you continue through that part of your
- 19:52life, when you don't, you don't produce. Your craft is not what
- 19:56you intend to produce because it's not coming from the same place place. I
- 20:00would say, somebody asked a question about the name of my product. The
- 20:03name of my product, my hair products. I guess that's what they're asking
- 20:07was it's Laquatter Cosmetics. It's the name of it. Uh, And someone
- 20:11feels my opinion, Yeah, where do you? Where can you purchase your
- 20:19haircare products? Purchasing my hair care products? I have a website. The
- 20:26website doesn't have any any products on it right now because I'm getting ready for
- 20:30Black Friday and everything. But mostly people just d M me and I send
- 20:34them. I send them the link that way as I gear up for Black
- 20:38Friday. So okay, so we can look for Laquatocosmetics dot com. We
- 20:45can look forward to some deals on Black Friday. Most definitely all right board
- 20:52two to Black Friday. How is I know you had health challenges? How
- 21:00is your health now? It's not the best. I found out a few
- 21:08weeks ago that I am a pre diabetic now on top of everything else.
- 21:14So my goal is to definitely get into a healthier state. Been doing a
- 21:22lot more research because suffering with congestive hard failure. I was doing in high
- 21:26blood pressure. I was doing the research for that. But it's like this
- 21:30third thing was like a wake up call because I'm like, I really really
- 21:34do not want uh to be a diabetic because that does run in my family.
- 21:40So I'm really trying to, uh, you know, get healthy,
- 21:47eat eat better. And it's it's really hard. It is so hard health.
- 21:52It is very very very hard because I went through to death of heart
- 22:00failure, and especially when I was in the hospital, you know, your
- 22:06diet is very very limited, it's already bland. So it was very very
- 22:11very hard. But I thank god that since I've come home that my daughter
- 22:18has basically can't be on the straight and narrow. They won't give me anything
- 22:23that I'm not supposed to have and I thank God for that. But we
- 22:27know that God is a healer, and we asking him to restore you back,
- 22:33to help Amen, to regulate sugar, regulate high blood pressure, how
- 22:40we regulate your heart. We know that He is able because I know from
- 22:45experience that God is able. I'm not supposed to be here tonight, Amen,
- 22:51but Mercy said no, God had other plans for me, and I
- 22:55thank God for that. So how can we reach you? Reaching me is
- 23:00not hard. I'm big on branding names or branding yourself, so if you
- 23:11look up my name or google it, it shows up everywhere. So you
- 23:14can reach me at Quia Malone on Facebook, TikTok, Instagram. I don't
- 23:21have my website up and running for us my personal books because like I said,
- 23:25I have taken a break from all of that. And I'm also I'll
- 23:30hang it out in my hair community I created as well for my my hair
- 23:34stuff. So you know, I'm not hard to find a promise, Okay,
- 23:41all right? So I know we talked about what what's next for you?
- 23:48What will we see you branding? What will we have will we see
- 23:52you showing up in the future? I know you've done. You used to
- 23:57do lives all the time to do with writing in the writing community and sharing
- 24:03information. Do you plan to do lives and stuff with and different sort of
- 24:10things with your hair business. Yes, I've always gone live and did my
- 24:18hair on my Facebook page, So that was nothing new for me, because
- 24:22I mean, I'll be late nights and like, okay, I'm bored,
- 24:25let me just go live and do my hair and talk to people. So
- 24:29we weren't familiar with me doing that over time. And plus I had I
- 24:33still have my YouTube channel and I had hair videos all over it, you
- 24:37know where you can see my hair started at one lifting you saw me grow
- 24:40it, so stuff like that. And I still do lives, do my
- 24:44hair when I feel like it, and here recently I went live on my
- 24:48TikTok. So for me, you're gonna just I'll be doing lives mostly related
- 24:55toward my hair care since that's where I'm leading toward right now. And my
- 25:00goal is also what I get more products out is to do I can't say
- 25:07pop up shops, but maybe something like that where I can move around and
- 25:11set up different places for a little while. I don't want it to do.
- 25:14I want that to be my main focus at all, because I prefer
- 25:18to just be strictly online. I don't really want to be traveled with a
- 25:22bunch of pop ups. I kind of want I want my free time to
- 25:26so so I mostly be online. Yes, they have. There's a lot
- 25:33of pop up shops gonna be doing virtually. Matter of fact, Seanelle Williams
- 25:41is doing one for Christmas, and she said, I'm in that. I'm
- 25:47a part of that. Okay. You know, now that technology has gotten
- 25:55to where it is, there's a lot of things that one could do virtually,
- 26:02sell their products and stuff virtually. So I'm really excited excited to have
- 26:07this time to talk with you, to catch up with you. Like I
- 26:12said earlier in the show, that I've been knowing Lakeisha. I've never met
- 26:18her in person, but I've been knowing her since twenty sixteen. I think
- 26:26when we when we co authored Loved, Marriage and Divorce, and she wrote
- 26:34about love and I wrote about divorce. And what was so unique about that
- 26:42book is that when I started off, I started off to write like a
- 26:48research paper on people that were getting divorced or whatever, and as I was
- 26:53writing it became characters and the characters began to do their own thing, and
- 27:00I was like, oh, my goodness, because I had never written nonfiction
- 27:06before. I had never published anything, but I had written a lot of
- 27:11inspirational things, so I was used to writing inspirational and writing sermons and things
- 27:17like that, but writing fiction was out of my league. And the characters
- 27:23just became alive. And once I saw my name in print, it is
- 27:29just like when you're pregnant and you finally pushed that baby out and they bring
- 27:36that baby and laid on your chest and you feel like, oh, wow,
- 27:40I did this, this is my baby. That's how I felt when
- 27:45love, marriage, and Divorce came out that I just cried and began to
- 27:51give God thanks because the dreams that were prophesied over me many many years ago
- 28:00became began become a reality, and I began to see the manifestation of God's
- 28:07promises in my life. And right after that, I was able to write
- 28:12two solo books. And I've been a part of so many of Seanelle Williams
- 28:19anthologies and Arcantine More's anthologies. And that's you're on the other one with the
- 28:27Priscilla right in the two churches that you were in able put us as well.
- 28:33Right, No, no, I was supposed to. Oh okay,
- 28:36I thought your name. Yeah, No, I was supposed to. But
- 28:41I didn't get my story written in time. As a matter of fact,
- 28:44it's still a story that I'm working on because I changed it from It was
- 28:52supposed to be a part of that, but I changed it to ain't he
- 28:56Ain't no choir boy, So that's something coming out. I have so many
- 29:02books in my repertoire, but I really really want to get in to children's
- 29:07books because I taught four and five year olds for twenty years, and a
- 29:15lot of times when I was looking for a topic I couldn't find anything that
- 29:19looked like us that was quality work, so I would make up my own
- 29:27stories. So now I want to get into publishing those stories and maybe going
- 29:34into schools and reading stories to children. So that's the next avenue that I
- 29:41want to take. But once again, Lakeisha, I want to thank you.
- 29:45Thank you for coming on the show tonight and sharing your stories with us.
- 29:52We wish you the best, the best of I don't even want to
- 29:57say luck because I don't believe in love. Everyone believe you to wish you
- 30:03the best in your new endeavors. I know God because of the heart that
- 30:08you have. I know God is gonna bless anything that your hands touched.
- 30:14He's gonna bless it because you have a pure heart that you give of yourself,
- 30:21not out of You're not selfish, You're not in competition with anybody.
- 30:27You know who you are, you know what you're worth, so you're able
- 30:33to share with people's community over competition. You're not in competition with no one.
- 30:41So I'm really looking forward to the things that God is gonna do in
- 30:47your life, to the doors that God is gonna open up in this new
- 30:52season of your life. So I'm excited, excited to excided. Get ready,
- 30:56Get ready, get ready, because just this idea came to you suddenly,
- 31:03and God gave you the things that you need. Your next level it's
- 31:07gonna be suddenly, it's gonna be expediated. So don't count it strange and
- 31:12man, when doors begin to open for you, doors that no man can
- 31:18shet doors, favor is not fair. So there's great in this favor all
- 31:22over your life. And I thank God for you. I thank God for
- 31:26meeting you because I believe in divine connections that I believe you were a divine
- 31:33connection in my life. So I thank God for you. I thank God
- 31:37for the things he's doing for you, and this season, I thank God
- 31:41for the listening audience and those who are gonna catch this on replay. Remember,
- 31:48remember, chase your dreams. Never stop dreaming, never stop reaching for
- 31:55the stars. If you only reached but so hard, far Father than you've
