- 2:20Speaker 1: How's your summer going?
- 2:23Speaker 2: Great.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Alright, yeah, traveling, yeah, traveling man.
- 2:30Speaker 1: I just got back.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm a road trip on the road with the youngsters across the country, not all the way, but pretty far I mean longest road trip I've been on with my kids yeah, yeah, how long did it?
- 2:46Speaker 2: How long?
- 2:48Speaker 1: We broke it up.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I mean we could have done it all at once it's probably like 13, 14 hour trip but we did it Up to the Ozarks.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Summer Hot, it was a good time.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Summer hot, it was a good time.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Summer is in right now.
- 3:10Speaker 1: We got some recruiting to get to right away.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Uh, it was kind of going on slow for fsu in particular, but things are heating up lately so I got jimmy reno here to talk about it and throw out some names.
- 3:26Speaker 1: They did.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Florida State got One of the highest ranked, the highest ranked quarterback in the 26th class Committed.
- 3:33Speaker 1: That's always big when you get that position, especially A guy.
- 3:39Speaker 1: That's you know the guy.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Everybody wants him and he commits to Florida State.
- 3:45Speaker 1: And that is yeah, I mean, everybody wants him and he commits to Florida State.
- 3:47Speaker 2: And that is great.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a.
- 3:49Speaker 2: He's a big time quarterback, big time kid 6'5, 200 pounds, big arm.
- 3:56Speaker 2: He's one of the top, depending on the site that you go by right, I mean he's.
- 4:02Speaker 2: You know, that's the kid they had a good shot at.
- 4:06Speaker 2: They identified him early and committed.
- 4:08Speaker 2: He's a class of 26 kid.
- 4:10Speaker 2: That seems to be.
- 4:12Speaker 2: The trend is, you know, get your QB as early as you can.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Well, they had Luke pretty quick too.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I think percentage-wise you got a better shot of holding on to a kid like that at that position.
- 4:26Speaker 2: You can get them locked in early.
- 4:28Speaker 2: They were able.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I mean you know they got a QB commit for the 25 class.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Tramell Jones, yeah, I guess he says that he's shut down his recruitment.
- 4:41Speaker 2: That doesn't really mean anything in the summer.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Right, he's shut down his recruitment.
- 4:43Speaker 2: That doesn't really mean anything in the summer.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Right, but you know they're content with only taking him.
- 4:49Speaker 2: I mean, you know he's a pretty decent prospect.
- 4:52Speaker 2: He's a little on the short side I think he's only 5'11", maybe 6 feet, but he's not a terrible.
- 5:01Speaker 2: You know he's not a terrible prospect to have in your class at that spot.
- 5:03Speaker 2: But I can't remember which day it was that I texted you that FSU recruiting was pretty much just dead in the water.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Yeah, it was maybe like two weeks ago, but since then they've.
- 5:15Speaker 2: They've gotten four or five verbal commits, a couple of surprises, um, and a couple of kids that were in the class already, to quote unquote, solidify their commitment.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Again, it's summertime, that doesn't really mean shit.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Summertime in the new era of NIL.
- 5:33Speaker 1: The video game is about to come out.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know I'm not saying that Florida State does this or that a lot of schools do it, but it's definitely not out of the realm of possibility for kids to make a little bit of money by doing things like that.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Hey, I'll tweet it out in the summertime that I'm solid, just so you guys can continue some recruiting momentum if you give me a little bit of money.
- 5:58Speaker 2: I'm not saying that any of that happened or anything.
- 6:01Speaker 2: It's just something to consider when recruits quote unquote shut it down yeah in the summertime, like nothing is ever shut down until they sign paper, and even then it's not really so they were dead and at that time they had five, they were just missing out on guys.
- 6:18Speaker 1: What was it?
- 6:19Speaker 2: it just not really a whole lot of action.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I think their first few weekends of official visits in the summers were kids that they just had long shots at Right, not even really much of a chance.
- 6:28Speaker 2: So they've CJ Wiley, wide receiver, and Kevin Wynn, a defensive tackle, both out of the state of Georgia.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Those were surprising to me, that A that they ended it that early and that they chose Florida State over Georgia that early and that they chose Florida State over Georgia.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Again, you got to hold on to them, but those were two big-time pulls for Florida State.
- 6:52Speaker 2: They kept it going.
- 6:54Speaker 2: They got another defensive tackle, myron Charles, which there were a lot of chatter about, texas offering him a hefty NIL package.
- 7:07Speaker 2: So you know that's a big-time win there, mm-hmm.
- 7:10Speaker 2: You know they did some work, man.
- 7:12Speaker 2: They got the Gregory Thomas kid down from Fort Lauderdale, you know.
- 7:20Speaker 2: He's a really nice-looking defensive back man.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I think he might be corner or safety.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Reminds me a lot of of of AZ Thomas on the on the team Now I see a lot of?
- 7:29Speaker 1: uh, the Thomas kid is going to be the first.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a member of member of the Seminole tribe of Florida, the first scholarship player on FSU football.
- 7:40Speaker 1: They've had a few walk-ons but I think this is a guy that's going to play Right, so he's oh yeah, yeah, he's from american heritage.
- 7:49Speaker 2: You know pat sartan coach down there.
- 7:50Speaker 2: He's very familiar with that area.
- 7:53Speaker 1: This is a big time prospect, jerseys down there could be man.
- 7:57Speaker 2: They're getting a lot of run time on the uh, the recruiting visits.
- 8:00Speaker 2: That might be something that comes out of the future.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Just I mean they look good, just throw them on there with the gold and the gold.
- 8:06Speaker 1: All right, you mentioned Thomas, they got a couple other guys.
- 8:12Speaker 2: You mentioned Wiley, the two defensive linemen.
- 8:14Speaker 2: You know you got Chase Lofton, the tight end prospect, out in the state of Nebraska Right.
- 8:19Speaker 2: It's actually really hard to get a kid like that to leave Nebraska.
- 8:24Speaker 1: As a kid.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Nebraska really wanted Yep, they did a really nice job there.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Unfortunately, nebraska is Nebraska.
- 8:32Speaker 1: This kid probably just wants to get out of Nebraska, Right I?
- 8:34Speaker 2: think he just you know, he really enjoyed his time here in.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Tallahassee, man, yeah, man.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Hey, but he's a nice.
- 8:40Speaker 2: He's a really nice looking prospect.
- 8:41Speaker 2: He's 6'6", verified, moves pretty well for a big guy.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Help me.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Yeah, so that'll.
- 8:50Speaker 2: You know they've done some work, man, just in the last couple weekends.
- 8:55Speaker 2: You know they've missed out on a couple of other guys, but it's to be expected.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they're sitting in around nine verbal commitments for their class, which is still extremely low, that I believe they're the only power for team with less, you know, under double digit verbal commits at this point.
- 9:16Speaker 1: But yeah, One of the highest average star ratings.
- 9:19Speaker 2: There you go.
- 9:21Speaker 1: They know what they want.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Well, yeah, that's what you got to look at, and there's also the transfer portal.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Right, I don't think there's going to be a lot more high school guys, maybe another five or six, maybe eight max man, but they're going to save a lot of room for transfer portal.
- 9:38Speaker 1: But again, you never know One of the only schools with only single-digit commits.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Yeah, at the high school level, right, right but their two highest rated guys in their class have been committed for a while.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Again, if you manage for them to really end their recruitment, just pretty much lock in, then that's pretty big in and of itself.
- 10:02Speaker 2: So they're doing work.
- 10:05Speaker 2: It's just not really all numbers, man.
- 10:07Speaker 2: You know quality.
- 10:08Speaker 1: And the transfer portal is closed.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Yeah, for this season.
- 10:13Speaker 2: You know roster's pretty much a done deal, all right.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Well, we have a lot to look forward to in terms of previewing positions, but that's what the summer's for.
- 10:23Speaker 1: So what else?
- 10:26Speaker 1: Really?
- 10:27Speaker 1: What's going on?
- 10:30Speaker 1: Right now, you got what, what.
- 10:32Speaker 1: What got what.
- 10:32Speaker 1: What gets you excited, though, in terms of of those all the position groups, what position group on either side of the ball has you the most excited heading into next year?
- 10:46Speaker 2: Well, I mean defensive tackle.
- 10:48Speaker 2: I'm not sure if it's excited or just kind of like anxious to see if these guys are legit going to be able to do it.
- 10:57Speaker 2: You know it's Farmer and Jackson are going to get a lot of playing time, so that's the spot, though I mean if they can step in and not much of a drop-off from what you got out of Fiske and Right.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm looking up front.
- 11:15Speaker 1: I know it's.
- 11:16Speaker 1: You can't win without the big guys.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm anxious to see what Marvin Jones Jr does at the edge.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I'm not expecting Jared Verst type things immediately, but you know you can put up maybe eight to ten sacks this year.
- 11:35Speaker 2: That'd be huge.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I like the potential of that first team D line.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I mean you got Peyton Jones coming off the edge, yeah.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I like the potential of that first team D-line.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I mean you got Peyton Jones coming off the edge, yeah.
- 11:51Speaker 2: And then up the middle you got the tag team guys of Farmer.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and you can't forget about the additions that they brought from the portal.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Right and the D-line is going to be so.
- 12:00Speaker 1: D-line stacked depth Again.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Yeah, they're just going to throw bodies and rotate Good.
- 12:12Speaker 1: O-line.
- 12:13Speaker 1: How's the?
- 12:13Speaker 1: We got the O-line to look forward to Receiver for me is probably the one with the most who's going to question marks.
- 12:17Speaker 2: It's going to be a different offense man and that's really like being able to adapt to what you have on your roster is going to be the big question.
- 12:26Speaker 2: What's the?
- 12:28Speaker 2: You know, last year you had two mismatches at wide receiver.
- 12:31Speaker 2: That's how you put pressure on defenses.
- 12:33Speaker 2: You know, this year you're going to have to power run.
- 12:37Speaker 2: You're going to have to be able to run no matter what and then take your shots.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Right run you're gonna have to be able to run no matter what and then take your shots right because nobody out.
- 12:43Speaker 2: There is really just a physical mismatch at wide receiver and you know, you get some guys like like hakeem starts putting it together and then obviously he becomes that mismatch.
- 12:55Speaker 2: But I think they're gonna rely heavy on the run game and just take their shots.
- 13:00Speaker 2: So that'll be a big question, man, how's the offensive line do?
- 13:04Speaker 2: Yeah, if you can improve at the guard spots, then I think you might have something.
- 13:14Speaker 1: All right, well, but we'll see, it's a long way to go.
- 13:17Speaker 1: It is a long way to go, as we just hit July.
- 13:19Speaker 1: It's getting hot out.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I mean it's really hot outside.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Be careful, stay hydrated.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Stay hydrated.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Well, you know we had a champ.
- 13:31Speaker 1: What did you think about the Celtics man?
- 13:34Speaker 1: Are we going to finally have a dynasty, maybe set up?
- 13:40Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Paul George is now on the Sixers.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Hey, Clay Thompson's going to the Mavs.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Thompson going to the Mavs.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I don't know if he's got anything left.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I mean, what do you get?
- 13:51Speaker 2: Just a three?
- 13:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that'll be good there Until playoffs.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Yeah, keep him warm, I guess yeah, the experience alone.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Okay, maybe nice to see the heat stay healthy.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 14:06Speaker 2: You think the Nuggets can get it together.
- 14:10Speaker 1: They need to add depth.
- 14:11Speaker 1: They need to add depth.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Timberwolves, Are you going to sleep on the Lakers father-son, the man and his child?
- 14:21Speaker 2: They're going to do it.
- 14:23Speaker 1: They'll be just like they were last year at the playing game.
- 14:26Speaker 1: You don't believe JJ?
- 14:27Speaker 1: Well, it's Vision.
- 14:29Speaker 1: The West is loaded, yeah, and you got teams that stepped up.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Dude LeBron is 53 years old Nuggets are still good.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Lebron's 40.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I mean, although he stillays at an At an elite level, he's not.
- 14:42Speaker 1: He's not enough To carry a team To the high seed.
- 14:47Speaker 1: He's not like that, so he needs help.
- 14:51Speaker 2: They need a team.
- 14:51Speaker 2: They don't have enough.
- 14:52Speaker 2: They need a team Anthony Davis who's Do a regular season Without him and then be like Alright man, come on.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:58Speaker 2: We got you the four seed.
- 14:59Speaker 2: That's just Well, man, come on.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Yeah, we got you the four seed, that's just well ain't going to happen.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:04Speaker 2: He gets to play with his kid for at least a year, though, man.
- 15:07Speaker 1: That's second round draft pick.
- 15:08Speaker 1: They drafted his son and, and you know that would have been cool, it would have been funny if someone else would have drafted him.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Just to hold on to him, yeah, just to piss him off.
- 15:19Speaker 1: You know like, hey, we're going to keep him, we're going to sign him, keep him in the D League, so you can't even play with him.
- 15:27Speaker 2: You can't even play against him.
- 15:29Speaker 2: God, nobody was that petty.
- 15:31Speaker 2: No, he doesn't have enemies like that, I guess.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Or just they could have got maybe forced a like a lopsided trade Like all right, well, you want them, you know we want a first round.
- 15:44Speaker 2: We want AD.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Give us, give us that guy.
- 15:49Speaker 2: We want the brow.
- 15:51Speaker 1: So the video game's coming out.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Football, yeah, ncaa man Can't believe it.
- 15:58Speaker 2: We used to play blue chip ratio.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I can't believe that he's big time now.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Yeah, well, not really he must be on the uh, but uh, what else we got going on man Baseball link.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Jared signed a new deal.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that uh.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I mean you know that's good for recruiting and things like that.
- 16:23Speaker 2: I don't.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Personally, I don't see that that he was ever really going to be a threat to leave man.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Oh, I know but it's good to keep him locked in.
- 16:31Speaker 1: I mean, you saw the coach dart to texas the day after denying it a guy is a uh, he's piece of work.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Man, yeah, he left tcu in the same kind of kind of way, right, it obviously wasn't after they just got beat for the college world series, but still, we'll see.
- 16:54Speaker 1: I don't know, man, oh did we did, we didn't, I didn't talk about, uh, the U S open.
- 16:59Speaker 1: It was a battle, it was a classic U S open from Pinehurst, number two in North Carolina.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Classic in the sense that someone chose.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Bryson.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Dechambeau is your 2024 US Open champion, who you know.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Rory McIlroy was right there, but he missed two tap-ins, pretty much One on 16 and one on 18.
- 17:31Speaker 1: He was lost by one shot.
- 17:32Speaker 1: He choked, he choked, he choked.
- 17:36Speaker 1: But DeChambeau made a great shot on 18 out of the bunker and he had.
- 17:42Speaker 1: You know, it was a different Bryson interacting with the crowd in a place where somebody always.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Stuart won in 99.
- 17:52Speaker 1: 25 years earlier, on the last hole, bryson was able to do the same by knocking in a par, just like Payne Stewart did, and I mean he's kind of this generation's Payne Stewart.
- 18:07Speaker 1: You know he's trying.
- 18:09Speaker 1: I mean he's got a good social media team he's nowhere near as likable.
- 18:13Speaker 1: No, he's not, but he's working hard on it.
- 18:15Speaker 1: His game has gotten a lot better.
- 18:18Speaker 2: I don't.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Personally I don't care man.
- 18:21Speaker 2: I know I don't care if he's a nice guy or not.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't either.
- 18:26Speaker 1: It's about playing golf.
- 18:27Speaker 1: It is, and he is now a two-time US Open champion.
- 18:31Speaker 1: A rare group, and Rory just was out of there man.
- 18:41Speaker 2: He didn't want anything to do with it.
- 18:42Speaker 2: You don't you let the guys celebrate.
- 18:43Speaker 2: If you're not I mean if you're not right there on the green you're not going to just walk out there and get out of here yeah, got one, let me enjoy it.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Yeah, that's your golf got the Open coming up and the Olympics it's the Olympic year, olympic golf, track and field.
- 19:02Speaker 1: You know all the sports.
- 19:03Speaker 1: I was watching some of the Gymnastics.
- 19:06Speaker 1: My son does gymnastics.
- 19:08Speaker 1: We were watching a little bit of it.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Simone Biles still doing it.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Do you watch any of the the?
- 19:14Speaker 1: track.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Any of the races.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I saw the 400 meter hurdles the girl set the world record those two 16 and 17 year old kid and the 100 and 200 incredible with grown men, man.
- 19:34Speaker 1: it's going to be incredible.
- 19:35Speaker 1: I love the Olympics, wimbledon's going on, and there's your golf minute congrats to Bryson.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I'm with grown men man.
- 19:39Speaker 1: It's going to be incredible.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I love the Olympics, wimbledon's going on and there's your golf minute Congrats to Bryson.
- 19:42Speaker 1: He's really.
- 19:44Speaker 1: I guess he gained a lot of new fans.
- 19:46Speaker 1: It was just a couple years ago where he wasn't really the most popular guy, but you know that's big.
- 19:56Speaker 1: He went in the US Open.
- 20:00Speaker 1: So well, what else we got?
- 20:01Speaker 1: We got nothing really.
- 20:04Speaker 2: You know football's around the corner.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Football.
- 20:06Speaker 2: I mean, we got, there's a big announcement tonight.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Let me just touch on this Linebacker.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Tavion Wallace.
- 20:11Speaker 2: They've been recruiting this kid for two and a half three years.
- 20:16Speaker 2: He's going back and forth with saying FSU is his leader and they're not, and whatnot and all that.
- 20:24Speaker 2: This is essentially the last big linebacker target they have on the board.
- 20:30Speaker 2: If they miss on this kid, their needs to.
- 20:38Speaker 2: That's got to be it for Randy Shannon.
- 20:41Speaker 1: I knew it, I saw it coming.
- 20:42Speaker 2: I understand he may be a great coach, but like We'll revisit it If they land him.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Fine man Fine.
- 20:50Speaker 2: If you get one every couple years, you're a good coach, you can stay.
- 20:54Speaker 1: We got to get on out of here.
- 20:57Speaker 2: If not, man, you can, just you know.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I'm sure All right here.
- 21:01Speaker 2: I'm sure South Florida needs a defensive coordinator.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Go re-work for Alex Golesh.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Hey, hey, hey.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Hey.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Well, Coach Slammakers, there's also the transfer portal.
- 21:16Speaker 2: I know, I know, man, I mean you could do a whole show about that Recruiting really doesn't mean what it used to.
