Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:07Speaker 2: All right, Well, earlier it is that we have a
- 0:09Speaker 2: new sponsor on board, Alex Carrett's One Leg Up Network,
- 0:13Speaker 2: and I'm so honored to announce that Justin Time Baseball, Yes,
- 0:17Speaker 2: Justin Sherman has wanted to come alongside and partner with
- 0:21Speaker 2: the One Leg Up Network. And I'm so very honored.
- 0:24Speaker 2: For those who may not know and have not listened
- 0:26Speaker 2: to that show before. With Justin Time and some of
- 0:28Speaker 2: his staff members, Justin brings baseball to the kids of
- 0:33Speaker 2: all ages really, and he's even taken those baseball camps
- 0:37Speaker 2: to the major league level, partnering with MLB and Playball,
- 0:41Speaker 2: and I'm very proud to call him a friend and
- 0:43Speaker 2: that he's wanted to partner alongside with us here at
- 0:46Speaker 2: the One Leg Up Network. If you don't remember, he
- 0:48Speaker 2: just had Luke Weaver on a couple of weeks ago
- 0:50Speaker 2: ap at his camp. He's at ours Waldo Cabera. Come
- 0:53Speaker 2: and teach the kids as well. Lou Terminello, you got
- 0:55Speaker 2: to come to one of these camps and check it out.
- 0:57Speaker 3: It is so cool to see these athletes give back
- 1:00Speaker 3: and you see the kids get so excited over you know,
- 1:02Speaker 3: the way Justin and Frank Luna and Luke and Oswalda
- 1:06Speaker 3: and now Jazz Chisholm this weekend are bringing baseball to
- 1:09Speaker 3: the youth.
- 1:09Speaker 4: That's really something to watch.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Alex. Congratulations and with the new sponsor, and that's exciting
- 1:15Speaker 1: that justin time baseball, with sports, with politics, with history,
- 1:21Speaker 1: with just so many different, so many different subjects. Congratulations,
- 1:26Speaker 1: that's great and just in time baseball. I mean, if
- 1:28Speaker 1: you want to learn about the game, teamwork, anything about character.
- 1:35Speaker 2: He also does a lot of character building with these absolutely.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I mean, any any coach, any young parent who has
- 1:44Speaker 1: a young kid who's trying to get into baseball, wants
- 1:47Speaker 1: to improve their skills. This is the place for them.
- 1:51Speaker 1: So that's great. Alex.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Congratulations And then you for me encourage on this journey
- 1:56Speaker 2: and keep it going with these weekly shows. I think
- 1:58Speaker 2: it's making a difference for a lot of people that
- 2:01Speaker 2: are listening. So I appreciate you always joining me. And
- 2:04Speaker 2: you know what, are weak to join because a the
- 2:06Speaker 2: Yanks just snapped their six game losing Streek.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Look everybody's complaining. Look the Nationals had an eleven game
- 2:13Speaker 4: losing Street stap, So it's.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Not that bad.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Louis.
- 2:15Speaker 1: It's not that bad. Let's face it. Sports overreaction is prevalent,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and everybody was overreacting about this, about this losing streak,
- 2:27Speaker 1: and yes, it's it was they just didn't hit if
- 2:31Speaker 1: if it was some other issues, and there was some
- 2:34Speaker 1: other issues. They still can't run the basis. Uh, it's
- 2:37Speaker 1: amazing that they're so successful and they're just and I'm
- 2:41Speaker 1: gonna be kind, they're average at the fundamentals. It's amazing
- 2:45Speaker 1: that the Yankees are so successful on a year and
- 2:47Speaker 1: a year out basis. But they're gonna be okay. You know,
- 2:51Speaker 1: they'll they'll be fine.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I know you're gonna sit here and say that on
- 2:56Speaker 2: Juneteenth it's going to be the Yankees Division, which I believe,
- 2:59Speaker 2: but hey, it is.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna make a prediction on June teens right now,
- 3:03Speaker 1: they're gonna win the division by at least six or
- 3:06Speaker 1: seven games.
- 3:07Speaker 4: And they're gonna ride in there.
- 3:08Speaker 2: We'll see what happens, because look, I know it's June,
- 3:11Speaker 2: but the Rays look pretty strong all of a sudden.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Well, okay, now, I'm gonna tell you one thing about
- 3:16Speaker 1: the Rays. The Rays are playing seventy five percent of
- 3:20Speaker 1: their games. At home at Steinbrenner Field in the first
- 3:23Speaker 1: half of the year because of the heat and the
- 3:25Speaker 1: rain that comes to the Tampa area in the summertime.
- 3:31Speaker 1: After the last sixty games, I think like forty seven
- 3:35Speaker 1: of them are on the road or something. And don't
- 3:36Speaker 1: hold me to those numbers, but most of the games
- 3:40Speaker 1: in the second half of the year on the road.
- 3:42Speaker 1: The Rays are amazing how they are able to make
- 3:44Speaker 1: chicken salad at chicken feathers. I'm starting to believe Kevin
- 3:47Speaker 1: Cash can only oreo feathers.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Considering they were down to eight nothing yesterday and came
- 3:51Speaker 2: back to wind twelve to eight.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And you know, you talk about the Orioles, they're done.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I mean, they're twelve games under five hundred or eleven
- 3:59Speaker 1: games on five hundred. They got a long way to go,
- 4:02Speaker 1: even I I let.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Me tell you, I mean, if you blow an eight
- 4:05Speaker 2: nothing lead like that, the interim should be replaced by
- 4:08Speaker 2: another manager. But that's that's another story for another day.
- 4:12Speaker 2: But no, Yangs looked better today. Look, I don't really
- 4:16Speaker 2: care about seasons, you know, mid season series like this,
- 4:21Speaker 2: but if they were to get swepped again, that would
- 4:24Speaker 2: be a little alarmed.
- 4:25Speaker 1: So they had a win today.
- 4:26Speaker 2: I know it's early to say I must win, but
- 4:28Speaker 2: you need to defend your turf a little bit.
- 4:30Speaker 1: So well again, now I'm gonna I'm gonna throw out.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Uh.
- 4:35Speaker 1: You know, if some Mets fans want to panic, I
- 4:38Speaker 1: think they have reasons to reason to. Today. I just
- 4:42Speaker 1: saw that that Max Chranics been put on disabled list
- 4:47Speaker 1: after Tyler McGill was put on disabled let's three days ago,
- 4:51Speaker 1: after last Thursday. You know, as I said, Cardi Singa
- 4:55Speaker 1: is out, they have five guys. It looks like they're
- 4:57Speaker 1: gonna have five guys on the disabled list. They bringing
- 5:00Speaker 1: up somebody from Sarahcuse to pitch tomorrow night. Sean Mania
- 5:07Speaker 1: hasn't pitched the game yet. Who knows when he's gonna pitch.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I don't care about Frankie Montos. That was a waste
- 5:13Speaker 1: of seventeen million dollars. I've never been a Frankie Montos fan,
- 5:18Speaker 1: even in the days when he was with the A's.
- 5:21Speaker 4: The Mets.
- 5:22Speaker 1: This is a real dangerous time for the Mets when
- 5:25Speaker 1: they're playing Atlanta for three, Philly for three, and then
- 5:29Speaker 1: come home to the City Field to play Atlanta for four,
- 5:32Speaker 1: and the Braves may not be able to make up
- 5:34Speaker 1: that horrible start that they had, but they're still a
- 5:39Speaker 1: dang they're a very good team. And I'm gonna say, well,
- 5:44Speaker 1: I thought Chris Sale was done with all his injuries,
- 5:46Speaker 1: you know, two years ago when the Braves obtained him
- 5:49Speaker 1: from the Red Sox, I said why. And last year,
- 5:53Speaker 1: in his first year with the Braves, he won the
- 5:55Speaker 1: Cy Young Award. He's off to a great start again
- 5:58Speaker 1: this year, and he pitched a great game against the
- 6:00Speaker 1: Mets last night. The Mets confidence, which was riding high
- 6:04Speaker 1: into that Tampa Bay series when they won fifteen out
- 6:06Speaker 1: of nineteen, has definitely been shaken. And every every Mets
- 6:10Speaker 1: fan has a right to be worried right now.
- 6:13Speaker 2: And you know, Louis met fans may may be aware,
- 6:16Speaker 2: but maybe the average listeners not. The Mets are bit
- 6:19Speaker 2: banged up right now, overall, aren't they. They're banged up.
- 6:23Speaker 1: They are banged up, and you know, hey, it happens
- 6:26Speaker 1: to every team during the course of the year. But
- 6:28Speaker 1: it couldn't happen at a worst time for the Mets,
- 6:30Speaker 1: with these with these two series against the Braves and
- 6:34Speaker 1: against Philly this weekend. Couldn't happen at the worst time
- 6:37Speaker 1: they got. You know, like I said, they got to
- 6:39Speaker 1: bring up a picture from Syracuse to fill in tomorrow
- 6:42Speaker 1: night for well.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Two pictures I'm hearing. So that's kind of where they're
- 6:48Speaker 4: at right now.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Yeah, No, they have they have some challenges. They do
- 6:54Speaker 1: have some challenges. One team that doesn't have a challenge
- 6:58Speaker 1: and accept and met every challenge are the two times
- 7:02Speaker 1: Stanley cuff back to back champion Florida Panthers.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Who I didn't.
- 7:07Speaker 2: We're going to get there at some point, because obviously
- 7:09Speaker 2: that's the story of the week, is the Panthers defending
- 7:12Speaker 2: and we are. I'm going to put out a call
- 7:14Speaker 2: to Kenny Albert and see if you can join us
- 7:16Speaker 2: next week to be talking about what it would like
- 7:18Speaker 2: to be on that call of the Panthers winning again.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Sam Bennett a much deserving MVP. But I look at
- 7:25Speaker 2: the Oilers, they sort of squandered it away.
- 7:29Speaker 4: I mean, am I wrong to think like that?
- 7:31Speaker 1: I think you might be a little bit wrong to
- 7:33Speaker 1: think like that. They only they were only in the
- 7:35Speaker 1: lead for forty four minutes in the six games, so
- 7:39Speaker 1: the fewest time of any team having a lead in
- 7:44Speaker 1: NHL Stanley Cup Final history. You know it's and I
- 7:49Speaker 1: even thought in game sixty the Oilers played pretty well overall,
- 7:55Speaker 1: but the Panthers hockey was was near perfect. But again,
- 8:00Speaker 1: and Conor McDavid is the best player in the world
- 8:03Speaker 1: by far. It's not arguably the best player, he is
- 8:06Speaker 1: the best player. And he didn't take the bull by
- 8:09Speaker 1: the horns like I thought he was when they went
- 8:12Speaker 1: back to Edmonton two to two. Him and dry Style
- 8:15Speaker 1: were nowhere in game five, and they were nowhere in
- 8:18Speaker 1: game six. You know, I hate to be critical of
- 8:23Speaker 1: these two great players, especially McDavid, but he was only
- 8:29Speaker 1: a plus three in the Stanley Cup and that means
- 8:36Speaker 1: five on five he wasn't getting it done like a
- 8:38Speaker 1: player of that magnitude should. And you know dry Style
- 8:43Speaker 1: was only a plus four. Now they had thirty three
- 8:45Speaker 1: points in twenty two playoff games, but against the Panthers
- 8:48Speaker 1: they were neutralized. And I mean, you got to give
- 8:53Speaker 1: it to the Panthers. You know, Matthew Kutchuka we knew
- 8:58Speaker 1: we sat on a podcast in previous weeks was playing injury.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Well now we've realized after the game when he was
- 9:05Speaker 1: talking to Darren Kang on the eye, he said he
- 9:07Speaker 1: was playing with a torn abductor off the bone. That's painful,
- 9:12Speaker 1: very painful, and he has a hernia. But the guy
- 9:17Speaker 1: is the chuck exemplifies what Edmonton doesn't have. That great
- 9:27Speaker 1: and determination. They don't have that. And you know, you
- 9:31Speaker 1: look at guys like Gustav force Lav. I mean, here's
- 9:34Speaker 1: a guy Forced lab who was put on waivers by
- 9:37Speaker 1: the Carolina Hurricanes and he played a spectacular fifth and
- 9:43Speaker 1: sixth game. I mean, these they had six guys with
- 9:50Speaker 1: twenty points in the playoffs and just smissed by one
- 9:53Speaker 1: because it was an up and coming player who was
- 9:56Speaker 1: tremendous in the playoff had to. Lucisarin had nineteen points,
- 10:01Speaker 1: he was plus eleven. Marshaft was plus seventeen. Cardi Mahge
- 10:06Speaker 1: was plus twelve. These guys are winning players, Alex, They're
- 10:10Speaker 1: winning players. Edmonton doesn't have those guys right now. Now.
- 10:13Speaker 1: That doesn't mean they can't get to the finals next year.
- 10:16Speaker 1: They have to improve the goaltending. But and Florida has
- 10:21Speaker 1: question marks because they have some free agents that they
- 10:25Speaker 1: have to handle. You know, Brad Marschant is thirty seven
- 10:29Speaker 1: years old, but he's a free agent. Was he a
- 10:32Speaker 1: difference maker? He might have been the greatest trade deadline
- 10:37Speaker 1: pickup in the NHL, maybe in the last twenty years
- 10:42Speaker 1: in any sport, almost like cess for this was for
- 10:46Speaker 1: the Mets in twenty fifteen. After they got Sess for this,
- 10:49Speaker 1: they turned everything around. But Marshant, he's a free agent.
- 10:54Speaker 1: He's thirty seven years old. The guy obviously could still play.
- 10:57Speaker 1: He was a Consmefe Trophy candidate. And he's gonna be
- 11:02Speaker 1: a free agent. Are they gonna have room to sign him?
- 11:05Speaker 1: Are they gonna have room to sign Sam Bennett? Oh boy,
- 11:08Speaker 1: he has a guy who wins con smythe and he's
- 11:11Speaker 1: gonna be a free agent. So that's a that's a
- 11:14Speaker 1: guy that they got to look at. And Aaron Ekland
- 11:17Speaker 1: that is also a free agent, and he's gonna get
- 11:20Speaker 1: a lot of offers from a lot of teams because
- 11:22Speaker 1: there aren't that many right hand shooting defensemen at his
- 11:27Speaker 1: caliber around. So Bill's, you know, a terrific general manager
- 11:32Speaker 1: has to find a way to sign at least two
- 11:34Speaker 1: of these guys. Sam Bennett has already said publicly that
- 11:41Speaker 1: the Toronto Maple Leafs don't shouldn't call him because he's
- 11:44Speaker 1: not playing there. Brad Marschaant. That might be a guy
- 11:48Speaker 1: that the Leafs go after because that's the type of
- 11:50Speaker 1: guy that they don't have. But again, they have issues.
- 11:55Speaker 1: They got they gotta look at Mitch Marner. They gotta
- 11:57Speaker 1: see what they're gonna do with John Tavares. So it's
- 12:01Speaker 1: and again it's two weeks away free agency. And the
- 12:04Speaker 1: one thing about NHL free agency, those first two days,
- 12:07Speaker 1: all these guys get they get scooped up.
- 12:10Speaker 4: Remember that.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I mean last year, I remember when well, I guess
- 12:14Speaker 2: he was traded, but Goodrow was, you know, departing from
- 12:18Speaker 2: the Rangers. I mean, last summer was really a killer.
- 12:20Speaker 2: And I also I think I don't know why I'm
- 12:25Speaker 2: thinking of Ross and who signed with the scenes. But
- 12:27Speaker 2: you know, these free agent signings do happen quickly, conspiracy.
- 12:29Speaker 1: They happened quickly. I mean it's you know, free they
- 12:32Speaker 1: call it free agent Frends Day, free agent frenzy on
- 12:35Speaker 1: July first, it really is. So we'll see and let's
- 12:39Speaker 1: face it, ed does Edmonton extend Conor McDavid after July
- 12:45Speaker 1: first this year he has one year left on his deal,
- 12:48Speaker 1: Or does con McDavid become a free agent on July first?
- 12:53Speaker 1: Of twenty twenty six, does Con McDavid say, you know what,
- 12:57Speaker 1: maybe I need to leave Edmonton and start fresh summer.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Who knows what's going through his mind. I don't think
- 13:04Speaker 1: that he's leaving Edmonton. I don't think he's gonna go
- 13:06Speaker 1: to the Toronto Maple Leafs. I don't think he's gonna
- 13:08Speaker 1: go to Boston or the Rangers. I just don't or
- 13:12Speaker 1: the Los Angeles Kings. So I mean, as we sit.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Here, Marnard canceled the whole charity event that made news
- 13:20Speaker 2: in Toronto because oh my god, what does it mean?
- 13:23Speaker 2: He had been doing this charity, I guess for a
- 13:25Speaker 2: few years running, and now it's canceled.
- 13:27Speaker 4: I don't buy into that all that. I just want
- 13:29Speaker 4: to let the process play out, you know, and.
- 13:32Speaker 1: It and it will and it will play out. But
- 13:34Speaker 1: Marns has played his last game for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I mean that that I would almost nine ten percent
- 13:42Speaker 1: certain on.
- 13:44Speaker 2: How about the Sanders enjoying their cup life a second
- 13:47Speaker 2: year in a row. I mean, I saw Barkov was
- 13:50Speaker 2: knocking on his neighbor's door at five in the morning.
- 13:52Speaker 4: I did.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I did see that.
- 13:53Speaker 2: It also brought the cup out at one thirty five
- 13:56Speaker 2: to share with the employees. I love it, and you
- 13:59Speaker 2: know I I of course won Edmonton, but I like
- 14:03Speaker 2: the character of this Panther team.
- 14:05Speaker 4: And as you know, Matthew Kudchuck.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Well, also this other guy was playing with a sliced
- 14:10Speaker 2: open hand, which I find I think that was Barkov
- 14:13Speaker 2: or one of the guys was playing with a slice
- 14:15Speaker 2: open hand Barkoff and he had.
- 14:17Speaker 4: To get glued shut. That's that's quite a story.
- 14:20Speaker 2: But then you have Kodchuck who's also been playing injured
- 14:23Speaker 2: as you call, and yet he's gonna be on the
- 14:26Speaker 2: roster for the Olympics. The guy I don't know, Louis
- 14:30Speaker 2: Hockey players just built different than any other sport.
- 14:33Speaker 1: They're built differently. Their mental capacity is different than any
- 14:36Speaker 1: other sport. And you know, Matthew could Chuck got hurt
- 14:40Speaker 1: in that first game against Canada on that Saturday night,
- 14:44Speaker 1: the game that that team USA won. He got hurt
- 14:47Speaker 1: on that he got hurt in that game. He didn't
- 14:49Speaker 1: he missed the next game because it was meaningless to
- 14:51Speaker 1: the United States, and then played a little bit against
- 14:54Speaker 1: the first two periods against Canada in the championship game.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Tried it in the third period, but and go anymore.
- 15:01Speaker 1: That guy's a warrior, and uh, he's got to be.
- 15:04Speaker 1: And I'm so glad that they named him as one
- 15:06Speaker 1: of the first six guys on the Olympic team, along
- 15:09Speaker 1: with his brother Brady. I'm looking for Alex next February,
- 15:13Speaker 1: those Winter Olympics in Milan, the hockey tournament. I'm going
- 15:17Speaker 1: to be glued to the TV.
- 15:18Speaker 2: It's I'm not missing and the USA Hockey, as you know,
- 15:20Speaker 2: I'm riding a high because you have the sled hockey,
- 15:23Speaker 2: adaptive hockey folks.
- 15:25Speaker 4: I believe take home the gold.
- 15:26Speaker 2: You had the USA hockey team take the world you know,
- 15:30Speaker 2: the Global Cup or whatever they're calling it, for the
- 15:32Speaker 2: first time.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Since they won the World Championships.
- 15:36Speaker 2: I mean, there's a lot of high right now with
- 15:38Speaker 2: Team USA in general, but specifically hockey.
- 15:41Speaker 1: And World Junior team went back to back for the
- 15:44Speaker 1: first time ever. They went back. They went back to
- 15:46Speaker 1: back championships.
- 15:47Speaker 4: So that's why I.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Got MAERUZIONI jersey. I kid you, not like I got
- 15:50Speaker 2: a USA jersey. I had to buy into it.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Well that was a smart move, but a lot of
- 15:56Speaker 1: a lot of stuff is gonna happen in the next
- 15:58Speaker 1: three four weeks with with the hockey season obviously, next
- 16:02Speaker 1: week we see if the Islanders draft Matthew Schaeffer, the
- 16:06Speaker 1: left hand shooting defenseman from the Eerie Otters, or Michael Mesa.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I saw both guys interview on NHL Network and both
- 16:18Speaker 1: young men are very impressive. I think the Islanders are
- 16:22Speaker 1: going to go with the defenseman if you have a
- 16:24Speaker 1: difference making defenseman. He's only seventeen, so he probably won't
- 16:28Speaker 1: be on the Islanders next year, but that will. They
- 16:33Speaker 1: haven't committed to what they're gonna do yet, but it
- 16:36Speaker 1: seems like Michael Messa could start in the NHL next year.
- 16:40Speaker 1: But we'll see. We'll see what happens with with with
- 16:45Speaker 1: the people.
- 16:46Speaker 2: May not know this is you were actually tracking one
- 16:49Speaker 2: of the balls. It was at Boston University Boston College Hockey, right,
- 16:52Speaker 2: because he went up to see some of the games.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and I'm telling you, Alex, there's so many guys
- 16:57Speaker 1: on on that team. Uh. Who are NHL albert players
- 17:03Speaker 1: The Islanders Cole Eiserman. They drafted Cole Eisman last year
- 17:06Speaker 1: with the first pick. He is I think better than
- 17:11Speaker 1: they thought. So when he gets to the NHL. I
- 17:14Speaker 1: don't think it's going to be next year, maybe the
- 17:15Speaker 1: year after that, but he's the guy who could put
- 17:18Speaker 1: the puck in the net. Forward that they need. Lane Hudson,
- 17:21Speaker 1: who I saw play live a couple of times last year,
- 17:25Speaker 1: smallst defenseman. He beat out his Boston University team teammate
- 17:30Speaker 1: Macklin Celabrini for the Calder Trophy and rookie Dear and
- 17:35Speaker 1: he's one of the reasons why the Canadians surprised everybody
- 17:39Speaker 1: and made the playoffs.
- 17:40Speaker 2: By the way, speaking of Calders, shout out to my
- 17:42Speaker 2: friend Jacob who lives in North Carolina. He was actually
- 17:45Speaker 2: watching the Calder Cup final, which was the AHL affiliate
- 17:49Speaker 2: of the Panthers.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Okay, that's incredible, Alex. Just think until the last three years,
- 17:58Speaker 1: the Florida Panthers, in their first twenty years of existence,
- 18:01Speaker 1: had won four playoff series. And let's face it, that
- 18:05Speaker 1: was a franchise that wasn't that fans didn't go to
- 18:08Speaker 1: the arena. Uh. Anytime you watch the game in Florida,
- 18:11Speaker 1: if they were playing the Devils or the Islanders, or
- 18:13Speaker 1: the Rangers, or the Bruins or the Canadians, all of
- 18:17Speaker 1: the visiting fans who migrade to Florida, either full time
- 18:21Speaker 1: or just during the winter time. There were more visiting
- 18:24Speaker 1: team fans there than Florida fans. And Vinie Viola, the
- 18:27Speaker 1: owner of the Panthers, has saved hockey in that Miami
- 18:31Speaker 1: in that graad Miami Miami area. They've won eleven playoff
- 18:37Speaker 1: series in the last three years after winning four in
- 18:39Speaker 1: the first twenty eight and everybody loves them. I mean,
- 18:44Speaker 1: it's been.
- 18:45Speaker 2: There was so much high but I felt like I
- 18:47Speaker 2: was watching Roberta Lomongo in that you know, it's been
- 18:49Speaker 2: that it's been.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Lauongo hit the drum for Game seven last year and
- 18:56Speaker 1: he had the drum ons on Tuesday night, so he's
- 19:00Speaker 1: two and oh and they interviewed him on the ice
- 19:02Speaker 1: after the game and he said he was more nervous
- 19:05Speaker 1: banging the drum than playing in the Stanley Cup Finals,
- 19:08Speaker 1: which he did with the Vancouver Canucks when the when
- 19:11Speaker 1: the Bruins beat them in seven back in twenty eleven.
- 19:15Speaker 1: The only bad thing alex Is and Kenny and al
- 19:19Speaker 1: Chuck and Bouche were spectacular. The production by TNT was spectacular.
- 19:26Speaker 1: The pre and post game was spectacular, but down in
- 19:31Speaker 1: ratings compared to last year because it was on TNT,
- 19:35Speaker 1: not over the air on ABC, and you know that
- 19:40Speaker 1: that's disappointing. I mean that Betman took a couple more
- 19:44Speaker 1: dollars to have the Stanley Cup Final on TNT. I
- 19:49Speaker 1: know we talked about in the past, but it's just
- 19:52Speaker 1: the thing that rankles me because you had you had
- 19:54Speaker 1: a rematch from last year and forty people just didn't
- 20:01Speaker 1: tune in because a lot of people are chord colors,
- 20:04Speaker 1: a lot of people don't want to spend money on streaming,
- 20:07Speaker 1: you know, the whole nine yards, you know, you know
- 20:09Speaker 1: the deal instead of just turning a TV set on
- 20:12Speaker 1: and and going to an over the air network. That's
- 20:15Speaker 1: just me, my little, my little uh uh, I'm up,
- 20:19Speaker 1: I'm upset. I'm upset with that. I mean, last year,
- 20:22Speaker 1: Game seven got just under eight million, and the highest
- 20:27Speaker 1: game in this series was Game six two point eight million,
- 20:31Speaker 1: and all the entire series, you know, averaged about two
- 20:37Speaker 1: point four million compared to last year. Oh and it
- 20:41Speaker 1: was you know, four point three. So whatever, that's my
- 20:44Speaker 1: two cents, And now we get we'll see if the
- 20:46Speaker 1: Oklahoma City Thunder can close out the Winter sports season
- 20:50Speaker 1: to if they can win their second Thailand franchise history
- 20:55Speaker 1: that you know, they won as the Seattle SuperSonics back
- 20:58Speaker 1: in nineteen seventy eight seventy nine. Again that was back
- 21:02Speaker 1: to back. They played the Washington then Bullets. Now they're
- 21:05Speaker 1: the Wizards. They played them in the year before and
- 21:10Speaker 1: they played in seventy eight seventy nine. So uh, you know,
- 21:16Speaker 1: that'll be that'll be interesting that that that Sonic team
- 21:20Speaker 1: was great. They had Jack Sigma, they had Dennis Johnson,
- 21:23Speaker 1: both Hall of famers. They had Gus Williams, a great
- 21:26Speaker 1: player from Mount Vernon, New York, brother Louis.
- 21:29Speaker 2: And this goes game seven, by the way, well they
- 21:30Speaker 2: do a watch party at Fanatics Best for Game seven.
- 21:33Speaker 4: I mean, how cool with oh that?
- 21:35Speaker 1: Who knows, maybe maybe they will, maybe they will, but
- 21:39Speaker 1: that was a great team and they and they played
- 21:41Speaker 1: a great Bullet team that had Bobby Dandridge and Elvin
- 21:44Speaker 1: Hayes and the Great West sunseld. So we'll see if
- 21:50Speaker 1: the Thunder could do it tonight. I have if I
- 21:53Speaker 1: was a betting man, and I'm not, I think the
- 21:56Speaker 1: Thunder will close them out.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Staying in basketball because this went through my desk. There's
- 22:02Speaker 2: a mount rushmore of nets that you wanted to talk
- 22:05Speaker 2: about that I wanted to talk about because the New
- 22:07Speaker 2: York Post comes out with their mount rushmore of nets
- 22:10Speaker 2: and we all love these things of who gets left off,
- 22:12Speaker 2: who gets added on?
- 22:14Speaker 4: What were your takeaways from that?
- 22:15Speaker 2: I have to ask you, mister NBA Nets executive for
- 22:18Speaker 2: twenty eight years.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Well, they were everyone at the Post picked. Obviously we're
- 22:26Speaker 1: fine players. Three of them are Hall of famers in
- 22:29Speaker 1: Julia Serving, Jason Kidd and Vince Carter, and brook Lopez
- 22:35Speaker 1: was drafted tenth. I was asking my last year with
- 22:38Speaker 1: the Nets was his first year. Has had an excellent
- 22:42Speaker 1: career and he's the all time NETS leading scorer. But
- 22:46Speaker 1: that's where I would personally, it's just me where I
- 22:49Speaker 1: would make the change. I saw Buck Williams play the
- 22:53Speaker 1: first first eight years of his career before we traded
- 22:56Speaker 1: in the Portland great competitor for roach, rebounder, never took
- 23:01Speaker 1: a game off. What didn't wasn't the offensive player that
- 23:06Speaker 1: brook Lopez was, but he or you know, besides being
- 23:11Speaker 1: he got over a thousand rebounds as a rookie. He
- 23:14Speaker 1: won NBA Rookie of the year with the Nets in
- 23:16Speaker 1: eighty one eighty two, just and a ferocious one of
- 23:20Speaker 1: the five or six best competitors in the history of
- 23:22Speaker 1: the Nets. So I would put him there or Kenyan Martin.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Kenyan Martin a great defender, a great finisher on the break.
- 23:34Speaker 1: He didn't have a signature shot. He never developed a
- 23:37Speaker 1: signature shot down low. But Alex he can he could
- 23:41Speaker 1: guard multiple positions on one on the same possession. And uh,
- 23:48Speaker 1: when you know you had Jason Kidd running running the break, Uh,
- 23:52Speaker 1: you know, Martin got a lot of dunks and a
- 23:56Speaker 1: lot of layups. And when he got the Max deal
- 23:59Speaker 1: from den we in two thousand and four and left
- 24:04Speaker 1: the Nets, he should have given instead of given a
- 24:06Speaker 1: commission to his agent, he should have given it to
- 24:09Speaker 1: Jason Kidd because Jason.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Actually I think I think he should have been on
- 24:13Speaker 2: there over Brook Lopez, because I do. I I agree
- 24:16Speaker 2: because Kenyan Martin was sort of the hard look. I
- 24:19Speaker 2: know what VC did, but there was something Kenyan Martin.
- 24:21Speaker 2: And I also thought it was kind of interesting because
- 24:23Speaker 2: on the other side at Giants, Adam Curtis Martin, I mean,
- 24:26Speaker 2: those two Martins ran the.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Meadowlands for a little bit there.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Yeah, no they did. And again it's I'm not you know,
- 24:33Speaker 1: I'm not a big fan of lists. I'm not a
- 24:35Speaker 1: big fan of things like this. It's good to talk,
- 24:38Speaker 1: it's it's a great conversation starter. But there's a lot
- 24:41Speaker 1: of guys who were great for the Nets. Guys most
- 24:43Speaker 1: fans have forgotten about Billy Melchioni, who didn't play for
- 24:47Speaker 1: the Nets in the NBA, he was actually the general
- 24:50Speaker 1: manager and uh was a great point guard. You ran
- 24:56Speaker 1: a break, He'd gets you the ball. But there was
- 24:58Speaker 1: a lot of great guys in the ABA. Larry Brown
- 25:00Speaker 1: was a great ABA point guard. Another guy who ran,
- 25:03Speaker 1: who ran a break, who got the key guys the ball?
- 25:07Speaker 1: So uh, you know, these things are tough, you know.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Then you got a team like the Yankees who probably
- 25:12Speaker 1: can fill up what a half a dozen uh Mount
- 25:16Speaker 1: Rushmore because they've had so many great players. But if
- 25:20Speaker 1: if if I had to choose, obviously it's Doc Doctor J.
- 25:24Speaker 1: It's Vince Carter, It's Jason Kidd, the greatest net of
- 25:28Speaker 1: all time in the NBA. Doctor J was the greatest
- 25:31Speaker 1: net all time in the A B A uh, And
- 25:33Speaker 1: the fourth one, I'm gonna I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go. Uh,
- 25:38Speaker 1: I'll split the fourth statue between Kenyan Martin and Buck Williams.
- 25:48Speaker 4: Well, there you go.
- 25:49Speaker 2: And you know, we gotta also see if we can
- 25:50Speaker 2: get the guy who called all those legends, mister Iron Eglon,
- 25:54Speaker 2: because I know he has a lot to say about
- 25:55Speaker 2: this too.
- 25:56Speaker 4: We gotta get him on at some point.
- 25:57Speaker 1: I would I would love to get Iron on.
- 25:59Speaker 2: That would be and uh, you know, pick his brain.
- 26:02Speaker 2: He's doing a sports camp, I believe this year too.
- 26:04Speaker 2: I mean, he and Dave pop In, they all do
- 26:06Speaker 2: their sports camps. It's pretty cool, the announcer camp.
- 26:09Speaker 4: So you know it is.
- 26:10Speaker 1: And you know, I in such a besides being a superstar,
- 26:14Speaker 1: future Hall of Fame, uh, sports announcer, great play by
- 26:18Speaker 1: play guy in so many sports, he's a great human being.
- 26:21Speaker 1: He's a Hall of Fame human being. And uh, that's
- 26:24Speaker 1: a great combination to have.
- 26:26Speaker 2: All right, because Justin Time is sponsoring this Now network
- 26:30Speaker 2: and all that, and we're all so grateful. If there
- 26:33Speaker 2: were one player you suggest to do a camp boy
- 26:35Speaker 2: that introduced him the athlete to the kids, to who
- 26:38Speaker 2: would it be? Mainly with the Yankees, because Justin works
- 26:41Speaker 2: heavily with the Yankees. So is there a guy that
- 26:44Speaker 2: you know can relate to the kids, that can sort
- 26:46Speaker 2: of be that mentor for the next generation.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Well, obviously one, Pops One stands out above everyone because
- 26:54Speaker 1: he's such a besides a great player, I think the
- 26:56Speaker 1: best in the major leagues, he's also as we've talked about,
- 27:00Speaker 1: being a great human being, This guy's a great human being.
- 27:03Speaker 1: An Aaron Judge. Now, I don't know if Aaron Judge
- 27:07Speaker 1: would has the availability and time to do that, but
- 27:11Speaker 1: he would be the natural. But if it's not Aaron Judge,
- 27:15Speaker 1: let's see, you know what, let maybe a young guy,
- 27:20Speaker 1: maybe guy like Anthony Volpe. I know Anthon Phobey is
- 27:22Speaker 1: having some issues now the media has been very hard
- 27:24Speaker 1: on him. But why not a guy like Anthony Volpe.
- 27:27Speaker 1: I mean, he can relate to those young guys. He's
- 27:30Speaker 1: still young, and.
- 27:31Speaker 4: He's great in the community.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Last year on Hope Day's finale, Hope Week's finale, he
- 27:35Speaker 2: was there at the Today's Show Plaza representing the Yankees
- 27:38Speaker 2: or a Hope Week.
- 27:39Speaker 4: So no, he's always been out there in the community.
- 27:42Speaker 2: He was there yesterday shout out to the dugout barn
- 27:45Speaker 2: grill in the Bronx. They had a whole caryo given
- 27:48Speaker 2: for a whole week with the Yankees. So I mean,
- 27:50Speaker 2: look all these during this week, especially as you know
- 27:54Speaker 2: how connected the Yankees are within the community. And then I,
- 28:00Speaker 2: I don't know, I guess I feel like I relate
- 28:01Speaker 2: to it because George Simoner gave me my own kind
- 28:04Speaker 2: of hope, you know, as a baseball kid growing up, because.
- 28:07Speaker 1: He led me to the suite.
- 28:09Speaker 4: I mean, who else can say that. So I feel that.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Kind of synchronicity this week and every hope week that
- 28:15Speaker 2: he also understand I totally I adds a very very good,
- 28:20Speaker 2: very good point that you make. And now look we're
- 28:23Speaker 2: still going to games and the connections are growing, and
- 28:26Speaker 2: thank God for that. And I know my dad and
- 28:28Speaker 2: mister Simon laid that groundwork from a very early age.
- 28:31Speaker 1: So and never forget those memories.
- 28:37Speaker 4: At all.
- 28:37Speaker 2: And I know that right now, everybody's like, this guy
- 28:39Speaker 2: should be fired, this guy should be sent down.
- 28:42Speaker 4: Let's trust the process. Okay, let's just trust the process.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Absolutely, I hate Let's trust the process.
- 28:48Speaker 2: And before I let you go, I Facebook memories is
- 28:52Speaker 2: incredible because it reminded.
- 28:53Speaker 4: Me on this date. CEC's a bad that you one.
- 28:54Speaker 4: It's two hundred and fiftieth game of his career. Of
- 28:58Speaker 4: course he will one more after that in twenty nineteen,
- 29:01Speaker 4: and now he's a Hall of Famer. So there you go.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and I guess next month. I don't know the
- 29:06Speaker 1: exact date. It's usually the last Saturday or next or
- 29:10Speaker 1: the third Saturday in July is induction day. So he's
- 29:14Speaker 1: got to be excited about that. Him and his family
- 29:16Speaker 1: that day is exciting.
- 29:18Speaker 2: And I don't mean to keep you here longer, but
- 29:20Speaker 2: another thought just popped in my head because I know
- 29:22Speaker 2: you have a lot of hockey listeners.
- 29:24Speaker 4: You see what these guys do with the cup.
- 29:25Speaker 2: By the way, my favorite moment was Atchkin bringing to
- 29:28Speaker 2: the Nationalist Park after they won it.
- 29:29Speaker 4: That was pretty cool.
- 29:31Speaker 1: I remember that.
- 29:32Speaker 4: That was awesome. But if you were to win the
- 29:34Speaker 4: Stanley Cup.
- 29:37Speaker 2: As a non executive, as a member of the team, whatever,
- 29:40Speaker 2: how would you spend a day with the Sanley Cup
- 29:41Speaker 2: Louis Boys.
- 29:43Speaker 1: That's a very good question, Alex. I would have to
- 29:45Speaker 1: think about that. But what I would probably do is,
- 29:49Speaker 1: obviously I would call all my friends and probably some
- 29:53Speaker 1: of my relatives who are sports fans to come and
- 29:56Speaker 1: see the cub and maybe I would bring it to,
- 30:01Speaker 1: you know, to a hockey a big time hockey high
- 30:04Speaker 1: school like Del Barton or you know one of the
- 30:09Speaker 1: high schools is down here in Mamas County or up
- 30:11Speaker 1: in Bergen County, something like that for that, for that,
- 30:15Speaker 1: because those kids are trying to make the NHL. And uh,
- 30:19Speaker 1: yeah so or at least play college hockey. But that's
- 30:22Speaker 1: a good question, you get. That's food for thought. Now,
- 30:27Speaker 1: I did take I did take a picture with the
- 30:29Speaker 1: Cup after the Devil's one in nineteen ninety five, a
- 30:32Speaker 1: picture I still have. I don't have the pictures as
- 30:34Speaker 1: many pictures as Alex Garrett has of famous luminaries, but
- 30:40Speaker 1: that that's a picture I do have.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Well, I know my favorite, one of my favorite sports
- 30:44Speaker 2: pictures of my dad touching the Stanley Cup because that
- 30:47Speaker 2: he deserved that moment. Man, he's a Chicago black Hawk
- 30:50Speaker 2: bayan and look out many years he had to suffer
- 30:52Speaker 2: before they finally won fifteen years ago and then a
- 30:56Speaker 2: couple of years later in twenty thirteen, I believe, so.
- 30:59Speaker 1: They won three. They won three uh in six years,
- 31:01Speaker 1: in six seasons.
- 31:03Speaker 2: And uh I see Joe Quinneville is back at the
- 31:05Speaker 2: coaching behind the bench.
- 31:07Speaker 4: I think an anime I could be.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Right, that's corrects an anaym with Chris Krider.
- 31:11Speaker 2: So there you have it, But for now, Louis love
- 31:14Speaker 2: having you as always on Terminlo's take. And I were
- 31:17Speaker 2: you were to ask me about what I would do
- 31:19Speaker 2: with the cup, I would be so nervous to let
- 31:23Speaker 2: it be ruined or something like, well, don't.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Worry about it. You heard, you heard what the Panthers
- 31:27Speaker 1: happened with the Panthers. They dented it, they cracked it
- 31:31Speaker 1: the other night, and uh, the NHL says it's easy
- 31:35Speaker 1: to fix. So they've actually already fixed it, or it's
- 31:38Speaker 1: going to be fixed by the parade down in I
- 31:41Speaker 1: think the parade is in Miami or Mikey in Fort
- 31:43Speaker 1: Lauderdale on Sunday, so they've already fixed it. But the
- 31:46Speaker 1: Cup has been dented and chipped hundreds of times.
- 31:51Speaker 2: And true story, I believe the make Believes are no
- 31:54Speaker 2: longer own the Cup because they've.
- 31:55Speaker 4: Had not won at all.
- 32:00Speaker 2: You go anyway, Yeah, we'll get to that next week
- 32:03Speaker 2: about whether the Edmonton Oilers and the Maple Beliefs their
- 32:06Speaker 2: cores are done or if there's gonna be a re
- 32:09Speaker 2: I know everybody's coming back, because well, we'll have that
- 32:11Speaker 2: conversation next show, because, as you say, free agency is
- 32:14Speaker 2: heating up soon, so we'll have to see absolutely all
- 32:18Speaker 2: right Termino's take, Loue Terminilo.
- 32:20Speaker 4: Always a pleasure, my friend.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Oh thank you, my friend. I love doing it.
- 32:24Speaker 4: Thank you and.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Thanks again justin time for sponsoring these episodes. Moving forward,
- 32:29Speaker 2: pretty big moment today
