- 1:15Race the Adventure of the Fairway Beauties. The Adventures of Prank Race starring Paul
- 1:22Dubob. A war changed many things the base of the Earth and the people
- 1:34on it. Before the war, Frank Race worked as an attorney, but
- 1:40he traded his lawbooks with the Cloak and Tiger of the Os When it was
- 1:44over. His former life was over due. Adventure had become his business,
- 1:49the Adventures of Prank Race, and now we joined Frank Race, while the
- 2:10Adventure of a fair Way Beauty Ralph is a funny game. Usually, if
- 2:21a person applies himself diligently to a sport, he'll eventually come up as a
- 2:24creditable performance. But it's not that way in golf. A few people just
- 2:29have the knack, millions don't. As for Mark Donovan, whoa right?
- 2:38He ranks with the great majority rights. Cause, listen me, by a
- 2:44good inch, it's a good thing. You're duck. I go to that
- 2:49shot and you scullded. Oh look I hit down on a pall just like
- 2:54you said. Remember that term we used during the warmark too little into late.
- 2:59That's the where you hit down on the shot all something. This is
- 3:01the most aggravating game which was ever invented. Little pills standing still A guy
- 3:07can't don't want it? You're doing quite a luck with it, Yeah,
- 3:09but never according to plan. I'm gonna try one more shot. Don't come
- 3:15off. I'm heading for that blackjack game in a caddy tam. Let's try
- 3:19some strategy to get on this period. What do you feel like a hook
- 3:22or slice? Well, you had a slice on the last game, so
- 3:27into the left. That should take it right into the pin over there,
- 3:34straight Mark, let's face it, you haven't hit a straight shot all afternoon.
- 3:38If you really faced it, I ain't never hit a straight shot in
- 3:40my whole life. You've been slicing most of the time. So aim for
- 3:44that pond and watch it paid right onto the cocker. Yep, you see
- 3:57what? Oh race, it's head and right. But the I'm sorry,
- 4:03Mark, I gave you poor advice. The poorest advice you ever gave me
- 4:08is when you talk me into taking up this game. I'm tinis the last
- 4:11focus. It's all in fun. This is what I'm having fun. Look,
- 4:16we've got four more holes to finish. Four ahead, plane plane,
- 4:20See at the clubhouse, I ain't there to take a peke in the caddy
- 4:24pin. But forty five minutes later, as I paid off the caddy on
- 4:30the eighteenth green, I saw I wasn't gonna have to look great far to
- 4:34find Donovan. It planted himself on the practice to you and was goggling and
- 4:39a couple of girls who were hitting shots. Since Mark has excellent taste when
- 4:43it comes to feminine of yor I wandered over them myself. Oh oh,
- 4:48it's you'll right. What happened to the blackjack game? Ain't everything paintings?
- 5:00What's got the lamb? Them boys? And I gotta admit it, it's
- 5:04just kind of place shot. They should be good. Oh they are,
- 5:13no, But I won't pull him down any invitation. So I'm of the
- 5:15deep pan and Zoe Panier. These National Women's Open, an ANC champion that's
- 5:20been for the last three years, British champion two, probably the greatest woman
- 5:26player of gold team. I get that one. Look the teacher, he
- 5:31is nothing but a double Understandford, California. Do you know what these days?
- 5:39I know Zoe Fannier pretty well. I used to look like you,
- 5:42remember, I pray for me. I never get another golf shot, which
- 5:47would be the tragedy of the decade. You're in wonderful forms. I get
- 5:53wonderful pani again over here. Look in California. Plans came down from Vancouver.
- 6:00Been loving Zoe. This is Mark Donovan and this very lovely thing is
- 6:05Barbara's dancer. Do you know? Not nearly as well as I? Oh,
- 6:11brother. Fun. Everything is fun when it's with other men, isn't
- 6:17it, Zoe? He stood off about eight or ten feet from us,
- 6:24judging from the cozy had Annie wasn't there to play golf, These teachers said
- 6:28in a mask of bitterness and bad news with all of them, I didn't
- 6:32know you were. That's nothing new. You're not going to be a problem.
- 6:36Are Oh that's right. You don't like problems. The sweetness and light
- 6:41that's Zoe. Sweetness and light and fun with other men. Tell them to
- 6:46get a lot London, I want to talk to you. Do I get
- 6:50to do it? Or do I turn myself into a really difficult problem?
- 6:55Lady, don't have nothing to do with you. Don't stay out of this
- 6:58chum main nosy bystanders going another with else? No, I don't come on,
- 7:06wait a minute, or you don't have to look at this. Lad
- 7:10puts you around and just what did you do? You like? Nothing is
- 7:14all right and you will know it. But stick around race or whatever your
- 7:17name is a personal interest? What is it? H huh? I'm trying
- 7:30to buy in a family drawl that I didn't know. J always was married
- 7:38about three months ago. Okay, now, certainly years. How about something
- 7:46tall and cool at the bottle on the practice to you at thirty yards.
- 7:56I've been telling myself if this Stamford last would be something worth staying California for
- 8:01the clubhouse tap room at two feet. She made me want to become a
- 8:05native son. What happened to your friend Mark? He's gambling instinct, Bridle
- 8:09said, I have an idea. He's now in the vicinity of the black
- 8:13checks. Right, he's a lot of fun. Love me. That could
- 8:18be a lot of fun fun. Didn't a church you? Oh? What
- 8:22did? Oh? No, I'm not going to give you a lead like
- 8:26that. I'll wait. I'm good at waiting. Are you up to a
- 8:31point of course? Let me get a run down on you. You're here
- 8:35for the high state team, and I suppose it's Seattle and the musession.
- 8:41And I don't think you got to play golf for meat? Anything else you
- 8:46need, I get it. I'll wait, I said, still for a
- 8:52prospect like that? Anytime said still for an interruption? The hate it take
- 9:01a lot of weight, a lot of muscle, a lot of pillar,
- 9:03and a double bust of t stock shop, a look of blind friendliness.
- 9:07Look at the sort of looking good when you mentioned checking the bets in a
- 9:11high stake cooker game. He sat down without waiting for an answer to the
- 9:15question, I'm check Kendley drive with Vick working Vic Mountain, so I wanted
- 9:22to make sure he didn't hurt your feelings at pill. It sounds like a
- 9:26new one. How does the dialogue open here? What you do for newspaper?
- 9:31Boy? Come again? What I you? Or why? But we
- 9:37wouldn't want Vic to get bad as to press. So I'm hey, guy's
- 9:43running for public office? What happened that there could look bad? Ain't you
- 9:48read it? Just the beef that he right? So Victor's running? You
- 9:56know that increas you It thoroughly intreats me. I don't, father, you
- 10:01wouldn't, but you can figures another newspaper man. You want some change.
- 10:11They're a witty brand of cookie anxious. I can see why Vic had an
- 10:16impulse to change your face any more, to say, it's just one thing.
- 10:20Don't go bother and Vic people you wouldn't like it, A lot of
- 10:24people. I know Kendall, you're a tough boy, and you've got a
- 10:26license to prove it. How would you mind leaving us? Imagine? He
- 10:35is quite something else with that thing. She's in love with Larry Myers.
- 10:43I know he's a great call y. Want to get three of it now?
- 10:48And Larry doesn't even know about that. Harry is meeting Jollie's met a
- 10:54dinner. I'm telling you, a sweet swinger, a great competitor, not
- 11:03more than a couple of years away from the National Open Crown. This was
- 11:07the tag the experts at Kin on Larry Myers. As usual, Boise wasn't
- 11:11with him as he came up in that I just got a message that's always
- 11:20standing there. She didn't see anything. He just left word with the bot.
- 11:24I know that you wouldn't be around this evening. I don't know what
- 11:31hard coming exactly, certainly, Am. It was always f near on the
- 11:41other end of the line, and a very tone of a voice said,
- 11:43trouble. Can I see you this evening? It's very abom see you.
- 11:50Larry Myers is here at the clubhouse with help. I don't want Mary knowing
- 11:56I'm a clan Where shall I see you? Image take it? Genties?
- 12:07What time do you want me to come? Really? I'll see you about
- 12:16seven thirty at the Colony Alarms. I found Zoe Panier's apartment on the second
- 12:26floor, but in the hall just outside her door, I was intercepted by
- 12:31a pair of citizens who could have qualified as bounces at a long showman's convention.
- 12:35Where do you think you are going? I can't see that it's any
- 12:37of your affair. I am paying a visit to the lady. Indeed,
- 12:41they see it. Not just now you're enough. I've been walking most of
- 12:48the day. I played golf this afternoon. Then you should be in bu
- 12:50shape. All right, you've had your chance of being dramatic. Decide you
- 13:00once, what did you like actually to live with the riper? Obviously we
- 13:05reached an impact, but I still intend to pay my respect to the lad.
- 13:09Nick. He did this pigeon down the stairs, true og Nick moved
- 13:16his mask towards me, reaching out the thick arms. There's an open invitation
- 13:18for a wrist lot, so I obliged, twisted quickly and flipped him,
- 13:24and I had Aggie to handle a good man with his fists. I took
- 13:26one of the year that sent me lurching for the stairs, but I got
- 13:28one back, and Aggie went down only for a second. Though he wrenched
- 13:33up came at me. I went to one knee and I comes on here
- 13:41anyway. This guy he was, he was just doing like you said.
- 13:48Then he gets tough, the put him moved the stairs. This is getting
- 14:01repetitious. It came as the Zoe Premier. If you have any idea of
- 14:05trying to stop me, you can say it. The apartment had been decorated
- 14:16to match the architecture and early American motif. I had a look around noticed
- 14:22that the papper lamp hanging from the green ceiling had been badly dented by something.
- 14:26I tripped over a tear on the hooked rug as I moved deeper into
- 14:28the room. That's a very nice Where's Zoe? But she's here, but
- 14:37she's not going to say anything. No, why not because somebody just cut
- 14:43her throat. We'll return to the Adventures of Frank Race And just about one
- 14:56minute now, back to the Adventures. All prank right. They scrawled on
- 15:13the kitchen floor and head almost under the tab, one of her legs still
- 15:16double rotesquely and the death back in there. So we from the greatest woman
- 15:22golfer of all time. You like that? I don't, and noons a
- 15:28WEE could quite a while this won't qualify when I know, how do you
- 15:33think it makes me feel? I don't know. How does it make you
- 15:37feel? Come on out? We have a little rice. I've got the
- 15:41pink straight at two straight. I'm not going to be able to read a
- 15:43little bit. Alvin. The police, I don't suppose they've been notified.
- 15:50And if they have, somebody else did at the sides move I'll call them
- 15:54now. Put down that phone, right, I can't stop you from getting
- 15:58lost, Melbourne? Would you feel like it? He said? Put down
- 16:02the phone, trying to think fancy in the next slap of do with this
- 16:08pistol? Alvin? Who have ferment cage? Just watch it? But so
- 16:15the objection if I rubbed my drawer, you didn't get up sit on the
- 16:18divan like that? Back seems to slow down my metabolis in a few points.
- 16:25Make good use of those shoulders, Melbourne. The snake punch. You
- 16:29know, I had very an interesting case study, Victor. Where do we
- 16:33go from here? I'm my girl's husband. Got a hunch you up?
- 16:38I know it didn't take having pairing a torch took a long time even gout
- 16:47that too, And you think that maybe I killed a lot of people are
- 16:52gonna think that. Yes, that's why we have to figure out you left
- 16:57me behind with that. I checked up on a race, checked up this
- 17:00afternoon just because I saw you with Zoe. I found out what you do
- 17:06right, not the kind of smart boys think you couldn't on the wall.
- 17:10I still don't get what you're driving at. I want you to do something
- 17:12for you. I want you to go and talk to a certain men in
- 17:15this time, asking you to promise to go and talk to him before you
- 17:19would say anything, Please, don't nothing. I get up and leave,
- 17:26and you be expecting he'll be expecting you. His name is Sylvester Painter.
- 17:37Sounds for media. It should. He's mayor of the city Invester Painter.
- 17:47I remember the spread about him I've seen in the National magazine. He resigned
- 17:49his office during the war to get into the service. You've been reelected in
- 17:53forty eight. He greeted me with a look of intentness and the firm handshake.
- 17:59Get that right, I he's finished talking to Vic. I may as
- 18:03well confess that I haven't the faintest ideas to what this is all about.
- 18:07It's about a lot mostly of Vic Malvin. How long have you been in
- 18:12town five or six days and you probably know what we've been full then,
- 18:17yst we've had with police department corruption. Yes, right, And I'm going
- 18:21to jump back to Vick. He used to be a cop, youngest captain
- 18:26of detective in the history of the Wars. He served in the same theater
- 18:30of operations that I didn't do in the war. Oh, a lot of
- 18:33stuff has been said about what I did over there, and then I started
- 18:37out as a major, ended up a lieutenant colonel. Vick began as a
- 18:41captain, ended up a full journal and did it with combat duty. And
- 18:47this is the man who carries around a couple of boys who don't mind roughing
- 18:49people up where you see, Vick has been running for political office and he's
- 18:53picked eup a set of hangers on who become a trifle over zealous at times.
- 19:00They didn't pull guns on you today, No, I would think of
- 19:03it. They didn't. Well, this morning I concerned with the Police Commission
- 19:07regarding our present emergency. I made the point that there was only one man
- 19:11equipped to become our new chief of Police, Vic Mountain. And it's my
- 19:15belief that the Commission is ready to appoint him cut a situation. Yes,
- 19:21but I'm sticking by a VIC. When we talked over the poem just now,
- 19:25I asked him flatly he was guilty of his wife's murder. He said
- 19:30he'd had nothing to do with him. I believe him, So where do
- 19:33I fitt him? I want this murder cleared up and passed. I want
- 19:37a special man for the job. You you don't think you'll just be working
- 19:41for VIC Mountain. I'm told he called me twice to night. The first
- 19:47time he wanted me to give up on him, get about making him cheat.
- 19:51I told him what I'm telling you. If I can't turn to him,
- 19:55I don't know where I can do. I don't have weeks to look
- 19:57on I've it's got to be done quickly before real demoralization set seem. That's
- 20:03why I want to clean the look out for Melbourne? How about it?
- 20:11What could I say? Later? When I told Mark Donald about the assignment,
- 20:15he shook his head. Are you leading with your chain race? How
- 20:18do you know what's behind it? Dear? Let it a little be sticky
- 20:22in a hot lolly pop and the kid's here, And besides, how are
- 20:25we going to get into golf? Would you want a case. Speaking of
- 20:27golf reminds me of someone I could see lad by the name of Larry Myers.
- 20:32Right now, it's almost ten o'clock. Probably a good time to get
- 20:34him. I'll catch you later, Mark, Yes, my name is Race.
- 20:48Remember at the club? Remember? Oh? Yeah, certainly I'd like
- 20:52to talk to you a few minutes of Myers? Why sure you at the
- 20:56money? Yeah? What's on your mind? So away for an air?
- 21:02No, I thought you might be interested in the fact she's dead dead zu
- 21:11did? It rocked him like a sense that he wasn't acting. They couldn't
- 21:18tell me much. He'd been too numb by the revelation. So I called
- 21:22him a day and went home at right, had better luck than I did.
- 21:34What I sp Well, that's always encouraging to hear you had a date
- 21:40with a very pretty thing that all I had a barbers stand. I'm going
- 21:48to join her at the townhouse. Did you think that I give it a
- 21:49load down on the whole day. I'll give her a big pitch about the
- 21:52mayor himself calling you in on a big case. But she said I could
- 21:56drop dead with me doing axplan helay she nobody, Man, Marcus, you're
- 22:03indispensable. Dig me out a clean shirt, William, one of those new
- 22:06tides. You have a smile for me, And it was in her eyes
- 22:18as well, so I felt I rated. But almost at once she asked
- 22:22me to take her somewhere else. I've been here so long, raised many
- 22:26smiles of sympathy, all for men. I bet those weren't smiles of sympathy,
- 22:30baby, they were muted wolf calls. All right, we'll hit for
- 22:33another spot. Where will it be? I'll leave a team. While we
- 22:38were deciding, I was paid for a phone call. Turned out to be
- 22:41Mark Donovan at the other end. But trying to get through your last twenty
- 22:45minutes, you paid shadow. How do you know what when you lived?
- 22:48Here's the guys. Thank got across the street. You can kind of carps?
- 22:56Oh something else, Harry Meyers quope, we don't know where you was.
- 23:00Ill be all right? Thanks Mark. I seem to make you wait
- 23:10and wait, don't I It's all right. Let's look at that fountain across
- 23:15the street, like to wade. Let's go, let's run. Hey,
- 23:23you're fast, do you make me step? Oh? This is gonna be
- 23:27marks on my shoes. I think I'll take mine off too. Hey,
- 23:32this grass is a little dad for sitting down, I said, Car,
- 23:37it's tacking hadly yesterday. Great, I see you all right, Yeah,
- 23:47I'm all right here, I'll help you out. Yeah, I'm alright.
- 23:52I brought my thought sharply back to business. It's okay with you. I
- 23:55like to go somewhere else before we hit that nightclub. Okay with you,
- 23:59Zoe. When here's apartment I have an idea that we might find something there
- 24:03that could throw a little light on her murder. Would he be able to
- 24:12get into trouble there? I've had a special officer by the mayorsh no idea,
- 24:26Zoe. How someone who just left cigarettes the would have been disappointed that
- 24:41that hadn't been in this closet. It's golf club, of Zoeys. What
- 24:47did I have something to do with? They did at lamp up there?
- 24:49That is how it standed. And take a look at that turn in the
- 24:52carpet. Someone was making practice swings evidently got out of the room. My
- 25:00idea that someone waited, get for Zoe waited a while. They waited the
- 25:06practice swings with this poor comfortable hit that way A good golfer who suddenly turned
- 25:12nervous on hearing Zoe at the door, I wouldn't handle the club in the
- 25:18place. I want to be able to testify that this club wasn't touched after
- 25:22I found it yours, Honey, You didn't say anything, just stared at
- 25:30making under those lovely lashes of hers, and I knew i'd hid it.
- 25:34Often a runner up would very seldom of winning. That's the way the records
- 25:38read. When it came to the name of Barbara Standford, all because of
- 25:41the girl called Zoe Premier. Barbara hadn't been able to take it an adventure.
- 25:49I could have put them on the club at anytime. No, honey,
- 25:52when we came in, you try to put across the idea that this
- 25:55was your first time here. Remember, I'm sorry ten years apart for you
- 26:00girls. Either way you could have been cleaned your backs right, It won't
- 26:10make any difference. Chicken, where so it was kendalled you're hired to gun
- 26:17me down? Do that too? Did you pretty hard to miss it?
- 26:21You'd never have noticed that car unless you've been looking for it. I reflect
- 26:25it aren't bad if you hit the ground before I did. Oh no,
- 26:32which makes the case with the lock more go rot your antick. Let me
- 26:37leave before you do anything. My head chicken. You want someone? Who
- 26:51are you? Oh? There, we were lucky. He was trying to
- 27:00shoot in two directions at once. Oh, don't get listens, lady,
- 27:03stick with us. I hide all that evidence. You know somehow I ain't
- 27:10happy a partners. I'm not happy about it, Adam Mark, what's your
- 27:14reason? Well, are you going to think of it? Taking a babe
- 27:17like this one? Not a psych nation. It's an awful waste of talent.
