- 0:10Volatility , and it is 6 am on Thursday , October 9th , 2025 , Pacific time .
- 0:17We are seeing a market that is simultaneously setting alltime highs while nervously checking the news for signs of inflation and fiscal chaos .
- 0:25Let’s dive into what’s driving the tape this morning .
- 0:29In short , the market is firmly ' riskon , ' but it is highly concentrated .
- 0:34The S&P 500 is trading around 6,753 , up 0.58% , but the real star is the Nasdaq Composite , surging over 1.12% , showcasing the market's laser focus on growth and technology .
- 0:53Sector leadership is clear : Information Technology , tracked by the XLK fund , is crushing it , up 1.75% , thanks to the relentless AI boom .
- 1:05We also saw the typically defensive Utilities sector , XLU , surprisingly strong , up 0.71% , potentially indicating a bit of defensive rotation amid the uncertainty .
- 1:19On the flip side , Energy , XLE , is down 0.56% , and Financials , XLF , are under pressure , dropping nearly half a percent amid potential slowdown fears and expected Federal Reserve rate cuts .
- 1:33The biggest driver for individual stocks remains massive AI infrastructure spending .
- 1:38We saw Advanced Micro Devices , or AMD , surge over 11% in a single day after announcing a crucial deal with OpenAI , confirming the institutional commitment to AI .
- 1:52Similarly , Dell Technologies , DELL , jumped 9% after raising its longterm outlook based on this massive AI opportunity .
- 2:00However , not everyone is coasting ; Oracle , ORCL , dipped more than 2% due to reports of high costs and challenges in renting necessary Nvidia chips , showing that AI integration is not cheap or easy .
- 2:14On the macro front , we have a conflicting picture .
- 2:18The good news is the market is highly confident the Federal Reserve will implement a 25 basis point interest rate cut soon , which highly supports stock valuations .
- 2:29The bad news ?
- 2:31The ongoing U.S.
- 2:32government shutdown is delaying crucial economic data , forcing the Fed to fly blind and raising fiscal uncertainty .
- 2:41This tension is why gold , tracked by SPDR Gold Shares , or GLD , topped 4,000 per ounce for the first time ever — a clear safe haven signal amid political concerns .
- 2:53How do we trade this bifurcated market ?
- 2:55We have three main recommendations .
- 2:57First , you must maintain exposure to the AI leaders .
- 3:01The secular trend is robust .
- 3:03Use the Invesco QQQ Trust , QQQ , for core growth allocation , or the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund , XLK .
- 3:13If you have the risk tolerance , direct exposure to names like Advanced Micro Devices , AMD , continues to reward based on these massive infrastructure deals .
- 3:24Second , don't ignore the defensive signs .
- 3:28With rate cuts expected and macro uncertainty high , consider rotating some capital into income and defensive sectors .
- 3:37We like the Utilities Select Sector SPDR Fund , XLU , because its dividend yield becomes more attractive when the 10year Treasury yield is sitting around 4.13% .
- 3:48For conservative hedging , keep the Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF , BND , in your portfolio , as bond prices should rise with expected rate cuts .
- 3:59Finally , Recommendation three : Insurance .
- 4:03Given the government shutdown and rising fiscal concerns , maintain a small , strategic position in SPDR Gold Shares , GLD , to hedge portfolio risk against the backdrop of rising sovereign debt and political uncertainty .
- 4:19That’s our take for today .
- 4:21Stay disciplined , and we’ll talk again soon .
