- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Welcome to another episode of the Five Minute Parenting Podcast.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Karen Ferguson, wife, mom, grandmom, and children's book author with a background in K-8 education and a passion for equipping parents to raise confident and God-confident kids.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: In this podcast, we'll cover parenting practices from both a practical view and a biblical view.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Our goal is to help you raise kids with a positive, godly self-image so they can become all they were created to be.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: I know you're busy, so we'll keep it short.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Let's take just five minutes and dive in.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Hello, parents, grandparents, and caregivers.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Welcome to another episode of Five Minute Parenting.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Today we're talking about the power of praying God's word over our children.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: It sure seems like our children are targets these days, doesn't it?
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: The media, entertainment industry, even the public school system.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: There seems to be an all-out assault to deceive, confuse, and destroy our children from the womb all the way up through college.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Now that might sound a bit melodramatic, but have you turned on Netflix lately or walked into a bookstore?
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: So many confusing, ungodly messages and images that I couldn't have imagined would be accepted, you know, much less promoted just 10 years ago.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: It's like there's a fascination with evil and it's being shoved down our kids' throats.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Now I am more sensitive when it comes to books and entertainment choices because I'm what you would call a highly sensitive person.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: It's a real term.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: And I raised two highly sensitive girls, which just means that certain images and content can get stuck in our brains.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: I call it like mud on a pig and negatively affect our moods and attitudes and even cause nightmares.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: I also encountered some supernatural circumstances as a young girl that affected me very deeply, which is another topic for another day.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: But as an adult, I've worked really hard to guard my heart, my children's hearts, and now my grandkids' hearts by not entertaining things that might open the door to disturbing ideas and images.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: But I know a lot of people who are much more liberal in what they watch and allow their children to watch, and they have concerns too.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: It really does feel like a spiritual war with our kids as the target.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: So, what can we do?
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: We can put on the whole armor of God and we can go into battle for our kids.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: And one of those powerful weapons is the word of God.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: We can pray the word of God over our kids because there is power in prayer.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: But you know what's even more powerful than prayer?
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: Praying specifically from God's word.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Jesus knew the power of the word when he used it in the wilderness to defeat Satan's temptations.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: But I don't know about you.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: I sometimes grow weary in prayer when I don't see answers right away, or when I continue to see so much darkness, when I'm praying for the light of Christ to shine, I can begin to wonder if my prayers matter.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And maybe you feel the same way.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: I think we all go through that at certain times.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: But it's at those times that we need to remind ourselves what the Bible says about prayer.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: It says God listens to us when we pray in Jeremiah, Jeremiah 29, 12.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: It says our prayers please God in Proverbs 15, 8.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: And it says our prayers are powerful and effective in James 5, 16.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: There is a timing to God's answers that is higher than ours, but Jesus gave us a clear illustration that reminded us we must be persistent in our prayers and not give up.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: And you'll find that in Luke 18, 1 to 8.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: And in fact, you'll find all of these scripture references in the in the show notes.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: But there, these are only a few of the verses that talk about how important prayer is.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: So the next time you start to feel weary, open up your Bible and remind yourself that your prayers do matter.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: They are seeds of goodness that God will use to grow a harvest of good fruit in our families and in this nation.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: So let's keep praying.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: And let's keep praying the word of God over our kids because it says in Isaiah 55, 11, one of my favorite verses, it says, It is the same with my word.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: I send it out and it always produces fruit.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: So I have a free resource for you in the show notes to help you begin to pray the word of God specifically in a specific way over your kids.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: I call it prayers for raising positive, godly children in a hostile, ungodly world.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: It's 14 powerful prayers that align directly with the Bible about important character qualities that we all would like to see in our kids.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Qualities like boldness, diligence, discernment, faith, forgiveness, and more.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: So be sure to check out the show notes and download your copy.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: It's completely free.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: But more than anything, keep praying for your kids.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Keep covering them in the promises of God in the Bible.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: There is power in prayer, especially when it aligns with God's word.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: So let's keep praying, moms, dads, grandparents, and caregivers.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Well, that's it for today.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: I hope you were encouraged.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: And I hope you join us next week for another episode of five minute parenting.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Until then, have a blessed week.
