- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett. Hello, Big
- 0:12Speaker 1: Blue Nation. Welcome to Just the Cats on this Wednesday,
- 0:18Speaker 1: October 21st. I know I'm trying to prepare myself for
- 0:21Speaker 1: you to yell in my ear, and I'm stumbling over
- 0:24Speaker 1: what I'm supposed to say next because, okay, get yourself ready.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I know I was ready for it yesterday, and I'm like,
- 0:30Speaker 1: it's Wednesday. To me, Justin Kalen, good morning, by the way.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Good morning. What if we just had a trick one
- 0:37Speaker 1: day where we just said, It's Thursday the entire show,
- 0:40Speaker 1: and it's really Wednesday.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Well, that basically did happen yesterday. Because not only did
- 0:47Speaker 2: you come in and be like, happy Wednesday or whatever
- 0:49Speaker 2: you said.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Right.
- 0:50Speaker 2: John Spears comes in and says the exact same thing.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Oh, did he really? And I'm like, what is wrong
- 0:55Speaker 1: with you all? It's Tuesday. I think it would be
- 0:59Speaker 1: funny just to say, have a great Thursday, everybody. I
- 1:03Speaker 1: just keep it Thursday all day long.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Yeah, but I feel like phones are so prevalent now
- 1:07Speaker 2: that You always know what day it is. So I
- 1:10Speaker 2: don't know how many people would get.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, you're right. That's like, well,
- 1:14Speaker 1: let me go check this. But I all day. I'm
- 1:17Speaker 1: not kidding. The entire day. I thought it was Wednesday yesterday.
- 1:21Speaker 1: No good. And I went to bed and it's like, okay,
- 1:23Speaker 1: what day is this? And it's like, ah, crap, man.
- 1:26Speaker 1: It's only going to be Wednesday tomorrow. So anyway, but yeah.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Like I said yesterday, now you got to work six days. Well,
- 1:32Speaker 1: you're right. I do. And you know what? We got
- 1:34Speaker 1: two hours of gibberish coming up right now, according to
- 1:37Speaker 1: one texter. So I hope you listen to the gibberish
- 1:41Speaker 1: I'm getting ready to talk about. You know, Bennett talks gibberish.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I mean, admittedly. Yes. When you were spewing that out,
- 1:50Speaker 1: I kind of thought it was gibberish, too. Oh, come on!
- 1:52Speaker 2: I mean, I guess the sentiment's all good, but I
- 1:55Speaker 2: don't see a.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Reason to honor... A Rosarena or even. Oh, you would. Oh,
- 2:00Speaker 1: come on. If you won an award, you would be
- 2:03Speaker 1: thanking your mom or dad or your best friend or
- 2:05Speaker 1: something like that. You did something really big. Stop it.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Why in the ALCS?
- 2:10Speaker 2: Why not wait till the World Series when you're in
- 2:12Speaker 2: control of that game and know you're going to the
- 2:14Speaker 2: World Series?
- 2:14Speaker 1: It's a big deal. That's because this is a little
- 2:18Speaker 1: team that doesn't. Get to go to these kind of
- 2:21Speaker 1: events all the time. I understand that.
- 2:23Speaker 2: But if you know you're going to win that game,
- 2:25Speaker 2: why not save it for the World Series? Isn't that
- 2:28Speaker 2: a bigger deal? Well, I would agree with you on
- 2:33Speaker 2: maybe if it's the series. What's the one before called?
- 2:37Speaker 2: I know it's not the division series, but I know
- 2:42Speaker 2: to me it's kind of silly to celebrate division series.
- 2:46Speaker 2: To me, it's a big deal to go from the
- 2:49Speaker 2: ALCS into the World Series. That's a big deal. I
- 2:53Speaker 2: don't disagree with you.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Just like winning your regional in the NCAA tournament. I
- 3:00Speaker 1: think that's a big deal to get into the Final Four.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So I think it's a big deal to celebrate going
- 3:06Speaker 1: from the ALCS to the World Series. Anyway, that's just
- 3:11Speaker 1: kind of how I feel. That's okay. You don't have
- 3:12Speaker 1: to feel that way. I don't. Okay. No worries. Your
- 3:15Speaker 1: team's not in it. Mine is. My team will never
- 3:18Speaker 1: be in it. And you know what? The sad part
- 3:21Speaker 1: about it, I kind of feel like is this the
- 3:22Speaker 1: last time I'll ever see the Rays in the World Series? No.
- 3:25Speaker 1: You don't think so? I do. Weren't they just in
- 3:28Speaker 1: it six years ago? They were in 2020. You're right. Yeah. No,
- 3:31Speaker 1: this won't be the last time. I don't know. Unless
- 3:33Speaker 1: you don't have long left. You got something to tell us? Oh,
- 3:35Speaker 1: my gosh. No, I don't have any.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Don't even ask me that question. I mean, you said
- 3:39Speaker 2: that like you got bad news yesterday.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Well, I will say my last birthday has kind of
- 3:45Speaker 1: bothered me a little bit. Why? Just because, like, wow,
- 3:48Speaker 1: that's a big number. It's just, it is 61 years old.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I am 61. And I feel like I'm 21. I
- 3:57Speaker 1: do not feel my age. Wait till you turn 69.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Corey Price won't even wish you happy birthday. He'll just
- 4:02Speaker 1: say nice. Exactly. He'll just, nice. Oh, geez. But anyway,
- 4:06Speaker 1: but yeah, thank you, Texter. I will be speaking gibberish
- 4:09Speaker 1: for the next two hours. So there's five more minutes
- 4:13Speaker 1: of gibberish right there for you. But anyway. Yeah, I'm
- 4:15Speaker 1: ready for this Wednesday. There's all kinds of stuff going on,
- 4:20Speaker 1: which makes me happy. And this is the time of
- 4:25Speaker 1: year you got baseball. You now have NBA going on.
- 4:28Speaker 1: You have college basketball going on. And plus you got
- 4:31Speaker 1: college football going on. And it is fun to get
- 4:34Speaker 1: out there and you start reading about UK football. Because
- 4:38Speaker 1: normally this time of year, we are reading basketball. And
- 4:41Speaker 1: it's 90%, 95% all basketball. This year, I would estimate
- 4:48Speaker 1: it's probably 96%, 97% football. I wouldn't go that high. Really?
- 4:56Speaker 1: I mean, it's definitely north of 70. Maybe north of 80.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I was going to say, come on, give me 80.
- 5:03Speaker 1: But it's a lot of only football. And here comes
- 5:08Speaker 1: the news now because I predicted this a couple of
- 5:12Speaker 1: days ago that they were going to start coming after
- 5:15Speaker 1: Will Stein. You know, there's a report that there's alumnus
- 5:18Speaker 1: and boosters at the University of Texas now looking into
- 5:21Speaker 1: getting rid of Steve Carseesian and wanting to go after
- 5:26Speaker 1: Will Stein. And this is going to be the narrative
- 5:30Speaker 1: now the next, what, two or three months? We're going
- 5:34Speaker 1: after Will Stein. We got an open checkbook. We'll get him.
- 5:37Speaker 1: And I do laugh at it because I don't see him.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Of any place that he would go to, I would
- 5:45Speaker 1: never see him going to Texas. I don't see him leaving.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Or Michigan. I don't see him leaving, period. Do you not? No.
- 5:53Speaker 2: The day will come when he leaves. I mean, yeah,
- 5:55Speaker 2: maybe when he's here for. 10, 15 years. Oh, you
- 5:59Speaker 2: think that long?
- 6:00Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe. Wow. I don't know.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Maybe he gets the feeling he overstayed his welcome or
- 6:04Speaker 2: has a bad season or something.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I'm sure maybe he'll leave. But I don't think– I
- 6:08Speaker 1: really don't think he will. I mean, does that add
- 6:10Speaker 1: more pressure when you win right off the bat at
- 6:13Speaker 1: a new head coaching position? Or do you think it's
- 6:16Speaker 1: better for the coach to build up? I think it
- 6:18Speaker 1: makes it easier. Really? If you win right away.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, because you're going to– Because recruiting is
- 6:22Speaker 2: so much better? Recruiting is going to be better. You're
- 6:24Speaker 2: going to get more support from– boosters and people who
- 6:28Speaker 2: can build your program up monetarily.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Yeah. I just, I think winning early is, is the
- 6:33Speaker 1: way to go. You think there's going to be boosters
- 6:35Speaker 1: out there. It's like, man, you know what? I've never
- 6:37Speaker 1: been really a Kentucky fan, but I'm going to be
- 6:40Speaker 1: now because of what Will Stein is doing. It's just
- 6:42Speaker 1: absolutely contagious. I know for a fact that'll happen. Really?
- 6:46Speaker 2: Mark Cuban had never given any money to Indiana for NIL.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Right. And then last year, he gave a ton to
- 6:52Speaker 1: the football program. Did he? Because they were winning. And
- 6:55Speaker 1: look at that. It did absolutely nothing. I mean, now
- 6:57Speaker 1: they're a good gosh. They have won. Just got them
- 7:00Speaker 1: a championship. What the heck? They lost a game to
- 7:03Speaker 1: Ohio State. I mean, the program is plummeting. I'm just
- 7:06Speaker 1: going to tell you right now. Be prepared. I use
- 7:09Speaker 1: number coming back. They're not recovering from any of this.
- 7:13Speaker 1: As you know, I'm being facetious. Until we have Kenny
- 7:16Speaker 1: Minchey next year. Oh, my gosh. It sounded like a
- 7:22Speaker 1: cigarette laugh. No, listen, because I think you're right. I
- 7:27Speaker 1: think there are going to be boosters out there that
- 7:29Speaker 1: were possibly not even UK fans that are going to
- 7:33Speaker 1: be giving them to Will Stein in the program. And
- 7:37Speaker 1: it's just, it makes it a lot of fun. I
- 7:39Speaker 1: just saw the uniforms they're wearing this weekend. We're going
- 7:42Speaker 1: to talk about that in a little bit. I'll go
- 7:44Speaker 1: ahead and let's talk about it now. They're horrible. I
- 7:47Speaker 1: wondered what you were going to say about this. Yeah.
- 7:50Speaker 1: So they introduced yet again another new uniform for the
- 7:55Speaker 1: game against Vanderbilt this weekend. All right. So if you
- 7:58Speaker 1: haven't seen it yet, it's gray jersey with royal blue
- 8:02Speaker 1: lettering or numbers and then with royal blue outline and
- 8:08Speaker 1: then you got gray pants. Now, I do like the helmets.
- 8:12Speaker 1: They're a royal blue that has the blue that's matted.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Do you like the matted paint jobs?
- 8:20Speaker 2: I do like the matted look. Yeah, like the black
- 8:23Speaker 2: ones last week. Those were kind of cool. Although, I
- 8:26Speaker 2: don't know if I mentioned this to you or not,
- 8:27Speaker 2: but as excited as I was about those jerseys, I
- 8:31Speaker 2: think I just said this on my show.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Okay. I didn't think they looked good on TV. I
- 8:35Speaker 1: didn't think they looked good at all. In fact, there
- 8:37Speaker 1: are times that I couldn't tell. Is that Kentucky or
- 8:39Speaker 1: is that... Oklahoma. Yeah, it just didn't look like Kentucky.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I really had a struggle with it. So, yeah, I
- 8:48Speaker 1: didn't like the black. I'm just going to come out
- 8:50Speaker 1: and tell you right now, I did not like the black. Now,
- 8:54Speaker 1: the Giants, the New York Giants are famous for wearing
- 8:56Speaker 1: these kind of gray uniforms. And I always kind of
- 8:59Speaker 1: liked them. But I don't know. It still goes back to, hey, guys,
- 9:04Speaker 1: our colors are blue and white. Why do we keep
- 9:07Speaker 1: going off the color scheme of our school and going
- 9:11Speaker 1: with the black, the gray? So which do you think
- 9:14Speaker 1: is worse? And if you don't like the gray, and
- 9:16Speaker 1: you kind of like the black, I mean, are you going,
- 9:19Speaker 1: I feel like you've gone back on the black and
- 9:21Speaker 1: you don't like it. Well, looks wise, I mean, when
- 9:23Speaker 1: I saw the picture, I loved the black. Yeah. I
- 9:25Speaker 1: just didn't think it played very well on TV. Yeah.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Now, these I've, I've come out and I've said, I
- 9:30Speaker 2: don't like now watch me watch the game on Saturday.
- 9:34Speaker 2: And sure enough, I think they look good on TV.
- 9:36Speaker 2: That's how it'll go.
- 9:38Speaker 1: We need to go back and see which uniforms they
- 9:40Speaker 1: played a war against Alabama. And we need to burn them. Exactly.
- 9:45Speaker 1: And not wear those again and continue to wear the
- 9:47Speaker 1: ones they continue. They still win it. So I don't know. I,
- 9:52Speaker 1: I guess they're fine. I like the helmet. I like
- 9:55Speaker 1: the black helmet. I like the blue helmet. I probably
- 9:57Speaker 1: like the blue helmet more because that's our color. But...
- 10:00Speaker 1: do you like it when IU goes away from their
- 10:02Speaker 1: crimson and cream?
- 10:05Speaker 2: In football, they don't do it all that often. I
- 10:08Speaker 2: don't recall them doing a black or a gray or
- 10:12Speaker 2: anything like that in football.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Did they do it in basketball? They've got a
- 10:16Speaker 1: black uniform in basketball that I am in love with. Oh, really? Okay.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I think it looks incredible. Fair enough. So, well, we'll
- 10:23Speaker 1: see how these do. If I had a choice, I
- 10:27Speaker 1: would probably pick the gray. As I've mentioned before, I
- 10:31Speaker 1: don't even have anything black in my closet. I just
- 10:35Speaker 1: don't wear black. I've never liked it. Black is, to me,
- 10:39Speaker 1: something you wear to funerals. Now, I have black suits,
- 10:44Speaker 1: dark suits, but that's it. It's like I don't want
- 10:47Speaker 1: to go to a funeral. That's always kind of how
- 10:49Speaker 1: I felt about black. So there you go. There's my
- 10:53Speaker 1: uniform description right there. I associate black with louder than loud. Oh,
- 10:59Speaker 1: that's a good description right there. Yes. Heavy metal people
- 11:03Speaker 1: wear black, don't they? Why is that? Why do heavy
- 11:07Speaker 1: metal people that go to Louder Than Life, all they wear,
- 11:10Speaker 1: their makeup is black if they're wearing, you know, if
- 11:13Speaker 1: it's a lady, and they have eyeliner black, their hair
- 11:17Speaker 1: is dyed black, they have black leather pants or dresses on,
- 11:22Speaker 1: black boots. Why is that? It's a great question. I
- 11:26Speaker 1: don't know.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Because I'm like you, I've never really been, now I'll
- 11:30Speaker 2: wear black, like I'll wear a black t-shirt or black
- 11:32Speaker 2: sweatpants or black shorts or whatever, but yeah, I'm not,
- 11:36Speaker 2: I won't go all black.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Yeah. My wife knows to not buy me anything that's black.
- 11:41Speaker 1: I like colorful. I just, I like, well, you see
- 11:43Speaker 1: me in the summertime. I like colorful, bright colored shirts
- 11:48Speaker 1: and shorts and- And pants, for that fact. I mean,
- 11:52Speaker 1: like when I go to Kentucky Derby, I'm wearing the
- 11:54Speaker 1: brightest stuff you can find out there that's just almost obnoxious.
- 11:58Speaker 1: That's what I like. Black and brown are just kind
- 12:02Speaker 1: of boring to me. They are. I agree with that.
- 12:04Speaker 1: There's just nothing to it. I don't get it. But anyway,
- 12:09Speaker 1: let's talk about Will Stein, who is in favor of
- 12:13Speaker 1: one thing, which I was kind of surprised about. He
- 12:17Speaker 1: said that he is in favor of the 2014 playoff system.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I heard that. Yes. I was disappointed. You were? Why?
- 12:27Speaker 2: I just didn't think that would be the answer. I mean,
- 12:30Speaker 2: he did walk it back a little bit, and he
- 12:31Speaker 2: was like, I'm in favor of 16 or 24, whatever
- 12:34Speaker 2: they make it.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Yeah. But- I don't know.
- 12:37Speaker 2: I just wish there was more coaches coming out and
- 12:39Speaker 2: saying how dumb it is. Now, his explanation of I
- 12:43Speaker 2: wish people would quit saying that it's going to hurt
- 12:46Speaker 2: the regular season, I thought that was really good. I
- 12:49Speaker 2: enjoyed listening to him talk about that, but I don't know.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Maybe I'm just so mad about it.
- 12:54Speaker 1: He made the comment, a lot of people out there
- 12:57Speaker 1: said that the season games wouldn't matter. It's like, come on, man.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Are you kidding me? Of course they're going to matter.
- 13:03Speaker 1: They'll just matter more. I couldn't agree more. So he
- 13:08Speaker 1: said that it enhances opportunities for college football's middle class.
- 13:14Speaker 1: And I think that's where he believes UK is right now.
- 13:18Speaker 1: It's like that helps us get in there.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Wouldn't that be upper middle class? I mean, if he's
- 13:24Speaker 2: judging on what it is right now, wouldn't you say
- 13:27Speaker 2: upper middle class?
- 13:28Speaker 1: I don't know. All right. So first, you're in the
- 13:32Speaker 1: top 12. Isn't that high class? so far but but
- 13:36Speaker 1: this is new for uk and i think that's what
- 13:39Speaker 1: he means by that uh because.
- 13:41Speaker 2: If you're a financial advisor get someone to manage your money.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I know that person her name is patricia bennett yeah
- 13:48Speaker 1: send yeah go send kentucky football to patricia bennett how
- 13:51Speaker 1: about that for a plug for my wife yeah yeah
- 13:55Speaker 1: she's a she's a financial advisor by the way with
- 13:58Speaker 1: raymond james if you want to give her a call
- 13:59Speaker 1: so yeah uh but no It enhances opportunities for college
- 14:03Speaker 1: football's middle class. Y'all tell me, here's what he said.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Y'all tell me you wouldn't want a playoff game at UK?
- 14:10Speaker 1: And he's absolutely right. Of course we would. We would
- 14:15Speaker 1: do anything to have a playoff game at Commonwealth Stadium.
- 14:19Speaker 1: And I'm telling you, if they had one at UK,
- 14:23Speaker 1: that would be definitely the toughest ticket that has ever
- 14:27Speaker 1: happened at Commonwealth Stadium. If you all host.
- 14:31Speaker 2: A playoff game at home before we do, I'm going
- 14:34Speaker 2: to be sorry.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Oh, that's a great question right there. I will be furious.
- 14:41Speaker 1: All right, well, let's talk about that. Is there any
- 14:45Speaker 1: chance that UK hosts a playoff game before IU? Absolutely,
- 14:51Speaker 1: there's a chance. Is there really? Absolutely. Tell me what
- 14:55Speaker 1: the rest of the schedule is for IU. Oh, it's cake.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I mean, we don't need to go through it. Well,
- 14:59Speaker 1: then why do you say that?
- 15:01Speaker 2: They're not losing a game. Well, I mean, because Indiana's
- 15:03Speaker 2: going to get a bye. Okay, so from the bye,
- 15:06Speaker 2: won't they host? Oh, that's right, they won't. Oh, that's right.
- 15:09Speaker 2: If the season goes the way I think it's going
- 15:11Speaker 2: to go for the rest of the year, we will
- 15:12Speaker 2: not have a home game.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Well, then if that's the case, you really don't want
- 15:15Speaker 1: to host a game. Do you?
- 15:18Speaker 2: I would almost rather, as crazy as this is going
- 15:22Speaker 2: to sound, I would almost rather give up the bye
- 15:25Speaker 2: to have a home game in Bloomington.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Just to enjoy a host game? Just to see how
- 15:29Speaker 1: the environment is. Oh, you know how it would be. Man,
- 15:34Speaker 1: because I think that's a fair question. Would I want
- 15:37Speaker 1: to host a game or would I want to buy? And, man,
- 15:41Speaker 1: that's a tough call right there, honestly.
- 15:42Speaker 2: You've never, as a Kentucky fan, you've never been through
- 15:45Speaker 2: any of it.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Exactly. So I would think ideally. And IU's only been
- 15:49Speaker 1: through it once. Don't act like you've been doing it
- 15:50Speaker 1: for years. Okay, whatever.
- 15:52Speaker 2: We just didn't get a buy the first year and
- 15:54Speaker 2: we had to play at Notre Dame. Right.
- 15:55Speaker 1: But, I mean, I think the first year that you
- 15:59Speaker 1: all go, you would want that. Because it does. It
- 16:01Speaker 1: makes it a little bit easier. Oh, absolutely. It makes
- 16:03Speaker 1: it easier. Because you're right. I want to see that environment.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I would predict, and I think it would be a
- 16:11Speaker 1: pretty easy prediction, tailgating would be going nuts. People would
- 16:15Speaker 1: be showing up the night before the game. You'd probably
- 16:18Speaker 1: hear blue-white chants in Louisville. Oh, well, that's a great point.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Like from Lexington. Oh, you're probably right. But I'm telling you. Wow,
- 16:28Speaker 1: that would be a tough call right there, Justin. I'm
- 16:30Speaker 1: not going to lie to you. It's like, okay, you're right.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I probably would want to have the bar, but I
- 16:38Speaker 1: do want to experience it at Commonwealth Stadium. Yeah, the
- 16:43Speaker 1: teams that are hosting, they still got another road to go.
- 16:48Speaker 1: I mean, it's just a little bit longer of a road.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I can't remember the last time the UK played in
- 16:55Speaker 1: the Sugar Bowl if they ever did. They've never obviously
- 16:58Speaker 1: never played in any of those other bowls. So it'd
- 17:00Speaker 1: be fun to just see him play in one of
- 17:02Speaker 1: those bowls. And I'd be going. I would be taking
- 17:05Speaker 1: my entire family. And I would force him. I said,
- 17:08Speaker 1: I don't care if you're a Vanderbilt fan. We're going
- 17:10Speaker 1: to go see my team play in a bowl game.
- 17:12Speaker 1: We're going to have fun. They'd go. Yeah, I think
- 17:14Speaker 1: they would too. My youngest son, he would be dying
- 17:17Speaker 1: to go. He's still a big UK fan. My oldest, no.
- 17:20Speaker 1: He's a season ticket holder at Vanderbilt. And he loves it. Yeah.
- 17:24Speaker 1: But he's got those swanky season tickets where you get
- 17:27Speaker 1: the free buffet and stuff. Come on. Yeah, he does.
- 17:29Speaker 1: He's taking care of himself without a doubt. All right,
- 17:32Speaker 1: we've got to take a break. 502-384-1450. You want to
- 17:35Speaker 1: call in 502-414-1450. If you want to complain about my gibberish,
- 17:40Speaker 1: I would be more than grateful for that because I
- 17:42Speaker 1: do enjoy it. Or you can tweet me at Just
- 17:44Speaker 1: the Cat Radio. We've got a long way to go
- 17:46Speaker 1: and a short time to get there. So stay right there.
- 17:49Speaker 1: More Just the Cats coming right up. Don't do me
- 17:54Speaker 1: like that. Don't do me like that. What if I
- 17:58Speaker 1: need you, baby? Don't do me like that. Who's gonna
- 18:27Speaker 1: ride that chrome three-wheel?
- 18:30Speaker 3: Who's gonna make that first mistake?
- 18:38Speaker 1: By the way, you had a good call this morning,
- 18:40Speaker 1: just to let you know. Playing some Barenaked Ladies. Oh, yeah.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Love that song. At 7 o'clock in the morning. I mean,
- 18:47Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, that was nice. I wish I had
- 18:49Speaker 1: thought about Barenaked Ladies. Love If I Had a Million Dollars.
- 18:53Speaker 1: You and me both. They've got a few songs out
- 18:55Speaker 1: there that I enjoy. I enjoy that one you just
- 18:57Speaker 1: played by Bob Seger. So, anyway, I don't know where
- 19:00Speaker 1: you're going with the theme today, by the way. There's
- 19:02Speaker 1: no theme. Oh, there isn't? I'm just bouncing off the
- 19:04Speaker 1: music that you sent. Oh, okay, cool. All right, then. 502-414-1450.
- 19:07Speaker 1: You want to text in on the Whiskey Thief text line.
- 19:12Speaker 1: One person texted in. To be fair, the uniform combinations
- 19:17Speaker 1: are to excite the players and the recruits, not us
- 19:22Speaker 1: as much. That's fair. Yeah, I get it. No, no, no.
- 19:25Speaker 1: And you're right. And listen, it's just not a thing
- 19:29Speaker 1: I would have picked out. Even as a kid, I
- 19:31Speaker 1: would have probably picked that out. But if that excites
- 19:34Speaker 1: the players and that makes them happy, that is all
- 19:38Speaker 1: that matters to me. I'm just going to voice my opinion.
- 19:41Speaker 1: I don't really care for it. But listen, if they're
- 19:43Speaker 1: all excited about wearing those uniforms, by golly, those kids
- 19:47Speaker 1: should be wearing those uniforms. Whatever gets them going. gets
- 19:50Speaker 1: them energetic, ready to go out there and play a game.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Anything you want to add? No, couldn't agree more. Okay,
- 19:57Speaker 1: there you go. Well, I mean, you didn't mention recruits.
- 20:00Speaker 1: I mean, if the recruits like them too. Oh, that too. Yeah, yeah,
- 20:03Speaker 1: I know. It's all about, listen, the players first and
- 20:06Speaker 1: the recruits second. And if they want fire, guess what?
- 20:09Speaker 1: They get fire. I sound like a two-year-old when I
- 20:12Speaker 1: say that. Fire. Fire. But anyway, you can have it
- 20:17Speaker 1: all you want. It's okay. I'm good with it. One
- 20:20Speaker 1: person texted in, I don't get the gray uniforms. Are
- 20:23Speaker 1: we being led by Will Stein or Robert E. Lee?
- 20:27Speaker 1: Not a fan of the gray. Wow, man. That's quite
- 20:31Speaker 1: the reference right there. Yeah. What if Ole Miss wore
- 20:37Speaker 1: this and they brought out the, you know, they used
- 20:40Speaker 1: to wave Confederate flags at their games. Oh, that was
- 20:44Speaker 1: almost a slip. I know it, but it didn't happen. So, yeah,
- 20:50Speaker 1: that's quite, you're exactly right. I mean, they do like, okay.
- 20:55Speaker 1: I think it would look better on Ole Miss. But
- 20:58Speaker 1: their colors came with the blue and the red. So, yeah,
- 21:02Speaker 1: that gets similar to the Giants, the New York Giants.
- 21:05Speaker 1: And I really like those. Now, we can't put in
- 21:09Speaker 1: red because we don't have any. Well, we could. I mean,
- 21:12Speaker 1: they're using gray. Why not put some red in there?
- 21:15Speaker 1: They could do it. I don't know. Red's not allowed
- 21:20Speaker 1: in that building. Oh, that's right. I forgot that. Thank
- 21:25Speaker 1: you for that reminder right there. Yeah. I would love
- 21:30Speaker 1: to know if anybody's made the mistake to wear red
- 21:32Speaker 1: and if Will Stein took care of that. No chance.
- 21:37Speaker 1: You don't think so? No. You don't think anybody has
- 21:40Speaker 1: worn red?
- 21:40Speaker 2: I think the guys that have been at Kentucky for
- 21:42Speaker 2: a long time and understand what Louisville means to them,
- 21:47Speaker 2: like your Ty Bryants or guys that have been around
- 21:49Speaker 2: for a long time, they won't allow it. I think
- 21:52Speaker 2: they're probably, that's probably like first week stuff where they're
- 21:56Speaker 2: indoctrinating all these new players and letting them know about
- 21:59Speaker 2: Louisville and the rivalry and how they can't wear red
- 22:02Speaker 2: because of Louisville. Oh yeah, I guarantee you that's all done.
- 22:05Speaker 1: I'm surprised he hasn't said that about Tennessee too. Let's just,
- 22:10Speaker 1: come on, why aren't we saying it about Orange? With
- 22:12Speaker 1: their gaudy Orange. Yeah, well, I like Tennessee's Orange more
- 22:17Speaker 1: than I like Texas Orange. I don't like burnt Orange. Now,
- 22:21Speaker 1: if there is a color combination I really love, I
- 22:25Speaker 1: do love Auburn's orange with their navy blue. I think
- 22:29Speaker 1: that is really sharp looking. I've always liked that. I'd
- 22:33Speaker 1: much prefer the bright blue with the orange of Florida.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Bright blue. Oh, I like that one, too. So you
- 22:41Speaker 2: like royal blue with the orange. Yeah, I think that
- 22:43Speaker 2: looks better than Auburn.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Yeah, see, I've always liked the Chicago Bears. I think
- 22:47Speaker 1: their orange with their navy blue is really good. Because
- 22:51Speaker 1: it's the same as Auburn. Exactly. And the other part
- 22:54Speaker 1: I like, I love Seattle. The Seahawks with their lime green. Oh, yeah.
- 23:00Speaker 1: And navy blue. I think that is really good looking. Yeah,
- 23:04Speaker 1: I like the lime green. At one time, I thought
- 23:07Speaker 1: about why not make the Scenic Hill Silk for horse
- 23:10Speaker 1: racing a navy blue with the lime green. And I
- 23:13Speaker 1: thought that will be, you'll definitely notice that. Instead, I
- 23:16Speaker 1: want the glow green and royal blue, which I think
- 23:20Speaker 1: it really spots. But Michael is a colorful peacock. Am
- 23:25Speaker 1: I really? You just don't want to wear black. I
- 23:28Speaker 1: don't want to wear black. I want to wear bright colors.
- 23:31Speaker 1: All right. I've got on. You are the equivalent of
- 23:33Speaker 1: a human peacock. Am I really? Yeah. I take that
- 23:36Speaker 1: as a compliment, by the way. So I like bright colors.
- 23:40Speaker 1: They make me happy. It's not going to change. Coaches
- 23:43Speaker 1: are going to want a larger field for the playoffs
- 23:46Speaker 1: because it means more teams get a chance. as more
- 23:50Speaker 1: bonuses for coaches. Personally, all this class talk has me
- 23:55Speaker 1: going back to a better class of losers. Oh my gosh. See,
- 24:00Speaker 1: that probably isn't, you know, we talked about Will Stein's
- 24:03Speaker 1: bonuses kicking in. This weekend, I bet more times than not,
- 24:09Speaker 1: coaches are going to want more teams in the playoffs
- 24:11Speaker 1: because of that right there. But I bet colleges get
- 24:16Speaker 1: a little more ahead of that and say, well, wait
- 24:19Speaker 1: a minute now. Let's not make it the first game
- 24:22Speaker 1: in the playoffs. Let's make it the second game when
- 24:24Speaker 1: the bonuses start kicking in. Do you think they'll start
- 24:27Speaker 1: adjusting coach contracts after this? I'm sure certain schools would. Really?
- 24:32Speaker 1: Like the schools that are in every single year. Yeah.
- 24:36Speaker 1: I'm kind of surprised. So with the success of Cignetti
- 24:41Speaker 1: and IU football, they haven't thought about expanding the stadium.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I don't think there's a way to. I just.
- 24:49Speaker 2: I truly don't. Because they've already renovated it two or
- 24:53Speaker 2: three different times.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Right. Since I even graduated. Right.
- 24:56Speaker 2: And they've got the whole bowl now. Like both end
- 24:59Speaker 2: zones are closed. Whereas when I was a kid. You
- 25:02Speaker 2: just had stands on the sides of the field.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Yes.
- 25:05Speaker 2: So the way it's all closed in now, I don't
- 25:07Speaker 2: know how much more room there is for expansion.
- 25:09Speaker 1: All right. What does IU seek? I think like 58.
- 25:15Speaker 1: And see, that's small. And UK went smaller at Rupp
- 25:20Speaker 1: and at Commonwealth Stadium. And I've always criticized Mitch Barnhart
- 25:25Speaker 1: for doing that. Now I wonder if UK is going
- 25:28Speaker 1: to look at this and say, ooh, if we want
- 25:31Speaker 1: to continue to succeed at UK, we got to get bigger.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Because you look at Texas and how big it is.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Texas A & M, I think, has the largest stadium. Well,
- 25:40Speaker 1: they do in college. As far as the state of Texas,
- 25:44Speaker 1: it's not bigger than AT & T Stadium, but it
- 25:46Speaker 1: is the largest college football stadium, and it's clearly the
- 25:50Speaker 1: largest within the SEC. You've got Georgia, who's huge, Florida, Tennessee,
- 25:56Speaker 1: who's really big. Does UK need to keep up with
- 25:59Speaker 1: the Joneses and say, you know what, maybe we need
- 26:02Speaker 1: to get back to around 70,000?
- 26:06Speaker 2: So, apparently, from what I'm reading here, Kurt Cignetti actually
- 26:10Speaker 2: talked about expansion this summer, and there is a plan
- 26:14Speaker 2: to get it from $ 56, 000 to.
- 26:16Speaker 1: $ 80, 000. There you go.
- 26:18Speaker 2: I personally have no idea how they're going to make
- 26:21Speaker 2: that happen.
- 26:23Speaker 1: They're going up. That's how they do it. They'll just
- 26:25Speaker 1: go up. I mean, it's already so high. Is it really? Oh,
- 26:27Speaker 1: it's so high. It's been a long time since I've
- 26:29Speaker 1: been to IU. If you're at the very top of
- 26:31Speaker 1: that stadium, you are up there. Yeah. I don't know
- 26:36Speaker 1: how you'd do it at UK other than you'd build
- 26:38Speaker 1: up the end zone above those suites. That's the only
- 26:41Speaker 1: thing I can think of. Or do it like Tennessee does.
- 26:44Speaker 1: They just take a seat that's already existing and make
- 26:47Speaker 1: it smaller. I can't even get one cheek in a
- 26:51Speaker 1: Tennessee seat at Nalen Stadium. Seriously, I'm sitting on my side.
- 26:55Speaker 1: It is the most uncomfortable football stadium in all the SEC.
- 27:00Speaker 1: It's terrible. I've never liked Nalen Stadium. But now the
- 27:04Speaker 1: environment is fantastic. It really is. And that's the one
- 27:08Speaker 1: thing about SEC football, the environment at not just nailing stadium,
- 27:13Speaker 1: but a multiple stadiums is so much fun. LSU and
- 27:17Speaker 1: Ole Miss are probably my favorites. They are just fun. Uh, so, um,
- 27:23Speaker 1: Always a good morning when you hear or see bare
- 27:26Speaker 1: naked ladies. Shout out to my wife. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Good text. Oh, well done, Jamie. You're exactly right. I mean,
- 27:40Speaker 1: I know. I shouldn't say. She's your wife. Those days
- 27:44Speaker 1: are rare. Well, yeah. And when I do, I get
- 27:47Speaker 1: yelled at. I just want some privacy. It's like, never mind.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I just want to see you naked. Well, exactly. I mean,
- 27:55Speaker 1: is that how you say it, by the way? Is
- 27:56Speaker 1: it naked? My mom and dad always said naked. No,
- 28:00Speaker 1: I don't say it like that. It's not spelled N-E-C-K-E-D.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Have you ever seen that clip from Family Feud? The
- 28:07Speaker 2: naked grandma?
- 28:09Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 28:10Speaker 2: So Harvey's asking, I think the question is, what's one
- 28:13Speaker 2: thing you don't want to see when you walk in
- 28:15Speaker 2: your front door and the guy buzzes in and he's like,
- 28:18Speaker 2: a naked grandma.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. So you're,
- 28:24Speaker 1: what's that show called? Family Feud. Family Feud. All right.
- 28:27Speaker 1: So you were all about him. Do you remember the
- 28:30Speaker 1: original host, Richard Dreyfuss? Oh, yeah, of course. Or not Dreyfuss. Richard. Richard. Dawson. Yeah, Dawson.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Richard Dawson. Yeah. He used to be on a famous
- 28:40Speaker 1: show back in the, what, 70s, I think, 60s or 70s,
- 28:44Speaker 1: called Hogan's Heroes. It was a World War II based. comedy,
- 28:49Speaker 1: if you can imagine. He always kind of creeped me out. Oh,
- 28:51Speaker 1: he did?
- 28:52Speaker 2: I've mentioned that my grandma spent a lot of my
- 28:54Speaker 2: childhood watching the Game Show Network.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Yes. Yeah, when he would, like, Kiss women on the mouth? Yes.
- 28:59Speaker 1: I always thought that was so weird. Yes. All right.
- 29:01Speaker 1: So you think that's creepy that he wants to kiss everybody, right? Yes.
- 29:05Speaker 1: All right. So we have a friend that, and I'm
- 29:08Speaker 1: not going to say his name because he listens to
- 29:10Speaker 1: the show, but I'm worried he's going to know who
- 29:12Speaker 1: I'm talking about. And I love this guy. I truly
- 29:15Speaker 1: love this guy. Huge UK fan. And he always goes
- 29:19Speaker 1: up to women and kisses them on the mouth. Now,
- 29:24Speaker 1: if you had a girlfriend or a wife and he
- 29:28Speaker 1: goes to kiss her on the mouth, how are you
- 29:30Speaker 1: reacting to that? It wouldn't be good. Wouldn't be a
- 29:34Speaker 1: good reaction. Yeah. Yeah. I'm right there with you. I
- 29:38Speaker 1: think it's inappropriate. for a man that is married to
- 29:42Speaker 1: go kiss another woman that is married or not married
- 29:45Speaker 1: on the mouth. So does he kiss Patricia on the mouth? No,
- 29:48Speaker 1: she doesn't let him kiss her at all. She'll do it. Oh,
- 29:50Speaker 1: she won't even give him a hug. Okay. Yeah. And
- 29:54Speaker 1: he'll try and kiss her on the cheek, but no,
- 29:56Speaker 1: he'll go and kiss women on the mouth. I just, I,
- 30:00Speaker 1: I love the guy, but man, it's just like, okay,
- 30:02Speaker 1: go for it, man. If that's, that's, that's what you
- 30:05Speaker 1: want to do. Do it. Does he still do it
- 30:07Speaker 1: after COVID? Oh, yeah. Oh, very much so. And he
- 30:11Speaker 1: means it in a sincere way, not in any kind
- 30:15Speaker 1: of other way. Like, I'm a hugger. I had an
- 30:18Speaker 1: appointment yesterday with a young lady that's trying to help
- 30:22Speaker 1: me with my ADHD. And, uh, she was testing me
- 30:28Speaker 1: and all kinds of stuff. And, and I said, now
- 30:31Speaker 1: I'm a hugger when I was leaving. I said, you
- 30:33Speaker 1: better just get over it. She said, no, no, no.
- 30:34Speaker 1: I liked that. So I hugged her and she gave
- 30:36Speaker 1: me a big, strong hug. I saw a lady last
- 30:40Speaker 1: night that I've known for many years. I went to
- 30:42Speaker 1: eat dinner by myself because Patricia had a business meeting.
- 30:45Speaker 1: So I went to this place down right outside Prospect
- 30:48Speaker 1: called Cunningham's. Have you ever been to Cunningham's on the creek?
- 30:51Speaker 3: Yep.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Love that place. They have the greatest food in the world.
- 30:55Speaker 1: So I went there to eat dinner, and there was
- 30:57Speaker 1: a girl I've known since high school. And I go
- 31:00Speaker 1: up to her, and I said, Stephanie, how you doing?
- 31:02Speaker 1: She gives me the tightest hug you've ever seen in
- 31:04Speaker 1: your life. And I loved it. There was nothing to it.
- 31:07Speaker 1: It was just an enduring friendship-type hug. But I didn't
- 31:12Speaker 1: kiss her. Still, with Richard Dawson, I don't think there
- 31:15Speaker 1: was anything to it. You don't think so? I do
- 31:18Speaker 1: think it's a little creepy. I think there are men
- 31:20Speaker 1: out there that it's a little creepy.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Now, he was only married to his first wife for
- 31:23Speaker 2: seven years, so I'm curious if that maybe had something
- 31:26Speaker 2: to do with it.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I don't know. She just was tired of seeing him
- 31:29Speaker 1: kiss other women all day? My dad always made the comment, listen,
- 31:33Speaker 1: I hug everybody, the pretty girls and the ugly girls,
- 31:36Speaker 1: because when you go to hug a pretty girl, nobody
- 31:38Speaker 1: thinks anything of it, because I get to hug them
- 31:41Speaker 1: a little longer. He was kind of right about that. So, yeah,
- 31:46Speaker 1: I hug everybody. Zach texted in, I'm surprised there hasn't
- 31:50Speaker 1: been more talk for this year being the last year
- 31:53Speaker 1: for conference championship games. That's true. That's extremely true. And, Zach,
- 31:59Speaker 1: you're exactly correct. I mean, can you imagine? Is this
- 32:02Speaker 1: the reason for the demise of conference championship games? Because
- 32:06Speaker 1: UK is finally going to make one? I hope. I mean,
- 32:09Speaker 1: can you imagine? UK finally makes it on the last
- 32:13Speaker 1: year of ever having a conference championship game. This may
- 32:16Speaker 1: be a hot take, but I don't think UK makes it.
- 32:19Speaker 1: I know. I don't either, but it's fun to talk about.
- 32:23Speaker 1: I don't think they're going to make the college football playoffs,
- 32:25Speaker 1: but everybody throughout the country is talking about them. I
- 32:28Speaker 1: could see them making the playoffs. You don't see them
- 32:31Speaker 1: making the championship game, but you see them making the playoffs.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Yeah, which, I mean, honestly, if you don't play in
- 32:39Speaker 2: the SEC championship, it might be a blessing. It is
- 32:42Speaker 2: a blessing as far as I'm concerned. It's just like Indiana,
- 32:45Speaker 2: their first year. We didn't get to play in the championship.
- 32:47Speaker 2: But we still found our way into the playoffs.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Well, yeah, and I can tell you, for those people
- 32:53Speaker 1: that want to weigh in, would you rather make the
- 32:56Speaker 1: playoffs or would you rather make the SEC championship game? Now,
- 32:59Speaker 1: if UK makes it, so let's just say. If you
- 33:01Speaker 1: make the SEC championship, you're making the playoffs. You think so? Yeah, absolutely.
- 33:05Speaker 1: What if something crazy happens, UK loses one more game,
- 33:09Speaker 1: they play in the, and they still make the SEC
- 33:13Speaker 1: championship game? Is there a way for them to make
- 33:17Speaker 1: the playoffs if they lose the SEC championship game? So
- 33:21Speaker 1: that would be three losses. I don't think with another
- 33:25Speaker 1: loss they would make the championship. Even though the championship
- 33:27Speaker 1: game should not be discounted. Making it is one thing.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Losing it is another is what you're telling me.
- 33:35Speaker 2: No, I mean, I think if you lose beforehand and
- 33:38Speaker 2: you've got two losses going into that game. That would
- 33:41Speaker 2: be your third loss if you filter in that one.
- 33:44Speaker 2: I don't know that you do get in, but I
- 33:45Speaker 2: also had the same take last year where If you're
- 33:48Speaker 2: playing for a conference championship and you're in the Big
- 33:51Speaker 2: Ten or the SEC.
- 33:52Speaker 1: You should make it. You should make it. It should
- 33:54Speaker 1: be a shoe-in. That game should not matter for anything.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Now, if you go into that game and you get
- 33:59Speaker 2: smacked by 40, then maybe we got some.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Room to pause. I don't know. I disagree with you.
- 34:06Speaker 1: I think if you make it, it doesn't matter. It
- 34:09Speaker 1: should be relied to make the college football playoffs what
- 34:13Speaker 1: you did in the regular season. Post-season means nothing other
- 34:17Speaker 1: than if you win, you should be seated differently. If
- 34:20Speaker 1: you lose, you're going to be seated lower.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Well, if you think it means nothing, then that's exactly
- 34:24Speaker 2: why they're going to take away conference championships.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Well, they can't continue to play these games and continue
- 34:29Speaker 1: to beat up on each other because you know what?
- 34:32Speaker 1: Why do I want to have all my starters play
- 34:34Speaker 1: in that game? Because what means more is not the
- 34:38Speaker 1: championship game within the conference. It's the college football playoffs.
- 34:42Speaker 1: So I don't want to risk my players playing that
- 34:45Speaker 1: game and threat that I might lose one of them,
- 34:47Speaker 1: and then they can't play in the college football playoffs.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Wouldn't you rather, though, have an SEC championship than go
- 34:53Speaker 2: one and done in the playoffs?
- 34:55Speaker 1: You mean win it? No, one and done. Like you
- 34:58Speaker 1: lose your first game. No, no, no. I know what
- 34:59Speaker 1: you're saying. Oh, the championship? Yeah. Win the championship. Wouldn't
- 35:02Speaker 1: you rather have that? Well, sure, but, I mean, you
- 35:07Speaker 1: can't predict the future. No, I just did. So I can.
- 35:11Speaker 1: I can. Okay, all right. Okay, you're really blowing my
- 35:18Speaker 1: mind right now. We got to take a break, okay?
- 35:20Speaker 1: You've gone Trevor on me. So let's go ahead and
- 35:23Speaker 1: take a– I mean, we're going to have all kinds
- 35:25Speaker 1: of nicknames on this show, I think. You can't go
- 35:27Speaker 1: Trevor on me, and you can't go John Wan Long, okay?
- 35:29Speaker 1: And I've gone John Wan Long right now. But we
- 35:32Speaker 1: got to take a break. 502-414-1450. Keep sending me those texts.
- 35:36Speaker 1: We'll get to them as soon as we get back.
- 35:37Speaker 1: This is just a catch.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Joe's run off to Fire Lake. Joe's run off to
- 35:54Speaker 3: Fire Lake.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Who wants to brave those bronze beauties? They just don't
- 36:35Speaker 1: make songs like this anymore. I'm a big Don Henley fan.
- 36:39Speaker 1: And this song is so appropriate to play right now.
- 36:43Speaker 1: All she wants to do is dance. Why is it
- 36:45Speaker 1: appropriate for right now? Because that's all I can think
- 36:47Speaker 1: of is my wife in the bathroom, not any clothes on,
- 36:49Speaker 1: and dancing. I wish that would happen. That's my dream
- 36:52Speaker 1: come true. I mean, you're doing radio here, Michael. Okay, sorry. Yeah, sorry.
- 36:56Speaker 1: I should not have said that.
- 36:57Speaker 2: I was thinking you were going to go like, I
- 36:59Speaker 2: don't know, we're talking about Kentucky in the playoffs. All
- 37:01Speaker 2: I want to go do is dance.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 37:04Speaker 3: Okay.
- 37:04Speaker 1: That's where I thought you were going. No, my mind's
- 37:06Speaker 1: in the dirt. I mean, it's gone to the toilet.
- 37:10Speaker 1: And I can tell you right now, because you played
- 37:11Speaker 1: bare naked ladies. It all started with bare naked ladies.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Good job, Jamie. Exactly. And that's where I am right now.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Got another great question right here. Would you rather make
- 37:24Speaker 1: the playoffs or a shot to be the last SEC
- 37:27Speaker 1: champion ever? God, that's a really, really good question. Man.
- 37:38Speaker 2: I really don't know. But if you get one, don't
- 37:42Speaker 2: you get the other? Well, I guess not necessarily with
- 37:44Speaker 2: the championship. But if you get the SEC championship, you're
- 37:48Speaker 2: in the playoff.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right.
- 37:50Speaker 2: I would probably rather take the SEC championship knowing what
- 37:53Speaker 2: comes after.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:55Speaker 2: But that kind of was the question I was asking
- 37:57Speaker 2: is would you rather win that and Go one and
- 38:00Speaker 2: done in the playoffs? Or would you rather not win
- 38:03Speaker 2: that and potentially have a longer life?
- 38:06Speaker 1: You could go two weeks in and lose the second
- 38:09Speaker 1: game or something like that. And then, you know, you
- 38:12Speaker 1: don't have the championship, the SEC. At least you'd have
- 38:15Speaker 1: that to celebrate. I might say I want the SEC championship,
- 38:20Speaker 1: the last one ever. is where I would probably go
- 38:23Speaker 1: and just say, hey, man, we got this. We got
- 38:25Speaker 1: this to celebrate. We've got a trophy to put in.
- 38:28Speaker 1: We've got a flag to raise at Commonwealth Stadium. We've
- 38:31Speaker 1: got something to show off to all the new recruits.
- 38:35Speaker 1: I mean, and that's something that nobody can take away
- 38:37Speaker 1: from you. As an IU fan, because of the last
- 38:40Speaker 1: couple of years, well, three years, Kirk Cignetti has been
- 38:45Speaker 1: the talk of college football. Is that fair to say? Absolutely.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Are you a little nervous that he's being replaced? I
- 38:52Speaker 1: know it's a little premature, but he possibly could be
- 38:56Speaker 1: replaced by Will Stein. No.
- 38:58Speaker 3: Why?
- 38:59Speaker 2: Because Kurt Cignetti is who he is. He's always going
- 39:01Speaker 2: to get spotlight. I mean, he's entertaining, even if it's
- 39:06Speaker 2: kind of in a boring way. No, I don't think. No,
- 39:08Speaker 2: I don't think that at all. But there's nothing boring
- 39:11Speaker 2: about Will Stein. Let me just say, I think there's
- 39:14Speaker 2: more room on top of the mountain.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Is there really? Okay. I don't think there's only room
- 39:18Speaker 1: for one guy. Because he has had, he, Will Stein
- 39:22Speaker 1: has had so many quotes this year. And he's only
- 39:25Speaker 1: been a head coach for, what, six months? Yeah. And
- 39:29Speaker 1: all the... quotes that he continues to say out there
- 39:32Speaker 1: is nothing short of amazing. And I love every one
- 39:35Speaker 1: of them. I mean, the bull don't care just came
- 39:38Speaker 1: out yesterday. I mean, that's his new mantra.
- 39:42Speaker 2: The bull don't care? The bull don't care. Shouldn't it
- 39:45Speaker 2: be the cat don't care?
- 39:46Speaker 1: Well, yes, but I mean, the bull, you're looking at
- 39:50Speaker 1: the eye of the horns. I mean, I would say
- 39:52Speaker 1: the bull, not the cat. But that's not Kentucky. But
- 39:55Speaker 1: the cat, I know, I get it. I know, you're just... Oh,
- 39:58Speaker 1: is this going towards Texas? Is that what you're saying?
- 40:01Speaker 1: There's a little hidden meaning in there? A little innuendo? No,
- 40:06Speaker 1: he's not doing that. That's purely a joke. There's no
- 40:09Speaker 1: way he would come here, promote his mom's sissy cakes,
- 40:12Speaker 1: which I'll talk about for the rest of my life
- 40:14Speaker 1: because they're phenomenal, and have his family here. He's back
- 40:19Speaker 1: at his dream school of University of Kentucky. Sorry about that,
- 40:22Speaker 1: UofL fans. But Will Stein is at his dream school.
- 40:27Speaker 1: He would never go to UofL. He would never. I
- 40:30Speaker 1: just don't see him going to another school. I don't
- 40:32Speaker 1: think he'd ever go back to Oregon. And I think
- 40:35Speaker 1: the Oregon fans are like, man, the season they're having,
- 40:38Speaker 1: which is just okay. It's not a bad season. But
- 40:41Speaker 1: they truly see where Will Stein was a factor with
- 40:44Speaker 1: their team, don't they? Mm-hmm. I mean, and he can honestly.
- 40:48Speaker 2: So I'm looking up the longest 10 years ever in
- 40:51Speaker 2: college football because I'm just curious with him being what, 36?
- 40:55Speaker 1: Yes. I think he's younger than me, which is crazy
- 40:58Speaker 1: to say. Yeah, it is.
- 40:59Speaker 2: But I mean, you had. Eddie Robinson, I don't remember him,
- 41:03Speaker 2: but he coached at Grambling State.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Oh, Eddie Robinson? Oh, absolutely. He was at Grambling State
- 41:07Speaker 1: for years. 55 years. He was the most successful Grambling
- 41:13Speaker 1: coach ever. Joe Paterno was at Penn State, 46. Wow.
- 41:16Speaker 2: He had Bobby Bowden, 34, at Florida State. So, I mean,
- 41:21Speaker 2: when I talk about Will Stein and think about what
- 41:24Speaker 2: he can be in his coaching career, I think he's
- 41:27Speaker 2: going to be the next one of those guys. I
- 41:29Speaker 2: really don't see a way where he– Leaves Kentucky.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Well, let's talk about the current era. How long was
- 41:35Speaker 1: Nick Saban at Alabama? Wasn't it only like eight, nine years?
- 41:42Speaker 1: I think it was as long as you think. It
- 41:44Speaker 1: was 2007 through 2023. Oh, that's a little longer than
- 41:49Speaker 1: you thought. 17 seasons is how long he was there.
- 41:53Speaker 1: So it can happen as long as you continue to win. Mm-hmm. And,
- 41:58Speaker 1: of course, he has, what, six national titles? Yep. And
- 42:02Speaker 1: so you look at that, okay, that's a pretty good
- 42:04Speaker 1: season right there. Do you think LSU is still bitter
- 42:08Speaker 1: at him? Because that could have been LSU.
- 42:13Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sure there are people that are, yeah.
- 42:17Speaker 2: They have to be upset with Nick Saban. But the
- 42:19Speaker 2: university as a whole, probably not. No, I'm talking about
- 42:22Speaker 2: the fan base. fan base has to be still upset
- 42:26Speaker 2: with him. I would think so, but all right. I
- 42:29Speaker 2: I'm going with the sec championship. That's what I would
- 42:32Speaker 2: go with. If I had my choice to make the
- 42:35Speaker 2: college football playoffs and win a game, maybe one game
- 42:39Speaker 2: or lose the first game, I would probably pick the
- 42:42Speaker 2: sec championship. What would you think the fan base would want?
- 42:48Speaker 2: I would say, well, I mean, it's so hard to
- 42:51Speaker 2: say because it, If you win the SEC championship, you're
- 42:54Speaker 2: in the playoff.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Yeah, but what if you lost the first game? You're
- 42:58Speaker 1: guaranteed a couple of wins in the playoffs or you
- 43:01Speaker 1: win a championship SEC and you lose the first playoff game.
- 43:04Speaker 1: I'd go playoffs. Oh, you would? Yeah. You don't care
- 43:07Speaker 1: about the final?
- 43:08Speaker 2: Well, just because, I mean, if you're in the playoffs
- 43:11Speaker 2: and you're telling me that you're winning a couple games,
- 43:13Speaker 2: then you're going to have a chance to hoist a trophy.
- 43:17Speaker 1: But you're not going far. You only win in two games.
- 43:19Speaker 1: That puts you in the final four. Yeah. Okay, so
- 43:23Speaker 1: you would rather make the Final Four than win your
- 43:26Speaker 1: final conference championship? Yes. Okay. If everything else after that is...
- 43:31Speaker 1: At least we're hoisting a trophy, and that trophy would
- 43:34Speaker 1: be the SEC championship. Yeah, but you're also going to
- 43:37Speaker 1: lift a, what, Peach Bowl trophy? Yeah. Rose Bowl, maybe?
- 43:41Speaker 1: Whatever bowls you run across on the line? Well, all right,
- 43:43Speaker 1: then differentiate it that way. If you're telling me... Kentucky
- 43:49Speaker 1: is going to not win the SEC championship, but hoist
- 43:55Speaker 1: a peach bowl. Who cares? But if it's a Rose
- 43:58Speaker 1: Bowl or a sugar bowl, I'm taking the Rose or
- 44:01Speaker 1: sugar bowl more than the SEC championship. Because that's putting
- 44:05Speaker 1: you into the college football championship. Yeah. But I'd be
- 44:08Speaker 1: foolish to not take. Yeah. Well, it'd be fun to
- 44:10Speaker 1: hoist one of those things. To see UK and Will
- 44:14Speaker 1: Stein hoist one of those things one day would be
- 44:16Speaker 1: the greatest dream of my life. I'm just telling you
- 44:19Speaker 1: right now. Might see it sooner than you realize. How
- 44:21Speaker 1: much time we got? None. Okay, none. All right, we
- 44:24Speaker 1: got to take a break. I'll get back to your
- 44:27Speaker 1: text message as soon as we get back. Hour 2
- 44:29Speaker 1: of Just the Cats is coming up right now. Welcome
- 44:54Speaker 1: to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett. Hour two on
- 45:02Speaker 1: this Wednesday in Louisville, Kentucky with an absolutely beautiful day outside.
- 45:07Speaker 1: That's the one thing that's been really nice, Justin. The
- 45:10Speaker 1: weather has just been absolutely perfection.
- 45:14Speaker 2: I actually got home yesterday and I didn't have any
- 45:17Speaker 2: plans when I got home. I was just going to
- 45:19Speaker 2: sit there and watched the Celtics game. I was, I
- 45:22Speaker 2: was curious how that was going to play out. And
- 45:24Speaker 2: then that game got to halftime and I was like,
- 45:26Speaker 2: you know what? It is way too nice. I've got
- 45:28Speaker 2: to go outside and do something. So I actually mowed
- 45:31Speaker 2: my front lawn. Oh, did you really? I was like, it's,
- 45:33Speaker 2: it's just too gorgeous to not be out.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Yeah. I sat on my deck and it just, I just,
- 45:39Speaker 1: this time of year, uh, it's, it's fun sitting out
- 45:41Speaker 1: there and get a little work done, uh, and, and
- 45:43Speaker 1: just relax and just enjoy the moment. And that's what, uh,
- 45:47Speaker 1: that's what I did. I, I, I loved every second
- 45:49Speaker 1: of it. Of course I did, uh, Watch, there's a
- 45:52Speaker 1: horse sale going right now. It starts at 10 o'clock
- 45:55Speaker 1: again today. It's the Fasig-Tipton's yearly sale. Wow, that's pretty good.
- 46:00Speaker 1: How did you know that? Because I've learned a lot
- 46:02Speaker 1: from you. Oh, I'm thoroughly impressed. Yeah, I got a
- 46:05Speaker 1: call from Mark Glatt. On Monday, Michael, what do you
- 46:08Speaker 1: want to talk about? Let's find something for California. And
- 46:12Speaker 1: I'm like, I had to pinch myself. If you don't
- 46:15Speaker 1: know who Mark Glad is, he's a trainer out in California.
- 46:18Speaker 1: He had So Happy in the Derby this year. And
- 46:23Speaker 1: I didn't initiate the call or anything. He called me
- 46:25Speaker 1: and says, you know, would you like to buy something?
- 46:27Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, my gosh. Anyway, all right, that's just
- 46:31Speaker 1: me kind of freaking out. I did. I did. I
- 46:33Speaker 1: kind of went kind of fanboy on that kind of stuff. Um,
- 46:37Speaker 1: I do want to know this though. There is a
- 46:40Speaker 1: person out there. I'm not familiar with who he is.
- 46:43Speaker 1: He's from South Carolina and his Twitter account is, uh,
- 46:48Speaker 1: it's either zero and zero sports or it's O and
- 46:51Speaker 1: O sports. I don't know which it is, but, uh, he,
- 46:54Speaker 1: he tweeted this out yesterday. He said it, said it
- 46:57Speaker 1: last week. And I'll say it again. The only reason
- 46:59Speaker 1: Kentucky is in a consensus AP taught Tim team is
- 47:03Speaker 1: because of the logo on their helmets. You think that's true, Justin? No. Why?
- 47:10Speaker 1: Because I honestly, I take the fan bias out. I
- 47:15Speaker 1: kind of believe that because I think you had that
- 47:17Speaker 1: identity problem at the very beginning. And I think UK
- 47:20Speaker 1: is going through that very same issue.
- 47:23Speaker 2: I mean, look, you're number 12 in the country. So
- 47:26Speaker 2: you're two spots away from being top 10. So I
- 47:29Speaker 2: think this whole thing is kind of dumb anyways. If
- 47:32Speaker 2: that's how you want to look at it, they'd be
- 47:34Speaker 2: top 10. Oh, so they'd be two spots higher if
- 47:37Speaker 2: they didn't have Kentucky on their helmet.
- 47:40Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 47:40Speaker 2: To me, I look back at that Alabama game, and, yeah,
- 47:43Speaker 2: that was week two, and, yeah, Alabama's proved that they're
- 47:46Speaker 2: pretty solid, although they have lost two.
- 47:48Speaker 1: In a row. They haven't been solid. Yeah, exactly.
- 47:51Speaker 2: I mean, if you lose that Alabama game by, I
- 47:55Speaker 2: don't know, Three, ten points, somewhere in that range. Yeah,
- 47:58Speaker 2: but you're already in the top ten.
- 48:00Speaker 1: I don't think the score dictates how that game played
- 48:03Speaker 1: out because, you know, most of those points were scored
- 48:06Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter, late in the fourth quarter. So
- 48:10Speaker 1: I don't know if I necessarily agree. Again, it's just
- 48:13Speaker 1: another prime example of Kentucky getting a lot of credit there.
- 48:19Speaker 1: And this is from somebody that's not a Kentucky media mind.
- 48:23Speaker 2: No, it's like I say all the time. Just continue
- 48:24Speaker 2: to win. This will all work itself out.
- 48:27Speaker 1: Well, we'll see. Because it does make me nervous that
- 48:32Speaker 1: UK's picked by 11 and a half points. Is it still?
- 48:34Speaker 1: I haven't seen the spread in a couple of days.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Is it because it was varying between 10 and a
- 48:38Speaker 1: half and 11 and a half? And it does make
- 48:41Speaker 1: me nervous because I think UK always plays better with
- 48:44Speaker 1: the chip on the shoulder. Now, granted, they did beat
- 48:47Speaker 1: South Alabama. They beat Youngstown State as a pick to
- 48:51Speaker 1: win those games. But this is a SEC game. I
- 48:55Speaker 1: know it's Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt hadn't won an SEC game all
- 48:58Speaker 1: year long, but I still get a little nervous about it.
- 49:01Speaker 1: It's ten and a half. Okay, it's down to ten
- 49:03Speaker 1: and a half. So, big deal. Still a big point spread. Yeah. Huge.
- 49:07Speaker 1: I mean, what should Vanderbilt beat? I mean, what should
- 49:11Speaker 1: UK beat Vanderbilt by? Double digits to be able to
- 49:15Speaker 1: make everybody happy out there that, yeah, maybe they move
- 49:19Speaker 1: up a little bit. or maybe they stay around the same.
- 49:22Speaker 1: How do they satisfy? How does UK satisfy the national media?
- 49:26Speaker 2: For the love of God, you know what this fan
- 49:27Speaker 2: base needs more than anything else?
- 49:29Speaker 1: What's that? A not close victory. Well, see, I agree
- 49:32Speaker 1: with you there.
- 49:33Speaker 2: A game that doesn't come down to the fourth quarter
- 49:35Speaker 2: and you're still nervous as all get out. If they
- 49:38Speaker 2: win this game, About 17, 21 points, somewhere in that ballpark. Man,
- 49:44Speaker 2: that would do a lot for not only the fan base,
- 49:46Speaker 2: but I think the national media as well. Even though
- 49:49Speaker 2: this game's at home, if you win it in a
- 49:51Speaker 2: big way, everybody's going to feel good about this team,
- 49:54Speaker 2: which I think a majority of people already do.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Yeah, so you're thinking it's got to be at least
- 49:58Speaker 1: a double digit. At least a double digit. Yeah. win
- 50:03Speaker 1: or spread. So everybody's asked to wear blue this weekend.
- 50:07Speaker 1: We'll talk more about that on Friday to get you
- 50:09Speaker 1: prepared so you don't forget, but everybody's asked to wear blue. So,
- 50:13Speaker 1: and he wants, Will Stein mentioned yesterday, he wants that
- 50:17Speaker 1: environment that we saw at LSU. He wants that same
- 50:21Speaker 1: type of environment, the crowd loud, the crowd there early, everything,
- 50:26Speaker 1: and out there screaming their minds off.
- 50:29Speaker 2: I don't think we're at the point in the season
- 50:31Speaker 2: where he has to continue to beg for that.
- 50:34Speaker 1: I didn't take it as far as begging.
- 50:36Speaker 2: I think the people are going to show up, and
- 50:38Speaker 2: they're going to be loud.
- 50:39Speaker 1: Well, clearly they are because the game's already sold out.
- 50:42Speaker 1: When's the last time a Vanderbilt game was sold out?
- 50:45Speaker 1: Of all teams, Vanderbilt is sold out, which really surprises me.
- 50:50Speaker 1: People are on that hype train, choo-choo. You're exactly correct.
- 50:54Speaker 1: John here. Michael, I know football is doing great. However,
- 50:57Speaker 1: this morning I am thinking about our basketball cats. With
- 51:01Speaker 1: current starting five, Coach Pope put out there for our
- 51:06Speaker 1: last exhibition game from the remaining players, who do you
- 51:09Speaker 1: feel we need a lot from to really help this team?
- 51:14Speaker 1: I am thinking McBride or even Frank Kepnang. because he
- 51:19Speaker 1: might be our only other true center on the team
- 51:22Speaker 1: behind Moreno. I know we have shooters on the bench
- 51:26Speaker 1: as well, but that is who I was thinking about. Okay, Justin.
- 51:34Speaker 1: I think that's two good picks right there. It is.
- 51:37Speaker 2: With the four and the five spots kind of, I
- 51:41Speaker 2: don't want to call them in limbo, but kind of
- 51:43Speaker 2: weaker than every other position on the floor.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I would say Justin McBride and Frank
- 51:48Speaker 2: Kepnong are perfect answers.
- 51:52Speaker 1: Listen, I think it's going to be, you're going to
- 51:54Speaker 1: think I'm crazy, but I think Braden Hawthorne is going
- 51:56Speaker 1: to come out there and make a little bit of
- 51:58Speaker 1: a difference. He's going to get out there. They're going
- 52:00Speaker 1: to get him open. He's going to make some big shots.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Mason Williams is who I'm going to say. Mason Williams
- 52:06Speaker 1: is going to be the surprise player the entire season.
- 52:08Speaker 1: They've talked about him in practice. They've talked about him
- 52:10Speaker 1: on the team. And you saw a little bit of
- 52:13Speaker 1: taste of him last Friday night, which wasn't much, but
- 52:16Speaker 1: it was a lot more than people give him credit for.
- 52:20Speaker 1: I think it's going to be Mason Williams as well
- 52:23Speaker 1: as I'm still going with NJ. Usman is going to
- 52:26Speaker 1: be my man. Okay. Usman, my man. That sounds silly.
- 52:33Speaker 1: That was. But no, I'm going. I get the whole
- 52:36Speaker 1: Dustin McBride thing. Everybody's picking Milan Momtilevich. I get that
- 52:41Speaker 1: as well. I would like to see a little more
- 52:43Speaker 1: out of Malachi Moreno. Just saying.
- 52:45Speaker 2: Who's the kid that went door-to-door with Trent Noah, giving
- 52:49Speaker 2: the season ticket holders their bags?
- 52:52Speaker 1: I remember that. I don't remember who it was, though.
- 52:56Speaker 1: That's going to bug me. Yeah, I don't know who
- 52:59Speaker 1: that was.
- 53:00Speaker 2: Because it's somebody that I'm not expecting anything from.
- 53:03Speaker 1: Oh, Jerome Morton. Okay.
- 53:06Speaker 2: I could see him having some surprise games that really
- 53:10Speaker 2: helps this team out.
- 53:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. I just wish we could get more weight
- 53:13Speaker 1: on Braden Hawthorne. I mean, the strength and conditioning code's
- 53:16Speaker 1: got to get in there. Dude, we're going to go
- 53:18Speaker 1: get you a bunch of cake, and we're going to
- 53:20Speaker 1: Baskin Robbins, and we're going to get you filled up
- 53:22Speaker 1: with ice cream. I wish I was that skinny, by
- 53:27Speaker 1: the way. I do. I mean, I wish I was,
- 53:29Speaker 1: I mean, would you ever like to be that skinny?
- 53:34Speaker 1: Not particularly. No.
- 53:35Speaker 2: I mean, but I mean, then again, I've never really
- 53:38Speaker 2: been skinny. I was, I've always kind of been big.
- 53:40Speaker 1: Oh, I have.
- 53:40Speaker 2: I mean, even when I was in high school, I
- 53:42Speaker 2: had a six pack, but I wouldn't, I still wasn't skinny.
- 53:45Speaker 1: Yeah. I was, I've always been just kind of a
- 53:47Speaker 1: bigger dude. Um, big bones. Kind of like your women. Uh,
- 53:54Speaker 1: Why do you think I like him like that? I know.
- 53:56Speaker 1: One person texted in, the 24 playoff benefit, the SEC,
- 54:01Speaker 1: who's your Hank? So your name, oh, okay, here you go.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Who's your Hank? You got to put your, Justin, you
- 54:09Speaker 1: got to go fix that. So he's now, who's your Hank? Okay.
- 54:13Speaker 1: All right. So yeah, the 24 playoff benefits, the SEC. Yes. Yes.
- 54:19Speaker 1: I think it benefits both the SEC and Big Ten.
- 54:22Speaker 1: That's what I was getting ready to say. Yeah, it's
- 54:24Speaker 1: not just the SEC. It also helps the Big Ten.
- 54:29Speaker 1: Come on, Hoosier Hank. You should know that. It helps
- 54:31Speaker 1: your own conference as well. So it's going to get
- 54:34Speaker 1: more SEC and Big Ten teams in. That's why people
- 54:39Speaker 1: are really celebrating this within those fan bases of those conferences.
- 54:43Speaker 1: Because it helps your conference. Michigan has the largest football stadium.
- 54:50Speaker 1: Do they really? I think so. I've been there before.
- 54:53Speaker 1: I think that's, I thought Texas A & M did.
- 54:54Speaker 1: I apologize. Then you're, you're right. The big house is
- 54:57Speaker 1: the biggest. So yeah. And it, you know, it doesn't
- 55:00Speaker 1: feel that, especially when you're walking around the outside of it.
- 55:03Speaker 1: Have you been to it before? Really neat. Ann Arbor. Yeah.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Cause you walk outside. It's like, really? That doesn't look like.
- 55:09Speaker 1: And then you walk in.
- 55:10Speaker 2: It's like, Oh my gosh. Cause the stadium, the field
- 55:13Speaker 2: is underneath the ground. I never, I didn't even get
- 55:16Speaker 2: to walk in. I just had to look at it
- 55:18Speaker 2: through the gates.
- 55:19Speaker 1: Yeah. And it's still ridiculously impressive. Oh, really? Kyle Field,
- 55:23Speaker 1: by the way, number four. Kyle Field's number four? Who's
- 55:27Speaker 1: two and three? Penn State and Ohio State. Wow. It
- 55:30Speaker 1: just means the most in the Big Ten. Oh, there
- 55:33Speaker 1: we go. Okay, then. 48 Hanley said, let's get ready
- 55:38Speaker 1: to rumble. Scoots in one corner, Michael in the other.
- 55:44Speaker 1: You know, you said it before the end of your show.
- 55:48Speaker 1: You and I are not fighters. No. No. I'll use
- 55:51Speaker 1: my mouth to fight, but I am not a physical fighter.
- 55:54Speaker 1: I'm a lover before I will ever be a fighter.
- 55:57Speaker 1: I don't even want to use my mouth. Yeah. And
- 55:59Speaker 1: I can honestly say this. In my entire life, I've
- 56:02Speaker 1: never been in a fight. I know you said you had, right?
- 56:06Speaker 1: Fourth grade. Fourth grade. Yeah. I've never been. Black is
- 56:12Speaker 1: emblematic of darkness. Know who's called the prince of darkness. Yes,
- 56:17Speaker 1: I do. Leave the colors alone. Go big blue and white. Yeah.
- 56:22Speaker 1: I get it. But you know what? If the players
- 56:26Speaker 1: want it, I'm for it. Even though I might not
- 56:29Speaker 1: like it, I'm for it. Because that's what motivates these
- 56:34Speaker 1: players to attend UK. I mean, look at, name some
- 56:38Speaker 1: of the schools that have just been had famous uniform
- 56:42Speaker 1: color schemes. And I think number one out there is Oregon.
- 56:48Speaker 1: And those players go nuts for those. And it's all
- 56:50Speaker 1: because of Nike. Mm-hmm. But I would say Maryland is
- 56:55Speaker 1: right behind them. And for years you had the owner
- 56:58Speaker 1: that went to Maryland of, oh, what's that other brand?
- 57:03Speaker 1: I can't think of it. Oh, shoot. And I actually
- 57:05Speaker 1: kind of like it. Not Adidas, but. Under Armour? Under Armour.
- 57:10Speaker 1: That's it. Yeah. The owner of Under, or the guy
- 57:12Speaker 1: that started Under Armour, went to Maryland. And so they
- 57:15Speaker 1: would always have some pretty cool uniforms. So. I like them.
- 57:22Speaker 1: You do? Mm-hmm. Okay.
- 57:24Speaker 2: I always think of, maybe not so much as football,
- 57:28Speaker 2: but I always think of UCLA, too.
- 57:31Speaker 1: Really? I like their uniform combos. I guess I hadn't
- 57:35Speaker 1: paid attention to them. The only thing I paid attention
- 57:37Speaker 1: to at UCLA is their dance team.
- 57:39Speaker 2: I don't.
- 57:40Speaker 1: Yeah, sorry. I've never really paid attention to them either,
- 57:42Speaker 1: but now I have to. They're in the Big Ten.
- 57:46Speaker 1: Robert E. Lee went through West Point without a single demerit.
- 57:51Speaker 1: They have other shows where you can express your political views. Yeah.
- 57:57Speaker 1: Love Don Henley, like Phil Collins, a drummer who also
- 58:00Speaker 1: sang Lee vocals. You broached that subject on one of
- 58:05Speaker 1: your shows months ago. Yeah, that is a fun topic,
- 58:09Speaker 1: by the way. Lead singers who are drummers. And the
- 58:13Speaker 1: only ones I can think of are Don Henley and
- 58:15Speaker 1: Phil Collins. And I know there's more out there. I
- 58:19Speaker 1: think it was more prevalent back in the 70s and 80s.
- 58:22Speaker 1: I don't think you see it as much as you
- 58:24Speaker 1: do anymore. I couldn't tell you. Really? Okay. You know me.
- 58:29Speaker 1: I don't follow the lead singers and drummers. I know
- 58:31Speaker 1: you should.
- 58:33Speaker 2: Heck, I couldn't even tell you half the band members
- 58:36Speaker 2: for Zac Brown Band. That's my favorite in the world.
- 58:39Speaker 1: All right. I have been married. This is from Mr. Illinois.
- 58:42Speaker 1: I've been married for almost two years and have started
- 58:45Speaker 1: to realize more and more that a key to a
- 58:47Speaker 1: happy marriage as a man is sometimes apologizing for the
- 58:50Speaker 1: small things that may not even be my, uh, be
- 58:54Speaker 1: your fault. Michael, do you agree? Absolutely. That was one
- 58:57Speaker 1: of those things I learned from my dad is that
- 59:00Speaker 1: even though you might be right, you go and apologize
- 59:03Speaker 1: to your wife. In those times, no. I apologize constantly
- 59:09Speaker 1: because I'm always wrong. Anyway, but no. And that's the
- 59:13Speaker 1: smart thing to do, Mr. Illinois. I'm going to tell
- 59:15Speaker 1: you right now. And I'm going to give you a
- 59:17Speaker 1: little bit of gibberish because, you know, somebody was telling
- 59:20Speaker 1: me I did a little gibberish. I don't remember what
- 59:22Speaker 1: texture that was. Flexible. Oh, is that who it was? Okay.
- 59:27Speaker 1: But no, anyway, I miss your Coffee Chronicles. Where's the
- 59:31Speaker 1: Morning Coffee Chronicles? He probably, after the week he had
- 59:34Speaker 1: last week, probably gave it up. You think so? I
- 59:36Speaker 1: want the Morning Brew Chronicles. I probably wouldn't be drinking
- 59:39Speaker 1: cold brew anymore. I've never missed more of that in
- 59:42Speaker 1: my life, just to let you know. One person texted, Justin,
- 59:46Speaker 1: this is Josh. There's another one. What's up, Josh? Yeah,
- 59:49Speaker 1: you need to add this one. I think the one
- 59:51Speaker 1: guy that Kentucky has to have play well is Zoom Diallo.
- 59:56Speaker 1: Plenty of shooters. They're not necessarily a strong team in
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: the paint. Zoom must get them shots. See, that's the
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: one thing that probably concerned me the most. And, Josh,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: you're absolutely 1,000% correct. Because the one thing that concerned
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: me about the exhibition game last weekend was the guard play.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: Nobody– there wasn't a guard taking up for the better
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: part of the entire game. Now, granted, I know it's
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: an exhibition, but I'd like to see the guards taking
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: the ball off the court in transition. They weren't doing it.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: It's like, where's the guard play? So, yes, we need
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: a court general, and the number one guy that's going
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: to be that court general is going to be Zoom Diallo. So, Justin,
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: you killed it right there. I mean, Josh, you did.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: Do you trust him– From an offensive standpoint, though, because
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: if I have my druthers, I think Wilkins is the
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: guy offensively. Whereas I see Zoom as more of just
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: a A distributor, take care of the ball.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: That's what I'm talking about.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: Get everybody where they need to be. I don't know
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: that he's going to be a threat to score all
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: that often.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: I wasn't talking about scoring. I want Zoom out there
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: as the floor general. You have to have a floor
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: general in order to have a successful team. Zoom has
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: to be that guy. And I hope he wakes up
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: pretty soon and realizes, hey, I'm that guy. They said
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: that he was in practice. You clearly knew who was
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: in charge of this team. Well, I didn't really see
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: that last weekend. Now, I know it's early, so I'm
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: hoping I see that Friday night against Texas Tech. We're
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: going to see. So, Josh, completely agree with you 1,000%.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: You're right on task right there. One person, Zach texted in,
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: would you rather make the playoffs or a shot to
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: be the last? I mean, I already read that. Why
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: is that coming up again? That's weird. It turned green. Okay. Well,
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: never mind. 48 Hanley said the Derby is about storylines
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: and Mark Glatt was one of the best as he
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: lost his wife a few months before. It ended up
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: being up on a happy note in terms of So
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: Happy's performance, but the support of the entire California racing
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: community for Mark was something we could all get behind.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: And it was. And it was just because, you know,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I've got some really good friends that own So Happy
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: that were on the radio. Remember? I do. You were
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: there with me. At the backside, that was Hans and
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Anna Marin that owned So Happy. And they just, they
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: rave about Mark Glatt. And they're very loyal to him.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: And that was just a heart-grinching story because it all
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: happened unexpectedly back in February. And people just kind of
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: fell in love with Mark Glatt and the horse So Happy.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: And Mark's got a tremendous family that surrounds him. with
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: his daughter and his son, and they support him, and
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: they support each other, and they've done well. So, Wilkins
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: can get his shot. So, do you think Wilkins will
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: get his shot?
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Why? I just think he's just more capable, more skilled offensively. Yeah. Than, like,
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: a Zoom Diallo. Really?
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: I'm telling you right now, I'm expecting Wilkins to average
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: at least 15.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: You said this a few times about Alex Wilkins. I'm
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: high on it. Okay, all right.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: There's just something about coming from a smaller school where
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: you were the man, and now you're coming to one
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: of the big boys, and you've got to prove it.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: I just think that chip on his shoulder, kind of
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: like Will Stein, is going to allow him to be
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: a really good player. Yeah, 480 Hanley said he can
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: get the biscuit in the basket.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: I like that. And the other reason he's right, he
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: said quick release. That makes a difference. And he shoots higher, too,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: because those guys that, I don't know, I'm trying to
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: think who it was that shot so low. Who was
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: the guard last year for UK? I'm already drawing a blank.
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: He just injured himself, and he's out the entire season
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: with the Achilles injury. That was his name. Oh, geez.
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: Isn't that terrible? The Pittsburgh kid, right? Didn't he come
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: from Pittsburgh? Did he come from Pittsburgh?
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh. What was his name? The one that
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: hurt her shoulder. I can't think of it. I cannot
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: believe nobody's texted it. I know. Otega. Oh, my gosh. Otega. Oh, wait.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: That's not who I was thinking. No, no. Otega had that.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: Because you remember he got back from the NBA, not
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: the tryouts, but the showcase that they do. No, it
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: was the tryouts before he got drafted, the year before.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: And they told him to change his shot, and it
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: really messed him up, and he started shooting even lower.
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: That's one of the things Al Wilkins does well, is
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: he shoots high. And it is quick release. I was
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: thinking of Jalen Lowe. Oh, yeah, Jalen Lowe. No, no,
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: I was thinking of him. So, anyway, yeah. All right,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: we've got to take another break. 502-414-1450. Keep those text
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: messages coming in. But we've got to talk about– some
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: UK volleyball news and a mid season coach of the
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: year was announced yesterday. We'll talk about that too. Cause
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: people are really talking about it. And really we're going
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: to do this again to a fan base. Let them
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: have their fun. So let's talk about that as well.
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: Stay right there. More, just the cats coming up. She's
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: got it all. Black market.
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: Shoes. This loud Cuban band is crucifying John Lennon.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: I think this is one of the most underrated John
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: Mellencamp songs.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: No one wants to be lonely.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: I love this song. I don't disagree with you on that. Really?
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: And it's never played. It's always check it out, pink houses,
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: hurt so good. You never hear this song. And I
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: love that song. Anyway, I've just always... Have you ever...
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: Run into John Mellencamp at a game up there while
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: you were at IU.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: I have not, but I always tell people that he
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: is the celebrity that I have seen the most in
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: my life.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Really?
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: So I was an usher for Indiana for basketball games.
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: I was midcourt in the upper deck, and his season tickets...
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: were across the stadium from me, and I knew exactly
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: where he sat every game.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: That's cool.
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: So every game I would look for him, and he'd
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: be there more times than not.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: Would he really? I've technically seen him more than any
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: other celebrity. That's pretty cool.
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: But I've never gotten the chance to talk to him.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: See, back when I was in college, I dated a
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: girl that went to IU. Okay. And I'm stopped at
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: a stoplight. And here comes this old, old, old, like,
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: 50s car that's a convertible. And I'm looking at the
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: car and not paying attention who's in it. And then
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: it's John Mellencamp. And he saw me with my facial expression.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: I mean, my jaw dropped because I was like, oh,
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: I'm still a big fan of John Mellencamp. And he
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: just started laughing at me. And then the light turned
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: green and he drove off. And I'm like, wow, what
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: an experience. The car behind me blew their horn because
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: I wasn't going. You didn't even get to say anything? No,
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: I didn't get to say a word. It's like, oh
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: my gosh, it's John Mellencamp. Well, at the time, I
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: think it was Johnny Cougar. I don't know which it
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: was at the time.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: I did get to meet when I was in college.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: I think you and Trevor were talking about him on Monday.
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: Angelo Pizzo?
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: Who is that? The writer of Hoosiers? Oh, really? I
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: did get to meet and talk to him for a
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: little bit. Really? Now, how did that transpire? So I
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: was at, oh, I guess this was after college.
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: This might have been when I first got in radio
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: here at Big X. Honestly, I think I was up
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: there on a media credential watching a football practice inside
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: the Mellencamp Center. And for whatever reason, Pizzo was there.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: I sat and chatted with him for Probably 10, 15 minutes.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: Did you really? Yeah, he was an awesome guy. You know,
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: they always say never meet your hero because they're not
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: what you think they are. I've never had that experience
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: with every celebrity I've ever met. I've never, literally never
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: had that experience. Same. And I'm so thankful that's never happened. So, anyway.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: What do you think about University of Tennessee getting fined
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: half a million dollars? Because of their... going on the
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: field after the outfit. They rushed the field at the
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: L and I'm like, that's the part. Excuse me. I
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: want to talk about first because they just beat Alabama
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: two years earlier in 2024. Why are they rushing the
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: field for that game? That doesn't make any sense. It
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: didn't make any sense. I didn't even realize they rushed
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: the field. Yes, they did. That's great. And they got
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: fine 500. Now I am tired of this whole fine thing.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: I know it's Tennessee and it we're supposed to complain
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: about Tennessee all the time, but this is ridiculous. And
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: of course, Alabama is going to get the advantage of
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: that rush in the field for $ 500, 000. Cause UK is
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: never going to get that advantage. Maybe years down the road.
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: They continue to win, but I just think it's silly. Yeah.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: Let the fans have their fun. Am I wrong to
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: say that? No, I mean, because I'm right there with you.
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: I think the whole, look, I get it. Rushing the
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: field or court can be dangerous, but it's not always dangerous.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: I would say more times. It's not, nothing has ever happened.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: Don't be a dummy when you go out there and
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: everything will be a okay. Well, don't be the jerk
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: like that Texas kid that was out in the field
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: and flipping the bird. It's like, why are you doing that?
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: Did you see that video of him doing that? And
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: the Florida players are just talking back at them and
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: they didn't respond to him. But a lot of people
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: are like, we need to find this kid. And evidently
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: his dad gives a lot of money to Texas, but
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: you know, that's, That's inappropriate. If you're on the field,
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: you got to act appropriately. Listen, when I'm down there
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: and I've watched UK lose games, trust me, I have
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: wanted to run up to the referees and yell at them.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: It's like, no, I can't do that. Give them the
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: backwards piece. Yeah. Oh, you remember that?
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: Yeah. I was listening. Okay. Yeah, you were listening. I
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: appreciate that. But I just like, no, you can't do that.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: You need to act a pro. If you're on the field,
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: you need to act a completely different way. If you're
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: a player, you need to act a completely different way.
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: If you're a coach, you need to act a completely
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: different way.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: Well, maybe Tennessee just knew what was coming with their
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: basketball team last night, so they just figured they needed
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: to celebrate something.
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: God, that was pretty bad, wasn't it? What was it,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: a 40-point difference? Yeah, 103 to 64. Yeah. Now, granted,
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: I know that's an exhibition game, but that was scary. Yeah.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: And now, you had to say it yesterday. Now I'm
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: really worried. Here we go. They're going to win. Why
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: are all these players going to Duke? Because it's Duke.
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: Mike Krzyzewski is gone. It don't matter. It's still Duke.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: It's another goofy coach out there. What are they doing
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: that's so different that wants these players to go play
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: at a tiny little old antiquated coliseum and play for Duke?
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: It's more intimate. Oh, they like the intimacy? Is that
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: what it is? They want to be intimate? No, I mean, honestly,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: I think it's that simple as it's Duke. All right.
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: I don't think it needs to be more complicated than that.
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: But as much as you hate them, it is Duke.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: But the richer tradition comes at UK. Why do they
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: want to go to Duke and not UK? And the
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: same was true. And it's not just don't tell me
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: it's because of Mark Pope. Same was true with John Calipari.
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: Why were they wanting to go to Duke? And not
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: come to UK. What is the actual difference? I don't
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: think that's the case, though. I mean, there's players that
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: want to go to both places. Yeah. I just don't
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: know why you want to go to Duke. I really don't.
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: It's North Carolina. I don't get it. North Carolina's great.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: Is it really? That's the one place that I always
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: wanted to live. North Carolina? North Carolina. I don't know why. Okay,
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: you don't have any idea why.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: I really, I have no reason as to why I
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: think that, but for whatever reason, yeah, I've always just
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: wanted to live in North Carolina.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: Yeah, meets Florida. I mean, I want- Florida's just gotten
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: too overpopulated. Really? Yeah.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: I mean, heck, even, so when I was living down
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: in Jacksonville with my aunt and my uncle, I mean,
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: their neighborhood, or surrounding their neighborhood is- So much different
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: from when I was living down there 10 years ago.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: And see, Tennessee's getting like that. Yep, very much so.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: People are moving in droves to Tennessee. Is it because
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: the no income tax? People are just wanting to live
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: it up? Yep. So when you retire, they want to
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: move there. Or business, because the no income tax. Businesses
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: are moving there in droves. Retired people are moving there
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: in droves. Because of all those tax advantages. They're not
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: coming to Kentucky anymore. But don't get me started with
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: that because, you know, we don't talk that stuff on
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: this show. Will Stein named midseason college coach of the year.
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: Rightfully so. Because his energy is contagious and translating that
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: to wins in the toughest league in football is the reason.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: He won it over UCLA's Bob Chesney, Utah's Morgan, how
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: do you say his name, Scali, Scali? I think it's Scali.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: I don't know who Utah's coach is. Yeah. And BYU's
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: Kalani Sataki. So, Lance Hurd was also named mid-season All-American. So,
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: on the first team. So, another thing that's just absolutely deserved. So...
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: For those of you that are like, well, he's lost
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: a game. But look, no offense to Bob Chesney. Bob
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: Chesney has not had the schedule that Will Stein has.
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: And Bob Chesney has not beaten two top ten teams.
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: Will Stein has. Now, granted, he did lose a game,
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: but still. I'm giving it to, I think you've said
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: it a couple times, they lost their quarterback, so they're
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: getting ready to experience some losses. Absolutely. I'm going to
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: give it to Will Stein every time. It's deserved. And
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: I know that's a bias. I completely. I'll fully and
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: readily admit it right now. I have a bias. But
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: I look at it and think, who has gone through
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: this kind of schedule and survived and won and succeeded?
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: I don't have a bias, and I agree with you. Well,
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: I'm going to tell you right now. His style, his energy,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: it is completely. I think contagious is the best word
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: to describe it right now. All right, UK women, their
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: basketball team made the preseason AP poll, top 25. Yeah,
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: got ripped off. You think so? Yeah, absolutely. All right,
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: so UK comes in at 14th. Now, let me, and
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: we'll talk about it in a second, Justin, so hold
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: your thought. But South Carolina comes in at number one. Shock, shock, shock.
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: Texas is number six. Vanderbilt is number eight. LSU, number nine.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: All ahead of UK. So you already have one, two, three,
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: four teams ahead of you in your own conference. I mean,
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: and then behind that, you got... Ole Miss at 19
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: and Oklahoma at 21. So you've got four or five,
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: seven teams out of 16 in the top 25 in
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: the SEC. It's just going to be brutal. All right, now,
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: go ahead. UK comes in at 14. Your thoughts?
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: I mean, knowing what I know and looking at this
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: roster and knowing what Kenny Brooks has done at Kentucky
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: so far in his early tenure, I just, this to
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: me is a top 10 team, no question.
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: I'm shocked by it. No question. why are they not
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: is it because they they already saw well we got
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: already four teams from the sec in the top 10
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: we can't put a fifth so we got to put
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: them somewhere else and it's going to be kentucky that's
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: going to receive the negative uh ranking is that the
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: reason why do you think.
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: I wouldn't imagine that no i mean because they're not
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: going to limit a conference on top 10 like like
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: all these voters are putting out their own brackets or
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: their own rankings and that's just how it all how
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: the chips fell but Use it as motivation, Kenny Brooks.
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: You know, I mean, Will Stein's been able to use
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: motivation throughout this season. That's going to fuel this Kentucky
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: team because I don't see a world where they're number 14.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: I really don't. I don't either. And is all my
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: UofL friends, I'm so sorry, but is UofL better than UK?
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: I don't think so. See, I don't either. And they
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: get all the love in the world. They're at seven.
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: Are you kidding me? Seventh in the country? I mean,
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: at least. At least put UK at 10. Then I'd
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: probably be okay with it. But, again, I don't see
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: UofL better than UK. I'll take Kenny Brooks any day,
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: all day. Of course, I love the guy.
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: I admittedly am not as up-to-date with Louisville's women's basketball roster.
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: I do have belief in Jeff Walls just because he
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: does it year after year after year.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: Great guy. Oh, yeah, I love Jeff. Jeff Walls is
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: a great coach.
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: I truly, I cannot understand how. That roster is better than...
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: You're exactly correct. You got Shaquille O'Neal's daughter for crying
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: out loud.
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: Kidding me? That is going to be pretty cool to
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: have Shaquille O'Neal at the games. Although not cool for
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: the guy sitting behind him. Well, that's a great point.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: They should require him to sit in the last row.
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Or off in the corner by himself. You've never experienced
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: having kids playing sports. And I... Part of me enjoyed it,
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: but there were times I hated it. I didn't like
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: watching my boys out there playing because it's like, oh,
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: I don't want to be that parent yelling. That's the
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: one thing I worked on the most is I don't
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: want to be the yelling parent. I just want to
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: have fun. There's enough of them. And I got to
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: a point where my youngest son, who really excelled at baseball,
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: I got to a point where I really enjoyed watching
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: him play. It just took a while. But watching him
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: and my older son play football and basketball and stuff
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: is like, yeah. There's enough yelling people out there. They
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: don't need an additional one. It's exhausting. It is exhausting.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: By the way, UK extended, and I'm going to take
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: credit for this, okay? I am taking credit right now.
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: I texted him last night. and he said, Michael, you're right.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: You get all the credit in the world. UK extends
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: volleyball coach Craig Skinner's contract, which now runs through 2031
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: and adds two more years to his contract. I'm taking
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: credit because I told him he should get a better contract.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: I'll give you credit. Will you?
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: Although it doesn't sound like you need me to give
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: it because you're taking it.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: I did have fun with him last night and said, hey,
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: I get a little commission for that, don't I? He
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: just laughed at me and didn't say anything else. He's like,
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: come on, Craig. You owe me something. He knows you're
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: a horseman. Well, that's very true. I know. When I
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: ran into him, last time I ran into him, he goes,
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: you're really into those horses, aren't you? I said, yeah, why?
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: What's wrong with that? I mean, he was kind of
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: making fun of me. UK did announce yesterday that 27
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: former cats made NBA rosters with the season starting last night. Yeah.
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: I mentioned this on my show this morning. What did
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: you say?
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: Indiana basketball put out a post and it was like,
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: good luck to all of our Hoosiers in the NBA.
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: And there were four guys on the poster. Kentucky had
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: six players in three games yesterday.
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: Yeah. I just don't think it's great. I mean, you
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: had all I always thought it was a knock towards
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: Cal because Cal really promoted it. But I thought, you know, well,
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: wait a minute now. If all those players in the NBA,
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: shouldn't you have maybe one or two more championships? Probably so.
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: That's what I think. You don't want to look at
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: it that way, though. That's the way I look at it.
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: Stinking thinking. OK, it is stinking thinking. And I'm thinking, well,
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: the stinking coach. So there you go.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: So, all right, we got to take our last break.
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: I'll get to your text as soon as we get back. Plus,
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: we got to talk about this Canadian tourist. He is
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: facing four and a half years of prison time, and
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: it's deserved. We'll talk about that next. Stay right there.
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: One more segment of Just the Cats coming right up
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: after this. I saw you first.
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: All right, so there was a Canadian tourist.
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: That estimated to have drank 30 to 40 beers. Whoa.
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: And decided to, while he was staying at the Flamingo
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: Las Vegas Casino Hotel Resort, decided he thought it would
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: be funny to steal one of the live flamingos and
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: take it to his room. So you think it's funny.
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: Hell yeah. And now this tourist is facing four and
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: a half years in prison for doing it. That's crazy.
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: Is it really? I showed a picture of him in
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: court and he's just, I mean, he's crying out of
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: his mind. He's like, dude, I had 30 to 40 beers.
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: What do you expect me to do? I saw that story.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: It's like, okay, is this funny or is this not funny?
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: That's hilarious. It is hilarious. But how do you keep
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: people from doing it? Cause you're right. I think it's funny.
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: It's scary to have 30 to 40 beers. If I
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: had 30 to 40 beers, I'd be out of my mind. Oh,
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: I'd probably be taking a Flamingo, too. You would be? Absolutely.
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: But you have to teach this person and everybody else
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: out there. You can't do stealing Flamingo stuff. Well, I think, well,
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: Flamingo Casino, maybe you shouldn't have live Flamingos. Just have
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: some fake ones out there because it's going to happen more. Yeah.
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: What do you think? Who is at fault here? The
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: Flamingo Resort for having live flamingos? Or you think it's
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: the fault of the Canadian tourist that's now facing four
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: and a half years?
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: Any chance we can blame a Canadian, that's the road
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: I'm going to take.
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: So it's his fault. You're going to blame the Canadians.
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: This reminds me a lot of a story that I
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: read late last week. Have you seen the story about
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: the little boy with the lobsters at the Mexican resort?
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: No.
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: So apparently there's this resort in Mexico that has all
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: these live lobsters in a tank that they use for cooking, right? Well,
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: the little boy, it made him sad. And so he
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: goes to his room after looking at these lobsters, and
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: he doesn't change anything else about his clothes, but he
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: puts on a Spider-Man mask. And he goes back to
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: the tank, and he proceeds to take a couple of
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: the lobsters And take them down to the ocean and
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: put them in the ocean.
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: Oh, nice! Because he wants to save them all, right? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: Well, then the parents, they get hit with like a $ 4, 000
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: bill because this little boy was caught on camera taking
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: lobsters and releasing them.
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: And- That costs them a bunch of money. Wow. Could
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: you imagine, like, if you're a parent, would you pay
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: that bill? Yeah. You would? Yeah, absolutely. I'd be like,
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: I'm not paying it. My son's just an idiot. Sorry. No,
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: you are stuck with that bill. He's got a soft heart.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: What do you want from him? Yeah, but you know what?
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: You can't release those things. Anyway, but that's a nice
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: little story right there. One person texted in.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: I hope we can just let this team play and
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: get it figured out. I can't make it the whole
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: season with these ridiculous fans and media. Preach, bro. Preach.
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: I'm right there with you. But be realistic. I mean,
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: let's just be realistic. So that's the only thing. And
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: I'm worried that fans are.
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: I mean, being realistic is the fact that you're going
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: to lose games. But there's not a reason to freak
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: the bleep out after every loss because.
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: They're going to happen. Zach texted out, said, did you
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: see the video of the Tennessee AD? The guy filming
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: asked him if it's worth it. His response was, it's
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: worth it every time. I love that. I love that
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: they're saying that. Yes. And I would agree with that.
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: I did not see the video. Did you see the video?
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: I didn't. And I'm like, video then proceeds to show
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: the field and everyone storming from a suite. That's fantastic.
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: Because I think that would be the case with J-Bat.
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: J-Bat would totally agree. It's given UK football and UK
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: for that fact, all athletics, the biggest marketing probably in
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: the history of UK football. You can't deny it. Just
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: by winning that game and the fans going down there
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: and celebrating, what... This staff has done for UK football
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: and the fan base is nothing short of amazing. And
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: I love it. No, I did not see that. And
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: I wish I got to go look it up now
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: to see it. I lived at Fort Bragg, North Carolina
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: for two and a half years. You had the beach
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: at Wilmington and the mountains in Asheville. Billy Graham, probably
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: the most famous North Carolinian. Ooh, that's a good question
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: right there. Is Billy Graham the most famous person from
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: North Carolina? I'm going to take 48 Handley's word for it. Yeah.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: But these rides, you do have the Smoky Mountains at
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: one end and the ocean at the other end.
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: Maybe that's why I like North Carolina. I mean, you
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: just get a little bit of everything.
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: I kind of like South Carolina a little more because
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: you get all the golf down in South Carolina. Yeah.
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: And you got the same thing. You got the mountains
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: at one spot. My grandmother's from North Carolina or South Carolina.
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: She's from Cherokee, South Carolina, just outside of Clemson. And
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: then you got the beautiful, you got Myrtle Beach. You
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: got Hilton Head and all the golf courses around there.
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: I'm taking South Carolina for that fact.
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: So other people born in North Carolina? You got Andy Griffith. Oh,
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: I forgot about Andy Griffith.
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: Yes. Andrew Jackson. Andrew Jackson. Okay. And Steph Curry. Wait, wait, wait.
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: Andrew Jackson? Yeah, seventh president of the United States. Really?
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: Because I relayed him to Tennessee. They got his home
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: down there in Nashville. He was born in North Carolina. Wow,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: I had no idea. And then you said Seth Curry?
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: Steph Curry. Or Steph Curry. Oh, yeah, Seth too, I guess.
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: I didn't know they were from North Carolina. Yeah, he
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: played at Davidson. I knew he played at Davidson. I
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: just didn't realize they grew up in North Carolina. Grew
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: up in Charlotte. Cool. Okay, then. Well, thank you for
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: that quick looking up there. That's the part I love.
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: You're quick to the draw on this stuff. I'm just
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: inherently curious. Yes, I am too. For stuff like this. Yep, yep.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: Right there with it. All right. Former Vanderbilt quarterback. Here
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: we go. I was waiting for you. Diego Pavia is
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: currently in negotiations to play in the UFL. Please, not
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: the Kings. Please, dear God, not the Kings. November 18th,
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: which is coming up, is the start of the UFL
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: draft that's going to happen in St. Louis. Would you
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: root for the Kings if they... Oh, come on!
- 1:28:39Speaker 3: No.
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: You're killing me unless unless it meant that i got
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: to have a few drinks with pavia's mom before a
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: game that's the.
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: Only way uh-huh okay All right, then. No, I'm out.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: If he gets drafted by the Kings, I am out.
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: I will find another team. I've never been more disappointed
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: in you in my life. Now I'm begging and pleading
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: with the Louisville Kings, please go get him and bring
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: him to Louisville.
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: You better call up Chris Redman and let him know
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: your thoughts.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh. No, I don't have Chris Redman's contact information.
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: If somebody has it, I am calling him. I would
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: call him in a second. To say you've got to
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: go get Pavia. How much fun would that be? Oh,
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: my gosh. Wait, wait, wait. But what if his mom
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: came to all the games? No, I mean, that would
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: be the one positive. Okay, then there you go.
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: But does his mom coming to all the games outweigh
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: having to hear you every day? Pavia for MVP. Best
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: quarterback in the league. I just don't know if I
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: can deal with it.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: Oh, come on. All right. New York Knicks celebrated in
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: their first game last night. since the NBA started, celebrated
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: their NBA championship and got their rings. Have you seen
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: the rings that they got? I didn't look up the rings. Oh,
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: you got to look them up. All I know is
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: they took that L. Yeah, they definitely did that. But, man,
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: the rings, I mean, they're unbelievable. Those are cool. Okay,
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: so the top of the ring pops off, and it
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: shows the inside of Madison Square Garden. Mm-hmm. The basketball
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: court and then the stadium, the stands. And I thought
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: whoever designed that deserves a reward because, man, those are cool.
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: I'm just scared that thing's going to pop off and
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: we're going to lose the top. That's the only thing
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: I'd be scared of. That's why you keep it in
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: a protective box and never open it again. Well, but
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: you know, if you had won a championship ring in
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: any sport, wouldn't you want to wear it? No. I've
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: also never been a ring guy. Oh, you haven't? Okay.
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: All right, then. Fair enough. I mean, my buddy Marty
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: Moore used to play for UK, a linebacker for Kentucky
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: under Bill Curry. He played for the Patriots, and he
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: got a Super Bowl ring. Every Super Bowl, he brings
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: it out, and he wears it for the day. And
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: I think that's the coolest thing ever. I don't know
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: if I would wear it all the time, but I
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: would want to wear it. I would.
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: There would certainly probably be special occasions that I'd want
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: to break it out for.
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: Yeah. But, yeah, not on a day-to-day or even week-to-week basis. No,
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: not day-to-day or week-to-week. But, no, I think I'd wear
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: it to special occasions without a doubt. All right. Fun
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: show today. Appreciate everybody listening. Listen, we're going to talk
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: about more U.K. football tomorrow, get you started ready for
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: that game on Saturday. But you've got to wear blue.
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: Don't forget to wear blue. So we'll talk about that
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: more as well. Everybody have a great day. We'll see
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: you tomorrow on Just the Cats. We'll be right back.
