- 0:00Speaker 1: Almah chapter one. Now it came to pass that in
- 0:05Speaker 1: the first year of the reign of the judges over
- 0:07Speaker 1: the people of Nephi from this time forward, King Mosiah,
- 0:11Speaker 1: having gone the way of all the earth, having warred
- 0:13Speaker 1: a good warfare, walking uprightly before God, leaving none to
- 0:17Speaker 1: reign in his stead. Nevertheless, he had established laws, and
- 0:21Speaker 1: they were acknowledged by the people. Therefore, they were obliged
- 0:25Speaker 1: to abide by the laws which he had made. And
- 0:28Speaker 1: it came to pass that in the first year of
- 0:29Speaker 1: the reign of Almah and the judgment seat, there was
- 0:32Speaker 1: a man brought before him to be judged, a man
- 0:35Speaker 1: who was large and was noted for his much strength.
- 0:38Speaker 1: And he had gone about among the people, preaching to
- 0:41Speaker 1: them that which he termed to be the word of God,
- 0:43Speaker 1: bearing down against the church, declaring unto the people that
- 0:47Speaker 1: every priest and teacher ought to become popular, and they
- 0:51Speaker 1: ought not to labor with their hands, but they ought
- 0:53Speaker 1: to be supported by the people. And he also testified
- 0:57Speaker 1: unto the people that all mankind should be saved at
- 0:59Speaker 1: the last day, and that they need not fear nor tremble,
- 1:02Speaker 1: but that they might lift up their heads and rejoice,
- 1:05Speaker 1: for the Lord had created all men, and he had
- 1:08Speaker 1: also redeemed all men, and in the end all men
- 1:11Speaker 1: should have eternal life. And it came to pass that
- 1:14Speaker 1: he did teach these things so much that many did
- 1:17Speaker 1: believe on his words, even so many that they began
- 1:20Speaker 1: to support him and give him money. And he began
- 1:23Speaker 1: to be lifted up in the pride of his heart,
- 1:25Speaker 1: and to wear very costly apparel yea, and even begin
- 1:28Speaker 1: to establish a church after the manner of his preaching.
- 1:32Speaker 1: And it came to pass, as he was going to
- 1:34Speaker 1: preach those who believed on his word, he met a
- 1:36Speaker 1: man who belonged to the Church of God, yea, even
- 1:39Speaker 1: one of their teachers. And he began to contend with
- 1:42Speaker 1: him sharply that he might lead away the people of
- 1:44Speaker 1: the church. But the man withstood him, admonishing him with
- 1:48Speaker 1: the words of God. Now the name of the man
- 1:51Speaker 1: was Gideon, and it was he who was an instrument
- 1:53Speaker 1: in the hands of God and delivering the people of
- 1:55Speaker 1: Limhai out of bondage. Now, because Gideon withstood him with
- 1:58Speaker 1: the words of God, he was wroth with Gideon, and
- 2:01Speaker 1: drew his sword and began to smite him. Now Gideon,
- 2:05Speaker 1: being stricken with many years, therefore he was not able
- 2:08Speaker 1: to withstand his blows. Therefore he was slain by the sword.
- 2:12Speaker 1: And the man who slew him was taken by the
- 2:14Speaker 1: people of the church and was brought before Almah to
- 2:17Speaker 1: be judged according to the crimes which he had committed.
- 2:20Speaker 1: And it came to pass that he stood before Almah
- 2:22Speaker 1: and pleaded for himself with much boldness. But Almah said
- 2:25Speaker 1: unto him, behold, this is the first time that priestcraft
- 2:29Speaker 1: has been introduced among this people. And behold, thou art
- 2:32Speaker 1: not only guilty of priestcraft, but has endeavored to enforce
- 2:36Speaker 1: it by the sword. And were priest'scraft to be enforced
- 2:39Speaker 1: among this people, it would prove their entire destruction. And
- 2:43Speaker 1: thou hast shed blood of a righteous man, yea, a
- 2:46Speaker 1: man who has done much good among this people, and
- 2:49Speaker 1: were we to spare thee, his blood would come upon
- 2:51Speaker 1: us for vengeance. Therefore thou art condemned to die according
- 2:56Speaker 1: to the law which has been given us by Mosiah,
- 2:58Speaker 1: our last king, and it has been acknowledged by this people. Therefore,
- 3:03Speaker 1: this people must abide by the law. And it came
- 3:05Speaker 1: to pass that they took him, and his name was Nahor,
- 3:09Speaker 1: and they carried him upon the top of the hill Mantai,
- 3:11Speaker 1: and there he was caused, or rather did acknowledge, between
- 3:14Speaker 1: the heavens and the earth, that what he had taught
- 3:17Speaker 1: to the people was contrary to the word of God,
- 3:19Speaker 1: and there he suffered an ignominious death. Nevertheless, this did
- 3:23Speaker 1: not put an end to the spreading of priestcraft throughout
- 3:26Speaker 1: the land. For there are many who loved the vain
- 3:28Speaker 1: things of the world, and they went forth preaching false doctrines.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And this they did for the sake of riches and honor. Nevertheless,
- 3:37Speaker 1: they durst not lie, if it were known, for fear
- 3:40Speaker 1: of the law, for liars were punished. Therefore they pretended
- 3:44Speaker 1: to preach according to their belief. And now the law
- 3:46Speaker 1: could have no power on any man for his belief.
- 3:49Speaker 1: And they durst not steal for fear of the law,
- 3:52Speaker 1: for such were punished. Neither durst they rob nor murder,
- 3:55Speaker 1: for he that murdered was punished unto death. But it
- 3:58Speaker 1: came to pass that whoever did not belong to the
- 4:00Speaker 1: Church of God began to persecute those that did belong
- 4:03Speaker 1: to the Church of God, and had taken upon them
- 4:05Speaker 1: the name of Christ. Yea, they did persecute them and
- 4:08Speaker 1: afflict them with all manner of words. And this because
- 4:12Speaker 1: of their humility, because they were not proud in their
- 4:15Speaker 1: own eyes, and because they did impart the word of
- 4:17Speaker 1: God one with another, without money and without price.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Now there was a.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Strict law among the people of the Church that there
- 4:24Speaker 1: should not any man belong to the church arise and
- 4:27Speaker 1: persecute those that did not belong to the Church, and
- 4:30Speaker 1: that there should be no persecution amongst themselves. Nevertheless, there
- 4:35Speaker 1: were many among them who began to be proud and
- 4:37Speaker 1: began to contend warmly with their adversaries, even unto blows. Yea,
- 4:41Speaker 1: they would smite one another with their fists. Now, this
- 4:44Speaker 1: was in the second year of the reign of Alma,
- 4:46Speaker 1: and it was a cause of much affliction to the church. Yea,
- 4:49Speaker 1: it was the cause of much trial with the church.
- 4:52Speaker 1: For the hearts of many were hardened, and their names
- 4:55Speaker 1: were blotted out, that they were remembered no more among
- 4:58Speaker 1: the people of God, and also men, and He withdrew
- 5:00Speaker 1: themselves from among them. Now, this was a great trial
- 5:03Speaker 1: to those that did stand fast in the faith. Nevertheless,
- 5:07Speaker 1: they were steadfast and immovable in keeping the commandments of God,
- 5:11Speaker 1: and they bore with patience the persecution which was heaped
- 5:14Speaker 1: upon them. And when the priests left their labor to
- 5:17Speaker 1: impart the word of God unto the people, the people
- 5:20Speaker 1: also left their labors to hear the word of God.
- 5:23Speaker 1: And when the priest had imparted unto them the word
- 5:25Speaker 1: of God, they all returned again diligently unto their labors.
- 5:29Speaker 1: And the priest not esteeming himself above his hearers, for
- 5:32Speaker 1: the preacher was no better than the hearer. Neither was
- 5:35Speaker 1: a teacher any better than the learner. And that they
- 5:38Speaker 1: were all equal. And they did all labor, every man
- 5:41Speaker 1: according to his strength, and they did him part of
- 5:44Speaker 1: their substance, every man according to that which he had,
- 5:47Speaker 1: to the poor and the needy, and the sick and
- 5:50Speaker 1: the afflicted. And they did not wear costly apparel. Yet
- 5:53Speaker 1: they were neat and comely. And thus they did establish
- 5:56Speaker 1: the affairs of the Church. And thus they began to
- 5:59Speaker 1: have continual peace again, notwithstanding all their persecutions. And now
- 6:04Speaker 1: because of the steadiness of the Church, they began to
- 6:06Speaker 1: be exceedingly rich, having abundance of all things whatsoever they
- 6:10Speaker 1: stood in need and abundance of flocks and herds and
- 6:13Speaker 1: fatlings of every kind, and also an abundance of grain,
- 6:16Speaker 1: and of gold, and of silver and of precious things,
- 6:19Speaker 1: and abundance of silk and fine twined linen, and all
- 6:23Speaker 1: manner of good homely cloth. And thus, in their prosperous circumstances,
- 6:27Speaker 1: they did not send away any who were naked, or
- 6:30Speaker 1: that were hungry, or that were at thirst, or that
- 6:32Speaker 1: were sick, or that had not been nourished.
- 6:35Speaker 2: And they did not set their hearts upon riches.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Therefore they were liberal to all, both old and young,
- 6:42Speaker 1: both bond and free, both male and female, whether out
- 6:46Speaker 1: of the church or in the church, having no respect
- 6:49Speaker 1: to persons as to those who stood in need. And
- 6:53Speaker 1: thus they did prosper and become far more wealthy than
- 6:55Speaker 1: those who did not belong to their church. For those
- 6:58Speaker 1: who did not belong to them church did indulge themselves
- 7:01Speaker 1: in sorceries and in idolatry or idleness, and in babblings,
- 7:06Speaker 1: and in envyings and strife, wearing costly apparel, being lifted
- 7:11Speaker 1: up in the pride of their own eyes, persecuting, lying, thieving, robbing,
- 7:16Speaker 1: committing hortoms and murdering, and all manner of wickedness. Nevertheless,
- 7:21Speaker 1: the law was put in force upon all those who
- 7:24Speaker 1: did transgress it, inasmuch as it was possible. And it
- 7:27Speaker 1: came to pass that by thus exercising the law upon them,
- 7:31Speaker 1: every man suffering according to that which he had done,
- 7:34Speaker 1: they became more still and durst not commit any wickedness,
- 7:37Speaker 1: if it were known. Therefore, there was much peace among
- 7:41Speaker 1: the people of Nephi until the fifth year of the
- 7:43Speaker 1: reign of the judges end of chapter one, chapter two.
- 7:48Speaker 2: And it came to.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Pass in the commencement of the fifth year of their
- 7:52Speaker 1: reign there began to be a contention among the people
- 7:55Speaker 1: for a certain man being called Amlesi, he being a
- 7:59Speaker 1: very a cunning man, yea a wise man as to
- 8:02Speaker 1: the wisdom of the world, he being after the order
- 8:05Speaker 1: of the man that slew Gideon by the sword, who
- 8:08Speaker 1: was executed according to the law. Now, this Amelesi had
- 8:12Speaker 1: by his cunning drawn away much people after him, even
- 8:15Speaker 1: so much that they began to be very powerful, and
- 8:18Speaker 1: they began to endeavor to establish Amlesi to be king
- 8:21Speaker 1: over the people. Now this was alarming to the people
- 8:24Speaker 1: of the Church and also to all those who had
- 8:26Speaker 1: not been drawn away after the persuasions of Amlesi. For
- 8:30Speaker 1: they knew that, according to their law, that such things
- 8:33Speaker 1: must be established by the voice of the people. Therefore,
- 8:36Speaker 1: if it were possible that Amelessi should gain the voice
- 8:39Speaker 1: of the people, he, being a wicked man, would deprive
- 8:43Speaker 1: them of their rights and privileges of the Church, for
- 8:45Speaker 1: it was his intent to destroy the Church of God.
- 8:49Speaker 1: And it came to pass that the people assembled themselves
- 8:51Speaker 1: together throughout all the land, every man, according to his mind,
- 8:56Speaker 1: whether or fore or against Amlethi, in separate body, having
- 9:01Speaker 1: much dispute and wonderful contentions, one with another. And thus
- 9:05Speaker 1: they did assemble themselves together to cast their voices concerning
- 9:08Speaker 1: the matter. And they were laid before the judges. And
- 9:12Speaker 1: it came to pass that the voice of the people
- 9:14Speaker 1: came against Amlesi, that he was not made king over
- 9:17Speaker 1: the people. Now this did cause much joy in the
- 9:20Speaker 1: hearts of those who were against him. But Amlesi did
- 9:24Speaker 1: stir up those who were in his favor to anger
- 9:26Speaker 1: against those who were not in his favor. And it
- 9:28Speaker 1: came to pass that they gathered themselves together and did
- 9:31Speaker 1: consecrate Amlesi to be their king. Now, when Amelesi was
- 9:35Speaker 1: made king over them, he commanded them that they should
- 9:38Speaker 1: take up arms against their brethren, And this he did
- 9:41Speaker 1: that he might subject them to him. Now the people
- 9:44Speaker 1: of Amlessi were distinguished by the name of Amelesi, being
- 9:47Speaker 1: called Amlesites, and the remainder were called Nephytes, or the
- 9:51Speaker 1: people of God. Therefore, the people of the Nephites were
- 9:55Speaker 1: aware of the intent of the Amlesites, and therefore they
- 9:58Speaker 1: did prepare to meet them. Yea, they did arm themselves
- 10:02Speaker 1: with swords and with scimeters, and with bows, and with arrows,
- 10:05Speaker 1: and with stones, and with slings, and with all manner
- 10:08Speaker 1: of weapons of war of every kind. And thus they
- 10:11Speaker 1: were prepared to meet the Amlysites at the time of
- 10:14Speaker 1: their coming. And there were appointed captains and higher captains
- 10:17Speaker 1: and chief captains according to their numbers. And it came
- 10:20Speaker 1: to pass that Amlesaid did arm his men with all
- 10:23Speaker 1: manner of weapons of war of every kind. And he
- 10:25Speaker 1: also appointed rulers and leaders over his people to lead
- 10:29Speaker 1: them to war against their brethren. And it came to
- 10:31Speaker 1: pass that the Ammelysites came upon the hill m Naihu,
- 10:34Speaker 1: which was east of the river Sidon which ran by
- 10:37Speaker 1: the land of Zarahemla, and there they began to make
- 10:39Speaker 1: war with the Nephytes.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Now Alma being the chief.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Judge and the governor of the people of Nephi, Therefore
- 10:45Speaker 1: he went up with his people Yea, with his captains
- 10:48Speaker 1: and chief captains, Yea at the head of his armies
- 10:50Speaker 1: against the Amlysites to battle. And they began to slay
- 10:53Speaker 1: the Amlysites upon the hill east of Sidon, And the
- 10:57Speaker 1: Amlysites did contend with the Nephites with great strength, insomuch
- 11:01Speaker 1: that many of the Nephytes did fall before the Amlysites. Nevertheless,
- 11:05Speaker 1: the lord did strengthen the hand of the Nephytes, that
- 11:08Speaker 1: they slew the Amlysites with great slaughter, that they began
- 11:11Speaker 1: to flee before them. And it came to pass that
- 11:14Speaker 1: the Nephytes did pursue the Amlysites all that day and
- 11:17Speaker 1: did slay them with much slaughter, insomuch that there were
- 11:20Speaker 1: slain of the Amlysites twelve thousand, five hundred sixty and
- 11:24Speaker 1: two souls, and there were slain of the Nephytes six thousand,
- 11:28Speaker 1: five hundred sixty and two souls. And it came to
- 11:31Speaker 1: pass that when Alma could pursue the Amlysites no longer,
- 11:34Speaker 1: he caused that his people should pitch their tints in
- 11:36Speaker 1: the valley of Gideon, the valley being called after that Gideon,
- 11:40Speaker 1: who was slain by the hand of Nehor with the sword.
- 11:43Speaker 1: And in this valley the Nephytes did pitch their tents
- 11:46Speaker 1: for the knight. And Alma sent spies to follow the
- 11:48Speaker 1: remnant of the Amlysites, that he might know of their
- 11:51Speaker 1: plans and their plots, whereby he might guard himself against them,
- 11:55Speaker 1: that he might preserve his people from being destroyed. Now,
- 11:58Speaker 1: those whom he had sent out to watch camp of
- 12:00Speaker 1: the Amlysites were called Zuram, and Amnor, and Mantai and Limhir.
- 12:05Speaker 1: These were they who went out with their men to
- 12:08Speaker 1: watch the camp of the Amelesites. And it came to
- 12:10Speaker 1: pass that on the morrow they were turned into the
- 12:13Speaker 1: camp of the Nephites in great haste, being greatly astonished
- 12:16Speaker 1: and struck with much fear, saying, behold, we followed the
- 12:19Speaker 1: camp of the Ammelysites, and to our great astonishment in
- 12:23Speaker 1: the land of Manon above the land of Zaraheimla, in
- 12:26Speaker 1: the course of the land of Nephi, we saw a
- 12:28Speaker 1: numerous hosts of the Lamanites, and behold, the Amlesites have
- 12:32Speaker 1: joined them, and they are upon our brethren in that land.
- 12:36Speaker 1: And they are fleeing before them with their flocks and
- 12:39Speaker 1: their wives and their children towards our city, and etcetera.
- 12:42Speaker 1: To make haste they obtained possession of our city, and
- 12:45Speaker 1: our fathers, and our wives and our children be slain.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And it came to pass that the people of Nephi
- 12:51Speaker 1: took their tents and departed out of the Valley of
- 12:54Speaker 1: Gideon towards their city, which was the city of Zaraheimla.
- 12:57Speaker 1: And behold, as they were crossing the river p Sidon,
- 13:00Speaker 1: the Lamanites and the Amlesites, being as numerous almost as
- 13:04Speaker 1: it were as the sands of the sea, came upon
- 13:07Speaker 1: them to destroy them. Nevertheless, the Nephites, being strengthened by
- 13:12Speaker 1: the hand of the Lord, having prayed mightily to him
- 13:15Speaker 1: that he would deliver them out of the hands of
- 13:16Speaker 1: their enemies. Therefore the Lord did hear their cries and
- 13:19Speaker 1: did strengthen them, and the Lamanites and the Amlesites did
- 13:23Speaker 1: fall before them. And it came to pass that Almah
- 13:26Speaker 1: fought was Amlesi with the sword face to faith, and
- 13:30Speaker 1: they did contend mightily one with another. And it came
- 13:33Speaker 1: to pass that Almah, being a man of God, being
- 13:36Speaker 1: exercised with much faith, cried saying, O, Lord, have mercy
- 13:41Speaker 1: and spare my life, that I may be an instrument
- 13:43Speaker 1: in thy hands to save and preserve this people.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Now, when Almah had said these.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Words, he contended again with Amlessi, and he was strengthened
- 13:51Speaker 1: insomuch that he slew Amlesi with the sword. And he
- 13:55Speaker 1: also contended with the King of the Lamanites. But the
- 13:57Speaker 1: King of the Lamanites fled back from before Almah and
- 14:00Speaker 1: sent his guards to contend with Alma. But Alma, with
- 14:03Speaker 1: his guards, contended with the guards of the King of
- 14:06Speaker 1: the Lamanites until he slew and drove them back. And
- 14:10Speaker 1: thus he cleared the ground, or rather the bank, which
- 14:13Speaker 1: was on the west of the river Sidon, throwing the
- 14:16Speaker 1: bodies of the Lamanites who had been slain into the
- 14:18Speaker 1: waters of the Seidon, that thereby his people might have
- 14:21Speaker 1: room to cross and contend with the Lamanites and the
- 14:23Speaker 1: Amlysites on the west side of the river Sidon. And
- 14:26Speaker 1: it came to pass that when they had crossed the
- 14:28Speaker 1: river Seiden, that the Lamanites and the Amlysites began to
- 14:31Speaker 1: flee before them, notwithstanding they were so numerous that they
- 14:34Speaker 1: could not be numbered. And they fled before the Nephites
- 14:38Speaker 1: towards the wilderness which was west and north away beyond
- 14:41Speaker 1: the borders of the land. And the Nephites did pursue
- 14:44Speaker 1: them with their might and did slay them. Yea, they
- 14:47Speaker 1: were met on every hand and slain and driven until
- 14:50Speaker 1: they were scattered on the west and on the north,
- 14:52Speaker 1: until they had reached the wilderness which was called Harmounts.
- 14:55Speaker 1: And it was that part of the wilderness which was
- 14:57Speaker 1: infested by wild and ravenous beasts. And it came to
- 15:01Speaker 1: pass that many died in the wilderness of their wounds
- 15:03Speaker 1: and were devoured by those beasts, and also the vultures
- 15:06Speaker 1: of the air, and their bones have been found and
- 15:09Speaker 1: have been heaped upon the earth. End of chapter two,
- 15:14Speaker 1: Chapter three. And it came to pass that the Nephites
- 15:17Speaker 1: who were not slain by the weapons of war, after
- 15:20Speaker 1: having buried those who had been slain. Now the number
- 15:23Speaker 1: of the slain were not numbered, because of the greatness
- 15:25Speaker 1: of their number. After they had finished burying their dead,
- 15:28Speaker 1: they all returned to their lands and to their houses,
- 15:31Speaker 1: and their wives and their children. Now many women and
- 15:34Speaker 1: children had been slain with the sword, and also many
- 15:37Speaker 1: of their flocks and their herds, and also many of
- 15:39Speaker 1: their fields of grain were destroyed, for they were trodden
- 15:42Speaker 1: down by the hosts of men. And Now as many
- 15:45Speaker 1: of the Lamanites and the Amlysites, who had been slain
- 15:48Speaker 1: upon the bank of the river Sidon, were cast into
- 15:50Speaker 1: the waters of Sidon. And behold, their bones are in
- 15:53Speaker 1: the depths of the sea, and they are many. And
- 15:56Speaker 1: the Ammelesites were distinguished from the Nephytes, for they had
- 15:59Speaker 1: marked themselves with red in their foreheads, after the manner
- 16:01Speaker 1: of the Lamanites. Nevertheless, they had not shorn their heads
- 16:05Speaker 1: like unto the Lamanites. Now the heads of the Lamanites
- 16:08Speaker 1: were shorn, and they were naked, save it were the
- 16:11Speaker 1: skin which was girded about their loins, and also their
- 16:14Speaker 1: armor which was girded about them, and their bows and
- 16:16Speaker 1: their arrows, and their stones, and their slings and so forth.
- 16:20Speaker 1: And the skins of the Lamanites were dark according to
- 16:22Speaker 1: the mark which was set upon their fathers, which was
- 16:25Speaker 1: accursed upon them because of their transgression and their rebellion
- 16:28Speaker 1: against their brethren, who consisted of Nephi, Jacob and Joseph
- 16:32Speaker 1: and Sam, who were just and holy men, and their
- 16:35Speaker 1: brethren sought to destroy them. Therefore they were cursed, and
- 16:39Speaker 1: the Lord God set a mark upon them, yea upon
- 16:42Speaker 1: Laymen and Lemuel, and also the sons of Ishmael and
- 16:45Speaker 1: the Ishmaelitish women. And this was done that their seed
- 16:49Speaker 1: might be distinguished from the seed of their brethren, that
- 16:51Speaker 1: thereby the Lord God might preserve his people, that they
- 16:55Speaker 1: might not mix and believe in the incorrect traditions which
- 16:57Speaker 1: would prove their destruction. And it came to pass that
- 17:01Speaker 1: whosoever did mingle his seed with that of the Lamanites,
- 17:04Speaker 1: did bring the same curse upon his seed. Therefore, whosoever
- 17:09Speaker 1: suffered himself to be led away with the Lamanites was
- 17:12Speaker 1: called under that head, and there was a mark set
- 17:14Speaker 1: upon him. And it came to pass that whosoever would
- 17:17Speaker 1: not believe in the tradition of the Lamanites, but believe
- 17:20Speaker 1: those records which were brought out of the.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Land of Jerusalem, and also in the tradition of their.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Fathers, which were correct, who believed in the commandments of
- 17:27Speaker 1: God and kept them were called Nephites or the people
- 17:30Speaker 1: of Nephi from that time forth. And it is they
- 17:34Speaker 1: who have kept the records which are true of their people,
- 17:36Speaker 1: and also of the Lamanites. Now we will return again
- 17:39Speaker 1: to the Amlysites. For they also had a mark set
- 17:42Speaker 1: upon them. Yea, they set the mark upon themselves. Yea,
- 17:45Speaker 1: even a mark of red upon their forehead. Thus the
- 17:48Speaker 1: word of God is fulfilled. Were these are the words
- 17:51Speaker 1: which he said to Nephi. Behold, the Lamanites have I cursed,
- 17:55Speaker 1: And I will set a mark on them, that they
- 17:57Speaker 1: and their seed may be separated from THEE and Thy
- 17:59Speaker 1: Seed from this time henceforth and forever, except they repent
- 18:03Speaker 1: of their wickedness and turn to me, that I may
- 18:05Speaker 1: have mercy upon them. And again I will set a
- 18:08Speaker 1: mark upon him that mingles his seed with thy brethren,
- 18:11Speaker 1: that they may be cursed also. And again I will
- 18:15Speaker 1: set a mark upon him that fightest against THEE and
- 18:17Speaker 1: thy Seed. And again I say that he that departed
- 18:21Speaker 1: from THEE shall no more be called thy seed. And
- 18:23Speaker 1: I will bless THEE and whomsoever shall be called thy
- 18:26Speaker 1: seed henceforth and forever. And these were the promises of
- 18:30Speaker 1: the Lord unto Nephi and to his seed. Now the
- 18:33Speaker 1: Amocytes knew not that they were fulfilling the words of
- 18:36Speaker 1: God when they began to mark themselves and their foreheads. Nevertheless,
- 18:40Speaker 1: they had come out in open rebellion against God. Therefore
- 18:43Speaker 1: it was expedient that the curse should fall upon them.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Now I would that ye should see that they brought
- 18:49Speaker 1: upon themselves the curse. And even so doth every man
- 18:53Speaker 1: that is cursed bring upon himself his own condemnation. Now
- 18:57Speaker 1: it came to pass that not many days after the
- 18:59Speaker 1: battle which was fought in the land of Zaraheimla by
- 19:02Speaker 1: the Lamanites and the Amlesites, that there was another army
- 19:06Speaker 1: of the Lamanites came in upon the people of Nephi
- 19:09Speaker 1: in the same place where the first army met the Ammelysites.
- 19:12Speaker 1: And it came to pass that there was an army
- 19:14Speaker 1: sent to drive them out of their land. Now, Amah himself,
- 19:17Speaker 1: being afflicted with the wound, did not go up to
- 19:19Speaker 1: battle at this time against the Lamanites, but he sent
- 19:22Speaker 1: up a numerous army against them, and they went up
- 19:25Speaker 1: and slew many of the Lamanites, and drove the remainder
- 19:28Speaker 1: of them out.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Of the borders of their land.
- 19:31Speaker 1: And then they returned again and began to establish peace
- 19:34Speaker 1: in the land, being troubled no more for a time
- 19:36Speaker 1: with their enemies. Now all these things were done. Yea,
- 19:40Speaker 1: all these wars and contentions were commenced and ended in
- 19:43Speaker 1: the fifth year of the reign of the Judges.
- 19:46Speaker 2: And in one year they.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Were thousands and tens of thousands of souls sent to
- 19:50Speaker 1: the eternal world, that they might reap their rewards according
- 19:53Speaker 1: to their works, whether they were good or whether they
- 19:55Speaker 1: were bad, to reap paternal happiness or eternal misery, according
- 19:59Speaker 1: to the spirit which they listed to obey, whether it
- 20:02Speaker 1: be a good spirit or a bad one. For every
- 20:05Speaker 1: man receiveth wages of him whom he listeth to obey.
- 20:09Speaker 1: And this according to the words of the Spirit of Prophecy.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Therefore let it be according to the truth. And thus
- 20:15Speaker 1: endeth the fifth year of the reign of the Judges.
- 20:18Speaker 1: End of Alma, Chapters one through three.
