- 0:00Welcome back to the podcast miniseries Wow to Old School,
- 0:03where I'm interviewing Wow streamers that tried Old School
- 0:06Runescape, finding out what they liked, what they disliked, what
- 0:09they think of Wow now, what they think of Old School now, just
- 0:12talking about stuff. We've got quite the episode
- 0:15today, one of the most wholesome streamers you can come across on
- 0:18Twitch. He just so happened to be the
- 0:19very first Wow streamer to take that leap and try Old School
- 0:23Runescape. Streaming Old School and posting
- 0:25a hardcore series to YouTube. This streamer unintentionally
- 0:28caused a lot of other people to do exactly what he did.
- 0:31He's gone in hardcore. Iron Man, well, you know, was
- 0:36guideless. Completely guideless.
- 0:38He's known for falling down a hole somewhere in World of
- 0:40Warcraft and solving old school puzzles like it's national
- 0:45treasure. Enjoy this discussion with
- 0:47Goozu. Goozu.
- 0:59Yes. How long have you been playing
- 1:02World of Warcraft? Oh.
- 1:04God, I don't even know. I don't know.
- 1:06Listen, I play, I started playing back in 2005, so that is
- 1:12a long time ago. I've had a little bit of a
- 1:14break, you know, between some years.
- 1:17But I, I, I, I have a solid, I would say like 16-17 years under
- 1:24my belt probably. Wow, it's it's so interesting
- 1:27everyone has said so far, like I've noticed with Wow players,
- 1:32anyone who started like 2000 and five 2006, they've all basically
- 1:37taken a break at some point during some expansion, but it's
- 1:41like spread out like you never know when their break came.
- 1:43It could have been like during Wrath or not until like Legion
- 1:47or something like it's all over the place.
- 1:50Whereas Runescape players it's always like, oh, when did you
- 1:53take a break? 2012 EOC When that happened,
- 1:56that's when I was gone. Everyone like left during that
- 1:59I. Was not there anymore.
- 2:00I mean, that's like the big breaking point in the game,
- 2:02right? I think it's because the the
- 2:05Runescape evolutionary combat was a very defining, OK, this is
- 2:09now different, very different. But with Wow, it was very
- 2:11gradual. Slowly, it became like a
- 2:14different game, right? Yeah, it it definitely was a
- 2:17slow burn of a change. So with your time on Wow, just
- 2:23having played so long, what kind of play style would you describe
- 2:27yourself as? Like I know in Only Fangs it was
- 2:29essentially you're either new or a sweat, no in between.
- 2:33But when it comes down to it, like, how would you describe
- 2:36yourself as a Wow player? I mean, for me, I'm, I'm very
- 2:40heavily a classic Wow player, like vanilla Wow, That that's I
- 2:44guess my jam. That's what I really love,
- 2:45right. So I never really got into like
- 2:47the whole arena or mythic US pushing and stuff like that.
- 2:51I was more so I love the old school MMOI love, you know, the
- 2:55world PvP aspect, the rating and that stuff.
- 2:57So I played on a classic Wow. I played rogue and warrior for
- 3:01the most part, mostly rogue to begin with.
- 3:02And I did a lot of world PvP and I really loved rating and like
- 3:05parsing and raids and stuff. So mainly that.
- 3:08But you know, just the classic, basically just vanilla, right?
- 3:13Gotcha. It's like, did you ever find
- 3:14yourself taking it more seriously than you thought you
- 3:18would? Like, streamer aside, like as a
- 3:20player, did you ever like kind of log in with a serious face?
- 3:24Like, I'm going to get this done today, you know, like for a
- 3:26period of time. I mean, I don't know, I always
- 3:30played quite a lot, but I mean, when I got back into playing
- 3:33Classic Wow again, which is when I really started having a big
- 3:35burst of of gameplay again in it is it was back in 2018, I think,
- 3:41but there was a private server at that point called Nostalgias
- 3:44that I ended up getting coversed into playing in the beginning.
- 3:46I was like, I'll, I'll just play casually, you know, once in a
- 3:49while and then you get, you know, you know how it goes with
- 3:52Mmos, you just start losing your whole life into it, right.
- 3:55But I don't know, I, I feel like back when I did like the, when I
- 3:59first got into Classic Wow again, like in 2018-2019, I, I
- 4:02really played a lot. It was even before I was
- 4:05streaming it. It was like my whole life
- 4:07outside work and and school and stuff.
- 4:10Yeah. It's like 2019 when when Classic
- 4:13came out. Is that kind of when you'd
- 4:15pretty much just total Focus Classic, not looking back, no,
- 4:20no retail sort of thing? It was a bit before that it was
- 4:23about Nostalius. I don't remember.
- 4:24Nostalius was actually in 2016. I think it.
- 4:27Gotcha. Yeah.
- 4:30So I started quite a bit before Classic was actually even
- 4:32announced. I was like, you know, hopping
- 4:34from private server to private server kind of deal, kind of a
- 4:37deal. But it was a bit more niche
- 4:39because it was, there wasn't really anything official, but
- 4:42it's back when it was announced. That's when I went crazy with
- 4:46it. Yeah, yeah, I've noticed a lot
- 4:48of players were in that private server era, like in Runescape,
- 4:54it was the same thing around the EOC time.
- 4:55Like that's why they had finally gotten the courage to like pull
- 5:01Old School Runescape because there were so many private
- 5:03servers basically hosting Old School Runescape already that
- 5:07were making money and stuff. So I guess it's like the same
- 5:10situation and Wow. So it's really interesting that
- 5:13everybody like there seems to be so many players like Wow players
- 5:17that did try private servers are become a part of like a private
- 5:21server community. So that's super interesting just
- 5:23how prevalent it was. But with that stuff in mind,
- 5:28looking at just the landscape of World of Warcraft right now,
- 5:32because you know, there's classic anniversary, there's
- 5:34just regular classic, there's hardcore classic, there's these
- 5:39season of discovery servers, there's just like there's Legion
- 5:43remix, there's Mop classic. Like there's so much going on
- 5:46over there. So like since you've been over
- 5:48here a little bit at at the in the old school world and you
- 5:51kind of just take a glance back at the World of Warcraft, just
- 5:55environment the community right now.
- 5:57What are what are your like thoughts on it collectively?
- 6:00Like when you just glance over there and and see it in its
- 6:03current state. I mean, I'm obviously coming
- 6:06from a very like classic based view or like I, I love vanilla
- 6:09and like that thing. I can it's, it's look, it looks
- 6:12messy and I feel like it's, it's, I would love for there to
- 6:15be more communication and like, more like, you know, what's
- 6:18going on? Because for me it feels like a
- 6:20little bit like Wow. I guess Wow has always been
- 6:22seasonal, but it became more like, oh, now we have classic
- 6:25Sod sees the mastery, sees the discovery hardcore.
- 6:29Now we have Mr. Pandaria. Where's that going?
- 6:31Nobody knows. Where's sees the discovery
- 6:32going? Well, we don't know.
- 6:33Maybe there's an update, maybe, maybe not.
- 6:35Maybe your character's gone and it, it feels a bit like you're
- 6:38left in like the unknown, which is really strange.
- 6:41And going over to Runescape, something I've really noticed
- 6:44that is that there's a lot of communication and you really
- 6:47know what's happening and it feels like the game you're
- 6:50playing is like it. It matters a lot more because
- 6:53it's a singular game, right? Whereas Classic is very
- 6:56scattered and you don't really know where the focus is anymore.
- 6:59Right, when I talked to Annie about this, she gave an
- 7:02interesting perspective of like, if you are a Wow player that
- 7:06plays all the versions, it almost feels like you kind of
- 7:09have like a backup of work to do and you're trying to like bounce
- 7:14between the things to catch up and keep up just because of how
- 7:17many things are going on constantly over there and really
- 7:21kind of unpredictably going on over there, like you just never
- 7:23know. So it's kind of tough to balance
- 7:27it all or choose your main game sort of thing.
- 7:29And. In in a way, it feels like, it
- 7:30feels like what Blizzard kind of wants is that they want people
- 7:32to play all the versions. So like, you're not playing, I'm
- 7:35not playing Wow, I'm playing every version of Wow, right?
- 7:38And I have like 4 different characters.
- 7:40So a really interesting thing that they did actually back in a
- 7:45few years, a few months ago with Seasonal Discovery, they did
- 7:47their final raid, the Scarlet Enclave, and there's a boss
- 7:50called Balnasar in that raid. And then they came out with a
- 7:54Mr. Pandaria. And then they did like a little,
- 7:57I guess, event where if you went into the season of Discovery and
- 8:01you killed Balasore, you got a free Mr. Pandaria boost.
- 8:04Weird. So that they're trying to
- 8:06coercing people to go from Sod to MOB, right?
- 8:09And then now we don't know where MOB is going.
- 8:11And Sod is kind of like in the in the Loll as well.
- 8:13So you're copying from all these versions of the games, but you
- 8:16don't really know where the main focus really is anymore, I feel
- 8:19like. Yeah.
- 8:20And now that you mention that, I do remember when they first did,
- 8:24I think it was, it was Mop Remix, I'm pretty sure.
- 8:27And there was like the incentive for used to go try it because
- 8:30they would get cosmetics in retail or something like that.
- 8:33So it's like, which I guess is a similar system to what old
- 8:36school has with leagues where is like you go participate in this
- 8:39temporary game mode and then you can get rewards on your main
- 8:42account sort of thing. So I guess that makes sense.
- 8:44But there just seems to be so much of that bouncing around to
- 8:48like the incentives and all that.
- 8:50So I don't know that's it's very complicated feels like.
- 8:56It's it's also a bit of FOMO as well because a lot of the game
- 8:59modes that whenever you do them. It's you can.
- 9:01Catch up on so many stuff that there's so many unique rewards
- 9:03that you can only get during this game mode.
- 9:05I remember when they did Plunderstorm, which was like a
- 9:08battle Royale style wild game that they did for like a period
- 9:11of time. You could gain 50 levels in that
- 9:13game mode, if I recall correctly and there was unique rewards
- 9:16tied to that event that you can only get at that point, right?
- 9:20And then whenever the event is over, it's gone.
- 9:22So people were like really annoyed that they had to play
- 9:25this game mode to get their rewards in in current college.
- 9:28Yeah, I guess they they combat that in old school by making the
- 9:33the rewards tradable. So people are like doing it just
- 9:36to go sell it in the main game and then if you weren't there.
- 9:39You could just buy it on the. GE or something That's that's
- 9:42fair. Yeah, it's, I didn't realize
- 9:44that really like why they did that.
- 9:46I guess it's the fight the FOMO thing because FOMO is not very
- 9:49liked by old school community. That I've noticed.
- 9:53Definitely, yeah. Just thinking about all of the
- 9:56different Wows, there's obviously the discussion of, you
- 10:00know, classic Plus. And I know you've kind of doved
- 10:02into classic plus discussions a lot and kind of chimed in on a
- 10:07lot of different other creators talking about it.
- 10:10So when you envision classic plus, what exactly do you see?
- 10:16Because it's, it's like when I think about classic wow or just
- 10:20Wow format in general, this very like vertical progression of
- 10:25journeying to Max level and then grinding for Priebus and then
- 10:29grinding for Bis until the next thing comes out where you grind
- 10:33again for Bis and like keep, keep that cycle going.
- 10:37So in in like the situation of a classic plus like this thing
- 10:40that everyone's kind of, you know, seeking after, what do you
- 10:45envision that being that kind of separates it from all these
- 10:48other game modes and different versions of Wow that we've had
- 10:50so far? So I, I, I guess the biggest,
- 10:55the, the thing with World of Warcraft is that it's strongest
- 10:58suit and what's made it such a big MMO has been that vertical
- 11:02progression. We're like, oh, we have vanilla
- 11:04Wow. And then now there's a new raid.
- 11:06And then that raid kind of, you know, is a lot more powerful
- 11:08than the previous raid. And then there's a new power.
- 11:10And then now we have the burning Crusade with Ilidan.
- 11:12And then now we have with, you know, they have all these big
- 11:16characters and all these big moments that like progresses the
- 11:19game. But at this point now it's
- 11:21become a little bit of the Achilles heel, I guess of the
- 11:24the game. Because a lot of people are
- 11:26searching for a little bit more of an Evergreen experience with
- 11:28an MMO where they can invest their time in like a more of a
- 11:32horizontal versus vertical way. But when it comes to classic
- 11:35Wow, to circle back to classic plus, I think there's a lot of
- 11:39ways that they can expand upon the game in in a way where you
- 11:44stay true to what the game was or is, I suppose without having
- 11:48the power creep go crazy. I don't know how they would do
- 11:51it in terms of gearing and progression, maybe cosmetics or
- 11:54challenges or certain different unique items that will be
- 11:58utilised in certain different scenarios.
- 12:00But I, I think just expanding upon the current worlds in a way
- 12:06that would make sense for, for what it is, right?
- 12:09Stay true to a classic RPG. Don't make it too modern is what
- 12:14I'm trying to get at right. Also, I'm rambling a little bit
- 12:17here, but it's also a big thing for me to for them to work on
- 12:24zones and like different new areas and like but stones that
- 12:29would make sense because we we've had talks about I had to
- 12:32talk today about with my stream about a potential BG because
- 12:35there was a scrapped BG called Ashara with the Ashara
- 12:39battleground. There was supposed to be one
- 12:41there and that's something that they never really got to do.
- 12:43There's also the whole Kerosan thing and there's stuff in
- 12:46Uldum. There's a lot of zones within
- 12:48the game that essentially have an entrance to a new area, which
- 12:51was then explored later in the expansions, but we never really
- 12:54got to see in vanilla right. So they can do it like such, but
- 12:57how would they do it with the wild format?
- 12:59I don't know because that would go a kind of against the wild
- 13:02format with the new content and new rains, right?
- 13:06Do you think that they would benefit in trying to experiment
- 13:09with things like that? Would introduce more like
- 13:11horizontal progression, like basically making all professions
- 13:15available to everybody. Like you don't have to just
- 13:17choose three or whatever. Like stuff like that.
- 13:19Would you think would help at all?
- 13:22It's a slippery slope and it's very difficult because when you
- 13:24start changing a lot of the core fundamentals of what classic
- 13:26like vanilla Wow is it, it becomes a whole different game
- 13:29altogether, right? But I think it's about maybe
- 13:33taking what really works in the game at its base state, like the
- 13:37not no changes, but like the base of what anniversary is, for
- 13:41instance, right now in in vanilla Wow classic.
- 13:43And expanding upon that, maybe there could be some sort of a
- 13:47thing where you could enhance the professions in some way or,
- 13:50you know, make people able to use more professions or make
- 13:52them more worthwhile or stuff like that.
- 13:55Right. I, I think there's a lot of of
- 13:58great things that that OSRS has done that Wow could kind of take
- 14:03a note from, but obviously not copy because it's just different
- 14:06Mmos and a lot of things that work in Runescape won't work in
- 14:09Wow. Right.
- 14:11Do you have any like examples that you've thought of over the
- 14:14past few months that like, wow, I I hope that World of Warcraft
- 14:17looks at this and implements some kind of version of it.
- 14:20That's a difficult thing, but I, I, I think my main thing that I
- 14:24really love about old school is the fact that there's a lot of
- 14:27solo content that you can do. Cuz yeah, maybe it is.
- 14:30Maybe I'm antisocial OK, but I love in my MMO that I can do my
- 14:35own thing if I want to. 100%, you know.
- 14:38Yeah, I love yeah. So I would love to see more like
- 14:42challenges or like it, it could be like a, we have something, we
- 14:45have something involved in Legion called Mage Tower, which
- 14:48was like a solo challenge that could get harder and harder with
- 14:51no real like gear upgrades, but it was like cosmetics and like
- 14:55some cool shit, stuff like that. So like challenges and like some
- 14:59solo dungeon or solo things like that that you could do.
- 15:02I think would be really interesting if they could make
- 15:04it work in that way. Have you ever just like a side
- 15:09note on this? Because this is definitely
- 15:10related. Have you ever tried Star Wars?
- 15:13The Old Republic? The MMO?
- 15:16Oh. I very briefly, not very I have
- 15:18like 10 hours maybe in it. OK, I, I had like a super big
- 15:22phase of playing that game and you know that they definitely
- 15:25were heavily inspired from World of Warcraft, like in their, you
- 15:29know, the, the structure of combat and progression and all
- 15:33that. And the thing that they did to
- 15:36actually create solo content is make it so that you have
- 15:40companions that like follow you around and they can be a healer.
- 15:43Like you can assign them a role to play and you could like level
- 15:47them up and they follow you around.
- 15:48It's just an NPC that follows you around and like heals you
- 15:51and stuff. So essentially if it's you can
- 15:53get to Max level just single player because you have a healer
- 15:57with you kind of thing. Would you think like a system
- 16:00like that would potentially work?
- 16:01Like something that would allow you to go do content that
- 16:05already exists that wouldn't really be accessible as a solo
- 16:09player with a system like that. I I don't know how well that
- 16:15would be received. I know that's something that the
- 16:18World of Warcraft has done in Dragonfly with something called
- 16:22dill. So I don't know if you know
- 16:23about that. I don't.
- 16:24Think so. Delves is essentially like a
- 16:27solo dungeon with a with levels that you can go deeper and
- 16:29deeper. And then you have anpc called
- 16:31brand brand bronze beard that you can assign to be a healer or
- 16:35ADPS and you can essentially have a follower.
- 16:37Yeah. So they have actually done this
- 16:39in, in, in, in current retail while, but I'm not sure how well
- 16:43that would be received in, in the classic.
- 16:46Yeah, that's just, that's an interesting thing that was that
- 16:48was just the one thing I could think of for the current style.
- 16:51But yeah, yeah. So hopefully they they do if
- 16:54they, since I guess there are whispers of them, you know,
- 16:58having some sort of classic plus project, who knows how true it
- 17:01is, but hopefully they do kind of experiment with more of, you
- 17:06know, that single player MMO. But you're not alone sort of
- 17:10thing that that the vibe that old school kind of has because I
- 17:12think that's very sought after with the the current age of MMO.
- 17:17Players, yeah, yeah, I think people really like that.
- 17:21I think they've done a lot of great things as well with
- 17:23seasonal discovery, because IA lot of people say that that's
- 17:25that was like the testing ground for for classic plus it could be
- 17:29cobium, but they did a lot of cool things that there's on the
- 17:33topic that we're talking about right now.
- 17:35There was a challenge that you could do as a warrior in
- 17:39syllabus where you would go on this big tower essentially and
- 17:43then you would fight some boss with like some very rough like
- 17:46one shot mechanics. And there was no like in centric
- 17:49like there was, there's no like gear upgrade that was like
- 17:51insane. But you could get some cool
- 17:52sunglasses if you got to level 100 or something, which I
- 17:55thought was pretty cool. Don't like stuff?
- 17:57Like that, that works, but I guess to to transition a little
- 18:00bit into Yeah, that'd be interesting.
- 18:02The main topic at hand, I've been asking everybody this and I
- 18:07have a little more insight on your reason, which I'm happy
- 18:10about. But talking about the initial
- 18:15reason that you tried out Old School Runescape, because you
- 18:21were probably the first Wow streamer to really start this
- 18:26movement. But just tell me about your
- 18:29thought process of of wanting to kind of look at Old school, make
- 18:34an account, log in and try it in front of everybody.
- 18:37So I mean, obviously I've streamed World of Warcraft now
- 18:40for seven years. I started in 2018 and it's been
- 18:44my main like content that I've been doing and I've been like
- 18:47making videos on and streaming and stuff like that and it's
- 18:50been really great. I love it.
- 18:52But I reached a little bit of a point where like I got quite
- 18:55burned out of like, you know, levelling new characters and
- 18:58doing it again and doing it again.
- 19:00So I, I went into a little of a lull with it and I ended up
- 19:02doing a lot of variety gaming for my stream and my myself as
- 19:06well did like Belder's Gate and a bunch of RPGs and a bit.
- 19:09But eventually I got like, I got like that itch to, to play an
- 19:13MMO again. And I really wanted to like kind
- 19:15of delve myself into like a longer kind of experience with
- 19:20an MMO. And I've spoken to a lot of my
- 19:23friends and they always, always told me that, oh, you know, you
- 19:25got to try Old School Runescape. Like I, I think you would love
- 19:27it. Like, I think it'd be great.
- 19:28Oh, you should try it out, even if it's just for a little bit.
- 19:31And then I was like, you know what, I'm kind of a little bit
- 19:34burned out on Wow. I'm doing a lot of variety
- 19:36stuff. Maybe it's time to give it a
- 19:38try. And at first there was like OK,
- 19:41I'll do a little video series on it where I stream it for a week
- 19:45and then I'll be like my 7 days of Runescape, right?
- 19:49And that was my idea. But I never really had an idea
- 19:52to play it long term. It was just like OK, I'll table
- 19:54my toes into it, probably think it's OK and then move on.
- 19:58But. It, it, it kind of became this
- 20:01whole thing with like I, I just got so sucked into it.
- 20:04And then I had such positive feedback for my approach to the
- 20:08game as well. And it, it, it, those things
- 20:09kind of feed into each other, you know, like I'm having fun
- 20:13and then my, my YouTube and my stream is really, really
- 20:16positively, you know, engaging with my content too.
- 20:20So I was like, man, this is really something and it, it made
- 20:24me take my time a little bit more with the game rather than
- 20:28rushing it. And I think that's what made me
- 20:30really enjoy myself a lot because I was reading the
- 20:32quests. I was like, you know, trying to
- 20:35learn things blind and have this really open mind approach to it
- 20:39where I'm not trying to get anywhere fast.
- 20:42I'm just trying to play a game and have fun, right?
- 20:45And that that's, that's kind of what I tried to do with with it
- 20:49at first. Just like, OK, I'll just play
- 20:50the game and have have fun. And it turned into a lot more.
- 20:53It definitely, definitely did turn into a lot more I had
- 20:57remembered cuz I ever since the first only things I wasn't even
- 21:02a part of it. But I've I started following a
- 21:04lot of wild guys after that, just cuz, you know, Flutten was
- 21:07a part of it and I'd saw her play with so many people.
- 21:10And I remember coming across your videos.
- 21:14I think actually the first time I had seen your stream is the
- 21:18the wow video, like the my very first wow video that I made,
- 21:21like the stand alone one when I tried all of them.
- 21:24And that was the first time I'd I'd come across you is, is
- 21:29reacting to it. And then I think before that I
- 21:34realized that you'd also watched a Gary video and it, I remember
- 21:37watching that one and, and you had said in there you were
- 21:40thinking about trying old school and that was like a year before
- 21:44you'd tried. So I like this is this has been
- 21:47on your mind for a while. Like they kind of like in the in
- 21:49the back of your head, like, you know, maybe I should try it out.
- 21:52So to kind of have that timing come around, you know, right
- 21:57after only things. Well, I guess not right after,
- 21:58but you know, only things that kind of died down a few months
- 22:01and everybody kind of in this, I guess this limbo of like what to
- 22:06do next, cuz everyone just got done doing a huge committed
- 22:10grind. And I think the timing couldn't
- 22:13have been better for getting into everything.
- 22:15And and I remember you saying you saw Mad season, try it out,
- 22:19which is what maybe you want to kind of dive into.
- 22:22Yeah, so like, I I mean, I played bowl my whole life,
- 22:25right. And like I really love the
- 22:26classic game. So I always thought like, oh,
- 22:29what what is Runescape right, Like, right.
- 22:31But I always thought like, oh man, if you Runescape is kind of
- 22:34like that, you know, it's like that game you play if you don't
- 22:36play Wow. So it's kind of like there was
- 22:38always been like this like underlying feud between Wow and
- 22:41Runescape players. But I've always wanted to try it
- 22:44out to, to like, like just to see what it is.
- 22:47Because I've been told by so many people that there's so much
- 22:50more to it than just what it looks like at first glance,
- 22:54right? Because let's be honest, it
- 22:55looks quite dated, right? Yeah, but.
- 22:58Absolutely. Yeah, but I've been playing with
- 23:01the thought of doing it, but I never really got around to it
- 23:03because I feel weird committing to an MMO when I'm already
- 23:06playing Wow, right? So I'm doing Wow and I'm hopping
- 23:09to Runescape and back to Wow and that stuff.
- 23:11So I never really did it. And this was just like a perfect
- 23:14opportunity. And I definitely, we'll be
- 23:16honest, when I, I, I saw Matt Season's videos and I'm like,
- 23:19damn, this looks pretty interesting.
- 23:21Maybe I should give it a try, you know?
- 23:23Especially the way he's playing because IBA is just completely
- 23:27blind. Guide list Like that's a nutty
- 23:29way to to approach the game like it's it's tough as a as a brand
- 23:33new player. Like before you guys had all
- 23:36come over here and and a couple of you guys trying it, you know,
- 23:39completely guide list. One of my buddies named Alien
- 23:42Food is doing Oh. Yeah, dude.
- 23:45Quest Cape like he's just playing through the game guide
- 23:48list like unguided. This is a serious name and he
- 23:51had played runescape already like he's already played it and
- 23:54people were that interested in someone playing guide list.
- 23:56So all of you guys coming over here and actually having zero
- 24:00experience with the game guide list is like a whole new level
- 24:03of like Oh my God, like that's insane sort of thing.
- 24:07Are you playing guide list still like are you, are you kind of
- 24:10where are you at with it? So like.
- 24:12For me, it's like a bit of an in between, right?
- 24:13Because obviously I'm live streaming, so there's going to
- 24:15be a lot of just people telling me things like randomly, right?
- 24:19But quests, I, I don't look up anything, I don't use the wiki.
- 24:23I do everything blind as as much as I can, right?
- 24:27Because sometimes I get a little bit stuck and since I'm
- 24:29streaming, I kind of want to, I don't want to get stuck on
- 24:32something just to be stuck right.
- 24:34So like with the fermining trials, I ran into like a part
- 24:37with a where you got to go find some beer and put it into like
- 24:40some crazy stuff, right? Yeah.
- 24:42And it was like, dude, I don't know how to do this guys.
- 24:44Please give me a hint. So like I have my give me hints
- 24:47or like I had AI had a meme at some point where they were
- 24:50linking me movie titles with hints, which is pretty funny.
- 24:54So I I do most of it, most new concept I try to do blind, like
- 24:57I try to learn bosses blind as well.
- 24:59And I think that for me that's been the fun part of it.
- 25:03Just being able to experience such a fleshed out MMO for the
- 25:07first time. Blind is really unique.
- 25:11I mean, you know this for now as well, right?
- 25:12So definitely, yeah, it's it's, you know, it's a unique thing to
- 25:16do when on Rune Light, there's like a built in Wikipedia button
- 25:20in the top right, like near your mini map.
- 25:22Like that's how much people rely on guides, even those new
- 25:25players and veteran players. It's, you know, it's just a part
- 25:28of the game for a lot of people. But do you remember like your
- 25:33first week of playing old school?
- 25:37Because I mean, you said you would had only really intended
- 25:38to play for a week. And but but do you, if you
- 25:42rewind and kind of like remember your first few days of playing
- 25:47and experiencing it, just kind of what was going through your
- 25:50mind about old school as a game? Because I'm assuming it, it had
- 25:53kind of been very unexpected come coming at angles that you
- 25:58didn't see. Do you remember kind of what you
- 26:00were thinking as you were going through that very, very early
- 26:03game? I mean, OK, this is going to
- 26:06sound weird, but at first it kind of gave me a little bit of
- 26:09nostalgia about being like, I don't know, 10-8 years old and
- 26:13then logging into like, you know, Q8 or mini mini clip or
- 26:17whatever those websites were called, the browser websites and
- 26:20just booting up. Did you know Adventure Quest?
- 26:24Oh yeah, I played it. I had like the permanent $20
- 26:27membership to that, Yeah. Yeah, those games, it gave me
- 26:31that feeling of just, I don't know, just silly, silly game in
- 26:36a way, but in a in a very positive way.
- 26:38But at first it was like, OK, well, this is kind of fun.
- 26:40I'm like messing around. I'm learning all these crazy
- 26:43mechanics like I'm learning to cook and to fish and to kill
- 26:46goblins and stuff. But it slowly became more and
- 26:50more like, damn, there's a lot of thought in this game.
- 26:53There's a lot of like thought process put into all these
- 26:55things. And I think the the biggest
- 26:57thing that got me was the quests.
- 26:59I think when I did the the murder mystery quest in in house
- 27:03Mistalin, I think it's called. Yep, that was like, that was
- 27:07really special because of like, damn, there's some good like fun
- 27:11humor and like silly wittiness, which I really, really
- 27:14appreciate it. But I don't know, it felt so it
- 27:19felt like being lost in a new world a bit, which I really
- 27:22enjoyed. Current players, like veteran
- 27:25players would pay unlimited money to experience that initial
- 27:29first week again, because a lot of us didn't, you know, I mean,
- 27:32it's like, you know, your first week playing World of Warcraft
- 27:35in 2005, you know, it's like you can't remember even the, the
- 27:39whole feeling because it's been so long ago.
- 27:41So that's how, you know, all of us are trying to like live
- 27:44vicariously through all the you guys.
- 27:45And I'm sure just watching that first week of just, you know,
- 27:49not knowing what everything is, It's such a good thing to to
- 27:53feel it's it's awesome. Yeah, yeah, I remember when I
- 27:58watched you and all the other people come over to only things
- 28:02as well, and I saw your reactions to dungeons.
- 28:05I'm like. Yeah.
- 28:06I remember feeling like that going to whaling caverns and.
- 28:10Getting lost in the caverns. And it's one of those things
- 28:12like you don't realize how precious those memories are for
- 28:16players. They've been playing for a long
- 28:18time. Because when I'm making those
- 28:19videos that go through whaling caverns and all the dead minds,
- 28:24and there's these little details that I just think of as a little
- 28:27funny thing. But then it's such a big deal to
- 28:30players because they're like, I can't believe that, you know,
- 28:33players don't see that anymore. You know, they don't realize
- 28:36that this is this way sort of thing.
- 28:38So it's, it's such a special thing seeing, you know, like an
- 28:41MMO that is so dear to you be experienced by somebody like in
- 28:46modern day. It's it's awesome when you
- 28:49started progressing your account a little bit.
- 28:51This is a, a, a huge phrase that's being said.
- 28:55I've been asking everyone this. It's very interesting to hear
- 28:57the answers, but I'm sure you've heard it 400 times by now of
- 29:02this statement that progression matters in old school Runescape.
- 29:07People throw that around a lot to the point where it made me
- 29:10even question whether it was still even true because of it's
- 29:13like the, you know, the the psychological thing of
- 29:16repetition and like everyone's saying it so much that is it
- 29:19actually true sort of things I don't even know anymore because
- 29:22it's not my thing to really judge.
- 29:24So from a long time Wow player, when someone says you know
- 29:29progression matters in old school runescape, do you agree
- 29:32with that and and why or why not?
- 29:35I I think the thing that that Runescape, Old School Runescape
- 29:39rather has done really, really well is that they've made it so
- 29:43that you feel like the things you're doing matters in the
- 29:47sense that like, OK, now I'm going to barrows and I get my
- 29:51Barrow drop. Now I have that for good.
- 29:53Now I can utilise this for go to moons and then whenever I get my
- 29:57moons items and I end up green locking the moons.
- 29:59Now I have all this gear that I can forever use and I don't have
- 30:02to go back. So you it's like this never
- 30:05ending checklist of things that you can kind of do that will
- 30:08allow you to do more things. So I think the way that the game
- 30:11opens up is really great. And I also think that they've
- 30:16done such a good job at making it feel rewarding and the, the
- 30:19sense of like, OK, in the beginning, there's a lot of
- 30:22stuff that happens, a lot of like level ups and, and items
- 30:25and stuff like that. It can be very overwhelming.
- 30:27But eventually it, it evens out to the point where whenever you
- 30:30actually get those drops, it feels meaningful.
- 30:33When it comes to World of Warcraft, it's done very
- 30:35differently because a lot of the things you attain while
- 30:37levelling and throughout your journey kind of gets replaced
- 30:41quite quickly. And I think that's the way that
- 30:42they mean like, oh, well, things matter, right?
- 30:45Because when I have these things that matters.
- 30:47And when I have my prayer levels, it will never go down.
- 30:50I can I can have 70 prayer lockout lock back a year from
- 30:54now and it's still 70 out of 99, right?
- 30:56100%. So I, I really think they've
- 30:59done a really good job at just firing up people's dopamine
- 31:03receptors of getting a drop and then never having to farm it
- 31:06again. You know, like I like, like the
- 31:08other night I got my fishing barrel, you know, and I'm like,
- 31:11dude, now I can fish like twice as efficiently and like, I'd
- 31:14never have to get that again. You know, that like that.
- 31:17I think that's that's what they've done so good.
- 31:19Definitely. I guess it's very telling that,
- 31:23you know, when thinking about something like Barrows, the fact
- 31:26that it does become a pit stop for most players, like
- 31:29especially Iron Men that's been in the game since 2005.
- 31:34Like, you know, even all through the 12 years of Old School's
- 31:37existence putting its own content in, you still stop at
- 31:40Barrows like you're always going to be doing that.
- 31:43So they've done such a good job of like, balancing all of the
- 31:46progression and like the armor and, you know, monitoring power
- 31:49creep and all that, which is probably one of the hardest
- 31:53things to manage in developing an MMO.
- 31:56Dude, I don't know how they've done it so well because like it
- 31:59feels, it feels good. Like they've they've really done
- 32:03a good job at at managing the power creep and making sure that
- 32:07OK, you're not going to like like you're not going to get
- 32:10some item and now you're twice as strong, right?
- 32:12Like, it's it, it feels really good the way that the
- 32:16progression works in this game, which I think is very surprising
- 32:19for how much content there is to do.
- 32:21Yeah, definitely. And Sardako actually talked
- 32:23about this in his new video that he posted about item identity,
- 32:28which I thought was really interesting because I've never
- 32:30really thought about it of just the fact that when you go and
- 32:35get an item, you know, it it means something.
- 32:37Even if it's just like a rune scimitar.
- 32:39It's like that's such an important thing that you don't
- 32:42skip or you don't, you know, take for granted what do you get
- 32:45it sort of thing. And it's, you know, you remember
- 32:48a rune scimitar. Whereas like in World of
- 32:49Warcraft when you're level 40 and you get some, you know, blue
- 32:52drop somewhere. Like it's nice and it makes you
- 32:54feel powerful, but you don't even remember the name of it.
- 32:57Probably like unless you've played the game forever and you
- 32:59just memorize all these things, like, you know, you just, it's
- 33:03just an item that it's just this thing that you have and you
- 33:06know, you move on from it pretty quick.
- 33:09So it's just the fact that all of these items that you come
- 33:13across or grind for are always going to be in your mind on your
- 33:18your journey there. So it's such a cool system that
- 33:22I never really thought about in that way.
- 33:24That's a really cool part that they've managed to fit in the
- 33:27game somehow. I don't know how they, I don't
- 33:29know how they did it. I don't know.
- 33:31Yeah, they've done a really good job at making things matter a
- 33:34lot, like on the long term. And like you, you feel like you
- 33:37build up all these different sets that has different purposes
- 33:40for different like things, right?
- 33:41It's like, oh, I want to use my rings, my recurring for this
- 33:45boss or I want to have my tanking set when I do moon, so
- 33:48the moon set I can use for this. And then there's a lot of like
- 33:50things that you use for other things, which I, which is what I
- 33:53think they, they've done a good job with.
- 33:55You have things for certain situations, which is where the
- 33:59vertical versus horizontal thing comes into play, right?
- 34:01Where like it's not like a power creep was like, now you get a
- 34:05new axe and now this axe is 10% better or 50% better.
- 34:08It's a different axe for a different purpose.
- 34:11Right. Yeah, it's such a good system
- 34:15that kind of like, you know, intertwines with each other and
- 34:17it, it's just, it's great. It's they, I mean, they had a
- 34:21really good foundation, like the old school team had a really
- 34:23good foundation to start with. You know, you got to give, give
- 34:26them a credit from, you know, the 2007 and before days.
- 34:30Like, you know, they, they set it up nicely and but they've
- 34:32done an incredible job at kind of managing it over the years.
- 34:37Do you personally have a favorite grind that you've done
- 34:40so far? A favorite grind when you say?
- 34:43I mean, people always get very picky when you talk about grinds
- 34:47in this game. I'm saying anything I'm saying
- 34:49if whether you liked standing still at a sand crab for a week
- 34:53straight or if you wanted to get to a certain, you know, finish a
- 34:57certain storyline for the quests to get an item or just to have
- 35:01the quest line done. Like what?
- 35:03When you look back at some of like the most enjoyable times so
- 35:07far, what what comes to mind first?
- 35:10The biggest moment for me obviously is getting my fire
- 35:13Cape, like going into the fire caves lined and like seeing Jad
- 35:18and getting one shot and then like learning him afterwards.
- 35:22That is by far the biggest moment for me.
- 35:25But I I think like bosses. I love doing bosses.
- 35:29I've recently learned to do Suram and I love PBM in this
- 35:32game. I think it's really good.
- 35:34So I would say like the fire cave bossing and inquesting.
- 35:38I've been really a big fan of questing in this game.
- 35:41I think it's been so amazing and I'm really excited for Blood
- 35:43Moon Rises next year because Since of the Father is still my
- 35:45favorite quest. Oh yeah, it's a great, great
- 35:47quest line. Yeah, yeah.
- 35:49Big fan of quest personally, for some reason, I don't know why,
- 35:52but I do love quests. Oh yeah.
- 35:55I've noticed that. Definitely always been my
- 35:59favorite. It's just, I love the the fact
- 36:02that, you know, our player never in this version of Runescape,
- 36:06not the not in the other one, but in this version, you know,
- 36:09our player never exceeds an adventurer.
- 36:13You know that you're never a champion or hero or anything
- 36:15like that. You're just a guy, which is so
- 36:17it has this charm. Yeah.
- 36:19You stumble into things by accident, you mess things up.
- 36:21And then you suddenly like, it's so funny looking at all the
- 36:24quest storylines because half of them it's like you, you're, you
- 36:26find yourself in, in this like extraordinary situation, like
- 36:30this world ending if you don't do anything about its situation.
- 36:34But half the time you started that situation like because you
- 36:37did something you weren't supposed to, which is really,
- 36:39really funny. Like it's a very funny story
- 36:42that we experienced. Somehow, some way, it works out.
- 36:47Miraculously, it works out somehow.
- 36:50And even then, when it works out, no one's really
- 36:53congratulating you. They're kind of just like, yeah,
- 36:55well, that was your fault to begin with.
- 36:57So good, I guess. Good job, but don't let that
- 37:00happen again. Sort of.
- 37:01Things please don't come here again.
- 37:03It's a great vibe. Like I love that.
- 37:06Yeah, I love it. So I'm glad you like the quest.
- 37:07It's like itself, too Seriously. I'm glad.
- 37:09Oh, it's amazing because I mean, it's pretty meta nowadays even
- 37:12as new players to just kind of toggle on the quest helper and.
- 37:16Oh, I love it. I love the dialogue and the
- 37:18wittiness and like it's so good. They they nailed it, especially
- 37:22the new ones like the new quest coming out that the old school
- 37:25team's writing like they've got some crazy creativity that I'm
- 37:29so excited to see what they do after this.
- 37:33Real quick, you said that you've been doing some bossing.
- 37:36What like bossing have you done so far?
- 37:38I mean, I'll sort of raids of course I've done TOA, but I've
- 37:43done Barrows, I've done some Vorcath, I've done some moons,
- 37:48obviously a ton of moons. And I have recently learned Sora
- 37:53how to do Sora. So I've killed Sora 26 Times Now
- 37:57as well, which I also tried to learn blind.
- 37:59Nice. Yeah, Zolra.
- 38:01Not my favorite content to say the least.
- 38:03I do not I. Really like it actually.
- 38:06Really do you yeah, I guess I never I never took the time to
- 38:08really learn it because I I never did the grind on an Iron
- 38:11Man and I wasn't going to do the grind on a main account for no
- 38:13reason. So I've never really like, you
- 38:15know, done the traditional learn Zolra rotation and, you know,
- 38:20just grind it out for a while, but I'm sure it'll have to
- 38:24happen eventually. But that's cool.
- 38:27That's cool. The bossing has been enjoyable.
- 38:30Moons is so cool. I thought that's a that's a dope
- 38:33place. Yeah.
- 38:35When it comes to you know, your current, like you know, present
- 38:38day right now journey of old school, you know, twitch
- 38:42audience aside, YouTube success aside, why do you find yourself
- 38:46still logging in and playing in terms of you know, do you have
- 38:51some long term goals in mind or is it kind of just like you like
- 38:55living in the moment playing or you know where are you at in
- 38:58that sense? I.
- 39:00Mean generally I'm a very goal oriented person and I I like
- 39:03challenging myself So for the time being for me it's like I
- 39:07want to finish off the quest Cape, which I have currently 23
- 39:11more quests to go and after that I want to try to take on inferno
- 39:15Cape. I want to see if I can learn
- 39:17that and then do that and then to kind of take it as it goes.
- 39:20But I, I, I like challenges and I like having like goals to work
- 39:23on and stuff like that. And so far I think Runescape has
- 39:28been great at keeping me busy and keeping me interested
- 39:32because whenever I finish a current thing, there's already
- 39:36another thing which I really like.
- 39:37I don't know if it'll be like that forever, but for the time
- 39:42being, I really enjoy learning bosses and learning quests and
- 39:46learning rates and, and challenges.
- 39:48So that that's probably what I've been enjoying a lot with
- 39:51with the game. Yeah, your pace has definitely
- 39:54felt very natural, especially compared to a lot of the the WOW
- 39:57guys so far. I'm a turtle man.
- 40:00Yeah, it's the best way to do it and it is it is by far the best
- 40:04way to go about it, which I'm really glad because it felt like
- 40:08when all the Wow guys were coming over, everyone's got Wow
- 40:12brain initially of, you know, the best way to that, you know,
- 40:17it was put so far was that it it feels like every Wow expansion,
- 40:22like kind of no matter what Wow you're logged into, it almost
- 40:26feels like you are on a timer, like you're yeah, you need to
- 40:31get to that end game point, that best in slot point before the
- 40:37next patch happens or before the next expansion happens.
- 40:39Like you are constantly rushing to that point with everybody.
- 40:44I think a lot of that also comes to to with the fact that it's
- 40:47like a content race, because if you're the first ball person to
- 40:50do this, then like a lot of people will, you know, be hyped
- 40:53about it. So like it's like, yeah, it's
- 40:55like a race between content and then also between like, I don't
- 40:59know, just experiencing everything.
- 41:01And then I think also like the a lot of the ball people are very
- 41:05competitive with each other, so they want to like kind of like
- 41:08push each other, which is fucking crazy because they're
- 41:10all playing like 1618 hours a day.
- 41:12Yeah. But yeah, you're right,
- 41:13certainly. Right.
- 41:14That's probably the fastest paced new player I've ever seen
- 41:19ever. Crazy.
- 41:20I don't know. I don't know.
- 41:22He is just a gamer at heart. He's already messaging me about
- 41:27Inferno and I was like, hate to break it to you brother, but
- 41:30I've procrastinated that content for about 7 years now.
- 41:33So move along to the next OSRS guy.
- 41:36So, but it just goes to show like you don't need to rush
- 41:41content ever during your time playing.
- 41:45So it's, it's very funny watching like all the the Wow
- 41:48guys like the fact that there's so many Wow guys doing raids
- 41:51already like going and doing chambers of Zurich together.
- 41:55It's like, dude, you guys know you can crazy relax a little
- 41:58bit. Rightly, you're doing content
- 42:00that was out in 2017 like this. It's not going anywhere and
- 42:05you're still going to be here. So you don't have to do this
- 42:07like, but if they're loving it, then why not, you know?
- 42:10I think you get, you get caught up in the hype, right?
- 42:12You get caught up in the and you want to just keep going and it
- 42:15just goes crazy I guess. Have you personally felt like
- 42:18any of that, like Speaking of FOMO, like have you felt any of
- 42:21that knowing that these guys are kind of doing that end game
- 42:25content? Not really because I, I went
- 42:28into this with the approach of just having fun and then trying
- 42:31to experience a game. I'm, I'm not trying to race
- 42:34anyone. I, I've been having a lot of fun
- 42:36playing it with, with that in mind.
- 42:39They're like, OK, I'm just trying to like have fun and like
- 42:42explore the game. I don't want to try to rush
- 42:44anything. So I play pretty slow compared
- 42:47to the other wild people, but I I haven't really felt like I
- 42:50need to speed up my stuff because of that, no.
- 42:54That's good. That's very good mentality to
- 42:56have. Yeah, most updates I have a
- 43:00little sprinkle of FOMO because a lot of my friends that play
- 43:04are so fast at doing things like day one need to start completing
- 43:08it, need to video out, need to like go record myself completing
- 43:11it sort of thing. And I'm just like, man, we're
- 43:14still going to need to do this anyway, like a few months from
- 43:16now whenever we're going to progress.
- 43:18So like, I don't really want to do it day one.
- 43:20Like let me wait a second. I don't want to do that.
- 43:23So I I'm constantly feeling that little, little bit of it of just
- 43:28like, Oh yeah, that looks cool. Like, I wish I was doing that
- 43:30with you guys right now, but you know, it's fine.
- 43:34Yeah, definitely. Just take.
- 43:35Your time with things, definitely just on your own
- 43:37piece. But I guess recently there's
- 43:38been, we kind of knew that after all the Wow guys came over,
- 43:41there was going to be a few that did what you initially wanted to
- 43:47do of just kind of trying it for a week or two and then, you
- 43:49know, backing out. And then there's also guys like
- 43:53Shobeck who are kind of hitting this like obstacle in the road
- 43:55right now of like, you know, not really feeling it, not really
- 43:59motivated. Why do you think that is that
- 44:03some of these guys just kind of went back to Wow or just stopped
- 44:07playing entirely, you know, rather than sticking around like
- 44:10a big chunk of you guys did. I.
- 44:12Mean there could be a lot of reasons for it, right Maybe it's
- 44:14not like a game they had intentions of like maning down
- 44:17the road for years to come right Maybe it's something they just
- 44:19like, OK, let me see how this game is and check out the MMO
- 44:22and and feel out the how the grass is on the other side of
- 44:26the fence right and then go back to my own thing and maybe come
- 44:29back and check it later again or maybe some people like damn, OK,
- 44:33this game has a lot to offer. Let me play it a lot way too a
- 44:37lot and then burn out and then like feel like I have to do
- 44:40something else because I've played it like 20 hours a day
- 44:43but ultimately like I'm I'm just happy that people are giving it
- 44:46a try and will all of them play forever?
- 44:49No, probably not. I think it's very few people
- 44:52that will but I I can speak for myself that like I I definitely
- 44:56learned to appreciate a lot of what Runescape is and the
- 44:59community and the game and stuff like that and I think that's
- 45:03something that I didn't really expect to happen this way.
- 45:05I think a lot of people from the Runescape community perhaps
- 45:08expected while players to join, shit on the game and leave,
- 45:11right. Yeah.
- 45:12So I think I think it's been overall a very positive
- 45:15experience for for most people. But some people won't play
- 45:18forever. And I think that's fine.
- 45:20You know, you're not forced to play a game.
- 45:21I I I think it's, it's good just giving it a try and playing once
- 45:25in a while if you feel like it or playing it a whole ton, like
- 45:27like a joker, right? Like I think it's OK, but like,
- 45:30I don't know, some people probably burned out and some
- 45:32others just wanted to check out how it was and then had no more
- 45:35intentions of playing long term, right?
- 45:37Yeah, I I just had wondered if, you know, for a lot of these
- 45:40guys, it's because it really is the the amount of trends that I
- 45:44saw when everyone was was trying it for the first time of just
- 45:48this very. You know, your brain is so
- 45:50attuned to vertical progression and kind of like seeing a list
- 45:55and going down the line and following a path like that's set
- 45:57for you kind of thing. And and so it's such a different
- 46:01experience and different mentality.
- 46:04And especially when a lot of the guys were, you know, logging in
- 46:081214 hours a day, you know, just go in full throttle.
- 46:12It's like, man, that that can burn you out so fast, so
- 46:17abruptly. It's like it's almost not
- 46:20surprising that a lot of the the guys were I.
- 46:23Mean. Kind of clocking out basically.
- 46:26If you put in that many hours on it, it's I mean that's insane.
- 46:29I mean I'm playing a lot. I, I, I play like, you know, 678
- 46:33hours, you know, most days, but I, I still like, I do some other
- 46:37games, I delve into other content and I still plan on
- 46:39doing that. It's not like now I play
- 46:41Runescape forever, but I've, I've really have been enjoying
- 46:44my journey so far with the game. And I'm definitely, you know, I
- 46:49it's, it's a game that like, OK man.
- 46:51Like even if I one day maybe don't play as much, I would
- 46:54still be really hyped for new content and new quests and
- 46:57stuff. Because, you know, I wouldn't
- 46:59have played it for over 100 days if it was just for, like, you
- 47:02know, a quick detour, I guess, Yeah.
- 47:05But yeah, definitely not. Yeah, it's it's good that it's
- 47:08kind of become that. I guess on that note, do you see
- 47:11yourself continuing OSRS down the road like for, I mean, I
- 47:16don't wanna say years to come, but maybe years to come, who
- 47:19knows. Do you think it's become like a
- 47:21permanent part of your cool belt of games to play?
- 47:25Yeah, I would say so. I don't know if it's a game
- 47:26I'll, I'll main forever. Like now this is my main thing
- 47:29and I'm going to just play it forever.
- 47:30But yeah, it's a game that I've really come to appreciate and
- 47:33it's definitely a game I'll even if I stop playing at some point,
- 47:36I'll be able to come back to and play again.
- 47:37And that's where it's great that like I don't lose my progress if
- 47:41I one day feel burned out or I want to do some other stuff a
- 47:43bit. I, I wouldn't feel forced to, to
- 47:47have the FOMO of like, oh man, now I lose my progress because I
- 47:50can just start playing again if I feel like it, right?
- 47:52And I think that's a really good thing.
- 47:54Yeah, 100. Percent.
- 47:55Yeah, that's good. When it when it comes to, you
- 47:58know, 'cause right now I think Grid Masters probably the first
- 48:02like temporary game mode that you've seen come out and it's
- 48:06the first temporary game mode we've had that's not dead man
- 48:08mode or leagues. Do you see yourself, I guess
- 48:13probably this first one like that, since everyone's kind of
- 48:15new, it's not the most appealing thing because it kind of getting
- 48:18the content organically in the main servers is probably the
- 48:21best course of action there. But do you see yourself playing
- 48:25future temporary game modes like that, like participating, even
- 48:28if you're kind of like on a hiatus from old school?
- 48:30Oh yeah. I think that'll be great.
- 48:32I think that'll be awesome. I mean, for sure, I, I, I think
- 48:36temporary game modes are a really good like reprieve from
- 48:38like the main game and make sure like just have fun with it and
- 48:41see the game in a different light, right?
- 48:42Even for myself, the Gridmaster was really fun to play for two
- 48:46days. I got really, I got a little bit
- 48:48burned out on it, I won't lie, because it was too much
- 48:51happening. Yeah, there's a lot going on.
- 48:54But yeah, I mean, if there's ever a future league, I would
- 48:56definitely be down to check it out, especially if I knew more
- 48:59about the end game and more bosses and stuff, you know,
- 49:01because then you can see how fast you can do those or
- 49:04whatever. Yeah, yeah, it definitely helps
- 49:06with. I know Jag X kind of takes the
- 49:08approach of like, you know, maybe this can introduce new
- 49:12players or casual players to more end game content to kind of
- 49:16give them an introduction to it. But it it also is a very it
- 49:20could be very overwhelming. So that that that makes sense.
- 49:24I hadn't asked anyone else this, but I feel like it could be
- 49:27since you are pretty deep in the old school community at this
- 49:31point and you know, you've got an audience that's, you know,
- 49:34coming from both games and you've you've just seen this big
- 49:38surge looking at Soda Poppin. I've talked to him a little bit
- 49:44just, you know, privately because he's not just taking a
- 49:47break from old school, he's taking a break from streaming
- 49:49entirely. So it's like a whole different
- 49:51situation. But he did experience this
- 49:53little like, I guess tribalism from the old school community
- 49:57just because he went and played Wow for like a few days.
- 50:00Granted, it was a very loud minority, but it it was enough
- 50:05to just kind of make him like upset with the old school
- 50:08community. So as a streamer with a large
- 50:11audience, does that kind of give you any worry to the, you know,
- 50:16go back to Wow or try and put OSRS down for a little bit or
- 50:21what? What's your mentality behind,
- 50:23you know, making sure that you know, this doesn't pigeonhole
- 50:27you into just like OSRS? Yeah.
- 50:29I mean, as a content creator, it's always something that you
- 50:31gotta keep in mind whenever you're doing something that if
- 50:34you're doing a game that has a very, very strong community and
- 50:38you end up doing something else, they might not be very happy
- 50:40with you. But ultimately for me, as long
- 50:43as I am currently enjoying what I'm doing and I'm having fun
- 50:46with it, I'll do it. But that's what I said as well.
- 50:49Like, I don't know how if I'll keep playing this game.
- 50:51Maybe one day I'll do something else and come back to Runescape
- 50:53later. And there might be some people
- 50:55that would be unhappy with that, given that's probably a vocal,
- 50:58vocal minority, but it happens and it's something you got to
- 51:02keep in mind. And I don't know, I, I try not
- 51:05to get to me too much because I, I, I'm just trying to have fun
- 51:09with the games, right? And then enjoy myself.
- 51:11I've definitely noticed that sometimes we're like, I'm doing
- 51:13other games. I'm like, where's Runescape?
- 51:16Or did you quit Runescape? Did you?
- 51:17Quit. Yeah.
- 51:18Yeah, and it's becoming a little bit of a meme, I guess in the
- 51:20stream, but there are some people that genuinely wonder,
- 51:22right? Yeah, I've noticed Showbik has
- 51:25gotten quite a lot of backlash for his his sudden, you know,
- 51:28break or quitting or whatever, which is a little bit sad.
- 51:31I think it's also like a lot of vocal minorities.
- 51:34Maybe it's also because he, you know, banter a little bit back
- 51:38and it like snowballed and stuff, but.
- 51:40Yeah, I think so. You.
- 51:41Know it's yeah, but it's a bit unfortunate that it can get to
- 51:45the point where people are, you know, getting very annoyed with
- 51:48a with a streamer doing something different.
- 51:50But I think ultimately they just want people to enjoy their game.
- 51:54And you know, but again, it can definitely, it can definitely
- 51:58spin out of control a bit. But you know, just because
- 52:01someone is not playing your game for a little bit doesn't mean
- 52:03that they hate it, right? Yeah, I've always tried to
- 52:05advocate, you know, for streamers and content creators
- 52:08to just do what they're enjoying because it's, as an audience
- 52:12member, it's usually pretty easy to tell, you know, whether
- 52:15they're enjoying what they're doing or not.
- 52:19So it's, I think I think it's important and healthy,
- 52:24especially to not just play one game, you know, like to broaden
- 52:28the horizon a little bit, but. I, I love Runescape and I've
- 52:31been playing it majority for like the past 100 days now, 1/4
- 52:34of a year almost. But I've also been like doing
- 52:37different variety games. I'm playing through like Zelda
- 52:39and like a bunch of other stuff that I've ever done, and I'll
- 52:42continue to do that because I like it and a lot of my
- 52:45community members in my stream likes it, right?
- 52:48As much as I still enjoy Runescape, I also want to do
- 52:50other things right. Yeah, especially as someone that
- 52:54you know, you've definitely taken the opportunity to kind of
- 53:00express a lot of different opinions on game elements and
- 53:05different parts of games, especially Runescape and Wow.
- 53:09And I feel like playing other games, whether it's another MMO
- 53:12or just an RPG like Baldur's Gate, it, it gives you insight
- 53:16into different game worlds that can help kind of give some
- 53:21insight when there's discussions happening for, for updates or
- 53:25directions to take and just kind of talking with an audience
- 53:28about what's going on or what your thoughts are.
- 53:31So I, I've, I've found that it helps a lot for, you know, video
- 53:35essays. And I'm sure whenever you're
- 53:36talking with chat about stuff, it's definitely influenced a
- 53:39little bit to think about other things you've played.
- 53:43Yeah, I mean, a lot of my stuff is definitely like more live
- 53:45conversations and stuff. I, I, I don't like think I like,
- 53:48I don't like do like big essays like you do, but it, it still
- 53:51really helps in like formulating your thoughts or like thinking
- 53:54about certain mechanics in different lights, right?
- 53:56100% So I guess one last question here.
- 53:59So it's probably the most important one.
- 54:01It's not, it's not even close. What would you rate Old School
- 54:06Runescape out of 10? Oh.
- 54:11Man, that's a big question, huh? Out of 10?
- 54:15I mean, obviously I I can rate it out of what I have seen so
- 54:19far and it obviously in the MMO, you know, space I guess yeah
- 54:24man, I don't that's hard it. Is it is.
- 54:27Really good it. Before I say though, I will say
- 54:31Runescape knows exactly what it is.
- 54:35And it it is, it is unapologetically itself.
- 54:38And I think that's what makes it so good because if you like this
- 54:42type of game, it is the perfect game.
- 54:44But it's not for everybody. But for me, from what I've
- 54:48played, I mean, I don't know, at least like an 8 or a nine, I
- 54:52think, yeah, it's a really, it's the game that it is.
- 54:59It's a really old school style MMO and you get what you get,
- 55:03right. And I think it does what it does
- 55:07good. Yeah, I'm trying to formulate my
- 55:09words here. I'm not really getting them out.
- 55:10Right, I get what you say I. Completely hopefully what I'm
- 55:15saying is coming across a. 100% but I mean, anything Old School
- 55:20Runescape related that you've been thinking about during the
- 55:24conversation that we didn't really cover?
- 55:26On the top of my head, I can't really think of anything at the
- 55:29moment. I feel like we've covered a
- 55:30broad aspect of it. Yeah, anything you don't like
- 55:33about old school that just really grinds your gears when
- 55:36you log in. You know what I hate The
- 55:40community. No.
- 55:41I suck. Fuck him.
- 55:44No, I don't know. Not on the top of my head.
- 55:46No, I think it does what it does well.
- 55:49And it's not a game for everybody, but that's OK because
- 55:53for the people that like it, it's a freaking amazing game.
- 55:55Yeah, definitely. Yeah.
- 55:58It just makes me think of it. All you guys came over here.
- 56:01And then when it comes to old school understands its own
- 56:05identity, you know, we get the the gem crab like immediately
- 56:09when you guys come over here, it's like, oh, yeah, here's a
- 56:10crab that you stand at for 10 minutes at a time.
- 56:13It's like, we were already doing this anyway.
- 56:14But now, Yep, you don't have to fight for a world for it
- 56:16anymore. It's like, oh, it's like, OK,
- 56:18you guys know what this game is like, you know what your own
- 56:21game is? Go.
- 56:21What's up? Yeah.
- 56:23So that was it was good timing, I guess.
- 56:25That's awesome. Yeah, that was.
- 56:28Well, I think we've been talking for almost exactly an hour or
- 56:31so. That's awesome, man.
- 56:32Perfect timing, I guess. Yeah, that was good.
- 56:34Yeah, man, thank you so much for taking time out, especially
- 56:37after stream. I know how tough it is after
- 56:39stream to do anything whatsoever, so I really
- 56:42appreciate you doing that after you're of course a long stream
- 56:45like that. Man, that's awesome.
- 56:47No. You're good of course man, it
- 56:48was a fun conversation. Glad that you had me in mind for
- 56:50it. Yeah, 100%.
- 56:52There's no way I wouldn't. This is still a way.
- 56:55Yeah, man, I, I hope your your journey is going to be even
- 56:59better than you expect from here on out.
- 57:01I think a lot of people are just everyday looking forward to
- 57:05seeing what you're up to on old school.
- 57:07Even if you know, you take a break from it, I'm sure you're
- 57:10always going to have people that are interested in what whatever
- 57:12journey you got going on. So.
