Latest / HEAVY Music Interviews / Balancing The Scales With MARCO PASTORINO From TEMPERANCE
Transcript
- 0:00So my name is Mark. I'm a guitar player, single producer, some
- 0:04writer, blah blah blah, and my main band is called Temperance, and
- 0:11we're going to release our new album and retached the Roumasize Part two tomorrow and
- 0:15I think in a few hours in Australia. And so we are very excited
- 0:21about the album. We work soart on every single detail and we really can
- 0:28wait to come back on tour. I mean, we'll play just one more
- 0:31show this year to celebrate the release of the album in Netherlands in ten days,
- 0:36but then in February we will come back on tour in Europe and we
- 0:41have tons of plans for the next year. So let's see what will happen.
- 0:45Yeah, Marca, thanks for joining us all my pleasure. Does you
- 0:50say Temperance releases your new album Hermitage Rumor's Eyes Part two on October twenties.
- 0:56Tell us a bit more about the album from a musical point of view and
- 0:58what you're going for with it. So, since it's the first album of
- 1:03the band, the first concept album of the band. Sorry, the sobriety
- 1:07process and the recording process was very very funny and cool, exciting, also
- 1:15difficult, I have to say, because when you have to follow a sort
- 1:19of script, a story, it's totally different. But I finished the work
- 1:26on the story of the album almost two years ago and then I started collecting
- 1:32ideas here and there. But it was a very cool journey. And since
- 1:37in this album we have six characters, we decided to have six singers.
- 1:42I mean with Temperance we are three singers, not only me but also Christine
- 1:46film singer and Mikael. But since as I said, since there are six
- 1:52characters in this album, we have also Abi and Ernie from Elvet Micheade,
- 1:57Lava Fella from Foun and Alexander Conti from Three or Threat and Twilet Fourth and
- 2:02it's it's very cool and it was great. And plus as a narrator on
- 2:07the album, we have one of my personal heros, Arian Lucasm from Arion,
- 2:13and we are so honored to have him in this album. I mean,
- 2:20it was a it was a challenging because for sure it was a totally
- 2:25different process. We change also uh the way to produce the album. We
- 2:34we work with Simon and Roni from the GM about the mix he did the
- 2:38album from Michael Romeo from symphonics or rhapsody, and for the very first time
- 2:45in our career, we work for the orchestration with an external guy, Daniel
- 2:49Matsa from Ancient Barts and the final result is great. I mean, it's
- 2:53very epic, symphonic and I would say also dramatic cool can dive into the
- 3:00the concept for us the David, I know, what do you expect for
- 3:02now? The album's well the story of the concept, he said, sorry,
- 3:07okay. And so this is a full story based on time travel and
- 3:13a sort of file between two brothers, an Ingham alias Me and Irene alias
- 3:20Christine. But the main character of this album is called the Victor, and
- 3:23Victory is a guy from New York and it's not basically, it's not completely
- 3:29satisfied about his life and that's the reason why he traveled the world to reach
- 3:32Japan, Tokyo to try to find himself. And they're in the Temple of
- 3:38Asaksa and this is a real place in Tokyo. He found this small doll
- 3:43called Daruma. And when I found this doll and it touched this doll,
- 3:49it traveled into another world, another dimension, and this world is called Ermitaje.
- 3:54In this place Victor will meet some new friends and it will be able
- 4:00to change his destiny. Basicly very cool. And you released the singles Jerema
- 4:06and Irachan and Darkness is just a drawing. Now, I'm guessing you chose
- 4:11singles for a specific reason, So can you run through them individually and tell
- 4:15us why you chose them to represent the album. I mean, for every
- 4:19album, it's always very difficult to try to try to decide a single to
- 4:26release, but especially for this one because it's a concept album. Basically every
- 4:30there is a connection between every track. So first of all, we decide
- 4:36to release that because this is the opening track, and we thought, okay,
- 4:41this is the best way to introduce the album, the concept, the
- 4:44story. Then the second single, no Return, it's just a part of
- 4:49the beginning of the store because there is the song number five, and it's
- 4:55for sure also it's very catchy, but we are just at the beginning of
- 4:59the story. And then the last single release a couple of days ago,
- 5:02was Darkness is just a drawing and we are totally into the story. This
- 5:08is the song number nine, and in this album there are fourteen tracks,
- 5:13and this is a sort of speech between the trimming characters. So that's the
- 5:19reason why we decided to release this one as last single and have had sonically
- 5:25like good sonic representation of the albums I think. So, I mean,
- 5:30there are tons of different elements in this album, but yes, basically the
- 5:34first track is a mix between the old Temperance stuff plus the symphonic elements.
- 5:41Then the second is one of the most full oriented track of the album,
- 5:46and Darkness is a sort of mid temple ballad, but the chorus is totally
- 5:51Temperance. And we have these tons of vocal layers at the end of the
- 5:56tracks with some solo part made by me, some are made by Christine and
- 6:00this is one of the trademarks or the Temperance history, and I think it's
- 6:04a good representation. But for sure, there are tons of cool surprises in
- 6:10the album. So I I mentioned you guess that as Fabien, Laura and
- 6:14Alessandro running through the songs that I appear on, and why you chose them
- 6:18to represent those characters. So basically, I think we decide to work with
- 6:27people of our generation and that's the reason why basically Fabien Laura we have the
- 6:31same age. Alessandri is a little bit older, but don't tell him.
- 6:35Just kidding, but I mean they are some of the best singers in the
- 6:43scene right now. My opinion, Fabian is one of my favorite female singers
- 6:46out there, together with Christine and Melissa Bonni from Adimfinito for example, and
- 6:53Laura. She's the perfect voice for her Carter. I mean, I never
- 6:59was a big fan of Found, I have to say, but one year
- 7:01ago I saw her in Milano, I think, with Fauna, and I
- 7:05was quite impressed by voice and I decided to call her and for Alessandro.
- 7:11Al is one of my best friends in the music business since ten or twelve
- 7:16years, and I think it's still one of the best prota metal singer out
- 7:19there, together with Tommy joansm from Majestic I think. And the album was
- 7:24that comes with a book which is written by your good self, I believe,
- 7:27so it's about that. I mean, honestly, I wrote a story
- 7:32and just to write the lyrics for the album. But then when I started
- 7:36to talk with someone about the album, everyone suggests me to release also the
- 7:43book, maybe in a limited edition or something like that, because for our
- 7:46Diir fans all over the world could be a very cool thing to have in
- 7:50their collection. And I have to say it was the right choice because I
- 7:55mean, I think so far the book it's almost sold out, is just
- 8:00a short book. But if you want to go totally into the album,
- 8:05you have to listen to the album with a book in front of you and
- 8:07follow the story because there are fourteen chapters and for every chapter there is a
- 8:13song. So this is the best thing in my opinion, and it was
- 8:16the right choice, I think. And is it a concept that you'll you
- 8:20need to explore on future albums or does it finish? Yeah, I don't
- 8:24know, because we have a sort of open end at the at the end
- 8:28of the album, so let's see what will happen. We have no plan
- 8:33so far, but as usual in temperance, there's no rule at all.
- 8:37So maybe we'll release the Aromasaes part three, maybe a sort of flashback in
- 8:43the past. Let's see. And that's the playing these songs live like if
- 8:48they're on an album in chapters telling a storyline, you have to play chronological
- 8:54order for to make sense or do I still make sense headline songs? No,
- 8:58I think I I mean, we'll play the next shows, for sure,
- 9:03we'll play in one week in Netherlands for a festival in February. Well,
- 9:09we'll go on tour and for these shows we'll play just a few tracks
- 9:13from the album, but no because basically every track we can play every track
- 9:22a sort of standalone track. But the thing is for the next year,
- 9:26since it will be the tenth universary of the band, we really would love
- 9:30to do a sort of special show and play this album from the beginnings to
- 9:33the end. And let's see if we'll be able to do it. But
- 9:37maybe with a string quart or a sort of choir or something like that,
- 9:39because this album is very epic and symphonic and I think we need some something
- 9:45more than just all five on stage. I will plays very much to the
- 9:50album. I have a teach the room. His Eyes Part two is out
- 9:54October twentieth, and She's a cracker from whatever it might, best of luck
- 9:58with it and try
