- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, two chunks.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm dad.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Jordan, actually, instead of me.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: And I had my carpets steam cleaned in my house yesterday because when we moved in, whenever the sun hits just right in, it's hot, one room smells like wet dog.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: So we had our carpet steam cleaned.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: And let me tell you a fun new experience I had is forgetting that your carpets were freshly steamed cleaned and getting a damp sock in your own home.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, sort of a fun.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I've been real into Joe socks recently and it takes a minute for the wet to go from bottom of socks to wet, but there's like a delay.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like a time on God.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so you're just like
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's nice.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm enjoying them, but it does, it's like a delayed, delayed reaction to the wet sock when you have a wool sock, because you don't realize it until a couple minutes later when you're like, oh, no, it has to go through.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_03]: It's such a done, it has to seep.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_03]: Gress in the clean carpet, man.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you, so like divide your vibe is like,
- 1:56[SPEAKER_03]: The stink line's like, yeah, yeah, there was this kind of green film over your camera.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_03]: It's gone.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 2:24[SPEAKER_03]: How do you think the Titanic?
- 2:25[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I was gonna say.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: Ooh.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's probably like a knife bird.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's probably like how did the Titanic think?
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, as though it's like, the set up is like how did it's brain work and then the joke is with a knife bird.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's like a lot of the Titanic.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_03]: With a knife bird.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_03]: How do you think the unthinkable?
- 2:48[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's good actually.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_03]: That's the best one.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_03]: That's actually pretty good.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_03]: How do you think the unthinkable with an iceberg?
- 2:57[SPEAKER_03]: That's very good actually.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, that's very good.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Carter, I think that's very good.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_02]: Um, uh, I guess I'm the I'm the reason for the season.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty soon.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, Dad or day at cool if they made a day for you.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_02]: Just days away.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: Days away from you.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_03]: He's the same Patrick crazy, which is crazy.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: You tell you, I'm already spending my day.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of stuff.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: Which is fine.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: We had a Chelsea and I had like a gear day recently where I was like I'm going to take us to class.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to learn all the gear.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_02]: I've spent a days because, you know, millennial parenting.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_02]: There's lots of stuff, man.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: There's so many things.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: And it was a lot of fun.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: are you preparing us to ruin your daughter's Saturdays by being like, hey, we gotta go to Home Depot, that happened to me a lot as a kid.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that, you can just need today.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_03]: My alarm didn't go off.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_03]: I tried to know alarm clock app and you guys were knocking on my door saying, hey, get up.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_03]: We have to do work, get up, have I told you we have to do the app that I use?
- 4:08[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure you have.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_03]: I tried one that's supposed to like listen to you sleep and like, we're gonna wake you up at just the right time.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_03]: I had that guess it was like.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_03]: I guess it was just like, he needs this.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: We're just, we decided we're not going to get him up.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: Don't do that.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: So I won't say the name of the app because they're not paying for us, but I'll send it to you later.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: I have, if I don't get up and scan the barcode on my leaving conditioner, the alarm will not stop.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: It like forces me to get in.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's intense.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's intense.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but it works.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_02]: It was the only, I was a serious monster.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, is this scan pretty responsive?
- 4:43[SPEAKER_02]: Because sometimes QR, I know it's not a QR code, but sometimes that camera trying to focus.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's great.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's never not driving me crazy that early.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: The only downside is if you travel and you use a different bottle for travel, you have to remember to turn that alarm.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: Or else you have to clean the app to make it stop.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: But there's a bunch of different options.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: You can do like steps where it will like count your steps after you get up or you have to solve like a math problem or so.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: But I needed something to force me to get my feet out of the bed.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_03]: Where did like just ruin my day immediately?
- 5:16[SPEAKER_03]: Just start me mad.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: Well, just don't do the ones that make you mad.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty easy to just not do the ones that make you mad.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_03]: No, I'm saying the math problem.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I would never think that.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: I can't do my day angry.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: I can't do math when I'm not under Dores.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, much less 30 p.m.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: When I'm awake, I've had all my coffee on my food.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: I can't still can't do math.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, it's great.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: If you're, if you're a snooze monster, an oversleeper, or if you miss your alarm sometimes, this one, I've got a nice pretty song.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: And if I don't indicate that I'm up and heading to my conditioner within like a minute of the alarm going off, it transitions to this like horrible, terrible alarm sound that
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: is truly the worst noise I've ever heard, but it works, I don't know if I'm, I don't over sleep anymore, which is cool.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's the grads.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll submit to you if you want.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: Or if you just want to pretend like you care, I won't send it to you.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and this is all fake.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_03]: Once the recording's over, I'm going to tell you, we'll have these kids talk to me about that.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: I guess we'll see.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: We are.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: There's nobody that cares, like, a parent sometimes.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: I guess, I don't know.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know your story.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: But this time, there's sometimes nobody who cares.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's quite as much as most parents.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: For some people?
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody cares about them.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like a parent.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: And this parent we're talking about is a dad.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to a special two partner in one episode.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's a really just a one-art one-parter one-parter.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: Saturday afternoon, the Carter edition.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: So we have one-parter one-parter one-parter.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: Does Chosen Movie, I choose a movie.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: Each with a focus on a special dad, daughter relationship.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: And we have decided to kind of tell you.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I forgot mine had a dad daughter relationship.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_03]: I was just going for a bad ass dad.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: Really?
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: And my guy.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: I forgot there was a, I forgot there was a daughter in it.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_03]: That's fine.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_03]: I just knew there was Gary Oldman in a dad who was bad ass.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, I will pick that for Carter.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_03]: That's funny.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: It does feel like in the dad or day sphere.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like the, the actiony types of movies.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_02]: Most of the times our leads have a daughter.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: When I started to think about that, it's because our dad and I were like, why get he save himself?
- 7:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, right.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_02]: They just become superheroes, basically.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know, sometimes literally.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes literally.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and our first movie that we're going to discuss, that we're going to reflect upon, that we're going to go show for will be Air Force One.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_03]: Man, I hadn't seen Air Force One in a minute.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, before we watched it.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_03]: I think I was still having it home in high school.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_03]: Last time I watched it, this was right.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_03]: Need to.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_02]: The first thing I did when those recommended Air Force One was search it in our two chunks.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: Is it compendum?
- 8:00[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it feels like we've done it before.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: I have to search both of our movies.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: We've absolutely talked about it.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: So it's definitely come up.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_02]: I bet it has just barely missed the cut for some Saturdays in the past to maybe where we chose fugitive instead or something else because it's just so very
- 8:18[SPEAKER_02]: This podcast and so very are interests.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: 1997 is such a special year for movies.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_02]: This was also a con air this year.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: This was also a crazy year this year.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_02]: So, oh wow.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_02]: Nick was having a, it's a great dad or day year.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think my planes.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_02]: Harrison Ford has regularly won these like, they'll do polls around election seasons, presidential election seasons.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_02]: in terms of like, which movie president would you actually elect?
- 8:48[SPEAKER_02]: And it's almost always, it's president number one.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_02]: And the number two president from independent state.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: As of course, you want to have his flying the fighter jet to blow up whatever.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_02]: but I think people like a president that can get there and get their hands dirty and fight.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: Which is kind of how things started for our country, I guess, is like these were more vets that were in there, you know, there's the only country.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_03]: It'd be a pretty good leader, I bet, you know, you're pretty tall and your teeth are wood.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_03]: It should be in charge.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: What I think would be interesting is if Carter could elevate her pitch, Air Force One and then Doge, you could explain why this is the one you picked.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, this is my elevator pitch for Air Force One is there's a uniqueness to there's so many great action movies and a lot of times there's it's usually end of the world type movies to where you have a prominent president figure in that movie, especially if it's action.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_02]: If it's the comedy thing, it's like, wow they shouldn't even be president there.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_02]: Are they really going to get elected?
- 9:50[SPEAKER_02]: But in action, it's like you want somebody there.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: And most of the time you've got
- 9:55[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the prominent real life figures that you have to put in that situation like who's going to be able to take control.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_02]: And in this case, we have Gary Oldman as a Russian Gary Oldman's never Gary Oldman, which is the best thing about Gary Oldman.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: He's absolutely a ditto, and he's a great villain.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_02]: And so he sneaks onto the plane with his crew, obviously there's some, you know, if you ever watched a fast and furious movie, mission of possible movie, any kind of action movie, our terrorists, I mean Hans Gruber was this way.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: There's something somewhere else in the world where they're trying to bargain in a very,
- 10:33[SPEAKER_02]: deadly way to get their way.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_02]: And so he takes over Air Force one, I'm going to announce to him the president is still on.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_02]: And it's not any old president.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: This is a former military, it's Harrison Ford.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's Harrison Ford fighting back by himself, essentially, on a plane full of a, there's a one act vibe to it in a way that the action movies never could be, and that it's such a small set.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, we go back to the ground and we can talk a little bit more about the chaos.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_02]: That is the war room.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_02]: Good lord.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_02]: It's so 1997 and I love it.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, the elevator pitch is Harrison Ford fights back as president.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_02]: What if the president was the hero?
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: One of us, what if the gentleman claimed was the president of the United States?
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: 100%.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: So that's why that's why it's been there, playing.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_03]: That's why I picked it because this is dihard on a plane.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and I know Carter loves villains.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_03]: Carter loves Hans Gruber, Carter also loves Gary Oldman.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_03]: So what if we had die hard on an airplane and instead of Hans Gruber, it was Gary Oldman being completely invisible in this role?
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I say this as a compliment, it might not sound like one, but like this movie is almost as good as die hard.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: And that's a compliment.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's so clear.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, this is nine years after diehard.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_03]: So clearly like a diehard, not gone 100%.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_03]: Just without diehard.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_03]: And I had to go back through, I like went through the full diehard collection on IMDB.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, I could have sworn Gary Oldman was a villain in one of the diehards, but I was thinking of this.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_03]: Because I was like, I'm thinking of Gary Oldman in a diehard and he like gets pushed out of a plane and choked by like the parachute straps.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_03]: Nope, that's this.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_03]: This feels like it is a, in the world, in the world, the same way that that John Wick ballerina movie came out.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_03]: This feels like diehard president.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's like this probably the same universe.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_01]: Both.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: I realized this last night watching our second movie.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: Both movies we have chosen have a 10 out of 10 airborne death scene for the main villain.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, very, very much so I didn't put that together until watching movie number two, but the fact that both of these movies end with like a mid-air iconic death is pretty awesome.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_02]: You know what this made me think of?
- 12:53[SPEAKER_02]: It was Harrison Ford, especially with Star Wars, was kind of disguised as
- 13:00[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, the reason he feels so McLean to me is that he doesn't necessarily the looks at first.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_02]: Like if we didn't know who Bruce Willis was, or we didn't know who Harrison Ford was, it's like they're probably not the action star.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_02]: Our Schwarzenegger.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Stallone, exactly.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_02]: All these people, and Harrison was doing it, you know, well, before diehard.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_02]: It was just kind of
- 13:22[SPEAKER_02]: Blockbuster and disguised as, you know, merch heavy, you know, it's idiot of Jones.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's, it's Han Solo.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_02]: And then you just kind of realize how perfect this is.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_02]: And again, I think fugitive happened before this.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_02]: This was in 1997.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_02]: Harrison Ford was about to take quite a hiatus.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_02]: from good movie making.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_02]: Air Force One was an end of an era for him and then he would come back eventually.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_02]: I remember when I was watching this, I was like, man, he felt old in 1997.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_02]: He felt like a president.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_02]: We're not gonna put...
- 13:54[SPEAKER_02]: some 20s like if we try to do like a Chris Pratt is president and just completely is president.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just incredible.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but what are my favorite things to read about in terms of the trivia about this movie was the relationship between our leads between Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: the director Wolfgang Peterson called it Air Force Fund because these guys were just a blast.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_02]: It was like really the most fun I've ever had, making them cool.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: Because they were just goofy, they knew how to turn it on and then they would just be like as soon as cut, they're just wrestling around and there would be these moments where they would just,
- 14:33[SPEAKER_02]: Break character for the sake of a joke.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_02]: We're talking about too incredibly.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, movie stars are charismatic.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_02]: But Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford, and the same, yeah, has got to be pretty special.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's electric, I think.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: Because there's a moment too, Gary Oldman is younger than Ford and had grown up, you know, he'd seen, I mean Ford's an icon.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_02]: And there's a point to where he's just beaten the heck out of him in one of their big fight scenes.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, I can't believe that I'm beating a shit of Han Solo right now.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: Like he was still having this point.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_02]: Like I can't even, I can't believe this is happening.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_02]: But it has, man, one of my favorite things, a good action movie.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot that needs to not make sense to be quite honest.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_02]: There's two different kinds of good action movies.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: Like the top-kin America of it all is like, wow, these are these real plays.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, if there's people like this that probably exist, right?
- 15:25[SPEAKER_01]: But in the situation of like, are we really
- 15:29[SPEAKER_02]: It was too easy for our villains to get on this planet.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_02]: Are we serious?
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like, right after what has just happened, right?
- 15:37[SPEAKER_03]: But then you're like, okay, I don't care.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: Sure, you know.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to get on the plane, because that's the same thing for like, Nacatomi Paza has one security guard.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, exactly.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_03]: The thing that got me while I was watching was President Harrison Ford goes, like, whenever he reveals that he wasn't in the escape pod, and he goes back in a situation room, and the secret service is like, what have you been doing?
- 16:00[SPEAKER_03]: He's like, I'm in fine terrorists.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_03]: And then they're like, okay, sounds good.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_03]: Go out and do it more.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_03]: Right, they didn't force it to stay in the room.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_03]: Like, they would ever let a president leave the room.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_03]: And that's it.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you're not telling President Marshall what he can and can't do.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I know.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: You'll need to know that from a start.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's fair.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's fair.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_02]: There's not too many.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_02]: And I think to the reason that it was like, oh, I can't remember his name.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_02]: The guy who was deleted in Independence Day.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_02]: They both have this movie starts with our epic.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_02]: monologue like from the beginning he has this thing that and you're kind of already in because it's Harrison Ford and you're kind of like yeah you know what to do it I'm to love America we're not going to take this like we're not going to negotiate with terrorists you're just already for him first of all something I think is iconic about this movie and it it it's cement it as a movie that deserves
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: Does AirF?
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's as far as you get before the first suggested Google result is does Air Force 1 have an escape pod?
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: If you Google does AirF, that's the auto fill.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: Does Air Force 1 have an escape pod?
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: So many people are like, is that real?
- 17:11[SPEAKER_01]: Does it actually have that?
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: No, by the way.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_03]: It has to come true.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: It has to be real.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think something that I did not appreciate about this movie when I watched it at, you know, 14, that this time I really appreciated.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: The, there's not a bad performance in this entire movie.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, literally every time you talk about it, you're the one this clause gets in on the action, man.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_03]: She's great.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you go.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to the election booth, right?
- 17:38[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to go vote.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_02]: And the ticket is Glenn Close and Harrison for Are you serious?
- 17:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Glenn Close is the feeling.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_02]: The place is so good by the way.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, she's great.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: She's 100%.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: 100%.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, across the board is,
- 17:52[SPEAKER_03]: I will say across the board minus the daughter.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_03]: I did not feel that his daughter was great.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I thought she was great.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_03]: I thought she was great.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: For the friend, 90's child actor, I thought she did a pretty good job.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, don't.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think so.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think so.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think so.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think so.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think so.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think so.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_02]: Fangirling or poopoing on movies, it's like, let's dig a little deeper and look at the trivia and the cost and how they made it.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure if Jordan knows that you know, I was a part of the character.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_02]: He would take it initially to do the soundtrack for Air Force One.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't look up.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: I look up IMDB trivia for every movie I watch unless it's for the podcast.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_01]: Because I assume you do are going to do it.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_02]: We absolutely are.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_02]: And we nerd it out and I called him to give him the news.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_02]: Because I was like, please tell me you haven't looked it up.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_02]: The soundtrack for this movie originally was supposed to be Randy Newman.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_02]: Jordan, I'm not done.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_02]: Jordan, I'm not done.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: Wait, they said no, ultimately.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_02]: And he was like, fine, I'm out because the thing, what he had created was too serious.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_02]: Was too scary.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_02]: Too scary.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_02]: So what happens is Jordan?
- 19:24[SPEAKER_02]: much of the soul of that soundtrack would show up for Randy Newman in Toy Story 3 when the whole cruise about to die.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_02]: That scene that gripped, generated an entire generation that grew up with those toys, including me.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: That scene, whether in that furnace about to become magma, I contact with each other.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_02]: Here's our final days.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_02]: It was like 80% of the theme of what Air Force
- 19:53[SPEAKER_02]: that's unbelievable.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_02]: I cannot believe this, dude.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_02]: Chelsea and I are going through the toy story movies because we're going to go see Toy Story 5.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a super, I mean, like, soul punch, got punch, heart punch of like, yeah.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_02]: This is actually, like, I'm going through, what, it's like, this is, I was a kid.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_02]: You know, in 1990's, wait, 1995 was Toy Story?
- 20:20[SPEAKER_02]: I can't remember anything, so I can't remember anything.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_02]: Sure, so Andy's a little bit older me than me at that time, but I'm kinda getting hit at the right time with this stuff.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_02]: And so now, from what I understand in Twistery five and he's a parent, okay, I do whatever But we've been going through that and so it's you know Clearly, yeah, we'll go sailing and so I'm just like my head is just I have I have Musicalized I I'm Randy Newman.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_02]: I clearly I don't think he would be singing I don't think we would have heard voice in an air force one soundtrack
- 20:56[SPEAKER_02]: You're not trapped on this plane with you.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not in a hurry.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just rushing.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, it's like my garden.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_02]: It just, I can't believe it.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_02]: I can't believe it.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I thought of, go ahead.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: I was just going to say, can we hit some highlights real quick?
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, is that we simply must talk about very quickly.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think the fact that they pulled off, it really, I couldn't get over.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_02]: And again, it's the Nectomy Plaza of it all.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_02]: But in terms of scaling it, it is smaller than a massive skyscraper building.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_02]: So pulling off all of our action,
- 21:38[SPEAKER_02]: in this and they kind of in an airplane they do such a smart thing of early on when we're getting the tour from our country bumpkin you know whoever she is chief of staff I don't I don't I don't really know what her role is who's walking us through and showing all the Russians here's all the press secretary I think press secretary here's all the security and here's all the here's the cockpit and that door is going to lock and all that kind of stuff brilliant and I couldn't help but think to as like a little one shot
- 22:04[SPEAKER_02]: What a fun little like six hour video game this would be.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, to navigate that, you know, the whole classic like distractions get the, I know Jordan, you're playing a game like that, probably right now, but a bit a touch espionage and trying not to get caught and that kind of stuff.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_02]: But I just thought the set was brilliant.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was so fun and easy to navigate.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_02]: Wonderful.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: It needs to be simple, dude.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: a movie like this like a die hard like an air force one anything where it's like guy against impossible odds.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think I've realized that claustrophobia is such a but not necessarily claustrophobia but like tight quarters are very important because the the way to sort of turn the tide when it's one versus twelve or one versus six or whatever is to say.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, but if I can force you to 1v1 me, you know, like that sort of the general idea is like, you can also, you know, once.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, on the flip side to keep this themed about me.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_02]: Alien is that how impossible to say this to defeat the xenomorph.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because you're like, well, I can't.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_02]: What are we going to do?
- 23:06[SPEAKER_02]: We can't just all.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_02]: Is it really?
- 23:09[SPEAKER_03]: is Alien Reverse, diehard, bunch of us versus this one bad dude.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_02]: Honestly, yeah, basically.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think in addition to obviously the final death, which is unbelievable, so good, dude.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: The, I think maybe my favorite scene, I have two favorite moments from Harrison Ford.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: One is his acting and one is just the writing of the moment.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: So I love when he looks at the milk carton and sees the leak.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: and they trust the audience to put together what his brain has done when he makes that phone call.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: They don't have to be like, the milk is leaking from the cardinal of milk.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: That could be just exactly what we do with the gasoline.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like he doesn't have to connect the dots like I feel like our lesser movie would do.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: We just we understand it.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I think his his moment has faced when he's comprehending what he's about to do is really fun.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he does a great job there.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: But I think maybe my favorite moment in the movie.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: is win Gary Oldman and his like number two coming out from the basement and nod at the other Russian terrorist and then we pan the camera and see that he's being held at gunpoint by President Marshall
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: that because we as the audience are like, how did this guy survive fighting the president down under a meet this plane?
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: And then we realized he basically didn't, but he's now being held hostage.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: And that moment is such a fun, that's, it feels like the first time that President Marshall has the upper hand is in that moment, and that's such a cool feeling of like, oh, he's about to do it.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_01]: And that's exciting.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's gonna be my call out of like,
- 24:40[SPEAKER_03]: The president is written like Dr. Richard Kimball or like Indiana Jones, where it's like, he is very resourceful, but he is, he almost never has the upper hand.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 24:54[SPEAKER_03]: Like, he is able to improvise, but his knowledge is limited, like with satellite phone.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_03]: I have no idea how to use this thing and I use it and then it doesn't work, so I'm just going to have to guess and hope.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_03]: Which is something that makes this feel a lot like die hard, too, because John McLean doesn't often have the upper hand and I think
- 25:10[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know, it's interesting comparing that to like the dominant type of action film right now, which is just like high competence heroes, like Topgood Maverick is a realistic version of that.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_03]: John Wick would be an unrealistic version of that, which is like a bunch of kicks so good that they're, yeah, exactly.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_03]: Just interesting.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_03]: I don't I don't know.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_03]: I would love to see the like kind of reluctant like I hope this works.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_03]: Kind of and that feels so comedy.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_02]: Like if it happens now, it's an action comedy.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_03]: Right exactly.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, that would be great.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: I wonder who would be good at a role like that.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_03]: I think Glen Powell could do it, man.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_03]: I think I was hoping that the running man would be a little bit like that but I was a little disappointed in the running man Yeah, but I think like played played pretty straight like this.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_03]: I think Somebody with that kind of vibe could pull it off.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think so you know some random ones too are like I'll avoid and Kirk has done some action stuff Yeah, but that's high competence.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's high competency.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah No, that's that's true.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like the the era and I hope it comes back the era of like
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: Every man saves the day versus, like, highly trained military assembly of nieces, who's part of a secret assassin about the, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_02]: Those are cool, don't be wrong.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_02]: Don't take, like, it's daughter.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_02]: Don't you know who he is?
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: Those are awesome movies.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: But like, yeah, they're great.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think what makes this movie and diehard special is like, don't even wrong, like, John McLean has some training, we assume.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, President Marshall is former military,
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: they're just dudes.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's what does make it.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: So interesting.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think the small smaller scale to where it's like, you know, die hard.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: There's like what 12.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: Terrace, I think.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_01]: In this movie, there's a man too.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: I feel the smaller scale allows the every man to feel like a larger than life hero.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_01]: When it's not like I'm going against a ball of underground assassins, but when it's just like they're trying to steal an AI that's going to reveal everybody's credit card history.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_03]: Like fast and furious.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_03]: That was going to do.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_02]: I did the end of the commando.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_02]: When it is, it's Schwarzenegger against 200.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_02]: You know?
- 27:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_02]: Also great.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_02]: But also different.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: Before we kind of close the door on Air Force One, I do, I have to say it and I'm very sorry to anybody who doesn't want to hear this.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: I got emotional watching this movie because I was like, damn, we used to think presidents were like this.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, dude.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: There was a moment when I was like to go back and live in a world where somebody said the president is a man of integrity who would fight for the people he loves and be like I believe that instead of like this is a fairy tale right on this like they might as well have been like and also there are dragons, you know what I mean?
- 28:01[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah sure.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_03]: This has only gotten less realistic as time has gone.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_03]: It certainly has.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_02]: A final wax poetic about Great Yieldman.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_02]: I, he is one of the only actors that I never try and think about how I rank his performances, because he has feels so consistent to me.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_02]: It just feels all great.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: And also different.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_01]: He's never had something that they're all like perfect.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_02]: He measured against something else.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_02]: I will say I do prefer him as a villain in hero.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_02]: I have been watching those slow horses, but even for him.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's he's villainous in a way.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_02]: He's an awful person.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but yeah, it's a little bit.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's let's dip back into the bag.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get the old rating system.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: Let's dust it off.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_01]: And let's hit us with the two chunks scientific cinema scale, which is, as we've said, still perfect, never beaten.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if you still remember it.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's muscle memory, but if I stop in the middle, I won't be able to pick it up.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's like the ABCs where it's like your naga started at the top again.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, your eyes go white and you just fully fugue state.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see if I can get there.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: Let's let's dust it off.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_01]: The best thing we could ever say about a movie is own it.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: Don't lend it.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_01]: By that poster.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: The next best thing is buy it as far by rent it and stream it.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: If that is forget it and last, but certainly least the worst thing we could ever say about a movie.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_02]: God, have forced say in us.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_02]: I'll go first.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_02]: I'll buy it.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_02]: I'll go second.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_03]: I'm buying it.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_03]: I'll go third.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going to buy it.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_03]: It makes sense.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_03]: I was worried when I picked this movie, that it would be like, oh, I've only watched this on TV after mowing the yard.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_03]: Right, and it's really not that good, unless you're very sweaty and trying to bring your body temperature down with a nice tea.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_01]: It was great.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_03]: I had a ton of fun watching this.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it is.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, can you believe it?
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: Even if I'm just the two leads that were the good thing about it, it would have been a good stuff.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but, yeah, the worth it.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_02]: Worth a watch, easy watch, pretty fun, easy watch.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's so fun to me when movies like that aren't on a streaming platform.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_02]: that it's like, it's either the Fubu or whatever, the free thing or you rent it.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, to me to be, but no, there's also a Fubu.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_02]: There's also another one, Fubu.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: Is there two or as via, so which is a clothing company?
- 30:28[SPEAKER_03]: Well, we figure that out.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_03]: Fubu lives towards in TV without cable, try it free.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: Go to fubu.com backslash2chunks and we'll delete all of these statements from the episode as we head to shout-outs.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's just me for shout-in-outs since today.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: Me, Jordan, from the podcast, doing shout-in-outs wins.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_01]: Listen, it's very important that you pay close attention to this next part because I'm gonna tell you about Imagine Dungeons.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's our actual play at the ND podcast that we play with some very, very talented, very funny friends and get me pretty close to the end of season two.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: We've already recorded it, so we know what happens, but you don't.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: So now's a pretty good time to catch up and check it out.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think you'll enjoy it because it's a ton of fun.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_01]: Also, we do have a discord that we, uh, we own and operate.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: We chat about books, TV, movies, sports, art, whatever, you know.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: it's in there and make sure you get in, take a look and introduce yourself, make some new friends, maybe, to talk about movies and other things.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_01]: And also, as we come up on time for Carter's child to enter this world, if you know him personally, send some love.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't know, I'm getting discord and send him some love.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's time and it's exciting.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: So make sure we
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: And that's it.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: So, back back to the show.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: We're back.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: Moving number two was selected by me, mostly because I couldn't get it out of my head the moment that I was like, fathered out of movie.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_01]: And it was like all I could think of.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'll be honest.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be transparent.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: It was actually my second choice because my first choice I looked and we had already done.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_01]: I forgot that we had already done the nice guys, which was the first thing that came to my head.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: Man, that's a great move.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_01]: The second thing that came to my head and I couldn't escape it was a little film called Kickass.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_01]: And so, Doge had never seen kick-ass, which I'm very interested in hearing about, but yeah, Carter, could you elevate her pitch?
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: Kick-ass for us.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_02]: Kick-ass is, it came out a great time into movies at a great time.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_02]: It is, I think it's a Georgia Miller.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's a mark, it's mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark, mark,
- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: the lore and the hype of superheroes in a semi-realish kind of world just totally captivated people and they just tried to be superheroes.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_02]: We're not talking about immortality or anything like that, it's just people that.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_02]: want to be a mask, visual aunties.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_02]: And so it is equal parts, like just high school, comedy, type movie, equal parts, super home movie, unique in that way.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: And it is very gross.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_01]: I hadn't seen it since high school, both these movies, I hadn't seen since high school.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: And pretty much the main thing I couldn't get out of my head is how many movies is the coolest character of the
- 33:57[SPEAKER_01]: Right, there aren't many movies where the coolest, most dangerous person in the movie.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_01]: is the daughter in the daddy-daughter relationship.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_01]: And therefore, I just couldn't escape it, decided to watch it.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_01]: Glad I did.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_01]: It had been so long since I watched it.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: I forgot a lot about it.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: And man, that movie is wild.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_03]: It's so wild.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_03]: This is, it's crazy.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_03]: This is based on a comic, creator on comic, written by Mark Miller, who also wrote The Kingsman, The Secret Service Books, same director also adapted those.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_03]: So like,
- 34:30[SPEAKER_03]: For my first watch, knowing that it was Mark Miller and Matthew Vaughn, I knew what vibe to expect going in, but it was way, there was way more like mid-2010s, I guess this was 2010.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_03]: Kind of, 2010's like teen, ranch comedy that I wasn't expecting.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, like super bad elements mixed in.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, for sure.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I think some of those elements,
- 34:53[SPEAKER_01]: Cause me to flinch, there's an arseler, there's a man protecting to be gay, which is a dicey conversation at best.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, those things are certainly products of the time.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, for all that it entails, this is the most 2,010 movie.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_03]: the good and the bad of that particular year.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_03]: This is 2010 boiled down.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_03]: Put it on the stove, I boiled all the water off, and I've made a thick syrup out of 2010.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_03]: And it is pure distilled 2010 flavor.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think one of the special things about kick ass is, you know, the story itself, I'm sure the comic is pretty much one for one of this first movie, I would guess.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 35:37[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I don't think you often get to watch like a superhero or action movie through the lens of the least talented person in the cast, not the not the acting, but like kickass.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: Dave Lizusky is in over his head completely and I think at no point is it ever more clear what the point of the story is then the final fight where hit girl has decided to take on
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: Frank, the main villain, and kick ass is basically slap fighting, play fighting, doork fighting, with red mist played by Christopher men's plus, who is
- 36:15[SPEAKER_01]: funny as always, of course, but like the main hero he never improves at all.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: He's not any better not fighting.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_01]: The only thing he's better at is being brave.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's like the only thing learns to do better.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_02]: What if Peter Parker never got bit?
- 36:32[SPEAKER_02]: Right, you know, kind of situation and still pursued hero them.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_02]: And it's fine.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_02]: They give us a, with just how early they give us him just being destroyed.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, stabbed in the gut immediately hit by a car.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_02]: And so he does, if anything, they're like, okay, what if it's borderline animatium exoskeleton or, or, right.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_02]: so that he can just take a hit.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_02]: Like what if someone who has a ton of heart didn't feel pain as much, you know, and to what extent are they willing to go?
- 37:04[SPEAKER_02]: To make it, I don't know.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't feel like it's the kind of something to make it more realistic because it's not, it's still, even though it's not actual superheroes, there's so much about it that's not realistic.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_02]: And so, but it's still a fun twist.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_02]: It really has to take it on.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_02]: Very much.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: I also think there is something fun, and I wish I had like a full list of all of the moments,
- 37:27[SPEAKER_01]: Top three uses of bad reputation.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: I would probably say like maybe number one for me, but that song has been used in so many fun ways.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_01]: I would love like just a 30 minute compilation of like here's all the action scenes or like cool moments and all the bad reputation you don't have to set to this song, yeah.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_01]: But it's such a fun use and we'll probably jump all over the place, but like the final fight of hit girl taking out, you know, 12 henchmen.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: and then fighting Frank, like that feels like what the movie was building to the entire time.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like it's the promise that the movie makes early on when we're first introduced to her.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and I think the scene, Carter, I would love to know your thoughts on the very first scene between Big Daddy and Hitler, standing like the reservoir.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it was so good, because I'm also,
- 38:27[SPEAKER_02]: my story to other stories, I'm just sure, always kind of like that.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_02]: So it's just funny to see a dad just standing as 12 year old, you know, 20 yards away just shooting her in the chest.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: But what a funny introduction.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just like, we haven't even said his name yet, but it's like classic Nick Cage.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_03]: Nick Cage, man, what a absolute delight.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_03]: What a funny thing to say.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_02]: Format just for me, maybe?
- 38:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, dude, to say child.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_02]: the way I don't know where he's from.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know where he's from.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_02]: And he clearly wanted to do an Adam West situation.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_03]: I think that was it, yeah.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_02]: When he's in mask.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_02]: But at this point, you know, the guy, anytime he shows up, you're like, okay, like let's just spin.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_02]: I think we said he didn't we call him like a D100.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_02]: Like it does happen.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yeah.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_02]: Like he's chaos magic, he's wild magic, he's wild magic, and it's just, it's so funny.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, their introduction, because I do think it's pretty brilliant to have this.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like, here's someone who's aspiring and is not even close to being good enough.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_02]: But then what does it look like for the legitimate obsession, life built around this situation, to the extent that's like you were born maybe with a grenade in your hand.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_02]: And now, right, you know, no.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_02]: This was a hard movie to get off the ground because so many studios were like either you make hit girl 19 or you remove her from the movie.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_02]: We cannot have interesting.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_02]: A rated R movie and you can bleak me out.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_02]: You need to bleak me out for this, but a 12 year old girl saying.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_02]: We just can't.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_01]: Even in 2010.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_02]: When everything is on the table, you're like, yeah, but this is a child and Chloe Maretz and her interviews would be like, she would refer to this movie as kickbutt.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_02]: That's how good of a girl she's like, I just didn't.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_02]: But it was her mother who had read the comic book and it just wasn't hitting for hit girl.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_02]: And she was like, I need you to go ahead and let my daughter say,
- 40:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like she's gonna so funny.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_02]: We've got to, she's got to go in or the whole point of that character is completely lost.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_02]: And to be honest, this movie's not great without her.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_02]: Like you've got to- Oh, not at all.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_02]: It just, it stands out as on its own.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_02]: We still don't see that much anymore.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_02]: Even in movies like Zombieland,
- 40:52[SPEAKER_02]: We're just kind of a long, I mean, they've just got guns and it's against zombies.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's one thing to kill the undead.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_02]: It's another thing to just walk into a place where maybe half the people were innocent because Kika has to try to threaten a guy to not talk to this girl anymore that he's interested in and then just kill everyone and love it.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_02]: Like a blood thirsty.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_02]: 12 or 13 year old, just unbelievable.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_02]: This movie felt a lot like bullet train in a great way.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, right.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's the, yeah, the ATJ it all.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_02]: What a, what a baby he is in this in 2010, Aaron Taylor Johnson.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm just sitting there watching him in Mark Strong and be like, these guys are so British.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_02]: These guys are so British.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_02]: And they're being so very American.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think that Martin J's accent is great.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think that's so good.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_03]: American sounds like pretty, exactly.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly like Tom Holland's Peter Parker.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he does, you'd, yeah.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_02]: And changing his pitch too as well.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_02]: Like he's he's doing a lot with his voice.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_02]: It's not just, you know, the region.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_02]: But I was looking at Mark Strong's credits.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_02]: and reading trivia about him.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_02]: And he has done more than a dozen roles where he's either some like underground espionage type.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_02]: Like this is what feels like he's made for.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_02]: He's so perfect.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_02]: As he's one of the best people to chew in.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, absolutely.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_02]: And it's so funny to like talk about a Gary Oldman, who is just...
- 42:21[SPEAKER_02]: anything.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_02]: He's so different all the time.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_02]: And there's still bits of him in some of the characters, but it's hard to draw some through lines outside of just the name on the back of the chair.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_02]: But with Mark Strong, it's just like, oh, I'm just like, what a relief.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_02]: It's like when you are at a party, you're going to a party and you weren't sure who all was going to be there, but then I like see you guys are there.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, cool.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_02]: In this in this group of 30,
- 42:43[SPEAKER_02]: Jordan, dojo here, I'm good.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's what Mark Strong feels like.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_01]: And he'll be like this.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_01]: For sure.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, I know he will be reliable.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to do so well.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_02]: Very much.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_02]: And this character specifically was really fun.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_02]: I really liked, agreed, how all over the place this was.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_02]: I liked the little minor things that they did like with his mouth and his eyes and his hair.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_02]: It was, it was, uh, so very Mark Strong performance but not it felt a little bit unique too, which was really fun.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_01]: my favorite moment for him.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's not necessarily like a big acting moment, but my favorite moment for him in the entire movie is when the big bodyguard comes back after hit girl kills all those dudes and Mark's strong is like, is everything okay?
- 43:26[SPEAKER_01]: And he's the bodyguard just like, yeah, it's fine.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_01]: And he just slowly picks up the bazooka.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_01]: Mark's strong just gives him like a, yeah, go ahead and do it again.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_01]: Also a really fun use of like very specifically like check-offs gun in this movie like you know, it's really more of an act to bazooka reveal than an act one bazooka reveal but still we get the promise of the bazooka like four times before it's actually used and then when it's used and it's so sad it's fine.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, the use of the bazooka is so sad as fun.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_01]: This isn't to have it carried through the air versus just
- 44:11[SPEAKER_02]: This movie and what a great death, it's such a good death.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_02]: And such a great, they do the camera work, the cinematography made this so fun.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_02]: It made a comic book, you know, not as very much.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_02]: Not as much as like a Scott Pilgrim, even though we do reference Scott Pilgrim.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_02]: In this movie, we reference a lot of comic books, which is so fun.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_02]: But even when we have a lot of big daddy fighting in the way that when explosions happen, it shakes the camera a little bit.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: Man, it's so good.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_02]: The fact that it's kind of like a first person shooter when the girl has night or night vision goggles on, I was looking at Chloe Maretz credits and like two and again, she's also a great actress kickasses in 2010 and that kind of like launches her.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_02]: I think a little bit more because before that, she's like a voice actor on Bolt, just two years before that was on my friend's Tigger and Poo.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_02]: And then she goes and does hit girl.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_02]: That's the point, right?
- 45:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's just, it's nuts.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_02]: She does kick-ass and diary of a Wimpy kid in the same year.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_01]: So, one of my favorite performances from her is 30 Rock.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_01]: She's in a full episode of 30 Rock,
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: Doge, I'm curious, having never watched it, you know, obviously we've discussed it for a little bit of a product of its time in some ways, but like I'm assuming you didn't really know hardly anything about the actual story going in what was so I watched it with Kelly who had never seen it before either.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I got sort of a firsthand lens into what it's like to watch it for the first time.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_01]: Kelly spoiler loved it.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_01]: She was like not expecting anything and I think it was a ton of fun for her.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_01]: What was your experience like watching this, you know, 32 first time watching?
- 46:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I loved it.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_03]: That was awesome.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_03]: I thought it really, it did something that I feel is sort of rare because like it could be just a full send up of
- 46:18[SPEAKER_03]: of superheroes like the kind of like early like Ditko era Spider-Man stuff that's like
- 46:24[SPEAKER_03]: really soap opera and every villain is somebody who Peter knows personally.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_03]: Like it clearly was inspired by that and sort of taking the piss out of that a little bit.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_03]: But it was also like genuine and heartfelt.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_03]: Like there's the the first time kick ass save somebody when he's like kneeling over that guy.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_03]: He's like, what's wrong with me?
- 46:45[SPEAKER_03]: What's wrong with you guys?
- 46:46[SPEAKER_03]: Watching three people beat a guy up.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_03]: What are you doing?
- 46:49[SPEAKER_03]: It was like genuinely it worked like on an emotional level.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_03]: It was earnest in a way that was really really refreshing.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm with you there.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I loved it.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_01]: It was great.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_01]: Also Evan Peters is a Clark Duncan.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_01]: Is that his name?
- 47:04[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, you.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_02]: Let me look.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_03]: I know the answer.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_03]: I know the answer.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_01]: Clark Duke Clark Duke.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_01]: Evan Peters and Clark Duke are really fun as sort of the like,
- 47:18[SPEAKER_01]: best for it.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think the scene where it's sort of a send up of the classic trope, but like, the scene where Clark is like, hey, yeah.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_01]: Where's Dave?
- 47:32[SPEAKER_01]: Have you ever noticed that and then haven't been here's just completely interrupt or no, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: What's her face is friend interrupts like yeah he's with Molly or whatever her name is, but that that moment is so fun, but yeah, I think the friends are really fun in this movie as well, and I think you see some of what later becomes sort of like a cult following for Evan Peters, I think you see some of that here.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah, he got like a muse for Ryan Murphy and all those shows.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's got all the horror stories and stuff.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, the Evan Peters moment to where his character is like, I think I'm in love with her after they show, you know, hit girl takes over the live broadcast or whatever.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, dude, she's 12.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, I was saying, I'll save myself for her.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'll save myself for her.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty good.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, pretty funny.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_01]: Don't do that, by the way.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_01]: Don't death and don't do it.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: Don't do it.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: Don't do that.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_01]: Big time, don't.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_01]: Big time, don't.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_01]: Funny movie joke, not funny real life.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: Don't do that.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: Not funny real life joke.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_02]: Um, Nick Cage dying and being burned.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody, nobody gets burned alive.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_02]: Like Nicholas Cage.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_02]: Like that's so true.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_02]: what what weird like when he's like giving a herd the tips as to what to do next in her killing spree and he's screaming it.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't really understand what he was saying didn't catch any of it.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_02]: I imagine being in production like what director tells him in those moments be like, hey, can you not see it a little more?
- 49:02[SPEAKER_02]: Can you keep that right again?
- 49:03[SPEAKER_03]: Use your teeth and tongue
- 49:08[SPEAKER_02]: No, we don't care at all.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_02]: What do we say, like, hey, Pollock, can you might do a little bit more of a splatter?
- 49:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like, not so much splatter, right corner here with this color?
- 49:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what, Dolly, what if you just did a regular clock?
- 49:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, what are we doing?
- 49:20[SPEAKER_02]: Why are we melting this?
- 49:22[SPEAKER_02]: That just let the guy do it again.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_02]: You, like, I feel like he might be undirectable.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's true.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think this movie to me, not that I've, I've already been on the full journey that I think you have to go through with Nick Cage, where you see a national treasure or you see Connie, you see something and you're like, he's a good actor.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: And then you watch more of him and you're like, he's not a good actor and then final watch enough when you're like, he's an amazing actor.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's finally been on that full journey with Nick Cage to where like watching this movie, I wasn't like, what a weirdo.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_01]: I was just like, what a weirdo.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 50:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think you guys,
- 50:09[SPEAKER_01]: Have y'all watched his Spider-Man show yet?
- 50:11[SPEAKER_03]: No, no, no, no, that was a good.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_03]: I've heard his rules.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, he's amazing in it.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_02]: He feels like he acts for himself and no one knows it.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_02]: 100%.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think he cares what he's fun, man.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_02]: I think if he saw that you laughed at him burning to death in a moment that's supposed to be more heartfelt with his daughter.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't, I don't think he cares.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_02]: I came in, I did the thing what's next is what he feels like.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_01]: man.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_01]: It really is the one of the truest jokes from community is the Nick Clay Nick Cage class that Abed takes.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_01]: So brilliant.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_01]: Or no, it's not the Nick Cage class.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_01]: He does a report or something on Nick.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_01]: He teach whatever.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_03]: He's preserved.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_01]: It is.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's so true.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_01]: Is he brilliant?
- 51:02[SPEAKER_01]: I just always think of.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_03]: I just think of Danny Pooody in that scene doing naked.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'm a sexy cat.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_03]: That's just the line that sticks to my head from that.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_03]: That scene.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_01]: But I suppose, unless maybe if everybody wants to give a quick, farly, if there's anything in your head that's standing out from the movie, we can do that.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think it feels a little obvious,
- 51:35[SPEAKER_01]: Gaddling gun on a jetpack is pretty cool, unbelievably with Elvis in the back, you know, Elvis's back.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's truth is marching.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's from the comeback special, right?
- 51:49[SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_03]: White jumpsuit come back special.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_03]: So it's sweating like crazy.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_03]: the sweatiest man you can imagine.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_02]: The sweatiest man.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_02]: I think what's so, I love when movies like this are so quick and our scripts are moving so fast.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_02]: And there is a chorus of 25 to 30 people that are really funny.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_02]: All of the really small characters, the arguments early on when we're about to chop a guy's pinky off.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, we're trying to say whether it's Superman or Batman, a guy's correcting him, because he's got his, you know,
- 52:22[SPEAKER_02]: We're questioning the guy, but we didn't think about how quickly this pressurized of and thing, whatever this is, was going to pop and shoot.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you know, like you've just done an unshalant about death in this movie was really funny.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, very much.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_03]: It did surprise me how much Nicholas Cage looked like Batman, because they were like, okay, there's like Batman came out of this.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_03]: And it's like, oh, no, he's actually dressed back.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_01]: She and you and he is dressed like Batman.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_02]: And then the, uh, basically the comic book back telling.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_02]: The, the story.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_02]: That was awesome.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_02]: What happened to mom?
- 52:57[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, that's fun.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_01]: The editing's really fun in this whole movie.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's, it's, I agree.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_01]: It tiptoes up to Scott Pilgrim, a couple of
- 53:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I think we got inspired after watching Kikas, we were like, let's just roll it, let's watch Kingsman now.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_01]: And the Kingsman is a perfection of this formula for Matthew Vaughn.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think that he came after, right?
- 53:21[SPEAKER_01]: A couple years after?
- 53:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, the editing and sort of the tongue and cheek.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's serious, but it's also not sort of feeling that Kikas has is very present.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_01]: Kingsman, I think you could feel it.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, let's rate it, scientific cinema scale, perfect follows all that stuff.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_02]: Best thing we can ever say about a movie is on it, don't lend it.
- 53:41[SPEAKER_01]: Bye, that's true, the next best thing is buy it.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_01]: Let's follow if I rent it and then stream it.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_01]: After that is forget it and last but certainly, the worst thing we could ever say about a movie.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_01]: God, have forsaken us.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to rent it.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think it's a high rent for me.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_02]: I think it hasn't,
- 54:03[SPEAKER_02]: aged well in some of the inappropriate things that it does and it definitely stains the watch a little bit for me.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_02]: But it is a lot of fun.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_02]: I never watched the sequel.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's got Jim Carrey.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_01]: So I never did either.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe it wants to give that a look.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_01]: But it's a different director.
- 54:21[SPEAKER_01]: So it doesn't, yeah, it did not do it.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's nearly as good.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_02]: And even this did not do well.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_02]: It was like a 30 million other movie that made 95 million worldwide.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_02]: So, but I rent it.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_01]: I also rent kick-ass.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's, uh, it's, I think it's a movie that doesn't hit as well if you haven't been submerged in superhero culture prior.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_01]: Um, sort of in the same way that like Watchman hits differently.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_01]: If you come in with preconceived notions about what the genre should be.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like yeah.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_01]: Watchman's great.
- 54:52[SPEAKER_01]: Better if you have
- 54:54[SPEAKER_01]: your expectations defied.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think kick-ass fits that same mold where it's like, good movie better if you have expectations going in and it's different from that than it's yeah part of the fun is the surprise and I agree you know some of the stuff I think we're throwing around words that I wouldn't use today especially in the context that they're being used but I'm willing to not excuse but acknowledge that it's a product of the time but it
- 55:22[SPEAKER_01]: I do think the heart of the movie is really good, and I think that it's pretty fun as well.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, it's a pretty easy rent for me.
- 55:30[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_03]: Man, it's a rent for me, too.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_03]: Bye-bye, bye, rent, rent, rent, rent.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_03]: We're on the same page about these movies.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_03]: And that's the power of death.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_03]: That's the power of death.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_03]: That all, that's bring us together.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I've always, that's bring us together.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_03]: And I've always said that.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_03]: And I believe that.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's beautiful.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_01]: Well, everybody, this will be Carter's last one for a little bit.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to take a break to do some very important fathering.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, he's going to train his child in the way that's violence.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_01]: But we will Carter consider this the end of a Marvel movie.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_01]: Carter will return.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_01]: He's just taking a little break to do more important things, but Dosh and I will still be around, maybe with a friend or two, throughout the next few months.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Carter's on break, but we are going to adjust our release schedule.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_01]: We'll put this in the discord at some point as well.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_01]: But if you only listen, you're not in the discord, just so you're aware we're going to go to every other week for a little bit just because on the off chance it's just Dosh and I, we don't want you to have to listen to only the two of us every single.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_01]: week.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to try and share schedule these fair four guests and easier on your sweet delicate little ears, but have no fear Carter will return to chunks is still here and we will be I think he death of the universe, but we'll see.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's the contract that we signed with that elder demon.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_03]: We can be friends for our whole lives, but we have to record it.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_01]: I thought, okay, you're saying elder demon.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking Keibler elf, so that explains why I was so willing to sign.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to, maybe he kind of glam, he glamored your eyes a little bit.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_01]: Take it and look.
- 57:08[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I had some big elf, I'd just like to see if I'm being honest with you.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_03]: Well.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's a little pop.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_03]: That usually we, usually we say something like to end today's episode.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I forgot about that.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, it's been so long.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_01]: Since we've recorded, uh, to end today's episode, I'd like for each of us to say our name.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_01]: And which movie we think we could survive to the end of?
- 57:38[SPEAKER_01]: Of these two films.
- 57:40[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, these two.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_03]: Gotcha.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_01]: For just in general, for two, yeah, we need to figure life a Walter MIDI.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_01]: For two chunks in a hunt, I'm picking kick-ass because I'm just not getting involved in it.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just gonna be a regular person.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty much the entire conflict only exists if you're wearing a costume.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_01]: So I just won't do that.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_01]: Bird.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_01]: Two chunks of junk.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_03]: I'm doge.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_03]: I lived through Air Force One.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_03]: I was alive on the earth at this time.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not Russian and I'm not one of the presidents, friends.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_03]: I was at my house.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_03]: I was a baby.
- 58:12[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_03]: We both sort of took the easy way out of this question.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to Air Force One, I'm Carter.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm going to Air Force One, and I'll put myself in the war room.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_02]: Because, okay, yeah.
- 58:23[SPEAKER_02]: I specifically want to be the character that's like, who cares?
- 58:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's just 50 people on a plane, blow it up.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care that there's children up there.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care that his wife is up there and why he'll be the president and still there.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_02]: We just won't, we're not gonna free this bad Russian guy because that would be catastrophic for the world.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_02]: Just blow up Air Force One.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_03]: Just hey, United States military, just shoot Air Force one out of the sky, you know, a normal suggestion.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_02]: It's simple.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_02]: I realize we're on 35 minutes of runtime in this movie.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_02]: Why not make it up 45 minute movie?
- 58:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's good out.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's good out.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's good out.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's good.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's good.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's good.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's good.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's good.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's good.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's good.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's good.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_02]: It's
- 59:12[SPEAKER_02]: Pretty incredible.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_02]: Cool movie.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_02]: Good night.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_02]: That was, that's not me.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's why I did not choose that role.
