- 0:04Speaker 1: Todd bother boy Buster Only tweeted this in the morning
- 0:07Speaker 1: from a high ranking executive on the Tigers strategy regarding
- 0:10Speaker 1: Trek Scooble, they could wait and be pretty confident they'll
- 0:14Speaker 1: get as much in trade return at the deadline next
- 0:16Speaker 1: summer as they would now, assuming there's no injury. He's
- 0:18Speaker 1: got that kind of impact. Now, Buster added, how it
- 0:22Speaker 1: depends where the Tigers are around that time period. And
- 0:26Speaker 1: that's the obvious one here is people can say the
- 0:29Speaker 1: value is going to be similar. I agree with that.
- 0:32Speaker 1: If the Tigers were going to trade him at the deadline,
- 0:34Speaker 1: I think he would hold just as much value because
- 0:36Speaker 1: he'd be going to a contender for the stretch run
- 0:38Speaker 1: and he could be the difference between a team winning
- 0:40Speaker 1: a World Series and not. But if you're Detroit and
- 0:44Speaker 1: you're sniffing playoff range, you're gonna trade him. That's the thing.
- 0:50Speaker 1: If you're moving him, it's got to be now. Chances
- 0:53Speaker 1: are the Tigers are going to be contenders this season
- 0:56Speaker 1: for a playoff spot.
- 0:57Speaker 2: You can't trade him.
- 0:58Speaker 1: If you're holding a wild card, you're going to eight
- 1:00Speaker 1: Trek's scouble down the stretch.
- 1:02Speaker 3: No, not at all. And like they trade him. It's
- 1:07Speaker 3: pretty much over for them.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Right, but also not just for them in their season.
- 1:12Speaker 1: What about for your fans? Hey, guys, we rebuilt for
- 1:15Speaker 1: a while, We've had a nice little two year run
- 1:17Speaker 1: of the postseason. Now we're in position for a playoff
- 1:20Speaker 1: spot again. Who rugged you trading Scooble. That doesn't make
- 1:24Speaker 1: any sense.
- 1:25Speaker 2: You can't do that.
- 1:28Speaker 4: It's a hard decision you have to do.
- 1:29Speaker 1: If you're gonna do it, you have to do it
- 1:31Speaker 1: in the off season. If you're if you're a team
- 1:33Speaker 1: that's wishy washy, or you might not be good, you
- 1:35Speaker 1: can wait. They can't wait. They're gonna be good.
- 1:37Speaker 3: So yeah, I would say they're gonna be one of
- 1:39Speaker 3: those better teams next year. So yes, of course you're
- 1:42Speaker 3: not gonna trade them if they're have in a playoff
- 1:46Speaker 3: hunt or or one of the better teams in the division, whatever,
- 1:49Speaker 3: what have you. If they're gonna be in the playoffs,
- 1:51Speaker 3: it's like, oh, shoot, maybe we should have traded on them.
- 1:55Speaker 3: I mean, the school, but like that much will come back.
- 1:57Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:58Speaker 3: I don't I don't see that. But yeah, I think
- 2:00Speaker 3: Buster has has a point here. It's now would probably
- 2:04Speaker 3: be the best time to do it.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Yeah, if you're going to do it.
- 2:06Speaker 4: If you're going to do it.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Otherwise, here's the thing, Kratz, you're just holding on to
- 2:12Speaker 1: him and you're getting the compensation pick after the season
- 2:15Speaker 1: ends if you guys don't come to terms on money,
- 2:17Speaker 1: which he's definitely going to hit free agency if he
- 2:19Speaker 1: stays with the Tigers.
- 2:21Speaker 2: And it's funny we're talking about him.
- 2:22Speaker 1: He's going to join us in like forty five minutes
- 2:26Speaker 1: or less actually on the show. So we'll get into
- 2:29Speaker 1: a little bit of this. Excited to have Trek join
- 2:32Speaker 1: us on the show. We've talked to him multiple times
- 2:35Speaker 1: here on FT and also, oh, we have a little
- 2:37Speaker 1: something prepared for him before we introduce him. Okay, live
- 2:51Speaker 1: studio audience today. Wow, Trek scooble back to backside, young
- 2:54Speaker 1: award winner joining us right now.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Happy birthday man, thanks for joining us.
- 2:58Speaker 5: How you doing I'm doing well, Thank you, thank you.
- 3:01Speaker 5: Birthdays aren't cool anymore, you know, they're not really cool,
- 3:04Speaker 5: especially in this sport. You don't want to get older,
- 3:08Speaker 5: Not true, Not true when.
- 3:10Speaker 3: You're like thirty, forty fifty. Now, when you hit the
- 3:13Speaker 3: thirty range, the zeros are what counts am I.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Do you like the zeros?
- 3:16Speaker 4: I don't. I don't want the zeros.
- 3:18Speaker 3: But when the zero hits after after you know, twenties,
- 3:22Speaker 3: when it hits thirty, then after that until it hits
- 3:24Speaker 3: another zero. But I just turned whit didn't turn? I
- 3:27Speaker 3: turned thirty nine last year. It's like thirty nine. Who
- 3:30Speaker 3: cares about thirty nine?
- 3:31Speaker 1: Well that you're talking to twenty nine right here? But okay,
- 3:35Speaker 1: any plans, No, I feel like.
- 3:38Speaker 5: I've been doing a lot recently, so probably just gonna
- 3:42Speaker 5: make dinner at home. I think my wife will make
- 3:46Speaker 5: some tacos or something like that and maybe open a
- 3:49Speaker 5: bottle of wine. That's it cool?
- 3:51Speaker 6: Is that your go to? Does she does she ask you?
- 3:54Speaker 4: Do?
- 3:54Speaker 6: I feel like wives, wives, like they pretty much do
- 3:57Speaker 6: so much for you during the season that when it's
- 3:59Speaker 6: the off season, it's like, alright, bro, like relax, Like
- 4:03Speaker 6: we're gonna go out. Like does she ask you what
- 4:05Speaker 6: you want for your birthday?
- 4:07Speaker 5: She did, and I kind of gave her a like, Hey,
- 4:10Speaker 5: I'm kind of tired of let's just hang out at
- 4:12Speaker 5: home and getting bed early. You know, I feel like
- 4:15Speaker 5: I've been traveling and doing stuff and let's just hang out,
- 4:20Speaker 5: make dinner at home and do it that way.
- 4:23Speaker 6: Oh, go ahead, No, No, is it tiring? Like you're
- 4:28Speaker 6: the Sion? You want to Sion again? Obviously congratulations, but
- 4:32Speaker 6: is it tiring? Because I heard Ryan Howard talked about
- 4:35Speaker 6: Ryan Howard won the MVP and he goes, Dude, you
- 4:38Speaker 6: get invited to every Tom Dick and Harry's like event, like, hey,
- 4:44Speaker 6: come on, come and speak here. And then you still
- 4:47Speaker 6: got the regular ones. You still got the one you're
- 4:49Speaker 6: going to see at the BBWA, we still got you know,
- 4:52Speaker 6: you were just at the MOB Awards. Does it get
- 4:54Speaker 6: tiring or now that's your second year you're like, I
- 4:57Speaker 6: know which ones to do and which ones not to Yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 5: I think what happened was I mean, you go to Vegas,
- 5:05Speaker 5: you win the cy Young Wednesday, and go out to
- 5:07Speaker 5: eat and more extracurricular stuff, right, and you wake up
- 5:13Speaker 5: the next day in kind of tough shape, and then
- 5:16Speaker 5: you have the MLB Award show and then you go
- 5:18Speaker 5: out after that and enjoy that night. And then one
- 5:22Speaker 5: of my buddies' bachelor party was back in Scottsdale Friday
- 5:26Speaker 5: and Saturday, so it was like four days of a
- 5:31Speaker 5: lot of fun but at the same time, you kind
- 5:33Speaker 5: of pay for it on the back end, you know,
- 5:35Speaker 5: especially like that Monday that came around. I was hurt,
- 5:39Speaker 5: and then I went up to Portland to do some
- 5:41Speaker 5: stuff with Nike and just got back yesterday, and I'm like, hey,
- 5:45Speaker 5: I'm I'm good for a little bit.
- 5:47Speaker 4: You know.
- 5:47Speaker 5: It just so happens to be my birthday today, But
- 5:49Speaker 5: it's like I've done enough celebrating the last week to
- 5:52Speaker 5: where I don't need to celebrate a birthday alight.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Let me ask you this out and shout out, Craig
- 5:58Speaker 4: about how.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Cool, how cool was that first off and how did
- 6:01Speaker 3: you hit them? Because I struggled. I did good on
- 6:05Speaker 3: one front, nine did bad. I'm back.
- 6:07Speaker 4: I was back and forth with you couldn't use your driver.
- 6:09Speaker 4: That's my problem.
- 6:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I think, I mean, I don't. That course is beautiful,
- 6:14Speaker 5: like it's I mean, it's the nicest. I don't know
- 6:18Speaker 5: if golf gets much nicer than that course, right, Like,
- 6:20Speaker 5: I mean, I'm sure there can be some like elevated
- 6:24Speaker 5: tea boxes to make it maybe look, you know, more beautiful,
- 6:27Speaker 5: but in terms of just nice golf, like that course
- 6:29Speaker 5: has got to be up there or hold its own
- 6:32Speaker 5: with every other course in the world. Like I just
- 6:34Speaker 5: that's just my opinion on it. But it's tight and
- 6:39Speaker 5: it's it's kind of target golf, and the greens are quick,
- 6:41Speaker 5: so if you spray it like I do, it's not
- 6:44Speaker 5: very conducive.
- 6:44Speaker 4: To my style. But too.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Hey, Trek, I want to ask you about the Cy
- 6:51Speaker 1: Young Awards. So leading up to the announcement, did you
- 6:55Speaker 1: kind of feel like you had it in the bag
- 6:57Speaker 1: or like genuinely did you feel like, all right, I
- 6:59Speaker 1: look at the other numbers, the other colleagues in the
- 7:01Speaker 1: sport that had great years, but I feel like I've
- 7:03Speaker 1: got this or were you really sitting there like I
- 7:07Speaker 1: don't know.
- 7:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I think. I mean, I I knew I had
- 7:12Speaker 5: a good year. Obviously, Crochet had a hell of a
- 7:14Speaker 5: year two. I mean that's kind of who I thought
- 7:16Speaker 5: the race was between was us two And you can
- 7:19Speaker 5: make an argument either way. So it's not like I
- 7:22Speaker 5: knew I had it in the bag, but I kind
- 7:23Speaker 5: of figured I was going to win, you know, when
- 7:27Speaker 5: the regular season ended, I was like, Okay, I think
- 7:29Speaker 5: that just accomplished my second cy Young Award. But I
- 7:32Speaker 5: mean Crochet what he had a hell of a season.
- 7:35Speaker 5: I mean, you what he was able to accomplish in
- 7:38Speaker 5: Boston and Fenway. They just traded for him, extended him,
- 7:42Speaker 5: kind of made him the face of that rotation and
- 7:45Speaker 5: kind of the face of the team too. What he
- 7:48Speaker 5: was able to do is nothing short of very impressive.
- 7:51Speaker 5: And he's gonna, you know what we have in this battle,
- 7:53Speaker 5: I think for the next however many years we're doing
- 7:56Speaker 5: it and on the field. So he's a great, great player.
- 7:59Speaker 5: He's got some of my favorite stuff. I bet he
- 8:01Speaker 5: has the best stuff in the big league. It's just
- 8:03Speaker 5: pure stuff.
- 8:06Speaker 4: Side.
- 8:06Speaker 5: But yeah, he's a he's a great player.
- 8:09Speaker 6: That was actually what I was going to ask you,
- 8:11Speaker 6: because big leige players now is never at your level,
- 8:14Speaker 6: but we're always looking at other big league players, like
- 8:16Speaker 6: man I wish I could you know, have that swing path.
- 8:19Speaker 6: Is there something that you look at Crochet and you're like,
- 8:21Speaker 6: man I wish I had this of his?
- 8:26Speaker 5: Yeah, his like slider sweeper thing. I don't know what,
- 8:29Speaker 5: I don't know what he calls it, but it's like
- 8:31Speaker 5: the it's that eighty four to eighty six mone hour
- 8:35Speaker 5: slider that's got a ton of depth and a ton
- 8:37Speaker 5: of glove side movement. That'd be the easiest pitch for
- 8:40Speaker 5: me to add into my arsenal. You know, I don't
- 8:43Speaker 5: have a pitch that does that. And my slider's hard.
- 8:45Speaker 5: It's you know, anywhere from ninety to ninety two. If
- 8:47Speaker 5: I had a breaking ball at eighty four to eighty
- 8:50Speaker 5: six lefties, I think, I mean that with that weapon
- 8:54Speaker 5: the lefties, you can't even put a lefty in the
- 8:55Speaker 5: lineup against Crochet, You really can't. What's the way he
- 8:58Speaker 5: throws a fastball and a slider, But yeah, I mean
- 9:01Speaker 5: our fastballs are pretty similar. I actually love his change up.
- 9:05Speaker 5: He doesn't throw out a time, but I love his
- 9:08Speaker 5: change up. And the reason he doesn't throw a change
- 9:09Speaker 5: up is because he has a really good slider. So
- 9:12Speaker 5: and he's got a cutter too. He kind of has
- 9:13Speaker 5: a cutter that plays like my slider. And then he's
- 9:15Speaker 5: got the good breaking ball. So I mean, that's the
- 9:17Speaker 5: one that I would I would add for sure is that,
- 9:20Speaker 5: like if he wants to call it a sweeper, we
- 9:22Speaker 5: call it a sweeper. It's kind of like that hard slurve.
- 9:24Speaker 5: It's it's really really good.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Talking about pitch election and throwing pitchers. It seemed like
- 9:30Speaker 3: this year, so you significantly went to the fastball and
- 9:32Speaker 3: change up against lefties. Was there a cognizant effort of
- 9:36Speaker 3: doing that or is that just a feel kind of thing.
- 9:38Speaker 3: It was like, ah, well, I'm feeling this today, I'm
- 9:40Speaker 3: gonna throw that. But it just seemed like a little
- 9:42Speaker 3: bit more this year it worked well, yeah.
- 9:46Speaker 5: I think you know, in years past, there's always stuff
- 9:49Speaker 5: you look at at end of seasons and stuff you
- 9:52Speaker 5: want to you know, get better at. And for me,
- 9:54Speaker 5: lefties striking out lefties. It's gonna sound weird, but I
- 9:59Speaker 5: don't strike out lefties at the same rate I strike
- 10:01Speaker 5: out righties like I just I punch out righties more.
- 10:03Speaker 5: And that's because I think might change it more to righty.
- 10:05Speaker 5: So we you know, I sat down with the team,
- 10:08Speaker 5: our pitching coach, catchers and stuff and develop a plan
- 10:11Speaker 5: to get lefties to punch out when I need him to,
- 10:13Speaker 5: because they weren't slugging and there wasn't a ton of damage.
- 10:16Speaker 5: But there's a lot of ground balls, and in certain
- 10:18Speaker 5: situations you can't have a ground ball, you know, with
- 10:20Speaker 5: a runner of third base and less than two outs,
- 10:22Speaker 5: you have to be able to strike guys out. So
- 10:24Speaker 5: as easy as it is to go sink or slider
- 10:26Speaker 5: to lefties and just kind of get to the next hitter.
- 10:29Speaker 5: There are certain scenarios where you know, Bellinger's in the
- 10:31Speaker 5: box and he's a guy that doesn't punch against lefties,
- 10:33Speaker 5: but I got to figure out how to punch belly
- 10:35Speaker 5: with a run around third, and that was kind of
- 10:38Speaker 5: upping force him and change up usage. I think that's
- 10:41Speaker 5: that's kind of that's what I get missed to righty's
- 10:44Speaker 5: and that's what I get missed to lefties. But it's
- 10:47Speaker 5: hard not to fall in love with sinker slider when
- 10:49Speaker 5: you know there's no damage and all they do is
- 10:51Speaker 5: hit it into the ground. So like the worst thing
- 10:53Speaker 5: that can happen is a single or maybe a down
- 10:55Speaker 5: the line double or something like that. But you do
- 10:58Speaker 5: need to be able to punch out left and adults.
- 11:00Speaker 5: And that's kind of where the change up, the out
- 11:02Speaker 5: take and change up usage was. Was uncomfortable thrown into
- 11:05Speaker 5: lefties and they miss it and it kind of plays up.
- 11:09Speaker 5: So that's why I kind of leaned on that pitch
- 11:11Speaker 5: a little more this year.
- 11:13Speaker 6: I have so many questions for you watching your games
- 11:16Speaker 6: in the playoffs, like different stuff from the playoffs, Like,
- 11:19Speaker 6: I haven't seen anybody on the losing team that's dominated
- 11:23Speaker 6: as much as you have. I mean, I'm not saying
- 11:25Speaker 6: that in any other way than a compliment. Like when
- 11:28Speaker 6: your team wins the World Series, it will be because
- 11:31Speaker 6: you and your team have won the whole way, because
- 11:33Speaker 6: you just have carried the Tigers the last two years.
- 11:35Speaker 6: So I want to congratulate you for that. But I
- 11:37Speaker 6: want to go directly to Game five. Tell me if
- 11:41Speaker 6: I'm wrong, but I think you went six innings with
- 11:44Speaker 6: thirteen punchies and.
- 11:45Speaker 5: Gave up one run? Yeah?
- 11:47Speaker 4: One?
- 11:49Speaker 6: Was it tough to sit there then for nine more
- 11:52Speaker 6: innings and watch this team? Were you like were you
- 11:54Speaker 6: trying to like move your shoulder around like that's another inning?
- 11:59Speaker 6: Like like do you do you go back and do
- 12:00Speaker 6: you think? Not second guessing, but do you think man
- 12:04Speaker 6: if I had ten strikeouts but gone eight innings, would
- 12:07Speaker 6: that have helped you?
- 12:08Speaker 4: Know?
- 12:09Speaker 6: What's your mindset in that moment? But also thinking about
- 12:11Speaker 6: that game afterwards and since.
- 12:14Speaker 5: Yeah, that game was, I mean it was. It was
- 12:17Speaker 5: one of the greatest games in postseason history. Really in
- 12:20Speaker 5: a winner go home Game five, Game seven type scenario,
- 12:25Speaker 5: obviously we know runs are at a premium, especially in
- 12:29Speaker 5: a game five game, especially against the manners. So I'm
- 12:32Speaker 5: trying to do what I can to keep our team
- 12:33Speaker 5: in it and then just and limit runs with the
- 12:37Speaker 5: run that I gave up was a frustrating run because
- 12:40Speaker 5: it was like a kind of like a flare down
- 12:42Speaker 5: the left field line double and Josh Naylor, being the
- 12:45Speaker 5: guy that he is, he's I mean, he's a great
- 12:47Speaker 5: baseball player. He knows it's loud. Steals third and the
- 12:51Speaker 5: next one's f eight and we're down one zero in
- 12:54Speaker 5: like the fourth inning or so. So I'm just trying
- 12:57Speaker 5: to keep the game where it's at. And however I
- 13:00Speaker 5: get outside get out. So obviously the strikeout was you know,
- 13:03Speaker 5: my stuff was good that day, so the pitch coown's
- 13:06Speaker 5: going to get up, you know, kind of regardless of
- 13:07Speaker 5: what I was trying to do. That's and in the postseason,
- 13:10Speaker 5: like you can't really pitch. I mean, you're pitching the contact,
- 13:12Speaker 5: but at any point guys are gonna jump in and
- 13:15Speaker 5: that could be the difference in the game, you know,
- 13:16Speaker 5: just because every run is magnified, every out is magnified.
- 13:19Speaker 5: So just trying to keep the game where it is
- 13:22Speaker 5: and obviously, I think the strikeout was that. I mean,
- 13:24Speaker 5: if you look at Game one against Cleveland, I also
- 13:26Speaker 5: think I struck out fourteen, but I was able to
- 13:29Speaker 5: pitch in the eighth just because they were really efficient strikeouts.
- 13:33Speaker 5: And I mean the Manners are a good team. They slug,
- 13:35Speaker 5: They really do slug. They had, you know, top five
- 13:38Speaker 5: guys with twenty plus bombs, two with fifty plus. It's
- 13:41Speaker 5: like that, I mean any at any point they can
- 13:43Speaker 5: run the ball out of the yard. So just knowing
- 13:46Speaker 5: the lineup, knowing the game, knowing the situation, knowing runs
- 13:49Speaker 5: or at a premium, you just try to grind as
- 13:54Speaker 5: best you can and every out it's it's even more
- 13:57Speaker 5: draining than a regular season out. You know, one out
- 14:00Speaker 5: the postseason feels like an inning in the regular season,
- 14:02Speaker 5: just based on how meaningful all the game is. But yeah,
- 14:06Speaker 5: I mean later later into that game, it's like the
- 14:09Speaker 5: eleventh inning, I had kind of come down from the
- 14:11Speaker 5: adrenaline and stuff, and I'm in the dugout and I'm like,
- 14:14Speaker 5: I wonder if they'd let me re enter this game,
- 14:15Speaker 5: or if there's some little changes that we could to use,
- 14:19Speaker 5: just because it's been like, I mean, this game was
- 14:21Speaker 5: so long. There's two seventh inning stretches during the game.
- 14:24Speaker 5: It was I mean it was a ton of fun.
- 14:26Speaker 5: Obviously we come out on the wrong side of it,
- 14:27Speaker 5: but just watching that game and living that game, it
- 14:30Speaker 5: was it was almost worse. It was worse just watching
- 14:34Speaker 5: it than playing in it, you know, just because you
- 14:37Speaker 5: have no say or any control of what's going on
- 14:39Speaker 5: out there.
- 14:40Speaker 6: All right, because you brought that up, I'm gonna jump
- 14:42Speaker 6: ahead to my other question and get back to the
- 14:44Speaker 6: Guardians question. My question is did you watch the World Series?
- 14:50Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 14:50Speaker 6: Yeah, Did you see what Yamamoto did and could you
- 14:54Speaker 6: have done that?
- 14:57Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 14:57Speaker 5: I mean that's what he did. I mean not only
- 15:02Speaker 5: like just throwing back to back days, but also the performances,
- 15:06Speaker 5: like the performance and the outings that he strung together
- 15:09Speaker 5: were incredible all postseason long.
- 15:11Speaker 4: You know.
- 15:11Speaker 5: Without that guy, I don't they don't win the World Series,
- 15:14Speaker 5: you know. And I would love to sit here and
- 15:18Speaker 5: say I'd be ready to go, you know, game one
- 15:21Speaker 5: against Cleveland and Game three. I was ready to go
- 15:26Speaker 5: Game three, you know, I was like, hey, I'm good
- 15:28Speaker 5: to pitch if we need it. But back to back,
- 15:33Speaker 5: I mean, in that situation, you put me in his shoes.
- 15:35Speaker 5: I'm gonna I'm gonna argue as best I can to
- 15:38Speaker 5: be out there and then be thrown in that situation
- 15:40Speaker 5: for sure, whether those decisions are made, you know, you
- 15:45Speaker 5: got to look out for the health of players too.
- 15:47Speaker 5: I don't know. I would love to be in that
- 15:49Speaker 5: situation though, and I know I would do everything I
- 15:52Speaker 5: could to petition my way into the game. They I mean,
- 15:56Speaker 5: they needed him obviously the game goes into extras and stuff,
- 15:59Speaker 5: But I can't see myself sitting on the side and
- 16:03Speaker 5: not at least giving it a go. I don't know.
- 16:06Speaker 5: The impressive part was it wasn't just back to back.
- 16:08Speaker 5: His stuff was as good as it was the day before,
- 16:11Speaker 5: you know. And I'm like, if I throw one hundred
- 16:13Speaker 5: pitches the next day, I don't know if I'm going
- 16:16Speaker 5: to be ninety seven to one hundred. You know, I
- 16:18Speaker 5: could get out there and maybe throw ninety two ninety four,
- 16:20Speaker 5: But he was ninety five to ninety eight coming out
- 16:22Speaker 5: ninety five to ninety eight with his splitter. That's great. Yeah,
- 16:26Speaker 5: I mean, that was incredibly impressive. I would love to
- 16:29Speaker 5: be in that situation to to petition to be able
- 16:33Speaker 5: to go out there and pitch. Just see what happened
- 16:39Speaker 5: that in that role? Man it game seven. Uh, you
- 16:42Speaker 5: got nothing to lose, just give it me.
- 16:44Speaker 6: Got Yeah, for sure, you got a bunch of You
- 16:47Speaker 6: got a bunch of bachelor parties and golf outings to
- 16:50Speaker 6: do in the offseason. That's the only thing you got
- 16:52Speaker 6: to do some put some ice on it and keep going.
- 16:55Speaker 6: I'll take you back to the Cleveland game. And because Aj'
- 16:59Speaker 6: is not on here, I'm sure sure he would ask
- 17:01Speaker 6: you the flip between the legs was the fact that
- 17:05Speaker 6: you flipped between the legs and it became an air
- 17:08Speaker 6: which led to another dribbler, which led to another dribbler.
- 17:12Speaker 6: What was more distracting to come back from the fact
- 17:17Speaker 6: that they weren't hitting you but they were still scoring runs,
- 17:21Speaker 6: or the fact that you made that play and you
- 17:22Speaker 6: were like you even how I don't know if you
- 17:25Speaker 6: have a huge glove or what it is, but you
- 17:27Speaker 6: always hold your glove one certain way, and you were like,
- 17:30Speaker 6: well was I doing? Like how did you recoup? How
- 17:34Speaker 6: did you regroup after that play in such a big moment?
- 17:39Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 17:39Speaker 5: I think I mean that whole inning was very not
- 17:44Speaker 5: one ball was hit to the infield dirt, which is incredible,
- 17:49Speaker 5: and they scored two runs, which is insane too. It's
- 17:53Speaker 5: just the game of baseball. That's just you know, that's baseball.
- 17:56Speaker 5: But I mean that play, you're just trying to get
- 17:59Speaker 5: an out any way you can and they end up throwing.
- 18:03Speaker 5: I think they tried to bunt four times in a row,
- 18:06Speaker 5: four at bats in a row. That and obviously the
- 18:10Speaker 5: Rye situation happens that inning too, and that was probably
- 18:13Speaker 5: the most I don't know if like rattling experience, but
- 18:19Speaker 5: just like you don't even feel like you're playing the
- 18:21Speaker 5: game anymore. It's like you get when when you see
- 18:24Speaker 5: something happen like that live, and especially when you feel
- 18:27Speaker 5: responsible for it. It it makes the game not as
- 18:30Speaker 5: much about playing baseball, but it kind of humanizes it
- 18:34Speaker 5: in a way to where it's like, hey, is this
- 18:36Speaker 5: guy gonna be okay? Like in life, not just the
- 18:39Speaker 5: game of Baseball's he actually gonna be okay? And I
- 18:42Speaker 5: think that was probably the toughest part of that inning,
- 18:45Speaker 5: was just like I have no idea what's going on
- 18:48Speaker 5: with him. He gives the thumbs up, but like, is
- 18:50Speaker 5: he really okay? Especially when you talk about like that
- 18:52Speaker 5: part of the face, Like I mean, you're talking about
- 18:56Speaker 5: if it hits him somewhere different, like it he could
- 18:58Speaker 5: go blind in one eye and now it's sudden his
- 19:00Speaker 5: career is over and I have to live with that
- 19:01Speaker 5: the rest of my life. So that that was one
- 19:04Speaker 5: of those situations that was pretty tough for me as
- 19:07Speaker 5: far as between the legs. I mean, I've tried it
- 19:09Speaker 5: twice and it hasn't worked twice, And when you're out
- 19:12Speaker 5: there competing, you're like, hey, don't do that again. But
- 19:14Speaker 5: I might do it again, and AJ's not going to
- 19:17Speaker 5: be a fan of that. He's like, hey, because I
- 19:18Speaker 5: did it in Miami. He's like, hey, never do that again.
- 19:20Speaker 5: And I was like, yeah, like no doubt if it
- 19:22Speaker 5: worked it it would have worked. If it doesn't, I'm
- 19:24Speaker 5: not going to do that again. And then you get
- 19:25Speaker 5: that situation and you do it again. So yeah, I
- 19:29Speaker 5: I've always you know, I was talking to torqu and
- 19:31Speaker 5: like I did third times at time, It's got to
- 19:33Speaker 5: work one of these times. So yeah, I mean he
- 19:36Speaker 5: was trying to make it out. But that whole inning
- 19:38Speaker 5: was was was wild for sure.
- 19:42Speaker 4: Definitely.
- 19:44Speaker 3: My question to you is you had a little interaction
- 19:47Speaker 3: with with a fan the other day, Rock and I
- 19:49Speaker 3: think it was a white Yankee had if I recall
- 19:52Speaker 3: remember that video, the guy came up to you asking
- 19:54Speaker 3: me to sign it. We're showing right now. I'm curious,
- 19:57Speaker 3: you know, the Yankee guy. I'm curious why you just
- 19:59Speaker 3: wouldn't just sign it. Isn't that something?
- 20:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know. If I'm not trying in any hat.
- 20:07Speaker 5: That's not a Detroit hat. It just so happened to
- 20:12Speaker 5: be that was a Yankee hat. I'm like, you got
- 20:14Speaker 5: nothing else on you, you know, It's just I don't know,
- 20:19Speaker 5: It's uh, it was a funny interaction too. I mean
- 20:22Speaker 5: that guy took it well.
- 20:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:26Speaker 3: And you can see all these fans they want you
- 20:28Speaker 3: to come to their team, and you hear all these
- 20:30Speaker 3: rumors and speculations going on, and it's got to be hard.
- 20:34Speaker 4: You know, you're a really good picture.
- 20:35Speaker 3: But at the same time, you know, every other day
- 20:38Speaker 3: it seemed like there's a trade talk about you going
- 20:40Speaker 3: somewhere else. Man, it's got to play a little bit
- 20:42Speaker 3: in your mind about this whole scenario.
- 20:45Speaker 5: Yeah, no doubt. I think with the way social media is,
- 20:50Speaker 5: it's hard not to see things about yourself especially when
- 20:53Speaker 5: it's talking about trades and kind of all those hypotheticals.
- 20:59Speaker 5: But you know, at the end of the day, it
- 21:01Speaker 5: doesn't really matter. It's not going to impact who I
- 21:03Speaker 5: am day to day basis. It's not going to impact,
- 21:05Speaker 5: you know, the way I'm gonna work out or the
- 21:06Speaker 5: way I'm gonna throw or prepare to get my body
- 21:10Speaker 5: ready to go for another season. So it's it's all
- 21:15Speaker 5: out of my control, you see it. I think as
- 21:18Speaker 5: a player, you don't really like, I mean, unless you
- 21:22Speaker 5: want to be traded, but like that's a whole different situation.
- 21:25Speaker 5: But it's not like I want to be traded, So
- 21:27Speaker 5: it is it does kind of like, you know, hey,
- 21:30Speaker 5: why am I in this? Why am I in these
- 21:33Speaker 5: conversations to begin with? But at the end of the day,
- 21:36Speaker 5: it doesn't It doesn't really impact anything that I'm going
- 21:38Speaker 5: to do day to day, and I try to just
- 21:41Speaker 5: stay off of it and I look at it. I mean,
- 21:43Speaker 5: that's kind of how I've handled it at the trade
- 21:45Speaker 5: deadlines in years past, and it seems to work for me.
- 21:49Speaker 6: Who does it bother the most? Because like, I'm sure
- 21:52Speaker 6: there's family that they read it and I remember telling
- 21:56Speaker 6: and I know Todd said it like family, stay off
- 21:58Speaker 6: of Twitter, stay off of the and it's all that stuff.
- 22:01Speaker 6: Who is the toughest time with it?
- 22:03Speaker 5: Your wife?
- 22:03Speaker 6: Family, Like, and do you have to tell them? Don't
- 22:07Speaker 6: talk to me about it. I just saw it on Twitter.
- 22:09Speaker 6: Can't even go on Twitter without you know, seeing anything
- 22:12Speaker 6: about it.
- 22:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I think I think my wife gets it. I
- 22:16Speaker 5: think that she's pretty good about it. I think it's
- 22:18Speaker 5: probably like my mom and my dad like, hey, where
- 22:21Speaker 5: are you gonna play next year? It's like I'm a
- 22:22Speaker 5: I'm a tiger. That's kind of how you guys will
- 22:25Speaker 5: find out at the same time I find out if
- 22:26Speaker 5: I'm getting actually traded. So I'm like, don't look into
- 22:30Speaker 5: any of the stuff that you see. Definitely, don't comment,
- 22:34Speaker 5: don't don't take to social media and say anything. Please,
- 22:37Speaker 5: don't make a story out of nothing. So it's probably
- 22:40Speaker 5: my family more so than me. But my wife gets it.
- 22:45Speaker 5: You know, my wife gets it. She's you know, there's
- 22:47Speaker 5: not a ton of factor truth behind any of these things,
- 22:51Speaker 5: especially I mean even contract stuff. It's like I don't
- 22:54Speaker 5: really know where they come up with these numbers or
- 22:58Speaker 5: that narrative they create these NARRAI is it's I mean,
- 23:01Speaker 5: it's part of the media job.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Though.
- 23:02Speaker 4: I get it.
- 23:03Speaker 5: I mean I get it. But if you're you know,
- 23:06Speaker 5: in my circle, you know that that's kind of how
- 23:09Speaker 5: we handle things, or how I'm going to handle things.
- 23:13Speaker 1: It's content, and you know, the next thing that pops up,
- 23:16Speaker 1: it runs wild. People love to follow it, and it's annoying,
- 23:20Speaker 1: of course for you to be part of it because
- 23:21Speaker 1: it involves your name, but for everyone else, it's like
- 23:24Speaker 1: it keeps baseball at the forefront, you know, two hours
- 23:28Speaker 1: a day.
- 23:29Speaker 4: But you know, I get it.
- 23:32Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It's it's the media's job
- 23:35Speaker 5: to create narratives and to create content for for baseball.
- 23:39Speaker 5: I get it. I'm not gonna sit here and complain,
- 23:41Speaker 5: but it's just not there's not a ton I get it.
- 23:46Speaker 5: At the end of the day, I get it. It's
- 23:47Speaker 5: it's the job of the game. And yeah, I'm completely
- 23:51Speaker 5: on board with it.
- 23:53Speaker 1: All right, So let me ask you a question about
- 23:55Speaker 1: another picture in the big who actually just got traded
- 23:58Speaker 1: because they did bring up your name the other day.
- 24:00Speaker 1: It's not like the very beginning of your career was perfection.
- 24:04Speaker 1: We've gone over that, right, You weren't a top draft pick.
- 24:07Speaker 1: You dealt with some injuries earlier in your career.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Now look at you.
- 24:11Speaker 1: So we've been backing up a guy like Grayson Rodriguez
- 24:14Speaker 1: who gets traded from the Orioles. He's twenty six years old.
- 24:17Speaker 1: You've seen him pitch and his stuff. We haven't seen
- 24:20Speaker 1: him a ton yet. Right, He's given us two seasons
- 24:22Speaker 1: like one hundred and twenty istionings each and then he
- 24:24Speaker 1: missed this past season. We have him on the show tomorrow.
- 24:26Speaker 1: He's got a big personality to what would your advice
- 24:29Speaker 1: be to someone like that? And also for fans to understand,
- 24:33Speaker 1: you know how it can sometimes take some time to
- 24:36Speaker 1: figure out things and also just figure out your body.
- 24:39Speaker 1: For someone like grayce And who said he had been
- 24:40Speaker 1: dealing with I think it was some type of debrim
- 24:42Speaker 1: in or chips or something. He just got cleaned up
- 24:44Speaker 1: and it had been a problem for three four years.
- 24:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think his stuff is definitely, I mean,
- 24:51Speaker 5: it's as good as it gets in this game, right,
- 24:52Speaker 5: there's not you know, it's ninety six to one hundred.
- 24:56Speaker 5: It's a good change up, it's a good slider. I
- 24:58Speaker 5: think he's got a bigger break ball too. He might
- 25:01Speaker 5: even have two different versions of the heater. But I
- 25:04Speaker 5: mean my advice is just figure out a routine for
- 25:06Speaker 5: him that works to keep him on the field, you know.
- 25:08Speaker 5: And that's that's what changed my career was you know,
- 25:12Speaker 5: I had a rough start to my career. I pitched,
- 25:14Speaker 5: I was healthy until twenty twenty two. I pitched, but
- 25:19Speaker 5: I just wasn't really like my routine wasn't really me.
- 25:24Speaker 5: I guess I felt like I was a little too
- 25:28Speaker 5: run down on every day I pitched, or you know,
- 25:30Speaker 5: I was probably worried about a lot of the wrong things,
- 25:32Speaker 5: or you know, I might have worked too hard, you know,
- 25:35Speaker 5: to where your body's kind of always in the red.
- 25:37Speaker 5: You never feel like ready to go, or you feel
- 25:39Speaker 5: tired earlier into games and you should be. So that's
- 25:43Speaker 5: something that when I got hurt came back rehab my routine,
- 25:47Speaker 5: I kind of changed a lot of things and changed
- 25:49Speaker 5: when I work out, changed you know, how I throw
- 25:52Speaker 5: throwing programs, all that stuff, ploball stuff, and you know,
- 25:56Speaker 5: tinkered with things through that process of when those eleven
- 25:59Speaker 5: months were huge for me and established a really good routine.
- 26:03Speaker 5: And now that I've been on the field the last
- 26:05Speaker 5: two and a half years. I mean, you can argue that,
- 26:09Speaker 5: like it's been the most productive pitcher in baseball the
- 26:12Speaker 5: last two and a half seasons coming back from injuries.
- 26:14Speaker 5: So I think this the routine matters a ton. You know,
- 26:17Speaker 5: figuring out your body matters a ton, and and hopefully
- 26:20Speaker 5: you know the bones first. Stuff that he's dealing with
- 26:23Speaker 5: right now is a quick fix and you can kind
- 26:26Speaker 5: of hammer back your routine and get back to feeling
- 26:29Speaker 5: normal and healthy. And when he's healthy and pitching, I
- 26:32Speaker 5: think his stuff is plenty fine. So you know that
- 26:35Speaker 5: he's going to be a good pitcher in this game,
- 26:37Speaker 5: you know when he's on the field, And I think
- 26:39Speaker 5: that that's what matters. At least that would be my
- 26:40Speaker 5: advice is figure out what works for you treatment wise,
- 26:43Speaker 5: routine wise, nutrition wise, and just play the game, because
- 26:47Speaker 5: when you're out there on the mound, the stuff is
- 26:50Speaker 5: as good as it gets in the big leagues.
- 26:52Speaker 1: I'm with you. Yeah, good stuff, man, Well, good catching up.
- 26:55Speaker 1: We appreciate it. Congrats again, Happy birthday, Congrats on back
- 26:59Speaker 1: to back SIG Awards. Enjoy a little downtime and rest
- 27:02Speaker 1: in the holidays and the whole deal. Uh and then yeah,
- 27:05Speaker 1: we'll catch in in January at the awards.
- 27:08Speaker 5: Yes, sir, I appreciate you, guys.
- 27:09Speaker 2: I felt like this was fitting for today.
- 27:11Speaker 1: So we write for the Roar blog, which you can
- 27:14Speaker 1: look up and we'll post a link on some socials.
- 27:17Speaker 1: We wrote building the perfect MLB starting Pitcher And the
- 27:21Speaker 1: face of this article is the guy that we just
- 27:23Speaker 1: spoke to, and that's Trek Scouble. Okay, we went off
- 27:25Speaker 1: stuff Plus and we wrote a little bit about the
- 27:27Speaker 1: top pitches by stuff Plus indicate just like best pitch
- 27:30Speaker 1: stuff wise right, treks Google, best fastball, Trek's Google best
- 27:34Speaker 1: change up. You got those two right off the jump. Okay,
- 27:38Speaker 1: best sweeper Garrett Crochet for sure, or slider which he
- 27:44Speaker 1: just said he did. Best curveball by stuff Plus was
- 27:47Speaker 1: Framber Baldees and best location plus hitting his spots. I
- 27:54Speaker 1: don't know if you guys saw down on the sheet already, correct.
- 27:57Speaker 6: Chaz Zarta was on there.
- 28:02Speaker 4: Really Yeah.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Interesting, So there's your there's your perfect picture from twenty
- 28:07Speaker 1: twenty five. If you're going off that's that. I know
- 28:09Speaker 1: it's something only sat out there, but it's a good one.
- 28:11Speaker 1: It's more modern statistic. We like it, and you can
- 28:14Speaker 1: check out that article on the Roar blog, part of
- 28:16Speaker 1: the bet MGM blog that we contribute to. It's called
- 28:20Speaker 1: building the Perfect MLB Starting Picture. We took starting pictures
- 28:24Speaker 1: so we didn't look at pitches from relievers.
- 28:26Speaker 6: You know what else, it does the same thing we're
- 28:28Speaker 6: talking about Grayson Rodriguez this whole time.
- 28:31Speaker 5: They're monsters.
- 28:32Speaker 6: I guess Hazel's Zardo's not that as big, but yeah,
- 28:36Speaker 6: they're the mom stars. Like Crochet is a avatar scooball,
- 28:44Speaker 6: I mean, aj sat next to him, He's.
- 28:45Speaker 4: Like, good night. This is a big dude. That's the
- 28:49Speaker 4: other thing that's, oh my god.
- 28:52Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't we don't need we don't.
- 28:55Speaker 5: We don't need that.
- 28:56Speaker 6: That's that's I'm so glad I don't hit anymore. But
- 28:58Speaker 6: like that's when we talk about like eyes have potential
- 29:01Speaker 6: and like could be elite pitchers. Size matters, it does.
- 29:05Speaker 4: Oh yeah, mass equals gas Ce Sabathio.
- 29:09Speaker 1: M h Fan Ravaldas ain't small. He's a big boy too,
- 29:14Speaker 1: I don't. I mean he's not as tall as.
- 29:15Speaker 4: Tall, but he's he's small, a big doll.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Yeah, he's got he's got to build.
- 29:23Speaker 1: I think my guess is he's probably like six feet Yeah,
- 29:26Speaker 1: he's listed five eleven to thirty.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Whoa, that's fair Jesus.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's up for grabs. He's a free agent.
- 29:38Speaker 1: We're swinging it around looking at betem jam futures for
- 29:41Speaker 1: the American League representative in the World Series in twenty
- 29:44Speaker 1: twenty six. A lot of these numbers are are not
- 29:48Speaker 1: favorable enough for me to dip my toes in Tigers
- 29:52Speaker 1: at twelve to one odds.
- 29:54Speaker 4: That's that's just it's not.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Chunky enough for me, guys, And we'll see what happens,
- 29:59Speaker 1: of course with or boy that we just spoke to,
- 30:01Speaker 1: Trek Scougle.
- 30:02Speaker 4: But that's where there's a chance he gets de Yeah,
- 30:06Speaker 4: that's where you like. Do I even try.
- 30:08Speaker 1: If he doesn't. The Tigers are still going to be
- 30:10Speaker 1: active this offseason, and I like them. I think this
- 30:13Speaker 1: is a good team. This is a top what five.
- 30:16Speaker 4: Team in the American League. Yeah, thank you, yes, m Yeah,
- 30:24Speaker 4: I could see that.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Tough to put money down like that.
- 30:26Speaker 1: If when I'm playing futures like this, Kratz, I'm more
- 30:29Speaker 1: looking at win total over unders, postseason, et cetera. I mean,
- 30:33Speaker 1: you gotta really be bold and go out there and
- 30:36Speaker 1: I know you're getting twelve to one.
- 30:37Speaker 2: That's great, But I think I see.
- 30:40Speaker 1: I think during the season you'll be able to get numbers,
- 30:44Speaker 1: you know, either at that range or even better. Right
- 30:46Speaker 1: if they go through a skid, say early on, but
- 30:48Speaker 1: you really at that point have Schooble there and they
- 30:51Speaker 1: did some things you liked in the offseason, that's the
- 30:53Speaker 1: time to pounce.
- 30:53Speaker 6: For me, for sure, I don't like this number, especially
- 30:57Speaker 6: when you sit there in the AL Central where the
- 31:01Speaker 6: Guardians came out essentially came out of nowhere and ended
- 31:05Speaker 6: up winning the Al Central. Like if I'm looking for value,
- 31:08Speaker 6: which I'm looking for if I'm going to be putting
- 31:10Speaker 6: anything on futures, just in the AL Central, like give
- 31:15Speaker 6: me some of that Royals cash, Like there's to me
- 31:19Speaker 6: twelve hundred and twelve to one is not enough right
- 31:21Speaker 6: now for me for the Tigers, who have been to
- 31:23Speaker 6: the playoffs and really have been one pitcher away in
- 31:26Speaker 6: the last two years from making a deeper run. But
- 31:30Speaker 6: you know, I think that I think that value because
- 31:32Speaker 6: the Royals are still trying to win, and I think
- 31:35Speaker 6: you could probably get them at like a I'm not
- 31:37Speaker 6: even gonna say a number because I'll probably be wrong,
- 31:39Speaker 6: but much much bigger number, talking like twenty five to
- 31:43Speaker 6: one or.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Something exactly what I was thinking. I bet they're in
- 31:46Speaker 1: that range. Hey, bet MGM players, get yourself a no
