- 0:02Speaker 2: Well, Hello, Randy, this is Gabe and Amanda on Big
- 0:05Speaker 2: ninety eight point seven. How are you doing today?
- 0:07Speaker 1: I'm doing okay. How are you?
- 0:10Speaker 2: You know what we're doing all right? And is it
- 0:13Speaker 2: okay if we chat with you really quick on the radio?
- 0:15Speaker 1: Randy?
- 0:16Speaker 2: Absolutely, Well, Randy, there are a couple of people who
- 0:21Speaker 2: have reached out to us. One in particular is Ashley Krogan,
- 0:25Speaker 2: and she is telling us that you have really been
- 0:28Speaker 2: going through through a hard time, but you're being so
- 0:32Speaker 2: optimistic about it. Do you mind sharing what happened to
- 0:35Speaker 2: you starting back in August with us?
- 0:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I can do that. I thought I had COVID,
- 0:42Speaker 1: and I went into the er and found out that
- 0:46Speaker 1: it was way more serious, man, that I have a
- 0:51Speaker 1: rare diroid cancer And went in for thinking, you know
- 0:59Speaker 1: that I have and COVID and ended up in the
- 1:03Speaker 1: er and in surgery within a few days. I've been
- 1:07Speaker 1: through a high dose of radiation and my cancer has
- 1:11Speaker 1: spread to my lungs and so we're dealing with a
- 1:15Speaker 1: stage four diagnosis of cancer.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Oh, Randy, I am so sorry to hear this news.
- 1:23Speaker 2: I can't imagine that news and what it did for you.
- 1:25Speaker 2: And your family.
- 1:26Speaker 1: It's been really hard, but we definitely have been through
- 1:32Speaker 1: a lot before, so we're strong people. My wife is
- 1:35Speaker 1: a double transplant patient, emergency, open heart surgery, pulmonary and bosom.
- 1:43Speaker 1: We've been through a lot medically, and so we're very
- 1:46Speaker 1: strong with our faith and a very strong individual. So
- 1:52Speaker 1: we're getting through it, but it definitely is very hard.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I go in tomorrow for a seat to find out
- 2:02Speaker 1: where we're at as far as the cancer spread more.
- 2:06Speaker 1: But we're still being.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Optimistic and I think that that is the most important
- 2:12Speaker 2: thing you can do. And I think people listening right
- 2:14Speaker 2: now are feeling the way I am. You can just
- 2:17Speaker 2: hear it. You're you have a faith based, you have
- 2:20Speaker 2: the support around you, and it's these moments you just
- 2:23Speaker 2: you probably feel like you're being tested. And I just
- 2:26Speaker 2: have to tell you, after reading a couple of these
- 2:29Speaker 2: nominations and people sharing your story, what you're doing through this,
- 2:32Speaker 2: because you can just hear I mean, you're fighting right now,
- 2:35Speaker 2: you are fighting so hard, but you are also doing
- 2:37Speaker 2: something that is phenomenal. You are writing your journey and
- 2:41Speaker 2: you're trying to share this with other people so that
- 2:44Speaker 2: they can go through this with the same optimism as
- 2:47Speaker 2: you are.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I really feel that God has come through me
- 2:55Speaker 1: to put these words down because they are coming from
- 3:00Speaker 1: it somewhere. They are flowing without any issues to be
- 3:06Speaker 1: able to put this book out. We're healing for myself,
- 3:12Speaker 1: but hopefully we'll help other people too.
- 3:17Speaker 2: You are a light, you are an earth angel, and
- 3:20Speaker 2: you have a lot of people that are rallying around you,
- 3:22Speaker 2: and we are some of those people. Thanks to our
- 3:25Speaker 2: friends at Big ninety eight point seven's Christmas Wish Program,
- 3:28Speaker 2: Gateway Chevrolet and Heartland Chevy Dealers, we want to give
- 3:31Speaker 2: you a check for one thousand dollars just to ease
- 3:34Speaker 2: a little bit of the burden of the bills, whatever
- 3:37Speaker 2: it may be, and just bring a little bit more
- 3:39Speaker 2: light this holiday season to you and your family.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Wow. That is incredible. Thank you so much.
- 3:46Speaker 2: You are so welcome, and I really truly hope you
- 3:50Speaker 2: know the impact you're making in not only our community
- 3:52Speaker 2: but the world with your words and this book. What
- 3:55Speaker 2: is the name of the book that you've written with poems.
- 3:58Speaker 1: The Road Unknown? What about definitely my journey and impact
- 4:06Speaker 1: that the care providers that have taken care of me
- 4:11Speaker 1: have actually reflected in my life. They are definitely angels
- 4:19Speaker 1: that have come down to support the people that are
- 4:23Speaker 1: going through this. I'm sorry, I just had the trick
- 4:27Speaker 1: removed from my neck and so I'm still struggling with
- 4:33Speaker 1: my boys.
- 4:34Speaker 3: And Randy Can I asked you a question as well.
- 4:36Speaker 3: I was just wondering when did you get into poetry?
- 4:39Speaker 3: When did you realize you had a knack for it
- 4:41Speaker 3: and it was something you enjoyed doing.
- 4:43Speaker 1: It started in the sixth to seventh grade. I used
- 4:50Speaker 1: it as a way to deal with actually anger issues,
- 4:56Speaker 1: to be able to relate everything that I was going through.
- 5:01Speaker 1: So I've been writing since the summer of the between
- 5:05Speaker 1: the sixth and seventh grade.
- 5:07Speaker 3: That sounds like an incredible outlet for, you know, anger problems.
- 5:11Speaker 3: As you had mentioned, some people might turn towards other
- 5:15Speaker 3: outlets for anger problems, and I think it's amazing you,
- 5:19Speaker 3: you know, took a pen to some paper or a typewriter,
- 5:22Speaker 3: however you wrote it. So I think that's just a
- 5:24Speaker 3: great outlet a really cool story behind that.
- 5:26Speaker 1: It's definitely something that I that I do every day.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I write every day and I will continue to do
- 5:35Speaker 1: it for the rest of my life. And I hopefully
- 5:39Speaker 1: with this impact be you know, being that you know
- 5:43Speaker 1: I was told that my cancer is life ending, that
- 5:47Speaker 1: I can write the end of the story up to
- 5:52Speaker 1: that point and still be able to reflect this on
- 5:58Speaker 1: a positive note all the way through and tell them
- 6:01Speaker 1: able to go home. You know, there are gifts that
- 6:04Speaker 1: come with everything, and the gifts that I got for
- 6:08Speaker 1: part of this was as I wasn't able to speak
- 6:12Speaker 1: for a while and for the first time in my life,
- 6:16Speaker 1: I was able to listen and truly listen. And so
- 6:21Speaker 1: the gifts that I got from this is that I
- 6:25Speaker 1: got to listen to people for the first time probably
- 6:28Speaker 1: in my life, and I don't have to respond. I
- 6:33Speaker 1: can just hear what they have to say and understand.
- 6:38Speaker 1: And that is the gift that I got from this cancer,
- 6:42Speaker 1: and I'll take that with me for the rest of
- 6:45Speaker 1: my life too.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Well, Randy, I can tell you right now that everybody
- 6:49Speaker 2: listening things that you're a gift, and you have gifted
- 6:53Speaker 2: us with so much not only inspiration, but also things
- 6:58Speaker 2: that people need to remember through the holiday season how
- 7:00Speaker 2: important life is and just all I think at this
- 7:04Speaker 2: point all we can say is thank you so much
- 7:06Speaker 2: for doing what you're doing. And I'd love to say
- 7:09Speaker 2: stay strong, but you already know that you are. You're
- 7:11Speaker 2: doing everything you should be doing.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you. Agreesate to to lout
