Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar's fans, welcome into Duval, daily presented by Jinjak.com and fueled by brass tax coffee at his Wednesday, August 19, and your Jacksonville Jaguar's just had a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers at the Miller Electric Center in Duval.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: And they're going to be hosting the Panthers Friday night 730 at the bank.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be interesting to see what that looks like with all the construction going on there.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: But right now, we are recapping.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: This practice and it was a good practice.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: There's no question about it.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: It was a much better practice than what the Jaguars did with the Saints a week ago Where they came out and got punched in the mouth.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: Not literally.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously figuratively But the Saints were the aggressors last week.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: I talked about in the preview for this training camp practice.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: It would be really nice to see
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: the Jaguars be the aggressor come out and look competent and beyond competent from the very beginning, from the very jump.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: And that's exactly what happened on both sides of the ball.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: So that's a really good point of emphasis and it's what Liam Cohen talked about with his team prior to this practice.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: And so you know, I don't know if he's tuned it into the show or not, but no, he's certainly not.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, it was obvious that that's what the Jaguars needed is
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: take the first punch, not get knocked to the ground and have to pick yourself back up, but to actually be the team that they should be based on their talent and coaching.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: So it was good to see that out there.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to dive into everything I saw on offense, defense, all that good stuff.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate you all tuning in.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content here, please like and subscribe.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: You can also hit that
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot to get into here, including the fact that the Jaguar is traded for an offensive lineman, which they traded for a Daniel Falele from the New York Giants this morning.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: They're trading a late round pick in twenty twenty seven for Falele.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: He has, he has guard and tackle experience.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jaguar is a bringing him for guard, but I'm going to do a whole other video on that.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to work on that as soon as we're done with this one, and I'm going to dive into some of the tape and just kind of figure out what I think about that move.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I remember him coming out of Minnesota.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: I remember him and Baltimore a little bit, but couldn't, couldn't need a refresher and kind of get my thoughts on that one.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, Liam Cohen was pleased with the practice today, was pleased with how they came out.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: Funny to see some of the, the names out there, former Jaguars Todd Wash. Yeah, they're defensive line coach.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: He was the Jaguars defense coordinator from what like 13 to 19.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: wanting something like that.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, he was here forever.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: Um, as the Jaguar's defensive coordinator, but, uh, yeah, he's their defensive line coach.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: So seeing him out there was funny.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: I completely forgot that he was their defensive line coach.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll definitely wait.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's wearing number 55.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: Luke Fortner, Elijah Cooks, you know, former Jaguars out there.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: Um, the big names that the jackwares didn't have today, you know, no park or Washington.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: We knew that.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: No wildmilem, McCary, Adoga, Colvin Lannon.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing too crazy.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'll besides that, Andrew.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: I was obviously, I mean, on the offensive line, you've got a lot of injuries.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: There's no secret about that.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's part of the Daniel Fall.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: I like that.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: But, uh,
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: Look, I thought early on in practice the Panthers and when I say practice, I mean, like in the individual drills and the first special teams drill, it just felt like the Panthers were the team that looked more energized.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: But as soon as it came to 11 on 11, the Jaguars were absolutely bringing it and they did a really good job in this practice overall on both sides of the ball.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think you would say that they won both sides of the ball, not like without any competition.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: The Panthers fought and they're pretty decent team.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: themselves.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: They've got talent in certain spots that gives the Jaguars a little bit of trouble, but the Jaguars won this practice on both sides, I think.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: There was a couple little scraps, skirmishes.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing really to write home about the first run play, I think, you know, Anton, or one of the offensive Lyme and got fired up, and then there was a whole, you know, tons of players getting in on it, and but there was no punches or crazy, anything crazy, and then a little bit later on, Tim Jones going across the middle got laid out, probably an unnecessary hit by Trayvon Merrig, who's a very good player, and Robert Hainesy and Company, you know, charge towards Merrig, and they're like ready to take him out.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: But nothing crazy ended up happening, right?
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: So Tim Jones was slow to get up, but he came off the field and looked just fine.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: Looking at what the Jack Wars did offensively, we'll start with the run game.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: I thought, run game wise, the Panthers run defense came out, stop in the run for the first two, three, maybe four runs.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: And then it was like the floodgates opened.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: You had back-to-back strong runs in field work from Baseltoon and Chris Rodriguez.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: Then Abdulah had a nice long run, another tough physical run from Chris Rodriguez.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: And then Baseltoon had multiple runs where it looked like nobody even got close to him before he got to the third level.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and you got another nice one run from Amir Abdullah as well, and then it felt like it started to get a little bit more competitive with the Panthers kind of stiffening up just a little bit after that.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: But overall, I was impressed with what I saw with the Jaguars on the ground today.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen was happy with what he saw today on the ground from his team.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think overall, strong day, and then also Jamari Taylor in the red zone had a rushing touchdown where,
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: He got to the goal line on touchdown.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: You're not denying Jamari Taylor when he gets to the goal line.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: Once he's in position to get that touchdown or first down, I think that that was pretty clear.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: Last week, that was pretty clear today.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: Looking at the Trevor Lawrence lead passing attack, overall looked pretty good.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: You did have the expected offensive line out there based on what we've seen this week, which was Anton Harrison, left to write Anton Harrison,
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: and Walker Little, I think that the Jaguars had to play a game, that would be the starting offensive line.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: If, and when, I would say when, when Colby and landing comes back, I think the only change would actually probably just be Van Lannan sliding in at right tackle, but it's possible that they would put pregnant on back on the bench, shift Cleveland back over to left guard, and it would, it would be Harrison Cleveland, handsy little, and then
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: And then COVID-19 land, and obviously I know a lot of fans would much rather see manual pregnant on then than walk her little out there at guard, but that remains to be seen exactly how it's gonna go down.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: So to get it started, they had one throw offensively with Trevor Lawrence outside of the red zone, and then there was like three straight red zone plays where it was just beautiful.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: First throw was a completion to Brian Thomas Jr. Second throw in the red zone completion between two defenders to Britain's strange.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: Third throw completion between two defenders to make work at your fourth throw.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: Excuse me.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: Touchdown to Jacobi Myers.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: He had three straight touchdown passes.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: On two of those, he had to kind of move around a little bit.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't feel like it was a play where it was like, oh, that would have been a sack.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: It was like he was just moving around in the pocket
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: So he started four or four with three touchdowns in the red zone.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that was really, really impressive.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: And he was fired up about it.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: The whole offense was after the red zone work there with the starting offense, which Trevor Lawrence has next throw.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: He had, he led Britain, strange a little bit too much over the middle.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: Strange was open, should have just put it on him a little bit more accurately.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: Next throw Brian Thomas Jr. made a good adjustment middle of the field, good gainer, he's five of six at that point, and then on the next play, Trayvon Merrick Blitz is it's a sack, and then a pick.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: He threw it right to 21, which you know, these things do happen occasionally, but
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: Unfortunately, happy to have an impractor's not in a game, but so at that point you're six of eight within interception and three touchdowns, had a nice completion to Britain's strange and tight coverage, and then there was a tip to pass of the line, your six of nine at that point.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: Next throw a completion to BTJ, and the next throw, it was a little high in behind Austin, Tramwell, who was like on a deep over type of deal, and Tramwell,
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you would call it a drop, but he got hands on it and couldn't bring it in.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: Completed another one to Nate Borkerture, eight of 12 at that point, nine of 13 on a completion to Bachelorette toton for a screen.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: It would have got a few yards, I think Derek Brown probably would have been able to toss Bachelorette toton to the ground.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: He got hands on him, a next play, completion to CJ Williams, and then a big, big one down the field completion.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: to Josh Cameron, who got wide open, he had a hell of a practice, Josh Cameron did.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: And that guy just continues to make plays every single day.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: His ability to get open down the field, has been popping off the tape as of late.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: And he's a big physical guy with a lot of athleticism.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, that was pretty impressive.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: I have to say no question about it.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you then had a touchdown to BTJ, and then the next play I couldn't really tell exactly what happened, but it looked like the offense was cheering for a touchdown.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: Um, not going to count that one just because I don't know.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and then you had an end of game scenario where JC Horne got physical with BTJ in completion, past breakup.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: Um, then you had another one where it was just a little bit of a missed connection with BT.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: BT got hands on it, but it was a tough catch.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't necessarily call it a drop.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: then same thing on the next play.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: So Jaguar's end of game scenario for the offense did not look good.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: It was three straight in completions disappointing there.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: But he finished 12 of 19 with I think a very solid overall practice.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: You would like the completion percentage to be a little bit higher.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to have variance in his completion percentage.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: I've talked about that.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: I also think in games, he's a little bit sharper than he is in practice.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think you've seen that throughout his career.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: But this is a practice where you're talking about again, at least five touchdown passes to one interception.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: This is a big play offense, and they were a big play offense today, and they were a very efficient red zone offense as well.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: Both with Trevor Lawrence and with the backups, and we'll get to the backups in just a second.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: But I did want to talk about the Jaguars.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: The line has moved here a little bit over at my bookie for Jaguars versus Panthers.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: Half point home favorites over the Panthers this week.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: Over at my bookie, still not confident in which way I feel about that one.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, Liam talked about it.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: Will the starters play?
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: As of Monday, the plan was for the starters to play up to a couple of drives.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: Now he's kind of not sure exactly because the point of getting the starters out there is to get more continuity and chemistry, and if you don't have all your guys specifically up front on the offensive line, do you really want to do that?
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: You want to throw a Trevor Lawrence out there.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: So probably expecting a decision with the next 24 hours, but will that decision even become public?
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's really unclear at this point.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: uh... i don't know what the jacks are gonna do maybe tomorrow afternoon evening you'll hear some news about that and of course if you do uh... will have you covered but i will tell you this i like the jack wars to make the playoffs at plus one twenty four over at my bookie and you can find all the action you want

- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: So notes on the rest of the offense here.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: CJ Williams from Nick Mullins, who Nick Mullins was back out there, he got nicked up during the game
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen was very complimentary of Nick Mullins after practice, so for everybody that's wanting to see a new quarterback as a backup here in Jacksonville, I don't know that that's going to happen.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: He kind of, Liam Cohen talked about the excuse of, you know, when you don't have much going on in front of you from an offensive line standpoint in terms of guys that have experience in this league, it can be really difficult, said he did some nice
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: Nick Mullins did do some nice things today.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: Had an interception, but he did some nice things today.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: Completion to CJ Williams, who CJ Williams made a sliding grab in coverage.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: It was a really nice catch, but also a nice ball.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: Fit the ball in between two defenders down to the goal line.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: got Tanner Koziel for a touchdown, Koziel went pretty low for that one, and Josh Cameron had a big grab down the field, another big grab down the field, this one from Nick Mullins.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: So, Josh Cameron, not only did he have the touchdown, I mean that was probably 40-50-yard touchdown from Trevor Lawrence, he also had 30-40-yard play where he got opened down the field on the left side, and Liam Cohen was complimentary of Mullins on that one as well.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: But, yeah, so shout out to Josh Cameron, Tanner Koziel, I mentioned he scored a touchdown.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_00]: He had a nice catch and run where he ran 38 over.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, bold him over, kept running, barely broke stride, 38's on the ground afterwards.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: It was pretty cool to see.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: Michael Worth, I'm had a nice screen.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: That's a player who's really popped this week.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: Really quick, diminutive route running receiver.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: CJ Williams had another nice grab down the field and then Hunter long also got open on a nice play from the Jaguar's backup.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I do think you saw a lot more of the ones in Tuesday than you would then you will on Friday night.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think you will see a lot of the, you know, the Carter Bradley's of the world and those guys competing, but I think that
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar is one's and two's offense both did well, so that's pretty cool, good stuff, much better than what you, again, I think that they responded last week against the Saints, and the practice, but the Saints came out and were better than the Jaguars for at least the first 10 plays on both sides, it felt like.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: Um, getting to the defensive side of the ball for the jags, uh, you started off with the tackle for loss against the run.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: Um, we're just going to go through a bunch of plays that I was able to see, uh, Eric Arms said had a sack in these are in order, uh, chronologically.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: Eric Arms said had a sack.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: Um, on that same play, Jarian.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: Jones and Christian Brasswell, forced an incompletion in the end zone.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: Caleb Ransal had a nice run stop after that for a look and had a tackle for loss.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: After that, I did see two short touchdowns, 81 scored, which I can't remember who that is for the Panthers and then Jitaevi on Sanders number zero scored on a short touchdown.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: To Barman, Muhammad had a pass break up in the end zone.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: Branson Combs had a tackle for loss, Eric Murray had a pass break up, Jarring had another pass break up, Ray on lane batted a pass at the line, then Josh Hines Allen had a tackle for loss.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the Jaguars were making a lot of plays defensively.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: The one player who really gave them consistent problems was none other than T-Mac, Teterome, McMillan, not a surprise there.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_00]: He had a touchdown versus Barmou Hamid.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, B.J.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: Green was probably there for a sack, and then Danny Strigo after that had a sack for his Kenny Pickett.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: Demon Hamilton, Eric Arm said combined for a run stuff, but then Bryce, you don't had a really nice completion down the field to Tettaro, McMillan, Felipe Franks had a touch down against busted coverage.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter's side and he had a pass break up.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: That was an impressive one.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: Christian Brasswell also had a pass break up and then you get into the end of the game period and Josh Heinz Allen.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: Had a sack, then you had the very next plate, another sack.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: It was either Dennis Gardeck or Eric Ormstedt or a combination.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: And then you finished it out with an incompletion.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: So the jags defense at the end of the game clamped down.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: And the Panthers defense at the end of the game clamps down in those drills, right?
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: It would have been nice to see the offense kind of at least move the ball down the field into scoring range, but they weren't able to do that.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: The defense did their job.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jaguar's defense is ahead of the Jaguar's offense.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: The one question I still have about the Jaguar's defense, which I hope gets answered by Travis Hunter early on in the season.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: can they deal with number once?
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: Number one, why do receivers?
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: They couldn't do it last year.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: You look around the AFC landscape.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_00]: All the teams that were in the AFC last year that were in the playoffs that didn't have true number one receivers went and got some version of that.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: The Denver Broncos got Jalen Waddle.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: The New England Patriot's got AJ Brown.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_00]: The Buffalo Bill's got DJ Moore.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: So, and of course, the Texans already had Nico Collins.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: You already had some decent receivers around.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: That's the question for me.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: Can they stop opposing receivers?
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: Number one receivers.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: T-Mac went off against them today in my opinion.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: Chris O'Lave went off against them last week.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: So can they do that?
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: And then from a special team at standpoint, Walker Little missed one field goal.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: He was four of five.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: And Travis Hunter was actually one of five.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_00]: He actually was.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: They during special teams period, Camlittle was having some practice alone, but then Travis Hunter comes over and decides he wants to take a crack and make an infield goal.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: Missed his first four, but he made that fifth one and the crowd, and he made it afterwards, and he got fired up, had a nice little dance number, celebrating his made field goal.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: So that was just like a fun little bit of levity during the practice, but overall,
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar's looked how I wanted them to look, but for, you know, would it be nice to be completely clean on the interception front?
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it would.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: Would it be nice if Cole VanLanan was healthy?
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it would.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: Would it be nice if they were a little bit more competitive with Teteroma, McMillan?
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it would, but, you know, teamac is a hell of a player.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: And it wasn't like Travis Hunter was on him every play.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: Would he be in a real game?
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jags defense made more plays than the Panthers offense.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jags offense made way more plays than the Panthers defense.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's what you want to see.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: We are going to talk more Daniel Filale.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_00]: Later on, we will talk about the Jag wars upcoming game, everything going on.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all being here once again.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll say hit that high button and y'all have a great one.
