- 0:00Speaker 1: That was going on.
- 0:00Speaker 2: It's Romeo. What did we talk about today? We're Thursday,
- 0:02We're almost to the weekend. We got into the NBA
- 0:05a little bit about why I just I can't watch
- 0:07it anymore.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I try, but I can't.
- 0:09Speaker 2: We talked about relationships with Michael Bean and then of
- 0:11course embarrassing yourself.
- 0:12Speaker 1: What was your embarrassing moment? Let's get go on. How
- 0:15did you send me here already?
- 0:16Speaker 3: Four?
- 0:17Speaker 2: Two, five, four or seven to seven? Hey, rome can
- 0:20you help me understand this? Yesterday I'm at work. My
- 0:23wife calls me from her job talking about what a
- 0:25rough day she's having, how hard it's been, she's tired,
- 0:28she's frustrated.
- 0:30Speaker 1: So I take off work a little bit early.
- 0:33Speaker 2: You know what, I will say this, Sometimes there's too
- 0:37much and I haven't finished reading this, but I'm Sometimes
- 0:40there's too much communication. If you were at work and
- 0:43you get a call from your spouse telling you how
- 0:45messed up their day is, and you're trying to get
- 0:48through your day, how you're supposed to handle that anyway?
- 0:53So okay, I go pick up dinner for us and
- 0:56the kids so she doesn't have to do anything. When
- 0:59she gets home. She shows up I got dinner ready.
- 1:03She's mad at me. She had pulled out some meat
- 1:05that she was gonna cook. So now I'm the bad
- 1:08guy for getting dinner and ruining her dinner plans.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I was just trying to help her out.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Room.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Was I wrong? No, I know you're not wrong. I mean,
- 1:19why would you be wrong.
- 1:20Speaker 2: She's talking about what a rough day she's having, how
- 1:23she's frustrated and blah blah blah, and so you try
- 1:27to do what you can to help.
- 1:29Speaker 1: You know, I'm gonna give this guy credit, because you.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Know how women always get mad when you try to
- 1:36solve their problems for them.
- 1:38Speaker 1: He could have just as easily.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Tried to solve her rough day at work with whatever
- 1:44she was frustrated with at her job. But instead he
- 1:47just said, you know what, let me go hand her
- 1:49dinner for us and the kids so that she has
- 1:52one lesson thing to deal with, and then she comes
- 1:54home mad at you. No, you didn't do anything wrong.
- 1:58She was just being in jackass. I mean, she just
- 2:01took out her rough day on you. And I'll be
- 2:04honest with you. If I were you, I would never
- 2:06make dinner again. I would never buy dinner again. I
- 2:08would never make dinner again. She should have kept her
- 2:11mouth shut, put the meat and refrigerator, and just enjoyed
- 2:14the fact that you tried to do something to lessen
- 2:18the stress of her day.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Is what you should have is what she should have done.
- 2:22Speaker 2: So no, she was one hundred percent wrong, And I'm
- 2:26just telling you I would never help her out again,
- 2:29just for the mere fact that she did that to you.
- 2:32Speaker 1: All right, two for seven to seven. I send me this.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I thought it was kind of funny, he said, Abraham.
- 2:38I was hoping you can help me understand. So yesterday
- 2:40I'm at work. My wife calls me from her job
- 2:43talking about what a rough day she's having, how hard
- 2:45it is, she's tired, she's frustrated.
- 2:47Speaker 1: So I take a I get off.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Work a little bit early to go pick up dinner
- 2:50for us and the kids so she doesn't have to
- 2:52do anything.
- 2:53Speaker 1: When she gets.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Home, she's mad. She's mad at me. She had pulled
- 2:57out some meat that she was gonna cook. So now
- 2:59I'm the bad guy for getting dinner and ruining her
- 3:02dinner plans.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I was just trying to help rome. Was I wrong? No,
- 3:06you weren't wrong. Of course you're not wrong.
- 3:09Speaker 2: How'd you be wrong for trying to help I'm like
- 3:12that meat can't sit one more day. But you pull
- 3:14out something you can't have it? Would you happened yesterday
- 3:18when you can't have it today? I mean, what, why
- 3:23would you be wrong?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Already? Four two, four, seven to seven?
- 3:28Speaker 2: Hey, Romeo, tell that guy he has to understand what
- 3:32his wife is doing as a mother of two and
- 3:37a wife. When I get home, I have dinner plans
- 3:40ready to go. So when I pull out food to
- 3:43make when I get home for everybody, it is frustrating
- 3:47when nobody wants.
- 3:48Speaker 1: To eat it.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Well, he didn't say nobody wanted to eat it. He
- 3:51just said he was trying to help her out so
- 3:53she didn't have to cook, so he provided dinner. What
- 3:57is wrong with you cannot honestly sit here and say
- 4:00that this guy was wrong for trying to make his
- 4:03wife's day a little easier. He can't be that dumb.
- 4:07There's no way in hell. I mean, that's just her
- 4:10being a jackass. She had a rough day at work,
- 4:12came home, took it out on him.
- 4:14Speaker 1: That's all.
- 4:14Speaker 3: It was.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Thirty four, two, five, four or seven to seven?
- 4:17Speaker 4: All right?
- 4:18Speaker 2: This is just too funny man. I mean, the guy
- 4:21says that. This is what the guy sent me.
- 4:23Speaker 1: He said.
- 4:24Speaker 2: He says his wife called him right at work yesterday
- 4:27and she was talking about her job. It was she
- 4:30was having a rough day, she was frustrated, she was tired.
- 4:33Speaker 1: So I guess he got off.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Work early, so he was gonna pick up dinner for everybody,
- 4:38for the kids and everybody, so she didn't have to
- 4:40do dinner. And when she gets home, she sews up
- 4:42for dinner. She sews up. I got dinner ready already.
- 4:46She's mad at me. She pulled out some meat that
- 4:49she was gonna cook. So now I'm a bad guy
- 4:51for getting dinner and ruining her plans. I was just
- 4:55trying to help out Roam. What do you think was
- 4:57I wrong for that?
- 4:58Speaker 1: No, you weren't wrong.
- 4:59Speaker 2: She was just being jackass. I mean, there's no other
- 5:03way to say it. Already four two pop four seven
- 5:07to seven. Hey, Rome, that's why these women in Bakersfield
- 5:11can't find a good man, and they're always complaining that
- 5:14good men don't exist, because when a guy does something
- 5:17for him like that, they got to get pissed off
- 5:21because it wasn't their way. Well, I don't know if
- 5:25that's true, but yeah, I mean, obviously she had a
- 5:31bad day at work, so she went and took it
- 5:35out on her family on Her husband called him at
- 5:38worked to complain, but then when he tried to do
- 5:40something nice for her to make her day easier, she
- 5:43got mad at him.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Bro, I hope she's a good woman.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I don't know what to tell you already, four two
- 5:49pop four seven to seven. Hey, Rome, Hey, Rome, it
- 5:55is his fault if his wife had plans for dinner already,
- 5:59he called her and asked her if it was okay
- 6:03for him to do that so it didn't mess up
- 6:06what she had going on at home. No, that's just stupid.
- 6:12That's ridiculous. That's ridiculous. Maybe maybe you're right. That's why
- 6:17these women in Bakersfield are always complaining they can't find
- 6:20a good man, because when a good man does good
- 6:22stuff for him, they act like jackasses. Maybe you're right
- 6:26already four two five four seven to seven.
- 6:29Speaker 1: So check out what.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Happened to this dude, This poor guy man. I feel
- 6:32bad for him. I hope his wife doesn't treat him
- 6:34like this all the time. He says, Rome, maybe you
- 6:39can help me out help me understand what this. Yesterday
- 6:43I'm at work, my wife calls me her job from
- 6:45her job, talking about what's what a rough day she's having,
- 6:49how hard it's been, She's tired, she's frustrated.
- 6:51Speaker 1: So I take off work.
- 6:52Speaker 2: A little bit early, pick up dinner for us and
- 6:53the kids so she doesn't have to do anything. When
- 6:56she gets home, she's dinner's ready. She's at me. She
- 7:00had to, she says, she pulled out some meat that
- 7:03was she was gonna cook.
- 7:04Speaker 1: So now I'm the bad guy. I ruined her dinner plans.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Well, did you really or is she just trying to
- 7:12be a jackass and take out her bad day on you?
- 7:15Because it's like what that me, can't sit one more day,
- 7:19can't make it today?
- 7:20Speaker 1: I mean, what is it bad? And who cares? You know?
- 7:24Speaker 2: Sometimes I'm just gonna tell you this, Sometimes when somebody
- 7:28does something for you, you need to just shut up
- 7:31and be appreciative. Okay, Sometimes you need to just say
- 7:35thank you and go about your day, not good, not
- 7:40be mad because you had something else. Obviously your husband
- 7:44did not know that, so all you had to do
- 7:48was not say anything, be appreciative, and make the make
- 7:53whatever you're gonna do today.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Okay.
- 7:56Speaker 2: People do that all the time. They do it with
- 7:57flowers a lot. Hear these people. Oh they're flowers. You
- 8:00bought me flowers, or they're just gonna die. Or people
- 8:03do stuff your spouse. You do stuff for your spouse,
- 8:07and instead of just being appreciative, they have to make
- 8:10some snide remark about it already four two five four
- 8:13or seven to seven, Yo, Rome, I agree with you, Rome,
- 8:16appreciate it, Yo, Rome. But sheick had a rough day
- 8:19at work because her work husband didn't bring her coffee
- 8:22and donuts.
- 8:23Speaker 1: She's just selfish.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Yeah, Bro, I would have been uh yeah, I poor guy.
- 8:30I feel bad for you, Bro, I mean, I really do.
- 8:32Your wife was just being a jerk, you know. I
- 8:35hope she's not always like that. Hopefully this is just
- 8:39I'm hoping, because you asked me about it, that this
- 8:42is just an odd day, you know, an off day,
- 8:45that this is not a regular occurrence. Because if it is, Bro,
- 8:48you got to get a new wife. I mean, and
- 8:53I would tell you again, don't ever in your life
- 8:56make dinner, buy dinner for her ever, ever, try to
- 9:00help her out again. If she's going to treat you
- 9:02like that. I was telling me that his wife called
- 9:05him at work and she apparently if she's having a
- 9:08rough day, she was tired, frustrated. So he thought he'd
- 9:11tried to help out him a little bit. He gets
- 9:13off work a little bit early, goes and picks up
- 9:15dinner for the kids and everybody, and.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Apparently when she got home she was mad about it.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Excuse me, she was mad because she had pulled out
- 9:23some meat, but she was gonna cook.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Which how old is your wife, by the way, who
- 9:27pulls out meat every day?
- 9:28Speaker 4: That's just weird.
- 9:29Speaker 2: I don't mean people still did that, but okay, So
- 9:33he was just asking me what I thought about it.
- 9:35Speaker 1: He was just trying to help out and be nice,
- 9:36and apparently, you know what, I.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Think that she had a rough day, and I think
- 9:41that she took it out on you, And I think
- 9:44that's terrible. Already four two five, four or seven to seven, Hi, rom,
- 9:51I think you're right. I think she just had a
- 9:53rough day and took it out on her husband. That's
- 9:57unfortunate that women act like that. It I used to
- 10:01do that with my husband when he was just trying
- 10:04to help me. It took me a little while, but
- 10:06I finally learned just to kind of just to kind
- 10:10of understand what he's doing.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Well.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Is trying to help you wrong? That text message kind
- 10:17of made it sound like trying to.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Help you was wrong? Can you help in the wrong
- 10:21way like that?
- 10:22Speaker 2: I guess already for two four or seven to seven. Hey, Rome,
- 10:26we're looking at it from his perspective. What about her side?
- 10:30Is it always up to her to cook dinner? Or
- 10:33does he cook dinner as much as she does?
- 10:36Speaker 5: Well?
- 10:36Speaker 2: I mean it's a fair question. But to be honest
- 10:40with you, what are you doing? What are you providing
- 10:42in the relationship? If one person is going to work
- 10:47every day. What if you flipped it the other way?
- 10:49What if you said, she goes to work and provides
- 10:52one hundred percent of the income and all she wants
- 10:56is to have dinner when she gets home. I don't
- 11:00think any of you would argue that he needs to
- 11:02participate in the household. I mean, if if you flip
- 11:05the if you if you looked at it from a
- 11:07different perspective and flip the gender roles as so to speak,
- 11:11or flip the who was doing what? You would say
- 11:14he should cook every night?
- 11:16Speaker 4: Right?
- 11:20Speaker 2: But you know what, are you supposed to do? I mean,
- 11:24you're right, I mean you're right when you say it.
- 11:26But is he supposed to cook as much? Is he
- 11:28supposed to go to work all day and provide one
- 11:31hundred percent of the income and then come home and
- 11:34do just as much work around the house as she does?
- 11:40Speaker 1: Is that what's supposed to happen? All right? So here
- 11:43we go.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Scarlett is back from the Ronald McDonald house, and a
- 11:46val is here for the American Car Show trucks and bikes.
- 11:49They do it every single year. Good morning, guys, what's
- 11:53going on?
- 11:53Speaker 4: Good morning?
- 11:54Speaker 1: Thanks for opening the door and letting me in.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Okay, So let's talk about the car show value.
- 12:01Speaker 1: You do it every year.
- 12:02Speaker 2: The proceeds go to the Ronald McDonald house. It's the
- 12:05more parts of Bakersfield. And tell everybody what it is.
- 12:08Speaker 6: Yes, it's what's on our seventeenth year with the Ronald
- 12:11McDonald house. We're at the Kowa on Wible Road right
- 12:14there at the Autumn Hall, same place we've been for,
- 12:16as I say, our seventeenth year, coming and we invite
- 12:21all make and models of cars.
- 12:23Speaker 4: Gates open at seven o'clock for cars. Spectators can come
- 12:27in at ten.
- 12:28Speaker 6: There's free parking on the street on Wible all the
- 12:30way up and down both sides, so you won't be
- 12:32able to park inside the campgrounds, which you can park
- 12:34out there free and it's free entrance, and we'll have
- 12:38lots of custom cars, motorcycles, everything you can think of.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Every year, it's going on May ninth.
- 12:44Speaker 2: I believe that's a Saturday, right, yes, sir so val
- 12:48Can people still sign up with the car show?
- 12:50Speaker 1: Are you filled up?
- 12:51Speaker 5: No?
- 12:51Speaker 6: You can sign up online, go on more parts of Bakersfield.
- 12:54There's a website on there you can do. We have
- 12:57a que code now you can use if you want
- 12:59to enter that way, or you can print and mail
- 13:02it to me or bring it down the day of
- 13:04the show. It's thirty five dollars in advance day of
- 13:07show forty dollars. And again it's all for Ronald McDonald house,
- 13:10so the increasing cost is minimum.
- 13:13Speaker 2: You guys have given over three hundred thousand dollars over
- 13:15the years.
- 13:16Speaker 4: We're actually approaching four hundred.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Really, that's very impressive.
- 13:20Speaker 7: So you can come out and celebrate my birthday next week.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Is that when it's all your birthdays next week? It is, well,
- 13:25that's awesome.
- 13:26Speaker 7: This is the third time I've celebrated in all the years.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Out there, Am I somebody going to bring a cake
- 13:30or something, I'm I don't really care.
- 13:35Speaker 7: Somehow, but no, it's just so special that you know,
- 13:38one hundred percent of the proceeds from this event obviously
- 13:42go back to the Ronald McDonald House. The club doesn't
- 13:43keep any of it, and it you know, to think
- 13:47it's a car club, it's not a huge business. And
- 13:50the more parts of biker sold are actually our largest.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Donor to the Ronald Mcgillhouse.
- 13:54Speaker 7: And again, not a business, not an individual, just a
- 13:58bunch of people that love cars and do this out
- 14:00of the goodness of their heart every year for us.
- 14:02Speaker 2: So there could be any maker model out there. And
- 14:04like I said, it's going on May ninth. Gates open
- 14:06at seven for the cars. Show starts at ten am
- 14:09for the spectators. It is at the KOA.
- 14:13Speaker 1: What's that? What's that? What's this?
- 14:17Speaker 2: If you don't know where that is then used to
- 14:19be the crush driving Yeah, exactly.
- 14:20Speaker 1: If you don't know where that is, you don't need
- 14:22to go. And you know, one thing I want.
- 14:25Speaker 6: To say is if without the support of the people,
- 14:27we wouldn't be able to raise this kind of mine. Yeah,
- 14:29so it's very impressive when we'll bring their cars and
- 14:31enjoy the day. We'll have vendors on site for the
- 14:34food since the restaurants no longer open.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Okay, and oh the restaurants no it's closed now. Great restaurant,
- 14:41such a great rushaurant.
- 14:42Speaker 4: Again, we'll have three different vendors there for.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Food and ice cream and all that stuff.
- 14:45Speaker 6: And we'll be given out our free water like we
- 14:47do every year. And you know, it's good sized trees plenty.
- 14:51It's a unique situation where you have power and water
- 14:54at every site. So everybody come out and spend some
- 14:57money and make more money for the romal downhouse.
- 14:59Speaker 2: And there is there's no better group of people to
- 15:02hang out with. And I don't know why it is,
- 15:03but there's no better group of people to hang out
- 15:06with than car owners guys who like to sit around
- 15:08and show off their cars. I don't know why. They
- 15:11just they got great stories. They're so fun to talk to.
- 15:14They're very opening and welcoming and want to show you
- 15:16everything about their car. So if you're into it, it
- 15:20is a really great time and supports Aronald McDonald house. Everybody,
- 15:24Hold on a second, all right, Scarlett. Scarlett's here from
- 15:26the Ronald McDonald's house. We should talk a little bit
- 15:29about that before I tell you about vals car show
- 15:30that it puts on every year with the most parts
- 15:32of Bakersfield.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Scarlett, the Ronald McDonald House. Where's it at?
- 15:37Speaker 7: The Baker's Arond McDonald House is located directly behind Baker's
- 15:41Memorial Hospital on thirty fourth Street. But we do serve
- 15:44all of the local hospitals and outpatient care facilities for
- 15:49those families that have a child. And we will be
- 15:52open seventeen years. In about six weeks, June fourth will
- 15:57be our seventeenth birthday. And it's just it's been an
- 16:00amazing journey being there.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Now Scarlette comes in to talk about all the fundraisers
- 16:04that she has to support the Ronald McDonald Hospital. If
- 16:07you just want to donate, if you just want to
- 16:10support them in your own little way, you can absolutely
- 16:13do that anytime, any day, as long as.
- 16:16Speaker 1: They're open, or just drop it off at the front door.
- 16:18Somebody pick it up.
- 16:19Speaker 7: Yeah, you can come by. We're right behind Baker's with
- 16:21a memorial hospital. You can come in and tour and
- 16:25it's a short tour. It's a short tour. Yes we
- 16:28will not, Yes we are not. We are not a mansion,
- 16:32but we provide that comfort, care and support for families.
- 16:35Speaker 1: And you can also visit us on the web at
- 16:38our mc.
- 16:39Speaker 7: Sc dot org, backslash Baker's Old and check us out.
- 16:44Speaker 2: I will tell you something funny before we get the
- 16:46valve about the Ronald mcd. I live next to this
- 16:48guy for twelve years and I finally my neighbor finally
- 16:51met him at the.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Ronald McDonald j my neighbor. Hey, hey, we know each other. Yeah,
- 16:59we see each other at the box.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Hey. Well, all right, so you've got the most parts
- 17:02of Bakersfield. You've got the car show going on May night,
- 17:04that is Saturday. You got all makes and models.
- 17:08Speaker 6: Yes, they're all make some models we care if it's
- 17:11an RV anything.
- 17:12Speaker 4: If you want to pay the fee, you can go.
- 17:15Speaker 1: How did they join the car show?
- 17:18Speaker 4: The car show again.
- 17:19Speaker 6: We'll be on the ninth from seven o'clock to ten
- 17:22o'clock for the cars to come in, ten o'clock for
- 17:24the spectators to come in. There's free parking on the street.
- 17:27It's courtesy of the city, and we welcome everyone to come.
- 17:31It's our seventeenth year, as it is her seventeenth year
- 17:34with the House, and we've raised quite a bit of
- 17:37money over the years, but only by the support of
- 17:39the people bringing those cars and showing off their wares
- 17:42and bragging about what they do.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Yeah, we're courses of two hundred and fiftieth year.
- 17:46Speaker 4: We are going to have a lot of the military vehicles.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Oh nice, Oh that's awesome.
- 17:50Speaker 6: Olive draft people are going to bring to their vehicles,
- 17:52so we'll have those up front, and we'll have all
- 17:55kinds of contraptions on wheel I want to put it.
- 17:59Speaker 2: There will be food vendors out there. There will be
- 18:02activities for you guys to go out and check it out. Obviously,
- 18:05take the kids, take the family, go out and enjoy
- 18:08a few hours out there checking out all the cars.
- 18:10It will take you a little while to get through
- 18:12them all. You can talk to the guys. You can
- 18:14find out how they built them, you can find out
- 18:15what they did, you can find out more information before
- 18:18we all go electric and then will there be electric
- 18:20cars out there.
- 18:24Speaker 4: One thing, too, is our raffle every year is astronomical.
- 18:28Speaker 6: I mean, we have been very fortunate in getting a
- 18:30lot of stuff, and we take pride in saying that
- 18:33it is a very large raffle.
- 18:34Speaker 4: We have some very unique things thanks.
- 18:36Speaker 6: To Amazon, and of course this all benefits again the
- 18:40Ronal Madonald.
- 18:41Speaker 1: All right, you guys to go check it out.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Val Scarlett, thank you guys for stopping by May ninth
- 18:47over the Koa Campground or what do they call it, Kowa. Yeah,
- 18:53it's over there off a Wible road across from the
- 18:54Autumn Hall.
- 18:55Speaker 1: You guys go check it out. May ninth.
- 18:57Speaker 2: The car start showing up at seven spectators. You can
- 18:59get in ten. It's gonna be a great time. What
- 19:02do you send me here a room? Have you been
- 19:06watching the NBA playoffs? I haven't heard you talk about them.
- 19:09I know you always talk about football, but what do
- 19:11you think about the NBA?
- 19:14Speaker 1: You know, I've been trying. I try.
- 19:19Speaker 2: I mean I used to. I used to be a
- 19:22big NBA fan. We had season tickets. My family had
- 19:25season tickets to the to the Kings because that's where
- 19:29they lived. And I actually my first ever basketball game
- 19:33I ever went to was the Kings and the Lakers.
- 19:38But the NBA today, first of all, they're playing a
- 19:41seven game series for the first round of the playoffs.
- 19:44I think it used to be five. I think it
- 19:47used to be five, three or five. I mean, it's
- 19:50just absurd to play seven games like that. Just I've
- 19:55been trying to watch it, so I have no idea
- 19:57what's going on with it. But there's nobody appealing. I mean,
- 20:01there's no characters, there's no real The guys in the
- 20:05NBA now, I mean that they had a good run. Uh,
- 20:08Kobe obviously was an amazing Shaq was amazing. I'm trying
- 20:12to think the newest, you know, Steph Curry was pretty
- 20:15impressive for a while. But they don't have any real
- 20:22I mean, Lebron James is was just amazing when he
- 20:26came out of high school. And now he's kind of
- 20:28a joke, the way he flops around, and he might
- 20:32be he's kind of old and should probably have left,
- 20:35and so he's even become a joke. I mean, they're
- 20:37just who do you really want to watch? Who do
- 20:40you really want to see? You know, there's no there's
- 20:45no appeal to the NBA, not for me anymore. So,
- 20:48but I keep trying, I do. I keep trying to
- 20:51watch the playoffs. I mean, I turn it on every
- 20:53night to try to watch somewhat of the game, but
- 20:55they're just I just not I don't know. It's not
- 20:58the game I want to say, it's not. It's not
- 21:00the game I grew up with. So it's not the
- 21:02game I want to watch anymore. You know, things are
- 21:07just different. It's not appealing to me.
- 21:09Speaker 1: But I try. I mean, so I don't. I don't want.
- 21:11Speaker 2: But I don't know what you were asking if I know,
- 21:13I don't know anything about it, if that's what you're
- 21:15asking me, because I try to watch, I can watch
- 21:18for about five minutes and then I gotta go do something.
- 21:20Speaker 1: It's just it's not appealing to me.
- 21:21Speaker 2: So I mean, I guess that's why the NBA ratings.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Are not as good as they used to be.
- 21:26Speaker 2: It's not as popular as it once was, even though
- 21:28it's still pretty popular. So you can't you know, it's
- 21:32not a dying sport. But I don't know, I don't know.
- 21:36I guess there's just no real star in the NBA
- 21:40that that makes you want to watch, like like Kobe did,
- 21:44or like Tiger Woods did.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Or like I don't know.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I mean, the NFL still pumping out you know, still
- 21:50pumping out superstars, so you still want to watch that
- 21:53every year, But that's just me. I don't know already
- 21:57four to pot four, seven to seven. You know, even
- 22:01even with that show, hey show Otani, it makes uh
- 22:05makes me want to watch the Dodgers play. And I'm
- 22:07not a huge I was never a huge baseball fan,
- 22:10but even why I want to watch him play. So
- 22:12there's just no nobody in the NBA that really I think,
- 22:16does that for me. No main superstar that goes, yeah,
- 22:18I got to check out that guy.
- 22:20Speaker 1: All right?
- 22:21Speaker 2: So so really no, but I keep trying, Like tonight
- 22:25there are games on tonight. If there's games on tonight,
- 22:26I'll try to watch them, but it won't you know,
- 22:29a couple of minutes and I'll be out you.
- 22:32Speaker 8: You're so right with the NBA. Watched my Lakers last night.
- 22:35It's just so hard to watch dude, just like and
- 22:41then like the refs are giving this guy sengoon, this
- 22:44dude like from Europe on the Hawks team. Guys, this
- 22:48dude's like the most awkward dudes falling and tripping and
- 22:50they're giving him. Who are you trying to make a
- 22:56star man clumsy?
- 22:58Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 22:58Speaker 2: I mean giving this guy files before Lebron.
- 23:04Speaker 8: It's like they're trying to bring up any young dude
- 23:06that got the euro move or something. I don't know, dude,
- 23:09it's it's bad.
- 23:10Speaker 1: It's just there's just something about it.
- 23:13Speaker 2: And you're right, there's just nobody to root for where
- 23:16you just go, wow, this is this, you know, like
- 23:18like I don't know Michael Jordan's he was just so
- 23:21even when you hated him, he was still you wanted
- 23:23to root for him.
- 23:23Speaker 1: He just there was some there's just no personality.
- 23:26Speaker 8: I hate the most was Barry Bird dude, because you
- 23:30know we hated him, but he was so because he
- 23:33was so good.
- 23:34Speaker 1: There's just no personality in the.
- 23:37Speaker 8: Him, right, And then all of them now are like, oh,
- 23:40I'm tired, I'm sitting out, you know, just like Katie
- 23:44yesterday sitting on the bench. Dude, his team's playing and
- 23:46he's just like, it's just if they get all this money,
- 23:50all they want to do is sit down, rest and complain.
- 23:55Speaker 1: All right, thank you're going.
- 23:58Speaker 2: I mean, there's and that's what I I mean, that's
- 24:00why I say I just can't watch the NBA anymore.
- 24:02I try, I still try. There's just nobody there's just
- 24:05nobody to love in the NBA. There it's embarrassing, to
- 24:09be honest with you. If you look at the if
- 24:11you look at the athletes from the nineties and two
- 24:14thousands in the NBA's to what you have now, it's it's.
- 24:16Speaker 1: It's it's just not the same.
- 24:18Speaker 4: All right.
- 24:19Speaker 2: So when it comes to the NBA, somebody who's asking me,
- 24:21I've been watching the playoffs and I haven't been. I've
- 24:23been trying to because I was a fan of the
- 24:25NBA for a lot of years, a couple of decades
- 24:29growing up, and they just there's just nothing that's appealing
- 24:34about it today. So I try, I mean I try,
- 24:38but it's just.
- 24:39Speaker 1: I don't know what.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Uh, there's no there's no personalities, there's nobody to root for.
- 24:45There's no one star that you just are two stars go,
- 24:48oh my god, I gotta watch these guys. These guys
- 24:49are so great, they draw you in, and they don't.
- 24:52I mean, it's just not there anymore. Wendby as a star, Well, yeah,
- 24:59he's a star in the end, but who's that. If
- 25:03I don't know who he is, then he's not a
- 25:07global sensation in the way that I don't even I
- 25:10don't even I've never been a huge baseball fan, but
- 25:16shoe Otani makes me want to watch the Dodgers because
- 25:20he's so impressive and he's so like he just draws
- 25:22you in.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Wenby doesn't do that. I don't even know who he is.
- 25:26Speaker 2: You know, Tiger Woods drew people to golf like you
- 25:29wouldn't believe people that didn't even like golf or know
- 25:32what golf was.
- 25:34Speaker 1: You know, hey, Roan.
- 25:35Speaker 2: They need to bring back some physicality to the NBA.
- 25:38Everybody cries about the fouls. The ref calls everything except
- 25:43for travel, and the players are always looking at the
- 25:46refs for a call instead of playing. When I played,
- 25:49you played until the whistle was blown. I mean, that's
- 25:51probably fair. You're probably right about that. I mean, but
- 25:55there's just even with the rule changes and the things
- 25:58like that, you can if you still had a personality,
- 26:03if you still had somebody that you you know, you know,
- 26:06like Burden Magic, you know, they that confrontation made you
- 26:12want to watch even if you weren't a fan of
- 26:14the NBA.
- 26:14Speaker 1: So just it's just not the same, all.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Right, eight four two to four seven seven, we're talking
- 26:20about the NBA. Somebody was asking me if I've been
- 26:22watching at night. I'm trying to, but I can't. It's
- 26:25just not appealing. It's not it's not exciting, it's there's nothing.
- 26:30There's nothing really that makes me want.
- 26:33Speaker 1: To watch it. But I try. I keep trying.
- 26:36Speaker 2: A Rome Critics argue the modern NBA feels like a
- 26:41joke or inferior product due to lack of physicality, excessive
- 26:46three point shooting, and poor officiating. The league is criticized
- 26:50for high volume shooting regardless of players skill, excessive load management,
- 26:54players sitting out, and a focus on superstar calls that
- 26:59disrupted the game flow. Huh, I think AI just chat.
- 27:04GPT just sent me a text message. I feel the
- 27:09same about boxing. It's become a joke. Yeah, boxing has become.
- 27:14Speaker 1: A little bit of a joke. You're right, You're right.
- 27:17Morrian Holp's going on?
- 27:18Speaker 8: Hey, what's up?
- 27:19Speaker 4: Room?
- 27:19Speaker 3: Hey?
- 27:19Speaker 4: What are going on?
- 27:21Speaker 9: Hey?
- 27:21Speaker 10: Man?
- 27:21Speaker 8: These a lot of these like the big sports They
- 27:23say Lebron James and everything they ruined the sports bro
- 27:26like the way they throw their tous on the floor
- 27:27and start flopping and all that. When you know, with
- 27:30these TVs you could see everything clear now, you know,
- 27:32what I mean's not like back in the days you
- 27:33couldn't see that clear. But even now, the like the
- 27:39youth kids. We just had tournament over the weekend room
- 27:42and a little girl with nobody was doing here and
- 27:44she hit the ground and started flopping like a fish
- 27:46coming out of the water, you know what I mean.
- 27:49So did she get take the fun out of the sports?
- 27:52Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 27:53Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 27:54Speaker 8: Yeah, okay, so yeah they need to start. What they
- 27:58need to do is start pat uh by getting to
- 28:00give them penalty and stuff for faking it room. That's
- 28:02what they need to do so they could stop doing
- 28:04and they could just play the real games.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Oh, I think they were gonna start. I think they
- 28:07were good. They were talking about that. I remember.
- 28:11Speaker 2: I mean, he's not wrong, but Lebron James was, uh
- 28:15the Lebron James thing now is kind of new, him flopping.
- 28:19He used to be pretty dominant, pretty uh a really
- 28:23good basketball player. Now he just you know, looks like
- 28:25an old man flopping around. But there's just nobody to
- 28:30like or hate. You know, that's kind of a problem
- 28:34you have to have. I mean, these sports, the competitive
- 28:38the competitiveness of it is one thing, but if you
- 28:43don't have anybody to root for or root against. Then
- 28:49it's it's not a good product. It's just not so
- 28:55I mean, but whatever, I mean they're doing NBA. I
- 28:58know they're losing, losing radio, but they're not I don't
- 29:01think they're gonna disappear anytime soon. But it's just not
- 29:06it's just not something to watch, even when you go
- 29:09to the you know, like yeah, so yeah, but I
- 29:14keep trying. I'll keep trying, you know, a few minutes
- 29:17a night. But the playoffs are just.
- 29:19Speaker 1: God, that's so boring. I don't know why. The game
- 29:23is just so boring.
- 29:24Speaker 2: They say baseball is boring, but my god, the NBA
- 29:27is just so boring to watch.
- 29:29Speaker 1: It's hard to watch.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Thursday, So Michael Bean is here for the Marriaging Family
- 29:33Center six three two seven fifty one hundred.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Good morning, Michael, Good morning. How's everything going.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Hey, I can't complain, can you. I mean, you're pretty good.
- 29:51Speaker 1: So the other day we're.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Having a conversation about relationships, and it was it was
- 29:58a little bit different.
- 29:59Speaker 1: It was about people I'm not getting what they want
- 30:01out of the relationship, and I was just kind of
- 30:05obviously it's not something that you would do.
- 30:07Speaker 2: But I was telling people that it's okay to get
- 30:09out of relationships. And if something you're not getting what
- 30:13you want and you there's nothing you chose to be
- 30:18in the relationship, you can choose to leave. Now, let
- 30:21me preference that now that you're here, people choose to leave.
- 30:27I believe over things that can be fixed and they
- 30:32don't think they can fix them. So maybe that's why
- 30:34they leave, or they just stay.
- 30:38Speaker 1: There and be unhappy in a relationship.
- 30:42Speaker 2: But the idea that most things, I mean, there's a
- 30:45couple of things that obviously we're not going to talk
- 30:47about that are on very black and white you gotta
- 30:50get out. But a lot of the things that people
- 30:54have issues within the relationship that they're unhappy with, I
- 30:59gotta believe or fitable. You know that there are things
- 31:03there that you go, well, she doesn't. And I'll give
- 31:05you the perfect example of what we're talking about. The
- 31:07guy goes, I don't get enough sex in my relationship. Well,
- 31:11do you know why that is? Maybe you're not doing enough,
- 31:14maybe she's not you know, But to me, that's fixable
- 31:18for the most part.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Or chores or economics. I think stuff like that is fixable.
- 31:24What do you think about that, Michael, I mean.
- 31:27Speaker 3: There are a lot of things that are fixable, and
- 31:32nobody really jumps out of a relationship, and let's they
- 31:35really are convinced that it's beyond repair. There are a
- 31:39couple of things about us humans that we just want
- 31:42the relationship to continue. First of all, we are just
- 31:45a pair making species. We just don't like to be alone,
- 31:49you know, so we prefer to have a partner. And
- 31:51the other thing is we like tomorrow to be predictable.
- 31:55We want to wake up with the same people in
- 31:57our lives, you know. And if we get out of
- 32:00a relationship, that gets rid of a lot of predictability.
- 32:03And so because of at least those two things, probably
- 32:06other things, but at least those two things, now we
- 32:09do we wait until we're just really discouraged, we're convinced
- 32:13that the same can't be changed, before we'll before we'll
- 32:17leave a relationship.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Would you agree with like I would?
- 32:21Speaker 2: Probably would you agree that most things, almost everything in
- 32:25a relationship, if you guys are really want to be
- 32:28with each other, that most things are fixable with communication,
- 32:33with help from a therapist, with somebody that can or
- 32:38just wanting to do it and be with that person.
- 32:43Speaker 11: Well.
- 32:44Speaker 3: I have seen in working with my clients that there
- 32:48are many things that are fixable that people did not
- 32:51think that they were at all. I've also seen that
- 32:56fixing it can look really different than the people thought.
- 33:00You have an idea in your mind of the solution
- 33:02for a problem. It's not working, but you keep trying it.
- 33:06It's not working. Well, there may be other solutions, you know.
- 33:09So just because you keep beating your head against the
- 33:12wall doesn't mean you can't move a little bit to
- 33:14the left. Yeah, but you can kind of go through,
- 33:18you know, continuing to beat your head against But no,
- 33:21we do. We continue to keep doing things that aren't working,
- 33:24and we become convinced that, oh, this is just an
- 33:27intractable problem.
- 33:29Speaker 2: And when you and like you said, we keep doing
- 33:32things that aren't working. Somebody might leave a relationship over
- 33:37something that if they were to have just talked with somebody,
- 33:41it could have helped them and gotten to another relationship,
- 33:43and now a few years down the road they're having
- 33:45the exact same problem that they were in the previous relationship.
- 33:50Speaker 3: Very true, Sometimes your partner needs to hear it from
- 33:55a third person who they can tell it cares about
- 33:58the relationship, but kind of as an unbiased person when
- 34:03they hear it from you, I don't know, there's this
- 34:06kind of thing that is just like, well, that's your opinion.
- 34:11Speaker 8: I mean we do.
- 34:13Speaker 3: We tend to kind of discount it in some way
- 34:15because we think, well, I hear what you're saying and everything,
- 34:19I just can't kind of see it like that. And
- 34:21then we hear it from this third person and all
- 34:23of a sudden like, oh, you know that makes sense.
- 34:26The partner just looks at them like.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Am telling you.
- 34:32Speaker 12: All of a sudden, I don't know what.
- 34:33Speaker 3: It is about that, but that can really help. And
- 34:35then the other thing is, yeah, just coming up with
- 34:38a different solution than you pictured in your mind, just
- 34:40looking at the problem a little bit differently, seeing it
- 34:43from a different point of view. You as the person
- 34:47might need to change how you're going about trying to
- 34:50solve it too. So either one of those two things
- 34:53can make it just really helpful to talk to somebody.
- 34:56Speaker 2: I want to talk about that next Michael. Michael Being
- 34:58is here for the Marriaging Family Center.
- 35:00Speaker 1: I want to talk a.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Little bit about what people are doing in the relationship
- 35:05to help get what they want out of their partner.
- 35:08Speaker 1: That might sound that don't Yeah, we'll talk about it.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Michael Being is here from the Marriage of Family Center
- 35:13and that six six one three two seven fifty one
- 35:16one hundred.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Good morning, Michael, Oh, good morning, this idea.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Sorry, Michael and I were talking about the air and
- 35:24I just said, people are stupid.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Because people are.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Stupid, I get just a little bit amazed at your
- 35:32low opinion of humanity. Sometimes I see people doing the
- 35:37same things and I and I am curious about it, and
- 35:40I'm interested in it. I sometimes have compassion for it.
- 35:43I'm like, oh, these poor people are but I don't's
- 35:46just kind of go to so stupid.
- 35:48Speaker 8: Well, I don't know.
- 35:50Speaker 2: I just sometimes maybe it's just because I've been talking
- 35:53to you for so many years, I feel like I'm
- 35:54just so much smarter than all these idiots in their
- 35:57relationships fighting over the dumbest things that very irrelevant. And
- 36:01then when you start to look at your life and go, man,
- 36:04I just I want to be happy.
- 36:06Speaker 1: I want to enjoy my life with somebody.
- 36:08Speaker 2: I want to have dinner, I want to have sex,
- 36:10I want to talk, I want to do these things.
- 36:13Speaker 1: You know, run errant. But people get so damn I
- 36:17don't know what it is, Michael.
- 36:19Speaker 2: They just I don't know, if they're afraid they're going
- 36:21to be taking advantage of by by going to grocery
- 36:25shopping with their wife or holding their purse, or she.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Doesn't if she actually you know, has.
- 36:30Speaker 2: To make dinner one night that she's being you know,
- 36:34some thrown in the kitchen, or all these ideas of
- 36:37things that people want out of each other that all
- 36:41have to get done anyways, they just want to fight
- 36:44about it.
- 36:45Speaker 1: They just want to Oh.
- 36:46Speaker 2: I mean, it's almost like they're both puffing their chests
- 36:49out at each other to find out who's going.
- 36:50Speaker 1: To control everything.
- 36:52Speaker 2: But when you're in a relationship, you would think that
- 36:56would be the one person you're not trying to battle.
- 37:01I see, I see these people. That's why I say
- 37:03they're so stupid. You know, I just don't know.
- 37:07Speaker 3: My god, Well, you definitely have some stuff figured out.
- 37:12Speaker 12: But I also want to point out that when you,
- 37:13when I first started talking eleven hundred years ago or
- 37:16whenever that was, you really taught things needed to be fair,
- 37:21and if they weren't, you know that it's just you
- 37:23had to address that and if you weren't, you weren't
- 37:26being a man, or you had all these kind of
- 37:28different things that Sure, now you've really kind of come
- 37:31around and kind of seeing that, Wait.
- 37:32Speaker 3: A minute, maybe there's more. Maybe there's more important things
- 37:35I could worry about.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Once again, once again, my age.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Why I'm smarter than everybody in Beggarsville Because I'm capable
- 37:43of changing for the better. That's why I'm smarter than them. Also,
- 37:47they're so stupid.
- 37:49Speaker 3: That's that's fine. But some compassion for some of the
- 37:53people who haven't quite gotten there yet. No, it's true.
- 37:57We do. We dig our heels in in all the
- 37:59wrong times. We kind of feel like we have to
- 38:01make an issue of things that maybe we don't have
- 38:03to make an issue up. But maybe there's other things
- 38:06that need to be addressed that I'm making. Those shoes
- 38:09that are being left on the floor seems so important.
- 38:12You know, I'm not mad about the shoes that are
- 38:14on the floor, but every time I see them, I
- 38:16remember how disrespected I feel or whatever whatever thing is
- 38:21going on in a relationship that's not needfulfilling.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Now, you're right about that.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Now, let me just give you something that came up
- 38:28the other day, Michael, a guy said, as his wife
- 38:32called he was at work, she was just having a
- 38:35bad day.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Called to say she was frustrated, she was tired, blah blah.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Blah, whatever it was, right, So he says, you know what,
- 38:40let me let me get off work a little early.
- 38:42I'm going to go pick up dinner for the kids
- 38:44and the family so that she doesn't have to do anything.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Right.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Yeah, Apparently she got home and was pissed off because
- 38:51she had pulled out something for dinner and now she
- 38:54didn't have to. Her plan was messed up for dinner
- 38:57because he went and tried to do something nice she thought, was,
- 39:01you know, gonna help her take a little load off
- 39:03her plate, and she was pissed off about that. So
- 39:06we kind of concluded that she was just having a
- 39:08bad day and took it out on him, which happens, right,
- 39:13But why do we do that? Why do we why
- 39:20little things that help in the relationship and people just
- 39:27want to fight about it. They just want to, like
- 39:29you said, dig their heels in over something that is
- 39:32so irrelevant in the big scheme of things of our
- 39:36lives and our relationships and our humanity.
- 39:39Speaker 1: To be honest, with you.
- 39:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I know, I know. In that moment, it feels like, wow,
- 39:48this is the thing I just absolutely have to focus
- 39:50on in the bigger picture. You know, maybe not. But
- 39:55how do I change these habits? That's another thing we
- 39:57haven't talked about.
- 39:58Speaker 11: You know.
- 39:58Speaker 3: We pick up habits sometimes than just in the families
- 40:01we grew up in, and we carry those forward into
- 40:03our relationships. They don't work at all. We just don't
- 40:06get our needs met in a long term, or if
- 40:08they do, it's super temporary. And yes, I get my
- 40:13damn sandwich right now, but in the future, you're not
- 40:17looking to see how you can maybe, you know, do
- 40:19something nice for me. You're just trying to keep your
- 40:20distance a little bit, yeah, and protect your sense of
- 40:23you know, kind of just I don't know, respect, you know.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Let me ask you this real quick, Michael. If I
- 40:29do something nice for you and you go and it's
- 40:32something that.
- 40:35Speaker 2: You don't how do I say this, Not that you
- 40:37don't think it's nice, but it's not really what you want?
- 40:40I say, Okay, Yeah, shouldn't we just shut up and
- 40:43say thank you?
- 40:45Speaker 1: He tried. She tried.
- 40:46Speaker 2: It wasn't really what I wanted, but they were trying
- 40:49to do something nice for me in a positive way.
- 40:52But it seems like a lot in our relationships. We'll
- 40:55sit there and make a snide comment, well, I don't
- 40:57like that. Flowers just die.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Why do you buy me flowers? They just die?
- 41:00Speaker 2: When you're going, well, I just thought it'd be nice
- 41:02for you buy some flowers, say thank you, shut up,
- 41:05you move on with your day.
- 41:06Speaker 1: You know. Yeah, we do that a lot.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Yeah, there's there's the attempts that we make, and then
- 41:12there's there's how it lands. You know, this is my intent,
- 41:15this is what I want to do, but then there's
- 41:17how it actually hits. And uh yeah, sometimes we get
- 41:21it wrong and we need to fess up and kind
- 41:23of go. You know, if i'd have thought that through
- 41:24a little bit more, I might have realized you could
- 41:26have made plan, maybe communicated it a little bit better,
- 41:29and maybe thought of a different way than I could
- 41:31have helped. Because she usually does get something out for
- 41:34dinner or yeah, you know something maybe, but I kind
- 41:39of like the way you said it. You know, she
- 41:41was just having a bad day. Why maybe there wasn't
- 41:44anything that he could have done for I don't know.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, exactly exactly nothing would have been better than trying.
- 41:52Speaker 1: I guess, I don't. I don't know. I just it
- 41:55seems like in relationships.
- 41:58Speaker 2: They people just become so bative and so competitive, and
- 42:01so I don't get it, Michael, and I don't understand.
- 42:05I just I can't do that for you because my
- 42:07friends will make fun of me if I hold your
- 42:08person them all, Well, that's your wife, who the hell
- 42:11care you just sitting there home? Look first, what does
- 42:13that really mean? Means nothing except she likes it, you know,
- 42:17or vice versa.
- 42:18Speaker 8: You know.
- 42:19Speaker 1: I just I don't understand how we get there.
- 42:22Speaker 2: But that's why, once again I say people are stupid,
- 42:25because it's pretty obvious when you and I talk about it, right,
- 42:28we're not We're not, you know, reinventing the wheel.
- 42:31Speaker 1: We're not solving world hunger.
- 42:33Speaker 2: We're telling you, exactly, be nicer to your spouse, and
- 42:36your spouse may be nicer to you.
- 42:38Speaker 3: Well, we're also not in this relationship where we've chronically
- 42:41not gotten our needs, Matt, where we've been trying to
- 42:44kind of assert ourselves in some important ways to us
- 42:46and it hasn't worked. So I just want to have
- 42:49compassion for these people who are hearing this and doing
- 42:52these guys just don't understand. You know, this is this
- 42:55is my life is way more complicated than they're making
- 42:58it seem.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Well, you have compassion, and I'll call him stupid. All right,
- 43:01Michael Beats here for the Marriage and Family Center. All right,
- 43:04Michael beat Us here for the Marriage and Family Center.
- 43:07Six one three, Tier seven fifty one.
- 43:09Speaker 1: Good morning, Michael, Well, good morning. We talked a little bit.
- 43:14Speaker 2: About relationships, and I was saying the other day, Michael,
- 43:17I think most things are fixable. You know, most things
- 43:20that people do they can fix in a relationship if
- 43:24they really want to, if they truly want to, you know,
- 43:27And I think I think about eighty percent of the
- 43:30things that we fight over in relationships are nonsense, not
- 43:36nonsense to the other person, but are kind of nonsense
- 43:40in the big scheme of things.
- 43:42Speaker 1: And there's no real reason.
- 43:43Speaker 2: To be unhappy if you've decided, Oh, I got to
- 43:47talk about that, Michael.
- 43:48Speaker 1: He just thought of something else too. I gotta focus.
- 43:57Speaker 2: But anyway, I think that we give up before and
- 44:04really don't understand that the nonsense that we broke up
- 44:08over was fixable, and then we go to the next
- 44:11relationship and we have the same problem, and we go
- 44:14see it was them, No, it was you. It's the
- 44:18same problem you left this relationship over, which was totally
- 44:21fixable if you has had a conversation and a little
- 44:24bit of help, right.
- 44:25Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, good point, good point. And I'm right down
- 44:28that other idea you had. I am right now, right
- 44:32now while we're talking. But yeah, you know what you said,
- 44:37if they really want to fix it, and I would
- 44:39add one one other thing to that, if they believe
- 44:42they can. You've got to really want it, and you've
- 44:45got to believe as possible. And sometimes going to that
- 44:48third neutral party and talking about your relationship can open
- 44:53your eyes to maybe a possibility that you weren't looking
- 44:56at before that maybe maybe it could be fixable. So
- 45:01be careful before you determine that something isn't fixable. A
- 45:05couple of things are just really really difficult. Maybe one
- 45:09of them impossible to fix. The really difficult one is
- 45:12if you've broken trust with each other multiple times. It
- 45:15is really really difficult to regain trust when it's been
- 45:18broken multiple times. If you physically harmed each other, or
- 45:22if you've cheated on each other. You know, if it's
- 45:24just really gotten, you've just crossed lines multiple times. It's
- 45:28going to be very, very difficult to trust yourself or
- 45:31that other person in that relationship. That's really tough. It's
- 45:34not impossible, but you've got to start really small and
- 45:38progress looks very different than you think it might, and yeah,
- 45:42it's really tough. And the other one is that about
- 45:45three to seven percent of Americans are true narcissists. They
- 45:52just don't have it in them to have compassion for
- 45:55other people. They just kind of can't see from someone
- 45:57else's point of view. They just can't do it. It's
- 45:59all about them. A lot of these people tend to
- 46:02kind of have a sort of a criminal mindset where
- 46:04it's what I can get away with, you know, or
- 46:06there's one over on someone else. But about yeah, about
- 46:10somewhere between. Well, they kind of estimate that in women
- 46:14is about maybe up to five percent, per men is
- 46:16up to maybe seven percent. So there's some number in there. Uh,
- 46:20there is a percentage of people who just lack the
- 46:22ability to have compassion. Brothers, that's going to be a
- 46:25really difficult relationship. If you want to have a relationship
- 46:27with somebody who can actually have some give and takes
- 46:29who can see things from your perspective. That's going to
- 46:32be really tough with a narcissist.
- 46:34Speaker 1: So when we talk about these things that are fixable.
- 46:36Speaker 2: And things that are a couple of things you brought
- 46:38up that the trust, the giving, I don't think those
- 46:41are fixable.
- 46:41Speaker 1: And I don't care if you fix that or not.
- 46:43Speaker 2: That's not I just see there are some things from
- 46:48one side where you just go, you know what it ended.
- 46:50You made a mistake, a bad mistake. There's no coming
- 46:54back from it, and there really shouldn't be. Move on
- 46:55to somebody else who's going to treat you and never
- 46:58do that to you better. I just see these little
- 47:01things where you're arguing, like you said, we've always done
- 47:04so getting old. The shoes he comes home, he leaves
- 47:07the shoes on the ground, are in the you know,
- 47:09in the living room every day, or she comes home
- 47:11and throws the kicks her shoes off in the living room.
- 47:13Speaker 1: It just I don't like it. It's dirty, it's messy,
- 47:16it's whatever. We find about that every.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Day for you know, a year, and now all of
- 47:20a sudden it turns into we always argue, Well what
- 47:25do you always argue about? What we argue about everything. No,
- 47:29you really just argued about the shoes. And you've always said, Michael,
- 47:34they you know, they both have a point. But to me,
- 47:37that's stupid and fixable. But now it turns into this
- 47:40bigger issue of we're always arguing and now it's more combative.
- 47:46When the idea was if you understand each other, then
- 47:50we don't have to go there.
- 47:53Speaker 3: Yeah, argument gets so tough, especially when there's defensiveness. Couple
- 47:58say that when defensiveness it's into the argument, their number
- 48:02one feeling is hopelessness. They just feel like this is hopeless.
- 48:07Once you get into that kind of well, now we're
- 48:10not even listening to each other, we're just trying to
- 48:11not be wrong. Oh, it's discouraging. It's just it's just
- 48:15so discouraging when you get into that. So, yeah, overcoming
- 48:20those habits of argument, it's just really really important. You're
- 48:23gonna have disagreements. It doesn't mean you have to agree
- 48:25on everything. In fact, you'll figure out how to disagree
- 48:28and get along just fine, but you do have to
- 48:31figure out how to not get into that cycle of
- 48:35escalating arguments where all of a sudden that other person
- 48:37becomes the enemy.
- 48:38Speaker 4: Yeah, all right.
- 48:39Speaker 2: Michael Bean is here from the Marriage in Family Center
- 48:41six six one three two seven of fifty one hundred.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Michael Bean is here from the Marriage and Family Center.
- 48:48Speaker 2: That's Marriage Family Center six six one three two seven
- 48:52fifty one one hundred. Hey Michael, Yeah, okay, I just
- 48:56wanted to bring something up about the narcisstics.
- 48:59Speaker 1: Not everybody's.
- 49:00Speaker 2: Just because you and your your spouse have an argument
- 49:03doesn't mean they're a narcissistic person.
- 49:05Speaker 1: It could just be a bad day or a bad whatever.
- 49:07Speaker 3: I don't people, Oh that's so important.
- 49:10Speaker 2: I mean absolutely, you know, I think most people know
- 49:15when they're and would you say three to five percent
- 49:17or five to seven percent of people men and women.
- 49:20You know, we all know, right, we know, we know
- 49:22our friends who are narcissistic.
- 49:24Speaker 1: We know.
- 49:24Speaker 3: The time you yeah, the time you don't know is
- 49:27when you're in an unhappy relationship Because when you're in
- 49:30the middle of this relationship just sort of pleading for
- 49:33your needs to get met and they're not being met,
- 49:35they could maybe not not be being that for a
- 49:37lot of reasons. Yeah, but all of a sudden, you're
- 49:39looking at your partner through these different these different lenses
- 49:44that are convincing you that, well, it just must be
- 49:47their character or they change, they're not the person they
- 49:50pretended to be when we were going out, or maybe
- 49:53I mean, it's possible that they're sort of covered up
- 49:55there narcissism. But do get a second or third or
- 49:58coment on that us. They can really look like you're
- 50:02with a narcissist when when you're not getting your.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Needs met, when you're not and there there could just
- 50:06be other things going on that you just don't really
- 50:09know about. Maybe we should talk about that one sometimes
- 50:13one time, Michael, over the next few weeks. Is people
- 50:15going through relationships and not understanding why their spouse is changing.
- 50:20It may be for you know, work may have changed
- 50:22or something they're not telling them that just might be
- 50:25causing issues that have nothing to do with with them
- 50:29being narcissistic or with them being or anything to do
- 50:33with the spouse. I mean, how many times does that happen, Michael,
- 50:36Where a guy just doesn't want to talk about what's
- 50:38going on at work, so it's causing problems at home
- 50:40and you're going, well.
- 50:41Speaker 1: What's going on here? Is it me? No, it's you
- 50:43know something some outside.
- 50:45Speaker 3: Factor, yeah, or some relationship dynamic that you haven't recognized,
- 50:49but it's sort of playing itself out that way a
- 50:51lot of times. That's what's happening.
- 50:53Speaker 9: All right.
- 50:53Speaker 1: Michael Being is here for the Marriage of Family Center.
- 50:55Hold on something to four point one.
- 50:56Speaker 2: Michael Being is here for the Marriage and Family Center
- 50:59six six one three Team seven.
- 51:01Speaker 1: Fifty one hundred. Good morning, Michael, Good morning. Oh sorry, Michael.
- 51:06Are you there now?
- 51:07Speaker 3: Good morning?
- 51:08Speaker 1: Oh there you are, all right, Michael. I want to
- 51:11tell before we get you out of here about this
- 51:13idea of what we do in our relationship.
- 51:18Speaker 2: We get married, we live together, maybe if we both work,
- 51:22If one of us works, one of us stays home.
- 51:25Traditionally there's these roles that said, Okay, if I go
- 51:28to work all day, you stay at home and take
- 51:30care of the kids, or do the we clean the
- 51:32house and cook dinner or whatever.
- 51:36Speaker 1: How do we figure that out as a couple. We
- 51:40don't talk about it.
- 51:41Speaker 2: I mean, I'd love to hear one one couples say,
- 51:45you know what, when we got together, we said this.
- 51:48Speaker 1: Is what I'm gonna do, this is what he's gonna do.
- 51:50Speaker 2: And we're gonna, you know, go from there. I don't
- 51:53people believe people do that. I think they just hope
- 51:56it happens.
- 51:59Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot of our lives kind of mesh a
- 52:01little bit when we're becoming a couple. You know, our
- 52:04social lives kind of start to mesh a little bit,
- 52:07but we still have kind of a separate, a little
- 52:09bit separate social life than our partner. And then we
- 52:12have a different work life, usually from them, and a
- 52:16lot of that kind of gets sorted out in the
- 52:17beginning of the relationship. Oh, I see, you're going to
- 52:19be away during this time. I'm going to be away
- 52:21during this time. And yeah, sometimes those things aren't very
- 52:26compatible for the relationship. Sometimes, Hey, I work at night,
- 52:30you work during the day. We never see each other.
- 52:31You know, we wave at each other as we pass.
- 52:34That's almost much of a relationship. Yeah, so yeah, I mean,
- 52:38those things they do have to be worked out. They
- 52:40usually are in that partnering phase well, but they don't.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Work about Michael, you know, you've seen it happen over
- 52:49the year. You probably, I'm sure you've seen it happen.
- 52:51Speaker 2: The guy who you know, she marries, the guy who
- 52:53works ten hours a day because he's such a hard worker,
- 52:57he's going to provide for the family because he's you know,
- 53:00and he will. And then a five years in she's like,
- 53:03you're never home. You don't never see you. Well, that's
- 53:08because I'm over here trying to provide this life.
- 53:10Speaker 1: That you want it.
- 53:12Speaker 2: Not in a negative way, but you you signed up
- 53:14for this and now.
- 53:16Speaker 1: You're not about it.
- 53:18Speaker 3: Yeah, or even maybe more common five years later, she says,
- 53:21you know, I'd like to go back to school. I
- 53:22started studying this thing and I actually like to kind
- 53:25of finish up that degree or whatever. And he's like, well,
- 53:27wait a minute, but I married somebody who wanted to
- 53:30be at home. So we talked. We talked off the
- 53:32air about this idea of you know, people change over
- 53:35time and how much change should be, okay, should be
- 53:39how much change should we sort of expect to have
- 53:41to go along with and when is it something that
- 53:45we didn't sign up for? And that is an important
- 53:48question that a lot of couples have to kind of
- 53:49work out.
- 53:51Speaker 1: The more couples work that out than not, Michael, and.
- 53:55Speaker 3: More couples work it out than that. My fear is
- 53:58that a lot of couples sort of settle, uh, they
- 54:02just you know, things, things aren't as good as when
- 54:05as before, and I guess we just have to put
- 54:08up with it. Instead of figuring out how to actually
- 54:10turn it into a positive for their relationship, they just
- 54:14they just kind of said, well, Okay, I'll just go
- 54:16along and yeah, go along with.
- 54:18Speaker 1: It, don't the boat? Are we that afraid of being alone?
- 54:23Michael is human beings?
- 54:26Speaker 3: Well, like I said, we have those compelling reasons of
- 54:30wanting to partner up and also wanting our lives to
- 54:33be predictable to stay in relationships. Okay, but if you're
- 54:37going to stay in the relationship, why not put the
- 54:39effort into it that you need to to make it
- 54:41a need fulfilling relationship. Well, one of the reasons, like
- 54:45we've talked about all during this whole discussion today, is
- 54:49because I become convinced that I can't, because I become
- 54:52convinced I'm just not going to get all my needs met,
- 54:55so I just have to lump it. Maybe maybe you
- 54:59haven't tried every Maybe you haven't tried some things in
- 55:02a way that would even work. Maybe you've tried it,
- 55:05but you didn't implement it in a way that your
- 55:07relationship paid it to. Please go to an expert, get
- 55:11that second opinion or third and kind of explore that, because, yeah,
- 55:16moving on is tough, and particularly when there are kids involved,
- 55:21they they don't want that disruption for them. It feels
- 55:25like their world is being torn apart for us adults,
- 55:28and that's fine. We can move on, we can make
- 55:30our decisions or whatever, but then we end up dragging these.
- 55:32Speaker 4: Kids through it.
- 55:33Speaker 3: Then that's just not fair to them.
- 55:35Speaker 1: All right, Michael Bean, I appreciate you coming on this morning.
- 55:38Speaker 2: The Marriage of a Family Center six x one three
- 55:41two seven fifty one hundred.

- 1:10:38out of your embarrassing now.
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: What why did you marry him three times?

- 1:10:54for like two three months. But our obviously divorce went through.
- 1:10:59Speaker 15: So we got married again and we had our, you know,
- 1:11:01our second little ceremony, and come to find out that
- 1:11:04one didn't go through, so we had to get married
- 1:11:07the third time. And that work the work.
- 1:11:11Speaker 9: We've been divorced the past four years.

- 1:11:51I had the corn up in the air.
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: I bet it was There's nothing more embarrassing than falling
- 1:12:02in front of people.
- 1:12:03Speaker 13: I took my son out to the park the little
- 1:12:07festivities who ate some buckles and the old of the
- 1:12:11lady in between two trash cans.

- 1:12:23And she was wearing a nice little dress with some
- 1:12:27cowboy boots, you know.
- 1:12:28Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:12:29Speaker 13: So then she goes, can you go and find my
- 1:12:32husband for me?
- 1:12:34Speaker 16: And I'm like, yeah, what is he wearing?
- 1:12:36Speaker 13: So she was telling me, and then she moved like
