- 1:04Speaker 1: is a corner for the Cougars. Also, Rylan Williams will
- 1:08Speaker 1: get to him and just a bit offensive line defensive line.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Patrick will come in.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Brother, how you doing Yeah, I'm doing good.
- 1:12Speaker 1: So you said you've been here for quite a bit.
- 1:14Speaker 1: And of course, as I always say, when coaches give
- 1:17Speaker 1: you the microphone. They obviously trusting you this is your
- 1:20Speaker 1: senior year, kind of take us through what it's been
- 1:22Speaker 1: like to play for coach Cooper and play for the Cougars.
- 1:24Speaker 3: It's been a really amazing journey, you know, starting from
- 1:27Speaker 3: middle school, you know, you know, just getting knowing your teammates,
- 1:29Speaker 3: knowing getting really knowing football, and now all the way
- 1:32Speaker 3: to my senior year has just been a very very good,
- 1:34Speaker 3: progressive journey, you know.
- 1:36Speaker 1: And with everything, how's how's the camp been so far
- 1:38Speaker 1: for you guys, It's been good.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Adkins has been very good.
- 1:41Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:41Speaker 3: We've been getting you know, feating out some mall mistakes,
- 1:43Speaker 3: getting everything going and getting ready for this game on Friday.
- 1:46Speaker 1: And of course Terry coming in and then you guys
- 1:48Speaker 1: will travel to Germantown next week. Corner man, it's a
- 1:52Speaker 1: it's a tough position to play. And I say that
- 1:54Speaker 1: because I never played it. I watch it a lot,
- 1:56Speaker 1: And of course I said, I'm talking to coaches as
- 1:58Speaker 1: coaches all the time, I say, hey, what's the hardest
- 1:59Speaker 1: position to coach? Now, it's the corner is because we
- 2:02Speaker 1: know it's an offensive game, right, you can't really put
- 2:04Speaker 1: your hands on a guy talk about you know, how
- 2:07Speaker 1: hard or maybe not it's not to play corner in
- 2:10Speaker 1: Missisippi high school fotball.
- 2:11Speaker 3: It's definitely a challenge, you know, with some of much
- 2:14Speaker 3: rules and regulations around it, you know, not being able,
- 2:17Speaker 3: like you said, not being able to test people as
- 2:18Speaker 3: much and not being able to you know, do certain things.
- 2:20Speaker 3: But it's just about being disciplined in just knowing the game.
- 2:23Speaker 3: You know, once you can't kind of expeake stuff to happen.
- 2:26Speaker 3: It's just everything flows to you this when you make
- 2:28Speaker 3: a plan and get your name out there.
- 2:30Speaker 1: So when you look at it play in a corner,
- 2:32Speaker 1: do you would you rather pick a pass off or
- 2:34Speaker 1: do you rather bake a big hit in the backfield?
- 2:36Speaker 1: Like I mean, what kind?
- 2:37Speaker 3: I mean?
- 2:37Speaker 1: I know it's all fun, but what like is if
- 2:39Speaker 1: you had one last play to make, what's it going
- 2:41Speaker 1: to be?
- 2:42Speaker 3: I probably say, intersition, it's probably more fun in the moment.
- 2:46Speaker 1: And so when you talk about this year and you
- 2:50Speaker 1: look at the schedule with Germantown coming up Terry on Friday,
- 2:53Speaker 1: we know coach wants you to go, you know, game
- 2:55Speaker 1: to game, but what game are you looking forward to
- 2:57Speaker 1: the most?
- 2:58Speaker 3: If you could pick one out of the hole schedule,
- 3:00Speaker 3: the whole schedule. Definitely, definitely, Brandon, I definitely feel like
- 3:03Speaker 3: we had a very good chance to win that game
- 3:05Speaker 3: last year and I need this is our game, your
- 3:07Speaker 3: rings game this year.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Who's your favorite college team?
- 3:10Speaker 3: Uh, Florida Florida Gators.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Interesting, Yeah, we don't get a whole lot of Florida,
- 3:14Speaker 1: but you liked the Florida games. What about NFL forty
- 3:17Speaker 1: nine ers, man forty nine ers and pregame meal? We've
- 3:20Speaker 1: been taking posts today. If you were in charge of
- 3:22Speaker 1: the pregame meal and they said, Patrick, you get to
- 3:26Speaker 1: pick it, what are you picking?
- 3:27Speaker 3: I probably get a Chick fil a Chick fil A.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yeah, we were joking there. Y'all. Had a teammate and
- 3:32Speaker 1: I had somebody text me his name earlier year two
- 3:34Speaker 1: over here we asked this question. He said he didn't
- 3:36Speaker 1: eat pregame males, and I could not believe that.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I couldn't believe either. I.
- 3:41Speaker 1: So, lastly, what are goals and expectations for you guys
- 3:44Speaker 1: this year? In your mind? Our goals?
- 3:47Speaker 3: One of our goals to be one of the hardest
- 3:48Speaker 3: working teams you. No nobody wants to outplay us, No
- 3:50Speaker 3: one to be like, we want to be the hardest
- 3:51Speaker 3: working team when the team gets done and facing h
- 3:53Speaker 3: that's what you want to know. Now, our goals to
- 3:55Speaker 3: make it all the way. You know, we're tired of
- 3:56Speaker 3: you know, sitting at the same spot we've been and
- 3:58Speaker 3: continues to get into the same time. First round here year.
- 4:01Speaker 3: We want to make a run and we want to
- 4:02Speaker 3: make count this year.
- 4:03Speaker 1: He's Patrick harpermn Patrick, thank you, brother, I appreciate you
- 4:05Speaker 1: taking some time, and we're gonna switch it out real
- 4:08Speaker 1: quick and get Rylan Williams in you can Texas six
- 4:11Speaker 1: or one eight eight five three seven seven six. That
- 4:14Speaker 1: is the couple of Maloney's text line Cable Maloney's thirteen
- 4:16Speaker 1: locations around the state online at Cowboy Maloney's dot com.
- 4:21Speaker 1: And now we got to Rylin Williams offensive line and
- 4:24Speaker 1: defensive line. How are you, brother?
- 4:25Speaker 4: I'm doing great.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Coach was teeing you up in the break and he said,
- 4:30Speaker 1: you know, he had to get you to buy in
- 4:32Speaker 1: to pay you know, when you were younger to play
- 4:34Speaker 1: in both offensive line and defensive line. You don't see
- 4:37Speaker 1: guys at the seven eight level do that a whole lot.
- 4:40Speaker 1: What made you buy into it?
- 4:41Speaker 4: Years ago. Well, you know, one thing about it I
- 4:43Speaker 4: will say is my coaches they kept telling me like, man,
- 4:45Speaker 4: you know you're an athlete for alignment. You're a very athletic.
- 4:49Speaker 4: And you know, one thing I will say is that
- 4:51Speaker 4: the recruits they loved it. Like during the spring and stuff,
- 4:55Speaker 4: when I was getting recruited and stuff, the coacher telled him,
- 4:57Speaker 4: you know, he's playing both sides of the ball. He's
- 4:59Speaker 4: a fas fast athletic guy, big guy, you know. So
- 5:02Speaker 4: one thing I said was, you know, I'm gonna do
- 5:04Speaker 4: what I need to do for my team, and you know,
- 5:07Speaker 4: do what's needed.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Take us through that a little bit, because again, you know,
- 5:11Speaker 1: uh seven eight football and you guys play it. I
- 5:13Speaker 1: mean you say it every week. You don't see a
- 5:15Speaker 1: lot of guys do that. So how do you mentally
- 5:18Speaker 1: prepare for that? Because you know this, you're you're let's
- 5:21Speaker 1: say you start out on defense tonight and then you know,
- 5:24Speaker 1: four three, four, five, six snaps, she calls a punt then,
- 5:27Speaker 1: but all of a sudden, you got to turn get
- 5:29Speaker 1: on the other side of the ball. You're getting a
- 5:31Speaker 1: fresh defensive line. You're always playing somebody fresh, yes, sir,
- 5:34Speaker 1: which means you're you have to be an extra extra
- 5:37Speaker 1: good shaw.
- 5:38Speaker 4: Yes, sir, Yes, sir. You know one thing I will
- 5:40Speaker 4: say I could. I made sure my mental game was
- 5:42Speaker 4: up to day, you know, up to park, you know,
- 5:43Speaker 4: because it's like I'm a big guy, I'm gonna get tired.
- 5:46Speaker 4: But one thing I will say is I have a
- 5:48Speaker 4: lot of motivation in me. You know, I'm very high headed.
- 5:51Speaker 4: You know, I keep I keep things going straight with me,
- 5:53Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying. So, yes, sir, I really
- 5:56Speaker 4: think that my coaches they really did the right thing
- 5:58Speaker 4: by putting me on both sides of the ball, because
- 6:00Speaker 4: it shows me as a leader. It shows how hard
- 6:02Speaker 4: I've worked, and you know, I'm ready to see what
- 6:03Speaker 4: we do just for fun. You talk about recruiting.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Some of the coaches you've talked to, do they project
- 6:08Speaker 1: you more on the offensive side or defensive side of
- 6:10Speaker 1: the next year?
- 6:10Speaker 4: Offered me for both? This one thing I will say.
- 6:12Speaker 4: You know, I asked one recruiting you know, I was like, coach,
- 6:15Speaker 4: you know what did y'all offer me for a work
- 6:17Speaker 4: side of the ball? He said both? And I was like, really,
- 6:19Speaker 4: you know, they really they really they really told me
- 6:21Speaker 4: something like they really believe in me. They really like
- 6:23Speaker 4: what I'm doing, you know, so I really feel like,
- 6:26Speaker 4: since they're doing that, I'm gonna get them something to
- 6:27Speaker 4: look at. I'm gonna show them that, yes, I can
- 6:29Speaker 4: do this, cause you know, they're all these coaches are
- 6:32Speaker 4: iff you by all these recruiters are like, he's big.
- 6:35Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying, He's a big guy. And
- 6:37Speaker 4: playing both sides of the ball on first team defense
- 6:40Speaker 4: and first team offense. You know, being big parts of
- 6:42Speaker 4: both sides of the ball. That's a lot. So I
- 6:44Speaker 4: really have to I really made it, made it to
- 6:46Speaker 4: myself to where I will approve a point. I will
- 6:49Speaker 4: show them that I can do it.
- 6:50Speaker 1: So what's it been like for you to play here
- 6:52Speaker 1: at Northwest Ranking? And now as you kind of look
- 6:54Speaker 1: out on that field knowing hate, you know this is
- 6:56Speaker 1: this is it? This is the last season here?
- 6:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:58Speaker 4: You know, one thing I will say is I've kind
- 7:01Speaker 4: of learned since playing since playing as a freshman. You know,
- 7:04Speaker 4: my after my ninth grade season, they moved me up
- 7:07Speaker 4: to varsity and I played two three games with the
- 7:09Speaker 4: starting office line at two hundred and fifteen pounds. You know,
- 7:12Speaker 4: I really watched how guys, how to how the seniors
- 7:15Speaker 4: of each year before my senior year, how they've treated me,
- 7:18Speaker 4: how they how they carried theirselves, you know. And I
- 7:21Speaker 4: really bought into that, and now that I'm doing it,
- 7:23Speaker 4: if it's a crazy feeling, yeah.
- 7:26Speaker 1: It's it's like now you get to give back and
- 7:28Speaker 1: kind of take some young guys under your wing.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Yes, sir, all right.
- 7:31Speaker 1: A couple more questions here with Vin though, with ray
- 7:33Speaker 1: Line Williams offensive line, defensive line. Rare in seven eight
- 7:36Speaker 1: that you see a young man go both sides, but
- 7:38Speaker 1: he is doing that here at Northwest Ranking. When you
- 7:41Speaker 1: look down that schedule, the one team you're circling this year,
- 7:44Speaker 1: Oh it's Germantown. Germantown. I've gotten that. Let's see now,
- 7:47Speaker 1: y'all four players. I've gotten that two or three times today.
- 7:50Speaker 1: So is it because the first game or you got
- 7:52Speaker 1: like you said, like, we don't like those guys.
- 7:54Speaker 4: I don't like those guys. Now they've made it, they've
- 7:56Speaker 4: made it a rivalry. You know, at first, you know
- 7:58Speaker 4: it's Germantown, Okay, we just want to win. But now
- 8:01Speaker 4: I really want to put put put the paws on
- 8:03Speaker 4: the guy, put the piles on them, guys, and.
- 8:04Speaker 1: That's next week, right, yes, yeah, this next week, next week.
- 8:07Speaker 4: But Terry's first. There, you get out of the way.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Terry's first, got to get out of the way. But
- 8:10Speaker 1: if you're if you're responsible for the pregame mail, what
- 8:12Speaker 1: are you doing?
- 8:13Speaker 4: Canes?
- 8:13Speaker 1: Canes? I think I got two canes and what you said?
- 8:17Speaker 1: Check he said Chick fil A, Chick fil A and knes.
- 8:19Speaker 1: And I also got one of your teammates and said
- 8:21Speaker 1: he wanted to do barbecue, macaroni and cheese.
- 8:23Speaker 4: Yeah I heard that.
- 8:24Speaker 1: So all right, favorite college team h L s U
- 8:27Speaker 1: L s U and favorite NFL team Baltimore Ravens. I
- 8:31Speaker 1: like that last question for you, goals and aspirations for
- 8:34Speaker 1: you guys this year? What are you looking to do?
- 8:36Speaker 4: One thing? I will say, of course I want to win,
- 8:38Speaker 4: but you know, I want to see my young guys
- 8:40Speaker 4: grow because of how much I've coached them up, you know,
- 8:42Speaker 4: to help my other coaches motivate them and stuff. I
- 8:46Speaker 4: want to see my young guys growing. I want to
- 8:47Speaker 4: see them all out. But yeah, winning, winning is one
- 8:50Speaker 4: of those. And you know what I'm saying, not going
- 8:53Speaker 4: five to five again, not getting not being first round.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Xes.
- 8:56Speaker 4: You know, I want to go farther than that. And uh,
- 8:58Speaker 4: I do have one more question. What's like to play
- 9:00Speaker 4: here on Friday night? Oh, it's tremendous, tremendy. That's one
- 9:03Speaker 4: thing I will say. I get chills every time I
- 9:05Speaker 4: think about it. The night before the game, you know,
- 9:09Speaker 4: I'm just thinking about it. Oh my guy, he's a
- 9:10Speaker 4: home game. I know I have people coming to watch me,
- 9:13Speaker 4: and you know, people the kids in the school know
- 9:16Speaker 4: about me. It's like man, once once we're running out
- 9:19Speaker 4: the cougarhead, it's up. You know. It's a crazy feeling.
- 9:22Speaker 4: One thing I will say, that's one thing I will
- 9:23Speaker 4: miss about high school football.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Throd doubt about it. He is Rayline Williams. And of course,
- 9:28Speaker 1: so we appreciate Patrick Carper. Guys appreciate you so much.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So special luck this year. Yes, sir, think we are
