The Lyttelton Tunnel will be shut down overnight from July 14th to 16th, closed 11 PM to 5 AM each night, for critical fire safety testing — including deluge system tests. Traffic will be briefly opened hourly to clear backups, but drivers between Christchurch and Lyttelton must reroute via Cashmere, Dyers Pass, Governors Bay, or the longer Sumner/Evans Pass route.
