- 0:00Speaker 1: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Ohoa okay, okay, okay, okay, I'm ready.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome to Split Your Head, a biweekly podcast hosted by
- 0:09Speaker 1: me Bob that covers the gamut of all things horror, exploitation, cult, underground, experimental, transgressive, bizarre,
- 0:17Speaker 1: and indie. I have been fortunate enough to connect with
- 0:19Speaker 1: some of the most groundbreaking and upcoming filmmakers, writers.
- 0:22Speaker 2: And artists.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Don't expect a typical interview.
- 0:25Speaker 3: I love shooting the shoot with my guests and stumbling
- 0:27Speaker 3: on surprising topics that will literally split our heads. From
- 0:30Speaker 3: spider comedies to nihilistic sleeves, a comfortable art house to
- 0:34Speaker 3: genre classics. If that gets my brain buzzing and cracking
- 0:37Speaker 3: wide open like a watermelon full of blood, then I
- 0:39Speaker 3: would like to share it with your emails. Now a
- 0:44Speaker 3: part of the Someone's Favorite Productions Podcast Network.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Hi mom, you are now listening to the Someone's Favorite
- 0:51Speaker 4: Productions Podcast Network.
- 1:16Speaker 5: Opp So, what do you guys think is gonna come first?
- 2:06Speaker 6: You think World War three?
- 2:08Speaker 2: Or or g T A six g T A six.
- 2:15Speaker 6: I'll try to think what the other the other thing
- 2:17Speaker 6: was gonna be? I was gonna pick At this point,
- 2:19Speaker 6: I'm afraid. At this point, I'm afraid we're not gonna
- 2:22Speaker 6: get the Wolverine it's in the fall or the new
- 2:26Speaker 6: Guitar Hero.
- 2:28Speaker 5: Dude, the New Guitar Hero. Did you watch the trailer
- 2:30Speaker 5: for that?
- 2:30Speaker 6: Yeah, it looks, it looks terrible. But if I just want,
- 2:36Speaker 6: I just want. I saw today the picture of the
- 2:39Speaker 6: new guitar, like the the concept designed for it. It
- 2:43Speaker 6: looks exactly the same.
- 2:45Speaker 5: What's it supposed to be, like a Les Paul or something.
- 2:48Speaker 6: I don't know. I don't know guitars like sorry, maybe
- 2:51Speaker 6: it's I think it's.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Gonna be uh, poor Jordan just got shut down.
- 2:55Speaker 5: I don't I don't know. I don't know guitars like that.
- 2:57Speaker 6: But it looks it's the same, you know, standard style.
- 3:01Speaker 6: I don't think they're doing the Guitar Hero World Tour
- 3:03Speaker 6: thing where they added the like that sensitive touch bar
- 3:06Speaker 6: at the bottom. Remember they did it at the bottom
- 3:09Speaker 6: of the sem Oh.
- 3:11Speaker 5: Yeah, where you can like you get solo slide or do.
- 3:15Speaker 6: Yeah, the sliding. Yeah, I don't think they're doing that again.
- 3:17Speaker 6: But this is the same. Because I think I read
- 3:21Speaker 6: that people are like, is this a fucking movie podcast
- 3:24Speaker 6: or podcast? This is the same creators right of the
- 3:27Speaker 6: Guitar Hero franchise, but they don't own the rights to
- 3:29Speaker 6: Guitar Hero anymore, so they had to make their own.
- 3:32Speaker 5: Oh I think it's something like that, like the same
- 3:35Speaker 5: ones that did what was the third one, Legends of
- 3:37Speaker 5: Rock or something like that. Oh yeah. What was really
- 3:40Speaker 5: cool with that, as I saw, is it's gonna be online,
- 3:43Speaker 5: So it's like the songs are easy to easibly downloaded,
- 3:47Speaker 5: and they're gonna have like seasons and stuff. Fuck yeah, dude,
- 3:49Speaker 5: day one.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Listen. It's taking everything in me to not buy the
- 3:54Speaker 2: New Breast of the Evil. That game looks incredible and
- 3:57Speaker 2: I've heard nothing but good things about it. I don't
- 3:59Speaker 2: know if you guys are a fan, but I love
- 4:01Speaker 2: those games so much.
- 4:03Speaker 6: I have a feeling it's gonna be free on like
- 4:07Speaker 6: PlayStation Premium, like or PlayStation Plus within the next like
- 4:11Speaker 6: before summer. So I'm gonna hold out a little bit
- 4:13Speaker 6: because I almost paid the seventy dollars for Spider Man
- 4:17Speaker 6: two and then it popped up for free as.
- 4:19Speaker 5: A PlayStation Plus.
- 4:20Speaker 2: That's an game.
- 4:21Speaker 6: Now afraid to buy anything, honestly, PlayStation Plus.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Chris is forever on hold from buying games.
- 4:28Speaker 5: He loves physical when it comes to movies, but digital
- 4:31Speaker 5: when it comes to video games. Is that what I'm hearing? Dude?
- 4:33Speaker 6: Listen. The only new game that i've I didn't even
- 4:36Speaker 6: buy it. My wife got it for me was Indiana
- 4:38Speaker 6: Jones on PlayStation five, and I own that physically, thank
- 4:43Speaker 6: you very much. Games are already expensive.
- 4:45Speaker 5: Enough, Chris.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Are you trying to tell me that you didn't splurge
- 4:48Speaker 2: and get a Pokemon fire Red or Leaf Green?
- 4:51Speaker 5: Well?
- 4:51Speaker 6: I also listen to music on Spotify, so you know
- 4:54Speaker 6: I'm not completely physical media reliant, you know. Oh sorry,
- 4:59Speaker 6: I feel speaking of this before I get in trouble
- 5:02Speaker 6: with the Internet, because these guys are just making me
- 5:05Speaker 6: feel terrible that my life decisions lately. Pickups, you guys
- 5:11Speaker 6: were like, right before we went live, You're like, oh,
- 5:13Speaker 6: let's talk about what we picked up? And I was like,
- 5:15Speaker 6: I got one thing for the entire month of February,
- 5:20Speaker 6: so I figure I'll talk about that real quick. So
- 5:23Speaker 6: from the movie room dot Com, they were nice enough
- 5:26Speaker 6: to send me a copy over.
- 5:29Speaker 5: Of a set of movies that.
- 5:33Speaker 6: I don't know enough about to discuss in any real detail.
- 5:39Speaker 6: I listened to an incredible podcast called Perverse Permission with
- 5:42Speaker 6: Sam Deagan. I think I've talked about it multiple times
- 5:45Speaker 6: on here. It's co hosted by Oscar Babe, and they
- 5:49Speaker 6: did and I think their first two or three, maybe
- 5:53Speaker 6: even four episodes were on a series of pink u
- 5:57Speaker 6: films called the Angel Trilogy, and I kind of immediately
- 6:03Speaker 6: started diving in and trying to see where I can
- 6:05Speaker 6: find these movies. Some of these were in pretty rough shape.
- 6:07Speaker 6: But for those who don't know, Angel Guts is a
- 6:11Speaker 6: series of six Japanese pink films otherwise known as Pink You.
- 6:15Speaker 6: They were made between nineteen seventy eight and nineteen ninety four,
- 6:18Speaker 6: and they're based on a manga by Takashi Ishi. These
- 6:23Speaker 6: are very traditional in the pink u form, so extreme violence,
- 6:29Speaker 6: heavy sexuality are part of it. But one thing that
- 6:33Speaker 6: I learned from Perverse Permission about them is kind of
- 6:36Speaker 6: some of the deeper context to the movies and kind
- 6:38Speaker 6: of the relevance that they have in Japanese cinema as
- 6:41Speaker 6: a whole and world cinema. And at the time this
- 6:46Speaker 6: had just got announced, so I picked up the Angel
- 6:48Speaker 6: Guts collection from Third Window Films, and.
- 6:52Speaker 5: This is sort of like a digibook style. There is
- 6:58Speaker 5: four disks in here and five films, so you have
- 7:02Speaker 5: Red Classroom, Nami, Red Porno, Red Vertigo, and Red Flash
- 7:08Speaker 5: all available across four discs.
- 7:10Speaker 6: And there's a bunch of really cool new stuff on here.
- 7:12Speaker 6: So Red Classroom has a new commentary by Jasper Sharp,
- 7:15Speaker 6: Nami has a new audio commentary by Jasper Sharp. Red
- 7:18Speaker 6: Porno doesn't have any bonus features, but Red Verdigo has
- 7:22Speaker 6: a new audio commentary by Tom mess and then a
- 7:25Speaker 6: new audio commentary Oh no, I'm sorry, Red Porno does
- 7:27Speaker 6: They're on the same disc has a new audio commentary
- 7:30Speaker 6: by Sam Began, and then there's a new audio commentary
- 7:34Speaker 6: track on Red Flash.
- 7:35Speaker 5: With Jasper Sharp.
- 7:36Speaker 6: And this is sort of kind of up my alley
- 7:40Speaker 6: recently because I've been diving into like the Sato collection
- 7:43Speaker 6: from Viniger Syndrome, getting a little bit more in This
- 7:46Speaker 6: is my first pickup from Third Window Films and very
- 7:51Speaker 6: very very excited to have this and to get into this.
- 7:55Speaker 6: I'm definitely a little nervous because I know I've seen
- 8:00Speaker 6: some pretty extreme contrast between the content of Pink You films,
- 8:04Speaker 6: but diving into something new like this is something that
- 8:07Speaker 6: I love so much, and I was happy. I was
- 8:10Speaker 6: a little nervous that the movie room wasn't gonna get this,
- 8:12Speaker 6: or if this wasn't going to be accessible on most places,
- 8:15Speaker 6: so I was stoked to pick this up. I don't
- 8:18Speaker 6: know if you guys ever seen any of the Japanese
- 8:20Speaker 6: Pink You films before.
- 8:21Speaker 2: No, but I've wanted to get into them.
- 8:23Speaker 5: No, can you? Can you read the description for Red
- 8:28Speaker 5: Porno for me? I would like to know what that
- 8:31Speaker 5: movie is about.
- 8:32Speaker 6: Yeah, of course, man, I imagine that it probably a
- 8:38Speaker 6: porno and it's red, and I'm just kidding.
- 8:40Speaker 5: That's very good.
- 8:41Speaker 6: So it actually says, according to IMDb that, well, I
- 8:46Speaker 6: clicked on an ad Michael Later's Going Nuts Nami. As
- 8:51Speaker 6: a staff member at an exclusive department store, her libido
- 8:54Speaker 6: is chiefly satisfied alone until a coworker talks her into
- 8:57Speaker 6: subbing on a porno. Modeling of her appearance in the
- 9:00Speaker 6: magazine has no end of complications for her.
- 9:03Speaker 5: And it's only sixty seven minutes. Well, two more minutes,
- 9:09Speaker 5: and it's been just the perfect movie.
- 9:12Speaker 6: Yeah, stop, that's inappropriate, man.
- 9:17Speaker 7: No.
- 9:17Speaker 6: I seriously stoked to have these incredible work. Sam Deagan
- 9:21Speaker 6: Jasper Snow for your workingness or I hope or Jester's sharp.
- 9:24Speaker 6: I'm sorry, I said the Snow. I'm very excited to
- 9:27Speaker 6: pick that up. That's literally my only brand new pickup
- 9:30Speaker 6: for the month of February, and I pre ordered that
- 9:32Speaker 6: in December.
- 9:34Speaker 2: You've got a lot on your hands, that's for sure.
- 9:36Speaker 5: I got a lot going on. Man, what about you
- 9:38Speaker 5: guys who wants to talk about?
- 9:39Speaker 2: Will you picked up Jordan? Have had it?
- 9:43Speaker 5: Well, I'm gonna talk about three kind of pretty quickly.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Two from technically there are Vavision releases. One is this
- 9:54Speaker 5: masterpiece right here that I got in and I think
- 9:58Speaker 5: it's called a on Flux or eon flux.
- 10:02Speaker 6: Oh god, I remember.
- 10:03Speaker 5: I'm just kidding this now that this one was kind
- 10:06Speaker 5: of a joke. Yes, it was a new pickup. This
- 10:09Speaker 5: movie sucks so that that's that's the only reason I
- 10:11Speaker 5: brought this up. Visually, it's a beautiful film, like The
- 10:14Speaker 5: Four Killer's great, but the movie's just just awful. The
- 10:18Speaker 5: lady with the hands for feet walking around, that's I
- 10:22Speaker 5: tell you.
- 10:23Speaker 6: That was two thousand and five. Who directed Karen Usama? Interesting, okay,
- 10:31Speaker 6: made a whole bunch of wow. I feel like I
- 10:35Speaker 6: remember renting that back in the day and not loving it.
- 10:41Speaker 5: No, it's not good. It's based off of it's.
- 10:46Speaker 6: A woman who directed Jennifer's Body.
- 10:50Speaker 7: Look, it's based off of a anime or like a
- 10:55Speaker 7: h I guess it's an MTV anime or I don't know,
- 11:00Speaker 7: to be an anime would be a cartoon.
- 11:01Speaker 6: I don't know, I don't know. It looks like though
- 11:04Speaker 6: it was directed by Paul W. S Anderson post resident
- 11:07Speaker 6: Evil though you know, like when you got super stylized. Yeah,
- 11:14Speaker 6: not the good move. And also reference if you're listening
- 11:17Speaker 6: to this, then our episode on Event Horizon dropped only
- 11:21Speaker 6: only like six days from.
- 11:22Speaker 2: This episode, so out for that.
- 11:25Speaker 5: Speaking of Paul W.
- 11:26Speaker 6: S Anderson, I'm sorry, Jordan, I'm.
- 11:27Speaker 5: Excited for that. But that's okay. This next one was
- 11:29Speaker 5: another Vavision release I got. This is John Carpenter's Vampires.
- 11:33Speaker 5: Oh yeah. In my opinion, it's an underrated John Carpenter film.
- 11:39Speaker 5: Not a lot of people really talk about this one.
- 11:41Speaker 5: It's look, it's not his best film, but I I
- 11:44Speaker 5: really enjoy the vampires in this, the way they look,
- 11:48Speaker 5: the way they explode and burst into flames in the
- 11:51Speaker 5: in the Sun you got James Woods, but no I did.
- 11:57Speaker 5: I did really enjoy this film quite a lot. Yeah.
- 12:01Speaker 5: And to the this, uh the lenticular that's on this
- 12:05Speaker 5: Via Vision release, I mean, it's it's so cool.
- 12:09Speaker 6: Somebody posted on a Facebook group chat and they were like, oh,
- 12:13Speaker 6: John Carpenter, has he ever made like a truly gory movie?
- 12:17Speaker 6: And I commented, I was like, have you ever seen
- 12:18Speaker 6: the hotel scene from Vampires?
- 12:21Speaker 5: You know when he.
- 12:21Speaker 6: Splits a guy in half vertically with his nail? Yeah,
- 12:26Speaker 6: I've never seen that one.
- 12:26Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, yeah, all right, Or how about I
- 12:30Speaker 5: don't know, the thing like one of his most popular films.
- 12:33Speaker 6: Yeah, I think I think he was trying to go
- 12:37Speaker 6: like outside of body horror, you know what I mean, likee.
- 12:45Speaker 5: But yeah, that that scene. Yeah. Oh anyways, one more.
- 12:51Speaker 5: This one was a film that everyone I had talked
- 12:54Speaker 5: to had been trying to convince me to watch. I
- 12:56Speaker 5: had never seen it. This is actually a Nova Media release,
- 13:00Speaker 5: and the professional leon the professional I had never seen
- 13:06Speaker 5: this movie. And yeah, everybody was telling me, Jordan, you
- 13:10Speaker 5: need to watch it. Check it out. It's like a
- 13:13Speaker 5: master Bich You're gonna love it. Yeah, they were right.
- 13:17Speaker 5: I loved this movie. The uh, the dynamic between him
- 13:25Speaker 5: and a very young Natalie Portman, which, by the way,
- 13:29Speaker 5: for her being as young as she was, she had
- 13:31Speaker 5: no business acting as good as she did in that movie.
- 13:33Speaker 6: I was gonna ask you if you knew how old
- 13:35Speaker 6: offhand she was in that movie, and she.
- 13:37Speaker 5: Like fourteen, yeah, thirteen, fourteen, twelve somewhere in there. Yeah,
- 13:43Speaker 5: But her performance in that movie was just wow. I
- 13:48Speaker 5: was shocked.
- 13:49Speaker 6: That movie to me as a kid, was like what
- 13:52Speaker 6: I imagine to like a twelve year old movie fan now
- 13:56Speaker 6: would be like John Wick.
- 13:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 13:59Speaker 6: Yeah, it almost felt like larger than life. By the
- 14:02Speaker 6: time I finally saw it, like everybody had talked about it.
- 14:05Speaker 6: I had seen so many just at the time, you know,
- 14:09Speaker 6: the earlier days of the internet. I've seen so many
- 14:11Speaker 6: people talk about Lee on the professional. When I finally
- 14:13Speaker 6: saw it at like thirteen, it just blew me away.
- 14:17Speaker 5: Dude, it's so good. Yeah, yeah, no, I really enjoyed it.
- 14:23Speaker 5: Gary Oldman, you know, yeah, it's great, great, baby. What
- 14:28Speaker 5: do you guys, what is your favorite not main star
- 14:34Speaker 5: Gary Oldman performance?
- 14:38Speaker 2: Uh, true Romance is the first one that comes to mind.
- 14:41Speaker 6: That's what I was gonna say, okay, yeah, his character
- 14:44Speaker 6: in True Romance dying a quarter of the way through
- 14:47Speaker 6: the movie.
- 14:48Speaker 2: That movie I just watched recently. Oh my god, I
- 14:52Speaker 2: swear that's one that gets better with ever viewing.
- 14:56Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah, True Romance is incredible.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Man.
- 14:58Speaker 6: I watched that not too long ago and just fell
- 15:02Speaker 6: in love with it again, like fell I love, I
- 15:07Speaker 6: love the the whole deal at the theme park.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yep, I just fell in love.
- 15:13Speaker 6: With that movie again.
- 15:14Speaker 5: Man.
- 15:14Speaker 6: Have you ever seen your Romance Jordan?
- 15:19Speaker 5: I don't. I don't think so. I don't know. It's
- 15:21Speaker 5: I feel like I have, but I gotta check.
- 15:25Speaker 2: You gotta get that Aerol four K that that's incredible.
- 15:28Speaker 5: Great Hans, Oh my gosh, yes, why am I? Yes,
- 15:32Speaker 5: that's the movie that Quentin Tarantino wrote. Yes, no, yes,
- 15:39Speaker 5: shootout scene at the end of the movie stack cast. Yes. Yes,
- 15:44Speaker 5: I don't know. I'm sorry, I don't know why. Yes,
- 15:47Speaker 5: I have that movie. I love that movie.
- 15:49Speaker 6: I was confused a little bit when you said you hadn't.
- 15:51Speaker 5: Yeah. Great, great score. I was gonna just about to
- 15:55Speaker 5: say the score on that is so good.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Was that a movie that you guys discovered early on?
- 16:01Speaker 2: Like getting into I guess Quentin Tarantino to a certain extent,
- 16:06Speaker 2: or Tony or maybe Tony Scott was your entry point.
- 16:11Speaker 5: Mine was more Tarantino.
- 16:14Speaker 2: That's how I found out about it was.
- 16:16Speaker 5: From Tarantino, because it feels there are sections of that
- 16:19Speaker 5: movie that's like, this is a Tarantino film.
- 16:22Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I feel like I saw it when I
- 16:26Speaker 6: was younger. I just didn't. I wasn't of maturity yt
- 16:31Speaker 6: to love it like I do now, you know. To me,
- 16:36Speaker 6: it was very much like in the realm, you know
- 16:39Speaker 6: what movie I always compare it to in some weird way,
- 16:42Speaker 6: and it's because it's a film structure. I really like.
- 16:45Speaker 6: Same with like Smoking Aces, the Joe Carnahan film, where
- 16:49Speaker 6: you have three quarters of the movie is build up
- 16:52Speaker 6: to the one big action scene. That's like the True
- 16:56Speaker 6: Romance style to me, you know what I mean, where
- 16:58Speaker 6: True Romance is not an action packed movie until the end.
- 17:01Speaker 6: And I remember when I was younger seeing the I
- 17:04Speaker 6: call it the interrogation scene, you know, between Christopher Walker
- 17:11Speaker 6: walking and Dennis Hopper. Yeah, I remember seeing that scene.
- 17:16Speaker 6: I remember being fascinated with Patricia Arquette, but not not
- 17:21Speaker 6: being mature enough to understand kind of the real themes
- 17:25Speaker 6: of the movie that I understand it now.
- 17:28Speaker 5: So I don't know. I feel like it was probably
- 17:32Speaker 5: more Tarantino because pulp fiction was just such a.
- 17:35Speaker 6: Pop culture icon, you know, you just kind of had
- 17:39Speaker 6: to see it.
- 17:40Speaker 2: That Reservoir Dogs. I remember, those were definitely movies very
- 17:44Speaker 2: early on that were like gateway movies for me to
- 17:48Speaker 2: get more into cinema and take it a little bit
- 17:50Speaker 2: more seriously and really want to see what else is
- 17:53Speaker 2: out there. I after seeing both those movies, I feel
- 17:57Speaker 2: like pulp Fiction.
- 17:58Speaker 6: Was much more accessible than Reservoir So I saw Reservoir
- 18:01Speaker 6: Dogs before Pulp Fiction, but I didn't appreciate Reservoir Dogs
- 18:04Speaker 6: until years later, until I was older and I saw it.
- 18:09Speaker 6: It's like, it's like that thing where in my mind
- 18:12Speaker 6: I remember seeing the year get cut off and it
- 18:15Speaker 6: never you don't see it. It's like one of those things. Yeah,
- 18:19Speaker 6: So just wasn't really you know. Now, when I watched
- 18:22Speaker 6: True Romance, I love it. I'm obsessed with Christians Later
- 18:25Speaker 6: and Patricia Arkat's relationship in that movie and how well moved.
- 18:28Speaker 5: I think Patricia Arqat is.
- 18:31Speaker 6: So fucking adorable in that movie. Man, she just steals
- 18:35Speaker 6: every single scene.
- 18:36Speaker 2: She's Uh, she's definitely an actress. That's very captivating because
- 18:40Speaker 2: you look at the range that she has from something
- 18:43Speaker 2: like that all the way to Lost Highway, where I
- 18:46Speaker 2: mean it's almost a complete opposite style of character that
- 18:50Speaker 2: she's playing in that. But yeah, she's she's definitely incredible.
- 18:53Speaker 2: And Christian Slayer's fucking awesome.
- 18:56Speaker 5: Dude, Christian Slater is so good, man, it's so good.
- 19:00Speaker 6: Brad Pitt I love Brad Plittz character or Brad pitt
- 19:03Speaker 6: He's just a fucking burnout. That's the roommate.
- 19:05Speaker 2: Young James Scandalfini.
- 19:08Speaker 6: Incredible, Michael Rappaport as Dick Richie and that.
- 19:12Speaker 5: All those all those actors were in that movie.
- 19:15Speaker 6: Yeah, ud dude, Tom Sizemore mm hm yeah. Chris penn
- 19:20Speaker 6: is also in it as well. Chris penn Man, Samuel
- 19:23Speaker 6: Jackson pops up at like. There's so many characters Andrew Romance,
- 19:27Speaker 6: so many great character actors. Val Kilmer has it, plays
- 19:31Speaker 6: Elvis Presley in the scenes with Christian Slater.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Victor Arco is another one.
- 19:36Speaker 6: Yeah, it's really that's a that's a stacked one, man,
- 19:39Speaker 6: that's a really stacked one.
- 19:42Speaker 5: Steve, what do you got for pickups for us? Man?
- 19:45Speaker 2: All right, I'm gonna give you guys, slow down. Let's
- 19:49Speaker 2: start off with the classic boogie Knights at the four
- 19:54Speaker 2: K Steel book Chris look away.
- 19:57Speaker 6: Tell me, how does how does the final shot of
- 19:59Speaker 6: that movie looking.
- 20:00Speaker 2: For K that's something.
- 20:05Speaker 6: I remember in four K?
- 20:06Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Oh my god, it's a fun movie. I didn't really
- 20:13Speaker 2: have a chance to appreciate this movie until a little
- 20:16Speaker 2: bit later on. It wasn't one that it really gravitated
- 20:19Speaker 2: towards until after like repeat viewings. But getting this in
- 20:25Speaker 2: four K, I kind of waited some time to be
- 20:27Speaker 2: able to pick up the steal book for this. I
- 20:29Speaker 2: picked this up over at Gloria Video and then let's
- 20:33Speaker 2: see what else I got. So that one.
- 20:36Speaker 5: That one's awesome, Probably one of my favorite, like early
- 20:39Speaker 5: John c Riley performances in movie nights.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and the cast, the cast is incredible. Just
- 20:46Speaker 2: it feels like the I know the movie is a
- 20:48Speaker 2: little bit longer, it feels like it just breezes by engaging.
- 20:56Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, that movie's one hundred and fifty five minutes long.
- 21:00Speaker 6: Holy hell, it doesn't.
- 21:01Speaker 5: Feel like that.
- 21:02Speaker 2: No, not at all.
- 21:03Speaker 6: Like, when you're watching it, I'm just checking out this
- 21:05Speaker 6: cast again. It's it's been a couple of years, but yeah,
- 21:08Speaker 6: Heather Graham as the roller Girl. Yes, she's incredible, John Cheatle,
- 21:12Speaker 6: Louis Guzman, Burt Reynolds, Julianne Moore. Yeah, staff cast so good.
- 21:21Speaker 2: This is complete opposite of that. This is another one
- 21:23Speaker 2: that I got in that same order. Jean Claude van
- 21:28Speaker 2: Dam's Double Impact. I am so excited to watch this.
- 21:32Speaker 2: I've been waiting on this for a minute. So happy
- 21:35Speaker 2: to have this in the collection. I think at this
- 21:37Speaker 2: point I'm finally rounding out. I think his peak era
- 21:42Speaker 2: of films in my collection now. So very happy to
- 21:45Speaker 2: have that one.
- 21:47Speaker 6: I just have to say I love that. Brian, our
- 21:50Speaker 6: friend Brian, last movie standing. The first thing he sends
- 21:54Speaker 6: us is that I think is it the opening shot?
- 21:58Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure?
- 21:58Speaker 5: Yeah, Yeah, He's like, yes, we looks great in four K.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Listen. It's got everything you can ask for. I'm gonna
- 22:08Speaker 2: let you know, however's listening find out for themselves with
- 22:11Speaker 2: what we're referring to.
- 22:12Speaker 5: But.
- 22:13Speaker 2: That one is definitely peak. Sean Claude van Dam and
- 22:18Speaker 2: I got in spent a long time coming. I don't
- 22:22Speaker 2: know why I didn't have this in the collection. I
- 22:24Speaker 2: got Fatal Attraction on four K. Michael Douglas Glenn Close,
- 22:29Speaker 2: as you guys know, a big fan of erotic thrillers,
- 22:31Speaker 2: and this one is what I consider probably st here
- 22:36Speaker 2: when it comes to just how good of a movie
- 22:39Speaker 2: this is, and and this is one that I've been
- 22:45Speaker 2: waiting on. I caved. I blame Jordan for this sport
- 22:48Speaker 2: before you.
- 22:49Speaker 6: Get what is the better Adrian Line directed erotic thriller?
- 22:53Speaker 6: The Last or not Last Deduction? Oh my god, In
- 22:56Speaker 6: Decent Proposal or Fatal Attraction, I.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Would have to go Fatal Attraction just because of I
- 23:07Speaker 2: think the memories that I have attached to when I
- 23:09Speaker 2: saw Fatal Attraction probably way too young, and I would yeah,
- 23:13Speaker 2: but more from a nostalgia standpoint, they're both incredible films.
- 23:18Speaker 2: I actually have Indecent Proposal on the way, so I'm
- 23:21Speaker 2: excited to get that one coming up here soon.
- 23:24Speaker 6: So I'm curious because I love I mean, I think
- 23:26Speaker 6: in Decent Proposal has a heavyweight of Demi.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Moore, you know, is Oh yeah, yeah.
- 23:32Speaker 6: I think it's also Woody Harrelson, right, I think in
- 23:36Speaker 6: that who plays her husband. Yes, it's Woody Harrelson, right,
- 23:40Speaker 6: Yes it is. I'm pretty sure, Adrian Lyne and decent proposal.
- 23:45Speaker 6: I think it's double check. The Internet's like, yeah it is, yeah,
- 23:48Speaker 6: Woody Harrelds. And then of course Robert Redford is the
- 23:52Speaker 6: rich man who pays to sleep. It is with Demi
- 23:54Speaker 6: Moore for a night.
- 23:55Speaker 2: What an incredible director that I just don't think gets
- 23:59Speaker 2: his furs.
- 24:01Speaker 6: Yeah, so no, real quick, before we jacobs Ladder r dude,
- 24:06Speaker 6: Jacob's Ladder. Unfaithful another incredible Uh well, actually, okay, hold on,
- 24:12Speaker 6: I asked, I asked you which was the best erotic thriller?
- 24:16Speaker 6: And then you could also put in Unfaithful and Lolita
- 24:19Speaker 6: and nine and a half.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Weeks nine and a half weeks is another good one.
- 24:23Speaker 6: Yeah, and then he where's the four K for that
- 24:25Speaker 6: for nine and a half weeks?
- 24:26Speaker 5: It's coming out nine and a half weeks.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Man, you son of a don't tease me. Okay, So,
- 24:36Speaker 2: after much build up, blame Jordan for this one. I
- 24:41Speaker 2: was morally conflicted on whether or not I should pick
- 24:44Speaker 2: this up, but I caved and I got Jade from Imprint.
- 24:51Speaker 2: I mean, listen, I don't think the Vinegar Syndrome release
- 24:54Speaker 2: did this film justice with the chosen cover art. And
- 25:00Speaker 2: that's totally fine because I have this now and everything
- 25:03Speaker 2: is right in the world. So I am so happy
- 25:05Speaker 2: to have this. I will excuse me another excuse to
- 25:08Speaker 2: rewatch this movie again.
- 25:10Speaker 5: So yeah, I'm sorry, Jordan, go ahead. Now, I was gonna
- 25:13Speaker 5: say that they threw in a new documentary. I don't know, Yes,
- 25:16Speaker 5: I don't know if it's is it brand new? I
- 25:18Speaker 5: know it's another documentary in there that's not on the
- 25:22Speaker 5: Vinegar Syndrome release, So I mean there's quite a bit
- 25:25Speaker 5: of extra stuff on there that you're not getting.
- 25:28Speaker 6: Well, in case you guys were wondering, there are a
- 25:31Speaker 6: couple of new bonus features on that that are actually
- 25:33Speaker 6: produced by our podcast network, that were produced by someone's
- 25:40Speaker 6: favorite Productions and Will Dotson and Ryan Beryl that disconnected.
- 25:44Speaker 6: Hell yeah, just but I forgot that vision site is
- 25:47Speaker 6: currently down for some maintenance. So I'm just going on
- 25:51Speaker 6: here to see if I can figure out which ones
- 25:54Speaker 6: it was.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Maybe they're doing a release for nine and a half
- 25:58Speaker 2: weeks because you spoke into exist Suits.
- 26:01Speaker 6: Yeah right, I believe I would have to double check
- 26:06Speaker 6: with Ryan, but I believe they produce the subversive heart
- 26:10Speaker 6: of William Freakin's JA the video Essay by Michelle Kisner.
- 26:14Speaker 6: Oh yes, and then they're the new audio commentary with
- 26:17Speaker 6: Nina K. Martin and Will Dotson of Someone's Favorite Productions
- 26:20Speaker 6: as well. I believe those are the two that are
- 26:22Speaker 6: produced by our podcast network.
- 26:25Speaker 2: You can't wait to check them out.
- 26:26Speaker 6: But I'll double check and edit in the description if
- 26:28Speaker 6: I need to. So very personal connection to that one.
- 26:32Speaker 5: Well, you know, I convince you know, Stephen, you get that.
- 26:36Speaker 5: But he in turn convinced me to pick up the
- 26:39Speaker 5: last seduction, So I splurged on that a little bit.
- 26:44Speaker 5: Good work.
- 26:45Speaker 2: That's okay, that's worth it.
- 26:46Speaker 5: Yeah, proud of you guys.
- 26:48Speaker 6: You guys definitely picked up more than me this month.
- 26:50Speaker 6: But I'm okay. I'll just sit here with my red one.
- 26:53Speaker 5: Hey. You know what, you have more self control than
- 26:56Speaker 5: we do, so good for you. What about you guys?
- 27:01Speaker 5: Want to get into what we've been watching?
- 27:05Speaker 2: Yeah, Jordan, you're the Gustav Honor.
- 27:08Speaker 6: Somebody wants to start.
- 27:09Speaker 5: Please take it away, please carry out man. Jesus my goodness,
- 27:15Speaker 5: So we have this one right here. Uh it is
- 27:19Speaker 5: it's a new Hammer release. It's not really a Hammer film.
- 27:23Speaker 5: They started this new line called Hammer Presents where they're
- 27:26Speaker 5: taking British horror films and basically distributed them, giving them
- 27:32Speaker 5: a little bit of a Hammer treatment on there. And
- 27:34Speaker 5: the first one is Cry the Banshee I get. I
- 27:37Speaker 5: don't know if you guys have seen this. The stars
- 27:39Speaker 5: Vincent Price, he plays this, this ruthless magistrate that is
- 27:45Speaker 5: out to rid the world of witchcraft by any means necessary.
- 27:51Speaker 5: It's he has a terrible just the family. It's all bad.
- 27:56Speaker 5: And essentially one day is while they're out witch they
- 28:00Speaker 5: come across this coven and actually end up killing quite
- 28:06Speaker 5: a few of them. And so the leader of this
- 28:09Speaker 5: coven named Una calls upon the power of Satan to
- 28:14Speaker 5: send a banshee out to kill the family. I forget,
- 28:19Speaker 5: I forget what his family's name. It isn't well anyways,
- 28:22Speaker 5: Vincent Price's family. So the banshee she sends basically a
- 28:25Speaker 5: death curse after them. I loved this movie. What's really
- 28:32Speaker 5: cool about this is you're actually getting two different cuts.
- 28:34Speaker 5: You're getting the theatrical cut, the US version, which really a
- 28:40Speaker 5: neutered the film. They went for a PG rating for
- 28:44Speaker 5: the US. The whole opening sequence of this movie is
- 28:48Speaker 5: completely different, but the director's cut, I mean, they really
- 28:52Speaker 5: don't hold anything back. There's like, there's tons of exploitation
- 28:57Speaker 5: in this movie. It's pretty wild. Actually, it opens up
- 29:01Speaker 5: with a witch trial that Vincent Price is overseeing. But
- 29:07Speaker 5: what's great with this is I mean you're getting audio
- 29:09Speaker 5: commentary by Chris Alexander.
- 29:12Speaker 6: Yeah, Chris Alexander, owner of a delirium magazine. Now the
- 29:18Speaker 6: Delirium film's sublievable vinegar syndrome.
- 29:21Speaker 5: Yeah, dude, Chris Alexander, you want to talk about wealth
- 29:24Speaker 5: and knowledge? The dude knows his who knows his stuff?
- 29:26Speaker 5: He especially when it comes to like uh, I mean,
- 29:30Speaker 5: he's been on so many Hammer releases now they keep
- 29:33Speaker 5: bringing him back. But you're gonna interview with Kim Newman
- 29:36Speaker 5: on here, and then there's an interview with the it's
- 29:40Speaker 5: an archival interview with the director Gordon Hessler. Yeah. I
- 29:46Speaker 5: highly recommend this one. It's it's very folk horror, like
- 29:51Speaker 5: a folk tale. And what's interesting is the Banshee I
- 29:54Speaker 5: was reading is more of an Irish scott More Irish
- 29:59Speaker 5: folk our folk tale, and they kind of take that
- 30:02Speaker 5: name and twisted. Make it a British full horror film. Okay,
- 30:07Speaker 5: but but I really enjoy it. The Banshee's more like
- 30:10Speaker 5: a like a werewolf type guy. It's a good movie. Steve.
- 30:15Speaker 6: This is the director of Murders in the Room Work.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:20Speaker 6: I don't know if you've ever seen that from seventy one.
- 30:25Speaker 2: It's been a long time since I've seen that.
- 30:26Speaker 6: Screen Factory put it out. I think a couple of
- 30:31Speaker 6: years ago they did a release of it. He also directed, uh,
- 30:37Speaker 6: he directed an episode of Cool Shakta Nightstalker. He directed
- 30:41Speaker 6: some episodes I believe one episode and Yeah, Alfred Hitchcock
- 30:45Speaker 6: presents This guy's done a lot of cool work.
- 30:49Speaker 5: Man.
- 30:49Speaker 6: That's actually, like, you know, a lot of the hammer
- 30:51Speaker 6: stuff I've been not into enough to like buy because
- 30:56Speaker 6: I mean I feel like once I buy one, I'm
- 30:59Speaker 6: gonna have to buy all and some of them are
- 31:00Speaker 6: pretty expensive. And but that one, especially after your description
- 31:05Speaker 6: kind of reading into this as you were talking about it,
- 31:08Speaker 6: I think that's when I want to go back and
- 31:09Speaker 6: pick up.
- 31:10Speaker 5: Yeah, you know what's good. What's what's nice about this is,
- 31:13Speaker 5: like I said, this is I mean, this is kind
- 31:15Speaker 5: of their standard line is kind of what they're going with.
- 31:19Speaker 5: Like you said, this isn't a Hammer film, but they're
- 31:22Speaker 5: just they're trying to bring these British horror films, you know,
- 31:27Speaker 5: into bring him out today, give him a four K treatment,
- 31:31Speaker 5: you know that kind of stuff. So this isn't really
- 31:35Speaker 5: a Hammer film per se. So but what's nice is
- 31:38Speaker 5: this Hammer resents it's not that expensive and this line
- 31:42Speaker 5: would be a lot easier to keep up with than there.
- 31:46Speaker 5: You know, they're bigger releases like they did with uh,
- 31:49Speaker 5: with the Curs Frankenstein and the Quator Masses and and
- 31:54Speaker 5: Captain Captain Cronos and stuff like that. Are you thinking
- 31:57Speaker 5: of the documentary? I'm sorry, see, oh no, it's sorry,
- 32:01Speaker 5: I am Yeah. Yeah that did you guys see the
- 32:03Speaker 5: slip cover on that thing.
- 32:04Speaker 6: Yeah, it's like the stage curtain.
- 32:06Speaker 5: Mm hmm. It's going to be interesting because from what
- 32:09Speaker 5: I'm hearing, I was reading Ryan's post about it, and
- 32:13Speaker 5: that supposedly there's a lot of AI work in it.
- 32:18Speaker 6: That's so wonderful.
- 32:19Speaker 5: I'm still I'm going to pick it up. I'm curious
- 32:22Speaker 5: to see it though, but you know, it looks that aside,
- 32:27Speaker 5: it still looks really really good.
- 32:29Speaker 2: I feel like Hammer Films is doing just a phenomenal
- 32:32Speaker 2: job giving these films the boutique treatment that they deserve,
- 32:40Speaker 2: but also I feel like it's allowing a new audience
- 32:42Speaker 2: to really discover them in the process and making it
- 32:45Speaker 2: more of like a collectible experience with how they've rolled
- 32:48Speaker 2: them out. I know you're obviously a huge fan of them,
- 32:52Speaker 2: and I feel like, I mean, you have all of them,
- 32:54Speaker 2: don't you, the ones that they've released so far.
- 32:56Speaker 5: So far. Yeah, what I think is just so great
- 32:59Speaker 5: about it is there. It's obviously it's the Hammer company
- 33:04Speaker 5: who made these movies, so they own everything about these movies.
- 33:07Speaker 5: They have like a wealth of knowledge with be able
- 33:11Speaker 5: to put everything they possibly can within these releases, which
- 33:15Speaker 5: that's what I like a lot about it is it's
- 33:18Speaker 5: not like another company, you know, say a Second Side
- 33:24Speaker 5: or seven putting out a Hammer film. You know they're
- 33:27Speaker 5: not going to be able to put pack as much
- 33:30Speaker 5: stuff as say if the Hammer themselves did it, and
- 33:33Speaker 5: you'd think a lot of the studios they don't do
- 33:36Speaker 5: this kind of treatment. Man, Hammer's really hammering in with
- 33:40Speaker 5: with these releases. Aha, that's what I love about it.
- 33:44Speaker 5: And they're like they are like college level courses on
- 33:49Speaker 5: some of these releases, the more deluxe collectible ones, I
- 33:53Speaker 5: should say, well, I feel like they give you everything.
- 33:55Speaker 5: They lay it out all that on the table. They're like, hey,
- 33:57Speaker 5: look this is what we have for lobby card.
- 34:01Speaker 6: You know, uh like re you know, rescans and editorial pieces, newspaper,
- 34:08Speaker 6: newspaper articles. They kind of give you it all in
- 34:10Speaker 6: various ways, whether it's embedded into the packaging or it's
- 34:12Speaker 6: in your booklet. You know, they give you everything. And
- 34:16Speaker 6: you know, especially like watching guys like Keith Holland from
- 34:19Speaker 6: Cereal at Midnight, who's now done multiple commentaries for them
- 34:23Speaker 6: and and and some work for them. He's really dove
- 34:25Speaker 6: into Like there's no they're sparing no expense with these.
- 34:28Speaker 6: They're giving you an exhausting amount of stuff that they
- 34:32Speaker 6: have on this movie and putting it all into the
- 34:36Speaker 6: packaging and the presentation and the bonus features, where it's
- 34:38Speaker 6: actually kind of exhausting, Like I feel like it would
- 34:40Speaker 6: take you some time to get through everything, especially multiple
- 34:45Speaker 6: cuts of the movie and audio commentaries and yeah, a lot,
- 34:49Speaker 6: it's a lot of work.
- 34:50Speaker 5: M so, but I actually want to is it still available,
- 34:55Speaker 5: like on any any site?
- 34:56Speaker 6: That we buy from.
- 34:58Speaker 5: Yeah, so I believe. So the movie room that's where
- 35:01Speaker 5: I got mine. Right, let me see what's on it
- 35:09Speaker 5: is still available? Yeah? Sweet?
- 35:13Speaker 6: How much is it? I should already have these pages
- 35:16Speaker 6: up when we start recording.
- 35:18Speaker 5: It's it's twenty nine nine and it's this is part
- 35:21Speaker 5: of which also is I just was seeing the picture
- 35:25Speaker 5: of it. It's what's interesting about this too, is it's
- 35:28Speaker 5: part of their series of films that I forget the
- 35:33Speaker 5: company who actually did the movie, but they it was
- 35:38Speaker 5: AIP American International Productions or Pictuture or something. They they
- 35:44Speaker 5: pushed Edgar Allan Poe as a selling point and it
- 35:50Speaker 5: was a series of films they did Edgar Allan Poe
- 35:52Speaker 5: and Vincent Price, and they kind of put those two together.
- 35:55Speaker 5: The film has nothing to do with Edgar Allan Poe whatsoever,
- 35:58Speaker 5: but that it's marketed that I mean, even the film
- 36:01Speaker 5: opens up with a poem, an excerpt from it. Nothing
- 36:05Speaker 5: to do with it. It's it's it's purely a marketing technique,
- 36:09Speaker 5: but it's very it's very cool. It's just a piece
- 36:12Speaker 5: of history that I love.
- 36:14Speaker 6: That's so funny that they did that.
- 36:18Speaker 5: Yeah, it looks like there's four copies left.
- 36:20Speaker 6: Over at the movie Room twenty nine ninety nine, So
- 36:24Speaker 6: head on over there and grab that still available. As
- 36:26Speaker 6: artwork is pretty incredible. I know people can't see it,
- 36:28Speaker 6: but that artwork is pretty insane.
- 36:32Speaker 5: Good work, Man, good good pick. Talk about the very
- 36:35Speaker 5: nice pick, very good Steve.
- 36:37Speaker 6: What do you got for us?
- 36:39Speaker 5: Man?
- 36:40Speaker 2: All right, I'm gonna pivot and I've got a recent
- 36:46Speaker 2: release from Vinegar Syndrome's Canadian International Pictures. Is this considered
- 36:51Speaker 2: a sub label underneath them?
- 36:54Speaker 5: I think so?
- 36:55Speaker 2: Okay. I just know that this is how it was marketed,
- 36:58Speaker 2: and that is none other then Ghostkeeper. This one moved
- 37:09Speaker 2: very quickly and I'm so happy that I was able
- 37:13Speaker 2: to get my hands on this. I'm sure, as you
- 37:17Speaker 2: guys know, especially with New Year's Eve esque horror, we're
- 37:22Speaker 2: pretty limited on movies that we get. So we've got
- 37:25Speaker 2: New Year Evil and Terror Trained you know, those are
- 37:27Speaker 2: a little bit more known. But I feel like you
- 37:30Speaker 2: can confidently add Ghostkeeper to your watch lists come New
- 37:34Speaker 2: Year's Eve. This movie was just this was actually a
- 37:38Speaker 2: first time watch for me and it definitely delivered. This
- 37:44Speaker 2: is a very atmospheric, feels like a more low budget
- 37:52Speaker 2: eighties horror film, but it's so rich in the atmosphere,
- 37:56Speaker 2: has an incredible atmospheric score from Paul's Aza, who did
- 38:01Speaker 2: the score for My Bloody Valentine as well. Yeah, yeah,
- 38:05Speaker 2: So obviously on this release there's a newly scanned four
- 38:10Speaker 2: K transfer that we get with this new audio commentary
- 38:13Speaker 2: featuring some of the stars, their co writer, co writer
- 38:17Speaker 2: and associate producer Doug McCloud. You get one other featuring
- 38:25Speaker 2: new audio commentary featuring Hysteria Continues and author film historian
- 38:30Speaker 2: Amanda Rayes. See there are a few new interviews on
- 38:36Speaker 2: here which you could check out. I mean, this release
- 38:39Speaker 2: is pretty stack. Pluster's some archival special features on here
- 38:43Speaker 2: as well. I just genuinely really enjoyed this movie. It
- 38:47Speaker 2: was a very unexpected surprise and it's one of those
- 38:51Speaker 2: times that I'm glad that I was able to move
- 38:55Speaker 2: quickly and take advantage of getting this movie. But have
- 38:59Speaker 2: either of you guys seen it or had a chance
- 39:00Speaker 2: to check it out?
- 39:03Speaker 5: No? Yeah, I picked it up.
- 39:06Speaker 2: What did you think?
- 39:08Speaker 5: I loved it? I loved it. I loved the you know,
- 39:12Speaker 5: very isolated trapped in snowed in part of that. What
- 39:18Speaker 5: did you think about so you have the couple and
- 39:21Speaker 5: that the girl. The relationship between the dude and that
- 39:25Speaker 5: other girl. I mean it was they definitely hinted at
- 39:29Speaker 5: he was or at least she was one of the two. Uh,
- 39:34Speaker 5: wasn't being very faithful.
- 39:36Speaker 2: No. No, You're basically getting a group of friends that
- 39:40Speaker 2: basically they run into heavy snowfall, and then they actually
- 39:45Speaker 2: stumble upon an abandoned hotel and they meet this really
- 39:51Speaker 2: really creepy woman and everything escalates from there. I think,
- 39:58Speaker 2: dependent on when you're watching, this just feels like a
- 40:01Speaker 2: very winter horror film to check out. But yeah, as
- 40:07Speaker 2: as Jordan said this, this was a very welcome surprise
- 40:10Speaker 2: out of the movies that we're gonna be discussing.
- 40:12Speaker 5: I enjoyed it a lot. I really didn't.
- 40:15Speaker 6: Doesn't look like there's a lot of info out about
- 40:18Speaker 6: this movie because I've never seen this, but I stumbled
- 40:20Speaker 6: across the IMDb trivia and learned a couple interesting things.
- 40:25Speaker 6: One is that the film's money started to run out
- 40:28Speaker 6: during production, so rather than cancel, Jim mcachuck, the director,
- 40:33Speaker 6: decided to make things up as we as he went along,
- 40:36Speaker 6: and he said that that explains the film's uneven incoherence
- 40:39Speaker 6: section sections of the movie. Did you guys notice anything
- 40:43Speaker 6: that might make you think that they ran out of
- 40:45Speaker 6: money halfway through?
- 40:46Speaker 2: I could see that.
- 40:48Speaker 5: Did you guys?
- 40:48Speaker 6: Also, did you guys also notice any of the reused
- 40:52Speaker 6: score pieces from prom Night that Paul's as I used
- 40:55Speaker 6: in this.
- 40:57Speaker 5: No, I'm gonna have to go back and look and
- 40:58Speaker 5: listen to it.
- 41:00Speaker 6: Yeah, it's interesting. Yeah, there's not a lot of info
- 41:03Speaker 6: out about this movie, man, I mean never heard of this.
- 41:06Speaker 6: It's sold out over at themovie room dot com. It
- 41:10Speaker 6: is a New World Pictures film. It looks like at
- 41:13Speaker 6: least for US distribution. So I look to see if.
- 41:18Speaker 5: One of our partners shows the New World Pictures podcast
- 41:20Speaker 5: that cover this, and they haven't yet. So interesting, man,
- 41:23Speaker 5: I want to check this out. Yeah, it's you know,
- 41:26Speaker 5: you saying they lost money kind of basically, you know,
- 41:30Speaker 5: ran out of money midway the movie. It's solow budget,
- 41:34Speaker 5: so you could tell that, Like, Okay, that makes a
- 41:36Speaker 5: whole lot of sense for sure. Yeah, But like like
- 41:41Speaker 5: Steve said it, that's just part of its charm. It's
- 41:43Speaker 5: what makes the movie what it is.
- 41:46Speaker 6: Yeah, of course. Yeah, Well I'm putting that on my radar.
- 41:49Speaker 6: Thank you, Steve for making me spend some more money.
- 41:51Speaker 2: You got it, man, That's what I'm here for.
- 41:56Speaker 6: I think you guys are gonna like the first title
- 41:58Speaker 6: I'm going to talk about. This was not a first
- 41:59Speaker 6: time I'm watching. We have seen this movie plenty of times,
- 42:02Speaker 6: but I decided to go back and rewatch Cronenberg's nineteen
- 42:06Speaker 6: ninety six film Crash. I know, I know. I think
- 42:09Speaker 6: both of you guys are a fan of this one, right,
- 42:11Speaker 6: big fan. Yeah.
- 42:13Speaker 5: Yeah, It's been a while since I watched it. I'm
- 42:15Speaker 5: gonna have to go back and rewatch it again. But
- 42:17Speaker 5: I like the movie.
- 42:18Speaker 6: Yeah, go back and rewatch it. I think this is
- 42:20Speaker 6: like the fourth time I've rewatched it in the past
- 42:23Speaker 6: two years.
- 42:24Speaker 5: This movie has such a.
- 42:25Speaker 6: Like an alluring, almost like a magnetism to it that
- 42:29Speaker 6: makes me want to keep coming back to it in
- 42:31Speaker 6: this weird way, almost like the you know, the the
- 42:34Speaker 6: the allures of the accidents that our characters are sucked into.
- 42:40Speaker 6: I don't remember when or where, but somehow, maybe a
- 42:44Speaker 6: podcast or something I'd kind of stumbled across, Oh, Mike
- 42:46Speaker 6: Monster's Evolution of Horror podcast. This season, he's doing man
- 42:51Speaker 6: Made Monsters.
- 42:52Speaker 5: They did a double feature of Crash and Titan, And
- 42:59Speaker 5: that's double feature.
- 43:01Speaker 2: That's a movie we need on four K two to
- 43:03Speaker 2: go alongside with those.
- 43:05Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, their discussion of Crash, I was like, Oh,
- 43:08Speaker 5: I gotta go back and watch this again. And you know,
- 43:11Speaker 5: you guys might think I'm a little hyperbolic with this.
- 43:14Speaker 5: I think this has become my favorite Cronenberg film.
- 43:20Speaker 2: We were talking about that the other night.
- 43:22Speaker 6: It's ballsy, man, this movie's really fucking good, dude, Like,
- 43:30Speaker 6: there's just and I can't even tell you what it is,
- 43:33Speaker 6: because when it comes to Cronenberg, I find myself more
- 43:38Speaker 6: a fan of his a little bit more straight narrative films,
- 43:42Speaker 6: you know, like the fly things that are easier to
- 43:44Speaker 6: follow than opposed to his more offbeat, very Kronenbergian films
- 43:50Speaker 6: like I.
- 43:50Speaker 5: Would kind of put Crash under. But I think what
- 43:53Speaker 5: I love about Crash so much is every time I
- 43:56Speaker 5: rewatch it, I pick up on a little bit more
- 43:58Speaker 5: and a little bit more and a little bit more
- 44:00Speaker 5: that I just didn't pick up on before. And every
- 44:03Speaker 5: time I listen to somebody else kind of break down
- 44:05Speaker 5: and discuss the movie, I want to go back and
- 44:08Speaker 5: pick up on what they picked up on and it
- 44:11Speaker 5: just kind of it keeps getting better every time I
- 44:14Speaker 5: go back and I watch it again.
- 44:18Speaker 6: I think this is one of his best shot movies.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Oh it's gorgeous.
- 44:22Speaker 5: This movie's beautiful.
- 44:23Speaker 6: There is nobody, Nobody shoots sex on screen like David Cronenberg.
- 44:31Speaker 6: It's absolutely crazy. Holly Hunter is incredible in this Devora
- 44:37Speaker 6: Hunger is unbelievable. She is like a magnet, dude. Every
- 44:43Speaker 6: scene that she's in is just ferocious. She's incredible.
- 44:49Speaker 5: Elias Kotias as Vaughn, that guy is absolutely phenomenal. His character,
- 44:57Speaker 5: it's it's it's a wonderful, wonderful movie, man. That is
- 45:01Speaker 5: so strange and sexy, and like, I don't know, man,
- 45:09Speaker 5: I read this quote from Cronenberg. I guess a critic
- 45:13Speaker 5: had kind of talked about how the car crash scenes
- 45:16Speaker 5: in the movie aren't exciting, and he was like, and
- 45:19Speaker 5: they're very fast, And he's like, well, yeah, car crashes
- 45:21Speaker 5: in real life are fast.
- 45:25Speaker 6: You know, which is the most real answer you could give.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Don't forget Rosanna Arquette.
- 45:31Speaker 5: Yeah, Rosanna Arquette.
- 45:34Speaker 6: Yeah, there's a lot about this movie, man, that's really
- 45:38Speaker 6: just really alluring. And I have the Criterion Blu ray,
- 45:43Speaker 6: and there's an hour long discussion with David Cronenberg on
- 45:46Speaker 6: it that was taken from I believe it was nineteen
- 45:53Speaker 6: ninety six at the National Film Leader in London. It's
- 45:56Speaker 6: a Q and A with him.
- 45:59Speaker 5: Just I don't know, man, I don't know how to
- 46:01Speaker 5: talk about this movie in a way that's just it's so.
- 46:09Speaker 2: Seductive.
- 46:10Speaker 6: Yeah, it's seductive, and it's really fucking weird. Like the
- 46:15Speaker 6: wound fucking scene is so strange, But it's not like
- 46:22Speaker 6: it doesn't turn me away from some of the more
- 46:26Speaker 6: like the obscurity of a movie doesn't make the movie
- 46:29Speaker 6: feel less real to me, you know what I mean.
- 46:31Speaker 6: It's not so weird that I feel like I'm taking
- 46:33Speaker 6: out and I'm in a different world.
- 46:35Speaker 2: And the Howard Shore's score on top of all.
- 46:38Speaker 6: That incredible, dude. But I'll tell you what has become
- 46:41Speaker 6: my favorite scene. This whole movie feels like it's on
- 46:44Speaker 6: another planet, right, Like everything these characters do feel so
- 46:49Speaker 6: abnormal that everything feels like you're on a different planet,
- 46:53Speaker 6: and it almost feels like an out of body experience,
- 46:55Speaker 6: especially when you get to the car crash scene that
- 46:58Speaker 6: they stumble across and they're just walking around this live
- 47:04Speaker 6: active car crashing and Vond's taking photos like a full
- 47:09Speaker 6: blown photo shoot, and nobody is saying anything to them.
- 47:14Speaker 6: They just drive the car like on the side of
- 47:17Speaker 6: the road, past the accident, past the cops, and nobody
- 47:20Speaker 6: stops them. It's almost like they're in their own world
- 47:24Speaker 6: and nobody can see them. They're just they're not active
- 47:27Speaker 6: participants in it. They're just like these outside viewers to
- 47:31Speaker 6: the whole thing that can somehow kind of interact. And
- 47:34Speaker 6: it feels like they're on a totally different plane of existence,
- 47:37Speaker 6: which I think is kind of like a metaphor for
- 47:41Speaker 6: what it's like to become so engrossed and obsessed and
- 47:46Speaker 6: allord to something like they are into, like car accidents
- 47:49Speaker 6: and kind of this whole uh fetish. I guess that
- 47:52Speaker 6: they're that they've discovered I don't know, I fetish will
- 47:55Speaker 6: be the right word.
- 47:56Speaker 2: I think that's putting it lightly.
- 47:57Speaker 5: You know, you know, Chris, I want to know your
- 48:02Speaker 5: he must like cars. I mean, Christine, it's another one
- 48:05Speaker 5: where he has kind of a a little fetish about
- 48:09Speaker 5: the car. You know, when when when when when Christine
- 48:13Speaker 5: heels herself, I mean he's over there.
- 48:15Speaker 2: He's the twists and metals.
- 48:18Speaker 6: I'm discovering something, man. Pretty sure I'm going to start
- 48:20Speaker 6: re enacting my favorite celebrity crashes. Man, I think I'm
- 48:25Speaker 6: getting there.
- 48:25Speaker 2: I was gonna say, Chris, has your interest in car
- 48:27Speaker 2: crashes suddenly increased after watching Crash?
- 48:31Speaker 6: I don't know, Man, Christ kind of sweaty find out
- 48:35Speaker 6: man sweating over here. Yeah, it's just interesting, man, It's
- 48:42Speaker 6: it's going back to these and I think for me
- 48:45Speaker 6: a lot of times, it's just the it's the nineties
- 48:49Speaker 6: aesthetic that I love so much, and as I get older,
- 48:52Speaker 6: I continuously go back to There's just there's something about
- 48:57Speaker 6: the practicality of these movies and the lack of cgi
- 49:02Speaker 6: and everything being so real. You can feel out and
- 49:04Speaker 6: you can you can just touch everything, and everything looks
- 49:07Speaker 6: and just has this great mood.
- 49:09Speaker 5: This movie just has a vibe to.
- 49:12Speaker 6: It that's, you know, very sensational, and I absolutely love
- 49:16Speaker 6: it and I just keep coming back to it.
- 49:18Speaker 5: Man, It's it's really good. I think this is the
- 49:21Speaker 5: power I talk about all the time of rewatching movies,
- 49:24Speaker 5: going back and just throw them on again. It's what
- 49:29Speaker 5: your thoughts on I wanted to ask you, you had
- 49:32Speaker 5: you had talked to you, kind of talked about Cronenberg's
- 49:34Speaker 5: more straightforward stories films as compared to you know, Crash, Videodrome,
- 49:41Speaker 5: those types of films. Where would you put this along
- 49:45Speaker 5: with his more straightforward, let's say, History of Violence. I
- 49:50Speaker 5: do kind of feel like I could create two different
- 49:53Speaker 5: categories for Cronenberg. Yeah, I do feel like I could
- 49:56Speaker 5: do like.
- 49:58Speaker 6: I could do, like, you know, History of Violence, the
- 50:02Speaker 6: Fly Eastern Promises. I feel like they can kind of
- 50:07Speaker 6: be lumped in their own category. And if you're talking
- 50:08Speaker 6: about the three of those, I'm probably gonna say History
- 50:11Speaker 6: of Violence is my favorite. If you're if you're gonna
- 50:14Speaker 6: talk about, you know, the David Cronenberg of like Crimes
- 50:19Speaker 6: of the Future, Videodrome, Naked Lunch, you know what I mean, Like,
- 50:24Speaker 6: this's the really weird Kronenberg stuff. I think Crash has
- 50:27Speaker 6: become a favorite of mine. I haven't seen The Shrouds yet.
- 50:32Speaker 6: I haven't the Janus Film's release of it. I haven't
- 50:35Speaker 6: watched it yet.
- 50:39Speaker 5: Yeah, i'd probably I mean.
- 50:40Speaker 6: The Crimes of the Future, I'm getting into more and
- 50:45Speaker 6: more as I watch it. Videodrome is obviously incredible, existends.
- 50:51Speaker 6: It is incredible.
- 50:52Speaker 5: I would I would probably put for me it would probably.
- 50:57Speaker 6: Be like a video drome Scanners, you know what I mean,
- 51:04Speaker 6: Like I don't know, man, because then like I want
- 51:09Speaker 6: to put Rabbit.
- 51:10Speaker 5: Up there too. Rabbit's great, Like Rabbit.
- 51:13Speaker 6: Is incredible, And there's actually a lot of crossover that
- 51:16Speaker 6: I was reading about from Rabbit and Crash. People were
- 51:19Speaker 6: saying that Crash could technically kind of be an extension
- 51:21Speaker 6: of the survivors of Rabbit, you know what I mean,
- 51:25Speaker 6: like or not not from Rabbit from Shivers. I'm sorry, Shivers, I.
- 51:30Speaker 2: Could say that.
- 51:31Speaker 6: Yeah, people were saying, like all the survivors from Shivers
- 51:34Speaker 6: could go on to be kind of like our characters
- 51:37Speaker 6: and Crash. Uh So I would probably if I'm talking
- 51:43Speaker 6: like top three Cronenberg right now, in that category, I'd
- 51:46Speaker 6: probably go Shivers, video Drome, and probably Naked Lunch. I've
- 51:53Speaker 6: had a little bit of a fascination with bugs lately
- 51:55Speaker 6: and Naked Lunch, so that it is a good one,
- 51:58Speaker 6: and that arrow box set at least is pretty pretty phenomenal.
- 52:02Speaker 6: So I'm done talking about my fetishes, though I'm willing
- 52:05Speaker 6: to du you.
- 52:06Speaker 2: Got me oneing to rewatch this and I just watched
- 52:08Speaker 2: this movie not that long ago, so put it on.
- 52:10Speaker 5: Chris, remind me to send you a couple of hot
- 52:12Speaker 5: wheels for your birthday.
- 52:15Speaker 6: To watch crash some hot wheels.
- 52:23Speaker 5: That's funked up, dude. I'll accept it, though, You're just
- 52:29Speaker 5: gonna be uploading POV shots of you of your hands
- 52:32Speaker 5: pushing the cars around. Chris.
- 52:34Speaker 6: Chris can't stop watching car movies, like He's watched Maximum
- 52:37Speaker 6: Overdrive four times this week.
- 52:39Speaker 2: I don't know, It's like, what's what's all the heavy
- 52:40Speaker 2: breathing going on?
- 52:44Speaker 5: He's got like the you know those like when you
- 52:46Speaker 5: had a kid, the carpet with the roads on it.
- 52:49Speaker 5: He has one of those with the hot wheel, and
- 52:52Speaker 5: all I do want there is crash the cars. Oh god, well, Jordan,
- 52:59Speaker 5: I hope your next movie is just as horny as
- 53:01Speaker 5: my pick was. I mean there there's a there's a
- 53:08Speaker 5: horny esque scene, a couple of scenes in here. But no,
- 53:12Speaker 5: this is a new era release. Actually, what is I forget?
- 53:17Speaker 5: John Borman directed this film and it is his film
- 53:21Speaker 5: ex Caliber. I had never seen this one. This was
- 53:25Speaker 5: a blind by for me. And when I tell you,
- 53:30Speaker 5: this movie is incredible, I got I got like destroyed
- 53:38Speaker 5: in my comment section for calling saying the score in
- 53:41Speaker 5: this is incredible, which it is, but I guess technically
- 53:44Speaker 5: it's kind of a soundtrack, I know, but still, the
- 53:48Speaker 5: music in this movie is just phenomenal. I think the
- 53:53Speaker 5: it's the story is almost biblical like in how grand
- 53:58Speaker 5: it is. I just love the learning about the the family,
- 54:06Speaker 5: starting with Uther, King Arthur, and his his son all
- 54:10Speaker 5: in the connection with EXCaliber and you got a young
- 54:17Speaker 5: oh what's his name, Patrick Stewart's in this Young Liam
- 54:20Speaker 5: Neeson makes an appearance as well, Helen Mirren, Helen Maren
- 54:25Speaker 5: And that's kind of you you said about you know,
- 54:27Speaker 5: little little Horny. You know she uh, she does a
- 54:31Speaker 5: little bit of magic to sleep with her brother to
- 54:35Speaker 5: have their son. But Merlin, I think Merlin's probably my
- 54:39Speaker 5: favorite character of this whole movie. I love that character
- 54:43Speaker 5: and the way they talk about the old religion, which is,
- 54:48Speaker 5: you know, of sorcery and magic compared to King Arthur,
- 54:50Speaker 5: what he's bringing in the new religion of Christianity. And
- 54:53Speaker 5: it's it's just this epic tale that I just I
- 54:57Speaker 5: I bought into it wholehearted.
- 55:01Speaker 6: I've heard nothing but incredible things about this movie, and
- 55:04Speaker 6: I've never seen it. But speaking of horny, John Borman directs,
- 55:11Speaker 6: he directs Deliverance in the seventies, right, and then so
- 55:17Speaker 6: he directs Deliverance and then tell me how before he
- 55:20Speaker 6: directs Excalibur, he directs The Exorcists too.
- 55:24Speaker 5: Yeah, they mentioned that in one of the videos or something,
- 55:29Speaker 5: and I was like, that's right, he did that trash.
- 55:36Speaker 5: Oh man, Well, we don't talk about that movie. What
- 55:40Speaker 5: do you think is a better movie Excalibur or A
- 55:42Speaker 5: Kid in King Arthur's Court? I love Excalibur. No, you know,
- 55:51Speaker 5: just the way I'm going on about this movie, the
- 55:53Speaker 5: way it shot, the way that they do, like that
- 55:57Speaker 5: he uses light that shines off the armor. Just the
- 56:04Speaker 5: best way I can describe it is just grand. The
- 56:06Speaker 5: film with the music and it's it almost looks like
- 56:14Speaker 5: it opens up. It's like a fairy tale. But visually,
- 56:17Speaker 5: the coloring of it, the way it's told is like
- 56:21Speaker 5: it's like a fairy tale. I don't know how to
- 56:23Speaker 5: describe it. You need to check it out. But I
- 56:25Speaker 5: think this release too, from raw video, I mean, they
- 56:28Speaker 5: they absolutely killed it. You are getting multiple cuts of
- 56:32Speaker 5: the film like a documentary in here. The making of
- 56:40Speaker 5: you're getting the one hundred and twenty minute TV version
- 56:43Speaker 5: of the film. Yeah, lots of lots of awesome stuff
- 56:48Speaker 5: in this release. Very very.
- 56:51Speaker 2: Dude.
- 56:51Speaker 6: I've heard nothing but the most incredible things about this release,
- 56:55Speaker 6: Like I haven't seen one out of criticism about it.
- 57:00Speaker 6: If the limited edition hangs around, I think I will
- 57:02Speaker 6: pick it up at some point, but I might just
- 57:04Speaker 6: grab the standard because I've never seen it. But the
- 57:08Speaker 6: year community coming together and praising this the way they
- 57:12Speaker 6: have it makes me want to get it.
- 57:14Speaker 5: Just from that. I'm just saying, next year for the
- 57:18Speaker 5: shell Chack rewards, don't be surprised if this gets brought up.
- 57:23Speaker 5: It's it's that it's just amazing, I'm sure.
- 57:27Speaker 6: Yeah, Steve, are you a fan of this one?
- 57:30Speaker 2: I am. I haven't seen it in a long time,
- 57:32Speaker 2: but I'm definitely excited to get it in four K
- 57:36Speaker 2: and be able to I feel like, see this film
- 57:40Speaker 2: and most likely the best it'll ever look.
- 57:44Speaker 5: Yeah, hell yeah, do good choice. Jordan, goodpool. He's distracted.
- 57:49Speaker 6: I don't know what he's looking at.
- 57:50Speaker 2: No, I was just I was just reading He's look
- 57:53Speaker 2: at car crashes.
- 57:53Speaker 5: Oh yeah, what I was gonna say is that there's
- 57:58Speaker 5: a there's a document entery in here. It's kind of
- 58:01Speaker 5: a short one is forty eight minutes, but it's a
- 58:05Speaker 5: it's a documentary on the making of the film that
- 58:10Speaker 5: has never got a home video release and was very
- 58:13Speaker 5: rarely shown at all because there was like a few
- 58:16Speaker 5: prints of it, And you're getting that in here, which
- 58:18Speaker 5: I think is stunning.
- 58:20Speaker 6: Oh yeah, dude, that's awesome. Good pick EXCaliber EXCaliber Aero
- 58:26Speaker 6: four K still available. Definitely kind of running low though.
- 58:30Speaker 6: Let's do a quick let's do a quick movie room
- 58:34Speaker 6: check here and see what's going on with it. Got
- 58:37Speaker 6: ex EXCaliber forty one ninety nine. They're a zero available
- 58:41Speaker 6: to order. It's sold out. Good riddance. I know it's
- 58:46Speaker 6: still on I know it's still on Amazon and stuff.
- 58:48Speaker 6: I was I was peeping that a little bit earlier today. Also,
- 58:51Speaker 6: Barnes and Noble. Don't sleep on Barnes and Noble, for
- 58:54Speaker 6: I know that they typically yeah, I know they typically
- 58:57Speaker 6: sell at that MSRP, but usually erro stuff on some
- 59:01Speaker 6: sort of sale which puts it at just about what
- 59:03Speaker 6: you're gonna pay online retailers. So don't be afraid to
- 59:07Speaker 6: support the support Brick and Mortar that way, please, Steve,
- 59:15Speaker 6: I hope your I hope your next pick is just
- 59:18Speaker 6: as great. Man, we're on a I just want to
- 59:19Speaker 6: say everything we've talked about has been baller.
- 59:22Speaker 2: So rolling. Okay. So the next one that I have
- 59:27Speaker 2: just to branch off from my previous pick kind of
- 59:30Speaker 2: fallows under the same uh same label, but this is
- 59:36Speaker 2: at close range hmmm. So this is a release under
- 59:41Speaker 2: the Cinematograph line that Vindegar Syndrome has been working on
- 59:46Speaker 2: a lot of their releases. I've been recently picking up
- 59:51Speaker 2: and I have to say, the amount of like love
- 59:54Speaker 2: and effort that goes into each one of these makes
- 59:57Speaker 2: it I feel like a standout out of my collection.
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: And this is the movie that I had seen years ago,
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: and to finally have it in four K, not only
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: just that, but how beautiful this releases. It was incredible.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: So this is basically like a crime drama. I would
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: consider it. Have either of you guys seen this before?
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: I know the poster, like the theatrical poster, I recognize that,
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: but I've never seen it. Yeah, I just that's the
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: one with Christopher.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: Walkin right, yep, Christopher Walking, Sean Penn yep, yep, you got.
- 1:00:37Speaker 5: All I know about that is Sean Penn, I think
- 1:00:39Speaker 5: plays his son, yes, and there's just like it's he
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: introduces him into a world of crime or something. I mean,
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: I could completely wrong, but I've heard amazing things about this.
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: I just have never seen it.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: I can't recommend this one any higher. This is a
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: film that I feel like doesn't get enough love and
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: and if you're into those type of like gritty crime thrillers,
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: this is definitely I would say one that I think
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: is probably like top tier when it comes to the
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: ones I can think of. But overall, this release is incredible.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: So you actually get a new audio commentary with film
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: historians Bill Ackerman and Jim Liskowski. You also get an
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: archival audio commentary with director James Foley and it's moderated
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: by film historian Nick Redman. You get a new video
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: interview with Christopher walk In, new video interview with Sean
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: Penn as well, and then you get a couple other
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: ones on here as well as some archival interviews. So
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: I just feel like that this is a release that's
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: incredibly stacked. Some of the other films I could think
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: of off the top of my head that this line
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: has put out. The Gambler is another great release that
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: I would strongly recommend, Married to the Mob Dangerous Games.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: So I can't emphasize enough at least checking out this line.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: Finderger Syndrome is doing some incredible work here and this
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: gets my highest recommendation by far.
- 1:02:18Speaker 6: I'm looking into this Unfortunately. Director James Foley we lost
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: the last May at seventy one years old.
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: He directed.
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: Glen Garry Glenn Ross, which was a film I studied
- 1:02:34Speaker 6: in high school for my writing class, which is I
- 1:02:38Speaker 6: think anybody who's been through any sort of film education
- 1:02:41Speaker 6: has seen Glengarry Glenn Ross. He also directed, He's done
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: a lot of work with Mark Warber. He directed Fear
- 1:02:49Speaker 6: with market Mark good one, that's a very good one.
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: Then he directed Marky Mark Hey DJ music video. He
- 1:02:57Speaker 6: also directed The Corruptor, which is Chiayon Fat and Mark Wahlberg.
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: But just to top it off, he did also direct
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Free.
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: That looks like those were his last two directing efforts
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: twenty eighteen.
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: Very diverse filmography.
- 1:03:18Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah it is, you know, but I feel like
- 1:03:22Speaker 6: these types of directors don't exist anymore where they just
- 1:03:25Speaker 6: have the like we talked about earlier with Adrian Line,
- 1:03:28Speaker 6: these are just directors for hire that you can kind
- 1:03:30Speaker 6: of give them anything and they'll make it work. They'll
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: do great work with I feel like these really don't
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: exist much anymore.
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: Man. That's sad to we lost him in twenty twenty
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: five res in Peace James Foley.
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: At close range, very nice.
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: Pick what you got next me? Yeah?
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: Man, all right, he'll be shy, fine, I'll talk about it.
- 1:03:54Speaker 6: I decided to go back the other day and revisit
- 1:03:57Speaker 6: a movie of mine that I think deserves a better
- 1:03:59Speaker 6: really than we do have. We just have a studio
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: released from it on on physical media, and I wish
- 1:04:04Speaker 6: we could go back and kind of get something a
- 1:04:05Speaker 6: little bit better. But I revisited Mike Flanagain's Doctor Sleep
- 1:04:11Speaker 6: the three hour director's cut. I've never seen the theatrical
- 1:04:13Speaker 6: cut before. I've only ever seen the director's cut of this.
- 1:04:17Speaker 6: I have just a regular, you know, studio blue of
- 1:04:20Speaker 6: this very nice. What's your guys' thoughts before I go
- 1:04:25Speaker 6: into it of Doctor Sleep versus The Shine.
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: I'll be honest, I haven't, and I'm being totally honest.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: With you, guys. I have not checked out a lot
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: of Mike Flanagainst works, that being one of them. Some
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: sell me on this.
- 1:04:47Speaker 6: Jordan Doctor Sleep versus The Shining.
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: I mean, I've got a soft spot for The Shining.
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: That's uh, that's up there is like my favorite Quboric film.
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: This is a very good film. I've actually never seen
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: the three hour cut. I've only seen the theatrical cut. Okay,
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: that being said, that's I might feel different about this.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: I'm not saying I don't like this movie. I'm just
- 1:05:14Speaker 5: saying I might feel different if I saw his three
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: hour theatrical cut, might sway me over to Doctor Sleep
- 1:05:21Speaker 5: a little more, because I hear there's some people that
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: actually prefer this over The Shining. I am one of
- 1:05:27Speaker 5: Stephen King being one of them. Yes, you know, uh,
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: but yes, I do agree that we do need a
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: better release, and I do know that that three hour
- 1:05:38Speaker 5: theatrical cut is only available on Blu Ray and there's
- 1:05:41Speaker 5: no four K for it.
- 1:05:43Speaker 6: Yeah, I so I am one of those people who
- 1:05:47Speaker 6: prefer Doctor Sleep over The Shining. Before people get in
- 1:05:50Speaker 6: an uproar about that, I love Stanley Kubrick's The Shining
- 1:05:54Speaker 6: and I don't think anybody can deny the technical wizardry
- 1:05:58Speaker 6: of Kubrick. I think Shining is a pretty perfect movie
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: as far as technical direction and sound design goes. So
- 1:06:06Speaker 6: Doctor Sleep Steve is the sequel that Stephen King wrote
- 1:06:10Speaker 6: to The Shining, and we follow an older Danny, okay,
- 1:06:15Speaker 6: And essentially what we learn is that there is a
- 1:06:20Speaker 6: group of people who are hunting people with the Shine
- 1:06:28Speaker 6: and they're essentially stealing their shine from them, and that
- 1:06:33Speaker 6: is giving them the ability to live practically forever for
- 1:06:37Speaker 6: a long time. They're not immortal, but they live for
- 1:06:39Speaker 6: a very very long time basically hunting down and feeding
- 1:06:42Speaker 6: off of these people shine.
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: Now, had either of you guys seen or seen had
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: either of you guys read the book before seen the
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: movie my wife? Okay, I'm just scurious.
- 1:06:56Speaker 5: My wife did, and she said it was pretty close.
- 1:06:58Speaker 6: It's pretty interesting, pretty faithful. It is definitely a large,
- 1:07:07Speaker 6: like immersive experience. It is three hours with the director's
- 1:07:09Speaker 6: cut exactly three hours long. It spans a long time.
- 1:07:13Speaker 6: There is an eight year time jump kind of in
- 1:07:16Speaker 6: the middle of the movie, but it doesn't feel.
- 1:07:21Speaker 5: Sudden.
- 1:07:22Speaker 6: It also doesn't ruin the pace of the movie at
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: all you know, I mean, it feels very fluid. Eo
- 1:07:28Speaker 6: McGregor plays older Danny. He is phenomenal in the role.
- 1:07:33Speaker 6: You have Rebecca Ferguson who plays Rose the Hat, who
- 1:07:35Speaker 6: is sort of our main villain, the leader of this
- 1:07:39Speaker 6: group of people that are stealing the shine.
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: There is one of the most.
- 1:07:46Speaker 6: Traumatizing scenes of this movie involving the murder of a
- 1:07:53Speaker 6: boy of a young kid in this movie that is
- 1:07:57Speaker 6: traumatizing as all hell, and Mike Flanagan holds no punches
- 1:08:03Speaker 6: and it's one of the most talked about moments of
- 1:08:05Speaker 6: the book and it's a very highly talked about moment
- 1:08:08Speaker 6: of this movie. One interesting thing about Doctor Sleep is
- 1:08:14Speaker 6: that Mike Flanagan came to a very strange crossroad where
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: he tried to pay homage and respect the Stanley Kubrick's
- 1:08:22Speaker 6: of Shining but also respect to Stephen King and his
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: love for the ending of the Shining Book. So they
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: changed the ending of Doctor Sleep to kind of satisfy
- 1:08:34Speaker 6: all like all interested parties, and he got one hundred
- 1:08:41Speaker 6: percent approval from Stephen King to do this. But the
- 1:08:45Speaker 6: ending of this movie is very faithful to the ending
- 1:08:47Speaker 6: of the Shining Book. While also wrapping up Doctor Sleep nicely.
- 1:08:53Speaker 6: So there is a little bit of like band aiding
- 1:08:55Speaker 6: here to kind of like treat Die King fans who
- 1:09:01Speaker 6: had some gripe with Kubrick's The Shining, as well as
- 1:09:05Speaker 6: kind of giving Stephen King, you know, the respect of
- 1:09:08Speaker 6: the ending that he wanted to see and doing it
- 1:09:10Speaker 6: in a typical Mike Flanagan way. I think Flanagan's an
- 1:09:14Speaker 6: incredible director. He's got the same technical, you know, magical
- 1:09:20Speaker 6: work that Koprick had. The movie is incredibly well directed.
- 1:09:23Speaker 6: It looks phenomenal, It balances the many plot points very
- 1:09:29Speaker 6: very well. Things never feel lost or crazy. There's also
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: a beautiful visual component here. There's this great scene when
- 1:09:35Speaker 6: Rose the Hat kind of goes out of body to
- 1:09:38Speaker 6: track down this this girl who's been kind of invading
- 1:09:43Speaker 6: her mind lately, and it does this really cool thing
- 1:09:45Speaker 6: where she's kind of floating over the earth, she's kind
- 1:09:48Speaker 6: of flying above, and it's this really cool visual stuff.
- 1:09:51Speaker 6: It's just it's really really cool and Freddie fans of
- 1:09:54Speaker 6: Gerald's game Mike Flanagan's Netflix movie. There is another like
- 1:09:58Speaker 6: hand skinning scene, de gloving scene, I think is that
- 1:10:01Speaker 6: they call it so lots of really good stuff here man,
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: and I just I see this kind of becoming a
- 1:10:09Speaker 6: comfort movie of mine. It just flows so well, and
- 1:10:13Speaker 6: I think the story is so well told, and I
- 1:10:15Speaker 6: think it got a lot of really good reception when
- 1:10:18Speaker 6: it came out, and then conversation since then has kind
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: of just died out about it. But I think it's
- 1:10:23Speaker 6: because Flanagin just keeps doing like everything that he does
- 1:10:26Speaker 6: is like headline with the Exorcists and the Carry's you
- 1:10:30Speaker 6: know TV show, and now he's going to remake The
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: Mists or he's going to readapt the Mist. So I
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: feel like this has kind of fallen off as far
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: as as far as attention goes. But I think if
- 1:10:38Speaker 6: we got like a nice like second site four K
- 1:10:40Speaker 6: of this or a nice arrow or a set of
- 1:10:43Speaker 6: this with like a good documentary and a good commentary,
- 1:10:46Speaker 6: I think this would reignite kind of the fire under
- 1:10:49Speaker 6: the discussion of this versus the shining.
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: So I don't even know if this has any Oh yeah,
- 1:10:57Speaker 5: there's a making of and then.
- 1:11:00Speaker 6: These are just like ePK bonus features, you know what
- 1:11:03Speaker 6: I mean, It's nothing, nothing crazy. I would love to
- 1:11:05Speaker 6: season more Come come from a Good Doctor Sleep release
- 1:11:08Speaker 6: so I'm gonna put it out in the universe now
- 1:11:12Speaker 6: hopefully somebody's listening umbrella excuse me? Oh yeah, so that
- 1:11:19Speaker 6: is my second pick, Jordan, what's next?
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: I'm gonna go with this one now. I just got
- 1:11:29Speaker 5: this in. I haven't finished watching this. I've seen this
- 1:11:31Speaker 5: movie before, just this release. I haven't finished diving through
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: the whole thing. But it's it's Second Sight's first release
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: of this year. Only one they've announced Second Side. I'm
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: waiting for that other announcement.
- 1:11:44Speaker 6: It's March March second Come on, second Say, that's what
- 1:11:47Speaker 6: I'm saying.
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: Anyways, it's their four K release of The Ugly step Sister.
- 1:11:52Speaker 5: This movie came out last year on It was a
- 1:11:54Speaker 5: shutter title. It's a Norwegian body horror period piece film
- 1:12:00Speaker 5: that takes the story of Cinderella and it kind of
- 1:12:05Speaker 5: flips on his head and tells the story through the
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: lens of one of the ugly stepsisters, actually the older
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: one in this case, and it's closer to the original
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: Grim's fairy Tale of Cinderella. The film opens up with
- 1:12:25Speaker 5: the step mother and the stepsisters going and moving into
- 1:12:30Speaker 5: the house to meet Cinderella's dad. I think her name
- 1:12:35Speaker 5: in this movie is Agnes. They changed some of the names,
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: but goes to meet him, and how he dies in
- 1:12:42Speaker 5: this movie is ridiculous. He kind of not ridiculous, it's
- 1:12:45Speaker 5: it's pretty gruesome. They're at a dinner table and he's
- 1:12:48Speaker 5: eating and he starts to like have a heart attack
- 1:12:51Speaker 5: or choke or something, and he just like spews blood
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: out of his mouth. And anyways, what I love about
- 1:12:58Speaker 5: this movie is it's so beautifully shot. It is a
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: gorgeous film. It feels so of that time. You feel,
- 1:13:09Speaker 5: it feels so lived, and it feels that you buy
- 1:13:11Speaker 5: right into it. And of course the body heart aspect
- 1:13:15Speaker 5: of it because it goes. It's interesting what they do
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: is because it's through the eyes of one of the stepsisters.
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: It's really her going through this. It talks about generational
- 1:13:27Speaker 5: trauma in the movie. And so the youngest, the stepster's
- 1:13:31Speaker 5: ely stepsis is basically the step mom is treating her
- 1:13:37Speaker 5: horribly because of what happened to her, and so she
- 1:13:41Speaker 5: is she goes to school. Right they're getting ready for
- 1:13:43Speaker 5: the ball for the prince and the whole scheme that
- 1:13:47Speaker 5: the stepmother decides. You guys probably know the story is
- 1:13:51Speaker 5: that Okay, you're gonna go marry the prince so we
- 1:13:53Speaker 5: can get all this money because we have no money
- 1:13:56Speaker 5: after you know, the Cinderella's dad died, so she's trying
- 1:14:01Speaker 5: to she's going to the school because they're gonna teach
- 1:14:04Speaker 5: them to dance. And so they say, no, you're ugly.
- 1:14:06Speaker 5: You need to lose weight. You've got, you know, all
- 1:14:10Speaker 5: the stuff you have to do to yourself. Get in
- 1:14:12Speaker 5: the back of the class of the you know, we
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: don't want to see you. It gets to the point
- 1:14:18Speaker 5: where I don't know if it's really spoiling anything, but
- 1:14:21Speaker 5: on the back they have it right there, that's a
- 1:14:24Speaker 5: tapeworm egg. So one of the teachers says, hey, you
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: need to lose some weight. Eat this tapeworm egg and
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: it's gonna eat everything you eat. So she does, and
- 1:14:36Speaker 5: the front, as you can see, I mean it's in
- 1:14:37Speaker 5: the trailer, she wears this little nose piece. It has
- 1:14:40Speaker 5: a very brutal scene of her, you know, getting essentially
- 1:14:47Speaker 5: plastic surgery to get a new nose. All this stuff.
- 1:14:51Speaker 5: It gets really wild and gross at the end, but
- 1:14:56Speaker 5: it does tell a good story of you. No matter
- 1:14:59Speaker 5: what you change on the outside, there's still something on
- 1:15:01Speaker 5: the inside. You know, some beauty is only skin deep. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:15:07Speaker 5: but man, it's I was so happy when I saw
- 1:15:11Speaker 5: that Second Site. It seems like a film that's right
- 1:15:14Speaker 5: up second sides out of the really to release. You're
- 1:15:17Speaker 5: getting some great things in this, Uh they brought back.
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: You're getting a brand new audio commentary by the director.
- 1:15:25Speaker 5: Two actually two brand new audio commentaries, one from the director,
- 1:15:28Speaker 5: one from Megan Navuro. Yeah, she's getting a bunch of
- 1:15:32Speaker 5: new interviews in this, some feature rats. You're also getting
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: a short film in this as well. It's a really
- 1:15:39Speaker 5: packed release. And then of course, you know Second Site
- 1:15:41Speaker 5: with their booklets are always incredible, So.
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: I gotta pick this one up.
- 1:15:45Speaker 6: Yeah, there's currently fourteen still available over at the Movie
- 1:15:48Speaker 6: Room for forty eight ninety nine.
- 1:15:50Speaker 5: I'm surprised there's still that many left. I thought this
- 1:15:52Speaker 5: one was gonna be a quick sellout.
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: Yeahony page book, Wow.
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: It's uh yeah. And and and the presentation that seconds
- 1:16:02Speaker 5: I gave this release. The artwork is stunning, So I
- 1:16:08Speaker 5: really enjoy this one.
- 1:16:10Speaker 6: Very nice.
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: Man.
- 1:16:10Speaker 6: I've never seen this one.
- 1:16:12Speaker 5: Yeah, it's on it's on shutter so you can watch
- 1:16:14Speaker 5: it there.
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: Yeah, it's been on. It's been on my list. I
- 1:16:17Speaker 6: remember I showed my wife the trailer and the trailer
- 1:16:20Speaker 6: was like very uh over stimulating. It remind me I
- 1:16:26Speaker 6: feel like it was still part of that like style
- 1:16:28Speaker 6: of marketing posts to substance when everything was very like
- 1:16:33Speaker 6: like beat heavy and like very fast, very stimulating, you
- 1:16:37Speaker 6: know what I mean. So yeah, a lot, but yeah,
- 1:16:41Speaker 6: I I gotta check this out. Actually might just pick
- 1:16:43Speaker 6: this up from from the new rooms. There's still so
- 1:16:46Speaker 6: many available. One hundred and twenty page book. It's a
- 1:16:48Speaker 6: very thick boy. Chris, oh yeah calling me man, I
- 1:16:52Speaker 6: hear it.
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: I mean, Chris, you can take a look at that.
- 1:16:57Speaker 6: It was like the Drive book. Yeah, oh yeah nice.
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: But I really enjoy this. The music's great. They it's
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: not period accurate music, so it's kind of cool what
- 1:17:11Speaker 5: they did with the music in this. I love when
- 1:17:13Speaker 5: movies do that, when it's like nights Tale, where we.
- 1:17:15Speaker 6: Will rock you you know please.
- 1:17:17Speaker 5: I mean, it doesn't go that crazy, but.
- 1:17:20Speaker 6: It's like the first example my brain goes to.
- 1:17:22Speaker 5: It's like people people actually complain about Nightsdale and they're like, ye,
- 1:17:26Speaker 5: it's not period accurate music. I'm like, are you sure, queen?
- 1:17:28Speaker 5: Didn't write that night. A pretty sure about that, all right? Uh,
- 1:17:35Speaker 5: great pick man.
- 1:17:36Speaker 6: Second Sight Films always knocking it out of the park.
- 1:17:39Speaker 6: A huge fan of them. If anybody wants a little
- 1:17:42Speaker 6: bit more insight through their process, go back to All
- 1:17:45Speaker 6: Guests of twenty twenty five and we interviewed Second Sight's
- 1:17:47Speaker 6: Philip Scott. He gives a lot of insight into uh,
- 1:17:50Speaker 6: producing bonus features for Second Sight Films.
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: So just a little a little plug there, Steve, what's
- 1:17:57Speaker 5: your next pick for us? Man? Man?
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: Okay, I'm excited to talk about this one. Okay, So
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: I know this release has been out for some time.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: I just never got around to actually picking it up.
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: But that is none other than the nineties erotic thriller
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: Wild Things. Yes, oh my gosh. Okay, So this film
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: is directed by John McNaughton. So he's actually the same
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: director who did Henry Portrait of a serial Killer and
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: Wild Things is I would say, almost like a complete
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: one eighty from that style of film, because I feel
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: like that's pretty gritty and this is very seductive. So, guys,
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: what's what's the consensus on Wild Things?
- 1:18:49Speaker 6: This is great, man.
- 1:18:50Speaker 5: This is a very hoigh episode of after hours. I
- 1:18:53Speaker 5: enjoy it, and it's it's very it's what's word I'm
- 1:18:59Speaker 5: looking for. It's appropriate that you're choosing this movie with
- 1:19:04Speaker 5: Nev Campbell.
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: Oh for yeah, this is Denise Richards.
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: Denise Richards Man.
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: I love Wild Things, Man. I think this is just
- 1:19:14Speaker 6: like the perfect example.
- 1:19:15Speaker 5: Of late nineties, you know, like sleazy sweaty seeazy Florida weather.
- 1:19:23Speaker 6: My only gripe with this movie in the spoiler alert
- 1:19:26Speaker 6: for anybody who hasn't seen the almost is what is
- 1:19:33Speaker 6: nineteen ninety thirty year old.
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: Movie.
- 1:19:37Speaker 6: But I really wish they kept in the Kevin Bacon
- 1:19:44Speaker 6: Matt Dillon shower sex scene. That's the only thing I
- 1:19:47Speaker 6: wish they had kept in because I thought that would
- 1:19:48Speaker 6: have brought this movie to the next level.
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: Just saying Chris, I feel like you're finding too close
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: to the sun.
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: No, did you guys not know that?
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: I remember hearing something about I'm not super familiar with.
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: No enlighten me.
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: I gotta yeah. Yeah.
- 1:20:03Speaker 6: So, well, you know, at the end of Kevin Bacon's
- 1:20:06Speaker 6: in the shower and you know you have Matt Dylan
- 1:20:10Speaker 6: looking in on him. You know, originally in the original script,
- 1:20:14Speaker 6: Matt Dylan goes into the shower with him and it's
- 1:20:17Speaker 6: revealed that they are together, and I feel like, ah,
- 1:20:21Speaker 6: that's the swing that really would have like brought this
- 1:20:26Speaker 6: movie to that next level, like once I heard about that,
- 1:20:30Speaker 6: because I remember watching this and thinking like, Okay, there's
- 1:20:33Speaker 6: something here. I just feel like it felt like a
- 1:20:36Speaker 6: pulled punch. It was like, we have this idea, we're
- 1:20:40Speaker 6: afraid to do it, and they pulled the punch by
- 1:20:45Speaker 6: just kind of if you catch it then you can, okay.
- 1:20:50Speaker 6: I feel like they it's on record that they were
- 1:20:53Speaker 6: going to do it, and they didn't.
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: I just wish they did.
- 1:20:57Speaker 6: I feel like that would have been you know, I
- 1:20:58Speaker 6: mean not not that that's not that saying that's what
- 1:21:00Speaker 6: I wanted to see, but I feel like that just would.
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: Have been It would have fully committed basically what they
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: were trying to do with it exactly.
- 1:21:07Speaker 6: I mean, you have this movie has one of the
- 1:21:09Speaker 6: rare like threesome scenes from the nineties, like you can
- 1:21:13Speaker 6: do that, but you're afraid to have two men in
- 1:21:15Speaker 6: the shower, you know what I mean?
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: This is I mean, I don't know about you guys,
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: even watching it now, It's a movie that I would
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: best describe as you think you have an idea what's
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: going on in this movie, and you definitely don't. Like
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: there are so many twists and turns with this movie.
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: I remember the first time watching it and I just
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: remember walking away from it, like, what in the absolute
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: fuck I just watch? But that's what I love about it,
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: and that's why I feel like that this is such
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: a highlight of the nineties for me. I know we
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: had previously covered Bound before, and that's like another one.
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: It's like, I think around this time, you know, you're
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: kind of getting directors pushing the envelope with like what
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: you can get away with, and this I definitely feel
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: like has to be I would say up there as
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: far as like a thriller that we were getting around
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: this time. But Erro Video did an incredible job with
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: the four K restoration. So you have the theatrical and
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: extended unrated edition, and let's see what else we got
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: on here. So you actually get an exclusive new audio
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: commentary by director John McNaughten and producer stephen A. Jones.
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: There's a commentary by the director, cinematographer Jeffrey Kimball, producers
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: stephen A. Jones, and Rodney Lieber, editor Elena Imaginating, and
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: then score composer George S. Clinton, as well as a
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: bunch of new interviews with some of the casts and director.
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: This is one that I feel like if you're looking
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: at Aero Video and like their limited edition box sets
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: from when they were like really really getting more established,
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: this is definitely one of the releases I come back
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: to for sure.
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: I actually bought this and True Romance in the same
- 1:23:17Speaker 6: Barnes and Noble trip. Like early on Barnes and Noble
- 1:23:21Speaker 6: carrying limited editions, I bought Wild Things and True Romance together,
- 1:23:26Speaker 6: and I think.
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: Took a one two punch.
- 1:23:28Speaker 6: I think I paid like thirty bucks apiece if I
- 1:23:31Speaker 6: remember correctly that trip. I think it was like sixty
- 1:23:33Speaker 6: bucks for the two of them. Wild Things is great, dude.
- 1:23:37Speaker 6: That movie is so much fun. It's it's incredibly aware
- 1:23:41Speaker 6: of what it is and it just leans into it
- 1:23:44Speaker 6: so heavily. I think Matt Dillon is a treasure. I've
- 1:23:49Speaker 6: always loved that guy. Kevin Beagan is great. Dedise Richards,
- 1:23:53Speaker 6: you know, I think we all kind of had some
- 1:23:55Speaker 6: feelings towards her that that's you know, gamble coming off
- 1:23:59Speaker 6: of uh scream at this point. You know, Yeah, there's
- 1:24:06Speaker 6: a lot about this movie that's incredibly alluring, and I.
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: Think that's putting it mildly due it is.
- 1:24:13Speaker 5: Yeah, I think I think I think the hottest part
- 1:24:16Speaker 5: about this movie though, is Bill Murray.
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: Yeah. I always forget about that, Like it's so it's
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: so so out it is.
- 1:24:26Speaker 6: Yeah, having him, he's like in the cast. He's like, yeah,
- 1:24:30Speaker 6: it's it's it's a crazy movie, man. I mean, this
- 1:24:32Speaker 6: is like essential late nineties cinema. You know, I feel
- 1:24:36Speaker 6: like I feel bad for the generations of kids that
- 1:24:40Speaker 6: are being raised without sneaking in a viewing of wild
- 1:24:44Speaker 6: things in your life. You know, it's not the same.
- 1:24:47Speaker 6: It's not the same. We are not the same.
- 1:24:49Speaker 5: No, so great pick, Steve, great pick. Of course.
- 1:24:57Speaker 6: Of course I have one more, okay and ready for it.
- 1:25:02Speaker 6: This one is kind of an interesting one to talk about.
- 1:25:06Speaker 6: I'm still kind of diving into the book a little
- 1:25:08Speaker 6: little bit. I think I got like two more essays
- 1:25:10Speaker 6: left to read. I'm talking about Ever released from Eureka Entertainment.
- 1:25:15Speaker 5: It's my first Eureka pickup and it is a four
- 1:25:19Speaker 5: K of Claire Denise's Trouble every Day any of you guys.
- 1:25:23Speaker 6: Picked this one up.
- 1:25:25Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I did not. Okay, okay, Jordan, did you
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: watch it?
- 1:25:28Speaker 6: Oh yeah, all right. What's your thoughts on Trouble every Day?
- 1:25:31Speaker 5: It's wild? It's yeah, dude, that you know what' seeing
- 1:25:36Speaker 5: I'm talking about. At the end, I know what you're
- 1:25:38Speaker 5: talking about.
- 1:25:39Speaker 6: Yeah, I know what you're talking about.
- 1:25:42Speaker 5: It gets a little, uh, a little chompy, does It
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: does get very chompy chompy.
- 1:25:48Speaker 6: It does get chompy.
- 1:25:49Speaker 5: It does get chomping. Trouble every Day is interesting one.
- 1:25:53Speaker 6: So this comes from two thousand and one, and this
- 1:25:55Speaker 6: is sort of lumped into the New French Extremity movement,
- 1:26:01Speaker 6: which is really interesting because most of the prominent names
- 1:26:05Speaker 6: in the New French Extremity movement are kind of known
- 1:26:08Speaker 6: for this genre of film. Where Claire Denis, while her
- 1:26:12Speaker 6: films have always been very important and have heavy aspects
- 1:26:17Speaker 6: of kind of of violence in them, this is really
- 1:26:20Speaker 6: the only one that you could lamp lump into like
- 1:26:23Speaker 6: the New French extremity film for her, and which is
- 1:26:26Speaker 6: funny because it's such a landmark title for that subgenre.
- 1:26:30Speaker 6: But Trouble every Day tells the story of kind of
- 1:26:34Speaker 6: a double story happening. You have an American couple, a
- 1:26:39Speaker 6: doctor and his new and his wife just married, who
- 1:26:41Speaker 6: go to Paris on their honeymoon, and we kind of
- 1:26:48Speaker 6: get caught up in that the husband's not really interested
- 1:26:51Speaker 6: in his wife and he's too busy out.
- 1:26:55Speaker 5: Searching for another doctor.
- 1:26:56Speaker 6: We don't really know why, and we also kind of
- 1:27:00Speaker 6: follow this other doctor and kind of this the story
- 1:27:04Speaker 6: of him taking care.
- 1:27:05Speaker 5: Of his sick wife, who has some some some vampiric
- 1:27:11Speaker 5: qualities to her. She loves to She goes out and
- 1:27:16Speaker 5: sort of.
- 1:27:18Speaker 6: Seduces men, and then in the height of her passion,
- 1:27:21Speaker 6: begins to like physically consume them and eat them, and
- 1:27:28Speaker 6: not eat them like fully, but just tear bits of
- 1:27:30Speaker 6: flesh away and bite.
- 1:27:32Speaker 5: She she nibbles at them. I mean there are some
- 1:27:35Speaker 5: pretty you know, she does take some some some big
- 1:27:37Speaker 5: chunks every now and then.
- 1:27:38Speaker 6: But uh, this is an incredibly interesting one because it's
- 1:27:43Speaker 6: a very slow burn, very slow burn. This is a
- 1:27:47Speaker 6: movie that really takes its time, and it's much more
- 1:27:51Speaker 6: focused on the drama and the kind of contrast single
- 1:28:00Speaker 6: love stories that are at play here between this very loving,
- 1:28:05Speaker 6: nurturing relationship between our doctor and our main character who
- 1:28:10Speaker 6: is out eating people, and our American couple who this
- 1:28:14Speaker 6: relationship feels very kind of he's very neglectful of her.
- 1:28:19Speaker 6: She just wants her attention. And at the same time,
- 1:28:22Speaker 6: there's this kind of subplot of the mate of not
- 1:28:25Speaker 6: the mate of, like the one of the caretakers at
- 1:28:28Speaker 6: the hotel who sort of becomes fascinated with him, and
- 1:28:32Speaker 6: there's a couple of plots happening. But Claire Deny's direction
- 1:28:35Speaker 6: here is incredible. The violence in this film is is sparing,
- 1:28:44Speaker 6: but it's so intense when it When it happens, it's
- 1:28:48Speaker 6: very very gratuitous in always both with the volume of
- 1:28:55Speaker 6: nudity and the volume of violence, even though they kind
- 1:28:58Speaker 6: of don't pop up as often. And it's a movie
- 1:29:02Speaker 6: I think much more interested with the drama and kind
- 1:29:05Speaker 6: of the showcasing of the human body and kind of
- 1:29:07Speaker 6: playing with all of these very what's the term I
- 1:29:12Speaker 6: want to look for, very kind of like objective ideals,
- 1:29:16Speaker 6: but really interesting part of the French extremity movement because
- 1:29:21Speaker 6: it's not as extreme as I think some of the
- 1:29:23Speaker 6: other cases, you know, but definitely one worth looking into.
- 1:29:29Speaker 6: This release from Eureka is absolutely fantastic. This was my
- 1:29:35Speaker 6: first exposure to Eureka. And on this release, you have
- 1:29:39Speaker 6: a four K, you have a Blu ray. You only
- 1:29:41Speaker 6: have two bonus features, but I think two very prominent
- 1:29:44Speaker 6: pieces that you have to look into. One of them
- 1:29:47Speaker 6: is an interview with the New French extremity expert Alice
- 1:29:50Speaker 6: Haylett Bryan. That's like a twenty five minute conversation with her,
- 1:29:55Speaker 6: and it's incredible. She gives a lot of insight into
- 1:29:57Speaker 6: clear Deni as a filmmaker, but as well as kind
- 1:29:59Speaker 6: of like the subgenre of New French extremity. Then you
- 1:30:03Speaker 6: also have material Vampires and the Defeat of Science, which
- 1:30:06Speaker 6: is a new video essay by film scholar I think
- 1:30:09Speaker 6: her name is Virginia Sillabi. Forgive me if I'm saying
- 1:30:14Speaker 6: that wrong.
- 1:30:15Speaker 5: But yeah, great.
- 1:30:16Speaker 6: There's also five essays, including a booklet here. It's about
- 1:30:19Speaker 6: fifty seven pages long.
- 1:30:21Speaker 5: All of them are very good at expanding the education
- 1:30:25Speaker 5: of the film, so much so that I actually went
- 1:30:28Speaker 5: back and watched this again after diving into the visual
- 1:30:31Speaker 5: essay and stuff.
- 1:30:32Speaker 6: I gave it a day and I kind of went
- 1:30:33Speaker 6: back into it and liked it even more on that
- 1:30:36Speaker 6: second round.
- 1:30:37Speaker 5: So yeah, hell yeah, Trouble every Day from Eureka. I
- 1:30:40Speaker 5: don't know if this is still available.
- 1:30:44Speaker 6: It's a good choice, thank you sir.
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: This is a four K.
- 1:30:48Speaker 6: There are twenty eight available over at the movie room
- 1:30:50Speaker 6: dot com for thirty nine ninety nine. I didn't expect
- 1:30:54Speaker 6: this to be a big hit among general audiences, but yeah,
- 1:30:59Speaker 6: there's there's available. It is supposed to be limited in
- 1:31:02Speaker 6: three thousand copies, but it looks like there's still a
- 1:31:04Speaker 6: bunch kind of floating around out there. So if you're
- 1:31:06Speaker 6: into if you're into kind of the more extreme side
- 1:31:13Speaker 6: of international cinema and you want a story that's very
- 1:31:17Speaker 6: actually Jordan, you know what this makes me feel?
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: Like?
- 1:31:20Speaker 6: This movie gives me very heavy like genre on vibes. Yeah,
- 1:31:26Speaker 6: like just sort of some of the direction, in some
- 1:31:28Speaker 6: of the visual sense, but also like I know, I
- 1:31:31Speaker 6: think Alice brings up like some comparisons to like Fascination,
- 1:31:35Speaker 6: which Indicator did a incredible release of.
- 1:31:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I'll have to go back. I need to go
- 1:31:40Speaker 5: back and rewatch Trouble every Day since really getting into
- 1:31:44Speaker 5: genre on, because I think I would see this movie
- 1:31:47Speaker 5: with a different lens. Yeah, so that's something I'd have
- 1:31:50Speaker 5: to do. But from what I can remember of the film,
- 1:31:54Speaker 5: it does have that about it.
- 1:31:59Speaker 6: Yeah, it does. It was something that I picked up on,
- 1:32:02Speaker 6: like I was kind of like, oh, I could see
- 1:32:04Speaker 6: the comparison here. And then when I was listening to
- 1:32:06Speaker 6: the interview with with Alice Halt, I was like she
- 1:32:10Speaker 6: brought it up and I was like, ah, yes, that
- 1:32:12Speaker 6: was exactly. I'm like, I'm glad we kind of picked
- 1:32:13Speaker 6: up on the same thing because I got the same vibes.
- 1:32:16Speaker 5: But uh, yeah, that was my last like you know,
- 1:32:18Speaker 5: real like kind of like watch to talk about for
- 1:32:23Speaker 5: the next stories. Thank you, Thank you, Jordan.
- 1:32:27Speaker 6: What up me? Man?
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: Oh man, Well we'll see. I have this film right here.
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: It's a uh that's a little Wes Craven film. It's
- 1:32:39Speaker 5: got a new release this actually it's a four K
- 1:32:43Speaker 5: and that is going to be swamp thing.
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:32:48Speaker 5: Look, we all like this movie for Adrian Barbo. I'm
- 1:32:51Speaker 5: not gonna sugarcoat it. That's why we watched this movie.
- 1:32:53Speaker 6: I don't know what you're talking about.
- 1:32:55Speaker 5: Yeah, sure you don't. Now, this is a great This
- 1:32:59Speaker 5: is a a very fun movie. I have a great
- 1:33:02Speaker 5: time with this. You know, it had been a long
- 1:33:07Speaker 5: time since I've seen this movie. I know MVD has
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: a four K, and I wasn't gonna pick that up.
- 1:33:12Speaker 5: But when eighty eight announced this, especially with the cover
- 1:33:15Speaker 5: art that this thing has and just the presentation that
- 1:33:18Speaker 5: they were able to give this film, I was like,
- 1:33:19Speaker 5: this is a no brainer for me to pick up.
- 1:33:21Speaker 5: This has the actor with I think his name is
- 1:33:27Speaker 5: David Hess. Yeah, dude, due that dude. I feel like
- 1:33:31Speaker 5: is in everything as a small roles. He pops up everywhere.
- 1:33:35Speaker 5: I was just watching Hitchhike. Yeah, and he's like the
- 1:33:41Speaker 5: main villain. You know, he's obviously in House by the
- 1:33:44Speaker 5: Cemetery or not House by the Cemetery, I'm sorry, House
- 1:33:47Speaker 5: on the Edge of the Park.
- 1:33:50Speaker 6: And I spent on your Grave and.
- 1:33:56Speaker 5: Last and he was just in another movie that I
- 1:33:59Speaker 5: was just watching but I can't remember it anyways. He's
- 1:34:04Speaker 5: just one of those actors that happens to be everywhere
- 1:34:07Speaker 5: yet nowhere at the same time. That's how it feels
- 1:34:11Speaker 5: with no not a bad way, but it's like you
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: never think that, oh, David Hess, this is his movie,
- 1:34:16Speaker 5: but he happens to be in everything.
- 1:34:18Speaker 6: I think we all kind of like, you know, last,
- 1:34:20Speaker 6: House on the Left and House on the edge of
- 1:34:22Speaker 6: the park are pretty impactful roles for him.
- 1:34:26Speaker 5: Yeah, and he's always oh he always played and swamp thing. Yes,
- 1:34:32Speaker 5: but he always plays that sleazy, dirt bag type of character.
- 1:34:39Speaker 5: Maybe a little bit in this. Uh. But the creature
- 1:34:42Speaker 5: effect work in this I think is great. With the
- 1:34:47Speaker 5: swamp thing, it's funny. His face is a little wonky.
- 1:34:50Speaker 5: But I think my favorite character in this whole movie
- 1:34:52Speaker 5: has got to be the little kid that she meets
- 1:34:55Speaker 5: at the at the gas station. He is my favorite.
- 1:34:59Speaker 5: I love the way he talks.
- 1:35:00Speaker 6: Yeah, Jude right, JUDEA is the name I think.
- 1:35:03Speaker 5: Yeah, yep, uh Harry Manfordini, Yeah, did the score for this?
- 1:35:10Speaker 5: It makes sense like Friday the thirteen. Yep, uh yeah.
- 1:35:15Speaker 5: I mean there really isn't a lot to say about
- 1:35:17Speaker 5: this film, one that hasn't already been said. It's not
- 1:35:20Speaker 5: a very deep thought provoking film. It's a d C
- 1:35:24Speaker 5: comics movie, but it's still such a fun film.
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: It laid the ground worked out for everything that followed
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: after that.
- 1:35:33Speaker 5: If it was the Snyder Verse, would not happen without Swamp.
- 1:35:37Speaker 5: But uh, yeah, I just watched this. I think we
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: were talking about in our group chat. I just watched
- 1:35:42Speaker 5: this like two weeks ago, the m v D four K,
- 1:35:45Speaker 5: and uh, I love that movie.
- 1:35:48Speaker 6: Man, it makes me miss There's the you know, rebber
- 1:35:50Speaker 6: suit style of horror, you know what I mean. And uh,
- 1:35:55Speaker 6: the Adrian Barbo obviously, the bathing scene is incredible, you
- 1:36:00Speaker 6: know what I mean.
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: I don't think you know what I'm talking about, but
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: if you do, you know what I'm talking about.
- 1:36:05Speaker 6: But also, like just the stunts of this era, like
- 1:36:08Speaker 6: the the laboratory explosion is insane, you know, all the
- 1:36:14Speaker 6: characters getting thrown around. I just want to give a
- 1:36:16Speaker 6: special shout out to Nicholas worth Is Bruno. I think
- 1:36:19Speaker 6: Bruno is kind of like one of my favorite characters
- 1:36:21Speaker 6: is the whole time he's so worried about Ferret and
- 1:36:24Speaker 6: he's just always down to like he's like this supportive,
- 1:36:27Speaker 6: nice guy, but he's got to be a bad guy, you.
- 1:36:29Speaker 5: Know what I mean. Well, and then he becomes this
- 1:36:32Speaker 5: little imp. You know, but you did hit the nail
- 1:36:38Speaker 5: on the head with the stunts. I mean, how about
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: that whole scene when they're on the boats on the swamp,
- 1:36:43Speaker 5: that whole shootout scene. I mean, I feel like this
- 1:36:46Speaker 5: is almost Michael bayesque. I mean, come on, you know
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: what I mean.
- 1:36:51Speaker 6: I mean the the rail machine gun on the on
- 1:36:55Speaker 6: the boat is pretty wild, you know, like tossing grenades
- 1:36:59Speaker 6: in thettle water and it's out of control. Man, it
- 1:37:02Speaker 6: just feels I know that there was safety caution, there
- 1:37:05Speaker 6: was safety you know, used precautions being used here, but
- 1:37:09Speaker 6: it just feels so unsafe, you know what I mean?
- 1:37:11Speaker 5: Mm hmm. Yeah, this one was just a guilty pleasure
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: of mine. Fun watch and I really enjoy this pick
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: up from eighty eight Films.
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: So that artwork is awesome.
- 1:37:23Speaker 5: Yeah, the artwork is fantastic on this exactly.
- 1:37:26Speaker 6: Yea great pick man.
- 1:37:29Speaker 5: Unfortunately it did not come with a booklet, crisp but
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: still still not fine. It comes with art cards. I
- 1:37:37Speaker 5: have the MPD four K. It's probably the same exact
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: trends bonus features, That's what I'm looking here. Let me
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: see here, do you commentary?
- 1:37:51Speaker 6: There's six available left on the movie room. No, it
- 1:37:55Speaker 6: looks like, I mean, doesn't say that anything's new. You haven't. Yeah,
- 1:38:01Speaker 6: but r and on readA versions very nice, brand new
- 1:38:05Speaker 6: four K remaster, very nice, very cool. Yeah, that's a
- 1:38:11Speaker 6: great one man, awesome pick.
- 1:38:14Speaker 5: Steve.
- 1:38:16Speaker 6: I know you got something hide in there, man.
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: I actually I do kind of like the secrets that
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: were kept in one of my favorites, and that's none
- 1:38:26Speaker 2: other than The Last Seduction.
- 1:38:30Speaker 6: This is a very horny episode of After.
- 1:38:34Speaker 5: Well.
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: I mean, you know, I think we had everyone all
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: riled up after Swamp Thing. I got them nice and sweaty,
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: so I figured I might as well close, Yeah, close
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: it out on a high note. What do you guys
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: think of this movie?
- 1:38:49Speaker 5: I've never seen it, to be honest with you, same
- 1:38:52Speaker 5: you don't one who convinced me to get this and
- 1:38:54Speaker 5: I have never seen it.
- 1:38:55Speaker 6: Okay, I mean I know, so I can't resist the
- 1:38:57Speaker 6: Peterberg you know star movie. But Linda Fiorantino, yep, I know.
- 1:39:03Speaker 6: I mean she's in here smoking SIGs, you know, pre
- 1:39:08Speaker 6: Men in Black. I'm into it. I gotta, I gotta get.
- 1:39:10Speaker 2: It this well, I know I was. I was obviously
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: speaking very highly of the other releases, but this one
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: definitely knocked it out of the park for me. This
- 1:39:22Speaker 2: is from Imprint Films. This is another nineties zerotic thriller.
- 1:39:27Speaker 2: It's kind of like neo noir, I would say, with
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: the style of film that's directed by John doll See.
- 1:39:34Speaker 2: He directed Red Rock West, which is another film that
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: is part of the Cinematograph line, which I highly recommend,
- 1:39:45Speaker 2: and it's got an incredible cast a Linda Fiorentino. You've
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: got Peter Berg, Bill Pullman in it, and it's I
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: would say it deals with a lot of like, uh, passion, greed, revenge, desperate.
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: It's really really probably like another one of the highlights
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: that I would if I'm looking back on the nineties
- 1:40:08Speaker 2: as far as erotic thrillers, this is definitely up there
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: as well. I've been getting more than my fair share
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: of these either four K releases, whether they're box sets
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: or any of these movies. I absolutely adore getting the
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: boutique treatment. So pretty cool to be getting this. And
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: with this release, actually we get this thing is loaded,
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: so we have the four K transfer for the theatrical
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: cut as well as the Blu ray release for it.
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: We actually have the four K noir edition, which is
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: actually specifically created in black and white, restored from the
- 1:40:48Speaker 2: original thirty five millimeter negative by imprint. You've got a
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: plethora of behind the scenes features, commentaries, eighty page booklet
- 1:41:03Speaker 2: with it. I mean, I don't know how much more
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: you can really get in a release like this. And
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: I have to say, between this and I haven't had
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: a chance to really dive into Jade just yet, but
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: between both of these two movies, like, I'm good. I
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: don't think I ever need another edition of either of
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: these movies ever again, so I'm very happy and I
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: highly recommend.
- 1:41:25Speaker 5: Imprint if you're listening, which I know you are.
- 1:41:28Speaker 6: John Dall also directed another fantastic thriller from the nineties,
- 1:41:32Speaker 6: and I need this level of treatment for and that's
- 1:41:35Speaker 6: a joy Ride Leey Sobieski, Steve Jan Paul Walker. I
- 1:41:41Speaker 6: need a good release of that, thank you.
- 1:41:42Speaker 5: Hey, you know what their website is down says they're
- 1:41:44Speaker 5: working on something big. Maybe that's what it is.
- 1:41:46Speaker 6: That's what they're working on. Man, a four K Deloxe
- 1:41:48Speaker 6: edition of joy Ride.
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: I need nine and a half weeks. I put all
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: this aside, nine and a half weeks. Come on, I'm
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: not asking for much.
- 1:41:56Speaker 5: You know.
- 1:41:57Speaker 6: The disc with the new R edition is bringing me
- 1:41:59Speaker 6: back to the days of Logan, you.
- 1:42:01Speaker 5: Know what I mean?
- 1:42:01Speaker 6: When they have the new ardis oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yep,
- 1:42:05Speaker 6: that's very cool. I mean, you know, what's your thoughts
- 1:42:08Speaker 6: on I know that the director's cut here one hundred
- 1:42:11Speaker 6: and twenty eight minutes is only available on Blu Ray.
- 1:42:14Speaker 5: Have you have you watched the director's cut versus theatrical
- 1:42:16Speaker 5: cut of this?
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: I need to go back. I'll have more time to
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: dive into both of these. I intend to go back
- 1:42:22Speaker 2: and at least give the newer edition a watch, just
- 1:42:25Speaker 2: to you know, get a feel for that. But yeah,
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: both this and the Jade release I want to take
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: a little bit more time on, just because I know
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: that they're so loaded with extras and different editions of
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: the film.
- 1:42:37Speaker 6: So yeah, yeah, man, this is this is thunder of
- 1:42:41Speaker 6: our releases is sold out over at my side of choice,
- 1:42:44Speaker 6: which is the Room. This is one hundred percent sold out,
- 1:42:46Speaker 6: one hundred and nine to ninety nine for two four
- 1:42:48Speaker 6: K discs and two Blu rays, eighty page booklet. Pretty incredible, man,
- 1:42:54Speaker 6: I love like. I just hope we continue on this
- 1:42:56Speaker 6: route of putting out these nineties erotic thrillers.
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: Man.
- 1:43:00Speaker 6: I hope please for me, Yeah, I just hope they
- 1:43:03Speaker 6: keep on the man, you know what I mean?
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: I see what you did there.
- 1:43:07Speaker 5: I didn't mean to do that. I'll take look at
- 1:43:10Speaker 5: I see Jordan keeping his copy of Last.
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: Half Hours.
- 1:43:17Speaker 6: Anything that you guys want to throw in quick talk
- 1:43:21Speaker 6: about quick mention with anything you've been watching or picking up.
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: I have one on Oh Jordan, did you get one?
- 1:43:32Speaker 5: I don't have. I don't have it with me at
- 1:43:35Speaker 5: the moment. But I just did a review of West
- 1:43:39Speaker 5: World from seventy three. That one. Actually some of my
- 1:43:44Speaker 5: subscribers were pushing me to get it, so I picked
- 1:43:48Speaker 5: it up and watched it, and I do that movie
- 1:43:52Speaker 5: is great. What what? I was very hesitant with it,
- 1:43:57Speaker 5: just because I'm a fan of Westerns. I just don't
- 1:44:00Speaker 5: know how it was gonna feel with the whole sci
- 1:44:01Speaker 5: fi aspect of it. But I thought it was great.
- 1:44:05Speaker 5: I love James Brolin in this movie, one of my
- 1:44:10Speaker 5: favorite characters, and it the movie has a it's kind
- 1:44:14Speaker 5: of ahead of its time. If you guys know the story.
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: It's kind of these these androids that get a mind
- 1:44:21Speaker 5: of their own, go go off, go against programming and
- 1:44:26Speaker 5: start attacking the guests of uh dulls. The there's different,
- 1:44:31Speaker 5: you know, West World, Roman World and all that stuff.
- 1:44:34Speaker 5: And it's the scientist in the movie even say, we
- 1:44:38Speaker 5: don't know how this stuff works, and you know, it's
- 1:44:41Speaker 5: almost that it touches in kind of where we are
- 1:44:44Speaker 5: with AI and where that can go. And it's it's
- 1:44:47Speaker 5: very timeless in that way, and it's kind of creepy,
- 1:44:49Speaker 5: but it's also a fun movie. I have a lot
- 1:44:52Speaker 5: of fun. The scene of the two main characters characters
- 1:44:57Speaker 5: exploring Westworld, I think is it's the best part of
- 1:45:01Speaker 5: the movie of them just learning about it that you know,
- 1:45:05Speaker 5: one gets to be a sheriff for you know, while
- 1:45:08Speaker 5: they're there. They you know, they can go rob a bank,
- 1:45:11Speaker 5: they can choose to be you know, lawman or whatnot.
- 1:45:15Speaker 5: It's a great movie. And plus I forget the Russian
- 1:45:19Speaker 5: actor who plays the outlaw in this movie. He yes,
- 1:45:26Speaker 5: such a fantastic villain in this film. Do you guys
- 1:45:31Speaker 5: know Do you guys know who directed West World?
- 1:45:34Speaker 6: Off hand?
- 1:45:34Speaker 5: It Yeah, it's the author Yep, Michael Crichton who wrote
- 1:45:38Speaker 5: Jurassic Park, Lost World and the And yeah, it's very
- 1:45:44Speaker 5: much like a It's like a This is like a
- 1:45:46Speaker 5: more adult kind of precursor to Jurassic Park. I feel
- 1:45:49Speaker 5: like I feel like West World was kind of like
- 1:45:52Speaker 5: the film practice of what he would do with Jurassic Park,
- 1:45:55Speaker 5: where he would really well, was so cool about this.
- 1:45:58Speaker 5: So this was his directorial debut, was this movie West World,
- 1:46:02Speaker 5: And he shot it as he edited as he shot it,
- 1:46:07Speaker 5: so he didn't have to go and you know, that's
- 1:46:09Speaker 5: how he shot the film. He knew the shots, he wanted,
- 1:46:12Speaker 5: the different scenes, so that's how he shot the film
- 1:46:14Speaker 5: and completely so the production company couldn't do anything about it.
- 1:46:17Speaker 5: They're just like, okay, you know, there's nothing they can
- 1:46:20Speaker 5: do at that point. And it was a hit for sure.
- 1:46:23Speaker 5: I mean it's had a span off two TV series. Yeah,
- 1:46:28Speaker 5: so yeah, yeah, that's a great one man, Steve. Anything
- 1:46:32Speaker 5: last you want to throw.
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: In, I just wanted to close out with one that
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: is I wouldn't say this one is as erotic as
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: the other ones we've been talking about so far tonight,
- 1:46:44Speaker 2: but I absolutely adore this movie. And that is none
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: other than Twin Peaks fire Walk with Me, very nice
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: from the Criterion collection. So this is the four K
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: release that they came out with. And I don't know,
- 1:47:00Speaker 2: are you, either of you guys big in Twin Peaks.
- 1:47:02Speaker 5: Like that or not?
- 1:47:04Speaker 2: Really?
- 1:47:05Speaker 5: I'm trying to grind through the series right now.
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: Per grind grind through it.
- 1:47:13Speaker 5: You should just say, you know what I'm running. I'm
- 1:47:15Speaker 5: trying to add in to this, you know, the hornerrific
- 1:47:21Speaker 5: episode we've got going on. No, per the recommendation of
- 1:47:25Speaker 5: Steve here, I am trying to I'm going through the
- 1:47:27Speaker 5: show right now.
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: Okay. Twin Peaks for those of you guys and I
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: was familiar with it was a series, our TV series
- 1:47:37Speaker 2: that was on like early nineties, and this film actually
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: followed in ninety two. This serves as a prequel to
- 1:47:44Speaker 2: the series and kind of gives you some backstory as
- 1:47:48Speaker 2: to the days leading up to when Laura Palmer was
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: murdered played by none other than Cheryl Lee in this film.
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: In this movie and the TV series is direct by
- 1:48:00Speaker 2: David Lynch, this is I would say a lot darker
- 1:48:07Speaker 2: in tone compared to the TV show. I think with
- 1:48:11Speaker 2: having the creative liberties that David Lynch had with this
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: film to be able to go to those darker aspects
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: of what Laura Palmer was dealing with, it definitely goes there.
- 1:48:21Speaker 2: There are some very uncomfortable moments that we get in
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: the movie, but as a whole, I think that this
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: just further enhances the experience that I feel like I
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: have whether I'm watching the TV series or watching this
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: on top of it. But I love this TV show,
- 1:48:43Speaker 2: this movie as well as an extension, more than probably
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: any other show. I hold this in high regards up
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: there with the Sopranos. And if you guys, like again,
- 1:48:54Speaker 2: this is kind of like almost like fringe noir, Like
- 1:49:00Speaker 2: I don't know what would you consider David Lynch. It's
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: just almost like dream.
- 1:49:04Speaker 6: Like in a lot of ways in a world of
- 1:49:06Speaker 6: its own.
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: Man, it really is. But I was really impressed with
- 1:49:14Speaker 2: how nice the four K looked for this film, and
- 1:49:18Speaker 2: this isn't I would say this is kind of why
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: I wanted to kind of save this towards the end,
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: because it's not as lowed as some of the other
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: releases that we talked about, but I do think that
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: it deserves a place in your collection. There's some additional
- 1:49:32Speaker 2: interviews in with this release as well as the Missing Pieces,
- 1:49:37Speaker 2: which is ninety minutes of deleted and alternate takes from
- 1:49:40Speaker 2: the film assembled by David Lynch, and then there's some
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: older interview on here as well.
- 1:49:47Speaker 5: So.
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: Listen next Criterion sale. I would definitely suggest picking this
- 1:49:54Speaker 2: up or any of David Lynch's other films are incredible.
- 1:49:58Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, great, finish her there, man, I don't have
- 1:50:02Speaker 5: anything that exciting.
- 1:50:05Speaker 6: Really. The only other, like I guess the genre film
- 1:50:07Speaker 6: I watched this month, Well, I don't.
- 1:50:11Speaker 5: I wouldn't say this month because I've watched a lot,
- 1:50:13Speaker 5: but I've talked about a lot. I did revisit on
- 1:50:17Speaker 5: Blu Ray, which which which we own. I revisited Alexandra Aja's.
- 1:50:21Speaker 6: Mirrors with Keefer Sutherland.
- 1:50:24Speaker 5: Do you guys remember this movie from two thousand and eight.
- 1:50:28Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:50:30Speaker 2: I know, I know of it. I don't think I've
- 1:50:32Speaker 2: actually seen it though.
- 1:50:34Speaker 5: Yeah. This is Alexandra Aja after the Hills of Eyes.
- 1:50:39Speaker 6: Keefer Sutherland plays a police officer who has been taking
- 1:50:44Speaker 6: off the job. Picks up a job as a security
- 1:50:46Speaker 6: officer at a burn down department store and kind of
- 1:50:51Speaker 6: gets sucked into this paranormal mystery surrounding these mirrors which
- 1:50:57Speaker 6: are leading people to a road where essentially they see
- 1:51:03Speaker 6: alternate versions of themselves in the mirrors. And this is
- 1:51:07Speaker 6: a remake of a Japanese film. It's sort of like
- 1:51:12Speaker 6: it's got some really crazy gore effects. Amy Smart makes
- 1:51:16Speaker 6: an appearance in this, and she has a really crazy
- 1:51:20Speaker 6: death in it where her jaw she kind of like
- 1:51:22Speaker 6: rips her own jawl off. It's really wild, it's really shocking.
- 1:51:26Speaker 6: Other than that, it's still sort of really suffers from
- 1:51:29Speaker 6: the two thousands need to over explain everything, and it's
- 1:51:31Speaker 6: just sort of really long and kind of drawn out,
- 1:51:34Speaker 6: and you know, it does kind of feel like a
- 1:51:36Speaker 6: little bit of a slam one of breaks compared to
- 1:51:39Speaker 6: what he did with the Hills of Eyes, just you know,
- 1:51:41Speaker 6: two years earlier before this.
- 1:51:45Speaker 5: But I watched that, and you know, it's not one
- 1:51:47Speaker 5: I'm upset to.
- 1:51:47Speaker 6: Own, but it's one that I'll never really upgrade from
- 1:51:50Speaker 6: the four dollars Blu ray that I have. You know,
- 1:51:54Speaker 6: I've also been doing a little bit of reading thanks
- 1:51:55Speaker 6: to Jordan. Jordan here bought a bundle of seven films,
- 1:52:01Speaker 6: one of them being the Feeding Frenzy box set, and
- 1:52:03Speaker 6: along with that bundle, he sent me over a book
- 1:52:08Speaker 6: by Christian Bowe called Shark into the Jaws of an
- 1:52:12Speaker 6: Unstoppable Genre And this was available exclusively through Severn and
- 1:52:19Speaker 6: in Psychopocalypse Publications our friends over there, and this was
- 1:52:24Speaker 6: only available during this Severn bundle sale and has not
- 1:52:28Speaker 6: been available outside of it. This is translated the first
- 1:52:32Speaker 6: time it was ever in English, to complete book, and
- 1:52:35Speaker 6: I'm about to a quarter the way through it and
- 1:52:37Speaker 6: having an absolutely incredible time. Truly the definition of a
- 1:52:42Speaker 6: book that if you're not into shark films, which I am.
- 1:52:44Speaker 6: I have a Jaws tattoo, but you know I'm not
- 1:52:47Speaker 6: as into it as as this book goes into. It's
- 1:52:51Speaker 6: making me become a shark film fan, you know. Truly
- 1:52:55Speaker 6: an incredible piece of writing that I hope gets a
- 1:52:58Speaker 6: little bit more exposure here in the US. Maybe another
- 1:53:00Speaker 6: release in Psychopocalypse if we're listening, which I know for
- 1:53:03Speaker 6: a fact you are, Let's let's get this reprinted and
- 1:53:09Speaker 6: put back out because I think more people need to
- 1:53:11Speaker 6: get their hands on this.
- 1:53:13Speaker 5: I believe you can still get it at Seven's website.
- 1:53:17Speaker 6: Actually, is it still on?
- 1:53:19Speaker 5: You have it for thirty five bucks? Okay? All right,
- 1:53:22Speaker 5: Shark into the Jaws of an Unstoppable genre. Okay, yep.
- 1:53:26Speaker 6: So En Psychopocalypse shared my post today and said that
- 1:53:29Speaker 6: it's sold out last summer, so.
- 1:53:32Speaker 5: I'm hoping, okay, you know, I'm hoping you'll if.
- 1:53:34Speaker 6: They can get it through seven website, then please seven
- 1:53:36Speaker 6: Films dot Com pick up shark. It's a fantastic read,
- 1:53:41Speaker 6: not too long, lots of cool pictures if that's what
- 1:53:43Speaker 6: you need in your books.
- 1:53:45Speaker 5: It's all there, so man, it's like there's a whole
- 1:53:49Speaker 5: section on Shark Nado.
- 1:53:51Speaker 6: Dude, there's a whole section on a lot of stuff
- 1:53:53Speaker 6: in it, including one of my wife's favorite ghost shark
- 1:53:56Speaker 6: m And what's most what's most interesting about it is
- 1:54:00Speaker 6: the book actually starts with a couple of pages about
- 1:54:05Speaker 6: just sharks, like almost like national geographic level research of sharks,
- 1:54:09Speaker 6: and then it goes into the sort of sharks in
- 1:54:12Speaker 6: myth and in pre film and then the very first
- 1:54:17Speaker 6: kind of shark film that shows up in nineteen thirty one.
- 1:54:19Speaker 6: And it's a it's an incredible read, man, It's it's
- 1:54:22Speaker 6: so much fun, and there's so much great insight and
- 1:54:25Speaker 6: truly like you can feel the passion from the author
- 1:54:28Speaker 6: on the topic and every single sentence, every single paragraph,
- 1:54:31Speaker 6: it's so well written. Jordan, I can't thank you enough
- 1:54:34Speaker 6: for sending me that way, man.
- 1:54:35Speaker 5: Of course, of course, I'm glad. I'm glad you enjoyed it,
- 1:54:39Speaker 5: and I hope you continue to enjoy it.
- 1:54:41Speaker 6: Of course, dude, we'll do of course another episode of
- 1:54:46Speaker 6: After Hours Down guys, thanks for making this man. This
- 1:54:50Speaker 6: this was like truly everything we talked about was so
- 1:54:52Speaker 6: much fun. This was a great, great lineup of stuff
- 1:54:55Speaker 6: to be chatting about. So Jordan has always left will know.
- 1:55:00Speaker 6: Let people know where they can find you.
- 1:55:02Speaker 5: Man.
- 1:55:02Speaker 6: What's going on?
- 1:55:04Speaker 5: Yeah, you can find me over on YouTube, the movie
- 1:55:07Speaker 5: Den on Instagram, the movie DN pretty much anywhere. It's
- 1:55:12Speaker 5: just the movie Dan. Not a whole lot going on
- 1:55:16Speaker 5: right now. We just did our so I host a
- 1:55:20Speaker 5: fear by Year episode with these guys where we talk
- 1:55:23Speaker 5: about every episode six horror films within a certain year.
- 1:55:27Speaker 5: We did nineteen eighty three. Unfortunately Chris wasn't not able
- 1:55:31Speaker 5: to make this last one, so it was me and Stephen.
- 1:55:33Speaker 5: We had our buddy PiZZ ol on. So that just
- 1:55:38Speaker 5: got finished on about a couple of days ago. That
- 1:55:42Speaker 5: was a lot of fun. But right now, I just
- 1:55:46Speaker 5: did my review of Westworld, like we talked about earlier.
- 1:55:49Speaker 5: Coming up, I need to want to talk more about
- 1:55:52Speaker 5: the Ugly Stepsister. I just have to get through some
- 1:55:55Speaker 5: of the special features and stuff with that. But I mean, really,
- 1:55:59Speaker 5: other than that, that's it's really about it. Nothing too
- 1:56:02Speaker 5: crazy going on right now just talking about movies in
- 1:56:07Speaker 5: film and our favorite genre, horror. Hell yeah, man, Hell yeah, Steve.
- 1:56:12Speaker 5: Let people know where they can find you, what you
- 1:56:15Speaker 5: got going on.
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: You guys can find me at after Ours Hours abbreviated video.
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: I'm on social media all over the place, just watching
- 1:56:24Speaker 2: some of my favorite movies. And I'm really excited for
- 1:56:29Speaker 2: Beyond the Blood. We're gonna be recording Event Horizon or
- 1:56:32Speaker 2: special for that film. Super pumped to talk about that.
- 1:56:36Speaker 2: And then I actually have a live stream see on
- 1:56:39Speaker 2: the fourth at eight pm Eastern time with his We're
- 1:56:44Speaker 2: doing the movies that made us. I'm pretty pumped to
- 1:56:46Speaker 2: do that. It's going to be Jake from Steelbook Obsessed
- 1:56:50Speaker 2: in the night Watch Zone on there as well, so
- 1:56:52Speaker 2: it should be a good time.
- 1:56:54Speaker 6: Awesome. Yeah, And as always, you guys can find me
- 1:56:56Speaker 6: at Bearded Film Guy on Instagram. Very excited for Event Horizon.
- 1:57:01Speaker 5: We're gonna be recording that just a couple of days here,
- 1:57:03Speaker 5: so in less than a week from when you're listening
- 1:57:05Speaker 5: to this, our official episode will be out.
- 1:57:08Speaker 6: Very excited for that. I would encourage everyone to go
- 1:57:11Speaker 6: back and listen to kind of some of the previous
- 1:57:13Speaker 6: stuff that we've been putting out here. I feel like
- 1:57:16Speaker 6: twenty six has been a really fun year for beyond
- 1:57:19Speaker 6: the blood and kind of some stuff that we've been
- 1:57:21Speaker 6: doing kind of outside of our normal run. The last
- 1:57:26Speaker 6: episode we put up was our first episode of a
- 1:57:28Speaker 6: kind of spin off series called staff Picks, where we
- 1:57:31Speaker 6: talk about just kind of some of our favorite genre films,
- 1:57:35Speaker 6: but not as in depth as a regular commentary one.
- 1:57:37Speaker 6: You know, we're gonna be picking movies that maybe don't
- 1:57:39Speaker 6: have commentary tracks but are still a lot of fun
- 1:57:42Speaker 6: to talk about. We broke down nineteen ninety one's Popcorn
- 1:57:47Speaker 6: with my wife, so make sure to go back and
- 1:57:49Speaker 6: listen to that absolutely incredible episode. I'm very proud of
- 1:57:52Speaker 6: that one, very happy that she came on and made
- 1:57:55Speaker 6: me look like an idiot. She did incredible, So every
- 1:58:00Speaker 6: compliment about our show for the last three weeks has
- 1:58:02Speaker 6: been about my wife on that episode, So go back
- 1:58:05Speaker 6: and listen to that. And then last month we put
- 1:58:09Speaker 6: out an episode, a very special episode with Jake from
- 1:58:12Speaker 6: Steel Book Obsessed and Dave Lee from Umbrella Entertainment where
- 1:58:16Speaker 6: we broke down their upcoming umbrellas and our monsters and
- 1:58:19Speaker 6: curiosity set from Umbrella entertainment. We talked about kind of
- 1:58:24Speaker 6: some of the controversies around the bonus features on that episode,
- 1:58:29Speaker 6: and a bunch of a bunch of a whole bunch
- 1:58:32Speaker 6: of positives that came out of that change. So if
- 1:58:34Speaker 6: you're really interested into the insight of physical media and
- 1:58:37Speaker 6: kind of behind the scenes stuff, go give that a listen. Also,
- 1:58:43Speaker 6: just going to replug our first episode of the year
- 1:58:46Speaker 6: which we did, which was Torso from nineteen seventy three
- 1:58:51Speaker 6: with Ryan from Disconnected. We dove into the commentary track
- 1:58:56Speaker 6: and film as a whole, So that is available right
- 1:58:59Speaker 6: now wherever wherever you're listening to this podcast. So as always,
- 1:59:04Speaker 6: appreciate everyone who listens to this. Thank you to you
- 1:59:07Speaker 6: guys for coming on to this as always, and we'll
- 1:59:10Speaker 6: see you again next time.
- 1:59:12Speaker 2: Let's catch you guys the next one.
- 1:59:14Speaker 5: See ya.
