- 2:09is going to join us. He has an announcement to make about what his
- 2:13future is going on. I don't even know what it is. Rich contacting
- 2:16me last week and said like to come on the show to make an announcement.
- 2:20I have no idea what it is. I'll find out when you find
- 2:23out. Good friend Rusty Webb is with us right now. Thunder the Mountains
- 2:25is coming up this weekend. Good morning, sir, how are you?
- 2:29Good morning, Dave. Good to be here looking looking well of this morning,
- 2:32coming in here like Jim Cornette, you know, swinging the tennis racket
- 2:36around. You're ready to go for this weekend. Man, I am in
- 2:38thanks to Palmer. They're one of our sponsors. Well, you got plenty
- 2:42of sponsors. You got a lot of sponsors. Yeah, I do have
- 2:43a lot of spots. We'll get to those a little bit later on.
- 2:45I'll tell us tell us about this thunder in the mount Just give us the
- 2:47overall of you. What is this You're everywhere by the way, Yeah,
- 2:51so you know you're everywhere talking about this. Yeah, it's a it's a
- 2:54collegiate Division one collegiate women's tennis tournament co hosted by marsh in WVU. Yes,
- 3:01they do get along. And this year's guest teams are Cleveland State University
- 3:08and Radford University. And Radford University is making a This will be their second
- 3:15appearance. Radford University has two West Virginia players and Marshall has two West Virginia
- 3:23players, and two of those players won the state doubles championship a few years
- 3:29ago. So it's a kind of a family reunion for these these young ladies.
- 3:36Now, Radford is known as a tennis school. They have a pretty
- 3:38good program. Now they sure do they sure do? Yes, they do,
- 3:42Yes, they do. It's going to be in Kanasa City at the
- 3:45Show and Bomb Tennis Courts. It's free. I never say that because I
- 3:50just assume people know that, but some people don't know that. It's free
- 3:57if you want to catch the highlights. Marshall is playing WVU in doubles on
- 4:03Friday morning at ten o'clock and Marshall and WV are playing singles around noon.
- 4:12On Saturday. Okay, Uh, Saturday is a we're coding as we did
- 4:19last year and the first year, by the way, in two nineteen.
- 4:25A clinic, a kids clinic. And if you if you're in an elementary
- 4:30student or middle school student and you're a beginner, and you attend our clinic,
- 4:38you'll be taught by Marshall and WVU players. You'll receive a free junior
- 4:45tennis racket complements of Graceland Tennis, which is a Charleston based tennis company.
- 4:53Hold that up, I'm taking a picture. I want you to see the
- 4:57right. Go ahead. So doctor Joseph sink Layer uh, who is an
- 5:02eye surgeon here in town, he has this company and I discovered it and
- 5:06he's he's he's giving us forty rackets at cost. And then CATA Charleston Area
- 5:15Tennis Association is underwriting the cost of those rackets. Uh. They get money
- 5:20from the US Open that they need to spend on community development projects. Also,
- 5:27if you're if you attend, the kids get a free T shirt,
- 5:31free lunch, and free autograph tennis ball. So now is that any day
- 5:38or is that a certain days? It's just Saturday, Saturday at am to
- 5:42eleven am okay, okay, talk about how this whole thing came about?
- 5:46Well, Uh, in two nineteen, I was meandering my way down to
- 5:50the courts one Friday or Saturday Friday, I think it was, to play
- 5:56and I noticed all these uh them and tennis players. And they were not
- 6:01University of Charleston, which I'm accustomed to sing right, because they practiced there,
- 6:05they play their matches there. It was Marshall, WVU, Toledo,
- 6:11James Madison and two others I can't remember. And I'm like, nobody was
- 6:15there, and I'm like, I'm affiliated with both universities, and like,
- 6:20how did I miss this? Like I know everything that's going on, you
- 6:24know, at WV and Marshall. So I approached both of the coaches and
- 6:29said, hey, this is kind of a big deal. Let you know,
- 6:32let's make it an event, you know, let's make it bigger than
- 6:34this. And they both agreed, and so and uh and the and I
- 6:40got the mayor involved. The can't think Amy Mayor Amy Goodwin and the City
- 6:46of Charleston enough for underwriting the major expenses in this in this event without which
- 6:51we couldn't do it. Quite frankly, she was excited about it. I
- 6:56called it, I call it the Mayor's Cup. She gives the trophy away,
- 7:02and twenty twenty we had to cancel it. We planned to had to
- 7:05cancel. Twenty twenty one, we had six teams, including West Virginia State.
- 7:10They were there the only time we've ever had a Division two team there.
- 7:14States Number one took WVU to the wire to overtime. That was pretty
- 7:19cool. And then last year we had four teams, and this year four
- 7:25teams are more manageable because you just don't you don't have to start at the
- 7:28crack of dawn and end at night at midnight. So we've we've narrowed it
- 7:32down to four teams each year. Rusty webbers with us. We're talking about
- 7:35this weekends thunder in the Mountains. Rusty talk about the work it takes to
- 7:39pull this off. Well, I'll say this, after two years with the
- 7:45City of Charleston's is just absolutely wonderful. Miranda over there, she helps,
- 7:50she coordinates this, she takes care of all my permitting, so it's almost
- 7:57it's it's almost automatic. But then again, I still just do a ton
- 8:01of things like interviews like this, press releases, you know, I have
- 8:07meetings with the rec center people who are also awesome. Uh, you know,
- 8:13in the weeks leading up to it, I have T shirts printed,
- 8:16I have polish shirts printed. I try to advertise as best I can and
- 8:22before I forget any tennis team, any high school or middle tennis team that
- 8:30attends as a team will receive free tournament t shirts. All of Cabell County
- 8:35middle schools are coming, by the way, which I'm extremely pressed with.
- 8:41So yeah, it takes a lot, and I'm but it's a labor of
- 8:46love. I mean, I love tennis. I'm a huge supporter of women's
- 8:50athletics. I usually would wear my Riley Gaine shirt because I'm a big supporter
- 8:56Riley Gaines and her efforts. I just feel like, you know, the
- 9:01women and girls don't get the credit that they deserve because they're just their their
- 9:05athletes, and I just I just want to support them anyway I can.
- 9:09But yeah, so it takes a little bit of work. And talk about
- 9:15what it means to the Canal Valley. I mean, because again I spent
- 9:18a lot of time talking about events like this where you're bringing people in.
- 9:22You know, you said there's gonna be high school. Elamm, We'll talk
- 9:24about that a little bit, but talk about what it means to the Canal
- 9:26Valley to have this here. Well, you know everyone, everyone wants diversity
- 9:31in their entertainment opportunities. And I can't think of anything better than to introduce
- 9:39young girls to the sport of tennis and having this in your backyard. You're
- 9:45talking about two major universities and last year VCU actually wanted Virginia Commonwealth and these
- 9:52are these are potentially future pro players and the tennis is just really really good.
- 9:58And I'm a tennis fan. I mean, I'll I'll say it.
- 10:01I'm I'm a tennis fan. I'm a women's tennis fan. I watch more
- 10:03WTA than I do ATP But yeah, it just it's opportunities that you know,
- 10:11we have the cultural center, we have the all the theaters and the
- 10:15music, and this is just another component of that and and it and it
- 10:18it's a little bit of a boost to the economy. I mean, nothing,
- 10:22nothing, nothing great, but you know, you know Marshall's state.
- 10:26I want everybody to Marshall will stay up. They only have an hour drive,
- 10:30but they'll stay up because we have events plan for them. Uh,
- 10:33you know, in between the matches, we have dinners and all kinds of
- 10:37things, not the least of which is are meet and greet on Thursday night
- 10:43that you can attend if you want to, for fifty dollars catered by Pepperoni
- 10:46Grill food. Is awesome. It is. It is awesome, very good
- 10:50and uh you know, fifty dollars, you meet and greet silent auctions,
- 10:54you get a free T shirt. The sponsors will be there to get their
- 10:58swag bags. I give swag bags to all the volunteers and players and coaches
- 11:05and sponsors. I mean, I try to do it's it's all patterned after
- 11:09the Western Southern Cincinnati. Okay, so it's Western Stone as a professional tournament
- 11:15with it's a big deal, but it's my kind of my little Western Southern.
- 11:18I'll do it as best I can. And you mentioned Earli about the
- 11:22high school and middle school teams, Yes, that are coming. That's got
- 11:24to be pretty cool for them too to look and see. Okay, if
- 11:28I if I keep doing what I'm doing, I can get a scholarship,
- 11:31I can go play collegiately, maybe go pro. Talking about the high school
- 11:35teams in middle school, I was just so happy. Someone reached out to
- 11:39me from Cable County and said, we're bringing all the middle school teams and
- 11:43I was like, wow, that's really cool because I haven't been able to
- 11:46do that heretofore, but I thought, hey, offer a free T shirt.
- 11:48Kids will come for t shirt. Nitro's coming, Herbert Hoover's coming,
- 11:54I know for a fact. But yeah, I mean what I mean,
- 12:00you get even I get, I get. I was talking to I was
- 12:03playing with a buddy yesterday. He says, you want to learn tennis,
- 12:07watch tennis, watch tennis, watch the pros, watch the college players.
- 12:13Just emulate what they do. You don't need lessons, just watch them.
- 12:16And uh, that's one of the reasons why this is my last year doing
- 12:22it, because I want to watch the tournament. So I'm I'm I'm training.
- 12:26What's gonna happen. Well, I'm going to train a buddy of mine
- 12:28to take over. But this is your last year, not the last year
- 12:33the event. The last year of the Rusty Webb's gotta be char and we
- 12:37may transition it into something else. But now I'll leave that. I'll leave
- 12:41that for another day. Talk about the sponsors again. These things aren't possible
- 12:43without sponsors. Well, I tell you Parmar, Kata Mullen Heating and Plumbing,
- 12:52the City of Charleston, Pepperoni Grill, Subway, Chick fil A,
- 12:58Jimmy John's. They're all providing lunches each of the each of the respective days.
- 13:03Oh gosh, I hope I don't leave anyone out. You always leave
- 13:09somebody out. I had last year's T shirt with me. But well,
- 13:16then what is this you brought me here? You brought me a Well,
- 13:18that's for our that's for that's for that's business after we get off the air.
- 13:24Okay, all right. I never know when with Russia shows up with
- 13:28gifts and he says, okay, that's for one to get off the air.
- 13:28It's not like it's a bottle of bourbon or anything. But all right,
- 13:33we'll talk about that. I guess when we get off the air,
- 13:35where can people learn more? Give us all of the tails we have it?
- 13:37Well, we have a group page. We have a Facebook page.
- 13:43Thunder in the Mountains A great job with that. By the way, well,
- 13:46I just copy and paste. I'm not very well. Whatever it takes,
- 13:50man, it good see info out. Yeah, Thunder in the Mountains
- 13:52it's all on there. If you want to go to the reception, you
- 13:54got to get a hold of me somehow quickly because I need a headcount to
- 13:58give to Pepperoni Grill today tomorrow. Okay, all right, so thank and
- 14:03thanks for having me on. Absolutely, absolutely, it's a great event.
- 14:05I mean again, and I love the fact that it says, even in
- 14:09the under the insignia Rusty, it says hosted by Marshall University and West Virginia
- 14:13University, and again proving that they can work together. All right, So
- 14:18I gotta get this in. Has nothing to do with tennis and you and
- 14:20I were talking about this with Jeff just before we went on the show.
- 14:24I love the fact that West Virginia University and Marshall University, and I'll admit
- 14:30I'm not the biggest soccer guy in the world one and two respectively in the
- 14:35national rankings. My wife and I were actually watching one of the TV news
- 14:39channels last night and when they put that graphic up there. I'd heard it
- 14:41about it all day on our stations, but I saw it up there,
- 14:43I said, look at I paused it. I said, look, how
- 14:46kind of cool that is. We got West Virginia and Marshall nationwide one and
- 14:50two. That's good stuff. It is. It is great stuff. It
- 14:54is great stuff. The game is going to be played in Morgan Down this
- 15:00year and Marshall's taking some busses up and that's going to be their gold rush,
- 15:05which means they're they're going to take it very seriously. And I can't
- 15:11imagine the atmosphere because it's always great in Huntington, and we just need to
- 15:16replicate that with all the other sports. We're only down to three sports right
- 15:20now where we play each other, but we need to just go back to
- 15:22where we played all all sports. I agree, I agree, you know,
- 15:26especially basketball, I mean especially especially basketball. I completely get it,
- 15:31Rusty. I appreciate it, appreciate you. Kim By. Thunder the Mountains
- 15:35is happening. Everything we'll kick off tomorrow and it runs through UH Sunday,
- 15:39and I appreciate you being here man. Thanks a lot, Thanks Rusty.

- 18:30State Senator rich Lindsay, good morning, sir, How are you? Good
- 18:34morning Dave? How are you doing man? Well, I'm doing better because
- 18:37you showed up with gifts this morning. Everybody's bringing me gifts. You see
- 18:40what Rusty Webb brought. He brought me a nice little West Virginia flag here.
- 18:44I just kind of hard to describe that on the radio. But you
- 18:47can't eat that. No, But you brought donuts, right, Donut Connection.
- 18:49Yes, you got to support our good donut people there on Spring Street.
- 18:53Yeah, absolutely, well, we appreciate that very much. Those are
- 18:56healthy donuts, right, because Millie Snyder from the Shape Shop is going to
- 18:59be on the show tomorrow, So those are healthy donuts, right. Sure,
- 19:03sure, Pumpkin, there's pumpkin, and it's good for you, right,
- 19:06Coop, it's pumpkin, not good for you. Yeah, Apple's good
- 19:07for you too, those apple crisp doughnuts. Drink a Dyet Coke with it.
- 19:11That's all you got it? Check all right. You wanted to come
- 19:14in this morning, sir, to make an announcement. Yeah, Dave,
- 19:18you know you're a good friend of mine and I wanted to be here and
- 19:22make this announcement on your show. I am running for the new seat here
- 19:26in the Circuit Court of Kanak County, running for judge for that seat.
- 19:30It's the eighth division seat. Here in Kanak County, and I want to
- 19:33make it official by announcing it on your show. Okay, so what level
- 19:37of this decision? Well, twofold, twofold? Really. The first reason
- 19:42is and I miss, I truly miss public service. I get a lot
- 19:48of joy out of what I do for a profession, but nothing gives me
- 19:52more joy or gave me more joy than making a difference in people's lives when
- 19:56I was in the state Senate, whether it was passing legislation, end in
- 20:00legislation, helping constituents directly or indirectly. I think when your hold public office,
- 20:04you have that opportunity. There's probably no other profession, maybe other than
- 20:10preacher, where you can make a difference in people's lives. And I missed
- 20:12doing so, and I thought here was an opportunity where I could give back
- 20:15to the people of Kanak County who have made me who I am, who
- 20:18have contributed to my successes, and I want to serve. So that's the
- 20:23first reason, Okay. The second reason is this seat was created in part
- 20:29because of the significant abuse and neglect docket in Kanau County. I know you've
- 20:33talked on your show many times about the opioid crisis, and how there are
- 20:38after effects or consequences of the opioid crisis that we've been living with for the
- 20:42last several years, and one of them is just this explosion of our abuse
- 20:48and neglect docket, and then of course some of the failures in the foster
- 20:52care system, both of which while I was in the State Senate, I
- 20:56became knowledgeable about and speaking to families people who have been through the process.
- 21:00As an attorney, I've represented families in that process, and I can think
- 21:04of no better thing to do than to try to, you know, reunify
- 21:08families where it's possible, where it's not, to find the next best alternative.
- 21:14You know, raising a child for him or her to reach their potential
- 21:19just takes a few ingredients, you right, time, stability, love,
- 21:23security, And I think that in our abuse neglect system, I'm sure.
- 21:29I'm certain that's the goal of all the judges, and I want to be
- 21:30part of the solution in that regard. I can't imagine get we're talking with
- 21:34former State Senator rich Lindsay, Uh, I can't imagine what people in the
- 21:40judicial brands, or foster care workers or whomever is involved in this process see
- 21:45and hear on a daily basis in the courtrooms, family court systems or whatever.
- 21:51Because directly, you know, the opioid crisis that we have in this
- 21:56part of the world and really all over the country, but especially in appalachic
- 21:59I can't imagine what the seeing here rich on a daily basis. Sure,
- 22:02no, absolutely, and obviously judges playing a cential role in and making those
- 22:06decisions and being part of the solution. And that's something I want to do,
- 22:10you know. I think that again that that's where that's where the greatest
- 22:14need is right now, unfortunately in a lot of ways in our state,
- 22:17and I want to be part of that. Did you give any thought whatsoever
- 22:21to or maybe I mean you're a young guy, if you thought about that
- 22:25some point possibly returning back under the dome in West Virginia as a as a
- 22:29legislator at some point or had been there done that. Well, you know,
- 22:33I enjoyed the time I was there. I hope the folks that I
- 22:36represented thought I served them well. I think that you know that the environment's
- 22:41a little bit different than what it was when I when I was first selected,
- 22:45and uh, you know, you go where you can make a difference,
- 22:48and I think I can make a difference in this arena. What did
- 22:51you learn rich during your time in the States Senate that you think will serve
- 22:56you if the voters choose you in this new role. Well, you know,
- 23:00I learned again the processor. You know, what goes into our abuse
- 23:03and neglect cases, the parties that play, the guardians that lie on,
- 23:08the appointed attorneys, the the the the in family treatment courts, the specialties
- 23:15that come in. You know, I've supported the expansion of family treatment courts
- 23:18and the expansion of drug courts because I do think it. Judge plays an
- 23:22important role, and it's not just what I've learned in the legislature. An
- 23:26addition to that, I think I bring to this particular position as judge a
- 23:32lot of experience. You know, most people may think that you know that,
- 23:37Uh well, if you've got a law degree, then then you know
- 23:41everything that happens in a courtroom. And just like any other any other job
- 23:44or vocation, there are various types of lawyers. And I pride myself on
- 23:48being an attorney who's who's practiced for fifteen years. I have, you know,
- 23:52done everything you can do in a trial, and you know, two
- 23:56things that judges want, or right rather, attorneys want, whether they're planets
- 24:00attorneys or defense attorneys. They want a fair judge, someone who will put
- 24:03their different their personal beliefs aside and apply the law to the facts. And
- 24:08then also they want someone with trial court experience. And the reason why is
- 24:12because in the twenty cases that I've been co counsel or lead counseling and Canall
- 24:17County and Cavil County, mercer Riley Upshur County, I've become quite familiar with
- 24:22our rules of civil procedure or an evidence and discovery in our trial court rules,
- 24:26so familiar that I think I can bring that type of experience to the
- 24:32lid against no matter what the action is before or before the court, and
- 24:36make decisions. I think sometimes judges is getting a little trouble when they're not
- 24:38as familiar with those rules. They may not want to know what to do.
- 24:42I'm happy and willing to make quick decisions and move cases along and to
- 24:48make a difference. Again in those abuse and neglect proceedings. We talked about
- 24:51your time in the legislature and about your career as an attorney. Give us
- 24:55the overall bio though for people that may not know what't that long ago?
- 24:59You serve? Just give us a bio and Rich lindsay in the in the
- 25:02state Senate in general, okay, who are you? Who are you?
- 25:04Did you get just assume like no, no, ain't in general? No
- 25:07no, no, you know, because maybe are gonna ask him. It's
- 25:11West Virginia. When you're out on the campaign trio, people are gonna ask
- 25:14who's your mom and dad? Who's your right? That's a good question.
- 25:17Get in West Virginia, sir, Yes, sir. So you know I'm
- 25:19born in Charleston, West Virginia. I've lived most of my life here.
- 25:23I live on the East End with my wife, who is a physicians assistant
- 25:26at Captain Creek Health Systems. We have two boys, and eleven year old
- 25:30and nine year old. I have, you know. I went to college
- 25:37at Wingate University in North Carolina. I went to law school at Appalachian School
- 25:41of Law and Grundy, Virginia. You know I have. Before going to
- 25:48law school and before becoming a professional, I was one of those guys who
- 25:52worked in bars and restaurants as waiters and bartender. My first job going coming
- 25:57out of or during in high school, was a bag boy at the now
- 26:03Biggy Piggy Wiggly used to be food Land. But you know, I have
- 26:08tried to hold some type of job throughout my life and and think that's important
- 26:15to bring not just that experience, but to have that type of work ethic
- 26:18that has led me to be what I would think to be successful in my
- 26:21law practice. I've been a lawyer for fifteen years. I represent families,
- 26:26individuals, children, parents and grandparents who've been catastrophically injured through no fault of
- 26:32their own. And I'm proud of that work. And of course I've you
- 26:37know, worked and been on the boards of the Covenant House and the Easton
- 26:42Family Resource Center, and of course served in the state legislature for four years.
- 26:45So that kind of gives you an idea. And of course, as
- 26:48you know, an avid fan of the Smoke House. Yes, if you
- 26:52do nothing else in your in your career. I had reached on a couple
- 26:57of years ago and he's we're talking about food, and he asked me about
- 27:03the Smokehouse and try and I told him I had never eaten there. And
- 27:06the first, my first ever trip to the Smokehouse was with Rich Lindsay,
- 27:11and you invited me to lunch, and we said, even though you know
- 27:14we have some differences politically, we sat down, we we broke bread,
- 27:18and we we had a delicious meal there with the folks over the smokehouse and
- 27:22came friends after that. So yeah, I'm forever in your debt for that.
- 27:25No, only our only real disagreement. And this is probably gonna hurt
- 27:29me politically saying this, But you're a Cincinnati Reds fan, and so between
- 27:32the Reds and the Cowboys successes, you're almost insufferable at this point. Well,
- 27:36yes I am, I am cow but this is the Cowboys. You're
- 27:38in the super Bowl. By the way, I saw you posted down on
- 27:41social media. That was pretty you know, that was brave of you.
- 27:45Well, as long as the forty nine ers aren't involved, then the Cowboys
- 27:48have got it all right. So what's campaign gonna look like? Because rich
- 27:52campaigns for for for judicial officers are a little different. You know, sometimes
- 27:56they can be you don't you know, you don't see all a whole lot
- 28:00of attacks and and sometimes sometimes some of the packs do get involved in things.
- 28:04But what what kind of approach are you're going to use to campaigning Rich
- 28:07Well, the nuts and bolts of any type of campaign that I've been part
- 28:10on, part part of and lead is that, you know, a good
- 28:14grassroots effort effort. I'm a big canvasser. I believe in meeting people where
- 28:18they are. I intend to run this race like I've run in every other
- 28:22race in that regard. You know, I think that I think what people
- 28:25need to know, you know, when when considering judicial candidates, I think
- 28:30it's important to know again that experience, you know, is it the first
- 28:33time they've been in a trial courtroom. That That's one thing I think a
- 28:37question should should be asked. I think I can answer that. I think
- 28:41the other thing is I think that, you know, making sure that people
- 28:45understand that I am one who believes that again, putting a judge's role is
- 28:52to put their personal you know, beliefs, political or otherwise aside and just
- 28:57apply the law to the fact. I think, you know, it is
- 29:00essential for not just our judiciary, but our democracy to have consistency in our
- 29:07courts. And the way you have consistencies is when you have judges follow the
- 29:11law. The reason why that consistency is important is because I was actually thinking
- 29:15about this and I'm I'm gonna steal it from Andrew Jackson, you know,
- 29:19two hundred years ago or whatever. But you know, the courts don't have
- 29:23a military, all right there they They're rulings are not enforced in that way.
- 29:30The reason why rulings are followed, in part is because people believe that
- 29:36the laws being applied equally. The people believe that the law is consistent.
- 29:40And I think as a judge you play an important role in making sure that
- 29:42people continue to believe that in that it is so that it's not just a
- 29:47belief indeed. So yeah, I've asked I'm gonna close with this. Some
- 29:52of the other candidates that I've had that are rich, that are running for
- 29:55other circuit courts and things that nature, I've I've thrown out this question to
- 29:59pretty much all up them. And that has been There has been real or
- 30:02imagine, there has been talk around America that people a certain certain segment about
- 30:10legislating from the bench and about making rules from the bench. And we've seen
- 30:14it. I mean, there's been accusations of that here in Canock, can
- 30:15There's been accusations of that on the Supreme Court going up to that level It
- 30:18all depends on which party is in charge. I think as to which who
- 30:22they have a problem with your comment on that legislation from the bench or I
- 30:30disagree with that. That's a different function. Legislature makes the law, the
- 30:33executive enforces the law, and the judiciary applies the law and interprets the law.
- 30:37I think that again, one of the worst things that can happen in
- 30:41our judiciary and our system of government is if a litigant comes out of a
- 30:45courtroom believing that they got a raw deal because of the different political opinions the
- 30:49judge may have than themselves. I take that seriously. I think that that's
- 30:55important. It's greater than Richard Lindsay. It's greater than any party. It's
- 31:00it's that belief and principle that that's what a judge is supposed to do.
- 31:03Do you have your websites and all that up you're working on it? Or
- 31:07yeah, no, no, I have the website up, but thank you
- 31:10for asking. I would have forgotten that. It's a Lindsay for WV dot
- 31:14com. L I N D S A Y number four WV dot com.
- 31:18All right, and you know the way this works. Anytime I ever have
- 31:21a candidate on always close with the thing I call the Final thirty, and
- 31:25I'll have you and anybody else's running on several times between now an election day.
- 31:29Why should people vote for Rich lindsay? I ask folks to vote for
- 31:32me because I believe I have the experience necessary to be a judge that not
- 31:37only is committed to this community in our county, but is looks forward to
- 31:41being part of the solution when it comes into abuse, when it comes to
- 31:45abuse and neglect cases, then also has the experience and to the proven experience
- 31:51to act quickly on actions, all actions, be they criminal, civil,
- 31:56or otherwise. Rich, I wish you the best to luck. All right,
- 31:59I'm going to forget that Cowboys and Red's statement. You man, I
- 32:01want to make sure happy end. I don't know if you've told your listen.
- 32:05I have not yet, but I was going to tell on my list
- 32:07of things to talk about. Okay, Well, May is my wedding annivers
- 32:09We'll make sure Ruth gets a donut, makes sure she knows that they're donuts
- 32:13here. I don't know if she likes donuts, but there's a whole variety.
- 32:15I brought them for her, not for you. Well, you know,
- 32:19if you look around this building and you see Chris Lawrence, and you
- 32:22see the sales weasels upstairs, whatever, you really think those donuts are gonna
- 32:25make it back to Tay's Valley. I mean, comes, just get one.
- 32:28There's eleven, all right, all right, there's eleven. Well,
- 32:30someone already came up. Someone it wasn't me. Someone want to test it
- 32:34to make sure it was good. Oh. I have to have food testers
- 32:37for this show now because there's all the enemies I make Riche Lyncy, I
- 32:39wish you the best to like man, We'll have you on again. Thanks

- 36:58is on Thursday show. Councilwoman Shannon Snodgrass. Oh man, let me knock
- 37:04out some text here. Text says, oh yeah about Hurricane High School student
- 37:09fastest high school in the I'm sorry. We had a text earlier in the
- 37:13show about Hurricane High School and a student there who is the fastest runner in
- 37:17the nation right now, and they wanted to make sure they texted back that
- 37:22and it's an all capitalist just say in the nation fastest runner in the nation
- 37:27goes to Hurricane High School, and texture wanted me to point out not a
- 37:31transfer, actually a Hurricane native, at least somebody that's been in the school
- 37:37system there, So congratulations to that young student. Text says the West Virginia
- 37:44GOP will be making endorsements in nonpartisan elections in the spring. It's safe to
- 37:50say the GOP will not be endorsing the liberal Rich Lendsay. According to a
- 37:54text Texas, Rich lindsay will one of the more liberal Democratic senators in the
- 38:00West Virginia Senate before losing his bid for reelection. West Virginia does not need
- 38:06any more liberal judges on the bench blocking conservative laws, just as we do
- 38:10not need liberals in the legislature. These liberal judges say they will not legislate
- 38:15from the bench, but that is exactly what they do. According to a
- 38:20texture, let me see here, Texas says we have enough progressive liberals on
- 38:25the canal circuit already. According to a texture, Texture says Dave Foster Kids
- 38:31situation of drug addiction has gotten worse in the last ten years and there's no
- 38:36end in sight. Time to make change. Creepers for change. According to
- 38:39a Texter, I would be remiss if I don't, if I did not
- 38:45mention this big milestone. Today is my thirty first wedding anniversary, as mister
- 38:53Lindsey pointed out earlier on the show, So you only have to put up
- 38:58with me for one hour a day. This poor soul gets me for the
- 39:04other twenty three and has done for thirty one years now. And so so
- 39:10happy anniversary to my wife, Ruthan. And it's funny because as you get
- 39:15older, and I am getting older, I think sometimes it means more.
- 39:22You know, maybe maybe you look back and you realize all the changes that
- 39:27have taken place in the world in those thirty one years that I've been married.
- 39:30You know, there was no internet to speak of back then, certainly
- 39:35no social media or smartphones. We were still recording things on VCRs. I
- 39:40was just wrapping up college and was working doing news at a radio station in
- 39:47Gallipolis, Ohio when we got married. Well here we are now thirty one
- 39:51years later, and we've moved on in our career. She's advanced. I'm
- 39:53still talking on the radio about houses, cars, you know, buried parents
- 39:59and all the things that you do as an adult. But I was looking
- 40:04at some of the pictures this morning before I came in of our wedding day.
- 40:08It was a beautiful sunny day in Whitman, West Virginia and Logan County,
- 40:14and the song in Color by one of my favorite artists, Jamie Johnson,
- 40:17kept going through in my head. The lyrics say, if we look
- 40:22like we were scared to death, like a couple of kids just trying to
- 40:25save each other, you should have seen it in color, And that is
- 40:30certainly true. I certainly don't deserve her, but I'm not you Stuck around

- 46:09why WVU and Marshall don't play each other, especially basketball? Like you said,
- 46:15but I just, Dave, I just don't care anymore. I really
- 46:20don't. The last the last few experiences were so horrible and I don't want
- 46:22to you know what I mean. It's you know, there's bad fans on
- 46:25both sides, but I just with Virginia Virginia Tech NC State. You know
- 46:31what I'm saying. I just I just don't care anymore. I mean,
- 46:35I just don't. So you're maybe that's me getting old. So you're a
- 46:38Marshall fan, Matt that says that you don't really care, whether that's not
- 46:44that's that's not a flight at them at all. I just I think I'm
- 46:47just tired of all the drama that surrounds it. Well, the one thing,
- 46:52Matt, I'll say this, and I agree with you, and people
- 46:54know I'm a Marshall guy, but that doesn't mean I did you do did
- 46:58you have to hate WVU? I don't consider I don't consider them to even
- 47:01be rivals now their rivals when they play each other, uh, you know,
- 47:06I mean when you know this weekend at thunder Mountains will be rivals will
- 47:08be rivals on a baseball field or whatever sport, but on a regular basis
- 47:13if they don't play, I don't know how they can consider. What I
- 47:15don't understand, though, is people that as soon as you know and and
- 47:21it's and again you're right mad. It goes on both sides. I don't
- 47:23understand how people from Marshall get joy in when West Virginia is struggling and vice
- 47:30versa. Well, and I've been to West Virginia athletic events, believe it
- 47:36or not, it's just so disconnected from Huntington, I guess, so far
- 47:40away. I mean the people that you know, that's just not top of
- 47:44mind to them. And I don't blame them, you know what I mean.
- 47:45I think the reason in Huntington that it's a little bit more in our
- 47:49face is because obviously there's statewide West Virginia fans, and especially once you cross
- 47:54the Cattle County lot, right. Yeah. But anyways, I just enjoyed,
- 48:00for the most part on the basketball games. Still a couple of the
- 48:02roughs, but I just I don't know, man, I'm just not as
- 48:07wrapped up in it. I'm really enjoying the scheduling that Marshall and uh,
- 48:12you know, has had over the last few years, and it has in
- 48:14the future, you know, and especially with teams coming here, willing to
- 48:16come here. And in the ad, took took that little took that little
- 48:20shot, you know, a couple of weeks ago. We have no interest.
- 48:22We're not even willing. That's fine, why, you know, And
- 48:24a reporter brought that up. I'm not saying the ad. I'm not saying
- 48:28that, you know, he brought it up on his own. But anyways,
- 48:32not to dry. I just I just don't care anymore, all right,
- 48:36man, I appreciate it, Thanky, thank you, see you four
- 48:38minutes away from a ten. Yeah, I mean, I'm kind of and
- 48:43and look, I'm gonna be the first to admit as I'm getting I'm getting
- 48:46older and getting wiser, you know. In addition to my wedding anniversary today,
- 48:50I turned fifty three on Saturday. So I'm just becoming that old guy.
- 48:53And Coop and others will tell you he's always been that old guy.
- 48:57But I used to get really wrapped up in the I and I took.
- 49:00You know, I try to on the Facebook page that I do, not
- 49:06my personal page, but the professional so to speak, Dave Allen Radio and
- 49:08also at Dave A seventy on X, the artist formerly known as Twitter.
- 49:14You know, I try to put an equal WVU and Marshall stuff on there,
- 49:16and I used to on my personal page. It was all about Marshall
- 49:21because that's where I went to college. And then I started getting stuff from
- 49:23people like and I'm a big Georgia Bulldog fan. And I'm not a bandwagon
- 49:28Georgia bulldog fan. I've been a Georgia Bulldog fan since nineteen eighty when I
- 49:31saw herschel Walker player. I'm a fan of herschel Walker the football player,
- 49:36not necessarily the want to be politician. However, every week I would say,
- 49:39you know, go bulldogs, go heard, you know, and not
- 49:43necessarily in that order. And I had people reaching out to me and said,
- 49:45well, how could we ever say the WV don't you know WV you
- 49:46plays blah blah blah this week. And I was saying, I'm kind of
- 49:50like Matt was. I just didn't. I just didn't really care. And
- 49:52it's not that I am anti West Virginia University. Obviously you listen to the
- 49:57show, you know I'm not. But you know, I'm a Marshall guy,
- 50:00and that's kind of where That's where I went to college. It's where
- 50:01I live in an area that's closer to Huntington. I go to games,
- 50:06and so you know, I was always that was always where my focus was.
- 50:10You know, it wasn't really on West Virginia University. But I'm trying
- 50:15to do better with that. I really am. Tex says I want w
- 50:20Marshall Capitol Classic Basketball game back men's and women's, but not to football.
- 50:23Marshall has never beaten WV in football. For the few years of the Friends
- 50:28of Colbol, it became boring. No offense, just facts. I don't
- 50:30disagree, don't disagree with that at all. I mean, and what I
- 50:34here's what I always tell my Marshall brethren. I always say, if we
- 50:37didn't hang with West Virginia University, well we hung with them, but if
- 50:42we didn't beat him, I'll say, in the days with Pennington Moss,
- 50:45I don't know that we would have done much better in years past, you
- 50:51know, in some of the more lean years from Marshall University. But you
- 50:55know, I want to speak in a sports and I get accused sometime.
- 51:00Also talked about sports too much on the show. But this is more of
- 51:01an economic thing than it is a sports thing. Stories posted on our websites.
- 51:06It was a good season for the Dirty Birds attendance wise. WCHS network
- 51:09dot com has got the story. More people came out this year for Dirty
- 51:15Birds games it did last season. Attendance is up fifteen percent. I was
- 51:19skeptical when they made the announcement, you know, among that they weren't gonna
- 51:22take cash at the games. And people I had texted the show people said
- 51:27I won't go to another game. Well maybe you didn't, but others did.
- 51:30Because attendance is up, which is good news for Charleston because again,
- 51:35most people don't just go to a ball game. They used to go to
- 51:37dinner or something afterwards, and so they don't all eat at the ballpark,
- 51:42you know, kind of make it. I went to a whole lot of
- 51:44games when I lived in southern West Virginia. I loved going what was in
- 51:46the power. But anyway, congratulations all those folks of Dirty Birds. You're
- 51:51doing it right over there, and again attendance is up. All right,
- 51:54gotta go. My thanks to my producer Dale Cooper rich Lindsay for being on
- 51:58the show today as well as Webbed Under the Mountains this weekend. Will be
- 52:00of course keeping updated on that a whole lot coming up tomorrow on the show.
- 52:05Millie Snyder, a friend from the Shape Shop, will be here and
- 52:07State Democratic Party Chair Mike Pushkin on the show tomorrow, Hoppy coming up of
- 52:13the news or with talk Mine, I should say, and they'll see tomorrow
- 52:15till they have fun. Happy anniversary, Ruthann and love somebody
