- 0:05This is the Sacramento Brief, your weekday roundup
- 0:09of overnight headlines and what's ahead across
- 0:12the city. I'm Carol. It's Thursday, April 16th,
- 0:162026. Let's get you caught up. Another update
- 0:20on Friday's deadly shooting at Natomas High School.
- 0:23Investigators have confirmed the deceased and
- 0:25an accomplice were not students of Natomas High
- 0:28Campus. Authorities say they entered the school
- 0:31armed, wearing ski masks, and carrying a handgun,
- 0:34targeting a specific student, during what officials
- 0:38described as an attempted robbery of that student.
- 0:41That student, who was also armed, shot and killed
- 0:44the suspect. After reviewing the case, District
- 0:47Attorney Thien Ho announced no homicide charges
- 0:50will be filed, citing self -defense and insufficient
- 0:54evidence to prove otherwise beyond a reasonable
- 0:57doubt. District Attorney also emphasized the
- 1:00growing concern that students feel the need to
- 1:03carry weapons on campus. Schools, he says, should
- 1:07be a safe haven, not a place where survival feels
- 1:10necessary. In City Watch, Sacramento County is
- 1:15taking a look back at its progress made in 2025.
- 1:19The county's newly released year -end report
- 1:22review highlights major investments across health
- 1:26care, housing, infrastructure, and public safety,
- 1:29backed by a $9 .2 billion budget and more than
- 1:3312 ,000 employees. Among the highlights, foster
- 1:37care entries were down significantly over the
- 1:39past decade, more than $134 million in child
- 1:44support was collected, over 150 new treatment
- 1:51beds. On homeless, outreach teams helped hundreds
- 1:55transition into housing while new regional coordination
- 1:58efforts aimed to improve long -term outcomes.
- 2:02And in infrastructure, more than 100 ,000 potholes
- 2:05were filled with over $120 million invested in
- 2:09roadway improvements. Bottom line, the county
