- Sean Graver: You've watched it happen from a distance for a while now, a coworker being treated poorly by someone who's been there for years and seems to have a pattern of doing this. You're not the one being targeted, at least not yet, but you're not sure what your role is here. Say something and risk getting pulled into a conflict that isn't yours or say nothing and watch someone else deal with it all alone? Well, my name is Sean. Welcome back to prayer before work. Well King Solomon writes something in Proverbs thirty one verses eight and nine that I think puts some real weight on this kind of a moment. He says Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy. Now the verse isn't about grand causes far away. It's about the instinct to speak up for someone who's currently in a weaker position than you are, right in front of you. So speaking up doesn't have to mean a dramatic confrontation or a formal complaint that you're not really ready to file anyway. It can be as simple as checking in privately with the person being targeted. Letting them know that you've noticed and You're on their side. It can mean calling out what you observed factually and calmly if you're ever asked, instead of staying vague to avoid conflict or discomfort. It can mean not laughing along or staying silent when a comment crosses a line in front of you. So you don't have to get confrontational or loud to be the kind of person who doesn't look away. Sometimes the smallest acknowledgement is exactly the defense Solomon is describing. So let's pray. God, give us the courage to notice when someone near us is being treated unfairly, instead of just looking past it because that's a lot easier. Show us the right way to speak up wisely and calmly without making things worse for the person we're trying to help. And and give the person going through this right now whatever support they need, even even if some of it comes through us. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen. And go make today count.
