  Speaker 1: by hearing from God.

  Speaker 1: Maybe you think, well, that sounds a little strange. What

  Speaker 1: do you mean hearing from God? What I mean is

  Speaker 1: we want to open the Bible, God's message to us,
• 0:25
  Speaker 1: and say to Him, God, would you take these words
• 0:27
  Speaker 1: on the page or words that I hear over the
• 0:30
  Speaker 1: air and make them relevant to me personally. I need
• 0:35
  Speaker 1: to hear from you. That's hearing from God. We're talking
• 0:41
  Speaker 1: all this week about guidance.
• 0:43
  Speaker 1: Having a sense from God about the way forward. Sometimes
• 0:48
  Speaker 1: we need guidance in little things. We're in the middle
• 0:51
  Speaker 1: of a conversation, and we need to know, God, how
• 0:55
  Speaker 1: do I respond in this difficult conversation? Sometimes it's more
• 1:00
  Speaker 1: of a life direction kind of decision we have to make.

  Speaker 1: Should I marry this person?
• 1:06
  Speaker 1: Uh, what course should I take at university? What kind
• 1:10
  Speaker 1: of job do you want for me? Uh, should I
• 1:12
  Speaker 1: go to Africa in obedience to a call from you?
• 1:18
  Speaker 1: These kinds of questions, uh, whatever it is, big or small,
• 1:22
  Speaker 1: it's so important to bring God into the middle of
• 1:27
  Speaker 1: those decisions that you face and have your life be
• 1:31
  Speaker 1: led by God.
• 1:34
  Speaker 1: We're looking each day at a different principle for finding
• 1:38
  Speaker 1: God's guidance in your life, and the principle I want
• 1:42
  Speaker 1: us to look at today comes out of the book
• 1:44
  Speaker 1: of 1 John chapter 5, verses 14 and 15. This
• 1:50
  Speaker 1: is what John writes to his readers. He says, this
• 1:56
  Speaker 1: is the confidence we have before God.

  Speaker 1: That if we ask anything according to His will, He
• 2:07
  Speaker 1: hears us.
• 2:08
  Speaker 1: And if we know that he hears us in whatever
• 2:13
  Speaker 1: we ask, we know that we have the requests which
• 2:17
  Speaker 1: we have asked from Him.
• 2:21
  Speaker 1: Well, yesterday we saw that if you want to really
• 2:24
  Speaker 1: have God's guidance in your life, you need to soak
• 2:27
  Speaker 1: the decision that you're facing in prayer.
• 2:30
  Speaker 1: And the principle today tells us that when you come
• 2:34
  Speaker 1: to God in prayer about these issues in your life,
• 2:38
  Speaker 1: there's something that needs to be in your prayers, a
• 2:41
  Speaker 1: certain attitude, and that is the attitude that says God.

  Speaker 1: I don't want you to just give me what I want.
• 2:50
  Speaker 1: I want to follow what you want in my life.
• 2:54
  Speaker 1: My whole attitude in asking for your guidance isn't just
• 2:59
  Speaker 1: a rubber stamp on the direction I've already decided I'm
• 3:03
  Speaker 1: going to go in.
• 3:05
  Speaker 1: No, this kind of prayer comes to God and says, God,
• 3:11
  Speaker 1: I know that you know what's best for my life.
• 3:13
  Speaker 1: In fact, when I look back on my life, I
• 3:15
  Speaker 1: see every time I've just gone my own way, I
• 3:17
  Speaker 1: just seem to mess things up. But every time I
• 3:21
  Speaker 1: have a sense of what you want me to do,
• 3:23
  Speaker 1: and I do it whether I feel like it or not.

  Speaker 1: There is a sense of rightness about my life. Then
• 3:30
  Speaker 1: a sense of completeness, a sense that I'm doing the
• 3:34
  Speaker 1: right thing.
• 3:36
  Speaker 1: Well, you know in your life that that sense goes
• 3:39
  Speaker 1: a very long way in giving you, uh, the power
• 3:43
  Speaker 1: to be committed through any circumstance that you face. So
• 3:48
  Speaker 1: here's the kind of prayer you need to pray.

  Speaker 1: God, first I want to listen to you.
• 3:56
  Speaker 1: I want to think from your word about what would
• 3:59
  Speaker 1: be the most God-honoring way to go forward, what would
• 4:05
  Speaker 1: most match what I know are God's priorities in life,
• 4:10
  Speaker 1: what would enable me to have the greatest impact for
• 4:14
  Speaker 1: God and for good in this world of the ways forward?
• 4:18
  Speaker 1: And when I think about the way you have made
• 4:21
  Speaker 1: me personally, God, different from other people.
• 4:25
  Speaker 1: Which of these options that I'm facing would most fit
• 4:28
  Speaker 1: with how you have made me, because I know that's
• 4:31
  Speaker 1: how you want to use me in life. That's why
• 4:34
  Speaker 1: you made me that way. Once you spend time with
• 4:38
  Speaker 1: God just listening, thinking through these kinds of things, saying, God,
• 4:42
  Speaker 1: I want to put you first. I want to honour
• 4:45
  Speaker 1: you in my life, then you know that once you
• 4:49
  Speaker 1: have a sense out of that, this is what God
• 4:53
  Speaker 1: would do.
• 4:54
  Speaker 1: Then you have such confidence. God's going to lead me.
• 4:57
  Speaker 1: God's going to guide me if we ask anything according
• 5:02
  Speaker 1: to His will. He hears us. And if we know
• 5:05
  Speaker 1: that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know
• 5:08
  Speaker 1: that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.
