- 0:26Speaker 1: Andrew to Checko is here today for today's edition of
- 0:30Speaker 1: Football at four. A lot happening with the Philadelphia Eagles
- 0:33Speaker 1: as they get ready for a very interesting opponent, the
- 0:37Speaker 1: Denver Broncos. We're gonna break them down. We're gonna break
- 0:40Speaker 1: it down right now with Andrew to Checko from Inside
- 0:43Speaker 1: the Birds dot Com and the Inside of the Birds Podcast.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Eagles lead the all time series. Nine and five is
- 0:51Speaker 1: their record, and they have won the last two meetings.
- 0:53Speaker 1: They are favored by three and a half. A third
- 0:55Speaker 1: straight win would be the longest win streak in this
- 0:58Speaker 1: matchup between the Eagles in the Broncos. But this is
- 1:01Speaker 1: a sneaky good Broncos team, Andrew to Checko. They play
- 1:05Speaker 1: good defense, they have a really good offensive line, and
- 1:08Speaker 1: they're coming off a very impressive Monday night win over
- 1:12Speaker 1: the Bengals.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Yep, there's no doubt about it. And when the schedule
- 1:16Speaker 2: came out, I sort of circle Week five as a
- 1:19Speaker 2: game to keep an eye on that could be sneaky, entertaining,
- 1:21Speaker 2: and meaningful for a couple of different reasons, and the
- 1:24Speaker 2: first being that this is really where I believe you
- 1:27Speaker 2: were going to get a better sense of what the
- 1:29Speaker 2: Eagles identity is and what I'm expecting to be a
- 1:32Speaker 2: nice measuring stick.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Let's see all the lead up to this game. We'll
- 1:36Speaker 1: talk more about the matchup hear in just a second.
- 1:38Speaker 1: But obviously you're in that locker room. You're covering everything
- 1:41Speaker 1: that's going on. Is all this aj Brown stuff done?
- 1:45Speaker 1: Is it peace in harmony? Or does this carry over
- 1:48Speaker 1: throughout the season.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't usually like getting into this, but yeah,
- 1:53Speaker 2: I guess it's for now that they put a pin
- 1:55Speaker 2: in it. Aj I thought was really accountable when he
- 1:58Speaker 2: spoke at his locker and took you know, took ownership
- 2:03Speaker 2: of what he said and he mentioned also and it
- 2:06Speaker 2: really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that he knows
- 2:08Speaker 2: the impact that he can make when he's involved offensively,
- 2:11Speaker 2: especially when they're struggling. He said, I want the ball,
- 2:14Speaker 2: you know, put that Put that on me because that's
- 2:16Speaker 2: what I work for. I want that pressure. And so
- 2:19Speaker 2: I think it's going to be kind of an ebbs
- 2:21Speaker 2: and flows thing with this offense. They're not going to
- 2:23Speaker 2: force feed him, but they do need to get the
- 2:25Speaker 2: passing game going, make the mistake about it, and they
- 2:28Speaker 2: need to get aj Brown involved way earlier. He's an
- 2:31Speaker 2: elite player at the position, and needless to say, he
- 2:35Speaker 2: can make a monumental impact on a game, even on
- 2:38Speaker 2: a short completion where he can shed tacklers and turn
- 2:42Speaker 2: it into a forty five fifty yard pickup. So that's
- 2:45Speaker 2: really all I have to I have to say.
- 2:46Speaker 1: On that, all right, Well, and his opening statements said, look,
- 2:49Speaker 1: I want to say, obviously after the game, I let
- 2:51Speaker 1: my frustrations boil over. I want to get your perspective
- 2:53Speaker 1: on the football thing here, because he did get nine
- 2:55Speaker 1: targets last week.
- 2:56Speaker 3: He had ten, the week before, he had eight the
- 2:59Speaker 3: week before that.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Why in the game with eight and nine are the
- 3:03Speaker 1: numbers not there and the week with ten, Yeah, he
- 3:05Speaker 1: had one hundred yards. What are we seeing from the
- 3:07Speaker 1: passing game that he is getting targets but they are
- 3:11Speaker 1: not fulfilling targets.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Well, you got to look at the quality of the targets.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I mean, you look at two or three of the
- 3:17Speaker 2: targets in the Tampa Bay game, two of which sailed
- 3:19Speaker 2: out of bounds, and there was another that was a
- 3:21Speaker 2: shorter completion that was nearly picked off, and one that
- 3:24Speaker 2: was a little bit wide. So I mean it's a
- 3:28Speaker 2: culmination of things. You could look at the route concepts.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I thought I was going to see more in breakers
- 3:33Speaker 2: against that defense than I saw on Sunday. You can
- 3:35Speaker 2: look at overall execution, Jalen Hurst getting the ball out faster,
- 3:39Speaker 2: the offensive line not necessarily holding up as we've grown
- 3:43Speaker 2: accustomed to them seeing, especially from the interior. So I
- 3:47Speaker 2: think it's just a culmination of things as to why
- 3:49Speaker 2: they're not able to get him on the same page.
- 3:51Speaker 2: But I think early in games they've gone away from
- 3:54Speaker 2: that and they're trying to really hang their hat on
- 3:57Speaker 2: this running game that's struggling to take shape. And then
- 4:00Speaker 2: when the running game's not going and things aren't falling
- 4:03Speaker 2: into their favor, that's where they have to take to
- 4:05Speaker 2: the air, and teams are the sort of sitting on
- 4:07Speaker 2: that and squatting on things because they know that they
- 4:10Speaker 2: can't run the football effectively right now, and that's where
- 4:12Speaker 2: you see them put a little bit more stress on
- 4:14Speaker 2: the passing game. And I also don't agree with this
- 4:17Speaker 2: sentiment that you know players aren't getting open that. I mean,
- 4:20Speaker 2: you could point to a small handful of times in
- 4:24Speaker 2: any NFL game where a player isn't able to uncover,
- 4:27Speaker 2: but what is uncovering in the NFL? The windows are
- 4:31Speaker 2: so small that you have to be able to pounce
- 4:33Speaker 2: and take advantage of it. So they have to get better,
- 4:35Speaker 2: There's no doubt about it.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Andrew de Checko Football for Inside the Birds podcast, Inside
- 4:39Speaker 1: the Birds dot Com. They're not running the ball very well.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Andrew Lane Johnson has been in and out, Tyler Steen
- 4:45Speaker 1: replacing McKay Beckton, and then you go over to landon Dickerson.
- 4:48Speaker 1: He might be out there but doesn't appear to be himself.
- 4:51Speaker 1: This offensive line. Are they obviously not as good as
- 4:55Speaker 1: the line that we're used to seeing.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I mean that's fair to say, but there's
- 5:01Speaker 2: also context that's required. They're obviously banged up there. Landon
- 5:04Speaker 2: Dickerson went into the season nursing an injury. He battles
- 5:08Speaker 2: through it more than any player I've ever seen. He's
- 5:10Speaker 2: a warrior, but he's clearly not himself. Cam Jurgen's had
- 5:15Speaker 2: back surgery in February and didn't work all that much
- 5:18Speaker 2: in training camp. Tyler Stein suffered an injury right before
- 5:21Speaker 2: the half came back in but wasn't one hundred percent.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Lane Johnson's been working through some things, so they're not
- 5:27Speaker 2: at full strength.
- 5:29Speaker 4: And that sort of leads them to that is able
- 5:34Speaker 4: to I guess that compounds things in the sense that
- 5:38Speaker 4: their offensive line isn't necessarily able to hold up quite.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Like it has. But I think Jordan mylotta lost in
- 5:44Speaker 2: all this has been fantastic through the first four games.
- 5:47Speaker 1: All right, Andrew, let's take a look at some other
- 5:49Speaker 1: things that are happening. I want to get your take
- 5:51Speaker 1: on what's going to happen when d Kobe Dean. It
- 5:52Speaker 1: seems that the coaches or e've been kind of lost.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I'm sure they have an idea in maybe in private meetings,
- 5:57Speaker 1: but how did they utilize him when he he's ready
- 6:00Speaker 1: to return what do they do with Jahi Campbell. That
- 6:02Speaker 1: kind of looks like something that's going to be hitting
- 6:05Speaker 1: an apex here pretty soon.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Yeah, so we'll have to wait and see, obviously, but
- 6:12Speaker 2: it's kind of a good problem to have if you're
- 6:13Speaker 2: the Eagles and Vic Vanjou doesn't traditionally rotate linebackers, but
- 6:17Speaker 2: I think he with a player like Nakobe Dean of
- 6:20Speaker 2: that talent, you tend to wonder if he's going to
- 6:23Speaker 2: make an exception because there should be a role for him.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Now.
- 6:26Speaker 2: I'm not suggesting that he's going to suddenly take on
- 6:28Speaker 2: a sizeable workload, but sporadically, I think he can be
- 6:31Speaker 2: a situational player. He's very effective and tough against the run,
- 6:35Speaker 2: and he's an effective blitzer as well, So there are
- 6:38Speaker 2: certain facets of that defense situationally that I could see
- 6:43Speaker 2: him having an impact in. And I don't believe they're
- 6:45Speaker 2: going to do anything with ja High Campbell. He's playing
- 6:47Speaker 2: too well right now as an off ball linebacker and
- 6:50Speaker 2: as a rookie. The last thing you want to do,
- 6:51Speaker 2: I would have to imagine, is take him from a
- 6:54Speaker 2: position that he's continuously growing within each week. You can
- 6:58Speaker 2: see it even you know, series the series and make
- 7:02Speaker 2: him reduce his stats. I don't see that happening either,
- 7:04Speaker 2: but I do think the Nakobe Deane's gun in a
- 7:07Speaker 2: factor in defensively.
- 7:08Speaker 1: All right, let's take a quick look at the matchups here.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I want to get your opinion. Denver's defense ranks first
- 7:13Speaker 1: in QBR, their first in sacks, second in pressures. So
- 7:17Speaker 1: what kind of defense do we think? What kind of
- 7:20Speaker 1: offensive game plan do we think Philadelphia needs to kind
- 7:23Speaker 1: of have this week against this very aggressive Broncos defense.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I still think they're going to try
- 7:29Speaker 2: and get the running game going. But the passing game
- 7:33Speaker 2: is interesting here because you have Pat Certain at corner,
- 7:37Speaker 2: Riley Moss another corner on the other side, he should
- 7:40Speaker 2: see a lot of DeVante Smith, which I think that
- 7:42Speaker 2: that heavily favors the Eagles. Then they have ja Kwan McMillan.
- 7:46Speaker 2: He's their nickel corner and he's been a really good
- 7:48Speaker 2: story development. Undrafted for Agent in twenty twenty two out
- 7:50Speaker 2: of East Carolina, a good student under Christian Parker, the
- 7:55Speaker 2: Eagles defensive backs coach. And they have Hufanga the safety there,
- 7:59Speaker 2: who's more of a thumper. I think the area to
- 8:02Speaker 2: exploit them when they do take to the air is
- 8:05Speaker 2: in that second level where they have former Eagles linebacker
- 8:07Speaker 2: Alex Singleton patrolling that second level and Justin Sonnet from
- 8:14Speaker 2: Wake Forest. I liked him coming out of the draft.
- 8:16Speaker 2: But those are two players that I think the Eagles
- 8:18Speaker 2: should be able to to take advantage of. But they
- 8:20Speaker 2: have to wait and see on the availability of Dallas Goddards.
- 8:23Speaker 2: That could impact things greatly.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Now they play a lot of man defense the Broncos.
- 8:27Speaker 1: The zone has been given the Eagles the problems, right,
- 8:29Speaker 1: That's what the problem has been is teams, you know,
- 8:31Speaker 1: Dallas zoned them up ninety percent of the time, Tampas
- 8:34Speaker 1: zoned them up.
- 8:36Speaker 3: This could be a week where maybe.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts, you know, has the ability to then you know,
- 8:41Speaker 1: do something he feels more comfortable. Has that been a
- 8:43Speaker 1: problem for their passing game?
- 8:47Speaker 2: It just looks disjointed, and you know, it's it's unfair
- 8:51Speaker 2: to pinpoint everything on Kevin Patoula. I think to do
- 8:54Speaker 2: that is extremely short sighted. Okay, there's the offensive line,
- 8:57Speaker 2: there's getting the ball out faster, there's the route concepts
- 9:01Speaker 2: to play, getting in and out of the huddle fast,
- 9:04Speaker 2: and I know that it's easy to point out the
- 9:06Speaker 2: offensive coordinator, but there's a lot of moving pieces to that,
- 9:08Speaker 2: and I think that's important that that that the audience
- 9:11Speaker 2: knows that there it's disjointed on many levels. And I
- 9:14Speaker 2: don't know that it's jaywhen Hurst not being comfortable in
- 9:17Speaker 2: it or anything like that. They have yet to establish
- 9:19Speaker 2: an identity. I don't know exactly what they're looking to
- 9:21Speaker 2: accomplish on that side of the ball yet. Are they
- 9:24Speaker 2: a run first team? Are they a pass heavy team?
- 9:26Speaker 2: Are they a team that tempts that attempts deep shots
- 9:29Speaker 2: don't We don't know that yet because we haven't seen it.
- 9:31Speaker 2: And this is the week that I sort of earmarked
- 9:33Speaker 2: as sort of a point in the season where you
- 9:37Speaker 2: should have a better sense of what this team is
- 9:40Speaker 2: and what their identity is. And I think that they're
- 9:42Speaker 2: going to have an opportunity here against the Broncos team
- 9:45Speaker 2: who is pretty well rounded, to get things going if
- 9:48Speaker 2: they can get the passing game and allow jaywhen Hurst
- 9:51Speaker 2: to settle into the flow with these short completions to
- 9:54Speaker 2: move the offense and keeping on keep it on schedule.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Yeah, Andrew a couple more with Andrew to check Aboway
- 9:58Speaker 1: Hurts seventy four comple in four touchdowns six point seven
- 10:02Speaker 1: yards in the past versus man this season sixty six
- 10:05Speaker 1: percent with one touchdown five point six yards per attempt
- 10:09Speaker 1: versus the zone. So we'll see if Hurst can get
- 10:12Speaker 1: himself going, if this disjointed pass game can get themselves going.
- 10:17Speaker 1: And then you know, obviously you've got the Denver offense.
- 10:20Speaker 1: What impresses you or would worry you if you're Vic
- 10:23Speaker 1: Fangio about the Denver offense, which you know it doesn't
- 10:26Speaker 1: have that high profile wide receiver. Running back olod JK
- 10:31Speaker 1: Dobbins did have one hundred yards last week. And Bo
- 10:33Speaker 1: Nix is an interesting guy, kind of a radic at times,
- 10:35Speaker 1: but had a really good game on Monday Night.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Yeah, Vic Grangio likened bow Knicks to Baker Mayfield, and
- 10:43Speaker 2: he can kind of escape and he should likes to
- 10:46Speaker 2: try and make plays outside of structure. Now he throws,
- 10:49Speaker 2: he's throwing four interceptions this season against seven touchdowns. But
- 10:52Speaker 2: let's look at their skill position. They're pretty deevid wide receiver.
- 10:55Speaker 2: They also have Troy Franklin in the slot. He played
- 10:58Speaker 2: college football with Bo Knicks at Oregon. They have Marvin Mims,
- 11:02Speaker 2: who I like quite a bit coming out a couple
- 11:03Speaker 2: of years ago, and Courtland Sutton, who's more the big body,
- 11:06Speaker 2: possession receiver can go up and get it and win
- 11:08Speaker 2: those fifty to fifty balls. So yeah, they have a
- 11:11Speaker 2: pretty good receiving core. And then the running game. The
- 11:13Speaker 2: Eagles haven't necessarily been as stout as normal defending the
- 11:17Speaker 2: run because they have a you saw what Bucky Irving
- 11:20Speaker 2: is able to do against the Buccaneers, really tough running,
- 11:22Speaker 2: good contact balance. They have to bring these guys down
- 11:25Speaker 2: and especially in the open field. But they have JK.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Dobbins's averaging five point seven yards of carry and rookie RJ.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Harvey at the second round pick out of UCF who's
- 11:32Speaker 2: averaging five point one yards of carry, and they both
- 11:35Speaker 2: present a different type of skill set. So if they
- 11:38Speaker 2: have the luxury being able to keep both of those
- 11:39Speaker 2: players fresh and putting that unique stress on the on
- 11:43Speaker 2: the Eagles defense, So it's going to be paramount for
- 11:45Speaker 2: them to set the tone up front and force Bonicks
- 11:48Speaker 2: to throw the football because if he does and they
- 11:50Speaker 2: get past Happy, I think there's going to be an
- 11:52Speaker 2: interception or two.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Okay, by the way, you were in Tampa. It's hot
- 11:56Speaker 1: down there, Kaylee Ringo. I know this week Vic Dangel
- 11:59Speaker 1: kind of insinuated that he liked what he did, sticky
- 12:02Speaker 1: coverage and could possibly keep that job. Do you like
- 12:05Speaker 1: what you see more from what Ringo gave you against
- 12:08Speaker 1: Tampa or do you think of Dori Jackson will be back?
- 12:11Speaker 2: Yeah, Kiey Ringo. Yeah, I thought Keighley did a nice job.
- 12:15Speaker 2: He was relatively sticky in coverage. In fact, that's the
- 12:18Speaker 2: word that that Vic Fanjo used to describe him. It's
- 12:21Speaker 2: got to get a little bit better and shore with
- 12:23Speaker 2: his tackles. There was a two or three that he'd
- 12:25Speaker 2: probably liked to have back. But I mean the tape
- 12:28Speaker 2: showed that when although the ball didn't come into a
- 12:30Speaker 2: side all that much, and for some reason Baker Mayfield
- 12:33Speaker 2: attacked Quinia Mitchell through the air and it didn't work
- 12:36Speaker 2: out for them. Surprisingly, I would say that, you know,
- 12:40Speaker 2: Keiey Ringo had pretty good coverage on those receivers. And
- 12:45Speaker 2: I said this on I don't remember what platform at
- 12:47Speaker 2: this time, but it was something that I could see
- 12:50Speaker 2: that his confidence never wavered and despite things not going
- 12:54Speaker 2: his way, coming out of training camp and he saw
- 12:56Speaker 2: that on the field, didn't didn't sink his head, he
- 12:59Speaker 2: didn't hang his head, he didn't. The body language is
- 13:02Speaker 2: really positive and he got after it every snap. Good
- 13:04Speaker 2: player bat and I think that's a good telltale of
- 13:07Speaker 2: the DNA of a good cornerback. So we'll have to
- 13:10Speaker 2: wait and see if they turned on him this week.
- 13:12Speaker 2: I think that Doorri Jackson does some things better in
- 13:14Speaker 2: terms of fluidity. He moves better, he has good lateral movement,
- 13:18Speaker 2: and he can transition better. But Ringo has the size,
- 13:21Speaker 2: the physicality, and you know a player who at that
- 13:24Speaker 2: age twenty three years old, you can work with them,
- 13:27Speaker 2: you can continue to develop them. And I don't know
- 13:29Speaker 2: that it serves him or the Eagles any benefit of
- 13:33Speaker 2: Yankingham and then going with a thirty year old corner
- 13:36Speaker 2: But we'll wait and see. Fanjo said it's possible that
- 13:39Speaker 2: that kiey Ringo could be back out there.
- 13:40Speaker 3: He's Andrew to check o. Everybody there.
- 13:42Speaker 1: You go a little breakdown of the Eagles and Broncos
- 13:44Speaker 1: should be fun. It is a one o'clock game at
- 13:46Speaker 1: the link and you can listen to it right here
- 13:48Speaker 1: on ninety seven three ESPN.
- 13:50Speaker 3: That is football at four.
- 13:51Speaker 1: He is Andrew to Checko from the Inside of the Birds podcast,
- 13:54Speaker 1: Inside the Birds dot Com. Andrew, take care Bud, you too.
