Transcript
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: time for the 49ers rush podcast.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: and here's your host, John Chapman.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: What is going on faithful and is absolutely incredible?
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: To be with you guys on the weekend, man, we get the rare weekend count down, which this one's pretty, I mean, they cite me grows with every single countdown video because you're getting better players.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: you start at 91 and maybe just kind of keep climbing, keep climbing, this is our halfway point of the countdown series, which again, I'm kind of liking the way we're doing it this year.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think we're going to be doing it this way.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: We're doing the live episode.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't used to do that, we used to do one individual, and it was just so much work on the back end with editing, clipping, posting, all that stuff.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: This, the five players per episode, just, I like the flow a lot more.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: And we're past the 53 man cut off.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: So most of these players, I'd probably say four out of five of the players we discussed discussed today.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: We'll probably be making the roster possibly five out of five, but there's always like an injury or something weird or a trade or you know, fill in the blank.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: These are good players that are on the back end of the 53.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: But have a path that have a very clear distinct pathway and, you know, the title, the show is 40 hours highest upside rookie and I believe that he's going to be the last one we talk about, but like
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: the upside for the play we're talking about today is just uncanny.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: It really really is.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: I want to say thank you to all the hashtags he sees the countdown crew coming and starting to get a started word up.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: Logan says, let's go on first.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: You are first.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: Logan, the CC was first.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: Lex was second.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: Appreciate you guys.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: What's up, howdy.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: Appreciate you, Joe.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: Paul Hope.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: The freaking man saw the announcement of the
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: London watch party man.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: I hope all is okay with family.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: Just want to let you know we love you praying for you man.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully everything's good And we got Josh at the house who's one of the producers of this series.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: We've got Ben Josh in Zach Who were just always out there crushing it man and thank you so much Josh for all your help Paul right here Happy Saturday faithful the son of shining the UK and it's another day closer to football We are exactly 75 days away.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: We are Connor Colby
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: days away from NFL kickoff.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: So we got 75 days to finish this roster countdown series, which we'll get it done.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, Connor Colby is going to be your starting guard week one for the 49ers.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just, yeah, I'm sticking with him.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: Connor Colby's going to win that job.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: I really like what that kid's made of.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I think what he learned the last year, I'm just telling you, Connor Colby, baby.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: Connor Colby.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Alex, you ain't gotta worry about that here.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: We don't talk about that here.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: Love of the hat, JC, that's right.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: Man, faithful, it's my faithful hat, it's my favorite hat.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a fan of fans, that's what it's about.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: And you guys are the best of the best.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: Howdy was upset about Kaylin Black when he was drafted, but warming up to the potential.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: This is what we do.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: This is what every single NFL fan does, not just 49ers fan.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_00]: Every single NFL fan, all 32 teams.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: Your team drafts somebody and you're just like, what?
- 3:57[UNKNOWN]: What?
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: You have me, kidding me.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: And then you're like, you start watching the highlights.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: You start hearing people like me talk and you're just like, you
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: Kaylin Black.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's Neo.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm telling you, man.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to buck the trend.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: I hated where he was drafted.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: Still hate where he was drafted, but there are some things about him that, you know, what?
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: He fell into the best place.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: You could possibly be behind Christian McAfrey.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: And you get to learn, you know, the Shadowhand Zone scheme.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: not a bad place to be not a bad place to be so yeah let's go all good deal yeah I love this small thank you all good with the family buddy thank you for asking appreciate you good good good good good so let's get started this episode 1,067 good lord man I talk a lot my favorite review I've ever received
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: I got a one-star review one-time on, I don't remember what it was on, probably that Apple podcast or whatever, way back when reviews used to be a big deal.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: What's your feel like we're doing?
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: Man, leave us five stars, say something nice, we'd appreciate, does help us.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: But this one-time I got a one-star review on the four-day-on-charge podcast.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, man, this guy just talks too much.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's a solo podcast.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what if I'm supposed to juggle, I can juggle.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm actually decent juggler.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: If you can't tell that by the way, I look.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like what am I supposed to do besides talk?
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, but like that was my Twitter banner.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: for a long time.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: One star this guy talks too much.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: Um, yeah.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, it's, it's what it is.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: So let's get it started.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: Number 48.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: We're doing 48 to 44 today.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: All five players.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: Number 48.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: Jacob Cowwing positives and negatives galore.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: Mr. Routs on air pulled his hamstring not once, but twice
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: practice in training camp hardcore pool waited six weeks comes back very first day back pulls his hair straight again.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's the negative.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: Positive.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: We have seen it with our eyes that he could be a contributor.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: We have seen it.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: Dude took over a part return duties as a rookie and had no turnovers.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think he had one muff pun out of bounds, but it didn't cost the team or he made it close to the cost of the team.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like did his name job?
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: He had that 40 plus yard reception where he was like six yards behind the corner and Brock under the thrones.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: He had to come back and catch it.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: But what about the touchdown?
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: What about a walk in touchdown?
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: Like
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: There are glimpses of quality.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: This dude can play in the NFL.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: That small slot burner roll, that Shenehann's had everywhere he has been.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: Besides here, to be honest with you, and you go look at Houston, you go look at Washington, you go look at Atlanta, wherever Kyle Shenehann has been, he's had that small burner.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: Trent Taylor went really a burner, he was more the small possession guy, but Jacob County fits the mold,
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: Taylor Gabriel, like issue, Aldrich Robinson, like I mean, you go on and on and on, even the 40 hours current wide receiver coach, like that mold fits in this offense, and Jacob Cowling just hasn't put it together.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: This is third season.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: His rookie year was number 41 on the countdown.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: He dropped a couple spots last year was 44 40 hours at not one, not two, but five wide receivers this off.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: So he drops all the way down to 48.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: But with Skymore, no longer part of the team, I have to believe that Jake County is the odds on favorite and leader in the clubhouse at Poverty Turner.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: He's a year removed from attorney almost every time, the entire season.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: So, and I know, like, what have you done for me lately?
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody just remembers the two hamstring issues and I led.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: the conversation about Jake Piaon with that.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: So perhaps I'd part of the problem, which I know I am part of the problem.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: He wears jersey number 19, which is a clean look.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's 5.8.171.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: Tiny, tiny, tiny, 25 years old.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_00]: He is as old as Cayland Black, the rookie.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like if he just got drafted right now, he fits in with the $40 draft class.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: Play that U-TEP for three seasons.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: Then transfer to Arizona to be closer to his son.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: He was born and raised in Phoenix.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: burner.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: This dude ran a 438 track time.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: You ran a 10 7.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: He had a 216, which is even more impressive in the 200.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: He got second and third in state and back to back years.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: It was a father at 18 to his son Chase and he transferred from Newtept Arizona.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: So he could be closer, which got to respect that.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: A productive but tiny in college.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: And probably my favorite thing, 50 straight games played without missing a game comes to the
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: rookie season was not injury laid it like I know we put Ricky Pierce on Jacob Cowan in the same category the same draft class haven't played very much
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: But Jacob County didn't play his rookie year outside of part return.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: He couldn't learn the playbook.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: Shannon had threw him under the bus like he's got to earn it.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's got to prove that he knows what to do.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: Had some, you know, gets out there, has some misalignments, gets some penalties.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like you've got to have the upside.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: Kendrick Bourne's doing that in his year nine, but you've got to have the upside.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: to make that worth it, right?
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: Coward hasn't demonstrated that yet, but he has gone through the Shanahan talk house for wide receivers, which you kind of got to.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: Coward's been through that.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: Can he come out to the other side, is it back to back episodes of Shawshank Redemption climb through filth, worst thing imaginable came out clean on the other side.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: I freaking love it.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we just need Shawshank references and every single thing ever.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: Don't be too obtuse.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: Now, here's what's crazy it again.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like when you say Cowan, you think
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: I can say, healthy.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: Do it's had one injury.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: His entire college and NFL career.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: It was a hamstring that he re-entered.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I have in my notes.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: Don't talk about 49ers strength and conditioning staff.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: I have in my notes not to talk about it.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: The amount of re-entries to soft tissue is the biggest indictment to the training staff imaginable.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody can talk about whatever transistors and electricity don't give a damn turf don't like all that stuff.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: Re-entering soft tissue is poor athletic performance and IQ and poor strength and conditioning staff performance and IQ.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, I'm trying my hardest not to go down a hole and but whatever.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: That's not who we are But whatever, but like again Jacob Cowen has the second longest streak and NCAA football history For catches in consecutive games 57 straight games with the reception second longest ever so like we
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: What have you done for me lately?
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: It is so wrong to lump cowling in with the injured label.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: He does not fit that.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: Ricky Pierce saw didn't fit that either.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: Pierce saw has had six different injuries.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: Cowings had one.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: Cowings nowhere near as good as Pierce saw.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: Pierce saw is contributed way, way more.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: But Pierce saw has had six injuries.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you take away the gunshot five injuries.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: a lot of different injuries.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: So it is different, but Jacob County never missed one game in five seasons in college for two separate teams.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: One to punt return a roll off that like that is so rare.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: That is so rare.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: And like he had that 40 yard catch that was just like, ooh, right down the right side line where he just burned his dude.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't get a target the rest of the year and hasn't gotten a target since because he didn't play last year he was drafted in the fourth round pick 135 overall and you know one of my favorite things do every time we do a countdown person is like, okay, let's go back.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: Let's look at the draft and let's see like okay should the four areas have taken somebody else in that realm today miss was like whatever there is nobody that was picked around that was not a good draft 2024 that only two years in.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: But there's no one amazing picked after him.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's so like, I'm just looking at the fourth round.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, all right, yeah, like, you might want one or two guys more than him, just with what they've done so far, but like, there is nobody that's just like, man, they could have, and then I was like, let's look at the fifth round, still not like, there have been no major hits from the fourth or fifth rounds in that draft that like, you just don't scratch your head and be like, gosh, 40 hours could have aweshocks.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: that happen yet.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: It could change.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's entering into his third season.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: He only has four receptions, six targets for 80 yards, three first downs.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: Again, that one awesome 40 plus catch, and then couldn't get snaps after that.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: Just couldn't do it.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: Go back to his rookie year, 331 snaps from the slot, 138 out wide, I'm sorry.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: No, that's not his rookie or that's his last year in college.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: And again, he's playing opposite of technique, millet.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: And put up 89 receptions, 868 receiving yards 13 touchdowns.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: Dude was all over the place.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he's a playmaker and there is a room for that.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: Now definitely college, but also in the NFL, that small speed slot guy.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: Jacob Cowen is going to have a career and if the 49ers do move off of him because you added so much wide receiver depth, he's going to land somewhere.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: This is not a player you get a sneak by on the practice squad.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: If you cut wave whatever, Jacob Cowen the only way you keep in him is if you base the 53 or you put him with the injury designation where other people cannot take him.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: This is a player that has just shown too much.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, was he electric as a pump return or no?
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: Did he cost the 49ers in the games?
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: Also, hell though.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: That is huge.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: That is huge.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: Um, it's so again, zero snaps all of last year.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: And it had such a promising offseason to add in a lot of weight.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: Goes out there and didn't even make it through the very first offensive freaking period.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: And straight to the trading room, pulled hamstring.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: Hate to see it.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: Um, now he's got two years remaining on his deal, but you'll be able to do the restricted free agent part for that one.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: So you basically still have three years left.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so, so that's kind of where that is now you look at the depth chart.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: The wide receiver depth chart's intense, man.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: This is cut throat corner and people are going to be fighting, scrapping,
- 14:55[SPEAKER_00]: You like your rooms to bond.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure how much bonding is going to go on and because like you've got some clear demarcations, right?
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: You got my given, you got Ricky Pearsaw, you got to Sean Stripley.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: Those three 100% guaranteed there is nothing, any one of those three guys could do to where they would not make the roster.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: Then you got a clump.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: Christian Kirk, Jordan Walkins, Jacob Cowling to Marcus Robinson, those dudes are probably fighting for three spots.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: That is, and again, words we're about to talk about to Marcus Robinson.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's coming up on this countdown today, as well, which I'm glad we are.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_00]: Because you talk about what you want at the wide receiver position.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_00]: Why is County not played?
- 15:41[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't learn the playbook.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle Shannon didn't trust him.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_00]: Brock party didn't trust him.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: He's sitting on sidelines.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, they finally get your chance.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: Now you're interested.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: Can't count on you.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: To Marcus Robinson is a vet that's been doing it for 10 plus years.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think 10 years with these at like eight, but, you know what I mean?
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: This is about your trust.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: The playoffs is the best playoff I'd receive the four players had last year.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: What even close, you get that every wide receiver up, combine their stats in the two games last year, do not equal what, to Marcus Robinson did against the Eagles.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: Six catches, hundred plus yards, and the touchdown dude was bawling.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_00]: So you've got that insane competition.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: Then you've got the long shot slash dark horses, milk, Turner, Jr. Bergen, Wesley Grimes, Colton Dowell, will Pauline.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: That's a heavy room, man.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: It really, really is.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: Now,
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: Wesley Grimes and Will Pauline, those guys, I kind of want to put ahead of, maybe not on the count down, but just like, oh, they're ceilings pretty damn high.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like I could see those guys making a little bit of a dent and fighting for a spot.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, that's Jacob Cowley.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: Um, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: It would be awesome.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: It would be awesome.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I would really, really like that.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Logan Jacob routes on air, counting.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sold on it.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: That's, it hurts me.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: And it just hurts.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_00]: They like, you really need to be healthy.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: to win a spot for this wide receiver room.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's just too stout.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: Just too stout.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: Maria says, you know, I hope the Marcus Robinson gets a spot.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: He has the experience.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_00]: No, know how connected with party, great energy.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do it.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go to the next one.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: Number 47, the Marcus Robinson, dude, best player in training camp and the preseason.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not just
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: and kind of cut out of whatever because you can't practice with the team for a month comes back takes forever to work his way in and that's with all the wide receiver injuries and whatever else doesn't get cooking until the postseason and then it's the best wide receiver of the four errands have.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: So you've got experience, you know, he was the most experienced guy in the room.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: Now with Mike Evans, yeah, take take a seat, man.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: We've got this covered and I was correct the first time.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_00]: He's entering this 11th season.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: Now to Marcus Robinson was number 31 on the countdown.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's dropped 16 spots and a lot of that is because the four days wide receiver room was terrible last year.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: We said this multiple times leading up to the season.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: And it just got worse and worse as the season went on
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: You added five wide receivers, including your top pick.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's a different room now.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: To Mark's Robster Ware's number five, 6-1-203's 31-years-young played at Florida.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: He's a Georgia kid with a peach-county high school.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: Four-star recruit coming out, shows the gators.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_00]: really productive player.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: He was a fourth round pick with the chiefs.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_00]: He's had some problems off the field at Florida and with the chiefs.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's why the chiefs drafted him.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure that is their specialty.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: They love players like that.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: And the 49ers have learned to take chances.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: on veterans who have shown they have kind of overcome or bypassed some of the off-the-field troubles.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: They don't take chances on rookies with that stuff, not after Ruben Foster, they just don't touch that.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: But vets that have established Jack Jones, it's a barcus Robinson, that kind of overcome some of those immaturity and off-the-field issues.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: Niners taking a little bit more chance after the fact once they've established themselves and you know to mark shrubs and want to super pull with the chiefs against the 49ers sadly played with the Rams and actually like pushed Cooper Cup out of that number two spot for their playoff run before Cooper Cup left obviously very different wide receivers but
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there are several head coaches and he read McVay Shetty hand that buy into the Marcus Robinson.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of people out there keep saying, well, I think the Marcus Robinson is going to be the odd man out.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not so sure about that.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_00]: This guy still has a lot to give and the trust that you could give to the Marcus Robinson.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_00]: it's impressive.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: Now he's drafted the fourth round number one twenty nine, you know, shoot 11 seasons ago.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_00]: He was drafted the same round as the praying mantis.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: Y'all remember him.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_00]: Mr. Passett interference himself for Shard Robinson.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_00]: He was amazing in preseason in camp.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_00]: It would talk all that stuff stuff and they'd get out there.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_00]: It was just like PIP IPI bounce around the NFL then he was out.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, just kind of puts it into perspective
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: uh... the praying mantis long o'erms and a trampalky special right there now tomorrow's robs is not super fast four five nine but he's played so much football hundred sixty one games two hundred seventy two receptions uh... twenty eight career touchdowns and that's where he's best at i wish the dinners would allow him more red zone snaps
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like, Ricky Pierce also has not touched down guy.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that has been established in the red zone.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, that's not his forte.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_00]: I would love freaking Mike Evans and to Marcus Robinson is your two-wide receivers in the red zone.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: This dude crushes people without rounds.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: That little dead leg, stinky leg move inside, think breaks outside.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: That is the best thing that to Marcus Robinson does.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: There's a big reason.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: 28 career touchdowns nothing to laugh at.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: That's impressive.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: This dude is a red zone threat, not really a deep all guy, not really a gadget guy, not really speed guy, rent a 4.59 11 years ago, definitely the 4.6 territory now.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: But there's no reason why he can't be the type of Joann Jennings' S. Big slot, you know, third down in short, gold line type guy, that's the role that I just have a really used him in that manner.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I kind of
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, dude, you're misusing his best skill set.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_00]: You're not using it.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: Use it.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, like, he's just, he's a vet, he's a vet.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: Logan, to Marcus Robinson, just so reliable.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: He knows where he's supposed to be.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: Does what he's supposed to do?
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: He's not a big tackle breaker guy.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: Never has been in his career.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: He does his work in getting separation against elite physical corners.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's what he does.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, that filly game six catches,
- 22:40[SPEAKER_00]: Dude went off and they had what two proble defensive or all pro defense of backs like Yeah, I mean, that that's what he does you play against elite corners.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: He does not give a damn He he Stevy Johnson.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean like that guy.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's just on orthodox and just knows how to win It's just is what it is.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's not fast.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_00]: He ain't gonna win certain shorts
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: You put them out there on game days, never too big for him, never too.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_00]: He only started two games last year, played in 14 games, 35 targets, 22 receptions, 276 yards, and one touchdown, which, and then the playoff touchdown, he's on a two year, eight million dollar deal, six million of that guaranteed.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: He's made right at 19 million dollars for his career.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: We already detailed the kind of depth chart.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he has to pass anybody to make the roster.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: Jordan Walkins, the upside, that's huge.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: No doubt about it.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: But Jordan Walkins has to pass to Marcus Robinson, not the other way around.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I do see the 49ers keeping one of the young books out of Jordan Walkins, Jacob Cowling, Wesley Grimes will Pauline, probably Cowling or Walkins.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: But if they keep two of the young books, that's where to Marcus Robinson's probably going to be
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you do a handshake deal with them, but this is got $6 million guaranteed on two years.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: kind of makes it harder to just say, yeah, you could just kind of move on from home and you know, whatever else, but yeah, Jake, sorry, to Marcus Robinson, that's where he comes in number 47 on our list.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: Damn good player.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: Very, very fun player, very fun player.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see here.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_00]: One of the guys, a bitch, it's so far, just two wide receivers.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: Jacob Cowen at 48 to Marcus Robinson at 47.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: That is it.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_00]: There we go.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, new number.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: That is true.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: I do take Evans is five now.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: Look at me.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: Look at me.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the captain now.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he does not have that number.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: We filled this out way before that.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: We need to update that.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's my bad swaggy.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_00]: What's up, man?
- 24:57[SPEAKER_00]: We know Kyle loves vets.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: He let go some young cats at CB running back.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know all those different things.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: So to Marcus Robbins is not getting cut unless he plays super terrible and preseason and remember Marcus Robbins was one of the best of not the best player of camp last year He is a damn good player.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, what's up Rusty my man out in Man Tika.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: Appreciate your brother.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_00]: Always great to see you here.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: Always great to see you and Do have to remind everybody this Monday pretty excited about this.

- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: Every offense, every defense, every special team snap from three separate angles.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_00]: We got you covered.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: Plus the entire rookie class with multiple breakdowns on some prospects.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: Go check that out, but Monday, come say what's up, man.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good time with the community is incredible.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to have a great time together.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_00]: Now, let's get to number 46.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: Had to take a lead drink, coffee.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go to the defensive side.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_00]: Way too much offensive, wide receiver talk for my liking.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_00]: Tatum Bethume.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: can he finally get in the spot where he was made to play, I'm not so sure, he's an ideal Sam in the Robert Sala Demiko Ryan system, probably not in the, you know, he more is Sam old because
- 26:47[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of the problem.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like you had this spot for them then Fred Warner got hurt.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: So okay now you got to play up to Mike.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_00]: He is not a Mike in a zone scheme coverage Lapses to say to least did improve and coverage consistently through the last year.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: He is a stand-backer in a four three scheme that that's what he is built to do great against the run
- 27:09[SPEAKER_00]: liability in coverage.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of that's just because there's physical traits change directions not really there, but he has improved in coverage, which one 100% give him credit for.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_00]: Now he has experience.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_00]: Great depth piece.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: He's your backup Mike A plus run defender.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just like,
- 27:33[SPEAKER_00]: to be that number three guy, and to be honest with you, like the number three linebacker in a fourth read that I've played much to play about 15 to 20 steps again, not trying to downplay that, but you know, a third of the defensive snaps, and you play on special teams.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: The problem would take them better, and he's terrible at special teams, has been every single year, not gotten better there, gotten better at coverage, but he's just not to change the direction guy, he needs to play in a phone booth,
- 28:01[SPEAKER_00]: Not a soccer field.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_00]: If there's a lot of space, take them struggles.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: And so kick off, kick off for turn, all those things.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_00]: One of the guys responsible for a block pun, you know, two years ago.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_00]: Not a good specialty is player.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: Now, you track his 49ers roster count down numbers as a rookie with 61.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_00]: made the roster last year was 51 this year 46 down five spots now we had to start Mike and you know play how many amony games did he start last year he started eight games played in the 14 he's only 25 years old where's jersey number 48 walking around like the old Fred Warner I love it love it six foot to 29
- 28:42[SPEAKER_00]: played college at UCF University Central Florida, then Florida State, and probably we want the coolest things and I'm going to bring this up every year and just be so freaking pumped.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_00]: Tatum Bethany is great, great, great aunt, is Mary McLeod Bethany.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: One of the greatest humans to ever walk the face of the earth.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, National Women's History Museum.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: She's incredible.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let's start your Bethany Cookman.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_00]: She trained teachers in the African-American community before anybody else did it.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_00]: And amazing, amazing civil rights worker, just unbelievable human being.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's just bad ass first off.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: Now, you back to Tatum, this dude, boarded race in Miami, both parents or teachers, dude, what a bad ass family, dude, um, dad played up Florida A and M. Now, I bet that that was probably, cause like if you don't know the the bad through to Florida A and M, whatever they, the battle, the bands and all that stuff that goes on was, you know, for the Rose Bowl, I would always go to the, sorry, the cotton bowl, and that's like one of the coolest things you'll ever seen in your life, to the best bands ever.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_00]: But dude, yeah, I got a little rivalry there, man.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm curious how that talk with the family.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_00]: But Miami Central High School for Tatum, third team all ACC, all academic all ACC, Bobby Bowden, leadership award, three-year starter at UCF before transferring.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: And whenever he got drafted, he said, he plays like Dre Greenlaw.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: And the run game I agree now he's not perhaps the thumper, but he plays to kill.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know who hits his heart is drink green though.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think anybody does.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_00]: But he's a very physical.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_00]: run stuffing man.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm coming ahead hunter in between the tackles.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_00]: The further you get out, struggles a little bit.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_00]: It just struggles a little bit.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: With teammates with Ronaldo, Greenet, Florida, State, and they were good friends.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_00]: Dean's list award at you.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_00]: Tatum's just, he's cool dude, man.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_00]: Great family, smart leadership.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_00]: Got it, got it, got it.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_00]: There's just limitations to his game for the 22, 26 season and how it's designed.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_00]: You put Tate on Bethoon back in the 90s.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_00]: This dude's starting, he's starting will linebacker for every team of the night, every team.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_00]: But like, you know what I mean, he's the top 15 starting will linebacker.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: You got to cover in today's NFL.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_00]: And that's kind of where he struggles.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_00]: Now he was drafted by the $40 to 2024 seventh round pick 251 he was the seventh from last pick.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_00]: And I go back through that draft, man, it's only two years in he's the best pick of the entire seventh round.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_00]: That habit like there's a couple other players that's like, okay, maybe this guy maybe that guy, but like Tato Bethroon is clearly this best seventh round picks so far could change.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like he belongs in the NFL.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, hello there, the power went out and is back on.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure how many are still with us, but we're gonna just keep rolling.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, sometimes it happens here.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_00]: Did you guys even get the lights just cutting off and just go and pitch black?
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, that's what it is.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so sorry about that.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody, the power just freaking cut out.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: we got a control over that's what it is.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes stuff happens, but it's back on.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_00]: So we were talking about Tatum Bethoon, you know, he is the number, what number is he at?
- 32:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, 46, even though he wearssters, he number 48.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's 46 on this year's roster count down now.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_00]: You just look at kind of what he did last year, Tatum Bethoon, like
- 32:35[SPEAKER_00]: There were points where he was red hot and so planning it's heavy run style teams.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be good and there was a stretch of five consecutive games in the middle part of the season where he had 10 or more tackles like he's a tackling machine.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's the past game that is an issue.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: Now you're replacing Fred Warner.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody wants to replace the the guy.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: Fred Warner's the greatest coverage line back in the history NFL.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: There's going to be a dip there.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: But he's still improved and he had four past passes defense throughout the entire season.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_00]: All of those came after week nine, where it's like, all right, he's starting to understand where to get into the throwing lanes and how to become a little bit more of a factor in the past game, still liability.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: But you love seeing the uptrend with young players like Tatum Petty.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: So if he can figure out special teams or the past game,
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to have a long NFL career.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: If he figures out both, he's a starter.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you want to player that is good at something.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: This, what do you specialize in?
- 33:43[SPEAKER_00]: I stopped the run.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a tackling freaking beast.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_00]: He had 16 tackles against the giant's game.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_00]: By himself.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he is an absolute stud in the run game.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: Now, finish the season, tear it as groin.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I even, I don't know, like, type in it.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like reading it.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like saying it.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_00]: Went back out there and tried to play.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_00]: It was just like, no, dude, you can't move.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it changed the direction was never his thing.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, not a long recovery with that, even though it sounds horrible.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_00]: He's made 1.7 million in his career.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: just kind of the depth chart.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's where it gets difficult, okay?
- 34:25[SPEAKER_00]: Fred Warner, Drake, Greenlaw, that set in stone.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_00]: After that, Luke Gifford, who I know nobody wants to see out there playing linebacker, but the dude started the whole season last year, he's factoring in.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_00]: Nick Martin, Tatum Bethoon, those two guys, and remember Nick Martin earned his starting job and got
- 34:50[SPEAKER_00]: freaking one of the very first special teams plays the game.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_00]: So we never got to see it.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_00]: But he earned that.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_00]: It was like week.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_00]: It was like week five, maybe.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_00]: So that that is there.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, you want Nick Martin to win because Nick Martin just has Nick Martin is designed.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_00]: He was a robber solid graphic.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_00]: Nick Martin is designed for Reheemorse.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: He is your prototypical blitzer
- 35:20[SPEAKER_00]: whatever.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: Tatum's, that's not really a thing.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: He's a run stopper.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_00]: So who's going to win that job?
- 35:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_00]: I really do not know, but Nick Martin, I think has definitely a leg up.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: Now, obviously, Tatum Beth is two years in the league and has played significantly.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Jayden Dugger, he's an outside coming in, Garrett Wallow, played great in the playoffs,
- 35:51[SPEAKER_00]: how you sort that out, I don't know, really don't know, but this is, it makes sense why they traded D winters.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm thankful they did.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like there was just, I struggled with players that never improved in their worst category.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like D winners just can't read.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: He sees it and just doesn't compute.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: Does not compute.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_00]: D winners ascending in coverage, which was his biggest liability.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_00]: Howdy he says at the very least, Bethan could be a viable trade piece of the cut down, but hope he shows out at can't fish as tackler.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there's any way, Tadam Bethan does not make this roster.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you may be a trade, Fred's making it green laws, make it Gifords, make it proble special teamer, Nick Martin's making it.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think Tadam Bethan's making it.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: Dugger, I think you might just keep six guys.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's what they're going to end up doing.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: And so like the number three guy, I want it to be Nick Martin, Tatum Betthoons, not if Robert Sala or Demiko Ryan's or Wonderpred Nick Sornson were the DC still, I would say Tatum Betthoons going to win the same job, where he Morris, he's a wild man.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_00]: He likes that sandbacker to be a wildcard, wildcard.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_00]: Shout out, it's always sunny.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_00]: So I would say that's where that is.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_00]: I love all the connections, jokes, inserts, fries, and guy gift, yeah, that's right.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_00]: It happens.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_00]: I like some of those cobbets, but I want to put their names up here, appreciate you, man.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_00]: You are awesome.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: You are awesome.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_00]: So sorry about the tech issues, but yeah, we're moving on.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_00]: We do, we just, that's what we do.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_00]: We just keep rolling.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_00]: Number 45.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_00]: special team's ace with a lot of experience.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_00]: Does it really contribute my chance?
- 37:40[SPEAKER_00]: Seren Hill comes in number 45.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_00]: He's up 19 spots from last year.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_00]: Seren Hill was number 64 last year.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_00]: He's jumped up to 45.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_00]: Play safety even lined up at corner a couple times last year during preseason training camp.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_00]: Where's Jersey
- 38:04[SPEAKER_00]: played at Jacksonville State.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_00]: Serenil is just your quintessential, every team has these two to three special teams, staples, Luke Gifford, Serenil.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's what it is for the 49ers of Bramboyer.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_00]: Went to Ufala High School in Alabama, crazy large family, six brothers, one sister, two time, all Ohio player, whatever, you know, he transferred there.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_00]: It came out as the two star recruit, Jacksonville State.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_00]: He played a majority of linebacker, got drafted in the fifth round in 2018, same round that the 40 hours took DJ Reed, which, you know, again, look at back at that.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm looking at that round.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, okay, who was the best player?
- 38:45[SPEAKER_00]: DJ Reed was the best player.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: She had a head tried to play roster dynamics with his injury, lost out, goes to Seattle's awesome, goes to Jets.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_00]: Awesome.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_00]: He's still play pretty good.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_00]: But,
- 38:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the bills drafted Sierra Nill on the fifth round 2018, 154 overall.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_00]: And he's just thrived as a special team's player.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_00]: Drafted as a safety didn't really work out too great.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's going into his ninth season.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_00]: He has 2,300 special team snaps incredible.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_00]: Rana 456 and get back to that fifth round.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_00]: Again, my dog woke me up about 3 a.m. this morning.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_00]: So I was doing some fun, deep draft
- 39:26[SPEAKER_00]: Rehashes only 15 players in that fifth round of 2018 are still in the NFL right with Compix I think there were like 34 35 players picked half gone not even in the NFL Serenil's still doing Played on 131 games.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_00]: He's only started once 143 tackles 7 pass break ups no interceptions
- 39:48[SPEAKER_00]: but it's all about the special teams man.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's just it's what it is.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_00]: It had 17 tackles last year special teams just outside the top 10.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he's as somebody that's watched every single special team snacks for the last several seasons.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he's great.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_00]: The 49ers
- 40:16[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have a prescribed like, okay, you got to be in this slot and whatever else and this is your responsibility five and five, whatever else it's just you run.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_00]: to the returners fast as you can.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_00]: He's the middle gunner on a lot of those.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_00]: So you'll see, I mean, he's just kind of flies in there out of control, which is what a gunner's supposed to do.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_00]: But it is kind of frustrating because he got so many almost plays.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_00]: The gunner's responsibility is to break the speed and make the returner go sideways.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_00]: So then everybody else can rally in tackle.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_00]: He does that well, and he does get the tackle.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_00]: He's on two-year, four-million-dollar deal, $2.2 million guaranteed.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_00]: He's made 18.9 million in his career.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_00]: Now, you look at the safety depth chart.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't really factor into it.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_00]: Mountain stuff, Marky Seagull, Jerry Brown, Ashden Davis, those guys are fighting for the jobs.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_00]: Sierra Nill, Hill gets snaps there.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: He's a break-glass in case of emergency.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_00]: That's really
- 41:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's all it is.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's just he's not a gamer for the defense.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_00]: He's just special teams only.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's all he's going to be.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_00]: And that's okay.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, yeah, anybody talk about PA.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: I ain't covering that here.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: There's lots of other shows and I could make a video say it's so it's so just dropped into video.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm muted that on every single social media that I have and that's my job.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: any touching it with the 20 foot pull.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry guys, but there are other people that will and you'll be able to get that feel from all those people.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: Just hope somebody in his lives help them.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's really all I care.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: Howdy right here.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Ash and Davis may give Neil a run for the money at that gunner spot.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_00]: Way cheaper.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_00]: Astadavis has a long history with Brandt Poir.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't be upset to be honest with you.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like Astadavis contributes way more as a safety spot.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_00]: And that is the spot where you could get, you could free up a whole other roster spot.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_00]: If Astadavis makes this roster, he helps you at safety, and he helps you at special teams.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're not wrong.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_00]: I really like fashion days.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_00]: I've been, I've been, go get this guy for a long time, for a long time.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_00]: Now, our last player on today's roster countdown in the one that, you know, figures in our title, 49ers highest upside rookie, number 44, Ephesians Price-Suck.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_00]: Upside, upside, upside, speed and length are off the charts.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_00]: This is how you design a zone corner in today's cover three cover six scheme.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_00]: Is he there yet?
- 43:01[SPEAKER_00]: Hell no, not even close.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_00]: If I'm going to be honest with you.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_00]: Not just wrapping in the fourth round, pick 139 overall.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's wearing jersey number 41.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_00]: Ruff Look 6396 he's only 23 years old played at Arizona for two seasons then transferred to Washington he followed jet fish from Arizona loyalty guy.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_00]: Sticker with this coach I love that another senior bull stand out.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_00]: Born and raised in California with the bishop all men high school was a wide receiver and corner back four star recruit.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_00]: awesome with the huskies flash you know speed leaked all those things you go through the tape and we have some tape breakdowns of the rookie up on the 40s rush.com in our patreon page It's rough like from a technique standpoint.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like what are you doing?
- 43:49[SPEAKER_00]: he puts himself in the worst possible situations all the time with his footwork.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: His offhand jam is so bad which is crazy because he's got the length.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: He just uses the wrong handle all the time.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's offhand because a lot of times he'll guess wrong with his right then open up cross body which that sells your hips and your shoulders now you fight against yourself.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like he just needs to be more patient and work on his technique
- 44:18[SPEAKER_00]: He has all the traits you want, which I love.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_00]: Day three picks, I either want you to be a badass football player with horrible traits, or I want you to be elite traits.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_00]: It just haven't figured it out yet.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like those are the two prototypes that I want to spend day three draft capital on.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_00]: Featured price stock is the latter, right?
- 44:38[SPEAKER_00]: All the elite traits in the world, just say figured it out yet.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: If you figures it out, all right.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_00]: Now we're cooking with some grease.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_00]: because it's there.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_00]: Dade Broogler had a fourth round, great autumn, height, length, speed, strider, physical, it just guesses that that's a thing, man.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_00]: It puts himself for the worst spots, but he's such an athlete that at the college level, even pack 12, I guess, to be 10 now.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_00]: He's in a horrible spot and it's just like, whoa, dude, you're completely out of phase.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_00]: You are burnt toast and then he recovers and makes a play because of his speed, because of his link.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_00]: So you just have to get him to stop losing early.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_00]: Very similar to Alfred Collins, like, dude, stop losing early and you're going to be great.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's very easy to see the latter part of the play.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_00]: He dominates.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_00]: He just puts himself in such a hole to start out
- 45:35[SPEAKER_00]: Washington coaching staff said that he loves to be coached hard, durable 42 starts perfect zone corner.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_00]: He's played 49 games, 42 starts, 170 combined tackles, 20 pass breakups, only one interception.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_00]: So he's got the long arms and he makes it hard on quarterbacks and wide receivers, not a ball skills guide with turnovers.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_00]: This is not what he is, but Niners kind of go after those guys.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_00]: All the tools in the world.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_00]: This is a Raheem Morris.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_00]: type pick.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's just what it is.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: Fun, fun player.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_00]: Now, where is he on the depth chart?
- 46:12[SPEAKER_00]: He's making the roster.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_00]: Fourth round picks make the roster.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_00]: So you don't have to worry about that with the Ephesians price sock.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_00]: Demo, Ronaldo, Green Upton, Stout.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_00]: Those three, right.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm in pin.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_00]: Ephesians price sock.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_00]: That's a long term play.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_00]: Is he the number four corner that comes in first at the outside spot?
- 46:29[SPEAKER_00]: Or is it to where a loser who had that spot last year's in eight Hobbes?
- 46:32[SPEAKER_00]: Is
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: Cornerback room's got depth, and I just love going through these positions to be like through their step, their step, their step, their step, and there is a lot of depth throughout the entirety of the roster besides a few positions, safety, there's not tight end, is the worst running back, there is not.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_00]: Outside of that, pretty much all the positions have pretty damn good depth.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_00]: If all your defense amends are healthy, I think you got depth there, but there's three
- 47:00[SPEAKER_00]: Cornerback room, you returned to everybody, added price, sock, Hobbs, and Jack Jones.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_00]: And we had a comment earlier that I started because I knew we were gonna talk corners at the end of the show, shout out to Howard.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_00]: Howard Parsons, the man.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_00]: He says, do you think Jacob Robinson can be converted into a free safety to replace Brown or the young guy?
- 47:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I always say that if you play corner, you usually play safety.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_00]: There's only a few guys that can not.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_00]: And it has to do with the run game
- 47:30[SPEAKER_00]: Jacob Robinson might be the worst run defender on the team came in small came in kind of soft whatever it came to that at PYU he's a ball skills kind of a cat corner guy just pounces all over the ball when it's in the air not a good tackler.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you could convert Jacob Robinson to even a slot corner which is what he's built as but his lack of physicality and
- 47:58[SPEAKER_00]: that has to shift.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_00]: The nighters played them exclusively at outside corner for the most part.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_00]: We just did a Jacob Robin episode.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_00]: He was on our last countdown video.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_00]: I love the kid.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_00]: We had him on the show.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_00]: He was awesome.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_00]: He's got to learn to be physical.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_00]: The coverage he's gotten spades, but you can't be a liability in the run game in this scheme.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's why I don't think that you could convert him to safety because the nighters don't do a traditional cover one.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_00]: You got to come up and play.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's why they draft all these strong safeties in the scheme.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's just what it is Anyway, and do with that what you with what you will I love it would watch these special teams is exciting not crunchy.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_00]: We had nine straight years of just horrid horrible terrible Special teams.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, and just you were just waiting once again to ruin something
- 48:52[SPEAKER_00]: Last year was the first year we've had quality special teams.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_00]: It really, really is.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I do like it.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_00]: I really, really do it.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_00]: I look in right here.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think Jacob Robinson deserves real consideration to make the roster.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_00]: They like him.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_00]: They made him a priority.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_00]: They paid him good money.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_00]: the coaching staff coach Brown, uh, worked with him and recruited him and Jacob Robinson talked about that's why he chose the 40 hours.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: He had like four other offers.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_00]: He chose the nighters because coach Brown was the coach, the corner coach.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that that's their relationship with them.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_00]: They like him.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_00]: He's got to prove he could be physical and, you know, he snapped his wrist like the last drive of the last preseason game.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_00]: He's got to overcome that too.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_00]: But, so yeah, that's what we've got.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_00]: So our roster countdown, 44 Ephesians prize sock, love that kid, 45 Sierra Niel, 46 Tatum Bethoon, 47 to Marcus Robinson, and number 48 Jacob Cowley.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_00]: Lot a lot of positives, but we'll see.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_00]: These are back end of the roster 53 guys that have to prove, they can go up and get there.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_00]: And if they do that,
- 50:04[SPEAKER_00]: Who stopped with us now?
- 50:05[SPEAKER_00]: Man, if these back into the roster players step up, the Niners are going to see huge dividends in debt because today's NFL not for long.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_00]: The injuries we all know about it, there's going to come a time where you rely on these guys.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_00]: Can they be there?
- 50:23[SPEAKER_00]: when the 49ers call.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_00]: I sure has had coke so when I appreciate you guys not only people with me, the start of the show through the tech issues, the audio crowds, they're not gonna know about this.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_00]: But for all your live listeners, forget iron, you guys are the freaking MVP, do the gold helmets of the 49ers rush podcast, stick it with us after the freaking power without I appreciate you guys.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_00]: But that's gonna do it for us today's show.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_00]: And for us, in the 49ers rush, as always, stay strong, faithful.
