- 0:00Speaker 1: I'll talk about the play that it appeared Julio Rodriguez
- 0:03Speaker 1: got hurt. I could talk about the Pieso Press sandwich
- 0:06Speaker 1: I had in the fourth inning that was pretty good
- 0:09Speaker 1: behind third base and people again looking at me, going
- 0:11Speaker 1: where did you get that? What concession stand has that
- 0:15Speaker 1: you can bring it in? If you apparently you can't
- 0:18Speaker 1: bring it in in its own bag has to be unbagged. Ah,
- 0:22Speaker 1: if you're a fan going it so, I don't want
- 0:24Speaker 1: the Mariners to be, hey, why are you sending people
- 0:26Speaker 1: down here with full picnic baskets? And you can't do that.
- 0:29Speaker 1: They have to be individually wrapped and I guess carried in.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I'm quite sure what the ruling end of that. I
- 0:38Speaker 1: don't know how much we'll talk about this, but we'll
- 0:40Speaker 1: talk about this supplemental draft that everyone's presuming is going
- 0:43Speaker 1: to happen for Brendan Soresby. I still don't think that's
- 0:46Speaker 1: a done deal. The NFL has to approve it. We'll
- 0:49Speaker 1: talk to you about when they have to approve it.
- 0:50Speaker 1: By he's having a pro day a high school field
- 0:55Speaker 1: in Texas. There are a lot of suppositions going on
- 0:59Speaker 1: with Brendan Soor being the NFL, and I'm not quite
- 1:01Speaker 1: sold that all of it's going to go down as
- 1:04Speaker 1: he and his agent are trying to purport in national
- 1:07Speaker 1: stories coming out eleven o'clock. I have a keyword for
- 1:10Speaker 1: it to enter chances. I'd win twenty five hundred dollars
- 1:12Speaker 1: in our national two hundred and fifty k USA giveaway.
- 1:15Speaker 1: We do it every weekday at eleven am, and at
- 1:17Speaker 1: two pm, and at five pm, and Chuck does it
- 1:19Speaker 1: at eight am on our website nine through three KGr
- 1:23Speaker 1: dot com. We're celebrating the US Open beginning today by
- 1:26Speaker 1: having local golf stars in our studio today at eleven o'clock.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Roosevelt High School senior Quinn Burwell and Roosevelt junior Carson
- 1:34Speaker 1: Church are going to be here with their coach, Max Rose,
- 1:37Speaker 1: Roosevelt High School golf coach. Both Quinn and Carson have
- 1:41Speaker 1: qualified for the seventy eighth US Junior Amateur Championship in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
- 1:45Speaker 2: That's going to be at the end of July. That's
- 1:48Speaker 2: a really cool deal.
- 1:49Speaker 1: There's only two hundred and sixty four qualifiers worldwide to
- 1:52Speaker 1: get in to the US Junior Amateur, and two of
- 1:57Speaker 1: them are from the same high school. And when I
- 1:59Speaker 1: found this, I was like, hey, you guys want to
- 2:01Speaker 1: come in and talk about on the radio. But eleven
- 2:03Speaker 1: o'clock is school time, right Well, Roosevelt graduated last night.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Quinn might be a little tired, the senior.
- 2:10Speaker 2: A little he's exhausted his eyes. He's probably sleep right now.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I bet Coach Rose is going to waking him
- 2:16Speaker 1: up somewhere, picking him up to bring him down here
- 2:18Speaker 1: to Elliott Bay. But thank the guys, I will thank
- 2:20Speaker 1: him again for coming, especially Quinn for coming in the morning.
- 2:23Speaker 1: After his graduation from Roosevelt High School, he's heading to
- 2:27Speaker 1: Santa Clara. He's committed to golf for them as Ian
- 2:30Speaker 1: and I joked yesterday that's not going to be too
- 2:32Speaker 1: hard to golf in Santa Clara, California while going to
- 2:35Speaker 1: school at a beautiful campus in Santa Clara. The junior
- 2:40Speaker 1: Carson Church is uncommitted so far, but having qualified for
- 2:44Speaker 1: the Junior Amateur, I bet he might get some golf
- 2:47Speaker 1: offers if he doesn't already have. We'll talk to them
- 2:49Speaker 1: at eleven o'clock. It's part of our Chris and I
- 2:51Speaker 1: have a mission here, or at least we have this
- 2:53Speaker 1: idea that we want to really grow into something about
- 2:56Speaker 1: high school sports on Fridays in the fall, mainly center
- 3:00Speaker 1: around high school football and perhaps coaches being a centerpiece
- 3:04Speaker 1: of that. Maybe a game of the week we highlight
- 3:07Speaker 1: on a Friday as part of our Football Friday we
- 3:09Speaker 1: do here on KJR and just to give some exposure
- 3:12Speaker 1: to these programs and these coaches and these players and
- 3:16Speaker 1: a market, Let's face it is dominated by the Seahawks
- 3:18Speaker 1: and the Huskies, and during the fall, there are many, many,
- 3:22Speaker 1: many people that listen to us who are into high
- 3:25Speaker 1: school football, but because we live in an NFL and
- 3:28Speaker 1: a major, big ten school town, don't quite get the
- 3:32Speaker 1: recognition and exposure that you would in some other town.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I mean, it's a big deal. I officiate high school
- 3:39Speaker 1: football games and there are events. I mean I've gone
- 3:42Speaker 1: to some and cover and officiated some really top notch games.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Skyline Bellvue last year was one of the better games
- 3:49Speaker 1: I've been officiating since I was in the Bay Area
- 3:51Speaker 1: twenty five years ago. And that Skyline Bellvue game I
- 3:53Speaker 1: officiated at Skyline last October was one of the best
- 3:57Speaker 1: games I've ever officiated. It was awesome. It ended on
- 4:00Speaker 1: the final play, but we're going to drive to do
- 4:03Speaker 1: that in the fall. And I've got some coaching friends
- 4:06Speaker 1: and people who have connections with coaches that we're hoping
- 4:09Speaker 1: to get on the show. But today, not just football,
- 4:11Speaker 1: we can highlight two golfers from the same high school
- 4:15Speaker 1: golf program here in Seattle, here in the US junior
- 4:17Speaker 1: am two of only two hundred and sixty four junior
- 4:20Speaker 1: golfers in the world to qualify for this tournament. So
- 4:23Speaker 1: that's what we're going to get the opportunity to do.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Eleven thirty the coming Dodge Tech signed four nine, four
- 4:28Speaker 1: to five one.
- 4:28Speaker 2: As we do every day.
- 4:30Speaker 1: At that time, Chris and I were talking about this
- 4:32Speaker 1: subject and Kirk because yeah, we should probably talk about
- 4:35Speaker 1: this about Brendan Soresby having a pro day. It's not
- 4:39Speaker 1: a pro day per se. It is like a amateur
- 4:42Speaker 1: amateur pro day because for first of all, it's at
- 4:44Speaker 1: a high school Texas. Second is the one I have
- 4:48Speaker 1: anything to do with a pro day for a guy
- 4:49Speaker 1: who never played for him and they just sent away
- 4:51Speaker 1: and said your college career is over. So he's going
- 4:53Speaker 1: to have a pro day schedule for South Lake, Texas,
- 4:57Speaker 1: a high school in South Lake, Texas, and it's July
- 5:01Speaker 1: the tenth, and so Pete Samill was on ESPN yesterday
- 5:04Speaker 1: on national television with that Pat McAfee Worldwide Wrestling show
- 5:10Speaker 1: he has. Whatever time of the day I come in
- 5:13Speaker 1: here sometimes and that's on on the television. I'm like, whoo,
- 5:15Speaker 1: what the team doesn't have to be on. I certainly
- 5:19Speaker 1: don't watching that guy. But Pete Damill was on there
- 5:23Speaker 1: yesterday saying that he's talked to a few NFL teams
- 5:26Speaker 1: and that he Pete Samill believes that all thirty two
- 5:29Speaker 1: teams will be at this pro day at a high
- 5:31Speaker 1: school in Texas on July tenth. There's a ton of
- 5:35Speaker 1: suppositions here for that even to be a story. One
- 5:37Speaker 1: is well, they'll even be a supplemental draft. The NFL
- 5:42Speaker 1: does not have to approve this, and in fact, there
- 5:45Speaker 1: has not been an NFL supplemental draft since twenty twenty three.
- 5:50Speaker 1: I think they are going to have one because they're
- 5:52Speaker 1: going to get the league doesn't want to get sued
- 5:53Speaker 1: by denying soresby the opportunity for employment. But that twenty
- 5:59Speaker 1: twenty three last supplemento draft, no one got picked in
- 6:02Speaker 1: it just because we have a supplemental draft in the NFL.
- 6:04Speaker 1: If we do, which is one supposition. If we do,
- 6:07Speaker 1: doesn't mean anyone's gonna pick him, Chris. What's gonna stop
- 6:11Speaker 1: a team from saying, you know what, I'm not gonna
- 6:12Speaker 1: give up a pick in one of my draft picks
- 6:15Speaker 1: in any round of next year's draft. Let's just no
- 6:17Speaker 1: one's gonna draft him. We'll just pick him up as
- 6:19Speaker 1: a street free agent off the street and sign him
- 6:21Speaker 1: for whatever deal we want to without losing any draft
- 6:23Speaker 1: pick compensation.
- 6:24Speaker 2: That's probably the likely response. But then again, if you're
- 6:28Speaker 2: I don't know, I can't think of a team that would.
- 6:30Speaker 2: But there's probably a team out there. There's like seventh round, Yeah,
- 6:32Speaker 2: take two forty. Why not? You know it's not gonna
- 6:35Speaker 2: cost me much if he doesn't make the roster, right,
- 6:38Speaker 2: and I know it's cheaper to just going, you know, undrafted.
- 6:41Speaker 2: You don't have to worry about anything. But there might
- 6:43Speaker 2: be a team that's like, it's a quarterback. As you
- 6:45Speaker 2: told me, you know, teams need quarterbacks, Like that's kind
- 6:48Speaker 2: of the position that you want to take a risk
- 6:51Speaker 2: seventh round. Sure, what the hell had a little gambling issue,
- 6:56Speaker 2: We'll bring him in. Maybe he can. Maybe it's fixed.
- 6:59Speaker 2: He's gone through the say all the right catchphrases words
- 7:02Speaker 2: that means, oh, he's done the work. He's put in
- 7:05Speaker 2: the work to earn a roster spot. Good luck, buddy.
- 7:08Speaker 2: There could be a team that might do that. I
- 7:11Speaker 2: am probably saying no, but I honestly have never talked
- 7:14Speaker 2: to an executive and gauge their opinions on what they
- 7:17Speaker 2: look at or an owner and how they want to
- 7:19Speaker 2: view players and what player fits there. At the end
- 7:22Speaker 2: of the day, if you could play ball, let's say
- 7:24Speaker 2: he lights up the pro day. Let's see teams go
- 7:26Speaker 2: and it'll be scripted. It'll be something good. You know,
- 7:31Speaker 2: no defenders coach speak. He talks to the coaches. He's
- 7:34Speaker 2: very respectful, and they're like, maybe this guy, you know,
- 7:37Speaker 2: he made a mistake nine thousand mistakes. But my point is,
- 7:40Speaker 2: could there be a team that really gives them a shot.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I won't say there's zero. There's always a chance. As
- 7:46Speaker 2: you mentioned, Greg, players in the NFL are playing and
- 7:50Speaker 2: they've done far worse things, whether it's domestic, you name it.
- 7:53Speaker 2: They've done things. It's like, wow, and he's on a
- 7:55Speaker 2: roster and they're paying them millions, So a couple hundred
- 7:59Speaker 2: thousand betting Are you clean, sir? Can you come through
- 8:03Speaker 2: the football? We'll take you. I don't know when will
- 8:06Speaker 2: take you, but we might draft you.
- 8:10Speaker 1: So if the NFL does approve a supplemental draft, it
- 8:15Speaker 1: has to happen by July sixteenth. There are rules that
- 8:18Speaker 1: say it has to happen no later than one week
- 8:19Speaker 1: before the start of training camps in NFL. This year,
- 8:22Speaker 1: the first training camp start July twenty third. You heard
- 8:24Speaker 1: me mention a minute ago. The Seahawks begin on July
- 8:27Speaker 1: twenty fifth, so the draft would have to happen by
- 8:31Speaker 1: July sixteenth. The league has to approve a player into
- 8:34Speaker 1: a supplemental draft no later than ten days before the
- 8:38Speaker 1: draft if there is a supplemental draft, which means July sixth.
- 8:42Speaker 1: That is why this pro day that is an agent
- 8:44Speaker 1: has scheduled is for July the tenth, after the last
- 8:47Speaker 1: date of which the league would have had to make
- 8:49Speaker 1: a decision on whether it even have a draft. Having
- 8:52Speaker 1: a pro day at a high school in Texas on
- 8:54Speaker 1: July tenth, right before the draft is smart because then
- 8:56Speaker 1: you get the momentum of whatever and he's gonna look
- 8:59Speaker 1: great because he's throwing again to guys that he throws
- 9:02Speaker 1: with in the Parkers' backyard. And so that's six days
- 9:06Speaker 1: before what the supplemental draft would be. And Chris's point
- 9:09Speaker 1: is a good one. It's the quarterback position, and somebody
- 9:12Speaker 1: in the league is going to think they've found an
- 9:13Speaker 1: edge on a quarterback and they can get one for
- 9:15Speaker 1: a late round pick. They will probably take a flyer
- 9:18Speaker 1: on him. But again I'm not convinced that this happens either.
- 9:21Speaker 1: So just to let you know a little bit how
- 9:23Speaker 1: sports journalism works. If you don't know already, Pete Samill
- 9:27Speaker 1: when he goes on national television and says this stuff, well,
- 9:30Speaker 1: where's he getting it from? Pete Samill covers college football.
- 9:33Speaker 1: He doesn't know what an NFL team's going to do.
- 9:35Speaker 1: He's not talking to every executive in the NFL. He's
- 9:39Speaker 1: getting his information from the agent of the player, who,
- 9:42Speaker 1: of course, isn't his best interest to promote the likelihood
- 9:46Speaker 1: of NFL teams one come into a pro day and
- 9:49Speaker 1: two drafting him in three the NFL approving said draft.
- 9:54Speaker 1: There are a lot of subpositions. Here is what I'm
- 9:55Speaker 1: trying to say, and none of them are automatics. But
- 10:00Speaker 1: just to let you know where the source of this
- 10:02Speaker 1: stuff is. It's not like nflgms are calling Pete family
- 10:04Speaker 1: and saying, Hey, I'm going to come to Brandon Sorosby's
- 10:07Speaker 1: in the middle of my only vacation time. By the way,
- 10:10Speaker 1: in an NFL calendar, I'm going to leave my wife
- 10:12Speaker 1: and kids and I'm going to go to Southfield, Texas
- 10:15Speaker 1: or whatever the hell I just said. It was south Lake,
- 10:17Speaker 1: Texas to a pro day for a guy who's been
- 10:21Speaker 1: kicked out of college football. But again, that's a leap
- 10:24Speaker 1: of supposition there that that is even going to happen.
- 10:27Speaker 1: But when you read though and hear those stories, that's
- 10:30Speaker 1: where they come from. And the agent's job is to
- 10:33Speaker 1: make as much money as he can for his client
- 10:35Speaker 1: who's paying him to make as much money as he can.
- 10:38Speaker 1: So you're going to hear stories about the NFL is
- 10:41Speaker 1: going gag over Brendan Soersby. I'm just not buying it.
- 10:45Speaker 1: You're going to probably hear the stories that the Seahawks
- 10:47Speaker 1: are involved. I think there's already one in the paper today.
- 10:51Speaker 1: But yes, we have talked about John Schneider. He doesn't
- 10:55Speaker 1: let any event of a player in scouting go by
- 10:58Speaker 1: without the Seahawks being involved, just to make sure they're involved.
- 11:01Speaker 1: It would not surprise me if he sent somebody. It
- 11:03Speaker 1: would surprise me if he showed up himself on his
- 11:05Speaker 1: only vacation block of this. But it will not surprise
- 11:08Speaker 1: me if the Seahawks will represent it if there, in
- 11:09Speaker 1: fact is a pro day but four nine four five
- 11:14Speaker 1: one the komodadge tech line. One do you think there
- 11:17Speaker 1: will be a supplemental draft so the NFL even to
- 11:19Speaker 1: prove it?
- 11:20Speaker 2: Two?
- 11:20Speaker 1: Do you think any NFL team will use a draft
- 11:22Speaker 1: pick that'll have to cost them a pick in the
- 11:24Speaker 1: regular draft next spring? Remember we talked about the rules
- 11:26Speaker 1: of the supplemental draft the other day. You use a
- 11:28Speaker 1: fifth round pick in the supplemental draft, you lose a
- 11:30Speaker 1: fifth round pick next spring. Do you think a team's
- 11:33Speaker 1: gonna do that? And Three would you think the Seahawks
- 11:37Speaker 1: would even have any interest at all? I will tell
- 11:38Speaker 1: you I think there is zero chance the Seahawks would
- 11:41Speaker 1: ever bring that guy in the Mike McDonald's locker room.
- 11:43Speaker 2: That I think that is the one team that I'm
- 11:45Speaker 2: just like, no chance, no.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Way a coach that big on culture whose brotherhood is
- 11:50Speaker 1: the reason why the players say is why they won
- 11:53Speaker 1: the Super Bowl, is not bringing a guy. I mean,
- 11:56Speaker 1: NFL players can read papers and Internet. They know who
- 11:59Speaker 1: this dude is is and what he did. And Mike
- 12:02Speaker 1: McDonald absolutely is on the pulse of that locker room
- 12:06Speaker 1: and what they like and don't like and what they're
- 12:08Speaker 1: for and not for. He ain't upsetting that Apple cut
- 12:12Speaker 1: that just won the Super Bowl by bringing this cat
- 12:14Speaker 1: in in my mind. But part of John Schneyder's job
- 12:18Speaker 1: is to keep up appearances and keep up tabs on
- 12:21Speaker 1: what's going on around the league. That's why he went
- 12:23Speaker 1: to Josh Allen's pro day at Wyoming famously while Russell
- 12:26Speaker 1: Wilson was in his prime here in Seattle four nine,
- 12:28Speaker 1: four or five one. You're a feeling on this whole thing.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I have a feeling you're going to say the Seahawks
- 12:33Speaker 1: need to stay. I hope my team here in Seattle
- 12:36Speaker 1: stays clear of this whole issue. But again, just to
- 12:38Speaker 1: let you know, no team has to draft him. It's
- 12:41Speaker 1: been twenty nineteen since the last player was taken in
- 12:44Speaker 1: a supplemental draft. Jalen Thompson, a safety. Chris said that
- 12:48Speaker 1: he remembers from Washington State went to the Arizona Cardinals.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Has to become a good player for them. A player
- 12:54Speaker 1: cannot just bypass a regular draft and get into a
- 12:56Speaker 1: supplemental draft. There have to be extenuating reasons why he
- 12:58Speaker 1: couldn't qualify for the regular draft. It's often in a
- 13:01Speaker 1: it's often eligibility issues with the NCAAA, as it is
- 13:04Speaker 1: in this case when Soresby decided he's not playing college
- 13:08Speaker 1: football after all, that came after the regular draft declaring period.
- 13:12Speaker 1: So here we are, four nine, four to five one.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Your opinions on that, Your opinions on the Mariners and
- 13:17Speaker 1: what they do next, because we're going to talk about
- 13:19Speaker 1: what I saw at the yard last night. You can't
- 13:21Speaker 1: go to a Mariner game these days about something happening.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I mean something out of the ordinary and something that
- 13:26Speaker 1: unusual happened last night when I saw Julio Rodriguez race
- 13:29Speaker 1: right in front of me to catch a fly ball.
- 13:30Speaker 1: I'll talk about that, and at eleven o'clock we'll talk golf.
- 13:33Speaker 1: We'll have two Roosevelt High School golfers here in Seattle
- 13:37Speaker 1: who are have qualified for the Union US Junior Amateur
- 13:40Speaker 1: and their coach will be in here in the studio.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Up next US Open Golf Update on ninety three point
- 13:45Speaker 1: three KJRFN. Welcome back to the show, Greg Belt, Christopher
- 13:56Speaker 1: Kid with you usual. We are every day ten to
- 13:58Speaker 1: noon a ninety three point three KJRFM. At eleven o'clock
- 14:01Speaker 1: we're gonna have Roosevelt High School senior golfer Quinn Burwell,
- 14:04Speaker 1: he just graduated last night. Congrats to Quinn and Roosevelt
- 14:07Speaker 1: junior golfer Carson Church. Both qualified for the US Junior
- 14:11Speaker 1: Amateur Championship next month. There are two hundred and sixty
- 14:14Speaker 1: four qualifiers worldwide. Two of them came from the same
- 14:17Speaker 1: high school here in Seattle. We'll talk to them and
- 14:19Speaker 1: their coach, Max Rose, at eleven o'clock here in the
- 14:21Speaker 1: studio live.
- 14:24Speaker 2: The US Open started today.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Yes, I mistakenly read the start time for Scotti Scheffler,
- 14:28Speaker 1: who you just heard on the update is already three
- 14:30Speaker 1: over with a double bogie on eight. He's teed off
- 14:33Speaker 1: after seven o'clock this morning. I was reading his tea
- 14:35Speaker 1: time for Friday tomorrow after eleven o'clock Seattle time. So
- 14:39Speaker 1: thank you. The text line lets you know, don't they.
- 14:42Speaker 1: It's nice to know they're listening.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Oh hey, you we found that out yesterday. Greg. We
- 14:47Speaker 2: had Applebee's should have been Chili's and baby back. You know,
- 14:51Speaker 2: we can go on and on about the text line
- 14:53Speaker 2: will put you in place.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Okay, So thank you for being vigilant. I want to
- 14:57Speaker 1: be accurate in my information, so thank you for that.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I said. The marriage game last night, We're sitting right
- 15:02Speaker 1: behind third base, perfect night. The other twenty eight thousand
- 15:05Speaker 1: people there. The weather was just idyllic. Chris had gone
- 15:08Speaker 1: the night before, got the same deal with about the
- 15:10Speaker 1: same number of people there. Although Chris got to see
- 15:12Speaker 1: a win, I got to see. Sorry, Greg, I didn't
- 15:15Speaker 1: want to run that in, but you brought it up,
- 15:17Speaker 1: not me. So with that being said, you know, tough Lugreg.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Next time, though, next time we both got to see
- 15:22Speaker 1: injuries unfortunately, and Randy Rosrena went on the injured list
- 15:26Speaker 1: left footer on Monday. Right before the game last night,
- 15:30Speaker 1: top of the six two on Orioles, Julio Rodriguez is
- 15:33Speaker 1: zooming at us from center field to left center and
- 15:36Speaker 1: he gets He's so fast that he got to this
- 15:38Speaker 1: line drive that looked like it might be a double
- 15:41Speaker 1: in plenty of time. He's there, he's making the catch.
- 15:44Speaker 1: It as he makes the catch, he jumps, he's a
- 15:46Speaker 1: little hop and all of us said, well, that was
- 15:49Speaker 1: kind of showy and kind of unnecessary actually, because he
- 15:52Speaker 1: was already there. Even my daughter twenty three of the
- 15:55Speaker 1: ensign from the coast Guard there's no ton about baseball.
- 15:58Speaker 1: College rower and hockey player said why did he jump?
- 16:01Speaker 1: He was already there, looked pretty though they had smoke
- 16:03Speaker 1: come out of the behind the walls and celebrate the catch,
- 16:07Speaker 1: and it did look fancy, but it was peculiar. It
- 16:10Speaker 1: turns out that's the end the play of the Peers
- 16:13Speaker 1: that he injured his hamstring. He came out of the
- 16:16Speaker 1: game at the top of that was the top of
- 16:18Speaker 1: the sixth. He struck out feebly in the bottom of
- 16:22Speaker 1: the sixth and just waved. He struck out earlier in
- 16:25Speaker 1: the game, was first at bet the same way, sandwiched
- 16:28Speaker 1: around the double that we talked about at the headlines.
- 16:30Speaker 1: He had two really weak looking strikeouts. The second one
- 16:33Speaker 1: was after this jump where he apparently hurt himself. So
- 16:37Speaker 1: you're in the yard and we didn't know I kind
- 16:41Speaker 1: of it was peculiar that number ten was in center
- 16:44Speaker 1: field and the seventh inning, but I didn't think much
- 16:47Speaker 1: of it. It was during the warm ups between ennings and
- 16:49Speaker 1: we're talking and hanging out and whatever. Well, ten, of
- 16:51Speaker 1: course is Victor Roblaz who had started in right field,
- 16:54Speaker 1: but I noticed he was in center and I didn't
- 16:56Speaker 1: it kind of did a double take, but I didn't
- 16:57Speaker 1: think any more of it. An the eighth inning, with
- 17:01Speaker 1: the game on the line, rob Reschneider comes up and
- 17:03Speaker 1: I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa, he's in the third spot
- 17:05Speaker 1: for Rodriguez. When you're at the yard, they don't announce
- 17:08Speaker 1: the injuries. They don't say Rodriguez out of the game
- 17:12Speaker 1: calf like they do in the press box. So all
- 17:15Speaker 1: of us in section one forty two are like, what
- 17:17Speaker 1: the hell is going on?
- 17:19Speaker 2: Is this handedness?
- 17:20Speaker 1: Again? Is this analytics?
- 17:22Speaker 2: Is this ipeed?
- 17:23Speaker 1: What Refschneider one forty four batting average is in the
- 17:27Speaker 1: game with the game on the line. What are we
- 17:29Speaker 1: doing here? How why is he Well turns out he
- 17:31Speaker 1: had been in the game the previous inning because he
- 17:33Speaker 1: went into the right field when everybody moved the center
- 17:35Speaker 1: when they took Rodriguez out, but we didn't see that,
- 17:37Speaker 1: didn't notice that, and nobody in section one forty two
- 17:39Speaker 1: noticed it either.
- 17:40Speaker 2: We were all gassed.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Of course, ref Schneider struck out looking because that's what
- 17:45Speaker 1: his one forty batting average said he's.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Probably gonna do.
- 17:49Speaker 1: And then, thankfully, my man, great friend of mine for
- 17:52Speaker 1: a long time, since I covered the Mariner's day to
- 17:54Speaker 1: day twenty years ago, Tim Heavley, the PR director and
- 17:57Speaker 1: vice president for the marriage sent me a note saying
- 18:00Speaker 1: Rodriguez had left the game an ending earlier. Basically, he
- 18:02Speaker 1: was being nice to say, wy don't you wake up
- 18:04Speaker 1: and watch the game with my family and my daughter
- 18:08Speaker 1: and my son, And I hadn't. It's good having a
- 18:10Speaker 1: good time. But yes, that's why, because Rodriguez had left
- 18:14Speaker 1: the game. He was and all of you on television
- 18:17Speaker 1: saw that he was talking to a trainer in the
- 18:19Speaker 1: dugout and then was escorted into the clubhouse and then
- 18:22Speaker 1: they make the defensive switch for that inning. So yeah,
- 18:25Speaker 1: I was totally unaware. And res Schneider, but if you
- 18:28Speaker 1: got Reschneider and Connor Joe the four a player with
- 18:32Speaker 1: two first names, you rely on them to win your game,
- 18:35Speaker 1: You're going to get a five to three loss, get
- 18:37Speaker 1: you back to back home runs on consecutive pitches in
- 18:39Speaker 1: the ninth. Notwithstanding, Connor Joe struck out twice looking the
- 18:44Speaker 1: one time he hit the ball last night, it was
- 18:46Speaker 1: a single to center field. The center fielder misplayed it
- 18:49Speaker 1: all almost all the way the wall, and then Connor
- 18:52Speaker 1: Joe has an easy double and he's running through second
- 18:54Speaker 1: and going to third, and he was out from me
- 18:57Speaker 1: to you. As Vince Calley used to say all the time,
- 19:00Speaker 1: it looked like he was pulling a tractor trailer behind
- 19:02Speaker 1: him when he got past second base and he was
- 19:04Speaker 1: out by a mile. That was the one time Connor
- 19:07Speaker 1: Joe did do anything. My son and I are big
- 19:09Speaker 1: Pirates fans. I grew up and born just west of
- 19:11Speaker 1: Three River Stadium, so he's become a Pirate fan by birth.
- 19:15Speaker 1: And Connor Joe is infamous in Pittsburgh because he played
- 19:19Speaker 1: many years and on many bad teams and didn't do
- 19:22Speaker 1: really great doing it. And my son was just like, yeah,
- 19:25Speaker 1: Pittsburgh loves you, yelling at him as he was in
- 19:28Speaker 1: left field.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Anyway, the.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Connor Joe is in the game because he had started
- 19:36Speaker 1: when he just got off a plane from Salt Lake.
- 19:38Speaker 1: He was with the Triple A Roniers who were in
- 19:40Speaker 1: Salt Lake City. And you remember the story of the
- 19:44Speaker 1: one ninety hitting outfitter from Single A. Ever Curtis Washington Junior,
- 19:48Speaker 1: the twenty six year old who got the emergency call
- 19:50Speaker 1: up on Monday. By the end of the game, my
- 19:52Speaker 1: son was yelling they should have kept Washington, kept the
- 19:54Speaker 1: guy and having make another forty five hundred bucks to
- 19:57Speaker 1: go another day. You know, I was thinking about that
- 19:59Speaker 1: last Chris. Why would they not? I mean, yeah, you're
- 20:04Speaker 1: trying to win a game and it was you. The
- 20:05Speaker 1: game you were at was what three to one in
- 20:07Speaker 1: the top of the night. But why not stick Curtis
- 20:11Speaker 1: Washington Junior, twenty six years old, who might not ever
- 20:14Speaker 1: play baseball because he's a single lay at twenty six,
- 20:16Speaker 1: who might be getting a job in the real world
- 20:18Speaker 1: the next year or two. He's up, he's in the show,
- 20:21Speaker 1: he's on the bench in the major league uniform. Stick
- 20:23Speaker 1: him in left field for the ninth inning. No, that's
- 20:27Speaker 1: why you're on this show. Great because you give a
- 20:29Speaker 1: different perspective. No one would have thought of that, but
- 20:31Speaker 1: that is that would have been cool because the rest
- 20:34Speaker 1: of his life. He could say he would be in
- 20:35Speaker 1: major league records is having played in a major league game?
- 20:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that I totally understand. That you have a lead,
- 20:42Speaker 2: you confident your closes are going to handle back.
- 20:43Speaker 1: You got munder's on the mound.
- 20:45Speaker 2: It's kind of to the effect of, you know, when
- 20:47Speaker 2: there's like three minutes left in a fourth quarter of
- 20:49Speaker 2: a NHL NBANFL game, put a rookie in there. Let
- 20:52Speaker 2: him get an opportunity just to experience it. Granted he
- 20:56Speaker 2: might not ever get the opportunity again. The Seahawks, though,
- 20:59Speaker 2: they were whooping team's ass about the season, so you
- 21:01Speaker 2: probably saw a lot of guys you never think would
- 21:02Speaker 2: get to play. They were out there, So I get it.
- 21:06Speaker 2: The Seahawks were at a different level. They were winning
- 21:08Speaker 2: games in incredible fashion. The manners aren't there, and that
- 21:12Speaker 2: might be why they didn't do that. But to bring
- 21:14Speaker 2: it all full circle, I think to your point, that
- 21:17Speaker 2: would have been a good opportunity just to get him
- 21:19Speaker 2: out there and enjoy that moment and embrace it and
- 21:22Speaker 2: be able to say, wow, I got to live my
- 21:24Speaker 2: dream of playing in a major league game. Because I
- 21:27Speaker 2: don't know when he'll get that opportunity again. He's been
- 21:29Speaker 2: in the minor leagues for six seven years. If he's
- 21:33Speaker 2: at Single A at age twenty six, I mean that's
- 21:36Speaker 2: he may not be playing baseball. But he could have
- 21:38Speaker 2: kept the ball, he could have kept the glove, he
- 21:40Speaker 2: could have had his jersey signed. He would frame that thing,
- 21:44Speaker 2: and matter where he would work, he'd say, man, I
- 21:47Speaker 2: played in the show, I got one game. He'd be
- 21:49Speaker 2: in Baseball Reference for the history Mariner's history. Unfortunate because
- 21:55Speaker 2: he's probably not coming back because that's confluence of events
- 21:58Speaker 2: and somebody didn't put on the injured list an hour
- 22:01Speaker 2: before the game and he's thirty minutes up the road.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Never is probably not going to happen again, which is
- 22:04Speaker 2: the only reason that Curtis Washington Junior was there to
- 22:08Speaker 2: begin with.
- 22:08Speaker 1: So shout out to Curtis Washington Junior. The show here
- 22:11Speaker 1: wishes you had gone in the game and could have
- 22:14Speaker 1: had that for the rest of your life.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Four nine, four to.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Five one coming to Oute Tech sid Is it time
- 22:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna bring up something we haven't never talked about
- 22:19Speaker 1: on this show? Is it time to bring up Las Montes,
- 22:23Speaker 1: the top prospect at Double A the outfitter who's six five,
- 22:26Speaker 1: two ten. When you got Reschneider and Connor Joe trying
- 22:30Speaker 1: to win you some games, I think it might be
- 22:32Speaker 1: time to bring up last Montes. Huh. Las Montes is
- 22:36Speaker 1: at double A and has been the top outfield prospect
- 22:40Speaker 1: for the marriage for a while. We talked about double
- 22:41Speaker 1: A ball and how teams are bringing up Texas League
- 22:45Speaker 1: players and skipping triple A and Anderson the pitcher who's
- 22:50Speaker 1: just dealing down there of being potentially another one. But
- 22:53Speaker 1: four nine, four to five one you want to see Laz,
- 22:55Speaker 1: is it time to bring him up? Where you don't
- 22:57Speaker 1: rush a kid up in the middle of June of
- 23:01Speaker 1: a first place team. But man, you gotta about pull
- 23:03Speaker 1: the rip cord on. Say what if they should they
- 23:06Speaker 1: Maybe they should just put July Rodriguez on the injury
- 23:08Speaker 1: list for ten days so he cannot have gregave of
- 23:10Speaker 1: his handstring injury and make it a bigger deal like
- 23:13Speaker 1: they did with Randy Roserita the same thing the night before.
- 23:15Speaker 1: So that's my question on the takomodage tech line. If
- 23:19Speaker 1: you want to see Las, is it time to bring
- 23:21Speaker 1: him up from double A six five to ten? That
- 23:24Speaker 1: would be an interesting presence. You don't teach that right,
- 23:29Speaker 1: that would be different in the Mariners outfield, or we
- 23:31Speaker 1: can see Connor Joe, there's options. His hair slowed him
- 23:37Speaker 1: down between second and third last night. He's got long,
- 23:39Speaker 1: long hair up. Next World Cup ticket prices, guess what,
- 23:43Speaker 1: Chris they're dropping for the US Australia match tomorrow. That's
- 23:48Speaker 1: something of a joke. I explain that next eleven o'clock
- 23:51Speaker 1: we're gonna have two Roosevelt High School golfers from Seattle
- 23:53Speaker 1: and their coach, Max Rose, who qualified for the US
- 23:56Speaker 1: Junior Amateur Championship. Only two hundred and sixty four people
- 23:59Speaker 1: in the world can qualify for that, and two of
- 24:01Speaker 1: them came from the same high school in Seattle. That's
- 24:03Speaker 1: coming up on ninety three point three KJRF. Then welcome
- 24:26Speaker 1: back to the Greg Belt Show with Christopher kid Live
- 24:28Speaker 1: on ninety three point three kJ r FM. You talked
- 24:32Speaker 1: about the Brendan Soresby situation, supplemental draft if there even
- 24:36Speaker 1: is going to be one. We talked about the Mariners
- 24:38Speaker 1: in their latest woes of injury and maybe rodriguez best
- 24:44Speaker 1: option is just to shut him down a hamstring injury.
- 24:46Speaker 1: You don't want to go on and on. Maybe they
- 24:48Speaker 1: will do the same as they did with Randy Rose
- 24:50Speaker 1: Arena injured in last night's game. Julia Rodriguez, we'll have
- 24:55Speaker 1: a keyword for you at eleven o'clock. WHI also going
- 24:57Speaker 1: to talk to Quinn Burwell and Carson Church along with
- 25:01Speaker 1: their coach, Max Rose Rosdale High School golf team, and
- 25:04Speaker 1: they've they have qualified for the US Junior Amateur Championship
- 25:08Speaker 1: next month in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Two hundred and sixty four
- 25:12Speaker 1: golfers around the world qualify for that event, and two
- 25:15Speaker 1: of them goes to the same high school, walking the
- 25:16Speaker 1: same halls, eating at the same lunch period. That's pretty cool.
- 25:20Speaker 1: It happens to be the school that's right next to
- 25:21Speaker 1: my house that my kids graduated from in twenty twenty
- 25:24Speaker 1: one to two. You'll hear from them at eleven o'clock.
- 25:26Speaker 1: They're in the studio here. I gotta get them headphones
- 25:27Speaker 1: because they're just staring at me because they can't hear
- 25:29Speaker 1: really what I'm saying. The World Cup, everything about the
- 25:34Speaker 1: World Cup in the US comes tomorrow to Seattle. They're
- 25:37Speaker 1: actually here today. They're at the University of Washington practicing
- 25:40Speaker 1: on Husky soccer pitch on the grass field this morning.
- 25:42Speaker 1: All eyes on it whether Christian Polisic is practicing. He's
- 25:46Speaker 1: got a caf strain and has a practice all week.
- 25:48Speaker 1: His teammates think, yeah, he's practicing. I mean he's playing tomorrow.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Don't worry about that. But all of the soccerdom for
- 25:54Speaker 1: the United States has now descended on Seattle in preparation
- 25:57Speaker 1: for tomorrow at noon. We're going to be down there tomorrow.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Jimmy's on first before the game ten a in to noon.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Chuck Palell is going to be down there from six
- 26:06Speaker 1: to ten at Jimmy's right across the street from the
- 26:09Speaker 1: State and the soccer ruse are massing at Victory Hall
- 26:12Speaker 1: right across this first avenue from the Mariners Park and
- 26:16Speaker 1: are going to march into the stadium. And if it's
- 26:18Speaker 1: anything like Vancouver Saturday night, that's going to be a scene,
- 26:22Speaker 1: the soccer rous, the Australians and their fans. It's going
- 26:25Speaker 1: to be a scene down in Soto tomorrow morning in
- 26:29Speaker 1: advance of that noon kickoff. If you want to go, Chris,
- 26:33Speaker 1: the ticket prices have dropped.
- 26:37Speaker 2: It's not quite that okay.
- 26:39Speaker 1: It went from two remember yesterday, I said on Softy's
- 26:42Speaker 1: Vivid Seats it's two thy eighty seven dollars to get
- 26:45Speaker 1: in yesterday, What a bargain. Now it's down to fifteen
- 26:49Speaker 1: to seventy five. Oh, it's even better. I mean, why
- 26:51Speaker 1: pay more? Eh, that's for a group stage match. Yeah,
- 26:56Speaker 1: if you want to bring your significant other, you're gonna
- 26:59Speaker 1: have to. Yeahs an he or she better be very
- 27:02Speaker 1: significant at that price. You know, when the World Cup
- 27:06Speaker 1: comes to Seattle, the site vivinseats dot com the fifteen
- 27:10Speaker 1: hundred and seventy five dollars seat that's in the third
- 27:12Speaker 1: deck corner. They call it a ten out of ten
- 27:16Speaker 1: fantastic deal. Those are true soccer fans. This is for
- 27:21Speaker 1: a group stage match. Remember we said if the United
- 27:23Speaker 1: States beats Australia tomorrow, they will have the inside track
- 27:26Speaker 1: to winning their group. If they win their group, they'll
- 27:29Speaker 1: have a favorable matchup against a third place team in
- 27:31Speaker 1: the round of thirty two knockout stage. And then if
- 27:35Speaker 1: they win the round of thirty two by winning the group,
- 27:37Speaker 1: that team from that group that wins would be tracked
- 27:40Speaker 1: to play the round of sixteen knockout game in Seattle July.
- 27:44Speaker 1: The sixth, So all of you that are think about
- 27:47Speaker 1: should I put fifteen hundred down on this?
- 27:50Speaker 2: Wait?
- 27:51Speaker 1: If you are, if you're an American, has faith in
- 27:53Speaker 1: your team, wait and spend your money on July sixth, Right,
- 27:57Speaker 1: Greg is giving you better if you gambler, some advice
- 28:00Speaker 1: I would I would listen. Greg doesn't do this often.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I think this is what your second time giving out.
- 28:05Speaker 2: You're you're turning this into better advice. Chris, I was
- 28:08Speaker 2: not giving apologies. Don't let me jump again. Continue what
- 28:11Speaker 2: you're saying to you. I'm just saying.
- 28:12Speaker 1: If I'm my son and I have had this discussion.
- 28:15Speaker 1: My son's the richest twenty three year old I know
- 28:18Speaker 1: in terms of saved money. He doesn't spend any money.
- 28:20Speaker 1: He keeps making it, but he doesn't save it. I
- 28:23Speaker 1: mean he doesn't spend it, he just saves it. If
- 28:25Speaker 1: ever a twenty three year old has the cash to
- 28:27Speaker 1: throw down fifteen hundred on a World Cup match, he does.
- 28:31Speaker 1: I said, wait a minute, though, they may be coming back. Yeah,
- 28:35Speaker 1: in two weeks time. July sixth, a little over two
- 28:38Speaker 1: weeks for a game that actually is a knockout winner.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Take all, right, or you got to win or go home.
- 28:42Speaker 2: How much you think that's going to cost the exactly
- 28:45Speaker 2: And that's so maybe three grand double the price now
- 28:48Speaker 2: because it's a knockout round.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Or but if you spend fifteen hundred tomorrow, you have
- 28:52Speaker 1: less that that half as much abo three thousand to
- 28:55Speaker 1: spend on you spent like twenty five hundred now because
- 28:57Speaker 1: you went to both games, if that's how you want
- 28:59Speaker 1: to do it.
- 28:59Speaker 2: But if I know Eric's a big soccer fan, Eric,
- 29:02Speaker 2: if you got.
- 29:02Speaker 1: That money, man, I'm just saying, Yolo, you only live once,
- 29:06Speaker 1: you know, and then you'll start working again.
- 29:08Speaker 2: You can build out four k back up, just saying.
- 29:11Speaker 1: As long as mom and Dad have him his landlords, he'll.
- 29:14Speaker 2: What did he take out a Greg Baill loan?
- 29:17Speaker 1: He could?
- 29:18Speaker 2: Dad, let me hold two grand, I'll pay you with entry.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I was I was going to try to get him
- 29:22Speaker 1: into a ticket to the Super Bowl. He wasn't down
- 29:24Speaker 1: there with me. My wife and I were down in
- 29:26Speaker 1: Santa Clara, San Francisco, and we were looking for tickets
- 29:29Speaker 1: for him and he didn't want to pay that And
- 29:32Speaker 1: that was at the time. I found him a ticket
- 29:35Speaker 1: for about thirty five hundred dollars.
- 29:38Speaker 2: D and that you know where are you sitting me there?
- 29:41Speaker 1: Greg?
- 29:41Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly exactly.
- 29:43Speaker 1: So if you don't want to pay fifteen hundred dollars,
- 29:45Speaker 1: that means you just have some common sense and I'm
- 29:47Speaker 1: not blaming.
- 29:48Speaker 2: You at all.
- 29:49Speaker 1: You can go to a Seattle Center tomorrow is opening
- 29:52Speaker 1: a outdoor viewing party place that they have not yet use.
- 29:55Speaker 2: We've talked about Peer sixty.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Two down in the Waterfront Park. A beautiful setting, but
- 30:00Speaker 1: it's jam packed and it's hard to get in, and
- 30:02Speaker 1: in fact, for tomorrow's game, you have to be on
- 30:04Speaker 1: a wait list, and I don't know how a weight
- 30:05Speaker 1: list is going to work becauseho's not going to use
- 30:07Speaker 1: their ticket to get into that game. And the tickets
- 30:08Speaker 1: don't even get you in any way, cause you gotta
- 30:10Speaker 1: get there by certain on and anyway. In Seattle Center,
- 30:14Speaker 1: you can go to the mural Amphitheater. I don't know
- 30:17Speaker 1: if you guys have gone into concerts or bumber shoot
- 30:19Speaker 1: at the mural Ampathy. It's right under the Space Needle.
- 30:21Speaker 1: It's in the big open green space and they've got
- 30:23Speaker 1: a little stage. It's a pretty fairly big sized stage.
- 30:26Speaker 1: I've seen concerts from there during bumber Shoot, and you
- 30:29Speaker 1: can go there for free tomorrow starting at ten am,
- 30:31Speaker 1: games at noon, and they're gonna have a giant outsoord
- 30:34Speaker 1: screen in Seattle Center. They have not They're going to
- 30:36Speaker 1: do it for other matches in the tournament, but tomorrow's
- 30:38Speaker 1: is the first one. They've been doing it inside at
- 30:41Speaker 1: the Armory but not at Seattle Center, but not outside.
- 30:44Speaker 1: So tomorrow outside, that's one of your options. And now
- 30:47Speaker 1: that we keep promoting it, it'll probably be packed and
- 30:49Speaker 1: packed with people too. I still can't get Chris to go, dude.
- 30:51Speaker 1: He just wants to go home. And are you gonna
