- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter four tears. Another parable He put forth unto them, saying,
- 0:05Speaker 1: the Kingdom of Heaven is likened unto a man which
- 0:07Speaker 1: sowed good seed in his field. But while men slept,
- 0:11Speaker 1: his enemy came and sowed teares among the wheat, and
- 0:14Speaker 1: went his way. But when the blade was sprung up
- 0:16Speaker 1: and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tears. Also the
- 0:20Speaker 1: field Christ said is the world. But we must understand
- 0:23Speaker 1: this is signifying the Church of Christ in the world.
- 0:26Speaker 1: The parable is a description of that which pertains to
- 0:29Speaker 1: the Kingdom of God his work for salvation of men.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And this work is accomplished through the Church. True, the
- 0:35Speaker 1: Holy Spirit has gone out into all the world everywhere
- 0:38Speaker 1: it is moving upon the hearts of men. But it
- 0:40Speaker 1: is in the Church that we are to grow and
- 0:42Speaker 1: ripen for the garner of God. He that sowed the
- 0:45Speaker 1: good seed is the son of man. The good seed
- 0:48Speaker 1: are the children of the Kingdom, but the tears are
- 0:51Speaker 1: the children of the wicked one. The good seed represents
- 0:55Speaker 1: those who are born of the Word of God, the Truth.
- 0:58Speaker 1: The tears represent a class who are the fruit or
- 1:01Speaker 1: embodiment of error of false principles. The enemy that sowed
- 1:05Speaker 1: them is the devil. Neither God nor his angels ever
- 1:08Speaker 1: sowed a seed that would produce a tear. The tears
- 1:11Speaker 1: are always sown by Satan, the enemy of God and man.
- 1:16Speaker 1: In the east, men sometimes took revenge upon an enemy
- 1:19Speaker 1: by strewing his newly sown fields with the seeds of
- 1:22Speaker 1: some noxious weed that, while growing closely resembled wheat. Springing
- 1:27Speaker 1: up with the wheat, it injured the crop and brought
- 1:29Speaker 1: trouble and lost to the owner of the field. So
- 1:32Speaker 1: it is from enmity to Christ that Satan scatters his
- 1:36Speaker 1: evil seed among the good grain of the kingdom. The
- 1:39Speaker 1: fruit of his sowing he attributes to the son of
- 1:41Speaker 1: God by bringing into the church those who bear Christ's name,
- 1:45Speaker 1: while they deny his character, the wicked one causes that
- 1:49Speaker 1: God shall be dishonored, the work of salvation misrepresented, and
- 1:53Speaker 1: souls imperiled. Christ's servants are grieved as they see true
- 1:57Speaker 1: and false believers mingled in the church. They long to
- 2:00Speaker 1: do something to cleanse the church. Like the servants of
- 2:03Speaker 1: the householder. They are ready to uproot the teares. But
- 2:06Speaker 1: Christ says to them, nay, lest while ye gather up
- 2:09Speaker 1: the tears, ye root up also the wheat with them.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Let both grow together until the harvest. Christ has plainly
- 2:16Speaker 1: taught that those who persist in open sin must be
- 2:19Speaker 1: separated from the Church. But he has not committed to
- 2:22Speaker 1: us the work of judging character and motive. He knows
- 2:26Speaker 1: our nature too well to entrust this work to us.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Should we try to uproot from the Church those whom
- 2:32Speaker 1: we suppose to be spurious Christians, we should be sure
- 2:36Speaker 1: to make mistakes. Often we regard as hopeless subjects the
- 2:39Speaker 1: very ones whom Christ is drawing to himself. Were we
- 2:43Speaker 1: to deal with these souls according to our imperfect judgment,
- 2:47Speaker 1: it would perhaps extinguish their last hope. Many who think
- 2:50Speaker 1: themselves Christians will at last be found wanting. Many will
- 2:54Speaker 1: be in Heaven who their neighbors supposed would never enter there.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Man judges from appearance, but God judge from the heart.
- 3:01Speaker 1: The tears and the wheat are to grow together until
- 3:04Speaker 1: the harvest, and the harvest is the end of probationary time.
- 3:08Speaker 1: There is in the Saviour's words another lesson, a lesson
- 3:11Speaker 1: of wonderful forbearance and tender love. As the terrors have
- 3:15Speaker 1: their roots closely intertwined with those of the good grain.
- 3:18Speaker 1: So false brethren in the church may be closely linked
- 3:21Speaker 1: to true disciples. The real character of these pretend believers
- 3:25Speaker 1: is not fully manifested. Were they to be separated from
- 3:29Speaker 1: the Church, others might be caused to stumble, who but
- 3:32Speaker 1: for this, would have remained steadfast. The teaching of this
- 3:35Speaker 1: parable is illustrated in God's own dealing with men and angels.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Satan is a deceiver. When he sinned in heaven, even
- 3:42Speaker 1: the loyal angels did not fully discern his character. This
- 3:45Speaker 1: was why God did not at once destroy Satan. Had
- 3:49Speaker 1: he done so, the holy angels would not have perceived
- 3:51Speaker 1: the justice and love of God. A doubt of God's
- 3:54Speaker 1: goodness would have been as evil seed that would yield
- 3:58Speaker 1: the bitter fruit of sin and woe. Therefore, the author
- 4:01Speaker 1: of evil was spared fully to develop his character. Through
- 4:05Speaker 1: long ages, God has borne the anguish of beholding the
- 4:09Speaker 1: work of evil. He has given the infinite gift of Calvary,
- 4:12Speaker 1: rather than leave any to be deceived by the misrepresentations
- 4:16Speaker 1: of the wicked one. For the teares could not be
- 4:19Speaker 1: plucked up without danger of uprooting the precious grain. And
- 4:23Speaker 1: shall we not be as forbearing toward our fellow men,
- 4:26Speaker 1: as the Lord of Heaven and Earth is towards Satan.
- 4:29Speaker 1: The world has no right to doubt the truth of
- 4:32Speaker 1: Christianity because there are unworthy members in the church. Nor
- 4:36Speaker 1: should Christians become disheartened because of these false brethren. How
- 4:40Speaker 1: was it with the early church? Annonaeus and Sapphira joined
- 4:43Speaker 1: themselves to the disciples. Simon Magus was baptized, Demus, who
- 4:48Speaker 1: forsook Paul, had been counted a believer. Judas Is Scariot
- 4:52Speaker 1: was numbered with the apostles. The Redeemer does not want
- 4:55Speaker 1: to lose one soul. His experience with Judas is recorded
- 4:59Speaker 1: to show oh his long patience with perverse human nature,
- 5:03Speaker 1: and he bids us bear with it as he has borne.
- 5:07Speaker 1: He has said that false brethren will be found in
- 5:09Speaker 1: the Church till the close of time. Notwithstanding Christ's warning,
- 5:14Speaker 1: men have sought to uproot the tares to punish those
- 5:17Speaker 1: who were supposed to be equal doers. The Church has
- 5:20Speaker 1: had recourse to the civil power. Those who differed from
- 5:24Speaker 1: the established doctrines have been imprisoned, put to torture, and
- 5:28Speaker 1: to death at the instigation of men who claim to
- 5:31Speaker 1: be acting under the sanction of Christ. But it is
- 5:34Speaker 1: the spirit of Satan, not the spirit of Christ, that
- 5:37Speaker 1: inspires such acts. This is Satan's own method of bringing
- 5:41Speaker 1: the world under his dominion. God has been misrepresented through
- 5:45Speaker 1: the Church by this way of dealing with those supposed
- 5:48Speaker 1: to be heretics. Not judgment and condemnation of others, but
- 5:52Speaker 1: humility and distrust of self is the teaching of Christ's parable.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Not all that is sown in the field is good great.
- 6:00Speaker 1: The fact that men are in the church does not
- 6:02Speaker 1: prove them Christians. The tears closely resemble the wheat while
- 6:06Speaker 1: the blades were green, But when the field was white
- 6:09Speaker 1: for the harvest, the worthless weeds bore no likeness to
- 6:12Speaker 1: the wheat that bowed under the weight of its fool
- 6:14Speaker 1: ripe heads. Sinners who make a pretension of piety mingle
- 6:19Speaker 1: for a time with the true followers of Christ, and
- 6:21Speaker 1: the semblance of Christianity is calculated to deceive many. But
- 6:25Speaker 1: in the harvest of the world there will be no
- 6:27Speaker 1: likeness between good and evil. Then those who have joined
- 6:30Speaker 1: the Church but who have not joined Christ will be manifest.
- 6:35Speaker 1: The tears are permitted to grow among the wheat, to
- 6:38Speaker 1: have all the advantages of sun and shower. But in
- 6:41Speaker 1: the time of harvest, Ye shall return and discern between
- 6:44Speaker 1: the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God
- 6:47Speaker 1: and him that serveth Him. Not Christ himself will decide
- 6:51Speaker 1: who are worthy to dwell with the family in heaven.
- 6:55Speaker 1: He will judge every man according to his words and
- 6:58Speaker 1: his works. Profession is as nothing in the scale. It
- 7:03Speaker 1: is character that decides destiny. The Savior does not point
- 7:07Speaker 1: forward to a time when all the tears become wheat.
- 7:10Speaker 1: The wheat and tears grow together until the harvest, the
- 7:13Speaker 1: end of the world. Then the tears are bound in
- 7:16Speaker 1: bundles to be burned, and the wheat is gathered in
- 7:19Speaker 1: the garner of God. Then shall the righteous shine forth
- 7:23Speaker 1: as the sun in the kingdom of their father. Then
- 7:25Speaker 1: the Son of Man shall send forth his angels, and
- 7:28Speaker 1: they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that
- 7:31Speaker 1: offend and them which do iniquity, and shall cast them
- 7:35Speaker 1: into a furnace of fire. There shall be wailing and
- 7:39Speaker 1: gnashing of teeth. End of Chapter four
