Latest / Elon Musk Podcast / Elon Musk to remove 1.5 billion Twitter accounts
Transcript
- 0:00When Elon Musk, but Twitter, 445 billion dollars, he had some
- 0:04ideas of what the plum could become.
- 0:06But before he added anything, he thought it was a good idea to do
- 0:11a little bit of housekeeping. And months before he bought
- 0:14Twitter, he was complaining on Twitter about the Bots situation
- 0:20on the platform. What happens when you have an
- 0:23overwhelming audience of bots as opposed to normal people, the
- 0:29normal people will get drowned out by things that don't
- 0:32actually exist or people that are trying to scam you out of
- 0:35crypto or people that are promoting something.
- 0:38Every single one of elon's tweets that he posted.
- 0:41Immediately had a crypto scammer.
- 0:44Pretty much with the same profile as Ilan elon's name
- 0:49similar. Look similar feel to Ilan as the
- 0:52first comment in what they would do is they would say hey if you
- 0:55send us .25 Bitcoin we will send you five Bitcoin.
- 1:00Something like that typical scam.
- 1:01It's the Nigerian prince thing. You know, you have to send us
- 1:04five thousand dollars in order for us to unlock two million
- 1:08dollars in your bank account, and Ilan was getting fed up with
- 1:11it. So when he took over Twitter,
- 1:13one of the first thing that he said he was going to do is
- 1:16delete the Bots, you know? But first there is another thing
- 1:20that he has to get to. That's the old users on the
- 1:23perm. People that don't use their
- 1:25accounts, any basically dead usernames.
- 1:29So Eli. Elon Musk will be removing 1.5
- 1:33billion usernames from Twitter in the coming weeks as well as
- 1:37adding a new feature. And this is an important step
- 1:41for Twitter because those 1.5 billion users aren't actual
- 1:46people. And this is why it's important,
- 1:48those accounts, they may count towards advising.
- 1:52If you can say, you have X amount of billions of users,
- 1:56that the product could reach some advisors Say yeah, that
- 2:00sounds like a great idea. If you inflate, those numbers by
- 2:031.5 billion used because those users are on the platform but
- 2:09they're not actually active. They have been active in years,
- 2:12then, of course. Elon says that's not right?
- 2:15That's not fair. It doesn't seem like the right
- 2:18thing to do to hold these accounts in the platform and
- 2:22also talking to advertisers telling the amount of people
- 2:26that are on the planet. It's a lie.
- 2:28You know, that's what he's feeling at this point.
- 2:29Point so 1.5 inactive billion users will be deleted from
- 2:36Twitter. Those accounts will be freed up,
- 2:38so those usernames will be available.
- 2:41He also said that he would add a feature that would allow Twitter
- 2:44users to see the number of people that read or wracked with
- 2:47their tweets. If you see a number of people
- 2:51that interact with your tweets, a few, you know, somebody gives
- 2:54you a heart. That's great.
- 2:55How many people see all those stats.
- 2:58Not many at this. Point.
- 3:00But if you can see how many people are you read to your
- 3:02Tweet, that's great. You have some statistics.
- 3:04You have some numbers to go by to see what actually works on
- 3:08the platform. In these kind of Statistics have
- 3:10been available on platforms like YouTube and also podcast
- 3:13platforms, things like that for a very long time.
- 3:16And those kind of metrics are important to sort of shift your
- 3:21focus to your audience because even though you may have a
- 3:25voice, your odds might not be okay with some of the The things
- 3:30that you say they might not be into some of the things that you
- 3:32say I should actually clarify there, so they might not be into
- 3:37it. So, say if say, if I'm talking
- 3:39about cyber truck, cyber trucks were really cool.
- 3:42It's one of the coolest things that I've ever seen, but some of
- 3:45my users, some of the people that listen, some of you out
- 3:49there may not, like, cyber truck and I have to see what kind of
- 3:53Statistics are in the back end to see if actually somebody
- 3:56wants to listen to the episode, I don't know.
- 3:58Who knows what's going to happen with side?
- 4:00Truck in the next six months. Well, if I make a podcast about
- 4:03it, some people might love it but some people might not and I
- 4:07have to see those numbers in order to kind of grow the
- 4:09podcast and grow the platform. So that's what elon's doing with
- 4:13Twitter and it comes back to free speech.
- 4:16What's available are these people real?
- 4:19Do you want to lie to your advertisers?
- 4:21Because I mean hundreds of millions of dollars per month or
- 4:25per year from Apple, you don't want a light Apple.
- 4:28You don't want to lie to Tim Cook about the Amount of users
- 4:30that are on your platform, that's just weird.
- 4:32Ilan tweeted tweets will show view counts in a few weeks just
- 4:36like videos. Do Twitter is much more alive
- 4:39than people think, because think about it when you tweet
- 4:41something, it seems like it's just a static thing.
- 4:45You don't really get all the backend stuff that's going on.
- 4:48You just get to see your Tweet and then who comments and then
- 4:51maybe you can comment on those comments retweets.
- 4:53You get those kind of things or shares, you get those kind of
- 4:56stats, but you don't really get to see how many people have
- 4:58actually viewed your Tweet. Because Could have a million
- 5:01views on your Tweet and that's important because then you can
- 5:05use the platform as a way to earn money.
- 5:09So this is where elon's going with this, right?
- 5:11The YouTube have share profile. The model That You Tube is used
- 5:16is amazing. So say if you get a 70/30 cut,
- 5:19right? So say if you have a million
- 5:22viewers on your Tweet, that's great.
- 5:24You know if you have a million people that watch and see every
- 5:28one of your tweets, that's Great.
- 5:30Because then you can leverage that and say, okay, hey geysers
- 5:33why don't you put an ad as the first tweet, maybe a pinned
- 5:37tweet under my tweet, the first comment is a pinned
- 5:41advertisement or something like that.
- 5:43I'm not sure. I'm just making up ideas here
- 5:45and I thought about this a few little bit, but how could you
- 5:48get a involved? You could do a sponsored post,
- 5:51pretty simple. But you have to have the numbers
- 5:53in order to do that because if you, if you post something and
- 5:57you get a bunch of replies and you get a bunch of people.
- 5:59Retweeting it that's great but you don't know how many people
- 6:02actually saw your post, how many eyeballs have been on your post
- 6:05and Ilan is stripping away, all the Bots and all of the users
- 6:11that don't exist. So those eyeballs that leave
- 6:14you, your post will be real people and not some scamming
- 6:19Bots that are trying to sell you something on their own.
- 6:23So Ilan said, December 9th, 2022, Twitter will soon start.
- 6:28Freeing the namespace of Of 1.5 billion accounts.
- 6:32These are obvious account, deletions with no tweets and no
- 6:35login for years. So if they're not even active,
- 6:39there's no reason to keep them around.
- 6:41Right? People are just sitting as it's
- 6:42kind of, like, the domain squatters, if you get a domain
- 6:46name, say, if you know, you get a domain that somebody wants but
- 6:49you sit on it for 15 years and the wealth that you can learn
- 6:53from that could be astounding, you could sell it for millions
- 6:57of dollars in the future, that's what people did in.
- 6:59Dot-com early days, they just bought the domains of hundreds,
- 7:03thousands of domains, so they could resell them.
- 7:06And that's they still do. That's a huge market and that's
- 7:09what people say or maybe have done with some of these
- 7:11accounts. So there's a lot of people that
- 7:13just signed up and then they're like, well, I don't even like
- 7:15Twitter, I don't know why I have a Twitter account or they don't
- 7:17know how to use the platform or they didn't really get into it.
- 7:20So all those people are going to be gone, the show is brought to

- 9:20you with it it's really powerful in his really easy to use so go
- 9:23to back place.com slash Ilan. Back plays.com be Lon.
- 9:29Backblaze.com Ilan. So the forty four billion 45
- 9:35billion dollar acquisition of Twitter.
- 9:37It's kind of work it out now. You know, you kind of see things
- 9:41come into place. Now you some of the, some of the
- 9:43moves are being made, Ilan, gutted the company.
- 9:46Absolutely gutted the company half the people are gone now,
- 9:50very slim lined company at this point and also Ilan wants people
- 9:54to work like crazy. He wants people to have startup
- 9:57hours because this is essentially Brand new company
- 10:01under Elon Musk. So the changes come as musk is
- 10:04moving the company away from at and which is regulating the
- 10:08speech of its users for political violence or otherwise
- 10:11it toward a free exchange of ideas in the future.
- 10:16So you wants the people to be able to talk about whatever they
- 10:19want to talk about. But he also wants them to have a
- 10:22reason to do that because right now, what can you what can you
- 10:26really sell on Twitter in? Most people are motivated,
- 10:28motivated by money and And so if you have millions of followers,
- 10:32that's great, but what kind of power do you have on Twitter?
- 10:35If you have millions of views on your Tweet and that really much
- 10:38at this point, like yeah. I mean I mean you do, you do
- 10:41have a voice but how can you leverage that into something
- 10:44where you can monetize it? That's what he loves going for,
- 10:47right? So there's you know there's a
- 10:49few things going on there and Elon is working hard to humanize
- 10:53Twitter at this point you know there's internal diamonds being
- 10:56leaked and we're going to get into that in another podcast
- 10:58because there's a Lot going on with that.
- 11:01So I have to prepare for them, Ilan suspended users and reduced
- 11:05an account of a bunch of these posts accounts with bunch of
- 11:09these weird post going on. It's a it's a really weird time
- 11:13for Twitter but I believe Ilan has the best interest of the
- 11:17user base in mind and elon's been releasing the Twitter files
- 11:22and it is it's coming lewd on Twitter right now.
- 11:26People are going crazy for these things.
- 11:28So what have a little bit more information about that in the
- 11:30future in the next episode. But I want to touch on this
- 11:33first because this is the sort of the work for the future of a
- 11:37Twitter. So thanks for listening.
