[whistles] All right, ready? [laughs] Get on your fucking ride. Am I ready? I'm not ready.
• 0:12
[upbeat music] So in the, in the old days, you couldn't restart the... In the old Road Caster, you couldn't push the button again and pause it. Yeah. You just had to let it play out, so I'm like...
• 0:30
Now it just beep, boop, beep, boops. Beep, boop, beep, boop, boop, beep. Anyway, hey, everybody. It's Full Spectrum Cycling. This is show 313. I think in that week- Yeah... week off, we...
• 0:39
I forgot how to do this, I guess. Or mathing, yeah. I guess 313's your Detroit area code- Oh, yeah... in case you hadn't done your, uh, research. I didn't, I didn't do any research, but 313, yeah, Michigan. Ah.
• 0:49
It's been a Michigan hiatus- Yeah... since the last. Well, two out of the three people here have been to Michigan very recently. I'm going in, uh, a week. Ah, there we have it. [laughs] Yeah, right on.
• 0:59
[laughs] So I'm going the Tuesday after the 24. Ah, right on. Michael, could you, uh, take care of the darkness over there, please? Let me. Thank you very much. Allow me to.
• 1:07
Uh, while Michael's doing that, JK to you people- [laughs]... uh, we also have Mr. Cory Baumann in the house. [clicks tongue] Hello. How's it going? He of the River West 24 and the banding and the recent trip to Alaska.
• 1:20
Yeah. How was that? It was great. Um, you never get sick of the views and being up at, like, midnight, and it looks like 7:00 PM. [laughs] You know, with the sun still up and, like, it's...
• 1:31
That part's kinda wild, but they do a really good job with the curtains, so you can go to bed and not- Mm-hmm. Yeah... not feel, like, too messed up.
• 1:38
It's, uh, it was something I do appreciate about Michigan, A, that we're on the western side of the state so you get the sunset, and B, we're on the western side of the time zone so it's later when you get the sun setting.
• 1:50
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's awesome. The sunset there is at, like, 10:00. Yeah. Yeah, it's great. I, I think it... Yeah, it was... We were now a month after.
• 1:58
It's, like, almost a month after the solstice, so yeah, it was, like, 9:35. Yeah. So yeah. And at the, on the day of the solstice, I bet it is easily 10 o'clock. Yep. And it just, it's beautiful.
• 2:08
You got your Lake Michigan, and then you got your nothing and your sun. Yeah. My, uh, my aunt and uncle who live up there, they all live along the lake. So you know, it, it seems like it stays up longer than- Uh, what...
• 2:19
Where are they? They're in Traverse City area. Oh. Oh, that's a nice area up there. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, technically Suttons Bay, but, uh, which is about 25 minutes east from Traverse, so... But it's gorgeous land.
• 2:32
I, uh- Oh, yeah... I've grown up going there, and, uh, go up there, try to go up there at least once a year, if not twice, so... Yeah. Well, Michael did, uh, an auto bus tour. Yes, did the Lake Michigan circle loop.
• 2:46
Oh, cool. Did you go over the Mackinac Bridge and all that? Yeah. Nice. Yeah, it was Milwaukee to Sault Ste. Marie for two and down, uh, lunched at Traverse City, then down to Grand Haven for one night,
• 3:02
and then down to Michigan City in Indiana. Ha ha ha. Yeah. Just to sc- Oddly enough... just to screw up my own inner- Well, that's like a, that's a really good-... geography, which I suck at anyways.
• 3:11
That's a good section down there of, like, beach too. It is. Yeah. It's funny because they, they advertise every cannabis store in the damn world, and it's Indiana. Right. And they...
• 3:21
It's, like, almost, like, it's almost Puritan style, uh, in Indiana except you can smoke cigarettes in the bars- Oh... which was kind of mind-bending. But- Do you-... but I took advantage of it, of course.
• 3:32
Do you remember where you ate lunch in Traverse City? Uh, the T- T- T- Tap Root. [clicks tongue] That name is familiar. Tap Root, I wanna say. It's a cider- Yeah... it's a cider tap house.
• 3:45
Yep, yep, that's- Or it's- We've been there, yep. Yeah, it was pretty tasty- Yeah... vittles, man. Um, there's Tandem Cider.
• 3:52
If you ever get to spend a little bit more time up there, Tandem Cider blows everything out of the water. Okay. Um, you know? I'm not a, like, a real cider person. Yeah. And what I got was good. Mm-hmm.
• 4:03
I mean, it was very champagna- Yeah... tasting. And but yeah, it was worth it. There's some really good breweries up there, too.
• 4:11
Uh, Hop Lot, also in Suttons Bay, is great, but in Traverse City, there's North Peak, and there's Right Brain.
• 4:17
And Right Brain, I don't know where they, what they're up to right now, but they used to do, like, kinda, like, more funky type brews. Mm. Uh, they had, like, an asparagus beer.
• 4:25
[laughs] You know, like, a lot of, like- Test asparagus. Yeah, test batch kinda stuff. [laughs] But then they have their, you know, their staples and their flagships. [laughs] I...
• 4:32
So we did- There's a pee joke right in there somewhere. Yeah. [laughs] Where pee, like, the total smell. Well, I know we stopped at this place 'cause we got coasters from it. This is, uh- Yes...
• 4:41
Big Heart Brewing Company in Hart, Michigan, which is just... It's, it's inland a little bit. There's actually a bike trail that goes from Hart to Montague, which is 35, 40 miles south of where we were. Okay.
• 4:58
So we were on this trail for, like, two miles, which- Okay... but it was a nice flat, level railroad grade [laughs] two miles, which was, after a bunch of hills, really nice. Um, but yeah.
• 5:08
And then we also went to Ludington Bay Brewing. They had a pretty dec- One of their beers was pretty decent. They're one of those places with, like, 12 on this side.
• 5:17
Flip it over, there's another 12 over there, and you're like- Where do you start?... "Can you just do, like, four pretty well and [laughs]?" Yeah, just do... Yeah, do, like, five great beers. Yeah.
• 5:25
Yeah, do a good lager and a good pils and a couple- Yeah... IPAs and a stout or something like that. I f- I forget what it was called. I think it was called, uh, First Curve or something. It was pretty decent.
• 5:34
I mean, it's hard for me with having to have Amorphic right next door and comparing other breweries to their beer. Yeah. Yeah, you guys are pretty spoiled.
• 5:40
But maybe I'm just sorta spoiled because I'm just used to their beer, and maybe... I guess it's gotta be good. They keep winning awards, but, uh- [clears throat]
• 5:48
Yeah, so, you know, brew pubs are a thing over there as they are here. I was, uh, I, I was cleaning out the bags after the trip, and I found...
• 5:57
I thought it had been a lot longer since we were over there before, but the last time we were in Michigan was 2021. Okay. So not really that long ago. Did you, uh, get the boat by donating a bike?
• 6:08
Well, that was how we did this one, the Lake Express, last time. But this time we took The Badger, the SS Badger- Okay... out of Manitowoc, and that's a humongous boat. Okay.
• 6:20
So we got there, and we did the 1:30 AM sailing from Manitowoc, and it was a full moon, so it... And it happened to be nice and clear out, which was great. Uh, but I thought, "Yeah, I'll just...
• 6:30
I'll watch the moon for a little while and then I'll sleep." No sleep. No. Mm-mm. But I did get to wander around that big-ass ship a bunch. Yeah.
• 6:38
So I figured out where the arcade is, where the movie theater is, where the candy store [laughs] is, where the... Yeah. Where the bar was. Well, that's cool. Would've been open.
• 6:45
Where the bar w- And we took the 8:35 on the way back from there, so then we did have the bar open- Mm-hmm... uh, on the way back. They, they poured a strong- I just-... strong drink. So they had c- so they had cans.
• 6:57
When I did it last. Yeah. They had cans of beer, and a, a... Bud Light was six bucks, but so was a Two Hearted IPA. Same price. Oh. No-brainer. Right. So was a, "I'll talk to you as you're pouring the-" Oh...
• 7:11
"the whiskey into this Coca-Cola, and then..." Yeah. [laughs] Yeah, we played s- "Don't... You may lose count." "Oh, okay." $6. We played some bingo. [laughs] We sat on the deck. You know, it just... It's...
• 7:22
I l- it, it's the slow boat, I think. Yeah. It is. It's very- So- It's very cool and calming...
• 7:27
it doesn't apparently trigger the Strava saying you're going too fast on your bike, so Dave called it the big canoe trip across the lake. [laughs] Oh, nice. 15 miles an hour is, like, what it goes, basically.
• 7:36
[laughs] When we were- That's great...
• 7:38
in Alaska, we were set up through Princess, and, um, so they've got, you know, on their campus if you wanna call it that, you know, there's bars along the way, but everything's nine bucks.
• 7:49
But we'd stop at these places, and there'd be a gas station across the street or whatever, and I'd just run over there and buy a couple six packs. Mm.
• 7:56
For, you know, it's like, um, 30 bucks for two six packs, or it'd be, you know, f- $10 a beer across the street. So then, but we were preparing to go to our plane...
• 8:07
Or sorry, preparing to get to our ship, and we were, like, getting on this train, and I kept going down to the sidecar and just, like, busting into the bathroom and cracking beers.
• 8:17
[laughs] [laughs] We were on this five-hour train ride, and I'm hammered by the end of it, so... [laughs] That's, that's how The Badger was. Yeah. I was just like, "Okay, let me just go back here."
• 8:25
I was like- I mean, granted, I didn't have to drive. Yeah. I was just being limo'd- Can I say-... by the missus on that one. Well, I, I, I think it's- I'm like, "Fine. Okay, I'm here."
• 8:35
It's, it's very nice because The Badger, the, the crew drives your, your vehicle onto the ship. Not like the Lake Express, where you drive your own on, and you're, you know. Right. Get...
• 8:46
There's pretty tight quarters in that, uh- Yeah... this one is huge. Yeah. It is. In fact- Yeah...
• 8:50
you, you're in there, and it's, like, an asphalt floor, and there's still the railroad tracks from when they used to have... It used to be rail cars were on the bottom. Oh, okay.
• 8:58
And, uh, so it's an old ship from 1950-something, and it's still rolling coal out there. Mm-hmm.
• 9:05
I guess that's what Nomad Sam, that was part of his, uh, when he was in the law profession, was, brought a lot of [laughs] lawsuits against them because of the, uh... Coal?
• 9:15
Yeah, like the- Well- Wha- the spillage into the- Yeah, the, they, they- The, the environmental damage to it. Yeah, they do have a permit- To the lake... to drop ash, I think. Yeah. But yeah.
• 9:24
It was something along those lines. So we're coming out of Manitowoc, and- Sorry I'm Debbie Downering it [laughs] completely, but yeah. Yeah. No, whatever.
• 9:31
I mean, what- wherever it was, I think w- uh, maybe coming out of Ludington, heading towards Manitowoc, and we're offshore, and you can just see the cloud of the coal. Mm-hmm. Mm. But I figure it's heavy particulates.
• 9:43
It's gonna, it's gonna drop out of the sky when it rains anyway. Yeah. Uh, not too many dinosaurs are dying for our trip.
• 9:50
[laughs] But, uh, I recommend it because it's, it's a fun trip, and it's pretty inexpensive compared to the Lake Express. And they, and they do seem to have, like, a bunch of different, uh, options and programs. Yeah.
• 10:02
It's not just a straight away, like, just go across and back. Yeah. They have, like, s- some slow roll night tours at times. Yeah, I'm not sure- Or an overnight dinner cruise.
• 10:12
Yeah, I'm not sure how that w- Stuff like that... I'd have to look at that, but you are correct, sir. They do have some of those. Pardon me. Yeah. [laughs] Um- So guess- Yeah, so I, I, I don't know.
• 10:23
We camped three nights. We went to three different state parks, Silver Lake, Mears, and, um, Ludington Bay, which is beautiful. All good parks. And we tried to avail ourselves of the, "Yeah, we're cyclists.
• 10:39
We're coming in, you know, blah, blah, blah." They all had available spaces, which normally if they're sold out, they'll put you up anyway, and it's less expensive- Mm-hmm... because you don't get a real site. Sure.
• 10:52
But they're 40 bucks a night now for- Right... for a site, which was fine. Um, and w- we lucked into some really good spots, at all the parks actually, so it worked out well. And you didn't get weathered on?
• 11:06
Oh, we got weathered the heck out of Friday night. Oh. But we were already set up, and my tent is so badass, I'm just in there going, "Yeah, bring it on, man."
• 11:15
[laughs] [laughs] 'Cause it was like it- "This is why I spent the money on you." Yeah, yeah. It was coming down, you know? And it was... But it wasn't, like, super windy. It was just the rain was...
• 11:25
We got about an inch and a half, I think, overnight. So, yeah. Everybody seemed to, to come through it pretty well. Uh, Dave has his hammock system. Greg has the tiniest tent I've ever seen.
• 11:35
And mine, mine claims it's a, uh... I think they claim it's a two-person. They might, somebody might even call it a three, and I'm like, "It's definitely a one-person tent."
• 11:46
All those tents are w- if they say three, it's two. If they say four, it's three. Yeah. You know, it's- If they say it's two, it's one. You know, I mean- And, and because I like to have my shit in there.
• 11:54
I like to have it arranged nicely on both sides. Yeah. How am I supposed to read my book and, you know, whatever. [laughs] But yeah, I l- it... So the tent worked out great for a, like s- under four pound tent....
• 12:06
that packs into a thing like that. It's a- Nice... it's a Big Agnes, um- Mm... copper whatever, copper spur bike packing version, so they have the really short poles. They're like that long. Oh, sure.
• 12:18
Yeah, so it fits on your handlebar. It's a super, it's like just it's made to go on your handlebar. Cool. And it, it worked out great. Um- That's great... something...
• 12:25
Hey, something else, 'cause it's sitting right there. I wanna, I wanna say something about this, because I don't know if you guys have ever seen this type of a thing, but there's...
• 12:34
Like, your big companies, like your, your Silcas and your other peoples that are in the bike industry that have the big bike names sell these things for, like, 100-plus dollars, and it is a, an inflator for your tires when you- Mm-hmm...
• 12:47
need air in your tires. And this one was, mm, 35 bucks maybe. I'll put a link in the show notes, and if you buy it and I, I might get a little commission and it won't, won't cost you any more. But anyway, 35 bucks.
• 13:00
[laughs] And so what we do is, you know, drop the pressure down when you're on the sand. Sure. Yeah.
• 13:05
So you're, you know, like, five in the front, seven in the back or whatever, and then you wanna get on the, the transition stage on the road. That mushiness is no [laughs] good at all. No.
• 13:15
So this thing, um, I pumped up my two tires and Dave's two tires from, like, beach pressure to road pressure, and it, it didn't even bat an eyelash. It was just... It was awesome. And the reason why [laughs]... Oh.
• 13:33
Oh. The re- the reason why I have this red thing here, this is a, uh, Stan's NoTubes valve core tool.
• 13:40
Because if your valve core is loose and this thing screws on there like a lot of pumps do, and you unscrew it, sometimes you'll pop your valve core out of your Presta valve and you're like, "Oh, God damn it."
• 13:50
You put your thumb on there and then you're like, "Well-" Now you're stuck... "but where's my tool? 'Cause I left the tool at home."
• 13:56
Don't leave your tool, or make sure they're really tight just so, you know, you don't pop that core out of there and then you just have to go through the whole process of putting air back in there again.
• 14:06
But I'm pretty... This is an Amazon thing. I'm pretty stoked with it so far. I mean, it, it's, it's got weight to it. It feels like it's solid. Feel that thing. Yeah. Yeah, there's a big battery in there and stuff.
• 14:15
So I- It- I thought it was of the s- [laughs] I thought it was of the vape- Oh. [laughs]... variety. From a distance, I was just like- Ooh. [laughs]... "Um, mm." Yeah, no, it kinda does look like that, doesn't it?
• 14:24
Yeah, it looks... Yeah, and I was like, "Okay." This is the water part? As I... Yeah, as I'm talking about it [laughs] I'm just like- Yeah... "Damn." I'm just like, "Eh, everybody wants the vape and brr brr brr." Yeah.
• 14:32
I mean, we could briefly talk about dispensaries over there, but I, well, I will say this. I was expecting them, like, every 3, 400 feet. No. There was ve- I think we... There was- Yeah, I've said that...
• 14:42
there was basically two in the area that we were in that we could probably get to, and I will give Super Good, Super Good near, um... They're really, um, super good. They're super good. It's a- actually a good name.
• 14:55
Um, because we were first... It was our first visit. They're like, "We're gonna give you a free gift. It's a half ounce of weed for free." [laughs] I'm like, "All right. I guess.
• 15:09
I mean, I don't really smoke the flower anymore, but I will take it and figure out something to do with it." I do not- But, but their gummy prices are ridiculously low. Yeah. Wow, okay. Ridiculously low.
• 15:20
Like- For whatever dumbass reason, I just did not go. I did not stop. Yeah. I... So this- It just still ticks, it ticks me off to no end. This one is- I'll have to do another trip...
• 15:28
this one is just outside of Ludington, like, maybe four or five miles w- um- Mm-hmm... east of Ludington. And yeah, super good. It's an a- it's an apropos name for sure. Yeah.
• 15:41
When I go up in a few weeks, my goal is to be on the road by 6:00. So should hit the UP probably around, I don't know, 10:00. By then I think stuff is open, but usually I'm just, like, so jazzed to...
• 15:53
And, like, Jess y- like, takes gummies to help her, like, sleep and, you know, calm some nerves and whatever. Not so much for, like, recreational use. Sure, sure. I, I feel you.
• 16:02
And, um, so I never really think about it, but I, I think I'll probably make a stop, 'cause yeah, all these places, they just hand you. It's like- Yeah... "Here, have a gift just for coming in.
• 16:11
Here's a little something," you know? Yeah. "Okay." Well, like, uh, I, I- Spend $10, we'll hand you 30 worth. Have a gummy. Don't cost nothing. Yeah.
• 16:18
Well, I'm a pretty big fan of 10 milligram, 'cause I know how to dose that if I want. Mm-hmm. And it's usually half a one or a one. And, like, five bags [laughs] so 500 milligrams, 15 bucks. Yeah. Yeah.
• 16:31
It's ridiculous- It's funny... how inexpensive it is. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I did a 20, a 20, uh, w- at the, uh, last place in Indiana. It's a motel. Alan Sally's Motel on Highway 12. They had a fire pit outside.
• 16:49
[laughs] And they just kept a, like a bunch of logs and you could just have a bonfire in the front all the time. And you're supposed to have a, a pool. Pool's been under construction for about seven years. [laughs] Nice.
• 17:01
[laughs] And everybody goes, just like, "Well..." Do they have a pond? 'Cause- Not even that, no... a pond would be good for you. No. [laughs] Right. I was just like, "Oh, Christ." Du- du- du- da.
• 17:10
It's right on the railroad tracks and I mean, and a nuclear cooling tower. Yeah. It was just a funky damn town. Oh, that's Michigan City. Yeah. Yeah. Just a funky damn town, man. Yeah.
• 17:20
[laughs] So yeah, so we'll probably talk more about Michigan next week. I got plenty of stuff. There, there's stories upon stories from Michigan. But since Corey's here this week, let's do a little Riverwest 24 action.
• 17:31
It's- Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding... it's coming up here on the 24... It's 24 on the 24th, right? I think so, yeah. I think it is. Yeah, it's the 24th and 25th, so.
• 17:39
That would be a, it'd be like a week from f- this c- Friday. It's like a w- Yeah... it's a week away. I can't believe summer's half over or, or more. Yeah. Yeah, it's- You're gonna have to go back to work pretty soon.
• 17:48
Yeah. And, and- And- But, uh, but Corey, you're still the, uh, the bonus checkpoint, uh, king, right? Yeah. Yeah. Um, uh, is king even a word that we should be using at this point?
• 18:00
[laughs] Um, but yeah, I'm the manager and, uh, yeah, and so we have 36 bonuses this year. We scaled back from 48. It was just, it was kinda just too much. Um, you know, people enjoy it, but also then...
• 18:15
quality versus quantity- Sure... type thing. Yeah. Yeah. And, um, I mean, if the point is to be riding your bike, I don't want people to spend, I mean, your, what's 48 times 15 minutes, 20 minutes, you know?
• 18:27
Like, that amount of time- Yeah... not on their bike. So- Well, it's like half your time or more. Right. Right. Yeah. So I wanna, I wanted to get back to encouraging riding laps and, um...
• 18:37
But still, you know, make sure that people are getting involved in their community and, and doing other little fun nonsense things. Yeah. And the course is a little different this year than...
• 18:47
I, I know there's a new checkpoint one and, um, I don't know what's going on with checkpoint three. Those are a couple question marks. Yeah. Check- checkpoint three is no longer the party checkpoint that it used to be.
• 18:58
That is gonna shift over to checkpoint one, where it's a little bit more lawless. Uh- Mm-hmm... those, those condos are a little bit more law. [laughs] Yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Right. Yeah. Fuck those guys.
• 19:07
Um, yeah, I know. Um- Well, construction too doesn't help- Yeah... over there. Right.
• 19:13
So right now there, there is a plan in motion to make it, you know, still fun and entertaining, but to do it at, you know, respectable noise levels and, and whatever.
• 19:25
Um, we were at our bonus meeting last night, which also kinda overlapped to the, our AV team's meeting, and so they were kinda sharing ideas of what they were thinking about doing for checkpoint three.
• 19:37
So, um, be, be ready for something down there, but we're... We don't know what. Mm-hmm. And then, uh, yeah, and then checkpoint one
• 19:46
is gonna be along the beer line, and we determined that that's gonna be somewhere between Booth and Humboldt on Keefe? No, it, well, that, the park is on, it's on Holton and Townsend. Holton and Townsend.
• 19:58
If that's where- Yeah. Did I say Humboldt? Yeah. I meant Holton. Yeah, if that's where the... It's just behind the Family Dollar Store. Yeah. Yep. Or just north of there. Yeah.
• 20:04
Yeah, that's the, that's- South of Rhett Lounge. Right. Right. Yeah, by Rhett Lounge. Yeah. Yeah, that's Townsend. So it used... Checkpoint one used to be on Townsend, like, three blocks- Yep... east of there. Yep.
• 20:14
And this is just go west three blocks and it's right on Holton. Yeah. And so you'll follow those people. Um, we're encouraging not to ride, to maybe just head more east. There's, there's a whole route.
• 20:24
If you go on the Route 24 Facebook or some social something or other, you'll see what the suggested route is gonna be. Um, you know, and, and you can take whatever route you want. Nobody's gonna stop you.
• 20:37
But, you know, just keep in mind that, you know, other people are gonna be coming against you, and the beer line isn't the widest thing, so. Right. Yeah, yeah, for sure. You know.
• 20:45
Um, I personally, and I think JK as well, did not decide to register this year. Did not. I will be doing more videoing and photoing and, uh- I was just late to the lottery, that's all [laughs] [laughs]
• 21:00
That wasn't on purpose. It was- Does it have anything to do with-... it was just in, in practice... a trip to Michigan or? It was just an incidental- Yeah...
• 21:07
incidental timing of, like, waking up at 6:00 in the morning and then like, "Oh, I got time. I'll take a nap." And then noon. You guys notice that Charlie Brown shirt that he's wearing over there?
• 21:17
I, I noticed that right away. Corey, lean back just a little so everybody can see that in- Yeah... its full glory. There you go. Good grief. Yeah. Yeah. I, uh, so I... But that was in Florida.
• 21:25
That was, uh, that was at- Oh, yeah... some other events. It's, it's been getting its due or getting its way. Exactly. It was... Yeah, yeah. Well, we, we... It was purchased in the, uh, heading down to Miami.
• 21:37
You know, it's like, "Oh, instead of getting, like, Hawaiian shirts for that, you know, or just buying them down there, overpaying, hey, I'll just Amazon it- Yeah, there you go... and whatever."
• 21:46
And I'm just like, "Well, I just don't need to get a normal one. If I'm looking for one, I'm gonna look for funky ones." Yeah. Right on.
• 21:52
And I found, I saw that, ran across this one, and have a, a great one that looks like every other Hawaiian shirt, but it's got Sam Squanches all over it. You know, and got a nice handful of them. Yeah.
• 22:02
And I wore that up in the UP, which was working out nicely, 'cause Sault Ste Marie, it's like bing, bing, bing, bing, bing. Yep. Sa- Just-... Sasquatch sightings everywhere? Well, at least in the stores.
• 22:13
Do you wanna d- [laughs] Do you wanna do the honors? I do. Since we were- So do I...
• 22:16
talking about hills before, I did, I d- have no idea when I got to the top of any hill, but there were many hills in Michigan, and you may. Many hills and valleys. [bell ringing] Ebbs and flows.
• 22:27
This, uh- That felt good... this week's, uh, show is, is brought to us by Dogfish Head. Dogfish Head. Dogfish. Yeah. However you wanna emphasize that. Dog- Fish... Fish Head. Head... Fish Heads. There is- Fish Heads.
• 22:39
There is- Roly Poly Fish Heads, Fish Heads, Fish Heads. Eat 'em up, yum, yum. That's my favorite song when I was a toddler. [laughs] This is a 60 Minute IPA from these fine folks at Dogfish Head.
• 22:50
And, uh, I don't know, continually hopped for 60 minutes for an enticing and magnificent hop-centric experience. It's fantastically hoppy and beautifully balanced.
• 22:59
I will give it a thumbs up because I think it's really good. Yeah. Um, I just- It drinks well. Yeah, it's easy going. Yeah, I don't know much about their cr- uh, ABV or any of that stuff. Six.
• 23:11
I'm gonna guess it's six and a half or- Yeah... somewhere in there. This is a six. Is it a six? Yeah. All right, six. That's what it said on the box. Okay. When we s- Well, I should've kept the box.
• 23:19
We brew our culinary inspire... Oh, for Christ's sake. Culinary. They just said culinary inspired- Beer, beers... beers. Beer, beer of the brewer Stop it. Stop. Okay. I, I, I'm fine with the beer. It's good.
• 23:34
Just stop putting [laughs] stupid words on your cans. Yeah. Just say it's g- it's good drinking beer. You're gonna like that stuff. Right. They have a tree house at their brewery. Just- Come on... Oh, there you go. Yeah.
• 23:45
Yeah. They're eccentric cats. Probably got the marijuana up in there too. Well, it's Delaware. Who knows? I don't know. [laughs] I don't, I have no idea what that means. [laughs] I'm, I'm, I, I like it.
• 23:54
I, I would like to have more of it. In fact, I will, 'cause here's another can right here. 'Cause every so often... Well, they have the- Cleverly... 60, the 90, 120. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. The 120 is a- Knee breaker. Yeah...
• 24:06
I mean- It's also, like, impossible to find. It's pretty, I think it's pretty limited. Uh, that guy was on- They definitely have the 90 at Otto's, but I don't know that I've seen the 120.
• 24:14
The 120, I think, is a pretty limited thing. There was a, like, a Netflix documentary- Mm-hmm...
• 24:19
series about this guy- Mm-hmm Uh, I don't know if it's still available, but- They had, yeah, they had, like, a TLC or- Yeah... Discovery- Yeah, so it was-... series for a little short period of time- Yeah... at least.
• 24:29
Seems like a pretty good dude. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. A little, like, hey- Like a mixed good fucking beer. Yeah. Yeah. Like, hey, I wanna make beer, and hey, I wanna... Hey, let's make a tree house here. Yeah.
• 24:36
And hey, let's... You know? Cou- couple more things to mention before we get the hell out of here. Uh, we did talk about... Oh, it's July 25th and 26th, your Riverwest 24. Oh, well. 24, 25. So maybe next year.
• 24:46
24 on the 25th. Maybe next year. So I think the 24th would be the earliest, 'cause that would make the 31st a Friday, and then you couldn't do it. Right, on the... Right?
• 24:55
So the next- Right, so it's the last full weekend. Yeah, next year might be the earliest it could be. Yeah. Uh, so that's- I, I don't pay attention to dates- Nah... in the summer.
• 25:01
I'm just like- It's always at the end of the summer... next Friday? All right, I'll be there. Right. Uh, Daikaiju, coming July 28th, X-Ray Arcade. Monday, Monday, Monday. Yeah. Wow. Awesome show. Yeah.
• 25:12
I mean, I don't know, if you've ever been to a Daikaiju show, you should go to a Daikaiju show. They were almost, uh, part of the 24 last year, weren't they? True, true.
• 25:20
Well, we tried to get them to do it, and I don't know, m- m- there was a- I think the financial stakes were a little high. Yeah. Well, a thousand bucks is what they would've- Yeah... played for.
• 25:30
And that means we could've charged at the door to get them, and, and it would've been fine. Yeah. And David was open to the idea, because being part of the 24 is, like, a badass thing. Right.
• 25:42
So, uh, uh, maybe next time or some other time, but they're in, they're always here in about the zone of the 24- Yeah. Yeah... it seems like, so. Well, they were in Vegas Pub by- Yeah... after, like, closing time. Yeah.
• 25:57
Oh, they went and hung out at Vegas? Yeah. [laughs] Right? Oh, right. Yeah. And I was just like... I'm like, God damn it. Yeah. I'm like, let me in. Let me in. I want to hang out with you. So James, uh- Yeah.
• 26:05
[laughs] James, who- I was just a little late... who works at, at Vegas, had talked to David a bunch about trying to get something going, and I tried to get them at Uptowner- Mm-hmm...
• 26:14
which would've been great, 'cause they were, they would... could've been there by 1:00 AM. Mm-hmm.
• 26:18
And you do, they do a 45-minute show, and I'm sure with as many people who were around could, you know, pony up some cash. If I had the- Sure... I would've just funded it, but I'm currently broke, so I can't. Yeah.
• 26:30
[laughs] But when I'm back flush, I will fly them in to do these shows, 'cause they're so fun. Um- Yeah, I, I haven't had a chance to see them except for, like, on video. Ah. Uh, so one of these- Got to go to the show...
• 26:42
one of these times, I will, yeah. And then, and then they're playing on a Monday, which- So I thought you might like to go to the show...
• 26:48
unfortunately, I've got a big softball game that night, so I gotta- Oh my God, softball. I'm the starting pitcher. I can't just- Oh, are you doing the, you're doing the, the high-ass lob pitching, right? Yeah.
• 26:57
[laughs] How high can... I, I know it's unlimited, but what does that... W- ultimately, what does unlimited actually mean in practice? 15, 20 feet, somewhere in there.
• 27:05
So it's, so it's coming down at this kind of angle in front of you? Like, yeah, it goes up and then it just drops straight in the middle. Yeah. How'd you learn how to do that? Practice. Yeah. Yeah.
• 27:13
It's kind of like shooting hoops. Yeah. Except- 'Cause you, you slam a couple drinks before you go out in the f- on the- So you're trying, you're basically trying to land the softball on the plate. Yeah. Right?
• 27:21
It's like, it's like darts or bowling, you know? Oh. Like, or pool. I do darts. I do darts. You know if... But, but you know, like, how you find that, you find your wave- Oh, yeah... and then that's, like, your wave?
• 27:33
You know, and you just gotta- Oh, oh, like the dart sweet spot? You, yeah, you gotta- The toxicity? Yeah. You... It's like I've got 20- I've got-... 20 minutes...
• 27:39
I've got two or three beers in me, and like- Yep, boom, boom, boom, boom... yeah. I'm just nailing them. Be like, I can maybe have one more, but if I have any more- And then, oh, man... than that, I'm gonna lose it.
• 27:46
Yeah. Yeah. I used to, I used to play with the best dart players in the city on several different teams, so I got pretty decent at it, but I could never really beat the best guys.
• 27:56
These guys were going to Vegas, they're going to tournaments. Except at 5:00 in the morning- [laughs]... when we had been up all night. Yeah. And then they weren't that good anymore.
• 28:05
[laughs] It's like, I got my second wind coming, bap, bap, bap. [laughs] Uh, also here's another date that might m- interest some people around here. August 9th,
• 28:16
full moon, Saturday night, Port Washington, Wisconsin, beach ride. I'm... It's gonna be the highlight of my summer. I'm... Yes. I'm, I'm, I'm mentally planning that one- Yeah... preparing and...
• 28:31
Just, I mean, this, this entire damn summer is going at warp speed. Exactly. Yeah. It's like August 9th- At the passing... And it's no surprise. I mean, it's like- I have to s-...
• 28:40
err, err, ferr, ferr, ferr, ferr, ferr... I know, I know Wendy knows this, but that's also the night of my anniversary. It's, it's the 27th, I think. So- I'll have to do the math again, but it's in there.
• 28:51
So it's not a, it's not a 30, it's 27 maybe. It's all right, baby, I'll take you out for dinner some other night. [laughs] But yeah, we're, I, we, you know- As long as we celebrate. Time is a flat circle.
• 29:03
I mean, we've- Yeah. Yeah. We do that. We're like, you know what? This, our anniversary's tonight, but, you know, we've had other things. We've just, we just- Is it tonight? We have the right... No. No, no, no.
• 29:12
[laughs] I'm just saying in general. I gotta do a podcast tonight. Oh my God, you're on the show. [laughs] Sorry.
• 29:17
You're just better off, I mean, going out, like, on a Friday or something instead of trying to squeeze something in on a Tuesday night, for example. Yeah. Well, right. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
• 29:25
It's Taco Tuesday, honey. Mm-hmm. Anything off the value meal here at Taco Bell. Yeah. Um, [laughs] that's a good for you- Yeah. That's probably where we're going this year. [laughs] Uh, I don't know- Taco John's though.
• 29:35
Man... have you seen, have you seen the Jack Black Mr. Crowley video with, with Roman Murillo on guitar and- I haven't watched the video. I don't think so, no. I've, I've, I've heard- Damn, it's good...
• 29:44
I've, I've heard the fun stuff of it. I, there's, there's a link in the show notes. Uh, Tony put that one in there. Okay. And, uh, I, it j-
• 29:51
he, Jack Black is good enough, and I think Roman Murillo, Tom Morello's son, is, like, 13 years old. Okay. And if... He's Randy Rhoads-ing the shit out of that shit. Really? Oh my God, he's so good.
• 30:03
[laughs] For a- Cool... for a 13-year-old kid. Well, yeah, he got, he got to grow up with- Well, the rest of the- Yeah... the rest of the band- Tom Morello. It was like- [laughs] Yeah.
• 30:09
I don't think anybody else in the band is over 15. Okay. So the bass player, you know, drummer- Oh, yeah... and a keyboard player. So it was like that whole, like, School of Rock- Yeah... kind of vibe. [singing] Yeah.
• 30:22
[singing]Mr. Crowley. Oh, and he does it in- Oh, oh, oh... well, Jack Black does it in his Jack Black style, which is... We, we should watch it after this. I can put it- Yeah...
• 30:34
I can put it on the big screen, and we'll- Well, he's all-... put it through the speakers... he's all, like, furry. Like, wide furry.
• 30:38
Guys- He's sort of getting large in them So- Well, that, and then it doesn't help- Ah... with the wideness of the beard. I know this- Right... because I've had the wideness- Yeah... of the beard.
• 30:46
Yeah, I've s- And I've, I've gone, like, wow. I shave it off, and they're like, "Wow, did you lose some weight?" I'm like, "Well, yeah, in a way." Yeah. Got a little younger?
• 30:54
No, I just shaved this off, and so I don't look as fat. All right. Do you have something to do tonight? Uh, we have essentially our last, like, real Riverwest 24 meeting of the year.
• 31:06
Um, and then next week we will have our live meeting from a secret location that will be- Dun, dun, dun... on some kinda social something or other. We're getting away from Facebook, but so it might be on YouTube Live.
• 31:19
I don't know. Yeah. Facebook is kind of a pariah, but- Yeah. Uh- So- All right then. Well, um, we'll see you tonight f- [laughs] Yeah. Oh, um- At, at Sabbatic.
• 31:29
It might be a little, on short notice, but Robits is playing at Sabbatic- Oh, that. Yes... on Thursday, which is today. Yeah. Apparently. And last I- Yeah, I don't, I don't understand, uh, podcast time zones.
• 31:40
[laughs] I know. It was b- it was bending my hair, like, when, uh, j- just going to Michigan. I was like, wait, it is 1:00? It doesn't feel... Why? Where? Yeah. When did they change it? How? It's an hour. Hour. Hour.
• 31:55
A whole hour. It happens when you- You're never gonna get that back... y- y- you go on the lake. Yeah. Yeah. You pay, you pay it forward when you go over, and you collect it when you come back. Except- What a deal...
• 32:03
and then it comes back, yeah, in Indiana. So the last two nights- Ugh... I was back in the Central, so I didn't- You didn't really feel it. No. Yeah. It was confusing.
• 32:12
But yeah, to, uh, just real quick, um, yeah, we, uh... Robits are playing and, um, let's see. Who else is playing? I know. I was sniffing around for this too. Uh, Nerve Wrecker
• 32:26
and Habitat for Insanity, and there's one other band whose, uh, name I cannot think of. Would you say this is a punk rock show? I would call it a punk rock show at Sabbatic. It's free, but donations are encouraged.
• 32:39
Right on. And so- That's a, it's an awesome venue. Yeah. Guess, guess who I saw there? Daikaiju. Did you? Super, super awesome show. Really? When, when was that? I don't know. It was a while back.
• 32:49
It was after The Corrs show but before the X-Ray Arcade show. Okay. [laughs] Yeah, before, like, X- Here, here we go... before X-Ray became kinda k- their- Um... like, de facto home.
• 32:59
Cause of Infliction is the other band. Nice. [laughs] And, uh, it says they're from Hawaii. Wow, these- So- So these are actual touring bands. Yeah. They're not, they're not local schleps like you. Yeah, yeah.
• 33:08
Not like us. Right? [laughs] Well, I will say this, uh, I cannot believe that you, that they didn't have Fuel open again for Flat Out Friday when you guys shredded the year before- I know...
• 33:20
and had the best mosh pit in the last 10 years. W- yeah, and if they would've held it open for another, like, four days, they would've made a killing. Yeah. They still would've closed either way- Yeah. Right...
• 33:28
but at least they could've recouped something. Yeah. And you would've got to play there again. Well, potentially. And we would've gotten to play there, and we probably would've got another, like, 500 bucks.
• 33:35
Yeah, well- [laughs]... you know, it's better than a sharp stick in the eye, like my daddy always used to say. That's right. Yeah. All right then. And, uh, coming up in February. Yeah.
• 33:43
If they still haven't done anything with the spot, maybe you can just rent it out and just- Eh?... show it out. [laughs] Oh, yeah. All right. Well, thanks, Andy. Uh, thank, tha- thank, thank you very much, Corey.
• 33:52
That's it. That's all. Yeah. I know we didn't talk a ton about, uh, Riverwest- No, we, we covered as much as we needed to. Well, here's the thing. We can't talk about a bunch of it anyways. We don't want to.
• 33:58
Right, right. So, so- All the bonuses are kinda top secret... super secret... so- Um- Everything else, most people know about... all the in- all the infighting and all the whatever.
• 34:06
We're, we'll talk about that after the record. Yeah. Well, thanks for having me, as always. No, you're, it's, it's fun when you're here. I look forward to the next time. It's fun when you're here. Yeah.
• 34:13
Uh, JK, thanks for coming back from Michigan, and, uh, yeah. Slightly in one piece. Right on. Yeah.
• 34:18
And I had a great time last night at Diggable Planets, which wasn't canceled because it ain't fricking raining tonight, last night. Uh-huh. All right. Mm-hmm. Internet times. 'Cause it's cool like that. Cool like that.
• 34:29
Chilling. Uh- Let's smoke like that.
• 34:35
  [rock music]
