Alex Murdaugh's Retrial Moved Amid New Weapons Allegations
Alex Murdaugh’s second murder trial is now scheduled for Sumter County, about eighty miles from the courthouse where he was convicted in 2023. Judge Debra McCaslin moved the case after finding that Murdaugh could not receive a fair and impartial retrial in Colleton County or elsewhere in the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit. The first jury-selection process had already disqualified most of the people summoned, and McCaslin said later publicity and the Becky Hill jury-interference case only deepened the problem.
