Scientists, working on the genetic code in humans, found out there are two sets of chromosomes. The X set. And the Y set. That sets the stage for chromosome mapping. In a male, both an X and a Y chromosome are present. So, guys have an XY configuration. In a female, there are two X chromosomes. So, girls have an XX configuration. The X chromosome is therefore one of the two sex chromosomes that determines an individual’s gender.
