- 0:27Welcome to a very special episode of the Pop Culture Junkie podcast. I'm Olivia here with my fellow junkies.
- 0:34Nicole and Shauna.
- 0:37So ladies, I'm so excited to be joining you again this week. I have been thinking about my summer plans basically all week.
- 0:46And I'm really excited to hear what are you guys most looking forward to this summer.
- 0:52Whether it be pop culture wines, personal plans, music, TV, tell me what you're most looking forward to this summer.
- 1:02I am looking forward to this goddamn boot coming off of my foot.
- 1:08Maybe my time this episode airs. I'll be walking freely with two feet.
- 1:14You're just forever in a bit.
- 1:16I know it's I'm struggling. I'm struggling mentally. I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:22And I'm moving right now.
- 1:24She is not new boot goofin.
- 1:27I am not new boot goofin.
- 1:28In the beginning I was like, "Oh, me and this will be fine."
- 1:30And now I'm like, "This is starting to fuck with me. This is affecting me mentally."
- 1:38And I'm moving. So that'll be fun.
- 1:40So it's just been a lot of fun.
- 1:42I'm like, "Thank you, thank you."
- 1:46Everybody's snap.
- 1:48Shona's a homeowner now.
- 1:50I mean, I was a homeowner before, but now I'm like a house owner.
- 1:54Now I'm choosing.
- 1:56All right.
- 1:58So the poor with no homes.
- 2:04Everybody would ever home you have.
- 2:07Everybody deserves a home.
- 2:09Absolutely.
- 2:11Pop culture wise. I am very excited.
- 2:13So there is...
- 2:15Anybody who watched WandaVision on Disney Plus a couple years ago remembers Ag of the...
- 2:21And she's finally getting her own TV show.
- 2:25It's been teased for a while that Marvel couldn't decide on a title for the show.
- 2:33So it's gone through the following title changes.
- 2:37The only Agatha I want to know in my life is Agatha Christie.
- 2:41And I'll just say that out.
- 2:43Is Agatha who?
- 2:45Agatha Christie. What do you mean?
- 2:47Oh, I don't know how that is.
- 2:49She's like an author. She's like the original murder mystery girlie.
- 2:53Oh, love that.
- 2:55Well, this Agatha is a witch.
- 2:57I don't know how to spell that.
- 2:59It's been Agatha Coven of Chaos.
- 3:01Agatha House of Harkness.
- 3:03Agatha Delighting Witch with the really great wardrobe.
- 3:05Oh, I actually kind of love that.
- 3:07That's sweet.
- 3:09But it kind of became a joke that Marvel couldn't decide on what to name this show.
- 3:13And finally, it came out recently that the title of the show is Agatha All Along.
- 3:21So all of those title changes were all part of the marketing.
- 3:25Like, oh, it's just been Agatha All Along, like the song from WandaVision.
- 3:29Oh.
- 3:31So...
- 3:33Agatha's like, what are you doing?
- 3:35All the names felt like an Easter egg.
- 3:37So I guess I was picking up what they were putting down there.
- 3:39Yeah, I think it's going to be really cute.
- 3:41Agatha's definitely not like a making character in Marvel.
- 3:45But she was definitely a hit on WandaVision.
- 3:49And Catherine Hahn is the hilarious, amazing actress.
- 3:53And so I'm really excited to see where they go with this.
- 3:55Kevin Feige has been really open about wanting to roll back the Marvel content that they're making after the Marvels didn't do too well.
- 4:01So I think they're only going to be putting out, gosh, maybe two.
- 4:05I think they said movies a year, like two shows, where before it was like, bam, bam, bam, all this Marvel content.
- 4:11Just to make sure that the quality is there for everything.
- 4:13So I'm really excited for Agatha.
- 4:15I've mentioned it before, but I'm excited for Deadpool and Wolverine.
- 4:19And then I guess it's not something that I'm excited for, but it's something that I watched recently.
- 4:25Can I talk about that too?
- 4:27Oh, I'll allow it.
- 4:31Okay. Thank you. Thank you, Mommy.
- 4:33Yes, dude.
- 4:35So, I watched this movie recently called Late Night with the Devil.
- 4:41And I can't stop thinking about it.
- 4:45Have you guys heard of this movie?
- 4:47I have heard of it mainly because of the uproar that came from the AI art within the mess.
- 4:55And I didn't know that until after I watched the movie.
- 4:59So it's definitely not glaring where the AI comes in in this film.
- 5:03Yeah. I've seen the art that they use.
- 5:05And it's very like pop art.
- 5:09Yeah, it's of the time art.
- 5:11Exactly.
- 5:13Exactly.
- 5:13It's made by AI.
- 5:15So I could see that.
- 5:17But yeah, it's interesting because it's an indie movie.
- 5:19Can you give us a spoiler free?
- 5:21Yes.
- 5:23Spoiler free review.
- 5:25I definitely think that you guys would both really like this movie because you both like horror films.
- 5:31So it's set in my horror.
- 5:33And my horror.
- 5:35It's my little horror film.
- 5:37It's set in 1977 and it stars David Dustmall Sheen.
- 5:43That's my best attempt at it.
- 5:45You did that well.
- 5:47I'm sorry.
- 5:49I'm sorry.
- 5:49I always read it as David Dalmatian whenever I see it written out.
- 5:51I play "Pokodotman" in suicide school.
- 5:53So I'm like David Dalmatian.
- 5:55Okay.
- 5:57He's a good boy.
- 5:59He's a good boy.
- 6:01He's a good boy.
- 6:03So he plays a late night talk show host who is kind of the back end of his career.
- 6:09He's not putting up the numbers that Johnny Carson is putting up.
- 6:13So in order to get that one final shot to revitalize his career, he invites on a psychic medium.
- 6:19And then also a girl who is supposedly possessed by the devil or possessed by a demon.
- 6:25And then the woman who can communicate with the demon.
- 6:27And they're going to do a live broadcast of said demon on the show.
- 6:33I'll leave it at that.
- 6:35The entire movie is set like you're watching a 1970s talk show.
- 6:39It's like you're watching an old episode of the tonight show.
- 6:43And then those title cards, the AI art, is basically like a movie.
- 6:47The AI art is basically like we're back.
- 6:51So it's like their title cards when they come back to the episode.
- 6:55So I didn't think it was that glaring.
- 6:57At the same time, I don't know why they couldn't just have somebody design those.
- 7:01I could have done that.
- 7:03It is.
- 7:03Call me.
- 7:05Yeah, you're like I'm available for hire.
- 7:07I guess.
- 7:09It is interesting because it's an indie film.
- 7:11And so like that is their justification of why they're doing it.
- 7:15Low budget.
- 7:17Budget is hard when you're making an indie film.
- 7:21Absolutely.
- 7:21I do think that like it is one of the first like commercial movies to come out since the saga after strikes.
- 7:31So it is kind of yeah.
- 7:32And really interesting argument.
- 7:34I follow a lot of like movie TikTokers and they were talking about this movie.
- 7:39And they actually had seen like a private screening of it before it had even come out.
- 7:43And they weren't aware of it.
- 7:45And they were like it is kind of this juxtaposition of okay, well, we're very against AI art and taking jobs from creatives.
- 7:53But it is one of those things where it's very hard to get funding.
- 7:58And if you can do that in a good way where it doesn't look cheap, you know, that is a good thing.
- 8:03I wouldn't have known.
- 8:05I didn't know the entire movie.
- 8:06And then I was watching a review afterwards.
- 8:08This YouTuber named Jeremy Johns that we like.
- 8:10And he mentioned it.
- 8:11And I was like, oh shit, like I had to really look it back.
- 8:14And they're like, okay, now I see where they did that.
- 8:17And so I see both arguments for it.
- 8:19It didn't take away from the movie.
- 8:21I think it added to the movie that they had the title cards because it makes you feel like you're really watching an old episode of like a talk show.
- 8:29I definitely recommend this movie.
- 8:31We did paste 799 to rent it.
- 8:34It's on shutter.
- 8:35It's on shutter.
- 8:36Yeah.
- 8:37It's on shutter.
- 8:38It's on shutter.
- 8:39Oh, I watched Iron Claw.
- 8:41That's streaming for free now on max if anybody has that.
- 8:44That is good.
- 8:45And I cried.
- 8:46Very depressing.
- 8:48Oh, so depressing.
- 8:50It's so fucking depressing.
- 8:52Are you old?
- 8:53And Zach Efron is ripped out of his mind in this movie.
- 8:56Like they're all on steroids.
- 8:58They are all on steroids.
- 9:00You do not get bothered by that.
- 9:01Zach Efron is like, I don't know how to describe it.
- 9:05He looks like a Lego man.
- 9:09He's just very small.
- 9:11Nicole, have you seen this movie?
- 9:13No, I haven't.
- 9:14Okay.
- 9:15Have you seen the poster for it?
- 9:17If I've seen it, yeah, probably.
- 9:19Like a buff.
- 9:20Who's Zach Efron?
- 9:21Google right now.
- 9:22He looks like Lord Farquad.
- 9:24He has a Lord Farquad here.
- 9:26Oh, yeah.
- 9:27And yes.
- 9:28Okay.
- 9:29Yes.
- 9:30But like, Lord Farquad.
- 9:31Yeah.
- 9:32Lord Farquad and Shrek merged into one lesson.
- 9:36Stop like this.
- 9:37Don't worry guys.
- 9:38We're not rehashing the 50 shades of Shrek episode.
- 9:43We will.
- 9:44Sean had put on the sexy voice, but we will not be revisiting that.
- 9:50Unless that is Nicole's what she's looking forward to this summer.
- 9:54Then I can't believe this one.
- 9:56Yeah, she's looking forward to us reading some more fanfic.
- 9:58What do you want?
- 9:59What do you looking forward to?
- 10:00I mean, maybe.
- 10:01Maybe.
- 10:02Maybe.
- 10:03Maybe.
- 10:04Maybe.
- 10:05AO3 in my future.
- 10:07What I'm looking forward to is honestly not too much movies or TV, but a book.
- 10:16Oh.
- 10:17And it's a book by one of my favorite offers I recently just discovered her.
- 10:22Her name is TJ Newman.
- 10:24And she actually lives in Phoenix.
- 10:26Oh, cool.
- 10:27And.
- 10:28Yes.
- 10:29And my two favorite books by her are originally asked to books out, but they're honestly my favorite
- 10:35books.
- 10:36They're called falling and drowning.
- 10:40And her new book coming out in August is called Worst Case scenario.
- 10:44And so she's a previous flight attendant.
- 10:47So her books are about things that happen on planes that the flight attendants have to
- 10:51kind of figure out what to do.
- 10:52I think I've talked about these books before actually on the podcast.
- 10:55They sound really interesting.
- 10:57They really are.
- 10:58So her new Worst Case scenario is about a plane that crashes into a power plant.
- 11:04Oh.
- 11:05And so this whole town has to come together to kind of figure out I think what to do.
- 11:10So I'm super, super excited to read that because I've obviously read her first two books
- 11:14and I was intrigued them in a minute.
- 11:15I started reading both of them.
- 11:17And maybe a flight attendant I am just really involved in these types of books because knock
- 11:24on wood, hopefully none of these things ever happened to me while I'm working, but if they
- 11:28were, reading her books kind of helps me put in perspective what I should do in these
- 11:33types of scenarios.
- 11:34I mean, if my plane were to crash into a power plant, I'm sure I would be dead.
- 11:39Oh, yeah.
- 11:40Or shortly after.
- 11:42I've seen Chernobyl.
- 11:43Okay, baby.
- 11:44Let's be real.
- 11:46But it's not a high chance along the way.
- 11:51That'll make some great fiction.
- 11:53Is that a non-faculair power plant or is it just a regular power plant?
- 11:58You know what?
- 11:59Let's give a look because I know it's out there.
- 12:01If she's in Phoenix, maybe it's like Palo Verde or something.
- 12:06We should try to get around the show.
- 12:08Hey girl.
- 12:09So Phoenix Girlie.
- 12:11Phoenix Pan.
- 12:12We're manifesting it into the airwaves right now.
- 12:15She is just so good.
- 12:16I love her.
- 12:17A nuclear power plant.
- 12:19Oh, I knew I could see it.
- 12:21It's like a Chernobyl worst case scenario.
- 12:24Yeah, it's like a Chernobyl meets lost, sitchy.
- 12:30Sitchy.
- 12:31So I recently flew to Miami and was flying when there was the Geo Magnetic Storm.
- 12:39And it's cool.
- 12:41Was it cool?
- 12:42I did not get to see it, unfortunately, but it did freak me out.
- 12:45I was like, am I going to be the next season of lost?
- 12:48Oh my God.
- 12:49That would have freaked me out.
- 12:51So bad.
- 12:52My coworker followed me the next day, left Phoenix.
- 12:55And he showed me this footage of this like electrical storm tunnel out his window, like not
- 13:04too far from the plane.
- 13:06And I was just like, my God.
- 13:09Three of my coworkers were on that plane.
- 13:11And I was like, wow, like, that's, that could be crazy.
- 13:15This is why I drink on planes because I don't like, I just want to be knocked out.
- 13:20If I'm going to die at least, I don't want to be conscious for it.
- 13:26The last like four flights I've been on have been insane turbulence.
- 13:30And I thought about it so badly.
- 13:32Yeah.
- 13:33Yeah, maybe it's the sun.
- 13:35Who knows?
- 13:36It's something.
- 13:37It's crazy.
- 13:38It's strange man.
- 13:39Hold my hand.
- 13:40He was really nice.
- 13:41I'm like, I'm something like a panic attack in a chauffeur like grab me.
- 13:45He was so cool.
- 13:46Oh.
- 13:47Yeah.
- 13:48I was working.
- 13:49And I was in the back of the airplane in the back of the airplane if you didn't know, is
- 13:53always more turbulent than the front.
- 13:55Yeah.
- 13:56I always put it over the front.
- 13:57I was in the back working and I was pouring my drinks and it got so bad that I had to sit
- 14:01down.
- 14:02I couldn't even like continue doing my service at that point.
- 14:04My drinks literally spilled everywhere.
- 14:08My tray was soaked.
- 14:09This lady ordered a champagne.
- 14:11Her champagne was everywhere in my back alley.
- 14:13She had a shower.
- 14:15I had to report her champagne.
- 14:16I was like, oh my God.
- 14:17- It was so bad back there.
- 14:20- Poor ladies and everyone said I was gonna get drunk.
- 14:21I'm so pissed. - I love it.
- 14:23- I'm so bad back there.
- 14:24- I had a crush on her. - I first heard that.
- 14:26- I was shot in Sprout Day.
- 14:26I have ordered a drink on the plane
- 14:29and got never drink for free.
- 14:31I don't know what's happening.
- 14:32I love that. - Yeah.
- 14:34They never charge me for that shit.
- 14:36I love it.
- 14:37I think, I don't know.
- 14:37- Well, you're good, Juju.
- 14:38Rubbed off on me.
- 14:40- Yeah. - I'll take that.
- 14:41- I'll take that.
- 14:42- You got three bags.
- 14:44- Yes.
- 14:45- Yes, so you've got two.
- 14:46- What do you know?
- 14:46- You're good, too, Olivia.
- 14:47So I had more free drinks.
- 14:49- So I, honestly, I'm continuing my
- 14:55jet set lifestyle this year.
- 14:58Unfortunately, a lot of it is for work,
- 15:00but I'll be going to Vegas, San Francisco.
- 15:03I'll be having a lot of fun.
- 15:05Personal vacation, we are gonna be going to Mexico.
- 15:09- Yes, so it's gonna be very, very exciting.
- 15:11I've never been a Mexican. - For our friends' divorce trip.
- 15:14- Yes, we're gonna make our recreate.
- 15:17We're gonna make our recreate
- 15:18the Nicole Kidman divorce pictures.
- 15:21- Yes, we should.
- 15:23- She doesn't have social media,
- 15:24but we're gonna force her to do it for herself, you know?
- 15:26- I love it when you get into your 30s.
- 15:28And like, you know, you have like,
- 15:30wedding some stuff here and there
- 15:32that you're still a bride's made for,
- 15:33but now you get to do divorce parties, too.
- 15:36(laughs)
- 15:37Like, this is my second divorce party,
- 15:40and they're always lit as fuck, so.
- 15:42- I know, I was talking to someone about,
- 15:44you know, not being married yet.
- 15:46And I was like, it's okay, I've statistically avoided
- 15:49my first divorce, so.
- 15:50- That is true.
- 15:51- I'm so excited for your first wedding
- 15:53and your first divorce.
- 15:54They're both gonna be incredible.
- 15:55- Bitch.
- 15:56- Don't manifest my first divorce.
- 16:00I'll start manifesting yours.
- 16:02- Oh my God, don't.
- 16:03- But I'm looking forward to Shawna getting divorces somewhere.
- 16:10- It's gonna be so fun.
- 16:12- Divorce party, my house.
- 16:15- He's like, I can hear him rub his finger to get cheese
- 16:17while he's fucking.
- 16:18- He's talking about this.
- 16:19- He's good.
- 16:20- That's good.
- 16:21- No, we love Andrea, we wouldn't manifest that.
- 16:25- Not, never.
- 16:27- I'm not weak at it.
- 16:28- No, her first divorce was scrapbook, boy.
- 16:32- Yeah, first divorce.
- 16:34- Yeah, true.
- 16:35- Those are kind of his divorces.
- 16:36I gave back the rings.
- 16:38- You could have had the funniest opportunity
- 16:40to make him a scrapbook, and just like,
- 16:43the only thing in it is a fake divorce.
- 16:45(laughing)
- 16:46- Divorce papers.
- 16:47(laughing)
- 16:49- Oh my God, I should do it now.
- 16:53We broke up like 20 years ago.
- 16:56- I'm so shit.
- 16:57- So I know in the podcast episode
- 16:59and be like, we still laugh at you.
- 17:01And that's the real divorce.
- 17:03- I'm just gonna let you know,
- 17:04you've given me steps to laugh at since I was 16.
- 17:07And I love that.
- 17:08- Thank you.
- 17:09- And that was the real prize.
- 17:11- I'm just a real prize of all.
- 17:13(laughing)
- 17:15- I love that.
- 17:16- I love that.
- 17:17Well, I hope everyone but scrapbook boy
- 17:22has a lovely summer.
- 17:24- Maybe he will make another scrapbook.
- 17:26- Maybe lots of cool parties, lots of scrapbooking.
- 17:28- Those damn creases.
- 17:31- He's losing them all to him.
- 17:33(laughing)
- 17:34(dramatic music)
- 17:37- Well, it sounds like we all have a very busy summer.
- 17:41And life can be so crazy, chaotic, sometimes fun.
- 17:46But I'm wondering what's the real smile?
- 17:51- It's a smile.
- 17:52- You know, we're a real glass half empty person over here.
- 17:55- Well, I'm not slowly madness, I'm just fun.
- 17:58- Yes.
- 18:00And you know, on that note, when you are slipping slowly
- 18:03into madness, I wanna know what is your comfort show
- 18:08or movie?
- 18:10- All right, I think we could probably all guess mine.
- 18:14- Ooh, that's for you?
- 18:17- No, actually.
- 18:18- Ooh.
- 18:19- We were off.
- 18:20I would have guessed the same.
- 18:21- Oh, friends.
- 18:22- Yes.
- 18:23- Oh, okay.
- 18:24- Oh, that makes sense.
- 18:25- Okay, that makes sense.
- 18:26- What is it about friends?
- 18:28Is it Jennifer Iniston?
- 18:30Is it her for sure, of course.
- 18:33And I think it's just the friend group,
- 18:39they're just so relatable.
- 18:41- Okay, it's like the character,
- 18:43the dynamic relationships.
- 18:45- Yes.
- 18:46And then I've seen it so many times,
- 18:48that it's just one of those shows
- 18:49that I could put on in the background
- 18:50and I know what's coming.
- 18:52So I don't fully have to put 100% of myself into the show.
- 18:56- Yeah.
- 18:56- In order for me to know what's coming,
- 18:58I could just, again, put it on in the background,
- 19:01do something else.
- 19:02And you're like, "How, how, oh my gosh,
- 19:04I know what's coming."
- 19:05And that's still so funny to me.
- 19:07Every time I watch it, I can watch the same episode
- 19:0920 times back to back.
- 19:10And I will continue to laugh at the same exact thing
- 19:13and it'll never get old to me.
- 19:15And it's been on for how many years,
- 19:17I think at this point, 30.
- 19:20- Yeah, I think it's gonna hurt.
- 19:22- It's not hurt.
- 19:22- Yeah, it came out in 1994 or something.
- 19:25And it's still funny to this day.
- 19:29And I just love it.
- 19:31It's, again, relatable.
- 19:33And I saw a video the other day about,
- 19:36the friends group and it was really,
- 19:39again, relatable.
- 19:40I keep saying that word, but it showed the friends
- 19:43kind of starting their lives in season one as,
- 19:46like 25 year olds, kind of just starting their life,
- 19:49trying to figure things out.
- 19:50And none of them were really in relationships,
- 19:53engaged, anything like that.
- 19:54And then as a show progressed and season 10 came along,
- 19:58they were all in their 30s.
- 19:59And that's when they started getting married
- 20:00and having kids.
- 20:01And it's like, you realize people today,
- 20:04they're trying to rush into things in their 20s,
- 20:07but then you look back at the friends cast and friends.
- 20:10And it's like, you don't have to rush into things.
- 20:12We'll just come when they do.
- 20:14- When they're in foreign place.
- 20:16- Yeah, and I think that's a good thing
- 20:18that the show shows.
- 20:20And I know I mentioned this before too.
- 20:22I know the show can, if you watch it now,
- 20:25there's some things in there that's like,
- 20:26"Ah, maybe..."
- 20:27- It's a product of its time.
- 20:28- It's like her show.
- 20:29- Yeah.
- 20:30- But it does talk about gay marriage,
- 20:34like Carol and Susan, they are,
- 20:37it was me and couple.
- 20:38And I think at that point in time in the 90s,
- 20:40that wasn't so...
- 20:41- Seriously.
- 20:42- What's the word I'm looking for?
- 20:43I know I'm not supposed to say that.
- 20:44- It was very common.
- 20:45- Yes, you know the first lesbian kiss ever shown
- 20:48on television,
- 20:50Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
- 20:51- Ooh.
- 20:53- And you're right, I was gonna say,
- 20:54"How long come that all?"
- 20:55- Yeah, I was like,
- 20:56I think that's awesome.
- 20:58The 90s that they were showing that at that time.
- 21:00And they were like, "You know what,
- 21:00we're just gonna roll with it and not care."
- 21:02And it was such a popular show and stuff like that.
- 21:05And yeah, it's one of my comfort shows.
- 21:08It's gonna be my comfort show, probably.
- 21:10So the day I die, yes.
- 21:12I just love it.
- 21:14- So I have this really weird thing about me.
- 21:17And I think it's like my resistance to authority
- 21:21or anyone telling me what to do.
- 21:23But I hate a laugh track so much
- 21:27to the point where it drives me insane.
- 21:31- And I'm like, I'm aware of it when you hear it.
- 21:33- Yes, yeah.
- 21:34And I'm like,
- 21:35so that part of it really does ruin it for me.
- 21:39But when I was like, before I really caught on
- 21:43to how annoying a laugh track was,
- 21:44I did like it.
- 21:46I do think that in the 90s,
- 21:48like getting married at like 18,
- 21:50was like, 1820, it was like very, very common.
- 21:54And so I do think that friends was always
- 21:57a really interesting show where it was like super-sive.
- 22:00It was, you know, they were way too wealthy
- 22:03to be living in that very nice apartment in New York City.
- 22:05But yeah, it doesn't make you have to suspend, you know.
- 22:09- So was sex in the city.
- 22:11So was sex in the city, okay.
- 22:13And they were at least like successful like 30 year olds.
- 22:16But yeah, I really love the friends cast just as like cast
- 22:21and then also like their real life friendships.
- 22:25I think they, to this day,
- 22:28like the reason that they all got paid so much
- 22:31and never had drama like a charmed or other cast did
- 22:36from that time.
- 22:37- Yeah.
- 22:37- They all band together to get paid the same amount.
- 22:39And they did that really early on.
- 22:41And you know, from the time that the show stopped,
- 22:44they really were like, we're gonna
- 22:46mini-unionize ourselves right here.
- 22:49- I know, I'm just so excited about them.
- 22:52- Yeah, that's amazing.
- 22:53I didn't even think about that.
- 22:54Like how much of it, like they banded together
- 22:57and like we can feel that genuine friendship.
- 23:00- Mm-hmm.
- 23:01- I have three main comfort shows.
- 23:04- I'll skip that one. - I wonder what they could be.
- 23:06(laughing)
- 23:07- So I mentioned Buffy the Vampire Slayer before.
- 23:10That is my go-to comfort show.
- 23:12Like you mentioned Nicole and I think that's something
- 23:14that's specific about comfort shows.
- 23:17A lot is it's something you've seen before.
- 23:20So it's low stakes.
- 23:21You know what's gonna happen.
- 23:22You know what's gonna be next.
- 23:24If you wanna laugh, you put on a funny episode.
- 23:27If you wanna get a little like, you know,
- 23:29put on a spicy episode, put on a romantic one,
- 23:32an action act one.
- 23:33Like just depending on what your mood is.
- 23:35I watch the Halloween episodes every October.
- 23:39The Thanksgiving. - And the Thanksgiving every year.
- 23:41- So Buffy's definitely my comfort show.
- 23:44We also mentioned my other comfort show,
- 23:46which I've been rewatching from the beginning,
- 23:47which is Sex and the City.
- 23:49And you know, it reminds me a lot of friends,
- 23:53like you said Nicole where it's like these women,
- 23:55when they start the show,
- 23:56they're all in their mid to late 20s.
- 24:00And by the end of it, Charlotte's and Miranda,
- 24:04and Carrie are all 38 and Samantha's 45.
- 24:08She's a little older.
- 24:09So you definitely see the progression.
- 24:12Like by the end of it, they're all in their 30s or 40s.
- 24:16And some of them are married, some of them are kids,
- 24:18some of them are relationships.
- 24:20But you know, they don't rush into it when they're in their 20s.
- 24:24Let me Charlotte rushes into some things, but we see
- 24:28how that works out for her.
- 24:30But then they also have issues as a cast too,
- 24:33where it's like, only a tray.
- 24:35- Wow.
- 24:36- My tray like, I love that actor though.
- 24:41He's so good in, you know, fallout.
- 24:45- Yeah.
- 24:46- Yeah.
- 24:47- I still haven't finished it.
- 24:48- Yeah, oh I won't, I won't spoil it for you.
- 24:50It's really good.
- 24:51And in the original Dune movie,
- 24:53he's from that too.
- 24:54Kyle McClacklin.
- 24:56McClacklin.
- 24:58McClacklin.
- 24:59- Michael Lacklin.
- 25:00- Michael Lacklin.
- 25:02- It's like, I'm like,
- 25:03- I'm like,
- 25:04- I'm like,
- 25:05- I'm like,
- 25:06- I'm like,
- 25:07- I'm like,
- 25:08- Yeah, he's good.
- 25:09- I'm like,
- 25:10- I love Sex and the City.
- 25:12And I know it's a little problematic
- 25:14and it's a product,
- 25:15Devots Times too.
- 25:16And I'll be watching it.
- 25:17And sometimes they'll say something
- 25:18and I'll audibly go,
- 25:19"No, oh, start, you can't say that."
- 25:22But I still love it
- 25:25and I still hate watch all of the movies
- 25:27and all of the,
- 25:28and just like that.
- 25:29- I know,
- 25:31- My little beauty pleasure.
- 25:32- And just like that.
- 25:33- I know we do a beef over it.
- 25:34We really do.
- 25:35- Shana keeps telling people to watch it
- 25:37and I'm like,
- 25:38"No, it's a terrible show."
- 25:40- But you never recommend it.
- 25:42- I know what happens.
- 25:44I've seen clips.
- 25:45Literally,
- 25:46the plot is so bad.
- 25:49- It's bad,
- 25:50but like,
- 25:51I'm not trying to convince
- 25:52- I'm trying to convince my friends
- 25:53to show what I want to know
- 25:54what happens to these characters.
- 25:56- There's even if it's shitty.
- 25:57I want to see more of them,
- 25:59even if it's too bad.
- 26:00- No, we leave people we love
- 26:03in the past before they ruin it for you, you know?
- 26:07- In that case,
- 26:08we're no longer friends.
- 26:09We're done.
- 26:11- Fish.
- 26:11- Leave me with the past
- 26:12before you bring me this.
- 26:13- That's like, okay, no,
- 26:14that's like saying like,
- 26:16"Oh, like you didn't think breaking bad would end that."
- 26:21Like, you don't think it should have ended.
- 26:23- No, I'm glad breaking bad ended.
- 26:26- I know there was a follow up movie.
- 26:29And if they had left
- 26:31"Sexam the City" at the show,
- 26:34no movies would have been so good.
- 26:37- I liked the first movie.
- 26:39- All right.
- 26:40- It was better than just like that.
- 26:43We'll say that.
- 26:44- The second movie.
- 26:45- The second movie is so bad.
- 26:46- The second movie is so bad.
- 26:47- The second movie is "Further.
- 26:49- It's so bad.
- 26:50- I trust your opinions on a post-it note, Olivia.
- 26:53- I can't joke.
- 26:54- I'm gonna burger you.
- 26:55I'm gonna burger you.
- 26:57God, burgers so hot though.
- 26:58He's such a douche.
- 26:59Rewatching this as a 35 year old woman,
- 27:02I'm just like, "Oh my God, everybody is terrible.
- 27:05I hate everybody.
- 27:07Aiden's cool.
- 27:07We love Aiden."
- 27:08- I can't say he's hot
- 27:10'cause he looks like a spitting image of my uncle.
- 27:14And I almost went, "Really?
- 27:15He is hot."
- 27:16And then I went, "Well, he's like 65,
- 27:20but yeah, he looks a lot like a girl."
- 27:22- Yeah, he looks like burger Aiden.
- 27:24- Burger.
- 27:26- Either way, he's hot.
- 27:27- Burger.
- 27:28- He looks like burger.
- 27:29Not a hamburger, the character burger.
- 27:32- He doesn't look like a cheeseburger.
- 27:34- No.
- 27:35- That would be hot though.
- 27:36- That would be hot.
- 27:37Then I would be like,
- 27:38"My uncle's pretty hot."
- 27:39He looks like a hamburger.
- 27:41- He looks like a double stack with American cheese.
- 27:45Why do you have to get so sexual?
- 27:49- I love cheeseburgers.
- 27:52And I'm hungry.
- 27:53- She's writing fanfic about my uncle.
- 27:56- I'm writing fanfic about eating cheeseburgers.
- 27:59- Yes, the whole fanfic is just gonna be about
- 28:01me eating a burger and loving it.
- 28:03- Okay.
- 28:04- Okay, my hamburger uncle.
- 28:06- Maybe your hamburger.
- 28:07Do you want me to eat your uncle like eating a life?
- 28:10- I can't imagine.
- 28:11- I think I do.
- 28:12- I do.
- 28:14- All right, Joe, from the butt.
- 28:15- I'll start my Brad Perry fanfic.
- 28:17And then I'll start my I.E. Olivia's uncle, like a cheeseburger fan.
- 28:20(laughing)
- 28:22- Well, he has to be a cheeseburger.
- 28:24So I don't know if you, you know.
- 28:26- I'm gonna find my uncle is a cheeseburger.
- 28:29Now you eat him like a cheeseburger.
- 28:31(laughing)
- 28:32- This is getting so fucking stupid.
- 28:35(laughing)
- 28:37- I'm sorry y'all, my brain is full.
- 28:39- Full rot.
- 28:40- He is a cheeseburger, Shanna.
- 28:43He's not like a cheeseburger.
- 28:44- He is a cheeseburger.
- 28:46(laughing)
- 28:48- Anyway, this takes me to my third and final comfort show.
- 28:52The one that I put on in the background almost every day
- 28:55while I worked for Mom chopped.
- 28:57Just mindless, just, there's so many episodes of this show.
- 29:02There's so many iterations.
- 29:03There's chopped, chopped Canada,
- 29:05chopped after dark, chopped champions,
- 29:07chopped kids, like you just put that shit on.
- 29:10- Where are you in kids now?
- 29:12- They're chopping up the children.
- 29:14Someone think of the children.
- 29:18- First was my uncle, Amber.
- 29:20We chop up the kids, we chop up the Canadians, we chop up.
- 29:24Hello, Julie.
- 29:29So yeah, chopped on the food world.
- 29:32- I love that highly recommended, highly not recommended.
- 29:35- Okay Nicole, I'm curious.
- 29:36Can you watch cooking shows without like immediately
- 29:40wanting to make all the food and like eat everything?
- 29:44- Yeah, probably.
- 29:47- Crazy, Sean, are you doing that too?
- 29:50- No.
- 29:52I'm sitting there eating food like an asshole,
- 29:54like a legal, like a lean cuisine that I microwaved.
- 29:57And I'm like, I can't believe they're making that risotto,
- 30:00like so late in the game, what an ass.
- 30:04- See, I feel this way about cleaning TikToks as well.
- 30:07But like if I see someone cooking really good food
- 30:11or like immaculate cleaning their home,
- 30:14I immediately have to start attempting to do it.
- 30:17Like I don't cook, so that makes sense.
- 30:20- Well thank you, but they're ambitious, it's ambitious
- 30:23and I like never have all the ingredients.
- 30:26So like I'm all the time having to go to the store
- 30:28and spend like $80 or something,
- 30:31which is substituting things out.
- 30:34- Yeah.
- 30:34- For like, no.
- 30:35- Do you think you're a good cook, Nicole?
- 30:37- Hmm, you know, if I have the recipe in front of me,
- 30:42yeah, but I'm just--
- 30:44- A girl can read.
- 30:45- If I'm the least, obviously I still live at home.
- 30:49I can't afford to go out 'cause I'm a broke white girl,
- 30:52but I am blessed with two parents who cook very,
- 30:57very well.
- 30:59- Oh, so I'm the best.
- 31:00- So I'm spoiled at home with not needing to cook.
- 31:04- What's it like to have parents who love you, Nicole?
- 31:07(laughing)
- 31:09- But when I go--
- 31:11- I can't say those jokes, Nicole.
- 31:13She gets, she's like, I'm, oh I'm sorry friend.
- 31:16First of all, I'm like, ah!
- 31:17(laughing)
- 31:19- But when I go--
- 31:20- No one loves that your parents cook for you.
- 31:22That's amazing.
- 31:23I love her.
- 31:24- When I work though, and I go on my overnight,
- 31:26I tend to not like eating at the hotel restaurants
- 31:29'cause I don't like to spend money.
- 31:31- Other socials. - So, they are.
- 31:33We get discounts, but still I'm just like,
- 31:34I don't want to spend the money.
- 31:37So I'll make, I just make a lot of pastas,
- 31:40which is also not good 'cause pastas aren't healthy.
- 31:42But, but their pastas are normally pretty good.
- 31:46- Are you like, wait, do you want marinara sauce?
- 31:50Or do you want like the alfredo?
- 31:53- It depends on how I'm feeling.
- 31:54I'll do like Alfredo or like I'll do vodka sauce.
- 31:57Or like I'll just make like butter noodles.
- 31:59- Oh, got it.
- 32:01- Hungry.
- 32:02- And I'll just depend on them in the mood for
- 32:03and how much I want it.
- 32:05It honestly, you know what, it really depends on
- 32:07how many dishes I want to clean.
- 32:10- Ooh, there it is.
- 32:11That's right. - That's how it's very, yeah.
- 32:13(laughing)
- 32:15- That's a real question in life.
- 32:18Oh well, you know, speaking of eating people,
- 32:22both of my comfortures are vampire-related.
- 32:27So I don't know what this says about me.
- 32:31Actually, I guess it's three.
- 32:33The first one, vampire diaries.
- 32:36- Second one, true blood.
- 32:38Third one, buffy.
- 32:40- Yeah, I love it when you put on buffy when I spend the night.
- 32:43- Yes, yes.
- 32:45But okay, so first of all, I would say vampire diaries
- 32:48is when I'm like sick, I don't feel good,
- 32:51or my brain isn't working.
- 32:53I wanna just have Elena give me nothing,
- 32:58but give me everything at the same time, you know?
- 33:00- I need to start it.
- 33:01I need to do it.
- 33:03- I know.
- 33:04- You've never seen it.
- 33:05- I feel like, and I listen, I understand the lore
- 33:09of a CW show because I watched,
- 33:13but I always end up with every fucking CW show.
- 33:16I'll watch it, I'll commit seasons to this.
- 33:19And then by the end, it gets so bad
- 33:21that I never finish it.
- 33:22Riverdale, supergirl flat.
- 33:25- Riverdale is really bad.
- 33:26- Supergirl is really bad.
- 33:28Vampire Diaries, great.
- 33:30Great.
- 33:31- When I was in my pick me era,
- 33:33I was like, I don't watch Vampire Diaries.
- 33:35And then I saw the light, and I was like,
- 33:39wow, I'm obsessed with the show.
- 33:40I'm telling you, it's kind of like my Twilight.
- 33:44Again, I think when I don't feel well,
- 33:46I wanna watch a vampire show.
- 33:47I don't know what's wrong with me.
- 33:49- Twilight, when you're sick, sounds amazing.
- 33:51They're like a couple of some noodle soup
- 33:53and like, Edward.
- 33:54- Yes.
- 33:55- Yes, maybe because vampires look like you.
- 33:57- Maybe because they're all pale and sickly.
- 34:00- Yeah, I'm like, that's me right now.
- 34:01I see myself within that.
- 34:03- Yeah, so vampires and Twilight,
- 34:06like Vampire Diaries, again, CW show.
- 34:08They are books.
- 34:10They're pretty good books.
- 34:12But they're definitely like YA.
- 34:14And then True Blood, I have been a True Blood stand
- 34:19for a really long time.
- 34:20I've never read the books though.
- 34:22And I just got one of my really good friends
- 34:25to agree to start them with me.
- 34:26We're gonna book them up.
- 34:28I wouldn't fight you, Seanan,
- 34:30but you read at a glacial pace.
- 34:32(laughing)
- 34:33- So, hey, I am well into a court of star.
- 34:38- What's it?
- 34:40- The Nesta one.
- 34:41- I don't know what to do.
- 34:43- I'm gonna so end it that you don't
- 34:44into the name of the book.
- 34:45(laughing)
- 34:46- To be fair, all of the titles are like,
- 34:48a court of Jim Stone's and I's,
- 34:51a court of flame and sex,
- 34:53a court of wood and roses.
- 34:56Like, I don't know.
- 34:57- Those are not a good one.
- 34:58- A court of Nare, correct.
- 34:59- Not a good one.
- 35:00- I'm in the Nesta one.
- 35:01- I'm in the Nessa one.
- 35:02- Okay.
- 35:03- I'm too busy watching, chopped.
- 35:05(laughing)
- 35:07- I'm eating chicken.
- 35:10- Yeah, I should just drink.
- 35:11- I'm too busy eating your uncle and watching, chopped.
- 35:14(laughing)
- 35:16- You know, I think that
- 35:21Damon would agree with that.
- 35:24I also think Eric might join you.
- 35:27Like,
- 35:30have you guys ever seen True Bud?
- 35:32- Yes, you know, I tried, I started it and then I stopped
- 35:37and then I restarted again and I just,
- 35:39I could never get over the,
- 35:40I watched the first season and I, I don't know.
- 35:43- I know.
- 35:44- I'm so disappointed in you.
- 35:47- I know I'm so sorry.
- 35:48I know we don't usually disagree on these things,
- 35:50but I just, I don't know.
- 35:52Maybe I need to give it another try.
- 35:53One final try.
- 35:55- And a call of you seen vampire naries or true Bud?
- 35:59- Can't see, I can have.
- 36:00- We can get a call and some vampire content.
- 36:03- I feel like vampire dyrrheiz is like a little young
- 36:07for me, so I feel like I thought we might get you there,
- 36:11but very good show, very good show.
- 36:14If you like a good like distract show,
- 36:17I always call them like big screen little screen shows
- 36:21and that's a good one.
- 36:22Like, you know, you're not gonna miss like massive
- 36:25pivotal plot points for vampire dyrrheiz true blood,
- 36:29you might, but the beauty of true blood,
- 36:32I'll give you like the premise,
- 36:33so hopefully I can entice you both.
- 36:37They are making a remake of it, but I.
- 36:39- I know what?
- 36:41- Yes, I know that.
- 36:43- But I'm like upset about the remake of true blood.
- 36:46I don't think they need to change it,
- 36:48but I mean, they may be obsessed.
- 36:49- I mean they may be obsessed, yeah, it would be pissed too.
- 36:50And they tease it every year, so.
- 36:54- Yeah, so true blood is basically the premise
- 36:57where the vampires come out of the coffin,
- 37:01and so they reveal themselves,
- 37:03and you basically join this girl,
- 37:07Suki's dad cows, when she lives.
- 37:10- Suki.
- 37:11- And she lives in like,
- 37:14Bonton, Louisiana, like Southern,
- 37:17a hillbilly, like two of fricking T,
- 37:20and the vampires are basically trying
- 37:22to get human rights.
- 37:24And it's like how society would react,
- 37:26like in today's modern day and age,
- 37:28if vampires like came out of the coffin,
- 37:31and then all this stuff ensues, it's so good.
- 37:35But yeah, I'm really excited to read the books.
- 37:38- I know, now they're re-making it.
- 37:40- That's interesting, maybe I'll give them a try then.
- 37:43I don't know what it was about the first season
- 37:44that didn't really hook me.
- 37:45Like I really like, I like the actress,
- 37:48and I don't know, the cast was good, and there's sex.
- 37:52- Now, I understand there's a lot of stars going on.
- 37:53- I understand there's a lot of stars going on.
- 37:54- Oh yeah, and this is a good one.
- 37:56When the vampire bites you, you get like an orgasm.
- 37:59And so they're like fun, it's not like bad.
- 38:02And the vampire sex is like the best sex you'd ever have.
- 38:05No, you don't die.
- 38:06- Oh my god.
- 38:07- But you can like, like be bitten from like pleasure,
- 38:11and then vampires can heal you.
- 38:12So it's cool, like lore, and you know,
- 38:16I, in that world, I would definitely
- 38:18a soup of the vampire.
- 38:20- Oh, for sure.
- 38:22- Really like Riley, when he goes to the vampire cave
- 38:24and buffy, and just that's all the vamps of item.
- 38:26(laughs)
- 38:28- I love that.
- 38:29- Yeah.
- 38:30- Yeah, exactly, exactly.
- 38:32- I love that we all have such diverse like comfort shows.
- 38:35And it's just that stuff that, you know, yeah, like we said,
- 38:38you've seen a million times, or it's just something
- 38:41you can put on in the background, or something
- 38:44that you put on while you're sick.
- 38:46And I know a lot of people have their comfort show
- 38:48is the office, I hear that a lot.
- 38:50One of my friends' comfort shows is Parks and Rec.
- 38:54So it's a lot of those like serialized shows
- 38:56that are kind of, like new girls,
- 38:58probably a popular comfort show.
- 39:01Great British breaking shows, another great one.
- 39:03Just, it feels like a hug.
- 39:05Low stakes.
- 39:06(laughs)
- 39:07I don't know.
- 39:08- What a lovely, too fly.

- 39:32to sleep with?

- 39:37(laughs)
- 39:38- Now you're crammed in the whole bag.

- 39:42- They're all hamburgers.
