- 0:03The bears took it to the wire again,
- 0:06but this time they couldn't pull it out.
- 0:09We're going to talk about that and a
- 0:10whole lot more next.
- 0:23I love the chase and the hunt and
- 0:24I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:26I always take what I want and I
- 0:28always give it one hundred.
- 0:29Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:31Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:32I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:33Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:35Now wake up!
- 0:36It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:39Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:41friend to me.
- 0:42It's not working out,
- 0:43maybe it's the chemistry.
- 0:44It's time to break up so I can
- 0:46make a better me.
- 0:48What is going on everybody?
- 0:57It is that time of the day.
- 1:01So good to be back with you.
- 1:04Yeah, we took a couple days off.
- 1:05I see you, Larry.
- 1:06I see you, Shay.
- 1:09Really, honestly,
- 1:11there just wasn't a lot to talk about.
- 1:14And everybody was kind of spending time
- 1:17with family.
- 1:18And we wanted to give all of us
- 1:21just a little bit of a rest.
- 1:23to be able to hang out with our
- 1:24families.
- 1:25My mom just went back to Pennsylvania.
- 1:28She was scheduled to go back this morning.
- 1:29She ended up going back last night because
- 1:31of bad weather.
- 1:32But I wanted to spend some more time
- 1:34with her.
- 1:34I wanted to spend time with my wife.
- 1:37And I know Carolyn had flown to
- 1:40California.
- 1:41We wanted her to have time with Lex.
- 1:43Speaking of Lex, happy birthday.
- 1:46Hope you have an amazing day.
- 1:48I know your forty niners beat my bears
- 1:50last night.
- 1:52And as I said in my text,
- 1:54if that gave you your birthday wish,
- 1:57makes taking the loss a little bit easier.
- 2:00So, Train Olive,
- 2:05we've been having Clydesdale withdrawals.
- 2:08Lana, welcome back.
- 2:10Yeah.
- 2:12So I was here last Wednesday and now
- 2:14we're here.
- 2:15We had the Christmas holiday.
- 2:17This was our first Christmas without our
- 2:19daughter and it took an emotional toll.
- 2:23It really did.
- 2:24Much more than I could have ever imagined.
- 2:27We FaceTimed Christmas Eve.
- 2:29That's when the tears started and probably
- 2:31didn't stop for most of the weekend.
- 2:35My daughter said that she's never going to
- 2:37let this happen again,
- 2:39that she'll find a way to make Christmas
- 2:41her trip home.
- 2:44You know, she was alone in...
- 2:49Montana,
- 2:49she had friends that invited her over and
- 2:53they enjoyed each other's company,
- 2:55but she said it just wasn't the same,
- 2:57that they don't spend Christmas together
- 3:00like we do.
- 3:01And so it just was lacking something for
- 3:04her.
- 3:05We truly miss our daughter on those
- 3:07holidays as much as we wanted to make
- 3:10it normal and get through it.
- 3:13We did the best we could.
- 3:16And I'm so proud of her.
- 3:17She's killing it at life,
- 3:19killing it at life.
- 3:21And I want her to keep doing that
- 3:23and keep being a success.
- 3:25But, you know, she's my kid.
- 3:27She's my only kid.
- 3:28And just miss her tremendously.
- 3:31So that's that.
- 3:35We made it through the holidays.
- 3:36Now I'm into my birthday week.
- 3:39So my birthday is this Thursday.
- 3:41Um,
- 3:41I've promised you guys all like a hot
- 3:43sauce challenge at some point this week.
- 3:45I need to talk to Corey,
- 3:46see how we can kind of figure that
- 3:48out.
- 3:50Um, but yeah,
- 3:50we'll do some fun stuff hopefully this
- 3:52week for my birthday and yeah,
- 3:55we'll see what's going on.
- 3:57So last night's day to play for the
- 3:59bears game.
- 4:01Um,
- 4:02They went to San Francisco or Santa Clara
- 4:05to play the forty niners.
- 4:07It was an epic offensive battle.
- 4:11Game was tied seven, seven, fourteen,
- 4:13fourteen, twenty one, twenty one,
- 4:15twenty eight,
- 4:16twenty eight and thirty five, thirty five.
- 4:18The Bears went ahead.
- 4:19Thirty eight, thirty five.
- 4:21And then San Francisco scored,
- 4:25making it forty two, thirty eight.
- 4:28The Bears got the ball back with two
- 4:30minutes left.
- 4:31They have been riding that knife all
- 4:34season long of trying to make the comeback
- 4:37with two minutes to go.
- 4:38They marched the whole way down the field.
- 4:41They get the ball to the, what,
- 4:42four-yard line with maybe three-yard line
- 4:46with four seconds left to go,
- 4:48one play left.
- 4:50Um, Caleb drops back,
- 4:51avoids a sack floats out to the left
- 4:55where he is met with two forty niners.
- 4:58He has to back up and then throw
- 5:00moving backwards to try to hit his guy
- 5:03in the end zone and, uh,
- 5:05and it falls short.
- 5:08but what, what an amazing,
- 5:11what an amazing game.
- 5:12And I didn't expect any of this,
- 5:14this season.
- 5:15I expected them to like get better this
- 5:16season.
- 5:17And then next year be the year they
- 5:19make a run for it all.
- 5:20And, and, and they did,
- 5:23they've been awesome.
- 5:24They,
- 5:25they hung with a playoff team in their
- 5:27home stadium stadium until the very bitter
- 5:30end of the game.
- 5:32Um,
- 5:33but I'm not confident about their defense.
- 5:35I'm not confident about San Francisco's
- 5:37defense.
- 5:37This year's NFC playoffs are the Rams who
- 5:42have both.
- 5:43And then three teams that have a great
- 5:46offense, Chicago, San Francisco,
- 5:50and maybe the Panthers or Bucks.
- 5:55And then three teams that don't have a
- 5:58defense or that don't have a good offense
- 6:02like Philly, Seattle,
- 6:06So it's going to be a have-have-not season
- 6:09in the playoffs.
- 6:10It's going to be interesting to see.
- 6:12We'll see how it all goes down.
- 6:14But at least the Bears get a home
- 6:16playoff game.
- 6:17They clinch the NFC North on Saturday
- 6:19night.
- 6:21Now they have to play next week to
- 6:22see who gets the two and the three
- 6:24seed between them and Philadelphia.
- 6:27Um, so yeah,
- 6:28we'll see how it goes from there,
- 6:30but at least the bears get a home
- 6:32playoff game.
- 6:33If they can win Sunday,
- 6:35they'll get two home playoff games if they
- 6:37can win out, um, which would be awesome.
- 6:40Uh, so super excited for that, but, uh,
- 6:44we'll get into some CrossFit stuff.
- 6:46We're coming to the end of the fantasy
- 6:47football league too.
- 6:48This was the last week of the fantasy
- 6:50football league, uh,
- 6:51Jamie and Natalie Lemieux were playing for
- 6:55the championship.
- 6:57They still have players tonight,
- 7:00but the winner is going to get this
- 7:03as their trophy.
- 7:05I don't know if you guys can see
- 7:07that.
- 7:09But it is a championship ring.
- 7:12I grew up in an era where that
- 7:14was the big thing, the cool thing,
- 7:16everybody's quest for the ring.
- 7:18So it's got some jewels in it.
- 7:19It is a twenty twenty five fantasy
- 7:22football league championship ring.
- 7:24I try to have fun trophies for the
- 7:27events we do here on the show.
- 7:29So that'll be mailed out to whoever wins
- 7:33the fantasy football league tonight,
- 7:35either Jamie Latimer or Natalie Lemieux.
- 7:38One of the two of them will be
- 7:39getting that championship ring for winning
- 7:42the Clydesdale fantasy football league
- 7:45this season.
- 7:49So, yeah.
- 7:51Those are all kind of the news updates.
- 7:54Don't forget to buy your third Z third
- 7:56Z.com backslash Jazzy or use promo code
- 7:59Jazzy at checkout.
- 8:01I have needed it so much this weekend
- 8:04to recover from all the holiday
- 8:06festivities.
- 8:09it,
- 8:09it just does so much to recover my
- 8:11body, uh,
- 8:12from all the toll of lifting and tugging
- 8:15and all that kind of stuff.
- 8:17Um, with the, the grass fed beef collagen,
- 8:20it helps so much.
- 8:22Um,
- 8:23And yeah, and I sleep through the night,
- 8:25which is great.
- 8:27I just, I wanted more sleep this morning.
- 8:29The game went late,
- 8:30which I could have got just a little
- 8:32bit more,
- 8:33but glad I got deep sleep with my
- 8:35third Z. Again,
- 8:36that's third Z.com backslash Jazzy or
- 8:39promo code Jazzy at checkout.
- 8:43Train all of third Z has been a
- 8:45game changer for me.
- 8:46I'm hearing that from so many people.
- 8:48Yeah.
- 8:50It has been a lifesaver for me as
- 8:53I go into this month of all the
- 8:56procedures and getting my sinuses cleaned
- 8:59out and getting my biopsy on my lungs,
- 9:01all that's happening at the end of this
- 9:02month.
- 9:04Um,
- 9:04but at least I can sleep up until
- 9:05then.
- 9:07So that has been awesome.
- 9:10So glad it's working for you.
- 9:12Trinked olive or winter.
- 9:15We'll call you winter today.
- 9:17Um,
- 9:19The other thing I want to talk about
- 9:20is Dense Updates, or Jenny,
- 9:24did a great year in review episode this
- 9:27morning.
- 9:28If you haven't checked it out,
- 9:30please go do so.
- 9:32I think she counted out fourteen of the
- 9:35hottest topics of the year and gave a
- 9:39brief recap of that.
- 9:41It's amazing that some of this stuff...
- 9:45happened this year it feels like eons ago
- 9:48as i'm watching that and i'm like holy
- 9:50cow that did happen this year um and
- 9:57She did great.
- 9:58There's Grant for keeping it real.
- 9:59He did the Kale Layman story on the
- 10:01Dense Updates, updating us on that.
- 10:03That seems like three years ago at this
- 10:06point with everything that's been going on
- 10:08this year.
- 10:09But the main theme of her Dense Updates
- 10:12was people say CrossFit is dead and...
- 10:18she was proving that there are so many
- 10:20stories, so much new media,
- 10:22so much expanded media that there's no way
- 10:25you can say that CrossFit is dead.
- 10:27People are talking about it left and
- 10:28right.
- 10:29Uh,
- 10:30she included the stories of Daniel
- 10:32Brandon.
- 10:32She included, um, the stories of the sale.
- 10:35Uh,
- 10:36it's really a good recap of the year
- 10:39to kind of reset everything that, um,
- 10:44that was going on this year and to
- 10:47show that there is so much activity around
- 10:49the sport.
- 10:51Yeah, some of the numbers are down,
- 10:53but we're coming off some weird stuff.
- 10:54Hopefully that can clear up and we can
- 10:56move in a direction.
- 10:59Hopefully we hear more about a sale or
- 11:01where it's going,
- 11:02what direction it may go.
- 11:05So Vaughn teased this morning that he has
- 11:07some news on that front that he's going
- 11:09to talk about on their Friday update show.
- 11:12So make sure you tune into that.
- 11:14I know I will to see what's going
- 11:16on and what news they have.
- 11:18on their front.
- 11:20But hopefully, I mean,
- 11:21I would have thought that we were sold
- 11:23by now,
- 11:23but it definitely has not happened.
- 11:26It looks like it stalled.
- 11:29Again,
- 11:29Sevan teased this morning that there is
- 11:32some talk of some stuff actually going on
- 11:37right now,
- 11:38but he is not releasing that information
- 11:40until their Friday CrossFit update show.
- 11:44So...
- 11:46It made me kind of reflect a little
- 11:47bit about what we've been doing here and
- 11:50we've made some significant changes over
- 11:52the last year that has honestly increased
- 11:57growth tremendously for our channel.
- 12:01And thank you to all of you who
- 12:03listen every day.
- 12:05We've created this little tribe that meets
- 12:08every day at lunch, hangs out and chats.
- 12:13That's one of the big things that we
- 12:14changed.
- 12:15We have done a daily lunch show that
- 12:19has never been something in our
- 12:21repertoire.
- 12:21And it actually just kind of came about
- 12:24twofold that...
- 12:30that I wanted to find a way where
- 12:33I could just sit here and talk to
- 12:34you, the audience,
- 12:36at the drop of a hat and talk
- 12:38about news,
- 12:39talk about things that are going on in
- 12:41life,
- 12:41things that are going on in the
- 12:43entertainment world,
- 12:44things that are going on in sports,
- 12:47and just get more comfortable with me
- 12:49talking to a camera and not to a
- 12:51co-host or not to somebody else.
- 12:54But in addition to that,
- 12:55I found a new co-host, and that's Corey.
- 12:58Corey Leonard has become a mainstay on
- 13:01this lunch show.
- 13:03He comes on once or twice or whatever
- 13:06throughout the week,
- 13:06and it does give a nice change up
- 13:08to the week for me as a host
- 13:11because when he comes on,
- 13:13I have no clue what we're going to
- 13:15talk about.
- 13:16Um,
- 13:17and it just adds some variety to me.
- 13:19Um,
- 13:20and hopefully that gives a freshness for
- 13:22you guys that the topics go in different
- 13:24directions.
- 13:26And, um, yeah, so that those,
- 13:30that's the main thing that's happened this
- 13:32year.
- 13:33Uh, Larry Young says, uh,
- 13:34CrossFit is not dead for me.
- 13:35I'm pushing harder than I have.
- 13:37Uh,
- 13:38wish I had a shot at the top,
- 13:39but probably not.
- 13:42You never know, buddy.
- 13:43Keep, keep at it.
- 13:46uh train olive i'm so glad you decided
- 13:49to add the lunch show uh me too
- 13:51it's been it's really been a cool thing
- 13:55to have this group to hang out with
- 13:56every day and just chat and talk and
- 14:00and it's made it so i cannot wait
- 14:02i cannot wait for live events again to
- 14:04maybe meet some of you out there on
- 14:06the road in the upcoming year because i'm
- 14:09hoping with this surgery done at the end
- 14:12of the month
- 14:13And my wife's two new knees now that
- 14:16we don't have these things that prevent me
- 14:18from hitting the road this year and that
- 14:20I can come meet you all in person.
- 14:24I got to meet Joseph Ramirez at the
- 14:25games last year.
- 14:27I've met Larry Young a couple of times.
- 14:29I met Grant at the games a couple
- 14:31of years ago.
- 14:32Like that's the fun stuff, man.
- 14:33I cannot wait to meet you all in
- 14:36person.
- 14:36And that's one of my goals for this
- 14:38year.
- 14:41The other thing that was major difference
- 14:44this year is we got the glitter band.
- 14:47We got the glitter band for the games.
- 14:49We got to do full backstage stuff,
- 14:52which I'm still working on finishing up
- 14:55the Hattie Cano documentary.
- 14:58I know I've promised it a lot.
- 14:59It's just so much has been hitting us.
- 15:02And so I'm going to get little short
- 15:03times to work on that.
- 15:07My team at work went from three to
- 15:09two.
- 15:09So now two of us are covering the
- 15:11same amount of work that three used to.
- 15:13And it just doesn't allow for a lot
- 15:15of time to dedicate to that documentary.
- 15:20But it's still in the works.
- 15:21It's still being worked on.
- 15:23And I'm hoping to get it out.
- 15:25sometime in January.
- 15:27That is my goal.
- 15:29You know,
- 15:29I used to always complain about when
- 15:32documentaries were announced by CrossFit
- 15:34and it took forever for them to come
- 15:35out.
- 15:36And it does take a lot of time,
- 15:37especially when you're a one-man show.
- 15:40doing all the editing,
- 15:41doing all the cutting, all the music,
- 15:47trying to find all that stuff.
- 15:49It is a painstaking process.
- 15:52One that I love doing,
- 15:53I just don't have a lot of time
- 15:54to set that aside.
- 15:59But yeah, we're hoping to get that out.
- 16:01We put out part one.
- 16:02There's only a part two.
- 16:04So one and two.
- 16:05Part two will be out hopefully in January.
- 16:08That's my goal.
- 16:09I'm setting that goal with a hard deadline
- 16:12of the end of January.
- 16:13And I need to do that to force
- 16:15myself to get it done.
- 16:18So that should be coming out soon.
- 16:23Terry says,
- 16:23you and Corey are great together.
- 16:26Corey, if people don't know,
- 16:27I met him at the Masters Fitness
- 16:29Championships.
- 16:31I truly met him in the chat.
- 16:33But then I was debating on whether going
- 16:37to the Masters Fitness Championships.
- 16:39He had qualified.
- 16:42One of his buddies was going to come
- 16:43with him and got injured and couldn't
- 16:46compete.
- 16:47so he had an extra space in his
- 16:50room and invited me to stay with him
- 16:53for the weekend so uh fort wayne is
- 16:55only a two and a half hour drive
- 16:57for me i drove up i stayed with
- 16:59corey for the weekend we became immediate
- 17:02friends um he was competing i was filming
- 17:06and doing some little vignettes with
- 17:08different athletes and uh we had a blast
- 17:12we had a blast that weekend um
- 17:15And our schedules were very different.
- 17:17So we were almost like passing like ships
- 17:19in the night,
- 17:21coming and going at different times.
- 17:25But that's where we met.
- 17:26I got to see him on the floor
- 17:27compete.
- 17:28It was so much fun seeing the energy
- 17:31he brings.
- 17:32And with that,
- 17:33I started bringing him on the show.
- 17:35And it has been awesome.
- 17:37It has been really, really awesome.
- 17:39to get to know him even better.
- 17:41And I consider him like one of my
- 17:43best friends now.
- 17:45So super stoked that that happened this
- 17:47year.
- 17:49And yes, Joseph,
- 17:51so good to meet you at the games.
- 17:52It was so weird how we met because
- 17:55I was actually looking for John Hurd and
- 17:57you just happened to be sitting in the
- 17:59same row as him.
- 18:00And that's how we met.
- 18:01And that was really cool that we got
- 18:03to do that.
- 18:05So fun stuff there.
- 18:10But yeah,
- 18:10it has been for a year where I
- 18:12couldn't travel as much because of my
- 18:14wife's surgeries to get, to go to Albany,
- 18:17to get, to go to the games.
- 18:19Um,
- 18:22to do all that to cover the sport
- 18:24like we did even though i couldn't travel
- 18:27as much and to grow this audience through
- 18:30this lunch show has been amazing this year
- 18:33and i thank each and every one of
- 18:34you for being here every day um because
- 18:36i truly appreciate each and every one of
- 18:38you and the and the thing that's really
- 18:40changed is i used to do just a
- 18:41ton of interviews right
- 18:44from people all over the sport,
- 18:45whether they be a semifinal athlete,
- 18:47a master's athlete, an elite athlete,
- 18:50whatever it may be.
- 18:52And I've really backed those way off.
- 18:54And it's almost become a thing where I
- 18:58had to do it because...
- 19:02with the way my work is working now,
- 19:04I just can't drop work to jump on
- 19:07an interview.
- 19:09And when you're trying to interview
- 19:10athletes,
- 19:11timing is so hard to nail down where
- 19:15it works for my work schedule and it
- 19:17works for their training schedule.
- 19:20And so with that,
- 19:21I've really taken a back seat when it
- 19:24comes to doing interviews with athletes.
- 19:27and really leaned into these daily shows
- 19:31like this.
- 19:33And really, when I talk to athletes now,
- 19:36it's just asking them questions off air to
- 19:40increase my knowledge and talk about
- 19:42things more
- 19:46with more authority than I would
- 19:50otherwise.
- 19:51Being able to talk to them off the
- 19:53record and keep...
- 19:57keep things secret that need to be kept
- 20:00secret.
- 20:00But that gives me like an idea of
- 20:03where things are going for people and I
- 20:05can, uh, follow along better and,
- 20:08and then have those discussions with you
- 20:10in a way that, um, doesn't ruin their,
- 20:13um,
- 20:14their secret or whatever they're going
- 20:17through.
- 20:18And, um, and so, yeah,
- 20:22it's really changed that way.
- 20:25Um,
- 20:28And I think what's crazy is you would
- 20:30think that having elite athletes on would
- 20:34increase the visibility of the show,
- 20:36and it really doesn't.
- 20:38They are not like the needle movers that
- 20:42you think they are, which is crazy.
- 20:44Unless you're like Hiller and going and
- 20:46doing like a forty eight hours with or
- 20:49something new and exciting and vibrant,
- 20:52it doesn't it doesn't move the needle
- 20:53much.
- 20:54And the elite athletes don't move it much
- 20:56at all.
- 20:57I actually find like the semifinal
- 21:00athletes move the needle more because they
- 21:02share it with everybody they know.
- 21:05Cause they don't get these opportunities
- 21:07very often.
- 21:08And so they're sharing it to Instagram.
- 21:09They're sharing it to their own YouTube.
- 21:11They're sharing it with every family
- 21:13member they got.
- 21:15Um, so yeah.
- 21:19That's really the reason behind it.
- 21:21So it's all of those things that we've
- 21:23switched this format.
- 21:25Mostly now it's because I just love
- 21:28hanging out with you guys every day in
- 21:29the middle of my workday to catch my
- 21:32breath,
- 21:33to get kind of rejuvenated a little bit
- 21:36and see what's going on with all of
- 21:38you.
- 21:43Jody asks,
- 21:44what is the next event you'll go to
- 21:46in person?
- 21:48I haven't really made any of those
- 21:50decisions yet.
- 21:52I kind of am one of those guys
- 21:53where I want to get through the next
- 21:55thing first.
- 21:56And that is the end of January,
- 21:58I have the sinus surgery.
- 21:59I have the biopsy on my lungs.
- 22:01I find out a lot after that week.
- 22:07And then I'll look at the schedule and
- 22:09I'll try to determine how I can work
- 22:11things out.
- 22:13The one event I really,
- 22:15really enjoy going to that's not a bad
- 22:19drive for me is Syndicate Crown.
- 22:21So I'll most likely go to Syndicate Crown.
- 22:25I may try to go to Mayhem.
- 22:27I don't know yet.
- 22:30Mayhem's tough because I don't know what
- 22:32kind of content I can get out of
- 22:34that.
- 22:34I've heard that the people that went last
- 22:37year had very restricted access compared
- 22:41to their own media team,
- 22:42which completely makes sense that they
- 22:45would want to give more access to their
- 22:49own media team than an outside party.
- 22:52And they put out so much content that...
- 22:57I give them a pass on that because
- 22:59they do as much as they can with
- 23:02what they provide there,
- 23:04and it's their show.
- 23:06so um so syndicate crown is most likely
- 23:11a definite now that wilson lives up the
- 23:14street and we've been talking um i want
- 23:17to support his event so most likely i'll
- 23:21be at syndicate crown um joseph asks about
- 23:25crash i'd love to go to crash um
- 23:31I think I'm going to try to go
- 23:32to Crash this year.
- 23:34My wife has a ton of family in
- 23:37the North Carolina, South Carolina area.
- 23:40And if I can pair it with her
- 23:44getting to visit family and I go to
- 23:46the event,
- 23:47I think we can pull that off.
- 23:49because her one cousin that she hangs out
- 23:51with a lot just moved to South Carolina
- 23:55or just south of the North Carolina
- 23:58border.
- 23:59So it's probably only about a half an
- 24:00hour away from Crash.
- 24:03So Syndicate and Crash seem pretty good.
- 24:06And I do have my hotel reservations for
- 24:08the games.
- 24:11So that's already done.
- 24:14I just have to figure out like that
- 24:16with visiting my daughter.
- 24:23Joseph,
- 24:23those sound like my plans right there.
- 24:25I'm planning on going to Syndicate and
- 24:26Crash and I already have Airbnb for the
- 24:28games.
- 24:29Yeah, that's pretty much where I'm at.
- 24:31I have my hotel reservation at the games
- 24:35and I'll probably go to Syndicate and I'll
- 24:37go to Crash.
- 24:39That seems good.
- 24:44Joseph, you're a groupie.
- 24:46I love it, says Jody.
- 24:46Yeah, we are CrossFit nerds, aren't we?
- 24:52We love to go to these events.
- 24:57So I had a comment from last week's
- 25:00show that I wanted to pull up and
- 25:05just kind of talk about.
- 25:09So I'm going to share my screen.
- 25:19So it's this comment from Ben...
- 25:22Benetal or Benito one, six, five.
- 25:29I don't know if I agree with minimum
- 25:31work requirement because it's a season.
- 25:34So if you sit down an event or
- 25:36two and get zero,
- 25:37but you get points on the other ones
- 25:39that add towards your season score,
- 25:42I'm fine with that.
- 25:43Otherwise,
- 25:44people's whole season would be screwed up.
- 25:46What if that happened at tour stop one
- 25:48and you didn't make a minimum work
- 25:50requirement on a workout and got
- 25:53disqualified from that tour stop?
- 25:55The rest of your season would be affected
- 25:57and you'd probably sit it out.
- 26:02Here's what I would say to that.
- 26:04Injuries are a part of sport.
- 26:06And the one thing I have a hard
- 26:08time remembering is in this CrossFit
- 26:11space,
- 26:12there are a big group of people that
- 26:15this is the only sport that they watch.
- 26:19If I told you that Fee Sagafi should
- 26:25not have been able to continue on after
- 26:27sitting out an event at the World Fitness
- 26:31Project finals, everybody's like,
- 26:34that's unfair.
- 26:35She'd just give her a zero for that
- 26:37event and she should move on.
- 26:40It would be the same as me saying
- 26:43that Tiger Woods...
- 26:46can sit out holes eight and nine on
- 26:49a golf course and then come back on
- 26:52hole ten and finish out the round of
- 26:55this tour stop.
- 27:00Injuries happen in sports all the time.
- 27:03All the time.
- 27:04If you watched the Bears' forty-niners
- 27:06game last night,
- 27:07the forty-niners have lost five
- 27:10A lot of their stars on defense.
- 27:12A lot of their stars on defense.
- 27:14They don't get a pass on that.
- 27:16They don't get an exemption for that.
- 27:19They have to figure out how to play
- 27:20without them.
- 27:22If you went to a tennis match,
- 27:24which is an individual sport just like
- 27:26CrossFit,
- 27:27and you went to the French Open and
- 27:30you got hurt in the second round,
- 27:32they don't let you sit out round three
- 27:34and four and come back in round five.
- 27:38It doesn't happen in other sports.
- 27:41So I don't understand why it's such a
- 27:44big deal that if you're hurt and cannot
- 27:47complete the event,
- 27:49this is a test of fitness,
- 27:51of everything that they can throw at you
- 27:53in this weekend or this season or whatever
- 27:56it is.
- 27:57If you skip a part of the test
- 28:00and then come back to compete in the
- 28:02rest, it's an unfair advantage to you.
- 28:09Because the other people stayed healthy
- 28:11enough to compete in every event.
- 28:16Staying healthy is part of the test.
- 28:23You have to stay healthy.
- 28:25You have to.
- 28:27Now,
- 28:28if they set up a tour where you
- 28:30have to show up at three out of
- 28:33five events and you get three scores going
- 28:37into the finals,
- 28:38like they do in some of the golf
- 28:41events or in some of the tennis events,
- 28:43then that is part of the rules that
- 28:45you just pick the three you're going to.
- 28:48And maybe you can avoid a tournament or
- 28:51two because of an injury and let it
- 28:53rest.
- 28:54But that's not how this works out.
- 28:56This works out where every event is scored
- 29:00and it is one complete season from tour
- 29:04stop one to the finals.
- 29:06Every event counts.
- 29:08You should have to compete in every one
- 29:11of the events or suffer the consequences
- 29:15of not appearing at an event because of
- 29:17injury.
- 29:19And there were a handful of people that
- 29:20did not do a tour stop and still
- 29:22qualified for a pro card.
- 29:26Namely,
- 29:26Jeff Adler skipped tour stop two
- 29:28completely, came back in the finals,
- 29:30and still got a pro card.
- 29:34So he was hurt,
- 29:35could not compete in tour stop two,
- 29:37didn't show up and do three of the
- 29:39six events.
- 29:40He didn't do any of the events and
- 29:43still was able to go on and by
- 29:45rule was able to complete and qualify for
- 29:50a pro card.
- 29:56Now,
- 29:56do I think the point system is right?
- 30:01And...
- 30:03No,
- 30:03I think that double points is too much
- 30:05for the finals.
- 30:06It's putting too much emphasis on that.
- 30:09I really like Jamie's idea of the raw
- 30:11score just carrying over from tour stop to
- 30:14tour stop.
- 30:16But I do think that if you cannot
- 30:18complete the events at that tour stop,
- 30:22there should be a minimum work
- 30:23requirement.
- 30:24And if you can't go on,
- 30:25you can't go on.
- 30:29And the reason that it's an unfair
- 30:32advantage is because if you rest two
- 30:35events and you come back for event three,
- 30:38you are rested while the others have
- 30:41worked their tail off through two events
- 30:44and then come back and try to compete
- 30:46against you fresh in event three.
- 30:49It just taints the scoring completely and
- 30:52it gives an unfair advantage to the
- 30:54injured athlete.
- 31:02Um, Vicky, uh, unfair advantage for sure.
- 31:05Even with sitting out event,
- 31:07one event allows for extra recovery, uh,
- 31:11train all of all good points.
- 31:14Um, dense Jenny says, I agree.
- 31:17Jenny, great job on the recap show.
- 31:19Loved it.
- 31:20Um,
- 31:22and then we have Grace's fifteen forty.
- 31:25I don't see how that's a problem.
- 31:27If they're modeling it on golf,
- 31:29golfers don't do every event on the tour,
- 31:31right?
- 31:33they don't,
- 31:34but they don't do half a tour event.
- 31:37No golfer goes to the Memorial Tournament
- 31:41and does nine of the eighteen holes and
- 31:46counts their score.
- 31:49If WFP wants to have five tour events
- 31:53and you only have to do three of
- 31:55them, then it's more like golf.
- 31:57You can choose the three you want to
- 31:59do.
- 32:00What happened with Fi,
- 32:02and I'm not picking on Fi,
- 32:03I love Fi,
- 32:04but she showed up and she only did
- 32:06the events she was able to do.
- 32:08Getting points for those events,
- 32:10but nothing else.
- 32:12That is where it's an unfair advantage,
- 32:14doing half of the events on that tour
- 32:17stop.
- 32:18If you're in golf and you go to
- 32:20the tour stop,
- 32:21you play all the holes that you play
- 32:25on that tour stop.
- 32:38Did they say something about changing the
- 32:40points for next year's season?
- 32:41I have not heard that, Holly, at all.
- 32:45But then again,
- 32:46I have really been kind of out of
- 32:48it over the weekend.
- 32:50Jody says,
- 32:51will WFP even have another season?
- 32:53Every pundit has it as a once and
- 32:55done pursuit.
- 32:58I do think they're going to have another
- 32:59season for sure.
- 33:02People have guaranteed money coming to
- 33:04them.
- 33:05I think they're going to want to sign
- 33:07up and collect it.
- 33:09or if they didn't think there was going
- 33:10to be a season two,
- 33:12I don't think you'd have Adler and James
- 33:15and Dallin show up in Copenhagen to get
- 33:17that true, get that pro card.
- 33:25I don't think they would have done that.
- 33:32Lito,
- 33:32also recovery from a golf event isn't the
- 33:34same as recovering from a CrossFit event.
- 33:37Granted, but again,
- 33:39golf does not let you come and take
- 33:41a couple holes off and then jump back
- 33:44in and play the rest of the holes.
- 33:45They don't let that happen.
- 33:51John George says,
- 33:52Grant's cameo on Jenny's recap was funny
- 33:54as F. It was good.
- 33:56It was really good.
- 33:57It was a nice,
- 33:59pleasant surprise and a full circle moment
- 34:04for Jenny and Grant.
- 34:09That's true.
- 34:10Gracie says that's true.
- 34:12But did fee get a pro card?
- 34:13I thought she didn't.
- 34:14She did not.
- 34:15But when you're when you're taking points
- 34:18from other athletes because you've jumped
- 34:21back in,
- 34:22that's where it really gets twisted.
- 34:25So she takes off to events.
- 34:27She comes back in,
- 34:28and maybe she gets a top five.
- 34:30And I'm just saying hypothetically because
- 34:32I can't remember all of her finishes.
- 34:34She gets a top five.
- 34:34She gets all the points for that top
- 34:36five.
- 34:38If she would not have been able to
- 34:39continue,
- 34:39some other athlete would have gotten that
- 34:42place, and they lose those points.
- 34:45And if you looked at the end of
- 34:46the WFP season,
- 34:48there were a ton of ties.
- 34:50a ton of ties.
- 34:52So that placement could have made a huge
- 34:54difference in what level of pro card you
- 34:58got at the end of the season.
- 35:12Exactly, Wayne.
- 35:13She impacted points for others trying to
- 35:15get their card.
- 35:16Right.
- 35:17And you had a tie for first.
- 35:19You had a three-way tie for third.
- 35:23There were so many ties that every little
- 35:25point mattered on that women's division.
- 35:34Grace says, okay,
- 35:35I see what you're saying.
- 35:36I don't necessarily agree,
- 35:37but I see your point.
- 35:41Right,
- 35:42and the comment that I'm reading here,
- 35:44she's entitled to that opinion,
- 35:47or he or she is entitled to that
- 35:49opinion,
- 35:50and you're entitled to yours as well.
- 35:52I'm just telling you as a sports fan
- 35:54watching other sports,
- 35:55it doesn't make sense to me.
- 36:01And so I have a hard time accepting
- 36:05why someone would be able to compete for
- 36:07a couple events,
- 36:08take a couple off and then come back.
- 36:11It just it doesn't compute in my brain
- 36:13after watching and being a sports fan my
- 36:15entire life watching other sports.
- 36:20And so that's why I brought it up.
- 36:22I'm not here to bash on anybody.
- 36:24Everybody's entitled to their opinion.
- 36:27But my opinion is that it skews things
- 36:31for people, just like John George says.
- 36:34It's dumb and skews the points.
- 36:36Same thing happens when CrossFit count
- 36:37scores in quarterfinals or semis for
- 36:40athletes that don't do all the tests.
- 36:42It's just dumb.
- 36:43Do them all or get a zero for
- 36:45all of them.
- 36:46Yeah.
- 36:47I mean, that's even a bigger issue, John.
- 36:49Um, I agree with you.
- 36:55And it, and it,
- 36:56it even goes to the place where if
- 36:58one person inputs an incorrect score,
- 37:02but because they're so far down the
- 37:03leaderboard, nobody checks it.
- 37:05It skews the overall points for other
- 37:07people.
- 37:08That is such a massive problem in the
- 37:11opening quarterfinals.
- 37:13Um,
- 37:15but I don't even know how you fix
- 37:16it.
- 37:18I mean,
- 37:18I could see where if you didn't do
- 37:19all the events,
- 37:20you just get eliminated from the
- 37:21leaderboard.
- 37:22That seems like the easy fix,
- 37:24but the video review of people who could
- 37:27skew scores with the number of people that
- 37:30CrossFit has doing the reviews and the
- 37:32number of people that enter the open,
- 37:34and we don't want to discourage people
- 37:35from entering the open.
- 37:38It just seems to be,
- 37:41almost an impossible task to figure out
- 37:44how to fix that.
- 37:50So yeah, I see what you're saying.
- 37:53And it is a mess.
- 37:55It's not just a WFP problem.
- 37:58If you think back to the twenty twenty
- 38:00three semifinals in Orlando,
- 38:02when Alex Caron was told that he didn't
- 38:06meet the minimum minimum work requirement
- 38:09and was exited from the competition,
- 38:14even though CrossFit didn't post a minimum
- 38:16work requirement.
- 38:18they said it was due to it created
- 38:20an unfair balance by him not even making
- 38:23an attempt on the ring muscle-up.
- 38:25This has been an issue for a long
- 38:27time in CrossFit as well as WFP.
- 38:31I think there should be established
- 38:33minimum work requirements.
- 38:34If you get to semifinals and you can't
- 38:37do a ring muscle-up,
- 38:40should you be allowed to then compete for
- 38:42the games?
- 38:43If you are unable to do a ring
- 38:46muscle-up,
- 38:47you are not able to compete at the
- 38:49CrossFit Games,
- 38:53and someone else should get that shot.
- 39:00I do not disagree with you, Graces,
- 39:02fifteen forty.
- 39:03People were pissed about it.
- 39:05But again,
- 39:05that's one of those things that never
- 39:07computed in my head that people should be
- 39:10pissed off about it,
- 39:12because if you can't do the event,
- 39:15you shouldn't be able to take it off
- 39:17and then come back and continue to
- 39:18compete.
- 39:20The test to get to the games is
- 39:23this complete six event test,
- 39:26which happened at that semifinal.
- 39:28If you cannot complete the six events that
- 39:32are testing this balanced fitness level,
- 39:36you shouldn't be allowed to compete at the
- 39:37games.
- 39:48Wayne Short,
- 39:48they need to release season tour stop
- 39:51dates soon so athletes can plan.
- 39:52Season starts in less than sixty days.
- 39:55Yeah,
- 39:55that's another animal that maybe we'll
- 39:57touch on later this week.
- 40:00Alito,
- 40:01what is the minimum work requirements
- 40:02point for you, Scott,
- 40:03to prove that the athlete can physically
- 40:05do a movement or to tire him or
- 40:07her out enough to make it fair?
- 40:10Yes.
- 40:12It is both of those.
- 40:17it is one,
- 40:18you should be able to prove that you
- 40:20can do the movement.
- 40:21If you cannot do that movement,
- 40:24then you shouldn't be a CrossFit Games
- 40:26athlete.
- 40:29If you...
- 40:32can't do the movements and you want to
- 40:36take an event off,
- 40:40you should have to do at least this
- 40:42much of the event to be tired out
- 40:44so that it's fair for the rest of
- 40:46the competition.
- 40:47Yes, both of those.
- 40:49But like in the Alex Caron situation,
- 40:53if you can't do a ring muscle-up,
- 40:54should you be going to the games?
- 40:56Yes.
- 40:58And in that moment,
- 40:59that's the test that you're given.
- 41:01If you can't pass that test,
- 41:04you shouldn't go to the games.
- 41:10In Fee's case at WFP,
- 41:12if you can't do a deficit handstand
- 41:15pushup, which was the test,
- 41:18you shouldn't get a pro card.
- 41:21And I know it was due to injury,
- 41:23but injuries happen in sports.
- 41:26And on that day and on that test,
- 41:29you couldn't complete the test.
- 41:39So that is my belief.
- 41:43You need to be able to complete the
- 41:44test given today.
- 41:47And if you cannot,
- 41:50then you're not a games athlete.
- 41:52You're not a pro card member.
- 42:00Lito agreed.
- 42:01Same for max lifts, lift events,
- 42:04in my opinion.
- 42:04You can't just do a thirty five kilogram
- 42:06snatch and call today.
- 42:08Totally agree.
- 42:10And that minimum work requirement should
- 42:12be established.
- 42:14Now,
- 42:14if you get three shots and you are
- 42:18making valiant attempts at a legit weight,
- 42:22that is making a valiant attempt.
- 42:25And you're getting it overhead.
- 42:27You just miss it.
- 42:29That's one thing.
- 42:30But to give up and just pick up
- 42:32a bar and throw it over your head,
- 42:34no.
- 42:35Not cool.
- 42:40Train Olive,
- 42:41is it different to you if an athlete
- 42:44comes into the competition with an injury
- 42:46versus anyone during the competition?
- 42:48No.
- 42:49If you cannot complete the test given to
- 42:51you at that moment,
- 42:54you cannot prove that you deserve to move
- 42:57up to either a games athlete position or
- 43:03a World Fitness Project pro card.
- 43:10Grace says,
- 43:11I don't think you should distinguish
- 43:15between people.
- 43:18It's hard to distinguish because people
- 43:21hide injuries.
- 43:22If you can complete the test,
- 43:26then it doesn't matter if you're hiding an
- 43:28injury or not.
- 43:31You are given a six event test.
- 43:34You should have to complete all six events
- 43:37to be able to be tested to go
- 43:39to the games.
- 43:40Whether you're hiding an injury or not,
- 43:43some people can fight through an injury
- 43:44and be able to do the test.
- 43:46More power to them.
- 44:01I think Kenneth Lap wrote in the wrong
- 44:03chat.
- 44:09Alito, it's harsh,
- 44:10but they've got more opportunities than
- 44:12ever.
- 44:12So if the live event doesn't go their
- 44:16way, they can do online semis.
- 44:18Being the fittest also means being
- 44:20injury-free relatively.
- 44:21Exactly.
- 44:22Exactly.
- 44:24It is harsh,
- 44:25but sports are harsh sometimes.
- 44:28Sports are hard.
- 44:31The people at the pro level of any
- 44:33sport are the best in the world.
- 44:36And they fought through a lot to get
- 44:37there.
- 44:38And part of that is staying healthy or
- 44:41healthy enough to complete the test.
- 44:44People play hurt all the time,
- 44:46but they can complete the test that they
- 44:48are given or the task they are given.
- 44:55Train all of how is it any different
- 44:57when there are lower level athletes, i.e.
- 44:59when they had the countries compete and
- 45:01they couldn't finish a workout though.
- 45:04I can't factor that in.
- 45:06That is not the format we have today.
- 45:08That was a weird and wild thing that
- 45:11happened back then.
- 45:13Now we only get thirty people to the
- 45:15games and to make sure the right thirty
- 45:17get to the games.
- 45:19You better complete the test.
- 45:30Wayne Short,
- 45:31especially where cash is paid for events,
- 45:33he could just sit out every event and
- 45:37win the one rep max events.
- 45:38He could.
- 45:39And is that fair?
- 45:41Is that fair to the other people who
- 45:42have tired themselves out on all the other
- 45:44events to then try to compete against him
- 45:48in those events?
- 45:59Lito, train a la faire,
- 46:01but there was essentially a minimum work
- 46:02requirement, i.e.
- 46:03they got cut after an event.
- 46:06Very true.
- 46:09And Winner's just playing devil's
- 46:10advocate.
- 46:13And now she's laughing.
- 46:15She's just trying to push those buttons.
- 46:20You guys almost got me.
- 46:24Um...
- 46:28John George asks,
- 46:29doesn't Guy do that anyway?
- 46:32Kind of.
- 46:33But at least he has to go through
- 46:34the motions of the other events.
- 46:36He meets a minimum work requirement.
- 46:41And that's all I'm asking.
- 46:42You have to do all the test questions.
- 46:44He doesn't ever sit out.
- 46:48He doesn't ever sit out.
- 46:50That's one thing you can say.
- 46:54Well, that was a fun discussion,
- 46:55everybody.
