- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome to Jags AM, I'm Kanani Stevens, Brian Sexton, John
- 0:19Speaker 1: Ogier with me today. It's a bit of a dreary
- 0:21Speaker 1: day in Jacksonville, but we make our own sunshine on
- 0:23Speaker 1: a victory Monday. The Jags get their first road win
- 0:26Speaker 1: of the season. They get that five-point victory over the
- 0:28Speaker 1: Bengals in kind of a weird matchup. Today's show brought
- 0:31Speaker 1: to you by Lowe's, but let's get to our big
- 0:32Speaker 1: things brought to you by GEHA, Government Employees Health Association.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Big thing number one is next man up because of
- 0:38Speaker 1: some injuries in the secondary going into the game and
- 0:41Speaker 1: then during the game. It really came down to some
- 0:43Speaker 1: players we didn't necessarily expect, including Safety Ray on lane
- 0:47Speaker 1: who made the game-saving play. It's huge, man.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I mean, we had a lot of guys step in today.
- 0:52Speaker 2: A lot of guys contribute to the win. Credit Ray
- 0:56Speaker 2: for coming in, the preparation, going through it. Campy, I thought,
- 1:00Speaker 2: did a really nice job of calling it, you know,
- 1:03Speaker 2: with him in mind in some ways and putting him
- 1:05Speaker 2: in a position to be successful. So, yeah, definitely needed
- 1:09Speaker 2: everybody today.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Needed everybody, and they got every play that they needed. Brian,
- 1:13Speaker 1: if I told you we were going to be down
- 1:15Speaker 1: to rant lane at safety after losing Caleb Ransom and
- 1:17Speaker 1: Eric Murray, probably a little concerned, but a really heads-up
- 1:21Speaker 1: play and kept the Bengals from getting a first down
- 1:23Speaker 1: and won the game.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Against Joe Burrow and that passing attack, yeah, before the game,
- 1:26Speaker 3: I would have told you very concerned, and especially if
- 1:28Speaker 3: you told me that Eric Murray would be out at
- 1:30Speaker 3: one point either.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Listen, we're a month in.
- 1:32Speaker 3: There's a long way to go. But right now, I
- 1:35Speaker 3: think this might be the most complete team in football.
- 1:37Speaker 1: They.
- 1:38Speaker 3: They entered the season without a glaring weakness anywhere on
- 1:40Speaker 3: the roster. Now, that doesn't mean that they didn't have
- 1:43Speaker 3: areas that they needed to perform in or perform better in.
- 1:46Speaker 3: And there's areas right now that you can point out.
- 1:49Speaker 3: The pass rush has got to get stronger, whatever. But
- 1:52Speaker 3: when you can get down to your fourth and fifth safety,
- 1:55Speaker 3: guys that you are counting on as special teams and
- 1:58Speaker 3: not to be on the field, when you can adjust
- 2:00Speaker 3: and adapt no matter what the circumstances are, a month in,
- 2:04Speaker 3: I think this is the most complete team in football.
- 2:06Speaker 5: Yeah, it was impressive for Rayon Lane. Clearly, in the
- 2:12Speaker 5: fourth quarter, Joe Burrow is a good quarterback, and he's smart.
- 2:16Speaker 5: He knew the fifth safety was in the game, and
- 2:18Speaker 5: he went after Rayon a little bit. You play to
- 2:22Speaker 5: win the game. You play for moments in this league.
- 2:25Speaker 5: He came up big at a big time. Would I
- 2:28Speaker 5: have been concerned? Yeah, I'd have been really concerned. If
- 2:31Speaker 5: he had gotten hurt, I'd have been really concerned, because
- 2:32Speaker 5: then they had one safety. I mean, they were down
- 2:34Speaker 5: two in the secondary. And in that situation, you do
- 2:38Speaker 5: whatever it takes to get the W and get to
- 2:41Speaker 5: Monday and figure out what's next.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Brings us into big thing number two, which is closers.
- 2:46Speaker 1: We saw a close matchup with this team in week
- 2:48Speaker 1: two at the Broncos. They weren't able to come away
- 2:51Speaker 1: with a win, but a close matchup this time around
- 2:53Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence said they found a way to win.
- 2:56Speaker 6: Yeah, obviously it's a big win for us. I mean,
- 2:58Speaker 6: it's hard to win. So anytime you can get a win,
- 3:00Speaker 6: especially on the road, tough place to play, um, It's big.
- 3:04Speaker 6: I think this says a lot about our team. To
- 3:06Speaker 6: be able to win these games, we lost a game
- 3:08Speaker 6: like this in Denver a couple weeks ago, and it's
- 3:11Speaker 6: a good bounce back for us. You're going to have
- 3:12Speaker 6: to win games like this throughout the season where you
- 3:14Speaker 6: maybe don't play your best, and it's not pretty, but
- 3:17Speaker 6: find a way to win.
- 3:19Speaker 1: John, they didn't play their best, and I certainly wouldn't
- 3:21Speaker 1: describe it as a pretty win, but they found a way,
- 3:24Speaker 1: and we talk so much about how those good to
- 3:27Speaker 1: great football teams find a way to win when they
- 3:29Speaker 1: aren't playing their best.
- 3:30Speaker 5: Well, you know what's beautiful is there's a three in
- 3:33Speaker 5: the victory column rather than a two. And that's really
- 3:35Speaker 5: all that matters. I, I get the ugly part because
- 3:39Speaker 5: all the penalties and because stuff got called back and
- 3:41Speaker 5: never got going. To me, there was a lot of
- 3:44Speaker 5: beauty in the fact that you went up to play
- 3:47Speaker 5: a team that I think is going to contend or
- 3:50Speaker 5: right now they believe they're going to contend. They're a
- 3:51Speaker 5: hard team to beat. You led the whole game. You
- 3:55Speaker 5: controlled it. You put them in a situation. Yes, they
- 3:58Speaker 5: stopped them one yard short on the 10th, But the
- 4:02Speaker 5: Bengals were under strain the whole fourth quarter trying to
- 4:05Speaker 5: get back in it. They made it very difficult. I
- 4:09Speaker 5: thought this was a really good, solid, important win. And
- 4:14Speaker 5: it told me a lot about the team. Brian, this is,
- 4:18Speaker 5: I'm going to say it later, it's the kind of
- 4:20Speaker 5: team you build really good seasons on. I mean, the
- 4:22Speaker 5: kind of game that you build really good seasons on.
- 4:26Speaker 5: I thought it was really important and really impressive.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Well, and Liam, Kai talked in his post-game speech to
- 4:31Speaker 3: the team, it's up on Jaguar Social, his commentary there
- 4:35Speaker 3: in the locker room in front of his team, that
- 4:38Speaker 3: a year ago, they didn't finish. They were in the
- 4:41Speaker 3: same spot, in the same locker room, and they couldn't
- 4:44Speaker 3: finish the game. And here they are now, they've won
- 4:47Speaker 3: 11 of their last 12, they have finished strong in
- 4:50Speaker 3: many of those, but When you see where they are
- 4:53Speaker 3: a year later, he called it growth, and.
- 4:55Speaker 5: That's the key.
- 4:56Speaker 3: This is still a team with growth potential in it.
- 5:00Speaker 3: They are just getting started here at the beginning of
- 5:04Speaker 3: the second season of Liam Cohen to be a contender
- 5:07Speaker 3: in the National Football League.
- 5:08Speaker 4: So to see that.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Kind of growth, and as John mentioned, to go on
- 5:11Speaker 3: the road against another team that considers itself a contender,
- 5:14Speaker 3: and then this time to finish, to answer the bell,
- 5:17Speaker 3: it was really impressive.
- 5:19Speaker 1: What a difference a year makes. A good thing for
- 5:20Speaker 1: Jaguars fans, certainly. And then we have to mention this,
- 5:23Speaker 1: our final big thing, self-inflicted. Ten penalties for this team
- 5:27Speaker 1: in the first half, 13 in the game, 125 penalty
- 5:30Speaker 1: yards for the Jaguars. Liam Cohen says he's never seen
- 5:32Speaker 1: anything like it.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I've never seen a part of anything like that before
- 5:35Speaker 2: in my life. I mean, it just was– I'm not
- 5:38Speaker 2: going to say anything to get fined, but that was–
- 5:41Speaker 2: I'm not trying to do that.
- 5:42Speaker 5: No, I know. That was just mental.
- 5:44Speaker 4: It was mental.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I've just never– quite seen something that much in the
- 5:50Speaker 2: first half of.
- 5:51Speaker 5: The football game.
- 5:53Speaker 1: The Jaguars, Brian, end the day with 13. The Bengals
- 5:56Speaker 1: ended up with 11. You can write it off. Obviously,
- 5:58Speaker 1: it was a unique situation. But learning how to deal
- 6:03Speaker 1: with something like that and still find a way to win,
- 6:05Speaker 1: that has to mean something as well.
- 6:07Speaker 5: Listen, it certainly does.
- 6:08Speaker 3: You commit 13 penalties on the road against the Bengals. Again,
- 6:11Speaker 3: if you'd said this before the game, I would have said, well,
- 6:13Speaker 3: there's no chance they're going to win, especially if you
- 6:15Speaker 3: have a 50-yard kickoff return called back. if you have
- 6:18Speaker 3: two touchdowns pulled off the board and a takeaway that
- 6:21Speaker 3: went into Bengals territory.
- 6:22Speaker 4: I have seen worse. Almost 30 years.
- 6:24Speaker 3: To the day, the Jaguars lost a game in New
- 6:27Speaker 3: England in 1996 in which they committed 17 penalties for
- 6:32Speaker 3: 148 yards. It doesn't happen very often, obviously. They haven't
- 6:36Speaker 3: done that since. But I've seen worse.
- 6:39Speaker 1: It was weird.
- 6:41Speaker 3: I know you're getting that little nervous tick like, okay,
- 6:43Speaker 3: they just had a positive play.
- 6:44Speaker 4: Where's the flag? That was how crazy it was.
- 6:47Speaker 5: Yeah, there used to be a video where a coach
- 6:50Speaker 5: called an official an over-officious jerk. That wasn't remotely what
- 6:55Speaker 5: Liam was doing.
- 6:57Speaker 1: No.
- 6:57Speaker 5: But it did feel a little over-officious. At the same time,
- 7:02Speaker 5: when you looked at some of the calls, they didn't
- 7:04Speaker 5: seem like horrible calls, a lot of them. What was
- 7:07Speaker 5: impressive was multiple moments, specifically where they would get behind
- 7:13Speaker 5: the chains, come back and make up the ground and
- 7:16Speaker 5: get back in it. Very few of those penalties, or
- 7:20Speaker 5: remarkably few, hurt them in the big picture. They overcame
- 7:25Speaker 5: a lot, overcame enough to win, and as Brian's been
- 7:28Speaker 5: saying all morning, overcoming that on the road to win,
- 7:32Speaker 5: even in the moment, never seeming to let what was
- 7:36Speaker 5: going against them bother them, it was really impressive and
- 7:40Speaker 5: probably the biggest takeaway from the game.
- 7:43Speaker 1: All right, stay with us. It was a fun one yesterday.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Cardiac Cats got it done. We've got all the highlights
- 7:47Speaker 1: after the break.
- 7:55Speaker 2: He played his ass off today. I mean, he had
- 7:57Speaker 2: the pick that gets called back. I thought he had
- 8:00Speaker 2: a ton of PBUs. He was in there. I mean,
- 8:03Speaker 2: he had the huge tackle, right, where he ended up
- 8:06Speaker 2: knocking the dude out pretty good. I just thought Trav
- 8:09Speaker 2: balled today, and there was a– We knew with Buster
- 8:12Speaker 2: being down and Braswell being down, he's going to play
- 8:14Speaker 2: every single snap of the game. Had some things for
- 8:17Speaker 2: him on offense, but we just didn't feel like putting
- 8:19Speaker 2: him out there. Oh, man, he gets hurt on offense.
- 8:21Speaker 2: We're in a real bad spot. So didn't want to
- 8:24Speaker 2: put ourselves at risk there, and I was very proud
- 8:27Speaker 2: of the way Travis played defensively today.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Travis Hunter. trying to be your shutdown corner, and he
- 8:33Speaker 1: sure looked like he's got one of those games on
- 8:35Speaker 1: his resume that'll prove that point because forced into action probably.
- 8:38Speaker 1: We've talked about this cornerback rotation, but Monteric Brown, your
- 8:42Speaker 1: other starting corner, not playing. Backup Christian Braswell, also not playing.
- 8:46Speaker 1: So going into this game, you had to expect his
- 8:48Speaker 1: numbers were going to be up 100% of the snaps.
- 8:50Speaker 3: My favorite Travis moment yesterday was when Jordan Lewis intercepted
- 8:56Speaker 3: Joe Burrow, and he waves to him and says, follow me.
- 8:59Speaker 4: You can see it on the tape.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Here I come.
- 9:01Speaker 3: And then he lays a block that allows Jordan to
- 9:03Speaker 3: get to the outside and down the sideline. I mean,
- 9:05Speaker 3: he loves to play football. You've heard that from all
- 9:08Speaker 3: of his teammates, both here and at the college level.
- 9:11Speaker 3: He loves the game, and yesterday it looked like it
- 9:13Speaker 3: loved him back.
- 9:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not sure that he has played enough for
- 9:19Speaker 5: us to have gotten the whole sample size. It's not
- 9:23Speaker 5: criticizing him in any way. It was just his circumstance.
- 9:25Speaker 5: I don't know that we ever saw the sample size
- 9:27Speaker 5: of physicality before. And yesterday he had two such plays,
- 9:32Speaker 5: had an interception that probably could have turned the game
- 9:36Speaker 5: really early. So that's two games in a row now
- 9:40Speaker 5: where there's positive reason to talk about him. Big play.
- 9:45Speaker 5: Big plays.
- 9:46Speaker 4: This was one that was called back by penalty.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Unfortunately, it didn't count, but it was still pretty cool,
- 9:49Speaker 1: and that's why we're going to watch it, because not
- 9:51Speaker 1: only making an interception, jukes out T. Higgins a little
- 9:54Speaker 1: bit on the other end. So it was fun to watch,
- 9:56Speaker 1: and unfortunately.
- 9:57Speaker 5: a.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Lot of these are gonna involve a penalty because that
- 9:59Speaker 1: was just the way the game went.
- 10:01Speaker 5: Yeah, Tee Higgins being a receiver, He's not used to that.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Yeah, he was not ready to play deep. Yeah, no,
- 10:07Speaker 1: that wasn't going to happen. He was not in a
- 10:09Speaker 1: great spot for that. But Travis Hunter just showing his athleticism,
- 10:12Speaker 1: and then when you see him kind of like take
- 10:14Speaker 1: it back the other way on offense, it reminds you
- 10:16Speaker 1: how explosive he can be with the ball in his hands.
- 10:18Speaker 1: So let's move on from there. Another big point to
- 10:21Speaker 1: this game, Jamar Chase got injured very early on in
- 10:24Speaker 1: this game. It's a face mask penalty on Jarrion Jones.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Then Ventrell Miller comes in with the hit. Had to
- 10:30Speaker 1: leave the game with a concussion. Unfortunate. Just felt like
- 10:34Speaker 1: he got kind of caught up with the face mask.
- 10:36Speaker 1: He was facing the wrong way with that hit. But
- 10:38Speaker 1: it affects the whole game when Jamar Chase isn't in.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Perfectly legal hit. I mean, he was there to finish
- 10:43Speaker 3: him off. And what happens there is you can see
- 10:45Speaker 3: his head hit the turf. Ventrell comes and he is
- 10:49Speaker 3: a missile.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Ventrell can't be stopped when he's going. The train of Ventrell.
- 10:53Speaker 5: I got a lot of questions about Will he be suspended?
- 10:56Speaker 5: Will he be fined? I don't think so. I have
- 10:58Speaker 5: no idea because, I mean, once those things get to
- 11:03Speaker 5: other people, you never know.
- 11:04Speaker 4: He wasn't flogged.
- 11:07Speaker 5: Well, but that doesn't always matter in terms of fine.
- 11:09Speaker 5: But I don't, I wouldn't expect that from this because
- 11:13Speaker 5: it did not seem like something he could have avoided
- 11:16Speaker 5: considering the circumstances of the play. I hope that, I
- 11:19Speaker 5: hope nothing like that happens because I don't think that
- 11:21Speaker 5: was the intent.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I don't think so either. Let's look at what would
- 11:24Speaker 1: have been a pretty cool touchdown for Tootin, because Tootin
- 11:27Speaker 1: had a great day. He had a couple almost sort
- 11:31Speaker 1: of situations for him, because obviously they're getting wiped out
- 11:36Speaker 1: by penalties, but he had such a... He was kind
- 11:39Speaker 1: of getting those explosive runs. We felt like he was
- 11:40Speaker 1: getting close to them, and he had a couple of them, but.
- 11:43Speaker 3: He's getting a lot of production without the explosive runs.
- 11:47Speaker 3: I'm going to stay off this one because it's my
- 11:48Speaker 3: hot topic, John.
- 11:49Speaker 5: Yeah, it's... It's close, and the running game is getting very,
- 11:56Speaker 5: very impressive. This is probably your hot topic. I don't
- 11:58Speaker 5: mean to walk away.
- 11:58Speaker 4: No, go for it.
- 12:01Speaker 5: They're already, going into this game, I think they were
- 12:03Speaker 5: top 10. I don't know what their ranking is now.
- 12:07Speaker 5: You usually build top five running games off explosives. They're
- 12:12Speaker 5: going to get those. This, to me, is becoming a
- 12:14Speaker 5: top five running offense.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Yes, and I'm ready for that breakout game that it
- 12:18Speaker 1: feels like it's just right around the corner.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Let's talk about that Jordan Lewis interception, Brian, that you
- 12:24Speaker 1: mentioned earlier. It came at a really kind of crucial
- 12:27Speaker 1: time because it was a little bit slow for both
- 12:28Speaker 1: teams out of the gate. But is it nine straight
- 12:31Speaker 1: games they've had an interception?
- 12:32Speaker 4: Yeah, watch this right here. See him waving? He's saying,
- 12:34Speaker 4: come on, follow me.
- 12:35Speaker 3: I mean, the guy loves to play football, and he's
- 12:37Speaker 3: delivering big hits both there and down the field against receivers.
- 12:41Speaker 4: Boy, it was fun to watch. And for Jordan, it's
- 12:43Speaker 4: his second interception of the season. Fourth is a Jaguar.
- 12:47Speaker 4: And listen, you know the Jaguars have 13 games.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Multi-takeaway games now going back to opening day 2025. Far
- 12:55Speaker 3: and away the most in the NFL, John. I think
- 12:57Speaker 3: I said this last week. They talk about it coming
- 12:59Speaker 3: in bunches in terms of takeaways.
- 13:01Speaker 4: It's not. It's their DNA. It's what they do.
- 13:04Speaker 3: It's been instilled in them, and they practice it, and
- 13:06Speaker 3: they deliver it. 39 takeaways since opening day 2025, tied
- 13:11Speaker 3: with the Bears for most in the league.
- 13:13Speaker 5: There are multiple impressive reasons why they win the games.
- 13:16Speaker 5: The rushing defense, which we probably won't see in highlights
- 13:19Speaker 5: because there's no highlight show.
- 13:22Speaker 1: There was only 23 rush yards.
- 13:23Speaker 5: There's not much to show. This team shuts opponents down,
- 13:27Speaker 5: and they get interceptions in big situations. Without the interceptions yesterday,
- 13:31Speaker 5: they lose the game.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Absolutely. Let's take a look at the first touchdown of
- 13:35Speaker 1: the game for the Jaguars because this is the guy
- 13:38Speaker 1: we're talking about. How are they going to get involved? Well,
- 13:40Speaker 1: he found... Found a broken coverage there, and Trevor, being
- 13:46Speaker 1: who Trevor is now, finds him in the back of
- 13:47Speaker 1: the end zone. And, Brian, you've talked about it before.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Brian Thomas still plays an important role in this offense,
- 13:53Speaker 1: and he will come through when it's his time.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Here's my hot take last week, not because I'm prescient,
- 13:58Speaker 3: but because it was just so obvious. I mean, this
- 14:00Speaker 3: is a guy with such great talent. There's no way
- 14:03Speaker 3: they don't find a way to get him involved. The
- 14:06Speaker 3: number of catches, notwithstanding, that one counted in.
- 14:10Speaker 4: A big, big way.
- 14:12Speaker 5: Well, people keep wanting... They remember the rookie season where
- 14:16Speaker 5: there were different circumstances on this team, and they want
- 14:19Speaker 5: those numbers back. I don't think the numbers are coming back.
- 14:22Speaker 5: So if people can reshape the narrative around him and say,
- 14:28Speaker 5: he is a really important part of a really good group,
- 14:32Speaker 5: I think you're going to see a lot and like
- 14:35Speaker 5: what you see out of him. I just don't think
- 14:37Speaker 5: it's going to be 1,200-yard, Brian.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Since you say it... Yesterday, the receivers had eight catches
- 14:42Speaker 3: for 99 yards. Brenton Strange had seven for 95. That
- 14:46Speaker 3: goes to that whole complete team theory. They can play
- 14:49Speaker 3: any way they have to. They can lean on a
- 14:51Speaker 3: tight end if they have to. They can lean at
- 14:53Speaker 3: Jacoby Myers like they did against the Patriots or give
- 14:56Speaker 3: the ball to the two running backs. They've got so
- 14:59Speaker 3: many options that Brian Thomas is not likely to get
- 15:02Speaker 3: the 10 touchdowns.
- 15:03Speaker 4: Maybe the touchdowns.
- 15:04Speaker 5: Maybe.
- 15:04Speaker 4: But probably not 84 catches, which is what led to
- 15:07Speaker 4: the 1,200 yards.
- 15:08Speaker 5: It's one reason they're overlooked. Nobody knows what they are.
- 15:10Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 15:10Speaker 5: Because they're just balanced.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Yes, I think they like it that way. It could
- 15:14Speaker 1: be anybody's day on any given day. Let's look at
- 15:18Speaker 1: the Bengals' touchdown here. So going into the game, as mentioned,
- 15:22Speaker 1: they were running with Jaron Jones and Travis Hunter. This
- 15:25Speaker 1: is over the middle. This is actually where Eric Murray
- 15:27Speaker 1: got hurt. I think at this point, Caleb Ransom was
- 15:29Speaker 1: already out with a knee injury, so they already had
- 15:31Speaker 1: Rayon Lane in the game. And then coming in here,
- 15:34Speaker 1: Eric Murray going into concussion protocol after this. So Tough
- 15:37Speaker 1: play over there in the middle for them to get
- 15:39Speaker 1: a score, and then that's why this game was so,
- 15:43Speaker 1: felt like get your heart rate up, because it just
- 15:45Speaker 1: was back and forth, much of what we saw in
- 15:48Speaker 1: games last season, but when you're facing an offense that
- 15:52Speaker 1: has Joe Burrow, you have to imagine they're going to score,
- 15:54Speaker 1: but they didn't score as much as one would think.
- 15:56Speaker 5: If you hold the Bengals to 17, or 17, anybody
- 16:03Speaker 5: back there, Liam would say, hey, we hold them to 17,
- 16:05Speaker 5: you're supposed to win the game, because... This offense is
- 16:09Speaker 5: designed to score 20. The team is built to win
- 16:12Speaker 5: if they allow 17 points. It was a very classic
- 16:17Speaker 5: professional football game, in my opinion. You usually don't blow
- 16:22Speaker 5: teams out. The league's not designed to blow teams out.
- 16:25Speaker 5: The Bengals were going to score. It was the fact
- 16:27Speaker 5: that the Jaguars, even when the Bengals were scoring, they
- 16:31Speaker 5: kept scoreboard pressure on them. They were making it hard.
- 16:34Speaker 5: The Bengals could have won.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:36Speaker 5: But it would have been a game where they would
- 16:38Speaker 5: have walked out, the Jaguars would have walked out and gone, ah,
- 16:40Speaker 5: we deserve that game. Sometimes you lose the ones you deserve.
- 16:44Speaker 5: Credit this team for closing the door in a game.
- 16:48Speaker 5: This is a good team, and they keep showing different
- 16:51Speaker 5: reasons why, meaning the Jaguars.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Let me give you another one.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Jaguars are the only team in the league to not
- 16:55Speaker 3: allow a first-half touchdown yet this season. And their 53
- 17:00Speaker 3: points allowed is the number one scoring defense in football.
- 17:04Speaker 3: We see the big splash plays on offense and the takeaways,
- 17:07Speaker 3: but it's the little details.
- 17:09Speaker 4: They keep a team out of the end zone in
- 17:11Speaker 4: the first half. That means they're playing with a lead
- 17:13Speaker 4: in all likelihood.
- 17:14Speaker 3: And in the second half, you've got an explosive offense
- 17:17Speaker 3: and you've got a defense with some momentum.
- 17:19Speaker 4: It helped that Jamar Chase wasn't in the game.
- 17:21Speaker 3: A player of that caliber is going to raise their
- 17:24Speaker 3: expected points per play, but it didn't happen yesterday and
- 17:27Speaker 3: the Jaguars took advantage of it.
- 17:29Speaker 1: And playing from ahead is a completely different ball game,
- 17:31Speaker 1: as we've learned over the years. So they're able to
- 17:33Speaker 1: stay on game plan. Foya Lewakin with another interception on
- 17:36Speaker 1: the day. And it is part of their DNA at
- 17:39Speaker 1: this point. Coming in a timely moment, again, in the
- 17:42Speaker 1: red zone, keeping the Bengals from scoring there.
- 17:45Speaker 5: To me, this was hands down the biggest play of
- 17:48Speaker 5: the game.
- 17:48Speaker 4: 100%.
- 17:48Speaker 1: It's always someone in the middle. It feels like the linebacker.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Somebody's doing something. And that was just a huge moment.
- 17:53Speaker 5: That was a, to me, you wonder why veterans matter.
- 17:59Speaker 5: I don't know how long Foye plays. This is what
- 18:01Speaker 5: they'll miss about him whenever he can't do it anymore.
- 18:06Speaker 5: I'm not rushing that process. You know what I'm getting at.
- 18:08Speaker 5: He's a veteran linebacker, and you wonder, well, what's the difference?
- 18:12Speaker 5: A rookie linebacker probably doesn't see the read that Foye saw.
- 18:17Speaker 5: It doesn't have the film study. It doesn't have the experience,
- 18:20Speaker 5: the muscle memory. This was a big-time veteran play. It's
- 18:24Speaker 5: one he'll remember when he retires.
- 18:25Speaker 3: I talked to Foy in the locker room last week
- 18:26Speaker 3: because I said, you remind me of Paul Puzlesny, who
- 18:29Speaker 3: later in his career overcame the lack of quickness and
- 18:32Speaker 3: speed that befalls players as they get older with film study.
- 18:36Speaker 3: And that was clearly a play where he knew what
- 18:38Speaker 3: was coming because he lined up in the middle and
- 18:40Speaker 3: then just at the snap of the ball works his
- 18:42Speaker 3: way outside.
- 18:43Speaker 4: Cool number about Foy. That was his 10th interception.
- 18:46Speaker 3: He has 10 sacks in his career as well and
- 18:48Speaker 3: 10 fumble recoveries. That puts him with elite company in
- 18:52Speaker 3: terms of linebackers.
- 18:53Speaker 1: T.J.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Watt and Fred Warner are the only other linebackers in
- 18:56Speaker 3: the league, only other players in the league right now,
- 18:59Speaker 3: who have at least 10 sacks, 10 interceptions, and 10
- 19:02Speaker 3: forced fumbles.
- 19:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I know I've gushed already about the play. It's
- 19:06Speaker 5: a play that when we get to week 12, people
- 19:09Speaker 5: probably won't remember. Maybe because it wasn't flashy, it won't
- 19:13Speaker 5: be on our top 10 plays of the year. Your
- 19:17Speaker 5: own 10... You're up 16-10. They have momentum. They're picking
- 19:25Speaker 5: on Rayon in the back because he's new, and you
- 19:28Speaker 5: got the idea they're trying to figure that situation out.
- 19:31Speaker 5: First down, a pass, and you intercept one of the
- 19:33Speaker 5: best quarterbacks in the league. It was a huge moment
- 19:36Speaker 5: in this early part of the season.
- 19:37Speaker 1: I feel like it really kind of stymied their momentum
- 19:40Speaker 1: as well, which is huge in a game like this. Next,
- 19:43Speaker 1: later on Jaguars possession, talk about Brenton Strange who had
- 19:47Speaker 1: a day. He was clearly the guy that Trevor was
- 19:49Speaker 1: finding open in the offense with a big play over
- 19:52Speaker 1: the middle, one of many he had on that day,
- 19:54Speaker 1: and then it leads into a Chris Rodriguez touchdown, and
- 19:57Speaker 1: we talk about what the running game was able to do. Yes,
- 19:59Speaker 1: spatial tuning, but Chris Rodriguez has been so complimentary when
- 20:03Speaker 1: he's in the game. We didn't know what the split
- 20:05Speaker 1: was going to look like, but Chris Rodriguez taking advantage
- 20:07Speaker 1: of his carries.
- 20:08Speaker 4: I'm going to stay out. I'm going to talk about
- 20:09Speaker 4: the running game in my hot takes.
- 20:10Speaker 1: It's... I.
- 20:12Speaker 5: Don't even think it's there yet. It's not.
- 20:14Speaker 1: That's why it's cool.
- 20:15Speaker 5: But it's starting to look like you think Liam Cohen
- 20:21Speaker 5: wants it to look, meaning you can go to both guys.
- 20:24Speaker 5: I asked Liam after the game, and it maybe didn't
- 20:26Speaker 5: really fit with the reality, but I asked him, was
- 20:29Speaker 5: this one where you get rewarded when you just stick
- 20:32Speaker 5: with it? And that's sure what it felt like. Again...
- 20:38Speaker 5: The sticking with the run and the getting yards in
- 20:40Speaker 5: big situations yesterday, along with the rushing offense, was, I think,
- 20:46Speaker 5: the little hidden football things that made that win so important.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Yeah, and let me touch on something. You mentioned Brenton
- 20:51Speaker 3: Strange at the start of that drive. He also had
- 20:53Speaker 3: a key first down catch on the final. Well, it
- 20:57Speaker 3: wasn't the final drive because Trevor took a knee twice.
- 20:59Speaker 3: But when the Jaguars were driving to get the ball
- 21:02Speaker 3: out of their territory, Brenton Strange came up with some
- 21:04Speaker 3: clutch catches yesterday.
- 21:05Speaker 5: Had a similar one early in the game.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:07Speaker 5: To get the Jaguars out, got a field goal. If
- 21:10Speaker 5: they don't get that early one where he makes the
- 21:11Speaker 5: guy miss, then all of a sudden the Bengals are
- 21:13Speaker 5: kicking a field goal.
- 21:15Speaker 4: Super important player.
- 21:16Speaker 5: Brenton had momentum tilting plays yesterday. Absolutely.
- 21:19Speaker 1: He had seven reception on the eight targets, and that
- 21:22Speaker 1: eighth one was a miss that Trevor pointed out. He
- 21:24Speaker 1: was like, my one miss of the day probably would
- 21:26Speaker 1: have clinched.
- 21:27Speaker 4: It as well.
- 21:27Speaker 3: And again, we come out of Denver, we talk about
- 21:28Speaker 3: where's Jacoby and where's Brenton in back-to-back weeks.
- 21:31Speaker 4: Jacoby has six catches. Brenton has seven.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Seven out of eight, yeah. A lot happened in the
- 21:37Speaker 1: fourth quarter, so I'll try to breeze through some of it,
- 21:39Speaker 1: but a penalty on Trayvon for taunting. is what it is,
- 21:45Speaker 1: out of character for Trayvon from what we've seen. They
- 21:47Speaker 1: were going to stop him, hopefully, and get the ball back,
- 21:49Speaker 1: and that kind of hopefully could run out of the
- 21:51Speaker 1: clock and get a first down. We're getting close towards
- 21:53Speaker 1: the end of the game there. That continued the drive
- 21:56Speaker 1: for the Bengals. They go on to get a touchdown
- 21:58Speaker 1: on this drive, and then it's, you know, it's a
- 22:00Speaker 1: five-point game at this point. And then after this, the
- 22:02Speaker 1: Jaguars weren't able to get a first down. Parker Washington
- 22:05Speaker 1: stepping out of bounds, so the Bengals would get the
- 22:07Speaker 1: ball back. And then on that drive, they were kind of, Dinkin'
- 22:11Speaker 1: and Dunkin', a couple big plays, but then I will
- 22:13Speaker 1: give credit where it's due to the Jaguars because three
- 22:17Speaker 1: stops in a row and then the play we saw
- 22:19Speaker 1: to Rayon Lane because as much credit as I want
- 22:22Speaker 1: to give to every player that stepped up, Rayon Lane
- 22:25Speaker 1: over the middle, making this tackle where he made the tackle,
- 22:28Speaker 1: going low, getting him short of the sticks, it was
- 22:31Speaker 1: just momentous.
- 22:33Speaker 3: I can't tell you how many people have stopped me
- 22:34Speaker 3: in the last 14, 16 hours since this game ended
- 22:37Speaker 3: to say how their heart was racing at the end
- 22:40Speaker 3: of it. But, John, I mean, despite the fact that
- 22:42Speaker 3: the Jaguars have had such a big margin of victory
- 22:44Speaker 3: over their last 12 games, this is how NFL games
- 22:47Speaker 3: are played, especially when you're facing an elite quarterback like
- 22:52Speaker 3: Joe Burrow.
- 22:53Speaker 4: I had some people go, well, they had to stop
- 22:54Speaker 4: him on fourth down.
- 22:55Speaker 5: No, no, no.
- 22:55Speaker 4: They did stop them on fourth down.
- 22:58Speaker 3: And Burrow was going to get yards because he had
- 23:01Speaker 3: big-time players around him all day.
- 23:04Speaker 4: Didn't have them on that particular one. But Joe Burrow's
- 23:06Speaker 4: used to doing this.
- 23:07Speaker 5: It's a game of inches, and it's a game of moments.
- 23:10Speaker 5: They got the play in the moment they needed. Could
- 23:14Speaker 5: it have gone the other way? Sure, that game could
- 23:15Speaker 5: have gone the other way. But part of this league
- 23:19Speaker 5: is over the course of a season, we talked about
- 23:23Speaker 5: the stat getting up in the first half. The idea
- 23:27Speaker 5: is if you play 10 of these close games and
- 23:30Speaker 5: you put yourself in the situation the Jaguars did, which
- 23:32Speaker 5: is making the Bengals play uphill the entire game, yes,
- 23:36Speaker 5: the Bengals could have won. But the Jaguars got up
- 23:39Speaker 5: by 12, which means the Bengals have to do everything right,
- 23:43Speaker 5: have to win every moment like that to get back.
- 23:46Speaker 5: That's what good teams do is they apply that pressure
- 23:49Speaker 5: and make it hard. Had they played that scenario at
- 23:52Speaker 5: the end of that game 10 times, Bengals probably score
- 23:55Speaker 5: a touchdown twice and win. But the Jaguars are really
- 23:58Speaker 5: good right now at making it hard for teams to
- 24:01Speaker 5: beat them. That gets you a long way in this league.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Listen, one of the most important characteristics of a winning
- 24:06Speaker 3: team in the NFL, and you've said it three or
- 24:07Speaker 3: four times this morning, is finding a way to win, right?
- 24:10Speaker 3: Finding a way when you're trailing. Find a way when
- 24:13Speaker 3: the other team is chasing. They found a way, and
- 24:16Speaker 3: they got it done.
- 24:17Speaker 5: And the taunt. Come on. Come on. I mean, it's football.
- 24:23Speaker 5: I could go on and on. I don't want to
- 24:27Speaker 5: get fined. But, ew, he taunted. You can't taunt me.
- 24:32Speaker 5: Not today.
- 24:33Speaker 1: All right, let's take a quick break. We'll be back
- 24:35Speaker 1: and we'll tell you our hot takes after that. Hey, Van,
- 24:48Speaker 1: brought to you by Paramount +. Your home for NFL
- 24:50Speaker 1: on CBS games all season long.
- 24:54Speaker 5: I think this was big for him, obviously.
- 24:55Speaker 7: And this was not like a, I mean, obviously it
- 24:57Speaker 7: was a, a regular game, like a regular season game,
- 25:00Speaker 7: but I think this was against a good quality opponent,
- 25:02Speaker 7: a great offense, and for them to step in and
- 25:04Speaker 7: make plays, I think that's a huge boost to their confidence.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Jarrion Jones playing 100% of the snaps. Travis Hunter playing 100%
- 25:11Speaker 1: of the snaps, so not much of a rotation on
- 25:13Speaker 1: the back end in that one.
- 25:15Speaker 4: He's met a lot of guys.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Some of that was injury necessitated, but... They played well.
- 25:20Speaker 3: They're not getting away from the rotation. People can complain
- 25:23Speaker 3: about it all they want. I talked to Matt Arujo
- 25:25Speaker 3: last week. They think that the rotation keeps them fresh,
- 25:27Speaker 3: gets good players on the field. They are not getting
- 25:30Speaker 3: away from it.
- 25:31Speaker 1: All right, Brian, we've heard about the run game. Tell
- 25:33Speaker 1: us your hot take.
- 25:33Speaker 3: All right, the run game is ready, and I want
- 25:36Speaker 3: to go to, you went to the Foye-Lewikun interception, the
- 25:38Speaker 3: very next play, right? You take the ball away, but
- 25:42Speaker 3: you've got it deep in your own territory, and the
- 25:44Speaker 3: Bengals had shown momentum coming down the field. Basial Tootin
- 25:48Speaker 3: rips off the longest run of his career, a 20-yarder.
- 25:52Speaker 3: It was a thing of beauty because they talk about
- 25:54Speaker 3: yards over expectable. This is a perfect example of it.
- 25:57Speaker 3: He hits the hole that was created by Brenton Strange.
- 26:00Speaker 3: But Strange didn't move his guy out, so he bounces
- 26:03Speaker 3: it to the outside and goes 20 yards.
- 26:05Speaker 4: That was a critical moment for the Jaguars. Not because
- 26:09Speaker 4: they scored on the drive. They didn't.
- 26:10Speaker 3: They ended up having to punt. But it completely flipped
- 26:13Speaker 3: the field. So here's what you have. You have Basial
- 26:16Speaker 3: Tootin at 4.6 yards per carry. You have Chris Rodriguez
- 26:19Speaker 3: at 4.3.
- 26:20Speaker 4: And they're doing it really well.
- 26:22Speaker 3: With two explosive runs, the 20-yard run that you got
- 26:25Speaker 3: from facial and the 25-yard touchdown run. That, to me,
- 26:29Speaker 3: second half, a couple of explosive runs when you needed
- 26:32Speaker 3: it the most in the fourth quarter, and you finally
- 26:35Speaker 3: got it. They've been productive. They've been efficient. They've been successful,
- 26:39Speaker 3: but they haven't been explosive. We saw it in the
- 26:42Speaker 3: fourth quarter yesterday. They have the ability to do it,
- 26:45Speaker 3: and it looks like right now, They're on track to
- 26:48Speaker 3: be able to start showing that explosiveness on a more
- 26:50Speaker 3: regular basis. Now, big challenge this week. Philadelphia is massive inside.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Big guys on the inside. And you've got Jalen Carter
- 26:58Speaker 3: and Jordan Davis, and they're great players.
- 27:01Speaker 4: Go do it again.
- 27:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't have a stat for this. I'm sure
- 27:05Speaker 5: there is one. But in addition to the explosive plays,
- 27:09Speaker 5: doesn't it feel like they have more plays where it
- 27:12Speaker 5: looks like it's going to be one or two yards?
- 27:15Speaker 5: And all of a sudden the pile kind of rolls
- 27:17Speaker 5: in their favor and they've got four or five. I mean,
- 27:20Speaker 5: and it seems like they're pushing people around a little
- 27:24Speaker 5: bit more. It's hard to push everybody around in this league,
- 27:26Speaker 5: but it just feels like Brian, I'm with you. There's
- 27:32Speaker 5: some high profile reasons. This team is good. This running
- 27:37Speaker 5: game being consistent. I think every game has been over
- 27:39Speaker 5: a hundred yards or every game has been 115. Maybe
- 27:42Speaker 5: Denver was a little lower. But it feels like it's
- 27:44Speaker 5: becoming something they can rely on in this physicality mode.
- 27:49Speaker 5: It's what they wanted, and I think they've achieved it.
- 27:51Speaker 3: And how much better is your very efficient quarterback who's
- 27:54Speaker 3: playing at an extremely high level? How much better is
- 27:56Speaker 3: he when the running game is consistently producing these kinds
- 28:00Speaker 3: of plays?
- 28:01Speaker 4: It is really going to take the offense to another level.
- 28:04Speaker 5: If we're right about what we're seeing, it puts this
- 28:08Speaker 5: offense very hard to stop. And to me, it elevates
- 28:10Speaker 5: them into one of the two or three, four best
- 28:12Speaker 5: teams in the league.
- 28:12Speaker 1: You bet.
- 28:13Speaker 5: Um, I went with, uh, this is the kind of
- 28:17Speaker 5: game kind of win that you build playoff seasons on. Uh,
- 28:21Speaker 5: and it's striking how early in the season, these kinds
- 28:30Speaker 5: of games sometimes get overlooked. Uh, I think when we
- 28:36Speaker 5: look back on this season, it might be one that
- 28:39Speaker 5: you forget, right? Cause it wasn't a blowout. It, I
- 28:42Speaker 5: don't know how the Bengals will fare moving forward. They
- 28:44Speaker 5: didn't have a spectacular play. But when you go on
- 28:47Speaker 5: the road in hostile environments and figure out a way
- 28:49Speaker 5: to win those, I think this team's anywhere from a
- 28:52Speaker 5: 10 to 13 win team this year. Losing these early
- 28:57Speaker 5: is what sort of knocks you down to 10 and
- 28:59Speaker 5: has you fighting for wild card. Winning these is what
- 29:05Speaker 5: the ones that are overlooked are often the most important ones.
- 29:09Speaker 5: And I think this is one of those.
- 29:10Speaker 4: Liam Cohen has won seven.
- 29:12Speaker 3: His team has won seven of their ten road games
- 29:14Speaker 3: in his tenure here. That one is as important and
- 29:18Speaker 3: as impressive as any because of who you were playing
- 29:21Speaker 3: and when you were playing them.
- 29:22Speaker 5: And it gets, I mean, we all talked, oh, this
- 29:26Speaker 5: early season schedule is tough. And it is. And then
- 29:31Speaker 5: even in the inbox, it's like once you win them,
- 29:35Speaker 5: the fans sort of forget that these were tough games
- 29:38Speaker 5: to win. At 1-1, you're staring at the Patriots who
- 29:42Speaker 5: were in the Super Bowl last year, and you're staring
- 29:45Speaker 5: at the Bengals. You got them at home. You haven't
- 29:46Speaker 5: beaten them in three or four meetings. You know, 1-3
- 29:52Speaker 5: was a possibility. You know, they've now gotten themselves sort
- 29:55Speaker 5: of above water where you can go on and make
- 29:58Speaker 5: some hay.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:59Speaker 5: It was a really impressive last two weeks.
- 30:02Speaker 1: It's also a game we looked at last year when
- 30:03Speaker 1: we looked back on week two and we're like, if
- 30:05Speaker 1: they had won that, it would have affected so much
- 30:07Speaker 1: more because there's always a game you lose later in
- 30:08Speaker 1: the season that you should win. And that's why it's
- 30:11Speaker 1: so important to get these wins early on when you
- 30:13Speaker 1: can so that you're not, you know, trying to make,
- 30:15Speaker 1: have to win nine games in a row on the
- 30:17Speaker 1: back end of the season. So for me, I'm going
- 30:20Speaker 1: to disagree with Brian a little bit. And I know
- 30:21Speaker 1: what has been said. Rotate if you must, but not
- 30:24Speaker 1: number 12. We saw Travis Hunter play 100% of the
- 30:27Speaker 1: snaps on defense and he didn't play on offense. And
- 30:30Speaker 1: we know they're going to work him back into the
- 30:31Speaker 1: offense a little bit. But part of that predicated by
- 30:34Speaker 1: injury because they didn't have Monteric Brown out there nor
- 30:37Speaker 1: Christian Braswell. So Travis Hunter was forced into playing. But
- 30:40Speaker 1: unless he needs a breather, I need to see more because... John,
- 30:44Speaker 1: we talked about it earlier, that physicality we hadn't seen
- 30:46Speaker 1: from him. Saw a lot of it in this matchup,
- 30:49Speaker 1: the tackling and blocking for his teammates when they got
- 30:52Speaker 1: an interception. Travis Hunter can do many special things. It's
- 30:55Speaker 1: time to give him the runway to do that.
- 30:57Speaker 5: Yeah, it'll be interesting how they play that. What will
- 31:00Speaker 5: they consider rotating? Is 100% the answer? Is 92% the answer?
- 31:03Speaker 5: I don't know. I guess I can see both sides.
- 31:05Speaker 5: I can see the rotation concept. uh i also like
- 31:15Speaker 5: you said guy this kid does special things on on
- 31:18Speaker 5: defense and the way he played yesterday you know before
- 31:22Speaker 5: to me it's always been sort of foyer uh josh
- 31:26Speaker 5: and trayvon as sort of your identity pieces on defense
- 31:30Speaker 5: uh and antonio antonio i deserve to be in that
- 31:34Speaker 5: but in the last couple games all of a You know,
- 31:37Speaker 5: everybody talks about energy these days and the boost.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Lifting those around you.
- 31:41Speaker 5: Yeah, and he's done that a couple times, and you're
- 31:43Speaker 5: starting to wonder how much do you want him off
- 31:45Speaker 5: the field on that side of the ball.
- 31:47Speaker 4: For the record, you didn't disagree with me. You disagree
- 31:48Speaker 4: with Matt Arujo.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Fair enough. All right.
- 31:51Speaker 5: He knows where to find God.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Yeah. Stay with us. We'll tell you what's coming up
- 31:55Speaker 1: the rest of the week after the break.
- 31:59Speaker 4: That's our offense.
- 32:00Speaker 6: It's going to be. it's not everyone's day every Sunday.
- 32:04Speaker 6: That's the hard part about it. There's only one football,
- 32:06Speaker 6: and just our guys showing that they're ready. BT obviously
- 32:09Speaker 6: had the touchdown. Brenton had a huge day. Our backs
- 32:14Speaker 6: did some awesome things today. I mean, just the ball
- 32:16Speaker 6: finds who's open and what the defense kind of dictates,
- 32:18Speaker 6: and I think that's a good thing about our guys
- 32:20Speaker 6: is they're not selfish. They're pretty selfless with how they
- 32:24Speaker 6: approach the game plan and the week and They know
- 32:27Speaker 6: that the ball's going to find who's open, and I'm
- 32:29Speaker 6: trying to do my best, obviously, to get guys the
- 32:30Speaker 6: ball in space and let them go play, and I
- 32:32Speaker 6: think guys have done a really good job with it.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Selfless receivers, selfless quarterback. It's a good place to be,
- 32:38Speaker 1: and it makes it hard for, I think, other teams
- 32:40Speaker 1: to predict what the Jaguars are going to look like
- 32:42Speaker 1: because it's a different guy every week.
- 32:44Speaker 5: Look, Brian, you know where I'm going with this. This
- 32:49Speaker 5: franchise is down for a long, long time. They've won
- 32:51Speaker 5: 16 out of the last 21 games.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Yep.
- 32:56Speaker 5: I wrote it, and it's going to sound sappy, the
- 32:59Speaker 5: old guy in me. Savor this. This is the fun stuff.
- 33:05Speaker 5: And I get a lot of heart attacks at the
- 33:08Speaker 5: end of that game, and it was stressful. You're going
- 33:11Speaker 5: to have those. This is a good team that if
- 33:14Speaker 5: it stays healthy, if it continues to hear Liam and
- 33:18Speaker 5: keeps playing hard with the energy, it's going to be 11-6,
- 33:22Speaker 5: 12-5 kind of team. That doesn't mean they're going to
- 33:28Speaker 5: coast 15-point wins every week, but it's a good team.
- 33:32Speaker 3: There are more of the close games, and that's what
- 33:34Speaker 3: you want because that's the way the league is built.
- 33:36Speaker 3: It means that you are a team that can win
- 33:38Speaker 3: the close games when they're there, and that's what we
- 33:41Speaker 3: haven't necessarily seen because they've been able to put up
- 33:43Speaker 3: a lot of points. But you're not going to be
- 33:45Speaker 3: able to do that week in and week out. The
- 33:46Speaker 3: league says that most games are decided by eight points
- 33:49Speaker 3: or less.
- 33:50Speaker 5: And by the way, those two crappy teams the Jaguars beat,
- 33:53Speaker 5: Cleveland's 3-1 and the Patriots beat the Bills.
- 33:55Speaker 3: I was just about to say in Buffalo. That quarterback rebounded.
- 33:58Speaker 3: So it's just the way that the league is. Yes,
- 34:01Speaker 3: we saw a lot of losing football around here for
- 34:02Speaker 3: a number of years. It feels like we're at the
- 34:04Speaker 3: very beginning of a stretch that could rival those 90s
- 34:09Speaker 3: teams in terms of winning and in terms of bringing
- 34:12Speaker 3: big moments to Jaguars fans in North Florida, and it's exciting.
- 34:16Speaker 5: They check a lot of boxes on the things that
- 34:18Speaker 5: make good teams.
- 34:19Speaker 1: I think it's a good point to say as well,
- 34:21Speaker 1: whenever that next loss is, This team is built on
- 34:25Speaker 1: a foundation where they're not going to fall apart. The
- 34:28Speaker 1: next loss is OK. That's unfortunate. But they're going to rebound.
- 34:31Speaker 1: And this isn't something where they're just waiting for the
- 34:33Speaker 1: gust of wind to blow the house of cards over.
- 34:35Speaker 1: Everything here is very much in a place where if
- 34:38Speaker 1: they do face adversity, there's going to be a bounce back.
- 34:40Speaker 1: And I think that's a good place to be.
- 34:41Speaker 4: The question is not going to be how will this
- 34:43Speaker 4: team respond the next time they lose.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Nope. It's going to be a bit of a weird week.
- 34:47Speaker 1: The team's getting ready to head to London, so we'll
- 34:49Speaker 1: be back with you on Wednesday as we get ready
- 34:51Speaker 1: for that trip across the pond for two more games.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Enjoy Victory Monday.
