- 2:23Speaker 3: comprehensive coverage available on air, online, and on Metro News
- 2:27Speaker 3: television as well. So good time to remind you if
- 2:29Speaker 3: you've not yet downloaded the Metro News TV app, please
- 2:32Speaker 3: make sure you do before our coverent starts at seven
- 2:34Speaker 3: o'clock this seve Now, on this election day, should election
- 2:37Speaker 3: Day be a federal holiday? Some say yes, some say no. Well,
- 2:41Speaker 3: one guy who's really into Election Day being a federal
- 2:44Speaker 3: holiday is a young writer and he's going to join
- 2:46Speaker 3: us a little bit later on the show. Plus Canock
- 2:48Speaker 3: Candic Commission Ben Silangos here, and we're gonna step away
- 2:51Speaker 3: from politics just for a moment because there's a big event,
- 2:53Speaker 3: a fashion show coming up to benefit the Children's Theater
- 2:56Speaker 3: of West Virginia. I'll get into all that, plus your
- 2:58Speaker 3: calls and texts too. Now, with it be an election day,
- 3:02Speaker 3: I want to check with the Secretary of State's office.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Originally we had wester Virginian Secretary of State Mac Warner
- 3:06Speaker 3: scheduled for this slot. However, it is election day, so
- 3:10Speaker 3: he's got kind of called away to do something else.
- 3:12Speaker 3: But we have the chief of staff of the Secretary
- 3:15Speaker 3: of State's Office, Deep Cursey, with his deeg.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Good morning, welcome to the.
- 3:17Speaker 7: Show, morning to day. Thank you for having me, thank.
- 3:21Speaker 3: You for being here, and I do want to mention
- 3:22Speaker 3: programming note that Secretary Warner is scheduled to be on
- 3:25Speaker 3: with Hoppy in the first position this morning. Hopefully he'll
- 3:28Speaker 3: be able to keep that because you know, it is
- 3:30Speaker 3: election day and I got a little experience in that.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I know how it goes, Deeke. But everything, as far
- 3:36Speaker 3: as you know, pull's been open for two and a
- 3:38Speaker 3: half hours now. Everything running smoothly so far.
- 3:42Speaker 7: Running the smooth across the state. You know, of course,
- 3:44Speaker 7: we always have a little ones here, twosy here, there
- 3:47Speaker 7: Logan County, they had a precinct go down with power
- 3:50Speaker 7: being out, but the county clerk there got the generator
- 3:53Speaker 7: hooked up immediately and voters were able to walk in
- 3:55Speaker 7: and vote with some nice flashlights and the battery power
- 3:59Speaker 7: of the voting machines and a couple of little pulling
- 4:01Speaker 7: places across the state. The size of the ballot was
- 4:05Speaker 7: some leftover blank stock from the primary election, so they
- 4:08Speaker 7: had to swap those out because they're different sizes. Other
- 4:11Speaker 7: than that, things seem to be running very smoothly.
- 4:15Speaker 5: I'm going to talk about Deacon again.
- 4:16Speaker 3: We're talking with Deeke Kurzy and for Mac Warner today
- 4:19Speaker 3: on the All Things Election Day. Let's talk about the
- 4:22Speaker 3: early voting numbers, Deeke, because these numbers, man were off
- 4:26Speaker 3: the charts. I mean nationwide, they were off the charts,
- 4:28Speaker 3: but especially it's numbers. In talking to some of the
- 4:30Speaker 3: county clerks Vere McCormick here, Brian wood over in Putnam County,
- 4:33Speaker 3: they say there are numbers like like they've never seen before.
- 4:36Speaker 7: Deec it was exceptional. I mean the last election we had,
- 4:41Speaker 7: not counting COVID with the highest number of early voting
- 4:44Speaker 7: turnout for in person was the twenty sixteen general and
- 4:47Speaker 7: two hundred and nine thousand people voted early in person
- 4:50Speaker 7: that year. This year we had three hundred and ten
- 4:52Speaker 7: thousand people vote early and in person. That's one hundred
- 4:54Speaker 7: thousand more than we saw in twenty sixteen, and even
- 4:57Speaker 7: still in twenty twenty, with COVID being the major issue there,
- 5:01Speaker 7: we still beat that number by sixty thousand. So voters
- 5:04Speaker 7: are not just turning out, they're turning out and droves
- 5:06Speaker 7: to vote early and utilize their options here to vote
- 5:09Speaker 7: when it's most convenient for them to.
- 5:11Speaker 3: What do you attribute that, Deeke? I mean, why were
- 5:14Speaker 3: so many? Is it just because you know it's a
- 5:16Speaker 3: presidential election and that more people want to early vote?
- 5:20Speaker 3: I mean, is there anything that you can look at
- 5:22Speaker 3: that you can attribute these large numbers of early voters to.
- 5:27Speaker 7: I don't know if there's any quantifiable data right now
- 5:29Speaker 7: that we could say one way or another, but there's
- 5:31Speaker 7: a number of variables that could very likely have caused you. First,
- 5:35Speaker 7: communication from our office to the media letting folks know
- 5:39Speaker 7: all their different opportunities and dates and times to show
- 5:41Speaker 7: up and vote when it's convenient for them. Another factor
- 5:44Speaker 7: is on the campaign side of the world, candidates, even
- 5:49Speaker 7: national candidates, were encouraging people to vote early. So it
- 5:53Speaker 7: could be that the messaging is getting to the voters better.
- 5:56Speaker 7: It could also be an adoption thing where now that
- 5:58Speaker 7: we've had early voting for over twenty years, the number
- 6:02Speaker 7: has increased every election, So it could just be part
- 6:04Speaker 7: of the trend.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right, and this has been something that's been
- 6:07Speaker 3: going on for some time. And I mean people enjoy it,
- 6:10Speaker 3: you know. I mean they enjoy in West Virginia having
- 6:12Speaker 3: that ten days of early voting, including the two saturdays.
- 6:14Speaker 3: We're talking with Tee Kersey from the West Virginia Secretary
- 6:16Speaker 3: of State's office. One note I wanted to throw out
- 6:19Speaker 3: there to people and I let your office know about
- 6:21Speaker 3: this yesterday that over in Putnam County, I was talking
- 6:25Speaker 3: to Putnham County Clerk Brian Wood. They had a one
- 6:28Speaker 3: hundred and four year old lady that showed up for
- 6:33Speaker 3: early voting. Oh, but not to be outdone. In Putnham County, Deeck,
- 6:37Speaker 3: there was a one hundred eight year old lady who
- 6:40Speaker 3: voted by absentee ballot. That's got to be I would
- 6:43Speaker 3: think some sort of a some sort of an age record.
- 6:48Speaker 7: It's exceptional, and we're actually going to try and and
- 6:51Speaker 7: grab those stories and maybe do a nice piece for them.
- 6:55Speaker 7: But I heard from Katie Slater in Dodgers County. She
- 6:58Speaker 7: had one hundred two year old vet who sat there
- 7:00Speaker 7: and talked about every election he's voted in. So there's
- 7:03Speaker 7: been a lot of folks turn up and vote who've
- 7:05Speaker 7: been doing so for decades, and we love those stories absolutely.
- 7:08Speaker 5: Talking to with Dee Gurzy from the Secretary of State's office.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Now, there were a couple of problems reported during early
- 7:14Speaker 3: voting around the state. The big one that got probably
- 7:16Speaker 3: got the most attention deep was then in Mingo County
- 7:18Speaker 3: where apparently a candidate was a state candida for state Senate,
- 7:22Speaker 3: was left off the ballot. They're working to correct that.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Can you give us an update on that.
- 7:28Speaker 7: Yeah, absolutely so. Mingo County officials were able to actually
- 7:32Speaker 7: correct that error during early voting within a couple of
- 7:36Speaker 7: hours of discovering it. That doesn't solve the problem come
- 7:41Speaker 7: canvas when they determine the margin of the votes split
- 7:44Speaker 7: between the winner and the second highest vote getter, But
- 7:47Speaker 7: that'll be something they have to figure out using a
- 7:49Speaker 7: legal process called an election contest. The good news for
- 7:52Speaker 7: the voters is as soon as the air occurred, it
- 7:54Speaker 7: was caught by the locals and they fixed it within
- 7:58Speaker 7: a couple of hours. They even suspended in person voting
- 8:01Speaker 7: to make sure they could stop the bleeding there. So
- 8:05Speaker 7: it's an issue, but it seems to be from everything
- 8:07Speaker 7: we're seeing, they've been very cooperative. A human error at
- 8:11Speaker 7: the ballot proofing stage. There's three people that proof ballots
- 8:13Speaker 7: for every county, Republican, Democrat and the county clerk, and
- 8:17Speaker 7: they just missed this candidate. So there's no excuse for it.
- 8:20Speaker 7: There's no good excuse for it at least, and our
- 8:23Speaker 7: office will focus on that for the twenty twenty six elections.
- 8:25Speaker 7: But for the voters, feel confident that it doesn't appear
- 8:27Speaker 7: to be anything nefarious, no inside job or anything like that.
- 8:31Speaker 7: You know, that's politics talking. When you read those kinds
- 8:33Speaker 7: of things. It just appears to be a human error.
- 8:36Speaker 3: And you've got people on the road from the office
- 8:39Speaker 3: in all fifty five counties today to travel to nearly
- 8:42Speaker 3: every precinct in the entire state to give voters a
- 8:45Speaker 3: little bit more confidence.
- 8:46Speaker 7: Right, Well, I don't know if we're going to hit
- 8:48Speaker 7: nearly every precinct there's almost seventeen hundred of them.
- 8:51Speaker 5: However, I said nearly, nearly nearly.
- 8:55Speaker 7: Yeah, that's right, you know how to do that. Yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 7: We'll be in every single county in the state. Eighteen
- 9:00Speaker 7: people staffed, including the secretary who is on the road
- 9:03Speaker 7: just now. He hit seven precincts this morning and everything
- 9:06Speaker 7: seems to be running very smoothly here in Kanawha County.
- 9:09Speaker 7: We've also have for this election the Fusion Centers Fusion
- 9:12Speaker 7: Liaison officers. Over four hundred citizens have signed up to
- 9:16Speaker 7: be Fusion Liaison officers who report intelligence from the field
- 9:20Speaker 7: to the Fusion Center. These aren't investigators. These are every
- 9:23Speaker 7: day citizens and folks that work for agencies who are
- 9:26Speaker 7: reporting their experience on election day. So we can target
- 9:29Speaker 7: any kind of immediate response to those locations and have
- 9:32Speaker 7: somebody on the ground that had eyeballs on the situation.
- 9:35Speaker 7: So it's a great day for us, and we're very
- 9:38Speaker 7: excited to have such a large response team out there
- 9:40Speaker 7: so we can get to any issues when they come
- 9:43Speaker 7: up inevitably quickly so it doesn't impact the franchise.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Indeed, before we let you go, if people do suspect
- 9:48Speaker 3: that there's something a little fishy going on, what do
- 9:50Speaker 3: they need to do?
- 9:52Speaker 7: Give us a call first of all eight seven to
- 9:54Speaker 7: seven fraud WV. You can also text us at four
- 9:58Speaker 7: five nine. Just text WV to four five nine nine
- 10:03Speaker 7: fives int us some pictures into some notes and we'll
- 10:05Speaker 7: get somebody right on it. Those good right to our
- 10:07Speaker 7: Investigations division. If it's a voter who needs some help
- 10:09Speaker 7: on election day, or some pole workers that have a
- 10:13Speaker 7: problem that they need immediate assistance with, call your county clerk.
- 10:17Speaker 7: They're the ones that have direct information and then response
- 10:20Speaker 7: capabilities and materials to fix any machine errors or anything
- 10:24Speaker 7: like that. And really it's huge to keep in mind
- 10:29Speaker 7: humans run elections. Things do happen, don't panic.
- 10:32Speaker 5: And don't leave.
- 10:32Speaker 7: Give us a call. We will resolve that we have
- 10:34Speaker 7: people in the field and it will not be something
- 10:37Speaker 7: that will impact your right to vote. And a reminder
- 10:41Speaker 7: for everybody, if you're there at seven thirty when the
- 10:43Speaker 7: polls close, don't leave. Stay in line. You will get
- 10:47Speaker 7: to vote, but make sure you're about seven thirty. If
- 10:48Speaker 7: you're late, you won't get to vote. So make sure
- 10:50Speaker 7: you're there about seven thirty and just wait in.
- 10:52Speaker 5: Line and that they'll give you a number. This is
- 10:54Speaker 5: the way that works. And if you are in anisody
- 10:56Speaker 5: and you will be able to vote. Dee Curzy, Chief
- 10:58Speaker 5: a staff for Western Dean the Sick Tor State Macwarner,
- 11:00Speaker 5: I appreciate you being here, man. Have a good election day.
- 11:03Speaker 5: I know it's going to be a long day for you.
- 11:05Speaker 5: It's a long day for the media. It's a long
- 11:07Speaker 5: day for everybody. So just to keep your chin up, man,
- 11:10Speaker 5: and we'll talk soon.
- 11:11Speaker 7: Thanks a lot, Thanks Dave, thanks for covering it.

- 12:38Speaker 3: Polls close there at seven and usually report in a
- 12:40Speaker 3: timely manner. Trump will win, says a Texter. But the
- 12:43Speaker 3: Louisville Lexington metro is a great potential precursor for other
- 12:47Speaker 3: urban world divides. If Harris wins big in the metro,
- 12:52Speaker 3: let's say sixty five thirty five split or better, that
- 12:54Speaker 3: could be indicative of Georgia and Atlanta Atlanta Fulton, where
- 12:59Speaker 3: the urban versus rural population divide actually tips urban and
- 13:03Speaker 3: could move the state to Harris. Same in North Carolina
- 13:06Speaker 3: with Charlotte Mecklenberg. Emphasis on blue wall very important, but
- 13:09Speaker 3: don't overlook the rural urban divide where urban has greater
- 13:12Speaker 3: overall voter numbers. There is somebody right there that follows
- 13:17Speaker 3: elections closely, folks. Let me tell you. Tex says, just
- 13:21Speaker 3: stop at the Chapmanville down in my home county Chapmanville
- 13:25Speaker 3: bus garage to vote, and the line was one hundred
- 13:28Speaker 3: out the door. I will try again later in the day.
- 13:31Speaker 3: It's the inefficient workers that are the problem. It was
- 13:34Speaker 3: the same way last presidential election. Well, I know the
- 13:36Speaker 3: county clerk down there, John Turner. He's a fine fine man.
- 13:38Speaker 3: He's served as County Clerk of Logan County for twenty
- 13:41Speaker 3: years or more, and I'm sure that he's aware of that,

- 16:18Speaker 3: four nine three five five zero zero eight. One thing
- 16:21Speaker 3: I do want to mention about election day, County Commissioner
- 16:24Speaker 3: Ben Selango's with us.
- 16:25Speaker 5: Ben, Good morning.
- 16:26Speaker 11: Morning, I'm great. How are you're having me? I love
- 16:28Speaker 11: the new studio.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Fellow Cowboys fan. We'll not talk about football.
- 16:31Speaker 5: Oh my god.
- 16:32Speaker 11: Well, the only thing that was the only thing to
- 16:34Speaker 11: save me is that the Mountaineers had a bye week.
- 16:36Speaker 11: Both my teams didn't lose in the same weekend. Okay,
- 16:39Speaker 11: you know that makes for a disastrous weekend.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Yeah, And I do want to mention this about elections,
- 16:44Speaker 3: about election day, and and I've told the story before,
- 16:47Speaker 3: have been a former employee of.
- 16:48Speaker 5: The Secretary of State's office.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Number one problem that when we were out in the
- 16:53Speaker 3: field that we saw was not over. You know, if
- 16:56Speaker 3: you vote for this person, you're going to hell or
- 16:58Speaker 3: you know that kind of person or anything. It was
- 17:00Speaker 3: people wearing campaign material, right, and they just many times
- 17:03Speaker 3: a commissioner, they didn't think about it. But just so
- 17:06Speaker 3: you know, if you're going to vote today, you cannot
- 17:09Speaker 3: wear a Maga hat, you cannot wear Trump material, you
- 17:12Speaker 3: cannot wear vote for John Smith for county commit you
- 17:16Speaker 3: cannot wear that in the polling place. And technically now
- 17:18Speaker 3: they can't refuse you to vote, but a poll worker
- 17:21Speaker 3: does have the right to tell you you have to
- 17:24Speaker 3: get out of line, take the shirt, take the hat off,
- 17:27Speaker 3: come back in, preferably put another shirt on, don't go
- 17:29Speaker 3: in topless.
- 17:30Speaker 11: Yeah, and so my my I usually take my entire firm,
- 17:34Speaker 11: like we all go down and we early vote together
- 17:36Speaker 11: as a scroll of the pole and one year I
- 17:38Speaker 11: forget it was in eighteen or twenty when we did it,
- 17:41Speaker 11: but we all walked down and somebody was wearing a
- 17:43Speaker 11: Selango loll jersey like a shirt Celingo. It wasn't like
- 17:49Speaker 11: vote for salt, it was a selangol. They made him
- 17:51Speaker 11: take it off. Yeah, which you know, I didn't eve
- 17:53Speaker 11: think about it. We walked in and Vera McCormick staff
- 17:57Speaker 11: caught it and said, nope, go turn her inside out or.
- 17:58Speaker 5: Here's a bowldoat and you're gonna get nothing by Vera. No,
- 18:01Speaker 5: you don't know.
- 18:02Speaker 11: You know, I kidder every time. I was like, this
- 18:04Speaker 11: is you know, how's your first election going?
- 18:07Speaker 12: Long?
- 18:07Speaker 3: Well, it's considered electioneering. And I've talked about this on
- 18:11Speaker 3: the show before. Mainly it's not like it's I'm obsessed
- 18:13Speaker 3: with it. It's just that's what I saw when I
- 18:15Speaker 3: worked out in the field on election day, and most
- 18:18Speaker 3: people just didn't think about it. They are passionate about
- 18:20Speaker 3: their candidates, and it tended not to be national candidates.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Of course, this is before Trump became a national brand
- 18:25Speaker 3: and you know with my maag and everything like that.
- 18:27Speaker 3: But it was usually Sheriff Ward of Education you know,
- 18:29Speaker 3: something like that. So just know, if you're going to
- 18:31Speaker 3: the polling place, you cannot have anything on your person
- 18:35Speaker 3: that says vote for a particular person or person's vote
- 18:39Speaker 3: Republican vote Democrat. You cannot just just just be easy,
- 18:42Speaker 3: just just take it easier on yourself. So, so are
- 18:46Speaker 3: you typically an election day voter or an early voter?
- 18:48Speaker 11: I typically vote early. I've always you know, I just
- 18:51Speaker 11: enjoyed that convenience. I just walked down to voters registration
- 18:55Speaker 11: and vote. Now, I think back in twenty twenty during
- 18:58Speaker 11: the governor's race in the in the general, I've voted
- 19:01Speaker 11: on the day of election because I wanted to go
- 19:02Speaker 11: with my family because typically typically I'll go vote and
- 19:05Speaker 11: terrible vote. And my oldest son back then he had
- 19:10Speaker 11: just turned eighteen, so it was his first time voting,
- 19:12Speaker 11: so I wanted to vote with him. But generally I
- 19:14Speaker 11: just do it early.
- 19:15Speaker 5: Do you remember the first election that you voted in?
- 19:17Speaker 13: I do.
- 19:19Speaker 5: Was it a presidential election?
- 19:20Speaker 12: It was?
- 19:20Speaker 11: It was in nineteen ninety two, and so you know,
- 19:24Speaker 11: I was at w and remember voting, and I honestly
- 19:30Speaker 11: don't remember who was on the it was a presidential election,
- 19:33Speaker 11: but I don't remember that would have been that would
- 19:34Speaker 11: have been Clinton. Was it Clinton in ninety two?
- 19:36Speaker 5: Yeah? Clinton and Bush.
- 19:38Speaker 11: Huh. I remember some of the candidate to not it
- 19:42Speaker 11: was well. But also that was the year that Rossparo
- 19:46Speaker 11: was also on the ballot. That's right, that's right. It
- 19:48Speaker 11: looked like a voter. I remember Rosparo. I was actually
- 19:52Speaker 11: impressed by I remember I loved the accent, the Texas accent. Yeah,
- 19:57Speaker 11: and that and that's one of the first races that
- 19:59Speaker 11: we saw that a third party candidate really caused some issue.
- 20:02Speaker 11: I don't want to say it was good or bad,
- 20:03Speaker 11: but yeah, kind of kind of threw a monkey wrench.
- 20:05Speaker 11: I forget, well, it was enough for a lot of
- 20:08Speaker 11: people think to kind of sway it and so definitely
- 20:10Speaker 11: shifted and uh. And Robert Kennedy is still on the ballot,
- 20:13Speaker 11: even though he's out there campaigning for Trump, He's still
- 20:15Speaker 11: on the ballot. Many States Commissioner I had the two
- 20:17Speaker 11: candidates vine for the third commissioner's ship, if you will,
- 20:20Speaker 11: on the show yesterday. Of course, Commissioner Kent Carper resigned.
- 20:22Speaker 11: Mark Slidnik was a point to take its place. Mark
- 20:24Speaker 11: filled in admirably but made it clear he was not
- 20:27Speaker 11: going to.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Stick around, So former Secretary of State Natalie Tenant did
- 20:31Speaker 3: run as a Democrat and former State Senator Chris Walters
- 20:34Speaker 3: as the Republican. Had both on the show yesterday and
- 20:37Speaker 3: both did a great job, and I and I was
- 20:39Speaker 3: kind of gushing over both of them, but saying, why
- 20:42Speaker 3: can't we have more races like this? I mean, now
- 20:45Speaker 3: it may all go to hell in a handbasket for
- 20:46Speaker 3: the next twelve hours, but I mean, but I mean
- 20:49Speaker 3: I even heard them off the air, and I don't
- 20:50Speaker 3: think one would mind me saying, hey, why don't you
- 20:53Speaker 3: come down to my campaign because one was having a
- 20:55Speaker 3: campaign party one place and one was that come down
- 20:58Speaker 3: to mine too.
- 20:59Speaker 5: And it was like, why can't we do this more often?
- 21:02Speaker 12: Yeah?
- 21:02Speaker 11: They're a politicans, both great people. You know Chris. Chris
- 21:06Speaker 11: actually does my commercial insurance. He writes the he's my
- 21:10Speaker 11: agent for all of my commercial policies. And you know,
- 21:13Speaker 11: I've known Chris a long time, known his wife and
- 21:16Speaker 11: his father in law and his dad. I mean, I've
- 21:18Speaker 11: known the whole family. So, you know, two very good people,
- 21:21Speaker 11: and they handled themselves well yesterday. You know Natalie, I've
- 21:24Speaker 11: known her forever as well, So it's it'll be an interesting,
- 21:28Speaker 11: interesting race. You know, Republican turn out in Kennak County
- 21:31Speaker 11: is way up. If you look at the early voting,
- 21:33Speaker 11: it's substantially higher for the on the Republican side than usual.
- 21:37Speaker 5: Now what do you attribute that to?
- 21:38Speaker 3: Why do you think the Republicans are voting earlier than
- 21:42Speaker 3: Because I saw one piece of literature that said, the
- 21:44Speaker 3: Republicans are voting earlier than the Democrats, but the Democrats
- 21:49Speaker 3: are asking for more absentee ballots, which you know, Q
- 21:52Speaker 3: the Now that's not in West Virginia, that's nationwide, so
- 21:54Speaker 3: Q the conspiracy theorist there, but on that But but
- 21:57Speaker 3: but why do you think the Republicans are or choosing
- 22:00Speaker 3: to vote earlier?
- 22:01Speaker 11: I think two reasons. Number One, Trump's on the ballot, right,
- 22:03Speaker 11: and so that that really energizes the Republican party. Secondly,
- 22:07Speaker 11: I think it's now you know, I think early on
- 22:10Speaker 11: people were cautious about early voting, particularly on the Republican side.
- 22:13Speaker 11: They didn't necessarily trust it. They want to make sure
- 22:15Speaker 11: they'll vote counted, and and so they were lagging behind
- 22:19Speaker 11: on early voting. And now if you look at the
- 22:21Speaker 11: numbers Republicans. Actually we had about thirty one thousand early
- 22:25Speaker 11: vote and Republicans out numbered Dems by about a thousand votes.
- 22:30Speaker 11: And then there were you know, five or six thousand
- 22:33Speaker 11: no party independence but I think too. Yeah, so Trump
- 22:37Speaker 11: on the ballot energized the base. And then also I
- 22:40Speaker 11: think with the now, it's just it's almost normal.
- 22:45Speaker 5: Yeah, early vote you know, become a thing. As you said,
- 22:47Speaker 5: twenty years or so. Yeah, that's what Deac and I
- 22:49Speaker 5: were talking about it. It's just and I could see
- 22:52Speaker 5: eventually it become more normalized, I think over the years.
- 22:56Speaker 11: Yeah, it has in the convenience of it. I mean,
- 22:58Speaker 11: so even if you live in elk View but you
- 23:00Speaker 11: work downtown, you can just walk down to voters. You know,
- 23:03Speaker 11: you can't do that on election day. You have to
- 23:04Speaker 11: go to your precinct. So I think a lot of
- 23:06Speaker 11: people take advantage of that convenience. And you know, honestly,
- 23:09Speaker 11: Peer mccormicky does a great job, just a great job
- 23:13Speaker 11: with that and the way that's handled. And she's always
- 23:16Speaker 11: watching to make sure that there are enough machines for
- 23:18Speaker 11: early voting in the various early voting places so that
- 23:22Speaker 11: nobody stands in line. We upgraded the equipment this year,
- 23:25Speaker 11: so it goes much more smoothly. You didn't see a
- 23:29Speaker 11: lot of people waiting, you know. When I went down,
- 23:32Speaker 11: I took I took eighteen people to the poll with
- 23:35Speaker 11: me my office and when we got there, we were
- 23:39Speaker 11: down on we're actually out on Courier Street, and all
- 23:42Speaker 11: eighteen of us got through in like twenty minutes, which
- 23:46Speaker 11: is pretty good. You know, so very runs a very
- 23:48Speaker 11: efficient office.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Indeed, talking to Kadak count Chemistry, Ben Salangova, Dave Island
- 23:51Speaker 3: showing five Adeline brought to you in part by Bridge Valley.

- 24:06Speaker 3: Bridge Valley dot edu slash apprenticeships today. Now I mentioned
- 24:10Speaker 3: the race between Chris Walters and Natalie Tenant, you will
- 24:12Speaker 3: one way or the other, you'll have a new County
- 24:14Speaker 3: Commissioner after the first of the year, I guess right,
- 24:17Speaker 3: that's when we be sworn in and among the topics
- 24:20Speaker 3: that they and all the other two you and mister
- 24:22Speaker 3: Wheeler will be looking at is the judicial annex.
- 24:25Speaker 5: So where are we what's the latest on the judicial annex?
- 24:27Speaker 11: You know, I was this is something we have to do.
- 24:30Speaker 11: And there were significant security upgrades that we made in
- 24:34Speaker 11: the renovation. You know, that legislature added three magistrates and
- 24:38Speaker 11: a circuit judge. Of course that circuit judge is gonna
- 24:41Speaker 11: be Rich Lindsay look forward to you know, working with him,
- 24:44Speaker 11: and so we had to remodel. We were just confined
- 24:47Speaker 11: on the amount of space. So what we did was
- 24:49Speaker 11: we hired an architect. We gave them a budget of
- 24:52Speaker 11: between ten and twelve million dollars. I was hoping it
- 24:54Speaker 11: would be closer to ten and unfortunately, the cost of
- 24:59Speaker 11: everything is just aha, I mean, particularly construction. This project
- 25:03Speaker 11: was very unique because of its location, because of the
- 25:06Speaker 11: hours that we were going to have to do the
- 25:09Speaker 11: construction at night. That was going to drive the cost up.
- 25:12Speaker 11: And you know, when when the bids were unsealed, the
- 25:15Speaker 11: lowest bidder was sixteen point two million. So at that
- 25:18Speaker 11: point we had a couple options. We could reject it
- 25:20Speaker 11: and start over. That would delay the project probably six
- 25:23Speaker 11: months to a year.
- 25:25Speaker 5: We could.
- 25:26Speaker 11: We had a certain amount of time where we can
- 25:28Speaker 11: negotiate with the lowest bidder to try to reduce the price.
- 25:31Speaker 11: But you can't at that point reduce this. You can't
- 25:34Speaker 11: change the scope of the project. Legally, you're not allowed
- 25:37Speaker 11: to say, well, we're just gonna you know, throw a
- 25:40Speaker 11: trailer out back. That would change that would change the
- 25:42Speaker 11: scal Although it would be cool if you did, I
- 25:44Speaker 11: don't think the magistrates or the due judge would like that.
- 25:47Speaker 11: And and the third option would be to award the
- 25:50Speaker 11: project and then you can change things afterwards. So that's
- 25:54Speaker 11: the route that we did. And I want to I
- 25:57Speaker 11: want to preface this by saying, you know, our architect
- 25:59Speaker 11: the art did a great job. They incorporated the design
- 26:02Speaker 11: that we wanted. The price was just higher than anyone,
- 26:05Speaker 11: including them anticipated. Now Chief Judge Mayor clear Aker sent
- 26:09Speaker 11: us a letter saying, hey, I know part of the
- 26:11Speaker 11: reason why this is high is because you're going to
- 26:14Speaker 11: be working at night. She talked to the judges and said,
- 26:17Speaker 11: you know what, to save money, work during the day
- 26:20Speaker 11: and we'll just kind of deal with it for the
- 26:22Speaker 11: next year, which was very kind of her and the
- 26:24Speaker 11: other judges, which we appreciate.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Se you're anouncing no, that wasn't a gavel, that was
- 26:29Speaker 3: a hammer. That was you just ended a murder trial,
- 26:32Speaker 3: and you.
- 26:32Speaker 11: Know, so we're going to try to you know, not
- 26:35Speaker 11: cause much disruption over there, but you know, it's got
- 26:38Speaker 11: to happen. But we appreciate her letter and all the
- 26:41Speaker 11: judges that are doing that. But we're going to come in.
- 26:43Speaker 11: We'll probably change that, maybe work a little during the day,
- 26:47Speaker 11: probably still the majority of the work at night, but
- 26:49Speaker 11: we want to save some money. There are other things
- 26:50Speaker 11: that we're going to do. So my goal is to
- 26:53Speaker 11: get this thing down within close to the budget.
- 26:57Speaker 12: You know.
- 26:57Speaker 11: And I tell people this, and I say that seriously.
- 27:00Speaker 11: If you would if you were doing a project at
- 27:02Speaker 11: your house, or imagine doing a project at your business
- 27:05Speaker 11: and you come in twenty five percent over budget, I mean,
- 27:08Speaker 11: you're not just gonna say, Okay, you're gonna you're either
- 27:11Speaker 11: gonna start over. You're gonna find a way to reduce
- 27:13Speaker 11: the scope of the project. So that's what we're gonna do.
- 27:16Speaker 11: I mean, I wouldn't do it with my money. I'm
- 27:18Speaker 11: not gonna do it with the people's money, you know.
- 27:19Speaker 11: I'm not going to go twenty five percent over budget
- 27:21Speaker 11: on any project at my house or in my business,
- 27:24Speaker 11: So I'm not going to do it.
- 27:25Speaker 5: So what do we stand right now, Commission? What do
- 27:27Speaker 5: we send right now?
- 27:28Speaker 11: I think we'll be able to reduce the cost of
- 27:30Speaker 11: the project. I think there might be some other money
- 27:33Speaker 11: that we can get in to help with the project,
- 27:35Speaker 11: and I think we will come close, if not under budget.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Talking to knag Antic commission Ben Silango, Texays, Dave, can
- 27:42Speaker 3: you ask Commissioner Silango if he got his trout from
- 27:45Speaker 3: Pink Creek yet? Also, in all seriousness, how's the clean
- 27:48Speaker 3: up situation there going?
- 27:50Speaker 11: I think that's going very well. I have not First
- 27:52Speaker 11: of all, I don't fly fish. I don't have the
- 27:54Speaker 11: patience or the talent to fly fish. But I did
- 27:57Speaker 11: it many many years ago. I caught one trout and
- 28:00Speaker 11: that's it. I've got one trut. But I wouldn't mind
- 28:03Speaker 11: going down there fishing. I think it's coming along. I
- 28:05Speaker 11: think we've you know, we had the folks, some of
- 28:07Speaker 11: the folks from Paint Creek end the other day in
- 28:09Speaker 11: the commission meeting. We've set aside money from that settlement,
- 28:13Speaker 11: you know, the trucking collision that the truck accident that
- 28:16Speaker 11: caused the spill. All that money has been earmarked and
- 28:19Speaker 11: set aside for that community and particularly that watershed. So
- 28:24Speaker 11: you know, we've done some things to help in that area.
- 28:27Speaker 11: And maybe in the spring I will go down their fish.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Anything with the Capital Sports Complex dubdate, because that was
- 28:34Speaker 3: part of the conversation I had with Chris Walters and
- 28:37Speaker 3: Natalie Tennant on the show yesterday.
- 28:39Speaker 5: Anything that you could update.
- 28:41Speaker 11: Yeah, and I think I think both their comments were good.
- 28:43Speaker 11: I know both of them are in favor of it.
- 28:45Speaker 11: Chris was a little reserved about, you know, how we're
- 28:47Speaker 11: going to pay the bills. You know, we've we've looked
- 28:51Speaker 11: at that. It's we're not taking out a forty million
- 28:53Speaker 11: dollar loan or forty million dollars bond. We have received
- 28:58Speaker 11: some federal assistance of the tune of about nine million dollars. Obviously,
- 29:02Speaker 11: with the pool not in the project right now, that
- 29:05Speaker 11: reduces the cost of the project, so it's not it's
- 29:08Speaker 11: no longer eighty million, it's going to be lower than that.
- 29:11Speaker 5: Uh.
- 29:12Speaker 11: And then we've got some other things that we're doing
- 29:14Speaker 11: as far as branding different funds.
- 29:16Speaker 5: It's probably gonna have a name, right, It's going to
- 29:18Speaker 5: be the SO and so.
- 29:19Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, I mean I don't want you to
- 29:20Speaker 3: reveal it, but is it a fairly fairly likely that
- 29:24Speaker 3: it's going to be called the the Dave Allen Sports
- 29:28Speaker 3: Center or something like that, I mean Dave On Enterprises
- 29:31Speaker 3: or something like that.
- 29:31Speaker 11: I think it's gonna it's gonna be very similar to
- 29:33Speaker 11: the Shawnee Sports Complex. We're gonna have a name, but
- 29:35Speaker 11: then it will also be there'll be a corporate brand
- 29:39Speaker 11: on it as well. We've had a lot of interest
- 29:42Speaker 11: in that. So that's one way to save money. You know,
- 29:45Speaker 11: you've got to look at two things. You've got the
- 29:46Speaker 11: construction calls, which are significant, and then you've got operating costs.
- 29:50Speaker 11: The operating costs, we believe the facility will pay for itself,
- 29:55Speaker 11: if not turn a small profit, not necessarily year one,
- 29:58Speaker 11: but year two, year three, year, for I think it will.
- 30:01Speaker 11: The operating costs will it will sustain itself. The construction
- 30:05Speaker 11: costs is different matter. I mean, you just got to
- 30:07Speaker 11: put that money up. Now. How much we eventually bond
- 30:10Speaker 11: will depend upon how much additional federal assistance we get,
- 30:13Speaker 11: whether or not we get to any state assistance, but
- 30:16Speaker 11: it's definitely not gonna be forty million dollars, and Chris
- 30:18Speaker 11: is correct, we can't. We could not afford a forty
- 30:21Speaker 11: million dollar note, nor would I ever try. But the
- 30:25Speaker 11: one thing that kind of complicated matters at least on
- 30:28Speaker 11: the county side, and the city's ready to go, they've
- 30:29Speaker 11: got their sales tax and everything, they're ready to go
- 30:32Speaker 11: is the judicial anects. You know, we were not expecting
- 30:34Speaker 11: that sixteen million dollars hit, if you will. That was
- 30:40Speaker 11: not our in our plan, and so we're we're kind
- 30:43Speaker 11: of taking a step back and looking at what can
- 30:46Speaker 11: we do on both projects to make sure that we
- 30:48Speaker 11: don't that we're fiscally responsible.
- 30:51Speaker 3: It's amazing how they all kind of tie together. You know,
- 30:53Speaker 3: when a new time I have you on, we're talking
- 30:55Speaker 3: about now you know, ninety percent of the conversation we
- 30:58Speaker 3: have is about the judicial annects here as of l
- 31:00Speaker 3: and the Capital Sports Complex. But it all ties together
- 31:02Speaker 3: because it's all it's all money. Yeah, So in this race,
- 31:05Speaker 3: I'm not asking you for a prediction or anything like that,
- 31:07Speaker 3: but you have gone on record on this show in
- 31:10Speaker 3: other places, then we'll let you go that that that
- 31:13Speaker 3: we have two good candidates, in your opinion, running running
- 31:16Speaker 3: for county commission and whoever, I think it's going to
- 31:18Speaker 3: be a tight race tonight between Chris Walter's Natalie Tenant
- 31:21Speaker 3: that you're looking forward to working with with either.
- 31:23Speaker 11: Of them, yeah, I mean I've known them both for
- 31:25Speaker 11: a long time, have a tremendous amount of respect for
- 31:28Speaker 11: them both. I think Natalie has great name recognition. I
- 31:32Speaker 11: mean she's been out there a lot, you know, dating
- 31:33Speaker 11: back to when she was the first female mountaineer, So
- 31:36Speaker 11: I think she's got great name recognition. I think Chris
- 31:39Speaker 11: has ran a great campaign, He's been all over the place,
- 31:44Speaker 11: so that I think it really will come down to
- 31:46Speaker 11: that has Chris's work has he done enough to surpass
- 31:51Speaker 11: Natalie's name? And let's not forget Natalie's working hard too.
- 31:54Speaker 11: I mean she's everywhere. You can't find a being dinner
- 31:56Speaker 11: that she hasn't gone to it, and I mean she's everywhere.
- 31:59Speaker 11: So I think that really is what it comes down to.
- 32:02Speaker 11: What will the increased Republican turnout due to the race,
- 32:05Speaker 11: and how will that off set Natalie's you know, incredible
- 32:09Speaker 11: name recognition.
- 32:10Speaker 5: Should have you on to do because it'll be Danny
- 32:12Speaker 5: Jones and myself doing the analysis tonight on the local races.
- 32:14Speaker 3: Should have had you on to talk about the better
- 32:16Speaker 3: Probably a little too sticky for you to be involved. No, actually,
- 32:18Speaker 3: I'm going to be on. I'll be with Kenny Bast
- 32:20Speaker 3: tonight on WCCHS live coverage.
- 32:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 32:22Speaker 11: Really, you didn't invite me. I would have come. I'll
- 32:26Speaker 11: swing back here with you and Danny first and then
- 32:27Speaker 11: run over to Kenny.
- 32:28Speaker 12: There you go.
- 32:28Speaker 3: Well, there's always a chance with Danny that there could
- 32:30Speaker 3: be barbecue, so keep that in mind.
- 32:32Speaker 11: If there's barbecue, I will cancel on Kenny and come
- 32:35Speaker 11: over with you.
- 32:35Speaker 3: Remember I am from southern West Virginia. We'll get you
- 32:38Speaker 3: out to the polls one way or sorry, Mac Warner
- 32:40Speaker 3: if you're listening to that. All right, Ben, I appreciate

- 32:57Speaker 11: Huston has the best banana peppers for the pizza. Oh okay, yeah,
- 33:01Speaker 11: so I always just get a cheese pizza with banana peppers,
- 33:04Speaker 11: all right, maybe some sausage, but yeah, they've got great

- 36:12Speaker 3: a federal election, be a federal holiday? Some say no,
- 36:17Speaker 3: others say yes. One who definitely thinks it should be
- 36:19Speaker 3: a federal holiday is a gentleman by the name of
- 36:21Speaker 3: Ethan Watson. He's a writer who also studies political science.
- 36:23Speaker 3: There's several other things in his life. He is part
- 36:26Speaker 3: of the Young Voices group and he joined us right now. Ethan,
- 36:28Speaker 3: good morning, Welcome to the show.
- 36:31Speaker 13: Thanks so much for having me on.
- 36:32Speaker 3: Why should in your opinion, election day be a federal holiday?
- 36:36Speaker 13: Sir? I think there's a couple of reasons why making
- 36:39Speaker 13: election day is federal holiday would be a good idea.
- 36:42Speaker 13: The first one, which is the one you'll hear guys
- 36:44Speaker 13: like Bovek and Elon out there pushing, is that no
- 36:47Speaker 13: one has any faith in our elections anymore. Everyone on
- 36:50Speaker 13: either side thinks it's rigged, the other sides trying to cheat,
- 36:52Speaker 13: and so therefore the system needs to change and move
- 36:54Speaker 13: towards an in person voting model where we reduce the
- 36:57Speaker 13: streams by which votes are coming in, reduce the streams
- 37:01Speaker 13: of voting coming in by mail or abs, and see ballots.
- 37:04Speaker 13: And that's a really good case because, regardless of whether
- 37:07Speaker 13: it's warranted or not, the perception is there that our
- 37:09Speaker 13: elections are not secure. So that tells me the system
- 37:12Speaker 13: needs to change. But I think what these guys are
- 37:14Speaker 13: missing is there's a deeper reason why it's good for
- 37:16Speaker 13: us to all go in person and vote as much
- 37:19Speaker 13: as possible, and that is it's good for people to
- 37:22Speaker 13: engage in displays of public civic virtue. Right, we need
- 37:26Speaker 13: to go out as a community together and actually engage
- 37:29Speaker 13: with our democracy as a reminder to us that this
- 37:31Speaker 13: is a really exceptional right. The vast majority of human
- 37:34Speaker 13: beings that have ever lived have lived under tyranny and
- 37:36Speaker 13: coercion and not consent. And so going out and just
- 37:40Speaker 13: like how we build monuments and museums and statues, holidays
- 37:44Speaker 13: and events are another way that we commemorate the greatness
- 37:46Speaker 13: of our civilization, and that's why I think it would
- 37:48Speaker 13: be good for us to have in person voting become
- 37:51Speaker 13: the norm.
- 37:51Speaker 3: Again, have you found there's a lot of support for
- 37:55Speaker 3: this ethan? I mean and talking to different people. I
- 37:57Speaker 3: know that you go all over the country. Have you
- 37:58Speaker 3: talked to different people about this?
- 38:00Speaker 13: They say, well, you know, most people that I've talked
- 38:03Speaker 13: to seem to agree with this idea. Obviously, there's some caveats, right,
- 38:07Speaker 13: So for example, not everyone gets federal holidays off. Not
- 38:10Speaker 13: everyone can vote in person in their home state. A
- 38:14Speaker 13: lot of college students are out of state, for example,
- 38:16Speaker 13: service members overseas, So there obviously has to be exceptions
- 38:18Speaker 13: and logistics to work out. But I think the core
- 38:20Speaker 13: idea that it's good for people to get back at
- 38:23Speaker 13: and engage with our democracy in person is fairly popular,
- 38:26Speaker 13: at least among people like myself who tend to be
- 38:29Speaker 13: a little bit more conservative in our beliefs.
- 38:31Speaker 3: And you also, in talking to you back and forth
- 38:34Speaker 3: we were texting last night, and you're a younger person,
- 38:38Speaker 3: do you find that there's differences between younger and older
- 38:41Speaker 3: people in this belief that elections should be that federal
- 38:43Speaker 3: election should be a national holiday.
- 38:45Speaker 5: Does that skew along age lines in your opinion?
- 38:49Speaker 2: Yes?
- 38:49Speaker 13: Absolutely. Unfortunately, my generation is like very adamized something happened
- 38:54Speaker 13: to us during COVID, where now we value convenience above
- 38:56Speaker 13: almost everything else, and so we like to do everything
- 38:59Speaker 13: remote to go to class remotely, work remotely, vote remotely.
- 39:03Speaker 13: And it's really frustrating because you know, my generation is
- 39:06Speaker 13: also depressed at exceedingly high rates. Right We're not happy,
- 39:09Speaker 13: we're not doing well, we're not getting married, we're not
- 39:12Speaker 13: engaging with our communities like we used to. And I
- 39:13Speaker 13: think it's because we have just come to value convenience
- 39:16Speaker 13: over all else and I think we need we need
- 39:19Speaker 13: someone to push us to get back out into our community.
- 39:21Speaker 13: And you know, maybe for once, the federal government could
- 39:23Speaker 13: set a good precedent and make that happen by by
- 39:26Speaker 13: setting election day as a federal holiday.
- 39:28Speaker 3: What do you think the chances of this becoming a thing?
- 39:31Speaker 3: And is there an actually I know that you speak
- 39:32Speaker 3: about it, you write about it, ethan, but is there
- 39:35Speaker 3: actually an organized effort somewhere to make this happen that
- 39:38Speaker 3: federal ections would be a federal holiday.
- 39:41Speaker 13: Well as far as an organized effort goes I'm not
- 39:43Speaker 13: too sure. I might be the organizer here, the low organizer,
- 39:47Speaker 13: but but you know, I think I think there's probably
- 39:51Speaker 13: a pretty low chance that this happens, at least on
- 39:53Speaker 13: a federal level, just because I think I think people
- 39:56Speaker 13: have come to view anything to do with elections is
- 39:58Speaker 13: such a part as an issue. I mean, something that
- 40:00Speaker 13: seems as obvious to you and me as you should
- 40:02Speaker 13: present a valid idea when you go to vote, is
- 40:04Speaker 13: somehow become a controversy, and for reasons that I'm as
- 40:09Speaker 13: yet unclear on as to why anyone would want people
- 40:11Speaker 13: who can present an idea to vote. So I think
- 40:14Speaker 13: it's unlikely. But I really wrote this article just to
- 40:16Speaker 13: bring attention to the fact that something does need to
- 40:18Speaker 13: change for us to have faith in our elections, and
- 40:20Speaker 13: also to remind everyone that, hey, a little bit of
- 40:23Speaker 13: civic virtue is a good thing. It's good for us.
- 40:25Speaker 13: Just like we go out on fourth of July and
- 40:26Speaker 13: celebrate how good our country is, another day to do
- 40:29Speaker 13: that is something that I would absolutely be behind.
- 40:31Speaker 5: Is there a place where people can read this article
- 40:33Speaker 5: that you're referencing or any of your other stuff.
- 40:36Speaker 13: Certainly, Yeah, So I've got a couple of articles out
- 40:38Speaker 13: on Real Clear Politics. I've got one on Free the People.
- 40:41Speaker 13: But if you want to connect with me on social media,
- 40:44Speaker 13: you can find me on ex at E. R. Watson thirteen.
- 40:46Speaker 13: That's where I retweet all my articles, and also on
- 40:48Speaker 13: the Young Voices program website. All of my hits are
- 40:51Speaker 13: published there as well.
- 40:53Speaker 3: All right, Ethan, It's an interesting concept and it's already
- 40:56Speaker 3: listened to a couple of texts, so you'll have to
- 40:58Speaker 3: either listen on the app or go back and listen
- 40:59Speaker 3: to it when we post the podcast version of this later.
- 41:02Speaker 3: I appreciate you being here, man, thanks a lot.
- 41:05Speaker 13: Thank you so much for the opportunity. You really appreciate it.
- 41:07Speaker 3: All right, Ethan Watson Again on the question is should
- 41:10Speaker 3: elections be a federal holiday? A couple of texts here
- 41:12Speaker 3: text says what's the deal with elections a federal holiday?
- 41:15Speaker 3: Who's getting the day off? Are we going to shut
- 41:17Speaker 3: down Walmart, grocery stores and hospitals for the day or
- 41:20Speaker 3: it will be a holiday for government workers, bankers, lawyers
- 41:23Speaker 3: and know the jobs that recognize as federal holidays. Twelve
- 41:26Speaker 3: days of early voting and one day of election day
- 41:28Speaker 3: is plenty of opportunities to vote, says a Texter. Text
- 41:33Speaker 3: says day, what difference does it make if it's a
- 41:34Speaker 3: holiday or not. Unless you work for the government, most
- 41:37Speaker 3: employees do not close for holidays anyway. Texter says that
- 41:42Speaker 3: Kreuton believes election Day should be a holiday, but he's
- 41:44Speaker 3: just too comfortable on the couch to go vote. And
- 41:47Speaker 3: if you're wondering who the heck is Crewton, well, if
- 41:49Speaker 3: you listen to our Friday show, we try to get
- 41:50Speaker 3: a dog adopted from the Kenaw Charles New Main Association
- 41:53Speaker 3: every year, and Creuton's kind of been our big, our
- 41:56Speaker 3: big success that Hannah Gardner and I had. And from
- 41:58Speaker 3: time to time I got to know the chef family
- 42:00Speaker 3: that adopted Crewton and they send me pictures from time
- 42:03Speaker 3: to time. So they sent me a picture that you
- 42:05Speaker 3: can't see of Crewton enjoying his day off today, laying.
- 42:11Speaker 5: Lying on the couch. Although, to be honest with the dog,
- 42:13Speaker 5: I don't know if tomorrow is going to be any
- 42:15Speaker 5: different either, tex says Dave Westerrogia.
- 42:17Speaker 3: Voters have common sense and we'll elect President Trump with
- 42:20Speaker 3: a seventy two percent margin, says a texture. All right,
- 42:24Speaker 3: we're gonna take a break. We're going to take a
- 42:26Speaker 3: quick break from politics to talk about a big event
- 42:29Speaker 3: that's happening here in the Canall Valley, Charleston, specifically on
- 42:31Speaker 3: Thursday night. We're back after this. I'm the Voice of
- 42:34Speaker 3: Charleston WCCHS.

- 44:23Speaker 16: divide our community and keep black voltes from the ballot box.
- 44:25Speaker 16: And they're working overtime to spread lives that alternative facts

- 45:27Speaker 3: in a big event that's happening Thursday night. It's kind
- 45:30Speaker 3: of a fashion show.
- 45:31Speaker 5: How cool is that? In just a moment, I'm gonna
- 45:33Speaker 5: get something. I'm gonna throw this out there. It is
- 45:35Speaker 5: election day across West Virginia. Polls open six thirty this morning.
- 45:38Speaker 5: They closed at seven thirty tonight.
- 45:40Speaker 3: We'll have complete coverage locally and via the Metro News
- 45:43Speaker 3: Radio network and ABC News starting tonight at seven oh six.
- 45:45Speaker 3: Danny Jones and I will handle things on a local level.
- 45:48Speaker 3: Hoppy Brad, Jeff, Chris Morgan, Kat Aaron, Dave Wilson, Kyle Wigs,
- 45:52Speaker 3: et cetera, et cetera handling all the rest. We have
- 45:54Speaker 3: reporters stationed in all fifty five courthouses across West Virginia.
- 45:57Speaker 3: You can follow us on air and online WVS and
- 46:00Speaker 3: Metro News Television. And let me just say this about
- 46:03Speaker 3: the election. This is a daviatorial by the way, we
- 46:06Speaker 3: will elect mayors, commissioners, legislators and other offices. Of course,
- 46:10Speaker 3: as we always do, we all know we're going to
- 46:12Speaker 3: have at least one new congressman from West Virginia. We'll
- 46:15Speaker 3: have a new US Senator, a new governor, Secretary of State,
- 46:18Speaker 3: state auditor, attorney general. But at the end of the
- 46:21Speaker 3: night and over the next couple of days, everyone's going
- 46:23Speaker 3: to be watching the presidential race between Harris and Trump.
- 46:26Speaker 5: And depending on.
- 46:27Speaker 3: Which side you fall on, one side says, if the
- 46:29Speaker 3: other side wins, we're doomed as a nation. Let's keep
- 46:34Speaker 3: something in mind here. Our forefathers were a heck lots
- 46:37Speaker 3: smarter than the people running for office of the presidency,
- 46:40Speaker 3: and probably smarter than all of us. They put in
- 46:42Speaker 3: a system of checks and balances, So no matter who
- 46:45Speaker 3: wins the White House, he or she not even going
- 46:48Speaker 3: to accomplish even half of what they said they will
- 46:50Speaker 3: do along the campaign trail. In fact, you're more likely
- 46:53Speaker 3: to see get nothing done because of gridlock in Washington
- 46:56Speaker 3: over the next four years. This old girl that we
- 47:00Speaker 3: call a country has been around for two hundred and
- 47:02Speaker 3: forty eight years. She has survived wars, Civil War, Pearl Harbor,
- 47:06Speaker 3: nine to eleven, floods, natural disasters of all kinds. The
- 47:08Speaker 3: Kardashians we no comments out of you Tube. We we'll
- 47:13Speaker 3: get through this if we all keep our collective heads.
- 47:16Speaker 3: Let's remember we're probably not going to know tonight, maybe
- 47:19Speaker 3: even tomorrow night, who the next president is gonna be it.
- 47:23Speaker 3: And either way, half the country is gonna be upset,
- 47:25Speaker 3: and some were gonna say it was rigged one way
- 47:27Speaker 3: or the other.
- 47:28Speaker 5: And just relax. It's not going to be at the
- 47:30Speaker 5: end of the country as we know it.
- 47:33Speaker 3: If either Harris or Trump is elected, we'll be fine.
- 47:36Speaker 3: Personal note here, I've made my feelings on Donald Trump known.
- 47:39Speaker 3: I'm no Kamala Harris fan either, But like it or not,
- 47:41Speaker 3: one of these people is going to be called president
- 47:44Speaker 3: come January, and that person, Trump or Harris will be
- 47:47Speaker 3: my president. God bless all God bless the USA. But

- 48:03Speaker 3: for a moment to tell you about an event that's
- 48:04Speaker 3: happening Thursday night at Astrogatta in Charleston. It's called the
- 48:07Speaker 3: Chill Coutur fashion Show and it's a fundraiser for Children's
- 48:10Speaker 3: Theater Charleston. Lisa White a Morgan Deal, Morgan Megan Deal.
- 48:13Speaker 3: I've only known you for twenty years. On the why
- 48:15Speaker 3: I said, Morgan Megan Deal here to talk about ladies.
- 48:18Speaker 3: Good morning, welcome to the show.
- 48:20Speaker 14: Good more morning.
- 48:20Speaker 4: Thanks for having me.
- 48:21Speaker 3: And anything that gets me off politics just for a
- 48:23Speaker 3: moment is a good thing. I guess so much better.
- 48:26Speaker 3: So talk about what's going on over there? What exactly
- 48:29Speaker 3: is this? Lisa Morgan Megan.
- 48:33Speaker 14: My alter ego.
- 48:34Speaker 17: So this is a super exciting event Thursday night at Astrogatto.
- 48:37Speaker 17: This was actually Lisa's baby, So I'm not even going
- 48:39Speaker 17: to try to even pretend like I came up with
- 48:41Speaker 17: this with this idea.
- 48:42Speaker 14: Lisa came to the Children's Theater board with this idea.
- 48:45Speaker 17: We wanted to do something that was completely off the
- 48:48Speaker 17: regular fundraiser that we've seen throughout Charleston and a fashion show.
- 48:51Speaker 14: We all jumped to the chance.
- 48:53Speaker 17: We have so many great local boutiques and so Thursday
- 48:56Speaker 17: night at Astrogatto, we are going to have the Chill
- 48:58Speaker 17: Couture Fashion Show benefit the Children's Theater of Charleston, So
- 49:02Speaker 17: very exciting.
- 49:03Speaker 5: All right, Lisa, what do you want to add to that?
- 49:04Speaker 4: Yeah, the show's Thursday. The doors will open at six
- 49:07Speaker 4: o'clock at storg Auto. The retailers, the local retailers that
- 49:11Speaker 4: are participating, are going to be showing holiday fashion. So
- 49:16Speaker 4: if you are looking to get ready for your holiday parties,
- 49:20Speaker 4: you'll want to come and see what the latest trends are.
- 49:23Speaker 5: So this is an actual fashion show, how I mean,
- 49:25Speaker 5: what's the what's the format, what's it going to look like? People?
- 49:27Speaker 17: This is a fashion show, but with an elevated twist.
- 49:30Speaker 17: So this was another great idea that came from the
- 49:33Speaker 17: planning committee is that we're actually going to have a
- 49:36Speaker 17: live auction after the fashion show with different great prize packages.
- 49:39Speaker 17: We have Charleston has shown up this year and well
- 49:42Speaker 17: Charleston and beyond for this. For this event, we have
- 49:46Speaker 17: so many end condonations, whether it's a stay at the
- 49:49Speaker 17: Charleston Marriott, whether it's tickets to a great show at
- 49:52Speaker 17: the Clay Center, an amazing SPA package that Lisa was
- 49:56Speaker 17: able to track down, a pet package, I mean, pretty
- 50:00Speaker 17: much something for everything. So after the fashion is done,
- 50:03Speaker 17: then we're going to get into an old fashioned bidding
- 50:05Speaker 17: and Lisa, do you want to tell.
- 50:07Speaker 4: Yeah, we also have several nice vacation homes on the
- 50:12Speaker 4: on the list, we have a home at the Greenbrier
- 50:15Speaker 4: Sporting Club along.
- 50:17Speaker 5: With a v an actual home. Yes or night.
- 50:20Speaker 4: Well, it's like three nights three nights there. Yeah, yeah,
- 50:23Speaker 4: you can go ahead and buy home. We would that
- 50:26Speaker 4: would be like a major, major bush for the Bush
- 50:30Speaker 4: for the CTOC. But we have a vacation home also
- 50:34Speaker 4: at Deep Creek Lake. And what we have decided to
- 50:37Speaker 4: do to auction off these packages, it's going to be
- 50:40Speaker 4: a live auction with Jimmy Strawn who will be our
- 50:42Speaker 4: MC for the night, and we are going to do
- 50:46Speaker 4: theater skits for each package.
- 50:48Speaker 14: So it's going to be very entertaining.
- 50:50Speaker 5: Talk about Children's Theater of Charleston, talk about this this group.
- 50:54Speaker 17: So, the Children's Theater of Charleston is an amazing, amazing
- 50:57Speaker 17: organization based here. The name is not exactly accurate because
- 51:01Speaker 17: children from all over West Virginia participate in the children
- 51:05Speaker 17: absolutely based in Charleston, the largest children's theater in the
- 51:09Speaker 17: state of West Virginia, and it is something that is
- 51:11Speaker 17: one percent and I want to I want to definitely
- 51:15Speaker 17: hone in on this free for children.
- 51:17Speaker 14: There is no cost to the parents, there's no cost
- 51:19Speaker 14: to the children.
- 51:20Speaker 17: They can come, they can participate in professionally produced theater shows.
- 51:25Speaker 17: So right now, our show coming up the third week
- 51:28Speaker 17: ind of December is Frozen Junior. Mine and Lisa's daughters
- 51:31Speaker 17: are both featured in the show. But we are passionate
- 51:34Speaker 17: about this because we have two daughters that are into theater.
- 51:37Speaker 14: And it's undoubtedly a lot of times.
- 51:39Speaker 17: The arts takes the backseat to organize sports, and it's
- 51:43Speaker 17: it's nationwide. It's no fault to anyone around here. So
- 51:46Speaker 17: the children's theater is just one of those things that
- 51:48Speaker 17: truly untaps into that creative mindset that some of these
- 51:54Speaker 17: kids struggle to really express. So this fundraiser will help
- 51:59Speaker 17: make that more.
- 52:00Speaker 3: And I've got information posted on my social media on
- 52:02Speaker 3: Dave Onland Radio. You can check that out on Facebook,
- 52:05Speaker 3: time and place. Again, as we wrap up the show, ladies.
- 52:07Speaker 4: Ask Torgado out at South Ridge. The doors open at
- 52:10Speaker 4: six o'clock and get your tickets. And we also have
- 52:15Speaker 4: a Facebook page Children for your so you can get
- 52:19Speaker 4: the link there.
- 52:20Speaker 5: All right, Megan, Lisa, I appreciate you being here and
- 52:22Speaker 5: giving me a break from politics at least for like
- 52:23Speaker 5: four or five minutes. Thanks a lot, Thank you so
- 52:25Speaker 5: much for all right, speaking of politics, our coverage will
- 52:28Speaker 5: begin tonight live after ABC News at seven o'clock, Myself
- 52:31Speaker 5: and Danny Jones handling all the local stuff, Hoppy and
- 52:34Speaker 5: the entire crew in Morgantown, Chris Lawrence, everybody involved in this,
- 52:37Speaker 5: plus ABC News as well, back tomorrow to review it all.
- 52:41Speaker 5: Anthony Harmon the A Train, our producer. Thank you so much.
