- 1:07Speaker 2: Maddie Beniers in a place where he grew up watched
- 1:09Speaker 2: a lot of hockey. One on one we have with
- 1:12Speaker 2: Matty Beniirs. Also our conversation with Evera fitzhou coming up
- 1:15Speaker 2: in just a bit to get you ready here for
- 1:17Speaker 2: this evening's game. It will be the only trip here
- 1:20Speaker 2: into Boston for the Kraken for this regular season right
- 1:24Speaker 2: now and one on this five game trip and looking
- 1:27Speaker 2: to finish off a running at the table in two
- 1:30Speaker 2: games over the Bruins, winning the first matchup seven to
- 1:34Speaker 2: four earlier this month back at Climate Pledge Arena. As
- 1:39Speaker 2: far as this evening, a couple of players who go
- 1:42Speaker 2: way back in this area include Joey Decord and Matty Beaniers.
- 1:45Speaker 2: In it was Beneirs who watched a lot of hockey
- 1:47Speaker 2: here for a Bruins team that made great runs won
- 1:51Speaker 2: a Stanley Cup also back in twenty ten, and a
- 1:54Speaker 2: big piece of that was is Dan O'Hara is number
- 1:57Speaker 2: going to by the way, go up into the Raptors
- 1:59Speaker 2: this evening at ten Garden and we caught up with
- 2:01Speaker 2: Mattie Biniers earlier today at optional skates at TD Garden
- 2:05Speaker 2: to speak more about Sharrat in the game this evening, Matty,
- 2:08Speaker 2: I know that you've had a few spins already back
- 2:10Speaker 2: in this building here on the NHL side, but still
- 2:12Speaker 2: getting back here once a year. How special is this
- 2:14Speaker 2: kind of trip for ye?
- 2:15Speaker 3: Yeah, it's awesome.
- 2:16Speaker 4: You grew up watching a team, You grew up kind
- 2:17Speaker 4: of idolizing the guys in the team. Obviously, you know,
- 2:20Speaker 4: you got charge Trasey retirement tonight, you know, pretty cool stuff.
- 2:24Speaker 4: And obviously I get to come home and you know,
- 2:27Speaker 4: be with friends and family and they get to watch
- 2:29Speaker 4: me play.
- 2:29Speaker 3: So it's a lot of fun.
- 2:30Speaker 2: When you go back and remember the kind of players
- 2:33Speaker 2: and games that inspired you as a player. How special
- 2:36Speaker 2: is it to be here for a guy like Shara
- 2:38Speaker 2: on a night like this?
- 2:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's it's awesome. I watched growing up
- 2:42Speaker 4: my whole life. You know, he was our he was
- 2:44Speaker 4: you know, Boston's captain, you know him Bergeron, you know
- 2:49Speaker 4: marsh and all those guys. You know, you grew up
- 2:51Speaker 4: watching them and they're your favorite guys. And now you're
- 2:54Speaker 4: you know, playing against Marshie. You got to play against
- 2:57Speaker 4: Bridge on a little bit and you know, now I
- 2:59Speaker 4: get to watch that your retirement. It's all really really cool,
- 3:02Speaker 4: pretty full circle.
- 3:03Speaker 2: When you think about the words compete in leadership when
- 3:05Speaker 2: it comes to a guy like Shara, how did he
- 3:08Speaker 2: really kind of fill that role the best as far
- 3:10Speaker 2: as what you saw.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I was young when he was going
- 3:12Speaker 4: through it, but I mean you just hear so many
- 3:14Speaker 4: stories about it. You know, I had, you know, when
- 3:16Speaker 4: I was going on My agent was was his agent
- 3:19Speaker 4: as well, and you just heard the stories of how
- 3:21Speaker 4: hard he'd work, and you know how nice he was
- 3:24Speaker 4: to everyone, and how committed he was to hockey and
- 3:27Speaker 4: you know he didn't take any time off. And you
- 3:30Speaker 4: know it's all kinds of stories you hear, but you
- 3:32Speaker 4: know the way he played and the way he you know,
- 3:35Speaker 4: exemplified that and whether it was playoffs, broken jaw, you know,
- 3:39Speaker 4: and blocking shots, all that stuff, he was he was
- 3:42Speaker 4: a you know, true team guy.
- 3:43Speaker 2: As far as the game here for this Seamon, you've
- 3:45Speaker 2: heard a lot about the season that much the the
- 3:47Speaker 2: mo o is defense but then transitioning into offense. So
- 3:51Speaker 2: coming off a game like that last night, what kind
- 3:52Speaker 2: of tweaks mean the most for this team and their games.
- 3:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I think, you know, I think we kind of
- 3:58Speaker 4: know we didn't have our best last name we have,
- 4:00Speaker 4: so we were able to get the point, you know,
- 4:04Speaker 4: But I think tonight it's just about you know, our
- 4:06Speaker 4: compete level and winning battles.
- 4:08Speaker 3: And you know, making the plays.
- 4:10Speaker 4: When they're there and when they're not, you know, putting
- 4:12Speaker 4: them in deep because we're you know, a good for
- 4:13Speaker 4: checking team. We're a good offensive zone team. So you know,
- 4:17Speaker 4: I think tonight is just getting to our game.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Quicker.
- 4:19Speaker 4: I thought last night we we didn't get to our
- 4:21Speaker 4: game fast enough, and they they hung around and you know,
- 4:24Speaker 4: took it to us at some points. And we're going tonight,
- 4:26Speaker 4: we're just gonna worry about us get to our game
- 4:29Speaker 4: and do the little things that we do.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Well in the scope of the last month that's been
- 4:32Speaker 2: working for you cop Bocaco and abbs us well online together.
- 4:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I think exactly what I just said, kind of
- 4:41Speaker 4: you know, we're we're we're focusing on the little things.
- 4:44Speaker 4: We're focusing on, you know, winning battles, making two foot plays,
- 4:48Speaker 4: supporting each other and playing good d and and we've
- 4:52Speaker 4: been able to transition a lot of you know, good
- 4:54Speaker 4: d into offense, whether it's two on one, three on twos,
- 4:57Speaker 4: you know on you know, fast breaks out of the
- 5:00Speaker 4: out of their ozone. So yeah, you know, it's definitely
- 5:04Speaker 4: working right now. We're making good plays where we're putting
- 5:06Speaker 4: the puck in the net, so that obviously feels good.
- 5:09Speaker 4: But I think it does come down to just doing
- 5:11Speaker 4: the little things right.
- 5:12Speaker 3: All right.
- 5:13Speaker 2: It is a business trip, but of course plenty of
- 5:15Speaker 2: meeting here for this one, and I don't think but
- 5:17Speaker 2: here's is gonna have any shortage of motivation for a
- 5:20Speaker 2: game like this. For tonight, it's joining us now ever
- 5:22Speaker 2: it fits you back here from the TV side, it
- 5:26Speaker 2: calls occasionally here for him this season he went back
- 5:30Speaker 2: to back Rangers and Devils fist. Good to have you back,
- 5:32Speaker 2: my man. And also in a place where you and
- 5:35Speaker 2: family are kind of familiar with.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Yeah, good to be back man, my Yeah, Boston's kind
- 5:40Speaker 3: of a special place. My wife went to school in Newport,
- 5:44Speaker 3: Rhode Island, which is about an hour or so from here,
- 5:46Speaker 3: so she lived here for five years after college. So
- 5:49Speaker 3: she loves this city. And I've now been here a
- 5:52Speaker 3: handful of times with Shelle, and yeah, it's growing on me.
- 5:55Speaker 3: And we took our engagement pictures here, so every time
- 5:58Speaker 3: I come to every time I come to bo it
- 6:01Speaker 3: feels again through my wife, a little bit like home.
- 6:05Speaker 3: But good to be back on the radio. Man. I'm
- 6:07Speaker 3: happy you, by the way, crushed it. I need everybody
- 6:10Speaker 3: listening right now to give a horn honk, or a
- 6:13Speaker 3: clap or some snaps, finger pops, whatever. Mike Benton holding
- 6:17Speaker 3: it down his first ever trip to New York City,
- 6:21Speaker 3: let alone his first broadcast at the world's most famous
- 6:24Speaker 3: arena or in Jersey. This man's first trip to New
- 6:28Speaker 3: York City. I think his neck is in pain. He
- 6:31Speaker 3: was looking up in the sky. I go, oh, look
- 6:32Speaker 3: at that Oh look at that building. Oh look at
- 6:34Speaker 3: that building. He had, Mikey, it was so much fun.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Don't mind me the West Coast, Softy, you're getting his
- 6:38Speaker 2: first buddy of East Coast life.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Buddy, it was so much fun watching you your first
- 6:44Speaker 3: trip to NYC.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Man.
- 6:46Speaker 3: I was happy that I was able to be here
- 6:47Speaker 3: for that.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Man. It was a lot of fun. You We did
- 6:50Speaker 2: a lot. We took in a lot here that is
- 6:52Speaker 2: iconic here to the city. And I mentioned previously on
- 6:54Speaker 2: a radio hit with k Jerr the other day when
- 6:57Speaker 2: you walk into Madison Square Garden. Not to of course
- 7:00Speaker 2: too much here from the game this evening. Oh we
- 7:04Speaker 2: the building has undergone a renovation in the last eleven
- 7:09Speaker 2: twelve years, but there are still parts of it that
- 7:11Speaker 2: remain a bit you know, crusty around the edges. And
- 7:15Speaker 2: that's actually, to me, I think, a compliment because you
- 7:18Speaker 2: can still walk you know, through parts of it, past
- 7:21Speaker 2: parts of it as well, and kind of get the
- 7:23Speaker 2: feeling like this is exactly the way it looks back
- 7:26Speaker 2: when Mark Messier was in his prime, Adam Graves they
- 7:29Speaker 2: want a Stanley Cup together, Mike Rick, Debryan Leaf, the
- 7:32Speaker 2: Knicks at Patrick going, John Starks, even you know, back
- 7:35Speaker 2: out of the seventies with Phil Esposito coming in, you know,
- 7:38Speaker 2: Roger Gilbert around that time, and also Walt Clyde Frasier.
- 7:41Speaker 3: With the Knicks as well.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I mean, it's a building that just hits you in
- 7:46Speaker 2: the face like a tidal way with history.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the cool part. You know. I think so many,
- 7:51Speaker 3: so many of these teams, NBA, NHL, they're going through
- 7:55Speaker 3: these new buildings and they're all cookie cutter. And I'll
- 7:57Speaker 3: tell you what honestly, with the exception of CPA obviously,
- 8:02Speaker 3: I would say Detroit with Little Caesars Arena. I can't
- 8:08Speaker 3: honestly think of another newer building that still has character.
- 8:13Speaker 3: But when you go to a place like Calgary, right
- 8:15Speaker 3: when you go to MSG, you know the history is there,
- 8:18Speaker 3: and I love it because you walk around that building,
- 8:21Speaker 3: that place as a dump in the back, right, you're
- 8:24Speaker 3: in the bowels of the building, and you know, you're like, oh,
- 8:26Speaker 3: this is charming. It's a charming dump. But that's like,
- 8:29Speaker 3: you know, it's people speak with MSG obviously, with the
- 8:33Speaker 3: same reverence that I've heard of people speak of the Kingdom, right,
- 8:36Speaker 3: the Kingdome in Seattle. Yeah, you know, that place wasn't
- 8:38Speaker 3: anything special, but you know what, you know, you had
- 8:41Speaker 3: the Double in that building, you had all those Mariners
- 8:43Speaker 3: nineties teams, and you had some great Seahawks moments in
- 8:46Speaker 3: that building, and it was like that belonged to us
- 8:49Speaker 3: in Seattle, you know, from what my friends tell me
- 8:51Speaker 3: and MSG obviously, there are so many great events that
- 8:54Speaker 3: happened there. But they lot a really good job of
- 8:57Speaker 3: renovating it and they've modernized it a lot. Again, it
- 9:01Speaker 3: reminds me a lot of Chicago as well. The United
- 9:04Speaker 3: Center going on thirty plus years, but it seems like
- 9:07Speaker 3: every ten years or so they put eight to ten
- 9:10Speaker 3: fifteen million dollars in that building to upgrade it, to
- 9:14Speaker 3: renovate it. You go to the United Center, it doesn't
- 9:17Speaker 3: feel thirty years old. It feels maybe fifteen years old.
- 9:19Speaker 3: It feels ten years old. And I think that's because
- 9:22Speaker 3: they care. And you see an MSG the same thing.
- 9:24Speaker 3: They put that same amount of care into the renovations.
- 9:28Speaker 3: But when you're walking around the building, it is like
- 9:31Speaker 3: this place is kind of all right whatever, But then
- 9:35Speaker 3: you're there for an event. I've seen a Knicks game there.
- 9:37Speaker 3: I saw a Nick Piston's game last year when we
- 9:39Speaker 3: had a day off in New York. Obviously, the Rangers
- 9:41Speaker 3: games that I've been to. I've never seen a concert there,
- 9:44Speaker 3: but I heard shows they were unbelievable as well. That's
- 9:48Speaker 3: a great concert venue too, So I love the charm,
- 9:51Speaker 3: I love the character. I love the history of that
- 9:53Speaker 3: building and it's it is really special. It's one of
- 9:56Speaker 3: my favorite buildings to go to in this league.
- 9:58Speaker 2: It's a concrete jungle in the way that they talk
- 10:00Speaker 2: about the Kingdome, but I mean, I remember going to
- 10:01Speaker 2: games there when Griffy was in this prime, and it
- 10:04Speaker 2: just had a different kind of loud. You have the
- 10:07Speaker 2: fireworks going off as well. Once the Mariners hit home runs,
- 10:10Speaker 2: and it just hit difference.
- 10:12Speaker 3: I got one Kingdome story for you. I was probably
- 10:16Speaker 3: I was eight or nine, this is like ninety eight.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Went to Seattle on vacation with my mom. Went to
- 10:22Speaker 3: a Mariner's Tigers game and I caught a I got
- 10:26Speaker 3: a baseball thrown at me from Seth Greisinger, former Tigers pitcher,
- 10:30Speaker 3: and there was a deep oh yeah, and there was
- 10:32Speaker 3: a commotion around the first base dugout. The Mariners dugout.
- 10:37Speaker 3: So I went over and somebody was signing autographs. So
- 10:41Speaker 3: I brought my baseball down, got my ball signed by
- 10:44Speaker 3: some random mariner. Didn't think anything of it. Well, I
- 10:48Speaker 3: went home and I played with the baseball and I
- 10:50Speaker 3: lost it and I had like an obleap moment A
- 10:54Speaker 3: few years a few years later, watching Baseball tonight, that unnamed,
- 10:59Speaker 3: no named mariner that signed my baseball, Alex Rodriguez, and
- 11:04Speaker 3: what did you say. I went home and played with it.
- 11:06Speaker 3: I lost it and it was in It ended up
- 11:09Speaker 3: in the bushes and I'm watching baseball tonight once and
- 11:12Speaker 3: there was an A Rod highlight and it just hit
- 11:14Speaker 3: me like a ton of bricks, like a movie flashback.
- 11:17Speaker 3: I ran out of my house at like nine o'clock
- 11:19Speaker 3: at night. My mom's like, where the hell are you going.
- 11:22Speaker 3: I was like, I gotta go find my baseball. Some
- 11:24Speaker 3: bird took that baseball a long time ago. I'm thinking
- 11:26Speaker 3: that that ball is still in the bushes and I'm
- 11:29Speaker 3: tearing up roots and trying to find it. Obviously it
- 11:32Speaker 3: was gone. But that's about that extra in. Yeah, that
- 11:35Speaker 3: was that was my one, my one Kingdome story. I
- 11:39Speaker 3: remember watching that game. We sat in the outfield in
- 11:41Speaker 3: the bleachers. I couldn't tell you who won, but it
- 11:44Speaker 3: was really really cool watching Griffy play and watching Edgar
- 11:47Speaker 3: and uh a Rod and all that and Jay Buner.
- 11:54Speaker 3: I don't know if my camera was on the team
- 11:55Speaker 3: at the time, but yeah he was after Okay, but
- 11:59Speaker 3: yeah no, but uh yeah, that's my one King No memory.
- 12:03Speaker 3: From August to ninety eight, I want to say it
- 12:07Speaker 3: was eight ninety. I think it was ninety eight. August
- 12:09Speaker 3: and ninety eight, yeah, because I was nine, so August
- 12:11Speaker 3: and ninety eight is when I was there.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Depending upon it, Brandon Montur makes it back into the lineup.
- 12:15Speaker 2: We heard that Lane Lambert say he would be a
- 12:18Speaker 2: game time decision. I think leans into a great answer.
- 12:22Speaker 2: I thought that Lane Lambert gave us earlier this morning
- 12:25Speaker 2: about this team is getting healthier and there will be
- 12:28Speaker 2: tough decisions here to make with the lineup. But yeah,
- 12:32Speaker 2: I love this answer where in just kind of paraphrasing this,
- 12:35Speaker 2: you don't want to look at this as if like
- 12:38Speaker 2: it's a problem.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, coaches, and you know, you'll say, we've said it.
- 12:41Speaker 3: I've said it like, oh, this is a good problem
- 12:43Speaker 3: to have, and he goes, you know what. I've changed
- 12:46Speaker 3: my tune a little bit in the last couple of
- 12:48Speaker 3: weeks where I don't I'm starting not to view getting
- 12:52Speaker 3: back to full health as a problem, you know what,
- 12:54Speaker 3: and we don't think about that. But he's right, and
- 12:57Speaker 3: I do think, and we've said this on the podcast
- 12:59Speaker 3: on the Crack and Weekly Show before, I don't envy
- 13:02Speaker 3: Lane and Jason and the management in the days and
- 13:06Speaker 3: weeks to come, because you know Montour, I mean, if
- 13:09Speaker 3: he doesn't play tonight, he's probably gonna go Saturday. Schwartz
- 13:13Speaker 3: is back, Everly's back, Stevenson's back, cock Go's back to
- 13:17Speaker 3: full time. Mc Can's back to full time. Matt Murray,
- 13:20Speaker 3: I mean he he is inches millimeters away from the
- 13:25Speaker 3: starting line. It feels like, so, I mean this, we're
- 13:28Speaker 3: going into game what forty six tonight. I believe it
- 13:31Speaker 3: is forty six for the cracket forty six tonight and
- 13:34Speaker 3: they have yet to have a full complement of players.
- 13:37Speaker 3: House is crazy on the roster. Yeah, so there will
- 13:40Speaker 3: be some tough decisions that'll have to be made coming
- 13:42Speaker 3: up here in the next little bit, which, again I
- 13:44Speaker 3: don't envy that, but when you bring a guy like
- 13:47Speaker 3: Brandon Montour back in, you're giving some more offense from
- 13:49Speaker 3: the blue line, You're giving a little bit more puck management.
- 13:52Speaker 3: You've got another option on the power play. And you
- 13:55Speaker 3: have a guy that his leadership both on the ice
- 13:59Speaker 3: and in the locker room is infectious, and and he
- 14:03Speaker 3: is a guy that I think can help. He did
- 14:05Speaker 3: not care. He does. He helps drive this lineup and
- 14:09Speaker 3: in a multitude of areas. So it's only it's not
- 14:13Speaker 3: a problem, You're right, It's it's not a problem. It's
- 14:15Speaker 3: it's an embarrassment of riches, and I think where the
- 14:17Speaker 3: Kraken are right now, they're in a good spot. You're
- 14:20Speaker 3: finding ways to get points. You've got wins in nine
- 14:24Speaker 3: of your last thirteen games. You've got points in all
- 14:27Speaker 3: but one of those thirteen games. So you know, for
- 14:32Speaker 3: for me, getting him back is going to be massive
- 14:37Speaker 3: for this team. And I think you're gonna shore up
- 14:40Speaker 3: a few areas that, based on what we've heard from
- 14:44Speaker 3: players and coaches, may have been lacking in the last
- 14:46Speaker 3: handful of games.
- 14:47Speaker 2: This is gonna also, I think keep the lineup honest,
- 14:50Speaker 2: because I mean, hey, yeah, I mean last two weeks,
- 14:52Speaker 2: I mean, taking Jacob Alanson out was unfathomable. But all
- 14:56Speaker 2: of a sudden he finds himself on the sidelines last
- 14:59Speaker 2: night at New Jerseys. So we'll see what's happened, what's
- 15:02Speaker 2: gonna happen here for tonight. But I mean I look
- 15:04Speaker 2: at first to see if Lane wants to keep the
- 15:07Speaker 2: Ryan Winterton, Ben Myers, Freddie Gudreau line together or not.
- 15:12Speaker 2: But if you again, this is this is just how
- 15:14Speaker 2: the much is this lineup doesn't flux because I mean
- 15:17Speaker 2: we're talking so much about you know, Winterton, Myers, Milanson
- 15:20Speaker 2: as the fourth line trio that brings identity. But now,
- 15:24Speaker 2: I mean Goodreau is a big piece of the penalty kill.
- 15:28Speaker 2: And Ben Myers has been almost you know, to the
- 15:31Speaker 2: point where you can't take him out of the lineup.
- 15:33Speaker 2: And he won five or seven face offs at Philadelphia
- 15:36Speaker 2: last evening. So basically, then what do you do? Well,
- 15:38Speaker 2: who knows, But eventually Malatson's gonna make us way back in.
- 15:41Speaker 2: But now this basically lights a fire under a player
- 15:44Speaker 2: who might have to sit and think this is uncomfortable.
- 15:49Speaker 2: My next game will be one of my biggest games
- 15:52Speaker 2: here of the year. And this is why, you know,
- 15:54Speaker 2: we we call it a good problem to have. Lane
- 15:56Speaker 2: Lambert doesn't want to, you know, allude to it that way,
- 15:59Speaker 2: but it keep players hon us and that's what drives energy.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it does. And I think too, there's nothing wrong,
- 16:09Speaker 3: inherently wrong anyway with having a guy sit for a
- 16:13Speaker 3: game or two. You know, you look at a guy
- 16:15Speaker 3: like Jacob mllonson, who's now fourteen games into his NHL career,
- 16:20Speaker 3: thirteen fourteen games in his NHL career, he has done
- 16:23Speaker 3: so many good things. He is a he is a pro.
- 16:26Speaker 3: There's no doubt about it in my mind that Jacob
- 16:29Speaker 3: Allanson will be an NHL player for a very long time.
- 16:32Speaker 3: But you're right, you know, you know there are there
- 16:35Speaker 3: are there come those times and hey, it's not a
- 16:37Speaker 3: bad thing. You're not doing anything bad. But you know what,
- 16:40Speaker 3: let's have a seat for a bit, Let's just watch
- 16:42Speaker 3: the game for a little bit, saying we saw the
- 16:43Speaker 3: same thing with Shane Wright last year. We've seen the
- 16:45Speaker 3: same thing with a few of the other Ryan Winterton,
- 16:47Speaker 3: some of the other younger players. And that's okay because
- 16:50Speaker 3: he will get back into that lineup. I think where
- 16:53Speaker 3: the where the the big question mark coming in is
- 16:58Speaker 3: once Montor is ready to go, which by all accounts
- 17:01Speaker 3: could be tonight or could be Saturday in Utah, is
- 17:05Speaker 3: now you're gonna be over your roster limit because right
- 17:07Speaker 3: now you're at twenty three. So Stevenson comes back in,
- 17:12Speaker 3: you send down Fisker, Mulgard, Montor comes back, You're at
- 17:16Speaker 3: twenty four. So who goes down? Who gets put off
- 17:20Speaker 3: the roster? That is I think gonna be the bigger
- 17:23Speaker 3: question over lineup because you know Montur is gonna play,
- 17:27Speaker 3: Stevenson's gonna play. These guys are gonna be in the
- 17:29Speaker 3: lineup they're going to play, but it's the matter of
- 17:33Speaker 3: fact of who goes down. And when you look at
- 17:35Speaker 3: the players that don't require waivers, You've got right, You've
- 17:39Speaker 3: got Winterton, you've got Malansen. You have a few options
- 17:43Speaker 3: of guys who don't require waivers to be sent down,
- 17:45Speaker 3: So that's gonna be an option as well. But again,
- 17:50Speaker 3: it is an enviable position to be in because if
- 17:52Speaker 3: you're the Seattle Krack and you're getting healthy at a
- 17:54Speaker 3: time where other teams are starting to get hurt. And
- 17:57Speaker 3: let's not forget how many teams have more than six
- 18:00Speaker 3: guys going to the Olympics in a couple of weeks,
- 18:03Speaker 3: so they're still gonna be playing games. Then they're gonna
- 18:05Speaker 3: be going over to Italy, and you're gonna have to
- 18:08Speaker 3: play what potentially eight games in fourteen days, if not
- 18:13Speaker 3: fewer because of Olympics and Metal rounds and all of that.
- 18:16Speaker 3: So if your team can in a team USA, you're
- 18:18Speaker 3: probably gonna be playing eight games in the fourteen day span.
- 18:21Speaker 3: So I'm rambling, but it just it sounds like I
- 18:24Speaker 3: think for the Krack and they're gonna have to make
- 18:26Speaker 3: there will be making some decisions here in the next
- 18:28Speaker 3: twenty four hours, if it, if it, if that were
- 18:30Speaker 3: my guess, I would say the next twenty four hours,
- 18:33Speaker 3: we're gonna have a little bit more roster clarity.
- 18:35Speaker 2: If last night told a story, I'm really looking forward
- 18:39Speaker 2: to how the crack can come out of the shoot
- 18:41Speaker 2: this sevening, because it was pretty apparent that nobody was
- 18:45Speaker 2: really into how they played their own game for the
- 18:47Speaker 2: first forty minutes last night.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Yeah, four games in a row this team was conceded
- 18:50Speaker 3: the first goal and it's been a problem. And I
- 18:54Speaker 3: talked about a little bit of that on our last
- 18:56Speaker 3: radio broadcast and as well on the last two TV
- 18:58Speaker 3: side games that I did day and last night, that
- 19:01Speaker 3: when you get a guy like Everly or yeah, Ebery,
- 19:04Speaker 3: because he came back, he missed two games, came back,
- 19:06Speaker 3: Chandler Stevenson. You get him back, you're you're shoring up
- 19:09Speaker 3: your puck management, which I think has been an issue.
- 19:12Speaker 3: You get your top face off guy back in Chandler Stevenson,
- 19:15Speaker 3: and now you're gonna get some more responsibility and some
- 19:17Speaker 3: more offense on the defensive side of the puck from
- 19:20Speaker 3: Brandon Montour. Whether that be tonight or whether that be
- 19:22Speaker 3: on Saturday. So I think a lot of the areas
- 19:25Speaker 3: that we've seen fall and dip a little bit in
- 19:27Speaker 3: the last couple of games, those will be shored up
- 19:30Speaker 3: here in the short term. But you're right, I mean,
- 19:32Speaker 3: the starts have to be better, at least on the road.
- 19:35Speaker 3: I mean, if there's a saving grace to all of this,
- 19:39Speaker 3: you're losing points, quote unquote losing points in the Eastern Conference.
- 19:44Speaker 3: In the long run, those points won't matter as much.
- 19:47Speaker 3: Now you gotta win Saturday in Utah, Like, that's a
- 19:49Speaker 3: team that's gonna be chasing you and the Kraken. At
- 19:52Speaker 3: least as of right now, we're gonna be hovering around
- 19:54Speaker 3: that third in the division slash first second wildcard spot.
- 19:58Speaker 3: So Utah as a team that's gonna be right on
- 20:01Speaker 3: your backside for the rest of the year. So I mean,
- 20:03Speaker 3: if you if you're gonna drop points, if you're gonna struggle,
- 20:06Speaker 3: I guess you'd rather be to the East. But you
- 20:09Speaker 3: need to pick up points Saturday for sure. But tonight,
- 20:12Speaker 3: what a what a big win this would be for
- 20:14Speaker 3: the Krack and Joey Decord. Matty Beanier's back home. Matti
- 20:18Speaker 3: Baniers has had some good games to Cords had some
- 20:20Speaker 3: good games in this building. The emotions are gonna be
- 20:23Speaker 3: highs at dan O'shara, uh, you know very well deservedly
- 20:27Speaker 3: was gonna have his number retired here, and there's gonna
- 20:30Speaker 3: be a lot of pomp and circumstance and fanfare around that.
- 20:33Speaker 3: It would be wonderful if the crack and could spoil
- 20:35Speaker 3: that here tonight, use that potential distraction for the Bruins
- 20:40Speaker 3: to their advantage before we get out of here.
- 20:42Speaker 2: One thing that I really appreciate, and I'll let you
- 20:44Speaker 2: chime into about the Boston Bruins and the legacy that
- 20:48Speaker 2: they left and what we'll be seeing front and center
- 20:50Speaker 2: here for this evening is the leadership that was in
- 20:55Speaker 2: that room front and center. Shara a big part of it.
- 20:59Speaker 2: And that twenty ten and eleven team that beat the
- 21:02Speaker 2: Vancouver Canucks in seven games was an embodiment a perseverance
- 21:07Speaker 2: and an embodiment of death. You had, Shara, You had
- 21:11Speaker 2: Patrice bergeron coming into his prime. He had David Cracie
- 21:14Speaker 2: coming into his prime. Milan lud Chich was leading score
- 21:17Speaker 2: tied with Crazie on that team. Funny enough, and lud
- 21:20Speaker 2: Chich had thirty goals to lead Boston that season. But
- 21:22Speaker 2: up and down you had depth all the round offensively,
- 21:25Speaker 2: but Ludchiach and Creacie sixty two points to lead that
- 21:30Speaker 2: team that year, and then in gold Tim Thomas to
- 21:33Speaker 2: Garascus Well had a solid tandem under head coach Claude Julian.
- 21:37Speaker 2: So it's gonna be a lot of fun to look
- 21:39Speaker 2: at some of the throwbacks from a team that really
- 21:42Speaker 2: defined a big piece of sports legacy in this town
- 21:44Speaker 2: and really in the NHL fifteen years ago.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Yeah, that Boston Bruins team. That was a team that
- 21:50Speaker 3: was built and did everything the right way. Not only
- 21:54Speaker 3: did they play the right way, but their commitment to
- 21:57Speaker 3: their off ice workouts, their commitment to their their image
- 22:01Speaker 3: in the community, into being ambassadors, into being you know,
- 22:06Speaker 3: knowing what it's like and what it means to play
- 22:09Speaker 3: in the National Hockey League. I think so many players
- 22:12Speaker 3: we hear now you know, these.
- 22:14Speaker 5: Kids today ticket for granted. They they think they're gonna
- 22:17Speaker 5: get by on their skill alone. And that team they
- 22:21Speaker 5: worked hard. And I remember Dave Tomlinson telling me a
- 22:24Speaker 5: long time ago when he was with us still because
- 22:26Speaker 5: he was on the Vancouver Canuck broadcast crew at the
- 22:29Speaker 5: time for that far, that Stanley Cup Final series, and
- 22:31Speaker 5: he said, watching the Boston Bruins that year that that
- 22:34Speaker 5: should be, you know, a model for franchises on how
- 22:38Speaker 5: you build a team, how you coach a team, how
- 22:41Speaker 5: you carry yourself. And Lane Lambert told us this morning,
- 22:45Speaker 5: and we're gonna play the interview here tonight. So Dan
- 22:47Speaker 5: o'charro is probably the most favorite player he's ever coached,
- 22:52Speaker 5: you know. He said he was thirty seven years old
- 22:53Speaker 5: when he got him on the island, but still, you know,
- 22:56Speaker 5: his favorite player, and and he loved coaching against him,
- 22:59Speaker 5: and just hisment in his dedication that whole team embodied
- 23:02Speaker 5: all of that. So I'm looking forward to that.
- 23:05Speaker 3: I think just as a as a hockey fan in general,
- 23:08Speaker 3: there have been players that it's so weird now, you know,
- 23:12Speaker 3: as a fan my entire life, but really in the
- 23:14Speaker 3: last ten twelve years of my professional career seeing these
- 23:18Speaker 3: guys that I really enjoyed watching now calling their games,
- 23:21Speaker 3: but also seeing like a Jerome Againla. You know, there
- 23:24Speaker 3: was a ceremony that I was at where he was
- 23:26Speaker 3: being honored. Seeing a guy like Dane Chara, a guy
- 23:29Speaker 3: that I watched as a kid now having his number
- 23:32Speaker 3: raised here in Boston. It's gonna be cool for me
- 23:35Speaker 3: as a sports fan to see that and to be
- 23:36Speaker 3: a part of the whole thing. But like I said earlier,
- 23:39Speaker 3: want the crack and to use that to their advantage
- 23:41Speaker 3: and potentially, you know, catch the Bruins off guard, catch
- 23:44Speaker 3: him sleeping like they did, you know against I remember
- 23:48Speaker 3: Vegas actually early the year Vegas won the Cup, Seattle
- 23:52Speaker 3: went in there for the banner raising ceremony, and I
- 23:55Speaker 3: think it was the first five minutes of that period
- 23:57Speaker 3: they got up by a goal or something like that.
- 23:59Speaker 3: They really caught Vegas on their heels and then well
- 24:02Speaker 3: we know what happened to us, right, But yeah, different team,
- 24:06Speaker 3: different coachings, to have different formula and system. But you
- 24:10Speaker 3: put up seven on them last week. So let's let's honor,
- 24:13Speaker 3: let's pay respect to one of the best in our
- 24:15Speaker 3: league's history. But let's go out there and get two points.
- 24:17Speaker 2: A palm puck drop cracking trial to trying to spoil
- 24:20Speaker 2: the party again, face off this evening five pm Pacific,
- 24:24Speaker 2: eight pm Eastern. It's gonna be a late nine here
- 24:26Speaker 2: for us in the house, but gonna be a memorable
- 24:28Speaker 2: one as well as a crack and aiming for two
- 24:30Speaker 2: to one and one on the road trip and look
- 24:33Speaker 2: at to run the table in two games against the Bruins.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Everett and now have the call. I'll be with you
- 24:38Speaker 2: as well for your pregame. Show is served up by

- 24:48Speaker 3: That'll be it for us here.
- 24:49Speaker 2: A big thank you to Everett, also to Matt Eveniers
- 24:52Speaker 2: ever cracking this morning.
- 24:53Speaker 3: I'm Mike Benton. Enjoyed the game.
