- 0:07Speaker 1: This Mead Podcast. Welcome to meet either Trivia, the only
- 0:12Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, spent
- 0:15Speaker 1: to New Art and today we're joined by special guest
- 0:18Speaker 1: Dr Brad Tennant and Tommy Edson. In addition to Brad
- 0:22Speaker 1: and Tommy, we also have Steve, Joannice, cal Brody and
- 0:25Speaker 1: Chest here. Now, Brad, how do you feel about trivia?
- 0:27Speaker 1: You seem like a trivia going fellas. He's gonna kick
- 0:29Speaker 1: ass man. We'll see, We'll see a lot of people
- 0:33Speaker 1: lose from that seat. Brad. That Tommy Steves said that
- 0:38Speaker 1: that seat has only one once. I think you might
- 0:43Speaker 1: be right. Boy. That's a new stat we're gonna have
- 0:45Speaker 1: to keep. That's a winner corner over there. This is
- 0:49Speaker 1: a hot little women spot right here. Not Tommy. Steve
- 0:53Speaker 1: is said that you told him you always win, but
- 0:55Speaker 1: then Steve walked it back a couple episodes ago. So
- 0:59Speaker 1: here's your chance to set the record straight. How often
- 1:01Speaker 1: when you play trivia on lunch break are you winning?
- 1:04Speaker 1: I've won three. It's pretty damn good. I've won three.
- 1:08Speaker 1: And how are you normally doing otherwise? Uh? In the
- 1:12Speaker 1: top two or three? You know, I had one really
- 1:15Speaker 1: bad week. That week with cam Man, I think I
- 1:17Speaker 1: only got three right, but I don't know. I didn't
- 1:20Speaker 1: pay attention to help any You know, hey, I don't
- 1:23Speaker 1: look at who's behind me when I'm running. Now, what
- 1:27Speaker 1: about your co workers that you play with her? They sharp, Uh,
- 1:30Speaker 1: you know, we really don't play. In the last three
- 1:35Speaker 1: or four weeks, we don't really play anymore. I just
- 1:37Speaker 1: kind of keep score along with myself and play along
- 1:40Speaker 1: anybody's Maybe that's it. I don't know. And you had
- 1:44Speaker 1: to quit going used to go to your local Tribua night. Yeah,
- 1:46Speaker 1: but we had a we got a local kind of
- 1:48Speaker 1: watering whole bar not far from the house as trivia
- 1:50Speaker 1: night on Tuesday nights. I'm not going there anymore. Why not?
- 1:53Speaker 1: That's just I don't know. It's just kind of like, uh,
- 1:58Speaker 1: you know, you don't want to be that dude that's like, uh,
- 2:01Speaker 1: oh no, yeah, I don't want to. I mean maybe
- 2:06Speaker 1: some people do. I don't want you. We don't have
- 2:07Speaker 1: any experience like that. You know, I'll just shut up
- 2:11Speaker 1: that Steve has really hyped you up, and like you're
- 2:15Speaker 1: representing every listener who's ever thought they could come on
- 2:18Speaker 1: this show and win. So no, pressure. But there's a
- 2:21Speaker 1: lot of pressure because if you don't do well, I
- 2:23Speaker 1: don't know if we'll have another listener back. A lot
- 2:26Speaker 1: of pressure. Like I said, right before you turn that
- 2:29Speaker 1: machine on. Man, I'm a nice bird. It's under the surface.
- 2:33Speaker 1: You'll see. Go ahead now if you're not familiar, this
- 2:38Speaker 1: is a ten round quick show with questions from our
- 2:40Speaker 1: four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking, and
- 2:44Speaker 1: there is a prize. Media will donate five dollars to
- 2:46Speaker 1: the conservation organization of the winners choosing now. In our
- 2:50Speaker 1: last episode, I put a call out to help with
- 2:52Speaker 1: compiling trivia stance, and our listeners answered in a big way.
- 2:56Speaker 1: We told you just send an email to trivia at
- 2:58Speaker 1: the media dot com with the subject line suck it
- 3:00Speaker 1: Spencer if you were willing to collect data from previous
- 3:04Speaker 1: games of trivia. In the two days since that aired,
- 3:07Speaker 1: we got five three emails with spencer can suck it
- 3:11Speaker 1: as the subject like that's got it, Like psychologically, that's
- 3:13Speaker 1: really gotta take a toll on a guy. Man through
- 3:16Speaker 1: that every notification again and again and again. On Wednesday morning,
- 3:21Speaker 1: from five am to eight am, we were averaging one
- 3:23Speaker 1: point six emails per minute with that subject line. So
- 3:27Speaker 1: it was hot. So Steve's wish has been granted. We
- 3:31Speaker 1: finally have a library of Meat Eater Trivia stats. Now
- 3:34Speaker 1: I'm not going to drop them all right now, but
- 3:35Speaker 1: we'll introduce a new stat each time we play. For today,
- 3:39Speaker 1: we're going to reveal each player's winning percentage. As Steve requested,
- 3:43Speaker 1: this is the amount of times that they've won Meat
- 3:46Speaker 1: Eater Trivia tracked against the number of times they've played.
- 3:49Speaker 1: So here it is little. In first place is dustin half.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Of course, he's played once in one once, so he's
- 3:56Speaker 1: had a hundred percent. That's followed by Steve, who has
- 4:00Speaker 1: won thirty six percent of the games that he's played,
- 4:03Speaker 1: Brody at Janice at Clay at Seth and Chester and
- 4:13Speaker 1: Care at eight percent. Now everyone else whose name I
- 4:15Speaker 1: didn't say is at zero percent. Only this is gonna
- 4:19Speaker 1: be the I'm doing. I do one complaint per show. Now,
- 4:22Speaker 1: I don't know if this is today's complaint, and it
- 4:25Speaker 1: hasn't happened yet, I don't know. I might really be
- 4:26Speaker 1: biting my tongue later, stop saying, Krian one. It was
- 4:29Speaker 1: the April Fool's joke in which you gave her the answers,
- 4:32Speaker 1: you gotta expunge her from the board. Okay, it's like
- 4:37Speaker 1: the joke's over. She still gets to win. Whatever. Now,
- 4:44Speaker 1: everyone else whose name I didn't say is it's er
- 4:46Speaker 1: represent So Steve is leading the pack at thirty six
- 4:50Speaker 1: percent of who's present right now, Yes, well of everybody though,
- 4:54Speaker 1: and Brodie's only a few percent points behind that. Jannice
- 4:57Speaker 1: is right behind him. So it's tight. It's real tight,
- 5:00Speaker 1: ready now. In a previous game of trivia, we had
- 5:03Speaker 1: a question about the Mark Twain National Forest. After the
- 5:07Speaker 1: answers were revealed, this happened next play the clip, Phil.
- 5:12Speaker 1: The correct answer is Missouri. I know somebody that went
- 5:15Speaker 1: to it. You know what I think? If I can
- 5:18Speaker 1: name what town he was born and I get a point,
- 5:21Speaker 1: you can tell us the name, but we will not
- 5:23Speaker 1: give you a point. What was it? Hannibal, Missouri? Hannibal. Now,
- 5:30Speaker 1: About twenty folks wrote in to let me know that,
- 5:33Speaker 1: despite Steve's confidence, Mark Twain was not born in Hannibal, Missouri. Wow,
- 5:38Speaker 1: he spent a lot of time there. Maybe instead, he
- 5:42Speaker 1: was born in Florida, Missouri, which is about forty miles
- 5:45Speaker 1: from Hannibal where Mark Twain grew up, so he was
- 5:48Speaker 1: born in Florida but raised in Hannibal because they didn't
- 5:51Speaker 1: get a point. Also, on a previous show, we had
- 5:54Speaker 1: a question about the Daredevil fishing lure. In the follow
- 5:57Speaker 1: up fact Deroyd I said that the Germans referred to
- 6:00Speaker 1: the U. S. Marines as daredevil's because of their fierce
- 6:03Speaker 1: fighting style. What they actually called them was toy fuel hound,
- 6:07Speaker 1: which translates to devil dogs, not daredevil's. Getting that wrong
- 6:11Speaker 1: showed me how many Marines we have listening to the show,
- 6:13Speaker 1: which happens to be a lot. They atamirely wanted to
- 6:16Speaker 1: correct that one. They were not referred to as daredevil's.
- 6:19Speaker 1: They were called devil dogs. Yeah, it's worse to be
- 6:23Speaker 1: getting chased by a devil dog than a daredevil. I
- 6:26Speaker 1: think there you go with that. We were on the
- 6:28Speaker 1: game trivia Play the Drop, Phil, Look, I need to
- 6:33Speaker 1: know what I stayed to win everything? How's saying just
- 6:38Speaker 1: tend to win everything? Davon Suckers Question one. This would
- 6:51Speaker 1: be multiple choice. The topic is woodsmanship. Like I interrupted
- 6:54Speaker 1: real quick, Yeah, it's not to complain, Okay, it's not
- 7:00Speaker 1: the complaint. Uh, our new calendar, funked up old taxidermy, Um,
- 7:08Speaker 1: you can come for the taxi, I mean to stay
- 7:10Speaker 1: for the trivia because every month in the calendar there's
- 7:13Speaker 1: baked in trivia. And when is that calendar coming out September?
- 7:18Speaker 1: I feel like we're way ahead of the game this year.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I'm teething it. I like it alright. Question one, this
- 7:23Speaker 1: would be multiple choice in the topic is woodsmanship. Which
- 7:27Speaker 1: of these is not a real boy Scouts badge? Hunting,
- 7:31Speaker 1: fishing conservation? We're cooking? Which of these is not a
- 7:38Speaker 1: real boy Scouts badge? Hunting, fishing conservation, We're cooking? Three
- 7:46Speaker 1: of our four verticals are a merit badge. You can
- 7:50Speaker 1: earn one of them is not? No ship. Was anybody
- 7:55Speaker 1: in this room a boy scout? See this is written
- 8:00Speaker 1: for Tommy? It was not. It was not written for Tommy. Yanny,
- 8:05Speaker 1: you were a boy scount. Do you guys feeling confident? Okay,
- 8:09Speaker 1: you didn't write it cockily? Does somebody have an answer?
- 8:13Speaker 1: Brad got quite grin on his face. He got a
- 8:15Speaker 1: big go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Yanni
- 8:22Speaker 1: saying hunting, Steve saying hunting, Brad saying cooking, Tommy saying hunting,
- 8:26Speaker 1: Brody saying hunting, Chester saying conservation, and cal saying hunting.
- 8:32Speaker 1: The correct answer is hunting. Would you have, Tommy? Although
- 8:38Speaker 1: there's no hunting badge, they do offer merit badges for
- 8:41Speaker 1: rifle shooting, shotgun shooting, archery, and mammal study. There are
- 8:46Speaker 1: one d and thirty eight badges in total, and some
- 8:48Speaker 1: of the weirdest are basketry, bugling, coin collecting, dentistry, fingerprinting,
- 8:55Speaker 1: nuclear science, and plumbing dentistry. Did you boys earn any
- 9:00Speaker 1: of those? Oh? Yeah, nuclear science, No, I didn't. Do
- 9:03Speaker 1: you know the story of the kid they called the
- 9:05Speaker 1: radioactive Boy Scout that was he got a Geiger counter
- 9:10Speaker 1: and stuff and he was going around collecting uh, radioactive
- 9:14Speaker 1: materials and keeping his MAM's shed. It one becoming like
- 9:18Speaker 1: a major case. I mean they hauled away his yard
- 9:22Speaker 1: when they did the clean up. And he was the
- 9:25Speaker 1: radio active Boy Scout because the atomic energy thing. I
- 9:28Speaker 1: bet he was going around. He was going around antique
- 9:32Speaker 1: shops getting the old style of thermometers, and he built
- 9:38Speaker 1: up a huge collection of radioactive materials. Like I said,
- 9:41Speaker 1: he'd ride around with a Geiger counter on his dashboard.
- 9:44Speaker 1: What was his ultimate goal there? I can't remember. I
- 9:48Speaker 1: know the writer Ken Silverstein, I think wrote the piece
- 9:51Speaker 1: called Radioactive Boy Scout and Harper's question to the topic
- 9:55Speaker 1: is fishing. This next way question comes to was via
- 9:58Speaker 1: Troy Allard. If you have a question and you think
- 10:00Speaker 1: is right for meata to trivia, you can send it
- 10:02Speaker 1: to trivia at the meat eater dot com. What is
- 10:05Speaker 1: the colorful nickname biologists gave Lake Winnipeg's world famous wally? What?
- 10:12Speaker 1: What is the colorful nickname biologists gave Lake Winnipeg's world
- 10:17Speaker 1: famous wally? You like that one? Chester? Anybody else's confidences?
- 10:26Speaker 1: Chester is no? No? I know what my old man
- 10:29Speaker 1: used to call him in Lake Erie. It's been generous
- 10:34Speaker 1: with some hints lately. Brody's cut that ship. What's his hint? Was?
- 10:43Speaker 1: My dad used to call him something in a different
- 10:47Speaker 1: lake One more time? What is the colorful nickname biologists
- 10:53Speaker 1: gave Lake Winnipeg's world famous Wally? Does everybody have an answer? No? No?
- 10:59Speaker 1: Keep the wall like questions coming? Does everyone knows Steve's
- 11:03Speaker 1: board has suck it? Brodie's written back, I love it
- 11:08Speaker 1: that his board says suck it. Brodie because I know
- 11:10Speaker 1: I'm getting his head because you're in there, buddy. All right,
- 11:18Speaker 1: does everybody now have an answer? Oh yeah, let's do it.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Yanni saying Walter,
- 11:26Speaker 1: Steve saying rainbow, Wally Brad without an answer, Tommy saying Wally, Gator,
- 11:32Speaker 1: Brody saying yellow Pike, Chester saying green Backs, Cal saying
- 11:36Speaker 1: blue eyes. The correct answer is Greenbacks. Congratulations man. Winnipeg's
- 11:41Speaker 1: Wally are famously emerald green thanks to the limestone substrate
- 11:46Speaker 1: that fills the lake. If you want to see some
- 11:48Speaker 1: Greenbacks get caught, then check out season two, episode three
- 11:51Speaker 1: of The Canadian Angle on Meat Eaters YouTube channel, where
- 11:53Speaker 1: Ja Siemens and Josh McFadden ice Fish Lake, Winnipeg. We
- 11:58Speaker 1: are on too. Questions three. The topic is Explorers. Thomas
- 12:09Speaker 1: Jefferson kept this mammal as a pet, which he received
- 12:13Speaker 1: from Lewis and Clark part way through their expedition. Say
- 12:18Speaker 1: the question again. Thomas Jefferson kept this mammal as a
- 12:21Speaker 1: pet which he received from Lewis and Clark part way
- 12:25Speaker 1: through their expedition. Brad, how you feel about this one?
- 12:30Speaker 1: He's doing a lot of writing again. Thomas Jefferson kept
- 12:36Speaker 1: this mammal pet can you write it again? Brad down
- 12:41Speaker 1: to bro which he received from Lewis and Clark part
- 12:45Speaker 1: way through their expedition. I had about five trivia questions
- 12:51Speaker 1: written about Lewis and Clark. The other four all got
- 12:53Speaker 1: covered on the last podcast, so I couldn't use them. Thankfully,
- 12:56Speaker 1: you didn't go into this detail, so you saved me
- 12:59Speaker 1: something for trivia. Does everybody have an answer? No? What if?
- 13:05Speaker 1: What are you gonna do with Brad's answer is this
- 13:07Speaker 1: is didn't actually happen. I will take the loss. Then,
- 13:14Speaker 1: I was telling Chester before the show, I think this
- 13:16Speaker 1: might be a hard batch. We may need to establish
- 13:20Speaker 1: a Shelby line for trivia because I was played with
- 13:24Speaker 1: her before I come to the show, and it kind
- 13:26Speaker 1: of helps me understand how difficult or easy the batches.
- 13:29Speaker 1: And usually she does about half as well as the winner.
- 13:32Speaker 1: And she got three of these right, so the winner
- 13:35Speaker 1: today be expected to get six based on the Shelby barometer.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Yeah, go ahead and reveal
- 13:46Speaker 1: your answers. We have Janice saying Antelope, Steve saying buffalo calf,
- 13:51Speaker 1: Brad saying prairie dog, Tommy saying squirrel, Brodie saying badger,
- 13:55Speaker 1: Chester saying raccoon, and Cal saying prairie dog. The correct
- 13:58Speaker 1: answer is prairie dog. Everybody knows that company. The prairie
- 14:04Speaker 1: dog was shipped with four magpies and a rough grouse,
- 14:07Speaker 1: but only one magpie and the prairie dog survived the journey.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Jefferson was reportedly delighted and entertained by the prairie dog,
- 14:15Speaker 1: which he had taxidermy after its death. The stuff prairie
- 14:18Speaker 1: dog was eventually sold to P. T. Barnum, who kept
- 14:21Speaker 1: it at his New York museum that burned down in
- 14:24Speaker 1: eighteen six. In the calendar was the remaining magpie very fat.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I don't eat everybody else. I don't know what happened
- 14:33Speaker 1: to that one. Now, did you intimately know that story? Brad?
- 14:38Speaker 1: They actually spent most of the day trying to catch
- 14:41Speaker 1: catch one magpie. It's gonna be one prairie dog. And uh,
- 14:44Speaker 1: that night they after they did catch one, they had
- 14:47Speaker 1: it for supper. Cis and Clark could have been much
- 14:50Speaker 1: of a meal. But do you know how they caught him?
- 14:52Speaker 1: Did they like at him out of the hole? They
- 14:54Speaker 1: started digging them out at first, and that wasn't working,
- 14:56Speaker 1: so then they had the men start bringing buckets of
- 14:58Speaker 1: water and trying to flood them out. At the end
- 15:00Speaker 1: of the day. That one period of the kids. We
- 15:03Speaker 1: call that otter and huh did they come up looking
- 15:06Speaker 1: like an otter? Question for the topic is cooking. About
- 15:11Speaker 1: sixty percent of people with this allergy developed it as
- 15:15Speaker 1: an adult, making it the most common food allergy among
- 15:19Speaker 1: adult Americans. About sixty percent of people with this allergy
- 15:25Speaker 1: develop it as an adult, making it the most common
- 15:29Speaker 1: food allergy among adult Americans. Does everybody have an answer?
- 15:36Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Janice saying milk,
- 15:40Speaker 1: Steve saying what does that say? Da dairy, Brad saying
- 15:44Speaker 1: peanut butter, Tommy saying nuts, Brody saying dairy chest, You're
- 15:47Speaker 1: saying shellfish, and kel saying peanuts. We have a diverse
- 15:50Speaker 1: group of answers. The correct answer is shellfish. That is bullshit.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Of people aren't allerged to shell fish. Of people who
- 16:01Speaker 1: developed the allergy got it as an adult. Know you
- 16:05Speaker 1: said about sixty of people with this allergy develop it
- 16:12Speaker 1: as an adult, making it the most common food allergy
- 16:15Speaker 1: among adult Americans. You know I got it wrong too.
- 16:19Speaker 1: The most common. You're saying it's the most common food
- 16:21Speaker 1: allergy among Americans. Adult American reads a sentence to me. Again.
- 16:26Speaker 1: He's looking at the script. About sixty of people with
- 16:31Speaker 1: this allergy develop it as an adult, making it the
- 16:33Speaker 1: most common food allergy among adult Americans. Listen, dude, shellfish
- 16:39Speaker 1: is not the most common. Is not. There's no way
- 16:42Speaker 1: that's the most common food allergy among adult Americans. You
- 16:45Speaker 1: need to argue with the study that put out this thing.
- 16:49Speaker 1: There's very so many varying levels of shellfish allergy. I'm
- 16:53Speaker 1: allergic to shellfish allergy. I wrote nuts About seven point
- 16:58Speaker 1: two million adults Americans have a shellfish allergy. That's followed
- 17:02Speaker 1: by milk at four point seven million, peanuts at four
- 17:05Speaker 1: point five million, tree nuts at three million, and finned
- 17:09Speaker 1: fish at two point two million. Scientists aren't sure why
- 17:13Speaker 1: why shellfish allergies don't develop until adulthood, but suspect it
- 17:17Speaker 1: has something to do with hormones and environmental triggers. Whatever.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I guess that. I guess that one because I compare.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I have that conversation very often with folks allergic to
- 17:30Speaker 1: shellfish or finned fish or both, so you can eat
- 17:34Speaker 1: shellfish correct. I can take any questions about chesters allergy
- 17:40Speaker 1: Question five. The topic is conservation. We'll get a scoreboard
- 17:43Speaker 1: update after this. This next great question comes to us
- 17:45Speaker 1: from Chris Ford. If you have a question you think
- 17:47Speaker 1: is right for meata to trivia, you can send it
- 17:49Speaker 1: to trivia at the meat eater dot com. The nineteen
- 17:52Speaker 1: fifty nine Federal duck stamp is the only one in
- 17:56Speaker 1: history that features a dog. What kind of dog is it? Nineteen?
- 18:04Speaker 1: The nineteen fifty nine federal duck stamp is the only
- 18:08Speaker 1: one in history that features a dog. What kind of
- 18:12Speaker 1: dog was it? Now? I'm looking for a specific answer.
- 18:16Speaker 1: So if you thought the answer was dear, you wouldn't
- 18:18Speaker 1: write dear. You would write white tail deer or mule deer. Well,
- 18:23Speaker 1: that gives it away. It doesn't, Spenser, No, it does not.
- 18:26Speaker 1: It's as simple as the most common allergy. At nine
- 18:33Speaker 1: federal duck stamp is the only one in history that
- 18:35Speaker 1: features a dog. What kind of dog is it? Does
- 18:37Speaker 1: everybody have an answer? Yes? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 18:41Speaker 1: We have Janice saying a Chesapeake Bay retriever, Steve saying
- 18:45Speaker 1: a Chesapeake Bay, Brad saying a Cocker Spaniel, Tommy saying
- 18:49Speaker 1: a black Lab, Brodie saying a Chesapeake Bay retriever. Chester,
- 18:52Speaker 1: you're saying a Golden retriever, and Cal saying a black lab.
- 18:56Speaker 1: The correct answer is black lab. So wow, this is
- 19:02Speaker 1: I'm having a bad game. The Federal Duck Stamp Competition
- 19:08Speaker 1: encourage artists that year to submit designs that featured a dog.
- 19:12Speaker 1: They wanted to emphasize the dog's role in retrieving wounded
- 19:16Speaker 1: ducks and hoped it would get more hunters to use them.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Phil hit us with a scoreboard update. We are halfway
- 19:22Speaker 1: through the game of trivia alright. Tied for third place
- 19:26Speaker 1: with one point each are Steve, Jane, Brody and Brad.
- 19:31Speaker 1: And then in second place with two points, we have
- 19:34Speaker 1: Chester and Tommy tied up, and in first place with
- 19:37Speaker 1: three is Ryan Callahan, Cal going first first. This is
- 19:45Speaker 1: by far and away not the first time I've been
- 19:49Speaker 1: ahead of everyone at this point. Choke later, It's not choking.
- 19:54Speaker 1: I just think the next step instead of picking the
- 19:57Speaker 1: easiest answer. You know what I mean, You're like, I'll
- 20:00Speaker 1: show them missed a big part here. And you know,
- 20:04Speaker 1: if you consider nineteen and what was going on, Yeah, exactly,
- 20:12Speaker 1: pretty pretty simple. The hippies weren't here yet. Question six.
- 20:25Speaker 1: The topic is hunting. Four states have the black bear
- 20:29Speaker 1: as their official state mammal name one of them, and
- 20:32Speaker 1: I'll give you a hint. Two of these states border
- 20:34Speaker 1: each other. Four states have the black bear as their
- 20:39Speaker 1: official state mammal name one of them, and again two
- 20:44Speaker 1: of these states are touching. Four states have the black
- 20:48Speaker 1: bear as their official state mammal name, one of them.
- 20:52Speaker 1: How are we doing? Is everybody have an answer? Not happy? Man?

- 28:45Speaker 1: Just no, I wrote, Phil, give us a scoreboard update. Uh.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Cal still in first place with four points, but Janice
