- 0:02Hello everyone and welcome to the Random Heathen Ramblings
- 0:04podcast where we discuss all sorts of things Dramatic
- 0:07Heathenry related. My name is Jesse.
- 0:10I am your host. Let's get into it.
- 0:36Welcome, welcome, welcome, everybody.
- 0:38Looking forward to today's podcast episode and I sure hope
- 0:41that you are too. As happens quite often here on
- 0:44this show, I plan on doing something a certain way or I
- 0:48plan on doing, you know, sometimes I don't even have a
- 0:51plan. You know, a lot of times I'm
- 0:53just out here not winging it, but you know, just kind of going
- 1:00with the flow. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:01Going with what the the muses give me to to feel inspired by
- 1:06what the norms are weaving in that rich tapestry of weird.
- 1:11So one of the things that happens sometimes as I get
- 1:15messages or I get reached out to by people and get asked about a
- 1:20topic or in this case today's episode get asked about coming
- 1:25onto the show. And it's it's it's rare unless I
- 1:30have something else that's been already advertised or promoted
- 1:35in some sort of way that I would you know decline a guest on the
- 1:39show for a week. You know so I did I I have a
- 1:44guest coming on here today. You guys probably know him from
- 1:47some of his musical projects that he's he shared.
- 1:51I've I've posted some stuff with him in the past.
- 1:54He's been on this show a couple of seasons ago if I recall
- 1:59correctly, but we are going to be talking today with Zeb Croon
- 2:04from the Nordic Folk Band or Nordic Folk Music Project.
- 2:09That's kind of a one man show as it is right now.
- 2:11He he you know creates and produces all his own music.
- 2:16But his project is called Skogamore or as our friend Papa
- 2:21Ollison and at Fialvatir says school Gourmet or But he's a
- 2:26great guy. I've known him now for many
- 2:28years. We've met in person a number of
- 2:31times and we have an event coming up here later in the
- 2:35year, sort of a closed off private event up in Appalachia
- 2:39with Papa Oleson and some other friends called Fire on the
- 2:42Mountain. I've shared some stuff about
- 2:45that on my various social media platforms, but it is a closed
- 2:49off invite only, sort of a sort of a thing shamanic retreat.
- 2:56So there won't be a whole lot of details getting shared about it,
- 3:00but he he will be present for that event and we're looking
- 3:03forward to to that very much. We might be talking a little bit
- 3:06about that today. We will, you know, we'll see.
- 3:09But he wanted to come on here and talk about the current
- 3:13direction that Skogormore has has gone in with his, his music
- 3:17and inspirations and stuff. So not only is he a talented
- 3:21musician, he is also an avid outdoorsman, A practicing
- 3:26heathen himself. And as I understand, he just
- 3:29recently relocated to the Appalachian Mountains himself or
- 3:36or located himself to the Appalachian Mountains, him and
- 3:38his family after a long process of, you know, getting moved with
- 3:43his job and and all that kind of stuff.
- 3:45So I'm going to welcome him in today and invite you to as well.
- 3:49Before we get there, please be sure to check the video
- 3:52description or podcast show notes for all the ways that you
- 3:56can support and follow. You know, follow me on all my
- 4:00socials, the you know, the mid garden musings, social medias
- 4:03and and YouTube and podcast. Follow along, subscribe, share
- 4:07all that fun stuff. And then also check out any of
- 4:10the other things that I have. LinkedIn, that link, tree link.
- 4:13When it comes to other ways that you can support, there's
- 4:15merchandise to buy, you can become a patron on Patreon.
- 4:17There's other things that are down there that if you're so
- 4:21inclined and you want to show your support by tossing a coin
- 4:26my way than those options are down there and encourage you to
- 4:30please check that out. So got a couple of cool things
- 4:33coming up here in the Middle Tennessee area which I will just
- 4:36briefly mention now the let me see here.
- 4:41The first one is actually this coming Sunday in Murfreesboro
- 4:46and it is a kind of Heathenry 101 or introduction to to
- 4:49Germanic Heathenry class that myself and a good friend of mine
- 4:55Greg Strong from the Raven, Moon Hearth Kindred.
- 4:57We're going to be Co hosting that and that is in
- 5:01Murfreesboro, TN at the General Bragg trailhead.
- 5:05There's an event page for that on Facebook.
- 5:07So it will be LinkedIn. The description show notes if
- 5:10you're near or in relatively close proximity to the
- 5:13Murfreesboro TN area and you want to come out, we will be
- 5:16there. It is rain or shine.
- 5:18It is outdoors, but it is in a shelter pavilion, so there's a
- 5:22playground there. There's restrooms.
- 5:23It's all it's all set, you know, plenty of picnic tables and
- 5:27stuff to sit at. So we're looking forward to
- 5:29hosting that. Greg and I are.
- 5:32And then later on in October, the Raven Moon Hearth Kindred is
- 5:36hosting their annual Shadow Mood event and that is in
- 5:40Springfield, TN. I'll also be having a link for
- 5:43that, a Facebook event page, LinkedIn the description and
- 5:47show notes as well. It is a camping sort of event if
- 5:51you so choose to come for that October 13th, 14th, and then
- 5:55they close everything on the 15th.
- 5:57But if you just want to come for one day, you can do that.
- 6:00If you decide you just want to come for the one day, then we
- 6:03encourage you to come on the 14th, which is Saturday, because
- 6:07that's when all of the classes are held, all the workshops are
- 6:09held, all the games are happening, the ritual, the
- 6:11feasting, all of the fun stuff that happens at Shadowmoot
- 6:15happens on Saturday. You know, Friday is kind of your
- 6:18arrival date, get settled in. There will be a probably a
- 6:22couple of things going on class wise, but there's vendors as
- 6:26well, so they'll be all kinds of cool stuff to to purchase.
- 6:28So definitely bring your purses, your wallets, your currency,
- 6:33your coin, bring all that stuff too to support the vendors that
- 6:36come out here and that you know sell the stuff that they do and
- 6:40and offer the services that they offer.
- 6:43And again, like I said, it closes up on Sunday around noon
- 6:48at their closing ceremony when they bid everyone farewell.
- 6:51And yeah, so that'll be again October 13th through 15th.
- 6:56My wife and I'll be there along with some other members of my
- 6:58tribe. Liberty folk look forward to
- 7:00seeing you there. If you can come it is $45.00 for
- 7:04the weekend. I think children under 12 get in
- 7:06free and if you come for just a day, it's $20.00 for the day.
- 7:11There are no advance tickets to buy, so you just show up and pay
- 7:15quote, UN quote at the gate, right?
- 7:17So look forward to seeing you all there.
- 7:20In the meantime, let's let's go ahead and get ready to welcome
- 7:24in Zeb Croom of Skoger Mayor here on the Random Heathen
- 7:27Ramblings podcast. All right, well, here we are,
- 7:32folks. We got Zeb here from the
- 7:36mountains of North Carolina, representing Skogermore, right?
- 7:41How do you say it like I've heard it said like 3 different
- 7:43ways I've heard. Papa, say it, you know.
- 7:47There's an easy way, right, Skoga More right?
- 7:49Yeah, I like to say Skoga. Me at all, Skoga.
- 7:53Me at all. But we just go Skoga more and
- 7:57everyone's like okay, there's Skoga more.
- 7:59I'm sure it helps with the. I'm sure it helps with the the
- 8:05local dialect of English that people speak if you don't
- 8:08complicate things too much or add too many syllables.
- 8:10And they just go scoga more. There's scoga more.
- 8:13Yeah, Yeah. And I do get asked that a lot.
- 8:17And so yeah, I'm like, you could just say scoga more.
- 8:19It's cool. And that's actually a word that
- 8:23means something, doesn't it? Yes, Men of the Forest.
- 8:28Yeah. And you have kind of become
- 8:30that. Very much so.
- 8:31I mean, you always have been like a real avid outdoors guy,
- 8:34you know, loving, being in nature and stuff.
- 8:38So it's fitting. It that it was going when I
- 8:42started this project back in 2020, you know, you instantly
- 8:48start thinking of like what's your imagery, what's your logo,
- 8:50what's your name, right. And.
- 8:54I was going through so much, you know, I'm digging everything I
- 8:57can through, you know, obviously want it Norse related.
- 9:01And that that term, that word just was like, this is you.
- 9:05How'd you How'd you come across it?
- 9:08Just reading, just trying to find reading stuff, looking up
- 9:11terms like what does this mean, what can I do with forest men?
- 9:13And then bam ended up coming through.
- 9:16I don't even remember to this day how I found it, like what
- 9:19the actual script was, but says Google more.
- 9:22And then I was like. You look at it right?
- 9:24And I like how it, how it was spelled.
- 9:26And I'm like, OK, what's this? Then I dig into it and then bam,
- 9:29men of the forest. And I'm like, hey, this is, this
- 9:32is perfect. Yeah, it's very fitting.
- 9:35I mean, I love it, man. You know me for a while, a lot
- 9:39of my imagery goes around wolves.
- 9:41And you know, I have a wolf dog that's been with me 12 years.
- 9:44So she's kind of the the center of that logo.
- 9:49So I knew when I was having a logo created, I was like, gotta
- 9:52have something to represent a wolf.
- 9:53And for her, you know. Yeah.
- 9:56And because, yeah, even though, like, I'm in the forest a lot,
- 10:00she's always with me. So she comes with me, which also
- 10:05the track was of Odin. You can hear her in that track.
- 10:09I recorded her. I was working on something.
- 10:11I was working on another track when I was writing that album.
- 10:14And she started Her chatters. Her, her Chewbacca, I call it.
- 10:19Yeah, So instantly light bulb clicks and I'm like mic on and
- 10:24just look at her and she's just so she's in the track with me,
- 10:28man. So that's something that I did
- 10:31that I'm always gonna have stamped for the rest of my life,
- 10:34and we'll have her voice with me forever.
- 10:37Excellent. Yeah.
- 10:38You just came out with a new single, too, right?
- 10:41Yes. Yes.
- 10:43Heavens rent asunder. That one I had been, I'm a
- 10:49little behind because I'm working on.
- 10:51I'm basically going to write. I'm writing a new EP and a
- 10:55little behind schedule as I just purchased my new house so had a
- 11:00lot of crazy going on originally was hoping to have this EP done
- 11:04by October. That didn't happen, obviously
- 11:08still not going to happen, but if everything works out, I'm
- 11:11going to have it done before the end of this year and.
- 11:16I wanted to change the direction of my music a little bit, not
- 11:21too much. You know, the first album was
- 11:25about my family. Yes, a lot of people didn't know
- 11:29it, but every song was like wrote for like my children and
- 11:34my family. Like in general.
- 11:38And I there's there was a lot in it.
- 11:40There was a lot of learning curves.
- 11:41There was a lot of, you know, you step out of doing heavy
- 11:44metal for 20 years. And jump into that, right, You
- 11:49jump into this ambient Nordic style, it's totally different.
- 11:54I had a lot to learn, programs, recording software, dolls, like
- 11:58instruments. There's been a lot to it, you
- 12:02know, And it took a little, took a little while to get that album
- 12:04out. And you know once I got done
- 12:07with it, you know, I was happy, satisfied with the product at
- 12:12the time. You know now like you, you know
- 12:14as you advance you're like. I could have put a whistle
- 12:17there, or I could have put a drone there, or maybe I put too
- 12:21much drone there. But, you know, that's the artist
- 12:23in me just always going to criticize my own work.
- 12:26But in the end game, I wrote that album for my family.
- 12:30I didn't really, you know, expect to to start building a
- 12:36fan base. It was more or less just a
- 12:38journey that I needed to do and I wanted to capture.
- 12:42And then shortly after, you know, it was picked up with
- 12:46Inner Demon Records. So I was very honored to join
- 12:50their family and they've done a great job with helping me, you
- 12:54know, push push my music and push the album out there and the
- 12:57name too. It's a very honor to be, you
- 12:59know, working with them and and again going to be working with
- 13:02them on the EP as well. But yeah, with with my
- 13:06background in music or heavy metal should I say.
- 13:10I've always liked the darker style of music, and with the
- 13:14first album there was only a couple hints of that.
- 13:19So with this new EP, that's where I'm driving.
- 13:23And so when I finished Heavens Rent a Thunder, I was like,
- 13:28should I wait? No, I'm not going to wait.
- 13:30Let's get let's get this track out here because I want everyone
- 13:33to see that, you know? That's the direction to expect
- 13:36from the new album. Give them a taste of what's
- 13:38what's to come, right? Give them a taste man.
- 13:42I'm excited a couple of guests going to be on it too, so
- 13:46looking forward to working with them.
- 13:48Really. People you know or can you say
- 13:51much about it, I guess? I can absolutely say I don't
- 13:55think they mind a good friend from Febitur Workshop.
- 14:00Well, yeah, yeah, he's going to be joining me on the track doing
- 14:03some drumming. Sweet.
- 14:06Currently working on that track right now and just, I mean I
- 14:10don't mind sharing it, but you've been to the spot Widows
- 14:14Creek Falls. So I'm writing the track because
- 14:17me and him both love that spot a lot.
- 14:20So I'm writing a track dedicated to that area was down there the
- 14:25other day with him what at that spot, but I left him and went to
- 14:28that spot and capture some recording of the waterfall
- 14:31itself so it can be in the track.
- 14:34So there's there's that one. And Chris, who fronts Sun and
- 14:40Moon and Dance, who is also a local Pagan musician from
- 14:44Appalachia. We we met at a like a little
- 14:49rim. Fair it.
- 14:51Just got the chatting and we started talking about it and I
- 14:54was like, hey, you know, I'm writing a new EP and would be
- 14:57honored to have you on. And he was like, absolutely so.
- 15:01We've chatted a little bit. That's the next song that I got
- 15:03to finish up and I highly recommend anyone looking,
- 15:07watching this to definitely or listening go to check out Sun
- 15:10and Moon and Dance. He's on all platforms, multi
- 15:14instrumentalist, beautiful, does a lot of traditional folk music
- 15:21and he's absolutely amazing. It's exciting.
- 15:25I was curious if you know when when when I met you first.
- 15:29You know years ago, this was before Skogamore.
- 15:32This was you know when when you and I first met you were again
- 15:37heavily involved with the the more like black metal death
- 15:42metal scene and. So I was curious, you know we
- 15:47haven't really I think talked in in detail about the transition
- 15:51from that extreme kind of music and playing with other musicians
- 15:56at venues and or or in studio and going from that to becoming
- 16:01a solo artist that writes and records and and plays everything
- 16:08on your like everything on your albums.
- 16:11You know, like you play the the drums, you do the The Liar, I
- 16:15think you've got a toggle harp right, that you've dabbled in.
- 16:19So like, what was that? The transition from being a
- 16:24performing musician in a band, guitar, whatever, and then going
- 16:29from that into more like the traditional stuff and being all
- 16:32yourself. Hard as hell.
- 16:35That's the best way to put it. With the other bands, I was
- 16:41always known to basically kind of be the front four of like the
- 16:46theatrics and building our themes and stuff like that.
- 16:50So for me in that aspect, super easy.
- 16:55You know, I've already worked on the imagery, you know, getting
- 16:59ready for upcoming live shows. I have already have theatrics
- 17:03ready to go along with my image as well.
- 17:06So that part super easy. I think it's one of my favorite
- 17:09things to do as well, especially when it comes to performing is
- 17:12the one at theatric center and grabbing attention right
- 17:17musically. It's completely night and day.
- 17:21I mean, it is, you know, I was explaining to a friend the other
- 17:26day and it was like, you know, give me a guitar and a
- 17:28microphone and I'll start ripping some black metal riffs
- 17:32and like, yeah, you know, and start screaming my head off,
- 17:34right. It's second nature because I've
- 17:36done it for so long. This material takes a lot more
- 17:41of my creativity, a lot more of my time, and I'll certainly a
- 17:46lot more of my patience. Because I don't want to be over
- 17:52reptitious, like I don't want to constantly do the same thing.
- 17:56I always want to be able to capture the attention and keep
- 18:00the attention there. And I'm not saying you can't do
- 18:02that with metal, obviously, you know, But a lot of it can still
- 18:06kind of be the same. So definitely harder.
- 18:10And then, you know, I'm used to working with a group of
- 18:13individuals musically. That you start bouncing these
- 18:17ideas off and like, hey, how about we do this, how about you
- 18:19do that and you try this and OK, boom.
- 18:22And that's how a bands form and that's how a band works
- 18:24together. All I have is me, myself in the
- 18:29mirror to kind of talk to about it and say, hey, this is what do
- 18:33you think? You know?
- 18:34So yeah, and a lot of times I record like, especially like
- 18:37right now with this new EP, I get the idea, you know, and I
- 18:40might be at my normal job. And sit there and think, an idea
- 18:44like a riff or an idea or a rhythm pops in my head.
- 18:48I come home, turn everything on, grab the instrument, and I lay
- 18:52it down and I walk away sometimes.
- 18:54That way it can sit. And then when I'm ready to go
- 18:57back in, I have multiple material for when I start
- 19:01building more tracks. And that's helped me a lot.
- 19:06And there's even times where I pick up my phone like I could
- 19:08just be driving. And I have a beat in my head and
- 19:11I start hitting the record on that and I'll just mimic sounds
- 19:15like the beat and then try to play that with an instrument.
- 19:19So it's definitely, it forces me to have way more creativity.
- 19:24And then honestly, I love that Like a challenge.
- 19:29Yeah, that sounds challenge. I know sometimes I'll get to
- 19:33where I'll put, you know, but you were talking about going to
- 19:38Widows Creek Falls and and recording the waterfall, you
- 19:41know, and using those sounds of nature as part of the musical
- 19:46track that you're going to write.
- 19:48I've done similar stuff with some of my content where it's
- 19:50like I'm by the river and there's waterfalls, you know,
- 19:52babbling brooks, you know, things that give the ambient
- 19:56nature of the of the thing that you're trying to do.
- 19:59And then I'm like, I'm not a I'm not a musician by any means.
- 20:02But then it's like coming up with.
- 20:04All right, well, where do I want to put a drum beat?
- 20:07You know like looping that track or looping that piece of of of
- 20:12music or that beat to play through for for a duration.
- 20:17Like it's more than just you know and people may not realize,
- 20:20but like it's more than just coming up with that song.
- 20:24It's it's it's putting it all together in a format and and in
- 20:27a way that is appealing to the ears.
- 20:30You know, like, it's not just all like random shit.
- 20:36And I will tell you, one of my biggest faults is I tend to, I
- 20:42start with an instrument, right? Got this real.
- 20:44And then I'm like, next thing you know, I'm grabbing a mouth
- 20:47harp or something, I'm grabbing something different.
- 20:48And next thing I know I've got a whole cluster of instruments
- 20:52going off and I'm like, Oh yeah, this is too much.
- 20:55And heavens, Rent a Thunder is an example.
- 20:58I think I rerecorded that. Probably about 10 times before I
- 21:07had my liar down to where I was like OK.
- 21:10And I mean there was at one point where I I I had a skin
- 21:14drum going too. And then I threw in a rattle
- 21:17like, I mean I was throwing all this stuff in there.
- 21:21And then I set back and I started muting them in my
- 21:25recording doll and I was like, OK and then just listen to the
- 21:29liar, right? And now obviously wanted some
- 21:31ambience in the back. So I was playing that and then
- 21:35to me like after I'd done that I was like this is all I had to
- 21:38do. Like I was over analyzing and
- 21:41adding all of these things to it and it really just needed to be
- 21:44simple and sometimes simple and easier basic laid out.
- 21:50Like comes out a lot more meaningful and it and it and it
- 21:55grabs more attention and it was so funny cuz I just had to erase
- 21:59all the other tracks cuz I was like I can't.
- 22:01I can't do this. It's gonna be just.
- 22:02It's gonna ruin it. And then I found the voice that
- 22:05I wanted to do. And then with like that throat.
- 22:09Kind of like. That, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:13I'm probably gonna pass out on stage just so you know when I'm
- 22:16doing that. That's a tricky thing cuz it's
- 22:21like you're forcing it from your the throat's the canal that the
- 22:26sound's coming from, but the the the tone comes from way deeper
- 22:30than that. Yes, and and then it's like the
- 22:33breath. Man, it's like control, right?
- 22:35Yeah, and you know, I'm thankful for all the screaming I've done
- 22:40through my mental career to be able to show how long I can hold
- 22:44breaths, right? But it's a whole another element
- 22:49when I'm recording because I'm calm.
- 22:51I'm I'm at this level like I am with you right now, right when
- 22:54I'm doing those voices. Versus live, it's not the same.
- 23:00Yeah, your energy, your, your everything about you like you
- 23:04got adrenaline going and everything just completely
- 23:08changes to where it's like I know I'm not that short winded,
- 23:12like I know I can hit that and I know I can hold that, but like
- 23:15live it's a whole another thing man.
- 23:16And you know, but that's what practice is for and building it
- 23:20up and getting used to it. I was curious too with like with
- 23:25the Croom, Soggy, you know, you mentioned all of the songs that
- 23:28you had written for that album were for your family.
- 23:33And actually when you when you put that album together there,
- 23:36there's a track on there called Mid Guard Musings.
- 23:37I remember you wrote it for for, for, Yeah, for, for the channel,
- 23:42for the podcast. And it was.
- 23:44It was, it was. It's a great track and there's
- 23:46whenever I like at the end of for people that don't maybe
- 23:50know, right at the end of all of my episodes when it's like and
- 23:54the end screen credits and and stuff, there's a segment of a
- 23:58song that you wrote for me that hasn't been released yet
- 24:02anywhere other than just to me like it was given to me.
- 24:05And there's a segment of that song that I still plan to I want
- 24:11to do something. I want to I want to produce some
- 24:13sort of video content for that song.
- 24:15Cuz it's a great, It's a great track and I want the world to
- 24:17hear it. And it really captures the the
- 24:20dark, you know, the dark ambient nature that you've kind of
- 24:25gravitated to. So what I was wondering was when
- 24:29you wrote all the songs and who they were written for and the
- 24:32Chrome Saga is the EP. What's the word I'm looking for?
- 24:37Is it a themed EP or are there other things that you're writing
- 24:45in mind for? Yep.
- 24:47So man, I'm. I'm going through some very
- 24:53spiritual stuff with my Path and this album is going to reflect a
- 25:01good bit of that. And it's something that has
- 25:06always mean something to me, but it's definitely something that
- 25:12I'm ready to put out in the music form.
- 25:15So there will be a theme but as far as like individual, like how
- 25:18I done the last album. No, this one is more about and
- 25:22it's not necessarily about myself, it's more about me just
- 25:27being able to get this energy out that I'm ready to get out
- 25:30and the creativity, you know, I've already got a few tracks
- 25:35down and I'm just and I'm happy because as soon as I start
- 25:40writing, man, it is, it is hard to get me away from my my studio
- 25:44because once I start I mean. Next thing I know, it's like
- 25:473:00 AM and I'm like, I gotta get up a couple hours to go to
- 25:49work. So the creativity is, is is
- 25:53there, the energy's there. But yeah it's it's it's I will
- 25:57say this that like I said it will be darker, more ambient,
- 26:04very shawmatic if that makes sense.
- 26:06I like it when you when when you released the the Chrome sagas
- 26:12there. I I don't remember the time wise
- 26:15so maybe you can help me with that.
- 26:16You have at least a couple of songs that you filmed music
- 26:20videos for those those tracks, right?
- 26:25Wolves of Oden, I think, was one of them.
- 26:27Wolves of Oden was the very very first one and cuz I had rode a
- 26:35few tracks mid guard, museums being one of the very first few
- 26:39in that area and was of Oden was actually the very very very
- 26:44first track. That I sat down with and like I
- 26:46said, you can definitely get my vibe of the darker ambient in
- 26:49that track because that I knew that wanted to do that.
- 26:53But I also knew for the sake of where I was at as a whole and
- 26:56the musician I was at the time and writing for family, I didn't
- 27:00want all these kind of creepy sound of songs for all my my
- 27:03family, right? Right.
- 27:06But what was about, Yeah, you know it.
- 27:07And it was a song about about Tribe Man.
- 27:10And it was about, you know, we all go through.
- 27:14Experiences with friends and and and family through your life
- 27:18right where one minute your your best friend may no longer be
- 27:24your best friend. And that's basically what that
- 27:26zone was about unfortunately was about losing some close people
- 27:32in my life and change with time. And you know as as we grow
- 27:36older, we change and sometimes you find out that maybe.
- 27:41You need more positive people in your life, if that makes sense.
- 27:44Or maybe what what you used to do with people is not really
- 27:48your thing. No more.
- 27:49And that's in all aspects and and that's what that track was
- 27:53about, man. It was it was basically saying
- 27:55hey you know, like we'll always have that bond, but it doesn't
- 27:59necessarily mean that we we really need to be hanging out
- 28:02together all the time. And one of my friends was a
- 28:06sacrifice in the video. We're still good friends today.
- 28:09But you know, we. We did a sort of like a little
- 28:13of a blood Eagle singing only a minute.
- 28:15I'm a one man show. I had had someone picked out to
- 28:19do really extreme effects for that video.
- 28:22Just being a one man show, I couldn't afford it and I do hope
- 28:27the one day be able to do a full on blood eagle in a music video.
- 28:33But that happened and then you could definitely get the sense
- 28:37of what was happening in that video.
- 28:39You know, like the betrayal almost.
- 28:41You know, like. Exactly, exactly, yeah.
- 28:44That that lack lost of trust between people.
- 28:48And unfortunately, man, it happens, man.
- 28:51And you know, even myself, I've been through things just
- 28:54recently, even since that video has come out with close friends.
- 28:57You know you need us. It happens, man.
- 29:01And you just go forth and you do what you gotta do for you and
- 29:04your family. Absolutely.
- 29:08But then the. Yeah, then I had another video,
- 29:09which is my Vahalo. Yeah, that one was awesome with
- 29:13all of the Valkyries and the. And so much costume department
- 29:18was on point with that video. Dude, you guys nailed it so
- 29:23much. Or I would tell you of my entire
- 29:25career, all the music videos I've shot, that one is today.
- 29:31Still my most favorite one. Multiple days of filming.
- 29:36There's so much footage that couldn't even make it because
- 29:40like, I knew I wanted to make a a small movie, right?
- 29:43I knew that I wrote this script. I started calling friends asking
- 29:51them to be in it, what you could do.
- 29:52Boom. Like I actually had a movie
- 29:55director friend who was going to come down and unfortunately the
- 29:58day of the shoot he had a family emergency come up.
- 30:02And then I'm like. A panicking I've got like all
- 30:06these people coming out because it on that on that particular
- 30:09day was the battle scene and then my funeral, right.
- 30:14So we had two, two locations there at that day to be at and
- 30:20I'm like, I'm panicking, man. I got people driving from all
- 30:23over the state to come here to be in the video and one of my
- 30:27friends who who I hired to be the FX on the set.
- 30:32Also has helped me in the past. We've done some movie stuff
- 30:35together and I'm on the phone with her that morning and I'm
- 30:37like, yo, the director has dropped and she was like, okay,
- 30:42I'm gonna be there earlier, We're gonna get this.
- 30:44I need your script. So I was like, yes, ma'am, my
- 30:45God. And let's go.
- 30:47She's a great, great. She's one of my best friends,
- 30:49man. We've done a lot of stuff
- 30:50together, filming and stuff. And she got there early and I
- 30:55ran her through the script. I was like this is this is what
- 30:58we gotta do here? You know, it was like wrangling
- 31:01a bunch of cats, man. Like, you know, all these
- 31:03people. So these people's never met each
- 31:05other, but they're all excited, they're ready to be in the video
- 31:07and they know they're going to war, right?
- 31:09We got this whole battle scene plan by the end of the day, man.
- 31:13I probably took five years of my life off from the stress because
- 31:18we were, we were chasing time, you know, we shot in the winter,
- 31:22so. Daylight.
- 31:23Yeah, we. Were chasing daylight and you
- 31:26can kind of see which it worked out perfectly.
- 31:29When we do the funeral fire, because the light was coming
- 31:32down, so then the actual fire looked beautiful.
- 31:36It came out great. But that that song is very
- 31:39special and I've been asked a few times that I was going to
- 31:42play it live and the answer is no, I don't want to play that
- 31:45one live. I wrote that song for one
- 31:48reason, and that song is for all three of my children that that
- 31:53is a song for them. To let them know that there's
- 31:57going to be a day where they got to tell me goodbye, right?
- 31:59And they got to tell me goodbye forever.
- 32:02And that song is just letting them know that I love them.
- 32:05And then I dedicated my life to them and I don't want them to
- 32:09ever forget me, but also know that I'm always going to be with
- 32:12them and I'm always going to look after them, even in even
- 32:15after death. And so it means a lot to me.
- 32:18It was more out of the all the tracks, they all mean something
- 32:21to me, but that one meant the most because I knew at any
- 32:25moment. You know, I could be took away
- 32:27from this world and I want to leave something behind that they
- 32:30have and I want them to know that dad loved them so.
- 32:34So even though the song comes off very like very, you know,
- 32:39pretty sounding and melodic, it's on the other side.
- 32:43It is then also has a little bit of a morbid side to it, because
- 32:46you see me go to war, you see me lose, like you see there's a
- 32:52moment and one of my favorite parts.
- 32:55Well, me and my friend are at the battle, you know, And you
- 32:58see like him knock the thing out of my hand, my sword and I go
- 33:01from my axe and I just take a breath.
- 33:04You can see I'm tired. And you can also see him like
- 33:07looking at me like damn, I can't defeat this guy once it take to
- 33:12take him down. But you see my moment of I'm
- 33:15tired, right. And that it just the way that we
- 33:20with the cameraman caught that. I mean, we know that part
- 33:23probably 10 times. And as we were going through the
- 33:27footage, I was like, this is perfect.
- 33:29That's what I wanted to get that image out.
- 33:32I wanted to show him that I'm tired and it was time for me to
- 33:36be took down. But my favorite part of writing
- 33:39it was you see him obviously slit my throat, which again, we
- 33:44was on time. We had a whole thing set up.
- 33:46We're just going to see blood come out of my throat.
- 33:48Didn't get to do it right. So it was one of those insane
- 33:49like cut screens. Bam, I'm down.
- 33:52And you see my 2 berserkers walk up and just flew like from
- 33:55behind and they just like take him out.
- 33:57So where he's like I got victory, we wipe him out, man.
- 34:01Yeah, yeah. And we captured the remaining
- 34:04members of the army and that's where we go to the funeral
- 34:08power. And then my favorite part there
- 34:10is, you see, I have my two sons in that scene actually.
- 34:14And if you notice, I'm wearing a cloak in the beginning of the
- 34:17war. At the funeral, my oldest son is
- 34:20wearing my cloak and he's got my sword.
- 34:23He is now roamed and he, he gives the signal to execute them
- 34:29And and my poor son was sick that day, man.
- 34:31But he had so much fun just being able to like I get to be
- 34:34king now. I'm like, yeah, you're thinking
- 34:36right, that's it. And, you know, send the signal
- 34:41out and then boom, we execute the whole.
- 34:45The whole thing, it was like 3 members.
- 34:47And then we decapitated the one and then we gave him the
- 34:51ultimate shame by shoving his head up his ass.
- 34:54So yeah, it was a lot to it, man.
- 34:57The thing at the very end, like you said, the Valkyries Dr.
- 35:01this, That was a whole other day of shooting too.
- 35:05Actually, one of those Valkyries is the lady that helped me with
- 35:08the FX and the directing. She was one of the Valkyries
- 35:10too. She said she'd done all the
- 35:11makeups. But she we got there and there's
- 35:16another cold day. Like, I'm on this ground wet
- 35:18several times. But we we shot right back in the
- 35:20scene where I was killed. We.
- 35:23And then you see me like out of my war gear and I'm looking
- 35:27clean. And then that's them picking me
- 35:29up basically. And I'm looking around like I'm
- 35:33trying to figure it out. But then we walk up to the light
- 35:37and that, you know, is them taking me to Valhalla.
- 35:39And then what? You see me in the very end clip
- 35:42and unfortunately it didn't come out.
- 35:44Quite as clear. But I'm standing in the middle
- 35:46of a waterfall playing my drum and we've got like a little bit
- 35:49of the gold essence around and the scene, and that's me showing
- 35:53that I'm at peace, you know that I've made it and I'm happy.
- 35:58And that's just something again that goes towards my kids is I
- 36:00want them to know that even when that day comes, not to worry
- 36:05about me. You know that I did my life's
- 36:08duty and I'm sure I'll be happy there.
- 36:11It's a beautiful tale you know to to tell.
- 36:14Cuz and it's real, you know what I mean?
- 36:16Like the the theatrics, the the the theater aspect of it makes
- 36:22it really interesting and captivating for an audience.
- 36:24But the the subject matter, you know is is very real and it's it
- 36:29touches all of us cuz you know the day of our doom is set and
- 36:34none can escape it, right? You know, but fear not death.
- 36:37Exactly. And that's and so that's the
- 36:40doom man. And.
- 36:42Yeah, because you never know. Life is life.
- 36:46Life doesn't have a date on it, but it certainly has an
- 36:48expiration date. You just don't know when.
- 36:51Yeah. And so that was the, that was
- 36:52the point of that whole album, man.
- 36:54That was that that particular zone.
- 36:56Like said, why it means so much to me and why I've chose to not
- 37:00add it to my live set list is because it just has a meaning
- 37:03that I want it to be there. I want my children to know it's
- 37:07there. You know, I don't ever see.
- 37:10YouTube or streaming sites going away.
- 37:13Not to mention they will have an actual physical copy.
- 37:17So yeah, yeah, it's a legacy, yeah, so but yeah, that one.
- 37:21But again, just shooting wise, outside of the meaning of it,
- 37:26the filming was just extraordinary fun man.
- 37:29I really from all my past videos and helping other bands do music
- 37:33videos. You know, this was my one one
- 37:36video where I really wanted to step it off and I really wanted
- 37:40to to go out-of-the-box a lot. And I wanted to build again.
- 37:44Like, I wanted to build a mini movie about it.
- 37:46And and I'm very, very satisfied.
- 37:49You know, some people were like, man, this thing's like 12
- 37:51minutes long, but I'm like, it's a movie.
- 37:54So it's more. Yeah, I mean considering the
- 37:56fact like you know, a track, you know, a musical track is, is
- 38:00that that's that's long for your average.
- 38:03Song considering like 3 to 5 minutes is like an average I
- 38:07think length of a studio release.
- 38:11But having that story cuz I think now you have this tale
- 38:16that's being told and then there's people can imagine it in
- 38:20their mind's eye by listening to the song.
- 38:21But then they have this thing that can paint that picture more
- 38:25vividly and give them something to really latch onto visually.
- 38:30But still kind of be creative in their own way and and where it
- 38:33touches them, cuz and that's the beauty of art and music anyway,
- 38:36you know, like you wrote it for a very specific with a very
- 38:40specific purpose in mind. And you know, other people that
- 38:43hear it can maybe find find their own purpose in it too.
- 38:47Right. You know and.
- 38:50It's it's had great reviews. It's had a good bit of viewings.
- 38:55YouTube's being a complicated at the moment.
- 38:58For some reason with my my stuff, they stopped some
- 39:03comments from happening on that video and and it was, and it
- 39:06really bites because I was having a lot of fun because it
- 39:09it obviously was going around the world and I was able to
- 39:14communicate with people. All over the world.
- 39:17And they were leaving me comments.
- 39:18You know, obviously you got your negative people.
- 39:20We're always gonna like you think you're a Viking.
- 39:24But you know. Like, well, don't, but OK, but
- 39:28you don't know me, so whatever. But but the people that were
- 39:32enjoying it in different languages, I was able to, you
- 39:34know, translate it and then and then speak back to them and just
- 39:37let them know how much I appreciated and taking the time
- 39:40to even watch it, you know? Because I don't know what's
- 39:43going on with my YouTube. I mean, you can still comment on
- 39:45it, but it's just weird like it's I I don't know in the
- 39:48views, but I know the views. The last time I looked, I think
- 39:51we're closing in closed about 10,000 views on it.
- 39:54So yeah, you know, it's not the biggest views I have actually
- 39:59was of Odin, not the music video, but the album track
- 40:04itself. It was closing in I think 88 or
- 40:0890,000 views, so. Seeing that I didn't even know
- 40:13it, man, I just one day I just logged in and I was like, wait a
- 40:16minute. That's the Did you know that?
- 40:18And I was gonna mention this too.
- 40:19Did you know that? So Don Haim used to have this 24
- 40:24hour radio on YouTube where it was all like Viking related
- 40:29music, Norse folk music, right. He had to shut that down.
- 40:34Yeah. And but there's another one.
- 40:37Like I forget the name of it. It starts with like hooknogger
- 40:40or hook, something like that. Know who you're talking about.
- 40:42You know what I'm talking about, right?
- 40:44I've heard some of your music on that.
- 40:47Yup. And I'm like, hey, I know that
- 40:49song and I know that guy. And hey, yeah dude, yeah, it
- 40:53made me. I was like, I was saying I was a
- 40:56fan of the channel and to hear my music on it, like same thing.
- 41:02It was just like. Wow.
- 41:04Do you have anything to do with that?
- 41:06So we did have a conversation. We did talk and and he asked
- 41:11permission and I was like, yeah, sure.
- 41:14Like, I didn't know how that stuff works.
- 41:15You know what I was like? And then in my mind I'm like, is
- 41:18this really gonna happen? You know what I'm saying?
- 41:20Like, like, OK and then boom, it happened.
- 41:23Like I've gotten notification. And then there was people that
- 41:27have found me because of listening to his channel.
- 41:30So I'm always grateful for that man and he definitely he put me
- 41:35out there and to be amongst other bands that inspire me,
- 41:40it's an honor. Yeah, cuz I mean like Don Heim
- 41:43plays on there, Wardruna, Highland, Ayola.
- 41:47I mean there's so many people that are doing things like what
- 41:52you do, right? The kind of the solo artist that
- 41:55produces, mixes masters records, does everything themselves, and
- 42:00being in that company's got to be pretty rewarding, I would
- 42:03say, dude, it's I love it, man. And that Channel runs 24/7.
- 42:07It was at Finn. I'm gonna mispronounce it.
- 42:10I better not even try. But Fimple radio was done.
- 42:13Was was, was, was, was Michael's, was it Michael and
- 42:16Mark? Mike.
- 42:17Yeah. Mike Schaffer, right.
- 42:20He was the one that was doing the fimple radio.
- 42:23Yeah. And then that got shut down and
- 42:26which we've got the other thing now, but still it's like.
- 42:31I heard that one day and I'm like, damn, that's cool, man.
- 42:33Zeb stuff is on the radio or on the Internet, you know, like
- 42:35playing on a station that runs 24 hours.
- 42:38It runs 24 hours, man. And a lot of time when I'm at
- 42:41work and I'm in my office, that's playing on one of my
- 42:44monitors, right? Because.
- 42:46And it always makes me excited when I hear it, cuz I'm just
- 42:49like, I was like, got like little butterflies, man.
- 42:51I'm all happy. Yeah.
- 42:54Yeah. Do you have any?
- 42:56So you're talking about live performances, right?
- 42:58Initially when you came with into Scogomore, it was you
- 43:03didn't go into it thinking that it was ever gonna have a fan
- 43:05base, like you mentioned that earlier, like you were not doing
- 43:08live shows and now here you are. I think you've got a live show
- 43:11coming up next month, that's correct.
- 43:16Yeah, I've got a few shows lined up already into March as well.
- 43:24I've had a couple others, but because of my move, I obviously
- 43:28couldn't take them on and I really wanted to.
- 43:30But I also knew that like, hey, I'm not going to be able to give
- 43:32you the best performance. So therefore I said no to those.
- 43:36But the, the one upcoming is October 28th, it's called the
- 43:39Brown Mountain Light Festival. I will be there doing some
- 43:44vending as well because you know, I craft as well and I make
- 43:47beard products and it's another way for me to get my music
- 43:50heard. So I do vending events and
- 43:54they're going to be there, vending and I'm amongst a lot of
- 43:57bands, man. It's a great lineup, obviously
- 44:00the only one of my style home it so, but I there is actually some
- 44:05heavy metal bands and there's actually a heavy metal band on
- 44:08there that I'm playing next to who are amazing and they're
- 44:12really, really close friends of mine.
- 44:14So shout out to Angel Massacre if you're listeners and you're a
- 44:19big fan of black metal check those guys out.
- 44:22They're amazing live they they put on the hell of a show, man.
- 44:25So I'm honored to get to be reunited with some friends from
- 44:28my medal days. So I'm looking forward to this
- 44:31and it this show man is a so it's like a festival and it's a
- 44:35downtown area of the town of Morganton.
- 44:39So it's like one of the like little amphitheater setups that
- 44:43I get to perform on that stage. So it's going to be loud.
- 44:47I'm bringing, I'm bringing the darkness man.
- 44:50I'm bringing the fog man. I'm bringing all kinds of stuff.
- 44:53I'm geared up for it and I'm ready and I can't wait.
- 44:57I'm curious though, cuz I'm not gonna be able to make the show,
- 44:59but are you gonna be like, will there be any filming of the show
- 45:03going on? Cuz I mean, I'm just picturing
- 45:05the music that I listen to that you make is it's done in a
- 45:09studio. You're putting all of these,
- 45:11you're piercing all of these things together to make the
- 45:14music, and then now you're going and you're gonna be a live
- 45:17performer. How does that how is that gonna
- 45:20work? Like, how are you gonna play?
- 45:23Like I've heard of the one man band where you got like a drum
- 45:26and then a harmonica and it was hard like.
- 45:29Shaking his head and there's like a cowbell up on the top of
- 45:31his head. Like, no.
- 45:33So I wish I could do that, man. Those guys would do that.
- 45:37It's got some talent, man, right.
- 45:40No, man. So a lot of it is I have to zone
- 45:44in and you know, I've had to create backing tracks.
- 45:46And no, there's this whole thing I've been seeing people's like,
- 45:49go backing tracks. So look, when you're one person
- 45:51writing multiple instruments, how the hell else are you
- 45:54supposed to play live, right, without a backing track?
- 45:56You can't. It's impossible.
- 45:58Or I would have to hire musicians, right To come in and
- 46:02play with me. But then that defeats me being
- 46:04solo. So backing tracks is my friend,
- 46:09which you know, I've made backing tracks for all the songs
- 46:11I'm performing live and you know I have it where what instrument
- 46:15sticks out the most per track? That's the instrument that I'm
- 46:19playing at that time. And there is a track or two
- 46:22where I switch instruments as well during the set.
- 46:26So it's all it's all right here in front of me.
- 46:29I can able to get to my instruments like stands grab it,
- 46:32go. So a lot of wires is hooked up.
- 46:35So I got to be careful on that trip on stuff.
- 46:38Yeah. But yeah man, it's that's you
- 46:41know, to me again, you know, like when it comes down to, you
- 46:44know, like the Tarhapa, right, that Tarhapa's got to be played,
- 46:46man, I can't have that as a backing track, right.
- 46:48I got to get up there and play it and a friend of mine does
- 46:52amazing leather work and they're actually making me a really
- 46:55custom cool strap because you can't just go to Guitar Center
- 46:58and get a Tarhapa strap. But yeah, so that is the
- 47:05challenging part, man. Is a good thing about it,
- 47:08though. And you know, it's kind of like
- 47:10like click tracks when you're playing in bands.
- 47:14I got that track to keep me in time, right?
- 47:16I'm not relying on a bunch of guys hanging around me.
- 47:19It's me in that track and I've got to play to that track and
- 47:22that track never misses time, right?
- 47:23Because yeah, it's programmed to not miss time.
- 47:27So but yeah that's how it goes down.
- 47:29I wish I say it was as cool as putting a bunch of instruments
- 47:31around my legs and my feet and my toes.
- 47:33But now man, it's it's it it comes down to playing one
- 47:36instrument at a time and and you know at the level now where I'm
- 47:42expanded to being a multiple instrumentalist.
- 47:44It's the hard part really. Honestly is choosing my favorite
- 47:49instrument and which one I want to play the most.
- 47:51And and again, I just have to listen to the track and say,
- 47:54hey, all right, well now the skin drum sticks out the most in
- 47:57those ones, so that's the one I'm gonna play.
- 47:59Do you have a favorite instrument?
- 48:01Like if you had to pick one with Skoga Moore that you know this
- 48:06this iteration of Skoga Moore? You're like the dark ambient
- 48:08focus, the shamanic side of the music.
- 48:11Is there a particular instrument that you just are more like you
- 48:15enjoy playing more than another, or is it the band?
- 48:19It's hard, man. I love them, you know, I love
- 48:21them all. I would definitely My favorite,
- 48:25and I'll tell you because it is the most challenging, is the tar
- 48:28hopper, Man. I've definitely came a long way
- 48:32from the beginning, but I'm still not where I want to be
- 48:35with that instrument. You know, as far as playing the
- 48:39skin drum or the rattle, even playing the mouth harp today.
- 48:42And I also played traditional flute cat tar hop.
- 48:46A man is probably my favorite man.
- 48:48This the sounds that you can make on that and I, which I have
- 48:51two of them now but the sound of just just the dreadful tones
- 48:57that you can get out of it but also beautiful tones out of it
- 49:01definitely. Probably I'd have to say it's my
- 49:04favorite and and again because it's also the hardest one that
- 49:07I've had the challenge, the most challenge out of.
- 49:10I can see that because to me it's almost like a.
- 49:14Like when you hear a violin right?
- 49:18It can it can be the most or bagpipes, you know?
- 49:21Yeah, they can be the most beautiful, captivating sounding
- 49:24instruments in skilled hands. And then if you don't know what
- 49:28the heck you're doing, they sound God awful.
- 49:31It sounds like cats dying or geese getting stepped on.
- 49:34Or, and that was I was very fortunate at a young age being
- 49:37exposed to violin or I might as well say fiddle.
- 49:42My father was a bluegrass individual, so I used to go to a
- 49:46bunch of bluegrass festivals with him and I picked up the
- 49:50fiddle and one of his old friends used to teach me how to
- 49:53play it right. And actually my high school
- 49:57senior project was me spending the year learning how to tackle
- 50:01the fiddle and then performing it for my my project.
- 50:06So I was very fortunate to have a little bit of background and
- 50:08by no means am I sitting here telling you that I'm amazing
- 50:11violinist. Because I am not, but I could
- 50:13definitely make some tones and make some tunes, but I don't
- 50:16remember half of anything that I used to on it.
- 50:20And it it is treated tohapa is very similar in the fact that
- 50:24you have the the bow right. You've got to bow these streams,
- 50:28but the difference is there isn't a fret, it's open and it's
- 50:32the pressure of the pads on your tips and then the back of your
- 50:36finger. Like that's what works, the
- 50:38tones. And you've got to, you sort of
- 50:40got to imagine right that there's a fret board there if
- 50:43you use the fret board on every other instrument that you're
- 50:45used to playing, but it don't have that.
- 50:48It's literally just touching that string and applying the
- 50:52right pressure and that way making sure you got the right
- 50:55rhythm with that bow. Interesting.
- 51:00So I had a question too about the musical style of Skodamore
- 51:05and how it's evolved into where you're going with it, you're
- 51:08located. In, in, in, in an area of the
- 51:12country, in an area of the world that is one of the oldest, if
- 51:17not the oldest, spits of land, pieces of land, Mountain ranges,
- 51:22right, that are in existence. The Appalachia mountain ranges
- 51:27are millions of years older than even the Rockies, you know what
- 51:31I mean? And there's a lot of rich
- 51:34history in Appalachia. Folk music being one of them,
- 51:39you know, and I was curious has has the like, has the, the, the
- 51:49history and the tradition of Appalachia been been something
- 51:53that has guided you along your musical evolution with
- 51:59Skogamore? You know like it's Nordic folk
- 52:02music. Like, we know that like at the
- 52:04the Valhalla levels of voting. I mean like.
- 52:06Clearly it's a Nordic theme sort of thing, but I was just
- 52:09curious, has Appalachia been infused or given some of its
- 52:16magic to your musical process at all?
- 52:21Absolutely. Being here is, you know, I lived
- 52:28once in Appalachia and now I'd have been moved on the
- 52:30outskirts. So getting to come back to this.
- 52:36There's so much magic here, man. There's so much in the air.
- 52:40There's so much spirit here. And that's the other reason why
- 52:44I think recently why my creativity has just went into
- 52:49OverDrive, man. And I spend a lot of time, you
- 52:52know, on my property and I'm near beautiful land that I can
- 52:57go visit at any point. Today I merged before we got on
- 53:00this call. I merged myself into one of the
- 53:02creeks and I've made that a thing to do every week as much
- 53:09as I can throughout the week. You know, there's not a week
- 53:11that I'm going to miss it. You know, I might only have one
- 53:13time that week that I did it, but for instance, this, this,
- 53:16since Friday I've done stuff in, you know, with nature, but this,
- 53:21this, the Appalachian is just beautiful man.
- 53:23And so much history here, so much spirituality that this
- 53:30sings amongs, these these forests and these mountains and
- 53:32these waterfalls. So absolutely, I definitely see
- 53:36a huge influence going for this new EP.
- 53:40And I am looking for and I've been, it's been in the back of
- 53:43my mind to find a way to give a piece of it of respect within at
- 53:49least one of my tracks so that it sticks out.
- 53:51And you know, the one I talked about, Widow Creeks Falls.
- 53:54That's definitely one of them. But I definitely want more than
- 53:56just that one. Yeah, I mean, I feel like that's
- 54:00almost a given now because. You know, like you say as as
- 54:04much as you're immersed into the to the with the with the land,
- 54:09as much as you spend time your, you know, your property is is
- 54:14etched into the side of of a mountain.
- 54:16You know you're going to say and it's like you're, you're you're
- 54:19part of that body now, you know what I mean?
- 54:21So it's almost, to me, it would almost be like, well, duh, of
- 54:25course it's going to have an impact, you know, and an
- 54:28influence on things. And I know what you mean about
- 54:30that, that. That area just being such a a
- 54:34vibrant energy. I've I've been there a couple of
- 54:39times, I've been just right up the road, you know, if y'all
- 54:42have, it's here workshop. You guys are in respect you know
- 54:46close to one another and I've been there some you know several
- 54:50times and we're coming back. Our people here in Tennessee are
- 54:54coming back right there and some of us, some of the, some of the
- 54:57people that are coming with us are, you know, this is their
- 54:59first time. Right.
- 55:00And I'm so excited for that because I know what's there and
- 55:06I know what it feels like. And I'm just like, wait till you
- 55:08guys get here and experience what's available, you know what
- 55:14I mean? Like you just, I feel like you
- 55:17have to be like checked out of life entirely to go there and
- 55:21not feel anything and leave and feel the same as you did before
- 55:25you got there. You have to be just.
- 55:28Mentally and everything else just like checked out of life to
- 55:31not feel what's going on there. I had some friends come up this
- 55:35weekend and there's like a last minute let's run in and can we
- 55:39hang out? Like, yeah, come on up and
- 55:42that's what I did in Mass but this weekend showing them some
- 55:44falls. Showing them the mountain peaks
- 55:46and they and my favorite part is just them just you know it
- 55:52taking pictures and I took him up on the Parkway the first
- 55:55night they got here. Like they got here in about an
- 55:57hour later we drove up on the Parkway and I showed him the
- 55:59stars and I was like I promise you you've never seen the stars
- 56:02as bright as you will see right here in this area.
- 56:05And they were just so happy you know and and seeing the star and
- 56:09they were just the piece that people get from it.
- 56:12And I'm with you. Like, for you to not for someone
- 56:15to never experience it and then get there to experience and just
- 56:17like, OK, cool. Whatever.
- 56:20What's wrong with you? Yeah, what's wrong with you,
- 56:24man? Right.
- 56:25Right. I mean, it's an honor that I
- 56:28have the privilege of seeing it daily.
- 56:30And that is something that I don't take for granted, man.
- 56:32I love it and I cherish it and I respect it.
- 56:36And I can't wait for you and your tribe to come down and
- 56:41spend that time with us. I'm looking forward to it.
- 56:44I would like to. I would like to just put this
- 56:46out into the universe. I put this out into the.
- 56:49And and and speak it into existence.
- 56:51I hope that while we are there that you know for for the Fire
- 56:57on the mountain thing and I'm not, I'm not going to go into a
- 56:59lot of details about it. I've mentioned it enough to say
- 57:01that it's a private closed off sort of thing.
- 57:03It's an invite only people know about it.
- 57:06But that's about all there's going to be to to that extent.
- 57:09I hope that when we are there that we get a chance to hear
- 57:13some else over more stuff in person, yes.
- 57:19Bring the toggle heart, bring the lie, Bring bring all of the
- 57:22things and let's feel that spirit.
- 57:29I would just like to say that much, Absolutely.
- 57:32And it was something that I already was planning on, so we
- 57:35would definitely have it. Yeah.
- 57:38Same thing for my social media. I've also had announced this was
- 57:41a private class shared. I served a flyer and then
- 57:44everyone instantly. Where's this?
- 57:47Where are we gonna do this? And I'm like.
- 57:48Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a very private invitation
- 57:51only We don't know what the future holds.
- 57:52You never know how much more it's gonna expand.
- 57:55But definitely, like I said later on, something we can get
- 57:58into. So the last thing I wanted to
- 58:01ask you about too, cuz I wanna be respectful of your time on
- 58:05today's show and is with the EP and you mentioned.
- 58:12Some setbacks with its release and you're thinking of it maybe
- 58:15being released by the end of this year.
- 58:18That's the hope. That's the goal, right?
- 58:19And knowing how things are gonna go, does that mean that you have
- 58:23all of the material written that you want on the EP?
- 58:26Or could there be things that happen between now and, let's
- 58:31say, November, or whenever that could make?
- 58:37Make its way onto the EP or or or have you got all of your
- 58:40stuff tracked out and ready to go?
- 58:42It's just a matter of putting it all together.
- 58:43It's it's very, very unique. You asked that because no, I do
- 58:48not have all the tracks done. And I've had an idea of
- 58:52something when we're all together and that may happen.
- 58:58And yeah, so yeah, I think we're on the same brain waves right
- 59:02there. I feel like that what you're
- 59:05asking is something that I'm already was thinking you come
- 59:09together, but no, all the tracks are not finished.
- 59:12There's still a few tracks that I've got to put more time and
- 59:16actually get to a creative part of them.
- 59:19Yeah. And I think that's good to as an
- 59:23artist and as a musician and as a performer, right?
- 59:28I think. I'm not that, but I am somebody
- 59:32who creates content and has a sense of an obligation to put
- 59:37things out on a specific cadence on certain topics, right?
- 59:44This, that thing and the other. And then I'm also for me in this
- 59:49place where I'm like, but I'm not gonna force it to happen.
- 59:53Right before you came on here, I was telling people like this
- 59:57episode. This week's episode that we're
- 1:00:01recording right now was not planned in advance.
- 1:00:05I had something else planned that I was gonna talk about
- 1:00:08tonight. And then you hit me up and we're
- 1:00:09like, I would love to talk about Skoga more and the things that
- 1:00:15we've talked about tonight. And then I'm like, So what are
- 1:00:19you doing later? Not that we're shooting from the
- 1:00:22hip out here, but that we're being so sensitive.
- 1:00:26To. The flow of things that
- 1:00:29sometimes what I had. Framework of a basic idea of
- 1:00:38what we wanna do can sometimes be shifted and readjusted for
- 1:00:42something else that needs to happen that that's maybe of more
- 1:00:45importance or more priority. So basically what I'm saying is
- 1:00:32the things that we have plans for a.
- 1:00:46And so to let things happen organically and naturally, I
- 1:00:50guess is the point. Don't let this over.
- 1:00:56This overarching feeling of I've got to have this out by the end
- 1:00:59of the year. I've got to have this out by the
- 1:01:01by, you know, I've got to talk about this topic or whatever it
- 1:01:03might be. You know, don't let that be the
- 1:01:05thing that drives us to do it. I think, I think that if we do
- 1:01:10and if we lean towards that that we're going to see the the, the
- 1:01:14quality and and the spirit behind things.
- 1:01:16Take a hit. You're a. 100%, right, 100%
- 1:01:21right. And you know, I don't want that
- 1:01:24from this album, this album. I want every album I create to
- 1:01:27be meaningful and yeah, whatever direction it continues to drive
- 1:01:33the the, you know, the universal drive it.
- 1:01:35Right. But I'm 100% with you.
- 1:01:38He's like, yeah, I originally, I, you know, I had my goal set
- 1:01:42and then I missed it, right. But I'm in no rush because you
- 1:01:45know, I could it might be spring and next year before I'm
- 1:01:49finished. But I want to make sure that you
- 1:01:52know not only for myself, but for.
- 1:01:55For the fan base as well, I want to make sure I'm delivering the
- 1:01:57best of my capabilities and I want to continue creating stuff
- 1:02:03that that people can relate to and enjoy themselves much much
- 1:02:08like yourself. I know you're the same way.
- 1:02:10You know, you want to keep on the same same pace.
- 1:02:12And yeah, definitely rushing it. And it was funny because, you
- 1:02:15know, I was just like, I was just like, what Jesse's out to,
- 1:02:17you know? And I hit you up and then you're
- 1:02:19like, tonight. And I'm like, Yup, I can do
- 1:02:22tonight. And, you know, I'll have.
- 1:02:23Because I was doing some foraging through the forest and
- 1:02:25I was like, yeah man, let's do it.
- 1:02:27Let's do it tonight. Yeah, Worked out well, yeah.
- 1:02:30Completely unplanned. Yeah.
- 1:02:32And that's just what I'm saying. Like, here's the case in point
- 1:02:35for everybody listens and watches.
- 1:02:36It's there's a method to the madness a lot of times.
- 1:02:42And a lot of the other times it's just like, well, let's just
- 1:02:45see how it goes. Right.
- 1:02:46You know what I mean? Like I don't have stuff booked
- 1:02:48out months in advance like a lot of other.
- 1:02:51Podcasters or content creators do.
- 1:02:53I'm not saying that that's wrong or that I shouldn't, or you know
- 1:02:56that. You know, it just doesn't.
- 1:02:58That's not where I'm at with it right now.
- 1:03:00I don't have things in a backlog that just need to be put out,
- 1:03:02and I also don't have a crap ton of content that is just sitting
- 1:03:07waiting to be released. It's, you know, life.
- 1:03:12Life, of course, happens to, you know, like things that pop up
- 1:03:15that are are moral obligations are social obligations that take
- 1:03:20precedence over. Some of these other things that
- 1:03:22while are entertaining and enjoyable for the audience that
- 1:03:27we want to reach, sometimes that just doesn't take the that's not
- 1:03:31the most important thing at the moment, you know.
- 1:03:33And I think that the people that are invested into the things
- 1:03:37that we do understand and appreciate that you know, like
- 1:03:39they they want what's going to be the best quality that we can
- 1:03:43produce, you know what I mean? And they don't want to be just
- 1:03:46given something for the sake of being given something.
- 1:03:50Exactly. Right.
- 1:03:51I want to, Yeah. I want to.
- 1:03:53I want to give the best of my abilities and the best quality I
- 1:03:56can do. And rushing it.
- 1:03:58You don't do that. Yeah.
- 1:04:01And I and I feel like some of my, you know, and I will say
- 1:04:03some of my first album, I do feel like I rush some things,
- 1:04:06man, because I was so anxious. I was so excited to to have this
- 1:04:10out there. And I do feel like they're, you
- 1:04:13know, like, again, I'm an artist.
- 1:04:15So I criticize myself and then I listen to some things and I'm
- 1:04:18like, I should have done that better.
- 1:04:20So that that that was a lesson learned that I that I don't want
- 1:04:24to do, you know, on this album I want to make sure that that
- 1:04:28everything is there, everything lines up the way it needs to and
- 1:04:31when the time is right, that EP will come out.
- 1:04:34Yeah. You know and I know that and and
- 1:04:37and I'm going to be very vague, but I know from some of the
- 1:04:42things you've told me the last time we met in person, just it
- 1:04:45was a month or two ago. I know that you know some of the
- 1:04:49things that. You've that you've experienced,
- 1:04:53you talked earlier on the show about your spirituality and your
- 1:04:57growth and your path, right. I know for a fact that some of
- 1:05:00the things that you experienced that you talked to me about are
- 1:05:03absolutely the reason why you've taken this angle and why you're
- 1:05:08able to see it in this way now. Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:05:13And I'll leave it at that. I just I know that I mean kind
- 1:05:16recognizes kind so. Right, right.
- 1:05:19I get it there. And I'm there with you, man.
- 1:05:21Like, I know what you're talking about.
- 1:05:23And so it's beautiful to see that that that's that's a
- 1:05:27universal lesson. Right.
- 1:05:29You know what I mean? It doesn't have to be.
- 1:05:32I'm not a I'm not an artist, a musician in the, you know,
- 1:05:35you're not a podcaster and and the next person's not a
- 1:05:37blacksmith or or iron Smith or bone Carver or a drum maker or
- 1:05:43whatever, right? Everybody does their own thing.
- 1:05:46The universal language that. These lessons of life can teach
- 1:05:50us is don't force it. Don't.
- 1:05:54Force it happen. Just let it happen.
- 1:05:56Let the universe speak to you the way it needs to speak to
- 1:06:00you. And just be there for it, be
- 1:06:02present for it, be active with it.
- 1:06:06And once we become part of that design, once we realize, I think
- 1:06:12that we're not just here to. And it it's not for us to just
- 1:06:16wait for things to go by and just miss it.
- 1:06:19It's for us to kind of latch on to this and and be a part of the
- 1:06:23experience, you know, and experience it in our own
- 1:06:27separate ways and our own individual ways.
- 1:06:28But then also have this collective experience, this
- 1:06:31convergence that takes place, you know, and it and it just
- 1:06:36resonates so, so vibrantly for, for, for people, you know, like
- 1:06:41I'm here, you're there. But we understand.
- 1:06:44Each other to that degree. And that's that universal
- 1:06:48language, that network that speaks.
- 1:06:50And miles distance is irrelevant cuz we're connected in that way.
- 1:06:58There's a connection that whether you try to or not,
- 1:07:00whether you realize you have or not, you're part of it now.
- 1:07:04Exactly. And that's I've said before,
- 1:07:09even you and I, our friendship, how we met.
- 1:07:15And how we've always stayed in touch throughout that part of
- 1:07:20our life through that journey and to where we're sitting at
- 1:07:23today and just how, you know, like you said, how connected we
- 1:07:28are now and understand each other more on a different level
- 1:07:33now than we did when we first met, you know, and I, I always
- 1:07:37look forward to chats with you or seeing you in person and.
- 1:07:41You know and you know, sharing our content also very proud of
- 1:07:46you hitting that big goal you just hit with the subscribers.
- 1:07:50Congratulations, Sir. Thank you.
- 1:07:52Thank you. Watching you, you know, watching
- 1:07:55you grow as well and prosper man, it's it's awesome man to
- 1:07:59see that for you as well. And again I do believe that is a
- 1:08:02universe that's been working with you and speaking to you, I
- 1:08:05know from the beginning seeing mid garden museums from the
- 1:08:08very, very early days. And seeing where you're at now,
- 1:08:11man. So that is definitely the
- 1:08:15universe has been there with you and it spoke to you and it's got
- 1:08:18you where you need to be. I appreciate that, man.
- 1:08:21Yeah, it's been a wild ride and it continues to be a wild ride
- 1:08:24and. You.
- 1:08:25Hit some nerves early where you're like, I don't get the
- 1:08:28YouTube thing, I'm like, boy howdy man, I don't get YouTube
- 1:08:32half time either. The one time where the
- 1:08:34algorithm's like, do this and you'll be all right, cool doing
- 1:08:37it. And then 12 hours later.
- 1:08:40Just kidding. I'm like you, motherfucker.
- 1:08:48I had a thing going on here, man, because I listened to your
- 1:08:50dumb ass. But hey.
- 1:08:51Right musical side. Been there too, man.
- 1:08:55Been there too. I've done my dealt with
- 1:08:58streaming. And yeah, and I was actually
- 1:09:02laughing and not laughing in a negative way, but just a few
- 1:09:07weeks ago, so I haven't checked any.
- 1:09:10Of my royalties from Skoga Miller.
- 1:09:14And for the first time the other day, I was just like, oh, what
- 1:09:17is there like $20? Cuz you know, it's like it's
- 1:09:21decimals on the sink, right? Yeah.
- 1:09:23Right. And I checked and actually had a
- 1:09:32good check in there and it was like, hey, you can cash this out
- 1:09:35and I was like. It ain't even pennies on the
- 1:09:25dollar. It's fractions of a penny.
- 1:09:37My account? There's no way.
- 1:09:40There's another Snowmore out here that I don't know.
- 1:09:42Yeah, like this is, this is right.
- 1:09:44Like, I know this is my let me make sure because it blew me
- 1:09:47away, man, because I'm so used, you know, even from metal bands
- 1:09:50and like trying to get Roller to use some stuff and it's like,
- 1:09:53alright guy, you get $20, I get $20, Yeah, good job.
- 1:09:59You might get you might get to eat tonight.
- 1:10:00You guys like you gotta like, well, do I eat or do I put gas
- 1:10:02in the? Car Yeah, we're going to Waffle
- 1:10:04House is what we're doing. And so congratulations today, it
- 1:10:09set me back. And I was like, wow, like, I go,
- 1:10:11I go solo. I go, I do this journey on my
- 1:10:14own. And this is the most from
- 1:10:17royalties that I've ever ever respectively earned.
- 1:10:21And I was like, okay. And I left it in there.
- 1:10:24I was like, I'm not even gonna touch it.
- 1:10:26I'm just gonna leave it, let it. Just let it grow.
- 1:10:28Yeah, you're just kind of a nestic, you know, too.
- 1:10:31I think that's a testament to the content.
- 1:10:36As well and the subject matter of the content because let's
- 1:10:39face it Nordic folk music is probably at its most popular
- 1:10:47that it's ever been. You know what I mean?
- 1:10:48Like this style of music and and when you know Viking this and
- 1:10:56and Norse that right it it's it's popular stuff right?
- 1:11:00And so tapping into that and and but not taking advantage of it.
- 1:11:05You know what I mean? Like, obviously that's what
- 1:11:06you've been doing. It's just kind of paying off
- 1:11:09now. Like you're seeing a return in
- 1:11:10your investment, right? And I look at that too as a way
- 1:11:14for like, for me especially and any other content creators that
- 1:11:19do stuff like this is like you can milk that cow and and do
- 1:11:26stuff that's just gonna catch views.
- 1:11:30It's like a fine line. Like you gotta balance it out.
- 1:11:32Like I wanna do the. You know, the stuff that's going
- 1:11:35to generate traffic, you know, and and and and generate an
- 1:11:40interest. But at the same time, I'm not
- 1:11:43going to sacrifice misinformation or or you know,
- 1:11:48bad quality or anything like that in the interim, like let's
- 1:11:52make sure that we're sorry, you know, balancing it out loud, you
- 1:11:58know, in in in a right way so. Yeah, like you got you got the
- 1:12:02new EP coming out it it'll be released when it'll be released.
- 1:12:07There's a show coming up October 28th.
- 1:12:09There's going to be details for that in the description and show
- 1:12:12notes of this podcast. So for those of you that are in
- 1:12:15the area of North Carolina that that's going to be, please go
- 1:12:18out and support the whole thing like support the event but but
- 1:12:22definitely check out Zeb here on on his performance.
- 1:12:26Is this your first live? Is this like your debut live?
- 1:12:31Sorry, my laptop was dying, man. I had to move.
- 1:12:33That's okay. Everybody's like, where's he
- 1:12:38doing? Sorry, man, my laptop.
- 1:12:40I thought I had enough battery sitting outside, but it did not.
- 1:12:43No, you're good man. So.
- 1:12:48Is this the first time? Live with you as far.
- 1:12:51As I mean like Skogamore as a live.
- 1:12:54You mean the performance? Yeah, yes.
- 1:12:57Yeah. Sorry that was a long.
- 1:13:00Journey to get where I was at to hear.
- 1:13:01So my brain's on law and I even left my meat outside.
- 1:13:04I'm disappointed about that. But yeah, October 28th will be
- 1:13:08my first time performing live with Squirremore.
- 1:13:13So, so yeah. Definitely maiden voyage.
- 1:13:17Yeah, it's it's one of those possibly going to be extremely
- 1:13:22nervous and I've been performing for 20 something years, but I
- 1:13:24think this one's definitely going to have me on the the
- 1:13:27nervous and making sure it all goes through right, you know?
- 1:13:31Oh yeah, I'm sure you know those those debuts are are they got a
- 1:13:35hit? They got to man, right?
- 1:13:38Yeah, I know I got friends and family come into it and
- 1:13:41definitely want to be me and give the best performance, but
- 1:13:45I'm like okay. I'm going to definitely have to
- 1:13:47work on that adrenaline we were talking about earlier is keeping
- 1:13:49that adrenaline down. Yeah, but I do want people that
- 1:13:52are watching and listening here, you know, in that area.
- 1:13:54Definitely check out the event as a whole.
- 1:13:57That sounds like there's going to be some really cool.
- 1:14:00Things just going on in general, but for those folks that are
- 1:14:04listening to, watching, that are wanting to hear Scoga more live,
- 1:14:08if you listen to the tracks, there's gonna be some links in
- 1:14:10the description and show notes of videos that we talked about
- 1:14:13on this episode. Of course all your socials are
- 1:14:18gonna be linked, so but for the people that listen and stuff,
- 1:14:22they'll be like, cool, I get to see this live if I were.
- 1:14:25I mean just to be honest, I have my winter nights thing going on
- 1:14:27that weekend and then in just a couple of weeks after that I'm
- 1:14:31actually going to be in Appalachia for Fire on the
- 1:14:34Mountain. But I'm like I I, you know, I
- 1:14:36would love to catch a live show one day.
- 1:14:39I'm glad to hear that you've got, you know, more plans to do
- 1:14:42stuff like that into next year in case we get a.
- 1:14:47Get a chance to plan and and and come out and see you.
- 1:14:52Yeah. And I and I do plan on
- 1:14:53definitely trying to get more out there next year.
- 1:14:56But I got, I got a friend of mine who just opened or took
- 1:15:00over a music video in Raleigh, NC called Chapel of Bones, and
- 1:15:05he's invited me to come play and perform at a block.
- 1:15:09So I'm looking forward to that. And then I got asked to perform
- 1:15:15at the total Viking experience. Which is up in like apex Raleigh
- 1:15:21area, so it's like a renaissance fair theme for an entire
- 1:15:25weekend. Yeah, they just did that.
- 1:15:26What was it like last March, last month?
- 1:15:30Yeah, earlier. Yeah.
- 1:15:32March I think up and then we're up there if y'all have a tier
- 1:15:35were there. Yes, yeah, they they they
- 1:15:37they're regular attendance for vendors there.
- 1:15:40And yeah, the the owners reached out and asked me if I would be
- 1:15:44interested in performing like a kind of like an after party
- 1:15:47thing. So I'm excited and I'm looking
- 1:15:51forward to that. That event is is grown
- 1:15:55significantly and I know last year they even had some
- 1:15:57billboards put up on the side of the highway get people to come
- 1:16:01here, yeah it packs out man. So looking forward to that.
- 1:16:05So I'm gearing up definitely to to get into probably I've been
- 1:16:11asked for a few other venues but definitely looking at you know
- 1:16:14like rent fares is kind of. Kind of the theme that I'm
- 1:16:17seeing that's coming in and and asking me and I'm, you know,
- 1:16:22absolutely going to do those, cuz why not, right?
- 1:16:24It gives me, I get to dress up and get on stage and blend in
- 1:16:29with everyone else and this is going to be like a party from
- 1:16:31that era. So yeah, I'm all about it, man.
- 1:16:35Awesome, man. I'm glad that there's stuff
- 1:16:36coming down the pipeline for you that you're going to be able to
- 1:16:39showcase your talent and share it with people.
- 1:16:42In a live setting that that always means a lot to people and
- 1:16:46I'm excited for you about it. So congratulations on all that.
- 1:16:49Appreciate it. Appreciate it.
- 1:16:50Thank you, Sir. Yeah, so we're gonna wrap it up
- 1:16:53now. Anything else going on?
- 1:16:54Anything that we hadn't touched on that you wanna say as far as
- 1:16:58parting words or? Maybe just wanna say thank you
- 1:17:03for having me on, man. It's always a pleasure just to
- 1:17:05chat with you, whether it's business related or if it's
- 1:17:08friendship related. I enjoy that.
- 1:17:10So I'm honored to be on your show.
- 1:17:13Having you or is for school room of your yeah I got I got the new
- 1:17:18track Heavens Rent Asunder which is all about suther and him set
- 1:17:23that in the world ablaze that's what that track's about little
- 1:17:27bit of a there's a little bit of a lyric video out there about
- 1:17:31that which. We'll link that down below too
- 1:17:34for. That's good.
- 1:17:36Random clips, man, I kind of put together to keep fit the theme.
- 1:17:39Didn't really want to shoot a live video for that one.
- 1:17:43But I do have plans on the next video that comes out will be a
- 1:17:47live video to represent the EP. But other than that, yeah, just
- 1:17:54new music. It's in the direction.
- 1:17:56It's coming down the pipe. The shows is coming and looking
- 1:17:59forward to the future. All right man, cool.
- 1:18:02We're definitely looking forward to following along the journey
- 1:18:07and we'll keep our eyes peeled and everybody else to.
- 1:18:11Everything for Skoger Mord and and his stuff is going to be
- 1:18:14linked down in the description or show notes.
- 1:18:17Wherever you're catching this episode, be sure to check it all
- 1:18:19out. Show your support.
- 1:18:21If you can and you're in the air, you can make it a live
- 1:18:23show. Definitely do that and give give
- 1:18:26Zeb here a high 5 for me when you're at that that that live
- 1:18:30show. Man, it would be greatly
- 1:18:31appreciated. And yeah, everything that that
- 1:18:34you're doing of course is coming out through Inner Demon Media,
