- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart podcasts.
- 0:18Speaker 2: That's right, it's episode seven of Unscripted. He is demers
- 0:21Speaker 2: for great to have.
- 0:22Speaker 3: You with us.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I gotta tell you something last week. The production has
- 0:25Speaker 2: been high with our producer talent. I believe the content
- 0:27Speaker 2: is quite good, the chemistry is undeniable. But the guests
- 0:30Speaker 2: last week we brought the bag Man and we bought
- 0:32Speaker 2: Frank the Tank and jd You look at the numbers
- 0:35Speaker 2: you see the social media. I mean we're talking six figures,
- 0:37Speaker 2: one hundred and twenty thousand people talking about Frank the
- 0:39Speaker 2: Tank taking out Jersey teachers.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I mean, C Spot run, C Dick run. Tell me
- 0:46Speaker 3: the rest is one of the best lines. And you
- 0:50Speaker 3: know we talked about it. Frank to Tank wasn't the
- 0:52Speaker 3: highest of energy, but he gave us some gems.
- 0:55Speaker 2: We're gonna be fired because we've got Nick Alberga on
- 0:57Speaker 2: he's a talk a little leaves, talk a little fantasy.
- 0:59Speaker 2: And Jesus Lopez, who is the Spanish language voice of
- 1:02Speaker 2: the Vegas Golden Knights. I mean, this is going to
- 1:03Speaker 2: be a great episode. He's got a great backstory. So
- 1:06Speaker 2: two great guests. Last week and two great guests this week.
- 1:08Speaker 2: We be given though with the fact that you're a
- 1:10Speaker 2: little hot and bother, which I like. I listen, you're
- 1:12Speaker 2: a great guy and you're normally upbeat. You look a
- 1:14Speaker 2: little pissed today, So.
- 1:14Speaker 1: What's going on? What do you want to what do
- 1:15Speaker 1: you want to? Got off your chest? Looks like there's
- 1:17Speaker 1: a lot of chords there. Look at your Circuit City.
- 1:20Speaker 3: I listen, I'm on the road with the Sharks right
- 1:23Speaker 3: now doing audio and I'm I literally show up for
- 1:25Speaker 3: these five game road trips with like seven bags, looking
- 1:28Speaker 3: like looking like Paris Hilton and the normal Simple Life
- 1:32Speaker 3: for whatever show she did with Nicole Ritchie Simple Life figure. Yeah,
- 1:35Speaker 3: the Simple Life. I have like seven bags, and guys like,
- 1:37Speaker 3: what the hell are you doing? I have more wires
- 1:40Speaker 3: than Circuit City here. I'm just there's like it's through
- 1:43Speaker 3: my legs. I'm trying to figure out I'm looking like
- 1:45Speaker 3: mcgiver trying to figure out the perfect lighting.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Here's something to pick you up.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I said to my wife before we started, I said,
- 1:50Speaker 2: this guy Jason to Mercer's grace, because yeah, I.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Go, he looks a little like Paul Rudd.
- 1:54Speaker 2: It's just really go, yeah, I go if you saw me, Paul,
- 1:57Speaker 2: And I said, yeah. So this brings me to my
- 1:59Speaker 2: story of mistaken identity.
- 2:00Speaker 3: So this is now.
- 2:01Speaker 1: This happened in Chicago.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Was there for the Flames Blackhawks game and no less
- 2:05Speaker 2: than four people Astro security guard Sean Laws is that?
- 2:08Speaker 1: And before I tell you who it is, would you
- 2:10Speaker 1: like to take a guess? He's a Hall of Fame
- 2:12Speaker 1: defenceman Chris Chillios. There it is.
- 2:15Speaker 3: You look a bit like Chris Cillios. So your hair's
- 2:19Speaker 3: whispy like his, just a little bit up top.
- 2:21Speaker 1: It's a little whispy. Yeah, but like I'm literally it's
- 2:24Speaker 1: me and Shane Nighter. The shirt.
- 2:24Speaker 2: People like, hey, is that Chris Chellio's. Oh my god,
- 2:26Speaker 2: Chris shows Can I go me Chris? It's not Christellio's
- 2:29Speaker 2: And not even was like, dude, he goes once you
- 2:30Speaker 2: see it because now I can't unsee it, which makes
- 2:32Speaker 2: me my favorite story mistake and identity. I worked with
- 2:35Speaker 2: Chelios in the World Cup twenty sixteen, me him and
- 2:37Speaker 2: Brett Hall also auditioned by the way, Marty Saint Luis,
- 2:40Speaker 2: who when I saw him as the habits go checko.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Do you remember twenty sixteen, esp is like, of course
- 2:43Speaker 1: I do.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I know who you are. I didn't do well in
- 2:44Speaker 2: the audition. I didn't want the job anyways. My wife
- 2:46Speaker 2: wanted to be of the house. I go, Marty, it's
- 2:47Speaker 2: all worked out for you. Anyways, Chelio's and I worked
- 2:49Speaker 2: the first shift. He looks at me and kind of
- 2:51Speaker 2: gives me sad eyes, goes, we do kind of look alike.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Excuse me, he goes, My wife was watching the last night.
- 2:55Speaker 1: She goes, that guy looks a lot like you.
- 2:57Speaker 3: I mean, hey, you never know, did it? You know?
- 3:00Speaker 3: I always looking for a third I.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Need I need to maximize that.
- 3:05Speaker 3: So there's one guy, Chris Chelios and his wife would
- 3:08Speaker 3: would think about maybe bringing in the better would be
- 3:12Speaker 3: somebody that looks like him or exactly like.
- 3:15Speaker 1: It's not gonna be like Owen Wilson. It asked me.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Somebody who's a reasonable fact simile exactly the same.
- 3:20Speaker 2: So twenty eighteen Detroit Airport. I'm wearing a Canada hat,
- 3:23Speaker 2: which you know. One thing about Chris chellis he hates Canadians.
- 3:26Speaker 2: One of the first things I met him, someone goes.
- 3:27Speaker 1: He's Canadian.
- 3:28Speaker 2: He goes, oh great, well, I guess you fucking played
- 3:29Speaker 2: junior and blew at your knee.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I beg your pardon.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I was like, I wasn't a freaking hockey player. Actually,
- 3:33Speaker 2: I mean I played shitting. I just wrote howk he's guys,
- 3:36Speaker 2: because you blue your knee.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I go with Chris. Every cane I meet tells me
- 3:40Speaker 1: you could have played. He's this, he's that. I go like, wow, he,
- 3:43Speaker 1: like most guys, joke about it. Chilling's legitally does not
- 3:46Speaker 1: like Canadians.
- 3:46Speaker 3: And Jesus like wearing it from the rafters.
- 3:49Speaker 1: So this should have been the first gameaway.
- 3:50Speaker 2: They have a Canada hat and the guy and I
- 3:52Speaker 2: hear sir, boys go excuse me, mister Chellis. I get
- 3:54Speaker 2: a picture and I look up jen I see two
- 3:56Speaker 2: middle aged men and I go, yeah, of course, guys.
- 3:59Speaker 1: I stand up.
- 4:00Speaker 2: We take a picture and he goes, oh and I
- 4:01Speaker 2: and I always think of Challice is a Blackhawks the
- 4:03Speaker 2: guy he gives back cock fans. But we're in the
- 4:05Speaker 2: Detroit airport. They called red Wings. Oh yeah, I had
- 4:07Speaker 2: some good years there too, like yeah, yeah. And then
- 4:09Speaker 2: because I've worked with Chellis, I'm talking too fast. I'm
- 4:11Speaker 2: talking like myself. Chellis talks very slowly, and then the
- 4:13Speaker 2: one guy says the other guy he says, well, man,
- 4:16Speaker 2: this picture is so great, Mills, this is definitely going
- 4:18Speaker 2: up on the mantle. And I told the story at
- 4:21Speaker 2: ESPN Radio and Mike goel, look at the best line.
- 4:23Speaker 2: He goes, imagine the guy who's gonna walk in that
- 4:25Speaker 2: house and go why do you have a picture of
- 4:26Speaker 2: bad them work up on your wall?
- 4:30Speaker 3: That's that's assuming that people know you.
- 4:32Speaker 1: But who is that guy up on the wall. That's
- 4:36Speaker 1: Chris ll.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Who's that guy that had over five hundred listeners on
- 4:40Speaker 3: a podcast called Cinephile that he did move He was
- 4:44Speaker 3: in the.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Top ten percent of podcast listeners.
- 4:47Speaker 2: It was so I should have gone to Chicago cut
- 4:50Speaker 2: in Chicago Monday night because that's Cheli's restaurant, and just
- 4:52Speaker 2: seeing if somebody was like, hey, I got a picture.
- 4:55Speaker 3: That's That's what I was saying. That's what I was saying,
- 4:56Speaker 3: is why didn't you you're in Chicago. If when you're
- 4:58Speaker 3: in Chicago, use that could go with the wife, go
- 5:01Speaker 3: get free dinners because he like owns that sit like
- 5:04Speaker 3: it's wild, like he could do whatever he wants.
- 5:06Speaker 2: But I had, uh, I'm going bottle service next time,
- 5:09Speaker 2: just a bottle of like twenty year old girls like, hey, you.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Guys want to I'm Chris, Yeah, christ is just burry
- 5:14Speaker 3: his reputation. I get so, you said Paul Rudd before
- 5:18Speaker 3: I get like Paul Rudd. I get Adam Sandler. I
- 5:22Speaker 3: radly get Bradley Cooper rarely. And that's what just that's
- 5:28Speaker 3: when everything is perfect, and I'm just like, it's the
- 5:31Speaker 3: perfect exact angle. But mostly Paul Rudd. But I was,
- 5:34Speaker 3: you know, somebody came up once and they're like, hey,
- 5:37Speaker 3: you look like Adam Sandler and I'm like, oh, you know,
- 5:39Speaker 3: you know, thanks, that's that's really yeah, and he goes no,
- 5:44Speaker 3: but he goes, you look like Adam Sandler from He
- 5:47Speaker 3: goes that that movie, just go with it, and I
- 5:49Speaker 3: was like, oh, yeah, the one with you know, Jennifer Aniston.
- 5:52Speaker 3: He goes yeah at the starting of the movie, when
- 5:54Speaker 3: you know he's got the big ass almost well, the
- 5:57Speaker 3: guys yelling, I mean it's snowfulu figous, and I almost
- 6:02Speaker 3: suckered the guy I almost suckered by. But I was like,
- 6:05Speaker 3: you know what, yeah, hey, listen, hats off to you,
- 6:08Speaker 3: Hats off to you. Good job. But yeah, I get
- 6:10Speaker 3: at him. I get at him at times, but a
- 6:11Speaker 3: lot of Paul Rudd though.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Yeah, which, by the way, is an enormous compliment. Paul
- 6:15Speaker 2: Rudd was Onnesday in People Magazine Sexiest Man Alive. So
- 6:17Speaker 2: that I mean, I think Shelley's a great pull for me.
- 6:19Speaker 2: He's considerably older than I am. I'm forty six and
- 6:21Speaker 2: then Shelley's fifty six. But he's an incredible shape. And
- 6:24Speaker 2: I'm not run into your potti of the same age
- 6:26Speaker 2: mid thirties like that.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm in I'm in decent shape. So hello, lady.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Jason Demurser, Paul Rudd.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Listen to NHL and script and subscribe, rate and review please,
- 6:36Speaker 2: by the way, go to Apple Podcast, leave a comment,
- 6:38Speaker 2: leave a review. I checked the Today's some nice comments,
- 6:40Speaker 2: some nice reviews. Let's get more of those I appreciate,
- 6:42Speaker 2: and let's get into the hockey. So in Calgary, sorry,
- 6:45Speaker 2: in that game between the Calgary famous Chicago Blackhawks. As
- 6:47Speaker 2: you know, Jay, Chicago's having a terrible season. Cobra Dart's great.
- 6:50Speaker 1: But there's not much there. But the anthem is great.
- 6:52Speaker 1: It's not quite Chicago Stadium nineteen ninety four, but it's
- 6:55Speaker 1: a heck of an anthem.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Think if I said, you, dude, you gotta watch the
- 6:57Speaker 2: game on problem, like why like the anthem, the anthem slaps.
- 7:00Speaker 3: That's all you need is anthem and then you get
- 7:02Speaker 3: the hell out of there before it goes and watch
- 7:04Speaker 3: you such a conoverdard Point. I mean I saw a
- 7:07Speaker 3: video of him. They were talking about, you know, he
- 7:09Speaker 3: got he hit one hundred points and they were like
- 7:12Speaker 3: interviewing him and he just looked like absolutely depressed. And
- 7:15Speaker 3: somebody was like, somebody's got to get this guy some
- 7:17Speaker 3: good players with him because this is getting bad. Like
- 7:20Speaker 3: you don't want them to. You know, we talk about
- 7:21Speaker 3: the Buffalo Sabers and everything, and we rag on him.
- 7:24Speaker 3: But you know, when you have young guys and you
- 7:26Speaker 3: don't build a team around that, you can really kind
- 7:27Speaker 3: of elevate and at least be competitive night in a
- 7:29Speaker 3: night out. Not saying any of these guys that are
- 7:31Speaker 3: on the black Hawks are non NHL players.
- 7:34Speaker 1: It's not a competitive process.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Yeah, the makeup, the makeup just does not work. And
- 7:38Speaker 3: what happens is you learn how to lose, and that
- 7:41Speaker 3: is very hard to un learn because it's easy when
- 7:44Speaker 3: you learn how to lose, to find the way out
- 7:45Speaker 3: and just be like, ah, you know what, we don't
- 7:47Speaker 3: need this game. It's fine, and I'll get my points
- 7:49Speaker 3: and I'll get my contract and everything will be fine.
- 7:51Speaker 3: So you always want to have some semblance of like
- 7:54Speaker 3: competitive edge. Like listen, the Sharks are struggling, but this
- 7:57Speaker 3: team works every night like they're they're trying, they're in games,
- 8:01Speaker 3: they're giving it. And that's just a subtle plug for
- 8:02Speaker 3: the SJA Sharks.
- 8:04Speaker 2: By the way, for those who't know, Demurs calling sixteen
- 8:06Speaker 2: Sharks games in the radio, so makes you gave a
- 8:08Speaker 2: shot out.
- 8:09Speaker 3: What are you gonna be on there Shark's audio network
- 8:10Speaker 3: tomorrow against the Columbus Blue Jackets, which we are talking
- 8:14Speaker 3: about them. It's a nice little segue into the Columbus
- 8:16Speaker 3: Blue Jackets, who are on an absolute heater. I mean,
- 8:19Speaker 3: San Jose just took down the seventh straight victorious Detroit
- 8:23Speaker 3: Red Wings last night.
- 8:24Speaker 2: All right, hold that thought before we get into the
- 8:26Speaker 2: mid season talk. I just one more thing on the
- 8:27Speaker 2: Monday night, I wanted to mention Rory Karns.
- 8:30Speaker 1: This is one of the stories you were we were
- 8:31Speaker 1: oh sorry, I jumped.
- 8:32Speaker 3: We were going to Calgary Yeah, it's keep going to
- 8:35Speaker 3: and I got excited. I got excited.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Flames rookie Rory Karns posted a picture of himself as
- 8:39Speaker 2: a child wearing a Flames jersey a few weeks after
- 8:42Speaker 2: the team took him in the sixth round of the
- 8:44Speaker 2: twenty twenty Draft.
- 8:45Speaker 1: I was there Monday night.
- 8:47Speaker 2: It's on Monday, It's on Prime John for Is in
- 8:49Speaker 2: the Voice of Amazon, Pribe sees Rory Karn's collect two
- 8:52Speaker 2: assists in the first twelve minutes of the game. Sergey
- 8:55Speaker 2: Macaroff also did that. And the Flames, by the ways,
- 8:57Speaker 2: you know, Jay, they're offensively challenged. They scored five against
- 9:00Speaker 2: the Blackhawks.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I mean scoring five against him? Was ax scoring two
- 9:03Speaker 1: against teams? What is Flame?
- 9:05Speaker 2: Still had a great story for Rory Karens. Take me
- 9:08Speaker 2: back to your debut.
- 9:09Speaker 1: What was it like?
- 9:10Speaker 3: Oh? My debut was in Colorado. I was minus one
- 9:14Speaker 3: and I'll never forget you know, the game. We won
- 9:16Speaker 3: the game five too. But the funniest thing is the
- 9:19Speaker 3: guy I get played with, Brendan Buckley in the AHL
- 9:21Speaker 3: the year before, and I always tell the story and
- 9:24Speaker 3: the next day I kind of, you know, we want them.
- 9:26Speaker 3: I'm feeling good even though it was minus one whatever.
- 9:28Speaker 3: And I just get a text from him and he goes, hey, man,
- 9:30Speaker 3: congrats on your first game. You're on pace for minus
- 9:33Speaker 3: eighty two. Good luck keep going. And I just went
- 9:37Speaker 3: you Son a bit, just immediately, just easy, yeah, right
- 9:41Speaker 3: back to earth. But I mean, yeah, right, it's a
- 9:44Speaker 3: great story Rory Karens, and I mean to assist. I
- 9:46Speaker 3: mean that's he's a good player, good offensive player, and
- 9:49Speaker 3: in the Wranglers and he's they've just found away Calgary,
- 9:54Speaker 3: Like they've a lot of guys that they've brought up
- 9:57Speaker 3: are performing and even though they're not scoring a ton,
- 9:59Speaker 3: they're finding ways to win. I mean, Huberto is their
- 10:01Speaker 3: leading score with like just over thirty points, which is wild.
- 10:05Speaker 3: You don't see many teams you're looking at, like the
- 10:06Speaker 3: Colorado's guys are at over sixty and but this team
- 10:10Speaker 3: just finds a way to win their Well, Coach, you
- 10:12Speaker 3: got Dustin Wolf, who's probably in the calder race. He's
- 10:15Speaker 3: on the outside a little bit looking in.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Hotson each cough, celebrainy then Wolf.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Yeah, Wolf's there. I mean he's he's clipping at a
- 10:22Speaker 3: nine to sixteen save percentage. I started goals save percentageyet
- 10:25Speaker 3: and is you know, his goals against is good two
- 10:28Speaker 3: point five for you know, being on a team that
- 10:31Speaker 3: doesn't score much, and I would be giving him rookie consideration.
- 10:34Speaker 3: I don't know exactly where he'll end up because celebrity's
- 10:37Speaker 3: heating up. And I mean I watch him. I've watched
- 10:40Speaker 3: him for five six games live, and you know, I
- 10:42Speaker 3: follow a lot of the Shark stuff. He's absolutely incredible.
- 10:44Speaker 3: But Dustin Wolf, hats off to him and a young
- 10:46Speaker 3: guy coming in as a goal it's a tough job
- 10:49Speaker 3: in this league, especially your first year, to be playing
- 10:51Speaker 3: this many games and performing well.
- 10:53Speaker 2: So we're talking with the factor at the mid season
- 10:55Speaker 2: mark right now, and arguably the best story of the
- 10:57Speaker 2: season has been the Columbus Blue Jackets. And I work
- 10:59Speaker 2: again with Jody Shelley on Amazon, your former teammate with
- 11:01Speaker 2: the Stanosy Sharks, who once took umbradge how chatty you
- 11:05Speaker 2: were and put you in a word count you were
- 11:07Speaker 2: on either a bus or a plane and walk back
- 11:08Speaker 2: there and say, hey, Demurz, shut it, you got this
- 11:11Speaker 2: many more words to go was unbelievable. Demurz right now
- 11:13Speaker 2: is so offendy. He's actually left for a second, let
- 11:15Speaker 2: me finish business thought. But I asked Jody, who calls,
- 11:18Speaker 2: you know, seventy Blue Jackets games? And I said, are
- 11:20Speaker 2: they legit? And he goes, yeah, I goes, it's the
- 11:21Speaker 2: best story.
- 11:22Speaker 1: In hockey, are you kidding?
- 11:23Speaker 2: After the passing of Johnny Gudeaux offensive ineptitude, they have
- 11:26Speaker 2: the fifth most goals per game this season, and Zach Warnsky,
- 11:29Speaker 2: along with Quinn Hughes, the only defense right now to
- 11:31Speaker 2: lead the team in scoring entirely.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Even Paul Coffee wasn't doing that.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Because you know, Gretzky messaged in a defenseman to lead
- 11:37Speaker 2: league scoring.
- 11:37Speaker 1: As you said earlier, they may not even just.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Be like he's in the Norris Trophy conversation along with
- 11:42Speaker 2: a Cale mccarr, along with the Quinn Hughes, but he
- 11:43Speaker 2: also could be in the Heart Trophy conversation.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Wrensky is a big one to talk about. I mean,
- 11:48Speaker 3: he's he's leads Columbus in points, leads him in assists,
- 11:51Speaker 3: in power play points, he leads all d men in
- 11:54Speaker 3: shots with one hundred and seventy one this year, and
- 11:57Speaker 3: he's got seven points in five games when they're on
- 11:59Speaker 3: this little five point this five game heater. So for
- 12:02Speaker 3: all the stat nerds, there's some stat that's for your ass.
- 12:05Speaker 2: But he's he's, He's that's a new segment coming to
- 12:10Speaker 2: the scripts.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Now for you.
- 12:11Speaker 3: I just I love seeing a guy that, you know,
- 12:13Speaker 3: he really had some injury struggles, but you could see
- 12:16Speaker 3: the dynamic game that he has. You could see how
- 12:19Speaker 3: dominant he can be, and he's kind of seemed to
- 12:22Speaker 3: he seems to have found like the health the health factor,
- 12:26Speaker 3: which is huge. You know, you know, I struggle with
- 12:27Speaker 3: a lot of injuries, and a guy like this that
- 12:29Speaker 3: is healthy, he can't help his team when he's when
- 12:32Speaker 3: he's off the ice injured. So he's been incredible. He
- 12:35Speaker 3: has to be obviously right now, he's my Norris Pick.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I love that Hughes had a Kale mccarr.
- 12:41Speaker 3: It's him and Cale mccarr. Then obviously, I mean Cale
- 12:43Speaker 3: mccarr and Quinn are kind of tied. But I think
- 12:45Speaker 3: Warensky's what he's doing. I mean, he's got Dante Fabreau's
- 12:48Speaker 3: deep partner, you know, Quinn Hughes also, you could argue
- 12:50Speaker 3: that there's been a lot of injuries and he's really
- 12:52Speaker 3: carried that team. But just what Warrensky has done with
- 12:55Speaker 3: this Columbus team. You know, we know the tragedy that
- 12:57Speaker 3: happened at the start of the year. They're now missing
- 12:59Speaker 3: Sean Monahan's been out with an injury since January seventh,
- 13:03Speaker 3: you know, and he's just kind of carried this team
- 13:06Speaker 3: all year and it's absolutely incredible. I mean, for a
- 13:08Speaker 3: d men to lead the team in points is very
- 13:12Speaker 3: hard to do, uh, and especially leading your team in
- 13:15Speaker 3: points and having them in a playoff spot. So they
- 13:18Speaker 3: have a big game tomorrow night. You know, to not
- 13:20Speaker 3: take San Josa Sharks lightly, but this is a guy
- 13:22Speaker 3: that everybody needs to watch. And I think this Columbus team.
- 13:24Speaker 3: The only thing that scares me is the road records
- 13:26Speaker 3: really bad. They've been their lights out at home, they're
- 13:29Speaker 3: fifteen to five and three.
- 13:30Speaker 1: It's because the canon if they got a cannon, they're right.
- 13:32Speaker 3: No Canadona, Yeah they can't. That's the thing. It's it's
- 13:34Speaker 3: they're very good at home and and that listen to
- 13:37Speaker 3: Columbus fans when they get behind a team. It is
- 13:40Speaker 3: a fun building to play and it's very hard to
- 13:41Speaker 3: plan and I always hated playing in this building. But yeah,
- 13:45Speaker 3: it's an exciting team, and there just needs to be
- 13:48Speaker 3: somebody new like the eight. I feel like there's just
- 13:50Speaker 3: been too much. It's too redundant with the teams in
- 13:52Speaker 3: the playoffs. Let's get some new blood. Columbus, get your
- 13:55Speaker 3: ass in there, and maybe even Ottawa centers. But we're
- 13:59Speaker 3: gonna we're gonna stay off Outawa tonight. We're giving the
- 14:01Speaker 3: flowers to Columbus blue Jack.
- 14:04Speaker 2: I love it teams that have exceeded expectations, Columbus, certainly
- 14:07Speaker 2: of the Washington Capitals.
- 14:08Speaker 1: You've talked a lot about Ovenkin. It feels virtuill.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Certainly this point is a break Gretzky's record this year.
- 14:13Speaker 2: He's on pace to it in late March, by the way.
- 14:15Speaker 2: So he gets injured, he comes back, no problem. In
- 14:17Speaker 2: the meantime, as far as players again have been really great.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Renchky Nature's logan Thompson, Kevin Weeks loves. Every time I
- 14:22Speaker 2: talk to Weeks, he's just he's all in a logan
- 14:24Speaker 2: Toms and he's had a great time to question too.
- 14:27Speaker 2: I don't want to be negative now, Jay, but guys
- 14:29Speaker 2: who have disappointed Elias Peterson, Zabinijet, Jeff Skinner. I know
- 14:33Speaker 2: hockey's a tough game.
- 14:35Speaker 1: I'm not going to deny you that, but those guys
- 14:37Speaker 1: have been disappointed.
- 14:39Speaker 3: I mean, I feel bad pilot on Mika's avantajette. I mean,
- 14:42Speaker 3: he isn't broke a he hasn't broke a sweat this season,
- 14:46Speaker 3: and I mean I just talked about Jeff Skinner at
- 14:47Speaker 3: length with with Edmonton and listen, I watched those games
- 14:50Speaker 3: because I do a pod for them on the side,
- 14:52Speaker 3: you know, once a week when I can do it,
- 14:55Speaker 3: and he's he's played well, it just hasn't fit. Like
- 15:00Speaker 3: if he's not in the top six, that's not the
- 15:02Speaker 3: makeup they want for their team. They're very top so heavy.
- 15:04Speaker 3: If you're in the top six on Edmonton, you really
- 15:06Speaker 3: have to produce. But if you're in the bottom six,
- 15:08Speaker 3: yes they want production out of you, but you have
- 15:10Speaker 3: to be kind of a driving and energy force, and
- 15:13Speaker 3: you know, you got to be a little bit of
- 15:14Speaker 3: a motor and Skinner's not really that type of game.
- 15:17Speaker 3: You know, he's very much he's perimeterive. He can get inside,
- 15:20Speaker 3: but he likes to slow things down a little bit
- 15:22Speaker 3: more than the Mattias jan Marks and and the Connor
- 15:24Speaker 3: Browns and stuff like that. So it just hasn't fit.
- 15:28Speaker 3: You know, it's not a knock on him or the team.
- 15:30Speaker 3: It just I don't think the fits there, and I
- 15:32Speaker 3: think we all wanted it, Like you talk about like
- 15:35Speaker 3: other than the Nashville Predators when everybody was like they
- 15:37Speaker 3: won the off season. They won the off season, that's
- 15:40Speaker 3: you know they're gonna win the Cup and you know
- 15:42Speaker 3: they've been shit. But the Edmonton Oilers when they brought
- 15:46Speaker 3: in skin, everybody's like, that's one of the pickups of
- 15:48Speaker 3: the That's one of the pickups of the off season
- 15:50Speaker 3: in free agency is getting Jeff Skinner because if he
- 15:52Speaker 3: can score forty I mean, look out, deepest team they've
- 15:55Speaker 3: had in years, and it just hasn't worked out. So
- 15:58Speaker 3: it's not a knock. I just think sometimes it fits
- 16:00Speaker 3: not there. And you know the thing is is that
- 16:03Speaker 3: is Skinner gonna want to get out of there? I
- 16:06Speaker 3: think is no move. But is he really gonna waive
- 16:09Speaker 3: it to leave or is he gonna stay and say, listen,
- 16:10Speaker 3: I'm gonna be in the playoffs for the first time
- 16:12Speaker 3: in my career with this team and arguably a team
- 16:15Speaker 3: that's going to the finals because they look very good
- 16:17Speaker 3: right now. And you know, I don't see them not
- 16:20Speaker 3: being in the conference finals. So you know, Skinner might
- 16:22Speaker 3: just be like, hey, I might get my shot, get
- 16:24Speaker 3: in and have a chance at a cup.
- 16:25Speaker 2: What do you got for second half? Something to look
- 16:27Speaker 2: forward to, specific player or team.
- 16:30Speaker 3: Well, I mean Boston is one to watch because if
- 16:33Speaker 3: they don't make a move, and I do think they're
- 16:35Speaker 3: going to take a swing. It's just it's a matter
- 16:38Speaker 3: of time. It's not an if it's a win. But
- 16:41Speaker 3: you know, they're minus twenty one goal differential and they're
- 16:43Speaker 3: in the second one in the first wildcard spot. So
- 16:46Speaker 3: I don't like the way they're playing at all. I
- 16:48Speaker 3: don't think they have enough to make the playoffs, so
- 16:51Speaker 3: I think they'd be out. They're gonna fall out if
- 16:52Speaker 3: they don't make a move. Now, I think Sweeney's gonna
- 16:55Speaker 3: take a swing because it's his ass on the lane,
- 16:58Speaker 3: that's for sure.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I don't know what this thing is your deal, but
- 17:01Speaker 1: I like it the inflex a little.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Yeah, they're in a little bit.
- 17:03Speaker 1: You know, you gotta swinging.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Has an eight ninety five save percentage this year. Yeah,
- 17:07Speaker 2: first bet of an eight year, sixty six million dollar contract.
- 17:10Speaker 3: We Corey Schneider. You know, talks a lot on the
- 17:12Speaker 3: NHL Network about a goalie. It's so important for him
- 17:16Speaker 3: to get the preseason and training camp because if you
- 17:17Speaker 3: don't get it, you're a little bit behind, and then
- 17:20Speaker 3: you're chasing it. You're chasing it. You really need those reps.
- 17:23Speaker 3: And he didn't get it, and it just the whole
- 17:26Speaker 3: team looks out of sorts. We thought they're going to
- 17:28Speaker 3: get a coaching bump by Fire Montgomery. You know, I go.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Thirteen, ten and five, like it was there a little bit.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Now it's yeah, it was a little it was there
- 17:34Speaker 3: a little bit, but you know, I don't think again
- 17:37Speaker 3: it was the issue wasn't coaching. So like even if
- 17:39Speaker 3: you look at Montgomery and Saint Louis, like they had
- 17:41Speaker 3: they had a little bit coaching bump, and now they
- 17:42Speaker 3: kind of slumped a bit and they've been kind of
- 17:44Speaker 3: a little bit up and down. But you know, I
- 17:46Speaker 3: think it's it's that's a team for sure, and then
- 17:49Speaker 3: the other team is you know, I just watched a
- 17:51Speaker 3: video on on them talking on Bill Armstrong talking about Utah,
- 17:55Speaker 3: like Utah going to Utah.
- 17:57Speaker 1: I love Tourny, great guy, Montreal guy, Quebec guy. Great.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Who's that they're head coach.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Oh touring eight. I just you said it wrong, So
- 18:05Speaker 3: just say it twenty that's what you say. It's not
- 18:07Speaker 3: how you say.
- 18:08Speaker 1: But well it's okay, let's get it right.
- 18:11Speaker 3: If we're gonna say somebody from from Quebec, okay, uh No,
- 18:18Speaker 3: I mean he's on. I think he's under the hot
- 18:20Speaker 3: seat for sure, because I love the guy.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I just buried him.
- 18:23Speaker 3: I like him too. I think he's now is he
- 18:26Speaker 3: the is he the coach of the future of this team?
- 18:28Speaker 3: I'm not a hunt. I don't know, because they have
- 18:31Speaker 3: so much talent and he's been there for a long time,
- 18:33Speaker 3: and we know how the NHL is right now. It's
- 18:36Speaker 3: it's so sad to be a coach in the NHL
- 18:38Speaker 3: because you don't haven't you don't have a chance.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Like if you're should be three years, it's more like
- 18:42Speaker 1: two and a half.
- 18:43Speaker 3: It's to if that that we're getting coaches getting axt
- 18:46Speaker 3: twelve games in and somehow Lindy Rough still in the league.
- 18:49Speaker 3: But anyway, I digress, Donnie, we need Don Grenado in
- 18:53Speaker 3: there with Tony Grenado and Cammy Grenado, the whole family coaching.
- 18:58Speaker 3: But no, I think I just think it's tough because
- 19:02Speaker 3: and Bill Armstrong said, he like said nobody it was
- 19:05Speaker 3: kind of a funny. It was a little bit of
- 19:06Speaker 3: a stupid code. But he's like, I kind of like that.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Nobody knows if we're buyers or sellers, so we can
- 19:12Speaker 3: kind of swing from the hip and we can take
- 19:13Speaker 3: a swing and we have the assets. And I'm like, okay,
- 19:16Speaker 3: you guys are you have to be buyers because you
- 19:20Speaker 3: can't waste another year of this core. And you have
- 19:23Speaker 3: all these draft picks. You know. I talked with Phil
- 19:26Speaker 3: Kessel and he said something great the other day and
- 19:28Speaker 3: he goes, you have all these draft picks, what are
- 19:31Speaker 3: you gonna do? So if you go out and draft
- 19:32Speaker 3: a bunch of guys in the first round again, and
- 19:34Speaker 3: he's one hundred percent right. So now you have a
- 19:36Speaker 3: whole nother wave of young guys coming in. You already
- 19:38Speaker 3: have the core, you have it, it's there, it's locked up.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Surround them with people, And how do you get that
- 19:44Speaker 3: in trade? You're not going to get in a free
- 19:45Speaker 3: agency because I don't know how, I don't know how
- 19:48Speaker 3: desirable Utah is for free agencies. You need to get
- 19:51Speaker 3: into trade, So use some of those draft picks, bring
- 19:54Speaker 3: in a guy, bring in a center they needed, bona
- 19:56Speaker 3: fide number one center, Sell some first round draft picks,
- 20:00Speaker 3: and go get a cup or at least a playoff
- 20:03Speaker 3: berth because they have looked awful of late and they
- 20:06Speaker 3: just can't find a win and they're slowly falling out
- 20:08Speaker 3: of it and they kind of do that every year.
- 20:10Speaker 3: So they got to make a move here.
- 20:11Speaker 1: I like it. It's a team not many peill talk
- 20:12Speaker 1: about it.
- 20:13Speaker 2: They'll love there at least a focus on Utah moving forward,
- 20:15Speaker 2: the Utah Hockey Club in their first season.
- 20:17Speaker 3: There r Pornier torn Ye torn Yi.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Coming up next.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Jesus Fantastic, the Spanish language voice of the Vegas Golden Knights.
- 20:27Speaker 2: He has an incredible backstory how he left Mexico and
- 20:29Speaker 2: how exactly he came to be a hockey guy. Not
- 20:32Speaker 2: something you'd expect. It's not something he would expect. You're
- 20:34Speaker 2: gonna love his story. Jesus Lopez, the voice the Vegas
- 20:37Speaker 2: Golden Knights.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Right now and unscripted.
- 20:46Speaker 2: What a pleasure of bringing in the Spanish language voice
- 20:48Speaker 2: of the Vegas Golden Knights and one of just three
- 20:50Speaker 2: Spanish played by play commentators in the NHL. It is
- 20:53Speaker 2: Jesus Lopez, who has been with the team since they
- 20:56Speaker 2: began playing twenty seventeen, twenty eighties, become a staple of team.
- 21:00Speaker 2: The only thing more incredible than his signature calls near
- 21:02Speaker 2: might be the stribf Hey, he came to this team
- 21:04Speaker 2: in the first place.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Welcome Hazy Slopez, Thanks much for joining us here on unscripted.
- 21:07Speaker 4: Thank you for having me. Thank you very much, guys,
- 21:09Speaker 4: thank you all.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Right after that intro, I have to now find out
- 21:11Speaker 1: the story.
- 21:12Speaker 2: How exactly did you become the voice of the Golden Knights.
- 21:15Speaker 4: I was lucky enough to have that chance. Well, mister
- 21:19Speaker 4: Bill Foley was We were holding a video conference who
- 21:23Speaker 4: was in New Zealand when he announced that he was
- 21:26Speaker 4: very happy for partnership with Lotus Broadcasting since we have
- 21:29Speaker 4: you know, at that time it was ESPN de portis
- 21:32Speaker 4: So and that he wanted the Hispanic community involved with
- 21:37Speaker 4: the vehicles Golden Knights. So I had experience doing play
- 21:41Speaker 4: by play for soccer in Mexico and boxing matches also,
- 21:46Speaker 4: I saw it as a great opportunity and I just
- 21:49Speaker 4: walked into the edit bay and start recording demos. Gave
- 21:53Speaker 4: him to my boss and asking Tony Bonici send them
- 21:57Speaker 4: to the Knights and see if they can give me
- 21:59Speaker 4: the chance, you know, to do the play by play.
- 22:01Speaker 4: But I didn't say anything to anybody. I did. I
- 22:04Speaker 4: did it in secrecy, to tell you the truth, and didn't.
- 22:08Speaker 4: I mean, I really wanted to give that chance. So
- 22:11Speaker 4: that's that's how I started. And eventually Tony asked me,
- 22:15Speaker 4: why don't you do your soccer you know, there's something missing.
- 22:18Speaker 4: Why don't you do your soccer call, you know, soccer
- 22:22Speaker 4: goal call. So I started, you know, calling the goal
- 22:24Speaker 4: soccer style and long and then and yeah, and that's
- 22:29Speaker 4: how it started. And eventually some of those goal calls
- 22:33Speaker 4: mean went viral. That's how the whole thing started.
- 22:36Speaker 2: Harner ran saying who did hockey in Canada and Punjabi
- 22:39Speaker 2: in CBC and Canada said part of the challenge was
- 22:41Speaker 2: that certain words you couldn't translate to Punjabi. He's like,
- 22:44Speaker 2: you know, I just had to say icing, So certainly
- 22:47Speaker 2: when you're translated to Spanish there's certain hockey terms. I'm
- 22:50Speaker 2: sure that happens sometimes.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, No, No, I mean I used the word
- 22:53Speaker 4: icing because that's what it is, you know, And and uh,
- 22:56Speaker 4: and then but we have done some videos explaining to
- 22:59Speaker 4: our community the rules of hockey. You know, what's anising,
- 23:03Speaker 4: you know, and different kind of slashing, holding, tripping when
- 23:09Speaker 4: it's offside, and it's very similar to soccer, so it
- 23:12Speaker 4: was really really easy to understand, very very similar.
- 23:15Speaker 3: You you mentioned Bill Foley in this Night's team that's
- 23:18Speaker 3: trying to grow the Hispanic audience, and what have you
- 23:21Speaker 3: noticed since you've been there in terms of Hispanic speaking
- 23:25Speaker 3: audience that have taken to the Golden Knights, and you
- 23:29Speaker 3: do you kind of take credit for that and are
- 23:31Speaker 3: you proud to see it growing, you know, year over year.
- 23:35Speaker 4: I think I think the most important part is that
- 23:40Speaker 4: the Vegas Golden Knights came to Las Vegas when we
- 23:44Speaker 4: needed the most, because it was right after October the
- 23:48Speaker 4: first you know what happened in that country concertifty eight
- 23:52Speaker 4: people died. The first game for the Vegas Golden Knights
- 23:55Speaker 4: professionally happened in October the tenth, right after the shooting
- 24:00Speaker 4: the Mandola from the Mandola Bay, and it became like
- 24:04Speaker 4: the the heill, you know, like the medicine that the
- 24:07Speaker 4: city needed at that very moment, because it was a
- 24:11Speaker 4: very awful moment in the history of Las Vegas and
- 24:15Speaker 4: the worst massacre in the history of the United States.
- 24:19Speaker 4: So everybody was like quiet, you know, like like you
- 24:22Speaker 4: could feel there was an intangible feeling of pain wherever
- 24:27Speaker 4: you go in Las Vegas. So the Vegas Golden Knights
- 24:30Speaker 4: came at the right time, but they deliver way more
- 24:34Speaker 4: than just the healing. This team gave identity to the
- 24:40Speaker 4: people from Las Vegas. We brought the whole community together
- 24:44Speaker 4: and this is a city where you can find people
- 24:46Speaker 4: from all over the world. And something that made that
- 24:51Speaker 4: magical connection was precisely what the Vegas Golden Knights did
- 24:54Speaker 4: through the whole season. That was, you know, honoring those
- 24:58Speaker 4: first responders, you know, firefighters, police and nurses, doctors, body
- 25:04Speaker 4: that had something to do with what happened in that
- 25:08Speaker 4: terrible day. So the Vegas Golden Knights became like like
- 25:14Speaker 4: the shield. I remember that I was in Edmonton during
- 25:18Speaker 4: the playoffs and I was being interviewed by one of
- 25:21Speaker 4: the radio stations in Edmonton and the guy was kind
- 25:25Speaker 4: of you know, you could feel that they didn't like
- 25:29Speaker 4: Las Vegas very much, and they and they asked me,
- 25:34Speaker 4: you know what about that is the Hispanic community very
- 25:38Speaker 4: familiar with the logo because I had the pin on
- 25:40Speaker 4: my on my suit, you know, And and I go,
- 25:43Speaker 4: what logo? Yeah, the logo that you were on your
- 25:46Speaker 4: on your this is not a logo. And then it
- 25:49Speaker 4: says what it is? What is it? Then? This is
- 25:51Speaker 4: the shield that protects our city. That's what it is.
- 25:54Speaker 4: It's way more than just a logo. So that was
- 25:58Speaker 4: the connection, not only with the Hispanic, with everybody. You know,
- 26:02Speaker 4: you can walk into a supermarket Mexican and supermarket. We
- 26:05Speaker 4: have a lot of them here in Las Vegas. After all,
- 26:08Speaker 4: it's almost a million in Spanish speaking people here in
- 26:10Speaker 4: Las Vegas. And everybody's wearing you know, scar for a
- 26:13Speaker 4: hat or something that has to do with the Vegas
- 26:15Speaker 4: Golden Knights, and with all due respect, way more acceptance
- 26:20Speaker 4: than the Raiders had, you know. And and and it's
- 26:23Speaker 4: more identity Vegas Golden Knights than anything else. So we
- 26:27Speaker 4: start to create videos about the rules, explaining, you know,
- 26:32Speaker 4: trying to entertain. I have this little guy that helps
- 26:36Speaker 4: me a lot.
- 26:37Speaker 1: You know.
- 26:41Speaker 4: That we have this guy that helps me all the time.
- 26:44Speaker 3: What's his name?
- 26:45Speaker 4: His name is Chewy Hey, Chewie.
- 26:47Speaker 1: How are you hey?
- 26:48Speaker 4: How are you doing, Loco?
- 26:50Speaker 1: How's it going, Chewie? Can you say you're listening to unscripted?
- 26:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm listening to unscripted. What is that that's for
- 27:00Speaker 4: you to find out? Okay, let's do this. Well, that's
- 27:04Speaker 4: what it is, you know. And this is the fellow
- 27:06Speaker 4: that I have that always use for explaining the rules
- 27:11Speaker 4: and becomes you know, entertaining. It gives a little touch
- 27:15Speaker 4: of what Las Vegas is about. And it's easy when
- 27:21Speaker 4: you have an organization like the Vegas Golden Knights behind you,
- 27:23Speaker 4: because they're always like, what do you need his us?
- 27:25Speaker 4: What do you need his us? You have Nate Ewell,
- 27:28Speaker 4: you have Eric Tosey, you have all those guys that
- 27:31Speaker 4: are always there. And and also I have a great teacher,
- 27:34Speaker 4: you know, Dan Duva. He's been magnificent with me. Every
- 27:38Speaker 4: single doubt you know that I had about rules or something,
- 27:41Speaker 4: Dan Duva was always there. Dave goacher, Shane Idy is
- 27:45Speaker 4: just a great team. It's just a great team. So
- 27:47Speaker 4: they made it really easy for me, and and and
- 27:50Speaker 4: the rest is just enjoying the play by player.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Love the sheriff Shane Iy, great guy. It's just you
- 27:57Speaker 2: left Mexico in twenty eleven. This is not acision that
- 27:59Speaker 2: you came to lightly. What precipitated that move?
- 28:05Speaker 4: Well, I I never thought that I was going to
- 28:09Speaker 4: come back to the States to begin with. You know,
- 28:12Speaker 4: my family's been in the pizza business for over forty
- 28:15Speaker 4: five years. In two thousand and nine, we had a
- 28:20Speaker 4: problem with one of the cartels. They kidnapped one of
- 28:24Speaker 4: my brothers, so we had to sell a lot of
- 28:29Speaker 4: assets to pay the ransom, and then they start They
- 28:38Speaker 4: tried twice to get my daughter. She was eighteen at
- 28:41Speaker 4: that time, so we didn't have much left, you know,
- 28:47Speaker 4: to pay in case of another another kidnapping, you know,
- 28:51Speaker 4: And I told my wife, you know what, I'm going
- 28:54Speaker 4: to go to the United States. I'm going back. I've
- 28:58Speaker 4: been residents since eighty eight. I was a resident since
- 29:01Speaker 4: eighty eight. So I came. I came here, and I
- 29:06Speaker 4: was doing in Mexico this TV show for free for
- 29:10Speaker 4: a friend of mine, because he gave me all of
- 29:13Speaker 4: the advertising for free for our pizza places. Right, So
- 29:16Speaker 4: it was a quip ro quo kind of thing. And
- 29:20Speaker 4: I came to an expot here in Las Vegas, and
- 29:22Speaker 4: I met people from ESPN de Porties. So I called them, hey,
- 29:27Speaker 4: you know what I need. I need to leave. If
- 29:29Speaker 4: I don't, if I don't leave, most likely I'm not
- 29:32Speaker 4: gonna last one more week. And and they gave me
- 29:38Speaker 4: the chance over here in Las Vegas. That's that's how
- 29:41Speaker 4: I left everything behind. So at that point we had over,
- 29:47Speaker 4: you know, over thirty stores, pizza stores all over the
- 29:51Speaker 4: state of Jalisco, which is on the Pacific coast. I
- 29:54Speaker 4: don't know if you are familiar with Puerto Ayata, but
- 29:56Speaker 4: that is on the state of Alisco. And leaving everything
- 30:04Speaker 4: but he is not easy, you know, and and knowing
- 30:07Speaker 4: all of the obstacles that you can find in another country,
- 30:11Speaker 4: especially for my kids, it's it's it's very hard. It's
- 30:16Speaker 4: it's hard, but you know, leaving everything behind, a beautiful home,
- 30:20Speaker 4: a very nice life, and all of a sudden you
- 30:22Speaker 4: are in one bedroom with your whole family. But we
- 30:27Speaker 4: were thankful that we were alive. So we started it
- 30:30Speaker 4: from the scratch again. And uh, that's why I left
- 30:35Speaker 4: Mexico and started working at ESPN de Portis.
- 30:39Speaker 3: I mean, listen your story. I commend everything you've you've
- 30:43Speaker 3: been through and where you've gotten and you know, just
- 30:46Speaker 3: getting to the hockey side, and you calling games, and
- 30:48Speaker 3: as someone who really does represent hockey for Spanish speaking audience,
- 30:52Speaker 3: is there a special moment. I know you touched on
- 30:54Speaker 3: the Stanley Cup, but for you personally, that meant so
- 30:57Speaker 3: much to call that and bring the game to people
- 30:59Speaker 3: who might not, you know, otherwise follow hockey.
- 31:04Speaker 4: It's it's too much of a passion not to share
- 31:07Speaker 4: it with our people, you know, and doing it in
- 31:10Speaker 4: the right way, being able to deliver three hours of
- 31:14Speaker 4: pure adrenaline because that's what it is, and you don't
- 31:16Speaker 4: find out and I mean probably in basketball you can
- 31:19Speaker 4: find that kind of adrenaline because of the pace of
- 31:21Speaker 4: the of the sport, but hockey is totally different. And
- 31:24Speaker 4: then you know when they're when there are fights and
- 31:28Speaker 4: and you know, on the ice, I take advantage of that,
- 31:31Speaker 4: you know what. You know, those kinds of.
- 31:35Speaker 3: Things got me there. I was I was gonna start
- 31:38Speaker 3: swinging on you there.
- 31:40Speaker 4: I just made it sound like a real match, you know.
- 31:42Speaker 4: And because for the Latino community, with all due respect,
- 31:48Speaker 4: it's not about just the play by play, they had
- 31:51Speaker 4: to be entertained. It has to be entertaining that it
- 31:55Speaker 4: needs that spice on the play by play that you know,
- 31:59Speaker 4: it will make you laugh or make you very angry
- 32:03Speaker 4: or make you just I have some some uh listeners
- 32:08Speaker 4: that you know, during the game they text me, hey,
- 32:10Speaker 4: you know what, you made me drop my tequila when
- 32:12Speaker 4: you you call that goal, you know, and and and
- 32:15Speaker 4: things like that and and so that's that's a that's
- 32:18Speaker 4: a very different it's a very different passion hockey and
- 32:21Speaker 4: people people is loving it, you know. And and and
- 32:23Speaker 4: also everything that Vegas all the Knights have done. A
- 32:28Speaker 4: few months ago, we went to Mexico City, We went
- 32:31Speaker 4: to Metepec and then to Monterey, Mexico to do all
- 32:34Speaker 4: these clinics, and it was amazing that a lot of
- 32:41Speaker 4: kids didn't have the chance to do it because every
- 32:44Speaker 4: single category was packed. I mean, they weren't expecting what
- 32:49Speaker 4: they saw in Metepec, the amount of people that follows
- 32:52Speaker 4: hockey in Mexico. There's a small league in Mexico, and
- 32:57Speaker 4: and it's just growing and it's gonna keep on growing
- 33:01Speaker 4: because now technology allows you to have eyes whatever you want.
- 33:04Speaker 2: Yeah, Hazus Lopez, the Spanish Times Voice the Vegas Golden Knights,
- 33:08Speaker 2: I want a thirty second answer.
- 33:09Speaker 1: What is unique and special about this year's team.
- 33:12Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I want a thirty second answer. What is
- 33:15Speaker 2: unique and special about this year's team?
- 33:19Speaker 4: Well, that all of them score, Every single line scores,
- 33:22Speaker 4: you know, and the comment that I get a lot,
- 33:26Speaker 4: it's that everybody wants to come and play the Vegas
- 33:28Speaker 4: because it's a beautiful city to play in. You're a
- 33:30Speaker 4: nice but you're still in the desert, and but you
- 33:32Speaker 4: will never feel the kind of winter that you feel
- 33:34Speaker 4: in Canada.
- 33:35Speaker 3: So that's true.
- 33:37Speaker 1: That's a thirteen second answer.
- 33:38Speaker 2: That was excellent, Hazus Lopez, the Spanish language voice of
- 33:41Speaker 2: the Vegas Golden Nights. You've had an amazing story to
- 33:43Speaker 2: get here and continue success.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Hazeus to your family, this was awesome.
- 33:47Speaker 4: Thank you very much. Appreciate it. Guys, thank you, thank.
- 33:49Speaker 3: You so much.
- 33:50Speaker 5: Jesus, well, honestly, that was amazing stuff out of Jesus.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Honestly an incredible Baxter of what he's overcome to get here.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Speaking of overcoming, we all know the devastation of these
- 34:10Speaker 2: Los Angeles wildfires. Even our producer, our dear friend, tell
- 34:12Speaker 2: he's close to it. Blake bouldenhead work on Amazon Prime.
- 34:15Speaker 2: He has had some family affected by it. This has
- 34:17Speaker 2: been a horrific situation. However, you do get some stories
- 34:21Speaker 2: of genuine heroes La King's team, surgeon Chester Griffiths, who
- 34:26Speaker 2: has been with the team for over twenty years. Jay
- 34:28Speaker 2: he led his son and neighbor in a battle against
- 34:30Speaker 2: the blaze in Malibu that lasted five nights. He performed
- 34:35Speaker 2: brain surgery in nearby Santa Monica. So someone says that,
- 34:38Speaker 2: what are you a brain surgeon?
- 34:39Speaker 1: I am.
- 34:40Speaker 2: He got in his car, raced to his beach front
- 34:41Speaker 2: home in Malibu, where he rebriefed his son and next
- 34:44Speaker 2: door neighbor on the course of actions.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Fire swirling eighty mile prior winds quickling in the neighborhood.
- 34:48Speaker 2: They used water hoses and spades to fight the flames
- 34:52Speaker 2: for four days and five nights.
- 34:53Speaker 1: That is unbelievable.
- 34:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I watched the video on it. It's you know,
- 34:58Speaker 3: it's so tough because if you're not directly involved, it's
- 35:01Speaker 3: so hard to kind of have an understanding of what
- 35:03Speaker 3: people are actually going through. So I've been trying to
- 35:05Speaker 3: watch as many videos and try to you know, really
- 35:09Speaker 3: grasp this because it's you know, it's not super close
- 35:11Speaker 3: to home for me, but it's you know, the people
- 35:14Speaker 3: that I know, tal and and watching people that have
- 35:16Speaker 3: a connection to hockey, but also just everybody in general
- 35:19Speaker 3: that suffered is crazy. And to think that they stayed
- 35:22Speaker 3: there amidst all that blaze I was. I saw in
- 35:26Speaker 3: the video, like he bought all the fire hose equipment,
- 35:28Speaker 3: he bought all the fire gear, firefighter equipment, he bought
- 35:32Speaker 3: a bunch of flame retard and stuff. And you know
- 35:34Speaker 3: his son's talking about the second night. They're just battling
- 35:36Speaker 3: this at night, not sleeping. You can hear the video
- 35:38Speaker 3: of them talking. Their voices are so raspy from taking
- 35:41Speaker 3: in all the smoke, and the smoke in relation so
- 35:43Speaker 3: absolute heroes, you know, probably not only save themselves but
- 35:48Speaker 3: save so many people in so many people's homes, and
- 35:51Speaker 3: just staying up all night, you know, fighting the blaze.
- 35:54Speaker 3: It's it's crazy, man, It's it's harrowing to think that
- 35:58Speaker 3: something like that can happen and affects so many people
- 36:01Speaker 3: so close to home. But seeing stories like that, it's
- 36:04Speaker 3: always it's power of the human experience a little bit, right.
- 36:08Speaker 2: Yeah, like they say, not all heroes were cape So
- 36:10Speaker 2: we wanted to lo Chester Griffis La kingsertion remarkable work.
- 36:13Speaker 1: He's doing there.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Great to have here for the first time. An NHL
- 36:21Speaker 2: unscripted Nick Alberga. He's the host and director of Leif's
- 36:24Speaker 2: Morning Take, as well as the host of the NHLF
- 36:27Speaker 2: Fantasy on Ice podcast. You're in the thick of Leaves Station, Nick, Amazon,
- 36:31Speaker 2: probably there on Monday lightning Leaf's massive game. Toronto's had
- 36:34Speaker 2: a great stret They might be first in the division,
- 36:36Speaker 2: but they've lost three straight games. People criticizing the fact
- 36:39Speaker 2: they used to be an exciting, fun team. Now they're
- 36:41Speaker 2: defensive oriented. Lately, they haven't been winning. What's going on
- 36:44Speaker 2: right now in Toronto? People seem to be freaking out?
- 36:46Speaker 6: Well, first and foremost, it's great to be with you guys.
- 36:49Speaker 6: Do you recall the last time Tampa and Toronto got
- 36:51Speaker 6: together in Amazon? What happened in that game?
- 36:53Speaker 2: My friend, I was gonna say, there was some Well,
- 36:56Speaker 2: it didn't go well for Leafland.
- 36:57Speaker 1: How's that?
- 36:58Speaker 6: No, it was a beatdown if you recall that. I
- 37:02Speaker 6: think it was the very first Amazon game of the
- 37:04Speaker 6: year Toronto and Tampa.
- 37:06Speaker 1: And the least very good.
- 37:08Speaker 6: Nick added it was an ass whooping. Can I say
- 37:12Speaker 6: that on this You can't?
- 37:14Speaker 7: Oh, I love it.
- 37:17Speaker 6: That's the one game guys, I remember and sort of
- 37:20Speaker 6: highlight throughout this season where I know the Leafs can
- 37:23Speaker 6: get to like Tampa came into town on a Monday
- 37:25Speaker 6: night and it was like a dominant effort. So I'm
- 37:28Speaker 6: glad that you brought that up because I'm expecting the
- 37:30Speaker 6: Leafs are perfect on Amazon Prime.
- 37:32Speaker 2: By the way, well you know that's Tony you mentioned
- 37:35Speaker 2: because Winnipeg was unbeaten and then the Leafs beat them
- 37:37Speaker 2: in Winnipeg on Amazon PROMI so you're right, there's something
- 37:39Speaker 2: mojo about that.
- 37:40Speaker 1: But what do you make of that comment?
- 37:41Speaker 2: The Leafs have, you know with Burubi, more physical, right,
- 37:44Speaker 2: more defensive oriented, less sizzle?
- 37:45Speaker 1: You okay with that?
- 37:47Speaker 7: I am.
- 37:48Speaker 6: I was gonna throw it to you guys as well
- 37:50Speaker 6: in that conversation. We have reached the dog days of
- 37:54Speaker 6: the regular season. Boys, I don't know any other way
- 37:56Speaker 6: to put it. I woke up today, I'm like, it
- 37:58Speaker 6: is January fifteenth. I'm looking forward to the Four Nations.
- 38:01Speaker 6: But when you cover a team like the Maple Leafs,
- 38:03Speaker 6: so you don't want to think anything is a foregone conclusion.
- 38:06Speaker 6: But they're going to the Stanley Cup playoffs. Boys, Jason
- 38:09Speaker 6: how did you deal with this time of year? Because again,
- 38:12Speaker 6: not to insult the integrity of HOBS Nation, right now
- 38:15Speaker 6: they've won ten of the last thirteen games. There is
- 38:17Speaker 6: this weird belief that team is making the playoffs. Guys,
- 38:20Speaker 6: tell me, I'm telling you right now, they're not making
- 38:22Speaker 6: the playoffs. Wow, I think guys are checked out right now.
- 38:25Speaker 6: Guys who are going to the playoffs say, like, you know,
- 38:28Speaker 6: like a Vegas or an Edmonton or Toronto, I think
- 38:30Speaker 6: you have more of a tendency to drop games you
- 38:33Speaker 6: shouldn't this time year.
- 38:34Speaker 7: It's a long season, man, it's a grind.
- 38:36Speaker 3: Well right now, you know, when I always got to
- 38:38Speaker 3: these points, especially with the good teams, you start giving
- 38:40Speaker 3: yourself little deadlines, like four nations. It's like ten twelve
- 38:43Speaker 3: games away, let's get to four nations. And once we
- 38:46Speaker 3: get to four nations, let's get to the next milestone.
- 38:49Speaker 3: And then it's just kind of you really start chopping
- 38:51Speaker 3: it up into like four segments of ten games, because otherwise,
- 38:55Speaker 3: if you're like you look at forty and you come
- 38:56Speaker 3: in the room, it's like, oh my god, Like this
- 38:58Speaker 3: is just so you'll see the top teams kind of,
- 39:02Speaker 3: you know, they'll muddle around five hundred, and you'll see
- 39:04Speaker 3: like these teams that are chasing the playoffs spot get hot.
- 39:07Speaker 3: And then after four nations, you'll see it just there'll
- 39:10Speaker 3: be a separation because guys will be rested and they'll
- 39:13Speaker 3: be kind of certing to gear up for the playoffs.
- 39:14Speaker 3: So you'll see kind of teams drought, like you said,
- 39:16Speaker 3: drop some games that they shouldn't drop, and you'll just
- 39:20Speaker 3: be like, oh my god. It's like every year, Oh
- 39:21Speaker 3: my god, Like the Buffalo Sabers are great, they might
- 39:23Speaker 3: make the playoffs, and oh my god, like Montreal's great,
- 39:26Speaker 3: and then it's just chasm right after so's it's it's tough.
- 39:31Speaker 3: It's you really need a good makeup of guys in
- 39:33Speaker 3: the room, especially this time of year.
- 39:35Speaker 2: One team nick that's the Stanley Cup contended, no question
- 39:37Speaker 2: about its Winnipeg Jets. It came out to that incredible
- 39:39Speaker 2: start and Connor Hallibuck seems destined to win not only
- 39:42Speaker 2: his third vest and trophy. But you think you can
- 39:44Speaker 2: make a case for a goalie winning the heart shades
- 39:46Speaker 2: of Joseh Theodore, make that.
- 39:47Speaker 6: Case, guys. I was so excited to come on this
- 39:50Speaker 6: podcast today. I actually spent some time doing some research,
- 39:53Speaker 6: first ever time in my career.
- 39:55Speaker 1: I love this.
- 39:55Speaker 6: I look back to the last couple of Heart Trophy
- 39:59Speaker 6: winners when it comes to goalie, specifically, the last guy
- 40:01Speaker 6: to do it, some guy named Kerrie Price. He was
- 40:03Speaker 6: pretty good at goal tending fourteen fifteen, played sixty six games.
- 40:07Speaker 6: He was forty four sixteen and six A one point
- 40:09Speaker 6: nine to six, A nine to thirty three.
- 40:11Speaker 7: So we got Hellibuck here.
- 40:13Speaker 3: At one point ninety six.
- 40:16Speaker 6: It's insane, crazy, But listen to these numbers. Twenty seven
- 40:20Speaker 6: six and two A one point nine to nine in
- 40:23Speaker 6: this era of NHL hockey is insanity to me. You know,
- 40:26Speaker 6: the shutouts speak for themselves, and he's on pace for
- 40:29Speaker 6: sixty four appearances. Now, it's no disrespect to guys like
- 40:33Speaker 6: dry Saddle, McKinnon, McDavid. I throw caprizov it in that conversation.
- 40:37Speaker 6: I think this is going to be fun down the stretch.
- 40:39Speaker 6: But if there's a year for a goaltender to be worthy,
- 40:42Speaker 6: I would say of being at least in the conversation,
- 40:44Speaker 6: it's Hellibuck. And last I checked, he's he's co favorite
- 40:48Speaker 6: to win this award right now, and rightfully so he's
- 40:51Speaker 6: been that good and that important Winnipeg boys.
- 40:53Speaker 1: I love that research. But here's a concern Nick.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Come playoff time. That's what Helly gets lead. You just
- 40:58Speaker 2: play him sixty four games and he took it.
- 41:00Speaker 3: You took it out of my mouth. He's like he's
- 41:02Speaker 3: going to win the heart all to lose in the
- 41:03Speaker 3: first round.
- 41:04Speaker 6: Out, Well, that's the case. He's like the leafs right,
- 41:07Speaker 6: like he just the two teams. Yeah, like Winnipeg couldn't
- 41:11Speaker 6: put it together last year. Like that was the weird
- 41:13Speaker 6: thing for me is like he wins the Vesnan Trophy,
- 41:15Speaker 6: they get to the playoffs and they lose their identity.
- 41:18Speaker 6: But it just shows you there's no connection between the
- 41:20Speaker 6: regular season and the postseason.
- 41:22Speaker 3: Right, especially when pressure mounts and you get down early
- 41:26Speaker 3: in a series. And that's kind of what's been the
- 41:28Speaker 3: mo Is. They get blown out Game one and then
- 41:31Speaker 3: all of a sudden they panic quick, and I mean
- 41:33Speaker 3: Toronto's a different serve. Those are the two teams I
- 41:36Speaker 3: tell everybody, like, wake me up in April, like I'll
- 41:38Speaker 3: see in April. I'll see when you get what we
- 41:40Speaker 3: get there, because they're gonna win the awards, the accolades,
- 41:42Speaker 3: but I want to talk about a guy that is
- 41:45Speaker 3: kind of in my He's tickling the heart trophy for
- 41:47Speaker 3: me right now? Is zach Warenski a little bit.
- 41:51Speaker 7: Filthy? Filthy?
- 41:52Speaker 6: And I get it right, Like the conversation is going
- 41:55Speaker 6: to be a lot about mccarr at quinn Hughes is
- 41:56Speaker 6: having another great year with the Vancouver Canucks. But maybe
- 41:59Speaker 6: it's just to my country guys. And obviously you know,
- 42:02Speaker 6: the Canadian contingent on the podcast is not short for sure,
- 42:06Speaker 6: but in Canada, nobody is talking about zak Warensky, Like.
- 42:10Speaker 3: Nobody like American.
- 42:12Speaker 6: Yeah, Like I always like to think, you take this
- 42:14Speaker 6: guy off the roster, what does that team look like again?
- 42:18Speaker 6: With the duist to respect the Kareil Marchenko and Dmitri Veronkov,
- 42:21Speaker 6: those guys have been studs this year. So is Sean
- 42:23Speaker 6: Monahans good? Yeah, you take Lorensky off that roster. I
- 42:28Speaker 6: don't think they're even sniffing around a playoff spot right now.
- 42:30Speaker 6: Like I think the big story with them is Dean Evison.
- 42:33Speaker 6: They're scoring goals like crazy, they can't keep the puck
- 42:35Speaker 6: out of their own net, and that's my concern I
- 42:37Speaker 6: think moving forward with Columbus. But you look at the
- 42:39Speaker 6: numbers specifically on Arensky. We know sometimes maybe it should
- 42:43Speaker 6: be an offensive award, but in recent memory it has
- 42:45Speaker 6: been fifteen goals fifty points. He's on pace for twenty
- 42:49Speaker 6: eight goals and ninety three points. Boys, And this by
- 42:52Speaker 6: far would be the best season of Zakwarensky's career. And
- 42:54Speaker 6: I'll be honest, I've probably kick started this campaign because
- 42:57Speaker 6: prior to the year plus ten thousand ticket on zak
- 43:02Speaker 6: Warensky to win the Norst.
- 43:04Speaker 3: Wow, that was it for the Norris.
- 43:06Speaker 6: Yeah, you put a few duckets down on that nick,
- 43:09Speaker 6: a couple of bucks on cheap boys.
- 43:10Speaker 7: I'll be honest if you.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Told me you put a few shots down that thing,
- 43:14Speaker 2: that's a serious like, wow.
- 43:15Speaker 7: What fifty bucks?
- 43:16Speaker 3: You know what? Which I talked about it before, and
- 43:19Speaker 3: I feel like and not talked about stat I know
- 43:21Speaker 3: it listened for defenseman. But he's leading all Dan shots.
- 43:24Speaker 3: He's got one hundred and seventy one shots through forty
- 43:26Speaker 3: one games. That is getting the puck through to the
- 43:28Speaker 3: net and giving yourself an opportunity, giving your team an
- 43:30Speaker 3: opportunity to score is so important. And he just finds
- 43:33Speaker 3: a way to get to the net night. I didn't
- 43:35Speaker 3: mention it when we talked about before, but he looks
- 43:37Speaker 3: effortless out there like it just he doesn't look like
- 43:41Speaker 3: he's trying. He's playing twenty six to thirty minutes a night.
- 43:44Speaker 3: It's criminal how this guy's not talked about enough.
- 43:47Speaker 2: And the Calder Race Nick, it feels like early on
- 43:50Speaker 2: was to his Matt Beamach Goff, the Macklin cel Brady
- 43:53Speaker 2: from Demerses Sharks.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Lane Hodson is defence with the Habs.
- 43:55Speaker 2: Could you make a case of another guy, maybe Dustin
- 43:57Speaker 2: Wolf of the Flames.
- 43:59Speaker 7: Yes, this is another one that's caught my eye.
- 44:01Speaker 1: And I love your goalie, right I rag.
- 44:03Speaker 6: On goalies usually, like I have like a whole spiel
- 44:05Speaker 6: on goaltenders how they're allergic to the crease. But that's
- 44:08Speaker 6: a story for a different podcast. Maybe there's just so
- 44:10Speaker 6: many guys I'm headhunting right now in this league. Get
- 44:12Speaker 6: in the crease, you get eight million bucks a season.
- 44:15Speaker 6: I digress Dustin Wolf. Guys has to be on the
- 44:18Speaker 6: short list right now for the Calder Trophy fifteen six
- 44:22Speaker 6: and two a two point five nine to win six
- 44:24Speaker 6: two shoutouts for me. The more staggering thing is is
- 44:26Speaker 6: the flames Is record without him, there's six nine and five,
- 44:30Speaker 6: very very pedestrian, and I just think you look at
- 44:32Speaker 6: his body of work, I think he deserves to be
- 44:34Speaker 6: in that conversation. There's gonna be a lot of love
- 44:36Speaker 6: because of LaBelle Provence and Lane Hudson and this and that.
- 44:39Speaker 6: The guy's a forward playing defense, let's face it, but
- 44:42Speaker 6: he's in the running for this award. The last goalie
- 44:44Speaker 6: to win this this the Calder Trophy from my hometown
- 44:47Speaker 6: of Voake, full Ontario. Steve Mason back a stone Mason
- 44:52Speaker 6: with the stone the Mason.
- 44:55Speaker 3: Listen, you're giving a lot of flowers. But I like
- 44:58Speaker 3: when you rag on people. I do say every now
- 45:01Speaker 3: and again, I do stare at ear your Twitter when
- 45:05Speaker 3: you go off on somebody. So, who's a big disappointment
- 45:08Speaker 3: for you this season? In the Eastern Conference?
- 45:10Speaker 6: S benezet Eastern Conference? Can I bomb the entire New
- 45:14Speaker 6: York Rangers?
- 45:15Speaker 3: Go for it?
- 45:16Speaker 7: Like it's it's so wild to me?
- 45:19Speaker 6: Like and I understand, Like, I think chemistry is just
- 45:21Speaker 6: so big in professional sports and JD you could speak
- 45:24Speaker 6: to that obviously having been in a room, but like,
- 45:26Speaker 6: I don't understand how you go from two wins away
- 45:30Speaker 6: to going to the Stanley Cup Final to being an
- 45:32Speaker 6: absolute train wreck. And I think I know what's going on.
- 45:35Speaker 6: It's just like the PR nightmare there. I'd love to
- 45:37Speaker 6: get a job in PR run the New York Rangers
- 45:39Speaker 6: right now because it's been an absolute disaster, entire fire,
- 45:42Speaker 6: how they've ran things like imagine being a player in
- 45:45Speaker 6: that room and the rumor comes out that, oh, I'm
- 45:48Speaker 6: on the trade block like ak Chris Crider aka you
- 45:51Speaker 6: know a truba and now's the Banajad's name is out there?
- 45:54Speaker 6: Like it's been a train wreck. I would I would
- 45:57Speaker 6: say in general, like the New York Rangers, I think
- 45:59Speaker 6: Igor's just stroking is on is on my short list.
- 46:02Speaker 6: In fact, we're going to talk about that in the
- 46:03Speaker 6: NHL Fantasy and Podcast. I just talk about the disc
- 46:06Speaker 6: Thank you. I try my best there, but disappointments like Shasterkin,
- 46:10Speaker 6: I think for for the money he just got paid,
- 46:12Speaker 6: hasn't lived with expectation. Ditto for Adam Fox. So you
- 46:16Speaker 6: can go across the board with the Rangers boys.
- 46:18Speaker 2: This was awesome stuff and a Nick Alberger he's the
- 46:20Speaker 2: host and director of Least Morning take as well as
- 46:22Speaker 2: the host of The NHLF Fantasy on his podcast, Nick
- 46:25Speaker 2: This was great man, ten solid minutes.
- 46:27Speaker 7: Love you my pleasure.
- 46:28Speaker 6: You know what I did, come by here to talk
- 46:30Speaker 6: about the Toronto blue Jays. I know you're a big
- 46:32Speaker 6: baseball guy. Yeah, this Susaki guy, he's not going to No,
- 46:35Speaker 6: he's not.
- 46:36Speaker 3: There's Dodgers, so he's going to the Dodgers.
- 46:42Speaker 6: He's at the top being a Blue Jays fan. I'm
- 46:44Speaker 6: just putting that out there. I'm like the biggest baseball
- 46:46Speaker 6: guy you can find.
- 46:47Speaker 1: It was.
- 46:47Speaker 6: I love that about Wort growing up. I'm just so finished.
- 46:51Speaker 6: I'm so defeated. I won't lie.
- 46:54Speaker 1: No, they might get Sasaki. No, they got je Hoffman.
- 47:01Speaker 3: I feel like they add. I feel like they add.
- 47:03Speaker 3: They add three, like two other teams that have no
- 47:06Speaker 3: chance of getting these guys, just to just to be
- 47:09Speaker 3: a little bit of that's the blue Jays. Every time his.
- 47:11Speaker 6: Agent play one oh one, and for some reason the
- 47:14Speaker 6: Jay's are just back in the conversation.
- 47:16Speaker 7: Ever, but I digress. This is not a baseball podcast.
- 47:19Speaker 3: That's an everything pod.
- 47:21Speaker 1: Yeah, we love it.
- 47:22Speaker 3: It's all script all it's your favorite movie. Let's give
- 47:24Speaker 3: your favorite movie for you.
- 47:25Speaker 6: Leave favorite movie Notting Hill, Wow, Julia turn it off.
- 47:31Speaker 2: That was a terrible little at that part out thanks
- 47:33Speaker 2: a lot than that, you guys, Nick Alberga. But the
- 47:43Speaker 2: fact he didn't research kidding me, he had his Connor
- 47:45Speaker 2: Helli Buck notes ready to go. He had his Dust
- 47:48Speaker 2: and Wolf notes, Jay, you and I do other podcasts.
- 47:51Speaker 2: I don't know if I put in research when I
- 47:52Speaker 2: go into the podcast, I kind of shoot from the hip, right,
- 47:54Speaker 2: what do you want to ask me? But the fact
- 47:55Speaker 2: he brought it Alberga, I mean on Hill, he's gonna
- 47:57Speaker 2: be repeak Eston run.
- 47:58Speaker 3: Scripted, Yes, ed Man, Alberga does research unlike you. That
- 48:02Speaker 3: does none for this podcast than in the movie and
- 48:07Speaker 3: TV world, the world of art and fantasy. So give me,
- 48:12Speaker 3: let's talk a little Sagnams go give it to me.
- 48:14Speaker 2: Yeah, if you want Cinophi in sixty this is your
- 48:16Speaker 2: spot here an NHL unscripted. So they'd standing performance by
- 48:19Speaker 2: male actor and a lead role. And let's be honest,
- 48:21Speaker 2: somebody really gives a crap about the SAgs. Just how
- 48:23Speaker 2: does it impact the Academy Awards, Because now the nominations
- 48:26Speaker 2: have been pushed back, they're supposed to be January seventeenth,
- 48:28Speaker 2: They'll not be January twenty third, and of course the
- 48:30Speaker 2: Oscars will take place. We hope our second fingers crossed.
- 48:33Speaker 2: So what does this mean, you say, the SAG Awarts.
- 48:34Speaker 2: How does this impact the Oscars? Well, I think the
- 48:37Speaker 2: five Actors nominee for Best Actor of the SAgs will
- 48:39Speaker 2: be the five Actors nominie for Best Actor at the Oscars.
- 48:42Speaker 2: Adrian Brodie right now is the favorite for the brutalist
- 48:44Speaker 2: Timota Shalome Tal's favorite for Bob Dylan, Daniel Craig for
- 48:48Speaker 2: queer James Bond playing a gay man hooked up on
- 48:50Speaker 2: Heroin in the nineteen fifties. Sign me up, Coleman Domingo
- 48:54Speaker 2: in Sing Sing and Ray finds your guys, You.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Said, conclave, bunch of popes poping. Well, here's where it
- 48:59Speaker 1: gets interesting.
- 49:00Speaker 2: The Best Performance by Female Actor and Lead Role. I
- 49:02Speaker 2: do not believe these will be the nominees the Academy Awards.
- 49:05Speaker 2: I do believe my girl, Mikey Madison and I've championed
- 49:07Speaker 2: Honora from the beginning, despite you disparaging it as saying
- 49:10Speaker 2: the first forty five minutes was blow nui, before saying
- 49:12Speaker 2: you enjoyed the rest of the film.
- 49:13Speaker 1: Nobody for tal the tell's gonna like it more than you.
- 49:15Speaker 1: He's gonna be with me like dude do. Nora is
- 49:17Speaker 1: a great movie.
- 49:17Speaker 2: Mikey Madis is the favorite to win the Oscar to
- 49:19Speaker 2: Me More though won the Golden Globes, And now we
- 49:21Speaker 2: got a two horse race here this woman. This is
- 49:23Speaker 2: the first major award Demi Moore's forty five year career.
- 49:25Speaker 2: So did you go Mikey Madison young new breakthrough actress
- 49:28Speaker 2: or do you give to me More? Basically the Lifetime
- 49:30Speaker 2: Achievement Award. Then you get the two of the slots,
- 49:32Speaker 2: which I do think will be at the Oscars. Carlos
- 49:34Speaker 2: Sophia Gascon Familia Press. She's gonna make a history, first
- 49:37Speaker 2: ever transactor nominated for Best Actress.
- 49:39Speaker 1: That's going to happen. And Cynthia Riva for Wicked, which
- 49:42Speaker 1: wasn't I wasn't crazy about Alphaba.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Here's the nomination the SAgs Day, which will not be
- 49:46Speaker 2: at the Oscars, but I love to the SAgs do this.
- 49:47Speaker 1: They zig once in a while. Pamela Anderson for the
- 49:50Speaker 1: Last Girl.
- 49:51Speaker 2: So she got nominated for a Golden Globe and I'll
- 49:53Speaker 2: tell you this, Shay, I actually really liked the movie.
- 49:55Speaker 2: It was written by a first time screenwriter's directed by
- 49:58Speaker 2: Gia Coppola, who is in the.
- 49:59Speaker 1: Copola family obviously, and I like Daye Batista plays like
- 50:02Speaker 1: the love interest. He plays with this heavy.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Set, muscular, angry bastard and there's got some good interesting.
- 50:07Speaker 2: The worst part of the movie was ostie Pamela Anderson.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Now I thought she was fine, but I'm sure you
- 50:12Speaker 2: love The Wrestler as much as I do. I adore
- 50:14Speaker 2: that film. Darren Aranovsky, Mickey Rorick, great movie. The Last
- 50:16Speaker 2: Show Girl was like the female version of The Wrestler Agent.
- 50:20Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, no, I love The Wrestlers incredible, so
- 50:22Speaker 2: I'm watching I go okay. So basically they must have
- 50:23Speaker 2: watched The Wrestler a bunch of times ago. Let's make
- 50:25Speaker 2: this a female version rather than Mickey Rourke all bulked up.
- 50:28Speaker 1: It's Pamela Anderson. Whoever would have thought the pride.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Of Vancouver, British Columbia, known for running around a red
- 50:33Speaker 2: bathing suit. Well, one day I get a Golden Globe
- 50:35Speaker 2: nomination for Best Actress and a drama. But it's not
- 50:38Speaker 2: gonna happen. It's a nice story because it is exactly
- 50:40Speaker 2: what you expect. She's the last show girl Vegas strip,
- 50:42Speaker 2: the show's closing down.
- 50:43Speaker 1: She's looking at her life.
- 50:44Speaker 2: She was a bad mother, she was, you know, delinquent,
- 50:46Speaker 2: all these things and you know reflect list. I actually
- 50:48Speaker 2: think it's a good script in a good movie. I
- 50:50Speaker 2: just didn't think she was pickarly strong. But am I
- 50:51Speaker 2: happy for of course? Can I didn't get some love?
- 50:53Speaker 1: Why not?
- 50:54Speaker 3: Who do you think takes it home?
- 50:55Speaker 2: So I think I think no, I think it's a
- 50:57Speaker 2: two horse race. I originally thought Mikey Madison was gonna win.
- 50:59Speaker 2: The actress Oscrea. I do think to me, Moore is
- 51:01Speaker 2: going a great case. And this has happened many a time.
- 51:03Speaker 2: I mean I remember of the year Glenn Close has
- 51:06Speaker 2: never won an Academy Awards seven time nominee, nominated for
- 51:09Speaker 2: a film called The Wife, which was okay, it was
- 51:10Speaker 2: fairly average, and they go, well, she's gonna wink the
- 51:12Speaker 2: Life of Achievement Award, and then what happened.
- 51:14Speaker 1: Olivia Coleman won for the Favorite and I was like.
- 51:16Speaker 2: What Because they love their British actresses, and she even
- 51:18Speaker 2: she was stunned. So there's this feeling right now that
- 51:21Speaker 2: hate to me more at the substance crazy movie crazy
- 51:24Speaker 2: you you guys have to watch it. I cannot wait
- 51:26Speaker 2: to discuss your the podcast. But I still think Mikey
- 51:27Speaker 2: Madison is the favorite. Now we'll do a couple more
- 51:30Speaker 2: supporting performance by male actor. Supporting role Jonathan Bailly wicked Beck,
- 51:34Speaker 2: you're a borisov Anora.
- 51:36Speaker 1: Fantastic.
- 51:37Speaker 2: This guy's story is great, so Russian actor very much grayish.
- 51:40Speaker 2: Sean Baker casts him and he starts to pick up
- 51:43Speaker 2: more English. He said, I kind of being in America.
- 51:45Speaker 2: I was one of the first guys to set and
- 51:46Speaker 2: this is set in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn.
- 51:48Speaker 1: He goes, I used a lot of my alienation in
- 51:50Speaker 1: the movie.
- 51:50Speaker 4: And I'm with you.
- 51:50Speaker 2: You watch that movie, dude. He in a very You
- 51:53Speaker 2: can appreciate this. He doesn't have a lot of words, right,
- 51:55Speaker 2: he doesn't have a lot of seeing stealing moments.
- 51:57Speaker 1: He makes his moments.
- 51:57Speaker 3: Count understated and and you know, I just loved that
- 52:01Speaker 3: last twenty minutes when he's with his parents and you
- 52:03Speaker 3: see the true relationship with his mother and all that.
- 52:06Speaker 3: That's where I was like, Okay, this kid is he's
- 52:09Speaker 3: got something here.
- 52:10Speaker 2: He's you're a boras off get ready for a first
- 52:11Speaker 2: time Oscar nominie. The guy who's gonna win Kieran Culkin
- 52:14Speaker 2: a real pain? How about this? Whoever thought Kieran Culkin
- 52:16Speaker 2: mcauleagu's brother would win an Emmy for Succession and one
- 52:20Speaker 2: day win an Oscar for a real pain. I liked
- 52:22Speaker 2: the movie, I didn't love it, but I thought he
- 52:23Speaker 2: was fabulous. I thought he was the best part of
- 52:25Speaker 2: the movie. And one more for you female actors supporting role.
- 52:27Speaker 2: This is the one that makes the least sense. Of
- 52:30Speaker 2: the five nominees by the SAgs, two will get nominated
- 52:32Speaker 2: for the Oscar and the favorite twin right now is
- 52:34Speaker 2: ari Ina Grande for Wicked.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Excuse me, Zoey Seldon is a favorite to win.
- 52:38Speaker 3: For Yeah, Zoey se Don is a favorite. Yeah, correct,
- 52:40Speaker 3: you didn't like You didn't like Wicked at all? Right,
- 52:42Speaker 3: you know I gotta be on Broadway. Community's gonna come
- 52:44Speaker 3: for you.
- 52:45Speaker 2: My wife and I saw the stage show Jay in
- 52:46Speaker 2: Chicago and listen, man, I love Mula Rouge. I love
- 52:49Speaker 2: Westside Story like I can get down to the musical.
- 52:51Speaker 2: I just didn't think the songs were that great. If
- 52:53Speaker 2: I go to musical, the songs better be killer, and
- 52:56Speaker 2: I did not think they slapped, with the exception of
- 52:58Speaker 2: defind Gravity, which is the last song which everyone's hearing
- 53:00Speaker 2: now on TikTok radio and popular is not bad bynd,
- 53:03Speaker 2: but I did not think the music was good.
- 53:04Speaker 1: And my wife Feend was kind of like, hey, meantime,
- 53:06Speaker 1: it's got twelve.
- 53:07Speaker 3: Am I wrong?
- 53:07Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 53:08Speaker 1: Am I wrong? Wicked was ignored by the Baptist. Am
- 53:12Speaker 1: I wrong?
- 53:12Speaker 4: No?
- 53:12Speaker 2: The Britz are with me as well, the ones who
- 53:14Speaker 2: will get on for the Oscar the Moo that you
- 53:16Speaker 2: guys have to watch, Felicity Jones and The Brutalist.
- 53:19Speaker 1: I love that film. It's unbelievable.
- 53:21Speaker 3: I'm watching The Brutalist too.
- 53:22Speaker 2: I you know, the Brutal List is what I'm telling
- 53:24Speaker 2: you right now. Anra and The Brutalist are my two
- 53:26Speaker 2: favorites of the year.
- 53:27Speaker 3: I love this segment, honestly, it's the most energy I
- 53:31Speaker 3: see you have in every episode ever.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Chris Chellios Out of the Gate was pretty good.
- 53:36Speaker 3: Yeah, you're all right. This was like a different level
- 53:38Speaker 3: and every and I didn't even know you could talk
- 53:40Speaker 3: this fast.
- 53:41Speaker 2: And on that note, thanks for watching Unscripted and list
- 53:43Speaker 2: thing We'll see you next time Yeah. NHL Unscripted is
