Latest / Sea Hawkers Podcast: for Seattle Seahawks fans / Seahawks Defense Stymies Mahomes, JSN's National MVP Conversation Starts Now
Transcript
- 0:10Hello and welcome to the Sea Hawkers Podcast.
- 0:14I'm your host, Brandan Schulze, and tonight I am joined by my good
- 0:19buddy Adam Emmert as our Seahawks on Sunday night football down the
- 0:25undefeated, the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs 20 to three.
- 0:30How you doing, buddy?
- 0:31Adam: Yeah, the recently defeated Chiefs in a game where the Seahawks
- 0:35came out and dominated front to start, like you said, 20 to three.
- 0:41I can't think of the last time Patrick Mahomes has been held
- 0:44to three points in a game in…
- 0:47Not only that, but, I don't know if you heard, Brandan, but,
- 0:50like, Kenneth Walker was back.
- 0:52He was back in the house.
- 0:53How'd he do?
- 0:53Brandan: He did in fact play in this game.
- 0:56Yeah.
- 0:56He averaged an Emanuel Wilson-esque two point yards-
- 1:002.6
- 1:01yards per carry.
- 1:02Although, that joke might've been funnier, before Emanuel Wilson ran
- 1:06for 100 yards and finished with a 4.2
- 1:10average yard per carry, including a 21-yard touchdown.
- 1:14Adam: Yeah, man.
- 1:15He got a lot of that in quit time for the Chiefs.
- 1:17You could tell that there came a point where the defense got tired
- 1:19of having to hold up to the pounding that they were taking up front.
- 1:22And I don't know where you wanna start here, Brandan, but I feel like
- 1:25we need to start with the defense and the magnificent performance that Mike
- 1:29Macdonald put on against maybe the, one of the greatest quarterbacks of
- 1:31all time, one of the greatest play callers of all time in Andy Reid.
- 1:35Brandan: Absolutely.
- 1:36Starting with the defense, let's talk some Ernest Jones, let's talk some
- 1:40Tyrice Knight, because those guys were your leading tacklers for the day.
- 1:45Nine for Ernest Jones.
- 1:47I feel like I owe Knight an apology for questioning our linebacker depth-
- 1:51… 'cause it was, it was oh so good.
- 1:53And then Emmanwori was out there as a de facto linebacker/cornerback
- 1:56slash- Corner/safety-
- 1:59Adam: defensive lineman … /superhero/whatever
- 2:02you wanna call him, right?
- 2:03Brandan: I was happy to see Emmanwori get a lot of TV time tonight.
- 2:06Adam: Absolutely.
- 2:07Emmanwori had a massive game in just the way that he was able to affect the pocket
- 2:12in the times that he was asked to rush, and then just step for step with Xavier
- 2:18Worthy, who's a bonafide blazer, right?
- 2:20And he could not get separation from a guy that's probably, what, 30, 40
- 2:25pounds bigger than him in Emmanwori.
- 2:27Mm-hmm.
- 2:27It just shows what a unicorn that he is.
- 2:30Just an amazing performance there.
- 2:32But I think we would be, derelict on duty if we didn't start this conversation
- 2:37with the defensive line, Brandan.
- 2:39Oh, yeah.
- 2:39Oh my God.
- 2:41Byron Murphy had a massive game.
- 2:43Go down the list.
- 2:43Name every one of them.
- 2:44They all freaking were awesome tonight.
- 2:47Brandan: Yeah.
- 2:47Derick Hall even, he had a night.
- 2:50He finished with, the, he had the only sack for the Seahawks-
- 2:53Mm … defense, but Byron Murphy, Leonard Williams, all the guys up front.
- 2:58I mean, that's, that's what you have to point toward, not just the
- 3:01linebackers who I started off with, but that defensive line to holding
- 3:06Kenneth Walker to 36 yards on 14 carries- And they didn't allow Mahomes
- 3:13a whole lot of time to operate either.
- 3:15The, they, they were getting after him.
- 3:18He…
- 3:18And as good as I thought it was in the first half, I, I felt like they
- 3:22were even better in the second half.
- 3:23Adam: They were even better in the second half, no doubt about it.
- 3:25And despite maybe two to three times in the second half, they did a great
- 3:30job on the edge keeping contain.
- 3:32And then the Chiefs interior offensive line, which make no mistake about it,
- 3:37those are good players up there with Trey Smith and Suamataia and, or however you
- 3:41say his name, I'm gonna get it wrong.
- 3:42Brandan: You
- 3:42nailed it.
- 3:43Adam: Yeah.
- 3:43And Creed Humphrey, who I know is somebody that, you know, holds a
- 3:48special place in your heart, Brandan.
- 3:50Brandan: Well, I mean-
- 3:50Adam: Fire-
- 3:51Brandan: He, he holds, he holds a s- a special place in all Seahawks fans' heart.
- 3:54The- Yeah … when D- Dee Eskridge, decided
- 3:58Adam: to- I was gonna say a Dee Eskridge-size hole in your heart, right?
- 4:00Brandan: Right.
- 4:00Adam: Yeah.
- 4:01But the interior of the defensive line was amazing.
- 4:04The Chiefs, everything was so hard, and that's when you can tell
- 4:09when a defense is balling out.
- 4:10Like, a, a four-yard gain was excruciating.
- 4:14And in the second half, Mahomes couldn't do anything on schedule.
- 4:17The only thing they got positive throughout the second half was all
- 4:21off-schedule plays that Mahomes was able to, you know, just kinda conjure
- 4:25up with his legs and that sort of thing.
- 4:28But an absolutely belt to ass dominant smothering performance by this defense.
- 4:34It was electric.
- 4:36Brandan: Yeah.
- 4:36When our Seahawks defense has given up over 80, maybe even 90% touchdowns when
- 4:42the team gets inside the red zone, the best way to operate then is to just
- 4:47not allow a team inside the red zone.
- 4:49As Mike W12 was pointing out, I heard Collinsworth say that it's the
- 4:52first time in Mahomes' career- Wow
- 4:55that he didn't even get into the red zone.
- 4:58Adam: Yeah.
- 4:58And look, and the receivers were an absolute non-factor.
- 5:02Secondary played lights out.
- 5:04And, we'd be remiss to not mention the Montana State alum,
- 5:08Ty Okada, with the pick here.
- 5:10I do wanna get to the snails comment here.
- 5:1236 games without 100-yard rusher, and first time Patrick Starfish
- 5:16didn't even make it to the red zone.
- 5:18And also, a snail, I wanna make sure that we throw your joke here at the end of it.
- 5:22The longest car, K9 run of the night was away from his
- 5:25former teammates into the tunnel
- 5:28Brandan: There you go.
- 5:29Officially, his longest run was seven yards, and I don't know, if maybe one
- 5:35of you guys in the betting show would've taken Emanuel Wilson to have a longer run
- 5:40on the day than Kenneth Walker if…
- 5:43You know, that would've been a pretty funny joke, but it,
- 5:46it turned out to be true.
- 5:47So, a big thanks- Yep … to The Snail for being a member for 49 months.
- 5:52We got Lemon Hawk 1990, a member for 18 months.
- 5:55"Go Hawks.
- 5:56We look like the team we saw last year tonight."
- 5:59K9.
- 6:00Ooh, yeah.
- 6:01Maybe- Ooh … maybe a little, redemption for John Schneider,
- 6:06who was on the sideline.
- 6:07He, he can, yeah, rest, rest happy tonight, Adam.
- 6:11Adam: Absolutely.
- 6:12We got an amazing super chat here from Ryan 911, our live executive producer.
- 6:16A 49.99
- 6:18super chat.
- 6:19Holy smokes, Ryan.
- 6:21And, "Make Adam read this.
- 6:24Love watching blazing fast Wilson rack up over 100 yards," not so fast my friend,
- 6:28it was 100 on the dot, "and a huge TD.
- 6:31What a game from him.
- 6:32Hope you know it's all outta love.
- 6:34Go Hawks."
- 6:34Huge win, absolutely.
- 6:37Look, Wilson was a- Oh,
- 6:38Brandan: it was over 100 yards.
- 6:40He had 15 yards receiving, my friend.
- 6:42Adam: Oh, okay.
- 6:43If you wanna, if you wanna say combined yards, sure.
- 6:45All right.
- 6:46There you go.
- 6:46H- over 100 yards for, Emanuel Wilson, easily his best game as a
- 6:51Seahawk, and I think it kinda goes to some of the ways that Fleury, was
- 6:57able to kinda work around Wilson and build an offense that, really did
- 7:02work well tonight for the most part.
- 7:05Brandan: Three points.
- 7:06Three points for this Chiefs offense.
- 7:10Adam: Yeah.
- 7:10Brandan: This is the defense that we just…
- 7:13W- they need to operate on their side of the field.
- 7:16The offense did their job.
- 7:17I know there was some hand-wringing early on about the offense.
- 7:20Oh, they're gonna running too much on first down, trying to…
- 7:24They flipped field position early on and they kept the- Mm-hmm
- 7:27the Chiefs backed up on their side of the field.
- 7:30Turnovers, those only happened on the Chief's side of the field.
- 7:34Well, there was only one, so it wasn't even turnovers plural.
- 7:37So, that I think made a big difference in helping the defense
- 7:42operate to where they could, they could just shut things down.
- 7:47Adam: Yeah, absolutely.
- 7:47I know apparently a ad was auto playing as I'm pulling up stats here.
- 7:51That was really bizarre.
- 7:52But yeah, th- there's a lot to talk about, regarding the offense,
- 7:56and I know early, you know, there was a little bit of hand-wringing about,
- 7:58you know, how it was functioning.
- 8:00But 11 for 16 on third down tonight, Brandan.
- 8:03Like, that is freaking massive.
- 8:05And early on I thought Fleury did a nice job, even though I hate bubble
- 8:09screens and those sort of things.
- 8:11He stretched the defense horizontally with some short passes out wide, which kinda
- 8:16loosened up the defense up the middle so that Wilson could be as effective as he
- 8:19could be going up the middle, and kinda balancing things out that way, and then
- 8:24being able to dial up a JSN hero ball whenever it was that we really needed it.
- 8:29I also thought he did a masterful job of- Just sprinkling in the right amount of
- 8:35Barner at the exact, exact right time with little Barner screens or little delayed
- 8:40releases for Barner out of the backfield that a lot of teams do to us, and it was
- 8:44awesome to see him be the complimentary weapon, du jour for the offense
- 8:49tonight over, you know, to compliment JSN.
- 8:52Brandan: Yeah.
- 8:52A, a little bit of a complimentary piece.
- 8:54Four catches, 42 yards, 19 was his longest reception.
- 8:59JSN was 9 for 150- … and a touchdown, and he almost had two touchdowns.
- 9:06He came up just a bit short.
- 9:08Another incredible day.
- 9:09Brayden Matthews pointing out JSN is currently leading the league
- 9:13by 200 receiving yards right now.
- 9:16Adam: That's insane, and, appreciate that, Brayden.
- 9:18I did see we've got a ton of super chats.
- 9:20We will definitely get to your super chats here through.
- 9:22Here's one from Papa Ted, 4.99,
- 9:25"A drink for everyone," and absolutely.
- 9:26Let's raise a glass to the Seahawks.
- 9:28They…
- 9:29This was a, this was a game that you looked at and you go, "Boy, I don't know
- 9:32how great I feel about it going into this against an undefeated Chiefs team."
- 9:35Now, again, they hadn't played, you know, the most stout of
- 9:38teams coming into this game.
- 9:40But definitely some concerns that the offense would be able to score
- 9:45enough to keep up with a Mahomes team even if the defense played well.
- 9:49But the defense said, "We're not just gonna play well.
- 9:51We're not just gonna play great.
- 9:52We're gonna play generationally great and hold one of the greatest quarterbacks
- 9:56and play callers of all time to three stinking points and zero red zone drives."
- 10:00That is fricking amazing.
- 10:02Brandan: Three points.
- 10:03Travis Kelce held to four catches, 44 yards.
- 10:06Their, their tight ends were the most effective part of their offense between
- 10:11Kelce and Noah Gray and, I don't know, does Cyrus Allen play tight end?
- 10:15I, I feel like that's a name that I don't know.
- 10:17He's a receiver.
- 10:18There, there was another tight end that caught passes that I'm like, "Who?"
- 10:20Adam: Oh yeah, and it wasn't Noah Gray.
- 10:22It was, it was like the third one.
- 10:24I- Yeah,
- 10:24Brandan: I know who Noah Gray is.
- 10:25It was, there was…
- 10:26I don't know if it's Armstrong or, Watson.
- 10:30One of those guys.
- 10:31Adam: I don't know, some dude I'm never gonna have to worry about again.
- 10:33I'll, I, I probably won't ever see those guys against the Seahawks,
- 10:36for the next few years, that's for sure.
- 10:39Another
- 10:39Brandan: big- It's funny, when you said, "Raise a glass," Godzirwa
- 10:42Hawk saying, "Catfish the Whiners," I was trying to find my glass of Niners
- 10:46tears as they were the other- Ah, yes
- 10:47undefeated team to go down to the Falcons today.
- 10:51Adam: Yep, that was, delicious as well.
- 10:53What a fantastic, performance with the Falcons to take down the Niners.
- 10:58That was really awesome.
- 10:59Wish the, Raiders could have come through against the Rams, but Kubiak,
- 11:02Refused to take points when they were just right there for him to take.
- 11:06Left eight points on the field.
- 11:07We can get to that another day, but I just, this analytics [catfish] has to stop.
- 11:12It's driving me crazy.
- 11:14Brandan: Let's get to a couple super chats.
- 11:16We got Godzirwa Hawk saying, "K9 who?
- 11:19Great defense with limited turnovers can win games."
- 11:24Thanks for the $10 Godzirwa Hawk.
- 11:26Adam: Heck yeah, man.
- 11:27And absolutely.
- 11:28I mean, this offense, technically speaking, didn't have to do a whole
- 11:31heck of a lot, throughout the game, but they were able, again, to convert
- 11:35on third downs in time of possession.
- 11:3835, or almost 36 minutes for the Hawks, to the Chief's right about 24 minutes.
- 11:43That's a massive time of possession difference, and that's one of the
- 11:46ways that you really do take the life out of a Mahomes-led offense.
- 11:51Brandan: We got Lemonhawk1990 with the Score donation.
- 11:54Yeah.
- 11:54$20.03.
- 11:57Just took a mini buy for us to get right.
- 11:58Let's keep this up versus Chicago next Monday.
- 12:02Mike Macdonald with his mini buys.
- 12:04He's, he's got a pretty solid record now.
- 12:06Adam: Absolutely.
- 12:07I think he was extra motivated going into this one as well, and it
- 12:10sounded like a lot of the players didn't have to be there over the
- 12:13weekend, but the coaches sure did.
- 12:15And they all put in a lot of work, and you could see it out there on the field.
- 12:19I felt like Fleury's game plan was the most connected that I've seen.
- 12:23Like, there was a number of plays that were all slightly different with
- 12:26JSN and kind of that orbit motion.
- 12:28That'd be one.
- 12:29A few of the same formations, just with the tight ends out there that they
- 12:34would run a few different things out of.
- 12:36I thought he did a nice job of mixing up under center to play action.
- 12:40And I thought he made the game plan as far as Sam's reads
- 12:44very clear, defined, and quick.
- 12:47And, you know, we heard Collinsworth talk a lot about the
- 12:51average time to throw for Sam.
- 12:53And well, he held the ball on a couple snaps, for the most part.
- 12:56Brandan: You mean like on the interception?
- 12:58Adam: Yeah.
- 12:59So yeah, or is it time to get to, to, you know, Silly Sam picks or?
- 13:03Brandan: Yeah, we can, we can knock it out now and, get back to some
- 13:07of the other fun stuff later 'cause th- there's some other stats I wanna
- 13:10circle back to and, and just hammer home
- 13:13Adam: You betcha.
- 13:14So, what, what stuck out to you here?
- 13:17'Cause I feel like I've kind of gone through some things
- 13:20here right out of the gate.
- 13:21I, I'd like to maybe hear a little bit more- Okay … about
- 13:23some stuff that impressed you.
- 13:24Brandan: Well, if we're gonna talk Sam, let's just hit on Sam's stat line.
- 13:2920 completions, 28 attempts, so under that 30 attempt threshold that
- 13:35I feel like is the sweet spot for where we want Sam Darnold to be.
- 13:39Yep.
- 13:39257 yards.
- 13:41He had the touchdown.
- 13:42And man, oh man, that touchdown that he threw, you know, not just JSN, but
- 13:49that's also Sam Darnold dropping it into the bucket, and on a play where I…
- 13:56My biggest concern in this game is whether or not they would have an answer for when
- 14:02the Chiefs got in those situations where Spagnuolo was just going to send the
- 14:07house, and we haven't seen it too much to where Sam dropped back and, and put up a,
- 14:14a big lofty pass down the field just for JSN to go get, and that to me seemed like
- 14:20the answer, and they had it in this game.
- 14:23Adam: They did.
- 14:23And look, those two shots to JSN down the sideline, those are the
- 14:29epitome of big boy football throws.
- 14:32I mean, that's, that is A++ type stuff right there.
- 14:37And unfortunately, he followed up the second one with a pick in the
- 14:41end zone, and that was one of those where searching, searching, searching,
- 14:45late over the middle, receivers had finally gotten into scramble drill.
- 14:49I know Collinsworth made a big deal of the receivers running into each other.
- 14:52Wouldn't have mattered.
- 14:53Safety undercut all that nonsense, and you can't…
- 14:56You just can't throw late over the middle like that, but talk about the
- 15:00full Sam Darnold experience, right?
- 15:02Some just efficient good stuff, a couple plays of just high level greatness,
- 15:08and then just a head scratcher.
- 15:10And since nobody else fumbled in this game, and oh my God, Brandan, we've
- 15:14been talking about this for weeks now.
- 15:17Like, Sam's gonna throw his one.
- 15:19If he can take it from two to one and nobody else fumble, you
- 15:22can win games going away, and that's exactly what happened.
- 15:27Brandan: Get into some of the super chats.
- 15:28We got Samuel Gelber in at $12.
- 15:31A big thanks to Sam with the live executive producer donation.
- 15:35Carly Perkins, 4.99.
- 15:37What a win.
- 15:39We can run the ball.
- 15:40We have an offense.
- 15:41We can beat playoff contenders, and the Niners lost too.
- 15:45Such a great day.
- 15:47That, the, the stat that I wanted to circle back to, and when Carly says
- 15:53we have an offense, that 11 of 16 stat.
- 15:5769%- Yeah … third down conversion percentage, one for one on fourth down.
- 16:03We saw Barner out there going for his barnyard.
- 16:06Three for three on barnyard runs.
- 16:09The last one was a little iffy, but, we got there.
- 16:11Made it.
- 16:13Made it, closed out the game.
- 16:14Everybody was ready to go home anyway.
- 16:17That, that's what felt, I think, the best to me, was that
- 16:20third down efficiency number.
- 16:21If I, if I had to, just be happy with anything, the second most
- 16:26would be that the one turnover came on the, you know, side of the field so
- 16:31the defense didn't have a short field.
- 16:33Although, it was a very long return.
- 16:35It was right before the half, though.
- 16:37Mm-hmm.
- 16:37And then Butker came up short.
- 16:41Adam: Came up a little short, missed another kick late,
- 16:43which that was fun as well.
- 16:44But, you, you talk about the third downs and 69% and all of that, it's
- 16:48because they were able to stay ahead of the six for the majority of the night.
- 16:52Not many negative plays.
- 16:53There were some procedural pen- penalties on the offensive line,
- 16:57That are super annoying.
- 16:59Mm-hmm.
- 16:59Still need to get that cleaned up.
- 17:01Brandan: Bradford had one.
- 17:01Brad- Bradford had his one.
- 17:02Adam: Bradford, Zabel, Sundell.
- 17:04Like, you know, you kinda go down the list.
- 17:07Now, with that said, offensive line had their best game of the year,
- 17:10in my opinion, to this point.
- 17:12Yeah.
- 17:12They were consistently getting two, three yards of push up front so that, you know,
- 17:17Wilson could plow into them and then fall forward for a yard and get his four yards
- 17:21of carry, which was, we- you know, enough.
- 17:23It was enough to be effective.
- 17:25And then in pass protection, they were fricking awesome.
- 17:28They were awesome against a Chiefs team that has bonafide pass
- 17:32rushers on their defensive line.
- 17:35And look, what a difference Super Bowl champion Anthony Bradford makes, man.
- 17:39Brandan: Was that it?
- 17:40Was that all they needed?
- 17:41It like- I don't know
- 17:42the Iowa Hawk Brandon says, O line just needed Bradford back, that was it?
- 17:46Adam: I don't know if that was just it or if there was a good
- 17:49kick in the ass over the mini bye.
- 17:51What it was, I think part of it too is Sam was getting the ball out quickly, and
- 17:54that helps to make the O line look better.
- 17:57But even on the possessions where he held the ball for a little while,
- 18:01They did a great job holding up.
- 18:03I, I think this was fanta- really, if you're gonna give out game
- 18:06balls, you give out a game ball to the O line and the D line.
- 18:09They kicked ass in the trenches all night.
- 18:13Brandan: Jeremy Green, yep.
- 18:14Bradford was the missing piece, I guess.
- 18:16Yeah.
- 18:16Hitting on injuries here real quick, Sydney Hawks fan saying a
- 18:19little thinner on the roster now.
- 18:21I don't know if it was the, that play where JSN and Shaheed ran into each other,
- 18:26that that's what caused the knee injury.
- 18:28But- Might be … Sha- Shaheed never came out after the half, and that happened
- 18:32right before the end of the half.
- 18:34So I would guess maybe that's where it came from.
- 18:37And then the other one that is very concerning, well, Braden
- 18:42Matthews coming in with a 9.99
- 18:43super chat, "Craziest thing is we left a decent amount of
- 18:46points on the board on this one."
- 18:48And yeah, with, with the field goals you could, you could point to that.
- 18:52Thoughts on Cross going out.
- 18:53Cross goes out late.
- 18:56That, after having such a nice offensive line performance, that's the one
- 19:01part where you go, "Man, I, I just…
- 19:04When it felt like it was all coming together."
- 19:06Now hopefully we find out that Cross is okay, we get to Wednesday
- 19:10and he's a full participant in practice and things are fine.
- 19:14I guess if it's a little bit longer, you are thankful that there's two
- 19:20weeks before you get to the bye week.
- 19:22But Cross going down for a significant piece of time would be very concerning.
- 19:27And with him walking, you would have to think that it's not significant time.
- 19:32Adam: Let us hope so.
- 19:33Let's hope it's not like a season thing, anything like that.
- 19:35But we do have the history of Josh Jones coming in and playing good football for,
- 19:41you know, two, three, four game stretches.
- 19:43And so while you do not want to lose, you know, arguably your
- 19:48best offensive lineman in Charles Cross, you have an adequate backup.
- 19:52That's why you, I- that's why I was stunned that Josh Jones was able
- 19:56to be retained this off-season.
- 19:58Brandan: Yeah.
- 19:58Adam: You know, for as much as we bag on John for not, retaining K9,
- 20:03Josh Jones, that could look very smart going forward if, Charles, you know,
- 20:08has to miss a little bit of time here.
- 20:10Brandan: Yeah, and Braden's saying it's an ankle injury, not sure how bad it is.
- 20:13Ankles can be anywhere from two weeks to six to eight, and you just- Yeah
- 20:18get,
- 20:18Adam: High ankle, low ankle, mid ankle.
- 20:21All the ankles.
- 20:22Yeah.
- 20:22Brandan: And the most that you'll get from Mike is ankle.
- 20:25Adam: Yeah.
- 20:25I, I mean, he might just go full hockey from here on out and
- 20:28just be like, "Yeah, lower body.
- 20:29I don't know."
- 20:31Brandan: Ryan911 pointing out Derick Hall coming out of
- 20:34nowhere for the strip sack.
- 20:35That was fun, watching the fumble bounce around the ground.
- 20:39It would've been more fun if we would've come up with it, but, nice
- 20:42to see him get the sack on the day.
- 20:45Lemonhawk1990, "Back in, $5.
- 20:48JSN is playing like he doesn't want Offensive Player of the Year again.
- 20:52He wants MVP."
- 20:54Adam: And honestly, I think he has an extremely legitimate case at this point.
- 21:00Yeah.
- 21:00I mean, he's incredible, Brandan.
- 21:03I mean, they…
- 21:04Everybody knows where the ball's going.
- 21:06Don't make no never mind.
- 21:07Brandan: Yeah.
- 21:07Do you, do you remember who the MVP conversation kind of hovered
- 21:11around prior to this game?
- 21:13Adam: I don't know.
- 21:15It was a guy who had a letter and then a number.
- 21:19K9, I think his…
- 21:20Oop.
- 21:20Brandan: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:21I, I feel like maybe, maybe the tide will shift after this game
- 21:26to JSN after his incredible night.
- 21:29JSin evitable.
- 21:31Exactly.
- 21:31Adam: And at some point it's gotta be JSN undeniable, right?
- 21:36Like, it, it, there's just, there's no more superlatives for the guy
- 21:40that you can throw out there.
- 21:43He's one of the all-time greats, and he'll, he'll be putting on a gold
- 21:46jacket at the end of his career.
- 21:48There's no doubt about it.
- 21:49I mean, this was absolute dominance out of him in, whether that's taking the lid off
- 21:55the defense and catching go balls, whether that's the tough dirty work inside,
- 21:59whether that's catching bubbles and, you know, turning nothing into something.
- 22:02I mean, there is literally nothing he can't do from his position.
- 22:06And I thought Fleury did a wonderful job of getting him moved around the formation,
- 22:11and when they could, hunting match-ups like they did with Sneed, and they abused
- 22:16the holy hell out of that guy all night.
- 22:19Brandan: He abused Sneed.
- 22:20He, he abused even their, their rookie corners- Delane
- 22:23Delane.
- 22:23So yeah, it was…
- 22:25It, it didn't much matter when you're getting 150 yards on the day.
- 22:30Kaitlyn Sinkewicz coming in with a 4.99
- 22:33super chat.
- 22:34"Our first home game."
- 22:36Right on.
- 22:36"Total domination.
- 22:37Thanks for the recommendation.
- 22:38Heading back to PA."
- 22:41Wow, making the trip from Pennsylvania all the way out and getting a dub.
- 22:45Gotta love that.
- 22:46Adam: Absolutely.
- 22:46I am so glad you were there for that game.
- 22:48That had to have been an absolute joy.
- 22:50I know we had a number of Little Flockers at the game, and, yeah, man, I…
- 22:55They, they had themselves a ball, no doubt about it.
- 22:57And you could, we could hear you all night, that's for sure, man.
- 23:00Crowd was raucous.
- 23:01They really helped the defense as well.
- 23:04Chiefs looked flustered all night long.
- 23:07Brandan: Nathan Tolley coming in with a 4.99
- 23:09super chat.
- 23:09Go Hawks.
- 23:10So sweet to show the nation in prime time what this team is all about.
- 23:15Also, welcome back Anthony Bradford.
- 23:17Yeah, I…
- 23:18It makes it so much more sweet that this was in prime time, that it was the
- 23:23spanking that, that Mahomes got, that it just, it, it made it that much better.
- 23:28And yeah, compile that with the Niners going down and moving one
- 23:33close, one step closer to first place.
- 23:36Mm-hmm.
- 23:36Maybe we can get there next week when, the same thing happens, but we'll see.
- 23:40Adam: You never know.
- 23:41And, you know, we have the Niners again coming up, and that's, you know, a de
- 23:44facto two-game swing if you can- Right
- 23:46Beat them there.
- 23:47Brandan: After the
- 23:47bye.
- 23:48Adam: Yep, after the bye.
- 23:49So, I love our chances after mini byes, full byes, all the byes.
- 23:53Like, that, that'd be, that'd be sweet if we can get that one, and I have a,
- 23:58a high degree of confidence in that because as good as the offense looked
- 24:02tonight, Brandan, there's better things coming down the road here in the future.
- 24:06Brandan: Uh-huh.
- 24:06Yeah, there's some other defenses coming up that could make
- 24:09this offense look pretty good.
- 24:12We've got 52 likes out here on YouTube.
- 24:14Let's get it to 100, maybe 112.
- 24:18Let's go.
- 24:18Let's Clinton in chat trying to, to prompt people to like.
- 24:22Please subscribe if you're new here.
- 24:24And yes, do subscribe because we're on our way to 7,000 subscribers- Get close
- 24:30out on YouTube.
- 24:30We're almost there.
- 24:32Adam: Yeah, Clinton said we're on a march.
- 24:33I'd rather be on a hike.
- 24:34But either way, however you'd like to get to 7,000, if you could help us with
- 24:37that, hit the little subscribe button.
- 24:39It means the world to us and especially after a big game like this
- 24:43where the Hawks looked like themselves again, looked like the world champions.
- 24:47And it turns out that the, removal of one player wasn't
- 24:52the doom of this entire team.
- 24:55Brandan: Papa Ted, member for one month.
- 24:58What the effing F did we have two receivers colliding on the end zone?
- 25:03You talked a little bit about that, Adam.
- 25:04It…
- 25:05When it, it wasn't…
- 25:07I know a lot of people look at that and go, "Oh," 'cause any time two
- 25:10receivers and they're in the area- Yeah
- 25:12like, that's a, a cue for a lot of people to say, "What's the
- 25:15offensive coordinator doing?"
- 25:17When it's holding the ball for five seconds because you've got the play
- 25:22breaking down around you, the…
- 25:24and you're…
- 25:24especially when you're that close to the end zone, the, it's, it's
- 25:27no longer part of the design of the play where the receivings are, are…
- 25:32where the receivers are running in the end zone then.
- 25:34Adam: Yeah.
- 25:35They're ad-libbing at that point.
- 25:36It's de facto scramble drill even though, you know, Sam wasn't out of the pocket.
- 25:40But they'd already run the routes to completion.
- 25:42What are they supposed to do, just stand there?
- 25:43No.
- 25:44So they're trying to make something happen and as you said, maybe that's
- 25:47the play that Shaheed got hurt on.
- 25:49I'm not entirely sure.
- 25:50That's a bummer, no doubt about it.
- 25:53But, yeah, I can't put that on Fleury at all.
- 25:57Could they be better in the red zone?
- 25:59Is that a place that you look at going forward with Fleury in this offense?
- 26:02Absolutely.
- 26:03Mm.
- 26:04And, like I said, with Charbonnet and Jadarian coming back, I think
- 26:07that does help there as well, and also the offensive line looking like
- 26:12itself again should make a difference with that going down the stretch.
- 26:16Brandan: Mike Johns with a 4.99
- 26:18Super Chat, "Finally looked like an offensive scheme we can
- 26:20continue to build on and win with.
- 26:23Also, Dickson back to b- back to GOAT status."
- 26:27And that was…
- 26:28I, I saw Sam Gelber, saying that he muted, the, the…
- 26:33Adam: Oh.
- 26:34The commentators?
- 26:35Brandan: Yeah, the commentators in this game.
- 26:37And Collinsworth and, in particular, I think is who he wanted to mute.
- 26:42And we did get a nice feature on Dickson and his punting style, and
- 26:47they broke it down, which rarely happens on any type of broadcast,
- 26:52let alone the national broadcast.
- 26:54And I, sitting with my wife and my mom, and they're like, "Oh, wow.
- 26:58Th- that is incredible seeing the way, how they broke it down, how he
- 27:02lined up one way, seemingly directed another way, and then boomeranged
- 27:06it w- as it's helicoptering to the dude at the 12 yard line."
- 27:11Adam: Yeah, man.
- 27:12Like, the down under boomerang there from the Aussie punter.
- 27:16Like, th- I just…
- 27:18You know, and I didn't notice the, the big slice of it, like, in real
- 27:21time, and then when they showed that.
- 27:23Like, I, I, I did see the helicopter spin, right?
- 27:25And we've seen that in person, right?
- 27:27When he's warming up.
- 27:28Yeah.
- 27:28We've been at some of the games, and you're like, "How in
- 27:30the world do you catch that?"
- 27:31Dude, that returner, whatever his name is, I can't remember who it was, he should
- 27:35get a raise just for catching that one.
- 27:38Brandan: Pretty incredible.
- 27:40We've got Black Thought Brown Dreams, "Our most complete game.
- 27:4569 third down.
- 27:47Amazing."
- 27:48Thank you for the 199 Super Chat.
- 27:50We've got 1515 Morrison, "So refreshing to see how the offense performed.
- 27:55Extremely efficient on third down.
- 27:57Three first downs with the Barnyard.
- 27:59Defense is the best.
- 28:00Go Hawks."
- 28:02Yeah, man, I, I would have to…
- 28:04That's one thing I'd be interested to go back in the stats and see when
- 28:08was the last time we were that close to being 70% on third downs- Sure
- 28:12because that's…
- 28:13When you're above 50, that's a good day.
- 28:16Adam: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:17You're having yourself a day at that point.
- 28:19And look, it was a, a refreshing performance from the offense, and
- 28:24awesome to see the Barnyard back, man.
- 28:26Like, remember when there was some mysterious reason why we couldn't run
- 28:30the Barnyard, there for a while?
- 28:32That Mike was like, "No, not gonna tell you.
- 28:34Just can't do it."
- 28:34Brandan: Yeah.
- 28:35Adam: Apparently during the mini by, whatever that
- 28:37reason was was resolved, fixed.
- 28:39I don't know.
- 28:39Boom.
- 28:39Maybe Barner's hands healed.
- 28:41I have no- Bradford's
- 28:41Brandan: back
- 28:43Adam: I guess maybe.
- 28:44I mean, I don't know.
- 28:45But, whatever the reason was, it's gone and now the Barnyard is back and
- 28:52that's awesome to see because it is basically automatic and it really helped
- 28:55with that, third down conversion rate.
- 28:58Brandan: Here's the other thing that I thought that maybe it could be.
- 29:01If it's something that they're practicing, and lining up correctly is so critical
- 29:06with the way that they're- Yeah … with officiating that play now, if they can't
- 29:11line up correctly in practice to actually execute it, then that may be what would
- 29:17be keeping it out of the game plan.
- 29:18Because if you line up only to then lose five yards, it would be nonsensical
- 29:24to, to run that play out there.
- 29:26Adam: Yeah, 1000%.
- 29:28I mean, they made life harder th- for themselves on third down a couple
- 29:31times though, on just regular third downs by committing false starts.
- 29:35So, what, do we just not run the rest of those plays now too?
- 29:38Like you know what I mean?
- 29:40But-
- 29:40Brandan: I, I just mean the alignment is so cr- it's extra critical on those plays.
- 29:43It is But, just with there being such a spotlight on it, but-
- 29:47Adam: Yeah, they're cracking down, no doubt about it I,
- 29:49Brandan: I'm just, I'm just trying to throw out guesses.
- 29:5115Morri- Good guess 1515Morrison, 499SuperChat, "I don't think I've
- 29:55ever seen a defensive line have such a dominant pass rush with only one sack.
- 30:01Defense is the best.
- 30:02Go Hawks."
- 30:03That was the other part, another Collinsworth commentary piece that Sam
- 30:08may have missed, was the reflection back on just going into Mahomes' eyes
- 30:15late in the third- Yeah … early fourth quarter, and it was that shell-shocked
- 30:19look that, I don't know, maybe we only saw in the Super Bowl against the Eagles.
- 30:24Adam: Yeah, and it goes to show, I mean, the kryptonite of every quarterback,
- 30:29and I don't care if you're Tom Brady, Pat Mahomes, or, you know, Malik
- 30:34Willis, it do- it doesn't matter.
- 30:35If you get pressure up the middle consistently and you can contain on
- 30:39the edge for the guys that can run, you're gonna make their life miserable,
- 30:42and he was legit miserable out there.
- 30:45And yes, they only finished with one sack.
- 30:48Now, Mahomes may not be 100% with the knee, but he's probably 85, 90% in my
- 30:54guesstimation, and you're gonna have a hard time getting that guy on the ground.
- 30:58But to fluster him, get him out of the pocket, break the rhythm of all
- 31:02of their offense, like that was a dominant performance by the defensive
- 31:06line getting those things done
- 31:08Brandan: One more super chat here from Papa Ted.
- 31:11AB is the key to the barnyard.
- 31:14It, it seemed to prove it out tonight.
- 31:16It, because, yeah, it worked that way.
- 31:19And Garen is texting me live during the show A picture, the picture of…
- 31:24And Garen's in chat too.
- 31:25You, you know I'm live.
- 31:27But I guess he also knows I check my text messages.
- 31:28He's got
- 31:28Adam: the private line.
- 31:29He's got the bat line.
- 31:30Yeah.
- 31:31Brandan: He, he's texting me the picture of Mahomes' eyes- … as they
- 31:35sh- flashed it up on screen today.
- 31:37Adam: Yeah.
- 31:38No, for sure.
- 31:39And, he was rattled in the, in the second half when he came out and I think
- 31:44he missed, like, three or four throws in a row, like, where there may have been
- 31:48a window there to get it to a guy, and was just erratic and all over the place.
- 31:52Couldn't get his feet set.
- 31:53Andy couldn't find a rhythm with the play call.
- 31:56There was nothing going for, for Kenneth.
- 31:59And do you think, Brandan, that this is more a function of just the defense
- 32:04is good, i- great, generational?
- 32:07Or is it also, or maybe more so, a function when it comes to Ken Walker
- 32:12that they've seen this dude a billion times in practice, so they know the
- 32:17rhythm and the pacing and how he runs and how he tries to get to things?
- 32:20Brandan: I, I think it must help, right?
- 32:22Because no…
- 32:25They seemed to approach it to where, I saw a couple times where the defense,
- 32:31the, the spacing inside, it, it was like, "We're daring you to bounce it outside.
- 32:37We're, we're gonna- Yeah … we're gonna space this so tight on, on, on
- 32:40our side of the ball that you aren't gonna be able to run up the middle."
- 32:43And, and then when he did bounce it outside, well, I think that's where
- 32:48the, having the backup tackles played a big role, because the guys were
- 32:53setting the edge well tonight, whether it was Derick Hall or DeMarcus Lawrence.
- 32:58Like, they did a really good job of setting the edges.
- 33:00And so he didn't have much room to bounce out, and then when he did,
- 33:03they were rallying to the football.
- 33:04So-
- 33:05Adam: Yeah
- 33:05… Brandan: it, that way, I think they did know how to approach K9.
- 33:11Adam: They really did.
- 33:12And, you know, Tyrice got shook a little bit on an early run, and then from that
- 33:17point forward, Tyrice Knight was laying the wood, against Kenneth Walker.
- 33:22There was that one hit, later on in the game where he just basically decleated
- 33:26him, and it was just a thing of beauty.
- 33:28I thought Tyrice Knight played an A+ game, i- in relief for Drake Thomas.
- 33:34A starter level guy, he's gonna get paid somewhere next year.
- 33:37We better cash in on having this sort of depth this year, no doubt about it.
- 33:41And there's, there's discombobulated Pat.
- 33:44Brandan: Hey, if, if Garen's gonna send it to me, I'm gonna use
- 33:47it for content so- There he is.
- 33:50Mahomes on the screen.
- 33:51And also on the screen we got DSCCCR- Yeah, man … a new member out on
- 33:57YouTube, so welcome to the flock.
- 34:00And got another 499 from Braden Matthews.
- 34:03Big number "Travis Kelce was thinking about playing another year until tonight.
- 34:07You could see the look on his face."
- 34:09Adam: It, yeah, you could.
- 34:10It was across the board on all the Chiefs whenever they,
- 34:13switched to the, sideline view.
- 34:16And then Ken's face on the Wi- Wilson touchdown, like that kinda, you know,
- 34:22set it all right there for his night.
- 34:24And look, man, I love Kenneth Walker.
- 34:26I think he's a great human.
- 34:27I loved him when he was on this football team.
- 34:29He is no longer a Seahawk, he is a Chief.
- 34:31So guess what?
- 34:32Suck it, Ken.
- 34:33So you can suck it all night with your crappy 36-yard night.
- 34:37Yeah, take that, go back to Kansas City where you're so happy to be
- 34:41because now you can have fun according to Collinsworth and Pat Mahomes.
- 34:45Brandan: Yeah.
- 34:46Garen's saying, "I was so impressed with the day's looks, I backed the TV
- 34:50up and took a photo during that game."
- 34:52And shout out to Garen too.
- 34:54If you, if you are going through Smelterville, Idaho, you gotta
- 34:57stop by Guaranteed Barbecue and check out his barbecue stand.
- 35:00So big thanks to Garen.
- 35:02Adam: Big thanks to Garen.
- 35:03And yes, definitely do that.
- 35:05It is unbelievably good.
- 35:10Brandan: Papa Ted saying…
- 35:11Oh, I think he's talking to Sam in the, in the chat saying, "Clink"
- 35:15for the old CenturyLink Field.
- 35:16Oh, CenturyLink.
- 35:16Yeah, yeah.
- 35:18Adam: I like that.
- 35:18I like the Clink better than Lumen.
- 35:20I'm not gonna lie, in terms of names.
- 35:21Brandan: It was a better nickname.
- 35:23Adam: It was.
- 35:23It was.
- 35:24'Cause it sounded like you were going to jail as an opposing team when you
- 35:27were coming into Seattle at that point.
- 35:30And the, and the Chiefs were in jail all night tonight, man.
- 35:33Brandan: All night long.
- 35:35Just 165 yards receiving for the Chiefs, 50 yards rushing, and Mahomes ha-
- 35:43accounted for 14 of those 50 yards, just two carries, seven yard average, and yeah.
- 35:49One, one first down that frustrated me, but it ended up not mattering.
- 35:54Adam: That's right.
- 35:54And look, it does go to show how things could look for the Chiefs
- 35:59going forward if, you know, they can't beat up on lower tier teams and
- 36:03just run the ball with Ken Walker.
- 36:05Their depleted receiving core right now is really a problem because they
- 36:09had nowhere to go with the football outside of the tight end room.
- 36:12And even most of the Kelce stuff was, again, on the ad lib stuff where Pat
- 36:17would get out and, you know, suck a linebacker up and then he would do
- 36:20his, you know, slow plotting little trot back, you know, about five
- 36:23yards, and then Pat would find him.
- 36:25Brandan: Handle Nah saying Andy Reid wasn't a fan of the
- 36:28fireworks with two minutes left.
- 36:30They had already lost, so he can, he can not be a fan of it all he wants.
- 36:33But I, I was wondering what's going on, what's going on with the audio on my TV?
- 36:38And then they referenced the fireworks, so.
- 36:40Adam: Ah.
- 36:41Well, I missed that 'cause I was setting up for this and kinda just
- 36:44peeking around the corner at the TV from time to time here, so.
- 36:48Brandan: 153 yards rushing on the day for the Seahawks, 100
- 36:52for Wilson, 11 for Holani.
- 36:55Velus Jones had five carries for eight yards.
- 36:58AJ Barner, three carries, four yards.
- 37:02JSN ended up with two rushes on the day.
- 37:06I guess those must have been backward passes, so is that what
- 37:09th- Yes … would, would that be?
- 37:10Okay.
- 37:11Adam: Yep.
- 37:11Brandan: And then Darnold, two rushes, 17 yards.
- 37:15Nice to see him picking up a couple first downs.
- 37:17Adam: Yeah, that was huge for him to break out his legs.
- 37:19He had a nice third and six at one point, and then I think another third
- 37:22and nine, yeah, in the third quarter.
- 37:25That was huge.
- 37:26And, you know, it took him a minute to finally pull the, the trigger and
- 37:30start to run, but he's got just enough juice to be able to pull that off,
- 37:34and I think that really does help him stay out of putting up the ball
- 37:38up late when he's out of structure where that's not really his forte and
- 37:41he throws some of those bad picks.
- 37:43So th- that was important for him to be able to get the
- 37:47legs going a little bit there.
- 37:48Brandan, how important was this game for Sam tonight?
- 37:5120 of 28, 257, touchdown and an interception after
- 37:55the run that he's been on.
- 37:56Like th- I would imagine this has to be huge.
- 38:00Brandan: Well, this, this calms down the crowd a little bit.
- 38:03Yeah.
- 38:03Because we were…
- 38:05Well, we had talked about it, right?
- 38:07That if we, we, we saw him come out in this game and we had another game
- 38:12where it was two interceptions where you just scratched your head, and it,
- 38:18it's like a half a head scratch, I think, with that one to the end zone.
- 38:22It, it wasn't total head scratch, but to come out of this game then with
- 38:27just that one and also have those big time throws to Jacks down the sideline,
- 38:35yeah, it, it helps him a lot because that, that holds off the conversation
- 38:39at least for a little while longer.
- 38:42And as long as he- At
- 38:43Adam: least two more games, right?
- 38:44Because then you could have the bad game against the Bears, and then the
- 38:47conversation's back up again, right?
- 38:48Brandan: Right.
- 38:49Yeah.
- 38:49Yeah.
- 38:49It, it g- it holds it off, and as long as he can keep holding
- 38:53it off, that's good for him.
- 38:55Adam: Well, and also too, I mean, this is, this is…
- 38:59This could be a turning point for him, going forward through the season, and
- 39:03especially with the backs coming back and kinda helping to take some of the pressure
- 39:06off and keep him in that, you know, 25 to 30-ish passing attempts a game where
- 39:13he really thrives, and it's not really on him in the drop back game and all of that.
- 39:17Though we didn't see a…
- 39:18I don't feel like we saw a ton of play action tonight, but, he was, he
- 39:23was pretty good, in the drop back passing game, which was pretty sweet.
- 39:27Also too, I think this is just a huge game, for the offense in terms
- 39:31of team chemistry, 'cause at some point, if they kept putting up these
- 39:35terrible performances, this fantastic defense is gonna finally at some point
- 39:40look over and be like, "The [catfish]?"
- 39:42Like, you, you, you need to do something.
- 39:45Brandan: Yeah.
- 39:46It, it…
- 39:47I, I don't want it to get to that.
- 39:49We got Fulminous Lux saying, "Charbs back next week?"
- 39:53Man, we hope so because it seemed like this was the week.
- 39:57We could have Charbs back next week.
- 39:59We could have Price back next week.
- 40:01Adam: Mm-hmm.
- 40:01Brandan: And if we're looking at a pair of running backs that are legit pro
- 40:07style running backs, and your offense isn't handcuffed by not being able to
- 40:12run wide zone anymore because there's just no ability to bounce it outside.
- 40:18Th- there were a couple, a couple times where they did run wide zone, and then,
- 40:23then the Chiefs just crashed through.
- 40:26That was, a little annoying
- 40:28Adam: Yeah, I, it was up and down in wide zone.
- 40:30They did have some success in it as well at, at times.
- 40:33Hmm.
- 40:33I- That
- 40:35Brandan: wouldn't stand out to me if they did
- 40:37Adam: I'm not say- like, I'm not saying it was overwhelming success, but like, you
- 40:40know, you get a three, four-yard gain and-
- 40:42Brandan: Yeah
- 40:42Adam: you know, that sort of thing.
- 40:43They, I, they w- highlighted one run that was zone in the second half.
- 40:49Trying to think of who they were highlighting on the block,
- 40:52but, Hmm … it, it, it ended up being a successful one.
- 40:54Brandan: Oh, it could've been a Holani run because he did-
- 40:56Yeah … have one good run,
- 40:58Adam: He did.
- 41:00Yeah.
- 41:00They tried to get Velus involved a little bit as well.
- 41:03You know, again, if Charbs and Price are back next week, then that might be
- 41:07the last time we see him for a while.
- 41:09And, so he got a little bit of a
- 41:11Brandan: run.
- 41:11He went with injury too, so-
- 41:12Adam: Okay
- 41:13… Brandan: it could be, timing wise, it may just work out.
- 41:16Adam: Yeah.
- 41:18Yep.
- 41:18But you needed this game, man, especially with Bears coming up here next
- 41:25week, and a, a very legit offense, right?
- 41:28I, I have a hard time seeing this defense holding the Bears to just three points.
- 41:32Not saying that it can't happen, 'cause they just did it to the great
- 41:35Pat Mahomes and the unbeatable Kenneth Walker, and, you know, multiple
- 41:39Super Bowl champion Andy Reid.
- 41:42They, they need to have their offense clicking just a little
- 41:45bit, have some confidence.
- 41:46And as you put, Brandan, I think it sets them up to take on a Bears
- 41:50defense, which I do not put on the same tier as the Chiefs at this point.
- 41:55Brandan: Oh, absolutely not.
- 41:56The Bears defense, go back to, what was it?
- 42:00Week one against Carolina where it was just an, an offense, m- they
- 42:05probably scored 100 points in that game between the two teams, and- Yeah
- 42:09it was close to 40 for the Bears giving that up, and they've
- 42:13gotten better since then.
- 42:15But I don't think, gosh, was it close to 30 points that they gave up last week?
- 42:22Adam: Yeah.
- 42:23They better shoot
- 42:24Brandan: out- It could be, it could be a rough go for their defense, but
- 42:25it, again, like you were saying, their offense also pretty good, so-
- 42:33It, it could be another game where the, the turnovers, it decides it.
- 42:38Adam: Yeah.
- 42:38I mean, and as we said in the flagship lead-up to this week is
- 42:42like, don't turn ball over, win game.
- 42:44Brandan: Uh-huh.
- 42:45Here you go.
- 42:46Adam: Yeah.
- 42:47Brandan: Done.
- 42:47Adam: Exactly.
- 42:48Yeah.
- 42:49Brandan: Jerry Green, "This defense is gonna make Caleb Williams cry next week."
- 42:53Adam: Does he even need our defense for that?
- 42:56I'm not even making fun of him.
- 42:57I, I, I, I could…
- 42:58I cry.
- 42:59Like, I, I c- I could imag- like he…
- 43:01But he's kind of a crier.
- 43:03Yeah.
- 43:03It…
- 43:04I don't know.
- 43:04I don't know if that works as a franchise QB, but I guess if you got
- 43:07that sort of arm and that sort of, you know, high-end talent, maybe
- 43:11it covers up for, for the tears.
- 43:12I don't know.
- 43:13Brandan: I, I think it does.
- 43:14I, I think he has come back well from that hamstring injury and, and shown that he
- 43:21can be very effective, so it could be…
- 43:23The, the defense Gets a little warmup with Mahomes coming to Seattle, and
- 43:29now we get Caleb Williams who, i- and that Ben Johnson offense- Yeah … that
- 43:34has that, that group clicking.
- 43:36So another also challenge in the run game, because that's another- Yes … part of
- 43:41that Bears offense, is that they have been very efficient on the ground, and
- 43:46that's another thing where Ben Johnson doesn't tend to go away from that the way
- 43:51that Andy Reid and the Chiefs were like, "Oh, let's, let's go ahead and not
- 43:55run."
- 43:55Adam: You feel like they just…
- 43:56You feel like they gave up on it?
- 43:57Because I don't.
- 43:58I, I-
- 43:58Brandan: They gave up a little bit.
- 44:00Adam: They
- 44:00Brandan: gave
- 44:00Adam: up a little bit.
- 44:01I mean, I guess.
- 44:02They just didn't have a lot of opportunities.
- 44:04It's hard for them to stay on the field on third downs as well, so you
- 44:08know, kind of one of those things.
- 44:09Can't stay on the field, can't get to your stuff.
- 44:10You know, sounds like a Shane Waldron excuse, but,
- 44:14Brandan: Yeah
- 44:14… Adam: yeah, the Bears, the Bears run game is different, right?
- 44:17Like, it is bludgeoning you sh- right down your throat and that's some stuff
- 44:21that this defense had had some problems with a little bit earlier in the
- 44:25season, some of that power duo stuff.
- 44:27That's been something that they've struggled with at times.
- 44:31So a little bit different type of running attack, but taking on the,
- 44:35you know, league leading rusher in Kenneth and an offensive line that is
- 44:39good on the interior, and shutting that down, that gives me a lot of
- 44:42confidence, going into the Chicago
- 44:45game.
- 44:45Brandan: Yeah.
- 44:45Ben Johnson, Garen reminding us that he turned us down when…
- 44:51He didn't even want to come in for an interview when we
- 44:53were looking for a head coach.
- 44:54But you
- 44:55Adam: know what?
- 44:55I was honestly more interested in…
- 44:57I, my, to transparency, looking back, Vrabel was number one for me-
- 45:01Yeah … and then Macdonald was number two.
- 45:03So he wasn't even a top two for me.
- 45:05Brandan: Dodged a bullet with the Vrabel one, with some of
- 45:07the off-season stuff that-
- 45:08Adam: Yeah … he ended up getting into.
- 45:09Not on the coaching end.
- 45:10He, he's been coaching his ass off, but.
- 45:12Brandan: He's been coaching really well, but
- 45:13Adam: yeah.
- 45:13Yeah, but he's been doing some other stuff too, so.
- 45:15Brandan: Which are, so far nothing like that from our
- 45:19coach, which is also nice to see.
- 45:20Yeah.
- 45:21Looking at the Bears, it was, they gave up 24 points to the Patriots, 23 to
- 45:28the Falcons, gave up 31 to the Packers.
- 45:33Okay.
- 45:33So they're on a streak of giving up, yeah, 23 plus points every week.
- 45:39Adam: Yeah.
- 45:40And look, this offense showed that they could be on their way
- 45:44to scoring that t- sort of, total on the regular going forward.
- 45:49And, I can't be more excited coming up just knowing that, you
- 45:54know, Charbs and specifically Price will likely be back it sounds like.
- 46:00Brandan: I'm excited, Adam, because our Seahawks got the
- 46:03win 20 to 3 over the Chiefs.

- 46:57Adam: There's only one thing left to say.
- 46:59Brandan: Go Hawks.
- 47:00Adam: Go Hawks.
